Reviews (page 7 of 7)

2 stars, doesn’t have West End Girls on it

Being Boring. Yep, that's exactly what I constantly felt throught listen to that album.

Third Pet Shop album. This is the worst one yet. Under an hour but it was just kind of boring. I did not know any of the songs. I kept waiting for it to turn the corner and become good. It did not.

Not their best work

It's fine. It has some stuff that I usually like, but it's much too repetitive.

It was ok Not really my bag

Songs feel kind of underwritten to me?

Did not love it. Reading the wiki the band pretty much said it was not a very happy album. Maybe why I didn't enjoy it too much.

I do like the bet shop boys but found this album to be a little boring?

wasn't a big fan and nothing stood out particularly

I find this so vacant and boring. I like a few Pet Shops Boys hits but after a couple of songs it all sounds the same to me and it's too synthy and I don't like the vocals.

1. being boring - 1 2. thiz muzt be the place - 1.5 3. to face the truth - 2 4. houu can you ezpect me - 1.5 5. only the uuind - 1 6. my october zymphony - 1.5 7. zo hard - 1.5 8. nervouzly - 1 9. end of the uuorld - 1.5 10. jealouzy - 1.5 11. 12.

Weird. 90’s ok sound. Not my preference. But put together well.

When Being Boring started I thought I was in for a fun treat. But, as the album progressed I found myself more and more bored by the lyrics and beats.

This has cemented my dislike of Pet Shop Boys. His voice is just too annoying to enjoy

It's ok if you like the pet shop boys but there's not much going on here

Pretty tame techno music...didn't do a whole lot for me.

Cheesy Brit pop. Has some Ok beats but it's just overwhelmingly manufactured and boring.

Generic

I can't stand this album or this band. It's difficult to find any redeeming qualities here. The range is non-existent, the vocals are annoying, the songs are boring. The production wasn't atrocious, I guess. Not much else to say except that I never want to listen to this again. 2/5

The melodies might be good, but the drum machine and synthesizer effects detract from the songs, making them seem tedious.

PSB is one of those bands that either you really dig an album or you don't. The band itself is not a major factor, but each album feels like it's aimed at a middle-aged, married, queer homemaker. This one just didn't appeal like other albums.

Not for me

Average.

This was pretty bland considering that they have a lot of other great material. One great song and the rest all sort of sounded the same with a low energy output.

I feel like I'm shitting on every album I listen to... but c'mon... the Pet Shop Boys? Being boring taken to new heights. The one thing they love more than a hero is to see a hero fail...fall... die trying.

Smooooth 80s sounds of the 90s 2/5

I could not get through it - once I got to Only the Wind, which sounded like it was made on a Casio keyboard, I had to stop.

i dont like how he sounds

there's better psb songs

Not the worst but I probably wont listen to this album again unless I am depressed

Slower than their other albums. Enjoyed it at the start with never boring, then it got a bit boring to be honest 2

Theres a couple of enjoyable pet shop boys songs but they are not on this album!

Introspective melancholic pop. It was fine, but I wasn't too fussed with it.

Not much to say about this bore. I award it two ears. One for where the music went in, and one for where it went out. 👂👂

Really enjoyed the music instrumental intro, and at first I thought this would be a pleasant surprise. But as the album continued, I felt that the lyrics and the vocals were just okay. First two songs were decent, next four kind of drug on, and the last four were decent. I can't help but hear Fred Armisen singing some made up song in Documentary Now! when listening to this album. Overall, this is fine as background music but it just isn't anything more than that for me. I wish the ratings were out of 10 because this is a 5/10 to me, but I'll give it 2/5.

It grew on me more than I was expecting, but still never hit any great heights. High two/low three.

i like the Pet Shop Boys, but I cannot underscore enough how unremarkable this album is. Recycled, dated beats with nothing special. Yet another terrible choice by the listmaker!

Apparently it's depressing annoying voice week.

Yes, it’s the Pet Shop Boys alright. A bit more “mature” than their earlier stuff, but neither dance-y enough to get me moving nor interesting enough to move me (or even to make me listen closely, truth be told). Not sure why it’s on the list. 2.5 stars.

It's all terribly tasteful and melancholic and polished and... sorry, just drifted off there for a minute. Why are there three Pet Shop Boys albums on this list? And of those three, this is probably the most soporific. I guess you could understand this as an elegy at the end of the worst of the AIDS crisis, mourning for friends and lovers lost. Apparently, Neil Tennant didn't come out until 1994 (four years after this album). I'm not quite sure how that was a secret... This album really is incredibly well done, and the singles are OK, but the whole thing is really not my bag.

just not for me. i like jealousy best.

Popular music in the 80s and early 90s really sucked huh. Does not belong on this list imo.

It sounds like generic 80's music. The second half of the album is miles better than the first though.

I looked at the tracklist, only to find that "West End Girls" is not on this album. It was only downhill after that.

"Being Boring" is a great way to describe this album.

Another Pet Shop Boys. Joy. The sheer chutzpah of Neil Tennant to record a track called "Being Boring" when his vocal style is so close to monotone. The things about it - the damn thing about it - is that his voice is as close to perfect as it can be for these synths. The synths are great.

It's the second album by Pet Shop Boys in the span of less than a week! And honestly, it's more of the same. There was, apparently, a change of styles between "Very" and "Behaviour", but I feel like there is one, big issue that overshadows the instrumental parts of those albums - and it is Neil Tennant's vocal. As I already explained on the review for "Very", Pet Shop Boys has a really intriguing and interesting music, but listening to the whole album in one sitting is excruciatingly painful. And now I know why. Neil's singing, or rather his style and voice, is very specific. It works perfectly on some of the most known singles, like "Always On My Mind". Their hits, as standalone songs, are really great and timeless. But listening to 15 songs, some without those catchy beats and melodies, but always with the same constant and monotonous voice by Neil is just too much. "Behaviour" is just another example of this. To make things worse, I don't really think there is any outstanding single on this album at all. Every song just mashed into a big pile of puree, and trying to distinguish every little potato is almost impossible. I decided to rate both albums as one, even though it's not possible on this list. I gave 3 stars for "Very", so I think it will be fair to give 2 for "Behaviour". In this case we will have a nice 2,5 stars average, which should perfectly show how I feel about those albums.

Not great. Slow Pet Shop Boys are not the Pet Shop Boys i want to listen to

Reminds me of British food - bland, monotonous, and lacking in any discernible punch or taste

Inte min grej

This record was not as good as their other on this list. The electronic instruments sound hollow in 2022. The songs themselves are pretty good. But they have not aged well.

I find my generousity waning the further I get in to this list. When music from Pet Shop Boys was new, I wasn't sure what to do with it. After listening to a second full album, Behaviour has me convinced that I don't need to listen to an Pet Shop Boys. I knew three of the songs off of this album. "So Hard" is the one track that verges on a potential re-listen, but there are also tracks that I for sure do not want to hear again ("Only the Wind", "My October Sympohony"). By that point in the alubm I felt like I had had enough of Pet Shop Boys' odd electronic synth symphony backing music and hushed semi-spoken lyrics. In the past, I would have rounded up saying "I guess I got through it". Today I am rounding down, admitting that I was done with the album before the album was done playing.

nice sound, just not my thing

Forgot to rate this one after I listened to it some while ago. Couldn't remember a single track; after a relisten I remember why. Nothing here that really spikes my interest.

Not really my thing but I can see why it would be someone's thing.

Familiar with pet shop boys bigger hits? But nothing on this album, was ok but nothing special

Disappointed. I like the voice and the vibe in general, but there is nothing that really stands out positively in this track list and if anything, key parts of it are really sounding dated. Since there are things i know i like by the Pet Shop Boys, i was expecting a positive experience, but ended up being really let down by this album.

When you press the demo button on the keyboard at school

Slap album, echt niet van deze tijd

Being boring is ironically apt

Almost fall asleep while listening to it...zzzzzzzzzz

Not so bad as the other One, but still...

boring as every PTB

No me gusta mucho pet shop boys

A vibe hour, but nothing much I can get into. All a bit overproduced and underwhelming

so 90s but not the good 90s.

Poor effort from the Pet Shop Men.

Not one of their best, Pet Shop Boys by numbers and too many wet ballads.

I mostly enjoyed what Pet Shop Boys I had heard before getting this album. So Hard was the only song I knew prior and maybe its because of this reason thats it the only one I really enjoyed. I was hoping for something more like New Order and was a bit let down. It's not terrible but I don't know that I'd ever want to hear this again.

This was not what I expected the album to sound like given the few pet shop boys songs i know- it was so slooooow. Maybe I was in a bad mood but I couldn't decide if it was interesting or boring tbh. There were some nice moments, and October symphony was a nice break from the sad boi synths, but overall I found this album to be a bit wet.

I do love the pet shop boys, but without the big standout singles, this does tend to merge into the background a little. There are a couple of bits that grab your interest, but it's not one I'll be rushing back to.

I got about six songs in, really not my jam. Overproduced synths and drums sound kind of cheesy. Meh

Never been a fan of the Pet Shop Boys and probably never will be. Listening to most of the album is the most I've listened to them in one sitting and though it was fine, couldn't really keep my attention. Some songs had a nice beat to it and could get into it, but most of the music had a sameness and blah appeal for me. Blah...

Wouldn't listen to again

I'd never heard a full album by Pet Shop Boys and was feeling optimistic going into this one- I thought they were notorious for infectious dance-pop, a late 80's take on disco classics, and a camp sense of humour. "Behaviour" felt different. By all accounts, it's their "time to grow up" album with a more mature attempt at their sound. As a first listen with no investment in their evolution, it just seemed to fall flat. Right from the get go, "Being Boring" takes as its subject the idea of looking back, growing up and reflecting. It's a universal theme with undeniable personal weight for Tennant, but it's very introspective, bordering on self-important. Together with the maudlin "This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave" and "To Face the Truth", one can hear the songs dragging themselves down with their own weight. It's fine to place more focus on the subject matter, but the lyrics here are patchy. Over-baked, in the case of "This Must Be The Place..."'s forced rhymes, and under-baked in the case of "To Face the Truth" ("If you don't believe what I have said; take a look, my eyes are red"). Tennant's vocals are delivered in a soft, hushed tone, occasionally double-tracked in octaves (frustratingly, never in harmony). They're fine, but they're not showstopping by any means. Together, lyrics and vocals are not enough to carry the material, and focus has to turn to the instrumentals. It's interesting listening to this album and distinguishing between synth sounds enjoying a current revival, those which are forgivably of their time, and those which are so dated as to damage the listening experience. In the top group, we have a lot of the drum sounds here. Perhaps often sampled in the years since, they feel like they still would have a place in lo-fi or retro- leaning dance pop. The ethereal pads are timeless and have been a mainstay of electronic music, often used here to add another subtle layer of atmosphere. In the middle are most of the bass sounds: spluttering, bouncing, bubbling... they're determinedly 80's, but often the most addictive part of the track (see "Being Boring"). On the lowest end are the terribly naff orchestra hits which plague and drag down the already interminable "Only the Wind". They're also used in "So Hard" along with an equally dated choir effect, but because the same song holds the album's best chorus, I can get past it. Incidentally, "So Hard" was the lead single and I wasn't surprised to hear it: there's a clear hook, sense of drama and magnitude to it. There's an occasional exception from the synths: the acoustic string section in "My October Symphony" is a pleasant addition to the mix, but it doesn't salvage the song's bland hook. "Jealousy" is a gentle ballad to take us out, with simulated wave effects, and some brass patches coming in for the outro. The song itself is just as po-faced as the rest of the album and doesn't allow itself to be emotional or danceable. "Behaviour" is a deeply flawed effort with little to make me want to revisit it. It doesn't seem to fulfil Pet Shop Boy's reputation for making floor-fillers, but the emotion within it feels detached, and the lyrical quality renders any claim these songs can stake as being mature and cerebral rather flawed.

Not shit, but not god enough. First track title of the album says it all.

The opening song, Being Boring is quintessentially Pet Shop Boys. Suprisingly industrial feel in some of the tracks that synchs well with the synth pop tones. How can You Expect to be Taken Seriously is strangely 80's poppy again with a drumbeat that kind of resembles Sledgehammer. A little too samey for my taste - the songs run together so seamlessly that it is an awful lot of something that's only okay. The goods - Being Boring

Not my favorite

53. Behaviour - Pet Shop Boys 10 tracks. I think this was the PSB's working out what worked and what didn't work. This is the "Didn't work" pile. It's really not good. 2/5

I have an unconscious bias against the Pet Shop Boys - every track sounds the same. Not dull or bad, but i've listened through this album twice now and didn't even notice it was on. Couldn't differentiate between this and any other Pet Shop Boys album.

not my fave. skipped the last few

I like Pet Shop Boys' earlier work and was excited to see Harold Faltermeyer as producer. I'm a big synth wave fan in general, and I normally stick up for this sort of thing, but I just can't get into this one. I find the singing style and lyrics mildly irritating to cringe worthy throughout. And the production is simply too clean for my taste. They claim to have been inspired by Depeche Mode's Violator, which I think is a five star album, but I don't hear any of that album's depth or richness reflected here. There are moments of cheese on this album that I find almost unbearable and I have a huge threshold (and even an appreciation) for cheese (Orchestra Hit!!!).

This is pretty awful. Just not a fan of this pansy-ass style of music. 2 stars.

Never heard this one and I didn’t miss it.

Its interesting, not really my style.

Really not for me.

Ok, nothing special.

Smooth but fairly bland.

Extremely dated sounding, sorry. Don't mean to be such a millenial but way too 80s for my taste. Some good songwriting underneath the production.

Good 80's pop is still not good

Was very hard for me to take seriously as some parts sounded like they were created entirely on an electronic keyboard, though I do understand the intrinsic value of the Pet Shop Boys as corny electronic pop artists. Definitely some "guilty pleasure" type bangers in their discography but not a lot in this album for me.

not for me, sounds too samey and not much exciting for me

Alright, listenable, but just really not my bag. Slow and dreary but not in a way I could appreciate. Not one song stood out. Lyrics seemed quite niche/specific anecdotes about the singers life. 2 /5

I don't get it. They are boring, they do songs about being boring. Always sound the same.

Levyn avausbiisi Being Boring olikin lupaus loppulevystä. Mielenkiinnolla odotin, mitä Pet Shop Boysilla oli megahittien lisäksi tarjottavaa. Tarjottava olikin se illan viimeinen väljähtänyt tuoppi, mikä vastoin kaikkea järkeä pitää silti huitaista alas, vaikka ei tarjoa mitään nautintoa. Ehkä jollain toisella levyllä olisi sitten happy hour meininkejä.

Not for me

Thought I'd like this better but every song sounds so basic. I'd go1.5, 1 felt harsh

I didn't mind a couple of the more uptempo tunes but otherwise, this is very very ballad-driven synth pop, not my cup of tea, which is too bad because I think the song-writing is okay and I like Neil Tennant's voice. After this, I went back to listen to "Let's Make Lots of Money".

Meh...

'Being Boring' hält was er verspicht.

Not too shabby, quite listenable.

Sounds like so much elevator music to me.

Songs all too similar

Lacks the punch of some classic pet shop boys. Very melodic and mellow synth with restrained vicals

It was a slow synth ballad album. Not my style

90s synth pop. Yuck

Ain't for me

Meandering late 80s filler (I know, it was released in 1990!). Didn't do anything for me. Some of the synth sounds reminded me too much of the film Biggles Adventures in Time.

misses the spice from the more electronic hits and misses the feel of a good song with content.

So boring I have uo

Being Boring is a super boring song. This music has not aged well. 1/5.

not for me

If there's anything this project has taught me, it's that the English have just as much skill and taste in music as they do in food.

Oh man, that is lame. Lamer than lame. I couldn't stand the Pet Shop Boys from the very beginning. I’ve always found Neil Tennant’s voice and singing style to be utterly lifeless—perhaps that was the intention, I don't know. The lyrics were a rhyming disaster that, as a non-native English speaker, I found absolutely atrocious. You couldn't escape these songs; they were shoved down your throat everywhere—a nightmarish, inescapable, endless loop. I listened to *Behavior* right up until the middle of the final track, but that was it—I couldn't go on. That last rhyme... I figure if I don't need therapy now, when will I ever? Absolutely overrated—perhaps understandable within the context of the era, but definitely not my cup of tea. Thanks! Minus stars—so, back to giving it just the one.

this album did a great job of “Being Boring” if you see what I did there.

I didn’t enjoy it. Had to skip a couple because they were so bad.

Booooring. I have no love for pet shop boys. No idea what's so special about this album

Ugh. The voice is just monotonous

not on tidal

Previously unknown. 😴

I think I'd rather have sex with Motley Crue without a condom than listen to this album again.

Eesh. This one was hard to listen to. Chock full of 80s keyboards, uninspired lyrics and a tone that just makes me want to hit skip on every song until it's done. No thanks.

Catastrophique. Top : How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously Flop : To Face the Truth

✔️

All the things but no effect

Listening to this reminded me why I’ve never been a huge fan of the boys. Every song sounds the same.

love old school boys . . . .

I didnt care for this. It’s boring to me. It was better than the other pet shop boys album I listened to but not by much. This whole album I thought it sounded kind of like Depeche Mode but I don’t know a lot of their stuff so I wasn’t sure. The album just ended and the next song up was from Depeche Mode and I was right.

Gawd this is horrible.

Shitty early nineties pop

did not like this at all. maybe i dont like synth pop in general.

Ugh! Another Pet Shop Boys album. Just as bad as the others. The only good thing is I'm done with them in this journey and I will actively avoid them going forward.

God I fucking hate the Pet Shop Boys

Not a fan.

Lots of skips. Early 90s death of 80s pop. Why is this the selected Pet Shop Boys album? 1/5

Whispery vocals and drum machines.

Not for me

HORRIBLE

Got pretty bad synth pretty early. Was holding out hope that This Must Be The Place I Waited To Leave was going to be a Talking Heads cover. It is not. It's just Depeche Mode without the fun, dark, edge. Lame. I don't like the Pet Shop Boys!

Soft man synthy dance crap

Another pet shop boys. Don't get me wrong Neil has some nice tunes, but I just don't enjoy listening to this. Last time we had one someone said it was perfect 80s pop music, that maybe true, but then I absolutely hate 80s pop sounds and production. The generic electronic drum sounds, the crass bass sounds, the amateur sounding synths, the awful orchestra hits. Growing up in the 90s everyone I knew loved 80s nights and those sounds used to grate on me then and the pet shop boys take it to a whole other extreme. I wondered if I'd like it with some real instruments and I realised that there some heavy similarities in the feel of the tracks to the lightening seeds, who I enjoy but find fairly un-confrontational. Hopefully there are more lightening seeds than pet shop boys left to listen to.

Oh good, I thought, I like the PSB Then I listened to it What a boring album None of the things I usually associate with a PSB song and just a lot of time circling the drain Genuinely one of the most disappointing listens on this list

Every once in a while, I encounter a vocalist that I find difficult to listen to. Neil Tennant is that vocalist. West End Girls is one of my least favorite songs of all time, and this album was a lot more of his "unique" pronunciations that I've read are completely natural, but I find them off-putting all the same. When you rhyme "shay-keeng" (shaking) with "mis-tay-kahn" (mistaken), I hear pretension. What irks me is that these *would* be close to rhyming if they were pronounced similarly. If that's your deal, then use different words so that the music sounds right. This was a big deal in the 90's HIV crisis, and a lot of folks suffering might have found comfort in the themes that he was speaking to throughout the album. I see why it's on the list, and I wouldn't want to take that away from anyone else. Having not lived through that experience and found an emotional connection with this band or its music, I do not derive any nostalgia or subjective enjoyment from listening. I gave it two tries and got to a point where the second felt less than unbearable, but I think I prefer the more aggressive synth approach of Depeche Mode vs. this introspective, dreary style.

I usually like The Pet Shop Boys (or at least I really like their It’s a Sin song from another album), but this was boring for me.

I can't bear 80s synth pop. Get some proper drums.

Dreadfully boring.

Kiddie pool levels of depth. I too had a keyboard back then that had the impact sound effect and I liked to overplay it just like these guys. The difference was I was 10.

Awful boring

Yawn! Not a fan of this Album. More into what was played on the radio in the early 80s. Suberbia, west end and it’s a sin.

Fuck sake I can't believe these mind numbing tracks are over 5 minutes long. 80s synthesizer drum machine slop. Give me free jazz any day over this

not really my thing

Can't connect

Not their best album

Honestly, this album did nothing for me. I listened to it yesterday and I can't remember a single lyric or melody.

Don't get it... at all... weak vocals over boring beats... are the lyrics clever? no idea... can't get past the music... is it sort of pleasant? i guess... i actually know people who love these guys and buy all their records... all i can hear when they play is "West End Girls" over and over again... it baffles me that these guys had a career past that song... who did these guys pay to be on this list? this is just a travesty... lol... the first song is even called "Being Boring"... obviously autobiographical... lol... it may be a UK/Euro thing... but, this "music" is antiseptic... soulless... does it make you tap your foot? a bit... would i rather listen to this than Death Metal? yes... one star just for that...

Elevator music

Sometimes a bit cringe but otherwise great

More shit pop boys? No thanks

nope - not for me, after 2 songs I'd had enough, looping electro-crap

Are there way too many Pet Shop Boys albums on this list? Absolutely. Did I dislike this one as much as the others? Also yes.

Why? What’s the point of a Pet Shop Boys album without West Side Boys? Really, what’s the point of one with it, but even more so without. Never cared for these guys in the eighties, apparently time has not softened that.

Every song sounds the same? Feels like the type of music that you have to be on ecstasy at a rave to really enjoy. Hard to believe we're considering these guys and Paul McCartney on the same list. "This Must Be the Place I Waited Years to Leave" kind of sums it up for me because I feel like I waited years for this album to be over. This is not for me.

Boring. And his voice bothered me.

Doesn’t even have West End Girls on it. Not an album I can say I enjoyed. Jealousy is probably the one I’d rate highest

This is the sort of euro-trash bastardization of new wave that really turns me off. It’s weak and bubbly and entirely unenjoyable to my ears. There’s no real unifying theme or sound here, it’s just every stereotypical late 80’s synth sound crammed into two hours of bullshit. I can’t believe I listened to the entire thing, including the remixes at the end. May I never listen to it again. 1*.

I wouldn’t mind a world where I never have to hear the Pet Shop Boys’ music ever again. In fact, can we arrange that please? I’ve never understood it.

I wish that I had not spent 49 minutes listening to this.

Boring. Didn't like it.

Garbage

Never liked the PSBs much, or just thisbera of music generally! I tried, but wasn't converted

OK that was boring as fuck

This shouldn't be on the list. It's great background music, but I honestly forgot it was playing for a bit. Just seems like a basic album. 1.

Really not into the Pet Shop Boys [woof]. This one was tough to get through - I honestly do not know how music like this is still a thing. Help. I kind of want to go back and give Rufus more stars after having to deal with this lollll.

Pretty much the same song played 10 times.

The first song describes this album oerfectly

not my thing

Started off dull and stayed the same. No redeeming qualities at all. Why did they stop making that dramatic music? I hope they credited casio.

Boring

Oh dear. That's terrible.

Starts out promising enough, but soon blends together becoming monotonous and dated.

Not my thing

Synth pop.

Couldn't finish. Don't like his voice, and this is a dull dull album

Not for me. 1/5

Most overrated band ever!

As a youth in the 80's I liked that era's PSBs although I'd be hard pressed to put them on any top album list. Today I'm confronted with this ridiculous collection of synth pop drivel. I imagine a future civilization encountering this Top 1001 album list and playing Behaviour. At that point I'd be ashamed of our human race. This is NOT good music, song writing, lyrics, production, or entertainment.

This is another one that should be in the 1001 albums not to listen to before you die.

I don't like this. I'll listen to it, but 45 seconds in on the first song, I find no pleasure in this.

Unfortunately I really didn't like this at all.

People always tell me I like elevator music, but I can't find much that I enjoy about this one. DNF.

Neil Tennant is simply a non starter for me

Never liked pet shop boys

Unfinishable. Truly the worst. Not one good song.

The first track titled Being Boring really sets a tone for this album because it sure was boring.

Imagine liking this. Ha ha JK nobody likes this. So dumb and so bad. I do not like this record. This album is actually gross. It’s not even mildly interesting. Best song: none of them Worst song: all of them

I don’t know if it’s that we just listened to a pet shop boys album, but this one was not as good as Actually. Ironically the least boring track: Being Boring

Cheesy electronic pop music but some interesting effects

This style of music does absolutely nothing for me. All the songs pretty much sound like an NPR host trying to sing over telephone hold or elevator music.

Found this to be a pretty depressing album.

All their music seems to sound the same. After 30 secs I'm already tired of it, not a fan.

Not my thing.

I just don't 'get' PSB. This is really bland. I get that they are trying to be 'knowing' but the lyrics don't draw me in at all. Gave up 4 tracks in. Not for me.

Completely non descrip

Particolare

Not a single radio single from a pet shop boys album in 1990? 1990 was wasted by the pet shop boys.

Lacking any of the fun or joy of some of their better stuff

fucking yawn.

Bland, too gleeful, sucky vocals. 2 out of 10

So mellow

The PSB album with no hits on it

This album is so bad and cheesy. It came out in 1990 and still uses the most basic electric piano tones and oontz oontz rhythms. Why is this on this list? Hot can of waste. This album was so close to being fun, but they hammed every moment of it with their tacky approach to music creation. This tried soooooo hard to be commercial dogshit. And it suceeded. Down to the damn auto strings on this casio keyboard, fuck, it is bad.

27-Oct-2022 TLDR; Aged like milk, would not listen to this one again. I went into this album knowing Pet Shop Boys' biggest singles only. I've often heard good things about them and based on the scene and era they fit into, I vaguely assumed I would like them, but never got around to listening to them. Surprisingly, I had a fairly visceral negative reaction to this album. I thought the first song was ok, but the songs immediately after had me cringing and squirming. I thought the second half might turn it around with the passable "My October Symphony", but alas, no. I could only listen to half of "Nervously", and I'm not usually a skipper. After that, I was dying for the album to end. Its hard to put my finger on what exactly I dislike about the album (because there were so many things), but the vocals are definitely a big part of it. I like Neil Tennant's singing in small doses, but on this I found his whiny cabaret style grating. The lyrics are also quite trite in places. Musically, I found this very repetitive, with similar drum and bass beats the whole way through. It's also very dated overall, and not in a fun nostalgic way, since I have no emotional connection to any of these songs. I like a lot of similar music from this era (New Order, Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, etc.), but this sounds like a sort of death knell of 80s synthetic pop to me now. Its interesting to read that this was heavily influenced by "Violator". I love that album and don't find it dated at all. I see some similarities I suppose, but this is definitely "Violator-lite", if anything.

No. English pop. Sounds ugly.

What a pulp. Hard to listen to. I love synths, but even they are annoying me in some of the songs. In the end, some song were more bearable, but enjoying any of them I hardly did.

Oh boy. More synth-pop. Mellow, bland, poor lyrics, too-quiet voices. Apt that the first song is titled 'Being Boring.' This just isn't for me. Couldn't make it through a full three songs.

Absolutely not.

not for me

* I hated every second of this

SO. I clearly have at least one Pet Shop Boys song that I know, and yet I've never listened to any others. That voice is not one to spend much time with. How Can You Be... was the moment at which I knew PSB were not going to be a band for me. Went downhill from there. How was *this* the "must listen to" album???? It was getting annoying at the end (the voice, the balladry, the lack of pop hits...). I'm between a one and two stars, so it's gonna be one. :(

total crap

Terrible 80s music

Mediocre, all of the songs are pretty forgettable, not my style.

Ikinä en oo ymmärtäny. En tainnut edes skippailemalla päästä loppuun

Dreadful.

I wanted this album to end so badly. Those cheesy ass orchestra hits sound terrible. I actually enjoyed End of the World, though i assumed that it was the final song on the album and was pissed to see another.

I don't understand why this website thinks Pet Shop Boys is so great.

Liker ikke elektro-sounden. Ville ikke høre mer enn første sangen

1 leider boring

I enjoyed Being Boring, How Can You Expect to Be Taken Seriously & Nervously. This album is not one I would have ever gone out of my way to listen to and it was very 90s inspired, reminding me of Vogue by Madonna on almost every track... it was kind of repetitive too.
