absolutely no. how the fuck is this anywhere near this list? what does it have to offer that is unique, genre defining, innovative or spellbinding? nothing, thats what. if zeros were an option.

banger

Gliding breathy vocals that haunt and a mellow vibe that is so chill it is a Lana Del Rey MOOD. Pure and beautiful

I actually like Lana.

Wow ok, I didn't expect my biggest surprise of the whole project to be this close to the end. I have listened to a tiny bit of Lana Del Rey, I thought she was alright but not really my thing. I don't know what exactly I was hearing the other times because this is beautiful. Such soft and heartfelt songs, not done in a way thats feels at all annoying or melodramatic. I genuinely just can't believe how amazing this is compared to my expectations, I'm so glad to see that even being almost done with this there are still some undiscovered gems hiding every now and then.

20’s Pop ⭐️Chemtrails Over The Country Club

285/1089 oh i know this album and artist WELL, one of my all-time faves 🥹 choosing to have this as her representation on the list is a bit bizarre to me (and was essentially just bc it was the most recent album of hers when the new edition was published) of her 6 albums that were out at this point, i’d choose literally any of the other 5 to rep her over this, BTD or NFR being the obvious choices, Honeymoon being the inspired pick i’ll be listening to this one on vinyl of course 🙂‍↕️ it may be on the lower end of my Lana rankings but it’s still a really good project and it finally gave me Yosemite after having it teased for years faves: Yosemite, Chemtrails, Dark But Just a Game, Tulsa Jesus Freak 93/100

I have listened to a handful of Lana del Rey’s songs before, but never really thought she was a big deal. But I really liked this album. She has like a drowsy slow-paced vocal style, and for these songs it really works. After the first round I had to do another listen, and it really made me like the album even better. Favourites: Tulsa Jesus Freak, White Dress, Let Me Love You Like A Woman, Chemtrails Over The Country Club and Dance Till We Die.

A unique voice, I didn't expect to like it but someting deep down in me quite 'vibed' with it. Cleary the strongest part of this album is the power combined with a silk like voice Fav songs - White Dress, Chemtrails Over The Country Club 5/5

I actively chose not to listen to her for years. And now two albums in, I'm really digging her. 4.5/5

Hadn't listened to this one before, but felt like Born to Die / Paradise should be on here. Glad I gave it a listen, it's incredible.

As a Lana girlie maybe this is not the Lana album I would choose to include here (probably Born to Die i feel is her most iconic but it's a though choice, she has many greats: Honeymoon, Ultraviolence, Norman F Rockwell etc etc) but still! Chemtrails is a pretty solid album which i actually hadn't heard in its entirety until now!! Thank you Lana

This album sounds intimately gentle, and I love that.

Very few would argue Chemtrails is Lana Del Rey’s best album. Its highs don’t touch those of NFR! or Tunnel under ocean blvd or Born to Die. But each of those albums have some dud songs and Chemtrails has none. Also find me another artist writing lyrics like “down at the men in music business conference, down in Orlando, I was only 19. I only mention it because it was such a scene.” On its face a line like that is so jarring, so on-the-nose Lana Del Rey, but by the fourth or fifth time you hear her deliver it, it almost feels profound. To her it is.

There was a time when I mentally grouped Lana Del Rey in with myriad generic pop artists. I was very wrong. She’s fucking ace.

I’m a huge Lana fan, I’m a lover of sad girl music, but honestly I never listen to this one, I’m a big NFR guy and mainly stick with that one, so it was SO awesome to get to hear what felt like a NEW album from an artist I love during this project. Exactly what I wanted to hear from her. Sounds like a Xan’d out housewife getting a little into conspiracy theories. Strong week for this project so far (I say as I’m sure the monkey paw curls…)

melancholic; iconic

I wish Antonoff, Del Rey and Taylor Swift would collaborate on a whole album. Interviews with Del Rey are fascinating. Someone in complete control of themselves and their vision for the music. Very curious to see what she continues to make in the next decades.

I love Lana del Rey

I can even ignore all the cliches for the yearning

It’s not flashy or immediate, but it sinks in slowly and stays there, which makes it feel more rewarding the longer you sit with it.

Absolutely gorgeous.

Soft focus paranoia, privilege haze, and quiet unease drifting over manicured lawns. Rating: 4.3/5 Short Review: This album is Lana turning inward and lowering her voice instead of reaching for drama. It is muted, reflective, and intentionally restrained, which makes it feel intimate but also a little distant. Favorite Track: White Dress. Fragile, strange, and emotionally exposed in a way that almost feels uncomfortable.

What a treatttt i already know and love this album but will still relisten. It’s even better than I remembered honestly wow. dance till we die is phenomenal.

I like this album a lot, and look forward to listening to more of Lana Del Rey's material.

Mother

Listening to this album as the sun rises over the hills made my morning perfect. Sometimes you need Lana.

Perfect album!

One of the best albums on this list I think

Perfect rainy day album.

Listened to this on the drive to work on my last day at a seasonal job I absolutely loved, while realizing I didn’t get the winter job I was really looking forward too, on an overcast day. Absolutely perfect conditions for Ms Del Rey’s brand of melancholic nostalgia. I’d enjoyed her earlier stuff but fell off around Ultraviolence. Holy shit was this album good! Beautifully sung, beautifully arranged. The last two songs especially blew me away. Very surreal to hear The White Stripes and Kings of Leon being mentioned nostalgically. I guess I'm back to being a Lana Del Rey fan?!?

She's like a Disney princess :)

I’d been vaguely aware of Lana Del Rey for a good few years before this album came out but had never really paid her much attention, assuming her work just wasn’t aimed at me. A friend sent me a link saying, ‘Heard this? It’s quite good’. And that was all it took - from the opening few seconds I was utterly transfixed. This is an extraordinarily good record - the mood, that strained, intimate vocal delivery, the cinematic feel it conjures… It’s one of a handful of albums I’ll never tire of. An actual masterpiece.

So comforting, meloncholy. Reminds me of sad talks with my ex. Beautiful melodies

Her storytelling is so vivid that it almost reads as cultural criticism. It’s precise in its imagery but hard to pin down to a genre, geography, or time period. It’s the kind of music that evokes a strange patriotism in me. Not a political patriotism, but a patriotism rooted in an appreciation for the aesthetic minutiae endemic to American society. Fonts on road signs, vocal harmonies in the jingles of extinct department stores, that kind of thing.

Fantastic album. Lana Del Rey's voice is perfect yet again, and her range is in full force here. The album starts out with a breathy falsetto, then moves into probably the catchiest song with Chemtrails over the Country Club and her signature moody chest voice. The backing music is haunting and beautiful, and Lana's lyrics and vocals carry the album.

Never fully listened to this album and im wondefully suprised, her voice is like heaven and each of the songs manages to bring a unique sound that keeps me hooked. Very excited to listen again.

Lana tops the list, her ethereal soulful music that just hits your soul in a way never before

Wow, is Lana Del Rey my new favorite artist? She’s thoughtful and honest in her delivery and always seems to know exactly where the song should go. I love the embrace of pop beats as well.

I remember falling in love with Born To Die when that came out. I listened to it so many times, yet surprisingly never got round to listening to Chantal’s Over The Country Club until now. And what a beautiful album it is. It is very much in the same vain, but that works just fine for me. Lana’s voice is so pretty - both in the higher and lower registers. And the switch between these voices is faultless. This will definitely get many more listens from me.

Heel nice

I understand critique about the modernity of the album, but you gotta admit: it's great. Maybe some of you are just basic white males.

Mis favoritas: Dark But Just A Game y Breaking Up Slowly.

I should start out by saying I’m a borderline Lana Stan. Like, not to the crazy Twitter Stan™️ degree where I’m performing mental gymnastics to forgive toxic/problematic/outright conservative behavior– and trust me, with Lana, there’s a lot you have to ignore, and even then, sometimes (especially at the time I’m writing this, when she’s actively being transphobic to Ethel Cain), it does cross a personal line for me. Plus, I am a legitimate Stan of three other artists (Charli, Carly Rae, and Mariah) in a way that makes me feel like I have no right to put Lana in that category of committed adoration. But I can commit to separating the art from the artist for Lana, because I am a general huge fan her music on face value, and I have been since I was 19 and watched her bomb SNL. You can critique my tastes as a result, but I’m not going to pretend to be objective. So, when this came up on the generator, I freaked out with excitement, immediately knowing it would be a non-objective 5-star rating. Because I love Lana’s music. Simple as that. Still, this is only her third best album to me. It is, however, her most consistent, and a lot less dense than Norman Fucking Rockwell!, which makes it a more immediate pleasure to the ears. I also think this has a brevity to it that most of her discography lacks, which is to Chemtrail’s benefit. In fact, I’d argue that this is Lana’s strongest Side A, and her discography is generally filled with incredible first halves. Her problematic nature is also to Chemtrail’s benefit, where the nouveau riche conservativism– especially in that pandemic era– feels nearly performance art-esque on tracks like “Tulsa Jesus Freak,” “Let Me Love You Like A Woman,” “Dance Till We Die,” and, of course, the title track. While the Americana is not as interesting as it is on the hip-hop-meets-‘50s-vocal-pop of Born to Die [my favorite Lana album], it’s still very effective here. I also love that we get her pushing her style to its maximum, resulting is strange vocalizations and lyrics on “White Dress,” unexpected progressions on “Dark But Just A Game,” and country duets on “Breaking Up Slowly.” Unfortunately, this hard lean-in to folk-country is also this album’s Achilles Heel, as “Not All Who Wander Are Lost” and “Yosemite” both feel nearly clique and uninteresting. While I think this style is totally in-line with where Lana was always going to end up stylistically, the end result is a bit limp in the context of her general output, even if it’s still very good. I would say the same is true to a lesser extent on the closer “For Free,” although the real issue is that the features aren’t as tight as I would expect, which may be the point, but is distracting nonetheless. Whatever critiques I have of Chemtrails Over the Country Club, though, are kind of insignificant. They’re just a thin attempt to look objective when in reality I’m just a sucker for Lana, and a subjective dick rider. I have always really loved this record, and while it’s far from my favorite release either of 2021 or even from Lana herself, it still ranks high in both categories. It isn’t the Lana album I would’ve chosen, obviously, or even my second choice, but it’s still a very strong option and a very excellent record, and I’m still a massive fan of it, despite my nitpicks.

haven’t heard any Lana Del Ray yet so I decided to start from the beginning, and it’s actually pretty great! started with 8s for BtD and Ultraviolence, then a 10 for Honeymoon, a 9 for LfL, and then a 10/10 for Norman Fucking Rockwell and this! she really does have a unique sound that I can admire even if I’m not much of a pop fan, I can really appreciate her approach to it :)

Made me a fan instantly

not her best album but still very good

Can't believe this is on here. It's not my fave LDR album but it's still one of the best. If this is on here I bet NFR will be too. Listening to this during lockdown vs now.... Jesus I feel all the weird chills I was supposed to get. I think I appreciate it a lot more. FAVES: Chemtrails Over The Country Club Tulsa Jesus Freak Let Me Love You Like A Woman Not All Who Wander Are Lost Yosemite Dance Till We Die For Free

I really like Lana Del Rey but was initially surprised this album made the cut over Norman Fucking Rockwell. However, it was better than I remembered - I like the slight country twist she puts on her usual schtick - so now I just think they both should have been included.

Excellent

Not even Lana’s best album but still an easy 5 stars, love her voice and the atmosphere of the music

Beautiful song writing with dark vibey atmosphere

Yes please

"Norman Fucking Rockwell" and "There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard" are both unquestionable 5* albums. This one is just a 4.5+. Lana is underappreciated. 4.5+/5

MY BABYYYY I DIDNT EXPECT IT TO BE ON THIS LISt automatic 5 sorry if ur mad chemtrails + dbjag my fav songs

very great album, perfect voice, perfekt music

Second best Lana album, that should tell you all you have to know about it

Very relaxing to listen toz

What Taylor Swift should sound like.

Absolutely haunting, but in a weird sort of comforting way. I never really got the hype over Lana, but now I understand why she's so beloved. Very easy 5. (P.S. I almost cried during Wild At Heart.)

I’m at a 4.5 and I’m gonna yet again bump it up to a 5. Truthfully, I was really leaning towards a flat 4 for most of the album, and then something about the last 4 tracks just clicked incredibly well for me and I felt like I just had to bump it up. I obviously know who Lana Del Rey is, but I’ve never heard a single one of her albums in full – she’s been the pop star of the 2010s that I just never really connected to for one reason or another. I know some of her bigger singles, but I’m guessing that I was too focused on pop melodies and choruses to really appreciate her stuff to that degree when I was younger. I feel like I need to go back now, because I really did enjoy this a lot. There’s a lot of Jack Antonoff’s production quirks that permeate this album, and they’re incredibly noticeable on the tracks that sound distinctly like any of Taylor Swift’s more recent stuff. He has a style, and it does work, but I’ll be damned if it’s not starting to feel sterilized & homogenized across all the singers he works with. However, as the album moves on, settles in, and truly gets its identity across as a “this is how the industry can really fuck with your mental health” album, those production quirks sort of melt away, and I got really encapsulated by her writing and her vocals. God, her vocals are beautiful. Her writing is stellar too – lots of great one-liners throughout here, and really strong imagery. The only reason I was at a 4 for so long is because something felt sort of missing throughout the first 7 tracks of the album – just a little more edge in the vocals or the instrumentation that wasn’t quite there. The last 4 tracks won me over – they just feel like a fully cohesive fit, just one long package that finally kicks in some of that edge and strength that was a real joy to listen to, and properly won me fully over on the entire album. The last track in particular (the Joni Mitchell cover) just solidified it – it’s so thematically fitting to the album, and it just shows me she’s got a real mind for making albums, and not playlists. A lot of these tracks aren’t things you’d typically release as a single, and while a lot of them are “for the girlies,” there’s enough to admire here that I think anyone can pick it up and listen. So, yeah, I really enjoyed it. I gotta give it another listen to try and catch what I might’ve missed on the earliest tracks, but it’s a really, really nice album. It’s no less than a 4, I think. Maybe a 3 if you hate Jack Antonoff’s style, or modern production in general. I’m fine with bumping it up to a 5. As far as it being on the list, I do feel like it popped up a bit too soon – this is a 3-year-old album, but it popped up in the 2021 edition of the book, so I feel like it got its flowers very very quickly and probably bumped something equally as deserving (or maybe it bumped Haute de gamme, good riddance). However, I am glad it’s here if only because I’m selfishly happy I got to listen to it.

Look how i do this, look how i got this

I get it now

You either love Lana Del Rey or you don’t. I do. I can see why she is so polarizing. I love Norman Feaking Rockwell better, but I’m in love with her. She is always a mood listen, but I could listen to her anytime.

Really enjoyed this one. If you are in the mood, Lana is great. If you are not in the mood, she is boring. I was in the mood today.

I never listened to Lana much before, writing her off as "too sad", but I'm surprised at how much I liked this one. Her voice is quite lovely and the music is beautiful. But be warned, there's no upbeat songs on here so it's maybe not an everyday album

Oh my God is this a beautiful album. Easily the best one so far where I knew none of the tracks. Just plain gorgeous.

This was good, atmospheric, didn’t love every song but did pick a few favourites:wild at heart, CTOTCC and Breaking up slowly.

Not what I would normally listen to, but undeniably an incredibly well made and powerful album.

Enjoyed her sweet angelic voice.

fantastic

Ru kidding? 12/10.

i must spend the summer by the seaside to tend to my health whilst listening to this hauntingly beautiful album on repeat. never before has an artist's vibe matched their vocals so perfectly. the combination is ethereal and calming. it's morose yet relaxing. letting her music wash over you is a lovely experience. i find myself alternating between feeling emotional or being uplifted. and her songwriting! she's evocative in her descriptions and has the listener controlled in her grip.

LOVE THIS ALBUM

Iconic. Not the best Lana album, but great

DOWN AT THE MENINMUSICBUSINESS CONFREEEEEENCEEEE 😩😩😩 white hot foreverrrrrrrr and ever and ever amen 👌👌👌

Wonderful for wine naps

Very much enjoyed

So similar to Norman Rockwell. I think it was more cohesive but sonically so similar at times. I have been re-listening and it is growing on me more and more

In the hushed corridors of the exclusive country club, maid Eloise found solace in Lana Del Rey's haunting melodies. Her fingers danced across polished surfaces as the singer's voice whisked her away from the mundane. In the rhythmic cadence, she escaped the monotony of servitude, entering a dreamscape where troubles melted like wax. Lana's music became her secret refuge, a brief respite from the demands of the privileged. As the notes enveloped her, Eloise reveled in the delirium, a temporary escape from the stark reality she faced daily.

Great arrangements. Enjoyed the lyrics and her voice.

Always happy with Lana.

Echt ein geiles, getragenen, sphärische Album

I've only ever heard a couple of Lana Del Rey tracks, so wasn't sure what to expect. First listen was nice, but didn't set me alight. Second listen was even better, and I've just realised that I've had the record on repeat ALL DAY whilst working. Absolutely in love with the entire thing record. Beautiful stuff. Favourite tracks: all of them, honestly.

Lana Del Rey is my love.

I love Lana Del Rey. This album is amongst her greats.

Lana Del Rey's sense of melodies and utterly reality-bending vocals has so far peaked on Norman Fucking Rockwell!, but this one comes close. Her way of using her voice as an instrument, and the resulting attention to detail in producing and mixing it, is such a joy. Just let it roll over you in wave after wave.

For whatever reason I’ve never really dove into the world of Lana Del Rey until this forced me to do it. Did I have a premonition that it was boring? Was the hype too much? I don’t actually know. The fact is I finally listened to Chemtrails Over the Country Club now. And if you have an appointment with me in the next week I would like to apologize in advance, as I am busying digging through the rest of her discography. What an absolutely stunning record. I already had goosebumps from her vocal performance on “White Dress” and it just never let go from there. Also; Jack Antonoff is a huge part of this so of course it was foolish of me to doubt it all. I feel very stupid now. But also glad. Thank you, Lana.

As much as I like or even love *Chemtrails Over the Country Club*, Dimery and co. including the latter in their list and ignoring 2019's *Norman Fucking Rockwell* doesn't make a SHRED OF SENSE. Sorry for the capital letters, I know they're annoying, but here is one of the rare cases where I'm 100% sure I'm being "objective". Mad respect for Little Simz and Michael Kiwanuka (representing 2019 in the 1001 albums book), but it's obvious that Lana Del Rey's magnum opus is one or two notches over their own LPs. So you know what needs to be done here. Now that all of this is out of my system, a few words about *this* album, which followed that already "classic" record that *NFR* is. *Chemtrails...* is very good, even brilliant at time, especially on the first side. That weird pace or flow Lana uses for the chorus of opener "White Dress" is bold as fuck, for instance: "Downatah-menamusic-BIZ-ness conference". Jesus, what a trip, and what an evocative way to convey the hopes and awkward self-delusions of an anonymous waitress dreaming about breaking out in show-business--exactly who Lana was a few years before breaking out herself. Unless it's the "character" *Liz Grant invented to do so. Not that it takes anything to the song. After such a stellar introduction, the other tunes need to be good, and most of them are, fortunately, even if they're even more "one-note" overall compared to previous albums (a reproach folks who don't *really* listen to Del Rey's songs often throw at her--I should know: I was one of them before... And then i saw the light). The title track is enticing, seductive, and even a little eerie, for example. "Tulsa Jesus Freak" is somewhat cold and insensitive, in spite of the lush arrangements. "Wild At Heart" sounds like another instant classic (maybe referring to David Lynch's own pastiche in cinematic terms). And "Dark But Just A Game" uses off-kilter harmonic modulations to take its indolent groove to a whole other level. Producer and co-songwriter Jack Antonoff sure is a sly fox, just as he was for *NFR*, and his work is a perfect background for those stories and moods and tunes. It's because of those sort of details that Del Rey and Antonoff manage to transcend the seemingly unobtrusive nature of those songs. The result of of their common effort is a little less stellar on the second side, I admit it. Yet there's more than meets the eye on tracks like "Not All Those Who Wander Are Lost" or the surprisingly straightforward blues-rock of "Dance 'Til We Die". And that cover of Joni Mitchell's "For Free" with Weyes Blood, concluding the proceedings, is gracious and touching. The only problem with including Del Rey's *Chemtrails Over The Country Club* in my own list is that if I do so, I have no choice but to also include *Ultraviolence*, *NFR* and probably 2023's *Did You Know There's A Tunnel Under Ocean Boulevard* as well. Now do I want *four* Lana Del Rey's LPs in my list? Isn't that overkill, especially for such a recent (and controversial) artist? Only time will tell. But *Norman Fucking Rockwell* should be there for sure. That much I know. I give a 4.5 grade to this record, rounded up to 5, because I want at least *one* Lana Del Rey LP to appear on my "wall" of albums (and I can't do that with any other LP given that they're not in Dimery's list). But it's the first (and potentially *only*) time a 5/5 record ends up on my "waiting list". Next, please. Number of albums left to review: 439 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 263 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 134 (including this one) Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 168

A couple of years ago, Chemtrails was a bit of Lana Del Rey overkill: consistently high quality songs, but it felt more of the same. Now listening to it again in 2023, I can appreciate the album much better. There are more country influences and apart from the tittle song, the songs are overall less strong, but just a little, than the second half of Norman FR!, which is more inconsistent (but might still the best Lana del Rey album?) In any case, the Chemtrails album is a very strong addition the list. Score: 9/10.

When the album started, it actually made me cringe. The vocal delivery so breathy and high was not okay for me. However, it did not take long for me to get over that horror and really start enjoying that first track and the rest of the album. In fact, I kind of became obsessed with it.

Beautiful, unique voice.

When this started I was none too sure about the breathy delivery for a whole album… but there was still enough variety and the songs were beautiful and interesting, and I sort of got lost in this. Really nice to listen to and I ended up liking this a lot. It certainly is one of those albums that it will help to be an a certain mood to enjoy, but when in that mood very enjoyable it is!

8/10 - Surprisingly very good, not overly pop or country at all, reminds me of Adele

1. Not All Who Wander Are Lost Tulsa Jesus Freak Dance Till We Die Wild At Heart

I really dug this album. I look forward to seeking out others by her.

Bäst är White dress, Chemtrails over the country club, Tulsa Jesus freak, Let me love you like a woman och Yosemite

I liked this a lot. I love the ethereal vibe. This had way more depth than I was expecting. She's a very mature song-writer and has a great voice, with a lot of beautiful melodies and harmonies. It reminded me of a lot of the things I like about Laura Marling. I'll listen to more of her and won't group her in with 'average pop star' like I had been previously.

Man... Lana Del Rey is someone I always forget about but this is so good.

I liked it, but it's not quite Ultraviolence level to me. I love that album. It's a bit more sinister sounding and I like that.

Enjoyed this. Listened to it twice. Great voice

Beautiful but a bit too whispy throughout.

Prior to listening, I had heard of Lana Del Ray but was not really familiar with her music. Her voice is great and this is a pretty interesting album. She shows a good bit of range in her voice throughout, and the instrumentation is mostly understated but suits her voice well. Let Me Love You Like A Woman is stunning, my favorite from the album. The entire album is good, and I would listen again for sure.

This is one of my daughter's top 5 favorite artists, so I might have been listening to this with a bit more of an open ear than I otherwise would. That said, this album really surprised me as I have never listened to Lana Del Rey before and this was quite good. It's not the best thing ever, as the album isn't amazingly diverse in its sound, but the sound that is there is excellent. The title track is a great song, though my favorite off of this was Yosemite. It had almost a haunting sound, at least to me. I also really liked Dark But Just a Game and a few others. She's a talented artist no doubt, with a breathy voice that is very capable across multiple octaves. 4 stars.

Enjoyed this, she has such a unique way of writing a song, their is a lot of humour and emotion in almost every line. My only issue is that their are times in the album that it gets a little bit boring, but i think the big tracks make up for this.

I've known about Lana Del Ray for a long time now, but I'm surprised I never heard her music anywhere. In the first track "White Dress" she's doing these whisper vocals where she almost doesn't have enough air supporting to get the words out, and I was like "eh, I'm not really sure about this". But it got much better after that. It's atmospheric and moody. I ended up liking it a lot.

it's a pretty good album, overall. don’t know how autobiographical it is at times, but not hard to believe these are truish stories

It’s not my favorite album of hers, but these are strong songs that really grow on you the more you listen.

Venice Bitch.

Lana really can be fantastic and her work over the past decade or so has been incredible. I think I had missed this one when it was released even though Norman Fucking Rockwell was my favorite album of 2019. This is another stunner from her.

Pleasantly surprised

As a self-professed Lana Del Rey fan, I'm kind of floored that this is the only album of hers to make the list. (I think.) Born To Die, NFR, Ultraviolence... and you pick Chemtrails? Don't get me wrong, this is good, but ask any fan and it's far from Lana's best or most influential material. My main criticism of Lana is that she glorifies a dated bourgeoisie American lifestyle that, at best, is very difficult to relate to unless you're a woman in that exact environment. (Which I suspect is most of her listener base. But I digress.) The cover of Chemtrails heavily sacrifices the artistry of earlier albums in favor of... hmm. A black-and-white photo of Lana with her friends. For 2021, you could do a heck of a lot better. The music on this record is also missing a lot of spark, and instrumental diversity, that earlier albums like Born To Die and Ultraviolence boast. Instead, it takes the "NFR route" of using mostly piano ballads, except they're distinctly less memorable than those on NFR. But then, NFR is one of my favourite albums of all time, so the competition is steep. Time for Lana Defense Mode. Someone else here criticised her, writing that "she knows how to make a melody anti-catchy". Actually, this album featured some of her most interesting melodies of her discography up to that point. The hooks of White Dress and the title track are pretty darn memorable. Other reviews drag her through the mud for releasing essentially 11 melancholic ballads under the guise of a proper album (which, almost by definition at this point in musical history, needs to be some showcase of variation). Probably a fair critique here, although there's more to music than just the tempo and mood-at-a-passing-glance. Plus, in songs like Dance Till We Die and Not All Who Wander Are Lost, several different moods are crammed into one fairly convincing piece of art. Tulsa Jesus Freak reads like part 2 of "Fuck it I love you", and dang it, it's hard to dislike. Even though the overproduction seeps through a bit. And then Let Me Love You Like A Woman and Wild At Heart are both just "Mariners Apartment Complex" with different lyrics. Seriously. The (chorus) chord progression and textural choices are identical. And honestly, I don't care at all. This stuff slaps. There are zero bad tracks. Admittedly there are few (if any) that could be categorised as "classics", limiting the record's staying power. 4/5 Key tracks: Chemtrails Over The Country Club, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Let Me Love You Like A Woman

Great album. Love her voice.

I really like Lana Del Ray, I have her first few albums and they are very good. But sometimes I do find it hard to keep up with some artists due to the sheer volume of material released and free time to listen to it. So like all of her records from the last few years, I have not listened to it until this opportunity arose. Her vocals are as usual mournful, sung clearly with the songs paced on the slow side - good start. It was described as 'folky Americana', normally two words which make me run for the hills (as long as the hills don't have Deliverence style people living there), but my fears were unfounded. This may have been based in that style, but with the LDR twist, nice slow, miserable and above all very well executed set of tunes. I shall be giving this a spin again soon.

I surprised myself by how much I liked this. Haven’t paid much attention to Lana since Video Games which irritated me no end. This is good though. The first few tracks are rather lovely and work really well with her voice. The story telling is good too. Point knocked for getting a bit samey towards the end. Could probably have done with a couple less tracks. Definitely conjures up a mood

Top 3 album of hers for me

I was not familiar with your game!

I will admit that I wrote this artist off as just copying a certain kind of style with no depth, but this album showed me that there is much more substance to her style.

I've listened to this before, but today it hit different. First of all, Lana really doesn't miss and this album might even be her most consistent. It lacks maybe a little ingenuity as Lana seems to be leaning into song writing, modern lyrical themes and her signature beautiful melodies VS complex arrangements. I need this on vinyl.

Not my vibe. Can respect the songwriting and appeal but I have never caught onto the Del Rey style.

insert Amish Kim Kardashian here

Astonishingly good album. Why did no one tell me that she was this funny? Gorgeous, weird ass compositions. Silly ass music, but every song was also gorgeously sculpted. Standout tracks: White Dress, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Not All Those Who Wander. 4.2

Sublimely soporific.

It’s no Born to Die (the superior Lana album), but it’s still pretty good. Let me Love You Like a Woman is definitely the standout track, but if you’re just trying to vibe to Lana ballads, it’s not a bad album

I’m surprised to see this particular LDR album on the list. I would’ve gone for ‘NFR!’ (for the quality) or ‘Born to Die’ (for the influence) myself. Time to put my LDR defender armor on. So while I don’t think this is as good as ‘NFR!’, it’s still a super solid album from the middle of LDR’s hot streak. She’s fully in her singer-songwriter mode, writing honestly while also spinning her own threads of the American mythos. It’s spacious and slow, letting her words and vocal performance come to the center. Her use of her upper register sets this album apart from the rest of her discography, where she’s largely favored her lower range. Whatever! I love it! She’ll be weird and touchy online forever but all I ask is that she keeps putting out good to great records. And I think this is one of the great ones. Sue me. Strong, muscular four stars. (I’d give it five, but alas I know what a five star LDR album sounds like.)

I don't really go for slow, languid dreamy pop, but I've always liked Lana Del Rey. It probably helps that she sounds like the permanent artist-in-residence at the nightclub in every David Lynch movie. Hadn't heard this one before but loved it like all the others of hers I'm familiar with and/or own.

She has a really good voice, with some annoying autotune in there, and it was interesting to hear the instruments just lingering in the background, like they are far away.

Taylor swift for pitchfork readers

I like Lana del Rey. I hate that she got stick for pretending that her background was something else than it was. Though I suppose Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Bruce Springsteen and a whole host of others got that backlash too. Oh wait … As for this it’s ok. I think Lana only needs one album. The one with the big hit should be it. Another inessential must listen. 3

Better than other Lana albums I’ve heard, has some interesting elements

I love LDR, but I'm surprised this album made it onto the list, rather than one of her first two, which I'd assume are a bit more culturally relevant.

The first half is a 5 for me but the second half is a 4 and I'll round down. It's all very calming and lends itself to introspection. That being said the first few tracks have a subtle power to the arrangements, even if the instrumentation is pretty minimal. I enjoy Lana's voice throughout, both in its breathy high pitched moments and the more childlike timber. If you like your pop on the folkier side, this may be for you, but don't expect radio hits. Favorites: White Dress, Chemtrails, Tulsa Jesus Freak, Dark But Just A Game.

te amo lana

What a beautiful voice, and Woman. Nice change of pace. Compare this kind of music to yesterday's Cypress Hill. LOL. no, don't.

This album draws me in with a combination of a beautiful voice and unique lyrics.

For awhile, teetered between Lana cosplaying as moody-artist or authentic. Still don’t know, but I also don’t cared. I enjoyed this quite a lot! Does the sound deviate much? Probably not. But she has a way of captivating the listener. Does everyone feel that way? Probably not. End of quizzical analyzation.

I have been wanting to do a deep dive on Lana Del Rey. I enjoyed this album and want to hear more

Not even a top 3 Lana album but iconic in its own way

More like a 3.5

Lana Del Rey is someone I've never really given much thought. But this is pretty good! I thought she would be classified as pop, but this feels more like alternative rock. I wouldn't say rock in the classic sense, but more that it is subdued, strummy guitar with simple accompaniments. This is almost jazzy, but not fast paced - it's hard to describe with my current vocab. Her voice is definitely the central focal point, but the instrumentals are all solid. It feels like something that would hear from a live band in a speak easy.

Beautiful , loved it. No major bops, but great package overall

Surprisingly good.

I wonder why they picked this album. I like her voice.

I feel like there should be a word for this phenomenon in which an artist has an obvious "best" work that outshines all their other albums, to the point you can't discuss any of their albums without stating "But anyway, this is not better than X[their best work]" This sucks when we're having a conversation because often time the focus point would be narrowed down to "X better." For Lana Del Rey, that album is "Norman F Rockwell!" Dreamy vibes, piano rock ballads, and Lana's signature "so ridiculous it's borderline hilarious yet it's also oddly poetic" lyrical style, that album seems to have it all. This one continues in that direction. So of course it inherited the critical acclaim from the media. In online spaces, it is not as well received as NFR. --------------------------------- I consider myself a fan of NFR. I wrote all of the above when I was listening to track two. I was gonna end this review with a half-ironic conclusion that boils down to "NFR better." However as I proceeded down the tracklist, I found myself drawn to the sound of this one. The melodies are pleasant. The lyrics are as funny as ever, but Lana's distinct voice makes it sound cool. This album also carries on the melancholy atmosphere of "NFR!" Granted, it's basically what Lana is most known for, but I wasn't expecting it to be executed just as excellently because a.)This album is not as celebrated in online circles. b.)NFR falls in the realm of that soft piano rock genre, while this one contains more folk influences. No wonder so many artists try to copy something from Lana, there is indeed something special in her. Usually I'd love to complain about how the albums in this list is not even the chosen artist's best work. With "Cemtrails Over the Country Club," that isn't the case. While I still consider NFR to be Lana's best, I don't understand why this is considered a much inferior record by people on the internet. Unless it grows off me heavily in the near future (which seems unlikely), I would say this is her best right after NFR!

(6/7) sad girl sings nice

I can't believe that I gave it this score with the word 'country' associated to it.

Admittedly, the allure of Lana Del Rey has consistently escaped me. Her voice is great but I have always found her to be a little one-note. This record was an awesome intro for me into her work as a wholistic piece. She is the star of the show and there is no doubt about it. The understated musical accompaniment is often lost behind her soft croon. The lyrical content of her work covers introspection ranging from takes on love, heartbreak, the frivolity of fame, and the frustration of finding it. I was mesmerized by the casual presentation of her work, warts and all. At times rasping and crackling her way and at others soaring through her songs. This was fantastic and fun. My only criticism is that which started my review: there was one moment where she ripped along a pronounced guitar but otherwise stayed reserved throughout. That’s a stylistic choice but I’d like to have had a few more moments of surprises throughout an another wise great listening experience.

It was really bare. I wish points got bigger. Would be nice with her voice. I like some of the lyrics.

I know people hate on this album because it's very similar sounding but I loved it all. I appreciate each of the songs more on their own since when you listen to it as a full album they kinda blend together. Lanas voice is stunning. this album was very angelic. 7/10

Luv have been listening for years so already knew

Maybe it's me - but Lana Del Rey feels like an artist that is polarizing? Maybe I'm wrong? But I dig her. Her songs are journeys and she has as unique way of telling stories in these songs.

VERY GOOD sad girl background music.

Since I had little expectation, I found it surprisingly good!

This is the first time I listen to Lana Del Rey with intention and I have to admit she's not bad. The whispery singing isn't something I particularly care for but she has a deep, powerful voice and her lyrics are equal parts tragic and beautiful.

Her voice >.<

Everything sticks to the same theme, and I like Lana Del Rey.

Good - was already a fan of title track

Not the Lana album I would have chosen for 1001 Albums, but you can't deny how incredible her voice and songwriting are, so this album still gets a 4 from me.

Liked this more than I thought I would. Pretty vocals and amusing lyrics.

Anytime I find myself listening to a Lana album I feel torn. A part of me is always like "there's just something about it" while another part of me is like "yeah but there's something about it" and I can never settle on a feeling.

Lana's unique expressive vocals together with her descriptive lyrics tell stories which give the listener an insight into her life.

I’ve listened to Lana Del Rey albums throughout her career but missed this one. I actually do think this is the most enjoyable of the ones I’ve listened to though I’m not sure it should be here.

This one looks like trash. We'll see. Update: it's not. It's pretty great actually. My prejudices, this time of contemporary pop music, aren't the right way to go through life. This was pretty damn enjoyable.

Moody and mellow but lovely to listen to with gentle waves of instrumentation that blend in and out. Another artist I’m aware of but don’t particularly follow with so will look forward to listening to more.

Well it’s not my style but I loved the vibe, a little bit boring at the beginning but it starts getting catchy. Love you lots like polka dots 😝

Casually moody. Felt like a rainy afternoon with nothing but a bottle of wine and a bottle of Xanax. Great vocal performance. Wish the instruments were a little more forward in the mix but that’s a nitpick.

This was a good album, but not as strong as NFR in my opinion.

This album was quintessential Lana Del Rey. I very much enjoyed revisiting this album after not listening to it for a few years or so at least. I generally enjoy and like everything that Lana puts out and have had the pleasure of seeing her live in concert twice. Overall, I think this is a great album by Lana and I will definitely be listening to it again in the future!

It was surprising but I actually liked this one a good bit more than the other Lana we did. Maybe it was that it was a bit shorter, maybe I was in a more forgiving mood but I enjoyed the vibe this created.

Fucking love Lana Del Rey. She's right up there with Leonard Cohen. Don't like this one as much as Ocean Blvd, but it's still wonderful.

Pretty awesome album, made even better on a flight leaving California. I haven’t heard a lot of Lana’s deeper cuts and this album opened my eyes- a lot of great songs like “Let me love you like a woman” and “Yosemite” The instrumentation was also great - a lot of subtle sounds creating ambience that fades in an out with Lana’s voice a mainstay

I honestly didn’t expect to like this album as much as I did. Thought I would find it boring since I was put off a bit by the first song, but the rest really surprised me. It reminded me a bit of evermore by Taylor Swift so it made a lot of sense once I found out this was also produced by Jack Antonoff. Very nice folk feel throughout. Tough to say if it should be on this list given how recent it is, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

i'm not a real gay man because i really haven't listened to much lana del rey until now. with a central theme of disillusionment, nostalgia, and deep emotions under grace and elegance. many people in the youtube comments of these tracks share their own stories, especially about their relationships and reflections about time spent. it's very atmospheric, a certain kind of sound, especially when you have these pretty guitars and a beautiful, breathy voice often sounding blunt, tired and moody. a lot of tracks blend in, but the concept is very strong. it's like the memoir of a 50s housewife who's fed up with the universe.

Look I love her to death but apparently this is the only Lana album on the list, which is just….. why???? Why THIS one? There are songs here that are so so important to me and then there are others where I totally get the haters. It’s kind of funny to have got this so close to Christmas, because last Christmas I went through a really big Lana phase and in particular was listening to White Dress A LOT. Not particularly festive haha, idk what was going on with me at the time. Chemtrails is still a 4 for me even though it’s nowhere near her best.

Men let's go ändå.

feels like girlhood mixed with womanhood. a sexy fairy if you will.

I liked this. Kinda ethereal, nice harmonies.

So very breathy. And did she come from a small town, perhaps? But somehow, I still enjoyed it.

Very Lana, but I really enjoyed her moodiness more than I thought I would!

#181/1001. Lana Del Rays music is the equivalent of post coital quality time. It is the smell of coffee made from freshly ground beans. It is slipping under cool satin bedcloth. The feeling on your skin and scent of a day in the morning when you know the day will be warm. A jump of a single fish in a pond. You know, those feelings and sensations which are irrelevant for survival, but which make life worth living, but which also could be replaced with a ton of other sensations. Very few do it with their music though.

it's slow and somewhat mellow, so it's mood dependent. But i likey

Really unusual and different in this era of manufactured female singers

Worth re-listening

Where Lana starts to become a major album artist.

This is perfect example of the double edged sword this challenge presents. I've been a casual fan of Lana for a long time. This album, if I were 20, would be committed to memory immediately. It's brilliant and heartfelt. I will remember that I loved it, but forget to come back to it because there are so many other albums out there. Could I commit to it like I did with Liz Phair 40 years ago? Sure, if I wanted to. But I won't. Doesn't take away this mornings listen though. It's great.

I've never given Lana Del Rey a real chance before. I was surprised by how much I liked this one. I could get into this vibe.

Like another reviewer said, a bit of a one-trick-pony on this album, but it's pleasant enough and I'm glad to have given it a shot. Bumping to 4 stars because it breaks the mold of the other classic/brit/pop rock albums on the list.

Lana Del Rey albums are summer listens, not autumn listens, but setting the timing aside this is still a fun album. Not my favorite of hers, but I enjoyed listening to it.

Not a ton of range, but boy do I enjoy this. I think on a repeat listen I could get super duper into this.

Listened to it on the drive home from Birmingham. Thais fell asleep. Music was quite chill & acousticy - chill vibes

I buy it. Deeply stylized music but still feels like her own. Her voice and overall mood are great. All other parts of the album are competent and quite good. It won't be 5 because it lacks this something to grasp my heart but I'm amazed with competent prodcution that builds perfectly on strong parts of the singer and never falling below some standard to distract you from good things.

Great sounds, introspective lyrics, this is good music, but it’s no my cup of tea.

I've not listened to this album before. I like Lana del ray when I hear her songs. oh yes I know this first song. I enjoyed it, good sounds good stories, I will listen to all the other ones too

I think Chemtrails Over The Country Club is the best song on this album and it's great.

I like Lana and absolutely think she deserves at least one spot on the list. I do not understand why this would be on here over NFR though, but it seems like the list never gets newer albums right

I enjoyed it. But it does not have enough disparity in sound to be something I go back to. There are definitely 3 or 5 standout songs. So I give it 3.75

Breaking Up Slowly gets me every.damn.time. Lyrically, I love the hell out of this album.

I’m not usually a Lana fan, but “breaking up slowly” and the writing on this album won me over

man she's got some good vocals. its a little too sad sounding for me overall but it doesnt hinder her performance, plus its just part of her aesthetic I'm sure. Pretty good entry that gives you something to think of after its done.

I had a snarky review written after the first song, but I deleted it as the album went on. This is a pretty darn samey album, but ya gotta admit that Lana Del Rey does that one thing very well. A very enjoyable listen.

I like Lana

This is one that shows my glaring lack of knowledge about new music. I remember a few years ago when LDR was announced for Glastonbury there was talk that she was too pop for the festival. This was the only time I’ve ever heard of her so when this generated I was expecting something along the lines of Katy Perry or Britney. I was very wrong. I can’t really fault this. I enjoyed every song and her voice is brilliant. Maybe if I’m nitpicking, while I did enjoy every song, there isn’t that track that I absolutely love. Then again I’ve only listened to it once so something might grow on me later. Top Track - Chemtrails Over The Country Club

I enjoyed this

Lana Del Rey is an artist I've been thinking about listening to since her debut. She's a critic's darling, and that's usually enough for me to at least give a listen. Other than a song here or there, I've never really given her a try. This album started with what me and my girlfriend thought was the weakest song, her vocals very strained and off-putting. The next two songs were improvements, but not interesting enough other than the lyrics. Then the album kicks into a different gear (metaphorically only) with Let Me Love You Like A Woman. We both loved the song, and then the next and then the next. It was a consistent very good to great song after that. We both wish it was sequenced differently, and it might have made a close to excellent album. Ultimately an enjoyable listen and there is now a desire to listen to more of her music.

The perfect end to a sad girl summer.

Lana Del Rey has always felt an anachronism, leaning into an imagined mid-century America — suburban housewives, surface glamour, hidden depression. It’s all a bit Great Gatsby (or Mad Men if you hate books): doomed romance and longing for a golden age that may never have existed. But, she sets her stories among ordinary people, which I like (as I do the album cover with her sitting with her mates, which speaks to a certain humility). Musically, the album is understated rather than boundary-pushing. But it closes with its strongest moment: ‘For Free,’ a Joni cover featuring the great Weyes Blood. It not only does justice to the original but also crystallises what the whole record aims for. Since Honeymoon (2015), Lana has been on a run of highly praised albums, and I'm not sure what sets this one apart particularly. I will listen to the others. When I get the chance in 2027. A very strong album. One with layers. I think a three is harsh, so it's a just-four.

its lana

I had only heard Lana Del Rey on the Taylor Swift song Snow on the Beach, which I think maybe be Taylor's best song. This album grew on me. Wasn't into the singles at the beginning. I thought Wild At Heart and through the B Side was good though. Last song sounded like Laura Nyro. Good songwriting

Quite enjoyed this. Relaxing without being horing.

Enjoyed this! And I suspect that she has a couple more that might be even better! Simpsons: No

Loved this album. Knew some of the songs before and am a Lana Del Ray fan but this I was driving at night and the back half of this album was a magical, beautiful listen.

I’m familiar with a few of her albums, but I must have skipped this one. I think she’s a little of a one-trick pony, but it worked for me here.

My perfect baby

I have another hypocritical conundrum. A few days ago I had a Sinead O'Connor album and I called it slow and boring. It.was. I should by rights say the same about this? And even worse she played the diva at Glastonbury last year, turned up over half hour late and got the plug pulled pissing off everyone who waited for her. But no. There's something about LDR I like. I don't know why. She has a dreamy voice and I like her songs. And having seen her live I like her act too. She's been called in some reviews a one trick pony. But I like her trick. 4.

Well damn... had a review written, but my computer took a shit before I saved. Of the more recent Lana albums, I'm surprised to find this one on the list. While this is a fine enough album it lacks the punch of its immediate predecessor, Norman Fucking Rockwell! Between the two albums I'd say there is a decent amount of stylistic overlap, but NFR takes the cake in terms of end-to-end execution. Easily one of the top 10 albums put out in the past decade. I'll say that listening through this album again today I am taken again by its simple beauty. Many songs are rooted around a simple piano line and rely on vocal layering and effects to great effect. White Dress with simple breathy, whispered vocals; Let Me Love You Like A Woman with its ghostly echo layering... And while I enjoy this as a whole, it certainly loses steam and my attention through the back half. Favorites on here are the title track, Let Me Love You Like A Woman, and Tulsa Jesus Freak. Enjoyed the listen as always, but as always, I'm left longing for the magic that is NFR. Here's to hoping that that album gets a deserving place on this list. For now, this is a soft 4 to my ears.

Our most recent album so far! First song started off really weird with some super breathy singing which I hated. Album got much better with actual singing and some beautiful instrumentals. Very enjoyable album after the first song, a lower 4 probably. Bonus note for that random song that had a big bass drop which was completely unexpected

Lana Del Rey: Chemtrails Over The Country Club: More chill than the pop I usually like, but honestly this is a pretty good album. The songs are pretty cool, relaxing, yet emotional, and very well composed. Her voice is beautiful, which helps a lot. Could use some variety or a little more energy, but I enjoyed this. 8.25/10

I love Lana, my personal favourites are NFR and Did You know there's a tunnel under ocean boulevard, which I hope gets added in latter additions.

Oh I really loved this. I’ve listened to plenty of her songs but had not made my way through a whole album. The songs are gorgeous and often moving (you can hear the Jack Antonoff of it) but avoid the obvious pop choices for more surprising ones.

Slow arranged songs.

"Chemtrails Over The Country Club" is quite a young album, 4 years old as I write, and it is not an immediate album when you first listen to it. You have to want to listen to Lana Del Rey. For new comers or casual listeners of Lana Del Rey I would recommend "Norman Fu*cking Roswell" or "Ultraviolence". The latter album especially if you a fan of Rock music. "Chemtrails Over The Country Club" was the release after "Norman Fu*cking Roswell" and is a departure from the sound and style of that album. It is a much more subtle listening experience, lush sounding, atmospheric and introverted. Beautiful. It is a very good album, that provides a consistent and rewarding listening experience, but only after a few listens. 4⭐ Would I listen to this album again? Yes. Would I buy this album? I did. 1 "White Dress" - Lovely opening song. High, breathy vocals, delicate and vulnerable. - 5 2 "Chemtrails over the Country Club" - Lush melodies coupled with Lana Del Rey’s melancholic voice. It has a soaring chorus. It sounds great. - 5 3 "Tulsa Jesus Freak" - 4 4 "Let Me Love You like a Woman" - 4 5 "Wild at Heart" - Great orchestrations, beautifully sung. Wonderful chorus, that builds dramatically. - 5 6 "Dark but Just a Game" - 4 7 "Not All Who Wander Are Lost" - 4 8 "Yosemite" - I really like this song. The chorus is great. Lush harmonies. - 5 9 "Breaking Up Slowly" - 4 10 "Dance Till We Die" - 4 11 "For Free" - 4 Total - 48 Average - 4.36

Can a white girl just be a little bit sad

Smooth

Great LDR vocals

Here's an artist name I hear all the time without ever knowing what she sounds like. I assumed it would be much more poppy than it was. I actually thought this was quite lovely and more in-line with something like Joni Mitchell or Carole King. I like this. 3.66/5

Chill, smooth, bit her best but liked it all the same

Great album for a sunny winter's Saturday afternoon at home to just chill out.

Delicate and beautiful The title track is an incredible showcase of minimalistic accompaniment to a haunting voice

Ive loved watching her progression, the addition of Jack Antonoffs production skills took her to another level.

Luscious pop

Great opening tracks, but drops away after. Bit of a disappointment after how great NFR was, but never bad. 3.5*

reina y madre

The queen of American kitsch. Not her best album, but still more than worth a listen.

I like this. A little generic, but she's obviously very talented, and I enjoyed a few of these songs a lot.

Incredible funk

Louisiana two step high and bright We won't stop dancin' 'til we die ;_;

Lana’s voice and the instrumentation create a very lush sound over which she expresses some very deep lyrics. Let Me Love You Like A Woman is an early standout. I like the variety in vocal delivery and the different, but related, topics of each song. Not All Who Wander Are Lost speaks to a sense of wanderlust and not conforming to someone else’s idea of you, while Breaking Up Slowly is not a breakup song but a song about breaking up when a relationship is not healthy anymore.

It’s probably been about 15 years since I last listened to a Lana Del Rey album, and even though I’m not really a fan of her music, this was still a cool listen. It blends folk and Americana with indie pop and dream pop. The foundation is rooted in organic folk and Americana, but there’s also this nostalgic, ethereal atmosphere running through the album that brings out the dreamy, almost otherworldly element.

Cool vibe. Enjoyed this

8.5/10

I like Lana Del Rey's languorous voice. I enjoyed this album, though I don't think it's her best - I like NFR or There's a Tunnel more. Solid four stars.

Lovely, moody, unique…always love me some Lana Del Rey.

A bit one-note…but I’m a sucker for this kind of boring music I guess

Fun. Good trance music. 4/5

Not my favorite of hers but still a rang good album

Nice album, like LdR.

A really good album, I liked White Dress, Tulsa Jesus Freak and Let Me Love You Like A Woman the most. I love listening to Lana Del Rey.

I listened to this album once when it came out, but never returned to it until it came up on the generator today. It is a solid album, but I think recency bias must have landed it on this list instead of stronger options from Lana's catalog. That said, I will be more likely to listen to it again after this second runthrough. There are some beautiful, melancholy tracks on this album. Was nice to hear Weyes Blood on the "For Free" cover, as well--lovely! Standout tracks: White Dress, Dark But Just A Game, Yosemite

A nice noise. Bit breathy in the vocal delivery and light on hooks, but nevertheless a very pleasant listen.

Well-intentioned. Sweet.

I liked it a good bit more than I expected. Well crafted, atmospheric dream pop.

A fantastic voice over some soothing and soulful tracks.

Not my favorite Lana album but still a good listen

I started trying to check out Lana Del Rey’s music about six months ago. I hadn’t got around to Chemtrails Over The Country Club yet so getting this album was perfect timing. First, is this considered sad girl music? I don’t say that disparagingly because I wound up liking this album. Lana has a distinctive vocal style that I do mostly enjoy. The airy voice in parts of White Dress weren’t my favorite. I also got a bit of a Joni Mitchell vibe from Del Rey on this album but where Joni would lose me, Lana is able to pull me in. There were only two songs on Chemtrails that I wasn’t too crazy about, White Dress and Yosemite. But, they wouldn’t stop me from playing the whole album in its entirety. In fact, I ran through Chemtrails Over the Country Club twice because I was so intrigued. The really strong material by Lana got me to give this album a four rating. 4/5

We were slightly negative going into this that it wasn't Born To Die, but actually have now completely changed our minds. We really enjoyed this: it's a very cohesive, atmospheric album.

Soothing.

Wonderful music by a very talented musician

He estado apunto de ponerle 5 ⭐

Balladen, Schöne Musik, schöne Stimme

listened to again smooth and silky

Firstly, I am objecting to this album's inclusion on the list for one reason, that it released too recently IMO. Feel like there should be a minimum of 5 years wait after an album releases before it gets added. Even in the rare case when an album comes out of the gate that's a clear instant classic (Nevermind, for example), waiting five years won't kill it. 99% of the time, there's no way you can judge an album's impact or influence on release. And this album got added in the 2021 edition too, so went on immediately. That said, still a great record, and Lana Del Rey definitely belongs on the list eventually. I slightly prefer Norman Fucking Rockwell!! as far as Lana albums go, but this still has great tracks. Breaking Up Slowly is great. Dance Till We Die has a fun little portion towards the end that breaks up the slow/chill vibe in a good way. Not a ton to say about it though, it's just good.

Favorite Track: Let Me Love You Like A Woman

I've been typically lukewarm on Lana Del Rey, although sometimes the big sweeping songs like "Ride" have swept me up. So I've never listened to a full album of hers until now. This was very impressive. Her voice was interesting as she moved from the highs to the lows. I'm still not convinced she's a good singer, but many of my favourite singers aren't technically good singers. The music and the production of some of the songs is nuanced and subtle, but still engaging. And the inclusion of "For Free", not exactly the best-known Joni Mitchell song, made me emotional. A fantastic conclusion to the album, tying together the themes and subjects of the songs that came before.

I liked it

A very pleasant beautiful album. Based in its genre - Folk / Country Folk / Americana - I didn't think that I would like it, but I did.

I liked it a lot. In fact, I think I liked every song on the album. Nothing groundbreaking or revolutionary but just a pleasant experience. I have found that I really enjoy americana. I'll have to dig into the lyrics more but so far - 4/5!

Surprised that this is the Lana Del Rey album they picked. Regardless I enjoyed it and she has definitely been influential for that sad indie pop sound

ok I’m actually into it
