to me this album kind of reminds me of like, the beatles' revolution 9 meets the beach boys' pet sounds. really cool, orchestral stuff mixed with a lot of noise. makes for an interesting album. i think if i gave this more listens, i could get into it, but it didn't totally blow me away on first listen. still, pretty cool!
The album sound definitely matches the title. The album was pretty good, not sure I would regularly listen.

Spiritialized and Spacemen 3 have always kinda been on my radar. I've been listening to this opening track for years, but this is my first time listening to the whole album. Some of it sounds a little too epic for my tastes, but I like the reverb and distortion of a few tracks. Seems like a solid 5 to me.

Pulling two heavy tumblr-core albums in a row is huge after all the boomer rock. The highlight of this album for me isnt the atmospheric pads and melodies that everyone knows it for - to me its the way the bass player chooses to play in a more sparse and often repetitive manner. Long repeated one-note hits with quick fill melodies at the end of a verse. Induces the same feeling of the best house music songs of this albums time - hypnotic and blissful

Blind album and artist. Know the album by name and the artist because of that, but that doesn't redeem this album in anyway. Glad I can say I tried it, but this was not for me at all. At least the title track was alright and creative.
I was going to do a track by track review of this but I just found myself feeling nothing at all listening to most of the tracks. It's like a big mishmash of cerebral nothing. I guess the sonics of the whole thing are kind of cool, but I found myself looking forward to it being over already.

This is an album I definitely will come back to. The production was really exciting, and the use of brass, strings, and a gospel choir were captivating. I had no expectations going into it, but coming out, I am certainly impressed. This is probably my favorite album I’ve heard in the “shoegaze” genre. My only complaint is that I could have done without the 17 minute long closing track—I already felt that the track preceding it was a triumphant end to the record and this one was kind of down tempo, sprawling, and droll.

Don't remember specifics of this album, but I do remember it was well worth the listen.
Pretty rough. Might be inclined to give it just one star but I did like the opening track and in between there were some cool sounds.

Spacey but not too spacey. Really a beautiful and interesting album.
Sounds like Blur crossed with Primal Scream. It’s good, not great. Lots of Stone Roses, Velvet Underground and Jesus and Mary Chain influences. Not offensive or too much of anything. Nicely balanced. Fine for a mix. I’d go as far as to say that, because they are so much like other bands, they almost don’t have their own sound. It’s hard to crave something that is just like everything else. I’ll just listen to the original instead.

Nothing quite wrong with this and I found the album enjoyable, but it never really congealed fully for me either. Reminds me of Pink Floyd along other things in a good way, and has an interesting sound, but I also think maybe it’s a bit too far away for me.
The Individual is terrible. The last song goes on for too long but this sounds like Dark Side of the Moon part 2. Ez 3.5

I've loved the title track for a long time and the rest was great too, especially I think I'm in love and broken heart. Great lyrics, drums, bass and guitar. A masterclass in excess.

as of current this album hasn't fully clicked but i still highly highly respect it. it's a little long for my taste, but it's clear a huge amount of effort went into this thing. both the first and last tracks are completely flooring. looking forward to coming back to this when I'm in the mood for it
A very good psychodelic rock album. It opens very strong and ends on its best and longest song with 'cop shoot cop'. In the middle it kind of mellows out, which is certainly due to its long runtime at 70 Minutes. It is quintessentail psychodelic stoner rock with not much happening and the occasional 5 Minute solo. But the addition of an orchestra is brilliant.
Sometimes they sound like they are doing a Bowie impression, other times they sound like proto Gorillas
This album was very psychedelic and I feel like I need to be high while listening to it I like Cop Shoot Cop but I wish it was shorter
Real nice atmospheric album. The addition of orchestra throughout is great. The opener especially is fantastic! Not really that much in the singer’s voice though. 7 out of 10

Litt rart
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space opens with an aptly spacey song that shows the production quality of Spiritualized as they perfectly capture what the album is all about. Then it dives right into some of the best rock of the 90's. To be able to explore so much sound in such a grand fashion is divine. It ends in a cacophony of instruments, all wailing like dogs at the moon. It is a freeing experience for rock, a genre that often feels so tightly wound up that it never takes a moment to appreciate how much greater it can be.

All songs are too "grand" to fill up an album. 90s idealism of a united world put together in the form of music. Somehow works, but since every song seems to be a Lord of the Rings size story, it gets tiring to go through all of these in one album. Good songs separately, but I don't think it works well together as an album.
I’d rather take my 70 min elsewhere, if I want psychedelic pop rock, I’ll look to the Beatles

Breathy and noise-like.
The name of the album is appropriate. It's a very spacey album. By that I mean empty. It's too boring to actively listen to. It's too slow to put on as background music. The only situation I think I would ever put this album on is to fall asleep to.

I just discovered this one - what an amazing cohesive album. It’s an impressive contemporary to OK Computer and introduced me to an intriguing artist I’m interested in seeing more from.

Oasis Meets The Beach Boys Great harmonic soundscapes and average grungy leads. I liked it, though.
Pretty frickin’ sweet record. It goes all over the place but always brings you back to some calming sound bath to make up for any discomfort it has caused you (very considerate!). 8/10

I don’t like this. I’m on track 4 and it just feels like an early shoegaze Pink Floyd album, before David Gilmour. Or Yes. I feel like I’m listening to the same riff on repeat with every song. The first song sounds awfully similar to Canon in D. I made it to track 7 before I tapped out.

Theres a lot of sounds on this album between traditional rock instruments and horns and violins they kind of do a little bit of everything here. As the Album progresses it feels like it gets more experimental with I don't know how to describe it other than a cacophony of sound that kind of works if I'm being honest. This album isn't bad but I don't know if it's production or what but despite having all these sounds going on it just comes off sounding pretty flat. Nothing on here really stood out other than just being a decent one time listen.
I had no idea what to expect from this one and it sure is something. They were looking for IT for sure. Did they find IT? Not sure but this was weird and ambitious so it goes in the give it another listen Someday pile.

Lovely psychedelic album, floats effortlessly through every track, and a truly inspired sound. Not such a fan of the noisy tunes, as they feel out of place and haphazard in comparison to the rest of the album's meticulously detailed sounds.
A bit of a mess really, an uncomfortable noise at times, but theres also some good stuff on here. I found it a bit dull and boring though, so a standard 2 stars is the most generous I can be in.
I had never heard of this before, and at first I was intrigued. As it went on though, it just felt like it would never end.

I was expecting something totally different, and I was happy to be wrong. A bit of Britpop, a fair amount of Madchester, and healthy dashes of Krautock. Makes for a good roadtrip album.
I never knew that “space rock” was a genre, but I like it. It’s a bit slow-moving, but it’s got a nice ethereal vibe. 4/5

Sometimes it kind of lulls you to sleep with the spacey soft rock vibes, then pounds you in the face and wakes you up with some sweet riffs. If one were indeed floating in space, this would be a good soundtrack for the adventure. On earth, it feels just ok.
I’d never heard of the Space Rock genre and I, for one, am on board. I love that this album is designed to be so immersive. The blending and transitions are really well executed, moving from chaotic ambiance to a bright pop groove, pulling back to abstract, then hitting the gas again, all without any indication the track has changed. I’ll definitely be checking out more of Jason Pierce’s work.
This is a tough album to rate. The first song came on, and I was like “Yeah! I may have found a new band to listen to! Space rock? I dig it.” Then the crazy distorted noise effects started happening on multiple songs, and I felt like I was playing Russian Roulette with the options being a calm, soothing, floaty song or being stuck in a meat grinder as someone is perpetually welding. C’est la vie. I’m still giving this a 3-star because the first song is essentially a mash-up of Elvis and Pachelbel’s Canon in D on drugs, and I’m here for it.
i've gotten 2 albums in a row i've already listened to before, and luckily both of them are unbelievable amazing pieces of music (the previous was blackstar by david bowie). the title track alone makes this whole album worth it but not mentioning "i think i'm in love", "stay with me", "no god only religion", "cool waves", and "cop shoot cop..." is criminal, as those songs are just as unbelievable. one of my favorite albums i've listened to recently
A few good songs here, but a lot that I thoroughly disliked, as well. It just went on and on and on forever with no end.
5.0 + Wow, I've been sleeping on this record, remembering it as more of a same-same Spiritualized record (as many of them are). But this really feels like a full realization of their sound, a true coming together of all their most transcendent elements - the bluesy guitar, the gospel vocals, the melancholic singing and lyrics. A beautiful odyssey!
Started out with potential. Got noisy in the middle. "The Individual" is awful. I did not make it to the epic 17 minute final song. I don't think I missed out on much. I really liked the title song with it's homage to Elvis.
Not my thing but kept my attention enough to avoid 1 star treatment.

Literally had to check and see if Sufjan Stevens was part of this group. But another exercise in “this group did it first” So weirdly 90s mixed with sort of ethereal. Enjoyed after spacemen 3 which was a little to psychedelic. This toned it down nicely and was a better meld
Loved the opening track, but as the album went on it lost me a bit. Wide variety of sounds but every track still seemed pretty similar in terms of structure. felt like this could have benefited from some <5 minute tracks. If almost any of these was a regular albums closer track it’d be a bright spot on the album, but having every song be a big sprawling album closer type tracks hurts it. Too much of a good thing, so overwhelming that it is underwhelming type thing

I don't know what I expected but it wasn't this. But damn, I'm very pleasantly surprised. It has a gentle rock, but a 70s psychedelic and slight funk attitude. It fits no boxes, but it also knows exactly what it wants to accomplish and does so. I also love the transitions from song to song. It does drag a little bit in the third quarter. Only tracks I knew going in were the title track and Come Together, neither of which I'm HUGE on, but this was a pleasant surprise overall. Really started coming together for me in the back half when they really ramp up the intensity. 3.5/5
I know this is a massive project, but it's just not for me. Sometimes less is more.
Even after finishing this, I'm still surprised how much I enjoyed this. I will probably go back and listen to this while high sometime.

i hadn't listened to this since back in the day. How much did we all LOVE this CD... I remember many a night chilling and chatting in someone's gaff listening to this CD. Great memories.

There aren't any songs here. Just soundscapes. Which, I guess isn't bad? But this isn't good. It's like if you took the actual songs out of an Oasis record, this is what would be left.

Un album qui fait malheureusement partie des très nombreux du genre que j'oublie de commenter juste après l'écoute et qui tombent dans l'oubli le plus total à peine quelques jours après.
Un album sans intérêt musical mais sur ce point là on est pas surpris, ni même plus vraiment déçu, non. Le vrai problème, c'est que derrière une idée de titre d'album amusante, qui aurait pu laisser place à des tonnes d'astuces tout au long de l'album, on se retrouve avec seulement une voix de cockpit sur 5 secondes en intro de l'album, et c'est tout. C'est donc une panne de créativité à tous les étages pour les gros losers de Spiritualized.

Usually love a bit of Spiritualized but found it hard to connect with this one. Maybe it's because there is quite a bit of dead air on this album.

After the first few tracks I was like "maybe I've missed something here" but as I do with all the albums I let it run its entirety, and by the end I was sure I hadn't. This is too chaotic for me, I appreciate the effort but not the result.

Very much of the music is just noise. But very organized and thought out noise. 3,5/5.
I was a big fan of Spacemen 3 back in the day, and always felt that Spiritualized were okay, but not quite up to the same standard. Jason took the gospel/ soul elements and dialled them up to ten and that wasn't the part of the music I liked the most. This album was more of a return to form I felt and I enjoyed it when it was first released. However, it's not an album I would listen to over and over again, like the Spacemen 3 material. There's a mixture between space rock, psychedelia, laid back drone sounds, with the aforementioned gospel elements thrown in. Listening to it now, for the first time in a couple of decades, it's actually a bit better than I remembered. I don't like some of the songs, the slow ones with just singing and not much instrumental accompaniment, they're just a bit dull. This makes the end result a strong 3 stars.

I will confess to being a sucker for anything that goes big and this has ambition piled upon ambition piled upon ambition The only bum note is Electricity - a decent song but just doesn’t feel a part of the rest of the album. Was torn between 4 and 5 but I think there’s so much that works so well we’ll go the whole hog

This is one of my all-time favorite records. Just a tour de force of space rock, neo psychedelia, shoegaze and gospel music. Incredible songs with incredible arrangements. One of the best.
There were some interesting sounds but not really something I would revisit.
REALLY enjoyed this album. I can see why it won album of the year. Not a band I would have ever listened to without this, but definitely my style of music - same vein as Massive Attack and others. 10/10

The definition of an experimental album. What a wild ride through the whole thing, incredibly lengthy songs on this but not bad at all. Took almost 2 years to make this album with so many collaborators you lose count! Dr. John is a mad man and this album was just wicked to listen to!

I enjoyed this album in general, particularly the more spacey tracks. There are a few low points, especially the rockier Come Together and Electricity, however it generally gets better as it goes along. The album builds up to a nice atmosphere and the production works strongly in its favor.
Another mysterious album I'd not heard of, from a band I'd somehow not heard of, full of songs I've never even heard in passing. I often get worried when an album like that comes up on my list, but I was very pleasantly surprised! This was an excellent album. A transcendental blend of 60s/70s psychedelia and 90s britpop. I think this would have been a life-changing experience under the influence of psychedelics - I'll certainly keep this album in mind if I ever get the opportunity. On researching this after listening, I discovered the amazing presentation of the limited edition CD of this - A mock prescription medicine box, complete with an informational leaflet outlining how to administer this "medicine", and a huge blister pack containing the CD. Possibly the coolest limited edition album I've ever seen. Favourite: Electricity

Never heard of this group but really liked this album. After initial hesitation of another 90s-oasis-type-band, I was treated to an ambient, rock album with a nice mixture of songs and tempos to keep it from getting boring. Even the 17 min Cop shoot Cop is worth it's runtime. A nice discovery!
For me, this album seemed to be all over the place. While I like have some difference sounds within groups, Spiritualized didn't seem to stick with what I thought seemed to work well for them. Was this suppose to be rock? Love songs? Seemed to wildly jump from one sound to another, which isn't a bad thing, but seemed to have no real flow. Despite that. I thought the first half of the album was pretty decent. I enjoyed the opening track of Ladies an gentlemen. Also liked Come Together (was expecting this to be a cover) and Think I'm in Love. Nothing too jarring but some song seem to go on way too long. Last song 17 minutes? Yea, unnecessary. 2nd half of the album seemed to drag a little, especially last song, but all in all, I thought this was ok. Just OK. Nothing great. Nothing too terrible. Just not for me. Had some good parts that I did enjoy. Just not enough to get my personal Mendoza line of 3. 2 to 2.5 but will score a 2
Yeah this album didn't really do it for me. Largely boring with a few sparse moments of being interesting. There are some okay moody tracks but I won't be coming back to this. 1.5
2.5 Never heard of this group or album, but I saw some comparisons to Radiohead and The Verve, and with the genre listed as space rock, I was hoping to hear some Muse in there too. Well, I didn’t hear any of those here - the closest thing I think I can compare it to is that Mercury Rev album we had. I really dug the opening track - I thought the usage of Can’t Help Falling in Love was really cool, especially how it was implemented with the whole battling vocals dynamic. If that kind of thing kept up, I think I would have really liked the album, but it seemed to immediately segue into Britpop on the next track Come Together. From there, it seemed to straddle the line of both, creating one big forgettable, half-baked album. I really didn’t outright dislike it, so maybe I’m being a bit harsh, though based on what I read about it before listening, I’m a bit disappointed. I was expecting an epic space rock opera, and while I really feel like it had the potential to be that, what we got instead was Britpop with prog rock influence and without any real sense of flow or arc to it. As a result, it just comes out sounding more overdramatic than it does grandiose. Just because you add a bunch of toppings to your pizza doesn’t automatically make it better, ya know? Sometimes just a pepperoni pizza hits the spot. (Credit to vgdunkey on YouTube for that metaphor - I use it all the time)

So I listened to this in two halves over two days and they were very different experiences. I do think the tracks improve as it goes on for the most part, but my moods were vastly different and my tolerance for this kind of Floydian music is VERY dependant on my mood - context! Anyway I feel like this would rock the house live, but it's never been my favourite stuff to listen to at home. For a proggy vibe I tend to go a bit darker, and either more or less full on. The heavier, noisier tracks appealed to me much more in that vein, while the playful stuff I really didn't feel gelled well. On a good day a four, a bad day a three, so three and a half. Fave track: No God Only Religion
First track made me pretty curious and the rest of the album left me pretty interested in this group. Really fascinating and eclectic blend of different sound styles all at play, with some more cool throwbacks to early punky stuff just as at home with spacey lullaby tracks. I'm not sure I was in the right mood to really get into the orchestrated maudlin break-up tracks, but some of the jammier tracks I don't want to write off just yet. Just such a big album to really get into in just 24 hours, so I'm leaving it as a light 4 for now with the intention of some further listening. Ik vind dit een beetje een lastig album. Verschilt enorm per nummer of ik het mooi vind, soms te klassiek, soms te experimenteel. Zou het vaker moeten luisteren om een echt oordeel te vellen. Heb m geluisterd ‘s ochtends om 8 in de trein naar Den Haag en dat was een beetje too much… misschien keertje in het zonnetje opnieuw proberen
Ik ben een weekje met vakantie geweest dus daarom heb ik afgelopen week niet zo veel geluisterd maar ik ben weer terug. En we hebben gelijk een goed album te pakken! Ik moet wel zeggen dat ik het rustige deel (begin en eind) van het album fijner vond dat de wat heftigere nummers. De rustigere nummers hebben een fijne combinatie van electronisch, rock en goede vocals. Het deed mij soms een beetje denken aan "Air", en dat bevalt mij wel. Aan de snaps van Jur te zien gaat dit een goede beoordeling van hem krijgen haha.
Lijkt een beetje op pink floyd maar dan nog experimenteler. Gaat daarom echt alle kanten op maar soms misschien ook iets te ver. Zitten wel wat lekkere platen tussen
LET OP: dit album is onder dwang gerecenseerd!!! Ik mocht van jur niet lager dan een 4 geven!! Alhoewel ik het zelf een 3,5 had gegeven is het niet het allerergste om het naar boven af te ronden. Het eerste nummer op het album vind ik echt prachtig namelijk. De rest van het album had ik nog nooit helemaal geluisterd maar was er voor mij een met pieken en dalen. Ik werd bijvoorbeeld meega onrustig van The Individual maar anderen zoals I think I’m in love en Cool Waves vond ik dan wel weer heel leuk. Conclusie is dat ik het nog maar vaker moet gaan luisteren
Wat een fenomenaal album!! Van begin tot eind gebeurt er genoeg. Het album trap af met een van de mooiste openers, en sluit af met een van de mooiste album closers aller tijden in de 17 minuut durende Cop Shoot Cop. Voor mij absoluut niks slechts te zeggen over het album, dit heeft van alles wat. M’n favoriete nummer is denk ik ‘I Think I’m In Love’, wat zo’n simpel maar prachtig uitgevoerd nummer is. Aan de ene kant je zelfvertrouwen, aan de andere kant dat stemmetje in je hoofd waardoor je gaat twijfelen, kan daar bijna iedere zin als voorbeeld nemen. Fav tracks: title track, I think I’m in love, all of my thoghts, electricity, the individual, Cop shoot Cop. 10/10

I had never heard any of this album before. I thought the opening couple of tracks were okay, but it lost me for a while from I Think I’m In Love onwards & I was pretty much gonna write it off as background music - quality, but background music nonetheless. Then I was woken up by The Individual - Sometimes noisy shit just works so well. No God Only Religion had a similar effect on me, but the final track, Cop Shoot Cop, clinched the deal. Where’s this mother been hiding for 25 years? Beginning with the most famous lines John Prine ever wrote, featuring the great Dr. John on piano & backing vocals (nice that he could be involved in something this epic 30 years after recording Walk On Gilded Splinters) this is an amazing piece of music. Background music indeed!
Minimal krautrock/shoegaze/psychedelic songs, with massive (and noisy) orchestral arrangements. The thing that elevates this particular album is the raw emotion of the lyrics. The hurt of lost love, compounded by an unhealthy relationship with drugs, leaves the narrator of this extended suite completely laid bare and vulnerable. The emotion is exhausted, sung in a deadpan delivery as an exhausted calm after the (musical) storm. I was a bit obsessed with this record when it first came out, and I listened to it on continuous play for probably a year. I love that the songs are quite simple, yet played on this maximalist scale. A masterpiece.

Nice to meet you😉. Good rock album, but not unique enough in his kind. Sounds to much like oasis, and in one song the intro is the same as in sweater song from yo la tengo. Individual is too noisy. I do like the variation in songs and the more quite ones, eg broken heart. Will i listen to it much? Probably not. Will i like to see a gig from him. If possible, sure.

Initially I was going to go through and write a few sentences about which songs I liked on this album but this album is an album you sit down and listen to as a collective. A beautiful spacey ethereal album with amazing production each song as gripping as the next highly recommend will definitely come back to this 5/5.

wasn't sure how i was going to feel about this one. started off strong - the first song was def my favorite. enjoyed cool waves too. the others, eh. its not terrible, but i dont think i would choose to sit down and listen to it. there was one song (half way through somewhere) that I had to skip halfway through. some of the "extra noises" got a bit much, lol. like i said, 2 good songs, the rest weren't bad - just not my cup of tea. 5/10
Enjoyed this one a lot. Love the whole feel of the album, especially the more "space rock" songs - reminds me of early Pink Floyd, but with their own original twist. I really liked the title track, stay with me, and cop shoot cop. No dislikes. Very solid all around, will be listening again in the future 8/10
I guess the vibes were good. This is the most recommended album from all the music services algorithms I’ve had. Really had no idea what to expect on this one. I expect I should have just laid on my floor and listened to this instead. Maybe I’ll still do that.

Listened to the whole thing and wanted to turn it off 90% of it. Felt sort of pretentious, up its own ass, and dragged. It had its moments, but they were fleeting and few and far between.

Really enjoyed this one. Some really cool psych/space rock cuts on here. Some people say there’s too much going on, but I kinda like that. Well produced too.
I mostly enjoyed this, but these shoegaze/jam/whatever bands need to know that some of us can't take more than 6 bars of the same thing.

Very good, lots of good implementation of noise, use of harmonica and noise seems very much like it inspired king gizzard’s (see no god only religion)

A mind-blowingly beautiful space rock album, I loved the wide array of instrumentation and the lush sound of it. One of my favourites albums from the 1990s for sure.
Ambitious, spacy, great use of layered sounds and vocals. Noisy, tonally a little inconsistent, swinging back and forth between ethereal and brassy. This would work better with another vocalist. There’s no denying the lushness of the production or the ambition of the arrangements. But with over 50 collaborators, Ladies and Gentlemen… suffers from too many fingers in the pie: the listener is left unsure exactly what Spiritualized intends this album to be.
This is a record I’ve heard many times over the years. It’s a record that, while listening, I think to myself, “this is a really great record”. It’s a record, that even though I think those things, I almost never come back to. I’ve made peace with the fact that it’ll never make it into my regular rotation. …or maybe it will, I don’t know. I got 3.5 hours of sleep last night and my brain is scrambled as I write this, so who knows what anything is anymore.

This is just flat out boring
I liked the album as a whole, but felt that the later songs were a bit worse than the earlier ones. The songs I liked the most were probably the opener, Electricity and Cool Waves (and the last song which was 17 minutes long)

A kaleidoscopic mirage of love and heartbreak, Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space will always be considered Spiritualized's magnum opus. Retreats into bombastic rock and rolling free jazzed gospel hymns pay off in quite the spectacular fashion that beggars belief. It is quite fitting that it came out in a year where British rock, after years toiling in the nationalist waters that produced petty rivalries and cringe-inducing forays into brash backwardness, was rediscovering its penchant for producing forward-thinking music that forced musicians to look inward and outward for improvement and Spiritualized was a part of that. All that was needed was a little bit of love to take the pain away. Turns out that we can give a lot of it for this.
this was an unusual album! overall it was peaceful, ethereal. there's a sci fi element, too--which has definitely been done before, but with the muted and easy tone of the album, the combination is what made it unique. somehow the entire album had this muted tone, like it always felt farther away as you reached. that allowed the album to be cohesive. spiritualized went in a lot of different directions but didn't lean too much in one direction, yet that muted sense connected the album together. as mentioned, spiritualized did a lot here but not in an overly ambitious way that causes an album to be too muddled. "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" sampled elvis. they have a fair amount of instrumental numbers, almost bordering on progressive. not to mention the range of instruments used. the horns and saxophones were used well--ok, almost. while i'm sure there was a thematic purpose for the discordant noises during the end of "no god only religion," i don't know if the ends were worth the means. and that instrumental title was accurate and descriptive, which is something i always enjoy. and even when i first listened to "broken heart," i felt my stomach drop because of the title's accuracy. there was a splash of punk, too. dr. john making an appearance is a great, unexpected addition. i found this to be a unique album, but i'm finding it very difficult to rate fairly. there were some ups and downs, but in general it was a smooth listen.
This album was a lot, both in good ways and bad ways. It's definitely a maximalist sound, production, and collaboration. It had a spacey and ethereal feel all throughout, without seeming like kitschy space age or ethereal music. But at points, the songs sound like no less than about six different things being blended into one giant mess of a song. I really don't know what to think of this album. I think I probably just don't really get it and am having a hard time connecting with it. A lot of it just ended up coming off as noise to me.

I don’t have a good feeling about this; never start an album with a bold proclamation, especially if it ends up being the title of the song. I listened to most of it — that was enough.

They sound like an above-average Radiohead cover band with more instruments.
At some point in my life I wanted more Spacemen 3 but got this instead. /uj According to the "cafe rating scale", this is a 3 (I would not flee). The difference between a 2 and a 3 is largely hostility. Even if this record and that Tom Waits one are basically equivalent in how much "active interest" I have in them, Tom Waits carries "active repulsion" so he's going to get a 2 while this doesn't.
The perfect review (not mine) The music is alternately quiet and fearsome, feathery light and sonically punishing. Several of the songs are at war with their own structure and end without clear resolution; the mad-scientist feel is often a kind of beautiful cacophony. Describing the album as prog-gospel would be a stretch, but not by much. Listen to Ladies and Gentlemen on headphones and you’ll develop a lump in your throat and may take up smoking again. It’s Wish You Were Here recorded by a guy who had his heart stepped on and has displayed it for all to see. Not every song explicitly pines for what was taken from Pierce, although tracks like “Broken Heart” keep listeners on that path

This was a surprise. I saw the long length and wasn't looking forward to that, but this hit me in the right spot. I've become recently a bigger fan of shoegaze and this is labeled as shoegaze so that explains why I liked it. Going to check out their other stuff based on how much I enjoyed this.
This album is an absolute experience. It has everything from a gospel choir, Britpop like melodies, and shoegaze like sonic explorations all wrapped up in driving space rock. The album expertly incorporates other artists such as Elvis in the opener and John Prine in the closer. I honestly am so blown away by this album that I don't quite know how to talk about it yet. It is symphonic, beautiful, uplifting, gut wrenching, and just insanely impressive. The amount of work that it must have taken to make this work is staggering. And it does work too.

Some super cool ambient & neo psychedelic rock Whole album flows really well as if it is just one long song. Some songs are a feast for the ears without being overwhelming. Super melodic giving some songs a lullaby feel in parts.
One of my all time favourite albums. Adore the first track. Hate the fact that the Elvis "Can't help falling in love" infused version has replaced the original more pure version on all streaming sites. Should be an extra track. It's lovely, but when I listen to the album I want the version I fell in love with. Every song builds beautifully. Talk about going on a sonic journey into the space in your mind. I have the CD that came in a prescription blister pack, and cardboard with the inlay notes written on a patient information leaflet and instructions for dosage, etc. Genius design. Absolutely wonderful album though. I got this in 1997 then went back and bought Pure Phase and Lazer Guided Melodies and the three of them soundtracked my uni years and plenty more besides. Saw the band live a couple of times around this time, absolutely spectacular each time. The live album released a year or so later is a great example of this. Could always be relied upon to do something special and different in a live version, songs such as Electric Mainline and Shine a Light are completely brilliant in a different way to the studio version. Broken Heart, off this record, the harmonica is just incredible, heartbreaking live version. The studio versions are fabulous also. Broken Heart is one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard. So sad on the face of it, but the arrangement is so warm, and ultimately feels so full of acceptance, and strength to move forward. Like Hope in the Dark, this song is an axe I often reach for to break down walls. Stay With Me's gently shimmering brilliance, Come Together's muscular gospel rock, I Think I'm in Love's laconic build. The freak outs. Electricity continuing the Beefheart/OMD run of songs called Electricity being fucking excellent. After all that, Cool Waves is a blissful salve, before Cop Shoot Cop blows your socks off again. It's just perfect. I'm only really now getting into Spacemen 3, Sonic Boom's work with Panda Bear helps. Will always love this album and frequently return to it. Faves. Title track (original), I think I'm in Love, Stay With Me, Broken Heart.
This album's effectiveness is wholly elevated from "Broken Heart" onward; really feels like a transition into emotional weightlessness. Much of it leaves me feeling cold, however.
It was ok. A big album that loses its mind towards the end, and arguably better. Feels like a time and place sort of thing – at the time this would have cracked some heads open. I think worth listening to again, felt like a forerunner to Sufjan Stevens

I saw this album pop up too many times, but just haven’t figured out the right time to listen to. After giving it my first listen, I can say that it lives up to the expectation. The shoegaze inspired track like “The Individual” provides a unique production towards the end. Sounded random yet easy to listen to. The album also doesn’t shove heavy bangers onto our ears, but at some point brings us mellow tunes, which balances the whole album. Layers of sounds & production on this album is just… I can’t even describe it, it’s just beautiful. I haven’t been amazed by an album for so long.
I've never got this band. Jason sings far too many woe is me lyrics and the delicate followed by the wall of sound seems too repetitive across the albums. Not for me

Так, ну спейс-рок довольно забавно выглядит, но на мой взгляд проблема отсутствия внимания к этому альбому в современном мире в том, что он был выпущен в 1997 году, практически одновременно с пластинкой Radiohead. К тому же, основная волна популярности космических мотивов - период 70-х и 80-х, когда научная фантастика просочилась в мир музыки и понеслась душа если не в рай, то к далеким-далеким звездам. В 1997 году единственной известной на весь мир пластинкой с космическими мотивами была Dark Side of the Moon, а сам жанр косморока уже давно был если не забыт, то похоронен под волной музыки 90-х. Короче, не самое лучше время для подобных экспериментов. Тем не менее, Spiritualized терять было нечего, ребятам было абсолютно все равно. Самое интересное, что они выстрелили. 70-минутная пластинка, четверть которой занимает последний трек Cop shoot Cop, получила фантастические для выпущенной на закате века космороковой пластинки отзывы. Послушав, понимаешь почему так. Хочется переслушать этот вайбовый альбом по накурке или пьяным, отключившись от мира, вобрав в себя вселенскую мудрость далеких звезд. Не смог добавить в свой плейлист треков с этого альбома по техническим причинам (на яндексе нет, вк блокирует), однако Come Together, Electricity и заглавную песню я бы точно послушал снова. Дам альбому 3/5 за наличие в моих любимых пластинках DSotM и любовь к другой музыке, однако как узкожанровый альбом Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space прекрасен.

Прочтение статьи в Википедии заверило, что существует жанр Space Rock. Что ж, добро пожаловать в саундтрек к фантастическому фильму про космос из 80-х. Во втором треке интересная вокальная линия в куплете: я всё ждал, когда мелодия сдвинется с одной ноты, а она там и осталась. Вообще было такое ожидание, что сейчас грянет "Hallelujah". Медные духовые огонь, добавляют песне немного соул вайба. А ещё в какой-то момент (где-то в конце) мне показалось, что клавишные играют что-то похожее на Киношный "Сюжет для новой песни". Ладно, трубы трубами, но вот I think, I'm in Love оказался затянутым и монотонным. Под такую музыку хорошо заниматься такой же монотонной работой. Переписывать что-то, серфить в инете, плыть в открытом космосе... Есть подозрение, что это одна из составляющих спэйс-рока: множественные повторения с незначительными вариациями. В тему альбома вспомнилось интервью Саши Васильева из Сплина, по поводу выхода альбома "Сигнал из Космоса": "Я вообще заметил, что если в 70-х годах людям хотелось свалить из страны, то в нулевых всем хочется свалить с планеты". Что ж, Spiritualized уже в ракете сидят, с гитарами, барабанами, синтами и симфоническим оркестром. Electricity: сильно выбивается из прошлых композиций, я даже почти скример словил. Бодренько, живенько и почему-то напомнило саундтрек из Марио Карта... Добавил себе. Подходя к последнему треку, ощущение, что я послушал часовую версию Space Oddity, усиливалось. И тут, как гром среди ясного неба: 17 минутный трек Cop shoot Cop. Воу. Блин, это конечно пугает, но композиция интересная: надрывающиеся гитары в проигрыше, умиротворяющий накуренный вокал... ракета видимо долетела до пункта назначения и готовится разбиться. Резюмируя, ставлю альбому 4+. Возможно потому что я не фанат ни Star wars, ни Star Trek. Да, очень крутые аранжировки, с использованием классического симфонического оркестра. Да, захотелось помечтать о будущем, а потом пришёл коп и убил копа. Но затянутость некоторых треков меня подкосила... чувствую себя конечно дико привередливым после таких заявлений. P.S. в том же 97 году вышли OK Computer и Urban Hymns. Первый забрал Грэмми, второй — 2 Brit Awards. Они скорее всего оба будут в этом списке из 1001 альбома. Офигенный год был...
Господи какие тут прекрасные музыкальные выебоны!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Вроде многослойно, а вроде и без всякого хаоса, все как-то играет друг с другом и отсылает тебя в медитативное состояние. Если не хотите слушать весь альбом, то последний трек реально хршхрш компиляция всего альбома. Лирика имеет некую нейтральность, будто еще одна дорожка, которая отвечает больше за смысловой контекст. (я уже говорил про музыкальные выебоны?). Забавный факт: поняв основной мотив лирики, я оч ждал "No God Only Religion" (точка, кто послушал, тот кек понял). Но какие же там прекрасные музыкальные выебоны!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Итог: хочу накуриться и переслушать, пока все-таки он слишком узкожанровый для 5-ки, да и вокал показался слегка безэмоциональным, поэтому 4 Песени, добавленные в плейлист сие авантюры: Come Together, All of My Thoughts, Electricity, No God Only Religion, Cool Waves. Для понимания контекста добавил бы Broken Heart после Electricity, воть

Done this one already, an here are my thoughts from a year ago; The opening track is earth shatteringly beautiful and one I've loved for ages. I never got far into the rest of the album before though. Come Together is good, but a bit sludgy, like Primal Scream at their dullest. I Think I'm in Love won me back again though, beautiful and layered and textural and sad. By All Of My Thoughts I'm starting to wonder if every track really needs a full wall of sound freakout - it leaves a lot of the songs feeling a bit too similar. Final thoughts - every time this goes slow and vulnerable, it's amazing. Every time it tries to be 'rock and roll' it's dull. Had three tracks been dropped it'd be a five star album.

This opens soooo well, lovely layers of melody. Album is probably a bit too long - plenty of aimless noodling, quite possible fueled by a bucket load of illicit substances.
Weirddddddd but a vibe
I've gone back and forth on this between a 1, 2 or 3. Broken Heart, which seems like a filler sing might actually be my favorite. However, every song is just a wall of sound. I don't mind that at all but it's almost every song, all song. Listening to this was very tiring on my ears.
Good sound, too slow for my liking. My favorite song is Electric, also the fastest song on the album. Good, not my favorite.
The Typical fluffy sound of Space Rock without drums is not my cup of tea. The first song had me worried. The songs on this album that have drums, raunchy guitar playing and an avante garde sound work nicely although I could have survived without hearing minutes 10-17 of Cop shoot Cop.
