Reviews (page 13 of 16)
What can I say?. Every song on this album could be a single. It's that strong. Every song is catchy and memorable. But in my mind it doesn't beat any Queen album. Even if it's the best rated album on this list. so I'm giving this 4 stars. It's a really enjoyable album.
Not my first time listening, but of course a great album. Second Hand News- a good bop but not one I turn to frequently Dreams- top tier excellent one of the best songs of all time Never Going Back Again- I don’t think I’ve ever listened to this song independently outside of a full album listen, but it does hit when I hear it Don’t Stop- This song is cringe to me. I think of Glee (derogatory) every time I hear it. Go Your Own Way- Perfect Songbird- Also perfect. One of the most beautiful songs. Also makes me think of Glee (non-derogatory). The Chain- The most perfect of all perfect songs on this album. You Make Loving Fun- Another fun one that I forget about and only listen to in the context of the whole album I Don’t Want to Know- same. Amazing harmonies!! Oh Daddy- I swear I’ve never heard this song before. Christine sounds beautiful but for some reason I am not into it. Golf Dust Woman- Another one that I swear I’ve never heard before but I am into it.
I didn’t realize so many songs I know came from this album
It was funny, listening through I actually knew most of the songs. Just had no idea it was Fleetwood Mac. I for some reason thought Stevie Nick's sang most of the songs haha.
I think that I like Fleetwood Mac as much as anybody, and then I look at the track list for an album & think gosh maybe I don't like Fleetwood Mac very much. I really dislike Don't Stop and Go Your Own Way. This is a 2.5 star album with two 5 star songs. I think Dreams is the highlight. The Chain is incredible but never as incredible as the first time you hear it. I like Dreams more and more all the time.
American cinema music.
Even though "most" (most is a weak word) lyrics are about two lovers breaking up I enjoyed the style of the album overall and its lyrics, pretty emotional in some songs. I think a band like this would be great to experience live.
Don't think I've ever listened to this in one go before, but enjoyed it.
hun beste!
delicioso colega
Great album overall, 2 songs I didnt really like were Never Going Back Again, and Songbird. Top 3 is Dreams, The Chain, and I Dont Want To Know/Dont Stop. Dont Stop is very upbeat considering a couple songs are a little more of a rhythmic vibe in a sense where I would listen in a groovy setting like I Dont Want To Know. Go On Your Way is also a very upbeat chorus heavy song. 8.2/10
classic for a reason
I particularly enjoyed the very punchy drums in this production. I knew a few of the tracks before, but have otherwise not really heard much Fleetwood Mac before though I know the name Standouts Don't Stop The Chain 4/5
What can you say? Absolutely packed with great songs.
Found I'd heard all the album without ever having listened to it in full before. Nice..
As it happens, I've never listened to this album from start to finish, even though I have always loved Dreams. It's pretty good. My other favourite track was The Chain.
I'm of a certain age, even if I never owned the album, I know every song. I guess it's a five just by being ubiquitous. Like the Beatles, Stones, Floyd. I mean, I would be happy if I never heard some of these songs ever again. Although "The Chain" is excellent. Yeah, after almost 50 years, enough is enough. I wonder if the really early Fleetwood Mac stuff is on this list. The Rezillo cover of FM's "Somebody's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight" is great stuff.
Overall, a great album. I've listened to it before and definitely have my favourites. Great sound. Beautiful remaster.
7/10
Canción destacada: The Chain
Foundational album! While I really enjoy a few of the songs, I feel like the cult of the album stems from the lore and drama of the group. It's definitively a good album, but for me, not one of my go to albums.
good one
pretty impressive for an album recorded while half the band was involved in relationship drama. all things considered. 4/5
The album before this is better, but this is still solid. Great tracks, but peters out a bit on the second side
Classic
****A good album, easy listening, versatile tracks
I know. I know. But it’s what I felt.
Magical album and I can see why it stays in people’s hearts after so many years. For me I can pick songs out that I love but it’s not a non stop album. Production is superb on every song with beautiful Melodie’s throughout. Each member plays their part.
Definitively some hits here! That 70's groove.
At first listen, really great, nothing more that I can say
A finely crafted album! Some of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs, but also a few that are just good. Always hard for me to commit to the whole numbers on these ratings. Tbh, I wanted to rate the album with 3.8 stars, considering the entire thing. However since there are some real gems on this one let’s do a full 4 out of 5. To be fair, some of these songs alone would rate above 5, if that makes any sense. Highlights: `Dreams` , `Go Your Own Way` , `The Chain` , `Oh Daddy` , `Gold Dust Woman` Skippable: `Songbird` 1. Second Hand News - 2:56 starting off the record with a really cool vibe, the percussive plucking right in your face is super interesting, contrasting with the hard panned guitars, backing vocals and super wide drums, giving the lead vocals a lot of movement and making the song super fun to listen to. the layering was masterfully done, the production is on point, the lyrics are very good and I think the only thing I don’t like on the entire arrangement is the “bam bamm bammbca baam bammm bam”, but that could be just me. 2. Dreams - 4:17 fat bass tone, swinging keys, dynamic swelling guitars, shiny acoustic guitar, balanced mix, wide backing vocals. delightful and easy to listen. This song makes me think that Dawes actually took a lot of inspiration to their sound from Fleetwood Mac. 3. Never Going Back Again - 2:14 acoustic guitars are a bit too loud to my taste, but I get that this was intentional. the issue for me is that the vocals are frequently overpowered by the guitars (except for when they decrease in dynamic). short song with just a few lines of lyrics, but well delivered nonetheless. I feel like the backing vocal swells could have appeared a bit more often, and after their first I was left longing for more. maybe that’s the idea, I mean, of never going back again 4. Don't Stop - 3:13 Over the years I’ve grown used to complex chord progressions and odd time signatures, a lot of variation and all things prog/jazz/fusion, and because of that i get really bored with repetitiveness or lack of variation. But at the same time there’s a part of me that still enjoys a when a song is so solid that it does exactly what it should, no more, no less. It’s not so frequent that a band manages to do just that, and get away with the beauty of a well made simple thing. This is a great example of that, and after 3 minutes of a galloping groove with steady beat and synced bass line you end up surprised the song ended, never growing tired of it. That being said, the drums sound great, excellent mix, crystal clear vocals with uplifting melodies, really nice sounding piano and guitars (specially the super rad guitar solo, that does just what the song needed). To me, it could be only be improved by enhancing the dynamic contour, leaving a bit more room to grow on that last chorus, right before the tag. 5. Go Your Own Way - 3:43 another great song with great mixing, amazing bass line, well balanced guitar tones (each of them painting just the necessary colors to make the whole picture cohesive and never overwhelming in any way). the organ on the chorus could be slightly louder, just to cut a bit more through the mix, not getting so shadowed by the guitars, apart from that everything is spot on for my taste. I love the drum sound on this. I think the percussion shaker is a bit too loud, and kinda distracting. lead guitars are pure fire on this, i’d love to geek out on what gear was used for these tones. 6. Songbird - 3:20 a lot of albums have this track that serves a similar purpose as a short break in the middle of a concert, like stopping to take a breather in the mid of hike or something like that, taking a slow pace and aiming somewhere different, or at least to provide some contrast through an alternative perspective. while I’m totally fine with this formula, i don’t think it worked for this song, as it is overly sentimental, too sugary and sappy. sure, the piano and mellow vocals sound pretty and all, but make not mistake, this is no Carpenters. 7. The Chain - 4:29 I love this song, I don’t think I have anything bad to say about it. solid arrangement, very immersive and incredibly interesting. It’s so dynamic that it takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, with sublime build-ups that let you float just long enough before grabbing you back by the collar and dragging you through it all once more. You are left anxiously longing for closure but the song delays it until the very end, never actually giving it to you clearly, fading out to uncertainty and leaving you mesmerized instead. the climax is superb and might be just the cherry on top. give me chills every time — one of my favorite tracks by them for sure. 8. You Make Loving Fun - 3:33 groovy, funky, snappy, the kind of song that forces you to move, even if just by nodding your head to the rhythm or tapping your foot. the backing vocal swells finally returned, paired with face-melting guitar leads. the keys and rhythm guitars are super warm, the midrange on the bass guitar is velvety and suits the tonal quality of the track just perfectly. the drums are a bit minimalistic, but they do serve the song just as it requires. finally I can say I am satisfied with the percussion, not being too loud nor too silent. the vocals sound great but I feel like the statement that “you make loving fun” is not reflected by the way the lyrics are sung, at least in my opinion, almost as if there was a bit of hesitation on the tone. the backing vocals for instance sound a lot more amused in comparison. 9. I Don't Want to Know - 3:16 the constant, never changing, incessant snare on 2 and 4 on this one makes it a bit repetitive for me, and what’s weird is that the guitars are super groovy, with syncopated accents and a very interesting stereo image that makes the rhythm almost an illusion that revolves around you and put you face to face with the catchy melodies sung by the vocals, in perfect synchrony. percussion once again as loud or louder than the drums, in general, if it wasn’t for the guitar solo it would be very distracting. the bass sits nicely on this one and the track would be a lot better in my opinion if the drums were a bit more creative than what was played here. 10. Oh Daddy - 3:56 love the minimalistic intro, and when that low note on that piano is thunderously smashed at the very center you instantly get the dark vibe that’s about to hit you, and no amount of guitar layers, pretty harmonics, counter-melodies, harmonies or backing vocals will ever let your attention wander, like a dim light in the very center of a dark road—but during a freaking storm. in this analogy, the drums are the road, the bass the curves, the vocal is the light, and everything else is rain, wind, and darkness. the tempestuous nature of this song makes me feel like the lyrics might reflect the turbulent relationships between the band members, as the many conflicts they endured are no secret. 11. Gold Dust Woman - 4:55 truly impressive instrumentation. yet another production masterfully executed, with impeccable mix and remarkable arrangement. vocals deliver a such a great performance that you’re left completely amazed. what a journey. I love when a record manages to start off just right and then at the very end delivers a knockout blow that takes you to another dimension. I don’t think they could have chosen a better way to end this album. there are so many layers and so much stuff going on, and yet everything is incredibly clear and well balanced. you can’t help but feel surrounded by all of these sounds, like standing in the eye of a hurricane.
4 Stars, solid album. Vocals are really the highlight of every song. No real bad songs, but not enough songs that are A Sides to justify 5 stars. Second Hand News - The droning palm muted acoustic guitar is so good!! Also the final solo didn't even need to go that hard. ♡ Dreams - Everytime this song plays I gaslight people saying it played in San Junipero even though it never did. People always believe me, this song was meant to be played in Cyber Lesbian Heaven. Never Going Back Again - Very tasteful guitar arrangement, great song. Don't Stop - This sounds like a Beatles song that is trying too hard. I can see it working as a nice Arena anthem, but not really my thing. Go Your Own Way - Seems like every song in this album is created with the purpose of making you wanna know the lyrics to sing them from the top of your lungs. I like it. The bass fill on the chorus is TASTY and the minimalist guitar solo is exactly what the song needs. Good stuff. Songbird - I enjoyed the piano much more than I did the vocal arrangement. I was anticipating something more Elton John-y and got disappointed. If there's a version without the guitar it's probably better than the original. (Matter of fact the first thing I did was finding https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQFpkEFbVrA and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rJ6EzJ9xTUc. Once they sync you get a better song lmao) ♡ The Chain - Not a single bad sound in this song. The Vocal harmonies are so fucking good. You Make Loving Fun - Good enough radio song. Not my thing. I Don't Want to Know - The vocal harmonies are really good. A bit too yee-haw for my taste. Oh Daddy - The part with the guitar harmonics and the bass groove is really good. The fragility of the lyrics is conveyed really well by the vocal performance. Nice Song. ♡ Gold Dust Woman - Another amazing vocal performance. Though this time the guitars (both acoustic and the electric ones at the end) are also amazing. Added another song to my liked list. Great way to end a great album.
I'm giving this a 4 'cause it's obviously sweet but I've heard it way too many times and prefer listening to some other Mac albums. Like Tusk!
Despite what some say, this album isn't as overrated as they make it out to be. However, it's also not as good as others will have you believe. Yes, there's a couple down moments on the record (Songbird & Oh Daddy), but other than that, it's a really solid album. It's not the greatest album ever made, not even close... but it's still a lot of fun!! 84/100 = " ★ ★ ★ ★ "
For all intents and purposes this should be a 5 star, songs are all great. I just don't think I ever would go out of my way to listen to. Sure if it comes up on the radio or feed, I will tap my toe and hum along, but I just don't think I would put it on (expect to listen to a couple bass fills on Dreams). But that's more on me than on the album
My rating is actually 3.5, but I gave it 4 since I can't give half stars. In general the album was good and I can see why it is so popular and beloved by many people. My favorite tracks were Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way and I Don't Want to Know.
Love break the chain
Day 0012/1001 of One Album a Day / Listened to whilst: studying Fav tracks: Second Hand News / Dreams / Go Your Own Way / The Chain Worst tracks: Never Going Back Again
"The Chain": the only good Fleetwood Mac song. 4 stars anyway.
didn't fell like listening to this at the moment maybe a later date?
Never going back again riff lernen!
Good album, definitely a classic, I personally just don’t love fleetwood mac.
Some good songs. More of a range than I thought. I don’t love the sound of the recording, very compressed vocals. But I like it more than I thought. Never Going Back Again is super corny and out of place. The Chain is a surprise as a good song. I’m sure I’ve heard it before.
It's a bit of a banger, to be sure, though I don't really share the five-star love a lot of people give it. Undoubtedly solid.
Absolutt klassiker.
Go Your Own Way The Chain
good, classic
The Chain song is on it. That says it all.
A classic, listened to this a lot of times.
4 - it was really interesting to both listen in order and to listen to the less popular songs, there’s definitely a split between the well loved and the rest. I can see why it has some of the best ratings: it’s just hard to dislike
1 song was a bit slow for my liking. 8/10
Classic all bangers.
Pretty much an all time classic. Would give 4.5 if I could
i am surprised i didn't grow up with this album given the ridiculous amount of 70s rock that my parents listened to. this is fun!
All too played and all too familiar. Is it a great album - yes? Is it great enough that I can see it pop up on my listening list and not roll my eyes and sigh "this again" - no. It probably deserves a 5 but I'm just sick of it. And it's just not impactful enough that I can listen to it 100 times and not get sick of it. I'm probably getting a bit sick of all the same rock that this website is generating for me, plus, on my list this album followed Metallica. Now that's an album that takes it to the next level.
Look, it's a good album, with some great songs ... but for me the second half really tails off and I just don't see it as one of the greatest albums ever made. I think the legend of the album is why people rate it so highly, but it just isn't that amazing. It's a good 4, but not a 5, and nowhere near the best ever.
"Rumours? No - that's all true." If I have anything negative to say it's completely a personal-taste thing, as I never liked Fleetwood Mac as a kid. Too often the super-sweet melodies/harmonies of this album especially hadn't connected with me (even if I've actually owned the album since forever ago) much at all and there was no edge or danger to the music....and for me Christine McVie had an objectively lovely voice and yet her songs and singing did nothing for me. ...but at the same time wtf it sold like 30 MILLION copies and when they apparently went into the studio aiming for a flawless record where every song could potentially be a hit, they nailed it in a way that maybe only a small handful of acts in history have ever nailed it. So, huge props for achieving the nearly unachievable goal. Also I'm older so who GAF about being edgy. Also it *sounds* absolutely amazing. There's a lot of subtlety in virtually each and every song from all instruments that gets uncovered when you carefully listen in headphones, even if you (I) have heard these songs a quabillion times. TL;DR: Like most of the diamond-selling monster classic rock albums I'm always sick of these songs if I hear one in the wild but listening to the album front to back is the way to do it and I'll always fully-appreciate it this way. Favourite track: "Gold Dust Woman" 8/10 4 stars
Sure, I've heard of Fleetwood Mac from the 70's and apparently just about every song from this album by ubiquitous radio broadcast. For whatever reason I never actually listened to the record and abided the band as pleasant and inoffensive. Now, taking the time to actively regard it, I realize what a treasure of a time capsule it is. The songwriting and performances exude inspired expression and the studio engineering captures the comfort of the soothing rhythm section throughout. I just try not to think about the 'rumors' that the band mates were perpetrating heinous hanky panky.
I think this is their classic album - go your own way is a fucking great song. As great as that song is don’t stop thinking about tomorrow is so corny - I hate it. I’m sure this gets tons of 5s, I’ll give it a 4. Alsways said the songs Stevie is featured in are the best. Side note I hate the two nuts hanging from Mic’s midsection.
I’m not a huge fan, but I feel one must admit how many solid bangers live here. Not all of it, mind you. Some of it is pretty boring. I do, however, reject the notion that the personal emotional struggles among band members actually caused the music to be better. I just think the struggles happened right when a bunch of decent songwriters managed to get lucky and write a few good songs.
Great album
Another classic album I've never listened to for whatever reason. Liked this one a lot more than Tusk, didn't realise how many songs on it I had already heard Highlights: The Chain, Dreams, Gold Dust Woman
Certified hood classisc
Best Song: The Chain. A palpable tension between the two vocalists that perfectly mirrors the lyrics. I also love how the guitar and bass take up the argument in the song's final minute. Worst Song: Never Going Back Again. Stevie Nicks is just such a powerful part of the band that a whole ballad without her influence feels like a waste. Overall: A few wonderful, ethereal masterpieces of songs. Few albums are able to cultivate a "vibe" so distinct as what is on offer here. The best songs, in which Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham play off one another, are as good as this genre offers. Sadly, there are also too many B-siders, where each vocalist goes solo, that prevent the album from being truly transcendent.
В поддержку диска были выпущены четыре сингла: «Go Your Own Way», «Dreams», «Don’t Stop» и «You Make Loving Fun».
Super chill natuurlijk
A classic. Nothing else to note
Me gusto, buen álbum en general. Lo volvere a escuchar
Some absolute classics (some I hadn’t even realised were Fleetwood Mac). I love The Chain but it always feels like 2 songs to me. Dreams and Go Your Own Way of course absolute favourites. The first and last track felt slightly out of place, just a bit understated for an album with such strong songs.
“Fleetwood Mac made some of their best music while they were fighting.” “Rumours?” “Nah it’s all true.”
AOR
I only really listened to their earlier blues stuff. It’s quite a distant memory by the time of this album. Twas a good listen. The chain is class! Started reading about the founding members of the band and it’s pretty colourful, the 70s has a lot to answer for haha.
Well-crafted soft/pop/folky rock songs exploring personal themes, particularly related to love and it’s failing. Good songs, great sounds, with the use of several quality singers and strong vocal harmonies. Some infectious melodies. Solid album all around, though I’m not on the “this is one of the best albums ever” train.
A lot of pop sensibilities on here, a nice listen, but not an all time classic in my book. 4 stars
4.5
High points on album - euphoric ‘bow bow bow’ bits on Second Hand News. The Formula One section on The Chain. The divine heavenly background harmonies on disco romp/affair You Make Loving Fun. Has a clutch of singles like Don’t Stop, Dreams and Go Your Own Way which are so overplayed and yet still so good. Definitely helps the album that the romantic crossfire hurricane behind the making of the album is so legendary because there are a couple of songs or so that aren’t nearly as high quality or as interesting. Songbird is a robustly boring, typical pretty ballad that Nigel Tufnel rewrote a few years later and called Lick My Love Pump. Oh Daddy and Gold Dust Woman right at the end are a touch too atmospheric and the combination of them brings the album down to a whimper. It’s these 3 songs plus the overplayedness of the main hit singles that curtail these most pervasive of Rumours from being an all time favourite.
You can't argue with this album, really. It's not one I choose to listen to much because one hears it so often anyway.
A fun and fluffy album as juniors in high school at age 17 and an enjoyable listen this time through about 45 years later. Fleetwood was big before Rumours, they were huge afterwards due to the several hits off the album. Nine of the eleven song got radio play at the time which makes it close to a greatest hits album. You Make Loving Fun, Loretta! The album comes in at (4.2*s)
This album is certainly Fleetwood at their peak. A great follow up to the title album. Throw a bunch of drugs and relationship issues in the mix and you get some good music. Could drop the 2 slow tracks "Songbird" and "Oh Daddy" to make it even stronger. Knew it would make the list and deservedly so...3.6.
Have been looking forward to this album. Did not disappoint. Strong from front to back. It deserves all the accolades and praise it has received over the years. Deservedly should be in the conversation for one of the best albums of all time. Backstory and turmoil from the band at the time only increase its legacy. There are only a few albums in history that exceed this album so I wouldn't fault anyone giving this a 5 rating. 4.29 stars
Even regarded as only a fraction of its reputation it’s still pretty damn good.
It’s a classic. I’m not a huge fan and yet I bought it again yesterday because I secretly do like it
listened to again iconic
So good
Generischer Rock. Langweilig.
Iconic.
This one. SO CLOSE to being perfect. But man that Oh Daddy song is just so awful. Songbird also is another drag on it, and Gold Dust Woman is a bit of a weak ending. I understand why people want to give it five stars though, because the other 8 songs are such strong classics. Eight superlative songs that are better than any eight songs by most groups. I owned this album back in the 70s and listened to it plenty of times. But I always wanted to skip those two songs. And a five star album shouldn’t have me wanting to skip anything.
Just for the chain
Great classic album with lots of well known hits. Always loved the vocal harmonizations, and one of the tightest rhythm sections in music. Would go 4.5 if I could, some of the songs just aren’t for me, but all easy to listen to.
So lyrical and emotional, beautiful.
While RUMOURS is a fine album, it is not my favorite album from Fleetwood Mac. Perhaps I don't click as much with this album as others because I have not experienced divorce or addiction. The latter the reason for the former on this album. I only enjoyed "Dreams", "Go Your Own Way", "The Chain", and "Gold Dust Woman", which were already in my collection, and I think the album cover is actually underwhelming. I honestly feel that TANGO IN THE NIGHT is a better album in every way.
classic. jammy and groovy, good album for a long drive
Overhyped but good listen
Honestly, I think that many of these albums are significantly overrated. And while this one's rankings near the top of the list is a bit too much, I understand most of the hype. It's rare to have an album so packed with distinct hits that have stood the test of time and are this well sequenced. Sadly, one of the members clearly didn't pull their weight (looking at you, Christine McVie), putting three dull songs into the album (Songbird, You Make Loving Fun, Oh Daddy). That and Gold Dust Woman is a pretty meh closer. If Christine McVie's solo songs were removed and Gold Dust Woman was improved, this would be an easy 5. Unfortunately, those blemishes reduce the score. 4/5
Stand Out Tracks Dreams - one of the best songs ever written Never Going Back Again Don’t Stop - it grew on me a bit The Chain You Make Loving Fun - second favourite on here Not sure I love the whole album but the Two songs I like I LOVE 4/5
It was nice to sit down and give this album a dedicated listen. I’ve normally only heard it via random tracks played in various locations. And who doesn’t love an album with lore! This album oddly blends country, folk, and rock ‘n’ roll seamlessly. Stand out track: Dreams
I don't have a history with this album, but I feel like I know most of these songs already through the collective unconsciousness (at least that's the rumor). Now I need some cranberry juice
71-100
Extremely solid album, easy to see why it's one of the best selling of all time. Loaded with hits from start to finish. Can easily listen to the album again and again.
pretty fucking good. probably in my top 10. very interesting sound and very frequent energy shifts gives me fucking whiplash Favorite song: Songbird
I can't deny this album's production and mix of blues/rock/pop to full effect. I don't think I agree this is one of the best albums ever made, but it is indeed very good. It's not this album's fault for the attention it's gotten and the overplaying of its biggest hits. Maybe one day I'll listen to this again, for the time being I'll give it its due credit.
This album didn’t blow me away but I get it’s importance and I know the stories that went on behind it. The “big hits” could basically be their greatest hits and that’s hard to believe that it’s all coming from one album. I consider Fleetwood Mac in the same grouping as Supertramp where everyone knows them and seems to like them but they aren’t anyone’s favorite band. It’s solidly produced, well written and generally a nice sounding album. The non hits don’t really tread water but they don’t really sink either. This is just an album worth listening to but you wouldn’t need to go back to it. Choice cut: The Chain
180/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑
All sane people agree that “Dreams” is one of the best things humanity produced the last century. And Rumours is a great album. But, contemplating with one foot raised on a baroque footstool, does it reeeeally tickle my freely swinging balls enough to warrant five stars? No
Would be better with even less Stevie Nicks.
Finally, some good freaking music. But only giving it a 4 as it's not my total jam genre.
Genuine banger album that may actually suffer from too many hits outshining the filler on it. Great album. Musicians should work with their toxic exes more often.
4.5/5. No notes.
Obviously the GOAT of albums. What a year '77 was. Of course I couldn't have told you the titles of many of these songs but have heard all of them before. I don't know what stops me from fully 'loving' this album though, maybe it's *too* full on? It just feels more like an effort to listen and like it than it should be. But still gotta respect the band format. Maybe I just need to relax. Run a bath or something. Good closer though. 4 stars.
entirely overrated but undeniably great 4.5/5! i refuse to conform to the standard, and it's closer to a 4 than a 5
Mér fannst þetta mikið mun betra en mig grunaði. Þarf aðra.
I’ve heard of Fleetwood Mac. I know (from having glanced at the top rated albums list on this site) that this is a beloved album. But as I’m sitting here before pressing play, I couldn’t name a single Fleetwood Mac song or member of the band or even the genre. — …Hmm. It’s well-made to be sure, and I can see why people like it. I’ve heard many of not most of these songs despite not knowing who was behind them. Aside from a few tracks, though, I wasn’t blown away or deeply moved. Maybe I was expecting too much. The tracks with the female vocalists front-and-center are my favorites; the big hits (“Don’t Stop,” “Go Your Own Way”) felt overplayed and hard to approach with fresh ears. I wanted to love this like so many others do. I liked it well enough. I should probably give it another shot. The 4 stars is mostly for “Dreams,” and, to be perfectly honest, a sense of obligation based on its reputation. For the rest of the album, to my own taste based on this first listen? A middle-of-the-road 3. I’m not proud of going along with the crowd, but what can you do. Favorite tracks: Dreams, The Chain
Probably my favourite album by them containing favourite songs especially “Go Your Own Way”.
Never heard this album in it´s total, it´s nice. As a kid i only knew the blues band fleetwood mac that my father played. It was with tango in the night that that changed :)
A certified classic that over the past years has been gathering a lot of steam again. If I hadn't already listened to it so often I would've been glad to have discovered it here
Proof that cheating on your partner is the key to making good music
I don't understand why people like this so much. It is very good, yes, but best-of-all-time good? I wouldn't call it that. Stand-out: I Don't Want to Know
It's quite a journey from Peter Green and \"O Well\" to this female driven, fluffy soft, pop rock, but it's really good puff and Stevie Nix has not yet fully developed her \"sing like a sheep\" style. Well, it's coming on that last track. I never owned this record, but only two songs on it aren't familiar as my right pocket which attests to its massive appeal. Pretty good stuff, but give me back the solid rockin' blues that came before.
Ok, obviously this is a classic. The quality of the pop music, the story and the singing all mark this out. I dont see what elevates it from good to great though. It needs something special to elevate it up to the rating it currently has in my opinion.
Good shit.
80% Best: Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, You Make Loving Fun Must-Hear? Sure
So breezy and totally undeniable. A fantastic collection of songs but I’ve particularly always liked Never Goin Back Again
A tremendous grower for me. Have brushed it off multiple times as an incomplete album with a few great songs . But every listen unlocks more and more songs and I think I’m starting to fully appreciate The Mac!
There are a few things that hold me back from giving this a perfect rating, but i have always really enjoyed this band and their messy dynamics. Goes without saying, this album has some massive bangers on it, shit kicks ass.
Ok, this one is a classic one that even I know! Several favorites here.
When I saw this come up I just assumed I'd be giving it 5 stars, so I was a little surprised that I ended up at 4. It's an incredible album, and maybe I'm too stingy with my fives - but it broke down to about half the songs being all time greats, and about half being very good. All Time Greats: Dreams, Never Going Back, Go Your Own Way, The Chain, Oh Daddy, Gold Dust Woman. Very and/or PrettyGood: Second Hand News, Don't Stop, Songbird, You Make Loving Fun, I Don't Want To Know. That makes for a Greats to Goods ratio of 0.54. With 5 out of 11 songs being more "eh", it falls short of the vaunted 5 stars, even with 6 world-beaters. Album Cover: A (What a gangly man)
Another borderline 5 for me. I know this is a classic album and it was very pleasant. I would happily listen again but won't go out of my way to search it out.
I have a friend who loves Fleetwood Mac so I've heard this album (cassette, CD) often. The Chain made me a bit sad, reminding me that Our Flag Means Death has been canceled.
An album that exploded on FM radio, bringing Fleetwood Mac to a totally different place to where they started in the UK blues explosion. Unfairly criticised by some, it has some great songs, a wide range, wonderful vocals and top class musicianship.
Well written lyrics. Multiple voices. Energetic.
great listen, classic band and classic album 4/5
Wow. It’s classic! What do you want from me?
Some awesome songs here - a few boring ones though.
Great album
An absolute brilliant classic album. Production was pretty good, but they could have done better. The rest is almost perfect.
One of my favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. So close to a 5 but second half lets me down just a touch. 4.5 stars
Not as good as their greatest hits album
# 271 : Great Album, Full of bangers and classics. Every "best of" list seems to have this record on it, 7th for Rolling Stone & 11th for Apple (e.g.), but it's always a pleasure to hear this one on the radio or whatever. Favourite Track : The Chain
There was a reason that this album was such a big seller. It is a bit AOR but there is no denying the quality.
this album has some of the best rock songs of the 70's on it, some deep cut bangers, and a few truly annoying songs.
Jeg havde 3 fornøjelige gennemlytninger over weekenden.
good but can retire. buckingham great player not enough credit
Although the album cover screams “first class douche,“ the music itself is really good. Like in the case of most albums where there are a ton of well-known singles, I enjoyed the tracks I had not heard before much better.
It's pretty good. Some absolute bangers, but not amazing through and through.
"This album is boring", I say as gates of hellfire and brimstone open to swallow me whole. Okay, but seriously, this album is THE pop rock album for a reason. I might not think it's a flawless masterpiece, but like, what are you even doing with your life if you can't find joy in Rumors by Fleetwood Mac. I say this as a certified boomer rock hater.
really liked "The Chain", the main reason which led me to listen the full album.
It's a beautiful album. A classic.
Amazing
Лучшая песня - The Chain.
overall rating: 9/10 (would be 10/10 if i lived during the peak of this album) album gives off the typical ’70s vibes that has its songs often played on the car radio on summer road trips (or road trips in general) certainly loved all the tracks esp these - dream - don’t stop - the chain
I know almost all of these songs by heart - they are so deeply ingrained in our collective pop culture. But I’ve never listened to the album start to finish. It is truly a great record. Great performances , great songwriting , great melodies. It still holds up
Don’t know what to do…I’m feeling the pressure of a five, but there are three songs that I just don’t like: Songbird, Oh Daddy, and Gold Dust Woman. The others are absolute bangers and classics!!!
Classic after classic
Found some new songs to love!
Made to be all killer no filler pretty close you know most of this album if you have ever heard classic rock radio. Good album can feel the tension from the interpersonal conflicts.
It's hard to review this album. Incredibly hyped up with some absolute classics on it. It's pretty hard to beat Dreams and The Chain. Solid album and I think most people would give this a 5 and I do love it but it's more of a 4 star album for me because quite honestly I very rarely feel the need to go back and listen to this album.
What a classic. I think what makes this album great is the back and forth of blues and pop. One minute it's bonafide blues and folk album and a second later, you're back a the disco. And while that might seem a bit bi-polar and inconsistent, it totally works. They pull it off. There is so much energy in this record. I love how they switch out vocalists for different songs. I think there is a world where Fleetwood Mac could have been The Grateful Dead. IDK, maybe not. But they have the framework, I just wish they could have kept it together. Don't date your bandmates I guess.
This record snuck up on me over time. I didn't get around to it until a few years ago, when I scored a super clean copy on vinyl. When I dropped the needle, I didn't expect to like it, having heard many of these songs a million times in the background while shopping at Caldor and Marshalls with my mom as a kid. Turns out that, when heard back to back, these songs are GREAT, and taken as a whole, this record is AWESOME. It's way better than wallpaper. Its reputation is well-deserved. I love it.
This has always sounded like a bunch of swingers locked up in a house, forced to be groovy. It's excellent.
This is a solid album with a coherent sound throughout. I really like the combination of the man and woman singing together sometimes. The instruments sounds good and I like the lyrics. I could imagine us listening to it in the car with my dad driving around in Sweden and that makes me feel nostalgic.
Although I am not a big Fleetwood Mac fan, I was familiar with the songs on this album when it was released. My mother had a copy in her collection. While I have liked many of the songs on this it is a tad "poppy" for me. That being said it is a very iconic album and well worth a listen. I find I enjoy some of the deep cuts better than the more well-known numbers.
i put off on listening to this for too long mostly cause i thought the genres were boring. the album cover is cool and this is a really well recorded album. however, you can tell which songs are the intended highlights since its kind of jarring at times with the jump in quality of the songs. the highs are great and the lows are ok at worst. the lyrics to oh daddy feels icky. 4 personal favs: dreams, the chain, you make loving fun
Sebs favorite record.
Un classique <3
Great album had a couple of songs I didn't love as much as the all timers
Ah. Rumours. First off I have to forget that I've got a bit bored with this - I mean , it's nice, it's really, really nice, but you're never going to get excited by it are you? - and remember that I've enjoyed listening to it two or three times a year for approaching 50 years. And Stevie Nicks and Lyndsey Buckingham's songs are great. Although some of Christine McVie's songs aren't. It's a bit of a victim of it's own success too - you're never going to put it on when you have friends round.
Don't stop, thinking about ... Thunders, You can go your own way, You make loving fun.
Good, but over-rated. Quite a few of the songs are great, but not all of them. Favorite song: dreams.
7 stellar songs 4 duds.
Already heard this one, pretty dope. Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite vocalists of all time but I think the songs that aren't already indisputable classics don't do much for me unfortunately
The songs are a bit samey but this is firmly from the era when albums were cohesive experiences from start to finish. Try not to get hyped during 'The Chain' or 'Dreams'.
I'd rather Jack. But seriously. It's pretty lush from start to finish.
A lot of this album is still too 70's pop-rock for me and overplayed (for my tastes), but I do like a lot of the songs. I have to give it 4 stars for the influence, even if it is maybe just a 3 or 3.5 star album for me.
Great
....(.
Not exactly my kind of music, but a very good album
One of the all time classics. So many good songs on this album and perfect for summer. Every song is a tune. A 4.5/5 for me. The album is full of hits, every song could be a major hit and has been for other bands as well. Favourite song: All of them Least favourite: There is not a bad song on the album Album artwork: Fantastic cover
Mega chill
I really hated Fleetwood Mac until I was well into adulthood. I still don't love them; but it's hard to deny that Rumours is a runaway freight train of an album. I didn't mind listening to it again.
I really liked this. I knew lots of the songs on it anyway because obviously - though if you'd asked me to name a Fleetwood Mac song I'd probably have struggled. I see why this album is so popular though - very nice to dance round the garden on a sunny day to.
It’s ok
A really amazing album, maybe a Little bit too overrated btw
Amazing album Favourites- dreams, the chain, go your own way, don’t stop
One of the classics
After being presented with another Fleedwood Mac album (Tusk) here I added some of their albums to my favorites including this one. I already knew about half of the tracks and liked them. The tracks previously unknown to me are equally good. An easy 4 stars.
Great album. Silver Springs should have made the cut, amazing song.
Christine McVie... her voice is so beautiful
Extraordinary Album
stevie nicks slay
Good. The Chain is a great song.
go your own way, the chain
Very good 4.5
Pretty pretty pretty good.
I liked some of the songs! It was a really long cd so I listened to what I could.
Ich mag die Musik.
Loved it!
can't not like a bit of Fleetwood Mac, never listened to a whole album, I didn't know some of the tunes I recognise were by them.
Solid 4
This is something anyone would enjoy if you put it on. Classics on classics
Fantastic. All time great.
I may be the only person on the planet who prefers S/T and Tusk, but my appreciation for and enjoyment of this album has grown slightly. I don’t think it will ever be an all-time favorite, but I like it more now than I ever have. 4/5
Can absolutely see why this is on the list - great production, and just awesome songwriting. Favourite songs: Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, The Chain.
Once chic to hate on Stevie Nicks or Fleetwood Mac, this album cares not for that. While some of the songs have become overplayed earworms at different times of their existence, the songs are actually good. They were overplayed for a reason. One of the chillest listens from one of the most complicated bands.
Great album. Great from front to back. Definitely worthy of it's position in regards to it's legacy and status
Great songs, great harmonies, great voices. Bunch of classics on this album. I wonder how many millions of dollars from this album went towards cocaine?
It's quite easy to see why this album is considered one of the greatest of all time. Only a portion of it lines up with my personal tastes so I'm rating it accordingly to that, but it is nearly perfect objectively
This is a good album. I adore how the vocals from Buckingham and Nicks play into each other, and a lot of the songs are confirmed classics in my eyes. Even though “The Chain” has some unexpected instrumentation, the whole album is good and chock-full of banger songs. That’s why I think this album deserves a 93.6% or a 4.68/5.
Refreshing, well balanced, warm, effortless.
Great music because the writers were under "Pressure" from those they perceived to judge them.
Classic album
It's Fleetwood Mac at their Mac-i-ness.
FAVO: Dreams, Don't Stop, Go your Own Way, The Chain
interessante bekannte Musik
Classic! Mac’s always a vibe man. I was floating down the highway to dream
I forget how good these guys were at the peak of their powers.
Total classic. The music might be smooth, but the lyrics are biting and give the album a real edge.
Growing up, I used to always change the station when Fleetwood Mac came on. For some reason, I just wasn't into it. (When I discovered the early blues albums, I was floored. But that's basically a different band.) The older I get, though, the more I start to like and appreciate Rumours. "Songbird" is lovely. "Never Going Back Again" is emotional (look up Lindsey Buckingham's live, solo, acoustic performance of it). But I still skip past "Go Your Own Way" and a few others.
Bueno Soft rock/pop de calidad
Y’know it might be overrated almost
Mid to late 70's rock woven with some more timeless rock gems. Like several of the albums from Fleetwood Mac, this one includes multi-layered musicality, highlighting the skills of the artists on guitar, bass, drums, and vocals in varied blends throughout the songs and album.
Spent most of the 80s listening to this thanks to my Ma blasting her tape of it around the house. Still find it a bit hit and miss but the hits slap
Stevie!!!!
I think this works better as an album than when I hear individual songs out in the world. I'm not exactly on the Fleetwood Mac bandwagon, but I can see why people love this album.
Don't stop, thinking about ... Thunders, You can go your own way, You make loving fun.
Heard of the band and a few of the songs on this album. Quite enjoy it, 4 so far.
It's a banger. Lots of absolute classics. Enjoyed revisiting this!
Not bad, gets better
Great album. Probably not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album but some fantastic music.
... Long time ago.... Still nice to hear
Great, classy, dreamy, timeless.
Beautiful classic, although there aren’t many songs I would put on my favorites list, I’ll always listen to the album on occasion
Rock/Pop, 1977 -> 4
I know, I know…great album, extraordinarily popular…I’ve just never been a fan
Never been much of a Fleetwood Mac fan, but this was pretty good.
Legends.
Great album. Melodies and instrumentation are fantastic throughout.
Always a great classic. Takes me back In time
ja bin jz gad s müed zum vill schribe aber omg nebet de scho bekannte banger han ich oh daddy so fest gliebt
Hit after hit. No clunkers here!
Amazing Album, one of the best songs is on this album. all around great album.
Classic rock with great tunes and great voices.
Musica marcantes foram: Dreams, Don't stop, Go your Own way e The chain.
I like me some F Mac
I reeeally love about half the tracks on here, 1, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12. But unfortunately the others are just alright. So I can't give it a perfect score. Also, this score is only for the deluxe version with Silver Springs included, great song.
SCC
Love love LOVE!!!!
They snapped on Dreams and The Chain. Didn’t realize Don’t Stop was them. They were probably ahead of their time with this sound in 1977.
Very good pop album. Different genres and influences i didnt expect. Creative and artsy music. Definitely worth a relistening.
Cool album, a bit country, but I love the sound, the dynamics, the cohesiveness of it. I agree that it's one of the best.
I could be really snobby about this coke addled album but it is a great collection of songs produced well. I'm a bit of a miserablist so I'm gonna say that "Oh Daddy" is a bit naff. 4
Cmon now. Loaded album. Chains is the only song I have in my library though; just not into FM as much.
Laying all cards on the table, I'm really not a big Fleetwood Mac fan. There, I said it! I know this album is widely respected, so I'll do my best to shirk preconceptions. Album opens on a bit of a drum and bass romp called Second Hand News. Guitar is super buried until like the last 30 seconds when it splashes through. Really nice layering in the production that sounds very clear. Dreams is a timeless jam. Groovy bassline with beautiful vocals on top and effective overdubbing. Makes for a spacious easy dance song. Love the burbling organ line. Never Going Back Again is another familiar one. Beautiful acoustic guitar work that is mixed very forward and crisp. Don't Stop is one that I can't help but tap along to. I don't love the song, but it is damned infectious and singable. Same can be said for Go Your Own Way. I understand the broad appeal here; I really do. It just don't strike me as particularly interesting. Maybe some of that has to do with hearing it about a billion times. But I think at the core, I just don't think these are very interesting songs. They are great pop to be sure, but don't stimulate me in any significant fashion. The Chain is another classic, and deserves its seat at the table. Moody stomp of a song and I love the acoustic melodies. Also, some super throaty bass towards the conclusion. Vocals on You Make Loving Fun are great. Fun song. I Don't Want to Know is a low point for me. Sort of polka-y plonk with some thin ass vocals. I was unsure of Oh Daddy when it started out, but this is, to me, one of the more interesting songs here. Lots of interesting instrumental noodling behind the trudging drum and lamenting vocals. I can dig it. Strong finish on Gold Dust Woman. Really do enjoy the smokey western vibes evoked by the twangy guitar. I totally understand the appeal here. This is solid classic rock for people who love straight classic rock. Production is very tight throughout and the sounds are varied. Lots of radio play out of this single album. Highlights to me are Dreams, Gold Dust Woman, Oh Daddy, and The Chain. I will say that in general I think the mega-hits are over-blown (looking at you Go Your Own Way and Don't Stop). That said, this is solid and I am glad I listened. Its a low 4 for me. Added to Playlists: - Never Going Back Again (Sunny-vibes)
4.5 for me. Fantastic album. Don't normally listen to this all the way through but I regularly listen to a lot of songs on this album. My Dad used to play a lot of these songs growing up. He would always play Landslide
I have been looking forward to this album! This is like that Lynard Skynard album where every song is just hit after hit. Very solid album from start to finish. I expected this to nail a 5 star from the hop, but it never quite got there for me personally. Lots of variety in the songs, different talented singers, each instrument had time to shine, but there was never that rock out moment that I was looking for. Very high 4 that doesn't quite crack 5 stars when I put it toe to toe with Janis Joplin or other 5 star albums.
Good. I see why people like it, and if previously heard a lot of the tracks without knowing it was Fleetwood Mac. Some tracks are nothing special but none are bad.
basically the sound of the 70s. tons of hits on this. not my favorite, but I can't deny it's power.
niiiice
Would be five stars if Silver Springs was included.
Great album
Other than a few misses, it’s a solid album. Played it twice today!
I like this project because it has me listening to music I enjoy but don't always make an effort to listen to day to day. Perfect example here.
Much better Folk Rock as opposed to the Paul Simon album
Almost a 5 if not for a couple of stinkers at the end.
I've never been a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, but I can't deny that this album has a bunch of great songs. My favorites are "The Chain", "You Make Loving Fun", and "Gold Dust Woman". It's interesting to see the play counts on spotify. The Chain has over a billion views, but the other two are among the "runts" in this album.
Wild how Christine McVie's track's were some of the strongest on Tusk, and some of the weakest here. & Tusk might have also made me really hate when Lindsay Buckingham goes into hoedown mode, because 'Second Hand News' is super annoying to me now. The great songs are still really great, tho. Off to listen to some solo Stevie Nicks.
Love, iconic
Classic
- "dreams" is pretty goated but maybe overused - "go your own way" is a classic but maybe overused - yeah the album vibe is "oh this ones a classic" - ok on the 3rd time, "never going back again" slaps, "don't stop" slaps - i think my album opinions are gonna be heavily dependent on my mood whoops
so many solid hits on this album. good to listen to with Hannah.
Lots of hits. Enjoyed it more than I thought I would!
I enjoyed the throw back
Stevie Nicks carries this album
My dad listened to this album a lot when I was a kid I enjoyed most of it
I had always heard how great this album was and it has so many hits that I knew most of the songs. At first I thought it was kind of boring but I realized I just don't like the Lindsey Buckingham tracks. Very generically poppy. The Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie tracks were more my style but on the whole I think it is a pretty great listen. The Chain is a banger.
Solid
- Super Produktion - Hit Singles The Chain und Dreams beste Tracks. Ansonsten noch Gold Dust Woman hörenswert, Rest plätschert so vor sich hin - faktische inkorrektheit hat mich schon immer gestört: "Thunder always happens when it's raining" 3,5
Favorit: Never Going Back Again. 3,7.
I knew 2 of the songs, more then I thought.
Not a Mac fan, per se, but this is solid. It's been watered down over the years with all the radio play, but still sounds pretty fresh. Heard new things in old songs on this listen. Can see why it was so popular. Still don't like Stevie Nicks though. 4.4
Very good album. Lots of classic tracks and is just very easy to listen to
How often does it take a band 11 albums to reach their best work? It’s quite a feat. Well, I guess that’s what heartbreak and drama do: they make for good creative output. This album is an emotional roller-coaster, the heights of the romantic joy being commensurate with the depths of rejection’s and uncertainty’s despair. The album is also perfectly titled, alluding not only to insecurity but to the idea that everyone is talking behind everyone else’s back.
Good one
Good album! Shows the variety of the group!
Good enough. Some tunes are more memorable than others.
I went into this one thinking I'd give it a 3 stars at most. Of course I've heard most of these songs so many times on the radio and I never really thought much of FM in general based on the many times I've heard the songs. But when I really gave the album a listen I found that I could not dismiss it as easily as I expected to. There is good shit on this album which should not be surprising given its status as a "classic rock album". I couldn't in good conscience give this album less than 4 stars after really listening to it. The diversity of the tracks, the different voices (actual and auteur) throughout the album, the musicianship, all made more vibrant given the crazy and dysfunctional personal relationship amongst the band members all make this a great album. Even if I've heard most of the songs hundreds of times already.
I've never been a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, but I get all of the hype around Rumours. This album is solid all of the way through and has all of the Fleetweed Mac songs that I do like on it.
One of the best and most important albums in rock history, but if I can be honest, that’s mostly true for the first 2/3rds. It peaks with “The Chain”, but while I still think “You Make Loving Fun” kicks ass, the last 3 tracks have historically done little for me. They seriously dropped “Silver Springs” for “I Don’t Wanna Know”? A-. Wish I could drop the minus, but I shouldn’t
Classic!
Un'altra hit pazzesca "Go your own way"
Jaa gewoon lekker
Didn't realize how many bangers and classics were on this album alone
A great album packed full of classic known songs, worth the price of entry and more.
