Reviews (page 8 of 13)

Bought this album when it first came out, I was about 10. Hard rocking for its day. Brighton rock opens with breakneck guitar like a machine gun and the high pitched singing brings a level of angst and anticipation to the song.

I'm not very familiar with Queen this early in their catalog - "Killer Queen" was the only song title that I recognized. Fun to hear them playing straight ahead hard rock, before they became a detached self contained universe in their own right... Fave track - "Now I'm Here", maybe, or "Stone Cold Crazy". "Killer Queen" obviously slaps too.

Before listening, favourite queen album

Certainly an iconic band and sound

Its ok.

haven’t listened to any of their albums before this, only their popular songs and i was not disappointed :)

This should be a good one! I saw Queen live a few years ago (with Adam Lambert singing) and really enjoyed them. They have written so many extremely catchy songs that stay in your head for days, but this will be my first time listening to one of their albums from front to back. Songs I already knew: Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy Favourite after listening: Killer Queen, Lily Of The Valley Overall: 8/10 There are some truly amazing songs on here such as Killer Queen, but then also some filler. I found Tenement Funster frankly a little boring but the rest was enjoyable. Brian May is an excellent guitarist, but limits any showing off to Brighton Rock, otherwise playing only what benefits the songs. Freddie Mercury’s vocals are as pristine as we would expect. Despite the few filler songs, the level of excellency from the others certainly brings up the album. Also, after all these years, there are still no other bands that have been able to emulate Queen’s sound, with is certainly remarkable.

Not my favorite Queen album, but amazing nonetheless.

Great album. You can tell they realized the direction of their sound early on.

Queen. Afraid the ubiquity of Queen records have diminished their value a little, but it's still a cracking good album.

solid but like night at the opera more

Freddie Mercury is awesome. I liked Brighton Rock, Killer Queen and She Makes Me.

Early Queen, gott rokk.Killer Queen og Now I'm here það eina sem hefur lifað af

really liked it, some songs I knew, others I didn't. Very diverse

Sheer Heart Attack was definitely moved more into the hard/glam rock sound that they were most famous for. There was some great guitar work by May and fantastic as usual vocals from Mercury. Best: Killer Queen Worst: She Makes Me (Stormtrooper In Stilettos) 3.5 Stars

Way better than I thought it was going to be.

Killer queen!

May be my favorite Queen album. Brighton Rock is amazing. Killer Queen too of course. Great and widely varied tunes all the way through.

Legends even if I don’t know all these songs

Queen.

Love Queen. Only a couple hits but good music

powerful when it needs to be, intimate touches by Freddie´s voice Queen´s albums are normally underrated, there is cohesion in the sound ad themes shown in every one of their first projects. Still, better as a whole than as singles, except obviously Killer Queen and to a lesser extent, Brighton Rock

Although it has no major hit it might actually be the best Queen album

good queeen

Amazing

I really love Stone Cold Crazy. Great rock album. Hard to separate Queen from their greatest hits. I'm giving this four stars: five stars for queer rock, knocking one down because I can't say the whole album was amazing.

Good album. Not all hits but all solid songs.

Classic queen, pretty good listen

Probably the most "hard" rocking Queen album. It's very good but once again it's nowhere near my favourite from that band.

Damn I hella enjoyed this one. So many of the songs are so much fun and theatrical and in your face. Love the faster cuts and even the silly bits are great still. 8/10

Pretty neat.

God, Queen were a phenomenal band.

loved this album!

Good stuff!

Algjör klassík með nokkrum gullmolum.

Good album. Particularly enjoyed 'Killer Queen' and 'Now I'm Here', however some of the songs do just feel like filler and just feel like a let down after the hits.

The 1970s were the golden age of rock ‘n roll debauchery, and no band leaned into the pageantry quite as unabashedly as Queen. Largely abandoning the progressive, fantasy-themed nature of their prior records, in favor of a harder, glam-like sound, the band’s vaudevillian prowess rears its head at last on Sheer Heart Attack. Standout Tracks: Brighton Rock, Killer Queen, Now I’m Here, Stone Cold Crazy

Not a big fan of the album cover, but I like the music a lot! The sound of a band coming into their own. 4 stars.

Really Great! 4.5 / 5 Classics: Killer Queen, Brighton Rock Others: Lilly of the Valley, Now, I'm Here, Bring Back Leroy Brown, In the Lap of the Gods, Stone Cold Crazy

Queen is the only band that sounds like this. The guitars are out of this world. Too much of it is overkill for me but the talent level is incredible.

It’s queen. I mean c’mon now

Some good solid rock tracks.

More like an album of demos

Never listened to this one from start to finish. Forgot Stone Cold Crazy was a Queen song that Metallica then covered.

Queen is very good. This album is heavier than other queen I have heard. And I like that. Favorite tracks: Flick of the Wrist, Lilly of the Valley

Yeah, this rocks. A couple mediocre songs in the mix here keep it from a five star

So Stone Cold Crazy is a five song and metal fans know how influential that song is. Brighton Rock is another gem. The rest of the album is so so. They did through a bunch of styles out there but it still had that glam rock tinge. It's getting a high rating based on really just one song.

Queen is one of those bands you either love or you hate. This album, like most of theirs, feels like a rock opera from start to finish. Most songs sung by Brian May suck, as per the usual… this one had a few less radio hits, which could be why I enjoy it so much. It’s no Night at the Opera, but still a worthwhile listen.

It's Queen. It's not the best Queen album, but it's rock!

good album

"Sheer Heart Attack" is a crossroads of Queen at their most theatrical, their most rip-roaring, and their most heart-achingly sweet. To some that may sound like a nightmare, but for every snooty critic who hates "Radio Gaga", there's a die-hard "Sheer Heart Attack" fan ready to champion a bucketload of songs the detractors have never heard. "Killer Queen" is of course the most recognisable name here and is wonderfully weird for a hit single. It's a bells-and-whistles number moving effortlessly through numerous modulations and vocal flourishes with such conviction and panache. It showcases a playful side that the band never quite lost, for better or worse, but when it's paired with such great musicianship and a strong ear for melody it's hard to complain. "Bring Back That Leroy Brown" is another novelty track which has always been a favourite for just how much is going on from one line to the next: Brian May even brings in a banjolele, for god's sake! On the more solemn side, "Lily of the Valley" and "Dear Friends" are miniature masterpieces: perfectly formed ballads. Despite each being well under two minutes, they're absolutely gorgeous and do more with their time than many full songs manage (including a lot of Queen's own). And when they want to go all-out blistering rock, they really do: "Stone Cold Crazy" and "Now I'm Here" should forever be used as counter-arguments for those who say Queen were just soft poppy sell-outs. All four members contributed sublime material throughout Queen's run, but John Deacon and Roger Taylor are still warming up as writers here: "Tenement Funster" and "Misfire" are the weakest offerings, lacking the punch or the drama of May and Mercury's material. As instrumentalists, though, all of the band are on great form throughout. "Brighton Rock" kicks things off with a virtuoso showcase from May's instantly distinctive guitar style, all boxy Vox and tape delay. The vocal harmonies are also reliably exquisite. From the first taste of stadium singalong in the stunning "Lap of the Gods… Revisited", to the choral backing in "Dear Friends", to Taylor's impossibly high falsetto in "Lap of the Gods", the band's multi-tracked vocals really come into their own on this album, elevating already great songs to something really special. The only reason this one doesn't get the full five stars is that I prefer the two albums either side of it, "Queen II" and "A Night at the Opera". "Sheer Heart Attack" presents Queen in transition from their heavy rock roots to the perfect blend of theatrics, eclecticism and theatri-pop of their next album.

listened to before an absolute classic

OK this was v good, exactly like I imagined a queen album would be. It did slow down a bit, and nothing else could hit the height of killer queen, but tbf that's a high bar and the album was a lot of fun.

Killer Queen is such a powerhouse of a song that it elevates this whole album to top notch even tho it is still a solid bop factory.

I've always loved Queen as a singles band but don't think they have a perfect album- this one might be their closest, along with A Night at the Opera, and the vast majority is great The diversity of styles on this album is great, but it does feel a bit scattered especially in the second half as the songs just don't flow as nicely as they should. The two songs without Freddie on lead vocals are really lacking as well and are just quite boring, which is a shame because otherwise there's some truly wonderful stuff here (both versions of In the Lap of the Gods are incredible, and Lily of the Valley and Dear Friends are two gorgeous shorter cuts)

Really good album interesting mix of music and some good classic rock songs

Zanimljivo mi je šta nema njihovih hitova. Dosta različitih pisama. Sviđa mi se

Amazing album! Love queen, but never listened to this one before. Freddy his voice is just amazing. Favourite songs: - Killer queen - Dear friends - Bring back that Leroy Brown

Pas mauvais

drulluflott

It’s not as good as Queen 2 but it’s still catchy and fun to listen to. I like the vibes of Leroy brown and killer Queen is still solid

A little rough going at first (some sections of Brighton Rock) but eventually the album finds its swing with hard rocking familiarity (Killer Queen, Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy) and unexpected gems (Flick of the Wrist, In the Lap of the Gods, Stormtrooper in Stilettos). A pivotal step forward for Queen as they get closer to legendary status. Favorites: Killer Queen, Flick of the Wrist, Now I'm Here, In the Lap of the Gods, Stone Cold Crazy).

I mean it's queen man. It's not favorite Queen, but it's some of their best work.

Really enjoyed this. New album for me.

Energetic album

Queen is a whole lot of fun musically, and this album is right there, too. Yes, of course, Freddie Mercury's incredible pipes, histrionics, theatrics, yep, they're there as always, but the rest of the band is so good and worth attention. Brian May is such a dynamic and expressive guitarist, and Roger Taylor on drums and John Deacon on bass are so locked in. Even though I don't love all their songs and can listen to this band only in bursts -- just a bit too much for me when it's more than a few songs -- they belong on this list.

Queen hefur alltaf verið "Greatest hits" hljómsveit fyrir mér, og fyrsta platan þeirra þótti mér lítið merkileg. En þessi... þessi er hress. Margt mjög fínt hér.

Loved the smooth transition from song to song and the fun mix of short songs and longer ones!

The first minute of this album was super chaotic and I was worried the rest of the album was going to have the vibe. I’m glad that wasn’t the case. Love how you can hear their solid harmonies through the classic rock of the album! Not my favorite from Queen but still great.

Killer

Sheer Heart Attack is one of the rare albums on this list that gets better, as I've said, retroactively. And that's without particularly obvious sonic contrast: This record is pure Queen from opening to closing chord and one's expectations have to be tuned to that fact. The A side is clearly a transitional period for the band. There are fantastic elements, but the songs are pretty tight. Side B is where Queen starts to throw a bunch of arrangement styles at the wall. It's a technique I adore on A Night at the Opera, and it elevates this record.

Würde dem eig auch eine 3 geben im vakuum aber will die ratings bisschen mehr spreaden damit spannender ist fands ganz unterhaltsam

This album has some diversity and is exactly what you would expect from a Queen album. Fun to listen to. Let it repeat 3 times so I think I liked it.

Queen goes from hard rock to their recognizable pop rock with this album. Great listen.

Good queen album. Several bangers. Not the most cohesive

third queen album, killer queen, cool first song, great guitar by Brian may. their first glam rock sound album.

This is where Queen started to become "Queen" - drenched in layers of sound, melody, those harmonies... the undisputed classic here is "Killer Queen" which you can't go a few hours without hearing on any classic rock radio station. It's easy to dismiss it from familiarity but honestly who else ever had the talent and brains to pull off an amazingly complex harmonic song like this and in 3 minutes? Slight negative takes on this album might be that it can trend bit boring at times, e.g. I'm not wild about "Stone Cold Crazy" although it seems to be a fan favourite; I don't think they were great at metal overall) and "She Makes Me" is too plodding. But every time they lapse they come right back to their best work which is heavily melodic songs, utilizing tens of vocal harmonies at once, multiple instruments (either adding piano/keys or ~821 guitars to create a quasi-orchestra), and even giving a nod to 30s big band sounds ("Bring Back Leroy Brown"). Queen's follow-up to this ("A Night At the Opera") started a run of 6-7 albums that to me were a little more consistently excellent but this is a really good album (side 1 is the better half) and really brings a lot of their theatrical side to most of these songs. 7/10 4 stars for good variety.

Awesome! Short, but catchy and a few classic songs. More time to listen would probably mean I gave it 5, but even once through it's a high 4.

Without Brian May, this would just be a barbershop quartet at the opera. Wait, barbershop TRIO, and what sense does that make?! People talk about Freddie, but Brian May is the real reason this band is more than tolerable.

In a recurring theme with bands from the 60s and 70s, what I found out about Queen while looking into this album is how incredibly prolific they were. And I realized that I really have only heard their hits. "Killer Queen" is the only song on this album that I was familiar with, but most of the album is strong. (Aside from that weird Broadway number.) But "Sheer Heart Attack" seems no different from other Queen albums throughout the 70s. Between one and three hits on each album, with a new album almost every year. So why is it that modern rock bands don't put out albums as frequently? Lazy Gen Xers and Millenials? Record label interference? A quest for perfection leaving all those non-hit singles on the studio floor? Whatever the reason, it must have been cool in the 60s and 70s to constantly get new music from your favorite band. Fans of "Killer Queen" wouldn't have to wait long for "Bohemian Rhapsody."

Huh, turns out I enjoy Queen even when I only recognize one of the songs.

I really dig it

This was my first time listening to any Queen album start to finish, and it did not disappoint.

Much preferred to a night at the opera, gets an extra star for stone cold crazy - love that one

Ah (Killer) Queen 5/5. Stone Cold Crazy kans aika jees tykittelyä.

My first full queen album I listened to. It was pretty solid. Killer Queen I've of course heard before but I also really enjoyed Now I'm Here and In The Lap Of The Gods. There were some parts that weren't as great as these high points, but overall it was a good 4/5 in my opinion.

Не фанат я квин

4.5 fo sho

Pretty consistently good. Killer Queen is a hell of a song. Noticing for the first time how similar Ratatat's guitar sound is similar to some of Brian May's sounds.

Fun stuff. Love their theatricality.

Enjoyable

My acquaintance with Queen is mostly a mixed-up mish-mash of their incredible greatest hits, which can be an overload of over-the-top. I really enjoyed listening to this early breakthrough album to get a true sense of where they were and what they were doing and trying when they really made it big. I like all the personalities and styles represented in this. It's amazing to me that with such diversity, representing the complete gamut of mid-70s rock, that they all still sound like Queen songs.

great album

I was a fan. There were songs here that I had heard before that I didn't realize were sung by queen

Killer Queen is a classic and Stone Cold Crazy has had such an influence on thrash metal. An album that surprised me as I had not listened the whole way through.

A good one

Brighton Rock is my favorite Queen song. That alone boosts this album, but the whole thing is a joy.

8/10 enjoyable hard rock w a couple classics

Yuss. 9

7/10. Good, but Killer Queen is the only thing that really stood out to me, and largely because it is the only song on here I was already familiar with.

Pretty enjoyable. 8/10

I love queen, great talent. Mercury & May had great song writing abilities.

Big fan…. Love their music

Hard to believe we haven’t had any Queen on the list until now. A few years ago I listened to all of their albums, so I do know this one. It’s one of their earlier projects, and you can hear the rock and roll fire that would one day give way for the more refined, artsy style of the later stuff. I still don’t know which Queen album is/was my favorite, but I love this one. It’s got plenty of hits, even in the deeper cuts. I welcome Queen albums on this list. Favorite tracks: Now I’m Here, Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy, Brighton Rock, She Makes Me, Misfire. Album art: A band photo in which they look horrifying. Why are they so sweaty? These guys barely look like Queen at all. I love the bold, red font but the picture is just unsettling. 4.5/5

Als Album besser als gedacht, aber trotzdem kein 5 Sterne Material…

fairly intense start. Fun! 3.5

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Brighton Rock, Flick Of The Wrist, Lily Of The Valley, Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy, Misfire, Bring Back That Leroy Brown, In The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited Cutting Edge: Tenement Funster Overall Notes: Good stuff. Diverse, extra, fun rock. Wish I could've seen this era of Queen live, must've been absolutely electric. I will say that Killer Queen wasn't that good?

Like it ...some aint so good tho

4.1 - OK, I officially eat crow. I'd unfairly written off Queen as poncy cock-rock twats. To be sure, there's some of that in full effect here. But, this album comes well before they descended into the realm of "Bicycle Ride" and "Fat Bottomed Girls" (shudder). These songs are undeniably fun, risk-taking and energetic - it's really hard to deny what they're putting out. As an album, it's an incredibly coherent piece, each song interweaving with the next, with reprises at different points. It's also got "Killer Queen", which is a favorite.

Exceeded my expectations. Not many standouts other than killer queen, but tied together nicely

A briskly paced album of varied songs in Queen's own style, thoroughly enjoyable.

A symphony of sound very cool to listen to. 4.25/5

A lot of great songs but interesting to hear the album as a whole with many songs that were not as strong.

Songs: Stone Cold Crazy, She Makes Me (Stormtrooper in Stilettos), Killer Queen

Very inventive stuff but bigger songs coming from them soon

Es Queen. Creo que la primer mitad del disco es muy buena, la segunda sentí que se cayó.

15th September 2021 Listened on my phone spread through the day. Funny that this came up the day after I watched baby driver and this album and it's opening track are mentioned. It's classic queen, arch, camp, big sounds, excellent.

Great. 4/5. Second listen. Next time it might be 5/5.

'A coked up mountain hare hopping over a disgruntled badger' is the best way to describe this glam rock masterpiece. The year was 1974 and hares were doing loads of drugs and running wild. The hare revolution was on the cusp of global domination and this album smacked the world in the chops and said "hey, here come the fuckin' hares, man. You fuckin' watch yourself, boy." Hares were all but extinct within 8 months.

Killer Queen is a top track of all time! The rest of the tracks on the album aren't as memorable but good

Classic!!

I am a huge Queen fan, but this is one of those albums I know the least, so this was a great opportunity to listen to it thoroughly. When the movie Baby Driver came out I remember listening to Brighton Rock over and over again. That was a great movie and I became a fan of the song too. The rest of the album is still growing on me. Standouts: Killer Queen Brighton Rock Lily of the Valley & Dear Friends

Solid Queen album. Killer Queen itself is a stone cold classic, the rest of the album is decent enough.

Queen is always good

Inconsistent but the high points are very well done

great album, love queen

I love Queen and this is one of my favorites from them. It flows well, it’s catchy, it rocks in a classic timeless way.

It turns out I’d never listened to a Queen album before, having assumed they were nothing but a greatest hits band with some great hits, but this really thrilled me. Freddie’s voice is always a charm. It’s just as mental and hops hither and yon like a greatest hits album, but it’s also tighter, less polished and frankly more fun. Big digs.

very solid album, Killer Queen is awesome!

Queen, what a classic album. Love Freddie's voice and this rock album have the signature queen sound throughout. There are very inspiring elements that sounds like they were made today and not in 1974.

AWEFUCKINGSOME

Queen playing some thrash metal before thrash metal even existed (Stone Cold Crazy). As with most Queen album it's a mad mish-mash of various genres with some hits and some duds. Fortunately the hits outweigh the duds on this one. Best track: Stone Cold Crazy

The album that saw Queen really hit their stride. Excellent songs (Flick of the Wrist especially being an underrated Queen song), but the production can make the project feel a little dated. The foreshadowing of ideas that would be explored later in their catalogue is always fun though!

We Will Rock You We are the champions Get down make love It's late

Un descubrimiento de esos años

I haven’t listened to this album before. I’ve always thought of Queen as a “best of” band. But this album proves me wrong. They are really good at guitar effects/layering and Freddie Mercury operatic/hair metal singing range/layering and it really shines in spacey, ethereal songs like “in the lap of the gods.” What really stood out to me on this album though was the harder rocking bangers like “Brighton Rock” and “Stone Cold Crazy” I didn’t know they had that arrow on their quiver, these songs blew me away. It’s cool that they added the layer of near seamless transitions between songs. I hear opera, hair metal, classic rock, even a little punk. I found myself a little less excited about a few of their songs that sounded like classic rock standards, almost southern rock, they were still solid songs but weren’t as strong and killed the vibe, I would’ve removed them completely. At the end of the album I was blown away by “she Makes me” it sounded like proto New Wave or proto Brit Pop, in fact I feel like there’s a song that straight rips it off. I feel like this albums deserves a 5, much of the album does, but there were a couple filler songs dragging it down that could’ve been cut. A-

Good album

I'm not a huge Queen fan, and I've never listened to one of their albums end to end. This was a real treat for me, as I actually found that the tracks that didn't make it to the radio resonated with me more than the singles that did. I'm definitely going to be exploring more of their catalog.

Listened to it 3 times - very enjoyable 😉

My brother and I are debating who bought this album, but nevertheless, I remember playing the first song, Brighton Rock, over and over, because of the heavy, echo-y guitar solo. I had forgotten the rest of the album, but it sounds pretty good now, especially the sequence of tracks after the radio hit. Well-crafted songs & Brian May really rocks.

Kirā Kuīn

Great album, Queen always has a very "storytelling" sound that I appreciate particularly in this album

Línea Queen. Siempre espectaculares

The beginning disappointed me a bit, but from some point on I loved it

Killer Queen is tattooed on my brain from Guitar Hero. Enjoyed this one

Pretty good

Hard rock. Muy bueno.

It's Queen, what more do you want? Classic hard rock

Love it. Print it. Done. Good.

Amazing album, not Queens best work but definitely the cornerstone of what they’re known for musically 4.4

Great album

Pretty good album, some great guitar parts

Enjoyed this album. I've heard a couple of the songs, but was not aware of or have listened to the entire album. Love Queen's harmonies. It did occur to me listening to it, that a lot of their stuff is reminiscent of show tunes, don't know if that was in their roots, but it feels like it.

Classic. Good shit right here

Fun album - Queen has a wider range than I realized.

Incredible. Loved the weirdness of "Lap of the Gods"!

fuck yeah Queen

High rating because it’s Queen. Really good at points. Maybe it’s a 3 star and I’m just biased.

So fun. Queen is wonderful, and it's interesting hearing some of their earlier sounds.

I've never been a massive fan of Queen apart from the hits but this was pretty good and I can't deny their musical importance so it's a thumbs up from Cress.

This was good but there's better Queen albums IMO

A classic, and rightly so.

I enjoyed the album. It’s an album of theirs that I don’t think I ever listened to all the way through.

Queen sendo foda, como sempre. Não é meu álbum favorito, mas é muito bom.

Is it sacrilegious to say this is better than "Night at the Opera"? Probably. But it is.

Very strong start to the album and a good variety of sounds. Unfortunately I think the back half of the album is a little more boring. I keep going back and forth between 3 and 4, but i think i can mark it as 4

I've never been overly fussed about Queen's albums, so I'd never actually listened to this before. Some of the songs are interesting but most feel disposable. Love Killer Queen tho.

Queen never made good consistent albums. They are a singles bands and im sick im pretending theyr not. Truth is, I was never a big fan of Queen. Its like a 7/10. However Queen did had one of the greatest singer of all time. Rip Freddie. Brian May is killing it on this album damn. Overall, this album could be a 4/5 if it wasnt for the filler tracks. I think its a way better album than "A nigth at the opera".

Some great tunes on this one. Some of the best Queen I've heard. 6/10

By rights, as a former theatre kid, I should be a big Queen fan, but for some reason they've left me cold more often than not. I think the maximalism of their music distracts me from the core of the songs. The tracks on this didn't particularly stand out to me, though it was a fun vibe. Might need to revisit when I'm in a better mood. Rating: 3

O dosť lepšie ako A night ať the opera...

I’ve only really ever listened to The Hits, so this was pretty fresh for me. Understanding the hype a bit better. The mix is a little wonky sometimes, but the guitar tones are of particular interest to me. Brian was dialed in. My favorite moments are those where the proto-metal / baroque / glam are dialed up. Layered guitar lead harmonies and gang vocals will always be a hit with me. Lot of sounds packed into 38 minutes. You’d expect an album that short to feel ‘focused’, but this is phrenetic and occasionally crosses the line into gonzo camp. No value judgment there, just an observation. Fav trax: ‘Tenement Funster’, ‘Stone Cold Crazy’, ‘She Makes Me (Stormtrooper In Stilettos)’, ‘In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited’

Love Killer Queen, I just don't think this is Queen's best

Nothing but love for Queen!

Lap of the gods sounds like a Mac book starting… got me thinking it would be a cool play by Apple if it were considering “lap top” lap of the gods… I dunno. No weed was smoked thinking this.

Sheer Heart Attack is a tough transition album for me. Queen's first two albums really focused on hard rock and there are some REALLY rocking songs on there. Then Night at the Opera is art rock at its finest. This album finds itself somewhere in the middle and it doesn't work for me. Plus half the songs sound half finished or rushed. Still better than a lot of other music, just some of queens weaker music in my opinion.

Liked it. I was very good hearing non mainstream and movie related Queen.

I don't want to hate on Queen or Freddie, I really don't. But this kind of theatrical melodramatic operatic rock is just not for me, and maybe the reason I never liked them that much. It's the piano isn't it?

mehhhmeehhhh

It's not my favourite queen album and one that I'm not too familiar with like others of theirs. There are some enjoyable tracks but some very random ones too. 3.5

It's their "break through" album. It's not night at the opera. Queen isn't some monolithic band that could do no wrong, this album was ok. Killer Queen is a supernova for sure, but take that away and its operatic rock. Freddy's lyrics and vocals still hadn't found their way yet, even if the rest of the band was well underway. He would, of course, overtake them to be one of the most iconic front men ever.... it just didn't happen here.

Alright

Glam rock is a fun genre, and I appreciate the theatricality of Queen. But it all just feels kinda like novelty music to me.

“Man they sound a lot like Queen.. oh wait..”

Fine for queen, nothing to get excited about

I'm not a big Queen fan but I listened to the album with pleasure and some nostalgia

Quite cool, loved Queen always but never really got into them, would rate the whole album like 4 and half maybe

quite nice

Queen is a great band with plenty of amazing songs. Unfortunately, they weren't all that good at putting cohesive albums together and so their records are frequently littered with weird and annoying filler in between some of the greatest songs ever written. Sheer Heart Attack is definitely on the upper end of Queen albums but I'd still prefer their Greatest Hits collection over basically any album they've ever put out.

Im not the biggest fan of queen

Hard rock, glam rock.

𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 feels like a band in the middle of figuring out just how much they could do. There’s no shortage of ambition here, and you can already hear many of the ideas that would define Queen at their best. At times, though, the album feels a little scattered, as if it’s reaching in several directions at once without fully committing to any of them. 𝗞𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗲𝗻 is the obvious exception. It’s one of the sharpest and most memorable songs in the band’s catalogue, and for me it easily stands above everything else on the album. The rest is perfectly enjoyable, but I never shake the feeling that Queen would do this sort of thing even better on later records. For me, 𝘚𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘳 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘵𝘵𝘢𝘤𝘬 is an interesting step toward greatness rather than greatness itself.

Always refreshing to hear something other than the singles from the world's most overrated and overplayed glam prog band, but it's a shame when the "highlights" are limited to the forgettable or downright silly. If I'd never heard Queen before it would probably score higher.

it's pretty spectacular in parts. maybe a weaker back half, and honestly doesn't have any peak Queen (of which there is plenty). favorite is Flick Of The Wrist, but that one bit in Brighton Rock is extremely sick. strong 3

Rating: 6/10 It's decent and never not enjoyable but is not the strongest collection of songs for me, I don't really see Queen as an full albums band. It doesn't help that the first two tracks Brighton Rock and the great Killer Queen are the best the album has to offer in my opinion. Put like any of these songs on the aux and I'm having a pretty good time

I've never been too into Queen and this album didn't change that either. It wasn't bad but I've always thought they've been more of a singles band, and tbf this album did show that they had decent deep cuts since the big single off this album (Killer Queen) is one of my least favs. Still though, not bad and enjoyable/energetic enough to listen to, but nothing too memorable 3/5.

Bit of a mixed bag for me. Some all-timers on this track list for sure though.

It's queen, everyone loves queen. I dont find queen that interesting as I used to when discovering them and not being so open to music like today. They're ok, with great melodies

Solid songs, Killer Queen is still a banger!

Whiplash on this album! So many different song styles. I enjoyed some a lot and others less so. Queen is a great band with obvious skill, but I can’t rate it super high with the lack of cohesion

I don’t think I had actually listened to full queen album before. It’s usually just been the greatest hits. Overall, I thought the album was solid, with some enjoyable songs scattered throughout. Transitions from song to song were immaculate, which helped heighten the album as well. Favorite song: Killer Queen

Mostly forgettable. Stone Cold Crazy was pretty good. Idk whether I loved or hated Lily of the Valley, but its one of the few I remembered.

Florid

A couple great songs. 3

6.0/10

Ihan täyttä Queeniä, mutta kappaleet ei paria klassikkoa lukuunottamatta ollut niin erikoisia. Parhaat: Killer Queen, Stone Cold Crazy

I don’t know how I feel about this album. There’s a couple good songs at the beginning mostly killer Queen and the first four songs other than that I don’t know if I would listen to the rest of this again it got real weird at the end and I couldn’t finish it. Which is awkward. But maybe it’s just not what I’m in the mood for. OK, that’s all. 3.3/5

It’s so interesting to me how nearly all Queen albums sound so similar. Some have hits, like this one with Killer Queen while others don’t.

It’s a classic classic rock album—Now I’m Here slaps

just not my genre

Queen had a lot of albums and a lot of songs. This album focuses more on their rock side, with songs like Stone Cold Crazy, which was later covered by Metallica and caused a renaissance of the original. But that doesn’t mean that Brian, Freddie, John and Roger didn’t slip in a little operatic flair, like on Lily of the Valley. I liked Now I’m Here because it featured a bit of both sides. In the Lap of the Gods, did the same thing, with Freddie’s soaring vocals only matched by Brian’s equally soaring guitar work. Then there are quirk songs like Killer Queen, which no other band could have gotten away with. I still think that I am more of a Queen Best of (I&II) kind of person, but I enjoyed this album best when compared to their others.

Random thoughts: * I forget that Queen has an extensive catalog. That's how you end up with at least a double disc of greatest hits. * How do you transverse from greatest hits to actual fan? I've clearly made that transition for the Beatles and Zeppelin but am still really a greatest hits guy with Queen. * Key tracks on this album were Killer Queen and Now I'm Here. * Nice mix of 70s rock, musical/jazz, and operatic styles. Queen contains multitudes. * Do I think this album is necessary? Not really once you've heard Killer Queen. Back to my pondering above on transversing from greatest hits guy to fan. * Someday I might cross that threshold from greatest hits to the whole catalog for Queen. Not yet though.

Some classics that are great earworms, so others that deserve to remain in obscurity. Not their best work but damn, it would have been explosive when brand new.

Classic Rock, Classic Queen - Double Album Delight

Theatrical and energetic. A bunch of songs I was unfamiliar with.

ik dacht dat ik dit album beter vond eerlijk gezegd. killer queen en in the lap of the gods zijn wel echt bangers

Can't go wrong with a bit of Queen. Mercury's voice is an all-timer, May's guitar work is something to behold, and the rhythm section of Taylor and Deacon is tight as hell. So why the lower rating? Well, it's not that cohesive as an album on the whole. I found the first half to be stronger than the last, and a few songs felt a little over-the-top with their theatrics. It's a mixed bag, but I still enjoyed myself here. Favourite track: Brighton Rock Least favourite track: In The Lap Of The Gods

Solid album.

Mostly decent debut. Stone Cold Crazy and Killer Queen are definitely the highlights. They would get more interesting on subsequent releases though.

Not bad

It’s a Queen album.

Just a little over the top, musical-esque nonsense. I see why it's beloved but it's impossible to listen to for pure enjoyment.

What a voice this Mercury guy has! I bet he has the pick of all the ladies.

Not bad

(4/7) fun overall but "Killer Queen" is the only thing that stood out

Killer Queen er KLART det bedste nummer, men det er alt sammen ret godt. Kan nok være en virkelig god plade hvis jeg er i humør til den slags, det var jeg vist ikke helt i dag

Loads of great songs. Just high class all around. 3+

This Freddie Mercury guy is pretty good at writing songs. A bit better than the rest of his band I would say.

Not much to say, it’s just mid.

Freddie Mercury is a beautiful soul, the whole Queen gestalt is great. I enjoyed many of the songs on this album, but their catalog is so large, it's hard to condense the love into any one album.

never listened to queen beyond the hits, very interesting to hear some of the diversity of sound on this album

Killer Queen is the best song of the album

This website is definitley making me learn things about myself… when I first saw that this was a Queen album I mentally already marked it as 5 stars because I obviously know their most famous songs and love them to death and have listened to them millions of times and assumed the rest of their work would most probably appeal to me similarly.. but! I found that I didn’t really like this album that much. Shocking! I only liked Killer Queen and In The Lap of Gods. The rest was too rock-y for me. I can appreciate that their sound is unique and you just KNOW this is Queen when listening, but I just didn’t like the sound that much.. don’t kill me but.. 3 stars is what I’m giving. Not because I think it’s a mediocre album, but I rate based on how much I personally like the sound of the music.

Its great sonically but really no emotional pull for me. I generally like to feel something when I listen to my music, this felt like fun, but no feelings.

A classic album suffering from the wrong first song Brighton rock would be great if it was 2.5 mins long - the whole guitar section is just dull Queen are like a rocky version of sparks , bombastic songs with a musical theater bent Generally good and only stopped from being great by a couple of songs

Alright

This was the first time I ever listened to a Queen album. It's a lot, which was bearable for most times, but there was times it was too theatrically/out there and it didn't land on my ears well.

Queen is a "Greatest Hits" band for me. I am only listening to their full albums now. I love their theatrical lean and guitar tones. I found some of this album to be remarkable and some to be boring. The backwards guitar tone on Lily of the Valley is SO GOOD, but it's just the one moment, why didn't they repeat that 100 times? I should have produced this album! I'm really torn if this should be a 3 or 4. I hate to rank it the same as a GnR album, but here we are.

How did this end up between Queen II and A Night at the Opera? This album seems to lean into the "hard" rock stuff which comes off wimpy, and the glam and theatricality which (despite myself) carries the latter album and Queen's otherwise career just isn't there yet. Killer Queen is of course the exception, but yeah, nothing album otherwise. Weird middle ground.

It’s a good queen album. It’s not their best.

chemistry 11 teacher music lol

killer queen e muito bom o resto e ok

All the hallmarks of the band are there still being refined. A tad uneven. Some excellent songs, others can be skipped.

Queen can rock when they want to. Any time they are rocking is good for me. I really don't enjoy the things that probably differentiate Queen from other rock bands of the era like the operatic vocal harmonies etc. Like if you have a sweet fat 70's guitar riff and then someone offers to do barbershop over it, now you just have something lesser than the constituent parts.

Part of the reason why I want to do The List is so I can figure out who's All Killer & No Filler. This is one of those albums that appear to be all Filler, very little Killer with Killer Queen being the hit to casual fans. BUT? Is it Filler? Somebody likes those other songs. It's opinion. My favorite song on the album is not going to be same as yours but it could be. Queen's music tends to be Everything & Anything. So you'll have an interesting music of genres & sounds. Falsetto, Metal, operatic music, piano driven ballads, rockabilly, hard rock, more falsetto & of course Freddie Fuckin' Mercury.

Good album, maybe one of the weaker Queen albums but still high above most newer stuff

😎 Cool! I was very excited to explore an entire Queen album, especially when I had never heard of before. I found this to be enjoyable...... But ultimately pretty forgettable.

Liked it, didn’t love.

Like it 3/5

Hmm, can't say I had very many thoughts about it. Probably good to listen to in the background if you're driving or working.

Queen is at their best when they're at their most theatrical, and there are times here when they fully commit, but other times where they don't. Songs like Stone Cold Crazy, In The Lap of the Gods, and the first two tracks fulfill the genre label of "glam rock", sounding both epic and ridiculously fun. Other tracks feel a lot more dull, and like they could be made by any random 70s band. They don't go full hard rock, but they aren't particularly theatrical either, so they just don't emotionally register for me. Of course, the standout part of the album is Freddie Mercury, who more than proves why he's considered one of the greatest performers ever. The worst thing that a band like Queen can be is dull, and unfortunately on this album, they fall into that trap too many times.

Más rockerito que el anterior pero menos experimental que me parece que es donde brilla queen. Cool pero no tan cool.

I can only imagine how cool it must have been to be a teenager when this came out. Unfortunately when I was a teenager everyone I knew was listening to Brendon Urie. Anyways, good album. Felt a little all over the place ranging from iconic to uncomfortable (for me). A solid 3. Season: Early Summer Favorite Song: Killer Queen

Like the other two Queen albums we've gotten on this list, I think this one is definitely carried by its hits. That said, several of the non-hits on here were just as good, and while I still put this as a 7/10 alongside the other two, I think this one might've done the best of the three as an album experience - helped along by how consistently hard it rocks!

This is kinda the same as all the other Queen albums for me. A couple great songs (in this case, the first two) and a bunch of decent but largely forgettable ones.

Another middle of the road album by Queen! There was a brief period where this absolutely killed and I thought it might be a 4 but it backslid hard in the second half and they started doing silly bullshit again.

The album wasn't bad, but it is an example of even a band made up of highly talented musician won't always create a good album.

There’s something naff about Queen, but this is probably (in my opinion) their best era. Sci-fi, operatic and some fun tunes

Suprisingly good

Listens: 2 Standout Tracks: Killer Queen I don't much care for glam rock, and I am discovering that I really only like Queen's greatest hits, of which that album has one song. As such, this is unexciting to me.

Not my best Queen pick, Still love killer queen

After one listen I had this at a 2 with no plans to listen again. The.listened again anyway and liked it a little more. Every time I listen I like it more. It’s a mood dependent album for sure but overall, pretty good. Killer Queen is of course the best song.

Hell yeah Queen

C'est bon Queen mais chaque fois que j'en entends, j'ai vraiment hâte que ça finisse.

Decent Queen album, but notably weaker than a lot of their discography in my opinion. A few bangers songs and nice transitions between songs on the A side make this a fun listen, but definitely not Queen at the height of their ability. Top tracks: Killer Queen, Now I'm Here, Stone Cold Crazy

Always awesome

Lindo, pero monótono

The intro all the way to track 7 is great, and the rest is just alright to me.

variado, buenas transiciones killer queen, stone cold crazy y she makes me favs

Never listened to too many deep tracks by Queen. Good, but had to rate in the middle.

Plano a mi gusto se siente repetitivo

Queen igen. Den kickar igång bra med Brighton Rock och flera bra efterföljande låtar. Tappar intresset efter halva skivan, allt har samma Queensound och det blir tröttsamt i längden. 3:a.

A whole album from this era of Queen is just too much of everything. The highs are great but a lot of this album is the guys futzing around.

This is a proper mixed bag! I'm not a massive fan of Queen, but this has some of my favourite and least favourite Queen songs on it. "It's always a hit or miss so take your aim" perfectly sums it up. I must give a mention to Leroy Brown because, although I didn't like it, it was a great listen and I was not aware Queen had a song in this style. Favourites: Brighton Rock Killer Queen Stone Cold Crazy

I love Queen but this is my least favorite album, or atleast up there (or down there I guess?). Love killer queen though.

I think the movie absolutely ruined Queen for me..

Zone out a bit. Kept it interesting

I really did not like that first song. Brought my rating down a star.

Was never a bad listen, but Killer Queen is the only one that really stood out to me and only because I already heard it. Maybe I should give it another listen but that's a lot of work.

Enjoyed it, but not as much as I thought I would
