I’ve just gave 3 albums in a row (Doors , Michael Jackson, Beach Boys) 5/5’s and while this album is certainly great it’s not in that same level to be honest I like it though 4/5.
Wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did mainly because I didn't like Hotel California when I was growing up. After a good listen, I think I do appreciate it more, especially the instrumentals, which are great. Definitely dad music. Fave track(s): Hotel California, New Kid in Town

I really enjoyed this. I think the lyrics in Hotel California are so great. It's definitely not the genre I would listen to on a daily basis but I think it's great.
Glad I finally listened to this classic. It's sweetly mellow and melodramatic. Some of the lyricism feels a little dated but it has a soft, comforting feeling. The title track is still among the greatest I've ever listened to, and I also really loved New Kid in Town and Try and Love Again.
It’s one of the best selling albums ever for a reason. All of the songs were at the very least a good listen while songs like wasted time and obviously the title track are amazing. Life in the fast lane is lame and overrated though
Pretty okay dad rock, nothing you havent heard before. I like that there are multiple different singers, keeps the record fresh.
The title cut is the Pachelbel's Canon of classic rock. Some people love it, some people hate it, but it's got this freaking endless cyclical progression that never ends, ultimately causing the listener madness as it repeats infinitely in the background of the brain. You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave, indeed. There is some really good songwriting and performance on this record, there's a good reason it is somewhat legendary, above and beyond the aforementioned madness thing.
a couple megahits, a couple deep cuts. The rest is pretty chill, like borderline folk or country. But the hits are a bullseye.

what can you say it’s hotel fucking california
Of course, the title track is one for the ages, as overplayed as it is. It's just epic how the two guitars soloing at the end of this stellar song finally join for a common climax. But when it comes to the album itself, it's the very definition of a *flawed* concept album. A significant chunk of those tracks sound a little ridiculous today, and the obvious ambition of this thing doesn't mesh well with its clear failures in execution, both musically and lyrically. Yet oddly enough, this is also a concept album about *failure* itself (mostly the failure of the American Dream). And in that sense, the overall cheesiness does bring an extra layer that makes the album a very interesting one to listen to, at least on an "intellectual" level. Whether all of that was intended or not is another story, but maybe it doesn't matter so much. It's only a little disappointing that the music is almost never as dark and intense as in closer "The Last Resort". The concept behind this record justified going to darker territories. One can't help regretting this missed opportunity here. But maybe for once, the legendary opener and its negative counterpart at the very end are enough to justify including this album on a list of 1001 essential albums to listen to. What's in between might be cheesy, but it's part of the unapolegetically despondent equation that *Hotel California* really is. Anyway, it would be a shame dying without at least having given a fair try to the fucking Eagles, man. If only because it's the only way to then state how much you hate them, just like the Dude did. i have grown up hating the eagles and thought they were a no good bad band. however after listening to this album i am wondering if i have been BRAINWASHED by my father. i liked this album. significantly.
It's strange how a band can rip so hard at times and then be completely blah at others. Still, probably more highs than lows.
Yeah, yeah, I'm a fan of The Big Lebowski AND I like the Eagles. For me, this album is all about nostalgia, it got played a lot when I was a kid. The production, musicianship and guitar work are top notch. The opening of Hotel California gets me every time! The second half (in terms of side B on the LP), starts to feel a bit dreary. I like the anecdote about "The Last Resort" taking days to record, because they kept messing up because Black Sabbath were making too much noise in the studio next door!

Un exemple d'hotellerie rock offert ici par nos compères des Eagles. Les serviettes sont parfaitement pliées dans la chambre, et le code wifi a bien été communiqué dès l'arrivée dans l'établissement. Petit bémol: un seul échantillon de shampoing a été fourni, alors que la reservation précisait bien que deux personnes séjourneraient au sein de l'hôtel. On ne leur en tient pas rigueur et leur accorde la note de 4 étoiles sur 5.

Its a good listen. Some classic bangers included. It falls short of being a perfect classic album though as a whole.
Easy listening, actually a bit more mellow music than I expected, not so much rock as was my previous expectation for an eagles album

Here’s another iconic album that’s kind of hard to judge on it’s own merits because of the massive legacy that surrounds it. The first side can almost live up to the hype, in my opinion. A really strong start but it does lose momentum on the flip side. I like the anti-corporate American vibes of the closing track but the rest had little impact on me. Haters gunna hate and I think hating Eagles is what the cool kids are about, but screw them, I’m going to dig through my top draw for my capo and lock in on to 7th fret like I don’t give a fuck.

I really liked rock songs on it but not a fan of their ballads. But I was surprised, since I don't like hotel California (the song) I wasn't expecting to actually like the album. I will listen to it again.

Great Album
Off to a great start with the classic Hotel California. You can never go wrong with this song! I put the album on while working and loved it. I feel you could put this album on at almost any time and could appreciate it. Wasted Time is so soothing, it's otherworldly. It sounds like it was made for a movie like the Never Ending Story. Good album, not too long.
The classicest of Eagles rock
Hard to really know what to give this album. A really well produced album with some great tracks, but the remaining tracks are a snooze fest of middle of the road soft rock. 3.5 out of 5 for me, but will bump to 4 cause of Hotel California

They definitely had it. Writing, execution, recording. I am a bit tired of the Eagles - I wonder how I would rate it had I never heard it/them previously.

Title track solo is legendary, gotta learn that so I can steal some licks from it. Life in the fast lane is great and victim of love is pretty good but the whole rest of the album kinda failed to strike a chord with me. Not saying it's bad but it's just not my speed. Drumming gets stale when you listen to the whole album all the way through but I get why. Would be 3 stars but that solo kicks it up to 4 all by itself imo.

Ah, my second Eagles' album and this must also be my California week with 3 out the five artists from LA. This is the Eagles' fifth album with Joe Walsh replacing founding member Bernie Leadon on guitar. It found them moving away from country rock into more rock. Although, there still are some slower-paced songs. In fact, each side closer, "Wasted Time" and "The Last Resort " has a pretty lush string arrangement. According to Don Henley, the album is about the loss of innocence, perils of fame, illusions vs. reality. I agree with that especially the title song. However, there are a number of songs about relationships too. Henley also said this was the peak of the band and they starting growing apart after this. I guess hard to top one of the best selling albums of all time. Besides the title track, other standouts include: "New Kid in Town" - just a nice sounding song, more in that country rock genre to me, "Life in the Fast Lane" - OK, this is more rock, written by Glenn Frey after a discussion with his drug dealer, I can't help thinking about that band covering this song in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," "Victum of Love" - always liked the guitar. This album was easy to listen to with its iconic songs. Honestly, I'd give the slight edge, for me, to their first album which I just had last week.
The titel song obviously a classic, and several other of the Eagles top songs are included here. However also a few fillers, that do not stand the test of time. So therefore not a 5 star album in my World, but close

Is it lyrically complex, meaningful, or anything other than stadium rock? No. Is it still enjoyable? Yes.

A pleasant journey. I would say it's a perfect road trip album. I was exposed to it many times before - when I was a kid my parents used to play it from a MC while driving. Hotel California brings the good vibes. It's a bit melancholic, laid-back and 70s. However, I don't find it particularly ear-wormy apart from the title song. Highlight: Victim of Love
W przeciwieństwie do Dude'a z Big Lebowski, nie mam nic do Eaglesów. Ale również jakiejś wielkiej sympatii. Oczywiście że Hotel California jest zajebisty. Wszystkie kawałki tu są przyjemne, ale żaden nie jest już jakimś hitem. Idealna muzyka do posiadówy czy przejażdżki - jednocześnie ambitniejsza, a nie tak kontrowersyjna. Niemniej jednak porwać nie porwało, daję po prostu 4.
A classic. Trails off a little there at the end, but still a good album
You know it's a hugely popular album when you're intimately familiar with 6 of the 9 songs, even though you've never actually listened to the album. I've never been a huge fan, but I have to give them credit for what I'm sure everyone would consider their pinnacle. I think Joe Walsh was good for the band. Without him I suspect they would have been firmly in the soft rock/easy listening category, but he gave them a bit more of an edge. Enough at least that I enjoy listening. 4 stars.
Overplayed but still great
I'm not the biggest Eagles fan in the world, but this was pretty good, and I'm glad I checked it out. I think the title track was a strange choice as an opener. Anyway, the band's chiller vibe is kind of hit or miss for me, but the album was still a good listen, even if I don't expect to return to its deep cuts anytime soon.
The Eagles made some classic songs and they will always hold a place in my nostalgia folder but they never took any chances. All their songs are just "safe" so they safely appeal to everyone but there is nothing cutting edge about them or awesome. They are just chill and mellow.
A great classic album. The A-side is a collection of great songs, but it honestly drags a little bit on the B-side. I expected to have more to say about such a classic album but I don't. But it is still a great album.
I have a playlist of my favorite songs of all time. Only one song allowed per band. Hotel California is the first song I put on that list, and I think it still belongs on there. The rest of the album is in the 3-4 range for me. Maybe a few too many ballads, I like them but as a spice rather than the full meal.

A masterpiece
I liked this more than I thought I would but it's not the kind of thing I can see myself putting on often... ... although if I ever do get a nice little home to call my own, with a little area I can sit and watch the rain bucket down and batter the windows, I could see this spinning on vinyl as I had a cup of tea and settled into my favourite comfy chair.
The title track is one of my favorites, and frequently wins radio station polls. The rockers are always fun, and make this one of my top picks. The Eagles reliably deliver the full, polished sound of a real rock band, even in the songs where they're whining instead of rocking. I appreciated the slow songs more this time, since I listened more consciously than I usually do. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the album. I was a little exasperated by Don Henley's perpetually bleeding heart, but that might just be a lack of patience with his slow ones. I loved every song on the Boys of Summer alblum, and I don't have as much trouble with Rufus Wainwright's bleeding heart.

The first side of this record and Victim of Love are all pretty good. The Last Resort is a little embarrassing, maybe more so now than it was then. But I LOVE the story that The Eagles had to stop recording this sometimes because Black Sabbath was being too loud in an adjacent studio. Anyway, I don't hate the Eagles and the songs are pretty catchy. I like the song Hotel California mostly for the eerie weirdness of the story. It's close enough to a horror movie to enjoy. And I like Life in the Fast Lane because I dig a good Hollywood live-fast-die-young story. I also like the production stories on this one. Is the music worth 4 stars? I don't know. But the whole package of this one gets it there, I think.
Album good
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed this album and although I have heard of the Eagles, I haven't really listened to much and thought they were just American Country. Hotel California is a great concept album by their own admission. It embodies all of the themes and connotations of what California encompasses, the allure of the glitz and glamour of Hollywood but it also speaks to the illusion of it all. Best: Hotel California; The New Kid in Town Worst: The Last Resort

The Eagles are a band that while they don't appeal to my personal preference for music I like to come back to over and over, I can acknowledge and appreciate their talent in their songs. This was a pretty solid album, until the last song. I'm all for a protest song but found The Last Resort so bland and blatant that i feel it drags down the rest of the album.
I love Henley's voice and the lead guitar backing on almost every song. Hotel and Fast Lane are GD masterpieces, but a couple tracks come in on the boring side as well.

Classic. Really enjoyed the exploration of the theme of the destruction of paradise, loss of innocence etc. Much more urban than their earlier cowboy themes. Gets better with every listen. Cover art: 4.5/5 iconic cover picking up on musical themes.
Many bangers
I am a casual fan of EAGLES having most of their music due to liking most of their hits. I have HOTEL CALIFORNIA and I like the album well enough. After re-listening to HOTEL CALIFORNIA, I enjoy the album especially the hits: "Hotel California", "Life in the Fast Lane" and "New Kid in Town", however, since I am an album oriented person, the remaining 2/3 (6 songs) are decent, but are not consistent enough to hold up the three major hits. The six non-hits seem almost like filler, but actually a little better than that. I think that is true for all or most of their albums and that the reason why I am only a casual fan and not a die-hard one. In 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, there is the debut album, EAGLES (1972) in the book #260. The majority of this album is on their greatest hits, Volume 2. I remember when I was in high school listening to Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2 over and over again. I grew out of the Eagles. Part of it is that the only song the play on the radio is "Hotel California," which grew tedious. And then they were having a farewell tour, but then changed their minds. They could have gone out in a big finale, but decided "nah, let's not do that." That bugs me still. The few songs not on their greatest hits are also good, although I do not like how "Pretty Maids All In A Row" fades out. It's like Walsh couldn't figure out how to end the song. And Joe Walsh was the secret weapon for that band in this album, man. He was just... awesome. I don't think I would revisit the album, but it was nice to come back to once again.
I feel like I should give this a 5 - after all, it's a classic and includes worthy hits such as Hotel California (love the guitar solos at the end) and Life in the Fast Lane. But there's just something about the album that I find underwhelming. Maybe it's a little too perfect, a little too polished. It just doesn't make me say "I want to listen to this again." I even listened to it multiple times to see if I was missing something, but no. So, I'm giving it a 4. Great songs, including some stone cold classics (I also like Victim of Love), but it's just missing that je ne sais quoi.

Title track is a masterpiece, and the greatest thing this band of white penny-pinching douchebags ever did. I've got a soft spot for Wasted Time too. Rest of the album is immaculately performed, with everything in the right place. But with 0% recklessness, the vital ingredient for a rock band.
It's an album that's so much in my general consciousness that I think I can almost recreate it playing spoons and tapping my feet

Damn good album. Solid from cover to cover. I give it a 4 but I sure as hell wont give it higher than that; out of sheer principle and me fighting my conversion into my father.

Classic Eagles, what a good album, love the title track, This is more west Coast Rock than earlier Eagles Country Rock. (Possibly Joe Walsh's Influence?) Life in the Fast Lane, was apparently influenced by a conversation between Glen Frey and a Drug Dealer during a highspeed car ride! Liked the more rockier sound when this came out and Hotel California has to be an all time classic single.

First 3 songs have been embedded in my soul since I was a kid. Rest were mostly a pleasant surprise, even if a couple might have been a tad long. 7/10
Hotel California, The Eagles (1976). Listened on 9/16/21, during/after a shower, and again while rating. “Hotel California” the song suffers from being overplayed on classic rock stations, but it’s a good song with good guitar and of course a Steely Dan reference (“stab it with their steely knives”). “New Kid in Town” is almost too slow and almost too country for me, but I’m glad I gave it the time of day. “Life in the Fast Lane” always seemed like a later song to me, probably because I was picturing 1980s yuppies in that car. “Wasted Time” has some Elton John-style vibes at some points, but it doesn’t really land for me. I’m referring to the first “Wasted Time” on the tracklist, as there is a second with an apparently identical title that is more just a symphonic interlude. “Victim of Love” is fine. I’m glad I listened to the album a second time, because I had kind of zoned out during the penultimate two songs and figured I didn’t like them. It was more that they didn’t grab me, but I liked both more on second listen, “Pretty Maids All in a Row” a bit more than “Try and Love Again”. The final song, appropriately “The Last Resort”, is my favorite. I still remember my 11th grade history teacher playing it for us, complete with printed lyric sheet, and highlighting how it corresponded with Manifest Destiny. “She came from Providence,” he quoted, making the analogy that proponents saw it as fate-given, God-given, but, boom, the line is immediately followed by “the one IN RHODE ISLAND” he emphasized: it’s just people coming from the East Coast. Very hard to decide the rating here. No doubting that there are some 5 star tracks (wasted time, new kid in town, pretty maids) but for some reason the album doesnt blend into a 5 star experience for me and I'm not sure why.
50% absolute classics, 50% slightly above average middle-of-the-road rock.
Was pretty familiar with this album before this generator, and my opinion hasn't changed all that much. Title track never gets old, I still love Life in the Fast Lane even if it is a little corny, Wasted Time is good even if a little too singsongy. It probably is a little overrated and it feels too long, enough to the point that the concept album appeal loses me, but it's still a cohesive and fun listen. Enjoyed seeing all the global reviews reference that Big Lebowski quote about the Eagles Already Saved: Hotel California; Life in the Fast Lane; Wasted Time Saved After Listening: New Kid in Town, Victim of Love*, The Last Resort
This album gets 4 starts solely because of hotel California. Life in the fast lane is also a classic but None of the other songs on the album were of the same caliber. Very strange but glad this made it to the list

Very solid classic rock. The title track will always be a welcome listen for me. The rest of the tracks shine as well although I could do without a ballad like wasted time

It was great the first half of the album, but become less engaging in the second half. It is still a nice album to listen to however. Stripped down instrumentals and vocals are a great sound.

So far I actually rather enjoy this album. Though I don't really like the actual song Hotel California because I hear it all the time and it has become a bit repetetive. I like the album, and some of the songs are rather neat. I like the variety.

The Eagles start these little reviews. Which is quite apt, really, as one of my earliest memories of being in a record shop is picking up an Eagles CD (not knowing who they were) and trying to convince my mum to buy me it. She didn't. Anyhow, I know a fair few songs from this album - who doesn't? - but somewhat surprisingly have never listen to the thing as a whole. It reminds me a little of get-togethers my parents would have with their friends around our house when I was little. A seven or eight year old me would sit on the stairs in my pyjamas, hoping they'd let me down and have a piece of cake, and some of these Eagles records would be part of a compilation that played, drowned out by the chatter. Historical hangovers aside, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it on a run through the woods. This ain't my typical cup of tea music wise if I'm honest, but you can't doubt the ability and talent on offer and I can admire that. Hotel California might be a little overplayed but wow, it is still some record.
Now this is what I call Dad™️ Music. Good stuff, but there is some self-loathing required to like it.

Okay so obviously I’m familiar with the hits on this one... Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane.... all a little corny imo. Hotel California has some undeniably delicious riffs in it but Life in the Fast Lane is just the worst. I never realized how much of a concept album it was until actually listening to the whole thing front to back. There’s definitely a story being told here. I can imagine when this came out everyone lost their minds because it’s a bit cinematic. Victim of Love is kinda sexy too. This album lost to Rumours for album of the year in 1976 and it makes sense. I don’t think that Hotel California stands the rest of time the way Rumours does. I did save Try and Love Again though because it’s hitting all those sweet nostalgic spots for me. It sounds more like the country rock of their last album, One of These Nights. I guess that chalks it up for me- their rock n roll efforts don’t stand up to their peers of the time, but they do country rock soooo well and that’s what I show up for when it comes to the Eagles. The Last Resort is a really good ending to this album! It’s about how we don’t take care of our big beautiful planet. The strings add a lot of grandiosity. Again, super cinematic. If I had been drinking wine I probably would have started crying. It’s crazy to think people were talking about saving our environment in 1976 and we’re still not doing enough about it 45 years later. All in all, I always appreciate concept albums and this one was a good one. It felt somewhat like a goodbye to the 60s and 70s. The opening is strong, the track list is in the right order, and it ends on a beautiful bittersweet note. Well crafted and I would probably reach for it more if I had more of an emotional connection to it.

Amazing what adding a member can do. Way more rock than previous efforts, but still pretty ballad heavy. Gorgeous harmonies, as always. Last track ("The Last Resort") could have been left off the record; it's a little preachy. Favorite tracks: "Hotel California", "Wasted Time", "Try and Love Again"

Pre Listen: Another album I'm familiar with, man September has been the month that just keeps on giving for this project. It's all downhill from here. I'm familiar with the song that shares the name of the album of course, but I don't recall which other Eagles songs are on here. It's been a while. Notable Tracks: Hotel California - Classic rockin banger right here. I've heard this song so many times, yet it still has yet to grow stale, unlike other songs of similar nature. Such a lovely place. Life in the Fast Lane - Another classic rock hit. I like this song, but not nearly as much as the one mentioned above. It's good. The Last Resort - I almost fell asleep listening to this song, which isn't good, because I was driving. Least favorite track, awful was to end an album. Post Listen: To be blunt, this album would've been a 2 if it weren't for the two classics I mentioned above on it. No wonder the two hits are all I recalled on here, everything else is so painfully bland and boring. The track length I think is what really sunk my opinion here, every single unmentioned song goes on for a great deal longer than it has any right to. The A side too is so much stronger than the B side, it's crazy. Another one of those albums where from a foundational perspective, the music is all done well enough, but it's lacking in so much substance. Gonna take a nap now thanks to this snoozefest. Hotel California carries this thing to a 3/5
Listened previously. Expectations: Mid - Verdict: Good - Unlike The Dude, I don't hate the f**kin' Eagles man! I do however much prefer their earlier work. The first greatest hits album is a huge seller for very good reason, but this I feel is a bit overrated. The title track is obviously iconic and is a great song. The rest I just find falls a bit flat. Life In The Fast Lane is an exception, as I think that's a really good track. Victim Of Love is pretty rocking and New Kid In Town is also pretty good but overall this is just a good, solid album.
I'd love to give this album a fair score, but because Henley is a copyright jerk (on top of being a creep) this album is mostly unavailable on streaming services. And trying to find a complete version online was more work than I was willing to do. So for now I'll give it a 3 star rating and say this: the title track (one of the only songs available) is pretty good.

I don't love the Eagles, but I prefer Joe Walsh Eagles vs not Joe Walsh Eagles. And I like James Gang Joe Walsh over Eagles Joe Walsh. I did see him in concert once, co-headliner with Bob Seger. The crowd was long-haired, rode hard, and cannabis-infused.

The Eagles are… well the Eagles and if you like country rock of the 70s, then you are probably a big fan. Seems with the Eagles, people either love them or hate them and have pretty strong feelings for why. I on the other hand, feel they were a talented band and put out many hits that are well known and can be heard almost daily somewhere around this earth, but I don't put them up there as one of the greatest ever. I think most of their albums have some hits but are not loaded with all hits. This album to me is an easy enough listen and definitely has some good songs while others are just average. Album get a solid 3 from me as I don't feel it is good enough overall for a 4.
First half is iconic though
It’s the Eagles. There are a couple of songs that are well known by me. Hotel California is a bit overplayed and Life in the Fast Lane. Both are good songs but I think the rest of the album is kind of there. I’m not saying it’s bad it’s just not for me. They can all play very well and they do it very well on the album but most of the easy going music is just that. The country rock that is just kind of there. It worked for them and they sold millions.
3. Apart from Hotel California, nothing really stands out which is very unfortunate.

By my count this record has at least four monster, enduring hits. I only really like one of them, “Life in the Fast Lane” for obvious degenerate reasons. The namesake track “Hotel California”, a true epic by any measure, suffers from ubiquity over fifty long years (although I was tickled - and dubious - to happen upon the “actual” Hotel California while visiting Todos Santos, Baja California, Mexico.) The Eagles are fairly middle-of-the-road, the rock veers soft on a lot of this album, fitting a mellow California vibe. They do what they do well. It’s a high 3 for me.

Альбом, безусловно, важная веха в истории американской музыки, и под определенное настроение он заходит. Определенно не мой go-to альбом. Die Leadgitarre, die die Liedzeilen witzig kommentiert, eine Geschichte die erzählt wird und dabei viele ikonische Textzeilen produziert, die auch in anderem Zusammenhang als Zitate funktionieren. Ein 6,5 min Lied das nur ca. eine halbe Minute zu lang ist. So beginnt es also. Und dann weiter? Es folgt sehr viel zu süßer Pop, ein Hard-Rock-Standart, eine Proto-Power-Pop-Ballade mit Streichern (die Brian Adams zu oft gehört hat), ein bluesartiger Stampfer, etwas schmalziges mit Backgroundchoruuuhs, ein weiteres Lied das noch da war und schließlich eine pianolastige Ballade die irgendwas über die Besiedelung/Eroberung der USA erzählt, bisschen kulturkritisch, bisschen feiernd, bisschen religionskritisch. Keines dieser Lieder hat nur annähernd lyrisch oder musikalisch die Inspiration vom Opener. Ebenso ist nichts davon ist richtig schlecht, sondern eben Standart.
Startet stark und lässt stark nach. Hits sind halt Hits, filler sind filler.

Life in the Fast Lane is OK, but never really moved me. Wasted Time is whiny junk. The Last Resort seems like a lame redux of Hotel California with lyrics and music. 3/5 based on title track alone, but otherwise would be a 2.

Second and final Eagles. I was grasping for the reason as to why I was familiar with these guys in my review of their self-titled album, and now that reason is staring me right in the face. Hotel California is a good song, and I'm hoping that the rest of this album will be of a similar quality. I wasn't looking when I typed the name of this album into YouTube Music and entered "jpte; ca;ofprmoa\" by mistake, yet YouTube was somehow able to bring up the correct result. Ain't modern technology just wonderful? Anyways, eh. This kind of Americana rock isn't really my thing, though I can admit it's competent in the case of this album. The bass is particularly strong. It has a pleasant, dulcet sound which carries many of these songs to satisfying highlights and conclusions. The same goes for the bluesy organs, warm acoustic guitars and ballady pianos. I am surprised by how stark the contrast between the bleak title track and free spirited remainder of this album is, though I can hardly complain. The music of this album is arranged, performed and mastered very well. All in all, this was an adept outing, though it's just too mainstream for me. I know, I know. Eyerolling, hippie-dippie boolshite comment and all, but there's nothing in here that strikes an emotional chord or does anything particularly unique or interesting, which are all things that I look for when assessing an album. Still, I'm open to giving this a second chance somewhere down the line. It's accessible and good for every occasion. For the time being, however, I'll just give this album a mildly outstretched thumbs-uppy and move on to my next record. There's the song of the hour and the namesake of the album. It's good! Great lyrics, free-flowing vocals and the desperado atmosphere lingering in the background is pretty sweet, too. Truth be told, that's about all there is to this album for me. It sticks to its guns and pulls them off well, though I admittedly grew tired of hearing the song as it went on. Still, it's a good listen. I've heard "Life in the Fast Lane" before, too. Yet another song that my Dad used to play in his car. Still, it's a'ight. Good chorus, and I like the rockem, sockem, cockem atmosphere that is conveyed through the rough guitars. Like Hotel California, the song drags on for a little longer than it's welcome, though on the whole I thought it was a decent listen. Book time. "...Hotel California depicts the emotional burnout of the West Coast scene after peace and love hardened into cynical hedonism." The album sold more than 16 million copies. It "...explores the underbelly of success, the darker side of paradise." The entry closes out by saying that "...West Coast country-rock reached a refinement in Hotel California never equaled again." I don't know why I'm checking the book entry for this album, truth be told. Two list albums seems about right for Eagles and I know that this is one of Eagles' hallmark releases. Big thumbs-uppy from me. I cosign this inclusion.

ah starting off with the song that scared me as a kid. very silly, but still brings an eeriness to my body when I hear it. I'm also exhausted today so that will for sure change my listening ability. with how ubiquitous classic rock is, I'm used to this genre being "background music" rather than something I've explicitly chosen and therefore am struggling to listen with intention. And throughout listening today I continued not being able to hear songs beyond it being background music. The only songs that stood out happened to be the singles.

It was pretty chill and nostalgic. Yesterday i found this album vinyl at my dads. But i feel like this albums stays in the time a bit, so it's not for me right know. But driving in a middle of nowhere with this would be great.
Don't know the politics, but it seems people are really offended by The Eagles for some reason. From my perspective, this just extremely safe dad-rock. Cursory Googling suggests it's just popular to hate on them because of The Big Lebowski. There's some decent musical performances, the vocals are solid. Didn't really take in the lyrics, so can't comment on them. Not sure there's anything groundbreaking to speak of, but there wasn't a song I disliked (though it's so safe, it seems like that's the point). Probably not an album I'm going to listen to again, but I'd happily listen to any track from it in isolation. High 3.

Repeated listening made you softer than the creamsicle held by Ru Paul while watching a wet t-shirt contest at a Señor Frog’s in the middle of summer. Formulaic, soulless, predictable dad rock.

So funny I listened to part of that literally yesterday. I really liked the first song, because it tells a story in a very narrative way, but other than nothing stood out. Not like in a “nothing was super good” (some were pretty nice) way but literally. For me everything sounded a bit too mellow and too similar.
Something something Big Lebowski having a rough night and hating the Eagles. I actually went into this expecting to really dislike it (nothing to do with the movie, everything to do with overplay) but the songs are actually quite well-written despite how...self-important(?) the more serious songs are. This album works best when it's light and easy-going, like on "Life in the Fast Lane," the other monster single from this LP after the title track. I actually felt I had to skip the title track opener to get an authentic feel for this album and not to dampen my expectations, and I think it actually helped my assessment of this album. Sonically, this is as commercial as rock gets in this era, but for a soft rock album, it does actually hit hard in some places. Most of these songs have an actual pulse, which so much of the mushy, cloudy-soft shlock of this era didn't have (there are a couple of ballads guilty of this even on this album...) A pretty enjoyable album if you want something conventional, but I feel it's included here for its massive commercial reach rather than for anything innovative. Plenty of bands did the country-tinged rock with a soft side thing in this era, but it's hard to justify any of those contemporary groups when you have a band that at one point had the literal best-selling album in the world. Actually, I've always found it funny that the best-selling US band is called Eagles, because of course they would be! 353/1001 Eagles - Hotel California Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❓ One of those albums that my parents would put on repeat, so know this fairly well. It's middle of the road rock, which is fine. Not going to complain if it's put on, equally won't be itching to put it on out of choice either.
A mixed bag this. The title track is overplayed but admittedly brilliant. The Last Resort is one of my favourite tracks of all time. Also some dross on here. A couple of tracks sounds like they’re straight off a musical soundtrack. Can only give a 3 for the whole thing.
The most classic rock a rock album can be, right down the middle totally inoffensive with 2 big songs and that’s about it. It was easy to listen to and has one of the greatest songs of all time casually on it but besides that it’s really nothing to write home about. The best way I can explain this album is by using somebody that I used to know as an example. It was a massive hit single and many people bought the album and realised that Gotye was an indie rock guy and it was completely different to what they expected. I feel that is exactly what happened with this people heard hotel California and expected the album to be more like that and got a country/pop rock album.

Wasted time is amazing, also the reprise, this is beautiful! Wow the strings, wasn't expecting this. Straight back into classic rock. Liked the Album, don't love, a very famous Album but not my style xx
Some good songs but overall not my favorite Eagles album or songs.
It's Hotel California, and a bunch of extremely average songs. Hotel California (the song) is an excellent moody and almost proggy song that is often regarded as one of the best rock songs ever, and as overplayed as it is I do kinda have to agree. The rest of the album though has the band explore a bunch of other genres including ballads and pseudo-raunchy blues rock that doesn't rise above fine.
"Hotel California" is one of the greatest songs of all time, but other than that it really has not much more to offer rather than basic classic rock songs and two other good songs ("Life in the Fast Lane" and "Try and Love Again")

The Eagles, like Fleetwood Mac and a few others, are among those bands whose success I’ve never really understood. This is probably their most famous album, and one of the biggest-selling records ever. It’s not unpleasant to listen to, but I just can’t grasp why it became such a phenomenon. Their boogie and folk-rock sound feels pretty tame compared to other bands doing similar things. Nothing here really grabs me or sticks with me… Everything is pretty and well played, but nothing really bites.
K, ended up liking a little more than I expected, even made me get up in my feels once or twice.
Love the big hits, the rest is a bit vanilla

Eh, just not an eagles fan. Feels like rock with the rough edges sounded off to appeal to the most people.
