can i buy a hook please
Favorite track(s): 2 + 2 = 5, Where I End and You Begin, There There, Myxomatosis
This is Radiohead. Not quite as compelling as OK Computer.
Prefer other albums
It was a little too depressing for me
Heavy slog
Not my favourite Radiohead album, solid but neither as urgent or important as the earlier albums, or in rainbows that soon followed after. Great band though, essential part of anyone's musical journey.
This is #day549 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and… here's to my fourth Radiohead record (there's still two more to go), the one that, as memory serves, eventually got dropped from later editions of this book (along with Amnesiac, right?). No surprises, as Hail To the Thief is kind of a mixed bag, and even the band members themselves admitted it. That said, it has "Where I End And You Begin," one of my favorite Radiohead songs. I'm going with a 3 out of 5 this time. Looking forward to #day550.
a good listen but not my preferred tempo.
Niet radio heads beste album maar zeker een goeie. Is me net te electronisch sommige nummers
Det er omtrent en halv god plate her. Såvidt
zine been eating to get into radiohead since this summer when I discovered creep (lol i'm late ik)
Thought that this Radiohead album might be different than the previous one in the list (OK Computer), but it felt like more of the same.
One of my less favored Radiohead albums. Caught somewhere between prescient and precious. Probably about four tracks too long tbh, Yorke's whole political thing wears on me here because, well, he won't stop bragging about playing in Tel Aviv. Don't need some brit telling me how much america's shit stinks if they're gonna do that, mind your own rancid shithouse country. Favorite Tracks: 2+2+5, There There, A Punchup at a Wedding, Wolf at the Door
I’d always wanted to listen to more of Radiohead, and today was my chance. Many people around me had talked about them being a good band, and someone they’d always enjoy. Unfortunately, I can’t share the same opinion. They weren’t bad, but just not something that I’d call good, either. Bummer.
Interesting album. Certainly not my favorite Radiohead album I’ve listened to, but I could tell that the pieces were there. It’s just that none of the tracks come together the way that Paranoid Android does, for example. High three. Favorite Track: Go To Sleep
E jo bra liksom, men radiohead bli for depressing as
All of the whining but none of the hits. Not my favourite Radiohead album but I’ll give it a couple more listens to see if it does any more for me
Me encanta Radiohead pero este disco honestamente meh
I don’t mind Radiohead but this is not one of their better albums
It's fine. Maybe your for their 5th best album.
Suitably weird Radiohead
I can see why people like it, but it’s just not for me.
6/10
Once you get past the unmistakable fact that the lyrics on this record are complete fucking nonsense- gibberish really, and that it is far too long, you have to find the nuggets amongst the rubbish. The marketing of this record, the critical fawning, and Radioheads reputation are more or less responsible for this mediocre record being included in this list. Coincidentally, Radiohead released live versions of these recordings and immediately 2 things are obvious- the live versions are lively and you can’t help but notice how sterile and lifeless the recordings made in the studio are in comparison; and the live recordings demonstrate that several of the tracks even after repeated playing throughout a tour over many years are met with a so what, meh response from the crowd. The experimental aspect of this record is actually pretty conventional an effort to blend rock and electronic music together which at this point was really trying to merge their career into a single album, something they would be more successful at realizing on their next record, In Rainbows. So, here are the only songs that actually make the cut - they are good songs, demonstrating excellent musicianship, and they play well live. That’s it. Pretty simple really and I think Radiohead knows that. The live recordings are 47 minutes. The studio version is 56. Here are the songs I enjoyed and would also enjoy seeing live: 2 + 2 =5, We Suck Young Blood, There There, Myxomatosis, Scatterbrained and A Wolf at the Door. That’s it. Should have been an EP. 3/5
Some great songs and some duds for me.
i feel like this would play in a spaceship in a 1990s movie kinda like
One of the greatest bands of all time, rock at its finest
It's not their best is it? They have their trademark (excellent) production, but it's kind of unremarkable as an album outside of some standout tracks and individual moments that pop. There's also a sprinkling of their trademark pretentious-wanky streak in here in places. I guess overall I'd go with 'generally solid and pretty listenable'. Maybe I'm naturally comparing it to their better albums and being overly harsh, who knows? It does have my favourite track of theirs though, in There There. I used to actively dislike this track when I only knew it from the music video, but I came round to loving it. It's so good when it kicks off. 3.5 rounded down.
Pretty weird and experimental but I’m still intrigued to listen to all their albums
It had its moments, but it just didn't go anywhere.
Way better than In Rainbows. But I am coming to the conclusion I am quite simply not a Radiohead fan.
Meh to good. 3.5
Seems a bit overly long (too much filler?). Still OK though with some belters on there.
not necessarily my favourite Radiohead album, but I still liked it
I've never really been a huge Radiohead fan and this album didn't change my mind. It wasn't bad, just didn't move me at all.
I've more or less reverse engineered Radiohead by first getting into Thom Yorkes other project, The Smile. The Smile I enjoy allt, each and every record of them. I find them having great variety on style, interesting music compositions, and skillful playing. From The Smile I've gradually taking steps into Radiohead, still on the path of learning. The challenge with Radiohead have often been that I've noticed myself drifting away from the listening experience. Perhaps having to do with how the songs and album in many occasion sound a little the same. Perhaps it's Yorkes vocal style that sometimes gets abit dominating over the music. Still, once one chooses to look beyond only the vocals, thats when the music starts to open up. Exactly how clearly, like with The Smiles music, I've only partly been able to figure out. Now three stars, but perhaps in a year or so this would likely grow into four or even five.
Not sure I get why this album is here. The Bends, sure, but this one just feels like a decent record, nothing really outstanding to me.
Low 3 - 3.1
Probably the worst radiohead I've listened to.
This isn't even close to being Radiohead's best album. It's fine, sure, but I feel like some of their earlier stuff hit a lot harder. I was honestly disappointed by the album as I tend to like Radiohead. Because of that, bumping it down to a 3.
Pretty good!
Raadiohead are amazing. This is not their finest work though. Some great moments, but for me most miss the mark.
Hail to the Thief is dark and deeply unsettled, with a creeping dread that rarely lets up. It's Radiohead summoning the energy of The Wall, but stripped down to the despair—no catharsis, no acceptance, just a steady pulse of anger and paranoia. The album lurches between abrasive rock and off-kilter electronics in a way that feels intentionally destabilizing, like it’s mirroring a world you can’t quite trust. It’s not an easy listen, but the craft is undeniable—and for my taste, it lands more than Kid A. Even the album cover is like a word cloud spelling out the overwhelm of the world.
Want to relisten and see if this should be rated higher Second album of the day, listening to this 1/16/26, like a week late. T1 I like this. I always liked the band Radiohead without ever listening to them much, j knew they did some alt stuff that was kind of proggy but mainly alt and most notably I always thought they were creative and had some originality. This shits weird I’m liking it. T2 this sounds like that one XXX song at 2:00ish, kinda the whole ‘?’ Album I think it was, but mainly one song I can’t think of, may update this when I hear it next time. T3 that maj7 opening chord keeps making me think it’s ’still crazy…’ -Paul Simon. Very pretty T5 CSNY joint right here and I love it. Paused and relistened to T3 simply lovely. Really wanna do heroine Registering from there^ T7 I NEED HEROINE. This shits amazing
Favourite song- backdrifts Enjoyed this but didn’t have any notable tracks that I really enjoyed
Although this album might reflect an inflection point for Radiohead, this isn't one of the greatest albums of all time - not sure why it's on the list. There aren't any notable songs on the album. Pitchfork: 8.6 Rolling Stone: n/a
Radiohead had failed us fr i used to love this band
Litt som naturvin. Det her får noen andre stå for..
It was ok. A wolf at the door is an excellent closing song though.
Føles utilgjengelig og ganske kaldt. Nok gode sanger til å fortjene en treer.
amo radiohead mas esse eh mid
Bit too stark in places
I have tried quite a few times to listen to and appreciate this album. I thought maybe this time would be the charm, but sadly not. I love all Radiohead's albums up to OK Computer but have always been ambivalent about their later work. I respect their decision to be more experimental and leftfield and, mainly, less commercial. But I have never really enjoyed any of the music. This is so dour and dreary that it eventually started irritating me.
It's not a bad album, it's just not good. I was bored. And the falsetto in every bloody song is just annoying. The electronica touches were nice, but it was like... are they a rock band or an electronica band? Make a decision, embrace one or the other, don't try to do both. My Rating: 3/5
song by song: — 2+2=5 - 3/5, love the 1984 reference but other then that… meh sit down. stand up - 3.5/5, better better Sail to the moon - 3.5/5, “i sucked the moon” SOKKA Backdrifts - 2.5/5, way too long outro Go to sleep - 2/5, he just sounds annoying Where I end and you begin - 2/5, keep sounding annoying We suck oung blood - 3/5, mcr said hello The Gloaming - 1.5/5, hmm There, there - 3/5, whaitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaain I Will - 4/5, this could be such a good edit song A punch up at a wedding - 3/5, I zoned out Myxomatosis - 1/5, 1 second in and I can’t with that synth. no. Scatterbrain - 3/5, I get weak when he drags the words out A wolf at the door - 4.5/5, UUUGHHHH overall score - 2.8 / 5
why are these albums by men
There seems to be traditional rock music Radiohead (The Bends) and more experimental, abstract concept music Radiohead. I apparently don’t love the latter, though i can obviously see they are talented musicians doing their thing. Most of the songs don’t seem to go anywhere, like sort of building up to something that never happens. I enjoyed some parts but most of the album passed me by without making an impression. Meh, sorry.
I really wanted to like this more. In usual Radiohead fashion, the production is lush and begging for multiple revisits to truly dig into it, but simultaneously there really wasn't anything blowing me away or having me itching to listen again. Eh. To their credit I do greatly appreciate how much each of their releases reinvents their sound in an unique way. For now I'm glad to know Hail To the Thief exists, and I'll keep it in mind next time I'm in the mood for this specific sound. Standouts: Where I End and You Begin • There, There • A Punch Up at a Wedding • A Wolf At the Door
o album interio eu achei meio monotono, uma vibe legal mas as vezes era tanto do mesmo que eu dava uma brisada
its okay, had some good songs, but nothing memorable. i wouldnt listen to the whole thing again, just a few songs
I wasn't listening to it whilst feeling like an absolute loser and a depressed person, so didn't hit hard. Relisten later, when feeling like piece of shot.
Radiohead has an interesting way of sounding different but the same. It was good. But not worth a relisten, minus a few songs.
Not my favorite, but that okay! It's not an album I'd casually put on, but it definitely has some qualities I enjoy and expect from radiohead.
Not terrible but nothing really stuck out to me.
7/10
I don't know that every radio head album has to be on this list. This was a bit of a drag to get through. Very vibey and I guess I just wasn't feeling the vibe.
More than a bit whiny and drones at times. I get it that it is their “sound” but it gets old. Some good tracks though.
Radiohead album number six. Front half of the album was alright, back half not as much.
Playlisted a few of the songs but overall the album wasn't exactly memorable. Ngl I didn't even notice it ended and ytb music started queuing other songs.
3.5, not their best
I think they’re playing it safe album? drivel at some points. some stuff I wasn’t crazy about, clearly Yorke wasn’t either by the tedium in his voice at times. was relatively just OK compared to their other stuff hence the 3 myxomatosis <3_<3
This one’s a bit boring to me #sorrynotsorry but it’s got its moments
theres 5 other radiohead albums on here why would we need what is like very much accepted as their third worst album.
i was not familiar with your game radiohead 🥇backdrifts 🥈scatterbrain 🥉a punchup at a wedding

How the fuck was Katy Perry making out to Kid A (she confirmed that)? Even this would've been a better pick for that particular activity. First time I'd actually consider myself a fan of whoever I get on this list, but it's nowhere near the best album of theirs. It's alright, but I never thought it would be deserving of top 3, and clearly not deserving of this list at all. It kinda blends together at some point; I don't feel like there is anything standing out. Well, "2+2=5" is good, but "Myxomatosis" is my favourite one. I haven't seen anyone else mention it, that's why I felt the need to do so. "A Wolf At the Door" is also up there, but the rest kind of drags on. I don't hate it, but I wouldn't really seek out anything else on this album.
Lots of good sounds!
Not their worst, not their best. Some of their records sound like they just want to be different and don't care what it sounds like. This sounds more natural. I didn't hate it, but it's not really for me. Favorite song: myxomatosis
Skapligt även om det inte är helt min grej
This is what Radiohead sounds like when you try to explain them to people who don't listen to Radiohead.
Decent album. Wasn’t really in the mood for it Saturday morning.
Meh
Album ok, esperava una altra cosa de radiohead. M'ha semblat avorrit.
Not my favourite from them but it was a good listen!
Already listened to it, has some pretty cool sounding songs but fails to impress me as much as their other albums. Doesn't mean it's bad though. 7.5/10
Got kinda boring after a while. I think all of these songs are fine to good in isolation but they're mostly slow and sad
Yikes! Another toe tapping uplifting album from a toe tapping uplifting band. I get it, but then I don’t.
It's great. I always liked "A Punch Up at a Wedding." I still feel overall how I always feel with Radiohead in that I'm just not really into it. It gives me a complex, like me not liking Radiohead is itself a complex I have. I don't know what's wrong with me but I feel like a dick about it. I want to like Radiohead like everyone and their respective mothers loves Radiohead, but I just don't feel it. But it's great. Like, I know it's great.
It’s a pretty good album, but I feel like Radiohead has stronger ones than this one. I really really wanted to like this one more, but came out feeling… just ok about it. That being said there were quite a few songs I enjoyed, and at the very least moments within songs that gave me a “Ooh! I like this!” reaction. There were also moments where I felt the album as a whole was dragging a little bit. Like I didn’t really enjoy the album as an album- I noted more songs I liked than usual, but the album didn’t seem to flow very well to me. Not my favorite from Radiohead, but I definitely didn’t hate it. A lot of great individual songs without a lot of cohesion.
Probably my least favorite album of theirs, although with my favorite song "There, There"
I don't think I get Radiohead
Tirando o, ainda excesso de partes eletrônicas (ruídos experimentais), é um bom disco. Destaque para as melodias de guitarra.
Good but overrated.
Overly long. Some great songs, in particular There There. Not in my top 3-4 Radiohead albums. Might be better than Amnesiac.
Decent album, going into this list I had a notion that I didn’t like Radiohead without ever having listened to them, but this is now my third Radiohead album on this list and they’re definitely growing on me Standout Songs: Backdrifts Go To Sleep Where I End and You Begin There, There Myxomatosis Scatterbrain
messy, claustrophobic, unsure of itself - the best parts are the experimental parts, the noisy, uncertain sections
I like the tracks individually, but as a concept album, it feels cluttered. Also, I gave In Rainbows 4 stars, and Hail to the Thief isn’t a better album than In Rainbows, so I’m giving it 3 stars.
When this album came out I was over Radiohead. I had seen them in concert and it seemed like a had my fill. The lead single "There There" was nice, but not excellent. So I skipped it. So unlike their previous five albums, I am not very familiar with this one. Listening today when my appreciation for Radiohead is what it is, I am not impressed with this album. It just kind of drags on. I think I was okay to bail when I did.
A moody entry into Radiohead discog, good but nothing special compared to their other works
Pretty solid
a unique variety of songs that still felt cohesive. sail to the moon was my fave
Would give it 2.5. There is something about the vocals that bugs me and I dont know why
I think they have better albums, this was ok.
Not my fav from Radiohead but still solid
After the 3 album run The Bends, Ok Computer, and Kid A / Amnesiac, this was a let down. With this Re listen, I do appreciate the artistry of composition.
It was actually kind of nice to be on the plane, in and out of sleep with this playing. I like this way more than the other Radiohead album we had, particularly the song A Punch Up at a Wedding which has some really nice piano and a very fun bass line. I actually think I will listen to that song kind of… a lot? Oh no. I’ve been got. 📻🧑🦲
Not many memorable tracks
Whiny vocals, zero standout tracks, gritty electronic drums running the whole time. Of the sixty or so Radiohead albums on this list (I can only assume), this is the first one you line up for me? I've heard worse, but man.
3.5
I almost really liked it
For any other band it would be their best album ever but it just isn’t as good as other radiohead albums. Which is no slight given they have two contenders for top ten of all time. Far too long and ponderous but at the same time I could see myself listening again and again and finding something in the songs I now find boring. This and Pablo honey are the only two I’ve never bothered with really. Myxomatosis and there there would be on the greatest hits.
You have not been paying attention. This is another well crafted, mellow lullaby from Radiohead. A lot going on in the background. I still find Thom’s lead singing a bit whiny and this album runs long, I Will is a sleepy skipper. A Punch Up at a Wedding wins it followed by A Wolf At the Door. All in all not as strong as their previous efforts. (3.45*s) What’s with the flan in the face?
Like The Bends, this is another not super strong album by Radiohead in my opinion but still a good one. The band takes a heavier political angle on the record and the title rings true. It has a few top hits ("There, There," "2+2=5," "Sit Down") with ok support tracks. The finish is pretty good with typical eerie Yorke over beats. I still like the album but they are on a bit of a decline at this point...2.85 stars.
Another decent entry from Radiohead. It's got a lot of what I've come to expect from Thom Yorke and company. Some very cerebral dark electronic sounds and a couple songs I quite enjoyed. This album didn't stand out in the way the OK Computer did but still has enough of the Radiohead flair to make it worth a listen. Hail To The Thief comes in middle of the pack for Radiohead discography which remains pretty reliable. Not the top of my list but they are a good band. I like them and can see why others love them. 3.21 stars
En comparacion co el otro que me esuche, me ha dejado bastante mas indiferente, anque si me han gustado varias canciones, no el sonido general del disco
Oh dear. Lead singer on one track gives me Bono vibe, then he is just screechy/squeaky on others. And WTF was up with the noise track titled The Gloaming? And then We Suck Young Blood...because it is almost Halloween and tis the season? And then the record redeems itself just a little bit with There, There. Listened before? N Saved tracks? N Favorite track(s)? There. There. ⭐⭐⭐ Didn't hate it. Didn't love it. Saved no tracks
Eh so neutral
‘Hail To The Thief’ is not as good as Pitchfork or Rolling Stone will tell you it is. Certainly, it’s my least favourite Radiohead album. ‘We Suck Young Blood’ is a particularly bad song, and one of the worst things you’ll ever here. But then they pull ‘A Punch Up At A Wedding’ out of their arse and I can almost forgive them for the rest of what is an extremely uneven album.
A couple great songs, some good musical elements, a great political message, a very whiny voice
This is the second straight Radiohead record I’ve been served (I got OK Computer yesterday). The hit rate on this one is just not as high. There are some truly great songs on here, but there are also several that I was not fond of. Best Track: Sail To The Moon
A good listen. Not their strongest album. 3/5
Ugh Radiohead. This one was fine.
I'm not really a Radiohead guy but I liked this album alright. The vibes of the album were enjoyable. I decided to challenge myself this time by trying to convey my thoughts on this album using words from the album art. Below is my attempt to articulate those feelings: Fine
okay look, i'm not a bush apologist, all i'm saying is that this is a lot of edginess and anger towards a conservative president who did not wreak nearly as much havoc on the country or the globe as our current, and this band's most recent album, a product of similarly vitriolic times, sucks in comparison. well maybe it just sucks in general. but this album is not that album. this one is mostly good, but sometimes hard to listen to bc i'm like you people need to chill. coming to LA for your first american recording does not make you equal on the playing field of american civic engagement as the people who've been fighting the good fight for decades. but at least you gave us "sail to the moon" which is a beautiful track. between this and the number of good mario games that released during the bush presidency, i think the universe is trying to tell us something about this retired president-turned-grandpa artist who is just dootin' along in texas right now. sure, sure, the Liberal Artists hated him, but think about it. we got good mario. we got good pokemon. we got this album. actually we also got In Rainbows during the bush era, so radiohead might just need another bush to start making good music again. #ImWithBush
I wish this was the album that was shown to me when I was first shown Radiohead. I like OK Computer and I respect it for being what it is and all that. I gave that one a 3. This album is definitely more my speed over OK Computer. It's absolutely above Kid A, which I know is on this list somewhere but we haven't gotten it yet. A Punch Up at a Wedding is a highlight for me. It's funky and groovy and I like it a lot. I'd probably give this one a higher score if I liked Thom Yorke more.
I didn’t recognize any of these, but it still has the inventive and unique Radiohead characteristics, a good listen. Enjoyed the second half of the album more. Was caught off guard by Thom Yorke not singing his distinct high-pitched range on A Wolf At The Door!
Ok - less impactful than earlier albums - felt a bit more hum drum
My least favourite of the albums we listened to so far, mostly because I couldn’t hear the lyrics without reading them first. The percussion and guitar on scatterbrain was great! I’ll have to listen later down the road when I have more time.
I've never liked Radiohead much… The understated, whispery, static-y, and blase qualities that a lot of their music has has never really done anything for me. I did appreciate the more acoustic/less distorted sound of this album, but I wasn't blown away by anything, although I did like "Where I End and You Begin," "A Wolf at the Door, and especially "Myxomatosis." Overall, I think this was a well-made album and Radiohead is a great band, but I still haven't connected with anything they've made.
Great album if you're a teenage ghost haunting a suicide watch ward at a drug treatment center. Songwriting is interesting, I enjoyed some of the more electronic tracks, undoubtedly a thought-out and well constructed album, but it's just such a fucking bummer. I think the fact that I don't like it says good things about the state of my mental health. 2.5 rounded up because I prob would've liked it alot more in the 2000s.
I'm part of the faction that slights this one as Radiohead’s hangover record. Considering what Kid A and Amnesiac were, it’s understandable. Brilliant in fragments, yet blurred as a whole. It’s more collage than cohesion, and to me, that doesn’t hold a candle to the immersive worlds they’re so skilled at building.
3 estrelas
Trodding, quiet and Erie. I enjoyed my time with it but also it didn’t keep me enthralled the entire time. I enjoy radioheads ability to keep you on the edge of your seat but also comfortably in the recliner of life. A few hits that I saved and will maybe one day give another listen ti
As Radiohead albums go, this was a better one for me. But Thom Yorke's whiney voice just isn't for me.
Lots of political and social commentary, musically ok. Not very high on my list of favorite Radiohead albums
Not my fav RH album but pretty darn solid for what it is
3.5 stars
Needs more listens so….
Difficult one this. Possibly my least favourite album by one of the bands I most enjoy and admire. But it took me 20 years to realise how good Kid A is (despite loving Amnesiac from the get go) so wouldn't rule out an upward revision when I've had more time.
Didn't really connect with this one
Bom album
I enjoy Radiohead, but I don't think this is one of their best albums. Not as much variety, but still a lot of interesting melodies and understated vocals
é um album de musica
ugHHHH
Not my favourite
I really feel like I should like this but it doesn’t grab me
Not my favorite Radiohead album.
I dont know why but Radiohead to me, is always a chore to listen to, and most of my favourite bands are heavy influenced by them. So,ok, Hail to the Thief has some good tracks, like the single "There, There" or the opening "2+2=5", but the album drags, and mostly, in my opinion, it is not the instrumental that is quite clever (althoughthe electronica did not do any favours at times), but, man, Thom Yorke voice and wven some of the powtry gets tiring. It is a 3.5 for me but rounding to 3 because lots of people will judge by the name and not the content
De olika albumen är så himla annorlunda från varandra. Ibland känner jag inte igen att det är Radiohead. Hail to the Thief är så himla 2003!
I got into Radiohead just before this album came out, so I have fond memories of the buildup and release. At the time, it felt like a return to the guitar-driven sound the band had previously made, but looking back now, it seems more like a combination of all their styles up to that point. This also makes it longer than most Radiohead albums, and at times, a bit bloated and unfocused. It still includes some of their best songs like There There, but it could definitely have done with some trimming. Back then, I worried the band’s best days were behind them, but luckily In Rainbows arrived a few years later and is rightly considered another classic. As for HTTT, it’s definitely one of their albums I’ve returned to less often.
Poetic and melodic
Will listen more
This is actually one of my least favourite Radiohead albums. It's not bad, but I just don't connect to it as well as most of their other ones. There are some really fantastic tracks, but there's also a lot of filler or songs that I find boring.
Filled with interesting driving organic percussion beats and typical newer Radiohead vocalizations, this album is interesting at times, but exciting very seldom. It's not their best effort, not an album to listen to over and over. I love Radiohead but this one I only pulled a few track and pitched the rest.
I liked the atmosphere, was harder for me to pay attention to the lyrics and did go a bit long for me
It was fine
Not a huge fan of Radiohead, and this album sounds just like all of their stuff past The Bends. It has some great parts, but it’s not that engaging. I don’t know how to explain it. I like when they do more generic rock songs (like 2 + 2 = 5 on this album), but the “whininess” of their other songs is a turn off for me. That being said, the relative uniqueness of their music and superb production are enough to make it somewhat enjoyable. 7/10
front and back end have some good highlights. Middle is where it falters for me with songs like "go to sleep" and "the gloaming" really harsh my vibe. The pretty harsh mixing is especially distracting in these songs but even in songs i like the harsh mixing i think takes away from it. I also find the lyrics overall are quite abstract (although some songs like "scatter brain" seem more direct). I think when i like the music the lyrics can be more intriguing but when I don't it just exasperates me lol. Like "we suck blood", the clapping is so annoying lol and i think it just makes all the rhetorical questions that don't mean anything just annoying as well. I think the allusions to something political without really being about anything specific just does not really matter to me unless the music is good lol. I think the stretch from "There, There" to "A wolf at the door" Is pretty solid. and of course, "2+2=5" Is a classic. Although i do really like some of the songs and the production throughout is solid and interesting, the harsh mixing especially in some tracks, some odd production choices with weird high pitch noises that don't seem to do anything, and the abstract lyrics does hamper my experience. 3 out of 5 stars
Day 51, 9th record I own. 3rd in a row! I was big into this band in high school. Looking forward to spinning this for the first time in ages. "There There" is still an absolute banger and I don't even need to rewatch the music video to remember that it's one of Michel Gondry's best. Nothing was bad but this very much feels like it can stay in my youth. Ever the optimist, I'm looking forward to listening to the recent Live release of 12 of these tracks. My favorite albums of '03 aren't represented on the list: Ween's Quebec, Sun Oil Moon's Ghosts of the Great Highway, Magnolia Electric Co., Jay-Z's Black Album. On the list, however, is Elephant by the White Stripes and that may rate higher than I go for this particular slight misstep from Radiohead. This is a solid 3.5 but since Radiohead has so much better music I'll have to give it a 3. Live release from just over a month ago: "2+2=5" is better, "Sit Down, Stand Up" is much better, as are "Go to Sleep" and "We Suck Young Blood"; all around this release is preferable. It's incredible that such an excellent studio band can turn the heat up even more live. It's too bad I've only seen them live once, in 2008 for the In Rainbows tour. They played "There There", "The Gloaming", and "Where I End and You Begin". I might go deep enough down this rabbit hole to find audience tapes and compare them to both the studio and live takes they included on their compilation but those 3 tracks aren't as improved or even altered really to warrant a third distinction.
I didn’t really know what to expect from this. It’s not one of the Radiohead albums I’m familiar with but for the most part I liked it. I mean, it’s pretty typical Radiohead but it sounded fine
Parhaat: Sail To The Moon, A Punch Up at a Wedding, Scatterbrain
Will give this another listen later but some really cool moments on this one and some others that were dragging. Favorite song by far was There , There.
3.5
Pretty good, not my favorite Radiohead album, but okay.
I normally really love Radiohead, but I understand why people find their music boring after listening to this album.
To complain about a Radiohead album is hard, but for some reason this one has never done it for me.
not their best, still pretty great. Could by trimmed to 11 tracks quiet easily
Nothings beat “In Rainbows” yet. The album cover is chock full of potential band names though
Favorites: Sail To The Moon Backdrifts Go To Sleep We Suck Young Blood The Gloaming There, There A Punch Up at a Wedding Myxomatosis Scatterbrain A Wolf At the Door Dark and somber. This album feels like being in a trance, then a fugue state, and then - if you're lucky - spurred into action. If not, you will sink deeper and deeper down into yourself.
fine i guess
2+2 does not equal 5, and it got worse from there. In seriousness, I enjoyed lots of this. But not enough to buy a ticket to the show.
Not the best Radiohead album, however reasonably solid throughout. A few highlights in the album.
Musically, Radiohead are very good. This album was decent, just didn't quite hit as much as Okay Computer which I got last week.
Always felt this was the weaker of Radiohead's albums, nothing particularly stand out I feel just going through the motions 3.5*
I'm not a huge fan of Radiohead, but I didn't mind this album so much
Good album but not my favorite by Radiohead. It seemed like a buildup without a payoff. It is an album that I would listen to alone.
Pretty good, pretty good Fav song: A Wolf At the Door
No standouts on this album for me but it good.
It's basically impossible to comment on Radiohead without being accused of either over- or under-stating their quality or importance. It's kind of fair: they've been darlings of music critics for like thirty years, so people have opinions. They're an experimental rock band, too; takes veer wildly between "they're no Captain Beefheart" and "shut up and just play The Bends". They've got some tropes of their own: there are usually some repetitive electronic elements that underpin the rhythm, the guitars don't just strum, Thom York wails plaintively in his falsetto register, songs suddenly stop or start or just change character altogether. The thing is, those are all actually very hard to do -- especially in a way that's as listenable as Radiohead remains. It's a good album. There are some really catchy beats (Phil Selway is an underrated drummer), some nice tunes (I really enjoyed 'Go To Sleep') but also some real drags: 'We Suck Young Blood' takes three whole minutes to pick up from its hand-clapping, monotonous dirge and then goes immediately back into it. The melancholy is highly affective (and effective!), to be sure, but it's a profoundly unpleasant listen. Like listening to a eulogy at half-speed. This is exactly the kind of thing that people hate about Radiohead. 'There, There' is a great example of the less-weird stuff that Radiohead can do. The open, acoustic sound of the drumming (I think the first cymbal hit is at 1:47) propels this one while Colin Greenwood's bass winds around it melodically but subtly, producing a deep groove. Ed O'Brien and the More Famous Greenwood's guitars strum along sparsely with a sound that is both overdriven and somehow shimmering. It all builds, piece by piece, into a busy final third but at that point, the listener can still hear the central features that the song started from; they've followed the whole plot. Yorke's voice soars over the whole thing, extending for bars with quavering vibrato, serving almost as a background instrument. And then for the last verse, it all falls back and the song feels complete. Radiohead's ability to build something and pull the listener along so that the sound bath isn't overwhelming exists -- sometimes they just don't seem to bother. 'A Punch Up at a Wedding' has a cool-as-hell groove driven by bass, drums and piano. Yorke's contributions are occasionally Way Too Many Vocal Layers, but the intensity of the Choir Of Yorkes is used mostly sparingly. It's not a perfect album by any means -- on first listen, much of it is too dense or too melancholic to invite anyone to listen a second time. But Radiohead remain an immensely capable band who are very able to inject electronic strangeness, sonic complexity and emotional depth into rock music that is just that -- perfectly recognizable as rock music. If all your experiments work, you're not actually experimenting. This is a solid 3.5/5 album and its second half makes it well worth a listen. If you're here giving this 5/5 just because it's dense and weird, fuck off. If you're here giving this 1/5 just because you've got beef with Radiohead fans, please equally fuck off. Would be 4/5 but for the interminable dirges on the first half.
First Radiohead album on this list. I liked the first couple songs but I kinda lost interest after a bit. Radiohead's great but they have way stronger stuff than this.
Not my favorite Radiohead project. Still very very good and 2+2=5 allways goes hard
Need to listen again. 3.75
I love Radiohead, so every album is an enjoyable listening experience, but I found myself zoning out more than I usually do with their other projects. Still enjoyed it, but was a bit surprised that it didn’t grip me as much as the others.
I always avoided Radiohead because they were so ubiquitously popular among my generation that I was almost sick of them by association. They are also very much to blame for ushering in an era of dreary alt-rock that took decades to go away. I don't know. There are some decent tracks here. Maybe I'll give it another listen but it's not made me an instant fan. Some of the guitar work is quite interesting. As a band they are just over rated I'm afraid.
The last good Radiohead album.
I don't think I've ever listened to this or knew it existed - not a huge fan of this one (guess I'll just stick with 1995-2000 Radiohead).
Radiohead still doing Radiohead
Some great songs but not as consistent as their other albums.
I want to like Radiohead so bad but it just doesn't resonate with me. I like songs here and there. On this album Go to Sleep was cool.
Okay, not their best
This is the more annoying electronic whiny stuff I have come to associate with Radiohead. There is some neat experimental stuff here (lullabies, shanties, etc.), but it's also depressing and grating at times. Credit I suppose for melding child-like fantasy and the political era, and also seeing the future rise of fascism, if unintentionally. I'll give it a 3, but it's really more of a 2.5
Chill and kind of calming. Nearly put me to sleep, but better than I expected from my preconceived notions of Radiohead.
I really want to like this but it just feels like emo without the irony or self awareness.
boring
no me enloqueció, es un album que siento que me va a cautivar mientras mas lo escuche. pero es un solido 3, lo volveria a escuchar para entenderlo mejor
Damn these guys need stronger antidepressants
Tror ikkje da e mitt nye favorittalbum av dei, etter første gjennomlytt
Good album not my favorite from them.
Some moments of weary beauty if not an easy hour
It’s alright. Radiohead full projects just seem to drone on at times. Their big songs on his are great. But I just get bored of the full album.
Pretty good.
Will need to re-listen, but on first listen not many stuck out to me as much as other Radiohead songs / albums I've listened to.
If you haven't heard any other Radiohead record, this one could be seen as either epic, mesmerizing, and unique, or as pretentious, empty, and boring. Being a fan of Kid A and OK Computer back in the day, and not thinking about Radiohead again until In Rainbows, I never gave this one a try when it came out. Listening to it for the first time, it feels like a very Radiohead-esque Radiohead album, giving you everything you love about Radiohead even if not close to as good as their best albums.
There are far better Radiohead albums than this. Musically, it is intricate and sophisticated, but at times it is too self indulgent for its own good. “Sit Down. Stand Up”, “Myxomatosis” and “There There” are the highlights. “We Suck Young Blood” and “I Will” are the lowest points. A strange analogy: during the scene in Parks & Recreation where Ben plays Cones Of Dunshire with the internet people, he compliments their advanced moves and clever strategy, but just before he delivers the final blow in his victory, one line he speaks is very profound: “You forgot the essence of the game. It’s about the cones.” I feel this way about “Hail To The Thief”. Sure, it’s sophisticated and technically proficient, but they forgot one essence of music: to entertain. Tom Yorke’s vocals are grating at times; he sounds like a banshee who has just stepped on a Lego brick with his bare foot. It’s difficult to listen to and annoying enough to distract from the excellent backing music. Hail To The Thief is pretty good, but it’s too much. I would rather listen to The Bends, OK Computer or Amnesiac.
Unfamiliar with Radiohead (yes, too old) I was hoping, again, to be pleasantly surprised. Nevertheless, this didn't do it for me. There were ok'ish songs on this album. Punch up at a wedding. There there, Wolf at the Door. I do like the variation of styles and tunes. This gets Hall my 3 star rating.
Needed ~2 1/2 playbacks to rate, and likely another 3 to fully process. I think I'm a basic Radioheadhead (Nude, anyone??)
This was more enjoyable than I thought it would be. But it's sometimes noisy but not in the best kind of way. Would probably relisten
@PUNTUACIÓN DE CADA CANCIÓN: 1. 2 + 2 = 5 — 4.42 2. Sit down. Stand up — 3.5 3. Sail to the moon — 4.4 4. Backdrift — 3.85 5. Go to sleep — 3.95 6. Where I end and you begin — 4.1 7. Scatterbrain — 3.1 8. A wolf at the door — 3.6 9. We suck young blood — 2.75 10. The gloaming — 2.75 11. There there — 2.75 12. I will — 2.75 13. A punching up at a wedding — 3.0 14.
I feel like I always forget about the existence of Hail to the Thief. Like it's a good Radiohead album, just maybe not a great one
This is good but not something I’d seek out and I honestly wished it would finish sooner.
Alright album, not as good as some of their others.
Hybrid of rock and electronic music. It works well. Sonically pleasing. Intelligent without being overbearing. I can see why this did so well.
Ok
Meh.
Sympa mais rien de marquant pour moi
Preferred some of their other albums
Probably my least listened to Radiohead album, and for good reason. Not as attention grabbing as earlier ones, but still some of the same DNA. Might grow on me if I listen to it more.
This is great, but less great than some of their other albums
Not my fave Radiohead album, even though I have a copy, but not a bad collection of tracks. Plenty of mood pieces, guitars and electronica means there is something for everyone. Maybe that is the flaw here, trying to please the whole fanbase.
I get that they're being experimental, and I appreciate that, but they're not much fun. They're not angry, they're just a bit whiny.
There's much better Radiohead out there (OK Computer), still had some enjoyable moments though. Highlights: There, There, A Wolf at the Door
Honestly not massively inspired by this. It's fine but not particularly engaging. Perhaps it was the time I listened to this but there are better Radiohead albums out there for me
I dont like radiohead. It seems like lots of people who do dont really like this album. This might be the only album of there's so far I didnt hate, not that it was good but it was less of a chore. More like background music.
Every song on this album will have you tapping your feet and saying, "I'm enjoying it, but what the hell is this song about?" This album contains so many weird sounds. Definitely an emotion factory. Probably best to listen to it stoned. But these chaps are talented, no doubt, and I'm sure this album was ground breaking. It's just not one that I would reach for that often.
Pretty decent. Not their best work (obviously)
Radiohead's music-as-art-project career continued here with alt-rock more angular than an icosahedron. Will take a couple of listens to get used to the different techniques on display; again don't expect strict adherence to 4-4 time or try and second-guess where a chord progression will head. It's dark, it's moody, it's expressive, and it's rather good. It's no OK Computer, but it's worth a go.
Ok
Apesar de não ser um grande fã da banda, esse disco tem momentos bem interessantes. Fui surpreendido positivamente. QoA Vesper.
I love Radiohead but all i can think of is Fred Armisen's impression of the dude.
not their best…
Dude really said "you need to listen to every radiohead album before u die"
Very good
Good
Three Radiohead albums down, two more to go. :/
This style of music just never appealed to me. Its fine but not great IMO
I need some more time to decide whether or not I like this. There were some great moments, but also some boring ones. I think it’s Thom Yorke’s vocals that I just don’t connect with. He sounds a bit too whiny sometimes—it gets tiring to listen to after a while. Favorites: Myxomatosis Scatterbrain A Wolf At the Door
A needless inclusion here. An undercooked album by Radiohead standards, predictable and overlong. They have done better and I can't think of a compelling reason this should be included here beyond the list editor's bias.
Music is good but Radiohead doesn't really hit for me
I'm sure it's good but a bit whiny and slow for my taste.
Definitely one of there weaker albums. 2.90
3/5
De opener is grandioos, 'Sail to the Moon' is mooi, 'Where I End and You Begin' is mysterieus, en 'There, There' doet alles wat je van de rest van het album verwachtte. 6,5/10 Highlights: 2+2=5 There, There Where I End and You Begin
Ik heb Hail to the Thief er twee gegund. En ook al groeit deze plaat nog niet zo hoog als sommige anderen van RH, het is wel gaaf hoor. Met de there, there en de afsluiter als hoogtepunt. 7/10 Highlights There, there A wolf at the door
Not quite my taste
Score 7/10 Favorite Song: Myxomatosis Hail to the Thief feels like a Radiohead album that’s caught between two worlds. It’s messy, ambitious, and full of moments that feel sharp and vital, but it also drags in places and doesn’t always feel as cohesive as their best work. There’s an urgency to the record, both politically and sonically, but it’s filtered through a haze of glitchy electronics, eerie falsetto, and scattered genre experiments. It tries to blend the cold alienation of Kid A with the guitar-driven angst of The Bends, and while some of that fusion really works, a fair chunk ends up getting lost in the sprawl. Still, when it hits, it really hits. “Myxomatosis” is a highlight — pulsing, aggressive, and unapologetically weird, it’s the kind of track that grips you with its grime and growl. Other songs like “There There” and “2 + 2 = 5” bring weight and drama, reminding you just how good this band is when they lean into tension and build-up. But across its 14 tracks, the album’s length starts to feel like a weakness, not a strength. It’s got flashes of brilliance, but the uneven pacing makes it harder to love front-to-back. A good album with a handful of standout moments, just not quite in the upper tier of their discography.
(Mostly) consistently moody with a fun little surprise of Myxomatosis near the end. Best song: 2 + 2 = 5 Notable(s): Myxomatosis
My brother says it's a 3
Pretty average, not much to say
You have got to be kidding me, two Radiohead albums in a row...
Just imagine all the other albums that could've been on this list instead of Hail to the Thief. This is not, and never will be, an album that requires repeated listening to fully appreciate. It is unfortunate that it tricks some people into believing it is anything more than ok and holds a deeper complexity simply because it is Radiohead
Hated it in my early 20s, hated it less bow. Some tracks are good but some are still too whiny
Honestly not sold on Radiohead. In theory I feel like I would like them a lot, but they were just okay.
I was a huge fan of Radiohead as a young lad but in adulthood I have really struggled to find them interesting. Here is my working theory: they don't go freaky-deaky mode enough. And maybe that's a function of hindsight; I know that Radiohead is ultimately very groundbreaking and that it might sound "normal" now because music has normalized around them, but they still just don't get FREAKY enough with it! Like even on this album I can feel them flirting with some krautrock or jazzy post-rock stuff and I want them to just go for it and take some RISKS and get FUNKY on a white boy but it just all feels so calculated and NORMAL! I want there to be a sense of danger and excitement to the art I love, and that's why I also struggle with bands like Pink Floyd. It just feels so "correct" and like really "successful" at being "good." So like to be clear I enjoyed the album a lot and I enjoyed listening to pretty much every song, yet there are very few I envision myself returning to. It's interesting. Even after listening to this as thoughtfully as possible, I don't feel closer to understanding whether or not I actually LIKE Radiohead at this point in my life. One cool thing about this though is that I don't think I had ever actually listened to Hail to the Thief in its entirety when I was younger so hearing new tracks was neat. Fav song: There, There
#4 Hail To The Thief ~ Radiohead After Radiohead tricked everyone and revealed their true colours as classical music students with Kid A and Amnesiac, Hail To The Thief more or less seemed to be a return of decency: something that sounds like rock. Instead it attempted a highly ambitious blend of their electronic work with their Bends-ian guitar work in a project more daring than OK Computer.... in theory. Instead, like Amnesiac beforehand, something just falls flat with this album. But first, the positives. Sonically this album remains infectiously ear-catching and interesting. The guitarwork is a lot more tighter, a lot less bombastic, allowing for the electronica elements to soak in more easily, to actually have an effect. OK Computer was constantly praised for 'blending rock and electronica,' a pretty rubbish assertation in hindsight when Nine Inch Nails was in vogue a good few years before Radiohead. But Hail To The Thief sounds more worthy of this distinction than OK ever did, if you are following the train of thought of a classical musician and considering 'electronica' as 'Penderecki and Stockhausen'. On that front I can say yeah, the music is quite revolutionary. Yorke's voice, whether one likes it or not, is quite remarkable. It's operatic, not in a heroic sense like Buckley's, but innately filled with unbearable fragility, like the tragic figure betrayed by his own weakness. Frankly, this voice as it flutters through its register with each song, from low baritone to wailing falsetto, it adds another layer of magic to the already solid instrumental work of the rest of the band. And I would certainly rate this album higher if Yorke just said absolutely nothing and vocalised. Because the main problem dragging this album down like a lead weight is the PERSONALITY of this project. I listen to this and ask myself 'doesn't this all sound really rushed'. OK Computer had passion. Kid A had passion. Amnesiac (although not that great) had passion. Did Radiohead think that flashing something political equals passion? There are some true fillers of songs plaguing this album. Sure a lot of people diss on Kid A's lyrics, but Yorke's voice was ornamentation, not the forefront. Here he forces you to listen to every word he says like it's more profound because the subject matter is political, and he will make you sit down and stand up to listen to him say 'the raindrops' 47 times. Sure, such 'surrealist' lyrics can and has been used for political commentary (Court Of The Crimson King), but you need a bit more flesh and depth into the lyrics. You need more than just shades of bleak grey, which what Hail To the Thief really feels like, despite the musical heights it tries to climb. Rock critics would prefer in a long revolving-door list of bands if Wilco, Modest Mouse, Animal Collective, or Black Country, New Road were more popular with the common people. The common people may wish for Muse and Coldplay to return to their earlier formats. They'll have to stick with Radiohead if they want to be a fan of a popular band with 'artistic faith'. Hail To The Thief is a solid-sounding album that borders so dangerously close in being a disingenuous parody, and it's a shame cause there are some really great gems here (There There, Where I End and You Begin, Sail to the Moon, Wolf At The Door). But as a political album, does it really inspire anything? If only they'd just have another flavour that's not 'DOOMSDAY' for their next album... Verdict: A Wolf At The Door and nobody's listening
Finally. I don’t know how often I started this album only to give up on it again. But now I’m done. It is interesting and unique. But the music is often bordering on sonical schizophrenia and that’s not always my cup of tea if you know what I mean. Still I liked some of the songs and could enjoy them.
Not the best post-OK Computer (In Rainbows) offering from Radiohead, also not the worst (King of Limbs). I haven't listened to this album for a long time now, and I think I know why. Very little of it has stuck with me as being "essential Radiohead songs." 2+2=5 might be the closest, but if you asked me to give you a list of 20 Radiohead songs you should know, even that one wouldn't make the list. A decent album that just hasn't aged well.
My least favourite Radiohead album. Complex time signatures don’t really cover the thinning out on top. But then, without this we wouldn’t have had In Rainbows.
I was previously familiar with Radiohead. This is a pretty different album from OK Computer, which I am most familiar with. This album shows a pretty strong electronic influence, and from here, you can see where they would go even further with In Rainbows. I didn't mind the album but didn't immediately love it either. I will listen again to see if it grows on me, but for now I could take it or leave it.
I want to give them another listen in the future to hear the words more, but the music is pretty decent itself. Still trying to get into them
I love radiohead but this is not their best album. A few really good songs with some more meh ones in between. I think its best when listening to radiohead to remember that their songs came from nowhere. So does most every other song but theirs are so layered and different that even if I don't love or like one of theor songs, im usually intrigued at least in the short term about how the song was manufactured.
I just cannot get into Radiohead, no matter what I do. A few good songs but most of it didn't really resonate with me.
first half: mmmm, nice. i'm enjoying this. it's moody but has undeniable grooves and melodies. the lyrics aren't half as smart as i'm always hearing or expected, but still, am i gonna be a radiohead guy? is it happening? "we suck young blood": my wife, who claims to like this album but who i suspect only really listened to "there, there" before seeing them at coachella in high school, walks into the room and says, "what is this. this is terrible." not as big a radiohead guy as she thinks she is, eh? i concur at the time. then i listen to it again and don't hate it. but THEN i read that thom claims it's a "slave ship tune" that satirizes hollywood culture and "is not to be taken seriously." lol okay. i didn't think he could sound like a bigger butthole than he did on the song itself, but he went and outdid himself. now i hate it more than i did the first time. side two is a mixed bag with some good (“there, there”; “myxo”), some inoffensive (“punch up”), and some bad (“i will”, which can go pound salt). maybe i’m like half a radiohead guy now?
first half was a 4, back half was a 2 or a 3 for me. Thumb Yorke doesn't shut up. 3
Thom Yorke is a huge dumbass and it's free Palestine today and forever.
Really enjoyed a few other Radiohead albums on the project already, but this one a bit less. I think on a different day or different time of day, it may have hit differently. Will need to revisit
좋은 것도 몇개있는데 잘 못느낌
Chill & cool
Not consistently beat-ey like the others. 3/5
Lawrence - Hail to the thief is great at the beginning but I lost interest from the middle until a wolf at the door played. Will need to relisten when I’m not traveling. Favorite tracks: Sit down. Stand up Backdrifts Go to sleep a wolf at the door
Good sound, great songs in the first half. Second half kind of peters out, again. What is it with pop records that they NEED to be 50+ minutes when 30 minutes would have been excellent? Plenty of bangers overall, better than I remember. But too long.
I can't say I feel strongly one way or another about Radiohead. The only song I'm familiar with of theirs is Creep, so I would safely call this my first impression of the band. Based on this album, I lean toward the idea that they're a little overrated. The musicianship was undoubtedly great but not as great as I would have expected. The songs got better as time went on, and I did find some of them to be pretty good. I just have a hard time believing this is one of Radiohead's best.
Kind of an in between the album for me.
prve dvije pjesme su mi bile odlične, a kasnije je sve slabije, pogotovo kad asimetrični krene zavijat. načelno je dosta dobro, ali neki momenti i neke cijele pjesme dosta bezveze
A mediocre album by Radiohead. “go to sleep” and “There there” being the only great songs. Although “2+2=5” is catchy
Radiohead is a little hit or miss for me. I find Thom Yorke's vocals too airy-fairy for my liking and on some of their albums, like In Rainbows, the music overrides that for me, but not as much on this one.
A few of Radiohead albums are among my favorites ever. This one isn't one of them. It's rather one of the ones I could never really get into, along with Amnesiac. Some really great songs, but the album as a whole feels kinda sparse and uneven.
Pretty average
It's Radiohead so it's a good album. I like it, but I don't love it.
Not my favorite of Radiohead's albums but okay
Couldn’t stay awake for this one though it does sound intriguing, I’ll keep trying. Maybe put it on a bit earlier in the day!
A great Radiohead album. I enjoyed it a lot but like Kid A and Okay Computer more
Honestamente. Eu não entendo o fascínio que as pessoas tem por esse álbum. Um ótimo álbum pq o Radiohead é uma ótima banda. Mas deveria nem ta nessa lista
A bit Meh
Well... This is my 2nd Radiohead album. It was much better than Amnesiac to start with! This was ok. Not my kind of thing but it wasn't awful. Do I think Radiohead are overrated based off what I've heard? Absolutely 3 ⭐️
3.7
I listened on headphones while I cut the grass. The mower's battery died sooner than usual. Coincidence?
Not my favorite Radiohead joint. It was alright, but not spectacular.
As badly as I want to, I just don’t get Radiohead. High pitched geriatric sounding whining over an electronic drum loop save for a few tracks in which the music seems to get some energy.
Already listened to it before. Not my favorite radiohead album, but I think its their most political and critical album to date. Got some bangers in it tho, like There There which is one of my favorites radiohead songs of all time.
This is the most Radiohead-sounding Radiohead album out there, so I'm surprised it isn't as acclaimed by their fanbase as other records in their discography. For me, it's just okay, a lot of my gripes with Radiohead's music are more apparent here than on many of their other albums, mainly to do with my love-hate relationship with Thom as a crooning vocalist, and the melodramatic and all-over-the-place musical direction their albums tend to go in. This album sort of fuses their more alt-rock side with their '2000s electronic side without really committing to or fleshing out any specific sound. This fusion is most apparent in the explosive opener '2 + 2 = 5', which is easily the best song here, sounds straight out of 'OK Computer'. It also sets the tone nicely for the more politically driven messaging of the rest of the record.
A nice record in case you like the general musical style of the band.
The dated title feels quaint (remember when some light election fraud was the worst we could expect from our leaders?) I know this is supposed to be the band's return to guitars but every track seems to open with a dorky sped up rythym box. It was cool when Suicide did that literally 30 years before but if that's all this so called 'electro wizard' has I'm not buying. 2 + 2 = 5 has quite a complex structure while not really sounding any different from mid 2000s FM radio rock. Reminds me of Simon Reynolds on Photek 'compelling while you listen, but afterwards you can’t remember much about it'. Sit Down. Stand Up eventually builds up to a pretty boring jungle break (seriously rock heads complain about electronic music being repetitive and then they gush over something like this?) Sail to the Moon is what you get if you take the intensity out of Swans. Backdrifts opens with an interesting reversed pad before the Rhythm Ace comes out again. Go to Sleep is cool in a counterfactual, 'what if Pearl Jam didn't suck?' kind of way. The guitar stabs in the second half add some nice contrast. Where I End and You Begin, We Suck Young Blood, There There. I Will, A Punch Up at a Wedding, are pretty typical Thom Yorke wailers. The Gloaming has a compelling bassline for an intro and some actually credible beats. Myxomatosis is almost danceable but still morose. I think the most telling criticism is that I keep thinking 'man this sounds like that really popular band in the 2000s with the keening ballads'. Then I remember that the band I'm thinking of is Radiohead. I can't explain why the fact that Radiohead sounds like Radiohead is a bad thing but it just is.
It seems like I'm supposed to give it a high score because it's Radiohead but this album doesn't deserve more than 3. Not one song stands out, it's a one big mass-sound with lots of electronic 'fart' effects and whining Thom. Still better than some other bands. 2 and 1/2 stars rounded up.
Thought I would really enjoy this one seeing as I love the Bends and OK Computer so much, but I just really didn't like the more electronic experimental style :/ 3 stars Favourites: There, There Where I End And You Begin + a few others I forgot the names of lol
Perfectly easy to listen to, still love Radiohead. That said, it's not my favourite of their albums, there aren't tracks I would go back to but it's still something I would put on.
Schone guet. The Gloaming isch rächt cool. Mi deziit aber ächli iischläfernd
