Reviews (page 7 of 8)

Some songs were way too long for how boring they were, enjoyed some of the instrumentals but that's kind of it.

I don’t have a consistent thought about this album. Parts are disturbing and sound like a car accident; other parts are inventive and melodic. I think the entire listening experience would be improved by using hallucinogens.

I avoided listening to this album for like a week straight, because glimpses of the opening track made it sound like I need to be heavily depressed in order to even survive it. Think Loveliescrushing's discography. Thankfully, I was proven wrong. It's not depressive, just insanely boring.

This was mostly just kinda boring Will I listen to again: 2%

I don't know. I wanted to like this album but it feels a mile wide and an inch deep. It started well, the first track was good, but it doesn't really go anywhere after that.

This is one of the reasons why most bands should be limited to one album on the list. There's no reason I can see for another one of their albums to be here :/ 2/5

Ehhh, this seems like something I should like, but it’s like something is just missing. Not sure what. It’s like they almost got to a good album but fell a little short. Too repetitive or not enough oomph. Not sure, but I didn’t care for this much, but I wanted to like it. 2.5⭐️

Expected a few more lasers from a 'space rock' album.

This has everything that I love in music: long song structures, fantastic production, multiple layers as well as just being odd. But this doesn't do anything for me. Often times it seemingly layering just do it without a care as to if it sounds good or not. I can see how someone would love this and I can see how this would be a critics wet dream, waxing poetically about how brilliant this is and if you don't think so you're not cool or smart enough to get it. There does come a point about halfway through where its clear that they are just rehashing the same thing repeatedly and it becomes exhausting. 2/5, would not purposely listen to again.

I would absolutely swear that I have listened to this album before on this list, but no. Maybe I have heard parts of I Think I'm In Love before? if so I have been skipping the last part of the track. I would also have been skipping large parts of this album if I had the choice. I see this is defined as space rock, but it's not what I like in space rock. Tedious.

Entiendo que hay canciones más lentas, pero por dios, me duermo. El tramo final es soporifero Luego las movidas me parecen jesucristo

I thought this would never end. They really didn’t know which genre of music to make so they made them all.

Just say no to Big Pharma! ★★

kind of a nothing burger ngl

where’s the beef?

its good then its not and its too much not good to be good 2 stars

2 stars. Started off good and went down hill

Another one misses the mark. Perhaps I'd like some of this better if I were listening to it closer, but in general very little of it grabbed my attention, and some felt downright indulgent (looking at you, Cop Shot Cop...).

My first space rock album, ha. I didn’t really get it, but it was nice at times. But usually it was either boring or hard to listen to. Favorite songs Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space, Cool Waves

I could have done without this. I give credit to the album title, as at times, the music does evoke a floating in space vibe. But it's not a vibe that appeals to me.

Fighting every urge to give this a one star. It’s just not good

Interesting album name. I wonder what we got here...This first track sounds familiar. Hm I don't know what to think about this so far.

Bit wack by the end Fave track: Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space

Some of it was really good. Some just felt like noise

Started optimistic…got way less so

I can't listen to much of this

instrumentation is great, but they certainly didn't put time into anything else.

The 2d Spiritualized album did not impress any more than "Lazer Guided Melodies." Not offensive, but also just bland noise that it not well done enough to be interesting.

Meh, just kind of there

This was fine, but a lot of it didn't work well for me. There was some cool layering of different elements, but I felt that a lot of songs were on the weaker side, unfortunately. I can see myself revisiting this album and liking it more, but for now it's not going to get a great grade. Favorite track: "Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space"

Sonically part of the trippy post Britpop hangover of ‘97 and also typical of the CD noise wars. I hear some influence on later Blur and some Mogwai like drones but also quite an unbalanced track sequence for such a varied listening experience. No intention to return unfortunately.

No destaco ninguna canción

Had me in the beginning, then lost me, then had me again, then lost me again.

The title song was decent, the rest was meh.

Please bob dylan spare me. Really not my thing and if you bring out that harmonica one more time so help me

DNF Switched to BBC Radio 6 instead.

Didn't do much for me.

Some really cool moments but overall not for me

I have alot of the same thing to say about this one as their first record. Itz fine. Its really fine but I just do not care at all about it. Its just not my cup of tea at all. I would call it boring but that the wrong word for it cause things do happen and it moves and changes well enough. It just zigs when I want it to zag. It just doesnt do anything that would appeal to me. It is an improvement over their first but when its already a thing I dont like its not a big change. Too spacey. Too relaxed. Too wrong for my tastes.

I thought it started off okay but kinda went off the rails about half way through.,

Kinda boring but the first track is a ripper

Not particularly great or innovative, but not bad either

Was listening while grocery shopping and not a single song made any sort of impression so womp womppp

Cool, this album. I'm somewhat familiar with Spiritualized. This is space rock, if I'm not mistaken. Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space is most notable to me for marking a rift in the 1001 Albums books. This is the last album before the editions of the book start to differ from one another. The entry right after this one is the Dandy Warhols' album, which was removed from either the 2010 or 2011 edition of the book (I don't have a copy of the 2010 revision, but I can confirm that it's absent from the 2011 update). I possess this information because I've cut down my PDF copies of the later revisions to include just the new albums. Anyways, I'm keen to give this album a listen. Great album name, fantastic package design. The prescription medicine idea for the album cover is a pretty inspired choice. Injecting music into my system is pretty hardcore, though I like to think that the decision is a statement on the healing quality that music can have. Again, no clue why I possess this information given that I haven't heard a lick of the album, but here we go. Yup. Certainly space rock, though I'm feeling a bit of a Britpop sound too if my genre-detecting impulses aren't completely out of wack. "Fuzzy" is the word I'd use to describe this album. This is definitely within my sphere of interest, though the signal was jammed somewhere along the way and now the music fails to connect with me. I like the music aesthetically and there are some occasional moments of excellence (particularly in the strings and brass), but everything else is kind of a sludgy mess. The warm guitars which hang over and engulf these tracks severely undercut the fidelity and depth that these tracks would otherwise have, leaving many of the songs sounding airheaded and misty. There's also the question of how lengthy the runtime is, though the failings of the album are more disappointing than they are frustrating, so I didn't have too much trouble sitting through this one. It's a bitter pill to swallow, but it thankfully goes down smooth. Book time. It talks about the sweet packaging. "Album of the decade" to many critics, though that's about it. Wikipedia says this album was a critical slam dunk and has received enduring acclaim. Sure. Space rock has always been an interesting genre to me, and this appears to be one of the more acclaimed releases from the genre. I cosign this inclusion.

Pretty good but too weird for my taste, 2 stars

Not my fave but fun

Just like the first one I got from these guys...snooze fest imo. Sure there's some pretty music but the songs always go nowhere. Cohesive I guess but just sooo fuckin meh. 17 mins of noise crap for the final track gets this dangerously close to one star territory.

One of the things I've learnt from this list is that I really appreciate albums that have a lot of variance throughout. This is not that at all, and not much really does it for me. That last song was super painful, too. Seventeen minutes of basically nothing after lots of nothing. Boring, not bad.

It insists upon itself.

Meh, don’t bother coming back.

2.5. Too long and some noisier bits that weren't for me.

2 out of 5. The music is ok, got more interested in the packaging after reading more about it.

Felt like it went nowhere, tracks went on for too long, the music is boring and unimpactful and the album itself is way too long.

My god that last song is 16 minutes long

I listened to it and I remember nothing.

This really thinks it's something. It doesn't want to say it, though.

Man, does this album go all over the place. There's great stuff here and there's junk. Starting off with the title track, you hear a bit of a "Fools Rush In" sample, but then there's just people takling over each other. Two competing vocals talking at the same time will never be interesting and quirky, its just annoying. Come Together had an interesting story, but was mostly monotonous and dull. At this point I was worried this was going to be a slog. Then you get to I Think I'm In Love which was really nice, had great guitar work. And then it drops down to the basement with All Of My Thoughts, which has weird parts where they just pump noise through the speakers. The rest of the album continues this mix of good and bad. Hard to pin down a final score, averaging the song scores would probably give just south of a 3, but the duds really do drag it down, so I'll stick with a 2. Best song: I Think I'm In Love

Fell asleep on this one. Not horrible, just didn’t grab me.

Too many of the songs devolved into dissonant noise

I’ve never done drugs… but this made me feel like I have

A whole lot of nothing in particular.

Man... When I hear "space rock" I'm looking forward to hearing something something like Hawkwind, F/i, or US Christmas. While this OCCASIONALLY works in a few similar elements, it is most assuredly NOT space rock. This is mostly pretty boring. Not only that but it's pretentious as hell, attempting to blend genres and incorporate instrumentation and vocals that just don't fit. This feels like an idea that was never fully fleshed out, and never properly edited down.

If I could give this negative stars I would

Not as awful as I expected, but still not something I’d ever want to listen to again.

I have a lot and nothing to say about this one. There were songs that I liked and songs that were truly awful - 'The Individual' being one of them. Many of the tracks felt like a wannabe movie fight/police chase scene just lacking dimension and direction with too many elements chucked in together so that none can be appreciated individually. However, there were some parts that I found listenable like 'Cool Waves' where I think that the instruments can be properly differentiated and are utilised effectively. Doubt I will ever come back to this.

Truly awful lyrics.

All the songs feel pointless in a way. Literally a fever dream personified.

i have never heard of this band or album so i honestly have no idea what to expect. sounded like weird electronic covers of songs that already existed

This was pretty terrible. Sounds like a car crash. A really bad one where people die. Everybody is sad. It’s not even a cool one where the car flies off a cliff. Or the car gets hit trying to beat the train across the tracks. No. It’s more like sme idiot hits mailbox and flew out the window, landing on his face. Nothing cool about that.

This is gonna be a two. Never felt like it was a chore to listen to it, but also nothing really stood out.

There is a track midway through the album that sounds like an antelope being bonesawed alive on a late afternoon in the steppes. Shame, I tried to like this.

Some of the songs were okay, all instrumental. One song just felt like screechy random noise - did not like.

Wasn't bad until the 17 minute song that sounds like a middle school band trying to tune up.

Worst phish album ever!

Previously rated: #465 - Lazer Guided Melodies (2/5) ********************************** Album #982 Damn, given all the impactful artists/bands with no albums on this list, we get a SECOND one from this band??? I don't get it, and I don't get enjoyment out of this. All that ethereal noise and the repetitiveness of it all just gets on my nerves. There was some cool sounding drumming in No God Only Religion, but it was drowned out by all that superfluous noise. Best track: Electricity. They probably wrote it as a parody, but I kind of liked it. It sounded like a Velvet Underground inspired track. All in all, it seems that this kind of music is made for critics, not for me. The last track, a 17-minute long overindulgent extravaganza, exemplifies this well. It makes me long for basic, straight-forward rock like Kiss.

I so wanted to categorize this as background, but it’s just too damn distracting! I found myself continually turning down the volume, until I finally just turned it off. It forces you to pay attention, be decisive. Fine! 2 Stars for successfully bugging the shit out of me!

Despite Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 having all the elements I typically enjoy in a band, their music ultimately falls flat for me. While their sound initially intrigues me, the lack of progression or depth leaves me feeling bored. It's like going on a journey that never really goes anywhere.

Deserves even lower because of the album title.

Interestingly enough I’ve never heard of Spiritualized. I don’t think this album was really for me but I can appreciate the experimental alternative sound. I’d like to hear more of their discography.

The good parts were good. The rest ranged from intolerable clusters of noise to boring and unenthusiastic vocals.

This is worse than I remember their other album being. It's kinda cheesy. Not very appealing. It's alright. Cop Shoot Cop pmo i don't mind noise but this is just genuinely unpleasant and feels artless and needless

First track was interesting, but as an album it failed to get my attention. Some of the more ambienty moments were cool and interesting to get lost into, but overall I didn't find it a compelling album or one that spoke to me. Wouldn't re-listen to really, apart from the first song maybe.

Overrated

Too drugged out and mellowed out. There is some good moments, like the heavier Come Together or the mind bending textures on I Think I'm In Love, but for the most part this is kind of a snoozer. No amount of reverb or druggy atmosphere can save these songs from feeling hollow.

A weird listen for sure

If I were being charitable: inoffensive. If I weren’t: boring.

Good moments, but it got repetitive and dull

A bit strange

Some ok moments, but never got into it and some of the songs I skipped

Ok 👍

Recuerdo que me prestaron este CD y era bastante impresionante el formato de producto farmacéutico con su prospecto y todo. No me ha interesado, no suena mal, pero no me he guardado ningún tema.

For a production with so much going on, I found this fairly boring and unengaging. It felt like they had initial ideas for songs, but didn't really know how to execute them. So we ended up with tracks that dragged on or meandered when they could've been tighter (and better). I was hopeful from the album description that this would be pretty good, but unfortunately I didn't find it anything more than fine. One of the best things about it was that it varied in style throughout the album. Some songs were quiet and spacy, others loud and eclectic. Sometimes it changed up during the song itself. It kept it from turning into straight background noise. Even so, certain sections were pretty similar and dragged. While I liked a few tracks, others were a downright slog to get through (Broken Heart probably being the worst example of this). It didn't help that the album ran over 70 minutes long. I don't think they said/did nearly enough on the record to warrant that length of runtime, especially when a portion of that time was filled with slow musical movements that didn't seem to serve a purpose other than just adding length. I was pretty over it by the end, though I did like Cop Shoot Cop to an extent (even then it should've been 10 minutes long instead of 17). Honestly, I really didn't see anything all that great here. I didn't hate it, but the parts I actively liked were infrequent. It's hard to appreciate something that felt like it should've been 45 minutes but got stretched to 70. Not sure I needed to hear this one before I died. Overall: 2.1/5

This started well, but as it went on I lost interest. I can hear the way it influenced some other music and how it sat alongside things like the verve, but it wasn't really up my street. The tunes felt a bit simplistic and naff at times and there were several points where it just turned to cacophony, which my wife asked me to skip and I happily did.

The best potential-album ruined by affected-hipster-vocal-slouch that I've ever heard. The backing tracks are incredible. The album would be SO much better if he had just left the vocals off entirely (and could have been a masterpiece if he'd swallowed his ego and brought in someone who actually cared about singing.) This horrid trend (that seemed to really take off in the late-80s) - of studio rats thinking they could just handle vocals themselves but being so insecure about their vocal talents that they don't spend any effort on them and instead just demand that no one care about vocals in the first place - is an infection that goes to the heart of the project. Someone who works, seriously, on vocals for a decade, with the care that this guy obviously took developing his other musical skills, not only brings vocal technique - they also motivate a much more serious effort at developing melody, which usually pushes harmonic structures and arrangements to be more interesting, which pushes the entire songwriting effort towards a tighter, more developed, and well thought out production. But the REAL mystery is that, despite his obvious disdain/disregard/indifference for/towards vocals as a skill, HE STILL PUTS THEM FRONT AND CENTER IN THE MIX. Which is a total mystery. If you care so little about your vocals, why do you put them on top of the elements of the tracks that you obviously DO care A LOT about? Just bury them in the back like a tambourine or third guitar track. But no; front and center they are. So we're left with these brilliant tracks interrupted by limp and undeveloped 3-note melodies tossed off by what sounds like a frightened 20-year old whimper/whining as the "songs" just seem to drift aimlessly around him.

Not really into psychedelic rock but there were some long odysseys in this album

Shoegaze - This was less offensive than the previous shoegaze band I listened to. But I found I have enjoyed this band when they sing but not when they play everything all at once.

only okay

I like the psychedelic chav-futurist space rock gospel sound of this record but without any real substance beneath that it’s a bit of a chore. Almost as boring as The Verve.

Things start of brilliantly with a truly original take on an Elvis Presley classic. Unfortunately the fun kind of stops there. There’s some forgettable ventures into blur territory, and some experimental instrumentals. I actually found Broken Heart to be quite nice, but otherwise this was a bit disappointing. ⭐️⭐️

Floating in space would be a good alternative to never having to hear this album again. 2/5

WalMart Radiohead.

Très hâte de mettre 4/10 à toute la discographie de Pink Floyd.

Mellow, last song too long

First song is good Rest is not

Oy, this was a slog. More than once I thought that the music was finally picking up only to discover that it was the music to the ads YouTube placed between the songs. Nothing here grabbed me and I found it too long and boring.

Not a huge fan. Appreciate the experimentation but it didn’t land for me.

Found most of this to be pretty boring but then the 17 minute final song solidified that sentiment.

Unremarkable

Boring.

I've tried for decades to get into Spiritualized. And Spacemen 3. Friends of mine with good musical taste love this band. I just don't get it.

Kult cover, men litt døv musikk

Lots of callbacks to better musicians - Elvis of course, but also The Beatles, Stones, Pink Floyd, VU, etc. The heavier stuff got my attention but nothing here sticks or got me excited. Drug songs are getting tedious around here too. Enough.

Not really my thing. Maybe if I was high and sitting by the fire, it would be good, but too many of the songs sounded like they just put random sounds together with no cohesiveness.

Just didn't hold me for long. Became background noise.

Album 880 of 1089 Spiritualized - Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space (1997) Rating : 2.5 / 5 Just a bit too spacey for my taste. There are some nice sounds scattered throughout, but too often it felt random and unfocused. Very dreamy, almost to the point where it might literally put me to sleep if I gave it the chance. I can see how this would appeal to fans of lush, atmospheric soundscapes, but for me it just wasn’t an engaging listen. Not bad, just not for me.

These guys are trying to be like Pink Floyd, but failing. It drones on an on without an end in sight, especially with a 17 minute long track at the end.

The constant drone of keyboards underneath every song gets tiring and some of the tracks are pure annoying noise. Not great.

I'm thinking psychedelic rock just isn't my cup of tea.

More of a soundscape and feels very generic with not much standing out. Some strong 90s nostalgia, some game soundtrack-like, some movie soundtrack like, especially Broken Heart.

This was like two feet off from being right up my alley. But for how close that two feet was, each inch in between may as well have been an infinity. Many, many times, I felt myself switching from rock-out mode, to literally saying out loud, ‘what is this horseshit?’ Maybe I have to give it another listen? I don’t know. The effort seems more difficult than it’s worth!

When you order Pink Floyd on Temu . . .

Preciso ouvir com mais calma. Diferente, espacial, noisy...anos 90...

Liked it less than Laser Guided Melodies, this one felt like it rambled. Great sounds here and there, but it was a lot of work to get to them.

It was ok. Not for me tho

Me hace acordar un poco a mi ex dont love it

Ladies and Gentlemen only song I liked.

Pretty chill with alright songs but nothing to really go searching gor.

eh not a fan. Didn't really enjoy this one. 2/5

Really, really boring. It’s Doves, but without the character or energy.

Álbum experimental ok. Celest Phoenixcall

more like ladies and gentlemen we are BORED in space haha... nice. Fav song: Cop Shoot Cop...

unique

This album is like if you have been staying up too late at night during the week, so you are exhausted when the weekend rolls around. It is a nice Saturday afternoon, the sun is streaming through your french doors, and into your living room. You let the warmth on your face ease you into a lovely peaceful nap on your couch. Then in the middle of your slumber, your three year old son comes and punches you in the dick and starts crying. You manage doze off again, but twenty minutes later he gets into the pots and pans and makes a cacophony of noise. At this stage you are just too scared to go back to sleep.

Too pretentious. Too much "could we" and not enough "should we". You could see the ideas but they were not formed well.

Dreary

Dull as fuck, and not very good musically on more than one occasion. I came very close to turning it off before the end, which would get an automatic 1 star. I did persevere though, but didn't really get much reward for that. For the 1 or 2 brief moments I enjoyed I'll give it 2 stars!

I really liked the first song, but unfortunately not the rest that much. Cool vibes but not my favourite.

I can see the ideas behind this but it just doesn’t quite work

It’s got some moments, and there’s a lot of depth to it, but it really just drones. It’s like the boring parts of a Flaming Lips song.

Chill okay music

Uninteresting

Heard it before. Other than the title track the album is kinda boring as hell 2/5

there are some interesting tracks there, but others are very dull. 2/5

I was going to give this a 3 because it is marginally better than Lazer Guided Melodies, but that 17 minute last song drops this to a 2. These self-indulgent twats love their sound a lot more than anyone else I suspect

Like the other album of theirs on here, it was weird, wacky and too long. By the time I finished listening to both, I had to have a lie down.

I had never heard of this one before. Man, lots of long tracks of just noise. What little coherence there was didn't really find a groove. Better than many other albums on this list, but still not that great.

Yawn. Though the noise jam ten minutes into the closing song did make this album from simply boring to annoying enough to shut it off.

Every song doesn’t need a three minute horn outro. Cop shoot cop made me wish a cop would shoot me. Bland shit.

Don’t know what to think of it.

I don't need to hear this again.

I know that this is some kind of shoegaze classic so i should like it, but i’ve never really had the patience with this one .

This album had it's moments, but there were too few of them. It went too gospel too many times to my taste.

So much of this album was spent going ‘seriously? What the fuck is this self-indulgent shithousery?!’ It’s not bad, and it would almost be background music if it didn’t spend so much of the run time jumping up and down and trying to draw attention to how very very interesting the artist was trying to be. Never listening to it again, it left no impression on me whatsoever.

Not unpleasant, just kind of pointless.

oof... I did not appreciate the album title track (first track). It twisted a bunch of songs together. It was annoying... Interested to see what others thought about that dud off the front of this. I absolutely hated it. In general, Ive found that ive genuited hated very few tracks in this list of almost 200 albums we've already gotten through The rest of the album kind of makes up for that being so awkward. Come together was decent (a bit noisy, but it was fun and had a nice rock sound). Home Of The Brave was alright. Kind of sounded like a Beta Band track. Then there is Cop Shoot Cop... This song is freaking weiiird. I actually enjoyed probably 10ish mins of this and had to turn it off to recompose myself for a work session. It has a nice free jam feel to it... Like they couldve actually made this up on the spot in some moody studio session. It also feels like something from a low tempo electronic group like Pretty Lights. There are all sorts of super odd sounds mixed with the repetitive bass, drums and guitar lines. Honestly, Spirtualized shouldve scrapped the entire project and just kept this song. 2.5 stars and rounding down. If it was just Cop Shoot Cop, id go up to 4 stars.

I could see it growing on me after multiple listens but it fell flat for me first time around. It kept feeling like I was about to like a song but just never crossed the threshold. Rating: 2.2

Spacey and Jammy. Not as bad as i was expecting but not something i'd revisit.

Didn’t rate it.

It made me sleepy.

I really can't get into this band, despite multiple attempts. Their style of britpop meets psychedelia just doesn't do anything for me. 2/5

Been thinking about a phrase to describe this album, and I keep coming back to ‘deeply average,.

I thought I was gonna be offended listening to this but it wasn't that bad, entertaining enough background noise but im not gonna go out of my way to listen anytime soon.

I liked the first song but the rest was very blech. This reads like a great album but it just doesn't connect like it's contemporaries

This was boring and it’s been done a trillion times better by bands before and after. Oooh I have big feelings and that turns my song in to a cacophonous mess! Nobody’s ever done that before! Can we have some violins too? Let’s slowly crescendo up and add a repeated phrase for three minutes. Maybe we sing about heartbreak. Damn. Now we’ve got a unique record. One thing saves this - a song on Radiohead’s Kid A ripped a song in this album quite bit. “No God Only Religion” is basically the same song as “The National Anthem” down to the trumpets and driving bassline. Thom with an h you have a lot to answer for.

Not really my jam.

A bleary Velvet Underground gig but where the band members are all from Cast and Inspiral Carpets. Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in crap.

Unfortunately nothing more than background noise when I was listening to it. Nothing really stood out to me as particularly memorable.

Not really my thing but someone interesting.

Didn't get it

I literally fell asleep, not for me...

Spiritualized - that’s a good name for a group. Space rock - that’s an interesting genre. This British group is another one I never heard of. My feedback: eliminate all the songs with random noise, and cut the length of some songs (too repetitive). There are a few good ones, however not enough for me. Two stars.

This was mostly dull

Interesting, I guess. But kinda slow and boring. Not my thing

imagine replacing that cool ass album cover with bootleg legos

Pick one track off this album. Any track. You'll get the idea. If you like it, indulge yourself, and if you don't, it's OK to move on.

Easy to listen to but everything sounds kind of the same and it runs together

I probably liked this better than the previous one of these we've heard; there's a Sonic Youth quality to it, particularly in "No God Only Religion" and "Cop Shoot Cop". But... 17 minutes for the last track? That seemed excessive. There was a groove and I kinda dug it, but it did seem to go on way longer than I was expecting, and it just didn't hit me. Top tracks: title track, "No God Only Religion",

Eh, whatever? I legit forgot I listened to this the next day

to me, this album teetered between boring at times and at other times utter chaos. and not much in between.

Kind of annoying but then it turned a corner, then there was a song that was just feed back and that’s where I bounced.

10% good (e.g., Electricity), 90% infuriatingly annoying (e.g., Stay With Me). E.g., The Individual: 4 minutes of an air balloon squeeking over some electric droning? I'm sure that's violating some human rights charta. Giving 2 stars, barely, b/c of the few good parts.

A couple cool tracks, but more often than not I felt kinda underwhelmed.

This type of shit either really hits or it really don't. Today it didn't 4/10

Whiplash btwn very beautfiul orchestra and ... other stuff

Mostly quite boring and inoffensive, with some moments which are entirely unlistenable.

Long and meandering soundscape, I kind of liked their other album on this list better. This one had more 'wall of sound' type songs with lots going on and I didn't like the chaos.

Like a VERY 90's Pink Floyd! 2.5⭐️

Love the first song. The rest of the album was cool -- a bit Blur, a bit Yes, a bit all over the place but fun.

Honestly, it was unsettling. Like, first I heard what I figure was the main track, and then slowly shifted the focus to the cursed track that you can hear in the background and got creeped out

For some reason, I had it in my head that I didn’t like the previous Spiritualised album I’d heard (Lazer Guided Melodies). However, when I look back, I actually rated it quite highly. I don’t mind today’s album, but it would be a stretch to say I enjoyed it. It felt like it would be fine as background music, but not necessarily something I’d enjoy to sit and actively listen to. I’d say this album is fine, but ultimately forgettable for me, which is interesting since I’d apparently forgotten liking the other album.

Just doesn't quite work for me. By turns boring and irritating.

Another example of me acknowleding the music here, but this wasn’t my thing.

I have no idea how this group managed to take such a decadent, overdone work and make it the most BORING thing I've heard in a long while. It has no coherency. It's basically just a lot of sound all at once for a while, and then a REALLY boring ostinato

I apparently had to get so far away from this and so quickly that I never rated this. I was feeling like I'd nearly escaped it unscathed and had one track left and that track was seventeen minutes long. why

This is such a slog

Not great.

Very, very, very vibey, but not really my gig.

1. ladiez - 2 2. together - 1 3. love - 1 4. thoughtz - 1 5. ztay - 1.5 6. electricity - 0 7. brave - 1 8. individual - 1 9. broken - 2 10. religion - 1.5 11. uuavez - 1 12. cop - 0

Felt a bit much, enjoyable mostly though, high 2.

It’s okay. Not something I needed to hear before I died. It’s way too long

Strange…

Big sound, no songs

I'm a big fan of psychedelic rock, but this just sucks. It's so empty and yet full of sounds I've also heard before, but in a dull way I've never wished to hear. All hype, no fun. I guess I should call them the Oasis of psychedelia.

Well... This album has great arrangements, but seriously lack great and engaging compositions to back it all. It may feels spacey and psych, but it can hardly keep my attention for more than 1 song. I don't get why it's so appreciated.

Kokoelma epämääräistä musiikkia, suuri osa ei osunut omaan makuhermoon.

Not my favorite, weird to read and hear that this was someone’s “masterpiece”

This strikes me as a Radiohead that wasn’t weird enough to catch anyone’s eye. It’s ambient, raucous, sensitive, orchestral and many other things. Yet, somehow, in its totality it doesn’t reach great heights. To its credit, it sounds to me like this could be the precursor to a lot of 2000s sounds we got via Dark Was the Night, with broken social scene and others .

All songs very similar and too long. In fact, this album makes the 1001 too long album list. I’d like to pick a fav or worst song, but they’re all pretty much the same. Heard some musical instruments being used to make noise which I still don’t enjoy (2.0*s)

If you are a really huge Grateful Dead and Phish fan you can find an alternate psychedelic jam band in Spiritualized. Unfortunately, if you are just a casual fan (like me) I wouldn't bother. Overall I guess it's an OK space rock album but it's far too long and filled with a lot of filler that gets forgotten as soon it finished. There are a couple extended segments that I enjoyed (I Think I'm In Love), but overall it was pretty skippable. Not something I'll ever visit again but I guess glad for the exposure. 2.32 stars

Very much like Radiohead. Floaty and experimental noise soundscapes. Not really my jam.

A couple of songs weren't too bad, but most of it was just weird for weird's sake.

Hey I just got another album from these guys. Not too bad but I felt like it fell into “noise” more than music a lot of the time. My favorite parts of the albums were the slower, more stripped back songs.

This (aptly) has always floated on the edges of my consciousness as an album. It's right in my wheel house being late 90's British and a bit pompous (self burn), so when it flashed up I thought its an excellent time to give it some proper attention. Unfortunately I don't think it bears up to much scrutiny. After a listen through I came away very bored and confused. I read through other reviews and someone else explained it perfectly. It's got lush orchestration, layers upon layers, huge amounts of love and attention, but at its core the songs just really aren't any good. No lyrics, no hook, no tune made it out from under the layers and layers.

Groupe inconnu. => 2/5

Never heard of this band. A couple of the songs weren’t bad but overall not my style.

Weird not terrible

It was fine

Trying to be ambient but a bit underdeveloped for me.

The title track is alright but it's just Canon in D with repetitive words. So of course it's lovely, but low effort, really. Other than that, it's boring.

I don't really get this. Some of the songs were just a bunch of instruments playing off tune and over each other. Other songs were a little less chaotic. I could not finish the final song - 17 minutes of noise is ridiculous.

2 not great. Does way too much with any lasting impact. There were cool ideas throughout but that’s all they were. They never really came together

Even though it seems the first half of this album receives more plays than the last, I think I enjoyed the last half a bit more. At least it wasn't so dull. Not sure when I'd ever put something like this on.

Shoegaze disguished as "other" music. Two stars as the album does have a moment or two that are not completely shogazey. Two playthroughs and nothing really stands out.

But of a snoozefest

Pretty interesting / bizarre album. Some of it sounded like overly produced Britpop.

Meh. If they were going to put so much effort into this, they should have figured out how to write a song first.

Are they trying to fill up the emptiness of the space they are floating through? The songs are too long, there are often too many layers of sound (ends up being discordant rather than lush). Too bad the the whole album wasn't more pared down. Broken Heart was a real highlight for me, but overall this album would benefit from some editing.

Despite Spiritualized and Spacemen 3 having all the elements I typically enjoy in a band, their music ultimately falls flat for me. While their sound initially intrigues me, the lack of progression or depth leaves me feeling bored. It's like going on a journey that never really goes anywhere.

this did hurt me spiritually

It’s not my kind of vibe but I liked the violin

can't get this space rock

There were moments of this that I really liked. I have a lot of time for overblown dense production, and some of it was very cool here. Just not enough of it to overcome the underwhelming vocalist/lyrics. It’s rough when the main guy of something is the weakest part.

Thought for sure I'd like it more after reading about all the influences, but didn't really grab my attention. Even with the cool electronic and psych, there was some 90's Oasis stink that wouldn't go away. In the words of the other reviewer who said it best....a bit shit.

Not my cup of tea, but an ok album

Some pretty good stuff on here, but a little less consistent than I would like…

Only two half decent tracks... Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in space Electricity That makes it a 2

I feel like maybe my afternoon cuppa meant I wasn't correctly medicated to enjoy this right through for the first time. Touches of updated Hawkwind, bits of the Velvets' extended jams, but it felt a bit too indulgent by the end.

I've not heard this album in decades. I've no idea what I thought was the attraction all those years ago. It starts off soothing, but becomes sickly after a while. That last track at 17 mins was a bloody awful racket. I bailed five minutes in.

background music

It's like... Noise.

Quite boring. As busy and dense as the instrumentals are, they just end up sounding quite flat and lifeless. The vocals do this no favours, lacking in any charisma or edge.

Not my thing.

Title track is great. Rest is noise.

A bit too much going on in this one, did not like.

It’s not terrible but it’s not my thing.

There is some interesting stuff on one side, but it is drowned in endless repetitions. Try this: start listening to a track, then skip forward a bit, listen again, then repeat a few times. It will nearly always sound the same. There is no real development.

Some genuinely great moments on this album, however, it's really brought down by alot of its slower/ mellow songs.

Not my cup of tea.

The epic sounds of drug induced boredom.

Stör mig väldigt på varierande volym. Låter som att det skulle kunna vara 70-tal. Har samma konstiga ljud och långa låtar. Electricity är rätt bra, även om den också har massa oljud. The Individual är helt klart värst hittills.

I may change my mind at some point but despite this albums beauty I find it difficult to get through. Beautifully produced but ponderous in ways that make it hard for me to enjoy.

the opening is so beautiful, and then there are at least 3 extended noise jams. fuuuuuuuuck no.

Not for me.

The title track is 5/5, the rest is not for me, unfortunately.

It starts out pretty decent but quickly becomes so boring and annoying. It picks up again with Electricity but just falls again after

Esse aqui foi complicado kkakakk

I expected more

Brit Pop with grandiose ambitions. The songs are not really good, and the arrangements are much too busy. This is exhausting. 2/5

Blind album and artist. Know the album by name and the artist because of that, but that doesn't redeem this album in anyway. Glad I can say I tried it, but this was not for me at all. At least the title track was alright and creative.

I was going to do a track by track review of this but I just found myself feeling nothing at all listening to most of the tracks. It's like a big mishmash of cerebral nothing. I guess the sonics of the whole thing are kind of cool, but I found myself looking forward to it being over already.

Only if I’m baked. 2.5 stars.

Just couldn't get into this. Though, I recognized the Title track from somewhere.

Pretty rough. Might be inclined to give it just one star but I did like the opening track and in between there were some cool sounds.

Not really my thing

I could take or leave this one.

This album was very psychedelic and I feel like I need to be high while listening to it I like Cop Shoot Cop but I wish it was shorter

I’d rather take my 70 min elsewhere, if I want psychedelic pop rock, I’ll look to the Beatles

A pretty epic experimental rock album. Play at medium volume and chiiiiillllllll…

Poor-man’s Gorillaz.

Puuh, kuorolaulantaa ja muuta kamalaa. Taas ois muutama ihan ok biisi seassa, mutta yleiskuva on kyllä mitäänsanomaton ja tylsä. Huonot kohdat jää mieleen yli hyvien kohtien. 2/5

I'm pressed to find anything remarkable about this album. I think its trying to be clever or deep, but all I can hear is smug bullshit. 2/5

Just okay

I don’t like this. I’m on track 4 and it just feels like an early shoegaze Pink Floyd album, before David Gilmour. Or Yes. I feel like I’m listening to the same riff on repeat with every song. The first song sounds awfully similar to Canon in D. I made it to track 7 before I tapped out.

Is this a cover band? Not the worst thing I've ever heard though

A bit of a mess really, an uncomfortable noise at times, but theres also some good stuff on here. I found it a bit dull and boring though, so a standard 2 stars is the most generous I can be in.

I had never heard of this before, and at first I was intrigued. As it went on though, it just felt like it would never end.

Some songs I enjoyed, others I really disliked.

Cool vibe, but not really impacting me. Sort of forgettable.

Sometimes it kind of lulls you to sleep with the spacey soft rock vibes, then pounds you in the face and wakes you up with some sweet riffs. If one were indeed floating in space, this would be a good soundtrack for the adventure. On earth, it feels just ok.

Not my thing but kept my attention enough to avoid 1 star treatment.
