Reviews (page 8 of 14)

Love this album since it came out. Probably haven’t played it all the way through for 20 years. Still holds up. Remaster is better in my opinion.

It's Metallica!

As good as it gets in this genre - excellent guitar work, meaningful songs. Of course it's on this list.

Lars Ulrich LOVES his cymbals, I can say that much. I would say I enjoyed the album overall. Some songs got tedious after a while, but maybe that's because I am not used to metal and have not listened to Metallica before (only some songs, but not on my own volition). I can see why this is one of the best-selling albums ever, very replayable and enjoyable, even for non-metal fans, such as myself.

An album I'm incredibly familiar with. It's not my favorite Metallica record nor is it their best record, but it's the record that put them (and metal as a genre) on the map. It's one of the most important records ever made and definitely one of the most influential records. I have to imagine a lot of people picked up guitars and drums after listening to the Black Album.

Enter Sandman.. I never recovered

Really consistent. Metallica lives up to its name, no fluff here. Not my favorite genre, but I respect their commitment to the sound.

Cmon now, one of their best albums. I can’t NOT hate Enter Sandman shit just gets me hyped. 3.8

This album has a place in every divorced dad collection (and the growing list of albums I heard through the wall of my brothers room) , and for good reason! Cant help but enjoy Enter Sandman, Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters.

Oh fuck yeah bud. Enter Sandman is a beast

I know that the hardliners think of this album as the beginning of the end for Metallica (for me it was Load). My brother was a metal head, so I had experience with their early albums before this one was on my radar. But this is what launched them into the mainstream - and if you were 10 or 11 in 1991 like was, mainstream Metallica was still pretty awesome. And Justice for All was probably their last great album. Not a ton of virtuosic solos here or cheesy speed metal. But if this was the first introduction to them, it would still melt your face off.

I'm not big fun of hard rock, but this group has really an incredible level and a lot of soft songs that to the aftermath

Throw back to college. I have seen Metallica 5 times. Songs still hold up. Although not my first choice genre. I have to be in a certain mindset

A tricky one to rate,... I loved the previous three albums, and when this came out it was a complete surprise, and took me a good few listens to get into. I had a chronological playthrough of their albums about 6 months ago and, not having heard it for a few years I appreciated it a lot more. And at least it's not Load...

More of the same old Metallica sound, lifted to the heights of metal greatness by Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters.

Amazing album

Very melodic, bass heavy album. Felt upbeat and energetic to me. 90s grunge feel. Dig it. Can listen from top to bottom.

First half was sick. Then I got a little fatigued with the constant drone. The singles definitely rip, but I am not a Metallica convert after that album.

hell yeah

Surprisingly nice to listen to.

Classic Metallica album from the early 1990s. Plenty of hits on this one. It was a bit of a departure from their previous work and controversial amongst Metallica fans at the time. A good listen, though.

Énergie indéniable. Travail sur la progression dramatique et le récit narratif. Plusieurs pièces puissantes et inoubliables

3rd Metallica album in 2 weeks, and they still kick ass. This one is not quite as good as Master of Puppets, and doesn't have the novelty of the S&M album, so I'm gonna put it at 4 stars.

Waaaay too bloated

Ein gutes Album, definitiv

Volltreffer.

Masterful crossover metal. Tight. A little samey

Not the biggest Metallica fan, but they have a number of songs I enjoy very much and this album contains a good number of those songs. Outside of maybe being overplayed, who doesn't just rock out to Enter Sandman? I think I crank anytime I hear on the radio. My personal favorite from these guys is song #2, Sad But True. The lyrics fit perfectly with his angry sing style. Best song off the album, imo. Several other songs I thought were very good include, The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam and Nothing Else Matters. Thought the album went on a little too long and could have cut off a couple songs at the end, but all in all a very good listen. Hard to believe this album is almost 25 years old, but still stands the test of time of some pretty good headbanging tunes. Am I a bigger fan after this album? Probably not, but some times I forget that Metallica can find that sweet spot when you need a banger and may have to compile a Metallica work out setlist. I'm going with a 4. It has 2 of my favorites by these guys. 4

Enjoyed that.

pretty damn good album, rock and shit. Beginning and ending are strong, middle sags a bit. Nice tone on guitars, James does his classic vocals. Significant 27/77 Liked 12/77 Added 3/77 maybe? YYmaybe

It's the black album, come on!

A metal classic

Enjoyed the album with the classic Enter Sandman on it.

This made the 12 year old in me so happy.

Previously on 1001 albums: >Didn't know I liked Metallica this much Turns out I didn't. Don't get me wrong, I still like the music, but it pales in comparison with live versions of these songs. It's especially evident in Sad But True, the performance just sounds lazier

Cat: I don’t know why this album in particular gets me fired up, but it does. Great guitar, drums, vocals, bass, everything. Lyrics are alright haha

Powerful songs - albeit, don’t know what any are about. But the music itself is moving.

4 stars but only because it would be rude to the genuine 5 star content

Very nostalgic for me

Jeg har altid været kontrær overfor den her men altså… der er sgu nogle meget fede numre på. Kan bare ikke så godt lide produktionen og balladerne er lidt corny. Jeg elsker James hetfields stemme så meget

Love it! Def one of the best metallica Albums! 4.5/5 Very good album to hit the gym or serve the military but on any other day i dont relly have the need to hit play on it. Replay Value is missing for me!

Really enjoyed this. Would be a great road trip album

So well produced, you can hear everything even through all the distortion. This is about as heavy as you can get while still having mainstream appeal. All the songs are almost the same tempo, so they all sorta serve the same purpose. My Friend of Misery has an amazing guitar solo that I never see talked about anywhere, even in guitar circles.

My feelings about this album are complicated. It's maybe the most popular metal album of all time, an accolade that isn't entirely undeserved. However, pretty much every metalhead has listened to this album, hell half of it still gets played on the radio from time to time, and knows how important it is, but has also found something they like better than Metallica.

Its by far the most accessible Metallica album. Everything is good, the production is top notch. However, that does lessen a bit of what makes thrash so enjoyable so its not perfect. That feeling metallica wasn't comfortable with the material can be noticed

Superb, cohesive and changed metal forever

Wow this album takes me all the way back. Going to show my age but definitely has this on cassette tape. Didn’t have to fast forward through many songs. Lars Ulrich is such a badass on this album. I love him on the drums. NGL it gets me so hype

The older I get the more I like Metallica.

Nice one. Not my favourite band, but really nice album.

Iconic metal

I've never listened to this album from start to finish, but I'm very familiar with all of the singles from it. When it comes to the singles, "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" are tied for my favorites. I love their slower pace, and they both feature some of my favorite guitar playing from Metallica. I really enjoy James Hetfield's growling vocals, and he shines on those songs. "Enter Sandman" would be my next favorite, with its fantastic cymbal crashes and screeching and wailing guitar solo. As for "Sad But True" and "Wherever I May Roam," well, those are unfortunately two of my least favorite Metallica singles. The guitar playing is pretty ho-hum to me, and they don't offer Hetfield anything unique to perform vocally. The other songs on this album are good, but the singles are what stand out. As a whole, the album sounds great and cohesive, with memorable guitar playing, great vocals, and a good mixture of lyrics. I think this album has earned an important place in the history of music and popular culture. For a band like Metallica to create something that stays true to themselves, but that has also been accessible to so many people for the last thirty plus years is absolutely incredible. This album brought metal into the mainstream, and has managed to keep it there. I grew up in a household where metal was definitely not allowed, but Metallica still managed to make into my ears quite a bit throughout my childhood and teenage years. This album firmly earns its place on this list for the impact that it's had.

Classic album that brought Metal to the Mainstream once again with tight catchy riffs, sleek production, and easily quotable lyrics that are just generic enough that they are relatable to all. The singles on this album are everywhere - I mean Enter Sandman has 1.2 Billion Streams on Spotify alone. That's insane. While this doesn't scratch the same itches that Master of Puppets or Ride the Lightning does, it does usher in a new era of rock music and created an entire industry of Adult Contemporary Rock that still dominates the jock DJs on FM radio. I know that this sounds negative but I really do like this album, its just been played to death. Nothing Else Matters is really just Metallica's - Wish You Were Here moment but it at least it somehow still is an enjoyable listen even though its also been played to death. Best Tracks for me: Where Ever I may roam, The Unforgiven, etc.

Really tough rating for me. This album was a gateway into metal for me, but I also think I've heard so many better albums since that introduction. Don't get me wrong, so many bangers on this. But listening to it again it feels like it's too long. Lop off a couple songs and this would be a "no skips" album.

Some I hadn't heard in a while. Enter the Sandman a classic.

Certified classic.

Fuck yeah! Metallica’s most awesome album! Not a bad track in there (actually there 5 tracks I never listen to, but the other tracks more than make up for them!) Just revisiting this one - knocked it down a star, seemed appropriate considering some of the awesome albums I have given 4 stars to!

Favorite tracks: Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Holier Than Thou, The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Through The Never, Nothing Else Matters Least favorite track: Don't Tread On Me

I know that a lot of people bash this album for being too "commercial", but I liked it. I have a lot of really good memories associated with this album. Do with that what you will.

One of Metallica's best albums, some essential tracks here. 4/5

Enter Sandman is a brilliant album opener. I was starting to get a bit worn out by Holier Than Thou. The Unforgiven drew me back in. The rest of the album was good. Not much to say about it.

Not their best album, arguably the start of the downfall of their music, but it is not bad

Extreme adaptability for metal band

Do old head Metallica fans still hate this or are they over that?

Pretty good, but I got sick of it fast.

En ekte Classic. Uansett hvor mye dritt jeg gir Metallica kan jeg ikke late som om dette IKKE er et godt album. Legit. Sånn alle låtene folk kan av metallica er på dette albumet. Nothing Else matters, sad but true, senter Sandman, The unforgiven osv osv. Eneste låta jeg ikke liker her er kanskje «Don’t tread on me» som er litt for viking-Metal for meg

Liker, men syntes instrumentalen er på et helt annet nivå enn vokalen, som trekker det helhetlige inntrykket ned. Favorittsang: Wherever I May Roam

Classic Metallica

75% forgettable 25% first ballot hall of fame probably a 4 star

The album that made Metallica a mainstream band. Solid easy listening metal start to finish.

Probably my favorite Metallica album

The vocals are to choppy to be perfect, but close

Metallica have grown on me a bit, this does have some great tracks on it. It trails off a little towards the end, and I do prefer the live album.

Good rock album. One of my go tos for working out in he gym

Het lijkt wel een best of, tenminste ik hoor toch een aantal bekende klassieke nummers. Het genre is niet helemaal mijn smaak, maar op het terrein van Zware Metalen weten deze heren van wanten.

I learned all the songs on guitar for this album!

This definitely takes me back to high school!

A front end banger, classic metal songs and a few slower ones just as classic, great fucking tunes.

Un disco formativo

A solid entry with some real classic thrash riffs, although I hadn't realized Don't Tread On Me was so starkly anti-soviet. Guess the band's fans make more sense now.

Bro this was a blast to the past i listened to this album in middle school on repeat. To the point i hated Metallica for a while. After a long hiatus it was so fun to listen to again. The album definitely holds up. I still won’t listen to Metallica frequently but still a great band

7.5.. classic songs mixed with mediocrity.

The unforgiven is a great tune on this, I really appreciate the coherence of sound

This was one of my first cds I got as a kid. It still holds up but I do think some of their older work is better

like memes aside they did a solid job on this album

Heavy metal like PoP Warrior Within, very good album

Solid album. Less thrashy and more refined/polished. Really starts to crossover into rock more so than metal. For better of for worse. Standouts are "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters".

Listening to the singles on this album brought back vivid memories of the videos, and sitting around all day in summer with friends watching MTV. What a time. 3.5 stars bumped to a 4 because of the memories.

You can never really go wrong with a Metallica album (almost anyway). I don't listen to them regularly, mostly at the gym but they are still good. I like alot of songs on this one

It's been a long time since last good metal album. There are one of the best (if not the best) Metallica songs. I totally get why some people say that this the best album of this band. I'm not big fun of Metallica but this is still good metal album and it fits on this list.

4th or 5th best metallica album

It’s long. The songs are similar. Sometimes there’s a bit too much guitar noodling. That being said, I think it’s great. Metallica’s sound is unmistakable.

There's a reason why the top two streamed Metallica tracks on Spotify are from this album. This is where the thrash and muscle from their first five albums get slightly refined and sweetened and on the strongest material, it's excellent. Not every second of the album is a winner, "Holier Than Thou" struck me as particularly ponderous, but on the whole, this is solid heavy rock from one of the most popular bands ever. I might sound like a fan, truth is, I don't own a single Metallica album (who knows where my cassette versions of Master Of Puppets and And Justice For All have gotten to). I've always admired how they were able to get ever more popular without alienating their early fans — not an easy feat, but a testament to the fact that these guys delivered the goods, and I appreciate them maybe more than I love the music. But this might be their best album. I guess I need to listen to all the others to make that determination. Not making any promises...

Metallica's first big letdown, and their last album that can be considered good. I liked this album a quite a bit for around a year when I was a dumb kid, but even then I was disappointed that it was more hard rock than the thrash they perfected on their first 4 albums. Nevertheless, production is great and this is a highly-accessible classic hard rock album.

Decent album with the obvious standout tracks. Enjoyed them at the time, but not the full album.

Even though a consider myself "a bit" of a metal head I was never very big on Metallica. They have a handful of songs I've enjoyed over the years but for the most part they rely on that Thrash metal sound too much which has always kind of bored me. The Black Album is different though. They have a ton of bangers on here that still hold up even today.

Haven’t listened to a lot of Metallica, but this was pretty good. I might have to listen to even more Metallica

Спасибо что без оркестра. Уже +1. Но я так и не научился кончать от тяжелой музыки и металла. Не, ну звучит очень круто. Очень плотные рифаки, композиции прям как симфонии, только под тяжёлые гитары. Металично, короче.

Þetta er djöfulsins partý. Rosa nostalgía. Fíla þetta.

Classic!

A straight shot of adrenalin. This isn’t my style of music, and yet I was surprised how many of these songs were in my consciousness! Well crafted music by thoroughgoing musicians.

All the songs I know and love one one album

No bad songs but some are forgettable Favorites: Wherever I May Roam, The Unforgiven 1, Nothing Else Matters, Of Wolf And Man Least liked: The Struggle Within, Don't Tread On Me

Excellent album - bringing in Bob Rock took them to the big leagues, even if I prefer their thrashier sound more.

Close to 5, but a couple songs bring down an otherwise exceptional album. Those songs: Nothing Else Matters and Sad But True. Come at me

Echti Legände. Härt. Weiss echt ninig eb 4 oder 5 Sterne. Isch nöd würklich min Sound. Aber scho s'paar Goldschätz drunder. Halt ebe doch nur 4 Stern. 5 wäreds wänns mini Musig wär.

I don't know if I liked Enter Sandman and Nothing else Matters because I already know them, or if they are really the two standout songs from the album. It was a nice enough album, but did not make me a Metallica fan.

Lyrics have never been Metallica’s strong suit, but the the instrumentals here are powerful and bombastic. A landmark of early 90s metal.

I'd give it a 5 but the second half of the album felt like already tread ground for the most part.

Wish I could give a 9 here, fantastic album

Classic Metallica. I actually like this slower Metallica better than the earlier fast thrash-metal Metallica. Enter Sandman obvious standout but all are good. Great guitar and bass sound on this. Drums sound great too. 4.5 Stars

If all metal were to be like this, call me a metalhead. I have to shout out the album cover is a very cheeky wink to White Light/White Heat…

Really enjoy most of these well known songs, but as an album they start to blend together (maybe that's intentional?) My mind wandered off in the back half as it tends to.

Never listened to this directly, but am varying degrees of familiar with the hits. There's something truly epic about a slow metal banger, which I'm hearing on The Unforgiven. Only a few songs in, but so far enjoying it more than I expected to. The first half was good, the last half got boring. I'll give it a 4/5 for rocking, but yeah definitely found it to be top-heavy.

The "Black Album". Good metal, but Master of Puppets is better. This was the age where James Hedfield adds a "yugh!" to the end of the last word at every sentence.

From thrash metal to trash metal, am I right? Call them sellouts if you want but it's undeniable that this cemented Metallica as bona fide rock stars with catchy singles fit for radio play. Shoutout to Biffy Clyro for having the best cover (Holier than Thou) on the tribute album.

4.5 Almost perfect. The last few songs are kind of lackluster in comparison to the rest.

I was born a year AFTER this came out and I'm probably the furthest thing you can get from a metalhead or aficionado but there's no getting around the fact that Metallica's eponymous effort absolutely fucks. I had only ever heard Enter Sandman and Nothing Else Matters off this record before and was pleasantly surprised by how not-bored I was by the rest of the tracks. I think what impresses me about Metallica is that they aren't so far down the thrash rabbit hole that they haven't lost sight of the importance of dynamics - some later groups just sound like a wall of noise to me. Here though the gentler moments (like in Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters) make the harder moments stand out even more clearly. Thought it was really interesting that Metallica's current top three listener cities are all in Central and South America! Through the Never was a cool track.

Whether or not we call this heavy metal, thrash metal or just heavy music, this changed the landscape when it was released in 1991 (and I am not just referring to Mariano Rivera). The releases up to that point was a not mere metal - there were hints of punk, hard rock, prog, blues and classical. This was, however, their attempt at mainstream success abd ob that level it was wildly successful. If I was to choose one Metallica release, it would be ...And Justice For All. There are parts of Metallica that are uneven, but there is no denying the power.

Dark and dense. The drums and guitars are excellent but like most metal the lyrics aren’t as good. I like this but listening straight through made me want it to be shorter.

This was well done by just not my personal preference. It certainly deserves a place on the list. Kirk hammet is a beast.

Metalheading with classics

5* for production & mix

First listen. I prefer thrash Metallica to this. Beyond bored with the five singles I've heard ad nauseum the past 30 years. Still, I can't deny this is a good album. "Through the Never" was great - I'll be adding it to a playlist for sure.

Very good. Rating: 4.0

Not a big metalhead, but greatly enjoyed this album.

Not a regular listen for me. But, still a very strong album.

Metallica

Pretty good metal on offer here.

Band of my youth, I've been to quite a few concert of Metallica in my life, awesome experience. I'm not a fan anymore, but I still appreciate some of the older albums, like Ride The Lightning, or ...And Justice For All. It's a bit more complicated story with Black Album though. As a young metalhead I was full of clichés, so automatically I assumed Black Album was the worst record by Metallica up to date. It was more in soft metal genre then their usual thrash, and suddenly they became more popular, which is unacceptable for a fake metal purist. This approach changed with time - I still don't think of it as the greatest album, but I almost equally like every song on it. Only exception would be Enter Sandman, because I find the main riff very frustrating for some reason. Nevertheless, very good album, which opened the metal genre to the wider audience.

Near fantastic album, however when I first listened around a month ago I thought it was just average, so I’d need to qualify it by giving it a 4. Really more like a 3.75 tho.

It’s a classic for a reason! Though I did find it a bit repetitive sonically.

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Enter sadman, Sad but true, The unforgiven, Nothing else matters, The god that failed

yeah good

BL: I listened to Metallica a little bit whilst I was in my metal head phase when I was 13-15, however I quickly used them as a stepping stone into deeper cuts and more hardcore things which i thought were cooler. Aware of maybe 2/3rds of the tracks on this album. Will be interested to see what I find it like now I don’t listen to too much metal. AL: I enjoyed it a lot. “Enter Sandman” is overrated but “nothing else matters” is still a gem to this day. A lot of cool stuff and a thoroughly enjoyed listen through. FT: “The Unforgiven”, “Nothing Else Matters”, “The God That Failed” 4/5

What a great song to start an album with. I never really listened to a Metallica album before, but I'm glad I did.

hearing it immediately after Back in Black by ACDC, it is unfair to compare - the drumming and seething power is different here... angrier and more snarl (which make the AC DC boys seem sinpler, happy and loud). not that darkness is needed in rock - its raw power it taps into. but here there is also a somehow subtler finesse that is more easily heard - details that endure scrutiny. Shit guys, I need to say its Ornate, and what they are doing is "on show". a performance of power, almost POSING, no illusion of spontaneous animal rock here. ?. maybe that is part of the magic of AC DC, it works and you don't question why. (whereas if we call this virtuoso stuff more "American" - well it is from the first track, it's telling you why it's special - the slapping/tapping timbre and thunder drums is really attention grabbing... then the restraint and musical "The Unforgiven" shows their control in a way that juts spoves their skill but also everything I just said (even if the cutover form intro int hat song is harsh IMO). I Like it, I admire it, but I find myself feeling it's much more "commercial" and pristine as heavy rock goes. The skill and talent of the musician's is beyond question. showpiece stuff. But what is missing? relatability? is all this showing off putting distance between artist and audience?. and yes, too much twiddling on the guitar at times, and what that up-tick and "ah" at the end of words. over-laboured? yes to me it is Ornate heavy rock, at times it even operatic "wherever I may roam" was tiresome for me. I guess this is what 1001 albums and thinking about music does - I sound like a record shop tosser now. who cares. no one is ready, ha! Nonetheless the first song from the album is all class. 4.5 stars... marked down because it's a bit much, despite great musicianship.

I didn’t think I liked metal but this was pretty great!

The last good album from metal grandmasters has the most radio-friendly songs.

Memorable riffs and some genuine classic rock songs (all five excellent singles) - all well played and bellowed (I like Hetfield’s range). More accessible than earlier Metallica, but still a bit too thrashy overall for my taste across the entire album. A four because the singles are excellent.

I enjoy this album, but don't think it's quite as good as Master of Puppets. There's a couple of songs on here (like Unforgiven) that I just find really uninteresting. But for the most part, it's great!

I know this album is divisive among metal heads. A bunch of people saying Metallica sold out, I always like when artists try out new sounds whether or not they work out. Most of the songs are solid, except “nothing else matters”. This song prevents this from being a 5 star album. To me, Metallica and specifically James Hetfield just don’t make a straight up ballad work. Having said that, this is a solid album and a good gateway to metal and going from there.

4.5 excellent for working out

Was not a fan of their earlier harder stuff but by this album they had evolved a bit and I actually like some of it (Nothing Else Matters, The Unforgiven, Enter Sandman). Some really good music

Confession: I’ve never really been a Metallica fan. That’s more apathy than an actual opinion, though. I’ve listened to this album before (10+ years ago?) but I feel like I’ve never given them a proper shot. I’m enjoying this more than I remembered. Still, some songs are not doing much for me. For every song I like there’s another I could leave behind. I feel like there are too few musical ideas here - the songs started to blur together at times. Maybe that’s a track sequencing thing? I’d maybe like this more if it had been culled down to a ~40 min LP. Standout tracks: The Unforgiven, Through The Never, Nothing Else Matters, The God That Failed, Struggle Within 3.75/4

great!!

snilld, en ekki fullkomin. finnst þetta ekki skref niður á við

Leave it to Metallica to take you on a dark and epic journey. Never disappointing.

I'm not a big metal fan so the album is kind of a "meh" for me. Good production and performances though. I've also heard most of the songs before.

the album we all love to hate. OK, it sucks compared to their earlier stuff. But it's still some great metal.

8/10. It was better than I expected. There was a lot of variety on the album which I wasn’t expecting. Enter Sandman is the best song on the album of course.

Very much enjoyed that. Had to knock a star off as many of the songs sound the same, especially in the back part of the album. I didn't notice where one ended and another began. Despite this, I thought that the second half of the album was on the whole stronger than the first. Based on the public reviews, I think I need to refine myself.

This is a quality album containing a lot of Metallica's classic hits. I'm one of the outliers in that I quite like their more recent albums too but this is probably their best. Highlights that aren't the classics Enter Sandman, Sad But True or Nothing Else Matters: Holier Than Thou Wherever I May Roam The Struggle Within

Amazing guitar solos. Not a fan of all the lyrics.

As a fan of Metallica, it's a shame I haven't listened to this album for a long while! It's got a massive mix of their style on here, from classics to great songs that I wasn't that familiar with. Great album.

Surprisingly enjoyable, not usually my taste in music but I definitely enjoyed this one. I am not sure if it opened up a new genre for me, but it was good to listien.

Bom mas cheio de fillers e músicas de mesma estrutura

after enter sandman all of the songs are either dynamic and interesting or enter sandman but not as good

Classic and a solid 4/4.5

This is probably my favorite Metallica album that I have listened to in depth. It brings back a lot of memories of cheap bourbon and riding around in other people's Mustangs. This album is the most relatable because it has some down tempo and more melodious tracks to balance out the dunh dunh dunh tracks. Overall, always worth a consideration-- as in, is this the direction I need to go today? Am I feeling this mad and hateful toward the world. And once in a while, the answer will be yes and Metallica will slip into your DMs and be just perfect at that moment.

Metallica’s self-titled album - the “black” album - was my first real exposure to Metallica. Even after I went back and listened to their earlier, rawer work, it kept an outsized place for me in part through the Virginia Tech football team’s use of “Enter Sandman” as their entrance hype song. When Metallica played the song live at Lane Stadium earlier this month, the VT fans jumped up and down to “Enter Sandman” just as they do at the start of every home football game, and it shook not just the stadium but the earth enough to register at a nearby seismological station. “Enter Sandman” also was used for the entrance of ECW wrestler Sandman, so for many reasons I’ve got a soft spot for that song and the album. It was also a huge hit, and remains their most popular. It’s what a lot of people think of when they think of Metallica. But is it their best? Not for me. “Ride the Lightning” and “Master of Puppets” are more consistent, with the black album close behind.

If Enter Sandman is your entrance music, you better back that shit up because you are declaring yourself to be bad ass. As the best closer in baseball, Mariano Rivera backed that shit up. Virginia Tech uses Enter Sandman as the team takes the football field and the whole stadium is jumping up and down like the writhing snake that graces the album cover (spoiler, they do not always back that shit up but its still the most bad ass entry into a sports arena). Metallica, for the most part, also backs that shit up by delivering what has become kind of a standard against which all other heavy metal is judged.

“Metallica sold out man. What a bunch of assholes.” - Some asshole, somewhere There are a lot of good songs on this album…and some of them are slow. Nothing Else Matters is great…and shows a completely different side of Metallica from say Master Of Puppets or Ride The Lightning. By album #5, a band should be producing a sound that has evolved from album #1. “Metallica matured man. What a bunch of assholes.” - Some asshole, somewhere

Lots of bangers, definitely need to explore more metal after this. It really fits a certain mood when your just angry and want to escape from the world. Favourite song: enter sandman, fantastic song especially that start

Good listen!

Metallica go mainstream. Some great tunes

The main problem people seem to have with this album is the departure from the band’s previous sound and claim they sold out. Metallica’s intention was to reach a wider audience as they noticed their previous album was very niche. In that sense I have no problem with the change in musical direction. The songs are a little more pop driven, but that’s what they were going for, so I can’t fault them. The only fault I have with the album is from the production side. Every element (vocals, bass, drums, guitar) sounds great on their own, but altogether, don’t mesh as well. Everything else was great and I enjoyed the album very much. Not their best work, but by no means should anyone say that this is a bad album. 4/5

Grunge fs enter sandman is an emo masterpiece

Dark, and cool

Not as good as their classic albums, but still really solid.

3.5 Enjoyed it more than I expected (haven't listened to Metallica in a long time)

Some absolute bangers but some filler so can’t be 5 stars.

Classic songs by Metallica although not really my style (even though I like metal).

Some great tracks some eh tracks very cohesive though

I can once again see how people are dead into this

Definitivt inte min musikstil men denna platta har otroligt många hits. Hade One också varit med så hade det blivit en femma.

The hits are amazing, the filler is good but not great.

The last great album of Metallica! Yes, it strays a little bit from the conventional thrash metal sound of them, opting for adopting a more traditional heavy metal style, and I know that many people don't like it because of that but c'mon, it is good heavy metal! Most of Metallica's greatest hits are here, but there are also some really underrated gems. If you want to start listening to metal, this is a really good place to start. Still, it is not Metallica's best album, but it is still really good

Absolutely ground breaking album - saw them at Lollapalooza 96, my ears and face never fully recovered.

Already in my liked albums list. Iconic.

It's no "Ride The Lightning" or "Master Of Puppets", but it's still in the better half of Metallica albums. Sad that's it only downhill from here. "Enter Sandman", "Sad But True", "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" though? Can't go wrong with that. Big hits. Large hits, even. Overrated yet overhated at the same time. Four outta five.

Classic. Before they got terrible.

Great album as a whole. Holier than Thou is the weakest by far as it sounds like Weird Al doing a Metallica cover

Metallica needed to make this album. It's as great as their previous works and still holds up to this day. The only thing they could've done to improve it was to remove some tracks and let the greater tracks shine even brighter.

I'm guessing Nightmare by Avenged Sevenfold got a lot of inspiration from this (plenty of other bands too, but this album reminds me a lot of that one). Wish I could give 4.5s. I think Sad But True struck me the most, but plenty of great riffs, classic angry angsty metal.

Thoroughly enjoy this album although some songs are a bit heavy

Always a classic

Not my favorite Metallica album, but maybe their best.

Rock n roll

I'm not going to let the neckbeards who love Metallica but hate this album ruin it for me. I'm also not going to let the self-righteous, skinny-jean, hardcore kids ruin it either. It's a good album. These songs are objectively great. That's why these tracks have been covered over and over ad nauseam in a dozen different genres. It's also why you know almost all of them even though you've never owned a single Metallica album. These songs just work. Is Metallica a band of utter douchebags? Sure. But that's not enough to negate good songs. If it were, there'd be no Rolling Stones, Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Prince, The Smiths, or Oasis on the list. And there would definitely be no damn Kanye on here. Screw the haters, it's a good album. Deal with it.

Iconic song, great guitar.

Doesn't hit as hard as when I was 14 but still a classic. Too long like most Metallica albums.

Metallica doing accessible without compromising heavy and generally killing it. Enter Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters are top quality. The rest not of the same stratospheric level. Although mostly decent enough album tracks, the second half of the tecord is a bit of a slog to get through. If 2 to 4 of the weaker tracks had been left off it would be 5/5. Rating: 4/5 Playlist track: Enter Sandman Date listened: 03/10/22

This is really good. Wouldn't listen to it often, and not when I'm working, but when I need something loud and good

If you like Metallica I’m sure this album is monumental. For someone less interested in metal, it’s still pretty cool. It’s not exactly my style, but it does feel slightly better in terms of variety than the previous album we listened to

legendary album, but not really to my tastes.

So. Many. Hits. Lots of nostalgia with this one.

Middle school me's favorite album and still one I return to all the time. I have a lot of issues with Metallica as people but the music still slaps (at least until the later stuff).

Album is fantastic

Classic songs, but more mainstream sound than earlier albums

My 13 year old self loved this album back in the early 90’s, and my 43 year old self still likes it quite a bit today, possibly mostly for nostalgic purposes. Regardless, it was fun to head bang through all the songs for old times sake.

I didn’t think I like Metallica that much, but I knew most of the songs and was really vibing with this. Idk what that means for me as a person.

Thought that maybe it would get a bit repetitive with all the heavy guitars but they broke it up nicely with some slower songs. Nothing Else Matters my favourite track.

4 - some absolute classics but it only just makes a 4 as a fair bit filler too.

Understand why some fans hated the shift in musical direction, but I also feel this album earned the constant-to-this-day radio play. And the deeper cuts were welcome discoveries, too (Wolf, Struggle) HL: The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters, Sad But True

4.5/5. F'ing great

Not the best Metallica album, but it has some bangers nevertheless.

This! I grew up with this. Every single song (besides Nothing Else Matters, since commercial radio really killed that one) still gives me goosebumps...

The good ones are still good, the other ones have aged quite a bit.

While it’s definitely the most commercial Metallica album - the “edge” of their brand of thrash is dull at times - “Metallica” is still a great listen. You can hear it a million times on the radio, but Enter Sandman is still Enter fucking Sandman. 4.25 stars

Like many commenters I was listening to Metallica before this album and loved them. This album was definitely a commercial-focused departure from their earlier works. Some of the songs are still great, but too many similar songs, same tempo, same chords, same feel. It's missing that raw-ness of the older Metallica music that makes this kind of music great.

I don't think I really like Metallica, and their older content shows skill and style way more. But this is still a classic, and a huge crossover.

Not my main genre, but I can appreciate this is a great album.

Classic Metallica album but for me, it was the start of their shift away from what I loved about their earlier records. Definitely not a bad thing that they started to diversify their sound and explore shorter, more approachable music. Hell, after the AJFA tour I would never want to play a song over 6 minutes ever again either.

Like it, but not usually in the mood

Классика метала. Энергично, бодро. Оценку ставить трудно, но альбом точно заслуживает 4.

4/5 Fantastic album. Some of Metallicas best songs on it. I think some tracks could be cut from it however which I’d then rate it as 5/5.

A true classic. Easy to listen yet interesting ideas in almost each song

Throwback na edgy fazu. Al još uvijek volim ovaj album.

Đesi crni albume ćuknem te u glavu.

High quality, very approachable, metal album. Has a mix of anthems, ballads, and jams, all easy to sing to. Awesome stuff

Brings me back to being a teenager, thinking I was a rebel listening to this. Now I know this is tame lol. Still very much holds up to time and I enjoy it even more now that I'm older and can appreciate the lyrics and the instrumentals even more.

The five singles are all 5*, just great, brooding metal songs (that slow snare roll in Sad But True - so simple but so effective), and even the ballads sound heavy as... a really heavy thing. It seems like the rest of the album isn't quite on the same level, but to be fair it could just be that I'm less familiar with the other tracks. 4.5

Kanskje da einaste albumet eg kan setta pris på fra 90-tallet??

Fun to listen to front-to-back. Just about every song a slam-dunk.

Pretty good, but not Metallicas best album

Metallica and Megadeth were the leaders of heavy metal well into the early 90s, constantly reinventing the genre with each album. But here, Metallica walks in a direction that absolutely no one expected. If you want to get anyone into metal, start here for a million reasons. Obvious reason: several of the singles are among the most popular songs in metal, anyone who doesn't dwell in a rock has heard at least "Enter Sandman" and "Nothing Else Matters" hundreds of times. Less obvious: it's a pop metal album, with an emphasis on the vocals and less so much on epic instrumentals. The vocals are clear and forefront (it's not common you can understand every line spoken), the production couldn't be better, the choruses are catchy and invite people to sing along, and the riffs are distinct and memorable. And yes, it has everything you'd expect from the genre. It's heavy and grim in lyrical subject. It has power, speed, and a doomy sound unmatched by anyone since Black Sabbath. Nearly half the tracks are popular singles that are all excellent, despite how overplayed 2 of them are. My favorite of these is "Wherever I May Roam." I do see the merit in putting the singles at the front to entice new listeners, but it does cause odd track ordering decisions. Looking at the deep cuts, there's something I like about all of them, but "Holier Than Thou" is a bit of a misfit in between the singles, and doesn't make up for its competition. "Don't Tread on Me" is decent, it was supposed to be the 6th single, and follows a similar formula. "Through the Never" is one of the heavier tracks looking back to their thrash style fused with a doomy guitar, which is a bit weird coming right before their most melodic track "Nothing Else Matters." Next track "Of Wolf and Man" is another decent song, following the groovy formula. The next two are the strongest deep cuts, demonstrating the creative versatility they're capable of taking each song. Great guitar solos. The closer "The Struggle Within" is a bit boring at first, but I like the bass and where they take it 1.5 minutes in, and it's the most faithful to their trash style. Weird to end on it. Keep in mind that when I say decent, the production still makes them all sound excellent, and nobody ever plays poorly in any of the tracks; it all comes down to the songwriting, which is weak on several tracks. It's close to a perfect score, but they had potential to improve their songwriting and track ordering.

Another classic. This is the album that marks a big shift towards a more commercial sound for Metallica and, while that was questionable in the long run, this record is great. There are a couple of songs towards the end that I'm not as big on, but at least half of this album is just timeless tune after timeless tune

Pretty much the only Metallica album that's a genuinely good album (and I'm leaving the definition of "good" ambiguous on purpose, on account of this not exactly representing the bread and butter of my music consumption). Enter Sandman is a truly awesome track, and Nothing Else Matters isn't a slouch either. A bit of a pity about the fillers, but at least they don't overcrowd the affair.

One of Metallica's better albums

Always fun to listen to Metallica. This album has a couple of good ones that would be worthy of 5 stars, but doesn't quite get there as a whole. It has some lame filler that drags the album down too such as Don't Tread On Me or The Struggle Within. The album is pretty long too, so would have greatly benefited from simply cutting the chaff. All of that said, it was still a highly enjoyable listen, but it's definitely not on the level of ...And Justice For All.

Very enjoyable. Took me back to the early 2000s when I was introduced to this. Nothing Else Matters will always be a song for me and an ex. And Don’t Tread On Me is just ace.

Absolutely brilliant

Aguante.

I don't really like Nothing Else Matters, and it was a little - dare I say it - boring at times. However, this album was overall pretty catchy, even if not super groundbreaking, and I'd listen to this in my spare time if I were cleaning or something.

it's so funny that I thought Metallica was too heavy...like only freaks and druggies listened and it was garbage. Then the older I get, the more it's just music, good good music. So many classics on this one. It's an extremely good album that holds up so well!

I own this album and really enjoy it. I think James Hetfield's musicianship is fantastic. I especially like the slower tempo songs. They highlight his melodic and harmonic sensibilities superbly. There's a lot more to their music than might meet most ears. Excellent album.

A great, classic Metallica album. It lacks the speed and energy of the earlier albums, trading it for a tighter and more polished sound. I will add that slowing down really helped the band amplify the depth and intensity of their sound, allowing them to venture into new musical territory and create some of their most memorable songs. The original fans may not all love it, but this is the album that really made them superstars. Fave Songs: Nothing Else Matters, Wherever I May Roam, Enter Sandman, Sad but True, The Unforgiven, The Struggle Within, Holier than Thou

pretty decent idk, I’m not really into grunge unless it’s Kurt Cobain or whatever but this was pretty well executed, at least part of the time feels like a 7/10 to me

Nice to listen to, knew more than I thought I would

Still rocks

I'm not a fan of metal, not a true fan anyway. I do really enjoy JP, for example, but it's not really on my rotation. But Metallica is a band that puts music out there with a seeming purpose. Well, other bands might have a purpose of just pure thrashing, pulsating, non-coherent noise, Metallica makes me want to continue listening...

An amazing album and one where i bought it on cassette and immediately drove from Tempe, Arizona to Bloomington, Indiana listening to it on repeat. Clearly Sandman, Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters stand out. Very enjoyable to revisit it again start to finish.

There's a reason this thing was so big. Still sounds pretty great, and a lot better than most of their following albums.

Pretty good... Metal is not my very favorite genre, but this is pretty classic.

Well rounded and enjoyable

I know it's a very basic take but I think this album is very good. I know Metallica somewhat "sold out" with this album by going more mainstream as opposed to their previous very much thrash metal style. But this album is simply great.

Oldie but goodie, heard this one too much in college, never bought, brilliantly paced from beginning to end.

Ah, heavy metal. I recently found out that the genre, for some reason, calms my anxiety, so I'd been dabbling in Judas Priest which I've greatly enjoyed. This album is, however, my first time listening to Metallica. The production, the instrumentals and the lyrics, which are sometimes meh in heavy metal, are all top quality. As can be a problem with metal, the later songs did start to feel 'samey' and I found myself losing interest. Solid start and a solid 4 though.

There's a reason that 80% of the people I know born around the same time as me (late 70s early 80s) own a copy of this album. It's probably the most poppy of Metallica's work and appeals to the widest audience.

Good metal stuff

What a polarizing album lol. Trve Kvlt metalheads see it as the album where Metallica became irredeemable, mainstream music fans see it as the band being boiled down into their most listenable and polished form, and all manner of opinions fall in the middle (including mine). I see it as an album where Metallica went for a more commercial sound, and did so very successfully both in execution and profit. It might be a bit of a sell out, and it doesn't hit as high of highs as their earlier stuff for me, but there is still some damn good stuff on this one. Load and Reload on the other hand... thank god this came before them lol.

Opens with a phenomenal track, and while there are a lot of emotional songs that I actually quite enjoy, I find the end of the album drags a bit.

4/5 The instrumentals were very good, having interesting bass riffs and guitar playing, especially during the very melodic solos. The vocals were strong in terms of delivery, while lyrics were better on some songs than others. the structure does get a little repetitive after song 8 but that is a minor problem that just knocks it down off the 5/5, alongside the unforgiven and wherever I may roam being a little long in my opinion

This is an enjoyable album with some classic tracks. I'm not a big metal aficionado, but I can see how this album exemplifies the genre. What I'm not sure of is whether this album created the formula, or just follows it, but it is incredibly difficult to not notice the structure of it. We start out strong, very metal. This continues until we reach the softer, more heartfelt "the unforgiven". We then get a 50:50 softer/harder track in "Whereever I Roam" and then the metal comes back, with a stonking finale in The Struggle Within. It's pressing emotional triggers in a way that were the music less good might seem cynical, according to a defined structure. I can't really criticise that, given how successfully they've done it, but it stands out like a sore thumb. It's reminiscent of so much metal, from the narrative of Bat out of Hell and Use Your Illusions through the later structures of Roots Bloody Roots or even some of the numetal of the mid-late 90s. Would I listen to the whole album through again? Probably not. Would I listen to tracks from it? Absolutely yes.

Metallica is actually my first time ever listening to metal, and it turns out to be a lot less violent than my misconception told me it was. It was overall a good listen, not my genre but I can appreciate it anyway.

I have this album in my library. I have been familiar with it since the early 90s. When I wanted to listen to some metal, this was pretty much it for me, as it seemed somehow more accessible than other metal that I had heard. It was great to revisit the album, because it had been ages and ages since I had given it a listen. I just don't often get much of a craving for metal.

Hard to believe that it was 30 years ago that I bought this CD. I haven't listened to it in a long, long time and was reluctant to listen today. I figured I'd outgrown it. BUT I found the first 2/3 of the album absolutely exhilarating. This is great heavy metal with distinct and singable melodies and lyrics. Enter Sandman, Sad But True, The Unforgiven, Wherever I May Roam, Don't Tread on Me, and Nothing Else Matters are as thrilling to listen to today as they were back then. I really wish the album ended after Nothing Else Matters though. The last four tracks are tiresome if not downright silly.

I did not enjoy MASTER OF PUPPETS despite my best efforts. But this album - released 5 years later - opens with “Enter Sandman,” a song I have really loved since the early 90s. So as I put this on I am really, really hoping the next hour holds up to that song. But I have my doubts given my experience with MOP… It turns out that the five years between MOP and METALLICA resulted in a much more palatable album. Where most of MOP monotonously ground away at my ears, METALLICA has a whole lot more going on on. The vocals are much more emotionally expressive. The lyrics are a lot more relatable and interesting. The arrangements have way more variety and interest. My favorite song remains “Enter Sandman.” I also really like - and already knew - “Nothing Else Matters” (hooray for the orchestra!). Other highlights included “Sad But True”, “Holier Than Thou”, “Through The Never” and “Of Wolf and Man”. Metallica is still not entirely in my wheelhouse, but where my main reaction to MOP was ‘when will this be over?’, METALLICA had me mostly wondering ‘what might be next?’ That and the presence of “Enter Sandman” and “Nothing Else Matters” made this something I’m glad to have listened to.

Well I mean it's a classic, isnt it

The "black" album, contains another of their masterpieces and one of their greatest, Enter Sandman (tank cadence, textbook guitar progression, raw and brash chorus, instrumental bridge that heightens the dramatic tension, chorus, coda), and again digs into the darkest depths of the human soul (Of Wolf And Man, My Friend Of Misery), but in general it marks the beginning of a step backwards towards a more human sound: only three tracks have a "thrash" rhythm. It is the most "unspectacular" work of their career: Metallica is a classic mainstream hard rock album and you are going to hear it whether you like it or not. (7/10) FT: Enter Sandman, The Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters

A selection of Metallica-style songs off the album Metallica by Metallica

Listen, the guys of Metallica are kind of big loser babies, but I cannot deny that this album absolutely rules. I enjoyed every rock and rolling minute, and may have banged my head once or thrice.

One of my all-time favorite albums.

Never heard of these guys. Seriously, the biggest problem with the Metallica album is that the good songs are never played and the great songs have been overplayed. To death. I have friends who are metal fans and if they never hear "Enter Sandman" or "Nothing Else Matters" again for the rest of their lives they would be ECSTATIC. Other songs are really, really good and you don't hear them very often anymore. My personal favorite is "Wherever I May Roam." The intro is so different from anything else the band had done before. Never in a million years would you have expected a progression from "Master of Puppets" to this. I liken "And Justice For All" like so many other progressive rock bands who went too far over the edge, a very divisive album, but then the band stepped back and tried something else. Some regained their fans (Yes, Genesis) others never really recovered (ELP). I picked up the 30th anniversary edition of the Black album (not the boxed set, that's overkill) and the lesser known tracks sound just as good (except "Through The Never", sounds kinda lurch-y. It feels like they aren't very sure about that one.) It's not my favorite album of theirs, but you cannot deny what they accomplished with it. My favorite quote about this album comes from Jason Newsted: "People said we sold out for this album. Yes, we did... every seat in every stadium." So I give this 4 stars, it's a really good, solid album, but it still isn't up there for me of their best (Master of Puppets, a quintessential metal album.).

Metallica have always been the one thrash band I can stand, and this album is a perfect example of their sound. A treat for my first album, but not quite that perfect 5 for me. Enter Sandman is a great song, but one that even I have personally overplayed at this point. Reminds me a lot of the first Rock Band game. If I had to pick a favourite song, I'd struggle between The Unforgiven and Nothing Else Matters.

Enter Sandman is such an epic song. I am also going to give this album 4 stars it was very pleasing. that's my takeaway.

dated but still a classic

The first time I ever encountered the concept of "selling out" was when I was probably 11 or 12. This kid in my Boy Scout troop wanted everybody to know that the Black Album sucks because "it sounds too good." Now, whenever I listen to this album, I picture a greasy-haired kid trying to look cool with his half-buttoned Class A shirt trying to think of reasons he hates it because he knows he's supposed to. I'm not trying to say that selling out or going commercial doesn't sometimes mean compromising artistic integrity, but the furor over Metallica making their music listenable is hilarious to me. This album owns. Best track: Nothing Else Matters

A very heavy and dark outfit from Metallica. It's probably their best and most well known album, having been number 1 in about 10 countries and a mainstay in the charts. It is the quintessential metal/heavy rock album. Its a heavier sound than the likes of the metal albums of the 80s, but does not disappoint. Best: Enter Sandman Worst: Of Wolf and Man

Love this as background, will listen again. 3/5 for concentrated listening, 4/5 background

My introduction to Metallica. As an 11-year-old and completely unaware of their earlier output, I had nothing to taint my view of this one. It was an entirely new sound to me and a very exciting one. I've still got a lot of time for it now.

Not necessarily my vibe but I have to admit that for an album that was released in 1991 it must’ve been huge and impressive. And „The Unforgiven” & „Nothing Else Matters” are undoubtedly both classics now :)

The only Metallica album I’m truly familiar with. Enjoyed on this listen much more than I thought I would.

Great album, don’t love every song but has extremely high highs and no true lows. Perfect for when u just wanna bang ur head around.

Bin also sehr, sehr, sehr befangen. Neu entdeckter Liebling: „My Friends of Misery“. 4.4

great pop metal

The album has been trendy lately due to it getting remastered and having a wide array of weird selections covering it. The album is good but not top Metallica.

Surprisingly not as heavy as I expected. Some cracking tunes

ну ваще-то норм так-то альбум. Ракешник хорошо, хэтфилд орёт неплохо. Отмастерено плоско тока

I have a confession to make. Before reviewing this album, the only version of "Enter Sandman" I had ever heard was the cover by...wait for it...Pat Boone. You haven't lived until you've heard Pat Boone cover heavy metal tunes. Anyway, suffice it to say that I'm completely unfamiliar with Metallica's catalogue. Before I get into my opinion of Metallica's "Black Album," let's get a few things out of the way. There's no disputing the musicianship on display here. This is not simplistic three chord metal headbanging by ham-handed clods. The arrangements are intricate. The playing is pretty much flawless across the board. Some of the songs are catchy, certainly Enter Sandman. James Hetfield's vocals don't move me, but technically, he's an excellent singer--the way I see it, it's my problem and my loss. The guitar playing on the other hand is a minor revelation. Kirk Hammett may not be my favorite metal guitarist, but he's really good. He has taste, a great sound, and chops to spare. With that out of the way, here's my opinion of the album. While there's nothing in particular to complain about, it's just not my thing. I mean, I plan to put their albums in all of my Spotify "year" stations, and I definitely plan to check out the earlier albums, and I wouldn't turn off one of their songs if it came on, but I can't see myself putting on this album and listening to it all the way through again. Why? I find the singer unappealing--it's just personal taste or lack of it. I don't care for the songs, which is oddly enough, where this album is supposed to excel. Again, why? Hard to say. There is little to complain about. There is nothing lazy or unintelligent about the ways these songs are constructed. And clearly some of the songs are hooky. Again, my loss. Actually, this album makes me feel inadequate as a reviewer. Usually, I have damned good reasons for criticizing an album. I hate it when reviewers slam a record for no good reason. And yet here I am. Sigh. Wait a minute. I just figured out what bothers me about this music. It strikes me as cartoonish but with zero sense of humor (now I get why they were used as the model for Spinal Tap). Okay, I feel better now

Great album; a perfect example of Metal.

Brilliant album. Brings back a lot of memories from my teenage years. 'Enter Sandman', 'Unforgiven' both are songs that are etched in the collective memory of me and my friends

Si me gustara el metal, esto me encantaría. Pero como no me gusta, las canciones son muy largas y algunas muy raras
