Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Hard listening, the album is OK, but not my style and more than a little annoying. There are better albums in the genre.

It's cool, but I don't know why it's on this list.

Ugh. My best guess is that the critic that placed this album on the list was involved in an affair with the artist that clouded his or her judgment.

Meh, nothing to move the needle here.

Very unremarkable

#669. Now I've never been in an iPhone store, so I'll never know for sure, but this has the vibes of something I'd guess would be playing in an iPhone store. 2/5: a bit shit

Floaty electronic music. Not my thing.

1001 albums that are mediocre listens before you die.

Super weak sauce. Didn’t excite or interest me at all.

This was just fine. Average. 3.1/10

Nice electronic beats and alternative vibe. A bit dream poppy.

More ethereal floaty dreamy sounds. Eh, I'll pass. Not sure if it gets better in the later tracks, or I just don't care as much anymore. Wasn't actively annoying, but nothing much interesting either. Best song: Valley

The first song sucked but it got better and then in the second half crashed again. Her voice kinda annoyed me and the music wasn’t all that interesting to me

Started off ok then slowly devolved into just noise. The vocals is too "wispy" but the beat is good in some songs. Favourite Song: I Wish

Meh, it's not my thing.

I'm not sure this needs to be on the list. I didn't dislike it but I wasn't blown away. It was vaguely hippie chick but with synthesizers. It was wallpaper music.

bastante cósmico y espiritual. le doy 4/10

Absolutely baffled as to why this is on here Best Song: Did you See Butterflies Rating: 3/10 (Irritating) Stars: 2/5

Literally Who Tier artist (and I don't mean The Who). H>A>K and The Architect are fine, the rest is boring slop. The production is okay at points, and the vocals are consistently average. The guitar work on Loops In The Secret Society could have been performed in the studio by a primary school music class. This came out in 2017, it's astounding that the authors/critics involved in this list felt the need to include it. This album influenced nobody.

It took a few listens for this one to properly stick, there are a couple of standout tracks here but this isn't something I could see myself returning to. There are parts of this that remind me of Wolf Alice, which made me wonder why they aren't on here. The great transition between the opening track and Did You See Butterflies seems to be a once-off production flourish, which is disappointing. It's a well-made album and I did enjoy this but unfortunately it's also forgettable and I'd much rather listen to Wolf Alice. Highlights: H>A>K, The Lightning Back, Valley

Didn't mind it, a bit dreamy though. I think I prefer Flock as an album. High 2s

I wonder what was the critera that was chosen to pick albums for this list, because this album isnt popular enough to have a Wikipedia article of its own, the artist isnt popular enough(less than 10000 listeners in Spotify). So I'll give out the nod to Can vocalist Malcolm Mooney for appearing on Ravenspoint. 2/5 https://cdn.vectorstock.com/i/1000x1000/63/50/can-of-worms-idiom-vector-3966350.webp

This is not the sort of music I would usually seek out. The first track was annoying almost immediately, but this site has taught me to not judge a book by it's cover (or, more accurately, judge an album by it's first track). It was listenable on the whole, but just sterile and moody. I went to 6th form in the 1980's and this is the sort of music lots of girls were listening to and/or making in their bedrooms. They all thought they were deep and meaningful, and no doubt felt they were a bit better than the rest of us, but ultimately they were just up their own arse.

Two types of people think this album is great. Jane Weaver's mom and anyone wanting to get in her pants.

I wasn't expecting an album from 2017 to be on this list for some reason. Overall, I think the album was okay. This record had a lot more lows than highs for me. This album was interesting and made use of a lot of different sounds, some to a positive or negative effect. The production was decent enough, too. Most of the tracks on this album were just decent. There were only a few tracks that stood out to me. Favourite Track(s): The Lightning Back Least Favourite Track(s): Slow Motion, The Architect, Ravenspoint

This sounds like someone trying to recreate Can and Kraftwerk in their (admittedly fully geared out and well set up) basement studio. Unfortunately it’s doing so in the least imaginable way possible, putting the dreariest St. Vincent vocals over repetitive beats and using utterly generic pop chords and lyrics. It’s incredibly bland, if at least competent. But I’m scratching my head at why this is crucial listening.

an obscure art-pop album that hardly anyone knows about from 2017 makes this list. Ahhhh, she's from Liverpool, ok that explains it. Apart from a couple tracks, this album didn't land with me. I don't hear anything that similar artists haven't done significantly better. I could easily think of hundreds of albums that aren't on this list that deserve a spot over this one.

Didn't really connect with this one too much. A bit floaty, in a good way, but nothing really stood out much

Kinda bland— just not that into you!

Artistically great but not my style. Will not listen again.

It was ok, but it wasn't what I really wanted to listen to on my birthday

I’ll usually get an album like this and think, I don’t get it but let’s do some research to contextualise it. There was no contextualisation of this album that I could find. It was fine but undeserving to be on this list.

This album was a lot of decent enough ideas that didn’t really get taken anywhere. The vocal melodies aren’t strong enough to carry it either. A bit weird to include an absolutely inconsequential 2017 album as well, this definitely isn’t remember as one of the essential modern albums.

It's fine, but not catchy, nor unusual, nor exciting, nor worthy of any top list let alone this one.

Of all the albums that was one of them. 2.3

This is all a bit "meh". The singer is "OK". Not great, "OK". The songs are also "OK". Not great, "OK". The playing is ... well, you get where I am going with it. Why someone feels I MUST listen to this, I have no idea. About halfway through I stopped actively "listening" and it became "background music" as I got on with other stuff. 2/5.

An interesting mostly instrumental album but not one I'm super keen on, worked nice as background noise but didn't do much more than that.

Way too spacy..

Kinda wack. Mostly tuned it out. Decent background noise.

Day 93 - March 11th, 2025 This sounds like if force fed Bjork shitty TikTok bedroom pop. 2/5

next...

-it had an eerie feeling to it ngl -it didn't feel revolutionary or anything, not sure why it was included in this list rly -it wasn't bad at all just not something I would really go back and listen to, I think for ppl who like this type of music it would be good -fav songs: The Lightning Back and Ravenspoint

2.5/5 devastatingly boring. I kept waiting for it to get better, but every song sounded the same. They all had the same beat and I enjoyed none of it that much. There wasn't any issue that stood out it just wasn't that exciting, especially since it's supposed to be one of the greatest albums out there. Mid.

Fun game: listen to all of this album and see how many other 2000s-2010s indie girlies you’d rather be listening to! I include the 2000s even though this was released in 2017 because the vibe is very 2007-2008 ish. This is neither a particularly good example of its genre or even remotely ahead of its time and I did not enjoy it.

just ass 2.0

Okey, not for me though

The album is ethereal and calming and has a place on a Sunday afternoon when it's raining and you need something to match the mood. However, every song started off fresh and unique and then ended up in the exact same place. It came across as one extended song

Based on nothing - I believe - emphatically - this was the second best album of the week upon its original release. Facts will not change my mind and I don't care enough to investigate further. The most successful songs adhere closely the the well established template of Broadcast/Stereolab. There are some earlier psychedelics moments sprinkled in (Ravenspoint) Overall I did enjoy this more than anticipated cause I'm a sucker for a chanteuse and a motorik beat. But just - why is this here?

I mean, it doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. Come on, bro.

Haar album uit 2024 is veel beter

Neither liked it or disliked it. It was playing and then it wasn’t, didn’t really make much difference to, or for me either way.

Home cooking again?

I think I would have enjoyed it more in 2010

Correcto

Not as bad as I thought it might be, but won’t go back.

Modern(e) psykedelisk singer/songwriter, lidt skævt, lidt synth

A little synthy and techno... not really my vibe

Over-engineered album, too much going on instrumentally, sounds like a mess

Pretty Meh. Nothing new and didnt feel innovative or interesting.

I liked it too but it hasn't left much impact.

This is fine as far as this type of music goes - electronica?? Maybe. Not my thing. But not offensive. Fine background music.

A fairly recent album by an artist I’ve never heard of is quite rare on this list, so I was looking forward to it. Started really well. I liked her vocals and the mood. But then a few tracks in, it sounded like Les Dawson had joined the band. Overall, the songwriting just didn’t match the quality of her voice.

Kind of weird electronic. Not that bad but not my thing.

I am not a fan of the singing style nor the music in the first two tracks. Bad start. Not a fan of the electronic sound overall. I liked the rock notes, and her voice is nice. Overall, the album has a 70s vibe. That is the standout. I think she's signing in falsetto for most of it, and I am not a fan of that either, as it does not showcase much, unless the voice is just meant to be instrumental to complement the music. I'm giving this a star because overall, guitar work is good, but I didn't like anything else.

Not sure why this is on the list. It's ok.

It’s ok: very different.

Strange electronic pop with some monotone-ish vocals. Not a fan.

Aikamoista pukelia tuntui olevan, vaikka en täysillä pystynytkään keskittymään.

Not vibing with this unfortunately The second last song repeating "open your eyes" over and over felt like a huge cliché. Kind of... boring?

Not enjoyable

Some interest synth and dreamy-alternative sections. I'm confused on how something so average made it onto this list though.

Leuke electronics

Modern Kosmology is a bit boring, it's too dreamy and whimsical for me, her voice is okay but doesn't have enough dynamism to excite, it's not bad, it's just not good, 2.

Was surprised to see that this was as recent as 2017. It's not bad, but it's not noticeably good either, and sounds pretty 90s to me. There's nothing new to it, her voice is good but not great, and it gets increasingly trancey towards the end. The Architect the highlight for me, but none of it up to that much. 2/5.

Average.

This seems to be pretty obscure, I was firmly into the indie-folk scene by 2017 and I've never heard of Jane Weaver. I'd call this like folktronica, it has very light understated vocals, but it's generally a pretty electronic sound. I really thought I might like this more than I did. It kind of has this Tame Impala thing going on with the sound, and on the vocals if I squint I kind of get like an Aldous Harding or Angel Olsen a bit, but it just kind of fell flat to me. She's been around for a long time and is clearly talented, and this kind of feels like it should be in my wheelhouse, but it just didn't really do much for me. Basically nothing stood out that I really enjoyed, it was pretty middle of the road at best. I could definitely see this growing on me eventually, but it's a miss right now. Favorite song: Modern Kosmology Other: H>A>K, Slow Motion, The Lightning Back 8/17/24

not great

I don't know why this exists on the list. Not notable for anything.

Too weird and spacey for me.

Easily the most forgettable project I've come across on this list so far (for context: I've listened and rated 43 albums before this one), and the vocals in particular are painfully mediocre. Forgot about it as fast as it was "over" (I didn't even finish it was so bland, which makes a first DNF for this list).

1.9/5 listened 1x while driving to Stinson Beach

Mediocre at best. Would never listen to it again.

This record is full of baffling guitar note choices and mediocre vocals. I got some enjoyment out of a couple grooves, but the rest of the record did not land for me.

Florence and the machine but the machine is broken

Good background-y vibes, some of the lounge of Modern Kosmology reminds me of Jackson Browne for reason. All of the tracks fit pretty well together, production is great. Vocals are pleasing. Doesn’t evoke a ton in me but I don’t think that’s the point of this album. There’s a tad bit of monotony I felt after a while…it’s sort of drone-based so that’s totally ok.

So boring. Weak vocals. Uninspiring lyrics. A total slog to listen to and I don't understand why it's on the list.

Probably wouldn't remember I listened to this

Never heard of this before, or heard any songs on the album. Seems fine, though a bit inconsistent. Certainly doesn't seem memorable or groundbreaking. Not sure why it made the list. "I wish you were cool I wish you were something" 2 stars

It's fine. Enjoyable enough. But I'm not sure why it's considered a Must Hear album.

why is this so supposedly notable?

Starting to wonder what the qualifications are to get an album here. Pretty mediocre stuff.

I’m also baffled at the inclusion of this album. I enjoyed most of the tracks and it reminds me of things I was listening to and have been listening to for a while now but I’m not sure what makes it standout from contemporaneous albums that I frankly think might have more iconic potential to be on this list. This album seemed rather way more obscure. Overall, happy to be introduced to the album and come back to it but something I’d expect someone to recommend to me and not to be featured on this list. My standouts were I Wish and H>A>K. I had a hard time rating it. I’ll prob weave those couple songs into my playlists but i think my first impression was better than as I re-listened. I realized the album has a lot of potential and aspects I like but there’s something missing so I’m probably being maybe more harsh because I don’t understand it’s place here. 2.5

I tend to give post-2000 albums a pass if they were really popular on release or have since become popular, because that means they would've had a big impact on the music world (for better or worse). Modern Kosmology definitely didn't make a big splash on the music scene, looking at the Spotify listens. Because of this, I have to ask: why is Modern Kosmology included in this list? The music itself has a mix of good and bad going for it. The good: it's chill music. Very atmospheric. Good to put on in the background while you meditate, before/after a big public speech, or during a particularly uninteresting cricket match. I liked the very out-of-place male vocal that bookended the track Ravenspoint. Also, the style is pretty consistent but still varies in terms of songwriting. There's a good creativity-consistency balance. Now for the bad. Jane Weaver's singing is... not great. It's possible that either she or the production team knew this, and added thick layers of effects/filters in some tracks to disguise it. (This actually made her voice sound definitively worse.) But even without the filters, she doesn't have much in the way of vibrato, range, or clarity. Her voice is a little breathy and she doesn't get much volume or depth out. Another criticism I have is with the synths, which are almost too consistent/unwavering within tracks. Often, they'll either drone one note for entire songs or song sections, or repeat some simple melody relentlessly. It's exhausting for the close listener. But yeah, I did enjoy the music. Kinda. Just not sure why it made the list. Enjoyment: 3/5 Does the album belong on this list: 1/5 Avg: 2/5 Key tracks: Did You See Butterflies?, Modern Kosmology, Valley

I do not need to hear we’re turning to dust repeatedly to start my morning. Lotta nihilistic stuff going on, 1,001. This is like Aimee Mann with an electric gimmick-obsessed producer. But the nihilism is worse. Hoping for Weird Al to compensate.

This is pretty ok. Vocals and drums are good. Not impressed by the lyrics or the mood being clear expressed. What's the point?

This album made me look up if Mitski was on the list. She isn't. Should be.

Perfectly pleasant in places but overall a bit dull.

I don't really know why this is on the list. It doesn't change my view on anything. Modern music, older music. Not valuable for me personally. I'm sure there are fans of her, but I'm not one of them.

About as trippy as you’d expect - planetarium show music plus a little more energy

I think I preferred her earlier album 'Silver Globe', but this is still enjoyable. Not sure it's truly essential like most of the more modern choices on here but definitely worth a spin. I'd say there are fewer stand out tracks on this one, this one is more of a spacey psychedelic journey with the usual lush analogue sounding electronics.

I am unsure why anyone thinks people should hear this album before they die. There is nothing special about Modern Kosmology. I've heard a number of bands that sound similar or better than this. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't anything special, unique, or whatever word you want to use.

The Sound of Starbucks.

I liked it, not sure if I like it enough to listen to again though

Interesting. Can't listen to too much of that drone sound at once though.

This was ok but doesn't really stand out compared to other similar band. Reminded me of a second-class Stereolab.

Interestingly enjoyable

Beetje kek maar wel origineel

Atmospheric for sure, with strong Krautrock influences (nice touch with Malcolm Mooney, original lead singer of Can stopping by to provide some spoken word vocals), but not an album that lingers long in the memory after it has finished. It’s not terrible and individual songs in isolation are fine, it’s just a bit dull as a whole.

I have tried hard to get into this but it really isn't doing it for me.

Nothing special. Will probably never hear again

I don't mind it, but it doesn't deserve to be on this list.

Not bad, but unremarkable.

didnt enjoy it much, not very listen friendly for me

didn't really feel this one...

First impressions are favorable, here’s a 21st century artist whose music is intelligible, and inoffensive, but by the end of the album it’s really kind of annoying. It’s monotonous and kind of wears on you. I’d have given it 3 stars if it wasn’t for the annoying weird white noise at the end of the last track.

It's... fine, I guess. It's certainly a vibe. And that vibe is someone's jam, I'm sure. But it ain't mine. Production values were good but the performances were too pointedly "retro" and the songs were incredibly repetitive and empty. To the point that I felt my anxiety rising as the songs went on because they just didn't go anywhere and rarely managed to find their way to anything approaching a resolution. It's fine. But it's not fine enough to be good.

If I were to have heard any of these songs by themselves as part of a mix, I may ask who was singing. Listening to these songs one after another was just too much melodic electronica....not bad per se, just not my thing.

I might need to change my rating system because a lot of albums will receive a 2 star review this way. Nothing that really interested me, wouldn't want to listen to the album again.

Why is this included? I love indie pop, but this was boring

Pop album not for me

Well I really like the artwork, intrigued by something this new and relatively unknown. First song is cool, really like the indie pop drums and the synth, they play very well together. The vocals are a little odd, it rings hollow. Like there isn't enough depth or warmth there. The second song had better vocals, I enjoyed the bouncy guitar and more dream-like state. There is a degree to which this music more resembles muzak, but in a positive way. It seems deep but mundane. The wisdom that comes from everyday life. Next song was like early 00s indie rock with a common synth hook, it ended decently though. Next song was just boring. Overall, this album is good, but it falls into the weird category of why is this here? It is on a list of 1001 albums to listen to before you die, and I have no idea why. It is a fine album but hardly one to rave about, and certainly not one of the best thousand albums of all time. Its fine, but because of the disappointment I think I would do 2/5. Favorite Songs: Did You See Butterflies?, The Lightning Back, Least Favorites: Loops In The Secret Society, Ravenspoint,

There is a lot of technology involved with this project, but it's not really techno. I saw one band Jane is involved with called "technofolk." Hmmmm.....in any case, I enjoyed a cut - but just one.

Not really my thing. The instrumentals were cool but the vocals kinda ruined it tbh.

Synth pop with sleepy female vocals. Ok background music

Feels like the pickers have a type -- not mine

1. hak - 1.5 2. did you zee butterfliez - 1.5 3. modern kozmology - 1 4. zlouu motion - 1 5. loopz - 1 6. the architect - 2 7. the lightning back - 1 8. valley - 1 9. ravenzpoint - 10. i uuizh - 0

Not really bad, but didn't speak to me

Emm……

Ended up listening to Neutral Milk Hotel all day instead.

ehhhhh

Not what I normally listen to, but I can def appreciate the synth and lyrics. Pretty experimental album that I respect but don't love. Not for me. 2.5/5

Not a fan

pretty boring. not sure why this had to be add to the list after the first selections 5/10

4/10, vibes album but lacked real substance

Another to file under “what is this doing here?”

It was something, not super interesting. Glad to have some new music represented but this didn't feel especially groundbreaking. Probably would have been 2.5.

Made me nervous, while music is interesting, bit Cocteau Twins like singing. Guess bit to New Age like for me.Follow my feelings and give it 2 stars,

I gave this one a fair shot but unfortunately I don’t think this kind of music is for me. I didn’t like her vocal style and the music itself does nothing to compliment her voice. I can understand why people would enjoy it, but I did not.

As others have said, a baffling inclusion on the list. Fine enough, if a little sleepy

The approach with the vocals is not my favorite, I definitely prefer stronger sharper singing to the more floaty ethereal sound. That said, I do enjoy the production a lot, some of it sounds a little Postal Service at times and then a twangy guitar will come in and switch the vibe. Not really my bag but I didn’t hate it.

Overall monotonous, dull and uninteresting.

Listening to this record at full volume as I drove the kids to their mother's house this morning, made me feel like crashing the car into a lamppost.

It was okay

This is...fine? But I'm clear why this is on here. It doesn't even have a Wikipedia page. It's not bad but it's not great, and it really makes me question the methodology behind picking any of these albums. I know of plenty of indie artists from around the same time who have released remarkably good albums that are better than this (and if anything I want to go listen to those now): Thievery Corporation Lula Wiles Kaki King

its ok. But surely not one of the best albums of all time!

I’m not listening to this again but it didn’t hurt my ears

I expected more, which says more about me than this Marianne Faithful wannabe.

This is a strange one for me. It's not bad by any means but it doesn't break ground in any significant way. It didn't capture my attention at any point in my 3 listens. This one will fade into obscurity as time passes

I wish you were cool But you really did nothing Why is this album in this list?

Lacking substance, sounds like a demo tape. Interesting ideas but not enough here.

Folktronic explorations through the neopsych kosmos are done no favors by a less-than-captivating captain.

Can this album live up to this cover? Let's see. This ended up matching the album cover almost exactly. And interesting thing to behold, but also nothing that jumps out.

Spinning the same yarn as Craig here today. I listened. I'm positive of it. There was music playing. It was this album. I'm sure of it. But nothing stood out whatsoever.

This is a cute little album. I didn’t mind listening to it too much, but I didn’t find it anything terribly unique or impactful. Kinda wondering why it appears on this list. It’s not like it’s bad… it’s just not that good.

Listenable-ish…

Just okay

Just not for me

A little odd but not bad

Played it whilst working, didn't notice anything interesting at all

Better than Nico

Very forgettable. For an album that's so up to date it doesn't really do anything that I can see merits its place on this list

This project is great when it throws up surprising and contemporary albums that I’ve never heard of. For that experience, I am eager and grateful. However, on seeing this pop up, my first reactions were: Jane Weaver – who? Modern Kosmology (with a K) – why? Is it really that original and different enough to be on this list? I’m afraid I was underwhelmed.

A record that doesn’t excite me, it’s a bit too bland for my taste and the vocals didn’t really grab me. 2,5 out of 10

Listened Before? N Meh, It was okay. I don't know what to say about it other than it's not really my cup of tea. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: The Architect

Pleasant enough, but a little boring.

When you think about how this list also has records from artists like Queen, Stevie Wonder, Fleetwood Mac, Johnny Cash, Zeppelin, Aretha, and The Beatles, it makes even less sense that Jane Weaver is on here as well. This album is so... normal. It's a 2017, indie pop, singer-songwriter record. Maybe, instead of this record we could've had I dunno, Kendrick Lamar's DAMN., SZA's Ctrl, or Paramore's After Laughter?

Not quite my thing. Had issue where first track was on some weird loop for about 15 mins which didn't help but was not great.

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: Not really, sounded nice in parts but ultimately dull and just not for me Favourite song: Track 10 - I Wish

It was good but was it 1001 good? No.

I'm just not a big fan of that electronic sound... so repetitive and artificial sounding. Not for me.

Why is her voice 10x louder than anything else on the track

Not for me

Not for me and surprised this is on the list

muy pero muy lindo

I wanted to like this more than I did. I like the idea of a modern psychedelic / electronic sounding record but aside from some cool synth textures it sounded kind of boring. After the first couple songs I was waiting for it to go somewhere else or have a song that grabbed my attention a bit better. Sounded kind of safe and not adventurous at all really for this style. Not a lot of dynamics in her voice or in the arrangements. I hated the noodley guitars the couple times they popped up. 2 I guess? It was alright but not really sure why this the one of two albums from the past ten years on the list so far?

Just finished listening and I can’t recall a single melody, or really anything remotely interesting about this record. The drums and synth pads and sequencers are so relentlessly mind numbing.

Weird.

Not bad, not great; didn't mesmerize at all.

Nice surprise, not heard this before

Meh. Stuck between easy listening and a trying to follow her voice. Feel like it would be better if she picked a lane.

Every song on this album had potential. But for whatever reason, they found a way to turn each song into an unpleasant experience. Loops in the Secret Society, Valley, and The Lightning Back were the least bad. But that isn’t saying much. Scale: 5 - My absolute favorites. 4 - Albums I like. 3 - I enjoyed listening to it but wouldn't seek it out. 2 - Didn't like. 1 - Absolute shit.

easy listening synth-pop

2.75/5

Get's better each time you hear it. Might need more time though. 2.5

Boring synth, nothing new, not interested. 2/5

not my vibe

A couple albums behind.... Can't say this was something I disliked, but nothing really made me want to play again or upload into my library. Felt like it was close, but never got over the hump. I'd still give a 2. Just OK

2.5 I really wish I had more to say. It’s a slightly above average dream pop album and it’s fine. There were times where the wubby music was really cool but the vocals were such a turn off. The effects made it impossible to hear what she was singing about but the mix was too vocal forward. Could’ve been a lot better. Favorites: The Architect, The Lightning Back

Good name for the album - seemed like far-out music. Not interested though...

Why the hell is this on the list? My issues with Rob Dimery are really highlighted by his modern additions to his list. I feel like I could make the most dogshit Britpop-Electronica crossover album of all time and he would add it to the list without a second thought. The Search For Everything - John Mayer The Nashville Sound - Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit Capacity - Big Thief DAMN. - Kendrick Lamar Stranger in the Alps - Phoebe Bridgers Those are just 5 albums released in 2017 that aren't included on this list but absolutely deserve a spot on this list over another mediocre unheard of album. I could probably include more from that year but my point stand with those 5. I did not hate the album so I am being a little harsh. I would listen to any of those 5 albums 10 times each before I replayed this one though. Its a 2 star album because I'm pissed about the disrespected albums, but it might deserve a 3 if I was in a different mood.

meh, It was ok, but not really my thing.

I got really excited for a new discovery from the opening track, but my opinion of this record kept drifting down as I listened to it. The style, instrumentation, and feel should be right in my personal wheelhouse. The drumming in particular is pretty great in spots, and that goes a long way for me. Unfortunately, I just felt that the record never rose above that promise. If it only had a little better dynamics within the songs, development over the course of the album, lyrical substance or style, or vocal performance, I could have been hooked. That's not to say it's a bad record, just that I needed it to have one of those things to give it enough shine to be special. I listened twice, but I don't think I'd ever listen again. I'm sure others could describe it better, and I don't know the context of this artist or album at all, but it's a kind of mellow modern psych/indie rock with female vocals. The lyrical content, as the title suggests, is borderline metaphysical. It seems to be about tapping into a oneness with other people and the universe, finding a hidden truth, ignoring noise. It was fine, but just a little hollow--kind of like a boring person describing a dream or an acid trip that was life-changing for them. Hard to figure how this album could be seen as essential. There are plenty of albums on this list that I absolutely hate, but I have to admit are important in one way or another. This kind of feels like those albums that end up on a bunch of year end lists, and then 3 years later they're utterly forgotten.

Crazy album Good for studying Don't think I'm going to listen to any of it outside of just the album. 2

Beetje saai maar wel nakkelijk

Very good at setting a mood but I didn't find the songs too enjoyable on an individual basis.

Pretty wild, but not a “fun” listen.

It's ok, a bit arty and experimental for a 2017 album meaning they're deliberately being as arty and twee as possible. Aimed squarely at those with coloured hair who think that makes them interesting.

This was kinda cool and trippy I guess. It wasn’t bad and probably deserves a little better than a 2 but…I messed up my ratings at the beginning. It’s nowhere near as good as licensed to ill or never mind the bollocks which I gave 3s so I’m gonna have to start getting stingy. @1001albumsgenerator.com give me decimals damnit

I find it hard to believe that an album without a Wikipedia page is something that I MUST listen to before I die. Especially when it's as bland as this.

Couldn’t quite figure this one out. Not terrible but seemed all over the place.

Total bore.

Interesting album. Nice vocals and synth goodness. It's also the newest album I've been given so far. Unsure on its inclusion in 1001 Albums as it's pretty fresh, it must have reviewed well on release. H>A>K was my favourite off the record. I don't think it holds up against other records I've placed in 3/4 so its a 2/5 for me.

-Aggressively plain pop-electronic-ish music -Literally like nothing notable happened -Woukd usually get a 3 but it was aggressively boring and I did not even want to continue to the next song

Too ethereal for me. The tones were pretty cool but I feel like it should have built up more energy but always stayed pretty passive and mellow.

I've liked her earlier music, but this album just sounds like she wants to be Barbara Morgenstern. I think I'd rather just listen to Barbara Morgenstern. Too much krautrock.

Not really my think too trancy

Modern Kosmology is an apt title. It was a bit like reading a horoscope page on Facebook written by your aunt. I’m sure it is appealing to some but I did not connect to it at all.

Almost fell asleep and crashed my car.

Not getting into this one, seems a bit dull

I imagine this is what being able to breathe under water sounds like. And breathing underwater is low on my wish list.

The production sounds great and the music is pleasant, but it is super krauted-out and all sounds the same after just a few songs. I'd give it another half star if I could.

Woof. This was pretty bad. Yet, I somehow don't feel like it deserves a 1. Maybe it does. It sounds like music you'd hear in a vegan grocery store or some establishment that sells crystals and incense and other hippie shit. Yet it didn't annoy me enough to warrant a 1. I guess I'm just feeling nice today. Seriously though, this is pretty bad. Stay away.

Passable. Nothing in it to warrant another play.

Thoroughly okay, from start to finish. Not really sure why an album like this deserves a place on the list in the first place.

Not for me. Don’t like the vocals, and everything sounds a bit the same.

Egentligen kanske mer 1,5

Reminds me if the band Berlin was smoking with Jefferson Airplane but in a future decade. It was ok

Not really my thing

This album made for good focus music, but none of the songs stuck out for me.

Ok not great

Seems good. 2/5

Saved Prior: is that a serious question Off Rip: H>A>K, Did You See Butterflies?, I Wish Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Cool soundscapes, eh lyrics, eh vocals, why is this a must listen, 2.

Weren’t any parts I actively disliked, but a lot of it just didn’t musically do it for me. Cool vibes, but the music itself is quite simple and uninteresting to me, and repetitive.

Not my favorite

Mild nondescript pop.

boring AF

Ik vind het een beetje saai

Some decent songs but mostly forgettable. 5/10

Like a Brit-Pop Dido. Alright but not that exciting. 2/5

Meh. Reminds me of listening through an okay album from radio rotation. Very repetitive, but towards the second half of the record, there are some interesting synth passages that remind me of LCD Soundsystem’s new stuff or Sylvan Esso FAV TRACKS: Loops In The Secret Society, The Architect, I Wish LEAVT FAV TRACKS: Did You See Butterflies?, Ravenspoint

Decent melody and production. Entrancing. But the vocals and lyrics are shallow and unenthusiastic.

A poppy psychedelic indie album. A unique and creative listen but doesn’t really cut it for me. The instrumentals are there but I never really enjoyed it. 3.8/10

Ehh it was nice beats but lyrics were quite and overall not amazing

I'm not really sure about this album, I#m not sure what it's doing or how it's making me feel. It is quite interesting but interestingness alone does not make for good enjoyable music. It appears to take itself a little too seriously.

Not a fan.

Nowhere near as dreadful as the name and cover suggested

On paper, this sort of thing is right up my street, but it just didn’t grab me at all

An average contribution to the arts

Interesting

Okay? Nothing to write home about.

Ritmos medios electrónicos, aburridos, no me gustó

Really basic bitch stuff. Very boring.Hated it.

boring sorry jane

While this might be critically acclaimed for mixing cosmic electronica and pop and krautrock, it does none of them excellently and gives us a mishmash of boring. If you're going to mix genres, be outstanding at it, not bland. Go home, Jane.

in one ear out the other forgot what this sounded like literally 5 minutes after i stopped listening

This started off really well with some drumming, settled down for a decent listen, then that awful, high pitched irritating annoying voice. It grated from the first note and gradually got into every nerve, I had to turn it off before I killed something. Horrendous album

My mommy was a cosmologist

In the immortal word of Beavis and Butthead: This sucks.

This album had some moments, but overall it was a pretty terrible slog of boring.

At first I thought, “This is ok”. Then I heard basically the same song over and over and I became bored.

Kinda mitski y but not in the vital ways, more just delicate waifish voice way. Not loving anyway, 2017 very modern and I much prefer other stuff

Automobile commercial music. I get the feeling she wants to be cooler than she actually is. Completely forgettable.

It's nice enough but not worthy of list

Bra, men langt ifra essensielt.

Not an album for this site.

Total snoozefest.

I mean come on. Seriously, choosing this? This? Just plain weird.

to experimental

I liked the album, but eating has to be consistent with other albums in this list, and this one just doesn’t have any real reason for inclusion

Boring. A day later I can't remember any of it

Nah, need to be on psychedelic to enjoy this one

Hmmm not really thing

The Good: Something Modern! The Bad: Something that is spelled wrong… The Ugly: Thinking that Jane Weaver is an actress from the ‘90s until you look her up… Okay, that last one was uncalled for. I do apologize to all the Jane Weaver fans out there, all 4 of you. I don’t know what Kosmology is about, I would know what Cosmology is, however, that is a little too complicated and can’t be explained in 1 album… Kosmology, on the other hand, is Greek for shit music that should not be listened to. Thank you Mr Dimery for again making me wonder who is paying you to include these absolute turds of albums on a list that, according to you, one must hear before you die… well, die already, please, so we don’t have to listen to this kind of crap again. Hated it… in case that was not obvious. 1*

Super weird. Not a fan at all. Too many sounds that seem to come from the sound effects section of the keyboard. 2/10.
