Mwahhh, feels a bit like Spinal Tap

If I'd been organised I'd probably have put in to photo their Gold Coast show this coming weekend but I was also thinking about the last Violent Soho show (which I'm not gonna get to either - it might have to be Mark of Cain if I get around to it. But wanting to see Kiss was about photographing the spectacular of the show and the LOLs. They're terrible, as evident on this album. I saw them once at Donington in 1988 in their no make up period and they were also terrible. This time of year when it's my busiest period, I always go through a massive Alice Cooper back catalogue phase to help the report writing. (currently up to 1983's DaDa, one of my favourites, from his blackout period that he has no memory of making, weird as fuck, lots of Fairlight strangeness and drum machines going on). This sounds like really bad Alice Cooper. Makes sense as they got Bob Ezrin in to produce and also Dick Wagner to play some guitar. But the songs are just awful, as are the vocals, especially the Gene Simmons shouty songs . The original Alice Cooper band albums from the early 70s are sooooo much better than this. How and why Kiss ever became popular and made a 50 year career of it is one of music's greatest mysteries.

70’er hard rock, pop-metal, lidt for karikeret, teenage-rebel-vibe

When I was fifteen I despised these guys because I wasn't a fan of party-rock and they looked ridiculous. Detroit Rock City is the high point of the album. There is an abundance of low points.

I'm embarrassed to say that this was one of the first albums I owned and since I didn't have too many records in my collection at the time I actually liked it and played this one to death. I guess my musical taste has matured because I now find everything about this record to be cringeworthy, from the horrible cover/costumes, the cliched lyrics and hooks and just gawd-awful singing. The only song that is passable is Detroit Rock City which manages to rescue this album from a goose-egg to a 1.

This rock IS dead

Mega weba

I dont even like it a little.

This is like buying a package of promised tasty cookies but when you bite you get a taste of glum. I don't know what this record might meant at that time but his time it seems to me some dudes decided to make a band and dress like clowns so they could start making fast easy money. It was so uninterested . With poor production, full of lazy riffs and under mediocre lyrics this record i believe belongs nowhere. One star for the outfit though.

This really does nothing for me, and I like my hard-rock. It's stock-standard music with lyrical that are utter piffle and are so below par it's painful. I know KISS from their Alive Albums, and am aware they're a great live band. But musically, lyrically and production wise, this is empty for me.

When this popped up, I realised that I couldn't remember having ever heard a KISS song. It felt like a bit of a gap. Now I've listened to it, well, maybe I had heard some of this before but never bothered to notice. Just boring

Beautiful guitars and voices. Loved it and will definitely revisit

Are you kidding me? How is this an album I "must" listen to before I die? Dreadful. I'm going to listen Yugoslavian jazz-funk instead.

Everything about this album - the strained vocals, limp instrumentals, and blandly repetitive arrangements - sucks, but that was to be expected.

“The song "Great Expectations" uses the first phrase of the main theme from the second movement of Beethoven's Sonata Pathétique.” Fancy.

This album made me feel stressed out. some cool moments though. generally uninteresting musically and especially lyrically.

Absolute garbage. Just such stupid music

I really doubt I needed to listen to this before I died...

Oh dear.

Skipped most of it

Adolescent pop music pretending to be awfully grown up rock n roll.

2 great songs in Beth and Detroit Rock City but the minute intro of Gene reading the news is really not great.
