Really fun album! 4/5
I dunno these are some hot cheesy jams. I’m going 3.5+
I listened to this a LOT during the 80's (even had the ZZ keyring for my car). I still listen to ZZ Top a bit but haven't really heard this album for years. Surprised me how much of the "album tracks" would fit in with their regular blues rock stuff, alongside the obvious pop-singles on this album. Back in the day I'd probably want to skip over them lol A surprisingly solid ZZ Top album.
A few out of play songs like thug and TV dinners are the only thing driving this classic classic rock album into somewhat corn ball territory. Otherwise an obvious classic was so many callbacks big hits and representation of the ZZ Top sound. It can only be a four.
bastante bueno, linda música, lindos ritmos
Good. 3.9
The most standard, cookie cutter classic rock. Great fun; lots of sweet licks and groovy sounds.
Classic, classic rock. Strong vibes. Solid all around.
Classic.
and....brilliant
🤘 Classic Rock, Long Beards, what’s not to like?
N/a
So many hits here. Listening through, I do think that I prefer some of the grittier production on their earlier stuff, though I’m not sure how much of that is owed to the fact that I was listening to the 2008 remaster on streaming. Still not sure why we feel the need to remaster perfectly fine albums every 15 years or so. But yeah, this album rocks.
Good ol' fashioned American Rock. First half was better than the second half, but still solid all the way through if you like some sick guitar riffs.
Very good!
Blues rock. Un megahit. Un 4 porque tiene muchas canciones lentillas.
I liked this album a lot. The first time I actually listened to ZZ Top. They weren't a cheesy 80s band after all. The first half was brilliant. "Eliminator" is a good introduction to ZZ Top. I'll give it 4 stars.
Great ZZTop album. Minus a star for succumbing to 80s synth and drum machine cliches
Solid
Classic rock album from start to finish. Love it.
Give me al your lovin and sharped dress man are clsssics. Great songs. Legs is also a cracker. Love that bass line slapping on the song “thug”. Some great guitar work and solos throughout this album.
Day154 - i prefer the more bluesy sound of tres hombres but this was a huge album with the iconic car and videos
Has a song about TV dinners which is neat
Surprised this kinda goes crazy immediately
Fun album, several really good songs
Knew it already, pretty good.
A bunch of nostalgic songs my dad would listen to when I was little. Better than I remember it being, to be honest. Might listen to a few of the tracks again occasionally! 3.6
Good listen. I'd heard some of these songs but not all
I liked it better than I thought I would. Never really got into ZZ Top, but it's a bit of fun. Didn't feel like it was trying to break any new ground, but also didn't feel like that was the point. Hats off to them for choosing what they wanted to do and then doing it well.
Brabo
The idea of combining their blues sound with pop style synths was genius, and influenced a lot of other bands. The problem is the lyrics range from not great to outright terrible. There's a song about TV dinners for god's sake. If you can ignore the lyrics, this is a fun, toe tapping album.
Three great songs carry the album, the other songs are just good enough to earn a four star rating.
Good album
This was a great listen! Sometimes a little samey, but the songs are excellent.
Definitely biased - this was the first album I ever owned.
good blues rock and solid guitars 4 stars
Not a huge fan of ZZ Top, but it's a good album for them. Sharp Dressed Man is a great tune
Borrowed tape from library in 1980's. First real rock prob ? Gotta learn these songs on guitar.
this is a fun album.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Cheesy at times, but the riffs are solid and the tunes are catchy. Not to mention the sick album cover.
Great album. I love the full sound and driving tempo of their songs. They remind me of AC/DC: maybe not the most complex songwriting or virtuosic musicianship, but you can't deny that this album is 45 minutes of solid rock music.
rawk n roll baby
Great!
solid album. Pretty similar throughout but it works Standout songs: Got me under pressure I got the six Thug
I had this album back when it came out and although it was a little generic and didn't get a lot of play, some of the songs got a LOT of play on MTV and in the rock nightclubs that were prevalent in the late 1980s. I think I probably played some of these myself when I was a part-time rock DJ. I didn't think I would enjoy listening to this again as much as I did. I remembered the synth/ keyboards/ drum machine as being far nastier than they actually were. There's a driving sound to every track on here, with pretty heavy production providing a fuller sound than earlier material by ZZ Top. I prefer their earlier albums in some ways, almost like it's two different bands. But this album (and to a lesser degree the next one) were also great in their own way. There's not a bad song here, even the one about meals to be eaten in front of a television set.
pretty good! added to playlist (or already in): Gimme All Your Lovin' Sharp Dressed Man TV Dinners Bad Girl
This is a solid album and brings me right back to the 80s. The trilogy of music videos which launched ZZ Top into the mainstream with the iconic videos featuring the long bearded band with rebellious outsider narrative, even back then I felt like they were in on the joke. My favorite ZZ Top album will always be tres hombres but eliminator led me there. Recently getting to be at a surprise performance of la grange by ZZ Top frontman at a Billy Joel concert was unbelievable for me!
Wasn't expecting a lot from a ZZ Top album but was right into it. They do what they do and they do it well.
My favorite era for ZZTop. Hits are icons, and the rest are just as rocking. Billy Gibbons and the blues pentatonic scale are a match made in heaven. Perfect for when you want to spend the evening at a smoky pool hall and cut loose
I like ZZ Top, but there’s no denying that all of their songs have a very similar vibe. If you like blues rock then you’re in for a good time, but if you don’t then probably just move on. That being said, I’ve never listened to this album in full before, so let’s give it a go! Songs I already knew: Gimme All Your Lovin’, Sharp Dress Man Favourites: Gimme All Your Lovin’, Sharp Dress Man, Thug Honestly, this album was exactly what I expected it to be: blues rock with gravelly vocals. If it was any longer then I may have been at risk of my attention waning, but 44 minutes is a pretty solid amount of time for what this is. There are some genuine bangers to be found here, and some really nice bass licks in Thug. If you like this genre, definitely give this a listen.
There's certainly an 80s new wave flair to this ZZ Top effort with the synthesizers and drum machines having a notable presence on here. There's definitely some catchy hard rock and synth-rock tones to be found here, even if the lyrical content isn't particularly the most interesting.
I only know ZZ Top from their many singles and have always considered them a good greatest hits band, so exploring their actual albums will definitely be interesting. Is it an artistic statement? No. Is it fun and catchy as hell, yes. All the people on here who are on here clutching the pearls that this isn’t some brainy art rock piece are honestly so lame, this is so fun and cool. And I like a lot of that brainy art rock. Sometimes you want a really good steak, sometimes you want a shitty $5 pizza. This is that pizza, and it hits the spot perfectly, I love it. 4/5
A very solid album.
Decent album, with a few bangers. Listening to this album made me want to grow out my beard, move to the USA, buy a motorcycle, ride it to a biker bar, and start a brawl, probably getting thrown over a pool table in the process.
Really good solid rock album with some absolute bangers in.
Classic.
4/5 good!!
Definitely more my style and era of music I like better. Not every song was a winner, but overall after the last few albums that I didn't like this was a breath of fresh air.
Took me back to my childhood. I never knew who sang the songs I liked, so fun to find out ZZ Top sang some of them. They must’ve known they’d made it when Sharp Dressed Man was used on “Alvin and the Chipmunks”. :0) Not a huge fan of TV Dinners though. Would’ve thought it was a Weird Al song if it was funny, but it was mostly just blah. I’ve read that the video was popular though.
Great classic rock! Legendary!
А чё, по кайфу! Мне до этого зизитоп выпадали, и, кажется, это был более ранний их альбом. Тут мне нравится. Кайфово. Ещё и sharp dressed man хитяра.
Great album. Perfectly executed.
Great
A few classics in here
I know the hits. I will probably skip those to listen to the rest of the record. Listening to I need you tonight. This is very 80s production wise. But you still here the Texas blues rock in the voice. Really digging “I got the six”. Bad girl is a great track. I’m glad I finally listened to this album.
Riktigt bra album faktiskt. Jag blev nästan lite positivt överraskad få jag trodde att de skulle ha hitsen och sen bara tråk men det var inte ens hitsen som var de bästa låtarna.
6,5/10
Gotta love ZZTop in all their guitar-based glory!
Rating: 8.5/10 Great album overall. The energy was infectious, each song was played with so much power and passion. The guitar riffs and solos were all great and the production was very polished, which suited ZZ Top's style well. This album is pretty cheesy and one-dimensional but so catchy melodically that it does not really matter. Favorite songs: Gimme All Your Lovin', Got Me Under Pressure, Sharp Dressed Man, I Need You Tonight, Legs, Thug, If I Could Only Flag Her Down, Bad Girl. Least favorite song: I Got The Six.
Classic driving album. Would do 3.5 because it gets a little repetitive with how the songs all sound alike
Love ZZ Top and this album has a lot of their hits. Easy to distinguish their sound and has some great guitars that are blues influenced.
No notes
Cool guitar and drums. Not sure I can hear a bassist? This album has "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs." All the songs are 4 mins, but the last 1.5-2 mins are just guitar jamming. They could definitely be cut for time, unless you adore ZZ Top's guitar sound.
Always good music!!
Sharp dressed man is so good
The album that launched the drummer at the wrong gig video. Every song sounds kind of same and the first three are the best of the bunch but it's still great.
This was the big kick up for ZZ Top, coupled with the mega-saturation of the videos of the hits on MTV propelled them to superstardom. The production is super glossy and flawless, ushering in the Top’s blues with all the rough edges filed off. Gibbon’s playing is always, always bang on if not maybe a touch predictable but still he’s a king for a reason.
Album with a great consistent feel. Some more upbeat songs mixed with some more slow burners. Guitar forward. Some songs have multiple guitar solos. Sometimes the solos are a little less developed than I'd prefer but still very good.
Reminds me of duck dynasty but it wasn’t bad once I actually listened to it outside of that context.
Son geniales. 4/5.
They write whacky songs about sex, cars, and tv dinners. Then they proceed to absolutely tear up a guitar with southern rock blues licks. It’s great. They are extremely strong tracks and a couple fillers.
First 4 songs are amazing, but the next ones zzz
Gets better every time I hear it. Used to dislike ZZ Top, but this album got it all.
Quite surprising experience as I did not know the band even. Several nice songs to bop your head to. Expected Marc rating: 4
Molt millor del que pensava. m'ha sorprès molt positivament i l'estil m'encanta. Expected Lorenzo rating: 3
Very nice, familiar-sounding zz top album, liked the music but I might be biased because I like that kind of music.
Great moments in my life came at the moment of this album. And this album brings back those memories. Love it.
Really enjoyed this
ZZ Top, the "Lil' Ol' Band from Texas," had a great lane, and they ran with it. They started as a guitar-driven blues rock band, and found modest success in that format. In the eighties, they moved in a pop direction, adding synthesizers and drum machines to their songs. This addition propelled them to stardom, and "Eliminator" was their most successful album in that format. The two in front, Billy Gibson and Dusty Hill, grew beards down to the middle of their chests, giving them a signature look to add to their signature sound. Eliminator has some of their biggest hits: "Sharp Dressed Man," "Gimme All Your Loving," and "Legs." Their simple, guitar driven mixture of pop, blues, and rock drove a successful career. It isn't complex, or of significant range, but their work is solid rock songs.
ZZ Top are good fun, no long intros or experimental turns, just riffs and solos. It's frequently cheesy but I find it quite endearing. They aren't doing anything a dozen other classic rock bands haven't already but every now and then ZZ top tick the boxes, and this was one of those days.
Still surprisingly bluesy. Got Me Under Pressure and Sharp Dressed Man were my favourites. I preferred this album to the previous one on this list, but only just. Appreciate the relative brevity of the songs here.
I feel exactly the same as when I listened to Tres Hombres, its good but not great. It has some really nice sounding Blues Rock guitar throughout, goes by at a nice pace and is bookended by two great tracks. I think I just convinced myself to give it an extra star. Highlights: Gimme All Your Lovin' I Got Six Sharp Dressed Man Bad Girl
Classic Rock at its most distilled
you can't not crank this up when you're driving
New sound for the bad . Still quite good.
I really liked it. Hardcore classic rock. I recognized a couple songs and what I didn’t I still jammed to. Very good album.
Monster album for mtv era.
Arguably the zenith of ZZ Top's 'Southern Fried Rock' with radio hits and hidden gems.
Good album
Love ZZ top!
THE record to put on for a road trip across the midwest. ZZ Tops gritty blues and the overpolished eighties production shouldnt really work out, but it does.
Just a great album. I knew about half of it by heart before I even listened to it again.
One of the better mainstream rock albums from the 80s Favourite tracks: Gimme All Your Lovin’, Sharp Dressed Man, I Need You Tonight, Thug, TV Dinners
Yay for ZZ Top!! I freaking love "Sharp Dressed Man". I've never listened to this album in it's entirety before. I'm enjoying it, although I have to say, some of the songs do sound really similar to each other. 4/5 I love ZZ Top, but the album was a smidge on the repetitive side for me.
Early southern rock and great guitar riffs and lines to make excellent cruisin’ music
Цікавенько
A fan of this group since they came on the scene. Believe I became familiar with many of the songs off this album. Classic rock-n-roll with a unique style.
Great album
A classic. Brought back middle school memories
Lots of classic rocking tunes. "Sharp Dressed Man" is a famous one that I had not been able to name previously.
Great album. Fabourite songs Legs or Give you the 6
ZZ Top is like that really cool great uncle who you kinda wish you were like, but also pity in a way because they are so cool, but also likes their TV dinners too much so they’re always looking for love, but can’t quite figure out how to actually find love because they’re way too into how they dress and getting the perfect guitar tone. So in one way they’re really successful, but not in every way. Classic killer guitars though!
Saw them in mid 80's fuzzy guitars and all.
#98. I don't know why this works, but it does. Blues pop, as a concept, doesn't really make any sense. With the exception of TV Dinners, which stands out as being quite stupid, the album is a pretty fun listen. 4/5: it good
A bit too repetitive but some awesome riffs
was okay to hear
Really started off on a high note. Great listen!
Decent album, good vibe Top tracks: Sharp Dress Man, I Need You Tonight
👍
The singles off this one are still high rotation classics, 40 years later. That alone is worth 4 stars. It's a bit like an AC/DC album - if you love the sound, you'll love the whole album. If not... then not. Not quite 5 star level for me, but it's a great one.
This alumb is one of those that screams 80s, ZZ top with their big hair and big peronalities, reflect this in "Elimminator". The classic rock/blues riffs are nothing new but still fun and enjoyable. Overall i give this album 4/5.
I'm familiar with a couple of the singles, but I don't believe I've listened to a whole ZZ Top album before - it's a bit one note, but I kinda like the note so I guess it works for me! The busy always-on rhythm section makes me think of "The War on Drugs" for some reason. Fave tracks - "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs" for the ones I was familiar with, "TV Dinners" from the ones new to me!
My favorite zz top mode tho I am not a blooze rock purist. Great synth and bass work through out
If you love their hits you'll love this album.
I actually loved this album, most of the songs here are TOP. This is the exact music you would listen on a roadtrip. Some of the leatrics are dump? Yeah, of course they are, but common' it's ZZ Top, what did you expected?
Sehr gutes Album
Heard of ZZ Top but couldn’t name or him any tunes. “Hard rock” from 1983 - doesn’t sound too hard off the bat though. Quite enjoying. A low 4/5.
Gewoon een goed rock album, met een aantal bekende hits. Bijna 5 sterren, maar daar is het toch net te gitaarrock voor.
So many classics. Terrible lyrics, but super rock n roll.
An album full of hits.
4/5. I mean, it’s ZZ Top, what’s not to like? Great album by the bearded boys with some great headliners and some really solid deep tracks. I particularly enjoyed “Dirty Dogs.”
Sweet record. Classic
so fun
vibes
Some classics. Some just ok blues. Forgot all about TV dinners. Start of the electronic clicky drum sounds. Legs is the best!
Unashamedly cheesy nonsense, that's great fun to drive to. It's got it flaws but I really enjoyed this
November 26, 2023 All-time classic. The videos. The keychain. Swamp rock at it's finest.
I think zz top might be the most stereotypical rock group there is.
Another classic.
1 star for the beards. 1 star for the grooves. 1 star for how many hits they packed on one album. 1 more star for the beards. 4/5.
Can see where this album became highly regarded. Good hits and the deeper tracks can really slap. Gained a much bigger appreciation for ZZ Top. 4/5
A classic
Lekker album, maar buiten de hits staat er niet super veel bijzonders op. Toch 4 sterren.
Classic 80s alvim
Great dad rock album, nothing extremely poppin for me but solid jams all the way through.
While I don't think I'd rate any of these songs as five stars the overall album is four stars. Perhaps the mediocrity of the previous few albums I've listened to is showing through.
Although I like ZZ Top in general, this feels a bit too bland? I love the singles, and several songs have great directions, but it could use some more hard rocking songs. 7,5 out of 10
banger album
Very samey, but i like the one song! The more bluesy one is good too, but riffs and rythyms is why they are on the list. Not quite top drawer for me, but solid work, and not a band I would skip if they ever come on.
Quite fun! Enjoyed it, some screamy voices
TV Dinners! LOL
Super Album Rock.
Blues rock. Un megahit. Un 4 porque tiene muchas canciones lentillas.
Great dad rock. Enjoyed this one
fun classic rock has some bops
80s driving rock! A distinct guitar sound and style that I mostly enjoy. Strong album all the way around.
Solid. Favorite track : I Need You Tonight
Zz
Fun and energetic! Great guitars.
I bet at least two of these guys have beards.
Crushing solos and driving beat makes this one a ZZ Classic
Solid boomer music
Great album. Legs was a banger. Couldn’t understand most of the lyrics. Could have used subtitles. The best songs were at the start of the album. Things really died off after they had that ad in there about TV Dinners. 7.1
Top
Classic dad rock
This album has an MTV audience feel to it and I prefer the band's true to their roots stuff. You know, more Texas blues rock and Billy Gibbons' soul searing guitar. Still glad to have it pop up on my daily listen.
Aw yeah. Classic southern rock. Great guitars and grooves. Best song: Gimme All Your Lovin’
P good
Grew up with this album playing fairly regularly in car drives with my dad in his Corvette, so I already knew what a classic this is. But I will say as an adult and being high while listening to it? Pretty fucking good vibes all around. The singles alone make this a 4 star for me which is what it stays as overall anyway. Greatly enjoyed as I knew I would!
It's really good. I don't have much too say except ZZ Top is enjoyable. Their more high tempo songs are the best ones and I don't really care for the song "Legs". It definitely deserves to be on the 1001 album list.
Solid, pretty good. I really enjoyed listening to this. Definitely one I'll listen to again.
This might be controversial, but I think the new wave influence on the Texas trio is an excellent move. The blues is still here, but synths present here round out the bottom end, fattening the bass and giving the sound an edge. All around this is a muscular set of Southern Rock tracks held together with a tight production and even tighter playing. New Wave ultimately was a reinvigorated take on the youth music of the 50s and early 60s so everything old is new again? I can't say this album converted me into a ZZ Top fan. I had my fill of 70s classic rock sounds by virtue of growing up in small town America. It's something I've learned to appreciate but has little bearing on my life beyond representing my parents and their tastes. To the album's credit, I think it's a very strong grouping of tracks. The reputation I've heard about the 80s is many of the major releases that decade in rock feature some major hits on the first side, followed by a rapidly decreasing quality of songwriting in the second half (So, 1984, Tattoo You, Slippery When Wet, etc) This album thankfully does not have that problem. I'm going to rate this album based on how good I feel it is, but my personal tastes would have me give it closer to a 3.5/5
4 words: Dad rock final boss. That's it. That is the descriptor for this album. I mean, with a song title like "TV Dinners", what else did I expect? Take one look at Billy, Dusty, and Frank, and you know the kind of music they make and who they appeal to. And they kind of rock on this. This album really confused me in some aspects, because the instrumentation sounds electronic in some places. Like the bass, for example, is so thumping and crushing, I would swear it was a synth patch. But that is just the way the bass sounds on the album. It is honestly a little genius. The drums hit like a truck. That snare is fucking tight, and although Frank mostly just plays simple drum beats, it works, because if he did any more than that, it would drown out everything else. This album has the potential and kinetic energy of a battering ram. It is relentless, heavy, and driving in its sound, like a hammer against a nail. Honestly it was a little rough on the ears at first for me, but in the end, this type of sound had grown on me, and I wouldn't mind hearing more of it. I'm aware that this is a big switch up from what their stuff before this sounded like, and so I am intrigued to hear what that was like to see the full progression of the band.
Pretty good album. Straight up Rock 'n' Roll. No complaints here. Fun riffs with interesting instrumentation. Some songs are straight-up instrumental so you could really hear how talented these guys are. Solid album - 7.5/10. Would be higher if this is more "my taste" but regardless it's a good album and a fun listen. Can see myself coming back to this.
Okay zz top is so much more than a duck dynasty theme song... so cool. Love the instrumentals. 4.1
A classic! Great rock album with hit after hit!
The other side of ZZ, faster, more synth, more poppy but still with a groove. Enjoyed both.
Girdėtas, bet paklausysiu dar kartą
Really liked it.
Great album with lots of classics.
A lot of big hits here. I love when ZZ Top get down and dirty with their fat distorted guitar sounds. There are some stylistically different tracks, I’m not so much of a fan but I suppose respect for branching out from their usual style.
Classics are great but they kind of lost me in the second half
Boring
Very good album. Heavier bluesy 80s rock. Downloaded album.
En weer terug naar de scheurende gitaren, waar is mijn sitar? Sharp dressed man is een banger. I need you tonight is heel nice, beetje blues achtig Dat blues achtige hoor ik ook op Legs, en weet niet waarom maar de synth op de achtergrond doet me een kleein beetje denken aan Donna Summer? Heel vet! FAVO: Sharp Dressed Man, I need you tonigh, Legs, dirty dog
Ik heb een zwakke plek voor ZZ Top, zelfs binnen al het rock geweld van deze lijst. Daarnaast luistert dit album gewoon heerlijk weg. Meer baard alstublieft!! Favorieten: Sharp Dressed Man, Gimme All Your Lovin', Bad Girl
Gros sons de guitare graisseuse. Très cool écoute. Penchant pour le 3.5, mais un petit coup de coeur pour l'album.
Nice (blues)rock album, respected musicians in the genre and not just a hype of the 80s imho. For sure a lot better than some other rock bands that got famous in the 80s...
It's the same song over and over but the good news is, it's a great song!
NICE
Riktigt klassiskt rocksound, svårt att ogilla. Mycket bra bas och trummor. Favoritlåtar: Sharp Dressed Man I Got The Six Thug
Good easy listening rock music all the way through. Most songs I couldn’t differentiate between however. Rating: 4.0
Sharp Dressed Man is my favorite track from the album.
Top album from ZZ Top characterised by turbocharged rhythm section and some hard rock classics, especially Gimme all your lovin, Legs and Sharp Dressed Man. Honourable mention for TV Dinners too. Perhaps less light and shade than earlier ZZ Top albums but hugely likeable
Many classics on this album, but not worth of 5 stars
A solid rocker. Good drums and well recorded for the time. Punchy.
Zz Top is great. Good album has most of the hits
5/11, 45%
This was not a bad album might be back for more
Some classic songs on here, but also a few stinkers. Honestly not a ton of variety, but still overall good. 4/5
Growing up, my parents had a copy of Eliminator on vinyl (the damn thing sold over 10 million copies, so I'm sure a lot of people my age would say the same thing), but I'd never listened to in its entirety until today. I like ZZ Top's music, and this album was no exception. The songs here are a ton of fun, and the guys made a transition into the eighties that still kept their signature boogie-rock sound. Sure, their southwest flare fades away on this album as they transition into a sound that's more solidly southern rock, but the sweet guitar licks are here to stay, along with some new drum machine and synthesizer sounds. I'm sure the guys lost some fans back in the day with this updated sound, but I think it works incredibly well. Lyrically though, the music hasn't changed much since the seventies, but I never realized how much these guys liked cocaine (and TV dinners, apparently). I find it really impressive that an established act like ZZ Top was able to launch themselves into superstardom in the MTV age. Speaking of MTV, the music videos from this album were fantastic too; the Eliminator car and fuzzy guitars are some of the most iconic images from eighties rock. Overall, this is a great album, and not only some of the best rock of the decade, but some of the best rock from this great Texan trio. Favorite track: "Legs," by a slim margin over "Gimmie All Your Lovin'" Favorite non-single track: "I Need You Tonight"
i liked this one! i only knew sharp dressed man going into it but the album has a cool sound and some good tracks. nothing life-changing here for me but i'd listen to some of them again. favorites: gimme all your lovin', got me under pressure, sharp dressed man, legs, tv dinners
Gimme All Your Lovin, Got Me Under Pressure, TV Dinners, Flag Her Down. Guitar is Alfa. Legs is the only non Alfa song.
alfa. better than expected. last few songs get a little boring. 3.5 got me under pressure
Always love me some ZZ Top
ZZ Top I think might be top of the heap in terms of how well various dad rock groups hold up, and this is the album that brought us most of their mainstays on oldies radio, keeps solid momentum
This was one of those albums I remember from college that was everywhere. They have a great sound.
Listened Before? N Killer stuff, beginning to end. I've never listened to this one all the way through before and boy am I glad I did. I'll be putting this one in the library. Hell of an 80s rock sound, solid guitars, awesome attitude. Added to Library? Y Songs added to playlist: Got me Under Pressure, Sharp Dressed Man
Nice and catchy and some very good songs
Classic texas rock. good background music for working
80s drums ruin an otherwise great album
Put your sunglasses on and brush your beard because ZZ Top is here. Eliminator is ZZ Top pulp. Each song has the standard riff and percussion that made this band famous. It is a fun album; great to play it loud in your backyard during early summer. Really like it!
ZZ Top. No argument-HOF.
rumpumasiinaa.. peruskomppia heh... alkaa heikolla populääri rimputuksella... sen jälkeen vahvaa populääri rimputusta hehe.... vähän voisi biisejä laittaa eri suuntiin. löytyy ideoita sieltä täältä mutta ei USKALLETA... ei uskalleta valtatiestä syrjemmille kujille...hiekkateille... näin koko albumi on hyvin samanlaista 80 luku 'merikka poppia...vaikka hyvää settiä on......lyrisismi taas heh (huonoa siis) got me under pressure
Good
Classic 80s rock. Remember some car music's
Pretty solid album.
Love it cause I’m white trash at heart.
This knows what it is and executes very well. My biggest complaint is the number of fade outs to end songs. ZZ Top is not my kind of music. But I get this.
I feel like this album dominated my early childhood memories... radio, mtv, so many songs that are burned into American culture.
Fun 80’s pop ZZ Top
Enjoyed this WAY more than I expected to?
The blend of blues rock and 80s pop sounds makes this an interesting but corny listen. The guitar playing was very good but many of these riffs sound the same as the album progresses. I also wish Billy Gibbons’ voice was a tad better. “TV Dinners” might be the funniest song we’ve heard so far in this project? “I Need You Tonight” was my favorite.
Great hits, the rest of the songs on the album are pretty good. I’m a sucker for that wailing guitar.
Pretty ok dad rock.I expected zz top to be heavier due to their extreme image. It’s good though.Gimme all your lovin, sharp dressed man and tv dinners are all stand out tracks. Some songs are kind of really generic though.
I previously had known their biggest two hits, "Sharp Dressed Man" and "La Grange", but I had never done a deep dive in their discography before now. This album could have gone either way, a 3 or a 4. If I could give half stars, it would definitely be a 3.5 or much closer to 4 than 3, so I will give this one the benefit of the doubt. I really enjoyed the guitar work on "I Need You Tonight" and that was my favorite track.
Classic album, liked it a lot
Earlier ZZ Top is also really good, but this is a darn fine album in its own right. 4 stars.
How can you not like this fun uplifting music!
As far as I know, this is my first time listening to an entire album by ZZ Top. It's pretty much exactly what I'd expect from a whole album of ZZ Top - it sounds like ZZ Top. Funny that they're a band I never really got into very much because I do very much enjoy their sound. I quite enjoyed this - especially in the work truck with the windows down on a sunny day! "TV Dinners" was the one moment on the album that felt unexpected.
An absolute classic of the 80s and a rock g good album 4*
A weakish 4, a lot of the songs sound sameish but when the same is kinda banging, don't rock the boat I guess.
4.5
ALL HITS
Sums up what ZZ Top are about. Solid bangers.
Didn't know I liked ZZ Top as much as I apparently do!
A great album
I had no clue most biggest hits of ZZ Top were from this album: Gimme all your lovin', Shard Dressed Man, Legs. All blues-rock bangers, which make this a great record.
beards!
A pleasure to give this one a try. No deep concepts here and no video to distract; at core the music had some pleasant surprises. Good enough that I'll probably eventually listen to it again and try out some of their other albums.
This album was released 1 year before I was born, currently age 39, and was in heavy rotation by my parents throughout my childhood. I recall the videos on MTV and this album still rocks 40 years later! Sharp dressed man is still played at many weddings as well as legs!
Good old rock & roll. Good craftsmanship, great sound. Overall great.
It slaps.
The album where ZZ Top reinvented themselves. Unfortunately, I am of the opinion that ZZ Top is not worth more than one album for this list, which dutifully goes to Tres Hombres. But let's not disregard how well Eliminator landed for ZZ Top. The sleek 80's production and hard rock edge made the band a natural fit for the likes of MTV. While they would retain their southern rock roots, I can't help but feel like the appeal of Eliminator is in the things that should make it fail. The textured synths, the high-energy drum machine, the catchier hooks, they all spell disaster for the band that did La Grange just a decade ago. But no, it's the embrace of the musical trends of the 80's that makes Eliminator so good. Suddenly the songs are more interesting, more energized, more fun. Despite getting massively overplayed on classic rock stations, these songs have an undeniable sheen to them. Not every song on here is a winner, but by god did they do a good job with this album. A surprise, but a welcome one.
This rocks. It's awesome. There's one problem - no album that has a song like "TV Dinners" can be a 5
Album starts out with some bangers; Gimme All your Lovin', Sharp Dressed Man and especially Got Me Under Pressure are terrific tracks. Legs is also a fun track, and TV Dinners also does it for me. The rest of the tracks are also okay, but it all does sound a bit samey. All with all a great album though!
It's dated, but it's undeniably a classic. You can't go wrong with these guitar riffs and these intense, screamy vocals. Wish more music today sounded this kickass! Standout tracks are Sharp Dressed Man, TV Dinners, Gimme All Your Lovin', and Bad Girl.
Classic. 4.5/5 All great.
Heard a lot of these a million times on classic rock radio. Good songs just overplayed.
Lekker
p511. 1983. 4 stars. Stripped down Southern rock meets 80s synths and produces classic hybrid. Great guitar work and riffs, but a lot of the tracks sound the same and you can argue that most of them outstay their welcome.
This is just a fun, 80s blues rock album. I’ve listened to ZZ Top’s hit songs before, but never a full album. I was really pleased with it overall, would definitely listen to it again!
real boom boom
GREAT songs mixed in with a few OK songs.
The type of rock that makes you want to ride a big motorcycle. Solid rock with a nice groove to it.
Its a fun and good album, nothing really special in any way but it is rather enjoyable
First half of this positively rips and the second half trails off a bit but, overall, ZZ Top's immersion into the popular consciousness can be considered a success, with some of the most ubiquitous songs on here still maintaining their kicks and the other tracks getting a shine. Risks do end up turning into rewards after all. Favorites: Gimme All Your Lovin', Got Me Under Pressure, Sharp Dressed Man, I Need You Tonight, Legs, TV Dinners.
Classic
Pretty nice classic rock album
Slappin'. ZZ Top gives raw energy combined with a road trip vibe, and Eliminator even has a car on the cover - coincidence?
Favourite track(s): Gimme All Your Lovin'; Got Me Under Pressure; Sharp Dressed Man; If I Could Only Flag Her Down As the soundtrack to working out (or other activities involving bodily exertion), this album just slaps. The intro track Gimme All Your Lovin' sets the tone and the guitar crying out and being answered in the beginning of Sharp Dressed Man almost invokes some sort of primordial feeling. Now not all tracks are on that level. I Need You Tonight slows the pace down quite a bit - too much for my liking. I Got The Six luckily raises it up again and while TV Dinners feels like another low point (low in terms of this album), the album closes out on two solid tracks. While some may consider it noisy, this kind of Rock focused on guitar riffs and forward-moving beats feels like a highlight of the overall genre. Notably, I do not have enough experience with the genre to make any statements on whether ZZ Top is THE band in this regard or merely a copycat. Still, great album.
eyy, i know some of these me enjoy
rock
really good
It’s definitely good music but it’s not my thing
pretty good, easy listening. 4
The tightest band ever and this is their tightest album. 4/5
I literally own a vintage Eliminator tour jacket (in slight need of repair, but it kicks ass). Probably says enough about how much I love ZZ Top, even though I'd take Rio Grande Mud or Tres Hombres over the 80s stuff
Het album met de hits. Legs, Gimme all your lovin’.
Fun bluesy rock, reminds me of playing GTA with my brother
T3B 1. Sharp Dressed Man 2. Gimme All Your Lovin’ 3. Legs
This is tremendous. Gets a bit samesy in parts, but the good bits are ace.
Nice guitar work
Durchgängig solides Rock-Album mit 2-3 herausragenden Titeln.
Wouldn’t have listened to it, not my genre… still nice
Nicw
Rough open, and a snoozer or 2, but some of these chugging songs are strong enough to keep it securely in 4 territory.
Classic rock is classic. Fun to think of this hard rock banger coming out in the midst of New Wave revolution.
Fun album!
Fuck yeeeeaaaah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
R R R Real Rock Shit
I find this combination of boogie, blues, and synth rock to be really interesting and Eliminator does have the chops to pull it off. I might not like the over-reliance on guitar noodling between the chorus and verses, but it otherwise is a fun listen.
What a great rock album this is! My knowledge of ZZ Top is very little but this album was awesome to listen to!
Take out the four singles, play the other tracks. How many stars? 3. 3.5 if they did half-stars. So add four singles back in, and difficult to argue with at least 4 stars. Why not five? What is done is done brilliantly, but it is only the one thing that is done.
So many hits and great rhythms.
Gibbons and Hill have some of the best playing and tone in blues-based rock music. This album builds nicely from their prior records while incorporating synths and more electronic sounds for the 80s. Generally fun, simple lyrical themes. Good times all around.
Great bluesy, metal rock album by one of the most recognizable bands of the 1980s. Four singles were released from this one album, the most successful being "Legs." Billy Gibbon's guitar style is fun to listen to, while his addition of synth and drum machines make these songs rock even more. This was definitely a memorable album and was an obvious inclusion on the list.
Always down for some rockin' blues. I don't think I've ever heard this album from start to finish, though I know most people should be familiar with at least 3 or 4 of these tracks. Definitely my first exposure to their music back in the day.
This is just a fun album to listen to. It does a great job of taking ZZ Top's southern bluesy guitars and adding just enough new wave to really make some fun jams with some wide appeal.
Excelente rock clásico de los 70-80 con guitarras rítmicas y con bastante pegada. Míticos y con canciones pegadizas.
Lotta classics I wasn't expecting
All I understood ZZTop to be was this incredibly 80s, incredibly American sound. So I look forward to hearing Le Grange etc for the totally different sound. Never a huge fan of the singles, though they're obviously big old pop songs and you can't fault the craft. Tbh I think only Gimme all your Lovin had a serious impact in the UK. For me anyway. Great for any time I'm feeling in the mood for big daft rock such as this - not in anyway to denigrate it, those times and places do happen.
ZZ Top is a weird band to me. They’re very distinct mostly because of the amazing guitar work but also a lot of the less popular songs sound like a standard 80s rock band like Def Leppard or something. The popular songs like sharp dressed man on this are very distinct from the rest of the album. Still good either way though
Fantastic first half but it takes a dive in qualify after Legs. Gibbons guitar playing is something else. And though not brilliant, a fun album overall.
good album, missing some tush tho
The only band that successfully married boogie with the '80s. The album is way stronger than I thought it would be.
4.25
Highlights: Got Me Under Pressure Sharp Dressed Man I Need You Tonight If I Could Only Flag Her Down Artwork: 5 / 10 Rating: 7,5 / 10
Most tracks have a really nice groove going. Enjoyed this one.
Definitely not as goofy as expected. Quite enjoyed this!
