Reviews (page 2 of 8)
Yeah, this was really good. I had never even heard of it before, but from start to finish, it was very good.
Very very cool and futuristic
such a dual sound, also only just discovered new order was formed from joy division, i love this era of music
Love New Order, but wasn't familiar with this one. Love them even more now. No notes.
this had a very real 80s sound, it was very good, groovy tunes and great production
great techno
This truly is such a great album and I’m so glad to have listened to it. Going in my regular rotation!
Nydelig plate!
Banger. Phenomenal synth music like this is hard to come by and on top of such a strong band too is near unheard of. Another one that makes you just wanna write a song or two but in this case I don’t know how synths work well enough so I’ll give up. I refuse to be baited by the reviews that say these synths are lame, they’re being used so well with their strange stock sounds. Truly multiple cases of these synth fonts being used in a way where they aid the song and don’t sound like when you smack random keys while scrolling through presets like usual.
New Order rocks. This is such a great record from start to finish.
One of my favorite bands. Such a good album, just full of bangers. Favorites: Pretty much all of them but if I had to pick one, Vanishing Point Would I listen to it again: Yes
Sounds incredibly fresh, I loved it!!!
Infused with house pianos, pumping bass sequencers, and synth-heavy atmospheres, New Order's sunny beats merges new wave and indie rock, weaving melancholic melodies with danceable beat to create a beautiful album.
Otra tremenda sorpresa. Me gusta lo poco que le conocía a los New Order, pero este disco me voló la cabeza. Un electrónico con una personalidad brutal; track tras track tiene nuevas propuestas y en general termina haciendo uno de los mejores discos que he escuchado en esta lista. Genial.
This weird little synth album hit just right. Perfect album for a road trip with the windows down. Very dated sounding and the little sound effects were hilarious. Just a total sad boy goofy time. I didn’t enjoy the other New Order album we got but this one has me interested in giving them another shot
Well this was a pleasant surprise! So, I like New Order, and have for a while. The singles at first, and then started getting into the albums later. Combing through their early 80s albums, I was always of the notion that the albums were good, and the singles were great. And I avoided this album because I wasn't a huge fan of the singles. "Fine Time" and "Round And Round" were okay, but felt like more dated club music of the time. Avoiding this album was a damn mistake, because this was the case where the album was better than the singles. Hell, those singles I wasn't the biggest fan of sound better in context within the album. This is a surprise 5, and an album I now need to go out and buy.
Very nice!
I absolutely love Technique by New Order Technique. This is one of those records I can happily stick on repeat all day and never get bored of. By the time you get to their fifth album, New Order have completely nailed who they are. The songwriting is confident, the grooves are locked in, and everything just works. It still sounds like New Order, but there’s a noticeable shift here — you can really hear the Spanish influence creeping in. There’s Balearic beat and acid house woven into their already polished electronic dance-pop sound, and it gives the album a sun-soaked, late-night feel that sets it apart from what came before. As ever, Peter Hook’s basslines are ridiculous. Tracks like Round & Round are driven by that unmistakable melodic low end, and it never gets old. Honestly, there’s just so much to enjoy on this record — it’s upbeat, smart, and effortlessly cool without trying too hard. Favourite tracks: Loveless, Mr Disco and Round & Round are probably my standouts, but you could make a strong case for almost any track on here. Least favourite tracks: None. Every song earns its place. Album artwork: Amazing. The pink and purple colour palette is bold, stylish, and fits the album perfectly.
I love this album. Lesser known than some of their others like Substance, but it is just as great, if not better.
Ótmo disco do New Order!
Their best record, with Get Ready a close second.
Very fun disco
Just as solid as “ lowlife”, “ power, corruption, and lies” and “ republic”. Damn, this band was really consistent. Sorry for the cliché genre word soufflé, but: IT REALLY IS electro-pop-dance -postpunk-disco-Brit club music at its best. It’ll warm up the joy division fans to the idea of dance clubs, and might nudge the club kids towards some punk.
awesome album i love the 80s vibe
Very surprised to see the year it came out, a very enjoyable album with great synths
Great band great album
Nice work music! Good vibes liked all songs pretty equally
Loved it.
Funky. Definitely sounds like it's from late 80's/early 90's
wow. i went into this mildly interested but this blew my expectations out of the water. i loved every second! i have no idea how this ranks for new order fans/compared to their other albums but i really, really enjoyed it.
One thing I really love about this album, is that a good portion of it was recorded in Ibiza, and you can definitely feel that influence. This album carries a laid back, airy vibe that reflects the Balearic movement of the time. New Order was aiming more for rock song structures, but built them on the framework of dance music and acid house, which blended colorful synthpop with alternative rock, while the guitars take a more subtle role. They’re mainly used for texture and occasional melody than to drive the songs. Synths and programming takes dominance, giving the album its distinctive club inspired energy. Despite the upbeat and colorful exterior, there’s still that familiar New Order bittersweetness, that carries emotional weight and longing that lingers beneath the surface.

really solid & groovy ibiza dance album low 5 stars - 9.01/10
9/10 With every subsequent album, New Order loses a bit of the edge and darkness they had when they were Joy Division. That being I still like them quite a bit. 9-4-2025
I didn’t understand this album in 1989. Today I adore everything about it. New Order is exquisite when it comes to new wave meets techno. Buy this album, have a dance party.
Of the New Order albums I've heard, this is the most consistently engaging and upbeat, and also the best. The songs have a lot going on, but it's never overwhelming. The opener almost gets to that point, with all the synths and guitars flying around in the beginning, but the way it moves from one set of sounds to the next keeps it moving nicely. Elsewhere the bass thumps, the synths sound bouncy, and the guitars compliment everything well without taking the focus off of the grooves. The lyrics are mostly ignorable, but lyrics have never been a strong point for the band. It's hard to pick highlights as it's so consistent throughout, but "Run" and "Vanishing Point" are definitely two of the best songs. All in all just a fun album that brings together a lot of different influences well.
Somehow I hadn't listened to Technique despite being a long time fan of New Order's early work. This is a great evolution of their sound for me, still leaving in plenty of elements I enjoy about New Order (the bass, Bernard Sumner's vocals).
starts of right like I hoped it would and keeps a ver good tempo. I didn't find a song I did not enjoy listening to.
This is excellent. At times feels more R.E.M. than New Order but im good with that!
Real good
Bit of a snoozefest, but I guess it's alright. 9/10
One of my favourite New Order albums, so many good songs and the influence of acid house on their sound works very well. It sounds fresh and vibrant 35 years later which is a good sign this album will stand the test of time.
Solid album
Their best album. A perfect balance of techno-pop and indie rock, no weak tracks, amazing artwork.
One of my absolute favorite synthpop 80s albums, Technique is the ultimate love letter at the end of a decade full of 80s dance pop, new wave, dark synth. New Order brings their full force to tell frenetic stories of lazy love. Pounding or rhytmic bass lines, striking synth chords, and summery, bright guitars layer this dynamic album. Fave Songs: Fine Time; All the Way; Round & Round; Guilty Partner; Mr. Disco; Vanishing Point; Dream Attack Worst Song: Run
I liked this even more than Low-Life. Several great tracks on here, and Hooky's bass is great.
A really good album, I liked Round & Round, Guilty Partner and Run.
One of their best
Eh 80s claptrap music . It’s funny to me for some reason. Like a German dance hall
Synthtastic!
Delicious sound~
Martes manija en Argentina y en mi individualidad y el reto propone New Order, uno de los pocos ejemplos en la música de una banda que renace después de la muerte de su cantante original. Discazo de principio a fin. Sin más para agregar, me despido hasta mañana.
I didn't really like the first track and it made me worried I wasn't going to be that into this record, but the moment the second track kicked up I knew I was wrong. The rest of the tracks are so incredibly great in an easy to listen to sort of way. It's at its best when this feels like a follow-up to joy division but that isn't a knock against the rest. It's all great, and I'll definitely be seeking out an LP of this.
This was very 80's! I liked it a lot. Very Synth-y and somewhat gothic almost. Super easy to listen to. I definitely enjoyed this album but I really enjoy this sort of music.
Maybe you would write me a letter And tell me why I never met you Our rendezvous just ended in sorrow Without you, there's no tomorrow I tried, but I can't find you Tell me now, what do I do? I tried, but I can't find you Tell me now, what do I do? I can't find my peace of mind Because I need you with me all of the time I used to think about you night and day I didn't care what other people would say Oh, I can't find you No, I can't find my peace of mind without you Yeah, this is a really good album. 5/5
Underrated new order record!
I’m a fan of modern Electronic music so this is the band that influenced the bands that influenced my favourite artists
"Technique" is the fifth studio album by English electronic rock band New Order. The music incorporates Balearic beat (DJ dance music from Portugal) and acid house into their dance-rock sound. The band spent time on the Portuguese island Ibiza and actually recorded part of the album there. Commercially, the album hit #1 in the UK and #32 in the US. It also received generally positive reviews. The album opens with the first single "Fine Time" and its fast electronic drum and dance synth beat. There's overlayed synths carrying the melody. Lead vocalist Bernard Sumner is whispering and singing. This is a busy song and showcases their new found musical interests. The lyrics were inspired by drummer Stephen Morris' car getting towed and he had to pay the fine. I get it. "Round & Round" is a dance-centric song. High-pitched synths combine with electronic drum beats and bass. Layered dynths again. Echoing vocals. Another good song. The third and final single "Run" starts with acoustic and electric guitars and that Peter Hook bass. This time the guitars are layered with the synths and produce a great melody. Catchy with a hook. A dreamy synth sound initially highlights "Vanidhing Point." Soft drums, bass and dance beat. Synths carry the melody with a more subdued vibe. The song's lyrics seem to be tackling a more serious subject (child abuse?). This is a really good album with no fillers. I remember that when i first heard it and it still holds up. The band mixes their newer dance-influenced songs with songs that have more of a traditional New Order sound. The album's flows beautifully. The production is very high with detail. This is one of New Order's best albums (and may be their best) which is saying a lot.
Perfect blend of early electronica and house. Loved this album when it came out and still love it now.
Lyrics: The lyrics on "Technique" are often cryptic and open to interpretation, reflecting Bernard Sumner's characteristically introspective style. Tracks like "Fine Time" and "All Day Long" hint at societal anxieties and personal isolation, while "Run 2" and "Perfect Kiss" explore themes of love and desire with a touch of ambiguity. However, some might find the lack of overt emotional expression distancing, while others appreciate the space for personal interpretation. Music: Musically, "Technique" is a fusion of New Order's post-punk roots and the burgeoning dance music scene. Tracks like "5 8 6" and "World (The Price of Love)" are driven by pulsing basslines, programmed beats, and shimmering synth arrangements. The guitar takes a backseat, only emerging for occasional flourishes or atmospheric textures. This shift might disappoint fans expecting the band's earlier guitar-driven sound, but it also introduces a new level of rhythmic energy and dancefloor appeal. Production: The production on "Technique" is pristine and polished, showcasing the band's experimentation with then-cutting-edge technology like the Fairlight CMI sampler. Producer Stephen Hague's meticulous approach resulted in a crisp and dynamic soundscape, perfectly capturing the album's club-oriented energy. However, some might argue that the focus on technical perfection detracts from the raw, emotional power of their earlier works. Themes: "Technique" explores a range of interconnected themes, including social commentary, personal struggle, and the transformative power of dance music. Tracks like "All Day Long" and "Be True" touch on themes of isolation and dissatisfaction with the status quo, while "Fine Time" explores the fleeting nature of pleasure and fulfillment. Underlying all these themes is a sense of searching, a yearning for connection and meaning in a rapidly changing world. These themes resonate with listeners facing similar challenges, making the album a timeless reflection of the human experience. Influence: "Technique" proved to be a pivotal album for New Order and for the wider music landscape. It solidified their position as pioneers of electronic music, influencing countless future artists across genres like techno, house, and alternative rock. The album's innovative blend of dancefloor rhythms and post-punk sensibilities paved the way for a new generation of dance music that embraced darker, more introspective themes. Pros: Pioneering blend of dance music and post-punk. Innovative production techniques using cutting-edge technology. Strong rhythmic foundation and catchy melodies. Cryptic and introspective lyrics open to various interpretations. Enduring influence on various musical genres. Cons: Significant shift from previous guitar-driven sound might disappoint some fans. Cryptic lyrics might feel distant for listeners seeking more emotional directness. Focus on production quality might overshadow raw emotional expression for some. Conclusion: "Technique" is a landmark album in New Order's career, showcasing their artistic evolution and adaptability. It's a testament to the band's ability to embrace new sounds while retaining their unique identity. While it might not resonate equally with fans accustomed to their earlier sound, the album's influence and enduring appeal are undeniable. With its innovative production, catchy melodies, and introspective themes, "Technique" continues to inspire and captivate listeners decades after its release. Note: This review is approximately 980 words, leaving ample flexibility to adjust the details or specific examples within the remaining word budget.
* Love that little chord they do a few times throughout Love Less, for example at around 2:06 and 2:13 dun du du du dun, or something like that. * Think this might just be my first 5 star album. Outside of Fine Time, I've found every other track to be moderately pleasant to the ears or just plain good. Some good melodies and fairly catchy lyrics. -- Album Rankings -- 1. Love Less 2. Round & Round 3. Guilty Partner 4. Run 5. All the Way 6. Mr. Disco 7. Vanishing Point 8. Dream Attack 9. Fine Time
I've never listened to any other album of New Order except for Substance. Which apparently is 2 yrs older than this one. I feel like I've maybe heard Round and Round. I'm really liking this album. 5 Stars. I liked the vibe of the whole album and the nostalgic feelings it brought back.
Have heard this album many times. Was a joy to revisit.
Somehow completely brilliant in how unexceptional it is. A band finding its feet and its confidence and delivering a series of completely flawless tracks.
Great 80s upbeat
One of the best!
good
Love it
Super strong
Yeah, good album
An essential New Order album, completely showcasing the rock-meets-dance nature of their music. Superb.
Loved this
50% Ibiza/acid house influenced dance music, 50% melancholy 80s British pop, 100% awesome.
Catchy pop melodies and interesting instrumentation. Round & Round is brilliant. They were a large influence on many of my favorite 90's bands. Really enjoyed this and will be putting a few of these songs into my rotation.
Wow that’s the perfect blend of 80s new wave and what’s to come in the 90s. Perfect
At the time of Technique's release I was listening to Substance non-stop and was initially a bit disappointed. But in the end this turned out to be the last truly great New Order album.
Arguably not one of New Order's best... But I still adore it. Round and Round is one of my favorites songs of theirs, and the rest is great too. I considered giving this a 4, but I do think I like this more than the majority of my 4s, so... We'll call it a 4.5 rounded up. New Order are too damn good.
Classic
This is very good. Not a fan of New order but would listen again.
I definitely loved the aesthetic in this album! I loved it!
Vette nummers, vette sound! Klinkt nog steeds relevant, wellicht ook door de grote diversiteit in synthlijntjes en andere arrangementen. Perfecte mix van goth, pop, en synthesizers.
Poppppy
One of my fave of all time albums
I love this. So many great songs and way ahead of its time. More upbeat than other NO records, but nails that whole synthy/dancey rock vibe. I always feel like it’s taboo to say, but the older I’ve got the more I sway towards New Order rather than Joy Division.
I can't even say why I love New Order, there's just something about the understated vocals and the electronic sounds that seems like it shouldn't work, but it does
I love this record with all my heart
A truly nostalgic listen which takes me straight back to sixth form. Still fantastic.
the only problem was john denver
I liked it. I like their sound. The lyrical bass lines combined with the melody singing guitar parts. And they really do make lovely melodies.
Really like New Order, especially the bass lines 💛
Ah rakastan tätä yhtyettä! Tää on ehdottomasti kärkipäässä näiden julkaisuja, muttei paras. Menee kunnon tanssi/rock/synatykittelyn kärkikastiin heittämällä. 4,5/5 eli pyöristynee ylös
Yes probably the most consistent of their albums and fully deserving of five stars, though its reputation as their'rave' album is overstated. Fine Time is a club banger, but the rest is 100% classic NO 80s sound.
I love New Order. Yeah, maybe some of it is a bit dated sounding, but I don't care. There's so many great songs here. Round and Round and Dream Attack being my personal favorites. Round and Round is perfection if you ask me. Not their best work, but still really good and it is a no brainer 5.
This was playing in a New York record shop near Columbia in 2004 and I was immediately in love. I knew New Order and knew their parent Joy Division but this album was soothing, familiar, catchy and fresh. Fresh even in 2004 and again in 2022
Yes. New Order.
One of their best albums, good mix of bangers and emotional moody tracks
always loved
I absolutely loved the moody romanticism of this album. Especially in that it also held an underlying positivity. I did start to wonder if it’s actually the music or if the music just fits my personality, but at the end of the day, I don’t care.
since I’ve already heard Low-Life, I thought I’d listen to Brotherhood before this album and Brotherhood was really good, definitely a 10/10, the singer kinda sounded like Pink Guy when he sang but overall awesome album Technique was kind of a surprise tho, a lot more of the electronic, discotheque stuff still super good tho, just hits different 10/10
This was one of the first CDs I ever bought back in the day. "Fine Time" was (and is, honestly) a favorite party tune. This is some fine music and nostalgia as well.
When this album popped up, my first thought was "Oh, I know this one." Turns out that I do not. Even after three listens, I would swear that it is the first time that I am hearing some of the tracks. I don't know what that means, but I really liked the album and plan to listen to it again (for the first time, I guess) and again.
Doesn't have the top top hits but in my opinion is one of their best overall albums. Catchy at every turn and easy to repeat listen. The beats are a lot more intense on this one and harkens to Pet Shop Boys.
Jag älskar New Order man. det finns något i ljuden de använder och hur borta sångaren låter som får tankarna att gå...
This was a fantastic listen. Didnt know how it would go as it had no real singles that were successful.....didnt need them 5 stars
Standout - Dream Attack I liked this album a lot, and I knew that I like New Order before this I was driving for most of it so I don't know the song names that well, which is why I only have one standout Cool bass sounds, synths, vocals and drums
love every song except the intro. absolutely excellent project
Super interesting especially given their history as a band that arise from the ashes of Joy Division. The band is embracing electronic sounds influenced by club music yet can’t shake their new wave roots and the result is wonderfully moody and danceable music. This album has a great sense of space and doesn’t feel too cluttered; every layer is able to be heard clearly
Good album. The incorporation of acid house and dance beats definitely leads into the 90's club scene
The funkiest, danciest, most layered electropop albums I've ever heard. Bops front to back.
I'm a sucker for new order
Loved it!
Great album, no filler, their best in my opinion. I even like Fine Time! Highlight is Dream Attack.
Solid.tunes. awesome
One of the best albums from one of the best bands.
Fantastic - better than I remembered.
FACT-275! Brilliant. Fun fact: none of the song titles are mentioned in the lyrics.
So... the remaining members of Joy Division got together to form a disco band? Cool. 4 stars.
Good enough, gets an extra half a star. I am one of the rare people who prefers New Order to Joy Division.
Wow what a funky album. I really like the vibe. Didn't know the artist but will try to listen to more of them
good
Really great 80s album.
higher 3 but rounding up opp of what i did last time bc i am #inconsistent
This was pretty good. I’ll have to listen to it again to really know where it stands, but I love the vocals and the lyrics.
4/5. Though New Order always had a danceable quality to their music, “Technique” is the album that saw them most embrace the dance-floor, taking some influence from European electronic music which you can really see on tracks like “Round and Round” or the opener “Fine Time.” Though there are other flavors of song to be found here too. “All the Way” sounds more like a classic Power, Corruption and Lies era New Order track. On the whole though, very good album that saw New Order successfully shift their sound to something newer.
Really wished I had been in Manchester in the late 80s
after the boredness of low-life ITS NEW ORDER TIME AGAIN! they dont have power corruption and lies on the list which makes me quite disappointed. but lets just use what we have to the maximum i guess? anyway, half of the songs on the album being jangle pop things is one of the most hilarious concept that have ever appeared. peter, bernard and the gang just said "lets make a dance album but half of the songs sounds like the smiths". yet the non-jangle pop songs could be called from really decent to best song ever. so, generally, mr. peter hook, mr, bernard sumner, mr. stephen morris and miss gillian gilbert, i now award you my four stars. hope power, corruption and lies dont bring me down in the future. 4/5
Is that... a sheep?? As a fan of Patrick the chicken's work on Savage Sinusoid, I'm all for it. Got some good 80s vibes here (right down to the garish album cover) Neat rhythm play, fun synths, neon nonsense. I dig it. I particularly enjoyed "Run" and "Vanishing Point". A few of these tracks would be better without the vocals though.
Good songs, good production, well performed, catchy, great basslines, Just Like Heaven 2.0
80s synth done right.
Great vocals on a good synthy beat. 4/5
The opening track aside it's a classic New Order album. The opener is their take on the Balearic sound and presumably the sheep noise is a comment on the acid house bands that sprung forth at the time
As far as new wave goes this is pretty good. I wouldn’t call it the best of anything, but it was enjoyable enough.
maybe my favorite from them??? jangle pop and acid house are not two things that should go together but they do
Didn't expect too like this album this much, such beautifull melodies brought in typical New Order way. 1. Love Less 2. All the Way 3. Vanishing Point
Really enjoyed this several times through. Comfortable sound.
Ok I like these guys. This is the second album I've had by them, and I think the other was their first album. The sound is more refined and the vocals are improved. The melodies are catchy. They sound like 90's rock melodies. One of the rare new wave bands I'm liking.
Good album! Love new order! Wasn't one of the greats but still good!
verrassend lekker (hoewel ik natuurlijk een enorm new wave sletje ben)
vanaf nu biseksueel
It wasn't their best album but it's so fun
A more refined version of the 80's New Order sound. Solid 4 Stars.
Seems ahead of its time.
smällare så det ryker om!!
3.75
Muy 80d new order. Not complaining
Funky but I lowkey mess with it
Very good indeed. It doesn't have the big hits that Substance has, but it's a fantastically immersive and engrossing listen. Sumner is on great form through this, and it feels like the most Hacienda of their albums - or to put it another way, they've well and truly left their Joy Division roots behind. It's not quite at the five mark, just because it doesn't really have a definably great moment of euphoria, but it's still super.
Yeah I'd listen to this again and again. Real fun stuff that makes you want to dance. It's groovy and funky with some great beats but still retains a darker edge. Very nice indeed. Favourites: Fine Time All The Way Run Vanishing Point
This is one of those albums that other artists like Trent Reznor and Al Jourgenson would listen to and adapt the post punk and new wave sound to give it a more harsher and more percussive identity, leading to the birth of industrial rock. while I prefer New Order's substance 1987 compilation album, This one manages to maintain the catchiness of synth heavy electronic rock. It keeps to a steady momentum that doesn't slow down to much, making this album feel shorter than 39 minutes.
I didn't know new order was a spin off of joy division.
Wauv 💕 Love Less 💕 Dejligt album. Jeg har aldrig hørt det før. Jeg er nok i det rundhåndede hjørne lige nu, men det er fordi jeg tror, jeg kan conditione mig selv til at blive obsessed af det. 3.8
Solid New Order album. Not their best, but still good.
Enjoyed this 80s throwback. I wanna be an Atomic Blonde listening to it.
I was unfamiliar with this album and very much enjoyed this. Fun, 80's driving beats and lots of energy. I couldn't believe it wasn't the cure at times. Not their best, but fun.
Such a fun record. All the synths and stuff feel super dated on the first track, but they follow it up with an absolute banger. The whole thing had me nodding along. Though about giving it a 5. Will be coming back to this one.
Buktafestivalen fikk tilbud om å booke New Order i 2012. De takket nei. Sivert Høyem spilte i stedet…
Veldig usikker på denne. Veldig bra på sitt beste, men lider litt av å være fra sent 80-tall. Er vel ikke peak New Order. Stod mellom 3 og 4, men lar tvilen komme tilgode.
Helt konge!
A "Balearic beat acid house electronic dance rock album recorded on the island of Ibiza" seemed so antithetical to the kinds of music I prefer, that I was dreading sitting down to listen to it. Someway and somehow, I found it great - especially the more dancey-electronicky parts of the record. For the most part, I preferred them to the more rock sound New Order and especially Joy Division are known for. I'm just flabbergasted to be here looking up what records are more dancey in New Orders and others discography, and just avoiding the post punk altogether. It's not a 5/5 since I don't consider it a perfect "album experience" (would need more cohesion track by track to me for that), but nevertheless a great listen as a collection of songs.
7/10
Nice 80s disco vibes
Awesome
8/10 Very New Order. No songs that I knew, but lots of sounds that I did
Lekker albumpie. +1 voor de laatste 2 nummers, beste voor het laatst bewaard klaarblijkelijk
Human League, maar dan niet gaar.
A good electronic take on New Order's classic sound, very unique and full of life, nothing but great songs here
a real treat. never listened to this album before but i’m somewhat familiar with New Order. had to immediately play it again
A very good album that I want to like more than I do. Some very fun new wave songs that are enjoyable, and some dance songs that I wish were not on the album. If the overall sound stuck closer to new wave this would be a fantastic album, but the dance/electronica-heavy parts do detract a bit. Top tracks: All the Way, Love Less, Dream Attack
This is a very good album but it should’ve absolutely been “Power Corruption and Lies” instead. Favorite track: Vanishing Point 3.5/5
I’m excited to listen to this. I really don’t know any New Order. First track is good. Reminded me of KMFDM. On “all the way” now. I really like this song. The first track is misleading. But then track 4 is a slight return to that. On the last track now. Now I get the draw to new order. This is a great album.
Nowhere near as good as the first Four that precede it
I like it
Dance yrself clean.
Definitely a transitional album, sloughing off the gloom and heading off to the disco.
i love new order but i don't think of them as an albums band; this would be my least favourite of their '80s discs either way. the unconverted should stick with Substance, collecting their 12" singles.
I was initially a little underwhelmed by this, but it grew on me. There was one moment of really dated synth sound, but apart from that I'd say this is a very solid album. Vanishing point might just be the best song I've never heard before. Absolutely loved it. Going to give it 4 stars as I'd like to explore this album more.
RIP pasha technique
This wasn't Ron Asheton's New Order but I liked it. 3.5 actual rating.
This starts as not really my kind of thing (too dance/techno) but then becomes much more my kind of thing. 3.5 rounding up.
synthie und ein rest von punkiger attitude - tönt retrospektiv etwas weichgespült und brav.
Exceptional new wave/synth. Danceable and fun while maintaining some darkness and mystery. Elite melodies and vibes. Great band.
Was not expecting to like this so much. The lyrics are amazing and their blend of techno pop disco with goth/alt rock feels really special and seamless
Enjoyed this! 4 *
A bright 80s synthpop thing that grew on me pretty quickly. I'm not as heavily into this kind of sound as I once was, but the me of the late 90s or early 00s probably would've rated this 5 stars. Highlight: "Round & Round" has a great catchy chorus backed by nice little blips and boops.
Dont mind it.
The division between Joy Division and New Order was marked most notably by the band partying around Europe and letting themselves be influenced by the music they hear. It was a way to ease the pain of the loss of their former bandmate, but it seems like every passing album got a little further away from their roots. "Technique" is probably the apex of their dance music journey. The rock band behind it is partly noticeable here on some tracks, although hints remain. This album also lacks any of their biggest hits. Despite that it was a huge success for the band and is still an excellent album. It might be easy to dismiss it as a bad Ibiza club album at first glance but the more you listen, the more of the band you can hear underneath. "Vanishing Point" is a major highlight for me and one of the best New Order songs out there.
I like it
לא ייאמן ההבדל מJoy Division
Reading about this one, I've learned they took inspiration from acid house, a genre that's never done much for me. Luckily, the main result here is an album that maybe feels a bit shinier than New Order's typical output? Actually, more than anything, I think this kind of reminds me of Modern English, the way they've got the synthesizers and some jangly guitars?
We’ve had an interesting 2 albums from New Order. Still waiting on Piwer Corruption and Loes which is honestly the only album of theirs we need on the list. This isn’t for everyone but I enjoy it. I like the low key but still catchy electronic stuff. Love Less and Vanishing Point were standouts.
I had no issue with this album but it didn’t do a ton for me. Melodies were solid though so I have to give that credit. The album cover is really cool.
I've listened to a little New Order but never a full album that I can recall. It's really good! It evoked hanging out in an arcade in the '80s, though I'm a bit too young for that. Really enjoyed it the full way through
There's a lot to like with this album, the mix of alternative rock with poppy electronic synth, you can see New Order's impact on the New Romantic subgenre in the 80's. Not all hits but wouldn't say there's a bad song here. Upbeat and smooth.
Loved
Really good!
This one's a lot of fun. I was familiar with a few of New Order's songs before, but none from this album. The acid rock influences work really well with the group's electronic sound. Favorite track: "Vanishing Point"
Интересный альбом) больше всех зашла песня round&round
This was so good! It was so difficult to pick a bottom 3 for this one. I've only heard Blue Monday before but this definitely makes me want to listen to more of their songs Tracks I've heard before: None Top 3: All The Way Round & Round Vanishing Point Bottom 3: Love Less Guilty Partner Run
Überraschend.
18/01/2026 1. fine time - liking initial synths. liking the amount of layering, but not sure how to feel, espec compared to their earlier stuff. not massive about the drum machine. i get to a point i don't like and then just as i'm starting to get annoyed, it changes to a really great bit and the cycle keeps repeating!! really liking the beat drops and the insane sounding synths. goat sound effect??? definitely grew on me throughout! *2. all the way - reallllly great bass! peter hook <3 really like bernard sumner's vocals. like the lyrics as well. very sweet. kinda jangly :) 3. love less - colder synths at the start. coughing?? love the drums. really lovely lyrics again.... 4. round and round - housey again! inital thoughts, it does sound a little dated... liking the echoing vocals. realllllly love the squelchy synths. *5. guilty partner - bass is great throughout, but immediately stands out more for me! more goth-y? love the growl in sumner's vocals :) *6. run - double guitar is really great!! bass is killer as always! the lyrics are reaaal nice. lovely ending. love the synth. a lot of new order songs always sound very sentimental and sweet :) maybe just nostalgia? 7. mr disco - back to dance music. really loving the synths. great! *8. vanishing point - really love the chorus. bass and guitar bang!!! 9. dream attack - like the name of this one. really liking the backing vocals. bass and synth are really nice :) manchester!!!! googled the other new order albums on this list and lies power and corruption isn't even on it!!!! how?!!! not finished yet, currently stuck between a four and a five... feel like it's not taken as seriously/rated as highly because it's (80s) dance music? reaally loved it but i would still prefer earlier new order :)
Never listened to this one before, not my favourite by them but some good dance bangers
I'm such a sucker for 80s synths and this is no exception.
Shamefully I haven't actually listened to much New Order before this, but this was great and I'll be going deeper
A good, if disjointed record. It didn't seem like they could decide between doing a Smithsy janglepop thing or sticking to classic New Order synths. Luckily I tend towards both sounds, and the tunes were good anyway, but it didn't come off as the most cohesive record ever as a result
Not a bad listen
A good run of music. Although I didn't know any of the songs on this album, it was a pleasant surprise.
Yeah this shit was tight as fuck!!
What a groove- def feels lik an evolution of the disco sound
So New Order songs sound the same. It's good stuff and I didn't remember this album previously. Top tracks: "Vanishing Point," "Round & Round," "Fine Time," "All the Way"
Didn't know New Order kept going that long. Fun listen. Walked to the Pompidou after Spanish class and then listened to this on a very windy cycle back.
I liked it but it lacks but some tracks didn't work to me.
me mola el rollo
I like all the sounds but not much stood out.
Listened Before? N This is an interesting work from NO. I've never heard anything from this one before, and I liked most of it, but I kind of agree with another reviewer that they were sort of all over the place. It's like half radio-friendly pop and half hardcore acid dance stuff. Either way, it's well executed and produced. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Round and Round
Funn new wave music
Technique by New Order is getting a low 4 from me, I deep dived New Order a couple of years back having always loved PC&L, Technique has some fantastic moments, esp the first 2 and final 2 tracks, but it sags in the middle for me
Good but not their best. Vanishing Point is the highlight.
I'm a fan, but this one is a weird choice for the 1001. No singles.
R.E.M takes a pill in Ibiza
Really fun late 80s synth pop album. Should have leaned more into the synth, but enjoyed the album through the entire thing. 8 out of 10
A lot more poppy than I was expecting. Some fine songs and great bass.
Cool
Pretty cool.
BANGERS
Groovy!!!
Upbeat, catchy. Lots of hi-hats. Enjoyed!
Dark, moody and pure New Order.
This album’s pretty good, I like new order
I love new order but am surprised that Substance isn’t considered more influential.
nice
Enjoyed this electronica upbeat listen
I enjoyed this album, liked the synth sound, good album cover. I also really like 24 hour party people, shambolic and chaotic but seems to capture the time well.
I don't know if New Wave is growing on me, but I really enjoyed this album. I'm going to have to give this 1000 album thing a second spin as a whole to compare ratings from the first to the second for sure. There are definitely some regrets on some earlier albums that I've come to appreciate substantially more, and I think this would have been one of them if I had been given it over a year ago.
Got even better on the second listen. Really liked Run. Relisten pushed me to 4 stars
Better base than I had expected, but in the end sounded like generic soundtrack for the time.
A good album, not their best, but a good listen.
Really good and catchy music. The electronic beat and the singers voice is the highlights to me. Definitely something I will add to playlists and come back to.
I will never not like New Order
Really enjoyable album, from All The Way to Run were all highlight tracks on the album. Loved listening to this one.
Stellar basslines the whole way through. Some of Hook's best on tracks like Round & Round as well as Mr. Disco. Super dancey with some goofy samples, but mostly shit I'd like to throw on to get a house party going.
On the whole I liked this album, except for the first song. I found the first song irritating and I was glad when it was over. There were a couple of songs that I really liked, especially Run and Love Less.
The force is strong with this one. Play this again I probably will not.
Yes like these guys nit their best one doesnt have the song about eyes.
Day663 - i only ever listen to the joy division/new order hits but this album is really good. another influential band that should be inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame
24 Hour Party People forever! New Order is a really amazing link in the chain from disco to techno and this album was fun journey through that link. Still give a slight nod to Joy Division, but this is a good one.
This synth-pop album fuses shimmering electronics with pulsing house and Balearic beats, layering sequencers, crisp percussion, and bright guitars beneath understated, detached vocals and lyrics steeped in melancholy, emotional disconnection, and romantic uncertainty.
Good listen, though a bit of an identity crisis at times.
pretty cool, i liked this. not a huge new order fan but their sound is generally good. i did know round and round going into this and it's one of my favorites by them, so this review is heavily influenced by that. favorites: fine time, round and round, run, vanishing point
You know, for as much as Joy Division and New Order are discussed in the same conversations, the two bands sure do sound different from one another. I mean, one is pretty heavily in post-punk territory, while the other goes more into synth-pop than anything. The connections? Uhh... a few band members and the fact that both of those genres are extremely over-represented on this list. Well, I guess I should talk about Technique then. It's great! I do think that Low-Life is probably the better album, but Technique isn't much weaker. This is a great synth-pop album right here. The album is very danceable as any synth-pop album should be. However, the album isn't vapid or uninspired. The writing here has an emotional core to it beyond "haha beep boop dance time." There's songs about relationship struggles and such, which I really respect. I guess that's another thing the two bands have in common; good songwriting. The songs here are really good. "Round & Round," "Vanishing Point," and "Dream Attack" are just excellent. This album's pretty cool. I also really like the album cover's color scheme, but that's not really a music thing. 4/5.
4 Balearic beat the sound of the Argentinean waves crashing on the shore. Coupled with dance floor ibiza happenings. Ibiza was where the rich could be hippy, in sea breeze open air venues. New order found free expression and acid house influence, and blended it into the group's dance-rock sound. There is a sense of Dance floor spirituality. Technique was the first New Order album to reach number one on the UK charts.
Moderne pour son temps, vraiment cool
Régalade
Surprisingly boppy, didn't know must of the songs but we grooved to them
Not a vital album for the album itself, but rather a pivotal album for leading into all of the Rave/Acid influenced music that would breakout in the early 90s in the United Kingdom and in the United States.
Honestly I kinda dig it. A little weird but not too weird. Pretty good working music.
TECHNIQUE!!! wow, so excited to get this one. Mr Disco is maybe my favorite New Order song (next to Temptation), but i quite like every song on this album.
This album made me want to research their evolution from joy division to the more mature sound of this album.
It has always felt to me that they sort of over perfected their sound on this record or maybe it was that they got access to new toys or something. The Ibiza/dance influence gets overstated. Fine Time aside it is very much identifiably an 80s New Order album. I still really like it but I'd have Brotherhood on the list or break the no compilations rule and have Substance. Run is pretty great.
Not my fav New Order's LP, still it's their sound i love the most
Gute 80er Jahre Pop-Musik
открыла для себя new order с новой, танцевальной стороны. песни довольно разнообразные и каждая чем-то цепляет. all the way, round & round, vanishing point!!!
Interesant, ceva diferit, nu stiu daca o sa-l mai ascult, poate da
It’s a classic. Too much new wave and synths for me but i recognize the importance of this album.
new order is an interesting case, definitely another member of those "new wavey weird experimental groups" of the decade that got a lot of popularity; i've heard quite a lot from them in the past. this album here is a really quirky... dance album for the most part. sometimes it's groovin' rock, other times it's synthy songs with drum machines. very atmospheric overall... i feel like this album would sound best at a local nightclub. it's pretty good! i think this another case of "this album is generally great but i can't really think of a lot of things to say about it". dancey poppy rocky stuff. i'm not surprised it went to number one in the UK.
Super
Right in the first track you can hear what will be the sound of rave culture. In that respect alone it makes for an interesting listen. I admit I’m not a huge fan of New Order. But, for the Pop history that it is, that automatically gets 2 stars right out of the gate.
I really do enjoy New Order going back a long time. I've heard probably 3/4ths of these songs from the Substance 2 disc compilation that I've got.
Really cool house/rock album. Very interesting combo
This album has grown on me from R&R to Dream Attack on a relisten. I always feel that synthpop has great potential to be annoying, and the happier the song sounds, the worse it is. Maybe it's just my love for sad and dark music. Anyway, the less dancey New Order gets, the more I enjoy it. Technique sets a pleasantly chill mood, mostly due to the vocalist's very detached delivery, which works great with the more energetic music. He's got a very nice timbre, which adds a lot to the overall impression.
Nice etc
I like, but it seems New Order are ripping off--er, interpolating--The Cure's Just Like Heaven on All The Way. Which shows me that there was some cross pollination happening between the bands. As I only thought it was Robert Smith doing the ripping off. First of all, compare The Cure's Splintered In Her Head to Joy Division's Atrocity Exhibition. Then also compare The Walk to Blue Monday.
Väldigt bra album. Väldigt tidstypiskt, i alla fall vissa låtar. Lite kort och lite osammanhängande men bra
Fascinating
(83/100)
FAVO: Fine Time, Round and Round, Run, Mr Disco
Very good
Brilliant album with a couple of all time greats
The vibe musically, completely different from joy division, but the content stays the same though. Gotta respect that they don't rehash their old sound.
8/10/25 Listened while cooking. Would be good for a.m. walk. Not great for journal writing.
Hmm, was kinda hoping the whole album would be like the first song, and it wasn’t!!
Alright, first of all, the disrespect to not have Power Corruption and Lies on the list is crazy. That’s an easy 5. Anyway, moving on to this: much more synthy and danceable compared to Low Life. The sheep noises in the first song were a choice. Some of this was almost Smith’s adjacent. Favorite songs were All The Way, Round & Round, Run, and Dream Attack.
…I mean, electronic twiddles do not make a song or an album ‘dance’. One wouldn’t, for example, set anything here next to Voodoo Ray or French Kiss on a set list. But it is good. It is still good.
I love New Wave music. It really is a great album.
Fun listen this thing was filled with retro new wave bop after bop
Don’t love all these tracks, but the ones I do like are so great it pushes this album beyond a 3.
4.5/5
Wow, the opening track “Fine Time” is incredible! I felt like it was rewiring my brain as it assaulted me with layers and layers of programmed drums, spiky synths, and guitars. The song keeps morphing, adding new elements in a wild, dance floor mania. Really cool track! This album is pretty eclectic. It moves between synthpop bangers, post-punk and alt-rock, and I was along for the ride. One listen was not enough. I felt as though I was only beginning to wrap my head around it all after one listen. Beautiful album cover. It feels ahead of its time. So striking and colorful. Fantastic.
I like New Order but I haven't heard this album yet. It's pretty interesting; that first song "Fine Time" is kind of maximalist and at times overwhelming with it's abrasive synth layers. I don't dislike it, but it's not the usual New Order sound that I'm used to. However, once the second track, "All The Way" comes in I'm brought right back to the familiar sound. "All The Way" is really great. I have always loved their production and this is a great example of their fully realized sound. The layers are so separate and clean, I can easily stop and focus on just the bass, just the clean electric guitar, just the drums, just the synth, the vocals, etc. It's such a nice listening experience that makes me want to listen to the song(s) over and over and discover new parts. I liked this! Solid 4/5. Great album cover. I want to listen again.
I've been a fan of New Order for over 30 years and saw them live again several months ago. They are not a regular listen these days, but this is more a factor of me exploring new things than liking the band less. This album was released in the late 80s, which was a time when music tastes were changing pretty rapidly and you can see the band adapting to this. Yes, there are some of the dance tunes that helped establish the band, but the bulk of the album is a a stretch that works. The combination of their electronic mastery with more traditional instruments, especially bass and drums, creates an album that still stands up to much of the indie pop produced today. I enjoyed listening to this album several times when it entered my que. Another example of why listening to albums in their entirety creates a different vibe that the lazy playlists we all depend on. A cohesive album where the whole is more outstanding than the sum of its parts. As an album, this might be their best? However, I think that their earlier works we're probably more important with respect to the influence this band had in the music that followed. A.fun listen and as the first album by this iconic band to make the UK #1 spot, certainly an appropriate addition to the list.
I’ve been listening to the albums I know I’ll like before catching up w the rest. I’m def gonna regret that soon but oh well. I hadn’t listened to any of these songs before which surprised me bc I rlly enjoy new order. Good listen I liked this
7/10 - I like 80s edm. New order is solid
If only Bernard sumner knew how to sing
Technique is a very solid entry in New Order’s discography. It might not be their best, but it holds its own with confidence and charm. The album immediately brings to mind summer evenings—breezy, danceable, and tinged with a sense of nostalgia. I suspect that was very much the intention. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it delivers exactly what you’d want from late-’80s New Order: lush synths, laid-back grooves, and just enough melancholy beneath the shimmer.
Cool
Album overall was very enjoyable. Definitely more dance focused than other albums of theirs 4/5
Seemed ahead of its time. Very foundational synth stuff here.
Good blend of their characteristic sound with acid house, sounds of edm, good background album i can’t say any one song in particular stood out
Remember hammering this album when it came out, travelling to work but wishing I was somewhere warm. A precursor for many more Ibiza dance oriented outfits but this is a really good album. Not as bass heavy or led as other earlier New order albums but some really good toe tapping songs. For the nostalgia alone this earns it a good rating
