Reviews (page 8 of 8)

I'm not much of a fan of the good hardcore punk albums, let alone this. Great name, great album name, but thats where it stops for me. I could picture some mid 2000's dickheads (me) creating a homemade Jackass/CKY skate compilation with a fisheye lens to this album.

Too harsh… not for me.

Musik: 🎸🎧☠️🤷‍♂️ Wertung: 1-2/5

It's brevity is pretty well it's only redeeming feature.

Yelling, heavy metal. I don't give many 1s. This is a 1, or less.

кал нереальный)

Terrible. I’d like to see the drummer on video. Nuts. Only saving grace was it’s short.

Not for me.

Not for me.

Pretty manic. Fortunately the entire album was only 15 minutes long.

Has this idiot never heard of singing? what are these lyrics. what is that title. what are these songs called. The only good thing about this album is that it switches up every minute… but the songs are basically exactly the same except with slightly different lyrics, always about drugs. 2/10 (for the energy and the fact it’s thankfully so short).

Bescheidene Schreie

The best part of the album was the runtime of 15 min. Like all hardcore punk it don't appeal to me. It's probably more fun to play than listen. The chords feel uninspired, vocals are just shouts and the drums are just all over the place so the title of the album fits the style. I can handle and enjoy growling in death metal but the shouting and screaming in hardcore punk is just annoying to me.

Ihan jees.

speedrun album any%

Loud, obnoxious, mercifully short.

Hardcore punk or not, it's not an artistic statement to me, it's just crap

Are you kidding me? This isn't good. If there's any song on this album that I like, it's Don't Care, which is also a perfect summation of this listening experience. At least it's blissfully short.

Um....the entire album is only 15 minutes long. 14 songs completed in 15 minutes. I couldn’t get into it. The vocals were just a lot of ranting and yelling. The instrumentation is there, but the vocals ruined it for me on most of the tracks.

Punk rockers were just an earlier form of hipster douchebags: just "edgier". The irony is that in order to properly rebel and not conform, one had to totally conform to what it meant to be punk. Ironic, isn't it?

Bit of a contrast to yesterday's Billy Holiday, but perversely easier to listen to the whole album. Probably because it's only about 25 minutes long. Listen up the likes of Green day, THIS IS PUNK YOU ARE NOT!!! It is raw energy with little or no talent. It's not my cup of tea, but for some reason I still have respect for it. And because of that I want to give it a 2, but don't think I really can. Will have to wait until tomorrow to see what I eventually do.

What's weird about the extranorindary brevity is how much shorter it really could – and probably should – have been. The rationale behind history's regard for punk – basically, that the worse it was, the better it was; the less talented the musician, the greater artistic integrity – seems harder to justify with each passing year. Certainly, it's significantly overrepresented in this esteemed list.

Funny but furious

Super yuck.

I’ll pass on Group Sex Circle Jerks

Well, it was painful. Very loud, very fast, very primitive punk rock with awful musicality and lyrics. At least it was really short. Probably the shortest album on this challenge.

Appalling

To me a lot of American punk bands seemed to be fake and just trying to attract attention with their "look at me I'm a bad boy" antics designed to shock - this band is no exception and it hasn't aged well.

I’m sure I’ll have said this before, but older punk music is very hit and miss for me. It’s strange, because modern punk is usually a safe bet for me, but I always find the older stuff to be a little TOO messy. Let’s listen and find out how today’s album is. Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Operation Unfortunately, I want really able to enjoy anything about this album. I’ve highlighted Operation as one of the better songs, but it’s still pretty terrible to my ears. The only positive point I can really say is that it is a very short album. The bad points were the poor production (I know it’s not very pink to have high quality production, but this sounded like it had been recorded in a garage with a cheap mic), the vocals were quite annoying, and the music in general was just very uninteresting. I’d find it hard to recommend this album to anybody.

Punk isn't really for me I think

I guess punk is about the message so I read along with some of the lyrics. No substance was found there. Musically it's also very lazy. Punk can be great but can also be an easy excuse for bad musicians too record bad music.

Nein danke! Ich hasse derartige „Musik“ mit Inbrunst.

Not for me

15 minutes of hardcore punk that I will never listen to again

What the fuck did I just listen to? The only positive I have to say about this is at least the songs, and hence the whole album, was really short and over quickly. I like the sound, but the vocals and lyrics are junk.

No thanks

okay some of these tracks are actually pretty good when i poked through but the lyrics and content are soooooo edgelord and misogynistic that i can't listen further

it's punk whatever - most of the songs just melted in my brain and sounded like that one punk song. i dont care for it as its not my type of music.

"Square Dorks" is more like it.

Well that was short and painful. What exactly is the problem here, to paraphrase the great Brando line, I don't see what they are rebelling against. The Wiki notes seems to tell a story of self indulgent drug addled art students, this is about as punk as my Breville coffee machine.

I look forward to reading from one or more of you what's to like about this.

At least it’s short.

everything about this album was horrendous but hilarious. the 16 minutes really tied it all up. i appreciate it for making me giggle but nothing else.

i absolutely LOVELOVELOVE .... that this was only 16 minutes long. TL;DR: no. 1 star.

What is this name :| not listening

its a shitty ramones

Holy shit this is ass

Shit was ass and I thought the 80s had great music. Only thing good was how fast it ended

It is a 15 minute punk album and it is not good. I don't need to hear it again.

I could not distinguish this album from all the other punk albums out there.

I have two perspectives on this. 1. This is inspirational. If some label is willing to front money for studio time that yields an album less than an hour long, and of the quality and caliber of this band, then for the love of all that is holy, I should be able to chase my wildest dreams and live to be on some top 1001 list. 2. I can’t get back the 49.5 minutes of my life that was wasted and marred by this awful f^*#ing string of untuned notes together, backed by terrible boom-chick drumming on double speed.

In between each of the tracks, there was 2-3 seconds of silence. This respite from the noise that preceded or followed it was by far the best part of the album.

With just over 15 minutes, this must be the shortest album I have ever heard. ... and that is the only remarkable thing about this album. This is another one of those late 70s/early 80s punk bands who have traded talent for loudness. There is attitude, but not much else to go on. What a boring waste of perfectly good 15 minutes. 1/5

An entire album of skits I guess, a 16 minute long album not sure if that qualifies as an album or an EP but either way, no thanks.

Punk album. And not a particularly good punk album.

Volim punk al je ovo pre HC za mene toliko da je skoro neslusljivo. Pokušala sam naći neku supstancu ili neku ljepotu u tom svemu al nisam uspjela

Today's Album: "Group Sex" by Circle Jerks - At first this album hit me like a slap to the face, being incredibly abrasive and sounding almost unmusical, but after a while, the manic screaming vocals and frantic instrumentals sort of came into frame. It never got to the point where it sounded genuinely good, but I understand the punk perspective this comes from and I think it's a good example of a punk band being purposely unbearable. The whole album is only 15 minutes long which is extremely merciful and honestly smart because all of these songs work way better as short sonic experiments than as 3 minute tracks making up a 50 minute LP. I have to really emphasize that the instrumentals are really quite good. They sound like they're way too frantic at first, but they really are impressive if you listen in. I think if the album has one huge problem, it's the writing. I don't mind the grating vocals or out of tune guitars as much as lyrics like, "I've got the world up my ass" and "I don't care, nice parents anyway". There are a decent amount of political messages throughout the album, especially in the anti-war track Paid Vacation, but I think it just ends up feeling kind of dated at this point in a similar way Green Day's criticism of Bush's America in American Idiot does and most of the punk ideas just come across as whiny and edgy. "I don't want to live to be34" just scream teenage edge-lord from 1980 headbanging to his bedroom cassette player. Again, I think this album is really surprisingly listenable, but I think none of these tracks have any merit on any playlist and the lyrics are all just sort of insufferable. Also, the vocal delivery is very stagnant throughout and doesn't vary much, which gets annoying even after this short runtime. All I have to say is thank god this album is only 15 minutes. Overall, don't listen to this album. It really just has so few redeeming qualities and only isn't a 1 because some ideas have merit. Score: 3/10 exceeded expectations, but still grating. Highlights: N/A

it’s fine?? i mean, wholly unremarkable. i have heard better punk. i can appreciate the punk genre enjoys going against the grain/system/the man, but circle jerks are trying all too hard. i guess i’m glad no more than fifteen minutes of my life was dedicated to listening to this album.

I really liked "World Up My Ass"

Not for me.

Juvenile for the sake of being juvenile. Feels like music for kids that don't have a taste in music yet and want to pretend they do. It all blurred together as loud without any good reason for being loud. The vocals were eh and the lyrics were worse.

applies punk filter

Really not my style

Probably the shortest album I’ve heard. Less than 20 minutes and not one of it was worthwhile. All pretty much generic punk screaming and complaining. 2.2/10

I do not love hardcore punk. I really did not like this,

1/5 dafuq was that?

“If you're looking for nuance, you're pretty much out of luck.”

I've listened to the first 10-25 seconds of the first five songs and that was enough to conclude that, for me, this is probably the worst album on this list so far. This is basically the pure essence of what I can stand the least in music.

Very punkish. Sounds like an album that would play during riots or chaos but not really my thing

This is kinda like rating William Shatner’s cover of Mr. Tambourine Man. It’s not his worst song, but all his songs are putrid. Similarly, as far as the hardcore genre goes, there are worse albums than Group Sex, but the entire genre is a 1. You’ll get a good laugh if you find William Shatner’s cover of Mr.Tambourine Man on You Tube. Then at least something positive will come from having to listen to Circle Jerks. Your welcome. --

Gimme a break! Another American band late to the punk party so they decide to do speed up the songs and cut them down to a minute to be different. Such juvenile lyrics.

Very unforgettable but mercifully short

מה יהיה עם כל הרוק מפוצץ ראשים הזה לא אוהבת צרחות

Sure it was revolutionary blah blah blah so boring in 2021

I knew the name of the band but none of the music. 14 tracks in 15 min 25 sec. I didn't find anything I'd listen to again. There were tracks I would skip every time.

- almost without talent. - trying very hard - drums miss the transitions more often than not - lyrical delivery really shows up how vapid the lyrics are. - it's short and I still didn't finish it

Straight up trash. Short, annoying, and painful, like a rock stuck in your shoe or a bad partner.

Not my cup of tea

That's 15 minutes of my life I won't get back

Tf is this shit

Американский панк рок 80х. Трескотня муз инструментов и кричалко-лозунги, скороговорки. Говно. Блювота. Понос.

Not into power punk.

Completely lacking in musicality. Basically a lunatic raving at a mic with some random power chords in the background. This kind of self-serving music is pointless to me.

Longest 15 minutes of my life.

30 second for this album was wat I needed. Punk is not my music.

Eh, not big on this. Lots of energy, but very little interesting lyricism or much of anything else
