Reviews (page 11 of 12)
Still just not something I have much interest in at all. This one is a bit less actively grating to me though for most of it at least.
I have heard of the Pogues and have listened to "Fairytale in New York" before listening to this album. I really enjoy the "music" but will likely never listen to this album again. It is not offensive and is well done just not what I am into.
On The Wire, whenever McNutty is drunk-driving his car into street signs he’s usually listening to the Pogues, I think. Those four-second clips are enough Pogues for me to hear in my lifetime.
tremendo meh irlandes
Music is fine, but I dont think the vocal matches the vision
Nah
Do people actually listen to this shit when it's not St. Patty's day? You get a pass if you're actually Irish.
I think I don't like folk music. Giving it a 2 because at least I liked "Metropolis" and I wasn't completely miserable the entire time.
there's some heavy lifting being done by fairytale of course, but when you're in the mood for the pogues this is probably the best album
It certainly wasn't bad, but, unfortunately, I just know I won't be returning to this very often
I feel like I’m in a medieval fairytale.
It was ok, but quite a hard listen. Maybe not ideal on a sunny morning - would be great in a pub in ireland somewhere..
I like their version of trad folk songs and their softer songs, but was sad not to find more in an album containing my fave Christmas song of all time (albeit replacing some lyrics with "I love Diane Abbott")
Just listening to this gave me a hangover.
There are better folk punk groups out there imo, I did not like this.
It almost pulled me in, then it just kinda shoved me away again. Not for me, but I can see why someone would enjoy it.

Not really for me. I recognize them as an influence for later artists
It's an interesting blend of music, some folk punk sort of thing, but it's not that enjoyable to me.
Sounds like pirate music. Reaaally not my music. Hokey pokey type beat. I'm sure it's great for those who like it. I didn't.
its ok i guess, kind of a chore to listen to
There a lot going on
Wow I hated that.
Fun band, probably won’t listen too again
Irish folk style, drinking beers at the pub with the lads - Upbeat and hearty, instrumentation stands out - Not too much variety and not quite my cup of tea
NOT for me.
Extremely repetitive. I love this type of music a lot, but this was just too much for me. The only song I knew was Fairytale of New York but even then, I like that song better when its a bit censored (Shout out to the Longest Johns for my favorite version). I'm not a fan of the mumble singing even though that does come with the genre. overall kinda forgettable and I know spotify only has the extended version, but its way too long and only an hour and 4 minutes.
Demasiado happy, demasiado folk
++: Thousands Are Sailing, Fiesta, Worms +: If I Should Fall from Grace to God, Bottle of Smoke, Metropolis, South Australia, Sit Down by the Fire, The Broad Majestic Shannon +-: Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six, Lullaby of London, The Battle March Medley -: Turkish Song of the Damned, Medley: The Recruiting Sergeant/The Rocky Road to Dublin/Galway Races --: Fairytale of New York 5,4/10
So absolutely not mine. Carnival‘esque dance music. Would have a different appeal at a sweaty pub night.
Not good.
Not a band or sound I thought I'd see on this list. Not my sound, I just don't enjoy it so I'm at a loss to review it. This belongs in an Irish bar. I feel like the only time these songs get played is when someone throws a St. Paddy's Day party. I knew "Fairytale..." but the rest was repetitive, delivered too urgently and I struggled to get through the entire album. I love Mountain Dew, but hated the song they sang about the wonderful beverage. I never would have included this one in the T1001. Not innovative, not sure it's had an impact outside of one song being a holiday favorite and it has zero staying power/hits. 2 Stars for not being bad but just not my thing.
Gotta say, Irish punk just isn't it for me. The music itself is kind of fun with the different layered instruments, but I can't help but feel dorky listening to it. And due to this, the ceiling is pretty low for my listening experience. The fact that this went on for over an hour did not help matters. Really not *bad* but not something I want to do again. For that, I'm going with a 2.
Not the Fiesta I was expecting. More of like a Bottle of Smoke.
This music has definitely fallen out of grace with god. The Fairytale of New York was an almost impossible listen.
Instruments are good. Vocals are unique but not in a good way. I understand that this is a Celtic band but the want to sound like a Viking while singing really isn’t it.
I didn't like the vocals all that much. Instrumentally it's a good time. However it was too long.
why was this so annoying
My ancestors are going to bestow a generational curse on me for not giving this a 5, but unfortunately I wasn't drunk enough to enjoy this one. Up the RA.
The instrumentals and the lyrics work fine on their own, but together they just didn't gel with me. Gave this album a few goes and just wasn't able to get into a groove with it. Highlights: Metropolis, Sketches of Spain
It's okay in its own way
its chirstmas eeevee BAEYBE
I just don’t get it. Good for St. Patrick’s Day, but that’s about it.
8 o 10 canciones te aguanto. El resto es molido o relleno
This cultural appropriation is an insult to all pirates out there
For me, a little goes along way with this type of music. I would enjoy listening to a selection too in a bar restaurant setting, but this album was just way too long for me.
5/10
There's an album for everyone. This just ain't mine.
Like a scene from ‘Snatch’..,
ehh didn't hold my attention
anybody who says Fairytale of New York is their favorite Christmas song should be treated with the same contempt as somebody who names Die Hard as their favorite Christmas movie
Gave me sea shanty vibes. Surprisingly, in a bad way
Not a massive fan of this album, has a few good songs in it, largely saved by "fairy tail of new York", other than that the best songs feature a lack of Shane MacGowan's drunken ramblings.
Surprised I had never been exposed to this band. It was a decent album for a while but it overstayed its welcome a little bit. It may be fun to throw on a handful of songs at the right event, but I don't think I need to come back to it.Kind of an odd decision to include a Christmas song in the middle of the album, but it was pleasant enough of a track to work. 2.24 stars
The blend of traditional music and punk is a good idea, but this sound is just not my cup of tea
1.5/5
I’m sorry but I just can’t handle these vocals. Fairytale of New York is really good but the vocals are so painful at the beginning I can’t even sit through it. It’s a shame because a lot of the instrumentation is catchy and fun.
Probably decent but my boss played this on repeat at work and now I can't listen to it anymore...
I thought I already paid my penance for this type of music when I listened to Flogging Molly in high school.
This is definitely not for me. Nope.
I don’t like Irish punk bands with banjos and accordions. (I see you, Dropkick Murphys) It all sounds the same to me and I don’t like how it sounds. Also, I have been forced to see so many Dropkick concerts, that I’m done with it.
Partly heard before Saved 3/13 Top track: Fairytale of New York
This just doesn't do it for me. Too much of the same thing for over an hour (Wee wee, womp womp, ding ding). I can see this being a hit in an Irish pub, but listenimg to an entire album was extremely challenging for me.
OK in small doses!
Ok i guess. 2.5
While the accordion and mix of a jig in the background, reminds me of the Weird Al songs, but with a lot more swearing instead of fun lyrics.
normalize making shitty albums under an hour (this isn't an example but i'm just so fucking done)
Can see why this would appeal some people, but it just wasn't for me. Sorry.
Interesting, but a whole abulm is a lot. Not my taste but i do appreciate the musicianship. The band sounds like they are having a blast.
Do I lose my Irish heritage if I say I find the Pogues just meh? I don't really like or dislike this. I'd play it on St. Patrick's Day but probably not reach for it otherwise. I also don't turn to "Fairytale of New York" at Christmas but also won't skip it. I think people like the idea and spirit of The Pogues more than the actual music.
maan. Cool in a movie but no
I was aware of the Pogues' reputation, but I didn't click with this album at all.
Not my thing honestly. I can see why some people like it, but not my thing.
Would hit harder in St Patty’s
Folk punk is already a really interesting genre fusion, but *Irish* folk punk is even more interesting. Which is a real shame because there is so much potential here, but after a few songs this whole album sounds exactly the same and starts to feel really boring, and I feel like the low production really holds it back too.
The Clash meet The Rankin Family.. Not my cup of tea
Annoying
Very beloved and I'm glad that a bonkers album of this style can see such casual prestige, but man I do not care for this record.
Irish drinking music.
DNF.
I just can't do this much accordion. Fairytale of NY is a banger, though.
Irish punk? Not my thing.
Meh
They sound oddly like They Might Be Giants. Waterboys did it better
Never liked this lot. All seems a bit fake to me. The album sounded quite comercial and un-folky to me. Nah.
Jacque jumped on a table and started dancing when this came on
what did I just listen to
Musica celta/folk/punk. Não achei nada demais
Irish 90's folksy rock. Nothing made me want to listen again specifically. I did enjoy the sound and vibes overall.
I'm glad this is on the list, and it's interesting that it exists, but I couldn't make it through half the album.
It's not for me, am hour of this is way too much. I can see & agree with their huge influence & groundbreaking style. But to me it brings nothing. Also I just despise Fairy Tale of New York.
OK, not my kind of musci
Irish rock
I kinda like it and I kinda don't. I feel the space and place of the Pogues isn't mine, I have friends and associates who would really appreciate this energy and attitude. I think its something I will return to out of whimsy, but not with any strong intent. I do appreciate the attitude and energy, there are some cracking lyrics. It's just not for me. Can't quite justify 3 stars. Lets go 2.
This was Sex Pistols levels of unlistenable at times - arguably not helped by listening in a hypo. But it gets a bit of respect for its folkier songs and its attempt to do something interesting and blend British punk and Irish folk.
Couldn't get past the singing. Most of the songs sound the same. The instrumental songs weren't bad.
I'm likely missing a great majority of the meaning given my inability decipher a majority of the lyrics. Honestly not sure what to think of this, some of it is entertaining, it's all over the place in terms of musical style, lyrical content etc. Wide ranging.
I was never meant to be a sailor.
I hate the Pogues, but this one contains a few pretty interesting instrumental moments. Still can't stand a full album.
This album is so punk and the fact that it incorporates folk instruments from Ireland is pretty astounding. The songs have great themes. The vocals are unique and fit what they are trying to do. However, as the album goes, songs start blending and sounding the same. Cool concept but I just needed more variety.
Not for me. However, I could dance to this in a pub with a beautiful woman. Thus marking the beginning of a tumultuous love story
1 or 2 songs is okay, but a full album of this music is a real slog. Didn’t really enjoy this music.
Not at all what I would expect to be labeled Pop. Felt like a pirate or in a Sherlock bar fight while listening to this
2 - Wasn't my thing with their other album on the list, still isn't my thing now. I mean, if you like this genre of music, I'm sure this is great. I remember this album being a bit odd and varied, which at least makes it a bit more memorable than the other one.
Metropolis felt like a spy movie scene, but this sounds like Irish pirate music. Saying the f word isn’t cool, especially twice
Meh
If you’re from Boston and like to fight, you love this album. You know the type of white American that pretends to be Irish even though no one in their family has ever actually been to Ireland? This album is their soundtrack.
It’s just not that good. Maybe if I was Connor mcgregor
Not my cup of tea. Irish folk music is the description that comes to mind.
I'll be honest I couldn't understand what Shane MacGowan was signing about for most of the songs. I liked the music think his signing wreks most tracks. I have always said Fairytale of New York is over rated and I stand by that. Quite liked fiesta. P.S there are better songs called worms out there
Takes me back to me Irish roots.
I was either born in the wrong century or on the wrong continent to appreciate this music. +1 for the diversity of the music. - 1 for me just not liking most of it.
May save for some rpg game background music
real talent, but not my style
I just can’t get into this band. I love the Irish, but apparently not their music.
Aggressively Irish. Not particularly for me today.
HMMMMM. Like celtisk musikk, men ikkje celtisk punk.
Sorry I can’t
Oh fuck off
eh
I listened to the original release track listing, not the 2004 reissue. Many of the songs I felt like I was in some theme park or watching a movie where the characters are thrown onto a dance floor and must do some crazy group dance. For those songs' high tempo and energy I expected to like it more, but I wanted it to be more catchy and for the main vocalist to sound less subdued. Overall very folksy but with a wide range of stuff that sounds jazzy and influenced by other countries; it's well-made but not something that excites me. 4/10
Well, this was a different album. Somewhere crossed between British punk, mariachi, polka, and a sea shanty, The Pogues win an award for weirdness. While the upbeat tempo and interesting musical shenanigans helped keep interest through the album, the high praise seems perhaps unreasonable.
Some things just aren't for me. This style of music is one of those. This group is the best at that style. That makes for good listening for 3-4 songs. Then I hope that maybe I stop hearing it.
Fever dream of an album at times, not sure I love the blend of punk and folk despite my typical enjoyment of those genres. +1 of the original sound and lyrical content, but music is just not for me.
Not really my kind of music, I do generally like celtic music, especially those with uilleann pipes, but this is just not it for me.
Not my favourite album. Didn’t love the mix of punk and traditional Irish music. 2/5
I didn’t love it, it feels like the manic backing track to a comedy movie scene. I suppose it has its place but wherever that is I must be a stranger. It does seem like music that would be much better live than recorded.
Not for me
There are so many folk-rock albums out there which supersede this one, that I am wholly vexed why this album is in the list. At times I hear poor imitations of Fairport Convention from an instrumental viewpoint, and at other times the singing and lyrical content does that "joke rock" thing that became prevalent in the 1990s (among acts such as The Presidents of the United States, etc.). While I appreciate the musicality, I feel like there are much stronger albums in this genre that could have been included in this list. Underwhelmed.
This was really not my thing. My score doesn't reflect upon the quality, just didn't like it.
I get it. They're Irish. I wanted to like this one, but it was about 30 minutes too long. 3 feels too high. 2 feels low, but they don't let you give half scores.
devuelvan las malvinas
not for me
not for me
Not it for me
Oh great, another Pogues album. It starts out better than the other one, musically I kind of like it actually. The main problem remains the singing - or more accurately, drunk wailing - of Shane MacGowan, most obvious in 'Fairytale of New York' (full disclosure: I didn't listen past this song). Why that song ever became a hit I cannot fathom. It's bad enough that I have to listen to it every December, I'm not going to put myself through that at any other time of year. 2 stars for the Irish tunes.
Wasn't familiar with the Pogues before this and didn't know this genre predated Flogging Molly. Interesting, but not my bag.
This was a tough one. I wanted to like it a lot and a few of the more highly rated songs I did. But just did not hook me. The influence they have had on other bands though seems evident.
You probably deserved a 1 considering I needed to suffer through 2 of your albums on this generator. Both albums were pretty awful. But somehow, not at that level of awful. Not coming back ever, that's for sure.
D+ If I Should Fall From Grace with God - 1 Turkish Song of the Damned - 2 Bottle of Smoke - 1 Fairytale of New York - 3 Metropolis - 2 Thousands Are Sailing - 2, tell me this ain’t Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Fiesta - 2 Medley: the Recruiting Sergeant / the Rocky Road to Dublin / Galway Races - 2 Streets of Sorrow / Birmingham Six - 2 Lullaby of London - 2 Sit Down By the Fire - 2 The Broad Majestic Shannon - 1 Worms - 2 As expected, The Pogues are an embarrassment to music everywhere, except Ireland. Bloody torturous, innit?
I want to like it, but I don't.
2.5
You can't really deny this album of its spot on this list. Its strange uniqueness warrants an appearance, because not many albums can simultaneously sound like traditional Celtic music, Christmas music, and punk music. It's not something that I came away as a new fan of, but it's something I was pleased to have been exposed to at the very least.
Not a fan.
I feel being a few beers deep in an Irish or British pub would go a long way to helping me enjoy this album more.
Only the Christmas song pushed this to 2 stars.
Ehhh not for me. Sounds like every other Irish rock band I've heard. Same instruments, same themes. Just didn't wow me.
It was okay. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it, but if it comes on I wouldn't mind.
Hmmm. Wasn’t for me, I didn’t get a lot out of this. I felt like it was…not gimmicky, but just so intensely stylized that it was hard for me to connect with it on a genuine level. I can’t say it was a bad album, just something super unfamiliar to me. So for as much as it didn’t resonate with me, it was a cool opportunity to listening to some Celtic music and try to grow more accustomed to it. Faves: Metropolis, Thousands Are Sailing, The Battle March Medley, Fiesta
The instrumentals/vocals are well done to my ear, just think this isn’t the genre for me. An hour of distinctly Irish music felt a bit tiring when the Pogues opt to use a small set of keys over and over, with not much rhythmic variation on top to spice things up.
Weird Irish rock. I liked one song but the singing really kills what they have going on with the instruments. I'd rather listen to The Cranberries or The Dubliners.
I'm not in Ireland. See next review Pogues for more context. Still got some banging tunes haha e.g Fairytale of NY
Like listening to high school drama class warm ups. There a time and place for this and yesterday was not it
Yeahhh I was really not feeling this one. Extra star for cultural significant and I did really like the last few songs but little else. The random Spanish songs stuck out but were fun.
irish folk punk. it's good for what it is but not music I'd listen to
Some people are really into raucous sloppy irish bar bands, not this guy
oof that was a slog. Could see enjoying it after a few pints, tho.
Not my cup of tea.
An okay album by the Irish band. I get having one of their albums on this list but two seems silly. Their music isn’t that amazing. By now I’ve learned that my musical taste just isn’t completely in line with this catalog of albums. Having two albums by the pogues is a great example of it. But this is fine I guess. 5.5/10
👍
It’s bad

Interesting album. Not my bag.
Never hopped on the Celtic bandwagon, and it appears that won't be changing anytime soon. This just isn't something I'd actively seek out.
sure, if I was in the mood (rare)
SNORE
I was gonna give this a 3 but then after some rampant discussion i realized that i almost certainly will never listen to this album again. So 2 it is.
They're kind of fun, but I have a hard time getting over just how bad their lead singer is. He's comically awful, and it makes it so that songs that should be easy sing-alongs are not, there's no tune to sing along to and you can't tell what he's saying anyway. All their songs kind of sound the same to me too. Relative to the other albums on this list, this has something of a novel sonic palette with all the traditional folk instruments on it. But they're not actually doing anything new - they're just playing Irish folk with a drum kit and electric guitars, and guys like Fairport Convention do that same thing better.
Not for me but I know someone who would like this. 4/10
My 2nd album from the Pogues. Not my fave.
English band playing Irish punk rock with a heavy folk influence. This album is a decent example of the genre, that since has evolved and produced much better bands and records, with a notably example of Dropkick Murphys. The Pogues provided a breath of fresh air during 80s, but since then, their album can be played in a small Irish pub in the middle of nowhere, by a live tribute band, with only drunk people paying any attention to the music. After two times that I've heard this album, I still can't distinguish any specific song. Cohesiveness of the record makes it harder to enjoy the music. Songs are meshed together into one long 50 minutes composition, with no distinctive features. While it can be still enjoyable, I believe it is highly outdated and should be celebrated as a monument of past and not a beacon of irish punk greatness.
The lyrics are rich and full of story and poetic imagery. But I can’t get on the pirate shanty vibe as very repetitive. If it wasn’t for the Xmas song it would be one star!
Okay. Fun for drinking
While I appreciate it for what it is, I don't much care for it myself, and by the time I get about 5 songs in, I'm itching to turn it off. What I can appreciate is the format they popularized and cleared a space (however niche) for. To the extent that groups like the Decemberists have space for their rich storytelling, and bands like Titus Andronicus (on 'The Monitor' specifically) drunkenly slur over their roiling tunes, I can appreciate the place that the Pogues occupy on this list.
Did not finish
I appreciate the band and what they're doing more than I enjoy the music — certainly over the course of a full album. I would dig these guys in a live setting and the arrangements are impressive, especially coming from a listener with a decidedly non-traditional-Irish musical background. But I was tired of the album before it ended, and while I think it merits more than two stars, I'll let Marianne's higher rating pull mine up to 2.5 or more. Glad I listened, I wouldn't have picked this out of the list on my own.
I know people love The Pogues. I am not one of them. I've tried. My low ranking is just a personal opinion based on my taste and not about the quality of the music.
2/5 Sounds like a good Irish Folk/Punk album. Not really my thing however so I can't rate it highly in regards to other Irish Folk/Punk albums. Favourite song was Turkish Song of the Damned. Production doesn't sound that great, wish there was some separation between the vocals and instruments on the more chaotic songs.
A type of music I am not used to listen. Interesting blend, but dont touch me.
I was thoroughly enjoying myself up until about track 7 on the album. I glanced at Spotify and saw there were 12 tracks left. This would be the easiest 4/5 if the album was half the length. Upbeat folk tunes that I could see myself getting out of my seat and dancing at the pub to. I have to rate this on a complete listening experience. The second half of the album is an absolute slog to finish and gave me very little enjoyment outside of The Dubliners features. 2/5
Classic Irish Folk. seemed like a predecessor so that flogging molly's could fly. Turkish song i liked
I'm not drunk enough for this.
Irish punk rock isn't quite my scene, and this gets there even less.
I'm usually pretty open minded, especially about world music, but I just did not enjoy this at all
Blei sliten ette andre songen. + For fairytale in new york men ellers ganske plagsomt
HMMMMM. Like celtisk musikk, men ikkje celtisk punk.
Didn't recognize the song changing. One hell of fiddling and diddling.
list so white
If the Clash doing Irish jigs is your thing, then you are going to love these guys. If you are expecting anything that sounds like "Lorca's Novena", then you are feeling like I do right now.
Not my thing at all, some well known classics, but I never bought into the whole thing. Music for nutters
Annoying
Is this the eighth Pogues album on here? Certainly "Fairytale..." is a good song. And the rest are stylistic of the Pogues... but as mentioned earlier, do we need to have this album to fill out our list of 1001 albums. I think one album by the 10,000 Maniacs would be nice to have in this list.
I am still an apathetic Pogues listener.
Irish jig music
Meh
I
Absolutely the most irish / english album of all time
Banjo music
It was enjoyable enough to listen to but not something I'd go back to again.
Obviously, Fairytale of New York is an all-time classic, but, this was rough to get through otherwise. I'm sure this album hits the right place for certain people, but, this was not for me.
Maybe 2 is a bit harsh but too many sounded similar. A good energy to it and some obvious high points
You Irish? You drunk? You Pirates? I got bored after a few songs. Certainly cannot listen to 20 of them in a row. I did like "the Irish Rover" though. There must be hundreds of little bands that aren't any worse or better. Who gave these guys a record deal?
Celtic colonialism vibes
First/second/third impressions are that this would be a blast to hear live in a smallish pub in Ireland - fun foot-stomping, get the crowd going a bit. On disc though? Doesn't hold much for me - the music is good but tends to get repetitive in sound/pattern and Shane McGowan on vocals gets....old. Recusing myself a bit as this likely has more of a cultural bent to it and they do sound talented but as a collection of songs to listen to I think I could do 2 or 3 at a time but as a full album it's not something I'm likely to return to. 4/10 2 stars.
OK but I wouldn’t seek it out except Fairy Tale of New York which you can’t avoid at a certain time of year! 2*
Pretty hilarious that we get this within a week of the Waterboys album. From Irish folk-tinged rock to rock-tinged Irish folk. I find this one decidedly less enjoyable than the previous album. The Waterboys had great, earworm melodies and this one serves more as a punk-y spin on traditional tunes. I can't say this is bad, and this style of music certainly has a place, but that place is not my ear canals. I love hearing traditional music from around the world, but the '80s revival context that this represents doesn't sit the same with me. I struggled to find any songs here worth saving. Thank god for the Popeye ass vocals on "Mountain Dew." Favorite tracks: Mountain Dew. Album art: Just a band photo of these disgruntled lads. Glancing about, I spy Morrissey, Justin Timberlake, Pokey Lafarge, even Elon Musk. Eh, couldn't be pricked. 2/5
I hate to rate some of these albums with less than 3 stars because they aren't bad, necessarily, they're just not my thing. But since we can't give 1/2 stars... Irish folk-punk music is NOT my thing. LOL
I think I have heard fairytale of New York way too many times and that may have negatively influenced my opinion of the entire album
A shift towards songs that can be danced to, sung anthemically or otherwise accessed instantly. A bigger sound, brassy and jubilantly rhythmic, that's as pleasing as it's designed to be but which out of necessity, carelessness or something else sacrifices the detailed, Dickensian, grand mythical effect of Rum, Sodomy and the Lash. No disputing these are good stories, but they're vehicles for inducing a pleasurable kind of ribaldry rather than carefully-crafted stories of ribaldry that transport the listener into their tumultuous scenes.
Not my cup of tea.
Not even a strong example from within the “genre” - take out fairytale and it’s an easy 1 star
Don't understand.
How many Pogues albums are gonna be in here 🙄
Not something i would listen too normally. But I would definitely watch them at a festival of ever given a chance. Overall I did enjoy it. It’s a high 2
2.2 - A mixed bag - some interesting surprises, some atrocious. It started off with some Irish type ditties but with profuse swearing and grunty, confrontational vocals. Think soccer hooligans. Along the way, there are some interesting instrumental tracks that blend disparate influences, particularly from American easy listening and Broadway. Some of the more traditional Irish/Welsh folk songs sound vital and upbeat.
Ehhhhhh happy Saint patty’s couldn’t finish 2.1
No thanks
A bunch of really great musicians playing trad Irish stuff...and Shane McGowan is also there.
Ilosta irkkuilua, mut ei mitään erikoista
folk şov ilgilenmiorum
A challenging album to listen to.
1/2
Every one of these songs sound like the punk music in Pro Skater 4 but more folky. The first 3 tracks have blended together, with the second being my favorite. It sounds like pirate music. The vocals are good Metropolis sucks, it sounds like half pirate music half 50's superhero motif. I think I get what the deal is with the chaotic blending of sounds, but it is not fun to listen to. Okay look I don't really care. Like if there's an album all about how much someone loves being American and misses their country I'm probably not going to give a shit about it. Ireland is cool and I'm sure there's a rich culture, history, and heritage over there - but I do not care. With that being said, Thousands Are Sailing is an enjoyable song that sounds unlike any of the tracks that preceded it. Mostly anyway. Look man music can and should be fun, but Fiesta is just too much. I'm tapping out here and will pick back up tomorrow. I'm listening to Nathaniel's Iron Maiden album instead, I am not excited to jump back into this one. Hell I ran back a Bob Dylan song before I reopened this album, hahahaha. Ok we're coming back at track 8. Dude this shit sucks. It's well made but I hate the way it sounds and I don't give 2 fucks about Ireland. I didn't sleep enough last night I'm not havin it today. Hey isn't Aiedyn an Irish name. The Broad Majestic Shannon is okay. I still don't like it. I'm just gonna go ahead and set up for the end of the review; I'm going to get through it, but I checked out a long time ago. Favorite: Thousands Are Sailing Least Favorite: Metropolis, Sketches of Spain Shotout: Uhhhh. The Broad Majestic Shannon? 1 star. I went ahead and skimmed their other album on this list and it's the same shit.
This was really hard to listen. Hard to say why. The way the harmonies work, how the instruments are treated, they are just quite hard to let in.
Still can’t stand Celtic stuff, even if they do mix in some Turkish and stuff.
puta que pariu viu DE NOVO ISSO vsf
sorry to say i didn’t finish this, tavern music is not my jig :(
Cool for like 2 songs then it lost me
Liked Breaking the girl Mellowship slinky in major B The power of equalty
No es mi estilo
1/5. It sounds okay and toes into enjoyable, but stays within a sound that is akin to... precursor boom clap hey/pirate/folk music that never finds a natural cohesion.
Didn't enjoy this nearly as much as their first album. Hectic, chaotic and made my head hurt.
q carajos es esto
🇨🇮🇨🇮irish moment 🇨🇮🍀🍀🍀
wtf
i cant handle it
Diddly diddly dee - sorry can't stand this. Fairytale is the only redeeming song but its been played to death, so i hate that as well!
Not for general listening and not really for me. It feels like a sound track to something. It was be a banger in an 1800s pirate tavern. It does some interesting stuff, but it's not for me
I’d rather die than listen to another song on this album. This was genuinely some of the worst music I’ve ever heard in my life.
No es mi estilo. La voz del cantante me pareció molesta.
not my cup of tea mate
I like the folk based melodic phrasing and can put up with the singing style, but the constant banjo plucking, cheesy grating accordion and the monotonous reel rhythm really grind my gears. A tedious slog.
don't really appreciate irish or whatever punk
m,mmm
18 straight songs of jig and polka that sound exactly the same. Absolute trash ⭐️
Can’t believe there’s a second album from this band. The first one was swashbuckler pirate bullshit, the only reason I remember it is because I was so blown away with how weird and out of place it was on this list. If this album is the same vibes I’m not listening all the way through. Through song 1 I have low hopes. More pirate bs. I’m done after 2 songs. It’s the same exact shit. I didnt like the first one, I’m not going to like this one. This genre just did not last the test of time. I don’t understand how two of basically the exact same album Make this list but there’s other albums that are subjectively better and have more sales and listeners that are not on this list. It was clearly made by a white guy from Europe. JAA. 1.4 for trying.
M’a irrité.
like kinda fun i guess? i only made it halfway through so that probably says something
It's not my style
I refuse.
irish folk… not for me
Nice
the most irish thing i've ever heard in my entire life i could not get past the third song
Gogol Bordello meets East Coast meets British Punk. Not my favourite.
Really want to like this record. I’ve heard great cover songs of the Pogues and I know how revered Shane MacGowan is…but this just is not it for me. Sorry.
What even is this?!
If I Should Fall From Grace With God: hmmm it truly just isnt my type of song...ive never been too fond of this music genre Turkish Song of the Damned: not sure how i feel about this one...i like it a little but it also sounds so similar to the previous one... Bottle of Smoke: sounds exactly like the last song Fairytale of New York: i dont like this one at all... Metropolis: i liked how it started but it got not good after... Thousands Are Sailing: didnt like it Fiesta: yeah this album just isnt for me Medley: The Recruiting Sergeant/The Rocky Road To Dublin/Galway Races: at this point im just listening out of duty Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six: dude this album wont end i didnt want to torture myself any longer so i didnt listen to any other songs. 0/10 i really didnt like this
Why does this list have so much punk
Shit
Yuck
No
Once again it weren’t for me x
59/1089 1.4229* If aliens landed on earth and asked to either hear quintessential Irish music or face human extinction, this would be a feasible album recommendation. This is the first album that was a struggle to complete. I wouldn't want to be stuck in a room with this on repeat. If you're into Irish music then I know you'd like it but i couldn't stand it..and this is coming from someone with a not-too-distant family name of O'Shannon.
My brain isn't ready for this punk crossover, and I know that's got to do with my own ignorance. If I knew more about Irish folk, if I invested more time into Celtic music in a very general sense, I'd probably appreciate this more. But those vocals, that cadence, the speed, it beats at my eardrums like something is not quite right. I understand what's happening, and I get how it influences bands in the future, bands I can appreciate more. It just doesn't help me appreciate this one by a lot. The Battle March Medley was the only track that made me stop to consider my opinion, and as that's the instrumental track. I figure my issue is mainly the vocals. 1.3/5
Ich kann mit Schunkelrock überhaupt nix anfangen
Not for me
Odd transition from bottle of smoke to fairytale of New York. I can’t listen to this anymore it’s so bad.
Couldn’t even get through his album because it was too harsh to the ears. I love a folky old-timey record as much as the next person, but there was way too much accordion in it for me.
...
Klingt wie österreichische Volksmusik nur in Englisch. Nicht mein
Nice if you are in a pub
Nada mi tipo, interesante genero
This is what the vampires from Sinners sound like to me
are all 22 million monthly listeners of these people deaf? i’ll be honest, i couldn’t listen to the whole thing, i couldn’t get through it. it’s jst noise, i can’t even tell what im listening to. it wouldn’t even be bad if they jst fixed the volume on all the sounds. i can’t hear a word they guy is saying, i can’t hear anything.
This sounded like one long song. Not for me.
Not into that style
Not really my type of music
This is Jeffrey Epstein, can you please delete this account, I Jeffrey Epstein want to use this to please my boss Donald J Trump. Thank you sincerely.
turned off after 20seconds
Nah
Made it 3 songs in- sounded way too folky and crazy for me. Went back to listening to Big Thief
Very folksy album. It's very clear they had a lot of fun in the studio with this one. Overall, not for me at all.
The lead singer's voice hurts my ears. Too bad, I thought the instrumentals were interesting, maybe get a better singer and try again. 1.0
I absolutely hate this. Everything in me hates this. I hate the fiddle, I hate the singing, I hate the doodlydoooo songs. I don't think any volume of alcohol could make me like this sea shanty punk irish ballad shit. I can't. Please make it stop. At least they seem to really have fun making this which lifts it above TS and Linkin Park
Jesus Christ man. Maybe I would like this if I was listening to it live at a renaissance faire. Or at a pub. And actually, I probably would like it then. But not while I'm just trying to cook some fucking eggs, or drive to Aldi. Christ this was long. Weirdly I am glad I listened to this, because man is it unique. Just sort of unique in a bad way. Yarr. By the way, Guinness sucks. Fave tracks: - Metropolis - Fiesta
