Reviews (page 11 of 13)

nice, didn't stand out enough for me. the odd song gets me going, but overall not enough

Bissl too much soli für meinen Geschmack.

This was okay. Pretty generic sounding, but I've never been much of a Neil Young fan.

I did like most of the songs, but none of them really stood out to me. They all sounded pretty similar.

I was never a huge Neil Young fan, but this album is pretty good.

yeah a decent album. at this point i am going to stop commenting on every album and only make comments on my absolute favourites or when i find a song i really like

I feel like I'm on drugs

Was nice!

Had a lot of neil young on this list, and I've been lukewarm on most of it. This is okay I guess, but nothing really makes me want to come back to it

Down By The River is great, the rest of the album is fine.

-"Cinnamon Girl" is catchy enough -"Round and Round (It Won't Be Long)" is pretty or whatever but it is also boring -"Down by the River" gets into cool bass and guiar -"Cowgirl in the Sand" is nice enough -Its got some nice bits and pieces, but not nearly consistently enough to really get my attention

Decent but not what I want out of a rock album such as this

I thought i didn’t like him based on his last album (déjà vu). but this was okay. it started off strong with cinnamon girl and gradually got eh, but it was fun and i didn’t hate it.

It seems like there's often very little middle-ground on Neil Young. There are those "NEIL!" fans (or my wife who will no question be singing Cinnamon Girl the rest of the day after this is playing ha) and then those who think Neil's voice is a bit of a non-starter to say the least. Of course I'm taking the easy way out and staking a little middle-ground here but I think this album is a pretty good listen even for those who might "hate" Neil. You've got some good heavy rock starting off with the aforementioned "Cinnamon Girl" followed up with a nice easy rocker in the title track. "Down By The River" is one of those old-time 'holycow this is creepy' songs, which I like. And sticking to this song in particular...for the most part I kind of enjoy his voice on this album - although if anything I often find his electric guitar work (solos) more than a bit harsh and difficult to get through. But on the other hand it's also his unique *sound* and as much as you could always tell an Edward Van Halen guitar part you can do the same for Neil Young. That counts for something significant I think. Another album that I like the overall sound of - you can definitely hear the space in this one, even in the louder songs - a dry production that's somehow not annoying. The album peters out a little for me on the (former) second side - I'm not as much a fan of the country and slow/plodding feel on songs like "The Losing End" and "Running Dry" which knocks it down a notch. Anyways as a "yeah sure Neil Young is alright" kind of music fan this is a decent album - relatively short and with some undeniably important/classic songs that still sound good. 7/10 3 stars

I actually really enjoyed this on second listen. Not enough for a 4 maybe but it was close.

A rare example of an album actually getting worse the more I listened. Became too repetitive after a while...

I wasn’t expecting that much funk. A bit too many extended guitar jams, but a good listen.

Good voice, good sound though not much variety musically. Nice solid listen though!

Really nice harmonies, simple in its musicality. I thought it had a lot of Buffalo Springfield vibes which I then learned Neil Young was in!

Pretty good musically, a little bland at times, I see how this influenced a lot of country/folksy/rock. Best track: Down by the River

Goddamn I hate Neil Young. The only good parts of this album are when he isn't singing.

Easy listening -Folk

Nice easy listening

too much country but the last track was great

Young is an icon, but not one I’ve listened to. I was impressed, but it blended into the background after the first couple of songs. I’m probably past the days where a 5 minute guitar solo appeals to me, but if it does to you it’s probably a 3.5-4

Great background music. No immediate standout tracks, but Cinnamon Girl reminds me of Trip Shakespeare. Seems a little more upbeat than what I remember from Harvest (listened to it years ago though). 3/5.

Country-rock suave de Neil Young. Ni fu ni fa.

Really enjoyed the second half of the album. Couple of the openers went nowhere for me.

Nothing that exciting.

Best Neil Young I’ve heard

The tracklisting on this creates a funny but fuzzy listening experience. The initial two tracks are pretty tossed-off, but then the record opens up into long-form folk jamming. From what I've heard so far, this is where Young shines. Round & Round starts like a campfire hymn, then develops vocal harmonies which primed my ears for the following song and kept me listening for them to come back. They never quite did, but that anticipation had me listening closer, including to the fiddle lines which develop late. I must admit that I wasn't engrossed, but I think I see what this music can do. The suggestion of it, at least.

L'album è stato abbastanza scorrevole, mi piace in generale come artista/compositore Neil Young, molte sue idee le trovo semplici ma moderne. Non è quell'album spettacolare che ti lascia a bocca aperta ma comunque è carino. 3

Nije toliko dobar kao njegovi ostali, mozd zbog toga jer baš se vamo osjeti ta električna gitara valjda zbog ovog Ludog Konja, ali moram izdvojiti predzadnju pjesmu Running Dry (Requiem for Rockets).

Young Neil is back and this time with a horse...and by the looks of it, a dog too...and a tree. This summer, from the producers of Neil Young's other work, Neil Young is Neil Young in: "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere". In cinemas soon.

Decent enough. Probably got some good songs on there if listened to a few times through. But there’s plenty of Crosby Stills Nash and Young on here so doubt I’ll listen to this one again.

not his best but emphasis that young is an albums person - they all have their own groove. 3.

Can I just say I love this album but have no idea if it’s good or not?

Liked track 1, "Cinnamon Girl"

The guitar in every song is insane.

Every song is pretty much the same, more or less, though not...bad. It's the 60s semi-country twang feel which, if you're into that, would work. It just feels sapped of energy to me.

I mean, it's fine. It's a late 60's rock album. The guitar is the best thing about it. There are drums present as well as a bass. This album exists. Favorite track: Cinnamon Girl

Just old mueic forst track was alright

Liked this one quite a bit. Solid instrumentation for sure.

Didn't make much of an impression

not bad to have in the background. 3/5

Pretty good King Neil album. Lyrics and solos are great.

Ik was indertijd erg fan van dit album. Tegenwoordig nogal wat minder... Veel uitgesponnen nummers met dito gitaarwerk, typisch NY uit die tijd.

It’s Neil.

Gezellig, maar niet uitzonderlijk.

Het geeft de burger moed dat iemand die vals zingt een wereldster kan worden.

Depressing and a little too country

Cinnamon Girl makes this a solid 3, but outside of Everbody Knows nothing else really makes an impression. I think there is a certain time and place for this album but thats definitely not sitting in my apartment on a workday

I actually really enjoyed the guitar work on this album. I know Neil Young is a large proponent of experiencing music either love or on albums so that instead of listening to tracks of a few minutes and then moving on, you can instead enter that state of being in it. After a couple of times through the album I got lost in it. And I even repeated that final ten minute track so I could get lost in it. It's always lovely when I can take a break from my own mind.

It was pretty good, but I got kinda tired of those stupid background vocals by the end (like that tiny voice repeating everything he was singing)

I get why people love this so much, but just not my cup of tea

3.8 - Straightforward songwriting, poetic imagery, simple but effective guitar work. Standout tracks: "Cinnamon Girl", "Round and Round (It Won't Be Long)." This feels unrushed and the songs somehow feel fresh, emotionally.

Highlight: Cinnamon Girl This is folk, exactly what you'd come to expect from Neil Young. Nothing outrageous or offensive, just good classic folk rock.

Muy de su estilo. Aroma americano. Acordes trascendentes

Some songs I liked and others I didn’t. Just not sure it’s road trip music for me.

Not boring!

Some really good songs but i'm not left with much of a desire to listen again.

It's just ok...

Really nice guitar work. Definitely stoner vibes.

Just fine.

Some excellent riffs, songs were a bit long with almost not enough musical diversity to keep it interesting (I’ve never been a fan of artists who just jam on and on) but as soon as I found myself wishing it would come to a close he pulled me back in with something different. His voice didn’t really do it for me. He reminded me, although he is the precursor, of Elliot Smith, and a quick Google showed me that yes critics felt the same. Would listen to again if forced but prob wouldn’t crack my top 100 of this compendium.

Quality music, not my style

Neil Young to me is the song Heart of Gold. On this album there were some nice Balads.

Easy to listen album. I feel the countryside breeze and the taste of fried eggs an bacon. Interesting introspective as I feel deeply connected with the album's title these days...

A classic album by Neil Young, I had lot of fun discovering this artist I never took time for. Its sounds really modern for 69'

The one instrumental track was a banger

Legal mas meio cansativo

Good stuff!

Neil Young is another one whose voice was never my favorite. This album has really good, trippy music, though. Would listen again.

Not bad Neil

For whatever reason, Neil young has not been my jam historically. He's someone I've always wanted to like but just hadn't really. But to be fair, his discography is so expansive that the few songs I've heard probably don't do it justice. I had to listen to this album 3 times because Tom and I kept talking through it, so I'm basing this on the 3rd listen, but the title track caught me even when we were talking over it. I liked that one. I'm not a fan of his slower songs in general.

Very standard sound and a good listen, no skips but no real highlights either. Nice for a neutral upper typa mood

Cowboy rock

Signs of greatness

Not really a Neil Young guy but this was some good classic rock

Time machine listen

I like down by the river, the rest not so much, neil young shines through regardless as a talent

I'm not super-hyped on listening to Neil Young tbh... I've heard a bit here and there and it's just bland. That 2000s-style Pearl Jam seems to be obsessed with him is damnation enough. I've heard Cinnamon Girl but not sure on the rest. It's honestly not too bad for that American folky-rock late 60s shit, but.... eh? Post-listen: it was ok but went absolutely nowhere. I guess that's kinda the idea with this genre, but it bores me. 3/5 though, just because it wasn't BAD and 2 needs to be reserved for SHIT.

God. Just don’t like Neil Young with or without backing band. Not really a fan of him with friends. Really the “earnest, folksy” 60’s make me feel like I need to get good and wasted and forget about all this bullshit. 2 Boolean: Nah, False, no one really needs to listen to Neil. He’s full of shit.

Did not enjoy this album. The songs are long and not my vibe.

- (quote discovered and taken from someone else's review:) "You go to a supermarket, and you see a faggot behind the fuckin’ cash register; you don’t want him to handle your potatoes.” - Neil Young. Yeah, you can F off Neil Young. - Other than Cinnamon Girl, nothing is really all that memorable to me. - For a short album, the songs really can feel like they go on forever, especially with a lot of boring guitar solos (and one song with shrill violin). - I think it's a 2.5, but I'm rounding down because of the casual misogyny and because nothing stuck after listening to it 3 times.

country rock aint for me but the instrumentals are decent at best. "haunting" is what others and I would describe it in some songs but the lyrics are meh, not for me. conclusion: country rock not for me but the instrumentals are really good tho ngl.

I don't enjoy his brand of terrible singing, song arrangement, or audio production. This didn't do anything positive for me. Having said that, I do applaud him for taking risks. To each their own. Is it me, or does the background singing of the song "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" sound like muppets? Was he ever on The Muppet Show? I'll take just about anyone else's murder ballad over Neil Young's. No, take that back, I don't want any of Nick Cave's either. Hey, any chance we could get him, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, and Bruce Springsteen in a rusty old pickup and send them off a cliff, Thelma & Louise style?

I just hate Neil Young

Not his best

langweilig

Cowgirl in the Sand

meh, pero estuvo lindo

There are people that hate Neil Young, I don’t necessarily count myself as one of that number, but I didn’t care for this. It started out fine, then I found myself getting more irritable as it went on. So many songs are repetitive and boring. His voice doesn’t bother me, but just repeating the same words and doing the same guitar stuff over and over for 10 minutes isn’t fun.

Neil Young's voice is far less annoying on this album than I normally find it. "Cinnamon Girl" is the best song (though I'd rather listen to the Type O Negative version) but I also like "Running Dry."

legalzinho. passa uma vibe de viajando de caro nos anos 70, mas nao é algo que vou revisitar. nota 3,7

Down By the River slapped, the rest are forgettable

Mixing was extremely impressive for the time. The song arrangement was beautiful at times and there are some really catchy riffs. There were times I thought a chord progression would be going somewhere and it would just end abruptly, the lyrics were mediocre but I can't tell if that's a genuine criticism or if it's me from the future retroactively criticizing something that was original for cliche lyrics that I only perceive as cliche because of their influence on the future. Nonetheless, I didn't enjoy the album massively but I didn't think it was bad by any means. I just don't think it's for me personally. It is a good introduction into country for me. I think a 2 star rating a bit harsh but I don't have a 2.5 option and I can't justify giving this a 3. Favorite song: Cowgirl in the sand. Least favorite: Everybody knows this is nowhere

Another one bites the dust.

Yep it's Neil Young

Cinnamon girl - silly lyrics but at the same time they're good and easy to remember. Like the guitar with a little distortion. Loved the outro. Everybody knows this is nowhere- like how quickly it starts. Like the lyrics and love the little guitar riffs. Round and round- a nice intro, soft and relaxing and even more when the voices start singing feels very warm. Really nice song. Down by the river- good introduction loved the guitar and bass lines. Good lyrics, I love how the song moves, at first a little slow and then later it grows stronger but keeping the same "color". Love the riffs they give the song a nice twist. Anyways I think the song is too long due to the instrumental in the middle, which at first is very like the same over and over and later changes to something more interesting but I think it is way too long. At first I loved it but it got a little boring as it is really long. The loosing end- not a fan. Sounds more as if someone was telling me about their day other than listening to a song. Also the instrumental is always the same nothing changes that makes the song a little boring. Running dry- i like the violin, its something new. When he sings it sounds as if it weighted him. Not a song for everyone because it feels heavy listening to it. The cowgirl in the sand- the first silence after the intro feels odd, although then a better instrumental comes with a good guitar line even though a more than 5 minutes into feels very long.

This was okay

I expected this to be better

Not terrible I guess but I couldn’t really get through it. Lot of longer songs, not really my vibe but it wasn’t bad

i didn't get anything out of listening to this album, the same way i didn't the last 4 times i listened to neil young. 2 more times left! how exciting !

I think Neil young likes to play and sing. Songs were unnecessarily long

Neil Young, in my opinion, improved Crosby, Stills, & Nash, but I really don't get on with his solo work, I just can't get passed his voice. This album is slightly better because he has backing vocals from his group, but still I didn't enjoy.

This was not for me. I have never been a NY fan. I am still not ever going to be a NY fan.

One of the stronger 2’s, but it’s far too samey and doesn’t grab the attention enough to push its way up to a 3.

A nice short album for once !! Such a calming, happy, summery vibe. I love the guitar. Fav song is ‘Cowgirl in the Sand’.

It's ok. I like Cinnamon Girl and the title track. The rest of the album is meh. Good rhythm section in the jam sections but Neil Young's jamming and guitar soloing doesn't do anything for me. I understand it's a very distinct style, with the liberal use of the whammy bar, but his playing is just too basic and sloppy for me. The slower songs, I found myself asking, who is this for? I picture old people slow dancing to it but they were young when it came out! And Neil Young was only 24 when he made it. I just couldn't imagine being in my 20's and liking this music. As a Canadian and Winnipegger it pains me to say, I'd rather listen to CCR.

Probably the best one of the four Neil Young albums I've been served so far.

I like the title track :)

Was ok. Some classic rock

no hate to Neil Young, but kinda some hate to the list. 7 of his albums are on here. you're telling me that all 7 of those need to be included on this 1,001 list? seriously? what sets this album apart from any of the 5 that we've already listened to. this isn't particularly memorable, nor do i think it really creates a ton of influence for later artist. i do think that NY isn't getting a fair shake in this, but thats because we've had almost all of his albums in a pretty close time together. make it make sense. am i missing something?

The Neil Young and Crazy Horse albums are so much easier to handle than Neil Young’s solo works. On its own, this album is fine, I let it play and parts caught my attention, and the guitar solos at the end were solid, it just wasn’t that memorable. I’m probably only giving this a two because I’m sick of Neil Young.

After opening with the banger that is Cinnamon Girl, the album itself is average. Down By The River is a great track as well but the other 5 tracks do nothing for me. As I was listening I thought to myself, at some point Neil Young just becomes noise.

Found it to be not very interesting after cinnamon girl. The solos weren’t very inspired and thought they could have done a lot more for the how much runtime they had. Didn’t have time to look at the lyrics too deeply. Could’ve been missing something

I can tell this is probably the only Neil Young album I will even remotely tolerate. There's nothing special here, very much something your dad puts on in the car and that's your cue to pop headphones on. I mean it isn't the worst, given that Young doesn't have his signature style of vocals yet and this is a very brisk album. I just have very little to comment on, none of the lyrics are very interesting but are clearly aiming to be somewhat profound. And the production of the album is really weak. Probably doesn't help this album has been virtually wiped off all streaming except yt playlists. The guitar sections are fine, again very mid. This is peak boomer era music. Fav Track: Cowgirl in the Sand

Individually each track is probably bearable, decent even, but as a collection, one after the other it becomes tedious and overstays it's welcome, much like this sentence.

ughhhh Neil Young again, NEXT

2/5 I'd heard a few songs by Neil Young before and I quite liked them but this album was a disappointment. I only really liked one track and the rest were pretty meh.

Well put together, but every song just refuses to end. I liked every song for the first couple minutes.

Second Neil Young and Crazy Horse album I've encountered on this list. The last one was middling, wonder what I'll think of this compared to that one. "Cinnamon Girl" sounds familiar. Feels like what I was expecting, kinda simple lyrics sung by a mediocre voice a few guitar licks but fairly forgettable. The rest of the album follows suit. I could do without the extended breakdowns in Down by the River and Cowgirl in the Sand, never been a huge fan of long musical interludes in the middle of other songs, see also my struggle with jam bands and/or most jazz music. I can't really see a reason why this album had to be listened to. Neil Young is a household name, but I don't find anything he's doing particularly noteworthy or ground breaking.

Not a big fan.

I don't know I didn't buy this one. There was very little here I gave a shit about, and it mostly just felt like pretty middle of the road "sad dude with a guitar" shit. He's fine, Down by the River is solid, but I just simply did not care for the most part.

Todo muy Creedence, pero mas aburrido. Neil Young yo te quiero porque sos un pionero pero zzzzz

Boring generic country folk album. Nothing special about this one, some unfortunately long songs.

Oh boy another Neil Young album. I'm sure this one won't be some of the most bland and boring folk country I've hear--Nope it is. What mediocre music Neil Young put out, if I hadn't heard songs from a room by Leonard Cohen then I'd probably think this was the most boring album yet. Entirely forgettable, next please.

Perhaps the least objectionable album, yet, from this old woman who refuses to stop screeching into a microphone and pretending to be a cow boy. The supporting band, Crazy Horse, did a good job of distracting me from the horrendous vocals of the old woman.

Just okay for me… cinnamon girl is just such a classic though

Dr. Bland and the Blanditrons.

not my fav but its a good one

Meh, I'm not sure this Neil Young album needs to be here.

Outlier review alert! As a Canadian, I'm supposed to venerate Young out of national guilt. I must admit that there are a few songs - a couple on this LP - that have buried themselves into my consciousness to the point that I really thought I'd enjoy this album. Well, I enjoyed those two songs (and everyone knows which ones those are). However, if it weren't for the mystique around Young - or, say, if this were one of the, oh, 100 or so Brit pop albums I've listened to over the course of this list - I think we'd all be dissing this disc with comments about the vocals and rudimentary guitar playing. But he's an icon, and so we're expected to squeal with glee upon this album's reveal. To conclude: no squeals, no veneration, no reflexive 5 start review. Here's 2 for those 2 songs, and let's move on, shall we?

I'm sick of this dude

Not a huge Neil fan but found myself tapping my foot to the tunes, mainly up front. Running Dry is too slow and then hit some screechy notes that made me have to skip the rest of the song and reminded me why I don't pull NY as a listen. Several have some excellent stereo making it fun at work with headphones.

promedio, no me generó gran atracción.

i mostly hated this, but some of the the instrumental parts were kind of chill

T'was alright.

Country boring asf

A bland album trying really hard to create some flavour it clearly lacks.

Pre-listening: not excited to listen to it, but I'll try to keep an open mind Cinammon Girl: boring, not much to say. Instrumentals are kind of fun, especially the guitar riffs at the end Everybody knows this is nowhere: more fun then the first, I enjoy the lyrics. The vocals are so soft, it's hard to get used to. Giving it another listen with better headphones. There's still something about the soft voice that still gets to me, but it's such a fun song. I've added it to my liked songs for now, will see if it lasts Man, the guy has so many albums Round & round (it won't be long): Vocal are much clearer, so it is posssible. Lyrics are somewhat repetitive, this one I vibe less with Down by the river: Just instrumentals lol, okay, not my vibe The losing end (when you're out): He loves a guitar riff, I like the rythm in this one Running dry (requiem for the rockets): lots of instrumentals again Cowgirl in the sand: made me sleepy This album is very much for people who love music, the theory and shit, I listen to things easier to listen to

His voice suits certain songs more than others

A little slow, a little boring, but had some good parts - favorite track was cowgirl in the sand

Really didn't vibe with it. Can barely remember anything from it, but it also wasn't unpleasant to listen to.

Had trouble telling 1 song from another and didn't enjoy it either way

Every time I see Neil Young I expect Paul Young. And some 80s electro pop. It never is. Dull.

I just don't like neil young. Grew up with my folks enjoying him a bit and never caught the deal. Plenty of other artists around him but never him.

1001 needs more Neil Young albums, for sure

what could have this guy possibly done to get 7 albums on this list. am I missing something because there's nothing happening that I can miss so

Just does nothing for me.

Young & Crazy Neil Horse sounds better

Boomer emo

This is the sixth Neil Young album I've listened to on this list. I think he's fine. Laid back and heartfelt, this has gotta be someone's favorite. It's just not mine. Also, naming your band Crazy Horse but refusing to kill US military leaders is poser shit.

Whiny. Better than I expected, but whiny.

Just didn't land in any way for me

Flourishes of really good musicianship … other than that, it just lacked substance. It was a bit … drab.

Not his best

Haven't listed to much Neil Young outside of Harvest, but this sounded pretty much how I expected it to. Not really to my tastes but not a waste of time either. Longer songs made it a little tougher to stick with but overall solid classic rock album.

This is very nice although some of the guitar solo’s go on a bit. Not an album I am likely to listen to often but pleasant enough.

Not sure about this; kinda random. Ryan was like "what is this". Too slow.

Скрипкой в Running Dry можно пытать в Гестапо.

Zone out a fair amount. Lots of instrumental parts. Loud violin playing is not my jam. Feels like background music at a bar or something.

love the guitar sound on this album, but that's about all.

okay. not my taste

Felt more like a mediocre jam band album than anything else, also whoever recorded that Yoko Ono-esque violin really wanted to ruin some all together decent tracks. Fine as background music but uninspiring, honestly I don't think the optimal listening experience even involves paying attention to the album.

Favorite Song: Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets) Least Favorite Song: The Losing End (When You're On) Booooooooooringggggg. The look on my face after finding out there are 7 albums on this list by this guy...

Yay hot start! Lil guitar action at the end caught my attention and that's it. Not a bad album, just not up my alley.

I knew Cinnamon Girl. I like Neil Young’s voice, but some of these songs were really long.

I think he is better when being covered. The title track is great, but the rest falls flat for me. I have heard other tunes of his I like so I'm not sure why this is swing and a miss for me.

Quality rock

It's just so bland why would you release this

1001 Album Generator power creep is real so I'm patching my scoring. This gets a 2 to reset my meta. No patch notes besides that this album is so boring I gained literally nothing on a second listen. 2

a whole lot of Nothing. just nothing at all to report on this one. i started it, it happened for 40 minutes, and then it ended. i don't even like actively hate it because it's not objectionable it's just.... there. i gave it a relisten and even still i have nothing to say about this. it's like there's a antimemetic field surrounding this album. it's a bit of guitar noodling while he sings about whatever over top. i find the concept of someone saying "oh yes, That's my jam right there" to be baffling.

Mostly just very boring. I didn't hate it, I think I struggled to feel anything for most of it. I think Neil Young is actually probably quite talented but I am not sure what quite leads him to this insane status where he has 7 albums on this list. Most of it is nice, fairly uneventful tunes that make you go "wait how long has this got left?" about half way through. I like the writing I guess, but I just fail to see anything too exciting here.

Couple hits, overall kinda samey and boring

Easy listening. Love a guitar solo. Weak vocals... weak emotional impact...

Just can't get into Neil Young. His voice is just too wet and nothing in his lyrics grab me. Musically, this album is fine but IMHO, Young is too earnest but in a wishy washy way for the most part.

did not like the music in this. It wasn't my type of music at all. At first, the guitars and vibes matched what I liked, but it ended up boring me more than not.

This is the kind of music my mom would listen to in the car, singing her heart out while ten year old me would beg for her to please play something else. She'd respond by turning it up and singing louder

All two stars are for "Down By The River".

The middle of Kansas?

omg shut up neil.

This is a 3-star album with a 1-star singer, which averages it out to a 2.

for lange numer stopede halvajs

I really don't understand how Neil Young has 7 albums on this list. 8 if you count the CSNY album. The opening track, Cinnamon Girl, is quite good. So is track 3, Round & Round. The rest of the album was either uninteresting or actively annoying. There are two tracks on here that are over 9 minutes long. I love prog and jazz and symphonic music so I have no inherent bias against long songs. Neil Young does not do anything in his music that justifies 9+ minute songs. 1.5 stars rounded up to 2.

This is a hard album for me to review, not because it's a bad album or that it's polarizing or anything that would drive me one way or the other. The word that came to my mind when listening to it is just "eh". It's not bad, I'm just not interested in it. Neil Young is old man music. He and Crazy Horse are crazy talented, both lyrically and musically, but I just don't care enough about it. Sure, they can put some licks together, but I'm just not interested enough to enjoy it. It's fine.

country jakies

feels dated. i guess good for the time but it very much has the "this is your dad's rock album" vibe

Jeg tror ikke Neil Young er for meg… jeg er ikke en dadrock type of gal for det meste

There are maybe a few ear worms like Down by the river and Round and Round that I could listen to again. But his music is really not my kind of thing- very slow, quiet, almost 'thin' production wise, quite dull, and I especially did not like Running Dry.

Głosy tych dwóch artystów idealnie do siebie pasują. Gitara idealnie brzmi tu brzmi. Jest kilka fajnych piosenek ale ogólnie to niezbyt jest mój klimat.

not realy my vibe

Another Neil Young in my list already. This one is a bit brighter than on the beach, but still generic sounding for me

It wasn’t really my taste of music

Surprised by this one, because I like Neil Young, and I was utterly bored by this. Not sure if he hadn't really gotten his groove yet but that doesn't seem like it should be the case. Cinnamon Girl I know, everything else kind of plodded along at seemingly the same meter. Won't be revisiting this one.

My least favourite Neil Young album on the list so far. Yawn.

While it started as a fun project to (maybe) discover some unknown albums and possibly even gold nuggets in the form of priceless music, I find this list more and more tedious. Being only at the 140th album of the 1001 I'm supposed to listen to, it seems that my musical knowledge and preferences are much better organized than this author(s)' list. Neil Young isn't helping either - or maybe not at all. I truly think this is the most overrated artist on this list, apart from, of course, Meat Loaf. This album is slightly better than "On the Beach", but that's only due to some rock jams with Crazy Horse. But as soon as they start to play country, with Neil's whining on top of that, I give up. 2/5

bit boring

I respect Neil Young in theory, but in practice this album is rough, grating, and nowhere near Harvest-level emotional payoff.

Oh, come on ... Neil Young? Again?!? *sigh* Well, at least he's not singing solo most of the time on this album, so his whiny voice isn't front and center, but, really, that's hardly enough to warrant an inclusion in this list. 2/5

never listened to neil young before but this is a certified cozy album would listen to this as i fall asleep on a train at night favs! - round & round (it won't be long) - down by the river

Folkrock, 1969 -> 2

This album has a few moments, but mostly in my opinion, very bland. I almost begin to feel like an album like this released today, against the amazing stuff artists are doing, would not even get a look. Almost like would a basketball player from the 60’s even be able to make a modern day team? Just the feeling I get when I listen to some older albums.

Just couldn’t get behind this one. Wasn’t much to it, and a lot of the songs just strung out for too long. Thought I would like it more, but I wasn’t a fan.

Mostly one note but we’ve had worse notess

Cinnamon girl is an excellent song. The perfect marraige between guitar vocals and lyrics. Immensely playable. The rest not so much. Youngs whine does not age so well and always needs to be less prominent in the mix. Here it is front and centre.

I am not a big Neil Young fan. His voice is like fingernails on a blackboard. With that being said, this album is somewhat tolerable. Cinnamon Girl was a great start and then it kind of plateaued.

Incredibly average

background music ahh. i don't fuckin know, man, i talked about how bad dandandan season 2 was the entire time this was playing - at no point at all did the music leap out & fascinate. i've listened to jimi hendrix - i am not inherently fascinated by random people on guitar...i met the god of guitars

När Young håller sig under fem minuter är det helt ok. Men när det blir taffligt bluesrocksjam för hela slanten vill jag inte varas med. Titelspåret är rätt bra resten är trist eller till och med uselt. En mycket svag tvåa.

*1969. *Hits: Cinnamon Girl and Down by the River. *Boring. Normally I really dig Neil Young but this was not at all memorable. RATING - 6.5/10

I actually didn't love this one. Usually like Neil Young. 2 stars

Can’t stand Neil Young got bored after 2 songs

A couple familiar songs on this album. Not a huge fan of Neil Young but he’s is alright. 2.5 stars

#185/1001. Don't know why, but always when I try to get into Neil Young's music I find it super boring. Wheather he reinvented americana or created something of his own, I don't care since it is so dull.

This album is pretty good when Neil shuts the fuck up

N a j a - vorletzter Song hat ein katastrophal schlechtes Violinen(?)Solo, Cinnamon Girl und das Outro kann man machen.

Sehr soft, slow paced, bisschen langweilig. Nicht so meins!

Boring

Meh. 2.1

Hearing „Cinnamon Girl“, probably Young‘s heaviest song, got me hoping for a fine Album (although the cover by Type O Negative is soooo much better). But then the old Neil came back with his songs somewhere between Country and Rock and Roll Solo-Guitar masturbation. What‘s hilarious is, the one song, where he is singing about killing his wife/girlfriend. And then in the next song he is crying about how hard love hit him and what a poor mf he is, now that she is gone. LOL. Fav: Cinnamon Girl

Not very interesting

Country rock focused but not exactly my sorta rock, not really bumpin to it

Sleepy tunes. 2 stars.

I typically like folk rock albums but I just must not have been in the mood for folk, because I didn’t really enjoy it. Nothing particularly stood out to me. It wasn’t bad, just bland.

It was OK, I didn't really notice it while I had it on. So it wasn't offensive nor particularly gripping.

Found this pretty boring

It's fine. Honestly, it sounds like fairly generic 60s/70s rock and I can't see what the fuss is about

Not for me. I guess it's technically fine... I was just bored.

Not really a fan.

In my opinion, Neil is better when he rocks. Cinnamon Girl is great. When he's folksy or whiny, meh, no thanks. Cinnamon Girl = 5 Everything else = 1 to 2. Total 2.

2.5 stars “Round and round and round we go” kind of summarized my feelings with this album. At times it felt like a chore. But it wasn’t terrible. I am more familiar with Neil’s popular stuff, “Heart of Gold” and “Don’t Let it Bring You Down” and “Only Love Can Break Your Heart” and such. So when I’d see this album I assumed that his earlier stuff was folky. I was surprised to find a fuzzy jam record with just one more acoustic soft song. It starts off with the 2 strongest tracks, the main ones I can recall with some time. The rest of the records, once again, isn’t bad but didn’t stand out to me. The jams were a little overindulgent, but perhaps I’m so used to this type of music for decades afterwards that I’m not appreciating what this offered in 1969? It’s possible. But for me, this album didn’t feel like a revelation.

If the police went to the country and decided to do some country music while they were there.

I didn't like it

Kinda boring

Cinnamon Girl is a great song, and I mostly like Neil Young, but there's a little too much guitar noodling on this record for my taste. The other songs aren't much to write home about, but they're nice enough. Good background album

Didn't finish it

Early reggae for middle American hillbillies. Music to drive the old f-150 to

Better than expected, but I didn't expect much. This is one of those albums that starts with a certified classic and then never comes close to reaching that high again, so the entire record feels like an anticlimax. The meandering 10 minute long closing track doesn't help.

It's all ok. Just one track would have been ok though. It wouldn't matter which one.

i’m not the biggest blues fan tbh, not my favourite neil young album

More like Everybody Knows This Album Goes Nowhere. What is the deal with this much Neil Young on this list? There are so many other American singer/songwriters that did what he did but without sounding so whiney and one-note. So little varies from album to album with this guy. The “la la la la” singing about 35 seconds into the title track is particularly laughable. Seriously, it’s not charmingly human, it’s grating my ears. At least “Round & Round” follows that song up, which reaches redeemable levels of listenability. We gotta remove most of these NY albums PLEASE. Soft 2/5 dont make me give this man another 1/5

Neil Young has many songs I like; none of them are on this album

Solid album. Good performances from Crazy Horse, and as always very tight songwriting from Neil Young. Nothing really stuck out to me too much but it was a nice listen.

Not his best.

I don't understand all the love for this album. It's boring. Round & Round (It Won't Be Long) is a lie...it felt like the longest song ever on then to be followed up 9+ minute snoozer...shortly followed by another boring 10 minute track featuring 3 guitar solos which go nowhere.

Very nearly the first one I couldn't finish - just found it really quite boring and even unpleasant in places. Feels like a 4/10 if generous.

It's not necessarily bad or anything, but to me it just really bored me very quickly. I think it's a combination of how old it sounds and how limited the instrumentation is most of the time. Just really not for me

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzldaxAtloo Bookend tracks are alright, the middle? shit sandwich 2/5

maybe the least crazy horse i've ever heard tbh

OK nada demais Sem musica fav

I like the raw energy of this but it just seems too spontaneous and not worked out, which apparently is typical of everything Neil Young does. Really this album could be 25-28 minutes long as the solos in Down By The River and Cowgirl are needless and unfocused, Running Dry and Round and Round (It Won't Be Long) are much longer than they need to be... again, like the energy but feels too unrehearsed.

I found this to be quite dull. My favourite track was “Down By The River” but after being served up Herbie Hancock’s “Head Hunters” yesterday, this ten minute song with solos-galore felt like child’s play.

More Neil Young, great. This at least is while he could still sing and didn't sound like he was talking in to a mic without any of the musicians knowing about it. It's fairly boring, nothing really great or memorable in here. Just kind of a classic easy listening/soft rock kind of sound, and it’s not even good because Crazy Horse seems kinda shit at actually playing their instruments. Maybe the one notable bing is the "plagiarism" in this album in "Down By The River" which sounds a bit like old CSNY, but not as good since the harmonies aren't anywhere close. I dont' think this should be on here. It's entirely forgettable.

This album sounded fine but god I was just so bored. Not really into Neil Young and every album from him I’ve had from this listen hasn’t really done much for me.

Not for me. Not bad. But not for me.

Neil you just don't do it for me.

A decent rock album ruined by Neil Young's frail, whiny voice.

Im about half way through and think this may be my seventh Neil Young album, which i think is too much. This has some good tunes but im happy to die having heard maybe 2 or 3 of these

I don’t mind Neil Young generally, but I find his early efforts quite dull and this is no exception.

With no real Neil Young listening experience, I'm not sure what I expected from this, but I wouldn't have guessed "a bit dull". I didn't dislike it, but I didn't engage with any of it. And I am not a fan of his voice at all. I think that leaves me on: 2/5

Too maudlin for me. I’ve always liked Cinnamon Girl though so it’s interesting to hear the album that surrounded that gem in its entirety. I like Down By The River, seems familiar. Billy Talbot is a heck of a bass player, particularly on Cowgirl In The Sand. Might add that song into more regular rotation.

I don't like this, not at all. I don't like the sound of a Cinnamon Girl. I don't like the voice, don't like the songs. I tried to make it through, but I didn't last long.

He has a good voice and the guitar playing is great. Its something about that old recording sound that's old but not to old that feels really nice listening to. Its mostly to slow for me in the rock genre though so not something I will listen to often again.

Fine, not my style of music though

Mich dunkt das Album nüd so crazy. De Lakotahäuptling Crazy Horse sälber hät mit äm Sitting Bull u.a.am Little Bighorn gege d U.S.-Kavallerie kämpft und isch än richtige Guerilliakämpfer gsie. Als junge Maa hätter Curly Hair gheisse😂. Gebore öppe 1840, ischer 1877 wahrschiendli vo de eigene Lüüt im Fort Robinson erstoche worde.

It’s Neil Young. Country-esque and moody. I enjoed this.

Liked the two closing tracks but not much else stands out for me here

Not interesting, boring to listen to, not of great quality, but that‘s partly because it is Neil’s second album

Not crazy about this album, but I did like the song (it won’t be long) very dad rock. I give it a 2, not because it’s a bad album, but because on my scale I’d probably only listen to the one song.

very familiar with cinnamon girl - less so the others - i'd listened to harvest but not this album

Alte Männer an Gitarre, Trucker, Grillen + RSA

Sorry Neil

Found it a bit dull, especially after On the Beach. Album cover looks like he's doing yoga against that tree

Not as good as 'On the Beach'. Sounds like any old 60s album to me.

Just ok.

Not a huge fan of Neil Young’s voice. Cinnamon Girl’s alright but the rest of the album is somewhat forgettable. At least it’s shorter than the Stills’ album.

Neil Young has , without doubt, some great songs but he has many many more duds. The first track on this album , Cinnamon Girl,is a cracker. Down by the River could be great but is 6 min too long. The rest are turgid.

Background music. Not impressed. 2 stars.

Nothing spectacular here, this sounded worse than the other Neil Young album I listened to before this, Harvest. Another solid 2 stars for Mr. Young here.

i didn’t like :(((

Rating - 2.3/5. Changed my mind🥰 > nothing special ….. first track was boring. All normal length songs then just a 9 min song out of nowhere tysmmmm. I like the instrumentals on The Losing End. The lyrics on Running Dry are good. Cowgirl in the Sand is giving me Steve miller band vibes. I could have died without hearing this album i think lol. > thumbs up: cowgirl in the sand… LOL

Not my favorite
