Reviews (page 5 of 11)

Jack white is awesome!

This is one talented motherfucker.

Yesterday was The White Stripes, today is more Jack White. I’m not complaining, I like most everything Jack’s been a part of. This album is no different. Great instrumentation, vocals, production, and songs. Not as good as he was with Meg, but stijl solid. 4/5

Simple, amazing

wow haven't listened much to Jack White. Enjoyed this one.

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Artwork: 🟦 Mix: braucht enorm Saft wegen durchweg frustrierend magerer Dynamik 😔; "Freedom At 21" mit vielen Mix-Albernheiten; detailreiche Würdigung jedes einzelnen Instruments mit besonders verblüffenden Piano-Parts in "Hypocritical Kiss", "Weep Themselves To Sleep" und "Trash Tongue Talker" Musik: einfach eine Wohlfüh-Blues Rock-Folk-Country Soul-Platte. "Sixteen Saltines" ballert halt; "Love Interruption" ewig-wunderbarer Ohrwurm Wertung: 🟦🟦🟦🟦/5

I like Jack White's style! I like when he focuses on guitar riffs or strong beats, interspersed with quick or emphatic vocals. Take Me With You When You Go is a good example of this. Icky Thump another example from the White Stripes catalogue. I cruised through this album and enjoyed the ride, it was over too soon.

I like Jack White in most of his incarnations. This is a slickly produced record that retains at least some of the grit.

It's not as good as The White Stripes, it's missing Meg driving the song forward with her "interesting" approach to drumming. But it's bluesy and dirty, and my toe is still tapping. Jack White can play a guitar and I'll gladly listen to this one again.

I’ve heard at least one album with Jack White on this journey already, as part of The White Stripes. This is his first solo album after the group’s breakup, and it becomes apparent that Jack had been greatly affected by not only his split from former bandmate Meg White but also his divorce from Karen Elson. Throughout a fair amount of these songs, Jack makes clear that he’s not that sympathetic of a character, showcasing in the lyrics how damaged his views on love became, and characterized by the female vocals supporting him. It’s not inherently bad on the surface, but it might be uncomfortable given how frequent he plays the “evil woman” tropes here. However, even if this album is lyrically difficult, the music is still pretty good. There’s solid guitar work, tight melodic compositions, and a fair amount of genre hopping between garage, blues, folk and even touches of hip hop done well to keep it varied. In particular, I enjoyed the rocking “Sixteen Saltines” that continued the bombast of past White Stripes hits, along with well done acoustic ballads like “Love Interruption” and the title track. Overall, Blunderbuss is a hard pill to swallow lyrically, but worth checking out.

Very musically interesting. Lots of different song ideas and very diverse range of sounds

Kind of fun. Low 4.

I fw it

Sixteen Saltines

Jack White just rocks. Easy as that. Never delved into his solo stuff before, but very familiar with his White Stripes and The Raconteurs. It was cool to hear this album and read about it as well. Definitely keeping it in the mix.

I really liked this one. It's essentially a modern take on the rock'n'roll genre, with a particular highlight on the rocking electric guitar and country-esque violin. There's a clear Beatles influence (particularly from their early career) and some similarities to the guitar and bass of Rush. Some nice soulful harmonies in the organs, guitars, and vocals, though I feel the vocals could be a little stronger. The vocals are a little goofy and pretentious most of the time as well, and the album isn't particularly cohesive. That being said, though, I was pretty engaged throughout the experience. There isn't a single bad track on here, and very few "middle-of-the-road" ones. It might be worth checking out the White Stripes after this. 4/5 Key tracks: Take Me With You When You Go, Sixteen Saltines, Blunderbuss, I'm Shakin', Love Interruption

It's a typical Jack White album. Keeping his regular good level.

"On And On And On" må være mit favoritnummer på denne plade.

I've listen to The White Stripes, but never Jack White solo stuff - I'd listen to it again

7.5/10! This is pretty solid and I quite enjoyed it. Some songs I liked a lot and I had fun with the rest! I loved the bluesy rock and a lot of the interesting and creative choices made musically. It's also lyrically so profound and poignant, especially surrounding the topic of death. Great listen!

Polished White Stripes

I really enjoyed this as a first impression. It feels like an album that the more I listen to it the more I’ll appreciate it. Loved the beat of Take Me With You When You Go, gave me Take Five vibes which I feel was intentional

I would say it's definitely on par with the other White Stripes albums I've had on the list. Jack seems to have a very acute knack for catchy songwriting and riffs and always delivers quite a bit of variation throughout his records which I appreciate. I'll file it under albums I could come back to if I need something random to listen to. 7/10

It's really good, I hadn't listened to it before and will probably go back to it now!

Never heard the album before. Great rock and blues album, a good amount of experimentation and stylistic variety but never sounds disjointed or out of place. I'm really impressed. "I won't let love disrupt, corrupt or interrupt me"

Really enjoyed this. Will be listening to it again.

Very experimental for a rock album. Love the jazz influences, especially on I Guess I Should Go to Sleep.

Jack never fails to deliver.

There’s a great deal to like here, cool melodies in abundance, a few ferocious hooks, and less of the DIY fundamentalism of some WS records, though maybe it's slightly overdetermined (characteristically so). Maybe slightly too frolicsome (see “Go Back to Sleep”) for its own good, with the nods toward doo-wopy blues and ragtime and the too-many vaguely proggy mood shifts and overwrought structures. but there’s less of the trying-too-hard effect and look-how-retro-rootsy-we-can-be vibe of the WS records. “On and On and On” is great and “Hypocritical Kisses” and “Love Interruption” and the opener nearly as good. Funny that the title cut is just about the subtlest.

Never listened to any Jack White outside of the White Stripes before. And there it is again: the energetic White Stripes- sound. 🎸🥁 🎹 But it has widened and developed. Not reduced and pure any more. Much more diversified and even more listenable. No fails. Probably a ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ album but therefor I need a few more listens. Favourite: "Sixteen Saltines", "Weep Themselves To Sleep", "Take Me With You When You Go"

Great music. I’ve only know jack from white stripes, but his solo stuff is very good.

I think what you get with Jack White is always going to be something that is at least going to be interesting. This was a solid outing and I really enjoyed it.

Honestly the best record we’ve had so far, other than zeppelin. Sixteen saltines may be a new fave.

Jack listens to big stack of 78rpm records. ‘Yep. I can do that.’

Piano/Rock/Orgel

More complex arrangements

This was surprisingly good!

This just rocks

Jack White's talent is taking the simplest riffs and exploring all the possibilities of them. Here he works more on song structure and studio execution than the White Stripes' more blatant guitar-based anthemic crunchiness. This is a little bit more wordy than the White Stripes or even the Raconteurs, more thoughtful, and a little more obtuse for me. There's a strange flow to it, though, not BAD per se, just a bit stream-of-consciousness. Feels like we Jack White is going down a different road musically at the end of the album than where we started. It's not disappointing, but it is a goodbye to the earlier simpler grittier garagier (garage-ier?) work into the more backwoods idioms that he ventures into later. Can't wait to see how he changes in another 10 years.

Kaikki White stripesit ja Whitet taitaa olla tällä listalla… toisaalta syystä kai, koska tää ainakin on tasasen kova levy! Nytkyn mukana. Miten sama kaava voi toimia albumista toiseen? Jos se kuulostaa hyvältä mun korvaan, niin kyllä.

7.5/10 , easy listening

Erg vet, paar bangers, maar werd op gegeven moment wel iets minder cool

I liked it, but it wasn't anything memorable. I would listen to it again, thought. 3.5 rounded up.

Such a great musician Jack White. This album is a fantastic blend of Indierock, grunge and blues. Love it.

Sounds like Jack has had some damaged, painful relationships. I’m Shakin’ is the best song but all songs are good, no filler. This is a well put together album (3.9*s)

Jack White has always been an artist where I don't know much of his discography (especially post White Stripes) but every time I hear something by him I'm interested. Blunderbuss is yet another positive example. At some point I need to do a deep dive on his career because the more I'm exposed to him the more I realize how talented he is. Blunderbuss is a great record for his solo debut post-Stripes. Solid all the way through with a couple of songs that I will come back to in the future. Jack White has to be one of the most creative artists working over the past 20 years. He's great at weaving a unique sound into non-contemporary rock. As a 2012 album is this the latest entry in the 1001? 3.87 stars

Enjoyable album. Some songs sound like average White Stripes songs, but he also plays with a few other styles, that work out well. Stand out song I'm Shakin'

Blunderbuss is the debut solo studio album by Jack White, originally released in 2012. I had originally only known Jack White's work with his band The White Stripes. This is the first time I'm listening to any of his solo work. This record is definitely more along the roots rock/blues rock vein which was a surprise to me. I was used to his garage rock revival sound with White Stripes. He also seamlessly blends some folk and country elements in here as well. I love the juxtaposition between songs like the hard-rocking "Sixteen Saltines" and the folky ballad "Love Interruption". I can also hear how influential Jack White is to some modern groups. For example, the closing track "Take Me with You When You Go" reminds me of King Gizzard, specifically Ambrose Kenny Smith. It even sounds like it could be a Murlocs song. Overall I really enjoyed this listen.

I don't love it like his White Stripes stuff but it's a solid album and you have to give him credit for branching out and adding more genres into his songs. 3.5 rounding up

Know a bunch of these songs will have to give this a re-listen

White is an endless fountain of creativity; this album proves that. Although the songs are not rooted in guitar—as the common listener could expect from Jack—the tracklist is a genuine representation of his identity and artistry. It is not hard listening at all; before you notice, it is done. Now, I can't be sure about its influence. Maybe more transcendental things were happening in 2012? Anyways, 3.5/5

Really great!

As a noted Jack White hater, I stand correct. Sixteen Saltines...

My first time listening to this guy. Pretty good, unique sound though his voice annoys me on some tracks

pretty good. Sounds like the latter white stripes stuff

This is pretty awesome and not exactly what I expected. "16 saltines" has a heavier guitar riff that is sweet and some cool overlapped vocals, "freedom at 21" also has a strong riff and little solo. Then "Love interruption" strips backs a little more and focuses on an acoustic guitar and piano. The rest of the album a bluesy piano leads the way more than guitar in a lot of the songs which was the unexpected part for me. I really enjoyed "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" it was very catchy. Overall super enjoyable and surprising throughout

Jack White lainannut Dressman urkuja alemmalta levyltä. Muutenkin vähän samaa henkeä. Hyvää modernia rockia vanhalla twistillä. Parhaat: Sixteen Saltines, Blunderbuss, Take Me With You When You Go

I ran this 2X this weekend and I appreciated it much more the second time around. I love the blend of multiple styles- blues, rock, ragtime, country, folk, and I even think I heard a smidge of jazz. It really highlights White’s musical knowledge and creativity. Interesting the way he chose to use hired guns to maintain creative control. I love that it seemed to feature the piano more and was accented by guitar work. I went in to the second listen at a 3-3.5, I landed at a 4.25/5

When this album arrived 12 years ago I did not give it its fair share. Most likely because I was still somewhat narrow mindedly thinking Jack was only a one-trick White Stripes pony. Re-listening to this now confirms how wrong I was. The stylistic variety and genre bending really shows how he spread his wings after the Stripes and is enough to rate this high for me. Add to that the old school production of only using an 8-track recorder, really allowed some space and air to exist in the songs while also showing that with so few tracks available the players really had to be well-rehearsed. A very cool listen this time around and one I will for sure be routinely revisiting.

It’s almost like Jack didn’t even need Meg to make albums!

Fun fact about Jack White, he can name any Beatles song after hearing less that a second. Quite impressive. Turns out I probably haven’t been giving him enough of my listening attention. A solid showing.

Sometimes JW's stuff feels a little overproduced to me... I'm not sure if that is a fair criticism or really even makes sense. That said, you can't deny his licks and variety of genres he's able to tap into for a very well rounded album. I still prefer his time with the White Stripes, but there is enough here to round up to 4*. 3.5/4

The White Stripes albums on the list sounded a bit less fresh to me these dayd than I had expected, but thid Jack White solo album which I do not care too much about at the time turned out to be much better, with songwriting that matches the best White Stripes songs, (still a little too inconsistent overall for five stars)

Captivating song material of comparable quality to the White Stripes.

A bit much of the same old jack white vocal tropes here. Still an incredible album with a throwback sound. Extremely raw, and great song writing at play here

Good rock album with a variety of feels and sounds. One of Jack's best.

No blunders. Just bussin. Solid rock album.

Interesting this is our first Jack White album instead of something from the White Stripes. I've been a fan of both for a long time. I didn't realize this was his first solo album. I don't think I've ever taken a good close look at the vulture on his shoulder either. I've never listened to this all the way through but I've been listening to "Sixteen Saltines", "Freedom at 21", and "I'm Shakin'" since high school, all bangers. The electric piano on the opener shreds. I like the slide guitar on the title track too. I learned that "I'm Shakin'" is a cover just last week when I heard the original version by Little Willie John on this internet radio station I like. I thoroughly enjoyed this. Not every song is straight fire but it's still a quality rock album. I've been sleeping on it all this time.

Listened in the car but listened again at work. Jack has a great style. I like the grit in his mic. Enjoyed most songs. Top songs: Missing pieces Sixteen saltines Weep themselves to sleep

Blunderbuss was a bit of an eye-opener to me when it first came out, in that I saw that music was changing right in front of my ears. Alt and pop punk were falling out of flavor in favor of more indie sounds, and a growing number of artists were sounding like Jack White (and by extension, The White Stripes) and less like.... Franz Ferdinand or My Chemical Romance. Add that to the fact that I turned 18 a few weeks before this record came out - all the signs of growing up, I guess? I enjoyed the album though, particularly the back half where he took more influences from other genres. It's very creative all in all, which is to be expected with Jack White. Standouts are Sixteen Saltines, I'm Shakin', and Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy.

"Love Interruption" is one of the songs of all time. Hell yeah man, I also want love to murder my own mother! (this is a joke, I love you mommy)

Lennon without McCartney. And vice versa. Which means it's still great. It's just not the White Stripes. Look no further for proof of how essential Meg White was to the magic. I still love this. I just miss that drummer girl.

Rating: 8/10 Great album overall. Really enjoyed the mix of rock, blues, and jazz. The songwriting and style of this album is different enough from the White Stripes that it is definitely worth listening to. Favorite songs: Freedom At 21, Love Interruption, Weep Themselves To Sleep, I'm Shakin', Trash Tongue Talker, I Guess I Should Go To Sleep, On And On And On, Take Me With You When You Go. Worst song: Blunderbuss.

Solid album, easy on the ears. Standouts: the piano in Weep Themselves To Sleep, amazing the way it thunks. The light funk & blues of I'm Shaking.

Really fun and varied album. Playful and theatrical, pretty different from what I know if his White Stripes discography but still very suited to his voice.

Never listened to this before. It's Jack White for sure. It's not bad. Kind of a 3.5 for me I think

The best of his solo work is prevalent here. Interesting compositions, sturdy and wild guitars, Jacks signature vocals and of course unique songwriting. This is an album the one and only Mr. White could craft. Strange and beautiful all at once.

Jack white ha always been successful by creating his own style and not trying to be what people want. This album does just that and more. White is able to fully experiment and breakout his own style on this solo album and it shows the depth and precision at which he writes and plays music. Overall this is a solid album. Barely breaking the 4 star threshold as it has replay value and was a good transition into the 10s with harder alt rock sound. 7.8/10

White strips without meg. Good album

I liked it.

Pretty good.

I liked it. His voice and style are unmistakable, which is something today. It may slide off this list as newer talents emerge, but he is a credible artist. Seems to work hard at his musicianship and writing.

Pretty good. However, I've noticed that while every track is different, they all feel pretty similar towards the end. For an album on the shorter side, it's a little bit longwinded. I think it's because the tracks aren't super cohesive with each other. For something I just called longwinded, I don't think it's fatiguing to listen to. It seems like to me it's caused by frontloading the album with all of the serious bangers because the second half of the album feels lost. I think it's interesting how the songs start showing some folk and country as the album progresses. strong 7.5/10

It's always a pleasure to hear that.

plenty of solid songs in here, but some of the slower and more bluesy songs just didn't click for me. the riffs and patterns are excellent

solid album

Very enjoyable. I like the striped back nature of Jack White's performances.

Wasn’t sure what to think of it at first but after a couple listens (god bless short albums), it really started to click with. Like the bastard child of Zep and McCartney.

Great album. Definitely would relisten to

Jack White channeling his inner Robert Plant.

Typical jack bluesy rock goodness

I’d listen again

Who would’ve thought a whiteboy would bring the blues back

4.5 This one took a few listens to grow on me as I felt irrational loyalty to the White Stripes, but this is pretty unquestionably just as good if not better. Sixteen Saltines, Freedom At 21, I'm Shakin' (admittedly a cover), and Trash Tongue Talker rip. The finish is a bit weaker but not a clunker to be found.

Gelungen

sounds to me like typical 2010s sounds of college rock...mixed with blues i really like the piano parts. feel like i will go back to this album, it grows on me

I thought this was as good or better than the white stripes albums. These guys must love jack white. I think I’ve listened to 70 albums and 3 of them have been his.

an upbeat modern take on blues rock. quality from start to finish, don’t miss this one. highlights: “sixteen saltines”, “weep themselves to sleep”, “i’m shakin’ “

Pretty good.

Not as charming as peak white stripes, but still incredibly interesting and powerful rock. Loved the way typical songs were structured in unexpected ways.

this was an album i was pretty into when it came out but i haven't listened to it in quite a while now. listening to it now, it feels like an old friend, but also not anything crazy here. i think a lot of it just sounds like "music jack white would make" and doesn't stray too far from that - there are some unique flourishes here (some woodwinds etc.) but it still kind of sounds like all the music he's ever made. the standout here for me is "sixteen saltines" but, once again, this feels like a white stripes song. and i'm not complaining, i quite like jack white's style and production/sound, but i don't know if this is anything more special than any of his other work, especially in the sense of "i have to hear this before i die"

Very nice listening

Sounds kinda like if Mick Jagger blew up in the 2010s

Not a bad record but also not his best. I wonder who suggested to put it up here.

What an amazing guitarist. He’s up there with the greats!

I'm Shakin'. Exmiembro de White Stripes.

This feels like Jack White unleashed himself

Noch einmal hörbarer Blues Rock.

Quality album in all respects!

Flott rokk eins og við var að búast., fullt af góðum lögum. Var sérstaklega hrifinn Missing pieces í þessari hlustun og svo er Im shakin eins klassískt Jack White rokk og það gerist.

I've had this album for a decade, but it's not one I spin up in its entirety very often since I think it's uneven. The good tracks are really good, and they're all unique, so this is pretty good overall.

Never actually listened to this before. Very Nice - enjoyable and unique. 4 stars

I enjoyed this when it was new, and again now. Not an all-time great in my book, but Jack's influence on music of this era is undeniable.

Pretty decent. Not fantastic, but better than expected

Listened Before? N Good album! Jack White is probably one of the most recognizable and consistent modern alternative artists. I like his stuff. The simplicity of his songs is both the main draw and the main drawback, but I'm not tired of this one yet and I plan on keeping it fresh by not listening too often. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Sixteen Saltines

Jack's second best solo album IMO, behind Lazaretto. I like his solo work because it is a bit off the wall compared to his bands. Can be really interesting even if it doesn't always hit the mark.

Pretty cool

Favorite Track: Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy Sixtine Saltines I’m Shakin’

Que lindo siempre encontrarse a Jacksito y sus riffs rabiosísimos.

Awesome tunes to come back every once in a while!

I liked it a lot!!

Banger tracks

I loved this album when it came out, but I hadn't listened to it in awhile. I enjoyed revisiting these songs.

Jammin

I've listened to Jack White before and not understood why he's so highly regarded as an artist, but this album made me think, hmm, I kinda get it.

A solid rock and roll album by Jack. I liked every song. There was enough variation and added texture to make it not seem monotonous or repetitive, but still felt like Jack White all the way through.

Best thing this guy ever did was leave the shitty White Stripes; the worst he's done beyond them is better than the best of the Stripes - this definitely included. This is my first taste of his solo album - more keyboards! I especially like the Rhodes piano right off the bat in "Missing Pieces" and the piano in "Weep Themselves To Sleep" - it's in part due to this instrumentation that catches my ear. The only negative is that a few songs tend to run together. On the other hand, there's not a bad cut in the collection. Might have to add this to the rotation - it's not super-complicated rock but definitely huge steps above almost all other modern rock; the album has a warm sound that comes across as organic and like an actual band. Nice surprise. 7/10 4 stars

Yea, this was pretty good

Very solid. Some very interesting piano and guitar work. Elements of rock, blues, jazz, and even ragtime. Quite varied. Jack's vocals get a bit piercing at times. Very few misses, but there are some. Not a big fan of I'm Shakin' or Take Me With You When You Go. Standout tracks: Sixteen Saltines, Weep Themselves to Sleep

I put this one off for a while upon release cause it just wasn’t The White Stripes. It’s got some rippers. Really cool guitar tones sometimes it sounds like Jack is trying to be himself, but also Bob Dylan and the Beastie Boys. A lot of killer, some filler. I could see a 3/10 on the booty shakability.

I like this album a lot. Much better than the albums that followed.

Just a cool rock album.

Saw Jack White headline a festival a few years ago - was a surprisingly good show, much better than I was expecting. Debut album is a blast - superb guitar work (and sonically fantastic, love that tone he gets). Not all the songs hit the mark but a winner overall.

Liked it over all - Would listen again. Drums sound off in "Freedom at 21"

Inspiration for Yuno Miles

Solid indie-ish album from the White Stripes frontman. Not a single bad song. Creatively blends neighboring genres.

Still feels pretty White Stripey - but with more of a roots rock focus. Back up girl singers, lots of clangy pianos. A fun listen on a Saturday night.

Took a while but I finally got another album I'd heard before. I think it's only been 2 now, which is honestly amazing. Anyway, this was better than I remembered it being, and I remembered it being very good. It really feels like a White Stripes album if their sound was bigger. Maybe that's what he was going for, maybe that's a product of it being released just a year after the band officially broke. Regardless, it's really cool to hear what he could do with a bigger production. The sound of this album is unmistakably Jack White. Gritty, flashy, clever riffs, his signature snarl and sarcasm with a little bit of tongue in cheek humor. He's great at what he does and always has been. I do think his stuff with collaborators is ultimately better (White Stripes and The Raconteurs, namely), but he still produces quality stuff by himself. I do think it goes on a little long, though. There are some songs that could've either been saved for another album, or else cut entirely and released as B-sides. It's definitely top heavy too, with the first half being better than the second. Maybe this was a George Harrison "All Things Must Pass" situation where he dumped a lot of the stuff he'd been working on that wasn't fit for the White Stripes onto here once he had the freedom. I dunno. Anyway, 4 stars. Standout tracks: Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, Freedom at 21, Love Interruption, Hypocritical Kiss, Weep Themselves to Sleep, I'm Shakin', Trash Tongue Talker

For this list I've reviewed two albums from Jack White's band The White Stripes, and I generally like White's work. I've heard a few tracks from Jack's other work, including (I think) the title track from Blunderbuss and "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy". I liked both of those tracks and "I'm Shakin'" and "Love Interruption". I liked the link back to old gospel in "Love Interruption" and links to blues on this album. There wasn't anything I didn't like, and I could come back for a second listen.

Fuck Yeah! Justo venia escuchando a Jack estos días. Un álbum bastante rockero y con las sonoridades extrañas que le dan su toque indiscutible. Uno de los mejores dentro de su discografía.

Enjoyed this quite a lot, can't remember specifics now since I listened yesterday

Previously rated: The White Stripes - Get Behind Me Satan (4/5) *************************************************** I guess I'm a Jack White fan now. I listened to this twice. Great organ/piano playing, drums, a variety of genres. The only thing holding it back for me, and just a bit, is the vocals, especially the distortion. But when he has backup singers singing too, it sounds good. I loved the final track, Take Me With You When You Go. Also enjoyed I'm Shakin' and Hip Poor Boy, but the whole album is pretty solid, maybe a 5/5 if I listen some more.

First, thanks to Pawn Stars for knowing what a blunderbuss is/was. My first time listening to Jack White outside a couple White Stripes songs and this may be my surprise listen of 2024. I was very impressed with the variety of sounds and styles off the album. Guitar rock, blues, some country rock and the heavy piano thrown in there halfway through was unexpected, but surprise highlight for me. I really enjoyed this album from beginning to end. I will definitely revisit this album and will be checking more out this guy's stuff. It was fun listening at work, it was fun listening when working out and I can't wait to listen when it's warm enough to sit on the back deck, baking down and watching the sun settle into the night. A few of my favorites, Sixteen Saltines, Missing Pieces, Trash Tongue Talker and I'm Shakin. Again, I really enjoyed most of the album and will be downloading a good portion. Shout out to Emily who has stated she thought I would enjoy this guy if I gave a listen. I listened and I enjoyed very much. 4

Musically, this is pretty good. But I’m not a fan of Jack White’s singing voice. It seems like a cross between Cheech Marin on “Earache My Eye” and the guy from Red Hot Chili Peppers. Which is not (IMHO) a good thing. But again, musically it it good. The songwriting is solid, the sound is good, nice variations in instrumentation and tone. There’s a lot of very nice piano scattered around. As the album progresses, I’m floating around between 3 and 4. But the further this goes the more I lean 4. Definitely will need to listen again. 4/5

Well put together. Jack really shows off his ability to write and produce amazing music.

Strong opening (tracks 1 to 7), drops off in the middle (8 to 11) and a nice close out (12 & 13). When it’s good it’s absolutely brilliant - all energy and craziness, and some thoughtful storytelling. I love the mix of instruments on here and a great guest appearance by Karen Elson. A low 4. Prefer his work as ‘The Raconteurs’, especially ‘Help Us Stranger’…one of my favourite albums of the last 10 years.

Love Jack White!

Very solid.

Pretty solid

As i guitarist its fun to listen to popy guitar based music, and see it work And this works. I liked it 3.5

Obviously heard of Jack white and had already received his white stripes album here, it was nice expecting same vibe here. Fuck I just saw the crow in the cover, even better it became. First song, judge me all you want, I like this kind of songs, it's full and it's almost rapping. Only thing I don't find really fun is this guitar riffs(not sure about the name) it's fine just sometimes overused. I like the instrumental break. Outro is without any beat or instrument, but he sings a little, at the very end guitar comes and goes quickly. I'd say with my new grading system, 8.8/10. Second song, yes this is "noise" for some, but I low key like this, rock isn't even my favourite genre, but this kinda songs are just differently good, especially with jack. It was a short, but outro was quite good and full. Not better than the first one so 8.4/10 Third song, I like his fast singing. Guitar is always good here. I want his voice more tho. There is this adlib like thing he does when he starts the verse, which I love. Progressive and weird instrumental break. He sings then smth else sings back in (). Not better than the last one so 8.1/10, still the vibe was great. Fourth song, it's slow for now, but I hear progressing guitar. Songs are mostly about love, I think. It's slightly bad without the fullness that songs before had, but still doing it's job. I was wrong about the progressiveness, it is slightly doing that, however, not exactly. There was a woman voice joined, kinda unique, but not from jack. 7.6/10. 5th song, this one's slower. I'd call this one "noise" it's too basic. Thing is first two songs had this vibe that is good in every song, while to me slow ones need some more work to be considered well. I like the outro instrumental, ruined by his vocals sadly. 7.4/10. 6th song, I like the name tbh. Apparently there is two POVs here, funn. Noone knows who the song is about. Smn said to read the verses vice versa, and they make sense that way more. I loved the concept of this song, soo I guess 8/10 for that, plus it wasn't annoyingly slow. 7th song, fast start, with them instruments. Apparently this song is about how free Jay z and Kanye are at expressing themselves, which jack lacks of. I mean it's 2012 and I'm not surprised though I dunno what made him write this song exactly. I like the piano before the lyrics start. The guitar screeching started. Mm not bad, 7.8/10, not unique or catchy enough. 8th song, he's louder here, especially in the headphones. The choir and the clapping is amazing here, plus now the guitar and this thing in my right ear beating. Woow that instrumental break at exactly half time passed. Oh the woman sang a little, these choir really ate with the coming ins. This was energetic and different, 8.9/10. 9th song, such a nice start, his singing not so much. Piano is magnificent. It's very classical rock vibed. Oh I love the instrumental break at 1:12, the fast piano is giving Chuck Berry. It came back, I really love itt. It got harder at the end. This was solid 8.5/10. 10th song, was slow now it's half full. Liking the instrument in my right ear, piano in the middle too. His voice is much better here, less scratched. He talks fast here, best thing he does on this album. Piano got faster in the background(or not). Quite easy listening, I'd say 8.3/10. 11th song, loving the start with the piano, it ended now it's just beats, and he started singing, I don't like it anymore. He sings too boringly sometimes, even though there is another guy singing same in my right ear with him. Now only he's singing, lasted short. Piano solo, messy one. Telling me to sleep, how considerate. 7.3/10, I wanted more. 12th song, long intro seems worth it, it's slowly using all the instruments. Satisfyingly slow it is. Background voiced he sings the chorus. Very relaxing, nothing is happening, not complaining though. His voice changed, and woman is joined in. Pause, Guitar slowly existing and he also slowly comes in, the beat came in, piano in the left, I was expecting smth apparently nothing, oh nevermindd it got low key hard at the end. It was better than the last one so 7.6/10. 13th song, Papa's pizzeria soundtrack like start tbh, I love it. This is one of the best because of that beat, oh it changed to jazzy one. It's so chill too. Such long instrumental break. Piano in the left ear, some instrument in my right ear, and electric guitar? His vocals have changed, old beat is gone. Women voice came now. Sounds like a totally different song. There was two songs here I think. Outro is progressive, fast and interesting plus both of their voices in sync, perfect ending I suppose. 9.1/10 definitely, because of the concept. Quite nice soundss I've heard today. This was not as different from other rock albums, but it had differentness and wasn't just annoying uninteresting noise. Basically 4 stars, I didn't expect any more or less.

This was great, thought I knew JW but really lively throughout 4/5

Not so bad.

As a huge Jack White fan, I was excited to see this album on this list. Blunderbuss is a great solo debut, capturing the many reasons of what makes Jack White one of greats of his time: killer guitar tone, old school feels, thoughtful lyrics. Some magic is missing from this album, especially when comparing it to Jack White’s work with the White Stripes and Raconteurs. Overall, 4/5. Favorite track: Take me with you when you go

Not too bad, a bit middle of the road but listenable

Im Stil der 70 Rock Klassiker, erinnert an Led Zeppelin und Supertramp

Love all things Jack White and love this album. Really diverse set of songs, ranging from a more garage rock sound that we know and love from The White Stripes to more country inspired tracks. Lots of really catchy melodies all over the record. I think I'm only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 so that I have room for higher ratings on my more preferred Jack White projects/albums

I love how experimental and in your face all of his music is.

Album really shows of Jack's musical prowess beyond the simple catchy White Stripes era.

I was surprised it was as good as it was. Some really great tracks.

Muy buena música , gran variedad de notas que se complementan muy bien con su voz.

Abwechslungsreicher als erwartet

I like the White Stripes, and I REALLY like The Raconteurs, byr I'd never heard this album before. Needless to say, I liked it. There is no real standout track, but it's solid JackWhiteMusic from start to finish. Good album.

I liked this a lot more than when it was originally released. A pleasant surprise.

Good cronch. Made me want to listen to some Cage the Elephant after.

I never really "got" the White Stripes, so this was a pleasant surprise.

Very nice

Love interruption was pretty good

Nice and upbeat

For blue days

Definitely my favourite (solo) Jack White album. Teeters the line between folk and blues rock really well with a bit his signature garage-y twist. Really showcases Jack White's varied musical influences and his strong abilities. Fav Tracks: Sixteen Saltines, Love Interruption, I'm Shakin'

Ratings: 5: I will happily play this album anytime 4: I may occasionally play this album of my own free will 3: I will happily listen to this if someone plays it in the background 2: I will tolerate this if it is playing in the background 1: I will leave the room if someone plays this in the background

I’m genuinely thankful for the contributions that Jack White has made to rock music. I love just about everything he puts his hands on. Fun to revisit this album. Enjoyed it multiple times over the weekend. I’m not sure I can fully distinguish it from what he does with The White Stripes other than having more instrumentation. But maybe that’s what you need to do when your claim to fame is a two-piece. Loved the electric piano on this album. Solid through and through.

Very good. Blues. Rock. Great guitar riffs.

This is my first exposure to Jack White and am so impressed. Love the variety of styles- swing, jazz, rock, folk. Such talent!

Good Jack White album before he ventured into the overly "weird" side.

Such a well curated album. Not my typical listen, but great nonetheless.

Great, love this

Absolutely timeless album. It was totally new to me, and it could have released in '92 or '02 and I wouldn't have known the difference. Top of my "to buy" vinyl list.

I've never given Jack White a fair chance, and have never really listened to the White Stripes outside of the hits. While this album doesn't feel evergreen to me, there's a few songs on here I can see myself coming back to. It's a fun project, and I'm definitely interested in exploring more of his/White Stripes as a whole.

This is one of those albums that is just so incredibly well rounded I don't see how anyone could genuinely dislike it. Jack White is the master of his own style and blends so much shit so goddamn well. It feels more like a proof of talent for White rather than something a little more thematically focused like he had done with the Stripes. Nonetheless, it's still really incredible and is definitely added to my purchase list. Highlights for me here are Sixteen Saltines, Blunderbuss, Weep Themselves to Sleep, I'm Shakin', and Take Me With You When You Go.

Good album

i think i prefer his work with the white stripes, but still great. the album starts much stronger than it ends (or maybe i enjoy these alone rather than a whole albums worth in a go). songs like sixteen saltines are very nice, i like his more rhythmic singing in it combined with great riffs.

I always love when artists try to expand/branch out from what they’re most popular for even if it means losing some of that popularity. This won’t be remembered the same way that elephant is but it’s just as worthy of recognition in its own way even if I personally liked white stripes music slightly more. Jack took some of his white stripes sounds and made it funky and bluesy which I think worked really well. I’m shakin was probably my favorite track and sixteen saltines was also a standout.

Jack White’s first album after the break up of the White Stripes continues his unique brand of Detroit garage and DIY rock. Sonically this album runs the gamut from overdriven and fuzzy guitars, organs, and some slide guitar. Once again White shows that he is not only familiar with music history, he is capable of folding his influences into his signature style. While this album isn’t as good as the best of the White Stripes, it still holds its own against his recorded output.

Love the Blues and rock baseline for this album and after that, how experimental and complex some songs can get.

I waffled back and forth between a 3-star and a 4-star rating for this one. And I'm still not sure if I chose correctly. On the one hand, Jack White's weirdness is really off-putting at times. But, on the other hand, the grooves and production are just SO GOOD. Like... insanely good. I don't know how to feel about the album as a whole. But... I think I really liked it. Mostly. I think.

Iconic, love this album!!

* Sixteen Saltines - this is a fucking BOP let's go!!! I actually added a ton of these songs to my Liked Songs playlist so that alone shows me I really enjoyed this album. Must be a Detroit thing. :)

Holds up pretty well, but not Jack’s best. 3.5/5

Solo jack white is great. Was suprised at how much I liked some songs. Deserves a 4

Blues rock. Es el de The White Stripes. Un 4.

bom album, rockzao consistente

It is the first time I listen to jack white solo. - blues/rock - really great sound mix

This guy sounds just like the guy from the White Stripes

Really great blues rock. I like just about everything Jack White makes. This record was much more varied in style than I thought it would be. Favorite songs are Sixteen Saltines, Weep Themselves To Sleep, and his version of I’m Shakin’.

I liked this one. Would listen again.

An enjoyable album, would listen to it again.

8.5/10

Raw drivng Rock

I wasn’t in the mood for this at first and was going to give it a 3, but it has charm and is well-made. I probably wouldn’t be inclined to listen to the whole album again, though it’s fun in smaller doses. 3.5 rounded up.

Great rock with bluesy undertones. "Weep themselves asleep" is the clear favourite

I know I haven't listened to enough of Jack White's music because whenever I do, I like it. This is a very good album. I know it's his debut album but there's already a maturity and intelligence to his work and a dark ironic sense of humor. He's a superb multi-instrumentalist and I honestly think he's one of the best guitarists out there.

I forgot how good his solo debut was...

Great album! Found myself really liking a lot of the songs and wanting to go back and listen. There is one cheeseball piano song that sounds like a 1950’ s song that made me roll my eyes but all in all, loved this one.

Brilliant! Good sound. The White Stripes were always Jack White. This is my first time listening to the album... didn't actually know any of the songs. Standouts: Sixteen Saltines, Missing Pieces, Freedom at 21, Love Interruption, I'm Shakin', Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy, Others: Blunderbuss, Hypocritical Kiss, I Guess I Should Go to Sleep, On and On and On, Machine Gun Silhouette. Rating: 4/5

Very well-produced and unique album. The only reason it gets four stars is because it’s not a style of music I usually listen to so I don’t know that I’ll revisit it anytime soon.

Released in 2012, "Blunderbuss" marks Jack White's debut solo album after the dissolution of The White Stripes and his various other musical ventures. The album encapsulates the multifaceted nature of White's musical prowess, showcasing his skills as a songwriter, musician, and producer. Lyrics: The lyrical content of "Blunderbuss" delves into themes of love, heartbreak, and introspection. White's lyrical approach is both poetic and introspective, revealing a vulnerability not as prominently seen in his previous works. The album's opener, "Missing Pieces," sets the tone with enigmatic lyrics that invite listeners to piece together the complexities of relationships. In "Love Interruption," White explores the paradoxes of love, addressing its beauty and destructive potential. Throughout the album, his lyrics are a blend of raw emotion and clever wordplay, contributing to the album's depth. Pros: Poetic Depth: White's lyrical prowess shines, showcasing a newfound emotional depth. Variety in Themes: The album explores a range of emotions, adding a layer of complexity to the overall narrative. Cons: Occasional Ambiguity: Some may find the abstract nature of certain lyrics a bit challenging to interpret. Music: "Blunderbuss" is a sonic kaleidoscope, weaving through various genres with White's signature blues-rock at its core. The album features a diverse array of instruments, including piano, fiddles, and steel guitars. White's guitar work is as virtuosic as ever, and his ability to seamlessly blend genres, evident in tracks like "Sixteen Saltines" and "Freedom at 21," showcases his musical dexterity. The music is both energetic and contemplative, providing a dynamic listening experience. Pros: Genre Fusion: The album masterfully blends blues, rock, and folk, showcasing White's versatility. Instrumentation: The diverse instrumentation adds layers to the sound, creating a rich auditory experience. Cons: Lack of Cohesion for Some Listeners: The eclectic nature of the music might be disorienting for those seeking a more cohesive sonic journey. Production: As the sole producer of the album, Jack White maintains a raw and authentic sound reminiscent of his earlier work. The analog recording process imparts a warmth and organic quality to the tracks. The production emphasizes the live feel, capturing the essence of each performance. White's decision to record in various studios contributes to the album's sonic diversity while maintaining a cohesive overall sound. Pros: Authenticity: The production preserves the genuine, unpolished essence of White's musical expression. Dynamic Soundscapes: The use of different studios enhances the sonic diversity, making each track a unique experience. Cons: Intentional Roughness: Some listeners may find the intentional rawness of the production less polished compared to contemporary studio-perfected albums. Themes: "Blunderbuss" grapples with themes of love, heartache, and self-discovery. White's exploration of these themes is nuanced, delving into the intricacies of human relationships. The album serves as a canvas for White to paint his emotional landscape, with each track contributing a different hue. From the introspective "Blunderbuss" to the defiance in "I'm Shakin'," the thematic diversity adds layers to the listening experience. Pros: Emotional Range: The album covers a broad emotional spectrum, providing a comprehensive exploration of its themes. Personal Reflection: White's introspective approach offers listeners a glimpse into his personal journey. Cons: Potential Overload: The abundance of themes might overwhelm listeners seeking a more straightforward narrative. Influence: "Blunderbuss" showcases White's ability to evolve while staying true to his roots. The album undoubtedly draws inspiration from blues, rock, and folk traditions, yet it also marks a departure from The White Stripes' minimalist aesthetic. White's influence on subsequent artists is evident in the revival of interest in analog recording methods and a return to more organic musical styles. Pros: Innovative Fusion: White's fusion of genres and willingness to experiment paves the way for a new generation of musicians. Impact on Analog Resurgence: The album contributes to the resurgence of interest in analog recording methods. Cons: Expectations of Continuity: Some fans may have expected a more direct continuation of The White Stripes' sound, potentially finding the album's eclecticism surprising. In conclusion, "Blunderbuss" is a testament to Jack White's artistic evolution. The album's strengths lie in its lyrical depth, musical diversity, authentic production, thematic richness, and lasting influence. While its eclecticism may not resonate with everyone, the album stands as a bold and multifaceted expression of Jack White's musical identity.

Playing Catch Up on the Weekends. I've always like Jack White Stripes, but had never sat down to listen to a full album of either. I was also surprised to discover I didn't know any of these songs, even the singles. This reminds me a lot of when Panic at the Disco! was not a pop band. Their second album, Pretty Odd, experimented with different types of sound, as this one does. The bluesy Blunderbuss, the piano-heavy Hypothetical Kiss and Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy were my favorites.

He is an amazing musician, and I Love the vibe. I have a slight resistance to the sound is all. so, 4

November 24, 2023 Jack's first solo album. Quite a few great tracks, would put this on again from start to finish. Doesn't stray too far from the White Stripes, bit more polished but still loud guitar rock.

I like this better than his White Stripes output, felt like the same vein as T-Rex at times.

Underrated banger: this felt instantly familiar when I only really knew one song from the length of this album. Maybe the nostalgia of hearing it as a child gives this record extra brownie points but it felt somewhat fresh and engaging. The progressions felt familiar but executed in a way which you don't quite expect, it was just a fun album.

I like the sound a lot. But one, I just feel like it’s the kind of music that sounds better live. And two, I couldn’t listen to it for too long. But overall, very cool and funky. I’d give it 3.5.

I like Jack White a lot, but he doesn't differentiate himself from the Stripes enough. Still a lot of fun to listen to.

I get this weird feeling from Jack White. Like there is some sort of weird southern Gothic alternate universe he has come from. And he has seen things no one else has seen. The music is solid.

I like jack white as it turns out.

Gid vibe.

Even if I think every Jack White project sounds similar I thinks it sounds so unique and distinctive from what every other band would release at that time. Love this album, been playing it on repeat for a few days.

What an album to start with. Jack has done a lot for the conceptualizaton of rock music and a lot for the city of Detroit. This album mixes rock, folk, blues, and classical music in ways that most artists could only dream of. Jack doesn’t miss. I could say these things for most of his catalog though. I think Weep Themselves To Sleep is my favorite track on this album.

Had more depth than I remember. Appreciated the southern/Appalachian influence. Classic jack white lyrically and musically. Lack of diversity in instrumentation but he managed to make it a well rounded album anyway. 3.5/5

Jack White?

As yesterday, not my style, not fan of the vocals specifically, but I enjoyed the musicality and production. Good album, just not for me

Beautiful and chunky sound. Pretty delightful and easy to listen to

I like it! Great showcase of Jack White's musicianship.

This is better than some of the classic White Stripes albums. I think it's a good example of Jack, and he seems to have found his sound.

3.7/5 First couple tracks are solid but I feel like it falls off a bit. Overall not as good as the White Stripes albums.

Great production. Blues, country, roots of rock and roll. Will probably aim to give it another listen in the near future.

I like his loud, cool and raw style. The album is also not too long, so it doesn't outstay its welcome. Pretty good!

Heartfelt

Thinking backon my life, Jack White has always been there, like some sort of cosmic constant. White Stripes, thru the Raconteurs and now this. Keep on keeping on Jack my boy.

Some good songs, some neh. 3-4/5

Very enjoyable but kind of throwaway and disposable. I can't say I paid particular attention to the lyrics but the bluesy rock vibes were entertaining enough on their own. Not a cohesive work of art by itself, but fun enough to dip in and out of, loud American road trip aesthetics. 17/10/23

the album art screams emo, but don't be deceived. I'd need more time to decide if I really like this, but it seems decent.

Best parts of The White Stripes with a live drummer. Easy listening from start to finish

Good stuff though I have to say I much prefer his White Stripes stuff to any of his later output.

Frenetic and hyper kinetic Jack White delivers an impulsive and stylish alt rock record.

Interesting, unexpected. Rush vibes. Enjoyed.

10/10/23. I’m a huge fan of all of Jack White’s work so this album is always enjoyable. I still like Lazaretto as my favorite JW solo album.

Putting aside any feeling I have about Jack White as a person, I have to admit this album was better than I expected. I think the musicians had so much fun here with the standout being Brooke Waggoner on the piano. If you took away the vocals in a song like Weep Themselves to Sleep, it still remains an absolute banger. Standouts: Missing Pieces, Sixteen Saltines, Freedom at 21, Blunderbuss

Holy shit the video for Sixteen Saltines is the most punk shit I have ever seen. Love Interruption is a good song. Blunderbuss is a good song. I'm Shakin' is a blues swing rocker. Wow, a really strong modern blues rock album that is worth revisiting.

Some of these low play counts surprised me. Enjoyed the album as a whole a good deal

Buen disco de rock, con buenas melodías, buena voz y ritmos agradables. Para tener en cuenta

Great album overall, with some forgettable tracks. Love Interruption kicks ass though

Yeah it was alright

great fucking album! I loved it

Jack White is old school and new school all in one. You can't think of him without Seven Nation Army... but this is one heck of a good album. His sound is just that unique!

Great energy, feels carefully crafted, well produced. The bluesy-rock is aggressive and his vocal delivery seems easy to engage. Really strong, enjoyable.

I enjoyed this more than I expected to. Thinking of the White Stripes and how... simple their music comes across sometimes, "Blunderbuss" is a major step up from that. There's definitely a wider range of song styles going form one track to the next. Definitely something I would listen to again. Favorite tracks: "Sixteen Saltines," "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy," "Missing Pieces"

This is a very solid album. It feels like a White Stripes album, probably because Meg always took a backseat to Jack and this is all Jack. It has those rocking songs with lots of tempo and unique guitar sounds (Sixteen Saltines, Freedom at 21, I'm Shakin), those softer songs with other sounds like piano (Blunderbuss, Hypocritical Kiss), and those in-betweeners that change tempos and styles and sounds as they go along (Missing Pieces, Love Interruption, Take Me With You When You Go). As much as I liked all those songs and this album, I find something holding me back from a 5. Not sure if it's some kind of bias where I don't want to gush over every garage rock artist or Jack White solo from the White Stripes. Or maybe the last third of the album dipped just a bit.

Interesting album. Sounds like jack white

Realy good. The last track really brought it up for me.

I imagine it'll grow on me a little over time, and it's a low 4, but it's still good. I quite like Jack White. An issue with his music, however, is that I'm not crazy about blues, so sometimes his music is too bluesy for me, but other times, he can pull off blues in a way I can enjoy. This issue is still present on this album, but I don't mind it on a lot of the tracks. Most of the tracks here are good. My favourite song was Freedom at 21.

Love interruption is my favorite I think

Doesn't hit as hard as when I first heard it, but still satisfying

Rating: 4.1

Repeated listens. Jack White is talented.

Hidden gem here, at least for me. Was willing to listen back to back if it wasn't for that darned work

very dance-y!

4.5 stars. Jack White's solo debut showcases his well-rounded musical prowess. Blues rock that incorporates jazz, hip-hop, folk/country, piano ballad, and more. Standouts are "Take Me With You When You Go", "Freedom At 21", and "Sixteen Saltines".

I think Jack's less popular songs get way overshadowed by the mainstream ones but this album is solid Track highlight: Trash Tongue Talker

Typical Jack white album. I liked a couple of the songs. It was overall alright

It’s interesting to hear a great musician that wrote songs contemporarily to your current life - there a certain better understanding and comfort - after all this exercise is twitchy and all over the place in that respect - it’s an erratic time capsule that can leave a little dizzy 600+ albums in. This record is short, concise, fun, well paced with Jack White’s usual highly strung gusto - almost every song stands out - and despite Jack’s penchant for hipster retro cool - the songs sound like they are written at this time by someone who is experiencing the world almost in the same manner, well at least in the same timeline. I missed that feeling - that the music I’m listening to feels like it’s written for me as an audience - and that gives me pleasure.

Very good. Want to listen some more

3rd Jack White record this year for me, after the two 2022 releases; 4th if you include White Blood Cells from this generator. I've been hesitant so far to join the bandwagon of acclaim that he receives, but this is the most consistently great record I've heard from him so far (I'll get around to Elephant & Consolers of the Lonely at some point). I guess the only problem I really have with it is in the context of the 1001 book. Due to the limited 21st century albums, this pretty straightforward rock-and-roll album from an artist already on the list a couple of times isn't the most compelling choice, at least on the surface. I could say the same of Black Keys' Brothers, but that record also slaps. So how can I complain about Blunderbuss when it's just so pleasant to listen to HL: "Hypocritical Kiss", "Sixteen Saltines", "Freedom at 21", "Love Interruption", "Hip (Eponymous) Poor Boy" September 4, 2023

More timey-twisty than typical White, for the best. The late addition of prog - question mark - seals this one as a strong not-really-debut.

better than the two white stripes albums we've had, i think. more broadly enjoyable.

Liked it!

I didn't expect to like this album very much, but the whole album is keyboard heavy which adds a tone and texture I didn't know that Jack White used. Worth extra listenings. Missing Pieces (cool keyboards) Weep Themselves To Sleep I'm Shakin' Trash Tongue Talker Hip Poor Boy Guess I Should Go To Sleep On and On and On

Jack White is an amazing musician and steward of music history. Nothing quite touches the brilliance of early White Stripes, but every endeavor he has pursued since have delivered terrific music. I haven't listened to his more recent stuff, but from the first decade post-White Stripes I would rate "Blunderbuss" and the solo work above The Dead Weather, but below The Raconteurs.

One thing I’ve learned over these 609 albums is that Jack White is a musical savant. I’d love to pick his brain about music in general and guitar playing. Once again I’m digging his distorted, bluesy rock sound.

Funny that this was one of my missed album. Amanda sent me a white stripes song while I was out. I do like this style.

Gets better as the album progresses. Solid album with a Beatles influence.

Listen - you and I both know I love Jack White. This is my least favorite of his solo albums and I rarely pick it up but it was nice to revisit. You can hear a lot of the musical themes he uses again and again in later work, fun.

Not my favorite album of his, but still good.

This was okay! Not as rocky as The White Stripes but enjoyable all the same. Happy to hear more from Jack in whatever form it comes.

Appreciate the music, but not for me.

Didn't really want to like this album but it was a really pleasant surprise. Not really into Jack White or White Stripes, but this was an enjoyable listen. I'm between a 3 and a 4, see how I feel in the morning

Fun. Heavy and lighthearted at the same time

I'm Shakin'. Exmiembro de White Stripes.

I enjoyed practically the whole album :D

I don't have a lot to say about this album, but it was really good overall. Lots of different musical influences coming together, but it works more like a soup than a salad 4/5

his best solo

Very strong melodies and instrumentation. Lyrics are a little pretentious and goofy at times, but nothing too damning.

Very good

Actually thought this was pretty cool. I haven’t really gone deep into Jack White but it had a good energy, and you gotta respect a good fuzz guitar.

Solid rock album.

Honkey-tonkey-punky-rockin-and-rollin-singin the blues. Great fun, upbeat album.

Meer piano dan ik verwachtte. Wel een goed album

This is another case of an artist who I like the vibe of, but the songs all kinds blur together. Also Blunderbuss the song really wants to be Isis by Dylan. Still it's a pretty good jam in the whole.

Love it! Hooks for days.
