Pretty decent 90s grungy/psychedelic brit pop 3.5
Sometimes fun and sometimes annoying
Curioso
Fine.
it was ok i popped along to it! would listen again
I thought I'd love this, but I wasn't massively impressed. It's undeniably well done, but it just didn't do it for me. There's a couple stand-out tracks and I'd probably really enjoy it with some more listens, but there's still so much more music to listen to.
Some highlights and some fuzzy psych guitar sounds that I like, but all in all, just an alright album.
Not that bad
Forgettable, but some great songs
This was much better than people say here. I enjoyed the sounds
I've never heard of this album or artist before, but I thought this album was pretty good. I enjoyed that the sound from song to song was diverse, but it never made the album feel like it wasn't cohesive. The guitar forward sound was really enjoyable to listen to, but the album did a great job of drawing upon various influences (particularly glam rock and psychedelic rock) to construct its sound. The piano, keyboard, Hammond, Rhodes, horns, and additional strings all added depth to the sound throughout the album. Super Furry Animals did a great job of utilizing those sounds to separate themselves from the Britpop that was dominating the sound of the UK at the time. The singing was really unique on this album too, and I really liked the backing vocals that were sprinkled throughout it. I felt like the more upbeat songs were the best parts of the album. They were fun, and sometimes slightly frantic. I tended to find the slower songs a bit tedious; it's not that they were terrible, but they just weren't as interesting or fun as the rest of the album. "Something for the Weekend" was far and away my favorite song on the album. I listened to the original UK recording of the song, and I'm glad I did, because I thought it was fantastic. The back-and-forth between the verse and the chorus felt like a throwback to seventies rock, and it sounded great. Overall, this was a pretty good album, but some songs were a lot more enjoyable than others, and I don't know that I'd listen to the whole album again.
Not a bad listen. It wasn't getting breaking or mind blowing, but it was alright. Just middle of the road Alt Rock.
I don’t get it…it’s okay, but I don’t hear anything that might have been groundbreaking or otherwise significant…it’s a pleasant enough listen, and competently produced, but what makes it, per NME, one of the 500 best…not sure I need to spend time researching that…maybe I’m just a rube
This is an interesting collection of glam-rock and psychedelic pop songs. Super Furry Animals was a band from Wales, and this debut album met with modest success and critical reception. The album includes some great pop songs, like "Hometown Unicorn." The songs are somewhat inconsistent, where SFA's experimentations were not as fruitful, like "Gathering Moss" and "Long Gone."
Average at best
big and cinematic, generally cool
Pretty good. Some shades of Oasis in the mix. More rocking than I expected. The slow tunes are not great. Probably will never listen again, but it did not feel like a waste of time.
Solid 3
ok
Hit and miss
Run-of-the-mill punk/indie rock. Fairly decent, not unpleasant but not a genre I like and nothing outstanding. As usual, when the album ended Spotify continued playing its similar recommendations and I didn't notice.
I still can't get this sort of slack and slightly off tune singing.
OK, the first song in great!
Interesting
This is the debut album by Welsh rock band Super Furry Animals. It consists of overdriven guitars, and fuzzy lyrics. There is so much going on that the lyrics end up getting buried under layers of distortion. Lyrics aside, the musical accompaniment is fine I guess. Nothing spectacular. It's of the same genre as the Boo Radleys or Ash. I feel like this was only added to be inclusive to the Welsh. I don't see this as being very influential. Favourite songs: God! Show Me Magic, Bad Behaviour, Mario Man, Frisbee, If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You Least favourite songs: Gathering Moss, Long Gone 3/5
Just fine constipation rock for dudes.
Best Song: Something 4 The Weekend. Campy and theatrical, but in a fun way. Worst Song: For Now and Ever. A bit self-indulgent of a finishing track, isn't it? Overall: Even if it wasn't great, it certainly was fun. I bet they put on a killer live show.
Heel eclectisch, apprecieer het wel Kwaliteit van elk nummer niet even hoog weinig samenhang, maar dat lijkt me deel van de charme
3.5
Art rock, britpop, glam rock, psychedelia, punk rock
Some nice tunes on here, but meanders quite a bit
I have nothing bad to say but I don’t have anything good to say either. I’m right in the middle, so 5/10
More brit pop rock that doesn’t exactly wow but is at least listenable. A Blurrlike band where songs were basically deleted from my memory as soon as they ended. Some of the noises this singer made were making me chuckle because they were soo strange. It was strange, I felt like I had heard every song before but this was caused by the songs almost being predictable in how unoriginal they were. I would still rather listen to this than Blurr. 5/10
Good album. Really close to 4 stars. More like a 3.75 than a 3.
Like a bit of britpop although don't know SFA beyond a few singles. Enjoyed this, can definitely see why they're seen as innovative but nothing jumped out at me that elevates it beyond 3 stars
Ok
Irreverent feeling rock, on the raw-er side with some different instrumentation mixed in (horns, strings)
Pretty good!
Rating: 6/10 Mixed bag album. I applaud the band for their mix of styles and the experimentation on this album. The execution is what falls flat for me a lot of the time, but the times it does work it's really great and interesting to listen to. Favorite songs: God! Show Me Magic, Something For the Weekend, Hangin' With Howard Marks. Worst songs: Fuzzy Birds, Frisbee.
A solid 3 and I don't need to hear it again.
Proto-Rooney? Like a lot about it just not sure I’ll revisit
Album 213 of 1001 Super Furry Animals - Fuzzy Logic Rating : 3 / 5 More European Pop. I won't complain. Some fun tunes. Overall a good album, while nothing overly remarkable to comment on. Won't mind a 2nd listen when I come across it in the playlist. ___________________________________________________ Fuzzy Logic is the debut album by the Welsh rock band Super Furry Animals, released in May of 1996.
not enough fuzz. severely disappointed. same vibes as weezer. you decided whether thats good or not.
I'm so torn on this album because I loved the slower songs but sometimes the punk 200 bpm no stop yelling just grinds on me if I'm not exactly in the mood for it. Not sure I would listen to it again but definitely gets points for having more range than most of these types of records which give me no time to rest.
Nou goed, we gaan luisteren.
It's been a very long time since I listen to this album, I did own it and it did get some decent rotation but I kid of forgot about. Heavy pop 60's and early punk influences and they do it well but many times it sounds like the soundtrack of a fabricated band for a movie. It's catchy but it just lacks some soul or meat to it. Perhaps upon it's release it didn't sound that way, since many bands were not doing that.
An interesting but not THAT interesting indie rock record.
Ok Britpop. Nothing really stood out to me about this album.
A bit of a personal nostalgic throwback but I'm left wondering if I liked it more 20 years ago because it seemed new and different rather than for the absolute value. Translation: it's fine but I'm not feeling it like I used to. A little too dense and 90s sounding even with the cool Welsh accents. "Hangin' with Howard Marks" still bangs tho. 6/10 3 stars.
Perfectly fine, not really my thing but never bad. Something 4 the Weekend obviously the best track.
This is good. We get a lot of guitarry rocky stuff on this list, and this was one of the better ones. Consistent the whole way through, like Hector says there's no bad songs there. That said, there's nothing that really stands out either - Something 4 the Weekend is decent, but not groundbreaking or a classic, and there's not much more really. It's a lot less raw than most debuts, it's been produced pretty well, starts to head towards overproduction but doesn't quite get there. I think it's a really good 3/5, a really good single would've got it a 4.
Meandering, dated and forgettable southern rock-meets-Oasis.
Canciones con ritmo y un tanto guitarreras. Estilo rock suave con alguna canción bien elaborada. Les ha faltado algo de chispa original
Solid
Track seven is dope, this album is just okay.
Quite good. Very Beatles-esque. Clearly taken inspiration from earlier BritPop indie bands like Blur, Boo Radleys and Dodgy.
1. Bad Behaviour 2. Hanging with Howard Marks 3. For now and forever
At points it became a cacophony of noise that hurt my ears but for the most part I liked it. Kudos to the system for selecting it.
I pretty much feel the same about this album as I did about "Daydream Nation." It's fine. It's either a 2 or a 3 for me.
While the opening moments feel like barely getting to the bathroom in time and having a mystic experience and feel like you are peeing for the very first time, the rest of the album seeming like a fine addition to a crowded glam rock aisle. High energy and fun are two things that are available in spades. It is a fine album to visit but I am sure I will quickly forget it.
Fuzzy and Quirky, the album behinds to a satisfying finale. It was a pleasant surprise
There are some decent songs like the opening track ‘God! Show Me Magic’ and ‘Gravity’. But then we get crap like ‘Frisbee’, ‘Long Gone’ and songs like ‘Bad Behaviour’ which is both bad and good within the same song. Then there’s ‘Mario Man’, which has a great melody and rhythm but nonsense lyrics (like most of the songs on the record really). It’s a whole album of this, and perhaps that’s the point, but I feel like I’m missing some sort of joke either because I’m not Welsh, (‘Hangin’ with Howard Marks’ – song about a Welsh drug dealer) or this album made more sense when it was released in ‘96 or both…

This was entertaining and funny. It's like Ramones from Wish.com
Legalzinho o som mas nada extraordinario, rockzinho alternativo
seemed like average rock album.
Some nice Melodies in that dirty 2000 brit fashion
At first I was a bit worried but it ended up being pretty good!
Fairly unmemorable. May have listened to it twice, but I'm not sure. I didn't hate it though.
Nice try tough.
Enjoyed this. I like SFA, I think this is the first full listen of this album.
This was fine. Not as fun as I would've hoped given all the words on the cover, but fine.
Bits of Teenage Fanclub, World of Twist and even a daub of Edgar Broughton Band here and there. I tend to think the rockier numbers are the best - 'Bad Behaviour' rips, and 'Hangin' with Howard Marks' shines - plus the rather grizzled vocals are a nice feature in the mix. Not bad at all. Didn't entirely hold my attention, and the arrangements sometimes verged on the twee side of things, but altogether quite listenable.
I found this one a little grating. The vocals were linear as well. Sad, as the title had me hopeful.
Kinda cool, and probably a breath of fresh air in 1996.
Didn't do the best job listening to this one. Was having the stop and start a bunch so I might need to listen again. Felt like punk and alternative put together, but not in your face about it. I enjoyed a lot of the guitar solos. Feels like a 3.5 that deserves another listen.
Pretty typical 90's alternative to me. There were some good songs that stuck out I think If you Don't Want Me to Destroy You was my favorite. But then pretty forgetful otherwise. Good background music
Låter väl okej.
I liked it fine but will I ever listen to it again? No one knows
Basically Ween, which is a good thing. Some fantastic and fun songs but also some brutally cringy songs (bad behavior was the worst offender)
Quirky and catchy A bit of psychedelic mixed with 90s alt/pop rock
I know pretty nothing about this band, aside from the inclusion of their song "Hello Sunshine" in the "The Rock-afire Explosion" documentary (which is great!). I was surprised to learn that this is their debut album. It's incredibly well formed and layered for a band's first output and that in and of itself is impressive. This is a lot more up my alley than the Brit-pop stuff coming out in parallel from their colonizers.
Rating: 6/10 Best songs: God! Show me magic, Something 4 the weekend
Something 4 the Weekend is 👌
3.5/5
It was alright. It feels a bit dated nowadays since the production feels very very 90s, but the individual songs were catchy at the least. I thought the end stretch was really strong, where I started to emotionally resonate more with the songs, such as Long Gone and For Now and Ever. Otherwise, the songs bled together a bit. Will revisit to get more concrete thoughts in the future.
I had not heard of this band or heard their music, and I enjoyed listening to this album. Nice variety of influences here.
I listened to a previous album from Super Furry Animals early on in this list, but the name of the band was only roughly familiar. I liked the last album and I liked Fuzzy Logic too. Almost of all of the tracks were okay or better. Super Furry Animals seems to fit within the categories of stuff that I would like. Occasionally the vocals reminded me of okgo, and the music sounded like it would fit in with Beck or Blur. Hometown Unicorn", "Long Gone" and "Something for the Weekend" were the tracks I liked the most. The album was a little long, and a couple tracks keep me from rounding up to a full 4 stars. I would come back to at least part of the album.
Anti Brit pop Brit pop because the guy who made the list is Brit
Fuzzy, Furry, Funny fun. Sounds very 90s but it's all good. A surprising amount of variety despite not jumping out of its genre too much.
An a-ok 90's background rock listen
It was okay I guess. Kind of felt a little all over the place stylistically which didn't exactly help me get into it. This band was on my radar for a while and I'm glad that I can cross them off the list now. It wasn't a super great experience but I'm glad that I heard it, if you know what I mean.
It's okay. Not really my kind of music but I like it enough for what it is.
Appropriate for the times, did not feel as weighty as the Wikipedia and Critical reviews would've made me guess. Likely worth a listen, definitely an influence to many of the British Indie favorites of mine.
I kinda felt as though there was a weirdly high amount of 90s British Rock (of a few different stripes) on this list, and most of it has been a miss for me. Maybe it was a function of my lowered expectations, but I actually ended up enjoying this album. Not sure I'll ever revisit, but I think I'll enjoy it when the songs I saved come up on shuffle. Standouts: God! Show Me Magic, Something 4 The Weekend, Bad Behaviour
This is a good rock album that combines elements of rock, pop, and psychedelia. Clearly drawing inspiration from Bowie and Elvis Costello, Super Furry Animals push some boundaries of innovating the genre. The album's first half is the most solid with catch rhythms, riffs, and some quirkiness. At the half-way point, some of the songs amble off the deep end and lose me, but overall, this is a decent little alt rock record.
I’m a little fuzzy on the logic of this album. Ha, it’s fine. Just kind of harmless 90s rock that has a slight psychedelic twinge to it. There wasn’t anything that really jumped out to me, but I appreciate some of the left field tracks.
Ah the 90s
There are so many good things happening on this album but it doesn't seem to have adirection.
Overall pretty pleasant, not writing a sterling letter to the editor about my undying admiration but I didn't want to chew my own ears off or fight myself to not skip any tracks so that's a plus. Had some good rock sound with the band but vocally not that interesting.
3.5
Já já, þetta er ágætt.
I feel like I zoned out for 5 minutes and this album was already half over. It was really good but it felt super short to me.
It's a lot of noise going on. But not too bad. I think I was too harsh on George Michael last time cause I rate them similarly, and I think this is worth a 3.
Good energy, if a little rough around the edges. Faves: God! Show Me Magic, Something 4 The Weekend, Frisbee, Bad Behavior, Hangin' With Howard Marks, For Now and Ever. 3.5/5
Sounfds good. Just getting to know it.
I probably need to give this a few more listens. Only songs that really stood out for me were Long Gone, and For Now and Ever. After reading other reviews I feel like I'm missing something, maybe just not in the right frame of mind.
It's fine, but does one really have to hear it before one dies?
Hauska uusi tuttavuus.
5/10 didn't make much of an impression on me.
6/10. Better than I expected, nothing earth-shattering
A bizarre but fairly listenable album. Wouldn’t be one of my picks from the 90s. 6/10
It started like a pretty fun album, but it became more and more "standardized" until I almost forgot I was listening to something different from any "Top 10 rock songs from the 90s" or something like that.
monako
Very cool psychedelic rock. Reminds me of XTC. Something 4 the Weekend is a banger.
Solid indie album, although it feels strange hearing Gruff sing in English for the whole thing. The man don’t give a fuck is a classic.
Fun pop rock that sounds like a combo of 90s alt, The Beatles, and STP. Easy and fun melodic and catchy band that I will listen to in the future for sure.
I quite liked this, but I doubt I'll bother listening to it again.
3/5 For being forgettable and repetitive. Who the fuck thinks that Fuzzy Logic is a "Must Listen to Before You Die?" "Have you heard Fuzzy Logic?" "No." "Oh ok it's fine, you arent missing anything." Have you heard cats in heat? Have you heard the brakes of a train? Do you need to before you die? No. It's like an album full of Helter Skelters.... Just why? Why is it a must hear?
Felt like the singer was doing his best Bowie impression and I wasn't overly impressed with it. The album seemed a bit... Messy? Unfocused? Pretentious? Not *awful* but not great - have heard far worse lately.
Interesting record with many catchy songs and a really nice flow through them.
Art Rock/Brit Pop from 1996. They are from Wales and this is their debut album. They have two albums on the list of 1001 albums.... Singles: ------------------------------------------------------------- Hometown Unicorn (#47, UK) God! Show Me Magic (#33, UK) Something for the Weekend (#18 UK) If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You (#18 UK) The Man Don't Give a Fuck (#18 UK) only on Disc 2 (B-Sides and Such) Initial Impression: Thumbs Up. Standouts: God! Show Me Magic, Something for the Weekend, Hometown Unicorn, Others: Fuzzy Birds, Frisbee, Gathering Moss, If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You, Mario Man, Long Gone, For Now and Ever Rating: 3.5 (Excellent) So close to a 4.0
Pretty fun indie rock/pop kinda stuff. Might come back to this.
Wanna go back to this one again, feels like it needs more listens.
What a weird mix of britpop, art rock and glam. This is a record for people who want to dive into the musical history of Britain but have a very short attention span. I enjoyed the ride (I think?) but it feels like a tasting menu, where I never truly got to immerse myself into what was going on.
“I’d like to hear some British music, please.” “Absolutely. What genre and age could I interest you in?” “Why not all of them?”
I can get why people are into this, but I don’t find it to be Amazing. Definitely some good listens but it just isn’t hitting me in the way I have heard other people speak of this band. Scottish doing a Beatles but more Rockin’.
First listen: A throwback, but very fun. Some Blur vibes. Impressive horn section. Zombies influence. Verses on 3 bug me. Song 4 is fun but the whoo hoo vocals get very annoying. All in all the production is very nice 1970’s vintage sound. The vocals tend to be the element I dislike. Sentiment is clearly ‘90s Britt Pop Rock. Gathering Moss sounds lovely, again lead vocals come across as slightly disingenuous. The budget behind the album (orchestration on 7) screams a bit loudly paired with the kinda fuck-it vibe of the lead. This guitar solo sounds like an electronic slide whistle. Mario Man also sounds like Blur. Continue to be surprised by the money thrown at this project. For Now and Ever is very Weezer-sounding. Second listen: All sound very derivative of things Blur had done on their previous 3 albums, though Super Furry Animals might have done it even more consistently, , but there aren’t any songs I latch on to here as favorites. It all just sounds like some really decent Blur B-Sides, albeit really well-produced. Don’t think I could ever classify this album as a bucket-list record, just not hearing the innovation.
Most of the time this just felt like Weezer, but Welsh. It didn't have the zaniness that really drew me to Rings Around the World, but it was still a nice and fun record.
I liked this album okay. Fun and playful, but not much really stuck with me.
Nice!
I liked this a bit. Nothing too special to me personally, but I'd definitely explore this band further.
I really like Super Furry Animals, but this isn't the album I would have chosen for this list. It's a decent pop rock album with plenty of good songs, and hints of the genius to come, but more direct and less creatively interesting than their later output. SFA OK!, but not SFA brilliant just yet. Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: If You'l Don't Want Me to Destroy You Date listened: 13/11/22
I do not recall hearing this band before. Despite that - they sound familiar. They sound very British and some of the songs remind me of The Beatles or Oasis. It is an entertaining album.
3rd November 2022 Listened while working from home in the office. Freddie came round to look at kitchen, ru Paul in the evening. Quirky, alternative and kinda funky! Enjoyed this, wasn’t aware they were around in the 90s Brit pop era.
If Pulp was on coke and listened to more glam rock. Production work is well done. It's all over the place, too ambitious for what they planned, with many ideas falling a bit flat. I especially liked their fusion of 60s jangle psychedelia with space noises, though the songs themselves are nothing extraordinary. Nothing really impressed me, and many reminded too much of other bands. Favorites: Something 4 The Weekend, Hometown Unicorn, Gathering Moss, If You Don't Want Me, Mario Man, Long Gone
Not great.
Yeah I dug it. Decent amount of psych guitar solos. Found it a lot more accessible than that Blur album.
This album has a sound that is a little hard to nail down. A little hodgepodge and hectic, but occasionally fun. Ultimately forgettable. Fave Songs: Something for the Weekend, Frisbee, Hometown Unicorn, If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You, Long Gone
Meh. Pretty boring but I was able to listen to it.
3.5. Ahead of it’s time
This was a pretty solid 90s Britpop album. While I didn't really LOVE any track, I thought they were all pretty decent. I would give this another listen. I thought mostly the singles (opening track, Something for the Weekend, Hometown Unicorn) were the standout songs, with the solo/outro in Bad Behavior up there as well. 3.5 for me.
The psychedelic notes sprinkled throughout do add some color, but often the songs seem to peter out long before they actually end. A good effort.
Lyrics that echo the meaninglessness of life set to fun, energetic, tuneful music… and the mournful « long gone »… An interesting album I’ll have to listen to again
Somewhat annoying.
Trippy. A little David Bowie-Esque
Some songs are definitely better than others.
Best song was Something 4 the Weekend. Album was a bit chaotic sounding at times but overall could listen to fine.
If an AI band was fed every Blur and Pulp album this is what it’s come up with. Pretty bland overall, and sounds outdated for the time
Never really listened at the time but some solid tunes and inters6sounds maybe I'll hang for a while.
This was okay. It felt very 90s to me. Based on the description, I expected to like it, but I didn’t really care for it.
I really like Frisbee. The song long gone reminds me of Pink Floyd, but in an irritating way. Not a bad album, but not my favorite. For Now and Ever is a great closing track.
This is a good but not great album. Nothing about it really stands out to me. Personally, I've never heard of this band but I don't feel like I missed out on anything. I can't imagine it would be on this list if the list was created by Americans.
Pretty interesting and eclectic. Quirky neo-pyschedelia with a bit of power pop mixed in. Would listen again. 3 stars.
toffe listen
kinda fun, fuzzy pop. I've never listened to this album but have listened to some of their other stuff. Never really got into them but they're not bad.
This album was fun and pretty unique! "Fusion" is a strong word that comes to mind when I think of this album. There were obvious fusions of glam, punk, psychedelia, and grunge throughout this album. As shown on this album, glam and grunge make such an enjoyable juxtaposition when done correctly. While this didn't blow me away, I really did enjoy it, and would gladly listen to it again!
Lesser britpop. Or possibly core britpop and my tastes have changed? Feels like Supergrass but with less compelling tunes.
Fun album, felt like a few songs on here I'd heard before on a soundtrack or maybe the radio. Decent start to the week but still waiting for that next five star album (or even four at this point).
Surprised to find that this is our second album from this band. I liked a few songs, it's just a run of the mill rock band with some good melodies here and there. I honestly don't know if I liked this more or less than the other, but we really don't need both of these. I'm going to vote to axe this one. Favorite tracks: Something 4 the Weekend, Hometown Unicorn, For Now and Ever. Album art: I don't dislike this one, it's a pretty cool mosaic cover. Not as vibrant or exciting as the cover for the other album we got, but it does the job. 3/5
not super bad, but not super good either
Definitely an improvement over the last Super Furry Animals record I had. I would say I *mildly* enjoyed most of the songs. Very 60s/70s vibe and they pull it off well. 6/10
Poppy weirdness. The world needs more goofy guys like this!
Lots going on, most of it good.
its a decent album, mostly punk influences combined with some experimental rock. its not bad and it evolves throughout but i can't say it's really great either a weird one
Like Bowie but not as good. Finding it hard.to know what to say. Not bad but not great either
I didn't love this, felt a little bland. The vocal bits at the end of Frisbee sounded like an Adam Buxton noise
It was okay.
Weird how familiar that album cover is considering I've never listened to it. I thought maybe I'd never listened to it because I didn't like them but I guess it was more just the restrictive price of cds and means of music sharing in 1996. And the fact that I wasn't indie enough. No beef with sfa.
Pretty electrifying! Opening with "God! Show Me Magic," my other fave tracks would probably be "Frisbee," "Hometown Unicorn," "Gathering Moss," and "Bad Behaviour."
Not bad, but I wonder how it got on this list.
Nice one, I'll listen to it again. Great psych + britpop :)
Grand.
Not bad, solid 3. Not memorable but enjoyable
3.6 - I was deep into Britpop back in the late-90s but these guys didn't get much airplay in the States so they weren't on my radar. To me this record sounds like a more cooky, less grandiose version of "The Bends."
It was alright
Not my favourite album by them by still good pop songs on it.
Good album
I didn't think it was anything particularly memorable, but a decent album.
Some parts of this album I enjoyed but other parts kinda went off the deep end. Overall it was a good album but not something I need to go back to.
This album was an attempt at reinventing late 60s/early 70s rock and while it didn’t fail miserably it wasn’t great. I thought the first 3ish songs were enjoyable and then it lost me a bit.
Not bad, an eclectic mix that handles itself well but isn’t mind blowing
ok
From Wikipedia: "James Delingpole in a January 1997 review in The Daily Telegraph wrote the band had produced a 'strange mix of Bowie-esque glam rock, school-of-Syd-Barrett psychedelia and DIY kitsch'". I could not have said it better. This band is so distinctly out of time for 1996, it's hard to praise it for doing anything particularly daring. For what it's worth, Fuzzy Logic is certainly a successful blend of these influences. I just feel they do little to expand on them in a way that matters. It's a good sound, but nothing to write home about. Is this the best 90's act that Wales has to offer? I hope not.
A strong start, some good tracks, but a couple overstay their welcome...however, loved, loved Something 4 the weekend, although it reminds me of something I can't put my finger on...I want to say Polyphonic Spree's Light and Day, which came 8 year later so maybe they heard this track.
I liked long gone, rest is ok
It took a couple of listens to get intrigued but after that threshold I found an alright album. It's pretty noisy but has clear melodies. I'm glad I gave it another chance otherwise it would've remained as a bad image. Still not a favourite of mine and only really liked a few songs, but have learned to appreciate it more. Something 4 the Weekend was the best song on here. I like how Super Furry Animals have Howard Marks, a famous drug smuggler from their country of Wales not only on their album cover, but referenced in one of their songs too. Not one of the best songs on the album but it's pretty cool regardless.
Nice
Overall it was okay. Kind of weird sometimes, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.
Decent. Some great psychedelic guitar and good drumming. Songs aren't particularly well crafted though so it's not reet memorable.
furry, fuzzy, forgettable
3/5
Eclectic.
The first half sounded like the soundtrack to an obscure late 90s Paul Rudd romcom. Then it just got sorta boring. I guess I don't understand the charm or significance of this album nor did I find it particularly enjoyable. Wasn't bad just wasn't interesting to me.
decent debut, they have better
Good songwriting, good variety, strong 3
Well, I was not familiar with the group or album, but they have a familiar style...it's rock-ish but with up-beat and catchy melodies sprinkled in...kinda fun. I think that had I heard this album when originally released, then I would have been more of a fan. That is when I discovered some other artists of this ilk that I loved and still do. Maybe I am just past adopting more of this style in my love-library. It was fine, just not something that I want to hold on to.
They were trying very hard to make the songs sound interesting on this album. It was a good effort that brought back memories from the mid 90s, but none of the songs really gelled with me, so in the end the album left me underwhelmed.
Funky, did not sound like a 90s band
Alternative 70s/80s sound
Aikanaan varmasti muodikasta brittirockin aallonharjalla surffailua. Bändi on itselleni tuttu lähinnä 2000-luvun vähän taiteellisemmasta tuotannosta.
not bad
Coming into this one with no context I couldn't guess where or when this came from. Not sure if it's 5 or 50 years old, though it is a little clever and subversive, so it's definitely "post-something," just not sure what. It doesn't seem like they didn't take themselves seriously at all. Certainly not meandering prog-rock, but not rock anthemy either. Not so much random, but certainly spontaneous and whimsical. Still before looking up on wikipedia I could imagine this was a side project for otherwise successful professionals to mischievously mess around. Still, a positive tone, good fun.
Meh, didn't throw me off, but never really got going enough that I was invested either.
The album is clearly well-made, but I think I just don't get it.
A little disapointed with this one, it started well, but then all sounded the same by the end
Best aardig. Vooal de zang deed me erg aan Blur denken.
Very simple 90-a pop-rock
The album sounds something like a mutation of Mott The Hoople paired with the Beatles. The songs are a bit trashy and arranged in the cheesiest way (including a trumpet fanfare and a flute march). (6/10) Favourite Track: Something 4 The Weekend
I can't really put the textures and feelings of this album into words. It's a psychedelic trip meets fabulous glam rock to create a genre bending punk rock album. All the way through, the guitar tones give you a fantastic grittiness that never let you forget what kind of force this band is, but you get some sweetness with beautiful melodies accompanied by robotic synth and drum samples. Gruff Rhys has an unconventional voice for a lead singer, but that just makes the songs on here all the more unique. No two songs sound the same, and the journey that the tracklist puts you on will make you see how this is classified in the category of "art rock." Favorite Song: Frisbee Least Favorite: Bad Behaviour
Average Brit pop. Good energy. No real standout tracks. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Fine fuzzy rock.
Liked it
I find myself going between "hey this is really fun" and " when is it going to get to the next fun part". Very up and down album. Gets an average review from me.
Good fun
Very enjoyable 90s Britpop (Welsh)
Pretty fun. Drags a little in the 2nd half
I know just a few of their songs. Enjoying this quite a bit. Has an XTC feel, with a big Beatles influence. Songwriting is strong. Feels like 3.5 even a 3.75 🌟
13.05.2021. počelo užasno, pa sam ga malo privoleo
fun!
Just couldn’t get into it
Decent
i'm back on that half star thing. Definitely liked it and liked it more than a 3, but not quite enough to tip over to 4. More rock than the multitude of 70s and mild rock we've had lately which was a nice change.
Going 3.5 - always found this one of their less interesting early albums but still has a different, glammier vibe to it's britpop peers. Great live band back in the day
Interesting fuse electronic and acoustic music.
Not a huge fan of them, but I've always had a mild respect for Super Furries. This album is like if Britpop was actually any good, and was heavily inspired by psychedelia and 1970s rock. Still not a very consistent album though. 3.5
Saved Prior: None Saved Off Rip: God! Show Me Magic, Hometown Unicorn, For Now and Ever Cutting Edge: Something 4 the Weekend Overall Notes: This was alright with headphones, but it was a fun listen on the speaker. Don't entirely get what the big deal about them is, but it was fun.
Legalzin, nao conhecia esses caras. Provavelmente iria gostar bastante se ouvisse mais.
I was falling behind on my thousand and one homework so had to cram the two Super Furry Animals albums this afternoon. I thought the Fuzzy Logic album was OK with a few good rock songs. Rings Around the World was a little lame. Kinda like music you might hear on a soap opera.
Funk mix of college rock, glam, and psychedelic
Some cool melodies, but otherwise pretty meh. Gathering moss, If you don't want me to destroy you and Mario Man peaked my interest a bit. They're from Cardiff Simon!
Okay, had to listen to this like 6 times bc I kept getting distracted. I didn’t like it at first but it’s growing on me. Couple catchy tunes.
A fairly eclectic mix. They have a knack for writing catchy songs with sing-a-long choruses. The singles (that didn’t do well) were the best ones, IMO. They were channeling Mott the Hoople, on Something 4 the Weekend, I thought. I’m also catching a bit of Aladdinsane-era Bowie &T-rex but with a muddier production and raunchy guitar. Nice strings on If You Don’t Want Me to Destroy You. Their furture releases were more radio-friendly, but from what I've heard, I prefer this album.
Hometown Unicorn" Released: 26 February 1996 "God! Show Me Magic" Released: 29 April 1996 "Something 4 the Weekend" Released: 1 July 1996 "If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You" Released: 30 September 1996
Bien, sin más.
Britpop. Ni fu ni fa.
Has a great 90s alt-rock feel to it. Reminds me a lot of the stone roses.
Something between 90s rock, punkish, glam rock / Bowie, experimental (but not too out there). Some orchestral sounds in there. Decent guitar playing. Interesting overall.
They come of really authentic in their weirdness which I like, and the album has songs of very different musical styles, despite being generally a rock album. I enjoyed it and would explore more of this band.
Very interesting album that seemed to have the campy bombast of a british Rocky Horror Picture Show with the psychedelics turned up two notches and one dose of sex pistols. Reasonably fun listen.
Good try Welsh Blur, good try. (Furry = Blur-y?)
Alright, alternative, but I like a little more dance-y music, or music with a good hook.
Not a bad sound for sure. Not the greatest too.
not sure why, but this didn't fully click for me. It's OK, but nothing spectacular to my ears.
This album was very "take it or leave it" for me. I didn't dislike it, but didn't feel very compelled by it either. I think that puts it in the 3-star range for me.
Classic psychedelic rock, a very British band that feels like post-Beatles era of rock music in the UK.
Decent britrock album with some interesting edges to it, although in the end it does lack some memorable songs to gain a 4 star rating
Reminds me somewhat of noisy Bowie/Eno with David Lowrey or somebody singing
Enjoyed it and couldn’t grasp what it reminded me of until I saw the suggested Spotify page for Blur
A lot less fun than expected
Okayish britpop. Not offensive but does not excite me either
A couple bangers (God! Show Me Magic and Something 4 the Weekend) but the album is uneven and it's not a total album experience I would want to have again. Rating: 2
I don't really know how to describe this album, i just feel like its just......uninteresting? Like its just a bit boring but i wouldn't exactly call it bad music to be honest, But nothing necessarily good. Maybe its just simply not for me. Very forgettable to say the least.
This is just a generic britpop album from start to finish. I try to wait until after I listen to the album before looking at other user reviews, and that seems to be the main sentiment of the review section anyway. The whole record just feels incredibly formulaic, relying heavily on the standard mid-90s guitar pop tropes without adding anything fresh or exciting to the table. While a couple of the singles have somewhat catchy hooks, the deep cuts quickly fade into the background as uninspired filler. It completely lacks the distinct personality, sharp wit, or massive anthemic energy that the top-tier bands of that era were putting out, imo.
I had so many issues listening to this. Some of them were about the music and some of them were that I had that 20 something remaster that had over 30 tracks. I listened for like 30 minutes and didn't realize. I heard some bright spots but left confused.
Really can’t say that I’m a fan. This album, like the other from them, was all over the place. Some slightly enjoyable, some abrasive and annoying. 2+ overall.
I got a fevah and the only curah is more lah, lah, lah, lah, lah from yet another britpop bunch. Kind of amazing that this was ever popular from a country that's probably hungover 50% of the time... this must've landed for the other 50% of the time that they either were working on getting drunk or were drunk.
Brit Pop bleh to me, no memorable tracks for me
Never heard of Super Furry Animals before this. Welsh psychedelic indie rock, 1996. The sound didn't grab me — eclectic to the point of unfocused, nothing stayed. Pleasant enough while it played, gone the moment it stopped. 2/5 — fuzzy logic, no clear conclusion.
Melodic, fuzzy riffs, lots of effects, rich instrumentation? On paper I should like this. But somehow I really didn't. Perhaps because it was all over the place, and not in a good way. 1.5/5 - weak
Started off okay, but got worse each song. Still somehow better than the beatles.
First punk-rock song was actually pretty good, especially for a 90s britpop band, however it only went downhill from there with the same beatles wanna be with slight punk influences. I still don't understand why for some reason people decided that bad singing was supposed to be good in the 90s. It is genuinely impressive how they're able to make hate each song more and more.
fine
I dunno. This feels harsher than it needs to be. But I wouldn’t actively come back, at least right now.
FWIW these guys are clearly having a blast. Like the last Furries album, a bit woo woo for me...
Ween but boring.
At first I thought "this is somewhat interesting" then I remembered it's supposedly one of those 1001 you should listen to before you die. It isn't
🎧Why is this here?
More like the super furry amateurs. Why is this on the list?
I think I just dont like Super Furry Animals
It's not bad, but I also don't really care for it?
On paper, Brit-pop vibes with some fuzz is something I should really enjoy, but this just falls short in every way. When it "rocks" it sounds neutered. When it gets quirky I find it more annoying than quaint. When it gets psychedelic it sounds like they micro-dosed to be safe. I'd like to say it's better than Rings Around, but I honestly found it hard to really pay attention to either one.
not very interesting. sort of punk, sort of pop. overall nothing I would listen to again
Favorite track(s): It's possible that this blight on Britannia goes back further than originally thought. At least they're Welsh, I guess.
Dull
Highlights: Something 4 The Weekend, If You Don’t Want Me To Destroy You, Bad Behavior. 2.4
I've reached my limit with generic unmemorable 90s Brit Pop while being less than a third of the way through this list...
I vaguely remember hearing their singles in the 90s and thinking that Super Furry Animals were Britpop also-rans. Listening to an entire album basically confirmed that for me. Though they do sound that they were more influenced by 70s music compared to the 60s music of the bigger Britpop acts. The album more or less washed over me, without any tracks standing out. It's definitely not an album that feels important enough to make the 1001 list.
Dull
totally forgettable.
This one wasn't really for me. Enjoyed some of the tracks, but wasn't too impressed overall.
Bland Best Song: If You Don't Want Me to Destroy You Rating: 4/10 Stars: 2
Although I'm into britpop this one does not convince me at all. 2,5
Another moderately good brit-pop/alternative album. I will say it's better than their other stuff I've listened to. There's nothing super impressive or special here but it's fine.
