Reviews (page 10 of 13)
I've felt for a long time that I didn't have enough Bruce in my life, but I never got motivated to seek it out. I was kinda excited when this came up on the generator. Just the motivation I needed. Unfortunately I didn't enjoy this as much as I'd hoped. All very overdramatic. I know there's a version of Bruce for me out there. This wasn't it.
Starts out strong and fades
Loved him and saw live often. Think I just got tired of him. Fun but not really great.
Glimpses of future greatness infuse this first album.
Good, but I thought I'd enjoy it more than I did
It's quite alright. Not something I'd listen to in my spare time, but it's nice.
Too slow. Too Bruce Springsteen.
Eh it was okay I guess. Bruce isn't my thing.
this bruce was better than the last brice i listened to. give me some darkness on the edge of town. i bet he was a hard working man before his fame, cause if not he loves cosplay. almost got that squealy yelp i like n this album. good americana rock in the suburbs. good job brucey boy.
This was okay, but nothing really grabbed my attention here.
For a Bruce Springsteen album, this was way too downbeat for me. I like the explosive big sound of the E Street Band backing him. The first track started the album off great, with high energy. Sadly the rest of the album just fell flat for me.
I understand this appeals to some- smalltown aspirations and dreams, Americana and 70's stadium rock but it sounds samey to me. It's not that I dislike it only that it does nothing for me. Having said that he deserves his niche. He's very good at what he does.
This was just fine. Maybe I don’t have as much appreciation for this genre or my mood wasn’t as into it because I know Springsteen is such an influential artist.
Enjoyable, but some of the songs were a little too "middle America" for me. I think I preferred the more upbeat songs, especially with the sax. Least favorite was "Adam Raised a Cain"
its OK and very distinctly Bruce
There's not a lot of fun happening here. The album title explains it all. Bruce is best when he's being Bruce - pumping the air and living the American Dream. He's down on his luck on Darkness. Badlands and Promised Land stand out. But elsewhere and it's tough going.
America
Not his best album, but a good one.
A couple of great tracks but for me the rest is struggling to meet Bruce’s high standards - better before and better to come.
love some of the songs here, standouts with the title track and prove it all night.
Some good stuff on this. Never been a big fan of Springsteen so this is my first time listening to one of his full albums. Still not a big fan but didnt hate this one.
First time listening to the boss. Good solos and very listenable.
boring springsteen
Some seriously good tracks on here. I found most of it quite self-indulgent, it worked for me on some tracks like 'Something in the Night', but 'Street of fire' i found super grating. Enjoyed the listen tho
Composition is nice but lyrics are not my cup of tea
3.5/5
First time listening to a full Bruce record. I know he was a great performer and songwriter but didn’t realize what a great singer he is. I like his dynamic vocal performances on Streets of Fire and Something in the Night. Not a big fan of the songs about old cars… 3.5
Good rock n roll. Badlands is a good song. This isn’t my favorite Bruce record but it’s still good. Clarence Clemons is great even if he does only have one lick 😂
A hard listen
medio zzz 6.5/10
Maybe I just don’t like Bruce Springsteen. To this album’s credit, its production isn’t as unbearable as “Born in the USA”, but it still suffers from quite a few pitfalls that plague the aforementioned album. To be honest, I feel like Springsteen is at his best without the E Street Band. If “Nebraska” has taught us anything, it’s that Springsteen’s social commentary regains its razor-sharp edge through just Folk instrumentation, and it becomes greatly dulled with the addition of other superfluous instruments (As a progressive rock fanatic I love me some electronic keyboard instruments, but they do NOT fit here). With these complaints aside, this album is definitely better than “Born in the USA”, at least music-wise. Worth the listen, but unless you can look past the embellishments, not worth coming back to. Standout Songs: “Badlands” “Candy’s Room” “Racing in the Street”
Catchy hooks and an overall solid rock album.
Bruce Springsteen the champion of New York, New Jersy, and the Jews. This album is ok. Not very good, not very bad. Yet another 3/5 for the books. A low 3/5
I’m sure the actual musical compositions were good but unfortunately I couldn’t tell because Bruce-y’s awful droning voice ruined it all. The only song I actively thought “this is ok” was Racing in the Street. Factory was eh too I guess. ‘Something in the Night’ just sounded like someone writhing in pain, and I’m pretty sure ‘The Promised Land’ was made up on the spot because it was just a series of loosely correlated noises.
Goed, maar wordt er niet warm van. Vind de stem eigenlijk matig
The Boss is aight. I like Born USA more. And just that one song.
How much you like this album really depends on how much you like epic romanticizing of blue collar life in 1970s America. Me not so much. I don't hate it, exactly, but sometimes Bruce sounds like a parody of himself. Also, I often feel like he's pandering to his audience the way modern country artists do. But he does what he does well, and his band is tight. Badlands is cool. And though I don't love Candy's Room, I do admire the bizarre arrangement. Mostly this listen just brought me back to riding on the school bus, listening to WMMR's The Morning Zoo, and wondering when these songs would end so we could get to music I preferred. Also, I wonder if I'm the only guy who grew up in Freehold in the '70s who doesn't love The Boss?
Oh, I tried. I tried I tried I tried. It's fine. I don't hate it. But there's not much for me here.
Good album, bit screamy
It's a great album dealing with what it was like to be an American working class man living in the 70s. The music is typical rock and roll with a bit of 70s corniness that still seems to add into the whole vibe of the album (I mean the sax solo, guitar solo and then back again to sax? that's just crazy and yet somehow it works here). Some of the lyrics are great and relatable - Adam Raised a Cain is a great thing to listen to all the men today trying to be better dads then their own. And some of the lyrics are just too specific for the time and space when the album was made - all the talking about cars means nothing to me but please note that I'm not American and I was born much later. Overall, good, nice vibes but nothing outstanding to me.
Not a style I ever normally gravitate to, so it took me a little while to settle in, but I liked it more as it went on. Ballads were my faves. Wailing guitar solos and nasal sax grate for me a lil.
Not my thing but definitely not bad. At first his singing kind of reminded me of Elvis, which isn't a bad thing, I just thought it was funny. Great guitar, too. Fave track(s):Adam Raised a Cain
Bruce Springsteen doesn't do a lot for me but some of the songs on here are more compelling than others.
Great songs in the first half, second half meanders a bit.
Bruce doesn't really do it for me, but I can see how someone could like some of these songs. The album itself feels kinda disjointed
Not vintage Springsteen for me.
A spiky listen and not always in a good way, Springsteen stretched and ended up with something intriguing. The second half of Darkness gets more consistent but also much more boring. You can't take Bruce's ability to create real moments of beauty, but there are also baffling stretches in many songs. An album I will likely revisit with some cringing, not one to convert haters.
Hankala antaa Springsteenille kolmosta, ikäänkuin olisi tekemänsä musiikin itseisarvo. Brucella on todella hieno tunne, jota on hankala kenenkään jäljentää.. ANTANA marginalisoidulle amerikkalaiselle leivän.. ja miekan.. Hyvä.. heh.. Ameriikkassa aina tapahtuu hauska seurata haha..
Genres: Rock Formed: It’s OK. Nothing outstanding for me.
I’m really not familiar with Springsteen. His style has always been very unique, but just not interesting enough for me. This was OK.
Very basic album I'd say, has a few better songs
Bruce doesn't exactly speak to me but the narrative arcs and spirit of rock live strong in his music
Not my favorite Boss album but good
I like a couple songs a lot and equally disliked others. He’s still the boss.
Good album, but I’ve never understood the intense praise Springsteen gets
decent melodic sensibilities; but there's an underlying appeal by Springsteen trying to appear genuine by trying to scream his heart out - that's the whole genre of heartland rock, to be fair this was decent by heartland rock standards, but any rock album does need more than lyrics for me for it to be better than average - here, that was sadly not the case, with the songs merging into each other.
This album didn’t really do anything for me, even on a second listen. That was a surprise considering how much I liked some of his others. The songs were just kind of boring to me. I liked “Candy’s Room” and the title track but that was about it. Sorry Bruce, but this one is a 3.
Have always listened to random tracks from this album. Nice in its entirety
Avg bruce
i think if bruce never sang in his raspy voice i would like his music much more
All of this guys albums deserve to be on the list. However, this is not my favorite album of his. It’s good, but pales in comparison to a few of his others.
Less R&B than Born To Run and much more "typical" Bruce. Some proper rock songs and lots of piano-led ernest story songs. Ok, but I prefer the two "Born" albums.
My second favourite Springsteen album so far. A consistent hard rock sound without too many cheesy elements. Somehow this seems to have more genuine emotion in it was than Born to Run or Nebraska. It seems Bruce is best when he's not going for radio hits. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Badlands Date listened: 23/12/22
Fun arena rock lite typical of Bruce. Guitar tones are a bit abrasive and high in the mix for the genre. Nice mix of intensity levels on the tunes. Nothing was tough to listen to, the entire album had a nice listenable and nostalgic vibe.
Aardig
A dark and raw side to The Boss, with some great songs like Badlands and Racing in the Street, but a bit of filler and some very hit and miss vocals
It was an easy album to listen too, good background music while I worked.
The Boss! This is like a good version of modern country. New Jersey country! But still not quite my cup of tea... or, ah, can of domestic lager? I know factory life is hard Bruce, but I feel like I had to be there.
I'm not sure if I got into it as it went or if the back half was better but that I definitely enjoyed it a lot more by the end. More sax less shouting.
good, if you like BS
Not a big Springsteen fan but OK.
Never really got Springsteen but have to say this speaks directly in a working class voice and is very enjoyable 3.3
It's "good", but a bit flat for me in terms of Springsteen.
I've already forgot it, nothing special
ok. Classic. but not for me
this album took longer for me to get into than born in the u.s.a, which surprised me when i was coming into this album with excitement. i grew to understand how it's considered some of bruce's finest work: the working class focus, the deep lyrics, the guitar riffs. there are some bluesy aspects here, but it's mostly classic the boss' rock and roll. that being said, while i did come to enjoy and respect darkness on the edge of town, there was something lacking and i couldn't come to love it.
So, my first thought upon finishing this album was "I really didn't like this as much as Born in the USA", and while it's unfair to compare the albums when rating this specific one, I couldn't help that thought. If "Born in the USA" is an 'uplifting' heartland rock album (which many people find it to be), this one is a little bit darker and more downcast. Bruce's voice is particularly unappealing on this album. That said, I would say this is fairly raw and gritty, so maybe I'm deriving some correlation there. This album was fine, but definitely not groundbreaking for me.
This was a pretty solid album. A lot of Bruce's songs sound very similar. I dont think any of them are bad though. None of these songs stood out to me in a special way except maybe racing in the street. I still thought this was an above average album, Bruce knows how to make a good song. 6/10
ok boss ok. Its that sort of stadium crooner sound of the 80's, talking about how your car is great and your girl is great and how your town is going to shit. Bruce's songs to me are important as historical artifacts but to me his songs are overly saccarine and sentimental without a purpose. It's a story just to make you cry. Not to inspire, not to cast blame, not to offer hope for a future. These are songs meant for and from the present.
Not a fan of optimistic Americana but this record explores those who never quite realised their dreams. Feels very much influenced by Bob Dylan but retains signature stadium rock qualities. Songs are tight but fully realised. I guess coming off his legal troubles, the success of Born to Run was tainted with cynicism, leading to this album. Must have been very powerful to those living the American scream. "But if dreams came true, oh, wouldn't that be nice/But this ain't no dream we're living through tonight". Could very well have leaned even further into the darkness but that's not really on brand. Pleasantly surprised! Fav song: Adam raised a Cain
Couple of good songs - but generally unexciting
3.5 stars. springsteen is starting to grow on me.
Aburrido
Again, not something I would choose to listen to often. But I like that it’s real. Not as commercial as he had been. Awesome band!
Some honest, hard workin', car drivin', go-nowhere-with-your-girl music.
Solid songwriting, solid playing, solid album. But for all I might try to listen with fresh ears, prompted by fans, critics and even a recent movie I saw about a Pakistani English kid who finds himself through Bruce (and this album in particular) there’s very little that really grabs me. Still not a convert to The Boss, at least not to this album.
Campy bruce
Yeah, I see where Sam Fender gets it from. No, I don't enjoy it as much.
E Street Band = great! Bruce singing = bad
There’s some Springsteen songs that I love, but not from this album. I think hearing many songs in a row made me realize how much it sounds like he’s in physical pain when he’s singing.
Not quite Springsteen at his best, but still lots of good stuff
My dad really likes Bruce Springsteen and has always wanted me to listen to him, but... I'm not super impressed. There were some okay songs but nothing stood out.
Cool
Thought I would like it more. A bit slower, a bit heavier sounds than expected
Not his best work, but a prelude to bigger things
I always forget about The Boss, but I probably shouldn't. The music most of the time entertains me, and this was no exception.
For Springsteen this was decent.
Not a big Bruce fan but this album was decent
3/10, 30%
I can see it now but I’m just not the right demographic for this. If I lived a few hundred miles to the west I’m sure I’d be thumping my chest and saluting my flag but it just doesn’t quite hit me in the heartland.
I don't know what it is about Springsteen. His heart is in the right place and the lyrics are very good. I just find the music overblown/overwrought. Not for me.
Preposterous voice. The dude is obsessed with Streets, isn't he? Sounds like a spiked nipple piercing a tank top as a cool breeze rolls in on a summer evening.
Just as I manage to work my lifelong (and completely irrational) dislike of The Boss out of my system, a new round of hagiography hits me in the face like a dead fish. (The new biopic is slinking out of cinemas as I type.) Anyway. Credit where credit is due. Springsteen, songwriter, is a consummate storyteller. It's only in the lack of similar in the current age that this awareness has full come to me. On the other hand. Storytellers, across the ages, have often been mythologisers too. Caveat Emptor etc...
Like Michael Scott, I know way less Bruce Springsteen than I thought.
Good for Springsteen, probably one of his best but still feels pretty one dimensional.
3.its giving me freedom vibes 4. up up up 5. 6. 9. sweet, i hope its prooved 10. slow and classy особенные песни: 5,8
Typically haven't been much of a Springsteen fan from what I've heard over the years. 3/5. Favourite tracks were Adam Raised a Cain and Streets of Fire. I find Springsteen mumbles quite a lot through some of the songs through the album and it's hard to intentionally listen to.
Pretty good
3.2 - What is it that I dislike about Bruce Springsteen? Is it the pandering to blue collar America? Is it the emotional grandstanding that oozes with sincerity? Is it the hit-you-over-the-head music production? Is it the stylized leather jacket/tight jeans combo? I couldn't get into "Born in the U.S.A" and I can't get into this record either. I tried. I even kinda sorta like some of the songs. But - I don't know - it still all seems phony, like an elaborate put-on.
Fav Song: Badlands
Like the ones before it. Perfectly fine.
first listen not quite my tempo
It's my least favourite Springsteen album yet. Feels like a less vital Born to Run. Still good(ish) but failed to hold me for all that long.
While the classic Springsteen themes are definitely there, I would argue that as far as his portfolio is concerned, this does not stand out as a particularly special album.
Super fun album!! I have always listened to Born to Run and had some of the bangers on playlists but I've never listened to this album at all. This is less packed with famous bangers but it's also really fun, I feel like it's got real 80s vibes for a late 70s album so maybe it was really ahead of its time. Some of the tracks felt like boring dad rock to me a little bit. Love the song Factory and Badlands both for interesting stories they tell and also for sound.
There are a couple of Springsteen hits that I like, but this album didn't contain any of them and seemed very lukewarm at best. Too much mumbling and the sax solos are nice by themselves, but get old quick. Definitely not bad, but not quite good enough either.
I've never been a huge fan of Springsteen and if you had told me this was his best album I probably wouldn't listen to any others but I know that isn't true. There wasn't anything that stood out to me here besides this just being classic mo town rock which is cool but I like a little quicker tempo.
I’ve never gotten into Springsteen. Still haven’t, yet, but I think you probably have to pay attention to the stories in the lyrics to really appreciate what half the USA loves about it. Gonna be tough to do that with the next album coming at me every day, but at least this made me believe in that proposition. Another one to return to at a leisurely pace. {Prior rated}
Oh no, I’m not so sure I think Bruce Springsteen can sing. 😬
I've never really been a big fan of The Boss, and this isn't the album to change my mind. I don't hate it, it's just not my cup of tea...I will say, tho... I really like the chord progression of Candy's Room, even if it's ok song otherwise. The rest of the album is pretty on-brand for Springsteen, whether or not that that's your thing.
Not great, Not terrible. 3.
Calling the UN because having 3 (or more!?!) Bruce Springsteen albums on this list is a crime against humanity that needs to ne investigated. This is the best BS album yet, as there is some variation in terms of tempo, style, and emotion. It's almost like these are real songs. Regardless, it's all just so safe and boring. No generation that actually had a hard time of it could produce music so dull.
More Springsteen, its good but I've had better
Ei oma lemppari Springsteenin tuotannossa. 3/5
Meh 3
Not bad not bad, but also not that good 5/10
Prima album maar klinkt super verouderd
An okay album not the best by Springsteen but average
curti :) é bem melodico, me lembra musica de filmes dos anos 90/00 de sessão da tarde (no bom sentido rsrs) acho que porque "I'am On fire" é dele tambem, só não do mesmo album.
From a position of basically zero prior experience with Springsteen: His two modes on this are either Moaning or Growling. The majority of it is moaning, and I much, much, much prefer the parts where he’s growling.
"Darkness on the Edge of Town" brought to you by '70s Springsteen. Country-ish hard rock springkled with flashy riffs and sax solos. And what's the difference between '70s Springsteen and '80s Springsteen? Or in particular this album and "Born in the USA"? I don't know, tbh. The sounds are pretty similar. Yet for some reason, I enjoyed "Born in the USA" more. Of course it's too early to judge Springsteen's music as a whole. But I think his music is the best in small doses. I received his USA album not so long ago, and that's probably why i find this album a bit tiresome.
As some people say it started to grow on me, but then.... it started to shrink on me.
More Bruce.., Shit.. How about something different!
This sounds a little bit like Bruce Springsteen
lite rock with a singer that could probably do a good Elvis impersonation. in one ear and out the other.
I understand the appeal - it just doesn't resonate with me
Just stop with the sax. Enjoyable and interesting
Not a fan of brucie
I know it's almost heresy, but I'm not a fan of Bruce. He does the whole smearing words together thing, an achy raspyness, and it just...nah.
snnnnnfm hgh omuhgradd
I just don't have the passion for Bruce of others. It's ok, but not something I'd ever choose to listen to.
I’ve never gotten into Springsteen. Still haven’t, yet, but I think you probably have to pay attention to the stories in the lyrics to really appreciate what half the USA loves about it. Gonna be tough to do that with the next album coming at me every day, but at least this made me believe in that proposition. Another one to return to at a leisurely pace.
This was definitely a better album than Nebraska, but I still don’t find Bruce Springsteens earlier music that great in general. I think his more energetic music is just better than his slower music Fav: Adam made a Cain
Not gonna be my fave Boss album.
Can I get uhhhhhhh eh
Not bad! I really like the aggression on some of these tracks. Need more listens really
3/5 it didn't really stick.
Typical Springsteen, toe tappable but not amazing
It’s an alright album. There’s some pretty sweet songs in there.
Struggle with Springsteen 😔
Adam Raised a Cain the highlight for me. Can’t get going with the overall working man ethos.
Classic. Sounds the same as he does now
It was ok....I thought I liked Springsteen more
He's a great musician, with a voice I loathe.
3/5 Nice voice
Well, it's better than Rod Stewart, I'll give it that much.
Better than Nebraska.
A bit to rock ballady and brucey but quite nice
Decent Springsteen offering
There are definitely 3, maybe even 4 Springsteen ‘75-‘87 albums I’d rank higher than Darkness on the Edge of Town.
Eh, Bruce Springsteen doesn't seem to quite hit the right emotional notes for me. I can't deny he has good delivery of his lyrics, but he doesn't quite convince me with the stories he tells in each song.
Not his best work imo
How do you follow up 'Born to Run'? Well, like this. Wasn't the same commercial success, but you feel he wanted something rawer (apparently 70 songs recorded reduce to 10). Liquid late 70's post-industrial American.
This was a very pleasant experience. Normally, I didn't like any of the songwriter "solo" albums that I got on this list until now. However, this one was a very nice one. Bruce Springsteen still sounds like "song for my parents" style, but sometimes I can enjoy it too. very nice instrumental arranges
Well, it's The Boss...so, whatever.
i love his voice and his music, nothing really stood out to me but i did enjoy it!
A couple of pretty cool tracks, just not a huge fan of the Boss.
I'm not a Springsteen fan, but "Racing in the street" and the title track are really powerful tunes. They evoke amazing mental imagery.
Not a boss album I’m overly familiar. Still great they. Perhaps not touching on the greatness of others though.
Springsteen is Springsteen in short.
I enjoyed it but his voice is keeping me off the bandwagon
good but a little bland. Could be just a boring friday vibe for me
Ну хуй знает, Adam Raised a Cain довольно годная и мужыцкая такая, Streets of Fire забавная, закрывашка вроде ниче.
okay sound. I'm not a huge Springsteen fan to begin with.
Not bad, good background listening while working
Better than I thought but not my cup of tea
Really tried to like this one more than I did but couldn't. A lot of the songs had an anthemic feel and great lyrics that really told stories but as soon as 'Badlands' started I just couldn't get past Springsteen's voice. E-Street Band killed it though. I respect the dude's contributions to music and developing the genre of 'heartland rock' but I'd much rather listen to early Tom Petty than this.
Bästa låt: The Promised Land
Passion can be heard on this album, that's for sure. A small complaint is I thought the gap between the quite parts and loud parts were too far. It's effective but I found myself turning the volume up at the beginning and wanting to turn down when the rest of the band came in. Overall a solid album through and through, favourite song is Candy's room.
It was alright, some good stories to be told as you'd expect from Springsteen. Only really liked half the tracks on the first listen though, might need another listen.
Not a fan of how mumbly he is, but I can see the appeal and respect his impact on music.
It's fine. Bruce Springsteen's singing is the worst part. I was braced to hate it, but listening has been a good time. Still got kind of bored in the second half of the record.
Nice stuff and some particularly cool songs in there. Really liked Factory, even if it's a bit on the nose. The only problem I had was when the mumbling made it impossible to understand what he was saying, I actually had to laugh a few times at just how garbled the lyrics were. Still, some strong classic rock there and glad I listened.
One notch more Bruce than you need, which is actually the right amount of Bruce.
An angry and brooding album from Springsteen and crew. It works well enough and you still get plenty of their signature style but the album does end up feeling like a bit of a slog. The anger and brooding never ends up feeling fully meaningful or even deserved even if its effective on elevating a few tracks.
Good album. A solid 3.4.
Typical mumbling Springsteen album, but I'm not a fan.
Not a fan of Bruce, but is ok
It is most definitely Bruce Springsteen. Definitively, some might say. I've never been a huge fan of his vocals. The songs are fine, but it's just not my favorite style of music. I would give it 3.5 if I could.
Bruce sprongstem . Never liked , will listen anyhow.
Never listened to a whole Springsteen album. After watching Blinded by the Light (cool 2019 film about a British Muslim kid obsessed with the Boss in the 1980s), I was quite open to hearing more. I can appreciate the craft of this album. "Promised Land" and "Darkness on the Edge of Town" are great well-written songs. Others like "Racing in the Street" are relatively memorable. Sadly, most of the album just washes over me. I've tried it three times, but only the standout tracks really do it for me. I'm not a huge fan of this style of rock music, and not massively struck by Bruce's vocals. Overall, I enjoyed it, and I wouldn't mind hearing another album, but it's a 3.5.
The old Brucie.
A pretty good album - can't say I like it as much as Born to Run and his crooning is a bit much at times, but still enjoyable, and come on, its Bruce Springsteen Liked: Badlands, Racing in the Street
Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Badlands, Candy's Room, Racing in the Street, The Promised Land Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Completely inoffensive rock. I understand he's a storyteller and he's an American icon but did we really need 4+ of his albums?
Yeah I liked it, pure blue collar 80s America
Ugh, it's all so dramatic. Not really for me - couldn't get through quite a few of the songs in full Adam Raised a Cane, Streets of Fire and the Title track were all cool and saved The Boss from a 2 star rating from me
Same as the Foo Fighters Album. I like it a lot but its not as good as I know he can be so there are some missing points there.
Best guess
Not one of my favourites by the boss but few standout tracks and the sound of a band having a great time.
Just as I expected it would sound
Naja
Kind of dug that
false
Sounds like the Boss! I liked the last springsteen we heard more, and while great, still gotta leave it with a 3.5.
Old school
Nice
Not Springsteen’s best
Mehh
Great album, feels very raw and early Bruce. It’s no Nebraska. I love Badlands and the first half of the album, but it kind of falls off after that.
his voice is sorta jarring but some of these songs really hit. Mmmmmmm but they also don’t IDK
Way way better than Born to Run but still struggle to see the mass appeal. Again it's probably because I'm not a blue jeans wearing factory worker from 1979 mid west America.
Grym skiva. Saxofonen drar ned betyget
Pomo on meikäläisen korvaan tasoa ihan jees, mutta jotain tästä puuttu noustakseen seuraavalle levelille. Eikä tosin varmasti herran parhaita levyjä?
It's alright, I guess - Like a pitched-down Marshall Crenshaw, but more Hank Hill and less, Buddy Holly , hahaha Apparently he 'changed his sound' some time or other so I'll check out another album before formulating a CONCLUSION
Springsteen just does nothing for me. Not a fan of his voice. The band is solid which keeps this from being 1 star. But I can't go higher than 2 stars for anything I've heard from The Boss. 2 stars.
It never really clicked for me when it comes to Bruce Springsteen. However Im giving every record a chance here so I went through it a few times. Unfortunately hearing this album doesnt differ from my former experiences. His voice is just not my taste I guess but I find it very exhausting and unpleasent after a few minutes. The songs itself are good written pieces some of them and I liked the production quite a bit but his voice and delivery just kills it for me. Im probably giving this a chance again in a few years or months and maybe my opinion will change but until then Im not putting it on again. 2,0/5
Not my favorite
mediocre
Just another generic Rock album.
old man music
Género al rock álbum. Some good songs but not outstanding at all. I don’t understand how it is a memorable album or something everyone should listen to at least once in their lives.
This album was...fine? I honestly don't remember a lot of it and I just listened to it yesterday. Not for me I suppose.
Sounds like a tired Meatloaf. Sorry, Mark. This isn't my sort of thing.
Too much yelling
its aight
His style is just not for me, I tried again with this album but no joy
A bit too Americana for dads 2.5
And here, we have something that is probably the polar opposite of too much electro. For that, at least, I am grateful. I am also grateful that it's like, half as long as The Rising. And finally, I am grateful that I don't think I have heard any of this. It's still Springsteen though, with that Stallone-playing-Elvis voice of his, with the echoey recording, with the “whaaaoooaaahhh” of Something in the Night, with arguably the most omnipresent glockenspeil player of the era. But really, even despite my bias against the Boss, this feels particularly bad. A heartfelt ballad that cribs from Dancing in the Streets, but is about racing? The weirdly performed insistence that “i aint a boy, i am a man”? Whatever cluttered mess Candy's Room is? The vocals on Streets of Fire suddenly going Barney-from-the-Simpsons? This is your dad getting up, drunk, to do karaoke at a wedding. ⭐️⭐️, feels more like the unneeded and discarded B-sides to Born To Run.
Not my thing. Not helped by being second Springsteen album in a row!
Not really a fan of Springsteen I guess, despite having heard almost all of these songs since I was a kid.
Just wasn't feeling it.
not a fan
It’s fine I guess. I think I really just don’t like Springsteen’s voice. But he might’ve heavily influenced mumble rap
mr Springsteen has always been an oddity to me. Very hooyah and praise the country type beat. I get how people could like this album. I am not one of those people. Next.
Very self righteous sounding guy. Not a fan. Won’t listen again. Holy sh!t I can hardly make it through the first song. This dude sUCKS his voice sounds like the Elvis cover of the Rick and Morty theme song.
Skipping a lot based on the singing, it's tough! This album has righteous, heartfelt rock and it is not a nice listen.
It's a decent album, pretty standard, I don't like Springsteen's singing though. shelved 3/10.
Another Springsteen! Unremarkable.
bleh
This ain't got shit on Born in the USA.
I…put the spring…in the teen-a!
A few songs i knew already and like but the rest was to much Rock music for me
2 star. Boring. Song 2 slaps
Found it to be pretty boring and didn’t really like many of the tracks
its fine, a little boring
Before this list id never listened to a full Bruce so was interested to hear why so many people o knew with diffeeent musical backgrounds loved him so much. Five album im none the wiser. It just doesn’t seem to all gel together for me and some of them have been .trudges to get through. This one wasn’t a complete bore but it’s just not for me. East coast/west coast style - Agree to disagree
Not his best work, hard to get through
So many like the Boss so much, I don't happen to be one of them. Sorry, Bruce.
After a bright start this just withered away .
Couple of decent ish tracks but mainly dross as far as I’m concerned. Probably won’t listen to it again.
I know this guy is an international superstar, but I really don't get it. It took me 3 tries to get through this album. his voice is bad, the harmonies are just barely on key, and the guitar solos were sloppy. I like what Bruce Springsteen represents as a public figure, but i do not like his music.
A few good songs on here but I'm really learning through this that Bruce Springsteen is a country singer. Not my thing at all. I don't like his vocal performance or most of the songs. It's better than the other one I've gotten on here.
after listening to 4 Bruce Springsteen albums finally found the first song i liked. Adam Raised A Cain saved this from a 1 star.
Never cared for his vocals, but respect his dedication to his craft and also his political stances. On this album, Prove It All Night & Badlands stand out as winners, but his voice isn’t my cup of tea!
Mr Mumbles mumbles through a whole bunch of songs about cars and factories. Or at least I think he does. Hard to tell with all the slurring. This music means precisely nothing to me. Maybe if I lived in the hellhole of suburban USA with its endless, ugly, nature-free concrete deserts designed specifically for cars, I could relate to some of the lyrics (whatever they are). I'm absolutely sure that Bruce is on the side of the angels, but flipping heck, his albums are a chore to listen to! Plinky plonky mumble mumble, etc, repeat for 40 minutes until the sweet relief of silence... This would be a one star album by anyone else, but like the vast majority of the world outside the MAGA cult, he's vehemently anti-Orange-Moron-in-Chief, so gets an extra star for being a decent human being.
meh, no me pegó ninguna pero malo no estaba. 2.5
Old marble mouth back again. Nothing special about this, an unimpressive follow up to born to run which itself was not that great. Beginning to think Springsteen is highly overrated.
not my type of music but good.
I don’t reLly get Springsteen, he always seems to be trying too hard, not much on here for me
🧐
Sounded a bit off key on one of the songs. Put me off listening to the rest of the album.
Very average
Boring
Call me unAmerican but I’m not a Springsteen fan. And this album in particular bores me to death.
Brucey just isn't very interesting
I honestly don't have a really good opinion of this album. I don't really like Bruce's singing voice, and the music is quite forgettable. The content of the songs are pretty generic U.S. nostalgia and no particular song stood out as being good or bad. It's just unflavored oatmeal. I'll give it a 4/10
I get that he's the boss, but I really don't like his voice at all. The E Street Band carries. 2
I just can't stand his voice. The musical arrangements are good. But he ruins it.
It was alright. I loved Badlands already and that was definitely the highlight of the album. I know Bruce has some better music and so I think I'll give that a listen because this album didn't hit hit for me, y'know?
eh
Instantly bored.
Sin más.
I'll start this out by saying I've never been much into Bruce Springsteen. I know a lot of people love him, but I've just never gotten into his stuff. So, I was not really familiar with any of the songs on this album, as this album wasn't as much of a commercial success for him as other albums. And, after listening to this album, I realized that I just really am not a fan of Bruce's voice. To the point that it was a struggle for me to get through the album. I like Bruce in small bits and don't mind listening to any of his songs. But a whole album of Bruce is just too much for me. While I liked that a few of the songs on this album were a little harder rock than some of his more commercial stuff, there were a lot of songs that I just found boring. It seems like most of Bruce songs are just a variation on one theme and the songs on this album were, frankly, kind of depressing to listen to. I appreciate Bruce and the guys in the E Street Band for their talent, but won't listen to this one again.
Did nobody in America work until Brucie left school
Nah Bruce. I've had enough. 2/5.
This guy has *five* albums on the list? Dear lord I'm gonna have to get imaginative to describe bland music.
As soon as I hit play I started wondering what the fuck was going on with his voice. Are we playing off those Elvis-style vocal chord appropriation techniques? You keep listening and it varies, but it constantly suffers from that type of theatrical vocal expression that's trying to be something else. I don't appreciate that, at least not on my first listen. A little digging and I think I'm just not into the idea of heartland rock. It doesn't feel personally culturally significant or interesting. I truly wasn't in need of a second listen, it just feels like an early '80s hard rock sound for the masses. Annoyingly commercial, and not something I 'must' listen to. I'm surprised I'm turning into such a Springsteen hater, I thought I'd be more appreciative of such an iconic name. I was hoping for something less polished, especially with that album art. 2.4/5
Bruce has one song, and he's been singing it 14 times per album for 5 decades now. The songwriting is fine, if you grew up in Nebraska in the 60s, but dull otherwise. The music is solid, although I didn't much care for the mix.
Grungy voice over some lukewarm rock.
meh
stodgy, with vocals alternately muffled and strained
Best Song: Badlands. The guitar solo was nice? Worst Song: Racing in the Street. This isn't a voice built for ballads. Overall: Somehow I feel like die-hard Springsteen fans wouldn't even be that jazzed about this album. Certainly doesn't feel important enough to fit on this list. It's just more old man dad rock. I bet this music sounded old when it was new.
I wish I liked Bruce. I just don't. Some tracks and albums are better than others, this one just doesn't do it for me, sorry.
I’ve said it before I’ll say it again. Why is this on here.
#901. So this is the guy the boomers call The Boss, huh? 2/5: meh
I've never really understood the appeal of Springsteen. I find his songs a little too hammy, too sincere, and his voice, while distinctive, irritates me whether he's crooning or shouting. I do see the working-class image, and I suppose people relate to that. But this album did nothing to improve my feelings about him as a writer or performer.
