The Sensual World - Kate Bush wow! Never sat down and listened to Kate before. I REALLY like this album. lots of layered melodies, exotic themes, etc. Apparently "Hounds of Love" is even better. Looking forward to getting that one.

Excellent. I think this was my second favorite Kate Bush album we've done.

The Fog is een exemplarisch nummer.

wonderful

Good, but I hope this isn't the only one by her on this list. Not her strongest album, but some nice more unknown songs

It’s not Hounds of Love, but it is a great outing nonetheless. Some high highs (This Woman’s Work, Love And Anger) and some forgettable moments, but no real lows. A solid listen start to finish.

When it comes to progressive, art rock, and sophisti-pop, Kate Bush was truly forward thinking. She was always on the cutting edge of what was possible with production and studio technology at the time. I wouldn’t say this is the most technically impressive album she’s made in terms of studio wizardry, but it’s still a really well produced record overall. She’s very tuned in to detail, to where it feels like every sound is deliberately placed, with purpose and precision. On top of that, she does an excellent job of giving the album an earthy and mystical atmosphere that makes it feel intimate, otherworldly, and forward thinking.

Pretty interesting. Better than I expected. Slowed up a little at the end. I know nothing about Kate bush but I bet she is both interesting and weird in real life

Better than I remembered. Not my favorite album of hers.

Un peu moins emballée que par l'album culte Hounds of love, un peu plus contemplatif mais ça reste une très bonne écoute.

Pas mon album préféré mais ça reste du Kate Bush donc ça vaut bien un 4/5

While I don't think I would ever reach for a Kate Bush record, I also don't think I've ever heard a bad Kate Bush record. And this one is no exception to that rule. But the sheer scope of songs like "Reaching Out" is inspiring. This is the culmination of everything the 80s became...in every good way. Toward the end I got really tired of the wailing and there wasn't as much to hold on to as I would have liked. But Rocket's Tale pulled me out of that malaise and the monster "This Woman's Work" showed up like a siren and I could see Tori Amos and a million songwriters being born.

My only exposure has been Hounds of Love, and I don't know if this reaches those heights, but still very good nonetheless. Love and Anger is a standout.

Not my favorite of hers, but it still rules.

back when musicians used to create art inspired by a novel they read or film they saw. not just slop put out to sell sweaters. fuck you taylor swift

I have one Kate Bush album but not this one. I like this one too.

Makes a man want to get sensual in Castle Autism.

Beautiful soaring vocals plus moody angst in the music complemented beautifully by keys and strings.

As some of my first exposure to Kate Bush, and after hearing a few of her other, much more popular songs, I can safely say that she is a truly great artist. The pop influence on this album is heard through many of its songs, but it still has a very somber tone. I can't say much else about it, it's a solid 8.5/10.

"Let the pendulum swing between a man and a woman - don't you see you're in the way between a man and a woman?" "Every single night I pray"

Awesome

This woman’s work pushes this to a 4 for me. Low 4 but a 4 nonetheless. Really pretty stuff.

Kate Bush at it again. We went through my top artist list yesterday and my girlfriend was amazed that Kate Bush was up there. But every release I've listened so far was fresh and fun.

Good shit

This was really good, lots of lovely stuff. Have liked This Woman’s Work (the song) for some time, so nice to hear the album too. Simpsons: Yes

Zuhause, Heidenheim, Deutschland. Feines Album!

Solid album, uten spesielle høydepunkt. Hadde holdt med ett av de andre albumene hennes på lista.

Overall: 8/10 Kate Bush has one of the most beautiful and versatile voices I've heard in my life. Her music always makes me stop and listen no matter what, because her songs can be so beautiful or so strange that you can't help but notice it. I don't watch Stranger Things but the one thing I can say about that show is that it brought Kate's music a lot more attention and I likely would not have known who she was or showed any interest in her music if my friend's hadn't heard her in that show. Fav Song: Love and Anger

I'm a massive Kate Bush fan and love this album but it's a step down from The Kick Inside, The Dreaming and Hounds of Love. Not sure it belongs on this list since if those three others aren't on it.

Am I allowed to say that this sounds like an earlier version of what Bjork did, still very cool but yeah def got that pop vibe to it whilst leaning into some beautiful world based instrumentations and vibes

I mean, this is high art-rock. Each song is like a character-sketch vignette or super short story. It's very writerly. And the heavy synth textures, Irish(esque) folk instruments, and classical aspirations make it a heady listen. "Woman's Work" is amazing and I want to like the record, but I think I can not fully like it because it is largely hookless. Am I so basic that I need a hook from time to time? Yep. Guess so

Kate's got some big shoes to fill after the stunningly magical Hounds Of Love album. And incredibly, she kind of does it. There's just as much mystery, fantasy, intrigue, and charm as her earlier hit record. Admittedly, some of the songs' melodies are a little difficult to latch onto for a first listen. And there aren't any obvious "anthem" tracks that would be instantly recognisable to any passers-by. (I didn't recognise any of these.) This Woman's Work is a bit of an inert ballad, presumably relying on its lyrics and not interesting/engaging music to deliver its message. The echoey production definitely doesn't help. Not that it's a bad track – I guess I'm just surprised it's the most popular track here when head-nodders like Love And Anger and The Sensual World exist in the same record-space. The title track, in particular, is so darn smooth, uplifting... just all-around listenable. And it has that clichéd string instrument used in the majority of country songs (fiddle?). Excellent. Love And Anger is also a highlight, this time for its drum-piano combo and positively infectious bassline. (Man, listen to those lines at around 2:30. Mind-blowing.) I also like the subtle nods to Stevie Nicks's material in this tracks and various others. Another standout is Heads We're Dancing, which has that dangerously catchy VII-IV-I progression that makes me instantly fall in love with a song. The Fog is also a song of interest: the instrumentation is otherworldly, whereas the structure is... well, a little confusing. It's a song worth listening to a few times, I think. 4/5 Key tracks: The Sensual World, Love And Anger, Heads We're Dancing

Heard better Kate Bush but still a great album, loved everything I've heard from her so far

Beautiful pop. Not to cheesy. Great instrumentation and what a voice!

It's not as extraordinary as Hounds of Love, but what is? It's still great, and This Woman's Work is one of her best.

Love This Woman’s Worth. Not a bad album actually, quite enjoyed it.

It's difficult to describe this album properly. It's quite beautiful at times, but at the same time there's quite some choices i do not understand at all. I think i would understand a lot more with multiple future listens, but for now I'm not too sure what to give it. 4 stars seems fitting, not because of how much i necessarily enjoyed it, but because of how much I want to listen to it more

Cool album. Enjoyed it. Standout songs: Love and Anger Reaching out This Womans Work

first listen! tis quite iconic-it's like a mix of dream and experimental pop, there's kinda a little bit of everything. I lovee her voice, it's so authentic favorite song: either rocket's tail or the fog

Not her best, but still better than most

Bush is someone I’ve always wanted to get into, and this was one hell of an advertisement. Controlled, restrained yet flamboyant and explosive pop. She can sing.

As I was listening to this album, I was preparing to comment on how it was a pretty reasonable listen. Sonically interesting. I enjoy the non western vocal textures and otherworldly harmonies, such as in Deeper Understanding. Interesting song about bumping into Hitler at the dancing. Then I reached the 3rd last track, Rocket's Tail, and I thought actually maybe this is great. Then the next track played, This Woman's Work, and I legitimately got full body chills. This does happen to me on occasion, but it was particularly enjoyable as it came out of nowhere. I love surprise goosebumps. I then relistened to the full album and it hit a little different. Its not music i would usually listen to but I enjoyed the experience and I would revisit Ms Bush's work. Favourite track - This Woman's Work. 7.5/10

She’s a queen.

i quite enjoy the uniqueness of her voice. there is a complexity to this album that i have not found before. i love women! reaching out is my favorite

3.5 rounded up

Really great. Even better on a second listen. 4.5

An odd album filled with stripped back 80s beats, low level vocals on some songs but there are gems throughout as well. The Sensual World, Love and Anger, Deeper Understanding and the fantastic This Woman's Work. Kate Bush isn't an artist I have listened to a lot, and mostly seems to write brilliant songs that sound better when others cover them. I still enjoyed this and expect would appreciate it further with more listens.

Jeg siger dette som en gigantisk Kate Bush fan: Kun en engelsk liste ville inkludere dette som et essentielt album. Hendes debut, Never for Ever, The Dreaming, Hounds of Love som minimum er mere essentielle end den her.

Vocals sound the same in each song. Nice instrumentals.

This was a fun album. 80's without being too 80's. Kate has a great voice. I'd listen again.

This woman’s work is one of the greatest songs written. Great album.

Thoughts before listening: I enjoyed the other Kate Bush album I heard on hear, but that one had "Running Up the Hill". I am not as familiar with this album, but in general I enjoy Kate's weirdo arty pop music, so it seems like I'll probably like this as well. Review: I liked this quite a bit actually. Kate Bush is a good singer with a nice voice and these art pop songs remain interesting throughout. There is a lot more substance to this album than the average 80s pop singer, and even without a recognizable massive hit like her previous album, this is still very enjoyable. This is a 4-star album to me.

The first two tracks of this album are absolutely fantastic, specially the first one, which gets me excited evey time. After these tracks it gets a bit weaker, but this record is really great. I love how good this sounds. The way she sings and makes some weird noises sometimes, the variety of the instruments used (like flutes or pipebags I think...) and the production are fantastic and very unique. I haven't listened any other album from her before, but this album feels like a breath of fresh air in comparition from the material from this genre and time. A great suprise.

The Sensual World – Kate Bush (1989) | Art Pop / Progressive Pop | Avg: 8.5 | Favorite Song: “Love and Anger”* The Sensual World is lush, layered, and bursting with emotional nuance—Kate Bush at her most elegant and earthy. “Love and Anger” stood out as the peak for me: it’s sweeping, cathartic, and showcases everything that makes her such a singular artist. But truthfully, this album is stacked. Tracks like “This Woman’s Work” and “The Fog” show her range not just as a vocalist, but as a producer and composer—every detail feels intentional, yet organic. What impressed me most is how immersive the album is. It doesn’t rush or pander. It draws you in slowly, with rich textures and poetic ambiguity, and once you’re in, it doesn’t let go. There’s a sensuality here that’s not just romantic—it’s spiritual, intellectual, and deeply human. It might not have the immediate punch of Hounds of Love, but it trades that for something more mature and intimate. From a reviewer’s standpoint, The Sensual World is proof that subtlety can be just as powerful as spectacle.

Listened in the truck via YouTube music. I had never before listened to a Kate Bush album. This is really centered around her voice as it should be, but the music is special too. It definitely has an 80’s sound that is specific to the time it was made, but there are some timeless songs. The Fog was an amazing song that shows very few listens online when comparing to the singles from the album. This Woman’s Work is where the “Ah hauuuu” that I’ve heard many times before without reference comes from. I’ll definitely be digging into more of her body of work.

Never been a fan of the Bush, but this was a grower. Took me 3 goes to decide if I did really like it, or was it just a novelty. But each time, I kept finding extra layers to enjoy. Atmospheric and sonically brilliant. Reminded me very much of some of the Gabriel albums of that era. Explains why they did that duet I guess.

4 star

Man, the tail-end of this album was really, really good. It starts with “Never Be Mine,” which is a cool track. Then comes “Rocket’s Tail,” which reminded me of the experimental vocal samples in Holly Herndon’s “Frontier.” After that is the great track “This Woman’s Work.” It might not be quite as good as “Running Up That Hill,” but it’s still a fantastic Kate Bush song. I mean, it’s Kate Bush, it sounds like Kate Bush. If you like her, then you’ll like this. Looking back, I feel a bit guilty for only giving Hounds of Love 3 stars. I mean, it has both “Running Up That Hill” and “Hounds of Love”! Let me remedy that by giving this a solid 4 stars. Really enjoyed it.

love kate bush this was great

I’ve never listened to a full album by Kate Bush. I really enjoyed this album, had a classic Women’s Work on it which was the only song I knew prior to listening.

I love when a well-established artists goes for a specific, unusual sound or concept on their album. When it’s done well, it pays off in being a memorable, thoughtful album. Kate Bush has it in spades here. She takes her always-theatrical style and filters it through sometimes middle-eastern / sometimes African soundscapes. What a killer opener and title track! She knew what she had here and how effective this song would be. I really enjoyed the string section specifically on “The Fog” about 1:40 in. “Heads Were Dancing” is a more poppy, beat-driven song with those huge 80’s echoey drums. “Deeper Understanding” is a slightly more mellow, late 80’s slow jam if ever Ive heard one. Lastly, the female vocal chorus on the beginning of “Rockets Tail” is incredible. So dramatic that it’s nearly haunting. Really like this one. What’s most impressive to me about Sensual World is how Bush pairs the at-times grand scope of the instrumentation with some very tender, sensual (for lack of a better word) moments. She eases in and out of these mood changes with such fluidity. 4/5

Lovely. A couple of bangers. Strong, confident and wavy. Really liked it. Don't need t hear it again.

Some songs are boring me and some are unbelievably captivating. I may love it but I may forget about it, only time can tell. I loved reaching out but not enough to save it to my likes. So close though. Deeper understanding is mesmerizing and gorgeous - added to my bckrd playlist!

yay! more kate bush

Not my favorite of hers, but still very good. I think the only track I’d heard before was “This Woman’s Work.” Rocket’s Tail, This Woman’s Work 4

This was my first time listening to a full Kate Bush album. I had only ever heard a few of her singles and never thought it was my jam, putting her as something akin to Peter Gabriel. I was surprised to find I really enjoyed this album, not even from just a technical standpoint. I better understand why so many people, even her peers, are so amazed by her. The range on her voice is absolutely breathtaking. Paired with her meaningful songwriting (I didn't realize she wrote all her own songs) and the eclectic instrumentation, this album is nearly a masterpiece. Sometimes the production is dated but mostly it just seems ahead of its time-- I hear a lot of Bjork and Alanis Morrissette in there. My favorite song was "Heads We're Dancing" which seems to be about a love affair with Hitler. The title track is based on Molly Bloom's soliloquy which ends Ulysses, absolutely wild that it doesn't feel pretentious but just very honest. Bush is really an amazing artist I've overlooked, and I'll be looking more into her music.

Great easy album, beautiful use of various influences

Enjoyed this. Title track was fascinating and beautiful.

Kate Bush isn't Joycean, tho she lifts from Ulysses directly. She's Bjork before the Icelander broke thru, and if she were to mirror a literary figure, she'd be some amalgam of WB Yeats and Sylvia Plath (not to mention the obvious Emily Bronte, but that's a debut resemblance). True to its title, this record transcribes the items of a sensual world, but there's something so beautifully, explosively, taciturn about it that it's less about the inevitability of sexuality than its precarious potentials. These lines don't have me hot and bothered: 'Reaching out for mama'; 'It couldn't be you, it's a picture of Hitler'; 'I turn to my computer like a friend.' Vocally, she's as wild as ever, the music is 80s pop meets Orient(alism), Big Boi is still a fan, and so am I.

Confession time. I love Kate Bush. I could just give this a 5 and walk away. It's a cracking record. But in the grand scheme of things if I had to rate all her albums then this wouldn't be in my top 5. Although I still love it, if I was going to be ultra critical I think it's a tiny bit overproduced; some of the tracks just have too much going on in them. I get tired of fretless base which buries her voice in some places, and the Bulgarians do overdo it a bit. But that IS being overcritical. I could still automatically give it a 5 because Kate can basically do no wrong. But I'm going to be harsh and also give myself a bit of rating wiggle room before the joyous days whan I get Hounds of Love and The Dreaming (shame there aren't any more albums deemed worthy on the list). Please forgive me Kate.

sooooo sexy, fav tracks: the sensual world, love and anger, reaching out

Not my favourite Kate Bush album but it’s a very strong one.

A quality album. Kate Bush has the unique ability to have her voice sound delicate, waif like and then seemingly at will sound deep and powerful, not just from song to song but from line to line or even syllable to syllable. It gives each song a emotional depth and variety that is unique in pop music. And the songs are beautiful. The opening 2 tracks are both outstanding. The quality does dip from their losing some accessibility but never their dramatic core, something Ms. Bush demonstrates on each song . Perhaps not as consistent as Hounds of Love, but always intriguing . 4 stars

All of Kate Bush is pretty great and I do like all these tracks but don't love many. It's very consistent, I'm just more of a fan of her weird stuff on The Dreaming Rating: 4.5

Strong album, similar sound to Hounds of Love but didn't think there were as many highlights and thought the production was a bit weaker, will definitely return to it though

This is my 3rd Kate Bush album and I really enjoyed it. I've never listened to any of her work before this project and I'm so happy to have finally found this fun weird person. Each album has been better than the last.

I don’t usually expect to like an artist’s “later work” when the first few albums are as good as Kate Bush’s are. That and it’s difficult to follow something as incredible as Hounds of Love. Sure, this might not compare, but damn… I really like her.

really good album, love the experimental ethereal sounds kate bush gives, really nice ending as well

Talk about ending an album on a high note. Amazing how consistent her discography is.

Title song is awesome. "Deeper Understanding" was visionary. See https://www.katebushencyclopedia.com/deeper-understanding/#Kate_about_%E2%80%98Deeper_Understanding The rest is generally good but didn't leave a strong impression. 3.6

I need to give this a better listen, I'm not sure if it is a 3 or 4

Really enjoyed this! My first time listening to a Kate Bush album in full! Highlights for me were, ‘The Fog’ and ‘Heads we’re Dancing’

Another fabulous album from Kate Bush. What's not to like??

Great but not her best

Yeah there’s something so great to Kate bush 4/5

5/6/25. Loved it, Kate Bush is definitely a unique artist who isn't afraid to push boundaries and try different sounds. Always make the music more interesting to my ear.

I liked it - I knew of her previously, and she also had a song in stranger things!

I love Kate Bush. This album is good but not great. It’s a bit too normal to be really captivating but a bit too weird to be easy to listen to.

FUTURE COMPUTER MUSIK

samahkoa msiikkia kokonalbumi ei pläjätys effektia uuden biisin alussa,,

Exceptional 80s rock. I had no idea I''ve been listen to Kate bush for years on Peter Gabriel albums. I'm catching up now. 4/5

Really enjoyed this one, it was very atmospheric, and there is a lot of introspection and emotional depth here. I would call this borderline cinematic at times with an edge of mystique which I will never say no to. Heard a lot of familiar sounds which clearly influenced modern artists I enjoy, good stuff! Favorite Tracks: The Fog, Heads We’re Dancing, Love and Anger, Reaching Out.

Album is a banger. Opening track is fine, a solid start and really has the 80's asthetic to it. Some weird bagpipe/violin thing going on. Love and Anger - Great track. Has a real pop sound to it. There's something familiar about the style of this track, but cant put my finger on it. Rockets Tail - power of her voice holds the whole thing together.

Dreamy

This was tight. I liked a lot about this. She has a real way about her, real ethereal and mystic. She has a fun voice that is engaging to listen to. Would listen to this again.

Kate Bush has been someone I've felt like I should be into, but she never really clicked with me for some reason until now. Her voice is absolutely beautiful and it is rightly so the main attraction to the album, the reason why you listen. It helps create a gloomy and mysterious atmosphere to her music that I love. Couple of downsides to this is that it's not one I can replay a lot, and it's a bit samey. Nevertheless, a good album

This is the second Kate Bush album on this list…I’m ok with it but there’s so many other artists I’m hoping will pop up. Done with complaining. This is a good album and I’m a fan. Original voice with original songs…it’s got a good feeling.

4.2 - This womans work is an amazing track and one of my faves. Overall album was really great as usual from kate bush, but felt like it was weaker in parts

First side is pure Kate Bush magic. Second half gets a bit less lush and a little bit more ballady and loses me slightly. Still K8 is gr8, another very solid and unique album. 3.9/5

Maybe all those stranger things nerds were on to something…

A lot of world music elements, well produced as well

That was lovely. My favourite was This Woman's Work. Beautiful

She's on to something here fellas. Would be a five if there were more catchy, singable songs along with all the weird stuff. It gets to weird some times too.

Very nice album - nohing too punchy, but distinctively Kate Bush.

I liked this….both great but I actually think she has the edge on Maxwell

I like Kate Bush.

Lovely. 'This woman's work, 'Love and anger', and the title track are standouts.

The third or fourth best Kate Bush album is still better than anything most artists will ever produce. Shoutout to Gilmours guitar on Rocket's Tail and the bassline on Love and Anger

Очень приятная певица, классный узнаваемый голос, но на этом альбоме не было треков, которые зацепили так, как на первом

Nice to listen to - interesting and intelligent and thought provoking. I'd like to learn more about the meaning of the lyrics.

Really like Kate Bush's music and really must make an effort to listen to more than just the big hits. Need to listen to this again to fully appreciate.

Honestly, I like this better than her other now more popular album on this list.

Kate Bush is very cool. music: appreciated. (⌐■_■)

Damned if Kate Bush hasn’t emerged as one of the most consistent artists on this list. I think this is the third one, and the third 4⭐️! Liked this one’s production more, maybe a bit less glossy 80s (if only slightly). Overall maybe marginally weaker songs, but another great album.

The Sensual World is the sixth album from Kate Bush, a British musician that makes eclectic art pop. Bush's distinct soprano is the defining element of her songs, and she adds intricate orchestrations employing a range of instruments, voices, and synthesizers. The result is a rich, progressive version of pop that is difficult to place in a particular genre. The album's title track was inspired by the story at the end of James Joyce's Ulysses: Molly Bloom steps out of the black and white world into this sensual world. Bush's song was an attempt to voice Molly's expression at the time.

"The Sensual World" is not my favorite thing made by Kate Bush, but it certainly stands out as her most polished piece of work. All of her wonderful work from the 1980s (along with the music of her friend Peter Gabriel) really helped me to reassess my initial ignorant dismissal of the entire decade as a period in which the technical perfections of the music studio made for music without any soul. Kate Bush proves that so wrong with her smart and sultry soundscapes and free singing, and "The Sensual World" is the epitome of artistic stride.

Spooky

Me love la bush

So this is the second Kate Bush album I've had, but I neglected (for some reason) to give the first one (Hounds of Love) a proper review. I remember not being super crazy about it, but probably owe it another review based on how much I enjoyed this one. While I couldn't always (read as: mostly couldn't) understand what she was saying, the well-defined sonic landscape of this album is undeniable. It's a journey through these sounds and melodies that, to me, come across as completely original. Sure she borrows things here and there, but she makes something new from them. And that's the key difference. I like when I'm able to say that an album takes place in its own sonic setting, its own world that has its own rules and a specific pallet it draws from for sounds and themes. This album is definitely one of those. I liked this a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't love all of it, but I think I'd be doing it a disservice to give it anything less than four stars. So four stars it is. It definitely makes me want to revisit "Hounds of Love." Standout Tracks: Love and Anger, Heads We're Dancing, This Woman's Work

I've listened to this 4 times now and there's still something that's not quite clicking. I want to like this more than I do! I love This Woman's Work! I love all the Kate Bush-inspired girlies! Unfortunately I think it's that 80's production holding it back for me. I'll probably keep trying though.

A total original. Can’t fault her work

7.5/10 Highlights: This Woman's Work Deeper Understanding Love and Anger

This was not what I was into at the time of its release, and at that time I barely gave it a second thought. I didn’t really get the hype. Listening now though I do appreciate its uniqueness and the layers, particularly the strings. The style doesn’t really fit in a box which is what adds to the intrigue. Between a 3 and a 4 for me but rounding up due to its impact and influence.

When this cassette was circulating around our group of friends back in ‘89, I found it hard to grasp at such a young punk rock age. And re-listening today I’m still challenged by its complexity. This time in a good way. Her music has always defied any pigeonholing or genre-specific descriptions which is what makes it so special.

It's not the best Bush, in fact it's some way off the quality of Hounds of Love, but it's still very impressive, and carried by her magnificent vocal performance and a nice sense of weirdness. This Woman's Work is a fair way above a lot of the rest, but overall, the third solid four star album in a row.

luscious

she slays

She has such a unique voice. I feel like this is what artistic music should be about - she's authentically herself but doesn't use that as an excuse to be unlistenable. 4.5 stars

Pretty good light soft-pop album.

this is great

Lovely as usual. There are times where it's difficult to latch onto melody, but she makes it work.

Epic cohesive album that would be better if the songs were a little bit shorter.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm yeesh. She simultaniously sounds like she is singing in baby talk, talking through her teeth and like she is being shaken. If Bjork was British and made more 80s sounding music. Borderline experimental at times. The songs with videos were much more structured and almost felt like they were made to be the big while songs while the rest of the album slips into fever dream territory. 7/10

Yes, great stuff.

Beautiful, lyrical, ethereal. The opening and closing tracks are exquisite. Kate Bush is in a class of her own. 4⭐️

Great, love her, although no particular songs stood out to me on this album

The poetry of her lyrics are deeply emotional & sensual. This album took me a few listens and definitely reading the lyrics helped because it put me more in a mindset of poetry to music. I liked her previous album (Hounds of Love) because it was chaotic and edgy. This album feels more polished or something and I don't think that makes it better or worse just different.

Through this site, I'm quickly becoming a Kate Bush fan. This album is no exception :)

Kate Bush never disappoints.

I have always been a big fan of Kate Bush even if I must admit I often do not really understand the lyrics. But if I look them up and listen along the real power of her music comes in. This comprehension is a game changer and sudddenly she is braver and more open and raw and everythiing else. I am super glad she had a sort of resurgence because of her appearance on Stranger Things. Good for her and good for all the rest of us as well!

I mean, it's a Kate Bush album. Not that all of her albums sound the same, but you know going in that it's going to be pretty and sweet and weird and epic. She does her thing and she's fucking great at it 4/5

not her best album, but still close to a masterpiece. all of the songs are beautifully written, although none stand out to me over the rest

Really great. I have always planned to listen to more of Kate Bush, so this album was very welcome and it didn’t let down. Great songs and some really nice instruments featuring throughout the album.

++: The Sensual World, Love and Anger, The Fog, Heads We're Dancing, Rocket's Tail +: Reaching Out, Between a Man and a Woman, This Woman's Work +-: Deeper Understanding, Never Be Mine 8,1/10

Such an absolutely unique artist. Amazing that she managed to stay true to herself throughout, even with the ridiculous way the music industry tried to portray her as some sort of weird young sexpot at first. I wasn't familiar at all with this particular album, I was busy starting a business at the time it came out, but I was glad for the opportunity to listen to it now.

Somehow enormous and intimate at the same time. Kate Bush isn’t the most approachable but wow can she knock it out of the park once you get drawn in. Will return at some point. Best song: Love and Anger

Fantastic record

Kate Bush has a really special, unique sound, and it is very evident here. Favorite track: "Rocket's Tail."

It feels wandering at times, which could perhaps be seen as a detriment. But Kate's singing is absolutely ethereal.

Like it and it has some outstanding tracks like "Heads were Dancing", but overall doesn't wow me like her earlier projects do.

It’s Kate Bush!

Pretty good, but Hounds of Love is just better :P

Soulful

I like Kate Bush! This is up there close to Hounds.

Un altro album di kate bushhhh? Troppi album degli stessi artisti ragazzi

Surprisingly to me this was much more accessible than the other album of hers that we heard. I had no idea that “this woman’s work” was originally by Kate Bush and not Maxwell! Pretty good stuff all around.

Kate killing it once again 4.5

It's a lovely Kate Bush album in a field that has a good number of lovely Kate Bush albums. I prefer Lionheart, Hounds of Love and Aerial, but it's not like there's a bad one in there?

umm 16personalities said im a sensing type so i guess im a little biased

Most I liked. Some I did not. But overall a smooth ride with Kate Bush.

beautiful but idk how much I'll return to it

It's not as great as Hounds of Love because the music feels to similar: Some good keyboard effects, drum machine and piano arpeggios. Still a good album.

layered, emotional, sexy. i dig her vibe generally, and like her other records there’s a lot to absorb here. suffers a little from 80s production methods.

I thought this was good in a meandering dreamy kind of way. I would assume this album isn't as good as her previous and seemingly more popular album, but I haven't listened to that yet!

It's decent. I don't understand why people worship the ground she walks on but she's fine.

I don't really know much about Kate Bush. I had the preconceived notion of her being one of those artists that are weird for the sake of being weird. This album was a pleasant surprise. Melodic and atmospheric with touches of weirdness. I really enjoyed this. The thing I'm left wondering though is why this album? It doesn't have any hits so I doubt it's her biggest selling. It's not a debut and I haven't heard of any other artists mention it as an inspiration.

Eh, first, let me just say I wasn't able to take this album in as well as I wanted to the day my group got it. I'unno, things happened. But I will say, from what I did manage to take in—yep, that continues a lot of the stuff I loved hearing on the first side of HOUNDS OF LOVE. That's an easy 4 stars from me.

Kate Bush always delivers with her musical talents, and this is no exception. 4.5 down to 4.

Folk-adjacent at parts, if not entirely Folky, this one was interesting. It’s not my favourite of the Kate Bush albums I know, and I don’t think I’m likely to come back to it any time soon, but I’m glad I took the time

-this was a good album from Kate Bush -her vocals are stunning -songwriting is so good here -production is so good -the cover gives off an artsy vibe too -it has some absolutely beautiful songs, like The Fog and This Woman's Work. -favorite songs: Love & Anger (<3), The Fog (<3), Reaching Out, Deeper Understanding, Rocket's Tail and This Woman's Work (<3) -least favorite song: Between A Man And A Woman

Deeper Understand and This Woman's Work are great. Loved the imagery. The other songs didn't hit as hard, but I still enjoyed it overall.

Lovely voice

I've heard more songs by this artist in the last 2 years than I ever did in the late 80s. I enjoyed the album and will listen to it again

Very pleasant generally, feels very 80s

Yippee Kate Bush time. The Fog really makes you FEEL like a fog. This song, Heads We’re Dancing, is how it feels to talk to someone on the internet with the lyric. “That’s a picture of Hitler” “He’d go ‘Doodoo doo’”. Ok Rockets Tail was good and probably the best if I didn’t love This Woman’s Work because my mum introduced it to me :) 8/10, Kate Bush always servers.

Kate Bush is a whole ass mood. She knows exactly how to craft her lyrics so that they aren't overwhelming but instead paint evocative scenes. An unparalleled songwriter. Her lyrics and her voice pair perfectly together and only add to how dreamy The Sensual World is. Including an unusual aspect in pop music, like Celtic music, can be abrasive or plain difficult, but she doesn't overly depend on it. Instead, the Celtic music appears only on a few songs and isn't overpowering; they add to the dreamy vibes instead of taking away from them. I find similarities between Bush and Prince because of how encompassing their music is and was. Their music envelopes the listener completely and provides a one-of-a-kind experience. They both dabble in pop music and are rather accomplished songwriters. This probably isn't a comparison most people would make, but it came to me immediately when I began the album!

So excited to finally get some Kate Bush on this project! A lot is owed to her in terms of eclectic/alternative/progressive pop music among women solo artists. She pushed the standard a lot and inspired many women in this corner of the music world. This album dabbles a lot in Celtic sounds; in some songs, the sounds are more overt, and in others, it's a little bit more discreet. But nonetheless, it is present across most of the album. It is a sound that definitely works and layers well with Bush's mysterious, ethereal, new wave-y style. Arriving in 1989, this album came around during Bush's transition into her 30s, and seems to reflect a more focused, more mature oddity than some of her previous works. This album also came toward the end of Bush's major surge of popularity. Whether intentional or not, it seems well timed, as the 90s would bring about a lot more "hard" alternative sounds outside of what Bush was really known for. But still, the point stands, Bush's fearlessness in letting her musical freak flag fly informed much of what would come. She still impacts artists today.

Kate Bush is one of the most amazing female singer-songwriters ever. Tracks like The Sensual World and This Woman's Work are standouts and absolute bangers. 4 stars because this is however not close to Hounds of Love or her debut. One month! (31)

Definitely some of her best work.

Another really good album from an artist I’ve learned a lot more about the past couple of years. Probably five stars with more listens. I love the song Love and Anger, especially the subtle tempo change in the middle of the song.

Diverse selection of instruments and tone for each song. Makes listening to it in album form very enjoyable.

It all is easy to vibe to. She's got a soulful voice. 4.5

Kate Bush has always had an interesting and unique approach to music, and I think this album shows that. Generally, I found it an enjoyable listen, though Kate Bush, as always, can go a bit over the top in ways that can be a tad annoying at times.

ngl i listened to the dreaming instead of this one bc i want to get into her discography more but people say this one's less weird and i want weird and experimental ... and i got exactly what i asked for and i love everything about it!! kate bush the woman you are!!

Good stuff

Unique, soft gentle voice, excellent accompaniment with the piano, and a timeless sound. This is one of her better albums though I prefer Hounds of Love a bit more. 3.8

Kate Bush is an interesting artist. Her vocal delivery especially. It's almost Björk-like in it's otherworldly style, but she can go high ala Lauper and other 80s pop divas. She's kind of in her own world in that regard. I'll admit that I haven't explored enough of her discography outside of the singles, though, so this was a fairly new listening experience. I thought the middle to back half of the album shined the most. That's where the power chords started to hit a bit more and the backing vocals became prominent. Everything culminates with the beautiful "This Woman's Work" as the emotional closer. Things took a bit to get going, but I enjoyed the overall body of work nonetheless. A high 3 for me, so let's round up.

Half the songs on here had me in tears. It really is a study of emotions - not my favourite Kate Bush album but some corkers on here. I have some weird memory which I don’t if it’s true but it’s of Pans People or a later iteration dancing to A Woman’s Work and botching it big-time. It was a very misunderstood song (and album methinks). It’s come into its own now though

Hot on the heels of my faulty memory (see my Skunk Anansie review), this one is indelibly printed on my brain. By the time this was released I was a full-on Kate Bush devotee, owned all her albums, was steeped in her catalog and thought The Dreaming and Hounds of Love were both incandescent albums. So her outdoing those releases seemed pretty impossible. I bought the CD, raced home — by this point I had discovered cannabis, so — I smoked up, put on my headphones and listened to the album twice through, staring at the liner notes and album cover and just immersing myself. And, while I love the album, there are many moments of genius, it ultimately does pale slightly in comparison to the aforementioned incredible albums. So, you get it, I'm a massive fan, but not sure this is a must-listen, as good as it is. But that doesn't mean I wasn't thrilled to revisit this. I love the dreamy landscapes, Bush tempers her vocals on this outing — I guess you'd call it maturity — there are evocative images of sexuality, "Deeper Understanding" spoke of how computers might integrate with human relationships way ahead of its time, and "This Woman's Work" is just a beautiful song.

Such a lush blend of lyrics, vocals, and instruments ---uilleann pipes, bouzouki, fiddles. Every song conjured an image of her longingly looking across the heath.

Liked more than i thought i would

Tämä on jo näitä vähemmän poppeja levyjä. Aivan mainiota musiikkia kaiken kaikkiaan. 4/5

Upea! Tähän pitää ehdottomasti vielä palata, tältä erää 4/5.

Oon alkanu lämmetä Kate Bushille, tekee hienoa pop-musaa ja komea äänihän tällä on. 4/5

So good. That one's tween kids are getting into Kate Bush crica 2024 speaks to the quality. "Love and Anger" and "Woman's Work" are outstanding and much in between is very strong, too. KB remains an under-appreciated treasure.

Didn't love the beginning but it continues only to get better

I was pleasantly surprised.

Enigmatic genius makes album full of weird and wonderful stuff

Strange, lovely, different.

Mmmmmmh yes

Well it's sensual so Kate Bush is honest, reliable. And also a great artist with a big A.

Just such a unique voice. You can really feel the passion.

Lush arrangements combining rich orchestral string & piano sounds with pure 80s whoompy bass, industrial synth, gnarly guitar, and big echoey gated drums tones. She's in Depeche Mode mode here, taking a bit of the edge off her earlier more challenging work for a glossier sound that still retains the darkness and operatic flair. A few songs have a propulsive driving beat pushing verse to chorus to big a climax, building layers and layers of texture and pulsating rhythmic intensity. Others linger in a more structureless slow swelling ambient zone - a bit aimless, but they're effective platforms for her distinctive singing. Alternatingly frail and booming, smokey and piercing, whispered and wailed, the album is all about the vocal performance. It doesn't depend on deliving a central melody, but floating around a mood, rising and falling in and out of the instruments, adorning the songs with short bursts of intensity and signaling shifts in the feeling of the songs. The incredible This Woman's Work is the obvious stand out: the initial sigh is disarming, stripping back the arrangement to piano and some sparkly synth swells lets puts the full spotlight on the forcefully tender vocal and the most memorable combination lyrics/melody on the album. Favorites: Sensual World, Love and Anger, Heads We're Dancing, Deeper Understanding, This Woman's Work

I would place this exactly midpoint on the Bush discography: below Hounds of Love, Aerial, Never for Ever and The Dreaming. Equal with Red Shoes, and above Kick Inside, Lionheart and 50 Words for Snow. One of those disconcerting albums when side 2 is much better than side 1, and nothing else to say about what has to be a four. Hope the others are on the list. Not that I need to listen to them.

better than “Hounds of Love” dare I say…

It warrants 5 consideration because it contains the song made famous by usage in a lesser known John Hughes movie. Apparently Kate Bush wrote the song specifically for the montage of that movie, which only makes me love her even more. Follow up: out of the small number of Americans who were into Kate Bush in the 1980's, how many guesses would you need before you landed on John Fucking Hughes? I mean, Molly Ringwald makes sense. But John Hughes? At this point in her career, it was obvious Kate Bush was swinging for the fences on every song, giving an epic sweep that builds over each track. Even the one she wrote to underscore scenes of Kevin Bacon thinking about his wife's work. "A Woman's Work" has become one of her signature songs, right up there with Running Up That Hill and Wuthering Heights. If we can believe the Spotify data, this is Kate Bush's most popular album, maybe even her legacy work.

Never really got into Kate Bush. I sort of get it, but I suspect that this is the sort of album that I'd need to listen to a bunch more to really appreciate what's going on. I love the soundscape sort of approach, but I've never been entirely convinced that I particularly enjoy Bush's voice over more than a couple of tunes in a go. This Woman's Work is excellent and there's a lot that I think I should like on this, but I imagine that I'd need a week to be sure that it's some sort of genius. Tentative 4 stars because it's probably brilliant and I don't really have time to decide if it is or not.

I love Kate Bush’s music and creativity. This, though an excellent album, is not near the top of the list if I was ranking her albums. It’s good, and I like it….but I like most of the others better. Still, it’s better than many other artists’ best efforts.

I can see why people would love this but not really my thing

Very good.

awesome

Deeper Understanding is surprisingly applicable today given when this was released. Great vocals and imagery throughout.

I really really need to start listening to Kate Bush more, she's truly phenomenal. 4.5/5

Where do I even start? From the time I first watched "She's Having a Baby" and heard This Woman's Work, I was captivated by her voice and her music. SO SO thankful this came in after Taylor Swift, because it was a much needed refresher.

Before: I already know I will like this. After: Yeah I loved that. Dreamy, dramatic. Needs more listens to see what sticks.

Some incredible songs here and some lyrics felt way ahead of it's time. Gave me some comforting wintery vibes on a lot of tracks.

The title track of this record pops up on my random play quite a bit, and I really like it. The rest of the album is really good too now listening to it for the first time. This one is right up there with Hounds of Love.

More Kate Bush that rules 4/5

This is the one album from Kate’s “classic” era that I don’t own and I really should fix that. It’s largely mid-tempo and while that’s usually not my thing, she’s too talented for me to not give her a pass. Beautiful stuff. B+

I'm gonna be honest. I genuinely did not know that Kate Bush had a second album on here. I obviously knew that Hounds of Love would be on here, but I didn't expect to listen to another album of hers. I'm not upset or anything, I'm just a bit surprised. And why would I be upset? I really liked Hounds of Love, and The Sensual World is pretty good too. A lot of what I liked about Hounds of Love does carry over to this album as well. Kate Bush's singing is still very unique and pleasant to listen to. The sound is still very majestic, with this album also featuring some neat contributions from people like David Gilmour from Pink Floyd (speaking of which, why haven't I gotten a Pink Floyd album yet?). I think the best thing about this album is the storytelling. Songs like Deeper Understanding and This Woman's Work have such a way with words that makes Kate Bush's music really stand out. Overall, while I do consider Hounds of Love to be the better album, The Sensual World is still a really good album. Light 4/5.

Great sound with varied instrumentation and lush soundscapes

Similar vein to Peter Gabriel - So I dig the vibe.

Really really pretty stuff. Huge fan of the "worldly instrumentals." Nice voice to pair with it. 4.2

kyle said “movements of the same song” and he’s right tho

Svo ljúf og notaleg. Góð byrjun á árinu.

Quite 'of its time' in terms of sound, but still utterly lush. Particularly like the Bulgarian choir.

Beautiful, subtle album. Peter Gabriel meets Bjorn. Pat Benatar uptown cousin. Recommend

Just like all Kate Bush albums, this has it's weaknesses, but they are minor ones and don't lessen the overall impact of the album, which as - as always with Kate Bush - bloody brilliant!

A good listen. Didn't know much about it going in.

Great album. So many layers that make it worth multiple listens. Best Songs: Reaching Out, Rocket's Tail, This Woman's Work Listen Again:Yes

Best listened loud. Some really good stuff on here, this woman's work is quality especially.

LOVE AND ANGER IS ONE OF THE GREATEST IN HER CAREER OH MY GOSH whole album was fire no notes probably listened to more than her first 4 albums for me

I am feeling Love And Anger. Heads We're Dancing is another bop. Kate Bush's voice is above all transcendent. Rockets Tail slaps. A second, more intentioned listening of this record is down right necessary

Really good pop/experimental stuff, loved her voice

An exceptional artist who knows how to create an atmosphere. Sometimes she gets lost in the atmosphere and neglects the song, but overall very enjoyable listening.

This album has a few absolute bops. I love her unique vocalizing. A few too many of the songs are strange, but not bad

Fantastic

I really enjoyed listening to this Album. Not her best, but still interesting. Not keen on first track, love last track. I have listened to it a few times 😊

A good album that is made more memorable by its opening song and its closing song. It sags a little in the middle, but not too much.

This Woman's work ist fantastisch. Rest ist gut, ich muss es häufiger hören.

Gotta hand it to Kate Bush - this does _not_ sound like generic late 80s early 90s anything! She really forged her own path! I think I only knew "This Woman's Work" before going in, and that from an episode of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"! There's a really interesting mix of sounds here, and not all of it works, but I'm grateful for the experimentation - I particularly like the Bulgarian Women's Choir stuff! Fave track - "Rocket's Tail", as that's maximum Bulgarian vocal splendor with added Bush! 😻

Everything she does with her voice is wonderful and so inspiring, but the production can feel one-note and a little cheesy. Last two songs are incredible though

Quiet and soothing with some thought provoking lyrics. Might be worth a second listen.

Whilst probably not Kate Bush's best album in my opinion, even on a slow day her work is many times more creative and listenable than 90% of all other music. A trademark voice paired with a big drums and assorted other percussion and haunting string melodies, this is unmistakeably Kate Bush, albeit a little less approachable than some other work. That said, it does contain This Woman's Work one of my all time favourite songs which I never tire of listening to. The Fog is another standout track too.

Enjoyed

Another great album from Kate Bush, not one that I've heard before.

My 3rd Kate Bush album in the past 2 weeks. A bit weird I'm getting all this over 2 years in, but I'm complaining. I'm now very familiar with Kate Bush and how to appreciate her music. It's an odd choice to pick out of her catalog. It's among her most accessible and focused at the sacrifice of experimentation. There's still quite a bit of it, but that's not "strange" by any means. The songs have a British folk tint to it, with songs like "The Fog" evoking Lord of the Rings vibes with the strings and mountainous atmosphere. The songs here fit in nicely with late 80s and early 90s contemporaries like Sinéad O'Connor and Sade with the double-tracked ethereal vocals, relaxed atmosphere, reserved mood, lush wall of sound, and employment of traditional 80s synths. This makes this record less stand out, but there are certainly standouts, particularly in the front and back. The middle, however, is often forgettable or boring. They're good arrangements, but even the "experimental" ones like "Heads We're Dancing" sound like they're trying to live up to the glory of her earlier catalog. They lack quite a bit, but still have plenty to offer.

Not my usual bag, but I quote liked this.

Kate Bush can really do no wrong in my eyes. This is a great album. Her unique melodies and unconventional harmonies, the diversity between the soft beauty of tracks like The Fog and the bombastic peaks of songs like Rocket’s Tail (tell me that didn’t get you pumped when it all came crashing down), down to the absolute proto-dreampop perfection of the closing track This Woman’s Work. She even works in classical European instrumentation on a few of the songs, which blends in seamlessly. This is a GREAT album, definitely hits a little bit of a valley towards the middle after a strong opening, but I feel it picks back up and absolutely crushed it.

You either love Bush of you don’t, and today I loved her

I love Kate Bush, but this isn't her at her most interesting best. However, This Woman's Work is a great closer, reminds me of FKA Twigs, who I also love! Just seemed to lack a bit of the experimentalism of some of her other albums.

This is such a grand and cinematic album. I enjoyed it nearly all the way through. Some songs just dragged a lil, but I’ll certainly come back to this one.

reading mixed reviews on this one. a lot of comparisons to Björk (with a negative connotation). I think this albums ethereal sound and wandering vocals make for a fun & unique listening experience. I am hearing major bjorkisms on track 4 though...

I’ve never clicked with this as much as most other Bush albums but it’s still a terrific piece of work. The violin/fiddle line of the opener is otherworldly and infectious, and the closing two tracks are so different but both incredible. A truly great record that I wish I got a bit more out of than I do

Another album that featured strongly in my teen years by way of my sister's LP collection. For whatever reason Bush's wierdness strikes the right chord with me, and she certainly has the goods to back it up, both vocally and in musical acumen.

Pati malo od tipične produkcije kasnih osamdesetih ali je dobar album

I loved this album. It could have been my mood but I’m giving it 4*

This was a real three and a halfer of an album. I'll have to give it a four based on the other threes I've given...

This is very atmospheric, but I don't think it's her best album. It's still great, just not her very best.

It took me a second listen but I was really drawn into this album by the unique soundscape that Kate Bush can create.

yoo too sensual🤭🤭

I’ll keep this brief because it’s late and I have other stuff to listen to; this album is pretty good. The bombastic and grand feeling art pop of this entire record is just phenomenal. Kate bush’s very soft vocals layered on with the bombastic production really does make this album soar. Best song is reaching out; the most bombastic and heartfelt track on this record in my opinion. I had to do a pause after listening to this song, absolutely amazing. I’d say really good, maybe an 8/10 or 9/10, bordering that general area.

Great album.

One very slightly prefers The Hounds of Love, but this is good, too, and one admits to liking it more now than upon its original release. "Love and Anger" is excellent, a classic slice of vintage arty '80s in vibe, instrumentation and production technique, with the kids chorus adding both depth and lightness. One wishes one'd seen her live. One wants to joke that she's the pop music equivalent of Carol Kane, or the female version of Peter Gabriel, or a more accessible Laurie Anderson, which reflects that she's sort of hard to pin down and that she remains still underrated (and very likely undercompensated). "What would we do without you?" indeed.

Darkly atmospheric. Rocket's Tail my favorite. Sneaky 80s guitar leads throughout. This Women's Work a banger of an outro

Always down for some Kate Bush. Not very familiar with this album, but it quite good.

Bom 4/5

Original varied There are almost no female voices in this list of 1001. And there is so much shitty garage experimentation, and not enough masterwork. Those are my two criticisms of the list..... Back to this album.. side b. that's where the magic of this album is for me. Either way, Kate, it's been a while... I had you on cassette. Nice to hear your mad genius and kaleidoscopic arabesque on a hifi instead a plastic 80s Stereo. there is something wonderful and very Gemeinde about it.... Although shrill at times and hard to take on LARGE doses, here we have something completely different richly executed. Art. I can't go without mentioning the very suggestive flower on the cover... This has nothing to do with the photo shoots she did for the album.... in case the title didn't give it away, clearly marketed as boudoir music... But when you enter, there is a lot more to handle. The prescience of \"deeper understanding\" and the impact of computers and consumerism and loneliness in our world. Not easy to listen to. But brilliant and demanding. With flowers

I was always a fan but I have no memory of this record. Really enjoyed it - nothing like hearing a lass celebrating her Irish roots. And what help she had. From the moment you hear Davy Spillane’s (Afro Celt Sound System) uilleann pipes & Donal Luny’s (the great Planxty) bouzouki on the opening track, the sound of this album is a joy. The Fog is a knockout - the legendary Alan Stivell on celtic harp & Nigel Kennedy (legend in his own lunchtime ) on violin, and Kate’s old man getting a spoken piece. Reaching Out features a terrific string quartet arrangement by Michael Nyman, but really, it’s Kate’s vocals & backing vocals that soar here. As they do throughout. It was great to hear Trio Bulgarka on Side 2. For some reason I thought they were a bit low-rent compared to the music on the classic 4AD albums of the 80’s that went by the name Le Mystere des Voix Bulgares. I couldn’t be more wrong. They are outstanding on Rocket’s Tail, as is David Gilmour’s brief but blistering guitar solo there. A great listen.

Great voice and great music

Classic Kate. Ethereal and somewhat complex backing under her very special voice.

Whimsical. Highlight: This Woman's Work 4,5/5

One of my favorite albums as a teen.

Kate Bush is one of my favorite pop artists from the 80s. She takes the form and subverts it by incorporating experimental sounds and textures and weaving sonically interesting through-lines along with her lyrics which are focused on this album, on women's sexuality. Though this album is not as well developed and constructed as Hounds of Love or The Dreaming, it was still a fantastic listen.

Ground breaking, powerful and brilliantly eye opening... Olé

My first thought: "I feel like I've entered sexy vaguely-Celtic Narnia." I loved this album. Her vocals are so weird in the best way. I don't even like 80s synth music but this does it for me. Lyrically complicated, like the first track is her version of a scene from Ulysses by James Joyce, but musically pleasant enough that I think it's enjoyable without any context, viewing her vocals as one more instrument. My one big complaint is that I don't enjoy the sound of the drum-machine-tone drums. Favorite track: Rocket's Tail Least favorite: Heads We're Dancing

I’d have put Hounds of Love on the list instead, but this was good. I need to listen to it more closely some day.

fantastic

Pretty good.

Man, I gotta listen to more Kate Bush. Maybe it's because this album came later than the other albums of hers that I've heard, but this sounds so sonically full. Some of the instrumentation sound a little "80's", but it really works. This album sounds so good.

listened to again on second listen i liked it a lot more

This isn't my favorite Kate Bush album, but it is excellent. It is bookmarked by two standout songs (The Sensual World and This Woman's Work, but there are other hidden gems in between, including The Fog and Rocket's Tail to name a few. The album as a whole grew on me as I listened to it a few times. I really, really love Kate Bush, but I'm torn between 4 and 5 on this one. I don't think this particular album is on the same level as my other 5s, although it's very good. So 4/5 it is.

even though i'm typically more of a fan of kate bush's zanier work, the slower songs really did it for me. the writing is so good and the production, while obviously 80s at times, still holds up today. the standout tracks for me are "the fog", "heads we're dancing", and "rocket's tail". it's strange that this is the first kate bush album i listen to, but this only makes me more excited to listen to hounds of love in full.
