Reviews (page 8 of 8)

not for me

None of the last 3 albums have been in my book :(

Not my jam

Women shouldn't sing

No clue why this was included as an essential album

Not sure why I would need to hear this before I die? Boring.

A dreamy, psychedelic blend of synth-pop and krautrock, built on motorik rhythms, swirling electronics, and ethereal, hypnotic vocals all of it simply annoying me to want to quit early.

Ok vocals. Bland synthesized music. Blah.

и вот это дримпоп говно делает взрослая женщина

Kind of excited to listen to something I had never even heard of. Then I got into this limp dream-techno Stereolab wannabe record and all that excitement went straight away.

literally fell asleep listening to this

there's nothing wrong with the album perse (besides it being pretty boring), but it doesn't belong on the list.

Fuck rating albums. Just let me listen.

What makes this album distinctive? Nothing really. A wisp of an album

Not for me. Nothing stood out.

In some parts it sounded like a reincarnation of Yes. With a fraction of crossover to Fleetwood Mac. But without the pazazz. Shame.

Not for me

Frankly, I don't think this belongs on this list. There are some interesting ideas, but the execution is strange- a lot of the instruments feel like first takes riddled with (deliberate?) mistakes.a lot of out of key notes. Might be artistic license, or playing in the studio, thinking it sounds cool, and leaving it. Voice is just OK, nothing special in home production 2017. Some of the synth arrangements are pretty cool. There just doesn't seem to be anything critically or commercially significant here. Just feels like a home album a producer/songwriter put together that feels more demo than final product. Some aspects of unifying themes but feels pretty weak all in. I think its an ok album but I wouldn't revisit it. If I thought it were justified for the list, I'd give it a 2.5, but I don't so it's a 1.5. Not a 1 because ther is a decent album underneath. 1.5, I round down. 1=Crap that shouldn't be here 2=I didn't like it but get why it's here 3=I thought it was ok or even like it, get why it's here, but won't revisit 4=I like it, will revisit 5=This is some of the best music I've ever heard and will continue listening to it

If each part of her instrumentations were performed separately, I might enjoy them - especially the electronic saw. However, putting all the bits together it becomes music to Floss to and forget - if you can fade out her singing.

not my vibe. Sounds like Lana Del Rey's music world

Wow, il y a quelque chose qui me gosse au plus haut point sur chacune des 3 premières tracks, une sorte d'haute fréquence qui me rend violent comme dans Kingsman. C'est vraiment terrible, allez pour un 1 étoile, ça fait un bail!

Cheap Psychedelic Electronica from bargain Joni Mitchell.

Is this the newest album on this list? It’s got to be so far, at least. Why does it sound like this was written and produced in the mid 2000’s?! There’s some pretty impressive vocals on display here, but that skill is almost constantly overshadowed by cheesy synths and boring baselines. Every drum beat sounds like a generic preset that came with the 2010 version of fruityloops. The songwriting is generic and uninspiring, lyrically and musically. I guess this would be good background music for a telecommunications conference? Not for me. 1*

not sure really why this chick is on here.. meh.. left no mark with me

It's not my music

This is awful. The bull-case is it's watered-down breathy 80s synth, a la Kate Bush, with fewer real instruments and more uninhibited self-indulgence. But on top of that, it's just frequently unpleasant. "Loops in the Secret Society" is just dissonant crap, and not in the clever way. The back half is almost unlistenable. Even the apparently well-received songs, like "The Architect" and the title track, are a boring drone. Straight pass.

Started out very Hawkwindesque, I thought this could be rather good. unfortunately it sort of drifted into ambient mush. quite disappointing really. Not as good as many of the 2's I've given lately, so can only be a 1.

Album 524 of 1001 Jane Weaver - Modern Kosmology (2017) Rating : 1 / 5 This wasn't appealing at all. One track talking about "we are turning to dust" caught my attention but it didn't last.

This would have been bad in the 80s, it's atrocious now.

Modern, 8-bit, couldn't find a song I wanted to hear all the way through. 1/5

This was really an awful listen from start to finish. I can’t stand these kinds of vocals. I think she was aiming for ethereal? New-agey imagery in the lyrics, fluffy high-pitch vocals, unpleasant electronic background music. Couldn’t end soon enough.

I found myself a couple of times during my listen losing focus, thinking to myself ‘god, how long has this song been going on for? It’s been ages’ then looking it up and seeing it had only been 3 minutes. It’s all buoyed by similar Motorik inspired drum beats and synth sounds, to the extent that I really had trouble differentiating tracks, and it didn’t help that a lot of them flow into each other. It’s pleasant enough. But, based on the painfully self-penned and hilariously pretentious Spotify Bio review of her latest album, I have to believe that Jane Weaver really believes that she’s pushing music into some obscure new direction. “The foundations of Weaver’s sound are still evident – lush motorik drums, pulsating bass, custom modded synths and exotic fuzz pedals – but the stream is awash with scrabble piece poetry and Letraset lullabies leading to lush escapism, the free abandon that you’d associate with free jazz and the avant-garde. This is the poetic vision of one woman only, turning a new chapter, erecting a new scaffold, drawing empty landscapes as we slowly watch new colours, codes shapes and languages fill the frame. Produced by John Parish (PJ Harvey, Dry Cleaning), this is evidently a new awakening. From a long-standing pillar of the UK’s independent pop landscape, this is Jane Weaver’s first album since her unanimously lorded top 40 album ‘Flock’ and one-off single ‘Oblique Fantasy‘“ I mean, my god. The smugness is palpable, and it’s made even better by the fact that she uses the wrong ‘lorded’ to describe her previous album, so that rather than talking about how acclaimed it was, she’s instead describing how she rubbed the fact that she had an album that reached a whopping *reads notes* 24 on the UK album charts into peoples faces. Am I an asshole for wanting to give this a bad rating, based on a review of another album that I haven’t listened to? As I said before, Modern Kosmology is perfectly serviceable as Pop for middle aged people, but it isn’t Avant-Garde or groundbreaking in the slightest. I went and listened to that new album, and they sound exactly the same. Fuck it. As somebody who is also quite pretentious at times, that level of pretention is off-putting

Not a fan

Not for me. 1/5

At least it isn't too electronic. Then comes track 3. This is an awful genre.

Ugh, terrible

Why is this on here?

too electronic for me

Did not like this one. Ended up skipping a number of the songs.

Mix ligt niet zo goed Vocals nog niet overtuigd Follow up track sterker, goede build up gitaren Psych rock vind ik altijd leuk, maar er zijn er betere dan dit... Niet slecht, maar past gewoon niet in de 1001 beste albums

I will never understand the appeal of this kind of music. Repetitive, whiny, whispy. Boring!

Hunh. What was that? I’m confused at this album’s inclusion. It’s not bad. It’s just not distinctive or amazing.

No thank you. The synthesizers were too much.

My listening notes just say: trying to be an edgier version of Enya? And somehow less cool.

What... why is this here?

Not my music

Tietoisuudestamme poistunut sana "hipsteri" palaa mieleen. Valitettavasti koukut pitäytyvät poissa.

Not my cup of tea

This record should be called, "Drones in the round". And that's not a compliment. This record doesn't even have a wiki page. Which shouldn't be a requirement for the list, but in this case, it should be an indication that the record shouldn't be on the list. It's a one idea, flat record not worth your time. Then randomly in the last couple of songs, some dude talks. Rambling unoriginal cat away Tool lyrics as though they are super deep. Jesus it's so bad.

Bland, unclear how this made the list.

some songs are okay, some are horrible, I like how some songs continue each other, I hate the vocals but like the instruments and style for some songs, the voice ruins everything for me, my favorite song was valley. It was hard to listen to this album 2.5/10. 1 star

2/5 Did not vibe with this one

It’s pleasant enough but I have no idea why it’s on this list. A bit of a by numbers electronica pop album. Nice voice, the odd good tune but there’s probably a reason why this has never come up before in my life. It’s Ok, just that.

Why is this even on the list? There is nothing remarkable about any of it – especially in a 2017 release.

Bit shit

Me encantó la tapa, el disco me aburrió.

No. Who chooses these mediocre things?

Didn’t do it for me at all. She has a great voice but often stayed monotone and didn’t vary it much

Tim music

pure garbage.... who's her target public anyway? Middle-aged women that believe in astrology?

This is like someone singing at a coffee house and they just aren't very good. 3/10.

Iets te kosmisch

Strange dreamy music that feels like I’ve smoked too much weed in an unfamiliar place with strange people, but in a not completely terrifying way...

Copia barata de los 80

Hypnotic. Did I just get mkultra'd? Listenable, but too much trance rhythm.
