Reviews (page 3 of 8)

Listenable, a couple of highlights, but not greatest album of all time material

I'm not a huge fan of new wave music so my hopes weren't that high for this album. I did actually quite enjoy it though! Upbeat and catchy, what's not to like! 4 ⭐️

Cool and interesting album Standout songs: Love Less Run Dream Attack

Not my absolute favourite of their late-80s efforts, but an absolute masterclass in why drugs are (sometimes) absolutely brilliant

The work at my job was hectic, and this helped me a great deal.

This was my CD to test out new HiFi systems back in the day. Still holds up

Good classic synthpop. This is like what I listen to on a regular basis.

Nice synthpop.

great stuff

This was pretty good! Some of it passed me by but half of it was really solid. Those Peter Hook basslines are so tasty too. I wish more of the songs were like the first song, however. 3.5/5

Banger

This grew on me over the course of the day of listening.

Better than their most famous album wise. Better flow and all songs diferent but somehow connected. Super surprised by this album

Torn between 4 and 5. 4 only because the production was a bit muddled at time. Techno/electronic I can really get behind.

Love it. Favourite track is Vanishing Point 4/5

This was fun and I'd revisit

Interesting enough for an immediate replay. Dance music that’s sophisticated enough that you can sit down and listen to it.

Tekniikka on tunkea levyyn mahdollisimman monta synasoundia, kitararaitaa ja bassolinjaa. Mä tykkään, kuinka täynnä biisit on, kuinka yksinkertaisia pimputuksia kerrostetaan. Ja kuinka naiivia laulu on. Sekava kokonaisuus ilahduttavalla tavalla.

The 80s were such an inventive time in music. I have to say my familiarity with New Order was largely limited to Power, Corruption & Lies, which was significantly closer to their Joy Division work. While not totally divorced, I was not anticipating Jellyfish Rave on the intro track. Entertaining for sure. 7.5/10

Love this. 4.5 ☆

7.5/10

Really cool enjoyed a lot

Love their singles Blue Monday and True Faith, never listened to an album though. Enjoyed this

Very consistent album throughout, it just doesn't have the highs as their previous stuff which is why I'd rate it behind at least a couple of their other albums. It is definitely a unique spin on the Madchester movement but doesn't feel as era defining as Happy Mondays/Stone Roses. Still feels deserved here since they nurtured the whole scene at the Hacienda. Honestly between a high 4 and low 5, new order has set the bar too high. Rating: 4.5

Love the bisexual album art

1 very cool, electronic and groovy. 2 very good song. Smiths a little bit. I like a lot the 80 poppy sound on 4. Bass fucking great on that one. Just great song. The record is not very consistent sound wise- an example for it is the difference between 6 and 7. But both add to the summer vibe of the project. Last track fun aswell and groovy as hell. What a great album. Wasn't expecting that from New Order. Just fabulous. Going to rock this one a lot this summer.

So I kinda skipped ahead and listened to some Cure, Joy Division, and New Order records before getting them on this list (didn't care much for Joy Division. Liked some of The Cure. I can't remember the New Order record I listened to). Didn't listen to Technique ahead of time though, but I will say listening to those albums ahead of time has definitely helped me appreciate 80's post-punk/new wave/synth pop music a lot more. Previously I really only enjoyed Depeche Mode and a little bit of Souxie and the Banshees because a lot of these bands trade in 80's styles that aren't really my thing, and tend to be sickeningly bittersweet. And I generally wasn't huge on male fronted new wave in the past. That said, aside from a shaky start on the first song, this album is back to back to back bangers. Lyrics can be a bit off (not a fan of the "I do so much for you but you keep picking assholes who don't appreciate you, I could love you better" lyrics of Love Less, but the music and singing are great). This album comes off as very Depeche Mode but in major? Which is probably why I ended up enjoying it so much, because Depeche Mode is great.

Ian Curtis lives

Fun 80's dance pop. A good listen for when you need some pep in your day

Reminds me of Lex

Knew this was going to be a banger from the first 30 seconds

This was a great album. Cool vibe, doesn't overstay its welcome, every song is different enough to renew your interest but similar enough to the others that the album has a cohesive feel. I love the bass playing on these songs

love new order like duh.... but also a few of these literally just sound like the cure??? kind of wild?? All the Way reminded me so much of Boys don't Cry That being said i also love the cure so who cares

If I went to a party, and someone played this album, I'd want to be invited back

Surprisingly impressed with this one, kept my interest throughout and overall was a bop of a record!

Not remotely as good as older NO albums

I oscillated between a 3 or a 4 star rating while listening to this album. At times I loved it, but other times it was just okay. "Run" is far and away the best song on the album, and I'll definitely have it on heavy rotation going forward, but "Round & Round" and "Love Less" were also great, with the latter reminding me of The Cure. I wish I could give this a 3.5, but when thinking about the spirit of this list, I do think I needed to hear this album before I die, even if I didn't love everything about it. But it is so unique and groundbreaking that it truly deserves its spot on this list, so therefore I have to round up.

Love this

A perfect album other than the opening track.

The closest I can compare it to is Depeche Mode. This is pretty good when you're in a nostalgic mood.

3.5 stars. No hits but a solid 80's dance rock album, slick and well-produced. Standout is "Run".

I have always missed New Order but were listening to some songs here and there but I didn't know what quite to expect. Once the first song started, my excitement quickly faded and I thought to myself "Oh no, not one of these antiquated 80s drum sequencer things again that were modern at the time but now terribly dated". Yet Technique was surprisingly great! There are plenty of good tracks on here that mix infectious bass lines with a relaxed vocal delivery and nice acoustic guitars. It's an odd mix that is very much reminds of the soundscapes of Joy Division which was tragically cut short. There is always a certain threshold where old school vintage sounds kind of become just dated. I feel that New Order delivers an enticing blend that feels nostalgic and still enjoyable. Fine Fine and Mr Disco are horrible though because they are a prime example on how the technology at the time was just very limited. All the other tracks offer so much more texture instead of the bog standard default sounds that your 50 quid Yamaha keyboard has integrated these days. Guilty Partner is definitely the highlight for me, absolutely great track with a sick bassline.

Pretty good stuff. Wasn't sure about it from the opening track. But I did end up enjoying it.

Man, this started off so strong. I was there for it. Then after the first track ir just kind of all slid off. I still enjoyed it, but this was my first intro to New Order and I'm left with no idea if I want to go listen to more of their catalogue.

While not my favorite NO album, it’s still pretty damn good. I’ve always enjoyed this band and no sane person can avoid at least tapping your toe or swaying a bit when one of their songs come on. Summers voice always makes me smile. Their songs always take me on a mental journey. Favorite song is Round and Round. Good stuff!

I'm conflicted. I love this band but this album has always been a bit boring to me. When they get it right they create amazing singles but most of these... Aren't.

Excellent album, I really enjoy this type of synth pop. I've never actually heard this whole album but I recognize some of the hits. It's really well done musically and lyrically. The style of singing is very unique and instantly reminds me of when I was young.

So fire I like the mixture of house with late 80s pop disco vibe

I never really clicked with this album fully before, but I see the significance of it now. It was very forward thinking, and you can hear the transition of 80s electronic sounds to 90s dance sounds. I like a lot of New Order songs, but don't really connect with them fully. I blame Bernard Sumner's very average singing! 7/10

Not as good as Stone Roses debut. About as good as Happy Mondays. This is fine, much brighter/cleaner New Order, but too many songs are too sheen-y, too much like Depeche Mode, too dance-y and there's nothing epic/unforgettable like their best work. The strengths are the usual things – Sumner's earnest, melancholy-tinged vocals, Hook's probing bass, hooks galore. The shearing guitar on "Run" is a highlight. "Mr. Disco" and "Vanishing Point" illustrate the downside of the record (and the fundamental limiting issue of the band): both songs offer rich, dreamy and undestated hooks (largely down to Hook's grooving) that get undone with stabbing synths that sound so very late '80s and just like disposable club music (though one's sure the crowd at the Hacienda loved it); one prefers the songs that sound more like indie/new wave, while the club kids likely don't care for those cuts and wish NO just kept to the straight-up house/club template. So, just because it might be their best record doesn't make automatically make it anymore than a good-to-very-good one.

Yeah fire.

3 stars in reality because I’m comparing it to that album with the flowers on the cover and the other one with the guys face … but songs like run and fine time make up for it for me

Basen för helvete, blir alldeles lycklig! Fyra plus.

Monster

I don’t think the generator needed to add a year - everything about this screams 1989. Still, timelessness is overrated and I really enjoyed this.

I am disappointed to know this is the last New Order album that I will be listening to in this book. I tapped my foot pretty much the whole time this album was on and I was surprised to know I like the remixed version of Round and Round better than the album version. I still really like the album version, of course. I enjoyed every song on here and was surprised of the amount of jangly guitar that was present. I am used to dance-y New Order and even some of the post-punk sound from Low-Life. Highlights for me were: Love Less All the Way Round and Round Guilty Partner Run Vanishing Point Dream Attack I pretty much liked every song. Great album.

Upbeat and cheerful

This was a good time! It didn't quite grab me like Low-Life did though.

This is a super fun and silly new wave album. Nearly to the point of being comedic. Loved this album, added a lot of songs from this album onto my main playlist. Definitely worth your time.

Oh, I quite liked Technique. It's less rock and more dance, and noticeably different from New Order's original sound. Synth is there, because it's still the eighties, but it's more electronic sounding. This album definitely precedes electronica and EDM while sounding a lot more creative and full in comparison to many albums to come. I heard similarities with this album and Radiohead, but this was definitely less pretentious and better in quality over all. I'd put New Order on a similar standing as Pet Shop Boys, though PSB is more synth-pop than alternative dance.

As far as electronic dance music goes when it was emerging in the 80s, this is pretty solid -- it's a lot less corny and a lot less "one note" than a lot of electronic dance of the time. The album is pretty short and sweet and to the point; I'm not saying every song is an absolute hit, but it definitely left me feeling like there wasn't any unnecessary filler here. The album art for this album is great, too. It immediately caught my attention, as it could easily pass as album art released today. The bold, contrasting colors of the background and foreground of the art are quite bold. I don't know a whole lot about New Order; I don't know why this album was included over some of their even earlier 80s new wave/electronic dance, arguably even more influential and more well known. But nonetheless, I enjoyed this! I guess this is around a 3.5 for me, and considering some of the garbage 80s EDM that is on this project, I'll bump this up to really highlight it!

'Round and Round' was good. That's about all I can say.

3.5 stars rounded up. First theee tracks are the best. The rest has signature New Order sounds without being repetitive.

Pretty alright, its really giving that 90s neon colors and summery vibes. Didnt quite have the hook that gets me going. Maybe i gotta listen to this more and then get into it. Mr. Disco and Vanishing Point were great

I'm a huge New Order (and Joy Division fan), Vanishing Point and Dream Attack are some of their best. But this album doesn't really come together like some of their others, so it gets a 4. Power, Corruption, and Lies will get a 5 when it comes up

Love the 80s vibes. Well it came out in 1989 so obviously lol but the synth pop is lovely. Soothing. Especially on Run, Vanishing Point, and Love Less.

You want to make me biased against you before I even listen? Describe your band as “one of the most influential and acclaimed bands of all time” on your Spotify bio. 😒 That said, I really liked this album. The 80’s are really growing on me. 4/5 Highlights: All the Way

80s good synth tones

New Order is one of my favorite bonds. While isn't onevof my favorites from them, its still worth listening to from beginning to end.

The story of New Order is one of triumph. I believe they have more than earned not only their spot on this list, but their place in the history books, for their willingness to push past the obstacle that was Ian Curtis’ death. I didn’t mention this in my review of Low-Life, so I will now. When you really break it down, as much as the difference between the two bands is really only one member, Joy Division and New Order are artistically very different. And should be respected as such. They shouldn’t be defined in history as “the band who lost their singer and became anew”. I find their success really impressive, and they are maybe one of the few bands who continued so far past their genesis that still found ways to keep things interesting. This came nearly a decade after the debut, and just under ten years after Unknown Pleasures. It’s also probably the last noteworthy piece of music they released. Thankfully, innovation was still to be had. It has been quite a while, so excuse me if I’m wrong, but the alternative dance and synth pop foundations of this record are relatively similar to that of what I’ve heard before. The difference here is that they supposedly push the dance side of things much harder. So far that it gets labeled as acid house. These are the same people who made Blue Monday, so dance-centric music was never too far out of their playbook. I didn’t really know what to expect, but Fine Time immediately hits like a brick wall and puts all expectations to rest. Fortunately, they also immediately set themselves apart from their contemporaries, if they hadn’t already by now, and prove that they were creating with a better understanding of what worked and what didn’t. There is so many little sounds here and there that make some of these songs actually worth multiple listens. And I think a lot of what they pulled off is super cool. Except, I was actually a little disappointed at how much this leans into the jangle pop sound. I really was hoping for more of whatever I was hearing on songs like Round & Round. Hilariously ironic, considering around a year ago I would have scoffed at the idea of a whole album like that. Overall though, I find this to be equally as enjoyable as Low-Life, and another solid example of why these people are still spoken about today. Rating: 7/10

I do enjoy a good bit of Peter Hook and his baselines

Too many songs that sound like Depeche Mode ripoffs (plus a couple that should be on Cure records), but there's much that works well in vintage NO style (probing bass, authentic, slightly sad-yearning vocals). There's an excess of production gloss and maybe too much warmth in the vocals (which reads broad and obvious). There are too many synthy flourishes (see "Round and Round," "Mr. Disco") that relegate this to the disposable club music ghetto and badly date this (who cares about Ibiza now?). One much prefers the songs that sound like new wave/indie rock ("All the Way," "Love Less," "Run"). This is a somewhat generous rounding up for a record that doesn't really compare to the Stone Roses' debut.

This was a much better album than I expected it to be. I actually really enjoyed it. I am surprised and may even go so far as to listen to more of these guys. Great stuff.

🎧I thought I was already familiar with all the great New Order albums. I thought wrong. All the Way sounds like The Cure.

The sound of the late 80's, when many (many!) were in a trance.

Man, the 80s were weird.

I'm so glad that New Order decided to rebrand themselves after Ian Curtis died, they wouldn't have lasted long continuing as Joy Division. It really gave them the creative freedom to experiment more with synthpop and new wave, as opposed to pure post-punk. And with that, we have amazing albums like this. Ian Curtis' death was obviously a tragedy, but New Order are an amazing silver lining.

goeie wel, altijd fan van new order sicke albumcover ook

Kind of more hi-nrg than I remember. Really good though, can still see its influence decades later. Some naive melodies and dated programming, but it sounds distinctive and it works.

Surprisingly not bad?? I didn’t think I would like it, but it’s like funky daft punk??? Sort of a trip to listen to.

New Order were always good at picking a perfect time to strike. Having ruled the 1980s, at first unintentionally then literally, their last album for the decade Technique whisks up the steam generated by the then-concurrent dance scenes in both Ibiza and Manchester and turns it into their own potent form of intoxication. A last hurrah of sorts for the most influential band of hedonistic revellers in their record label Factory, New Order and Technique goes to show that the legend, at times, is sometimes worth believing. Favorites: Fine Time, All the Way, Round & Round, Guilty Partner, Mr. Disco, Dream Attack.

Really enjoyed this, especially the bass lines.. Just scrapes a 4*

no skips I need to listen to more new order soon

Aug. 27 (after hours) HL: "Vanishing Point", "Run", "Guilty Partner", "All the Way" 3rd New Order I've heard, after Low Life and Power, Corruption & Lies I can't argue for the importance of Technique in relation to acid house, synthpop or even among New Order albums. But it sounds good & I like it so... 4 stars it is

I enjoyed this, but even as I just stopped listening I don't remember anything about it. 3.5/5 I think!

Not my favourite of theirs by a long chalk, but still pretty decent. Plus Barney’s voice ❤️

I can’t help viewing New Order through a Blue Monday shaped prism - the least appropriate way to spend 12 minutes on a dance floor. But, of course, I was in Manchester when this album came out and, of course, it’s really very good.

Another band that I know largely from greatest hits. I really enjoyed this.

Just a really solid album, but nothing that is a blockbuster, unless it's Fine Time. Enjoyable to listen to, but doesn't really jolt on a drive, for example.

Dense, énergique, mais avec une voix grave et calme. Ambiance de soirée dansante en 89

New Order expertly fuses rock and dance to create a triumphant, Balearic blend of sun-drenched sounds evoking the sensual pleasures of a perfect summer day.

I liked this more than I expected. The vocals are kind of meh but otherwise I really enjoyed bopping along. Even more fun with binaural headphones.

A great album full of instantly recognizable tracks that are institutions to themselves.

Good music.

Sounds like The Cure and Depeche Mode had a baby. The album is solid throughout. Would do again.

Mr. Disco was a revelation. Also dug Vanishing Point and Dream Attack so much that I immediately re-listened to the final 3 tracks. Felt more intrigued by the electronic elements than the pop punk, but that's perhaps personal taste.

This was very danceable! However this is not something to which I shall be returning. 8/10

I really liked this. The only thing missing was a variation among the songs. It almost sounded as if they'd run out of ideas in their songwriting and relied on easy and predictable melodies with simple lyrics. It happens and is something you often hear towards the end of a band's peak, but still solid.

Not my favorite New Order album but always worth listening to. Has their telltale feel.

3.5★ Grew on me immensely just within the same day. Was initially put off by Fine Time and became somewhat resistant to the Synths-gone-wild/haywire (mostly in Fine Time, but still; I became almost instantly allergic to the idea of Synth as a result of that), and the strangely alternating sounds, e.g the contrast between the more laid-back rock of Love Less vs. Round and Round's more electric elements and bass emphasis, and as a result didn't really end up feeling strongly about any song except Vanishing Point (more on that one below). To a certain degree, this is still stronger to me when the synths and electric instrumentals are more subdued, when it is less disco-y; nonetheless, outside of the opener, which I'm still somewhat iffy on, pretty much every song here grew on me, with each revisit casting off the initial reflexive disdain/disinclination. And it also happens to be one of the rare albums that arguably gets better as it goes on, peaking with Vanishing Point, a multifarious track that’s somehow simultaneously deeply depressing, hopeful, and dance-inducing—a stunning song, in essence, and certainly far-and-away the highlight here, leagues ahead of the rest; I'm no expert of Joy Division, but from what little I've heard this song seems to me to contain that deep sense of pessimism and Doom that characterized that band's songs that I've heard (even though the lyrics to Vanishing Point offer a sort of lifeline). Still, lots of other great songs to enjoy here; Love Less and particularly Round and Round, Guilty Partner and Dream Attack are great.

01) Fine Time - 8,5 02) All the Way - 8,0 03) Love Less - 8,0 04) Round & Round - 8,5 05) Guilty Partner - 8,0 06) Run - 8,0 07) Mr. Disco - 8,5 08) Vanishing Point - 8,5 09) Dream Attack - 8,5 TOTAL: 8,28 (83/100)

Great album. Not a bad song and a few great ones.

Fun and very acidy

So very 80's, it was a bit much at first, but it grew on me and I ended up quite enjoying it. So much synth, such a strange time in music.

Nice. Like watching an 80s movie, with only sound...

Excellent album that I bought on vinyl when it came out.

3.5 rounded up

let’s dance to new order

What a fun album!

I prefer early 80s New Order, but it's still classic & danceable.

Love me some New Order. Great songs on this one. Fun listen on a Monday morning.

Some good vibes, some interesting tunes, but nothing really hooked.

Technique is considered a precursor to dance music. It’s hard to tell. It’s really poppy, it’s really good. It’s clearly extremely influence. So much so it’s almost not notice. It’s just sounds like the music it influenced. 8.5/10

If I were to paint of picture of the album sound it would just be the album art: technicolor at times, romantic, and a high contrast between the synth and the broody melancholy of 80s new wave. I typically love the genres within the album and I like New Order but I wasn’t necessarily blown away. I probably will come back to it though 3.5

Love new order

I honestly didn't think this was that bad. I was worried seeing the reviews that this album had, but I don't mind this style of music.

Along with the Cure's Disintegration coming from the same summer, this album brings back memories of being in LA for the summer after my high school graduation, listening to KROQ with this being a new album they were promoting. I didn't know it at the time, but this album's Fine Time was essentially my first introduction to House music. All around a great album - Fine Time, Round and Round, and Vanishing Point are my favorites.

oooh yes

I'll have to listen to this one again sometime; I liked it. I listened to "Low-Life" (another New Order album) a week or so ago, and I think the production on "Technique" was much better. Songs were a bit shorter on this one, and there was a bit more variety.

New Order is a definitive 80's band. They started in the 70's as Joy Division, and after the death of Ian Curtis, the remaining band members became New Order. They have recorded music and toured since that time, but their greatest success and impact was in the 80's. Technique is the band's fifth album, and may be their most successful. It combines their punk roots and synthesizer based dance music in a set of engaging tracks. This album is the work of a great band at the height of their powers.

Have heard most of it but not all of it before.

It's alright for what it is. Too dancy tunes don't work so well with the more rock tunes.

Pues muy guay.

The best part of New Order (apart from the hard-driving bass) is the transition from the dark minor to the uplifting major - but this Balearic inspired album mostly sticks to the majors, which combined with the pure corny synth tones gives the whole thing a very candyfloss feel. Sometimes that sugar rush really hits just right though and a wave of pure 80s cocaine indie disco fever washes through your veins. The bass is just as good as ever and the choruses are really huge. His voice is so limited and he rarely pushes it beyond a very narrow range close to a speaking voice - the melodic phrasing within that is also pretty limited, but very much part of the signature New Order sound. As much as I love New Order, this isn't one of the albums I would have chosen for this list. But, they're a singles band not an albums band, but I guess you can't just include Substance, even though it really their most iconic release. Listening to it more closely than I had before, and not evaluating for what it's missing (the remants of Joy Division and post-punk), it stands on it's own very nicely and is pretty much a perfect dance rock album from this era alondside albums like Screamadelica. It's an intersting transitional album between the new romantics 80s synth pop sound and the 90s house/techno Ibiza rave thing.

classic new order.

New order never disappoints. Another great one.

I'm feeling this!! 4.

Totally digging this one! Brand new to me too. As far as 80s albums go, which I tend not to like, I’mfinding this one to be very enjoyable. Very solid entry in a genre I don’t really like… I guess that probably comes out to a 4/5 then.

"Technique" by New Order, released in 1989, is a compelling and innovative fusion of electronic and rock elements that epitomizes the band's evolution. The album carries the hallmarks of New Order's distinctive sound, blending danceable beats with melancholic undertones. Tracks like "Fine Time" and "Round & Round" exemplify the band's mastery of electronic dance music, with infectious rhythms and synth-driven melodies. The album's lyrical themes explore love, loss, and self-discovery, adding a layer of emotional depth to the pulsating beats. "Technique" not only reflects the spirit of the late '80s but also serves as a testament to New Order's ability to reinvent themselves. Its seamless integration of electronic and rock elements makes it a landmark in the band's discography. The album earns a solid 4/5 for its influential sound, catchy compositions, and enduring impact on the electronic music landscape.

Generally I prefer New Orders singles. This album still has some great tracks, and excels at a “vibe”. I think I’ll revisit, but my top 5 star New Order album is just a playlist of their best singles.

Really interesting sounds. This album is both very unique and really bland. They use some cool techniques but when they all come together all the sounds sound very similar. Round and Round is a great song. And I really liked the end of Run.

I struggled at first because the opening track doesn’t sound like the New Order I like. It’s funny that Fine Time and Round & Round seem to be the hits, because they’re my least favorite songs on this album. The rest of it is really good! Don’t love Mr. Disco. Those string stab samples or whatever throw me off. I think it’s a 4 for me. I really like a lot of New Order, but probably really like 75% of this album.

It'll always be tough to beat Joy Division for me, but damn if this album doesn't absolutely slay. The beats here are simply infectious. You can really hear how creatively revitalized they were.

Brilliant All the songs sound great. Mixture of bleep bloop and great poppy new order

Always enjoy New Order. Own this CD.

I quite liked this album. It feels more upbeat than lots of the other new order songs that I know, which does work, but I feel like it definitely isn’t where they work best. There wasn’t anything i disliked about this tho and I still thought it was really good. 4/5

Banger alert. Album started off weak but once you get to the 4th track it picks up and keeps a consistent tone. Dance music is nice and had me jamming out in my car ride home. Stop putting random British rock songs in this album though. 8/10

New Order is definitely in my top 10 most listened to bands of all time. With that said I have listened to this album only a couple times as I really enjoy their earlier works a lot more. Some songs capture the synth dance rock sound that I love from New Order like ‘Round & Round’ while others start to move away to a different sound entirely. My favorite bits were the sections when the singing stopped and instrumentals took center stage. Although I don’t believe this album stands up to their other albums, I still fancied it quite a bit. A few of these songs might find there way into my playlist. 8/10

I really enjoyed this. Right up my alley.

I love this. Playful dance music. Listen to this with headphones. Fun with stereo. Crunchy crunchy bass really pops the sound into 3d.

This is a really good new order album but i like power, corruption & lies better

It was good. Not my favorite of theirs.

Nice album, easy listen, pleasant, only left a slight impression. Songs kind of blend together but at least it's not a bad sound. My favorite track was "All the Way".

Pretty good pop album. Didn’t dislike anything. Had some nice hooks. Favorite track: All the Way.

Great album. Very summer-sounding.

I liked it more than Closer by Joy Division, good beats and captures "new wave" sound very well

Really enjoyable, even without knowing too much about the band or listening to them little. Something interesting is how their sound is so far from Joy Division and even other albums that they made?

I think I’m only familiar with a few New Order songs, none of which are here on this album. I think I’m slightly more familiar with Joy Division, although I wouldn’t say I’m particularly knowledgeable there either. Regardless, this is 80’s synth pop so I’m looking forward to listening! Songs I already knew: none Favourites: Round & Round, Run This is exactly what I expected from this album. Plenty of synth and electric drums, and a music you could imagine might have sounded quite futuristic back in the 80’s. I will say that I found I enjoyed the music most when there were no vocals. I wouldn’t even say the vocals are bad, but I enjoyed the music by itself without the singing more than I did with them. Overall, still an enjoyable album.

Just great! I can feel the sunshine vibes and the confluence of instruments and synth make a happy, upbeat dance-rock album. The re-release of the album featured World in Motion - best football anthem ever (sorry, Three Lions). That on its own is a belter.

Of the many reasons I like this project, helping me clarify and distinguish the great 80s electronic bands is definitely a main one.

This album is best when it's unbearably New Order. Like, just going full-on 1980s electronic cheese. Give me those thin drums and goofy synthlines or give me death. While the jangle pop and baggy influences are just fine... come on. You can't beat songs like Round and Round, Vanishing Point or Dream Attack. *orchestra hit* *orchestra hit* *orchestra hit* *orchestra hit* *orchestra hit* 3.5/5

All the Way, Love Less, Guilty Partner (best song), Mr. Disco, Vanishing Point and Dream Attack. I disavow the other electronic albums on this list. This is better. Non offensive length.

Catchy album, way better than Joy Division.

viel beep boop baap elektronik aber war cool und dieses mal auch nicht so lang, paar songs auf jeden fall in die playlist

This album goes so hard, there’s a few songs I don’t really care about but all the others make up for it. So good.

I don’t like British electronica but I love New Order.

I actually quite enjoyed this: alright the album cover was poor and when I saw New Order I wasn't the most excited but I was pleasantly surprised. The first track was following my original thoughts but it then developed into the jangly guitar and gave me hints to the smiths and the cure. Overall I may have to listen to this album some more.

Hard one to rate, there were some nice tunes. Nice work music

I actually didn’t mind it! I don’t think I’d go out of my way to listen to it but I loved certain songs and how groove/vibey it is.

I’ve heard this album before and it is great. Love how 80s it is. 8 or 9/10 depending on the day

easy listening

New Order close out the 80s with an album both spiky and dreamy. Not something they’d ever really done before.

A gorgeous inventive and fun album from New Order. I love this a lot Vanishing Point is a highlight. It is so deliciously 80s while also somehow being extremely cool to me? Normally those two things don't go together in my head. Listened twice, good opportunity to dust this off. Love the album artwork too!

Outrageous to have two of Luke's faves in a row. Familiar with quite a lot from this album anyway, not necessarily all my favourite New Order songs but still I think a certified K Town Banger A great mood lifter

I really liked this. The most I've enjoyed New Order apart from the obvious banger hits.

Incredible production quality, and impressively wide in terms of genres incorporated in the music. Really feels like a defining album for the time. It combines different styles very well, so well that it sounds like it may have been an inspiration for both daft punk and REM. However, some parts may come off as a bit generic (especially the vocals in certain songs), though that might be because this album was indeed very influential. Regardless, it doesn't feel right to give 5/5 for an album that isn't perfect

Groovy 89 summer vibes. Beats are very funky but so chill at the same time. Underrated album.

More "ibiza" than I expected, but still good, opening track worried me a bit but picked up after that

Always a sucker for 80s synth beats

Eins og flest annað frá New Order, þá er þetta gott stöff. Signature sándheimurinn stendur alltaf fyrir sínu.

Enjoyable album after a false start.

I can listen to synth pop all day

I really, really enjoyed this album. I had never heard of New Order before but I am a sucker for house music type beats and this one had plenty. Every song had a really great beat and felt very, very '80s synth pop, which I loved. Standouts were Fine Time, Round & Round, Mr. Disco and Dream Attack.

This album was a really fun listen. I know a little about New Order and while listening I looked up this album because the back and forth between their more House/Dance music sound and their post punk Joy Division sound was really intriguing and it seams like they were two separate recording locations and times recorded and this gives the album a really unique sound as a whole. Bought the album on CD after listening to it. All in all a really fun and unique album. Would recommend and completely understand what makes it significant. Only reason it is a 4 out of 5 is because the individual track are all very good but none of them stand out as being really amazing but my opinion could change on more listens.

Super cool album. Would not be out of place in the 2010s Brooklyn electro pop scene. Cool 80s vibe rather than cheesy.

Just amazing how this band came up from the ashes of Joy Division and delivered such great music and managed to continue to be innovative and groundbreaking. This album blended post punk with electro dance and it worked so well. There is a lot to like and decipher here, it gets better with repeated listens.

Moody dance music. Feels in the same vein as the Cure and Depeche Mode. Rock-influenced, electronic, synth dance music. Typically not a huge fan of the 80s but I can revisit this numerous times. Standpoints from my opinion. -All the Way -Round & Round -Mr. Disco -Vanishing Point -Dream Attack

Pretty good one. Very 80's electronic sound which occasionally departs into some more acoustic new wave tracks. It wasn't all my thing because I find a lot of this 80's stuff quite corny but I did certainly enjoy those house-y tracks. It's not got Blue Monday though, so I suspect this won't be my favourite New Order album. Favourite: Vanishing Point

Despite lacking the mega hits of their other albums, New Order once again hits it out of the ball park with an innovative and engaging synthpop record, this time merging heavily with the rising rave scene in its acid house beats and rhythm. It's fun to dance to, catchy to sing along to, and full of heavy complex melodies also suitable for home listening. Kept the energy and excitement throughout the whole record with no low points. Favorites: Love Less, Guilty Partner, Vanishing Point

8/10 would listen again

Interesting how this was almost directly following the Joy Division album. The band sure has changed. This was a solid genre album.

BUENARDOOOOOO 8.5/10

Like The Cure decided to do experimental dance. Pretty fun!

I have been meaning to get into Joy Division / New Order for a lifetime - and not because I don't like them - I don't seem to have found the right record. This one comes close for me to like it - probably because it occupies the same space as the Cure for me, which band I love. With no disrespect to either band they do tend to overlap at times, and I find it a good thing here. This record gets me closer to warming up to New Order I guess, so it's favourable.

it took a couple songs for me to get into it but i actually really enjoyed most of this album

This album was really cool. Perfect balance of instrumentation and enhancing it through electronic sounds. Favorite track: Mr. Disco

The huge transformation of a band. From the ashen dark wave in 1981 to the acid house in the late 1989's. This is what the new drugs can do and how to keep the 24 hour party people partying. This even was recorded in Ibiza - center of house music. Some really great songs on here, amongst some lesser ones. 'Vanishing Point' lifts this album up an entire point, and 'Fine Time,' 'Round, Round' and 'Mr. Disco' put down a solid base.

I’ve always low key enjoyed New Order. This was a good listen.

it was pretty decent for early indie type music

Frescura pop de principio a fin, muy disfrutable

didn’t like at first but actually alright

En 1989 nacio taylor Esta bueno, muy ochentoso

Entretenido

New Division.

This one was very very fun. I enjoyed the mix of house music and straight up rock and roll more than I anticipated.

I really enjoyed this and will likely listen to more of them. Jesus and Mary Chain has been the group I’ve listened to most since hearing it here. This will probably end up number two. Feel like it’s missing that one killer song.

Super. New Order going all in on dance electronica

Njihov najklupskiji album

Pretty baller man. Felt the groove of the late 80s pulsing through my veins.

Do prefer Joy Division but that was something Ian Curtis made so good. As good as it gets without Ian Curtis though

4 stars. This was significantly better and more listenable than I thought it would be. Most of the other beat/ house music on this list has been…. Not great. definitely enjoyed this though.

I liked it

We've been told for years to respect New Order because they were a band created from the ashes of Joy Division, and I've resisted only to thumb my nose at a music press trying to tell me what to do with my life. So it turns out...I like New Order now? This thing is filled with bangers clocking in at a nice clip, just under 40 minutes. I still regret nothing, but now there's a big party of me that believes 20 year old would have landed some nice pussy if only I had been into New Order. But it's never too late. Time to go work a little skirt. I'm sure my wife will understand. I'll play this album for her.

One of the greatest of all time. Totally unique for its time. Classic

Made me remember why I liked new order after a very disappointing live gig.

It is fucking baffling to me that this band began the decade as the dour post-punk band Joy Division and ended it with this album, which starts out like a fucking acid house album and then settles down into a very solid early alternative rock album. It's good that they continued on after Ian Curtis's death and the end of Joy Division, because having a band with punk rock bona fides helping to pioneer the origins of electronic music. It's a very strange experience hearing an album that fits pretty well into the alternative rock of the late 80s but has little bursts of electronic dance music embedded in it. It's something that has the potential to be very cheesy, but the band executes it well. It's a really cool album that merges two genres that were on very different trajectories in the late 80s, but that were both about to come to the forefront in the 90s 4/5

08/30/2022 It’s New Order. Immediately four stars. — Casual day, nothing big happened. Just waiting for the weekend…

Very good as background music to almost everything I would say. I liked it.

7/10. Largely pleasant, some kinda cool bits too

Weird that Joy Division turned into New Order because this sounds nothing like Unknown Pleasure or Closer. Still, I actually like the electronic vibes and would listen to it again. 8/10

Very sweet album. Deep m, heavy house beats and good instrumentation to surround them. Only complaint is the vocals are kinda whack and awkward. 7/10

Prefs: All The Way, Round & Round, Guilty Partner, Run, Vanishing Point, Dream Attack Moins pref: Love Less

New Order doing New Order things. At their best when the drum machine is kicking and the production is filled with tons of samples. Individual tracks go in just a bit too many directions which makes the record lose a bit of focus.

I’d forgotten how much this album at times screams Ibiza! Quite often it sounds like a band struggling to realize wether they are a dance or rock-band. I mean - going from “Love Less” to “Round & Round” is a surreal move. But at the same time it never fails to keep me engaged entertained. Maybe Hook’s melodic bass-lines are making me feel generous!

I like new order. I like their album artwork for this. This is a nice listen so far, I like the vibe of love less. Feels very nostalgic, like this could be playing over my memories. overall this was good, love less is my favorite one from this, I got distracted with work so I wasn't as in depth listening but I already knew I enjoyed new order. I'll listen to the singles again since they didn't leave an impression on me. This is their dance album.

I mean. This is great right? It's dancey and alternative. Can't get enough. It's the more eclectic, more electronic, child of Joy Division. It works. It just works. - "But it sounds kitchy sometimes, Mr. Disco has literal pew pew sounds!" - "well that's just what the future sounded like in the 80s!" My favorite New Order song will always be Age of Consent.

Lots of fun

A great New Order album. It's got some great singles and that unforgettable 80s sound that you can't mistake. I mostly prefer Brotherhood overall but I love how punchy this one sounds.

Strong 4 stars. Liked this much better than Joy Division. 80s fueled beats and synth tones.

Technique is the fifth album by English electronic rock band New Order. This album was influenced by acid house and the band incorporated this into their dance rock sound. It has that electronic synth sound from the 80's paired with a rock band that gives this album an interesting vibe. I do like the summery sound that the album gives off. This has been rated one of the best New Order albums and is considered a classic in the dance rock genre. The quality of synchrony between rock and electronic dance on this album is something I did not expect. It's so well done that this album could've been produced today and it would still perform well. There's a lot to love about this album, and not much to hate.

Late career New Order still positively wonderful

Pues muy guay

This is an album of two distinct sounds. Light indie-style guitar-led songs, and then songs full of synths, samples and programmed beats. It’s like catching New Order in the middle transitioning from one style to another. This makes the album all the more interesting to listen to, as you are surprised when the style changes so suddenly. The singer has a very pleasant voice full of character and very nicely produced. There’s a few samples that sounds a bit raw and dated, but in the end, a very nice album. 7/10

Not big into the synth stuff, but this was alright

Cet album m'a permis de réaliser que je suis fan de synthpop.

I love New Order! But I had not payed too much attention to Technique. I listened it twice I really liked it. It sounds authentic for the end of the 80s. A perfect mix of synthesizers with delicious melodies.

Always nice to listen to New Order. Barney Sumner's voice is just flat and crap and beautiful.

listen

Awesome beeps and boops

Sorry, but I’m raising the average on this one. I liked it! Even listened to it twice! It doesn’t contain my favorite New Order songs, but still… I’m here for the new wave this year. I don’t know what’s happening to me.

Love New Order. This album doesn't have the hits you usually hear on New Wave radio. That make it even better.

Was good, not sure what I was listening to though.

They have transferred a velvety, romantic style into the techno era. Simply nice (7/10) FT: Round & Round, Vanishing Point

An excellent collection of dance tracks, jangle rock, melancholy meditations, and a variety of synth and instrument music. It feels like it has a symbiotic relationship with other bands of the era, like the Cure, Duran Duran, Echo & the Bunnymen, and Talking Heads. The non-single tracks are as good or better than their counterparts.

That uplifting New Order sound is in full effect here - an electronic band who play their instruments with a relaxed Sumner vocal. I really enjoyed the soundscape - you could float away to it. Summer vibes abound. Run and Vanishing Point the highlights.

Steht New Order drauf und das ist auch drin.

Great. Smooth tunes.

goodshit plata

Superb road trip vibes.

Glad to say I enjoyed this one much more than the previous New Order album (Low-Life). This one had a clearer point of view. Still had a hard time telling one song from another but liked it anyway.

I heard the first track, Fine Time, which sounds like a Stock, Aitken, Waterman instrumental. Throw some Kylie vocals over the top and it's 1986. No thank you. Then comes, "All The Way," which threw me back to The Cure doing Inbetween Days. The rest of the album has me in a happy '80s place, hearing echoes of The Go-Betweens, Depeche Mode, and smidgens of The Smiths. I've always thought of New Order as innovators, now I'm hearing them as musical Bower Birds: collecting shiny things that turn into something that is very attractive.

Rien de particulier, mais on est là quoi.

Juste envie de clubber en fait.

entraînant pour partir au travail👍

Very very good stuff, as is to be expected from New Order in the 1980s

surprised me too

Way better than I expected (only knew their singles). Some real standout tracks (Love Less, Round & Round, Guilty Partner)

This is fun and danceable but overall not my cup of tea. God, make me wanna go to Ibiza and party to tunes like these.

This is the type of New Order I like!

Really good

Pang pAng!!

Enjoyable synthy indie. Some cool sounds in there, and a sheep

Really liked this album and the way they introduced sound into music. That whole genre is great.

Never been much of a New Order fan outside a few singles. They've never been that good when seen them live either. Picked this up in an op shop on CD for $1. Loved it. Subsequently bought it on vinyl. Their best album.

Not quite Substance, but still a good listen

Goed eighties synth

I should not have slept on this band

Dance/techno/pop, liked it.

Really good this. I always thought it was impressive how different they sound to Joy Division but never really gave them a chance as an album band

Not bad.

Leuke pop-muziek. ****

Loved it. a tight, high energy 80s pop record where synth collides with guitar.

First of all New Order runs circles around Joy Division, and they give The Smiths a run for their money in terms of moody Brit new wave. This is a solid record with good beats, melodic songs, and a good dance rock album. Definitely not my genre of choice, but I like the sound of this one!

This is pretty great! Haven't heard this album before. I'm hit or miss on whether I like New Wave stuff. I did like this one. Was this before or after Blue Monday? I don't know.

Enjoyed more than I thought I would, especially after the first track, which was the lowlight for me. I do not know who did the song Dream Attack and thought, these guys remind me a ton of those guys. Turns out they are the same guys.

Classic New Order - excellent album

80's classic synth

A fusion of rock and house music that was obviously well ahead of its time. The entire album is lively and energetic. There are pure dance music tracks on this album, acid-house tracks and dynamics, and alternative pop tracks as well. Favorite tracks: Fine Time, Love Less, Round & Round, Mr. Disco, Dream Attack

I am a sucker for new wave so I loved it, had multiple relistens.

Oh, this is great. I'm realizing that somehow, I managed not to hear this whole album over the years. I say this as someone who voraciously consumed New Order's earlier albums when they came out, as someone who has seen them live. I think it's a matter of timing really. By 1989 I had probably moved on to other things and I wasn't particularly aware of this one. Boy, do I feel dumb now. I still hold Power, Corruption and Lies as New Order's greatest album, a personal favorite. But let's be real, this is album is really close, among their best. The band is actually better at this point than they were when PC&L came out. They really mastered the technical aspects of their sound and pulled together a cohesive, compelling collection of songs. I've been reading Peter Hook's book and let me tell you, the band was not in good shape at this point. You really can't tell from listening that they were not playing together as a band and were heading in the direct of a split. That signature sound is there, that perfect melding of the acoustic with the electronic. No one does that as well as New Order. Practically every song is a winner. Well, I've got 32 years’ worth of catch up listening to do this one, so off I go. Fave Songs: All the Way, Love Less, Round and Round, Run, Mr. Disco

yeah pretty good, a few on there i knew that i never realised where new order

Some pretty solid synth pop! I think if I listened to this when I was like 14, I really would have loved it, but as it is, I just liked it. Very good, though. I'll keep it in my mind next time I'm in an 80s synth pop mood.

this was fun. interesting to hear them holding on to the 80s sound as the 90s so rapidly approached. 1989 was, as i recall, a tough year for pop music. things were about to change, but hadn't yet...and in that time of waiting, almost everything just sounded kinda tired and bored. this album doesn't suffer from that nearly so much as others of the same age, but you can just hear the need for something - anything - to break loose.

A typical late 80's Dance album by Manchester's finest

I liked the sound. Good background music. Pretty chill.

As bassist Peter Hook said: "Technique [is] not an Ibizan dance record". It perfectly shows how to incorporate rock in synthpop and visa versa. A true classic.

LIked it! Will listen again.

Ritmes balears de finals dels 80, noves idees per la banda que els hi senten genial. Un disc molt de l'època però que curiosament encara sona fresc. 'Round & Round' és un dels seus millors temes

This is the first album with an "acid house" label that I've actually enjoyed. Best track: Run

"Parasites and literasites They'd burn me if they can" (All the way) "The picture you see is no portrait of me It's too real to be shown to someone I don't know And it's driving me wild It makes me act like a child" (Round n round) "Ibiza, Majorca, and Benidorm too I've searched all these places but never found you." (Mr Disco) "Nothing in this world can touch the music that I've heard When I woke up this morning" (Dram Attack) bisexual rights

This was an odd one to me. How they bounce back and forth from electronic to Brit pop makes it not a cohesive album for me. I prefer the Brit pop songs over the electronic.

Cool stuff. Didn't know what was coming next. I owe this album more listens

80s mate
