Very forgettable. For an album that's so up to date it doesn't really do anything that I can see merits its place on this list

This project is great when it throws up surprising and contemporary albums that I’ve never heard of. For that experience, I am eager and grateful. However, on seeing this pop up, my first reactions were: Jane Weaver – who? Modern Kosmology (with a K) – why? Is it really that original and different enough to be on this list? I’m afraid I was underwhelmed.

A record that doesn’t excite me, it’s a bit too bland for my taste and the vocals didn’t really grab me. 2,5 out of 10

Pleasant enough, but a little boring.

When you think about how this list also has records from artists like Queen, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Zeppelin, Aretha, and The Beatles, it makes even less sense that Jane Weaver is on here as well. This album is so... normal. It's a 2017, indie pop, singer-songwriter record. Maybe, instead of this record we could've had I dunno, Kendrick Lamar's DAMN., SZA's Ctrl, or Paramore's After Laughter?

Not quite my thing. Had issue where first track was on some weird loop for about 15 mins which didn't help but was not great.

I'm just not a big fan of that electronic sound... so repetitive and artificial sounding. Not for me.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I like the idea of a modern psychedelic / electronic sounding record but aside from some cool synth textures it sounded kind of boring. After the first couple songs I was waiting for it to go somewhere else or have a song that grabbed my attention a bit better. Sounded kind of safe and not adventurous at all really for this style. Not a lot of dynamics in her voice or in the arrangements. I hated the noodley guitars the couple times they popped up. 2 I guess? It was alright but not really sure why this the one of two albums from the past ten years on the list so far?

Just finished listening and I can’t recall a single melody, or really anything remotely interesting about this record. The drums and synth pads and sequencers are so relentlessly mind numbing.

Meh. Stuck between easy listening and a trying to follow her voice. Feel like it would be better if she picked a lane.

Every song on this album had potential. But for whatever reason, they found a way to turn each song into an unpleasant experience. Loops in the Secret Society, Valley, and The Lightning Back were the least bad. But that isn’t saying much. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - I enjoyed listening to it but wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.

A couple albums behind.... Can't say this was something I disliked, but nothing really made me want to play again or upload into my library. Felt like it was close, but never got over the hump. I'd still give a 2. Just OK

2.5 I really wish I had more to say. It’s a slightly above average dream pop album and it’s fine. There were times where the wubby music was really cool but the vocals were such a turn off. The effects made it impossible to hear what she was singing about but the mix was too vocal forward. Could’ve been a lot better. Favorites: The Architect, The Lightning Back

Why the hell is this on the list? My issues with Rob Dimery are really highlighted by his modern additions to his list. I feel like I could make the most dogshit Britpop-Electronica crossover album of all time and he would add it to the list without a second thought. The Search For Everything - John Mayer The Nashville Sound - Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit Capacity - Big Thief DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar Stranger in the Alps - Phoebe Bridgers Those are just 5 albums released in 2017 that aren't included on this list but absolutely deserve a spot on this list over another mediocre unheard of album. I could probably include more from that year but my point stand with those 5. I did not hate the album so I am being a little harsh. I would listen to any of those 5 albums 10 times each before I replayed this one though. Its a 2 star album because I'm pissed about the disrespected albums, but it might deserve a 3 if I was in a different mood.

meh, It was ok, but not really my thing.

I got really excited for a new discovery from the opening track, but my opinion of this record kept drifting down as I listened to it. The style, instrumentation, and feel should be right in my personal wheelhouse. The drumming in particular is pretty great in spots, and that goes a long way for me. Unfortunately, I just felt that the record never rose above that promise. If it only had a little better dynamics within the songs, development over the course of the album, lyrical substance or style, or vocal performance, I could have been hooked. That's not to say it's a bad record, just that I needed it to have one of those things to give it enough shine to be special. I listened twice, but I don't think I'd ever listen again. I'm sure others could describe it better, and I don't know the context of this artist or album at all, but it's a kind of mellow modern psych/indie rock with female vocals. The lyrical content, as the title suggests, is borderline metaphysical. It seems to be about tapping into a oneness with other people and the universe, finding a hidden truth, ignoring noise. It was fine, but just a little hollow--kind of like a boring person describing a dream or an acid trip that was life-changing for them. Hard to figure how this album could be seen as essential. There are plenty of albums on this list that I absolutely hate, but I have to admit are important in one way or another. This kind of feels like those albums that end up on a bunch of year end lists, and then 3 years later they're utterly forgotten.

Very good at setting a mood but I didn't find the songs too enjoyable on an individual basis.

Pretty wild, but not a “fun” listen.

It's ok, a bit arty and experimental for a 2017 album meaning they're deliberately being as arty and twee as possible. Aimed squarely at those with coloured hair who think that makes them interesting.

This was kinda cool and trippy I guess. It wasn’t bad and probably deserves a little better than a 2 but…I messed up my ratings at the beginning. It’s nowhere near as good as licensed to ill or never mind the bollocks which I gave 3s so I’m gonna have to start getting stingy. @1001albumsgenerator.com give me decimals damnit

I find it hard to believe that an album without a Wikipedia page is something that I MUST listen to before I die. Especially when it's as bland as this.

Interesting album. Nice vocals and synth goodness. It's also the newest album I've been given so far. Unsure on its inclusion in 1001 Albums as it's pretty fresh, it must have reviewed well on release. H>A>K was my favourite off the record. I don't think it holds up against other records I've placed in 3/4 so its a 2/5 for me.

Too ethereal for me. The tones were pretty cool but I feel like it should have built up more energy but always stayed pretty passive and mellow.

I've liked her earlier music, but this album just sounds like she wants to be Barbara Morgenstern. I think I'd rather just listen to Barbara Morgenstern. Too much krautrock.

Modern Kosmology is an apt title. It was a bit like reading a horoscope page on Facebook written by your aunt. I’m sure it is appealing to some but I did not connect to it at all.

I imagine this is what being able to breathe under water sounds like. And breathing underwater is low on my wish list.

The production sounds great and the music is pleasant, but it is super krauted-out and all sounds the same after just a few songs. I'd give it another half star if I could.

Woof. This was pretty bad. Yet, I somehow don't feel like it deserves a 1. Maybe it does. It sounds like music you'd hear in a vegan grocery store or some establishment that sells crystals and incense and other hippie shit. Yet it didn't annoy me enough to warrant a 1. I guess I'm just feeling nice today. Seriously though, this is pretty bad. Stay away.

Weren’t any parts I actively disliked, but a lot of it just didn’t musically do it for me. Cool vibes, but the music itself is quite simple and uninteresting to me, and repetitive.

Krautig wie Stereolab/Broadcast, Stimme wie Stereolab, halt..schnell mal googlen, neee, doch nicht ...aber gewusst habe ich auch nicht, das die Stimme Stereolabs von einer gewissen Lætitia Sadier stammt, könnten es doch so gut wie eindeutig Jane Weaver sein. Womit wir schonmal beim `Problem wären: es ist 2017 und es hört sich an wie 1996. Dagegen ist per se nichts einzuwenden, aber wenn es sich dann wirklich 1:1 danach anhört eine B-Seiten Compilation oder ein Lost Album von Stereolab zu hören, dann setzt jemand die "Nummer-Sicher" richtig gut um, was im Endeffekt einfach nur schlecht endet; was soll diese Spitting-Image-Mimikry? Selbst Bands nach NEU! klangen niemals so, dass man dachte: "Oh! ein Album von NEU!, das ich nicht kenne!?" und DAS will für NEU! schon wass heissen - für Jane Weaver übrigens auch... idiotische 1+1=2.0

Decent melody and production. Entrancing. But the vocals and lyrics are shallow and unenthusiastic.

A poppy psychedelic indie album. A unique and creative listen but doesn’t really cut it for me. The instrumentals are there but I never really enjoyed it. 3.8/10

I'm not really sure about this album, I#m not sure what it's doing or how it's making me feel. It is quite interesting but interestingness alone does not make for good enjoyable music. It appears to take itself a little too seriously.

The top review of this album on here points out that it doesn't have a wiki page. 4 years later this is still true! In fact on the wiki entry for Jane Weaver, there is exactly ONE SENTENCE about this album. Hardly seems like must-listen. As for the music itself, it's uninteresting electro-pop and groups like the xx did this better. I wonder if this one stays on the updated list when it comes out in October.

While this might be critically acclaimed for mixing cosmic electronica and pop and krautrock, it does none of them excellently and gives us a mishmash of boring. If you're going to mix genres, be outstanding at it, not bland. Go home, Jane.

This started off really well with some drumming, settled down for a decent listen, then that awful, high pitched irritating annoying voice. It grated from the first note and gradually got into every nerve, I had to turn it off before I killed something. Horrendous album

This album had some moments, but overall it was a pretty terrible slog of boring.

At first I thought, “This is ok”. Then I heard basically the same song over and over and I became bored.

Kinda mitski y but not in the vital ways, more just delicate waifish voice way. Not loving anyway, 2017 very modern and I much prefer other stuff

It's nice enough but not worthy of list

Bra, men langt ifra essensielt. Synes kuratorene har en tendens til å plukke 2010-musikken som er mest derivativ. Dette er Stereolab uten edge. Jeg liker det fordi jeg elsker Sterolab og kraut, men jeg klarer ikke å høre noe særpreg her. Etter de første tre sporene får pipa en litt annen tone. Slow Motion er så langdryg og intetsigende at jeg holder på å gå i dørken. Låta etter høres ut som en miks av Stereolab og VU som etter hvert glir inn i et LCD Soundsystem-parti med en vokal som ikke henger sammen med noen av delene. Jeg kjenner jeg begynner å bli litt irritert, Er vi ferdig snart? Spor seks sier liksom: jeg har oppdaget et skikkelig kult band altså, jeg tror ikke dere har hørt om det: Kraftwerk. Jeg begynner å trigges litt av vokalen. Jeg tror ikke det er noe galt med den, men den mesher ikke med musikken. Nå orker jeg snart ikke mer. Jeg tar tilbake det jeg sa tidligere: liker ikke!

I don’t know what Kosmology is about, I would know what Cosmology is, however, that is a little too complicated and can’t be explained in 1 album… Kosmology, on the other hand, is Greek for shit music that should not be listened to. Thank you Mr Dimery for again making me wonder who is paying you to include these absolute turds of albums on a list that, according to you, one must hear before you die… well, die already, please, so we don’t have to listen to this kind of crap again. Hated it… in case that was not obvious. 1*

Super weird. Not a fan at all. Too many sounds that seem to come from the sound effects section of the keyboard. 2/10.

What makes this album distinctive? Nothing really. A wisp of an album

In some parts it sounded like a reincarnation of Yes. With a fraction of crossover to Fleetwood Mac. But without the pazazz. Shame.

Frankly, I don't think this belongs on this list. There are some interesting ideas, but the execution is strange- a lot of the instruments feel like first takes riddled with (deliberate?) mistakes.a lot of out of key notes. Might be artistic license, or playing in the studio, thinking it sounds cool, and leaving it. Voice is just OK, nothing special in home production 2017. Some of the synth arrangements are pretty cool. There just doesn't seem to be anything critically or commercially significant here. Just feels like a home album a producer/songwriter put together that feels more demo than final product. Some aspects of unifying themes but feels pretty weak all in. I think its an ok album but I wouldn't revisit it. If I thought it were justified for the list, I'd give it a 2.5, but I don't so it's a 1.5. Not a 1 because ther is a decent album underneath. 1.5, I round down. 1=Crap that shouldn't be here 2=I didn't like it but get why it's here 3=I thought it was ok or even like it, get why it's here, but won't revisit 4=I like it, will revisit 5=This is some of the best music I've ever heard and will continue listening to it

If each part of her instrumentations were performed separately, I might enjoy them - especially the electronic saw. However, putting all the bits together it becomes music to Floss to and forget - if you can fade out her singing.

Is this the newest album on this list? It’s got to be so far, at least. Why does it sound like this was written and produced in the mid 2000’s?! There’s some pretty impressive vocals on display here, but that skill is almost constantly overshadowed by cheesy synths and boring baselines. Every drum beat sounds like a generic preset that came with the 2010 version of fruityloops. The songwriting is generic and uninspiring, lyrically and musically. I guess this would be good background music for a telecommunications conference? Not for me. 1*

This is awful. The bull-case is it's watered-down breathy 80s synth, a la Kate Bush, with fewer real instruments and more uninhibited self-indulgence. But on top of that, it's just frequently unpleasant. "Loops in the Secret Society" is just dissonant crap, and not in the clever way. The back half is almost unlistenable. Even the apparently well-received songs, like "The Architect" and the title track, are a boring drone. Straight pass.

Started out very Hawkwindesque, I thought this could be rather good. unfortunately it sort of drifted into ambient mush. quite disappointing really. Not as good as many of the 2's I've given lately, so can only be a 1.

This was really an awful listen from start to finish. I can’t stand these kinds of vocals. I think she was aiming for ethereal? New-agey imagery in the lyrics, fluffy high-pitch vocals, unpleasant electronic background music. Couldn’t end soon enough.

This record should be called, "Drones in the round". And that's not a compliment. This record doesn't even have a wiki page. Which shouldn't be a requirement for the list, but in this case, it should be an indication that the record shouldn't be on the list. It's a one idea, flat record not worth your time. Then randomly in the last couple of songs, some dude talks. Rambling unoriginal cat away Tool lyrics as though they are super deep. Jesus it's so bad.
