Reviews (page 8 of 14)

Hotel California still very good song. Rest of album listenable

Really enjoyed the guitar, bass, and vocals

Title track is a masterpiece, and the greatest thing this band of white penny-pinching douchebags ever did. I've got a soft spot for Wasted Time too. Rest of the album is immaculately performed, with everything in the right place. But with 0% recklessness, the vital ingredient for a rock band.

It's an album that's so much in my general consciousness that I think I can almost recreate it playing spoons and tapping my feet

Schon gut!

A classic

Damn good album. Solid from cover to cover. I give it a 4 but I sure as hell wont give it higher than that; out of sheer principle and me fighting my conversion into my father.

Singles are fantastic. Some great tunes but others on the album are just ok.

Fun, classic, a little uniform.

I really enjoyed this album. It was very pleasant. I would pick it up if I saw it at my record store.

Enjoyed it. Lots of good songs! 7/10

Classic Eagles, what a good album, love the title track, This is more west Coast Rock than earlier Eagles Country Rock. (Possibly Joe Walsh's Influence?) Life in the Fast Lane, was apparently influenced by a conversation between Glen Frey and a Drug Dealer during a highspeed car ride! Liked the more rockier sound when this came out and Hotel California has to be an all time classic single.

Well, they’re right about the formula, but it does fade with repeated exposure

Better than I remembered…

Great album! Lots of hit songs

Le falta más new kid in in town y le sobran wasted time y compañía.

First 3 songs have been embedded in my soul since I was a kid. Rest were mostly a pleasant surprise, even if a couple might have been a tad long. 7/10

Hotel California, The Eagles (1976). Listened on 9/16/21, during/after a shower, and again while rating. “Hotel California” the song suffers from being overplayed on classic rock stations, but it’s a good song with good guitar and of course a Steely Dan reference (“stab it with their steely knives”). “New Kid in Town” is almost too slow and almost too country for me, but I’m glad I gave it the time of day. “Life in the Fast Lane” always seemed like a later song to me, probably because I was picturing 1980s yuppies in that car. “Wasted Time” has some Elton John-style vibes at some points, but it doesn’t really land for me. I’m referring to the first “Wasted Time” on the tracklist, as there is a second with an apparently identical title that is more just a symphonic interlude. “Victim of Love” is fine. I’m glad I listened to the album a second time, because I had kind of zoned out during the penultimate two songs and figured I didn’t like them. It was more that they didn’t grab me, but I liked both more on second listen, “Pretty Maids All in a Row” a bit more than “Try and Love Again”. The final song, appropriately “The Last Resort”, is my favorite. I still remember my 11th grade history teacher playing it for us, complete with printed lyric sheet, and highlighting how it corresponded with Manifest Destiny. “She came from Providence,” he quoted, making the analogy that proponents saw it as fate-given, God-given, but, boom, the line is immediately followed by “the one IN RHODE ISLAND” he emphasized: it’s just people coming from the East Coast. Standout lyric (from The Last Resort): We satisfy our endless needs/And justify our bloody deeds/In the name of destiny/And in the name of God Hotel California (1.5) New Kid in Town (1) Life in the Fast Lane (1.5) Wasted Time (0.5) Wasted Time (0) Victim of Love (1) Pretty Maids All in a Row (0.5) Try and Love Again (0) The Last Resort (2)

Really well written !

I like a lot more than half of the album, therefore 4/5

Excellent album, though not sure it should be regarded as one of the all time classics

You know I love the Eagles. This is a great album. I’ve got nothing more to say.

Very hard to decide the rating here. No doubting that there are some 5 star tracks (wasted time, new kid in town, pretty maids) but for some reason the album doesnt blend into a 5 star experience for me and I'm not sure why.

50% absolute classics, 50% slightly above average middle-of-the-road rock.

Was pretty familiar with this album before this generator, and my opinion hasn't changed all that much. Title track never gets old, I still love Life in the Fast Lane even if it is a little corny, Wasted Time is good even if a little too singsongy. It probably is a little overrated and it feels too long, enough to the point that the concept album appeal loses me, but it's still a cohesive and fun listen. Enjoyed seeing all the global reviews reference that Big Lebowski quote about the Eagles Already Saved: Hotel California; Life in the Fast Lane; Wasted Time Saved After Listening: New Kid in Town, Victim of Love*, The Last Resort

This album gets 4 starts solely because of hotel California. Life in the fast lane is also a classic but None of the other songs on the album were of the same caliber. Very strange but glad this made it to the list

Liked Try and Love Again.

Very solid classic rock. The title track will always be a welcome listen for me. The rest of the tracks shine as well although I could do without a ballad like wasted time

Classic album

It was great the first half of the album, but become less engaging in the second half. It is still a nice album to listen to however. Stripped down instrumentals and vocals are a great sound.

One of the all time classic rock greats.

Classic rock tone, I like it

There is a group of people that do not like The Eagles. I am not part of that group. All of the hits are on Side A. Still a solid album.

very good

So far I actually rather enjoy this album. Though I don't really like the actual song Hotel California because I hear it all the time and it has become a bit repetetive. I like the album, and some of the songs are rather neat. I like the variety.

I love this album, Reminds me of driving through the Dales from our caravan in Ingleton at dusk with the windows open, playing at full blast

Para disfrutar tranquilo

One of the classics

Strong start. Super 70s sounding

Enjoyable

This album exceeded my expectations, I thought previously that Eagles had only a few hits but this album is full of tunes. I especially liked New Kid in Town, Try and Love Again and obvs Life in the Fast Land and Hotel Califonia.

Good classic

Disco lindo; perde 1 ponto pq é lento demais. Melhores: Hotel California e Wasted Time

Yes yes, very versatile album for 1976 and named after one of the greatest rock songs of all time and that song actually features as the first track on this album which is a great coincidence.

not the classic its made out to be but obviously a few timeless tracks. 4.

very good songs with epic guitar and great vocals. cant go wrong with hotel california

Muito bom! É um resumo sonoro dos anos 1970

The Eagles start these little reviews. Which is quite apt, really, as one of my earliest memories of being in a record shop is picking up an Eagles CD (not knowing who they were) and trying to convince my mum to buy me it. She didn't. Anyhow, I know a fair few songs from this album - who doesn't? - but somewhat surprisingly have never listen to the thing as a whole. It reminds me a little of get-togethers my parents would have with their friends around our house when I was little. A seven or eight year old me would sit on the stairs in my pyjamas, hoping they'd let me down and have a piece of cake, and some of these Eagles records would be part of a compilation that played, drowned out by the chatter. Historical hangovers aside, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it on a run through the woods. This ain't my typical cup of tea music wise if I'm honest, but you can't doubt the ability and talent on offer and I can admire that. Hotel California might be a little overplayed but wow, it is still some record.

Now this is what I call Dad™️ Music. Good stuff, but there is some self-loathing required to like it.

Not a top 10 for me, but a great album regrdless.

eagles not my fave, but some classics

On of those albums where I hear songs and go “oh I know this but didn’t know it was the Eagles”

What a surprising delight this was. A slight disappointment there was 'literally millions of bangers' on this album, as I was promised by *Benji*. The album had 9 songs on. But I am not disappointed

Fucking classic. What is there to say.

this is a great one

I was only really familiar with the more mellow of their songs, so I didn't realize they used so much electric guitar. Also, they definitely have an 80s sound, though this is a 70s album.

It was like a whole album of Hotel California. Work is busy so can't say much, but 4/5 would listen again

Some great songs, short album

Mellow album. Couple of classic songs

A ridiculously good album and anyone who says otherwise is an unreasonable hater.

Classic...

Very good album from The Eagles with the iconic song 'Hotel California' and some more hits. I like listening to The Eagles songs.

absolute bangers for boomers

liked it ..also .. hotel california

... california

Meme song aside, very good

A stone cold classic

Альбом для меня "вытягивают" 3 песни: Hotel California и Victim of Love - классика, и неожиданное открытие - Life in the Fast Lane

Okay so obviously I’m familiar with the hits on this one... Hotel California, New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane.... all a little corny imo. Hotel California has some undeniably delicious riffs in it but Life in the Fast Lane is just the worst. I never realized how much of a concept album it was until actually listening to the whole thing front to back. There’s definitely a story being told here. I can imagine when this came out everyone lost their minds because it’s a bit cinematic. Victim of Love is kinda sexy too. This album lost to Rumours for album of the year in 1976 and it makes sense. I don’t think that Hotel California stands the rest of time the way Rumours does. I did save Try and Love Again though because it’s hitting all those sweet nostalgic spots for me. It sounds more like the country rock of their last album, One of These Nights. I guess that chalks it up for me- their rock n roll efforts don’t stand up to their peers of the time, but they do country rock soooo well and that’s what I show up for when it comes to the Eagles. The Last Resort is a really good ending to this album! It’s about how we don’t take care of our big beautiful planet. The strings add a lot of grandiosity. Again, super cinematic. If I had been drinking wine I probably would have started crying. It’s crazy to think people were talking about saving our environment in 1976 and we’re still not doing enough about it 45 years later. All in all, I always appreciate concept albums and this one was a good one. It felt somewhat like a goodbye to the 60s and 70s. The opening is strong, the track list is in the right order, and it ends on a beautiful bittersweet note. Well crafted and I would probably reach for it more if I had more of an emotional connection to it.

First track is killer of course. Great Album!

Two stars alone are due to the song "hotel california"

It is a very chilling album

good but OVERPLAYED

Im actually not a huge fan of the pre-Walsh era of the eagles but they definitely take it up a notch with him here

Amazing what adding a member can do. Way more rock than previous efforts, but still pretty ballad heavy. Gorgeous harmonies, as always. Last track ("The Last Resort") could have been left off the record; it's a little preachy. Favorite tracks: "Hotel California", "Wasted Time", "Try and Love Again"

Something something Big Lebowski having a rough night and hating the Eagles. I actually went into this expecting to really dislike it (nothing to do with the movie, everything to do with overplay) but the songs are actually quite well-written despite how...self-important(?) the more serious songs are. This album works best when it's light and easy-going, like on "Life in the Fast Lane," the other monster single from this LP after the title track. I actually felt I had to skip the title track opener to get an authentic feel for this album and not to dampen my expectations, and I think it actually helped my assessment of this album. Sonically, this is as commercial as rock gets in this era, but for a soft rock album, it does actually hit hard in some places. Most of these songs have an actual pulse, which so much of the mushy, cloudy-soft shlock of this era didn't have (there are a couple of ballads guilty of this even on this album...) A pretty enjoyable album if you want something conventional, but I feel it's included here for its massive commercial reach rather than for anything innovative. Plenty of bands did the country-tinged rock with a soft side thing in this era, but it's hard to justify any of those contemporary groups when you have a band that at one point had the literal best-selling album in the world. Actually, I've always found it funny that the best-selling US band is called Eagles, because of course they would be! If someone wrote a movie about a fictional USA, they'd accuse that plot point of being too on the nose. Key Tracks (besides the title:) Life in the Fast Lane, Victim of Love, The Last Resort

just fine, half of the album is a bit too bland for it to be great, and the hits are only fairly good other than the title track which I really like

Hotel California is a great track. The rest of the album is kinda boring. I'm with the dude on this one.

I've always been indifferent about The Eagles, and listening to the entirety of Hotel California hasn't seemed to change that. I am a fan of the title track, but otherwise, this album is just "meh" for me.

Tbh, I really didn’t listen to this but the first track was a suprise lol. Didn’t know that was the sample to American Wedding by Frank ocean

A little rough coming right out of the gate with Hotel California at the start of the album, since the rest of it sort of fell to the wayside after that hit. I wouldn't say I fucking hate the Eagles, or that I love them. I'm more... fucking impartial to them.

353/1001 Eagles - Hotel California Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❓ One of those albums that my parents would put on repeat, so know this fairly well. It's middle of the road rock, which is fine. Not going to complain if it's put on, equally won't be itching to put it on out of choice either.

The most classic rock a rock album can be, right down the middle totally inoffensive with 2 big songs and that’s about it. It was easy to listen to and has one of the greatest songs of all time casually on it but besides that it’s really nothing to write home about. The best way I can explain this album is by using somebody that I used to know as an example. It was a massive hit single and many people bought the album and realised that Gotye was an indie rock guy and it was completely different to what they expected. I feel that is exactly what happened with this people heard hotel California and expected the album to be more like that and got a country/pop rock album.

Lebowski

The Eagles are one of the most overrated groups ever. Represented the decadence of the 70s. Hotel California is an okay album Hotel California is a good song. So is New Kid in town. Lots of filler on the album . Big in the 70s. However, not much interest in them now except for aging baby boomers. Average album. Three stars

- the wasted time reprise absolutely changed me - the transition between wasted time and then the reprise song of it was stunning - i think my favorite ones could be new kid in town, wasted time and the last resort - did i mention wasted time reprise because yeah

7.5/10 I like the way that the rock aspect of the album works and it feels very original. Main complaint is the cohesivity of the album. Kind of switches from rock to country and is offsetting. Overall good album not great

First 3 songs are all enjoyable and I can see why it's a huge seller, but then it falls off a cliff with mushy wank.

Probably the most Boomer/Dad Rock music you will ever hear.

Wasted time is amazing, also the reprise, this is beautiful! Wow the strings, wasn't expecting this. Straight back into classic rock. Liked the Album, don't love, a very famous Album but not my style xx

Some good songs but overall not my favorite Eagles album or songs.

It's Hotel California, and a bunch of extremely average songs. Hotel California (the song) is an excellent moody and almost proggy song that is often regarded as one of the best rock songs ever, and as overplayed as it is I do kinda have to agree. The rest of the album though has the band explore a bunch of other genres including ballads and pseudo-raunchy blues rock that doesn't rise above fine.

"Hotel California" is one of the greatest songs of all time, but other than that it really has not much more to offer rather than basic classic rock songs and two other good songs ("Life in the Fast Lane" and "Try and Love Again")

Opens with a classic but becomes a bit monotonous and inoffensive after this

Hotel California is a great song. From there, it's banal, sappy, stupid af. 3 "mostly because Hotel California is a great song" stars.

The Eagles, like Fleetwood Mac and a few others, are among those bands whose success I’ve never really understood. This is probably their most famous album, and one of the biggest-selling records ever. It’s not unpleasant to listen to, but I just can’t grasp why it became such a phenomenon. Their boogie and folk-rock sound feels pretty tame compared to other bands doing similar things. Nothing here really grabs me or sticks with me… Everything is pretty and well played, but nothing really bites.

K, ended up liking a little more than I expected, even made me get up in my feels once or twice.

Love the big hits, the rest is a bit vanilla

2026.06.25.

Enjoyable but not incredible. 3/5

not my vibe idk why xx but good x. bit eltony at point. 3/5? they sound bit similar to me. bit dire straitsy but less riffy xx

Good summer album

It was relaxing. I liked when it had the violins part in it idk the actual name of the piece tho

Eh, just not an eagles fan. Feels like rock with the rough edges sounded off to appeal to the most people.

you can check out but you can never leave

some awesome songs but some others that were kinda eh for me.

Man of a certain age rock music

Very sleepy album but not in a bad way

Wasted Time (Reprise) is pretty. Everything else is fine.

muy tranquilo

I will give them credit, they have great vocals and create beautiful harmonies. Their songwriting is good and there are 3 songs I really like but overall I am not a fan of this album. It's too country and slow, really has a depressing feel to it for my liking.

I know "Hotel California" and its title track are widely beloved, but apart from the title track, there's not a lot to dig into. None of the tracks on the album is as iconic or good as "Hotel California". "The Last Resort" comes close compared to the others, though. So "Hotel California" is a pair of bookends with filler in between. This album left me disappointed, especially one with an amazing title track. 3 stars for "Hotel California".

Okay, but Hotel California has turned me off of Eagles forever. 3.5

Few great tracks, R&B is a tad strange

A bit disappointed by this album because I loveeee Hotel California (The song). An amazing track surrounded by okay, but forgettable rock songs. TOP songs: Hotel California, Try and Love Again, Victim of Love

just not my favorite, not a big rock ballad person

I know this album has to be on here, but holy shit there’s a lot of boomer dad rock on this list. Anyway it’s the eagles and it sounds exactly like you think it might

ughhhhh hotel california (the song) is sooo good but the rest fell a little flat for me unfortunately :/

Its fine... and there are some good songs. But I get why the dude thought they were insufferable.

Overrated

Tältä levyltä oli tuttuja ne hitit. Ihan kelpo soittoa ja laulantaa.

album #60 personally i would not stay at the hotel california. good tune though. ꩜ album rating: ★★★☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,029 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 31 ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 12 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 48

the title track whips so much ass, i'm so tired of it and yet will never get tired of it, just evergreen. the lyrics, the solo, the themes and such. makes most of the rest of the album feel mid by comparison. i also liked Victim of Love a lot. i think one or two bangers would bring the score up but as it is the one song does just hard carry, if you take out Hotel California you're taking out the heart and soul and bones of the entire record and just leaving some pretty good rock n roll. strong 3

3.5 cause of hotel California?

we had American Pie recently and this is a very similar proposition - canonical banger of staggering scope and ambition, followed by some very mid tunes.

I have thus far and will continue to make fun of how often this list includes British albums that don't belong anywhere near a list of essential albums, but lest you think I am simply biased towards American albums or against British albums, here is some proof I am not. The Eagles are the best selling American band of all time and, if we had not already done enough things to indict us before the rest of the world, this would be a devastating coup de grace to the idea of American taste. Is this a bad album? No, it's largely inoffensive soft rock. But it is so soft and so inoffensive. "Pretty Maids All In a Row" is so slow and boring that the existence of an electric guitar on the next track, which is also very slow, is downright thrilling. Apparently when Joe Walsh was joining the Eagles they were worried that he was "too wild" for the band. They did not need to worry. Other people have taken the Eagles to task for being a bunch of Macho D-bags, for being the favorite band of some of worst, most annoying people on earth. I won't bother with all that. Sticking with the music, there's good stuff here. You don't need me to tell that "Hotel California" is a good song, you've probably heard "Life in the fast lane" on Walmart loud speakers. "Try and Love Again" also manages to be fun. But when the songs aren't hitting everything drags to a halt in a way that really hasn't held up.

Welp... It's the Eagles. The soft stuff is way too soft it's melting on the brown carpet. The timeless hits are as good as always though. No real surprises here.

Hotel California is so iconic that I wasn't expecting much else out of the album. I was expecting one-hit-wonser vibes, but the project is pretty well produced from start to finish. It's very general rock, easy to get along with, which for me means a little on the stale side. I'd still be happy to have this in my collection for on occasional spin, but I don't think I'll be streaming it too frequently. 3.4/5

Previously known. It's a vibe.

Generally not really my cup of tea but I see the appeal for the white dudes try and love again was a nice surprise though

Outside the big hits there’s not much here for me, a bit too safe and middle of road but not unlistenable

6/10 It's pretty alright, the guitar solo on the title track is pretty nice and I enjoyed Life in the Fast Lane, but the rest just goes at a steady pace (which is not a bad thing).

I've always gotten a very melancholy feel from the song Hotel California, and the album sort of delivers the same vibe. I liked it, but I'm not sure I could listen to it all the time.

It’s okay. Nice enough. But quite slow and samey.

Bland and inoffensive.

Inescapable

Slightly underwhelming

For the era it’s great. After time it becomes grating and mediocre. It’s decent, but has been extremely overrated through the years - much like the band itself.

I always hated the title track because it was SO overplayed in the 90's on 'classic rock' stations. It might still be. But that kept me away from this album as a whole ever since. New Kid in Town, Life in the Fast Lane, and Victim of Love are all fine. Just fine. But I was pretty bored with the rest of the album. Feels a little blasphemous to say that, but that's where I'm at.

Men inte ens jag kan värja mig mot Hotel California, New Kid in town och Life in the fast lane. Men...

Title track is a masterpiece, but most of the album is pretty blah.

no quejas, no sugerencias, la orquesta me encantó

It's a good album but obviously never tops Hotel California

I can see why this would be controversial. Not hard to listen to but remarkably generic

Good sad songs

The title track is a classic, still fine to listen to, I particularly like the guitar work. Other songs, well they're inoffensive but (no offense to anyone who reveres this album) I could do without them. For me, this album is Okay, 6/10.

Send these guys back to where they came from (America)

Great album

Second and final Eagles album in this collection and my thoughts on it are similar to the first one I got, its just fine. The title track is an all timer and this was the first time I realized that "Life in the Fast Lane" was an Eagles song. Outside of that though, I thought the rest of the tracks were just fine. 3/5

Classic, just not something I'd seek out.

Me ha gustado bastante

Another album hamstrung by the fact that the title track is so stupendously good, the rest pales in comparison. The rest was ok.

Didn’t make it all the way though. Enjoyed the hits but the album tracks didnt hold my interest

Never was on board the Eagles hate train even though Henley and Frey have done themselves no favors, but I've never thought of them as an album band. And my dad, a huge Eagles fan, even thought Hotel California (the song) was overplayed. I agree! But it's still easy to see why it was such a huge hit. Anyway, the Eagles are fine even though they have no edge and the boomer radio rock culture they embody has curdled into something that, maybe, the Eagles get unfairly/overly blamed for.

I'll start this by saying that in general I can't stand The Eagles. But I've always liked the title track of this album, with its creepy theme and Spanish guitar. Still, while I like that song, I slogged through the rest of this album. OK, "Life in the Fast Lane" is fun, but I could easily have lived without hearing "New Kid in Town" or any of the rest of it again. I know I'll give the first Eagles album 2 stars, so I guess this one gets a 3 since I like a song or two on it.

Maybe I went into this album misremembering this album and I had too high expectations, but I was really let down by this album as a whole. Don’t get me wrong, I love Hotel California, the song, and I also really love life in the fast lane. But that’s sort of the problem for me, is I wanted this to be a rock album, and it’s BARELY a rock album. It’s mostly soft easy rock and it’s so boring and dry and just the stereotype for yacht rock. Just overall an underwhelming experience that just let me disappointed. Great singles though, for whatever that is worth.

good, but not amazing

I prefer their greatest hits

Not a type of rock i care too much about, but was quite surprised that it was not really as bad as I expected and actually quite pleasant to listen to. Wasted Time sounds like an Elton John song. I am not going to listen to it again, but it is better than a 3, so 3.5 Stars

Quite surprised how sad this one was. Had the grand stadium rock I was expecting but also plenty of sadder stuff which was interesting. Wasn't really a fan overall.

Almost a 4 but it gets a little too proggy for me at times.

Walsh’s guitar bumps this up a star.

it's ok. Chill but a bit boring.

Solid album, hadn't listened to much of the eagles before.

"Hotel California" is a masterpiece but unfortunately the rest of the songs can't keep up.

I recognize the hits and it’s clear the Eagles are talented but this was pretty damn boring.

Eagles are super cool and i was like "yeah awesome we've got THIS album today like this is why i started this list to listen to THESE albums" but like Eagles are just not my thing, cool stuff but yeah. reminds me of when i did an eagles comp in high school concert band LMAOOO.

cracks

Some great song on the front end, but the back end definitely dragged out a bit.

70's rock, hotel california and life in the fast lane are pretty good but everything is squarely mid

bellissimi testi anche se ho ascoltato mentre disegnato.. ho apprezzato molto victim for love, try and love again, e hotel california. sound che mi ricorda il country, ma comunque molto orecchiabile.

Some classics in here that I really enjoyed and some songs that I found less interesting. I liked some of the slower songs that I hadn't heard before, but some of them dragged a bit. There are songs in here that I'm always going to sing along to if I hear them, but I don't think I will relisten to the full album. Fav song: Hotel California Least fav: The Last Resort

I like it, Hotel California especially is iconic. But I don't understand what made it one of the best selling albums of all time, why did more people buy this than Rumours or any Beatles album?? Find the slow songs quite underwhelming. Favourite song: Hotel California Least: The Last Resort

Clásico álbum, melodic rock, but only one classic here

I think it’s maybe a little overhyped. it’s definitely good, but i think Eagles spanned too many genres. they should’ve stuck to a classic sound. i love Don Henley.

A classic album. I remember my mother used to listen to it. The guitar work is especially impressive, combining precision with a bluesy feel, though it can feel a bit slow at times. Life in the Fast Lane is my favorite track.

1. Hotel California 6 2. New Kid in Town 6 3. Life in the Fast Lane 7.2 4. Wasted Time 7.6 5. Wasted Time (Reprise) 5 6. Victim of Love 5.5 7, Pretty Maids All in a Row 5 8. Try and Love Again 6.8 9. The Last Resort 5

The bologna and american cheese on white bread of rock n roll

Strong start, downhill from there. Too many long songs back to back

Good tbf. Would give a 3.5 but 4 is too generous. Started off w a banger and finishes nicely, yacht rock ahh

Pretty good.

Good tunes, only knew the big single but other tracks are decent too.

I thought the album wouldn’t live up to Hotel California. I was right.

Top 5 most overrated band of all time - and they ain't 5. I cannot in good conscious give it less than a 3 on intangibles and hits alone. Sigh.

nice album.

Too american, too soft

My tracklist review didn’t get saved so basic thoughts: -Tale of two halves, first half is very solid and the back half starts to falter a bit. - definitely encapsulates a cultural moment in the 70s, showing the darker side of the newly established rock star status. - Best tracks: Hotel California, New Kid In Town, Life In The Fast Lane, Wasted Time, Try And Love Again -Worst track: The Last Resort

This is solidly ... fine. I am biased because I find Don Henley repulsive but I can still stomach the album enough to give it a 3.5

First, fuck the Eagles for leaving the most famous songs off some streaming platforms. Found a bootleg though. Some of the Eagles biggest hits are here, album is a classic for a reason. They're a huge band. The title song is still a powerful and enigmatic tune. New Kid in Town is always a song I have enjoyed. Life in the Fast Lane is ok. Wasted Time is painfully dull. The Last Resort is especially awful. Aside from the two openers, this album sorta sucks. But those two songs do a lot of heavy lifting. The Eagles are unexciting, but the production is excellent and clean. You can see why they are popular despite the lack of creativity, the execution is very high level.

Top Songs: Hotel California Wasted Time

Some of these songs had decent bass lines. Nothing that really grabbed my attention. I dropped a straight razor into my finger halfway through which was fun.

“Hotel California” is a 5/5 to me — overplayed, sure, whatever. “Life in the Fast Lane” feels too commercial-core to me at this point. The rest exists.

A grudging 3 because it's not entirely unenjoyable but the overall impression is an audio brochure for a west coast euthanasia centre

I HATE HOTEL CALIFORNIA!!! Idk why but I find it so grating and irritating. I hate their faux reggae delivery and rhythm too, it’s so corny to me. The rest of the music was fine, I didn’t really have such strong feelings about any of it. It’s pleasant enough background music because it’s like white noise—nothing noticeable enough about it to be either interesting or irritating.

Quite frustrating technical difficulties listening to this. I tried to check out, but I couldn't leave?

What I could listen to was good

Classic

This was perfectly decent. A bit samey past the title track. But damn, the people in the comments sure have opinions! 6/10 Pretty Good

obviously love hotel california and i used to love new kid in town in high school for some reason but it turns out those are the only good songs on the album.

Rock classic, dont have much else to say

I was 7 when this album came out and I thought the lyrics were amazing! Killing beasts? Cool ! 50 years later it just all sounds so cheesey. And I could be wrong, but I'm not.

I may be a Dad, but 60s Dad Rock is never going to be my thing. This is pretty good as it goes.

An iconic Album. But I don't know if I like because it good or because of just nostalgia. That is why this album gets a 3

Life in the Fast lane

It’s a classic, but it’s pretty plodding toward the end

its good but also really boring

VANILLA

Absolutely fine.

A nice soft rock album. Favorite track: 'New Kid in Town'.

It's a fine album, if a bit boring. Hotel California is a boomer staple but a pretty good song still. The 2 songs after that are pretty good too and after that it gets a bit boring. It's just kind of overplayed AOR stuff, hard to really hate on but not the type of music I'd pick out myself. Insert the dude quote here.

Pretty good. Better than eagles eagles but still a 3. 3.4 rounding down to 3. They’re just an overrated, mid band.

She got the Mercedes Benz “UGH”. Sequencing and flow sucks, but some good tracks. 1. The last resort 2. Try and love 3. Wasted time (reprise)

It was OK. Interlude was one of the best moments of the album. 57/100

If you ask anyone on the street to name songs from Hotel California, most likely the title track is the only one they’ll be able to name you. This is due to the fact that this song was overplayed to death on the radio at the time. For 1976, I don’t find this album to be adding anything special to the canon in musical history besides the title track. Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Joni Mitchell, Ramones just to name a few from 1976 had much better projects that made much more of an impact imo. The opening track Hotel California has a great melody and fantastic guitar solo. It’s a classic for a reason. However, I think it should have been released as a single as it is too good of a song and the rest of the record doesn’t live up to it. My thoughts on this project is that I can’t help but feel that this records popularity is only due to the opening track being played over and over into people’s psyche that has contributed to its popularity. It is lyrically lacklustre, riffs are not that memorable and artistic choices lack depth. The ballads are so lacklustre. They lack heart and soul. For example, why do we have a Wasted Time (Reprise)? Does it add anything to the album experience or to the song right before it? I’m not too sure one can say anything impactful about these choices. However, I will say that the album has a strong finish with its 2 last songs. Try And Love Again is a GEM. Probably my favourite cut on the album. The hook is very rewarding and the guitar riffs are tasteful and everything is such a vibe. The Last Resort is also really good. The slide guitar and overall production with the strings and piano and everything makes it very compelling. I wish the rest of the album followed suit. Overall, there are much better records of the time that I’d much rather spend time with than this one. Hotel California 85 New Kid In Town 30 Life In The Fast Lane 40 Wasted Time 20 Wasted Time (Reprise) 10 Victime Of Love 20 Pretty Maids All In a Row 20 Try and Love Again 95 The Last Resort 90 Rating 45/100

reminds me of being on the dock with my parents and their friends but doesn’t do anything for me beyond that tbqh

Eagles just seem to be a band that all you need is their Best Of album. This had two songs that I’m a fan of with HC and Life in the Fast Lane but the remaining songs come close to sucking.

Man, I hate how much I enjoyed this album. The title - even after having heard it a million times, still love the guitar work, the harmonies, the epic build. And "New Kid In Town" is a cool song with some great guitar work, as is "Life in the Fast Lane". The ballads can induce eye rolls, but overall great stuff from a band that a guy like me should hate. "The Last Resort" is an insufferable and pompous, overproduced closer, so I'll round down my 3.5

only one good songs and far too overplayed

I always wondered, do people that make unimaginative art enjoy it? Not the process of producing. Making art can be enjoyable no matter what the end product turns out to be. I mean do they think they made something of value? I wouldn’t blame someone like an AO3 user for the quality of their writing being subpar. That’s not the point. The process is the point. They do it for fun and share their passion with the others. But what about the people that make art professionally? I just can’t imagine making art without trying to invent something. Just copying the things you already experienced and barely putting any of your own input can’t be fun, right? Do they only do it for the money? But how do you even get into art if that’s your only incentive? Doesn’t every artist want to create something of their own? Or do they actually don’t think that they make something insanely derivative, and the result we see is them putting their all into it? That’s what the Eagles make me think about. Their music isn’t offensive or hard to listen to in any way. It’s just… nothing. I hear absolutely no artistry, no passion in it at all. It’s rock that sounds like… rock. You can listen and enjoy it a little, but it’s not something that’s gonna stay with you. A line from a random song of theirs isn’t going to randomly appear in your head at some point in the future for you to go, “Damn, that’s a nice songs, I gotta listen to it again” (I guess apart from Hotel California itself—that songs is pretty catchy and iconic for a reason). There are so many better options in music. But at the same time, I can’t definitively answer if what’s they’re making is just a simple cash grab, like I can with a lot of big pop artists and their armadas of writers and producers. What if they actually like this inoffensive, basic dad rock, so that’s what they make? I know I don't particularly care for it, but I'm obviously not the ultimate arbiter of what's good—nobody is.

Somewhat of a fan

hotel california is great...the rest? fine

The Eagles aren't bad but I'll forever have issue with them for their greatest hits being the fifth best selling album of all time, and this one the sixth. Hotel California is an interesting song. If you heard it for the first time today it would grab you. They're doing little wrong but this is not the sixth best album of all time. I know sales doesn't mean best, but like, more people bought this than the population of Canada. What?

My first album and it's one I have listened to countless times before. I'm pretty sure my parents owned this in the '70s and I owned it on CD in the '90s. I checked out but apparently I can never leave.

I listened to this this album a decent amount in middle school - being at the mercy of whatever cassettes my parents had lying around. Thing is, I'm no longer prepubescent. I have my own money to buy music and ... well, I ain't reaching for this, thx. Not to say it isn't a competently composed and well performed body of work. It's fine. Fun to sing along with but not much else. Other reviewers have called this album boring...and I can't refute that. If you have a mature pallet, "soft-rock" is bland as hell. It's not this album, it's the entire genre. Not really sure why this one is on this list except that it's popular. It gets a solid "meh" from me.

Listened to before. Good album with some bangers. Hotel California hits

Meh...

Easy listenin'

Dober dober

The type of music I would expect to hear at a beach bar. I’m not really phased by it one way or the other. It’s just kind of there.

That was pretty...I actually prefer the songs that aren't played on the radio all the time. New Kid in Town and Life in the Fast Lane I always change when they come on the radio. Hotel California (the song) will be a classic forever though.

👍🏻

Mein Favorit Gitarrensolo

Best Song: Hotel California I have a real conundrum going with this album. For one, I think the song Hotel California is a great song. On the other hand, Don Henley's voice is like tent spikes being hammered into my ears. Even when I was young, like 7 or 8, I remember hearing "Boys of Summer" and thinking I didn't like the sound of his voice. Nothing has changed there. But musically this is a really good album and Joe Walsh is cool. Hence, the conundrum I am in. Also, the second half the album isn't nearly as strong as the first half. I am giving this a 3/5 in spite of Henley, not because of him! If the whole album was just Hotel California the song, it would have gotten a 4.

Hotel California ist a banger the Rest is mid.

Fav- victim of love 3.5/5

Sadly the Big Lebowski joke has already been made. Anyways, hate is a strong word, but I don't care about the fucking Eagles, man.

it was good but not my style, i guess

Livsfarligt att börja så starkt. Man blir besviken direkt efter. Andra bangers: Life in the fast lane, Victim of love. Resten trök. Svag 3a

cool album, feels like it either is the blueprint for rock music of that time or it followed the pre existing blueprint. it's quality music but i doubt i will come back to it that much, feels like "just rock music" 6/10

Dad rock made album. Not bloody bad.

Fuck you man you don’t like my music get your own fucking cab!

decent

that's an interesting one i suppose it's some nostalgia emerging while listening to the record. It's nice. I even vibe with hotel california. Maybe it was just the right moment for it, but i liked it.

I hate the fucken eagles man (I don’t but the quote fits)

Like the title song, everything else is so... Dad. I am not old enough for this shit.

- Hotel California - Classic, great guitar solo, everyone knows this song. - New kid in town - Not what I expected honestly. Very chill. I honestly love it. Reminds me of a Frank Sinatra song oddly. - Life in the fast lane - Forgetable, not a fun listen. Decent guitar break - Wasted time - I liked it

Memories of high school for some tracks. Others I didn't remember at all -- those were a little too much easy listening for me.

This is obviously good. Hotel california is a classic, i found the patches of strings beautifully done and there was variety from strings up to some decent hard rock which surprised me. I cant say anything bad about this apart from i think music has moved on in better and more interesting ways. A top notch tike capsule, but the only people listening to this were around when it was first released.

Opening with Hotel California I was primed to rate it 4/5. From there it was all a little bit middle of the road dad rock

Great start, very average afterwards.

The highs are high, but there is a lot of plain stuff here

Not a big fan of this group. At least the two albums that have listened to. This is overall ok…background music. With the exception of the first and last track everything else is just ok.

Started out good. Enjoyed hearing Grandpa sing along.

A familiar branch from classic rock with a swanky twist and surprisingly compelling storytelling. Favorite song: Try and Love Again.

Probably one of the best album openers of all time with Hotel California. The rest of the album is mainly middle of the road soft/country rock that does very little for me. Inoffensive and easy to listen to, but just a bit boring to me. Life in the Fast Lane is a fun track though. 3/5 Mainly for Hotel California, but also because they are great musicians.

For me, the title track is really the main attraction here. It’s very well produced and a classic for a reason. But the rest of the album sort of fell apart and lost my attention. Could have been the long day at a competition. But I doubt I’ll make my way around for a second listen. I do have a core memory from folk fest one year. Where three groups at a workshop played a French reggae version of Hotel California and it was hilarious.

There's definitely a fair bit of filler. But, there's a few tracks I also really like

Meh... very sad that "Hotel California" is the only song of the album with that special energy, the rest is... okay, a bit sad

This was actually not too bad of an album. I don't believe I've ever heard the title track in full before, only really the chorus part, yet it all of it sounds so familiar; like I heard it in a previous life. But I suppose that's what happens when the radio is given free will to poison children's ears with Dad rock. "Life in the Fast Lane" is another song that is familiar to me, but I never knew they - The Eagles - sung it. Though I'm not too sure who I would've thought it was by, maybe Aerosmith or something like that. 6/5 for the opening melancholic section of Hotel California, and 3/5 for the entire album. Highlight Song/s: "Hotel California" and "Try and Love Again"
