Reviews (page 7 of 11)

As not the hugest White Stripes fan, I did actually find myself enjoying this more than I'd anticipated. I've never been a huge fan of Jack White's vocal delivery, specifically, which resembles this classic, bluesy, and hard-rock Robert Plant type thing, but it works on a few of the songs here still, complemented by some pretty engaging production. I find the album is at its best when Jack's on these faster-paced and more aggressive songs. 'Sixteen Saltines' is maybe the best thing I've heard out of either him or the White Stripes - everything from the ever-changing structure, that sharp yet simple riff, his vocal phrasing, and the monster-like depiction of this woman in the lyrics makes this one hell of a song. The following 'Freedom At 21' contains another one of my favorite Jack performances on here, and again, the lyrics here are just about as dirty as the production. Unfortunately, a bunch of the songs after this first incredible run still fall into this very repetitive and uninteresting White Stripes soft-blues rock territory, especially near the middle. It's not until 'Weep Themselves To Sleep' that I find Jack plays to his strengths (or my idea of his strengths at least) again, with this very dramatic piano-driven piece. And I honestly really liked 'Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy' and its cutesy keys, it feels out of place, but it works oddly well - it ever-so-slightly reminds me of mid-2000s Modest Mouse. Certainly pretty enjoyable, more so than I find The White Stripes; it's more interesting in almost every way. But Jack's style is generally just not my thing, so my enjoyment of this guy's music remains limited.

Typical mid rock. Not bad, not amazing

Wish they had 1/2 star options as this would be 3 1/2. I am generally a fan of his work, but this one did not hit me like the others.

I like, it’s cool

Track 1 - Missing Pieces Very nice and satisfying guitar work, love the instrumentals as a whole, feels really bluesy with the keys, really like this one Track 2 - Sixteen Saltines Holy shit the instrumentals go hard, would like a bit more passion and soul Track 3 - Freedom at 21 Not a huge fan of how Jack sings this, pretty cool lyrics Track 4 - Love Interruption Definitely catchy, keys are nice, feels like it's lacking a bit of oomph in the instrument department Track 5 - Blunderbuss Nice strings, I like the lyrics, most passion from Jack so far, Jack does this thing where he cuts the instrumental sings a line then kicks it back in, it's cool the first few times but it gets a bit annoying seeing as a lot of the composition is pretty good. Track 6 - Hypocritical Kiss Nice piano once again, feels like it's going somewhere and then stops again, fits Jack's voice Track 7 - Weep Themselves To Sleep Theme of nice piano, quite intense, lyrics are kinda cringe, back to bluesy which is nice Track 8 - I'm Shakin I like the backing vocals, some of my fave vocals, why does he say nervous like that Track 9 - Trash Tongue Talker Lost me a bit, really nice piano as per, doesn't jump out at me enough Track 10 - Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Very cool drums, doesn't make me feel all that much Track 11 - I Guess I Should Go To Sleep Nice bass at the start, not the hugest fan of the vocals, Track 12 - On And On And On Fitting title for the back half of this record, cool bass, something just feels off, kinda boring Track 13 - Take Me With You When You Go Doesn't feel distinct from the rest of the album, oo this is pretty cool now, don't like the vocals, love the guitar Jack White feels like he's trying to not replicate the sound from The White Stripes but I feel he should've gone the extra mile, he is incredibly talented musically as shown by the composition of a lot of the songs but the album just feels quite repetitive in terms of lyrics and themes, lots of wasted potential here but the album is absolutely saved by Jack's talent. 6/10

A good start to jack’s solo career. While it doesn’t touch any of his white stripe material in my opinion, there are some solid rockers on this record. Proof he could stand out on his own.

pretty good!! been listening to this a lot, but might be biased bc he has a song with beyonce... he pulls from lots of different influences which makes this an interesting listening experience.

Mieux que je pensais, je croyais détester sa carrière solo

Correct mais pas essentiel. Dans le genre, Ty Segall a fait des albums vraiment meilleurs.

Nice, good top 3 songs.

Not bad

This album has a good variety of styles from authentic The White Stripes, to some that were more blues based. I might listen to this again to get a better understanding for it.

I enjoyed a few songs but they all kind of ran together

this one was acc pretty good, i liked jack white!! perfect for background while browsing a bookstore if u know what i mean <3

Haven't really listened to this album since it came out. Makes you appreciate the simplicity of The White Stripes. Love Interruption stood out. 3/5

Vibes: 2/5 Instruments: 3/5 Production: 4/5 Emotional Value: 2/5 Storytelling: 3/5 AC: +0 Stand Outs: Love Interruption, On and On and On Overall Rating: 2.8

*The end of the album was stronger than the start- influences of the Beatles, jazz, etc. *It was fine to listen to but I would just prefer to listen to The White Stripes.

This guy looks like my friends girlfriend

Its just kinda what it is. Not for me.

Strong opening but not so much in the back half. 3.5 stars

I’m a fan of Jack White. I have no idea why this album is on here.

First time revisiting since it released. I wasn’t super impressed at the time, and I mostly feel the same way now. Though overall I’d say listening was a slightly more positive experience this time around

It's fine

A fitting album cover since everything jack white does is through a knowing referential/reverential backwards looking buzzard's gaze on the rock canon - he's constantly devouring and regurgitating blues- country- garage- psych- rock - he's tasteful and talented so it's usually pretty decent but never especially interesting. But blues rock addicted boomer critics can't get enough so he's been lauded for being an anachronism his whole career.

i miss the White Stripes but i did not connect with this so much

It's all very "Jack White" and over-engineered. His competence is on full display, but there is a veneer to his solo work that I just can't get past. As much as I loved The White Stripes, his solo work just never jives for me. I won't ever listen to this album again.

Fav song: Take Me With You When You Go Honestly kinda underwhelming for Jack White, not a lot of stand out tracks and most of the blues kinda went over my head. I wish there were a few more of those iconic Jack White face melting riffs.

my dumbahh saw this and went "who is this guy"??? first song in and I realised haha. very intrigued to see what his solo work is like. didn't like it as much as I think I should've, 3/5

3.7ish? Considered a 4, but not sure how much I'd actually listen to this (and I'm being harsher with ratings these days...)

#2 - 4/12/25

Not bad, kinda good.

Is he good? Or is he scamming us? I suppose it’s good that he is trying to keep rock alive. But is it? Things grow and change and die out. But is it any good? He can certainly play in that style. But was the style burned out by now with nothing left to say? Or did he catch it? 2.5 while I work it out.

Not bad

Unmistakably Jack White. I think he’s a bit of a marmite character but I like him as long as I don’t have to listen to too much. Everything sounds the same to me after a while, distinctive but similar.

Jack White... I really like and admire him, and somehow I don't know that I've rated a single album higher than a 3. This is a good mix of his talents, and really great to hear him play with a drummer who has more range than Meg White (sorry Meg, but I'd suggest that's a fact), but the songs... it's like he cranks on the tape machine (in this case, I believe that's literally true) and starts to figure out what he's doing. Love it from a pure artist perspective. Is it a great album? I'm not yet convinced.

I'll confess to a certain Jack-White weariness at this point. Having said that, I rather enjoyed this. I'm not sure it's quite a 4-star album, but it could just be my attention span at this point.

Jack White is very talented, but he's also really weird. The sound is definitely unique, but it's never landed with me. Worth the listen, but I'm not sure this will end up in my regular rotation. I might have to revisit this one again in the future to get a better feeling for it.

Day 1: Blunderbuss - Jack White Missing Pieces: (7.5/10) Sixteen Saltines: (7.5/10) Freedom at 21: (8/10) Love Interruption: (6/10) Blunderbuss: (6/10) Hypercritical Kiss: (7/10) Weep Themselves To Sleep: (8.5/10) I’m Shakin’: (5/10) Thrash Tongue Talker: (7/10) Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy: (3.5/10) I Guess I Should Go To Sleep (4/10) On And On And On: (7.5/10) Take Me With You When You Go: (8/10) Average: (6.5) 3 Stars

Playing it very safe, the White Stripes formula sanded down. Listenable, but without anything attention grabby or experimental.

Good stuff.

I wish this was just a bit more. it feels like a safe way to start off your career imo

I'd say this was more fun than I was expecting, but not really all that interesting or special. He's quite jaunty, is old Jack, and you're always a little fearful of something a little rootin or tootin going on. That said, even writing that has reminded me of one of my all time favourite things - the look on Jack White's face when the idiotic Jools Holland absolutely trampled all over a White Stripes song with a dreadful and uninvited honky-tonk solo. I don't think I've seen sheer contempt like it in all my life.

First Listen. 3 This was a perfectly fine album. It had some interesting songs in the second half of the album that had a kinda circus sounding instrumentation, and other songs reminded me of John Lennon.

Competent but never exciting. Generous 3

Honnêtement j'ai pas été hyper attentif, mais j'ai noté quelques pistes qui m'ont plu, 3/5

Jack White is pretty hit or miss for me, but this one's got quite a few hits. A true student of the game we call rock and roll.

Fun solo flexing from Jack White after jettisonning White Stripes. Love the genre shake-ups on this, keeps it interesting throughout and was a good tact to take given that White had doing blues-rock at a higher level than anyone else for almost fifteen years at this point. Some excellent single tracks on here, just more proof that when he's on a hot streak creatively that he's one of the most reliable dudes working. There are some lulls in his discography, Blunderbuss ain't one of them. Lots of awesome organ work on this one and a lot of the verse-chord structures lean on his weird yips and yelps in a way I find endearing. His voice is strange, his cadence makes it so that words tumble out of his mouth. I like listening to its amateurish quality contort itself to match the locked-in blues rhythms of his songs. It lets his often goofy lyrics get by me without complaint. Favorite Tracks: Missing Pieces, Blunderbuss, Hip (eponymous) Poor Boy, Take Me With You When You Go

This was pretty good. I didn’t think it was as weird and intense as other albums of his. Definitely a bigger blues influence.

I was not familiar with his solo stuff My favorite: Missing pieces

Enjoyed, but I probs wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to again

This was fine, I don't know why it's on the list. If you're telling the history of modern rock music do you need to include Jack White? Yeah, but as a member of the White Stripes. Does his perfectly fine, but kinda derivative solo-project blues rock need to be on the list? Nope. As a listen, this was fine. It's more expansive instrumentally than any of his work with White Stripes. I felt like this eliminated some of the more interesting, grungy, and garage elements that helped make the Stripes so good. It's got all the Jack White frills otherwise, but just with way more piano. Screeching guitar solos, whacked-out, rapid-delivery lyrics about... something... I dunno, it's fine. I listened to this when it came out and went "eh, sure, whatever" and today re-listening I do the same thing. Given it's on a list of albums to listen to before you die though, I do start asking questions about why it got selected. Is it because it's blues rock and a certain type of music critic gives that a huge leg-up? Not quite as bizarre as "Brothers" by Black Keys being on this list, but when you think of some modern albums that this displaced (21, Good Kid M.A.A.D City, Lemonade, The Suburbs) it just seems stupid. Anyways, my perfectly fine listening experience got slightly derailed by thinking too hard about why in hell this album is a "must listen to before you die" album. 3 stars.

Overall, an enjoyable album. I don't think it has the punch of some of White's later albums, and there were a few "misses" on this one. A decent 3.5/5.

This one is fine. Upper 3 stars. I feel like I should like it more.

It’s got some rock highs and annoying lows

Thought I would like this more. Not terrible. Not great. Like 2.5 stars.

Indistinguishable from the White Stripes - and I find his voice slightly off-putting. Not awful, not brilliant.

Didn't hate it, didn't love it. Usual JW fare.

Fantastic blues rock. Love Interruption is a standout. Great piano throughout. I don't think it has gotten better with time, though.

Some easy listening. Great tracks on here that I hope to return to. Didn't feel particularly special or unique but thats not always required from music.

liker veldig godt fra før. men tror ikke det er sånn wow-wow

Like it 3/5

Riff-rocking out on tangents through out the album. Modern day blues-rock. Nothing amazing on here

I listened to the White Stripes in my teenage years, but I'd never really listened to Jack White's solo stuff. His talent as a musician is undeniable. All in all, this album grew on me, and I like it. At first, I found it a little boring at times. I think there are a few skippable tracks, and I don't know that this is Jack White's best work ever, but he does what he does well. Highlights include Love Interruption, Weep Themselves to Sleep, and Freedom at 21. The instrumentation on Hypocritical Kiss is great. I enjoyed the edgey vibes on On and On and On and Take Me With You When You Go the most. There are some songs I'd include in my regular rotation, but I don't know if I'd listen to this album in full regularly.

The definition of a ´just fine´ album. The music was very good, though not extraordinary. I am not a fan of the singing style of Jack White; however, this album was pretty good. Overall, pretty enjoyable without major highlights. 3/5

não é um dos piores. gostei! achei uma pegada bem country rock. mas ainda sim muito sem sal

6/10 Favorite: Love Interruption

I thought this was fine, nothing too out of this world or remarkable though tbh

Good album

Another slightly odd pick for albums you MUST hear before you die. “You gotta listen to this jack white album that’s neither his best nor his worst work!”

3 out of 5. Still not very into Jack White but this album didn't make me dislike him.

Bluesy, definitely enjoy more than White Stripes. More polished, less primitive. But it's also strangely not memorable.

Good album but worst of his 3 solo works

I thought it was OK but never been a big fan. Some of the songs were catchier than others

Always solid. That’s Jack White for ya.

Here, Jack White makes some good rock music, but doesn’t quite recapture the magic of The White Stripes. He largely deals in the blues rock you’d expect from Jack White, with a little country and even some big band influence on a few songs. Although, there really isn’t anything shocking on Blunderbuss. There’s also kind of a rough lyrical theme going on here, I’m pretty sure this album is more or less about Jack White’s relationship with women. Sometimes it’s compelling, but it’s not something that feels like it’s really holding this thing together. Ultimately, it’s the songs that drive Blunderbuss. It is good blues rock, and Jack White does know what he’s doing, even if this is not as interesting as the music of The White stripes.

Not a bad album, but it kind of convinced me that Jack's best days were behind him. The title song is the only one that I really liked. Big fan of the White Stripes.

It’s alright but not even close to No Name or any of the white stripes stuff

Alright, thought it would be more emo from the cover

Such an interesting album. Sounds way older than 2012 in a way I can’t wrap my head around. Did enjoy it

Standouts Love Interruption Blunderbuss I Guess I Should Go To Sleep Take Me With You When You Go

I bought this at the time off the back of the excellent lead single _Love Interruption_. Having been a fan of the White Stripes, I was interested to hear what Jacky boy would come up with this his own. I was a little underwhelmed to be honest, there are some good moments on here for sure, particularly the first half of the album but it soon fell out of favour and I haven’t returned to it in a decade. Listening to it again, I probably have a little more appreciation of what he was going for here but beyond a handful of songs, I still don’t think it’s going to win me back.

reminded me a lot of submarine soundtrack and beatles in a certain way. solid 7/10

It's alright, first half especially but it's not good enough for this challenge.

3 stars I remember this album came out and had some buzz around it. I listened to it at the time and wasn’t interested, didn’t get through it. This time around I listened again. It wasn’t special, but it wasn’t bad. In fact, I feel like getting through this album was a little easier than getting through White Blood Cells. But I’m lukewarm on that album. Not a must listen, but not a bad time either.

Solid. I don't think it was as good as some of his work with the White Stripes, but well made and enjoyable throughout, if not mind-blowing. Favorite tracks were Blunderbuss, Weep Themselves to Sleep, and Love is Blindness (Bonus Track). 7/10, 3 stars.

Way more versatile then I expected - but missing the kick from Meg White

I like the overall vibe and style of this album. I think if it were to play in a random playlist though I would probably skip most songs…

It’s smooth. Not in the way that jazz can be smooth. But more in the way your brain would have to look if you think this is anything other than completely average music.

This wasn't all that bad, really, not the most memorable album ever, but also something I could see myself throwing on every now and again.

I usually hold the idea that I like or just prefer Jack White's solo music to his work in The White Stripes if nothing else because I return to his solo stuff more than TWS. I'm also exaggerating, because it's more songs from his solo albums than really all of those albums, but I think what makes them click for me a little more is perhaps the fact that he is really just doing whatever he wants in his albums, both weird ideas or just being the same ol blues/garage revivalist or even going a bit folk or country. I think Blunderbuss is a good reintroduction to Jack because here he is not just doing the same thing that he was doing in the TWS but he is also adding all these little folk songs in between, or playing a blues track, or going harder on his guitar chops. It's not the most consistent album ever, but every time I finish one of his albums I can't help but go "damn why don't I listen to him more frequently, this rules"

Repeat listen

3/5 - fairly good album! I liked a few of the songs though nothing fully stood out to me. Nevertheless, still a pretty solid album 🙂‍↕️

Previous to this, my only jack white exposure was the popular White Stripes songs that got a lot of radio play as I was growing up. Those songs are super nostalgic to me and kinda exemplify what rock sounded like in the early 2000's in my mind. I really ought to listen to a full white stripes record here soon. As for this album, I enjoyed it a good bit. It surprised me to look again and see that it came out in 2012, it sounds much earlier than that, but that's again probably just because in my mind the 2000's sound like Jack White. The lyricism is really strong in parts, the opening track especially brought really strong imagery to my mind that set a good tone. The tracks where he's kinda just whining about how evil a girl is felt a little weaker to me though haha. It's clearer to me that a lot of the rock I didn't enjoy from 2000's-2010's was just poorly copying jack white. His use of strings and piano on some of the songs reminds me of what I heard Coldplay trying and in my opinion failing to do. I think the closing track in my favorite. Speaking of influences, I can imagine that Geese heard this one and took a lot from it. The vocal performances, the keys, and especially that guitar solo in the middle really do it for me.

Decent sound but was too busy to give it a thorough listen. Like some other Jack White/White Stripes albums, there were a few tracks I didn’t love

I was a huge fan of The White Stripes growing up, but haven’t really listened to much of Jack Whites solo output. Anytime I would hear a track I would enjoy it but not enough to go out and listen to the record. The White Stripes run was near perfect in my opinion so I didn’t need any more Jack White. While it is a good listen, with solid songwriting, it seems overproduced in places and has a few tracks that I would consider filler. I just find myself wanting to go back to the Stripes more stripped down approach. Sixteen Saltines slaps 6/10

jack white’s voice will unfortunately always make me think of listening to ‘icky thump’ by the white stripes on the school bus when i was in 6th or 7th grade and thinking i was cool as fuck, an image that now kind of makes me cringe. i actually do think his voice and guitar are both genuinely pretty cool and interesting, but there’s a lingering air of goofy self-seriousness that clouds my perception of his solo music. some of the affectations on here i think are meant to be humorous but fall flat for me—for example i really liked ‘i’m shakin’ but why does he pronounce it like “noivous”…? actually i just looked that one up and apparently that’s an early r&b standard not even written by white. so actually who cares.

It’s fine, I don’t have any strong thoughts. It was interesting to hear his modern incorporation of blues principles into this alt rock style, but also it kind of skewed too goofy for me. I think it’s hard for me to hear music like this without it feeling dated because it feels so of its time, but also when I usually say that of an album it’s because the album/artist was influential in that scene and that’s why a lot of other stuff from that time sounds like it, so whatever.

233/1089 - The music is fine but goddamn does he have a voice for print.

Interesting variety of music. It was pretty good. It felt a little scattered but was enjoyable.

Talk smack about Meg all you want, the Half Stripes are good but not as good.

i like

It was ok. the songs were cool the genre was good. That's all I have to say though.

Not much of a rock guy but this seemed very cohesive. I'd probably listen to again

Ok nice funk/folky/jazzy tracks. Not my kind of vocals

ok 3 stars

Jack White is clearly a talented musician, but his stuff gets very samey. There's nothing on here that's as good as the best of the White Stripes, but it's fun enough.

Its okay

Was never a huge fan of Jack White. I’m probably too old. That being said, I did like this album. No two songs sound alike

3.1/his style is not for me

Perfectly serviceable blues-rock. I wouldn’t be mad if someone put this on but I’m unlikely to do it myself. I have medium feelings about the White Stripes and Jack White. I like their hits, I like what they do, but never got into their albums, never felt a personal connection, and never saw them live. Perhaps this challenge will get me into them when their albums inevitably come up.

I remember buying this album when it came out. I was a big White Stripes fan at the time (and I still am). I got into them right before they broke up... the worst time to get into any band. I never got to see them, but i bought up their entire catalogue after the breakup. It's a pretty great collection of records. My favourite is White Blood Cells (I have a feeling it will be on this list alongside Elephant... i'm actually surprised this solo record is here at all). Sooo naturally when Jack announced his solo debut, I was all over that. I remember at the time thinking it was good... but not the white stripes. And I feel the same now. It's a solid blues rock album. It has strong Zeppelin energy. There's a lot of good organ on it. There's a good amount of variety on the album, it's never boring. But outside of a couples tracks, it doesn't stick with me. It just doesn't hit as hard as the white stripes. But I don't hate when it's on. There are 2 big highlights for me: Love Interruption - Just a great bluesy acoustic duet with some nice keys/organ. I'm Shakin' - This groovy hypnotic blues rock track with a fun beat and girl group backing vocals. A it has a standard Jack White solo with this signature guitar tone. Love it. It was my favourite track when I bought the record and it's still my favourite track now. This album makes me reflect on the weird nature of the White Stripes legacy/reputation. Jack White is seen as the genius who can play any instrument and who is able to break rock music down to it's most simple elements and combine them in a iconic and unique way - some have even called him the last true rock star. And then Meg White is seen as ... a bad drummer. But this album should have people questioning that legacy. Here's Jack White, the guitar god genius guy finally striking out on his out without Meg there to bring him down.... but it just isn't as good without her there. This "legacy" that fans and music journalism have been holding onto is very likely bullshit. There was some sort of creative synergy between the 2 what we may never understand, that is not present on this album. And Jack White's music is lesser without whatever that X factor Meg was bringing to the table. She deserves a lot more credit for those White Stripes albums than she gets. Perhaps she's the filter for ideas, he would show things to her and she knew which ones to pursue and which ones to throw in the trash. Or perhaps she was chipping tons of ideas but it's not well documented (and maybe Jack just took the credit). Who knows... I just know that I missed her presence on this album.

Three White Stripes albums and at least one Jack White solo album but apparently no Deftones albums, and no Tool albums. It getting increasingly difficult to give this project even a passing amount of legitimacy.

Liked this, good one to drive. Easy listening rock trying to sound like Led Zep, Rolling Stones etc but at the same time being modern. Adding to the list for driving, as usual. Listening notes: Wannabe de led zeppelin en canciones como blunderbluss aunque con un aire americano, está guay. Me gusta el enfoque de rock clásico pero con sonido moderno.

There's nothing particularly bad about Blunderbuss, but I don't find it all that special. Jack White has made better and more memorable albums outside of this one, either solo or with one of his groups. There are a few memorable songs, and I guess it's notable as his first solo effort. Other than that, nothing about it really stands out. It didn't grab and hold my attention like he has done on numerous other efforts. I liked it well enough to say it was solid/good. I just can't really give it a better rating than that, even as someone who is a fan of JW. Overall: 3.25/5

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed. Quick Jack White romp. Better with the Stripes but this was good background mood music. Top tracks: “Sixteen Saltines,” “Hypocritical Kiss,” “I’m Shakin’”

Some good songs in here and definitely a unique sound. Too many skips for me to rate I too highly.

++: Missing Pieces, Freedom at 21, Love Interruption, I'm Shakin', Trash Tongue Talker +: Sixteen Saltines, Hypocritical Kiss, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy, Take Me with You When I Go +-: Blunderbuss, Weep Themselves to Sleep, I Guess I Should Go to Sleep, On and On and On 6,7/10

don't like the first 3 songs

THE ALBUM 3/5 Stars. What's nice is that the "Blunderbuss" album follows a certain style of mixing Blues, Jazz, Country and Alternative elements together. The raw and unfiltered nature makes it stand out as an art project. Since I know some of Jack White's previous work, I definitely expected way more Rock'n'Roll, but this was actually okay to listen to as well. I respect the work that probably went into this since White plays nearly all of the instruments himself. He tinkers and experiments a lot with his sound as a whole which you can hear in every song on this album. Would I listen to it again? Only to a couple songs with the intention of consuming art. If you want some insight to how Jack White creates his music, look for a documentary named "It Might Get Loud". Features Jimmy Page and The Edge as well. THE SONGS - Missing Pieces: very mainstream blues rock-ish. Not that going on but it feels very american. 3/10 - Sixteen Saltines: has just too much chaos going on, lyrics sounds wanky, 2/10 - Freedom At 21: don't really know what to think about this, there's a weird tremble in the background that sounds like someone's running. 2/10 - Love Interruption: "The only boy who could eeever teach me, was the son of a..." oh wait, yeah the intro throws you off heavily. Sounds like cheesy independent 60s music, but better and way more chill than the songs before. 4/10 - Blunderbuss: The title song, yeah (doesn't deserve it)... sounds too mellow for my taste, has a southern vibe, but no energy to it. Artsy, but not my taste. 5/10 - Hypocritical Kiss: Has definitely something going on, sounds more like a mainstream alternative song, but it's nice. 6/10 - Weep Themselves To Sleep: Piano doesn't mix well with a guitar when both play the same shit at the same time, BUT the song has a better vibe than I expected. Sounds a bit melodramatical. Jack, why does your guitar's connector have feedback? If this song was more clean, it could've gotten a better rating. 6/10 - I'm Shakin': Yeah me too ^^ This is alternative blues and what I expect Jack White to sound like. Melody sounds a bit wanky, but actually fits the song's vibe. Would listen to again 7/10 - Trash Tongue Talker: Rock'n'Roll-esque, the tempo shifts are... something; it's bluesy, but sounds more like a new band figuring out their tone. 4/10 - Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy: The only thing hip about this song is its' attempt to be; but it's not a bad song, there's probably an audience who likes this. 4/10 - I Guess I Should Go To Sleep: Actually a nice alternative blues song for once. I wouldn't say I hate it, but I don't like it either. 5/10 - On And On And On: Very chill intro, can't pinpoint the style, but better than most songs on this album. 6/10 - Take Me With You When You Go: Good song for a Coda, has Jazz rhythms paired with southern Country & Blues going on. 6/10

Very much not my kinda vibe, but I respect how great the instrumental solos were. Don't feel fair rating this one but oh well

Meh. Should be better

I liked it, cool vibe

Jack White: Blunderbuss: This is an album. Its fine, I enjoyed every song, its not interesting at all. Just fine music. 6/10

Thought this was a decent rock album, I do like his unique guitar style. That being said, he doesn’t stray far from it.

Some great songs on here, but I've generally liked solo JW less than with a group, and this is no exception. I miss the rambling neo-western hard feel of the Dead Weather, and the simplicity of White Stripes (more Meg drumming please). Songs on here like Hypocritical Kiss and then Weep Themselves to Sleep are just boring.

I always have time for Jack White. This isn’t a classic, probably not his best work, but with all his songs you get the feeling that he just really loves making music, whatever he’s playing.

There were elements of this that were better than much of The White Stripes I've listened to recently, which was a pleasant surprise. However a lot of the last half just merged into one a little bit.

This was a pleasant listing, but there is just something holding it back from being great that I can't quite put my finger on.

Sometimes it’s good to just have a little fun with an album on this list, and this is what Blunderbuss does ten times better than the other White Stripes-aligned album that’s generated thus far, Get Behind Me Satan. This thunders in with a triple-threat opener of properly rocking numbers from track 1 through 3, interrupted aptly by Love Interruption, and followed by the remaining ten tracks which seem to slowly descend into a more watery blues sound, like if you were punched by the first three tracks and slowly recovered from your wound by the last, Take Me With You When You Go. I had pinned Jack White as a rock artist for people who don’t really listen to that much music. That probably comes from the sheer popularity of Seven Nation Army. Blunderbuss has well and truly proven me wrong, however watered down the tracks may get towards the end, the first half especially is electric.

Good octavio sounds coupled to a not so impressive voice. Was ok.

It's weird cause I love this album, yet I dont think it should be on the list, before other White Stripes albums. One of the interesting things Jack did for this album and tour is having a full male(the Buzzards) and another full female(the Peacocks) backing bands, in tour one band did a set then the other took over and continued the gig. After touring the album Jack ended the experiment and chose to work with just one backing band, picking players from both bands. What do I think about the album? It is pleasant, but not groundbreaking, there are great moments in here like Missing Pieces, Love Interruption and the final minute of Take Me With You When You Go. A divorce album, the lyrics. Oh and hearing Jack beatbox on I'm shaking is funny 3/5 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjbzLC_idLU Jools Holland interview while promoting this album

sounds more like a 2002 album than 2012.

417/1001 🌕🌕🌕🌗🌑

Jack White is still Jack White, but Blunderbuss is missing the crunchy, drowning, iconic alt-rock sound of the White Stripes, and that's to it's detriment. Without that frenetic, bassy energy this one's a little forgettable. Fav tracks: Love Interruption

packed in. Interesting melodies, some meaningful lyrics, and an overall cohesive experience. With that, the albums a bit weird for sure, and it was a bit difficult to ease into even with the blend of production that makes the sounds initially stand out. It's electric, genre defining and hooky. There's a multitude of arrangements and undertones with enough instruments to match. It's flows perfectly from it's highs and lows, but there's nothing in here that stands out other than being a demonstration of the innate creativity Jack White possesses, but the intended effects didn't always land with me, such as the scratchy squeaky at Freedom At 21. Jack White is a talented artist, but it feels like he's always toeing the line of what is good music to listen to and making you just irritated wnough to turn it off. 1. Missing Pieces 2. Blunderbuss 3. I'm Shakin' Trash Tongue Talker Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy While there's nothing in here that is unlistenable, there's nothing that really pulls me in to want to listen further. It blends elements of various styles I'm fond of, and you can really hear the influences shine through with creative spins that make the album work for Jack White. It's a cohesive and fun sound, amplified by rock, offset by soft, sometimes folky, blues that sometimes just don't measure up to be more than decent music. For these reasons I give Blunderbuss by Jack White 3.5/5 stars

too many jack raps, not enough jack riffs. i’m shakin is great.

Honestly, pretty pretty good never really gave this whole album a listen but pleasantly surprised I do have to get over my aversion of Jack White’s voice but overall he got some interesting guitar tones happening here I’m gonna give it two thumbs up

Jack White mixin in country and folk is always nice. Its a fun album that is nicely paced but its a little too much shout rapping. 3 megs out of 5 megs

I like Jack White's work with the White Stripes, but here it doesn't feel as powerful or raw, a bit dull in comparison. It also lacks the powerful hymn-like tracks White's capable of producing. While it's a fun listen, if this was my intro to Jack White, I'd just find it average. My favourite tracks were "Freedom At 21" and "Love Interruption", I found the lyrics of the latter particularly well written. White's an excellent songwriter in general, but I felt like here he just didn't strike that high level he has had elsewhere.

This debut album has some hallmarks of Jack White's vocal style and plinky piano keys with the guitar. I liked it fine but I wasn't blown away by it.

Absolutely acceptable

Yeah this wasn't half bad

Overall not bad, but skipped a few songs.

Not a big fan of Jack White, but did like some songs on this album

I know appreciating Jack White/The White Stripes is shorthand for "I appreciate rock history," but, dang, this is just boring. It's been more than 20 years with Jack White's music, and aside from those big White Stripes singles - "Fell in Love with a Girl" and "Seven Nation Army" - pretty much everything Jack White does is just forgettable. It can't even muster a position to be unlikable. It's just boring.

It was ok. I would listen to it again.

The slower stuff in the second half and the title track were lovely. The rest, NSM.

Jack White's voice is special, honestly. I don't really think that aside from his voice, though, if this album is really anything special. It doesn't really come close to the heights of The White Stripes. Combined with the fact that this is a pretty recent album, I'm wondering if this is one of the albums that was added to this list with the expectation that it would be a special album well beyond its release, and it just really isn't. On top of the clear White Stripes sound/influence, I also get a little bit of Panic! At The Disco in there, particularly on "On and On and On". The end of the album is actually pretty good. I got a little worried that it was really going to be dragged down by the last few songs as I started the back half. Not to say those songs were the best, but they kept me engaged and listening, which I wasn't fully expecting. As a whole, it's better than a lot of modern albums we've gotten on this list, but it still doesn't hold a candle to the majority of this list. I definitely think this was an album that was prematurely added. And I don't think that it's one that everyone needs to listen to before they die. Could still potentially be worth your time though, if you're a big Jack White fan. Favorite Song(s): Freedom at 21, Trash Tongue Talker

3.5 stars I think. Bluesy. I thought it was the guy who wrote banana pancakes based off his name at first.

A lukewarm album. Things to appreciate yes, but for the most part it just moves past you. Just ok.

Not bad, not good.

A fine album that I gave multiple listens to because nothing really grabbed me and I kept forgetting what I was listening to and if I liked it or not.

I got BTFO'd at for cutting some chick off to this album. Solid album too

I love the white stripes, I think Jack White is dope, but his solo work leaves me mostly uninspired. Don't get me wrong, this is a solid album - the likes of Love Interruption and a few from the second half of the record are great. But the high points aren't so high and the album overall has some monotony issues. Great album artwork tho. 3.5 rounded down

Pre-listening: I actually think I like Lazaretto more than this of the post-Stripes Jack White, but I love his bluesy garage rock sound. This will be fun! It's not relevant, but his stark color schemes are something I've found need about his work (first Red/White for the White Stripes, then Blue/White in his solo work) Listening notes: -Good, workmanlike construction on the lead track. -Sixteen saltines is musically great, but has a kind of hollowness to it I find hard to describe. All of Jack White's talent is still there, but there's something missing from the White Stripes days (other than Meg). My theory is that there's an intensity/anger with the White Stripes that is relatable and good in a 25 year old, but which comes across a little silly in his late 30s. -I'm shakin' is kinda dumb, but it bubbles to the front of my mind every 3-4 months and has for years, so I gotta hand it to 'em. -Many have tried to revive blues music, but few have as faithfully recreated the sort of low-grade misogyny that was (unfortunately) a part of the genre from the beginning (I love Robert Johnson but...). Nothing awful, just a sort of consistent "women be nagging/taking my independence" theme undergirding everything -That said, his blues revival-ism is more sincere and earnest (in the good ways too) than most--including one 1960s cover feels like a good amount of paying his respects without overdoing it. -Tail end of this album loses steam. Review: Mostly this is good blues rock music, but not particularly special. 3.5 stars. The fact that I come back to Jack White regularly does lead me to want to round up to four, but on the other hand the album I return to is Lazaretto. And I listened to the first half like three times and had to stop each time. Not because it was bad, just had other things, but that ultimately indicates a level of forgettability.

I love Jack white, but this was a pretty average album to me.

I find Jack White to be a pretentious wanker and The White Stripes utterly overrated, so I'm a bit loath to admit that I quite liked this. The guitar is still too lo fi (read: poorly played) but the organ parts are nice and there's some cool bluesy stuff going on here in general.

Enjoyed some of the songs

Not amazing, but also just fine.

pretty good, but first half of the album was better imo

It’s alright

I liked how it was more guitar-centric than other stuff

Some good tunes, not sure I will listen to again anytime soon though

Not bowled over but enjoyed listening to this album.

It’s a decent rock record but it is also forgettable. 3/5

After giving 2 stars to three(!) White Stripes albums (man is that band overrated), I really wasn't waiting for Jack White's solo output. The first half was as expected - Jack's voice is not nearly good enough to work with such sparse instrumentation. And generally speaking, yes, rock music does benefit from bass guitars. Something changed on the second half though. More piano and other non-traditional rock instruments were added and the music became bluesier, reminiscent of the Rolling Stones at times. 2 stars for the first half, 3.5 for the second half.

liked it more than white stripes

He’s a distinct voice and that’s always a tricky thing for a soloist before or after being in a band. Unless there’s a big shift in musical style. Precursor for Whitestripes. Enjoyed it

I found myself liking this more than I was expecting to. Quite a good listen this one.

Starts off really well, distinctively Jack White and with more variation of styles and it all seems really well thought out and played. And then I just start losing interest halfway through, and to be honest I didn’t feel like I wanted listen to it again. Which I think is my experience with all his solo stuff, other than the excellent ‘No name’. I think the simplistic explanation is I just like his full rocking out stuff better.

Jack white is so good. Whoever sings backup on the last track is so good.

Musically, some of this album was interesting. The use of Piano throughout this album really struck me. It was as if they had hired a Saloon piano player from a Cowboy, Western movie. A nice listen. 3 stars. Would I listen again? No Would I buy this album? No 1 "Missing Pieces" - 03:27 - Catchy melody. Jack White's voice always seems to take me by surprise, if I haven't listened to him for a while, and I haven't. It doesn't always rest easy on my ears. Great keyboards/organ. - 3* 2 "Sixteen Saltines"- 02:37 - Good riff. - 3* 3 "Freedom at 21"- 02:51- Interesting song. I don't quite know why but it had less of the Jack White signature sounds, so I guess that's it. - 4* 4 "Love Interruption"- 02:38 - A little more bluesy. Nice melody. - 3* 5 "Blunderbuss"- 03:06 - Oh, nice introduction. Lovely piano. Nice song - 4* 6 "Hypocritical Kiss"- 02:50 - 3* 7 "Weep Themselves to Sleep"- 04:19 - Again, lovely piano introduction. - 3* 8 "I'm Shakin'"- 03:00 - Dramatic. The best song so far. The use of Piano, again, is excellent. If you played me the guitar solo, in isolation, it would have been instantly recognisable as Jack White. - 4* 9 "Trash Tongue Talker"- 03:20 - Rock n Roll. Nice backing vocals. - 3* 10 "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy"- 03:03 - Nice jangly piano - 3* 11 "I Guess I Should Go to Sleep"- 02:37 3* 12 "On and On and On"- 03:55 - Part of the vocal and piano melody reminded me of "On Broadway". - 3* 13 "Take Me with You When You Go"- 04:10 - This has a 1960s Burt Bacharach feel to the melody, until the guitars kick in but vocally it jars at this point. - 3* Total - 42 Average - 3.23

Liked it more than i thought it would, the end is too folky for me but it started strong

Skapligt, men gillar mest de som jag redan hört

it was alright

Enjoyed it.

Fine. Sixteen Saltines goes hard, but some of the rest is reasonably average. Not much sticks. Not terrible, not great. A shame, cos I loved The White Stripes.

It's a very Jack White album. Some great jams, some ponderous hipster crap.

Not a bad album by any means, but completely undeserving of a place in this list

I admire Jack White. I wish I could love him.

Sounds like someone rounded some of the rougher edges off an early white stripes album. It's a good album but made my maybe appreciate those rough edges a little more than be convinced by this.

Versatile album, with a lot of good songs, nothing special.

Evil Jack Black be like:

It was okay. Did not get all the way through.

Enjoyed listening to it, but I've already forgotten all the songs. Not very memorable.

One or 2 memorable songs

It was ok

Enjoyable

It was good + I liked Fever - but it was hard to listen to the whole thing cuz I kept losing interest. Very good jam but not my jam

Pretty good garage rock, but nothing really stands out for me. His new album no name is better imho

Good album but not something I would listen to on repeat.

I've been lukewarm on his music though I appreciate him as both a cultural force and and as an advocate of music production. This album was pretty solid. When Jack makes music, it sort of feels like a very careful graduate student showing you that he knows exactly how to do it. I guess that's my complaint?

This was almost a 4, some good tracks mixed in with what felt a bit more like filler. Worthy of a bit more of a listen but there were a few too many distracting elements such as the pronunciation of 'im nervous ' on the otherwise excellent 'I'm Shakin' Top track: Keep themselves to sleep

I always want to like Jack White better than I do, but it’s hard to avoid the fact that every song sounds the same. Cool grooves, great guitar tones and playing, passionate vocals, but a monotonous listen. This wasn’t the case with the White Stripes. What happened?

6/10 Jack White is good and so is this album 6-15-2025

Not for me but not terrible

Nathan-Liked it Tyler-No strong feelings

Solid. Not something I’d listen to again, but all good.

Blunderbuss is the debut solo album by Jack White. But it doesn't feel that way at all. It feels like an album by an experienced solo musician. It expertly features so many different feelings and styles of music. Yet it just feels like a list of singles because there is absolutely no connection between the songs. Each song could be for a different band to play and it feels like a bit of a compilation.

Entertaining. 3/5

For his first solo album, Jack White decided trade the peppermint red-white-black color scheme for blue tones on a low stakes and straightforward record. While it's not bad, it sounds incredibly middle of the road when compared to his White Stripes, or even Raconteurs releases. At the time, I thought this was going to the way for him going forward, and the next album Lazaretto didn't prove me wrong. However, after that, White seemed to have hit some sort of stride and once again started experimenting with wilder ideas and showing he is still one of the most vital rock musicians working today. Key tracks: Sixteen Saltines Love Interruption Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy

It was okay

This was a decent album. Pretty classic rock for the 2010s.

This stated out a lot better than it ended. The first 4 or 5 tracks are white stripes without any of the things I hate about them (shit drumming, overly simplistic songwriting, deliberately bad production) but then it devolved in to this saloon piano/ironic whisky drinking music that characterized the minimal sound of tue 2010’s. I guess you can give jack white credit for basically reinventing that sound but I still don’t like it. It’s not a terrible record but I can’t deal with the static voice filter, piano banging and 5 note phrases. Not for me but I get why people like it.

But who was playing drums?!?!

Üllataval kombel hakkas peale teist läbi kuulamist rohkem meeldima. Klaver ja hevimad instrumendid klapivad hästi.

I feel like this is the kind of music critics love, Jack is insanely talented and completely shreds the guitar but I can't say it's my favorite music.

Jack White doing what Jack White does, missing some of the punky flavor of the Stripes in exchange for some classic blues rock with probably too many musicians. It works, its good, it feels like an extension of the Stripes Get Behind Me Satan, but without the charming rough edges that make Satan a great album, this one falls slightly flat. Sixteen Saltines is a White Stripes song with too many guitar fx. Freedom At 21 vocally sounds like Yuno Miles lol, but the production is class. The delay on the drums after the first chorus is ace, however the guitar solo is an abuse of a whammy pedal (despite being a sick solo). Im Shakin was pretty okay until he started pronouncing noi-vuss like that, sounded like a fucking cartoon character lol. Favourites - Sixteen Saltines, Freedom At 21, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Least Favourites - I'm Shakin

Jack White is at his best when he is being loud and rocking. Many of the White Stripes and The Raconteurs best songs sound best when they are almost coming off the rails. This album has a few songs like that but falls into this dreary bluesy slop that many of his albums do.

Jack White is really talented and one of the few remnants of the 00s garage/rock scene to come away from it still doing creative and interesting things. This one is certainly creative and interesting although I feel he's more in his element in the first half when it's straight up rockers than towards the end when we get more piano and slower paced songs. I don't feel there's loads here to qualify it as a must-hear but it's perfectly good and listenable. I'd probably bump it for his 2024 'No Name' album at this point, if it was up to me.

I don't know how exactly to articulate it, but Jack White is one of those artists who I am grateful for having existed, but I don't get particularly excited to listen to. And yet whenever I do, I usually come away from the project feeling like "that was solid." This was one such album that sounds so very Jack White to its core. Distorted guitar - check. Compressed/fuzzed out vocals - check. Bluesy structures with breakout solos - check. It all feels predictable, but no less enjoyable for that fact. With 5 songs to go, I'm going to call it at a 3. THe only standouts for my ear were I'm Shakin' (mainly because it was a very memorable riff) and Sixteen Saltines (which reminds me vaguely of Hardest Button to Button).

Eipä hassumpi albumi tämä. Pitäisi kuunnella uudelleen paremman kuvan saamiseksi tosin.

Do like this at times but that album as a whole feels a little flat. Maybe that’s the point idk

Fine, but not interesting to me.

After having listened to "Elephant" and enjoying it i expected to like this album more than i did, Honestly its kind of forgettable and theres too much slow folk stuff her imo. 6/10 Favourite: Sixteen Saltines Least Favourite: Trash Tongue Talker

Jack White's energy and iconic voice are nothing short of contagious and everything he touches is at least solid, but most of these songs seem to be in a rather bit of an awkward position between his harder rocking stuff under the Stripes and his later more experimental ventures. Nonetheless, pretty fun stuff.

Favorites: Sixteen Saltines, Freedom at 21, Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Jack White struck out on his own a year after The White Stripes fully disbanded in 2011, and I would argue that this is solid work from him though not entirely up to par with The White Stripes’s best. He’s come a long way since even this album, with his recent solo work being much better in quality in my opinion. This was still worth listening to, though.

Liebe Jack White. Dieses Album hat auch viele Tracks dienmir sehr gefallen. Aber wr hat bei weitem bessere Alben

As always with Jack White it’s solid, he’s a musician of such talent. However, I felt like there was a bit too much of a gap on a few tracks between the tone set by the band/piano (generally quite chill and a lot would easily fit on a country/generic pop album) and the strong, slightly abrasive vocals. So I’m not sure it quite worked as well as some other albums but still enjoyed it.

Maybe it’s the fact that I’ve had back-to-back Jack White-related albums now, but Blunderbuss left me feeling a bit underwhelmed; even after giving it a few chances to land. It’s not a bad album by any stretch; there’s solid musicianship and moments of charm scattered throughout. But overall, it just feels like it’s missing something. The energy and raw edge that usually define Jack White’s work seem a bit diluted here. A decent listen, but not one I’m itching to return to.

2.8 This list has made me realise I can't do Jack White/Stripes. Can't quite put my finger on why. I just find it all extremely dull tbh. Mid album.

Jack White is a talented musician, this album had a couple standout tracks, but not enough to bring me back for a full listen. 3/5

After listening to three The White Stripes albums, now I'm presented with Jack White's solo material, and I have to wonder why. I know that Jack is a very influential figure in rock music, but I think including the former groups records in this list is enough, specially when this album doesn't hit as the others. Although Jack's very recognizable style of singing is present and there's now a variety of instruments in each song, I felt like this album lacks in charisma and power, and it even is a bit inconsistent, but at least is not a bad listen, just forgettable in comparition with His previous works.

Hm I was looking forward to going back to this after loving elephant but I'm struggling to get into it its a bit flat... I liked love interruption? And hypocritical kiss. Okay it's doing something different in these last couple songs. Unfortunately what I suspect it might be doing different on I'm Shakin is being annoying and shit. I kind of like it tho. I've never claimed to have good taste. Hm idk. Idk about this rock n roll thing he's doing. Bit annoying. Dare I use the word trite. Honestly I'm confused mostly. I want to like it but eh, feel like I should hate it but i dont. That should mean a three star rounded up but I want them to be purple or smth. Does. Does that make sense. Fucking no it doesn't Emily. Actually I've just really enjoyed I guess I should go to sleep that was a bit weird. You know what this could grow on me... on and on and on is twangly in a less annoying way. Maybe. Is it just a bit dated is that the main problem. Do I have heatstroke why am I getting so vexed about this Jack White album. Girl stop overthinking and give it a 3.

2000s rock. Alright to listen to, not very interesting. Like the piano a lot.

Overall the sound wasn't for me. I like the artist's voice. Weep themselves to Sleep the only good song.

Oh, Jack White. What a character you are. Your performance at Bonnaroo many years ago (or more specifically your story about "Having nothing better to do") is something I won't soon forget. Solid artist. Wild, varied, entertaining.

I like the sound of Jack White's solo stuff but the song writing is always a bit short. The newer albums have one or two keepers, but otherwise it feels very meandering.

rumpelrumpel

As a huge White Stripes and Jack White fan, I recall being intrigued by his debut solo album. I also recall being a little let down by Blunderbuss. It’s not necessarily bad, there are good tracks, it starts fairly strong but after listening again years later it just feels like an album with a bunch of ideas Jack wanted to dump into an album without a ton of cohesion, maybe with the band, maybe he neglected the guitar too much? I don’t know there’s something missing. Years later Jack has come full circle with his most recent release, No Name which is excellent. This was fine. 3 stars

Two albums from the 2010s in a row after getting none for months. Jack's solo stuff doesn't usually do very much for me but this was a pleasant surprise. I don't know why but Jack White/The White stripes have been hitting harder than usual. Favorite track: Sixteen Saltines 3.5/5

Great guitarist, OK album

I really fell off with Jack after the Stripes broke up and it was largely due to this album. I feel like the difference between this and even Icky Thump is stark. Less dynamic and textured and more of the fast-talking rap-singing schtick which has more or less become his whole deal. I'm an "actually the White Stripes are an art-house blues band" guy so this isn't groundbreaking news to anyone.

Meh so far, maybe I could get into it

Seemed fine to me but can't remember much now Will I listen to again: 10%

- fun little riff on opening song -good guitar, still gotta deal with jack white's voice

Some good songs, not all of it up my alley.

Really strong album. Love most of the music on here and it was my first time hearing it. 7.6/10

Not bad. Groovy and instrumentally rich, but it didn't blow me away. Listenable, but perhaps forgettable.

Gewoon niet zo speciaal

1 out of 1001. mama idk if i'm gonna commit - funky at the start. not bad. like this is definitely from 2012 - waitttt sixteen saltines. why am i grooving rn - love interruption is another one that get me looking over. like ooo... - TITLE TRACKKKKK - weep themselves to sleep. I love me a good piano - i think i disassociated during i'm shakin' Sorry mister white - waittt trash tongue talker OKAYYYY - on and on and on..... hm! ykw. not bad. solid like. 3.5? if i had to pick it's more a 3. but maybe that's because new stuff needs to grow on me I'm sure if i listen to it more it'll be a 4. she will be going into my library however!

im vibing with this kinda, came out in 2012 but has the essence of the mid 2000s

More De Stijl than White Blood Cells, as White evokes C&W and blues, in his own inimtable way. Slightly lacks the energy of his layer solo work

Some cool songs, but very uneven. 3 stars

I was a big White Stripes fan back in the day, so I was excited for this album when it came out, but at the time, I was pretty disappointed by it. Somehow, being freed from the minimalistic limitations of the White Stripes resulted in Jack making a less interesting album. It's not all bad, and there's certainly some good stuff here. "Sixteen Saltines" is one of the best songs he ever wrote, and "Love Interruption" and the "I'm Shakin'" cover are also quite cool. But beyond that a lot of it is pretty uneven. 3.5 stars.

Was pleasantly surprised, downloaded a couple songs but probably wouldn’t come back to this album.

Ok but not great, white stripes were better

It’s a good album with a number of songs I liked, Blunderbuss, I’m Shakin and On and On and On in particular. Others were a little too frantic for me. Missing Pieces sounded like a Meatloaf song. Altogether a pretty good album.

Not jacks best work but was the best rock albo of 2012 as I recall.

I generally really liked The White Stripes. They had an interesting take on blues rock that really sounded quite distinctly them. Blunderbuss, Jack White's debut solo record, feel like something of a regression to me. Blunderbuss feels like it could have been made by any contemporary blues artist, which isn't to say it's a bad record, just not a particularly interesting or exciting one.

Jack White is undoubtedly talented but he's just never been able to capture much of my attention outside of The White Stripes, unfortunately. This album is fine but I probably won't listen to it again.

It's alright to have on in the background.

Decent, if not overripe in its sounds. Will neeed to revisit though.

I was very glad this evolved into more folk rock with the acoustic & piano work after the opening of this - otherwise we’d be treading dangerously close to the black keys again. Nothing stood out individually aside from I’m Shakin’ which does have a killer riff to it and is nestled in between a lot of the acoustic stuff so it stands out properly. Also he says nervous funny a couple of times, that gets the album an extra star in my eyes. Even if the other songs as a whole don’t stand out much to me the various piano riffs did. Glad this is in here, even if it isn’t 100% my thing.

Enjoyed it.

I am a Jack White fan so was keen to get into this and fully expected a 4*+. Unfortunately, although there are some decent tracks, as an album this doesn't really excite me. I have the Later Album "Lazaretto", which in my opinion is superior. Maybe this one is on the list purely because it is his first solo album... You can't deny the musical ability of Jack White but too much of this falls into the category of "underwhelming modern country music".

first half is so strong, second half stalls a bit. The highs are so good though, some of his best solo tracks. The first four tracks are a heavenly run

3.5! Solid!

kind of giving Led Zeppelin

Ok, not my taste

Jack White is at his best when he’s A) ripping and shredding on guitar and B) when he’s being playful. He’s not my favorite when he’s indulging his prog rock side. Sign me up all day long for tunes like “I’m shakin’” and “trash tongue talker”. Sadly, this album has a bit too much of my less favorite moments.

I'm Shakin' Take me with you when you go

I like White's straightforward bluesy rock; it has a good classic sound but seems fresh.

Okey, not really my style of music

This guy was in the white stripes or something. The first few songs are kind of fun. 28/03/25

Good but lacks je ne sais quois of the Stripes

Perfectly nice album, but nothing revolutionary or particularly memorable. It’s a high three.

Not bad but his singing style kind of gets off putting

Knew exactly what it would sound like from the album cover.

Pretty good tbh, had some bright spots

Jack White's first solo album after a pretty decorated career with the White Stripes. Definitely more personal compared to his work within a group. Blues rock with some country influence sprinkled throughout and prominent piano playing near the end. Although it's...a little inconsistent I guess? Doesn't quite stack up to the group efforts of the White Stripes, in which there was a certain charm in the frantic garage rock sound they produced. Also, no one gonna mention how Jack White says nervous ("noyvus"?) in "I'm Shakin'"?

Never listened to jack before and it wasn’t bad, it was just alright.

Decent rock but nothing stood out

Nothing lost nothing gained, jack white is a legend but it doesn’t show in this one

Medium rare.
