Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Can’t say I had heard of this album or artist previously and my life isn’t any better for now having heard it. I understand why it would be an important album however it’s very of its time and has aged like milk. Wouldn’t waste my time with this again. Favourite Track: Doowutchyalike

I hate oatmeal lumpy or not.

A joke right? Its not very good at all. Humpty Dumpty was the 'highlight' then it descended into the dark pit of 'why bother making music for the sake of it?'

дъното

Shite.

What was this? Because it's here on this list I want to say that there's some visionary jazz sampling going on and that the theme of the record is a bold statement on consumer culture.. But I think it's just bad. I think the beats sound like bad 90s rap beats and the lyrics sound like an extremely dated perverted fantasy that someone should have kept to themselves rather than put to music.

uh, yeah... no!

This did not age well.

Had to tap out halfway through, not my thing at all

very boring beats

Not my style

Oke ja, the Humpty Dance is een geestig nummer. De rest minder. 1.0

I don't know what I was expecting from a group called Sex Packets, but this was probably it.

Yeah, I wasn't feeling this one. There's the Humpty Dance, and that's about it.

An excellent parody of the bland subject matter and repetitive crap of 90’s hip hop. Oh what’s that? It’s not a parody?! Oh god…

to hip hop - nawet nie będę słuchać… totalnie nie mój vibe

Boring

I always thought I enjoyed '90s hip hop—until this challenge had me listen to Sex Packets by Digital Underground. Honestly, the album felt flat. It dragged on without much purpose or standout moments. Most of the tracks blurred together, lacking impact or memorability. Overall, I found it pretty underwhelming and don’t see myself returning to it. Favourite track: The Humpty Dance gave me a laugh—it has some quirky charm—but even that felt a bit stretched out. Least favourite: Hard to pick just one. The whole album felt like a sea of mediocrity, nothing really rose above the rest. Album artwork: Typical of the era—dark tones, oversized fonts, and a gritty aesthetic. Nothing particularly distinctive.

SO ASS AND CORNY

The album seems partly preoccupied by how great/different they are in terms of their delivery or things like their funk. Newsflash very little of difference here and there’s a limit how many songs about the technicalities by of making the song is interesting/bearable. When the lyrical content moves away from this, isn’t doesn’t get any better unfortunately. This album is definitely of its time and there’s nothing here that suggests it shouldn’t be left there.

I had actually managed to blank this album from my mind until I came to review it. Make of that what you will.

On track one and the lyric about his nose being "big like a pickle" made me roll my eyes. And then that song pointlessly went on for 6 1/2 minutes. The next track (The Way We Swing) decided to one-up that, by being even longer. And the whole album sort of carried on in the same vein - everything was longer than it needed to be, there were excessively long outros where nothing happened and everything just sounds so dated. It might be that this comes immediately after the generator giving me Queen Latifah and Beastie Boys, but I did not have patience for this album. The idea that 2Pac started with this group is inexplicable. "Peace and humptiness forever"? Pah! 1/5

Well, that was shit. Imagine a track that just lists countries and says "They like us there." Imagine that's one of the more interesting tracks on the album.

How is this on the list??? Absolutely garbage!

it gave me massive headache. didnt like it at all

# Album Name: Sex Packets # Artist: Digital underground # Rating: 1/5 # Comments: No, just no. Terribly dated and horrible 90s rap. It would have been a 2/5 but the length pushed it down to a 1. # Top Tunes: Wut # Would I listen to it again? No

More lame than bad. But pretty bad too.

Note much interesting here today. But I get (or think I get) what was set in motion. CC Music Factory made it into my genre experience back then. This did not.

Did not like at all.

Incredibly grating

if gutfest ‘89 existed it would have record breaking numbers for attendees running away before the closing headliner. people would get trampled. travis scott but in the other direction

I want to apologize for all of the bad things I said about Deep Purple. This is the worst album I have ever heard. I cannot fathom it being topped as the bottom. If you genuinely LIKE or LOVE this album then you fucking suck and have actual problems BAD BAD BAD and you NEED help NOW (yesterday). Holy FUCK TAKE THIS OFF THE LIST HOLY SHIT THIS ALBUM SUCKS I HATE YOU 1001 ALBUMS I HATE YOU Like beyond it being stylistically unimpressive after time’s passage, the lyricism is not only boring and corny by today’s standards, but half of the songs are just fucking vile… like even if the beats are sometimes not terrible, ypu have to overlook fucking perversion freak shit just to hear them ???? like this SUCKS IT JUST FUCKING SUCKS ??!!!!!!!1! Thanks collapsing economies! Rest in peace pop smoke who pop smoke

Imagine an all-time classic rap album with thought-provoking bars, incredible beats, and an utterly groundbreaking concept to boot. That's the description of an imaginary album that is the opposite of this Fav song: The New Jazz (One) or none

In a nutshell: get your freak on. Overall: 1/10

Lixo. 0.5/5

After Nas came the laid-back West Coast vibes. This album is supposed to have helped shape the local funky sound but less than a year before Dre’s The Chronic, and after De La Soul, it already feels pretty dated. And it drags on… way too long, and with weird lyrics. Kinda boring despite few good grooves.

best left in 1990

1 Star (2/15)

Clownish, directionless HipHop with overly long songs while flows and rhymes are instantly dated and. corny

Not bad but outdated.

Faux-erotic jazz-hop of the highly unimpressive variety. How in the name of The Lord And Saviour Jesus Christ did this stupid concept of an album end up on such a list?

Bad 90s rap.

I’ve never heard about this before but I have to say just reading the album description on Wikipedia was worth the price of entry. Thing is it’s still early nineties hip hop. It’s not the worse of the genre because they have great samples but the rapping and overall production is just cringe.

A little too explicit for me.

I went into this project telling myself that I would listen to everything and give it a proper chance - this is the first album (#542) that I just can't do that for. This does absolutely nothing for me.

“Cause I know I’m the poop. Steaming hot, stinking up the dance floor.” On another note why was this literally two years long.

Based purely off of the album art and title I know exactly what I’m stepping into with this album. Yep, no way, lo and behold it was a 90s rap concept album about sex. It looks dated, sounds dated, feels dated, smells dated, and tastes dated. Not to mention every track goes on for way too long. It was excruciating getting through this. The one point I’ll give this album is these guys were obviously just having fun and vibing. “No more will I ever have to jack it cause instead, I can just take a sex packet.” This is peak.

So very unpleasant

Wow, this was bad. No idea what this is doing on this list, it's terrible and has not aged well at all. Sounded like it was made by a bunch of horny teenage boys, Gutfest '89 in particular was just gross. Favourite tracks: none Definitely not one to revisit. 1/5

The lyrics were so bad

I just found this mostly annoying

This sounds like a pastiche of a rap album And not a good one

This was a real struggle for me. I checked the date of release several times, because the rapping felt like something from 1985, with 1990's shock value thrown in. A few tracks gave Flight of the Concords vibes - silly songs about who they are and about rapping itself. I didn't make it through all 65 minutes, but I'm just thankful I wasn't listening to the 85 minute cassette version!!!

Early rap

Hip hop, 🤔🧐

I don't really understand the appeal. I don't really care to listen to music that objectifies people. Maybe I am misunderstanding this album; the sci-fi storyline at the end implies something deeper is going on here. It started to redeem the album for me, but then it didn't stick the landing.

After Straight Outta Compton came out in '89, most of us were over this New Jack Swing inspired hip hop. And I still am.

1. humpty dance - 1.5 2. zuuing - 1 3. funk - 1 4. jazz - 0 5. rimez - 0 6. gutfezt - 0 7. zone - 0 8. freakz - 0 9. doo - 1 10. packet - 0 11. zez - 0 12. ztreet - 0 13. man - 0 14. reprize - 0

What an awful album. I love modern hip hop and appreciate the rough patches we needed to get here, but damn. Over an hour of weird horny repetitive rapping in weird voices, with bad skits mixed in. 1/5

I was mild on the record for a while, but the last two tracks became way more rape-y than I was expecting and it really sank my thoughts on the album.

In what world, in what universe, in what dimension is this an album one must listen to before they die? I envy those fortunate enough to depart this life without enduring it. Score: 1/5

Not my thing.

Dreadful

Appalling

all of the songs on this album are way way too long. also some shite lyrics

This was awful

I tuned out pretty quickly, the sound is just so generically 90's. I think parts of this were supposed to be funny but I wasn't laughing

The bass line on the Humpty Dance is brilliant. Other than that, I hear an hour of young men awkwardly stroking their own egos over mediocre robotic backing tracks.

Lyrics are terrible, couldn't get past that - nope

not my style

Didn’t love. The sound was not for me and though a product of its time, I found a lot of the songs sexist and demeaning towards women. Was cringing through a lot of it.

Awful music for (what I can only assume are) awful people.

The cover and the fact that 2Pac was involved at some point (later on) was somewhat promising. But after what felt like a hundred 6+ minutes hip hop songs with little variation, I had to give up hope and just let the record play out while doing more important stuff like organizing cleaning supplies.

Not for me. Very dated.

Luckily I had something else to do so wasn't a complete waste of time. Shame the app doesn't allow us to score zero for complete trash like this.

I didn't enjoy this one at all. Very dated, very same-y, and needlessly long.

Sorry, but not even the fact that it's about a space orgasmer packet made it any less boring.

Horrible

Never wanted to rate something 0 more. I would actually consider looking into how I can remove this garbage from my play history on Apple Music. Certainly will be deleting from Last FM. Just .... ew.

The 90s funk and horny sci-fi are .. maybe .. fun for 1-2 songs, but getting through an entire album of it felt like work.

Not for me

Fresh prince without the humour

This was a very cringe album. I'm all up for a concept album, but preferably not one written by adolescents! It could have been good, but it wasn't. First and last listen. lol

A light hearted (ish) hip hop album from this era which isn't about angry sex and drugs and guns (like most of the hip hop albums we've listened to so far!) - on the other hand it's still about futuristic sex and fictitious drugs, so not that far from the usual themes! I guess the creators of this album had to make up scenarios of virtual reality sex - because I can't imagine anyone wanting to f**k them IRL. I'd sum this up by saying its cringy, immature and creepy and still pretty misogynistic. No desire to listen again!

This didn't hit for me

If you like this kind of thing, it;s probably good. Not my style at all.

An album where every random 30 second snippet sounds exactly the same has 0 reason to be over an hour long.

Classic hip hop

Not really into that early rap

HipHop geht gar nicht! 0/5

Wertung: 👀(👀)/5

awesome thanks

I do not like the way they swing. The first album on this list I fully gave up on halfway through, so apologies to Digital Underground if they finally got good at the end.

gross gross music

Almost unlistenable.

This album was so bad. If I never heard a song off of this album again I would die a happy person. I kind of liked a few songs, but they then were played over and over until the playtime reached 6 minutes or more.

Sexual Hip Hop

Couldn't get through it after halfway, it's repetitive in a bad way, the vocal delivery is cringe worthy and hilarious in the wrong way, didn't enjoy it at all unfortunately, the first 3 songs combined are 19 + minutes long and it gets on your nerves, beats are somewhat funky at times but there's nothing to keep it from getting stale

Wel this sucked had higher hopes due to the name but 1/5

I did not like this at all. I can see how it would've been influential to hip hop in the early 90's, but I couldn't finish it. Lots of the same beat and talking about themselves and sex. I thought it was terrible. 0.5/5

Didn’t listen. Not a fan of funk music

Wow. I know early Rap... but man, it is unlistenable to me! Sorry

This didn't age well.

A little repetitive beats/melody

Well…for Hiphop Historians I believe this to be an important one. I sense a certain stiffness. Bored from the beginning. Sorry.

Okay sooo I did hate everything about this album and anybody compared would sound like an angel. Very hard to take him seriously right off the bat just because of the voice and then just oh god why is this on the list I cant I cant.

This is now the worst thing that I have ever heard in my life. And there is sooooo much of it. Who the FUCK thought ANY of this would be worth listening too? This is so bad, it put me in a bad mood for the day. How the fuck did this shit make it to the list? And I would like to hear how many of these guys have been #metoo ed. Ask the songs are about date rape.

this cunt calls himself Humpty Hump. is there any more to say?

Shower of shit

This album sucks. The content feels immature, and the performance of it feels like the artist is bored while doing it. If the artists themselves can't even enjoy it, why should I?

Completely mediocre rapping over completely mediocre beats. Performers who sound bored performing their own music...what exactly are you doing this for?

Can’t even listen to it for 5 secs.

Dated garbage

Vond dit wat saai en langdradig

Like it was written by 12 year olds, and with nothing musically interesting enough to make up for that

Not sure why this records is here.

Some cool beats, but really didn’t like any other aspect of this record. Lyrics are too cheesy and uninteresting.

Not at all my music

This has aged painfully.

Not a rap fan

One star - at most...

disappointing. i’m often very into early 90s hip hop, but that’s mostly because i only listen to the best from that (great) era. this is not the best. the samples are badly chosen, the flows are super basic and boring, and (of course) there’s a ton of casual misogyny.

Poor. Not humorous, just not anything.

This was dire

That is the most tedious piece of crap I've ever failed to not listen to.

For me it's not music.

Shite. They had a song about how they were so cool cos they have sex. Fucking lame.

Wow that's so much not my cup of tea. The lyrics are hilarious, the beat is predictable.. it has been quite hard to listen to it all

Old hip hop is generally bad. This is very old hip hop.

Rap - I had excluded this from my albums - I detest it. A rating of 1 will be given. This is because there is no option to record 'no rating' and I really did not like any of it.

The music is uninteresting and the production aged poorly. The misogynic lyrics are appealing. I really like hip hop and really dislike this album.

Hip hop executed badly. Poor effort.

Humpty Dance album- corny rap

Awful. Pointless.

Ég hélt fyrst að þetta væri grín. Svo mundi ég eftir árinu 1990.

They're very talented. I just didn't think it was that funny. 1

Tentei ouvir muitas vezes, nunca terminei. Vou pular pra ir pro próximo.

not my thing

Aika sekavaa.

This is bad. Ive never been fond of the "new Jack swing" genre, but this has little redeeming qualities. The only beat that I found mildly interesting is The Humpty Dance, and I don't know if it's actually intriguing or just nostalgia.

Really?

Reggae and Hip Hop are gonna be two genres I'm gonna struggle with a lot. I'm sure it's good even tho it's not for me.

Aged badly, and it wasn’t even that great to begin with

I just can’t
