Reviews (page 6 of 8)

mh - ein gut gemachtes Album. Interessant. Nichts was einen Begeistert: Keine "Ohrwurm-Gefahr".

Not bad at all

Thought this was great and will go back to it.

This was really interesting. I really like how almost every song is based on a riff or phrase / line(s) from a famous songs by other artists. Unfortunately i dont have the time to really sit with and experience this record. I think it would be good on a great stereo.

Favorites were "Broken Heart" and "Cool Waves"

First song was too good compared to the rest

I liked it but felt the lyrics were a bit weak

Good mostly

Ganska schysst ändå några lugna nice låtar.

I think I liked it but also kinda don't remember even though I just finished listening. Seems consistent with other reviews, ha.

love the first and third track and the rest of the album was an easy listen.

Sadly, this wasn't quite as good as I remembered it being. I absolutely love Spirtualised when they're being all floaty and dreamy, but I'd forgotten that there's quite a bit of fairly bog-standard indie/Britpop. Often he sounds like he's choosing to sing badly, when you know he can do better. Still very enjoyable and nostalgic, but a bit of a disappointment.

The album instantly hits you with a fully realized version of multiple music tropes. You have the "I Can't Help Falling In Love With You" cover, you've got the Canon in D like chord progression, and you've got it all under the veil of British sadness that was oh so prevalent. Normally this would be a terrible combination that I would hate listening to even a second of, but Spiritualized does it with such finesse and beauty that its hard not to be blown away by something you've assuredly heard thousands of times in other songs. Perhaps its the space-age instrumentation, or the layering upon layering of vocals, all until your brain is fuzzy, but no matter what it is great, and was worth the price of admission alone. However, the rest of the album is mostly a snooze fest, ranging from generic 90s rock that doesn't stand out whatsoever among its contemporaries, to music that is just random noises for the sake of what I can only assume is creating the best drug trip album ever, and not actually for the sake of music. Sometimes you will get something good peeking through, such as the devastating Broken Heart or the Pink Floyd-inspired Stay With Me and Cop Shoot Cop... but most of this album is forgettable to even bad at points, and should have honestly stuck with the "floating in space" mindset the first track nails, rather than bringing it back down to Earth for needless blues rock-esque numbers and thinking random instruments layered with no cohesion is even kind of achieving the effect they're going for. If anything its sobering, which is not a good thing for this sort of album. Its an album with hints of something better, but the best way to describe it is as a disappointment, with moments that shine through to keep the experience somewhat positive. I was, however, just waiting for the whole album to end so I could re-listen to the first track again, so I'd say stick with that one.

Best taken in small doses.

Kinda cool esp for its time. Kinda spacey

best song is the first one a little bit of a sleeper album

A quirky album with some interesting soundscapes but not many songs really "sparked joy".

Voice reminds me of Gorillaz. Some grungy chaotic rock with harmonica. Some choir mixed in. 'Cool Waves' has a good vibe.

Ladies and Gentlemen: Like the opening, suitably grand, cool dissolve into Elvis/Willie classic Come together: the SCU fi primal scream, fun enough, this is rockier than I assumed I think I’m in love: Slightly less substantial, but a nice enough album track, nice brass All of my thoughts: Stay with me: Lullaby sleepy, works great Elrectricity: fine Home of the Brave: lyricall a bit of a trope, I’m so drugged up, production and soundscape is fine but nothing too substantial Broken Heart has Mercury Rev vibes, sad stately strings, fragile vocal No God Only Religion: it’s fine, an above average psyche freak out, but as A Day in the life is the only one of those I genuinely love, not saying much Cop Shoot Cop: I like this, but just nicks John Prine lyrics.

Listened 3/17/24. A new one for me. I remeber hearing about the band and maybe hearing a song or two back in the day. I'm glad this one popped up in my list. I definitely will be listening to this one again.

Never heard of this band. Interesting mix of genres, surprisingly good.

I'd categorize this as white noise. didnt really stick out but it wasnt so bad I had to turn it off. I had it on while working and it served its purpose

C+ But don’t ask me about the album because it was so C+ absolutely nothing stood out to me. It wasn’t a terrible listening experience… just completely forgettable

pretty cool throughout. maybe a low 4 but it felt long in the middle so high 3

Nice surprise. Sounds like this album may have inspired Tadiohead and The Flaming Lips. I like the experimental jam sections.

First track was nice, some other cool tracks throughout

more interesting to listen to with headphones so you can hear everything going on in the background. some great melodies on here and I like the gospel choir. some songs like The Individual and Cop Shoot Cop go on too long and sound too crazy and noisy. parts sound psychedelic and you can hear some blues influence also.

Cool and chill, will listen again

I feel like this thing has been recommended to me more times than I can count. It was okay I guess. The first song was the best one. The last song went on and on and on. It was not worthy of the hype really.

some good tracks, but couldn't finish the 12+ minute songs that draaagged on and on

I quite enjoyed some of the songs on this album, but points off for a 17 minute long song

It’s good but overstays its welcome. “Cop Shoot Cop…” did NOT have to be 17 minutes long and full of unnecessary filler.

Enjoyed more than their other album I listened to previously. But still pretty slow and not a lot interesting about it

Was always aware of Spiritualized but hadn’t consciously listened or took much notice. I thought that they were similar to The Chemical Brothers or some other electro dance outfit but didn’t know really what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised and quite liked about half the tracks on this album. As I’m into ambient sounds these were the slower and quieter tracks. The rest, although inoffensive did tend to drone on a bit. The same sounds droning on in a loop and not getting anywhere so becoming a bit boring. However my interest has been perked to an extent that I will research more recent releases and if I see this album on CD going cheap anywhere I will buy it.

This was a nice surprise. At the very least it started strong and it's hard to argue with. Losing focus on the back half may have more to do with my day than the album. But then they should've planned for me having busy days so one star off for them.

It was pleasant to listen to but not an album I'll be putting on my phone to carry around with me

Very instrumental, shine on vibes Long ass ending track I liked it but didn’t care for the lyrics at all 3.2/5

A lot going on, it can feel meandering at times, but that kinda seems like the point. Some really cool sounds and ideas that I could see connecting with more when I'm in a certain mood.

Interesting "modern" psychedelic music. I love the genre but don't love this. It's too bright. I'm not even sure what that means but that's what it sounds like to me.

Mostly uninteresting background music. Saved 3 tracks and Broken Heart was beautiful and sad.

has a pretty strong start, but overall way too long

Solo conocía la primera canción. No está mal pero cansino a ratos.

I surprisingly liked this one!

Lush, ethereal sound. A little soft for my taste

Better than I had expected, but not as good as I had hoped. Overall to long.

pretty good noise

Weird nonsense but I can't deny there's something there.

Well produced album but largely forgettable.

The album sound definitely matches the title. The album was pretty good, not sure I would regularly listen.

Wanted to love this but didn’t. It’s good, don’t get me wrong, but it feels like it’s missing something.

There were a couple songs I liked but this wouldn't be an album I'd listen to on my own

Think I’d enjoy it more with a nice drink and/or a good smoke.

Don't remember specifics of this album, but I do remember it was well worth the listen.

If only the rest of the album was as cool as the first song ...

Sounds like Blur crossed with Primal Scream. It’s good, not great. Lots of Stone Roses, Velvet Underground and Jesus and Mary Chain influences. Not offensive or too much of anything. Nicely balanced. Fine for a mix. I’d go as far as to say that, because they are so much like other bands, they almost don’t have their own sound. It’s hard to crave something that is just like everything else. I’ll just listen to the original instead.

Finally listened to this. The good was punctuated by the bad which was just noise??

The Individual is terrible. The last song goes on for too long but this sounds like Dark Side of the Moon part 2. Ez 3.5

the first song is very good. the rest not so much.

Sometimes they sound like they are doing a Bowie impression, other times they sound like proto Gorillas

Real nice atmospheric album. The addition of orchestra throughout is great. The opener especially is fantastic! Not really that much in the singer’s voice though. 7 out of 10

Litt rart

What if tame impala had more than 2 good songs? (Tha last song really bothered me tho)

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space by spiritualized, Come together

Breathy and noise-like.

Actually pretty good, lil random but it got me invested after a while

Oasis Meets The Beach Boys Great harmonic soundscapes and average grungy leads. I liked it, though.

Some great instrumentals but the vocals and lyrics didn't do too much for me.

Some lovely anthemic moments and some noisy wanging on

Theres a lot of sounds on this album between traditional rock instruments and horns and violins they kind of do a little bit of everything here. As the Album progresses it feels like it gets more experimental with I don't know how to describe it other than a cacophony of sound that kind of works if I'm being honest. This album isn't bad but I don't know if it's production or what but despite having all these sounds going on it just comes off sounding pretty flat. Nothing on here really stood out other than just being a decent one time listen.

I had no idea what to expect from this one and it sure is something. They were looking for IT for sure. Did they find IT? Not sure but this was weird and ambitious so it goes in the give it another listen Someday pile.

Enjoyed most. Alot of unorganized noise in sections but many moments of beauty. Broken heart was a huge standout. 3.5

Pretty boring and long.Nothing super interesting.

Kinda flowed through me without really sticking. Pleasant and varied.

So this turned out to be better than I was expecting. There’s still some annoying songs, but there’s also some really good ones.

This is a tough album to rate. The first song came on, and I was like “Yeah! I may have found a new band to listen to! Space rock? I dig it.” Then the crazy distorted noise effects started happening on multiple songs, and I felt like I was playing Russian Roulette with the options being a calm, soothing, floaty song or being stuck in a meat grinder as someone is perpetually welding. C’est la vie. I’m still giving this a 3-star because the first song is essentially a mash-up of Elvis and Pachelbel’s Canon in D on drugs, and I’m here for it.

A few good songs here, but a lot that I thoroughly disliked, as well. It just went on and on and on forever with no end.

Started out with potential. Got noisy in the middle. "The Individual" is awful. I did not make it to the epic 17 minute final song. I don't think I missed out on much. I really liked the title song with it's homage to Elvis.

Literally had to check and see if Sufjan Stevens was part of this group. But another exercise in “this group did it first” So weirdly 90s mixed with sort of ethereal. Enjoyed after spacemen 3 which was a little to psychedelic. This toned it down nicely and was a better meld

Bonico.

Even after finishing this, I'm still surprised how much I enjoyed this. I will probably go back and listen to this while high sometime.

Pleasant to listen to but not especially amazing.

Really enjoyed it, definitely worth the listen.

Not for me

Bonico.

Coolt men talar inte till mig riktigt

Too much cacophony in the soundscape for me to enjoy it.

Very much of the music is just noise. But very organized and thought out noise. 3,5/5.

I was a big fan of Spacemen 3 back in the day, and always felt that Spiritualized were okay, but not quite up to the same standard. Jason took the gospel/ soul elements and dialled them up to ten and that wasn't the part of the music I liked the most. This album was more of a return to form I felt and I enjoyed it when it was first released. However, it's not an album I would listen to over and over again, like the Spacemen 3 material. There's a mixture between space rock, psychedelia, laid back drone sounds, with the aforementioned gospel elements thrown in. Listening to it now, for the first time in a couple of decades, it's actually a bit better than I remembered. I don't like some of the songs, the slow ones with just singing and not much instrumental accompaniment, they're just a bit dull. This makes the end result a strong 3 stars.

Lots of good, lots of stoner jamz

A tad boring, if I’m being honest. Original, but not exciting. 3/5

I don’t even miss you But that’s ‘cause I’m fucked up.

This was an interesting album, a wide range of moods and styles.

first time listening favorites ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space stay with me broken heart

A lot of chaos

Interesting.

the title track is unironically one of the saddest songs of all time as the album progresses, it gets less interesting though 3.5

Some great tunes, but tends to just noise in the end.

This album was pretty okay. The last song being 17 minutes long was absolutely insane though.

Beetje als And they will know us by the trail of dead. Mooie nummers, met ook een paar kutnummers

it’s hard to live up to the opening song, but the rest of the album gets pretty close! I love the performances on here, everything comes together so well and the mix is great. Some tracks drag a bit and the album as a whole is very long but that’s not necessarily bad. Best tracks: title track, no god only religion, come together

Mezcla de estilos psicodélicos. Algunas canciones buenas, otras malas y otras a la vez buenas y malas...

Bonico.

So I listened to this in two halves over two days and they were very different experiences. I do think the tracks improve as it goes on for the most part, but my moods were vastly different and my tolerance for this kind of Floydian music is VERY dependant on my mood - context! Anyway I feel like this would rock the house live, but it's never been my favourite stuff to listen to at home. For a proggy vibe I tend to go a bit darker, and either more or less full on. The heavier, noisier tracks appealed to me much more in that vein, while the playful stuff I really didn't feel gelled well. On a good day a four, a bad day a three, so three and a half. Fave track: No God Only Religion

Couldn't get to the end of it. Apart from a couple of tracks found it tedious and boring

Nice to meet you😉. Good rock album, but not unique enough in his kind. Sounds to much like oasis, and in one song the intro is the same as in sweater song from yo la tengo. Individual is too noisy. I do like the variation in songs and the more quite ones, eg broken heart. Will i listen to it much? Probably not. Will i like to see a gig from him. If possible, sure.

Another sunny day at Miki and Piero’s. Already listened to album. 18th March Saturday.

wasn't sure how i was going to feel about this one. started off strong - the first song was def my favorite. enjoyed cool waves too. the others, eh. its not terrible, but i dont think i would choose to sit down and listen to it. there was one song (half way through somewhere) that I had to skip halfway through. some of the "extra noises" got a bit much, lol. like i said, 2 good songs, the rest weren't bad - just not my cup of tea. 5/10

I guess the vibes were good. This is the most recommended album from all the music services algorithms I’ve had. Really had no idea what to expect on this one. I expect I should have just laid on my floor and listened to this instead. Maybe I’ll still do that.

Totalmente desconocidos

I mostly enjoyed this, but these shoegaze/jam/whatever bands need to know that some of us can't take more than 6 bars of the same thing.

Whole lot of noise that was

The mellow parts were nice. Some good songs some not. Sometimes too much noise at once for too long. Not something I would put on unless in a very specific mood.

Rich mid-90's psych-rock. Philosophical and spacious as implied by the name. Good heavy bits and good writing, nothing crazy though

Owned it, but only ever played the first 2 or 3 songs, which must mean something

It's good enough rock but didn't take me places. If those three central circles on the cover were a venn diagram representing the album, I'd title them: dreary, spacey and delirious.

Ambitious, spacy, great use of layered sounds and vocals. Noisy, tonally a little inconsistent, swinging back and forth between ethereal and brassy. This would work better with another vocalist. Fave Songs: Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space (I Can't Help Falling in Love), Broken Heart, Stay with Me, Cool Waves, No God Only Religion

There’s no denying the lushness of the production or the ambition of the arrangements. But with over 50 collaborators, Ladies and Gentlemen… suffers from too many fingers in the pie: the listener is left unsure exactly what Spiritualized intends this album to be.

this was an unusual album! overall it was peaceful, ethereal. there's a sci fi element, too--which has definitely been done before, but with the muted and easy tone of the album, the combination is what made it unique. somehow the entire album had this muted tone, like it always felt farther away as you reached. that allowed the album to be cohesive. spiritualized went in a lot of different directions but didn't lean too much in one direction, yet that muted sense connected the album together. as mentioned, spiritualized did a lot here but not in an overly ambitious way that causes an album to be too muddled. "ladies and gentlemen we are floating in space" sampled elvis. they have a fair amount of instrumental numbers, almost bordering on progressive. not to mention the range of instruments used. the horns and saxophones were used well--ok, almost. while i'm sure there was a thematic purpose for the discordant noises during the end of "no god only religion," i don't know if the ends were worth the means. and that instrumental title was accurate and descriptive, which is something i always enjoy. and even when i first listened to "broken heart," i felt my stomach drop because of the title's accuracy. there was a splash of punk, too. dr. john making an appearance is a great, unexpected addition. i found this to be a unique album, but i'm finding it very difficult to rate fairly. there were some ups and downs, but in general it was a smooth listen.

"The best known and most critically acclaimed of these is 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, which NME magazine named as their Album of the Year, beating other critically acclaimed albums by fellow British bands such as OK Computer by Radiohead and Urban Hymns by The Verve.[1]" How the hell did this beat OK computer??? They sound like an above-average Radiohead cover band with more instruments.

At some point in my life I wanted more Spacemen 3 but got this instead. /uj According to the "cafe rating scale", this is a 3 (I would not flee). The difference between a 2 and a 3 is largely hostility. Even if this record and that Tom Waits one are basically equivalent in how much "active interest" I have in them, Tom Waits carries "active repulsion" so he's going to get a 2 while this doesn't.

This album's effectiveness is wholly elevated from "Broken Heart" onward; really feels like a transition into emotional weightlessness. Much of it leaves me feeling cold, however.

It was ok. A big album that loses its mind towards the end, and arguably better. Feels like a time and place sort of thing – at the time this would have cracked some heads open. I think worth listening to again, felt like a forerunner to Sufjan Stevens

Interesting Listen. I liked some of the songs

I've never got this band. Jason sings far too many woe is me lyrics and the delicate followed by the wall of sound seems too repetitive across the albums. Not for me

Sounding just like Screamadelica and only 6 years later.

Dark Side of the Moon, Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space прекрасен.

6,5/10

Done this one already, an here are my thoughts from a year ago; The opening track is earth shatteringly beautiful and one I've loved for ages. I never got far into the rest of the album before though. Come Together is good, but a bit sludgy, like Primal Scream at their dullest. I Think I'm in Love won me back again though, beautiful and layered and textural and sad. By All Of My Thoughts I'm starting to wonder if every track really needs a full wall of sound freakout - it leaves a lot of the songs feeling a bit too similar. Final thoughts - every time this goes slow and vulnerable, it's amazing. Every time it tries to be 'rock and roll' it's dull. Had three tracks been dropped it'd be a five star album.

Weirddddddd but a vibe

I've gone back and forth on this between a 1, 2 or 3. Broken Heart, which seems like a filler sing might actually be my favorite. However, every song is just a wall of sound. I don't mind that at all but it's almost every song, all song. Listening to this was very tiring on my ears.

The Typical fluffy sound of Space Rock without drums is not my cup of tea. The first song had me worried. The songs on this album that have drums, raunchy guitar playing and an avante garde sound work nicely although I could have survived without hearing minutes 10-17 of Cop shoot Cop.

I love the album title, and the decision to bring in a string quartet and choir to give it a spacey feel, especially on the title track, \"Broken Heart\" and “Cool Waves”. Someone said this LP was high on the list of great albums to listen to stoned, which I agree with, with it’s ever-changing moods and jarring builds. “Cop-Shoot Cop” goes a bit too far.

There are two good songs on this album, the title track and Broken Heart. I like them because they don’t have the trade mark Brit-pop sound where everyone sings like Oasis.

Pink Floyd meets 1990s indie optimism meets an electric organ. It's pretty likeable - although I've listened to it numerous times over the years and it's never left a lasting impression. There's a nice balance between the bright anthemic meets and the discordant & abstract collage bits that glue it together. I'm not sure the introduction of a string quartet and a gospel choir is handled that well. Feels a bit "wouldn't it be cool to have some violins here", which is often the case when rock bands do this. The pacing of the album is also a bit off: tracks 8-9 wind down so much, a big chunk of the album feels like you're waiting for it to finish.

This is a decent album. I definitely would listen to this album on a Saturday afternoon when I am just relaxing around the house.

Ok electronica. Probably won’t relisten

Not my style

between 3 and 4

I really like the concept they created that informs the album, and they perform very well. At times, I must confess, I was a little put off by the "stoner rock" sound that showed up a little too often for my liking. Overall, though, this is interesting work and I'm glad I got to hear it. Love the cover art, too.

There's something to be said for having a recipe. The one ingredient I didn't care for was "unrecognizable guitar sounds". Otherwise, it's OK.

Woah I am intrigued by the story of the frontman and keys player breaking up before recording this after she secretly married the guy from the Verve!!!! What a dick haha! I can't imagine how that must have affected the recording of this album. I'm intrigued also from the opening track already. Love that with the little appearance of Can't Help Falling in Love With You which is a great tune. It has a great and unusual sound with many layers to the album. Not exactly what I expected and I'm interested to now listen to their very new album from this year. Some of the tracks I find a little stressful and some of them I almost lose interest but there's normally quickly something that pulls me back in with the strange electronic sounds.

I'm finding it hard to say what I made of this. Was an odd album! I went from thinking I didn't like it at the beginning and found the songs a bit cringey to getting into it more (one song reminded me of BCNR - no god only religion) then feeling confused by the end. Maybe I need to listen again

This was pretty cool

Very dreamy, cool and floaty. My cat lay next to the speaker for the whole album and looked very chilled. He definitely gives a thumbs up for the vibe. I remember when this came out, and I loved Come Together. That and Broken Heart were definitely worth listening to again. Friday afternoon chill!

I enjoyed it but it didn’t seem to flow very well

Reminded me of Pink Floyd. Nothing too mind blowing. It was enjoyable.

Grows on you after repeated plays

It was fine. Nothing spectacular, but nothing bad

Skränigt, stökigt och monotont. Inte alls illa men öronen tar stryk i längden.

Slow but interesting

Really enjoyed the mix of faster and slower songs. the harmonica and the collaboration with the orchestra.

This one fucking confused me. No clue what I think. Some bits I really liked, some I actively hated - way too excessive. Maybe having a joint before re-listening will open my eyes. One to return to.

All floaty floaty but what’s it all for? There’s a big ambition sound here which often sounds grand and great and there’s much craft here but I’m left a little cold.

Kinda weird.

Never understood the hype about this band/project, even though they have nice cover artwork saying something about modern music consumption being like medication to the masses. Maybe that explains part of their appeal, ironically speaking. But when your *subsequent* album covers use the same frigging idea all over again, it's not merely lack of imagination that expresses itself. It's a sign you're becoming the very thing you were smirking about in the first place. As for the music, there is a lot of skill and nice instrumentation throughout, saving this record from a two-star grade. Said instrumentation goes from string laments and old seventies-like rock to noisy dirges and groovy moments--the latter somewhat foretelling what LCD Soundsystem would do in the next decade, but without the fun club pulse or drive. Most of the melodies and vocal lines are pretty unmemorable or unremarkable, however. Some of them are even *excruciatingly* boring. It's as if the sophisticated, multi-layered instrumentation was trying hard to make up for the lack of inspiration plaguing the songwriting. And it often shows. So I guess I won't drink that kool-aid everyone else seems to be drinking now. Nevermind if it's my loss. I'm pretty sure I can find more potent drugs elsewhere anyway. Number of albums left to review: 768 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 117 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 57 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 58 (including this one)

When I checked this album out I originally thought the run time of an hour and 10 minutes was, shall we say, 'ambitious'. Now having actually listened to it, I have to say I never once thought to skip or otherwise shorten the play. Not quite sure how to describe the sound but I had flashes of the doors and pink floyd and, over all, it didn't suck entirely It's an hour I'm glad I allowed myself to experience.

It’s so beautiful!! And then it gets all a bit… angry?!

Very hip with lots of sound and space.

Strong start and end but very non-cohabilitating sounds

Not bad

one of them albums that's just noise. i liked the first song and then the rest is a blur. the last one is like 16 minutes long wtf? um yeah i dont know i mean i liked it i think?

Psychedelic, spacend, some great tracks ('Ladies and..', 'Electricity') but some parts are a bit too weird ('All of My Thoughts', 'The Individual').

Some of this was cool chill music 4 stars and some was just noise

This album started strong but it's very long and definitely lost me a little over halfway through. There's a lot of depth here, and this is the kind of album you definitely want to have some headphones on for to really let everything shine through. Also may benefit from the influence of psychedelics to really enjoy. The highs are high, first four tracks are solid as is Electricity. But the lows are also very low, really didn't like the attempts at being 'trippy' in a few of the songs that just really didn't land well.

Absolutely bonkers variety show. I had this one in my iTunes library already, probably just for how odd the title is. Not sure I'd listened to it before, but overall I definitely enjoyed it. A few cuts that stuck with me, but the general feeling I got is that this group is kind of exploring all the territory they can. Some sprawling tracks, especially that closer, that cover a lot of ground. Somewhere between like a Radiohead and a King Gizzard (their softer stuff at least). Our first from Spiritualized, but I wouldn't mind another. Favorite tracks: I Think I'm In Love, Broken Heart, Cop Shoot Cop. Album art: Very clinical. I've seen this one before, it's intriguing. Doesn't give much away, but the very straight-laced mathematic design catches the eye. I like it. 3.5/5

Another "it's fine, good background music" album.

Some good songs some bad, experimental and cool

This is one I had heard about but never got around to listening to. Impressed with the combinations of genres. Don’t like the songs that overwhelm with too much of a wall of sound.

I think if this album was a little shorter I might have enjoyed it more. Overall it wasn't bad but not quite my style. 2.5 but I'll round to 3.

Very interesting how pop songs are woven into some of these. That's exactly what this album is: interesting.

I like it, but I won't listen to it a second time in the next few months

Actually enjoyed this quite a bit. Very unique and mysterious

Wowaweewah! That's a big album. Pretty melodic and dreamy in places, but not a bunch of tunes I feel the need to revisit often.

over-hyped

If you want to know what Pink Floyd would have sounded like if they started in the 90s instead, listen to this album. It was an interesting journey from start to finish as I had no idea what to expect next. Probably wouldn’t listen again.

I can't say this one really grabbed me. It's definitely musically very impressive but I didn't really latch onto any tracks in particular.

I thought for sure this was gonna be too weird, but it turned out to be just weird enough. I liked it.

Pretty decent space rock. Album starts off strong but gets a bit unremarkable about halfway through

didn't finish listening to it but amazing sound. It reminds me of Duster

some very cool parts. Some meh parts.

Neither here nor there

Enjoyed it

Interesting, space rock with a couple of good songs. Not amazing though.

The review I wrote for this didn’t go though and I don’t feel like recreating it. Too much shoegaze lately in a nutshell.

Spiritualizedin tuotannosta ennakkoon tuttua oli oikeastaan vaan levyn avaus/nimikappale. Ennakko-olettamuksena olikin että koko levy on samanlaista eteeristä kikkailua. Yllätys heti toisen kappaleen rokkimeiningeissä olikin oikein positiivinen. Vaikka siis toki myös avauskappale on genrensä helmiä! Saman genren helmeksi osoittautui myös Broken Heart. Mainiota!

Ladies and gentleman, this album is overrated (kidding). I liked some moments on here, but it's not as special as people make it out to be.

I really liked the first song and the unique take on "Can't Help Falling In Love" but after that my feelings aren't so clear. Everything was decently put together but not really my thing. 3.5 stars.

Good, but felt kinda generic at times

It was OK... Worked well as background music for working. I don't think I'd listen for pleasure...

Ladies and Gentlemen...is really atmospheric, emotive, uplifting and downcast in equal measure, but I really enjoyed it. Stay with Me is a great track, I tend to like big walls of noise if they're able to make me feel something and have a purpose, and this seems to accomplish that. Goes on a bit and it's a little samey but a high 3/5 for sure.

Took a few listens to get into it but it was rewarding once I did. I particularly enjoyed "I think I'm in love" and "Cop Shoot Cop"

Good but not my fav of theirs

Probably their best album but still a bit droney for my tastes or to keep me interested for a full album. Cop vs cop is excellent. 3 🌟

First half was a five. Second half was a 2. Final score 3..... shame

Yeah, whatever

Some genuinely brilliant songs here, loved the second half more than the first half, but I don't think it was anything life changing. Probably should've listened to this smoking a J, but I didn't. 3.5/5

This was a new band and new music for me. I'm not sure where to put this album. I heard music that reminded me of Badly Drawn Boy, Damon Albarn or Oasis - and I like at least some music from each of those artists. There were also tracks that I definitely would skip ("All of My Thoughts", "Come Together", "The Individual"). I do not expect to listen to this album again, so rounding up to three stars is an okay measure of this listening experience.

Strong 3, i was in space

Some really nice songs (ladies and gents, broken heart) and I liked the start of good cop bad cop but not the last 8 mins or so. Overall pretty good! 6/10

Epic sound but falls short on songwriting ability. 2.5

5/10 it was interesting. really beautiful at some parts and really really hard to listen to at others.

Väldigt stor skillnad i känsla låtarna emellan. All in all är det ett bra album, klart godkänt! Bäst: Gillar nog ändå "Come together" bäst. Oasis är ju fina.

I listened to some of this a few weeks ago... Crazy, I know.

Pretty trippy and ambient, I didn't mind this.

A lovely wallow in late 90s drug-fuelled indie.

the instrumentation and mixing is incredible, truly like a spaceship, but the vocalist…doesnt do it for me most of the time.

I dont if I really like this, I gave a chance, I think it's the genre. The couple of songs did listen to were alright, but definitely not my cup of tea

Interesting - a new album for me

A lot of noise. I like chaotic and experimental music, but I was starting to get a bit annoyed after the third warbly noisy song in a row. The title track is genuinely amazing, so is the 17-minute long finale "Cop Shoot Cop". Not the biggest fan of the middle, but songs like "I Think I'm In Love" and "Broken Heart" nicely break up the tinnitus.

Cerebral. Love the reimagining of Can't Help Falling In Love right off the bat. Rest of the album's a mixed bag, but fascinating sound.

Nice production but writing was a bit dull

weird but fun

Not really space rock as much as it is space themed. Not bad, but far too long and by the end they lose concept and just start shoegazing.

Decent space rock, was a bit confused though as to why in the midst of the album the sound drastically changed from rock to almost only ballads

It was Ok

Multistyled post-Roses grooves, borrowing Oasis's played-out schtick of nicking from familiar songs to prick up the ears. Interesting, pre-Grandaddy sci-fi buzz. Likeable.

90s alt rock baby. Definitely some Stone Roses, The La's, maybe even Oasis vibes, but there's also some nice detours from that sound in the latter half of the album

Another album with lots of noise, although the style of this noise is a little more in line with my current mood than most. It has an experimental feel to it, and the singing is so subdued that I actually can't state or even recall a single lyric. As such, it can't really be any better than 3 stars, which is where I'll leave it.

There was a lot of this album that I really enjoyed. I really liked the first three three tracks, and Broken Heart. I did not enjoy the long, unpleasant, discordant sections in many of the songs. A bonus that "Cop Shoot Cop" quoted John Prine, a minus that it went on for 17 minutes with an unlistenable, interminable center.

Haven't we already listened to this? A lot of these records from the mid-90s are all running together. I liked the first few songs: the title track, Come Together (not the Beatles), and I Think I'm in Love (with lyrics like "Just me and my spike in my arm and my spoon," think more Lou Reed's Perfect Day than Eddie Money's song with almost the same title). Sorta liked Electricity. But the rest was unmemorable and felt endless. Are the 1990s overrepresented in the 1001 Albums book or is the randomization front loading the 90s records for us? Everything's starting to sound the same!

I'm a bigger fan of Spacemen 3 as they had a raw quality that was more compelling to me. Though I do like much of this album and respect it's ambition, it's too damn long and gets boring in places.

Back in the day I loved the first track and when I was super sad at times I really liked "Broken Heart", was brutally sad but when you get broken up with its... yeah. Beyond that, I wouldn't want to listen to them on the regular. As for the rest of the album, I don't particularly care for it, but it's just standard brit-rock. I can't believe this beat OK Computer in 97 for album of the year in NME though, ouch.

I don't really care for the musical style on a lot of the tracks, but it is really well performed and produced with some HUGE sections in some of the songs. Makes me think it would be better live in parts. Love the album name though

Nice enough background music (listened whilst cracking on with some work one afternoon). Doesn't do enough for me to lift it into the "elite" category though.

A psychedelic wall of sound with elements of drone, gospel, classical and jazz. In parts its brilliant, in other parts it’s a bloated and self-indulgent mess. It’s overly long as well, ‘Cop Shoot Cop’ being a major culprit coming in with a 17-minute runtime. In the end these flaws in execution cause the album to fall short of its ambition.

It wasn't my jam. I do enjoy some alternative rock but space rock is not something I have listened to much before. I would give it 3/5 because there were some good tracks on the album but overall not really my cup of tea.

chaotic psychedelic space rock.

Mezcla de estilos psicodélicos. Algunas canciones buenas, otras malas y otras a la vez buenas y malas...

5/10 Chill, soft music Uninteresting lyric Not very memorable lyric / voice

Idk kind of boring to me. I know Spiritualized is well respected. I've tried with this album a couple times and nothing brings me back to it.

Pretty interesting alternative album. Felt like it had some Pink Floyd influences on some tracks. Never really felt like any track stood out but it was a pretty easy listen and maybe one I’d revisit. 6.1/10

Mellow

Very average...

When this album is quiet I love it and when it gets loud I stop loving it. Loved the first song with my whole heart though. Broken Heart and Cool Waves were also gorgeous. It’s obnoxious to say but it felt very Lynchian to me!

Had some standouts but a lot was only moderately interesting

Eh. I know this one gets massive kudos for what it is, and in the psych circles this one gets brought up a lot. But personally it just doesn't really fit the bill and is a little lacking in spacey-ness and heavy on vocals.

Groovy, but meh

Pretty chill listen mostly with a few more erratic songs. Mellow tunes flow beneath some grungier blasé lyrics. Floating in space, think I’m in love, stay with me

Background, not that memorable

I like it good music to learn stuff with

Banda de rock espacial que desconocía. Grata sorpresa la canción Stay with me.

I feel like this space rock album was already extremely dated in the late 90s and should have belonged more to the mid 80s. It was fine, pleasant background listening, but really just not interesting enough for much more than that. I had to skip The Individual because it was too distracting, but then the very next one, Broken Heart, was really good and possibly the highlight of the album.

As an album closer, Cop shoot Cop is show-stoppingly brilliant. The rest of the album however is mostly just ok and quite dull/tedious in places. there are a couple of exceptions throughout such as Come Together and Electricity and as a whole it’s undoubtedly an enjoyable listen, but I still don’t get the hype around this album.

Starts well but most of the songs end in horrible noise.

Starts off strong but increasingly samey and a bit bland.

Once I gave it a chance, its actually not that bad. A very aptly named album.

A little over the top at times but I liked it and bought it

I think this project has made me more critical of obviously British accent singing. There's SO much. There were some cool sounds here, but the whole thing didn't stick with me too much. Electricity sounded like some old-school rock and loved the harmonica use. Felt real out of place on this album, however...Wait nevermind, the whole back half of the album became a journey through styles. It actually made me like it more? Not enough for a four, but a more respectful 3.5 in my eyes instead of a meh 3.

The Elvis parts were good. Not sure if the mix is good. Pretty chill all in all!

one of those 90s bands that sounded like each other

I have never really heard this kind of music, but I like it so far. It was an interesting mix of styles to my ear. It was good to be introduced to something new, but I don’t need to download it.

Pretty good tracks

Interesting... it definitely fits with my ideas about brit music I heard in the early 2000's. (is this british?) See influence in Badly Drawn Boy, etc...

Lots of beautiful stuff but I can't stand jamming at the end of songs. Too long.

Trippy psych rock electro, very chill. I liked it, reminds me of stuff I used to listen to at my sharehouses on a sunday after a big night

Space-rock, cool. Nice flow to the album. Interesting sound, Stand-out song so far - Electricity and Cool Waves

The songs were a bit too mellow and ran into each other, not really sticking out to me.

Есть две неплохие песни: "Broken Heart" и "Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space".

This is an interesting album. Usually I like heavily produced psychedelia, but this one feels a bit overbearing at times. I like it, but intermittently. It starts to hit it's stride 4-5 songs in. I think if the first two songs were stronger then this might be an album I really like. Also this album feels like it's crecendoing to the end a couple of times, and then it just picks back up and keeps going. 3/5

songs range from 2-4

Always enjoy how Spiritualized build their songs into this huge cacophony

Hm. Quite the atmosphere. For the most part, I enjoyed this album. 3.5

It honestly dissapointed me a bit. Its still good, but feels way too long (and it isnt even that long). The closing track is pretty sick though

Bit different. Not really for me tho.

This album feels almost like a precursor to The Avalanches' "We Will Always Love You", but with more of a focus on rock, sounding a little like Oasis, and less of an ambient and electronic focus. It's unfortunately just a bit noisy. Not much ever really coalesces in the way you want it to. There's so much potential here, with allusions to space, reality, symbolism, but what results is more of a mesh of cosmic noises overlayed with wishy-washy rock music, and also every song it about twice the length it should be.

Wasn't horrible but way over done and most songs drugged on way too long.

Pretty much as soon as I started getting into this it turned into garbage noise

I have no idea.

I always want to love this album. The first song is so incredible, and then …. nothing. It’s a hard song to follow, though.

Initially was indifferent but the more I listened the more it sounded like noise

This was really cool but it is wayyyyyy too long

Not really my cup of tea but not bad. Big Stone Roses-y vibes but in space.

There's a lot going on here, but at the two-thirds mark I've yet to hear a single thing that I want to go back and listen to again. Not even a single hook in a track that makes me enjoy the build-up in anticipation. I can't even tell where each one ends and the next starts; it's not difficult to listen to but it really is just a panorama of noise of varying types. I'm eternally grateful it's got strings, horns and the associated grandeur they bring, which saved me from listening to 69 minutes of guitar-led indie shoegaze, but that's not really enough to save it unfortunately
