Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Nada muy especial.

Brit pop kinda vibes

Found this annoying

Parts of the album were ok, but I'm not dying to hear more.

This is what the Beatles would hace sounded like if they existed in 1996.

Nothing special with this one.

Eh. Basic mid-90s rock with an accent. Didn't do much to move the needle. About what I expected from SFA.

Nothing to see here, move along

Super Furry Animals' "Fuzzy Logic," released in 1996, is a mixed bag that struggles to find coherence. While tracks like "Hometown Unicorn" and "Something for the Weekend" exhibit the band's quirky creativity, the album as a whole lacks a clear identity. The experimental elements often veer into chaos, making the listening experience disjointed. Some may appreciate the eclecticism, but for others, it can feel like a collection of ideas in search of a unifying theme. While it marks the beginning of the band's career, "Fuzzy Logic" falls short of delivering a consistently engaging musical journey, warranting a 2/5 rating.

Forgettable. I listened to this album and it was out of my brain so fast I had to listen again one more time but the sound just doesn't raise any flags for me. Doesn't stand out from any other music I've heard and I just don't really get the appeal. There aren't any hits on this album and the best thing I can say is that the sound quality is consistent? idk 4/10

#31. Weird British 70s retroism from the 90s psychedelic pop type... something. Not bad enough to make you want to rage quit, but certainly not very compelling either. Yeah, I don't know. 2/5: meh

Lidt intetsigende britpop rock

Fuzzy shit 💩💩

standard 90s altrock

Some of these entries I think basically sneak onto the list for doing stuff out of the ordinary for the era. But the problem is I'm listening to like a 70-year archive in random order, so this doesn't feel like the breath of fresh air it might've felt like at the time, and instead just reminds me of 70s groups that I like more

So towards the end I really started disliking this. I’m not sure what about it maybe the really bad singing or just the music. I’m not disgusted by this album I think just rather bored?

Wish version of the Beatles.

Meh - some interesting guitar here and there, but much too bombastic and over the top for what it has to offer melodically/thematically. Was hoping the instrumentation could carry this LP early on, but that too became cluttered and excessive near the end as well.

Interesting but likely not memorable.

Very 90s and very Britpop. inoffensive and bland, kinda formulaic.

I'm sure this is not totally fair, just a first impression, but this sounded eclectic in a forced sort of way. And at the same time they kept sounding like a dead ringer for Blur, which I suppose I can dismiss as a consequence of the time and place. I could see this growing on me as I understand what makes it unique, but the first couple listens have been underwhelming.

They sound like they're trying to be deliberately annoying. Like they're making a Britpop album, but they feel slightly guilty and self conscious about it, so they do it all tongue in cheek and sarcastic. Also has a weird sort of showtune undercurrent to it - like it could be the soundtrack to some pretentious musical.

Sounds like a bad Elvis Costello and I don’t even like Elvis Costello.

The general sound is upbeat and quirky, a little grungy, and little punky, and it sounds like music that could have been recorded in the 1970s. It seems to work for this album, but the album didn't seem to work for me. It started to hold my interest around track 8 but then it disappeared again by the last track. I was disinterested during most of the album, and it's highly unlikely that I'll return to it.

This is pretty classic British noise.

It was ok. Instrumentation was ok. Vocals between ok and not so good. Something seems off with the overall sound. Fuzzy

Uninteresting and never got good

I heard “Inaugural Trams” a while ago and always meant to listen to more from this band. I feel like on paper I should’ve really liked this record, but every good moment came along with 2 or 3 moments I didn’t care for, and in the end I just didn’t enjoy it. 13 years of distance between this record and “Trams,” I suppose I should give their later stuff more of a chance.

This feels like the modern version of The Monkees, minus the hits. Songs and vocals didn't do it for me, but at least there were real instruments?

This is like if you modernized David Bowie music but then took away the musical talent to perform the songs. Not too sure what appeal this has overall except maybe that it’s British and kind of has similar qualities to 70s glam pop. This is pretty poorly executed and not too enjoyable to listen to. Not gonna revisit 4.6/10

I was too preoccupied to listen to so many tracks. I listened to an album’s worth and wasn’t really engaged so a measly 2*

The odd really good song but quite a lot of dross I thought. Was disappointing...

I am mystified as to why this is here.

Not a bad album, but pretty boring. A good chunk of the songs had a decent hook they did nothing with, and I believe had this album released in the era the Super Furry Animals are trying to emulate, it would've been a release that just blends in with the rest of the timeframe. Voice wasn't as annoying as most other Britpop, though, so that is a plus, I guess.

No standout tracks for me there. 2*

Barely tolerable mediocre nothing rock.

Pretty theatrical, alright, not much to say to be honest! 2.5

Immediately left me with a fuzzy memory of its contents.

maybe i'm just generally pretty lukewarm on britpop but this kinda reminded me of a worst-of blur album ⭐⭐

A decent album ruined by its production. This is pitched as a psychedelic rock album but it’s actually just a rock album (with some pretty fun and inventive songwriting here and there!) drowned out every few minutes by the tinniest phasing you’ve ever heard

Eeeeeghhh

Perhaps the most middle-of-the-road album to have come from this list so far. One might question how it even got here, but I suppose that something needs to fill the spot of ”most mediocre”. (To be clear, it should not be on this list)

Int särskilt bra... poänglös nostalgi

Ok. But this era/vibe kinda all sounds the same to me

Ei jääny erityisesti mieleen. Olikohan sellasta ilosen olosta rokkirallattelua

Feels soulless, almost like tv show theme songs

i jerked off to furry porn yesterday and today I get told to listen to an album by the "Super Furry Animals" at least I enjoyed myself yesterday

Sounds like a shitty Randy Newman rock band. And Randy himself is already not great. 1.5

Well, they know how to rhyme. That's all I've got. Not my cuppa

Reminiscent of New Pornographers or Supergrass. I’m not sure what sets them apart enough to have an album on this list. I tapped along to most of the songs but couldn’t tell you one now and it’s 30 minutes since I finished.

didn't care for it.

Super Blurry Animals! I had heard a few of these songs before but had always assumed they were by Blur and was never that intrigued to check. This is all very jolly, but to me sounds very derivative.

Nothing special

Sounds very generic to me

Got pretty bored with it.

Not a bad example of it's genre of music.....just really not for me....

Naw. This album isn’t it.

Listened to a few songs but did not really like, maybe feeling burnt out from all of the British bands?

Not quite my tempo.

Trying to hard to be a tribute to Bowie and the seventies in general. Probably very smart, but not for me. One of these songs doesn't really annoy me, but two or more gets irritating.

moest ik dit gehoord hebben (buiten something 4 the weekend) nee.

Interesting band but wasn’t brown away or surprised. Very meh…

Les escuché como parte de la "Brit Pop invasion" pero solo en la radio, nunca compré o me prestaron un disco suyo. Aquí está el "Something 4 the Weekend" o "If you don't want to destroy me". Se puede escuchar pero no es algo imprescindible en mi opinión.

Pool party music from the 90's in the vein of Blur and Weezer. It still charms with its off-kilter vibes and hooks, but for the full experience you had to have been there. I wasn't. Some people still have a hangover from this party: see Wet Leg. Query: What made 90's artists start singing doo doo doo and woo woo woo again?

Pretty good. Need to hear more of this one! 2.5/5

The theremin solo was nice, otherwise, it was boring and forgettable.

Too quirky and overproduced. Lots of irritating sounds in the mix that made me stop halfway through.

Got a lot better as it went. Nice songs or parts of songs. One particularly horrible bit. Conor - 3 Bill - 2 Jane - 2 Shannah - 1.75 (2.2/5)

It is an interesting album, it's just not my thing.

Well, oh well. It's decently crafted, at least, and if I try aiming for objectivity (an impossible task, admittedly), maybe that's three stars. But to be honest, the overall feeling I get from this band (and album) is that it's a subpar version of Blur trying to imitate the Kinks with a few glam or psychedelic sprinklings here and there (nice arragements but rather inconsequential for me given the nature of the songs). Super Furry Animals admittedly got right a lot of ingredients from one of those oh-so-effective britpop formulas. Except from one *key* element: truly *dynamic* melodies and harmonies. So, I'm a little sorry to say this, but overall, this record is way too bland for my rock tastes. And consequently, this "Fuzzy Logic" is gonna get two stars only. Because I can't feel anything listening to this band. The artistic intent and overall sense of pop melody is a little too... fuzzy for me. Number of albums left to review or just listen to: 898 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 53 Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 27 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more important): 23 (including this one)

Totally forgettable

The sound of this album does not seem like it would be a 90s album. It is not that good of an album. I have no desire to listen to this again. Nothing was memorable about it.

This sounds like a conscious effort to make "90s music". Feels like manufactured Gen X slacker vibes, nods to various alternative-ish sounds of the time, and then drenched in Beatles-isms. Not for me. 2/5.

90s copy of 70s. started promising, but quickly fell into annoyance.

Instead of writing a new review that criticizes the overabundance of British-Pop on this lis, I'll just copy/paste my last critique, which was also a Super Furry Animals album - just 12 albums ago. "With all due respect to Glass Animals fans, and fans of late 90s / early 00s BritPop – No. Understanding that the book this list is based on is British and most of it's contributors are British, the amount of unnecessary BritPop on this list is a head-scratcher. Rings around the world is an okay album. It starts off strong and almost halfway into the album I started getting annoyed and frustrated. Yay for the band that they peaked at number three on the UK charts, but across the pond you have to get to the Indie Charts before you even see this album rank a moderate 32 for the year. This is not a list-worthy entry. Perhaps I'm becoming annoyed at the draws that are giving me mediocre UK pop for the the third time in four days, but I'm hopeful tomorrow will be better. 3/5 for musicality | 2/5 for list worthiness."

god this album is totally fine but 90s brit pop is so annoying to me for some reason. cannot imagine ever listening to this again.

I think this might have been a bit too cheesy for my liking. Didn't find anything particularly catchy - just a set of unremarkable pop-ish songs. Nothing to write home about.

Generic Britpop.

Average wannabe indie band. I struggle to see what is super about them.

Adequate Furry Animals.

This is okay. I'm not sure what separates it from other "weird" mid-90s bands. They did seems to use an impressive number of effects - seemingly at random. There were a few songs that I really enjoyed, but - as an album - not so much.

Just bleh

Man, it took me 3 days to get through this. Not because it was particularly bad, but because it never held my attention. Some fun sounds on a few tracks and a catchy hook or two.

A very bland album. Listened to it, had to do something, and already kind of forgot what it sounded like. 4/10.

Not sure why this made the list but it was alright. 90s alternative hippie genre-jumping.

I put this on and it almost immediately faded into the background. Spot checking the most played track and a couple of the others (though the play counts suggest this album is on here for just one song) none of them caught my ear particularly. I discovered after listening that apparently the band can sing entirely in welsh and reckon if they had it would have at least been interesting. As it stands I won't be returning to this one

I couldn't get into it. It's a very diverse album with a bunch of different styles of music (well, different takes on "British guys with guitars", at least) on it, but it comes across as more exhausting than exhilarating.

Nee helaas, 2x geprobeerd maar ik vond er weinig aan

Leek veel belovend maar eindigde in the middle of the road! Vandaag beter, hopelijk

Na een aantal nummers ben ik die psychedelische noise wel een beetje beu.

Dezelfde stem als de zanger van Blur. Muziek vind ik weinig verheffend :)

I'm all for anything that seeks to poke fun at the '90's Brit Pop movement. Some of it holds up nicely. Some of it screams, "We don't give a bloody fuck if we're big in America. America should come to us!" Not for nothing, but I'm nonplussed by the band's name.

forgettable

In general, it was strange for me. I really love psychedelic and, I like glam metal / rock. But their combination has not made an impression on me Unfortunately, the group (album) was not hooked. It singled out three songs for myrself from the album: 1) Long go; 2) Gathering moss And another one is interesting for its history: Hanging with Howard Marks

Pop meio indie meio legal.

Även följande låt, If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You, är ganska bra. Utöver dessa bör även Long Gone nämnas. Den är bra, och låter som något från Babyshambles Sequel to the Prequel. Bästa låt: Gathering Moss.

kinda annoying but an easy enough listen. mario man is pretty good.

mehhhhh its grand and bland - "I just keep repeating myself" the lyircs are shitty get weird beatles vibes but worse "You and I united by itemised bills" maybe the lyrics went over my head but just seems like nonsense and only this song musically caught my attention as acoustic but also meh tried here but itgave me nothing

Exceptionally pedestrian with nothing standing out at all. Bland, boring, unoriginal

honestly i don't remember this album, but i remember it was weird and all the people on the cover look like convicted murderers or sex offenders. IM NOT SAYING THEY R THO 3.5/10

I did listen to this one, but it wasn’t my kind of music. I like pop, but this was not my kind of pop.

Not quite what I was looking for. I like worse music than this but did not like this.

Really uneven vocals and sound mixing was not thrilled

Started well, got worse as it went on

A pretty cool album, but a little all over the place and difficult to follow. The songs I saved I really liked, but the others weren't incredibly memorable Saved: Something 4 the Weekend, Hangin' with Howard Marks

Nothing really interesting here. It's not bad, just not my tempo, I guess.

there's something that doesn't click eventhough i should like it. hey ho.

Almost turned that one off at a couple points, but it was better than sonic youth so it has that going for it...

unmemorable

This failed to grab me and I lost interest fairly quickly

A farmer sips unruly amounts of Blur and churns out this album. A bit so-so for me

With some of these albums I really don't get the "must hear before you die". this was good but quite irrelevant

Unique, I suppose, but I wasn't "wowed."

Nothing special but a nice rock band album

Not the furries!!!

There's something about them I really don't like. I can't point my finger on it. I tried, honest. Absolutely horrible

This is an extremely weak album. 1 star or F+.

gar nicht meins

British pop. Not terrible, but I would never listen to it voluntarily. Reminds me of Pulp, but a tiny bit less annoying.

Didn't feel much.

This was like everything bad about 90s britpop all distilled down together.

I don’t understand how this is in the top 1001 albums, nothing going on here

If Jethro Tull, Madness, and a bad Beatles cover band had an illegitimate baby.

Nope, not for me

I'm not wanting to leave a negative review today So I will simply refer you to the existing 1 and 2 star reviews, who have already done a sterling job of pulling apart the shortcomings of this band

Bad bad bad - can't be bothered with this one

The first song was pretty decent, but after that it devolved into some of the most annoying britpop I've ever heard, which is quite the achievement

More male British rock! Shocking!

Zwischen kreischenden Kettensägen und belanglosem Geschrammel verlaufen sich Hänsel und Gretel im Wald. Sorry, was anderes fällt mir dazu nicht ein.

Long gone is a sad but great song

Forgettable and annoying at the same time

loud. random. low.

I knew this was going to be absolute garbage but I figured I could get through 42 minutes; I was wrong.

I really hated it. It was like Blur but even worse

Not a fan

It's been 12 hours and I don't remember anything at all about this. Completely unmemorable.

I loved the album Rings Around the World. I thought it was unique and cutting edge and give it a glowing review. This was like listening to nothing for 41 minutes. Generic uninteresting brit alt rock. I think I'm especially annoyed because this represents the biggest issue with this list. That there appears to be no editing after the final albums were picked. For artists with undeniable worldwide impact and very musically diverse careers (Beatles, Radiohead, Dolly Parton, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, etc etc), sure, give them multiple great albums. I only need the ONE best super fuzzy animals album (if that). I don't need an awkward, identity-less debut. I'm giving this a one on that principal, combined with the fact that I see no inherent value to this album or any of it's tracks. 1/5

Shouldn't be on the list. Like yeah if you were 26 y/o man in London in 1996 then yeah you probably should listen to this before you die, but that time is over old man.

ive been giving out too many 1s, but i genuinely had to turn this off. so fucking annoying

Fuck this album. What a garbage album. Honestly? There may be some redeeming qualities in the music. But it is plagued by a shitty vocalist who can’t write for shit. Also, wiki the band members. I’m pretty sure everyone in this band is made up. Actually, I’ll add them: gruff Rhys, daffyd leuan, cian ciaran, guto pryce, and how can we forget huw bunford. This record is as forgettable as the band members names. Apparently some dickhead in Europe got a hard on for this post glam rock shit? If you can call it that. Boring. Should not be on this list.

this is the shit your estranged uncle SWEARS is good 😭

1 trash

неинтересная...

Heard of them but god, I had no idea they make such terrible music. This is the worst britpop-adjacent album I've heard so far. Not a single good track on this thing 1/5

Not quite

Couldn’t finish a single song on this. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right headspace

Physically unlistenable; whatever geniuses were responsible for mixing decided to simulate tinitus for the listener and keep some super high frequency information in the mix. An absolute abomination - set off my hearing issues for the rest of the afternoon. 0/5

Bloddy terrible album. Awful band. Not sure how this made the list.

Pas connu

Maybe it’s the day but I did not enjoy this at all. 1

Unbearable

1 out of 5 The first song was ok, and a few were enjoyable. The rest was, to say the least, difficult. Not my genre unfortunately.

I've heard the band name a million times but couldn't tell you a song of theirs. Why in Gods name should anyone listen to this before they die? You know you're in trouble when the most listened to song on the album is shite. Tool - Ænima and Weezer - Pinkerton were also released in 1996 and both deserve to be on this list ahead of this nonsense. Poor vocal, poor lyrics, poor production. There is a serious amount of Britpop/Britrock shite on this list that needs to be trimmed. 1/5.

Not for me 1/5

Big album of nothing sauce. The first track is a great banger, and then nothing of note comes afterwards. There's a bit of every genre that was big in 90's Britain, Shoegaze, Britpop, Alt rock etc. It all kind of blends in an artists with whom I have no idea who they are making music for. This was a really dissappointing one, especially after how good the first track really was.

1. magic - 1 2. birdz - 1 3. zomething - 1 4. frizbee - 0 5. unicorn - 1 6. mozz - 1 7. deztroy - 1 8. bad - 1 9. mario - 1.5 10. houuard - 0 11. gone - 1 NOT ONE GOOD ZONG

No es mi estilo de musica

To me this sounds like music for people who like to put an album on and walk away. I never gave Super Furry Animals a chance back in the day. I had more extreme indie, metal and post-rock vibes on my mind. Listening now, I'm glad I took a pass based on some superficial objection or complaint back then — sometimes you're wrong and get to be surprised, and sometimes you just know when you're not going to gel.

Pretty lame and full of strange sounds a noises. I didn't like this album at all

boring

I’ve heard worse but they sounded like a bit sophomoric.

All over the place. Some songs would start good but I felt like the pace would change constantly and I couldn't really keep a good flow.

It was just okay. I never need to hear any of these songs again in my life, and I probably won't because who is Super Furry Animals anyway? Certainly not a band that belongs on a list of albums I need to hear before I die. To think of all the deserving albums that weren't included just so this one could have a spot!

echt müll

It's a bit too "punky" for my taste and I found it a bit difficult to get through. Especially the song "Bad Behavior". That grated my nerves.

not for me

Quite an annoying listen. Liked one song

While better than Outkast, it's not my jam. It had some cool beats, but it is lost on me. 1.5 of 5.

Pretty derivative britpop. Rock for people who don't like rock

Honestly, I think that this album suffers from a bad mix and overly busy instrumentation. It's almost suffocating and as a result, it's just not really enjoyable to listen to it. I love noisy and balls against the wall music but this album was particularly grating and nothing really stuck with me. There are obviously plenty of influences here but I just don't see how this is an album that you have to listen before your demise. I didn't like it.

Shit sucks. 1

Bad Britpop

Meh. More mid brit-pop. Nothing you'll remember or think about once the album is done.

im one to think this is ass

Didn't like it at all. Not my cup of tea

Oh god that was dull

the parts of this i liked were the parts that leaned almost bowie-adjacent. the parts i didn't like felt like someone armed my tinnitus with an icepick. 1.5

Not my thing at all sorry

terrible and boring.

This is the worst 70s album that came out in the 90s

Oh good, more British music no one cares about now and didn't care about then.

Just sounds like a bunch of noise. Can barely hear the words over the too loud music. And like half the songs end in them just giving their instruments to a bunch of monkeys to wail on incessantly. Best Song: Something 4 the Weekend

Lät som ett gammalt kassettband. Inte min grej

Meh. No need to hear this one again.

Meh. Lame. Something 4 the Weekend has potential but just seems too limited. The rest... not sure what it's doing in the 1001... Just uninteresting. It doesn't have the melody or swagger of Blue and it doesn't bite like, say, Oasis. Poor man's indie rock. Bad Behaviour is about the best of an average bunch.

Very boring and ugly sounding

Only slightly more appealing than listening to an actual furry.

I couldn't explain why but I sure did hate this album. (The band name can't have helped)

Gear: DCA ÆON 2 Noire Artwork: 📸🧔👮‍♂️ Mix: 👂🔪🩸 Musik: 🤯🤡🤮 Wertung: 💩/5

no thank you

Garbage

OK, just strange music. Surprised to see Paul McCarthy actually recorded with them. Weird!

Furros. Ni con tus orejas

Second album by them that's been on this list and boy i hope it's the last

Super furry shit

The more I hear from these guys the less impressed I am. I gave the last one a 2 I'm giving this one a 2- which is being generous. You know what, no, terrible indulgent cover art pushed me over the edge.

This sucks. Gathering Moss is so slow i feel like I am growing moss sitting here listening to this bs.

Do not like

Dumb name, dumb sound

I disliked this one from the start and just couldn't get through the entire album before turning it off. The mix sounded awful, and it's a huge pet peeve of mine when the music is so much louder that the singer the entire time. What's the point of even writing lyrics if they are unintelligible.

Really bland, really really bland.

Doesn't deserve a spot on this list.

leos a furry

It was ok. There was 1 ok song, the rest were meh

Bland and boring

Just awful. The only album I’ve listened to so far where I disliked every minute. Definitely one to skip before you die

This was a strange album, I got tired of it quickly

This was a pretty standard late 90's British rock album. Kind of poppy, kind of manic, hardly intelligible, but fun and not too long. Reminded me of Harvey Danger or REM in its way, this was also kind of dreamy. I did listen twice just because I needed some music to have one while working, and this was a fine diversion. It didn't really have too many memorable songs, but again, nice to listen to once or twice. Favorite track: Gathering Moss

The mix sounds horrible.

I don't think I'll often say this, but I didn't finish this one. There were elements, small elements that I liked, but overall the annoying parts really outsized the minor parts I liked.

God! Show me the magic - fine, catchy enough Fuzzy bird- don't know what is going on there Something 4 the weekend- obligatory drug song, but its pretty fun song👍 Frisbee - this is background music to me Hometown unicorn- chorus is pretty lazy If you don't want me to destroy you - sounds like a reject blur song Bad behaviour. - Outro is really cool so I'm gonna give the repetitiveness a pass👍 Mario man- don't know what's going on but I dig it👍 Hangin' with Howards Marks - vocals are so drowned out but doesn't really matter with nonsensical lyrics anyway Long gone - some interesting instrumentation but not good enough vocals to carry repeated lyric. Some weird laughing at end For now and ever-??? Yeah most of the songs I was ambivalent to or didn't like 1/5

No thanks

Did not enjoy this at all.

Nothing of note, didn't hold my attention

not for me

Borefest

This wasn't for me. Didn't enjoy this at all.

Simply not for me.

Pues no me gustó.

La mera verdad perdí interés... No le vi nada especial.

After first two songs I am not really about this album so far. Yeah after 4 songs I do not like this album

I couldn’t get through this one. Brit pop just is not for me
