Reviews (page 2 of 7)

Good god I fucking love this album.

This album totally rules. If you don’t head bang at least a little bit to this, I can’t trust you.

First time listening. Awesome. Incredible how something so loud and dissonant can also be catchy/punchy. Loved it.

Day875 - a top 250 album. punk at its best

It's really a shame that the first two seven inches aren't included in this list, especially since they're bundled together now. I honestly think they're better. But this is still Minor Threat. Can't talk about hardcore or punk without talking about Minor Threat or Ian. Classic, historic, and worth everyone of of those five rankings.

Short and transformative

Hell yeah

Better than Coldplay

GxOxAxTxHxC

Excellent hardcore punk album. They clearly paved the way for a ton of bands. It's too bad their output was so little!

Fantastic album full of angst, energy and feeling. You can hear the influence these guys have gone on to have on bands ranging from Gorilla Biscuit and Scream to Bad Religion and The Offspring. The highlights were the strong opener Betray, and the final two tracks, Out of Step and Cashing in. Would give 6 stars, but it has one of the worst sounding kick drum sounds out there, like they were using a plastic chopping board. So only 5 out 5 stars.

Minor Threat definitely shaped punk to come for decades.

Absolute perfection in just over 20 minutes. Hardcore punk with a melodic edge, yet still angry. This is the most influential album on the list for me. 5 🐑

If you were rating these albums purely based on how well they achieved what they set out to achieve this is an automatic five. 40 plus years later this is still the hardcore punk rosetta stone. Musically this sound - short, fast, loud, angry - is replicated by countless bands to this day. Lyrically the themes, which are so perfectly summed up in the album title, are the ultimate expression of a certain subset of 'angry young man' poetry. Essential and undeniable if you have even a passing interest in modern punk rock.

Great hardcore album.

At least I can fucking think.

Fuckin' love me some classic punk. Solid 5 Stars.

I’m at a 4.5 that I’ll bump up to a 5. 21 minutes and 40 seconds of lightning fast punk rock. It’s snotty as hell, thoughtfully angry, unapologetically loud, and it’s right down my fucking alley. This album feels like a preview of the more manically paced / experimental albums that would emerge through the rest of the ‘80s & would be especially refined by the ‘90s. The only reason this is at a 4.5 is just because it’s a little same-y in terms of the actual soundscape (aka insanely fast drums & guitar riffs for miles), but it’s got a lot of variety within it to keep it fresh. Ian MacKaye’s vocals work well here; he would obviously go on to greater success with Fugazi, but his venom-filled disdain gives this album an edge that really makes it work, anchoring & channeling all the nearly off-rails instrumental chaos into a package that manages to be concise & tight. There’s really not much to say; everyone plays their part & their instruments perfectly, and since it’s such a short album / EP, it’s just worth fucking listening to it compared to whatever I could type about it. I’m glad it’s on the list, it’s deserving of the acclaim, and it’s an easy bump up to a 5. Really, really fun stuff.

Minor Threat embodies a lot of what people like about punk rock. It's fast, it's aggressive, it's best played loud, and it is music with youth bursting from it's seams. On Out of Step, is a great snapshot of music on the microlevel as Minor Threat takes on D.C. scene politics, but also furthers their musical ambitions with more diverse songwriting. It's not so different from what they were doing years before, but this change marks a notable shift away from the Hardcore scene.

A+ punk album. I had no idea about the background and influence of this group until I read up on them after listening. Will listen again

Lo que estuve esperando para que me salga un disco como la gente. Esto es música de verdad viejo, Ian es el más grande, y ni hablar del impacto que tuvo. Dicho esto me gusta más su otro EP, pero igualmente este está muy bien.

Listened Before? Y I'll keep this short like the songs on the record: Absolutely iconic and influential, just like everything else by the band. Classic and probably perfect hardcore punk. Added to Library: Y Songs added to playlist: Betray

Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray! Betray!

Minor Threat made Hardcore. Ian MacKaye goes on to form Embrace, inventing Emo. Emo activates Gerard Way to get into Music. Gerard Way starts My Chemical Romance after witnessing 9/11. Inspired by MCR, Stephanie Meyer writes the Twilight series. Twilight is adapted to film. Kristen Stewart invites Ellen to.............. It's good.

Nema fugaziija bez minor threath, jel sve malo preadolscenski s visoka apsolutno, ali je puno energije

I'm not gonna gripe about this being the wrong list pick for Minor Threat, or how widely misunderstood this band is. Instead I'll just say this record totally rips and underground American punk scenes wouldn't be what they are without Minor Threat.

I noticed that some in our group gave this a pretty low rating before listening to it, but I really enjoyed this. On only 1 listen, I think this is my favorite punk we've had so far. The bassist was insane, and I love the 20-min framework for this album.

Salad Days is definitely my favourite Minor Threat album (do I even call them albums?), but this still rocks. Some retard complained in the top reviews that there was no melodies in this album despite this being Minor Threats 'poppiest' record. Eat dirt mate.

Sick album cover. Only 21 minutes but I suppose if it lasted any longer, it wouldn't be as good? Pure aggression, non-stop energy, I was locked in for the entire thing. Go and google why these guys broke up. You will probably think it's artistic differences but you will never guess over what. Highlights: Betray, Look Back and Laugh, No Reason, Cashing In

л е г е н д ы

Gutterly Goated, or Sheeped 😏

This album is pure punk, loud, messy, short, to the point🤘

Classic!

This is it. The finest band in hardcore punk - the most important the very least. And yeah, I get it - the website is technically an album generator. But everyone knows this spot really belongs to Minor Threat’s complete discography (which is still shorter and crisper than most bloated ’90s records, from a time when labels pushed artists to cram as much music - be it good or be it terrible - possible onto a CD). Minor Threat might not have the swagger of Bad Brains or a frontman with the raw charisma of Henry Rollins (of course, Ian MacKaye is an icon in his own right), but they wear their hearts on their sleeves and they’ve got these sharp f@*king hooks and riffs. I mean, if you don’t instantly wanna yell along to lyrics such as „we don’t care, we don’t pose, we’ll steal your money, we’ll steal your shows” (Cashing In) it’s your bad. This record still hits hard and hasn’t lost any of its magic in those nearly 45 years. If you listen to just one hardcore punk band, make it this one. And if you think this iteration of hardcore punk isn’t your cup: “Think again, think again … ignorance, it sets your standards“ (Think Again). Man, I wish I’d been in D.C. during the heyday of Dischord Records.

If it's Nice, play it twice. Eller 4 gange. Det her var fedt. Og kort! Hardcore, og punk.

Holy moly

Punk Rock

Easy 5, an absolute classic and so influential.

One of the best hardcore punk albums I've listened to. There's a great energy that can be felt in each song, but it never goes too far into chaotic/overstimulating. One of the first punk albums that I actually wish was longer, since every song is very enjoyable

It's good stuff, it's got good charisma Will I listen to again: 100%

I mean, DC's very own Minor Threat have always been one of my favorite hardcore bands, rivaled only by groups like the Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains. But I've always been a bigger fan of their first two 7-Inches as opposed to this sole LP in their discography. Those are two genuine masterpieces in the world of young, rebellious, noisy, and fast punk music. This album, on the other hand, always felt a bit more polished - the guitar playing a bit more flashy and predictive of later post-hardcore bands like Fugazi. It still has that youthful ferocity though, especially in MacKaye's vocals, it sounds like a bridge between the earlier Minor Threat releases, and the more melodic and emotional nature his proto-emocore band, Embrace, would go in. He's clearly already getting sick of the meathead-ridden and ultra-masculine direction the scene he helped prop up was going in. Ian's pissed here, and it's awesome. While I don't enjoy this as much as those first Minor Threat EPs, this whole thing is still ruthlessly kickass. I love the squealing scratchiness of the guitar in the second half of the opener 'Betray', and that bass break on 'Think Again' is so crunchy (a comment that applies to most of the bass playing here). The riff on 'Look Back & Laugh' sounds right out of the late '70s DK playbook. And the title track (re-interpreted from their 'In My Eyes' EP) is quite literally just 'Straight Edge' part 2, in the best way possible. The closer here is one of my favorite Minor Threat songs; it's easily the funniest and most on-the-nose thing here. It's also just stupidly catchy. I mean, it's this genre at its source and its prime. There is absolutely nothing to hate here - you don't get 20-minute albums this rad every day.

I love punk. This album reminds me of black flag and honestly, I’ve never really listened to minor threat, though I know they are pretty big in the scene. Overall, strong album especially if you’re from California. Punk and rap is totally So Cal.

Fucking fire

Guillaume le sait. Je suis un grand admirateur de Ian MacKaye. Dans le livre ''Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground, 1981–1991'', Michael Azerrad consacre un chapitre sur Minor Threat et un autre sur Fugazi. Je conseille.

Difficile d’être plus influent dans le monde du punk et hardcore punk! Il y a un temps et une place pour ce genre de musique. Mais dans mon cas j’avais du char à faire alors c’était parfait! Look back and laugh, classique. Cashing In, drôle. Think Again, beau solo de bass. Meilleur que the Germs, notre seul comparatif punk. 5/5!

The blueprint for a lot of hardcore to follow. One of the most influential records for hard and heavy music.

A cut driven with such intensity and relatability.

It’s strange to me that a 21 minute EP would be on this list, but this is seminal hardcore that would go on to birth all this MacKaye.

It’s like getting punched in the face, but somehow you’re into it.

A pretty perfect hardcore record and one of my absolute favorite bands from that era. I regret never seeing them live.

A great hardcore album. Fast with high energy. I've only listened to this before as part of the Complete Discography release.

One of the best to ever do the whole hardcore thing. I don't know if I ever listened to just this album, I think I just always listen to the complete discography. But 22 minutes of angry, passionate, and in your face music.

I enjoyed this album. Typically, my punk band was Dead Kennedys, but found this to my liking. I will listen to the album again!

A straightforward sonic assault. The energy and lyrical content are just fantastic.

So I was driving home from dancing at the goth bar last night (it is about 40 miles away because I am a simple country bumpkin) and I'd already listened to yesterday's album on the way 2 work so I put this on, not knowing what it would be at all! I know I've heard of the name Minor Threat but I could not have told you just what genre they were, what decade they're from, etc etc. As the music started playing I realized it was exactly what I needed in the moment... Trying desperately not to doze off on the highway and determine whether the two Chargers in front of me were cops, all while maintaining a normal speed of 5-10mph above the speed limit is not easy in the dead of night on these woefully banked turns. Thank heavens for these screaming little men! It felt like years had passed every time I looked at the runtime of the album, but car console would only read small increments like "2:30," "5:43," and "10:59." Genuine sorrow ran through me when the time ran out and there was no more Step to be out of. I was never really a punk growing up but occasionally in I would latch onto random albums here and there depending on the level of angst I was feeling. This one seems like it would've been perfect just for that. Lyrically it is just as juvenile and self-reflexive as you might expect from a 21 year old who would one day go bald. Overall I think you can tell this one is definitely "Classic Hardcore" material... So many a local show (like 2) I've attended just seems derivative of this. Angry stuff is fun :) Gazing off into the distance ahead of me, white and red taillights flickering in and out like we were all driving across a vast concrete ocean, I imagined I was a child, who had never even heard of punk, coming across this album pre-internet. How exciting that must have been for anyone who did experience that! THX Minor Threat XOXO

Five stars obviously.

Play it faster…

makes me want to sit on a porch with a dog or sweat in a basement or run through a brick wall.

This band grabs you by the throat and laughs in your face and then pumps you full of adrenaline. Hopefully we hit the first 2 eps album but if not this was a welcome surprise.

Minor Threat is sweet for sure, but I don't think characterizing any of their releases as an "album" is accurate. That being said, this rips, just as I was expecting it would. Seminal.

everything you want in a hardcore punk album. Fast, aggressive, and doesn't overstay its welcome

Балдежный бодрый панк. Послушал на одном дыхании, просто какой-то турбокайф. Жаль, что очень короткий, но блин, как же это хорошо!!!

Hell yeah dude minor threat rips, this one's a classic

Nice short album

Shades of the ruts, bits of dead kennedys and a splash of killing joke.. and not a clicktrack anywhere to be seen.. Fuckin loved it.

Stepping out. Punk greatness.

What a wonderful perfect 10 album from my youth. Still holds up.

Listening to this album I thought it not out of the ordinary but then I looked at the release date and they were ahead of the times.

I haven’t listened to this album in years and that’s a damn shame. As good as it gets in the genre.

In every art form or genre there is an artists that defines the culture. In rock climbing, this was Royal Robbins or Yvon Chouinard. In Jazz, its Miles Davis. In punk, its Ian MacKaye. And while Ian did that again and again with many bands, it all started with Minor Threat. I can totally empathize with someone who listens to this one time and absolutely hates it. When I first heard this record in 9th Grade, I couldn't understand why it didn't sound like blink-182 or even the more raw sounding Rancid. Its brash, heavy, aggressive in ways that most bands at the time weren't. Even the hardcore bands that I grew up with had high production values and effects behind their vocals to make the screams more palpable. This record is so raw, but I think its absolute perfection. Its the turning point of punk music. It's about something. It's social, politics, ethics, morals. They were truly trying to say something and define something in this music, and they did it in a way that most artists at the time couldn't. This is an essential album for anyone that enjoys punk in its various forms.

Didn’t even have to listen to this one…..but I did! Loved this album and band since high school. Angry, brash, loud, and awesome. And some hidden melodic elements too, which made it different from some of the other bands of the era. This is the smart punk Henry Rollins wishes he could have come up with! Love Cashin’ In. Always thought it leaned towards what Fugazi would end up doing.

Essential

Overall: 10/10 If anybody ever asks me to describe hardcore punk to them, I'm just going to take them to the nearest music store and buy them this album. The vocals are perfect, the riffs are aggressive and the drums are classic punk rock. Plus, it's an incredibly short album so you can listen to it sooooo many times in one day. In fact, you can listen to Minor Threat's entire discography in less than an hour! Fav Song: Think Again Least Fav Song: Sob Story

Quentesential hard punk. All fat trimmed, only righteous anger and powerful sound remain

How do you do, don’t figure we’ve met. My names Ian, and I’m from Minor Threat. Out of Step is a great sobriety song

круто

Kicks so much ass. Every band member is on their A-game here. Constant forward momentum over a brief 21 minutes. Probably could have put the complete discography compilation on the list.

5/5 Consistently memorable riffs, great change ups and a solid sound produce an amazing album. The rawness and realness is refreshing, as well as the shortness and simplicity. Betray 4.5/5 It Follows 4.5/5 Think Again 4.5/5 Look Back & Laugh 4.5/5 Sob Story 5/5 (FAV) No Reason 5/5 Little Friend 5/5 Out Of Step 4.5/5 (LEAST FAV) Cashing In 5/5

No surprise i already love everything Minor Threat since Fugazi is maybe my favourite band of all time. I think a lot of their best songs are all on the EP's they did, but this is fantastic all the way through too.

wow I like this! I always adore hardcore punk and this album's cool as hell! No single melody found (in a praiseworthy way)! They did release it in 1983, so I guess this made them the pioneer for hardcore sound? Admirable! What an incredible ride, I truly love this. 5/5. The album cover is a work of art too. Iconic.

Wow, such an iconic sound without me having ever heard of them. Sounds like The Offspring, but a decade earlier. This album is fast and gone in a blink, but it's very memorable. It's fast punk, an evolution on what The Ramones and The Clash did the previous decade. Really an incredible album. Betray is great.

Out of Step is the sole studio album by Minor Threat, originally released in 1983. I'm a huge fan of the first 2 seven inches by Minor Threat, but I never got around to hearing this one until now. This is way more melodic than their first efforts. It's a pretty big progression. It's also a bit more polished production-wise. That may seem antithetical to the punk movement but it really works with these songs. This record is definitely a more mature effort from the group. I would probably pick the first 2 seven inches to be included on this list, but you really can't go wrong with this album. It's a truly important recording in hardcore punk history.

Another one that passed me by back in the day. So glad to discover it here. Normally I don’t really like hardcore. But this is the singer from Fugazi. And this record is well produced. You can actually enjoy listening. There’s no denying the importance of this record.

Hardcore in it's purest form: loud, fast, perfectly controlled riffs and screamed-yelped vocals. An incredible artifact of the do it yourself + anyone can do it ethos.

Enjoyed it very much!

Fast loud and noisy - I just wish it was longer!

Not only the music was influential, but also the message. Still sounds angry and energetic by today's standards, unlike a lot of other old "angry" and "energetic" albums (Bad Brains, Iron Maiden for example). Favorite song: No Reason

Heck yeah. Wish I listened to this more in my youth.

Very good, very influential. I’m sorry I just don’t want to write these things sometimes.

One of the albums that started the hardcore scene. How can you dislike anything Ian Mackaye did and call yourself a punk? It comes fast, makes a statement and leaves quick… the blueprint of this movement.

Incredibly influential on all the pop punk I listen to, can hear a lot of offspring in this. It's great in it's own right though, has the wry, sardonic lyrics that most my favourite bands have. Ian MacKaye is the most principled man in music and though I think Fugazi are more interesting, in 1983 this must have been revolutionary. This album doesn't get close to outstaying it's welcome, very easy to put on repeat. 4.5.

OMG ONE OF MY FAV ALBUMS ALREADY!!!!!

I want to tell you a little story 'Cause it makes me warm inside It's about some friends growing up And all the things they tried I'm not talking about staple shit They went for something more I guess it was too much dreaming Too much to hope for One day something funny happened But it scared the shit out of me Their heads went in different directions And their friendship ceased to be I'm telling you I want it to work I don't like being hurt Something's not right inside And I can't always put it aside What can we do, what can we do? Try I guess I make it too much shit Someday we'll look back and laugh Mr. President, go away Come back and fuck with us some other day Mr. Feelings, run and hide You have no right to what you feel inside Motherfuckers, quick to kiss Talk your shit, but don't fuck with this All I want to know is Am I holding on? Am I moving on? What can we do, what can we do? TRY Look at those assholes, ordinary fucking people. I hate 'em. - Repo Man 5/5

A great one today. Short, dramatically. Influencing, and really good sounding. I learned that the entire straight edge culture came from this band who only had one 20 minute album. Also this sounds like early offspring, so that's cool

1/2 of the iconic Häagen-Dazs Duo. One of the best to ever do it

Absolute genius :) Ian Mackaye is one of my idols and this was a perfect perfect record

I dig it! Nice surprise.

"Out of Step" is the only studio album by American hardcore punk band Minor Threat. It is noted as being a critical release in punk rock, influencing the grunge, post-hardcore, skate punk and the thrash metal musical genres and the youth crew (straight edge - no drugs or alcohol) subgenre of hardcore punk. The lyrics have themes of self reflection, youth frustration, personal problems and difficulties with friendships. Minor Threat is Ian MacKaye (lead vocals), Lyle Preslar (lead guitar), Brian Baker (rhythm guitar), Steve Hansgen (bass) and Jeff Nelson (drums). Fast guitar slashes open "Betray." The band kicks in. MacKaye screaming about frienships changing. Dual guitars and the band gets groovy then goes back to thrash. At three-minutes, it is one of the longest songs on the album. We get a bass start in "It Follows." The thrashing guitars. All the things that MacKaye didn't like (cliques, herd mentality, bullies) have followed him into his hardcore group. "No Reason" has dual lead vocals. Another fun song. There's no place to be an elitist. The band actually pokes fun at themselves on the closer "Cashing In." They're only in it for the money. We actually get a guitar solo. The band shows it's melodic chops too. If you're looking for some good ole' hardcore punk, this is your album. MacKaye's lyrics are direct and maybe too preachy but you know where he stands. The band does show signs outside hardcore with the melodic and groovy/funky ventures they take. MacKaye would take this style a step further with Fugazi but this album is great on its own.

One of the most influential American punk/hardcore albums of all time! Still as good today as it was in 1983. Enough said.

Great early and influential DC hardcore. The cries of my people.

Hell yeah, this album showed that hardcore can be about politics but also could be about personal matters. It inspired me to write songs which were both political and personal.

Absolute classic hardcore punk. Only album with 2 guitars and a definite maturing in their sound. Bass work is amazing.

Great album

All the boys in the straight edge scene are in the basement huffing gasoline

Legendary shit!!! This album has everything: Classic tracks, catchy melodies, great playing on all sides, high energy and it’s only a little over 20 minutes long! You gotta love a band whose full recorded discography is shorter than 50 minutes. A personal favourite for sure

Phenomenal album!

Already love this. Moment in time. 8/10

Fast paced, full of anger and indignation, , doesn't stick around too long, and catchy to go with it. Basically, everything you could want from a hardcore punk album.

I can only imagine how this landed back in the day. This album is absolutely thrilling and timeless. It just fucking rules.

Classic foundational release for hardcore punk, here in its DC area denomination. Any true punk fan should have this on their shelves, along with the 7' singles. Everything's available in the *Complete Discography* CD by the way. Buy this--or the vinyls--on Dischord, one of the last genuinely independent labels still running to this day, founded by Ian McKaye himself. Technically, *Out Of Step* is more like an EP, but I'm gonna give it five stars nonetheless. This is gonna make up for the outrageous absence of many key albums by Fugazi in Dimery's list, as foundational for post-hardcore / emo / "alternative" rock / "crossover" rock as this one was for hardcore. At least four of those Fugazi LPs should be added to *Repeater* in the 1001 albums book, namely *13 Songs*, *In On The Kill Taker*, *Red Medecine* and *The Argument*. For those who might not know: Fugazi was a band that Ian MacKaye, the frontman of Minor Threat, founded a few years after 1983 with Brendan Canty and Joe Lally, quickly joined by Rites Of Spring's Guy Piccioto to share vocal and guitar duties with MacKaye. Retrospective lists about the supposed greatest albums of all of time often fail to quote them, which is a damn shame. But those lists don't really matter. Anyone who knows a little about music history in the Western world is aware of the band's importance and how their work was influential to so many "rock" subcategories. Going back to *Out Of Step*, what's also thrilling about it is how Minor Threat developped the initial "basic" formula of their first recordings in it so as to infuse some subtle melodicism and a few more variations in their new songs. It's still very much hardcore punk, yet you can sense the direction a lot of bands from the Dischord roster would then follow as they picked up the ball from there (bands such as Dag Nasty, Embrace, Rites Of Spring and Fugazi themselves, eventually). I know I've already used the word "foundational" a couple of times in this review, lol, so I'm gonna say it differently: whole music genres branched out of this particular release, including some where listeners might fail to notice the connection at first. *Out Of Step* is THAT important. Number of albums left to review: 379 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 282 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 147 Albums from the list I won't include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 200

I liked head banging

Legendary band. Usually just listen to their whole discography because there's unfortunately not that much of it. Wasn't sure which tracks were on this one, but they're all great.

Loved this. It was over too soon! If I were at a live show it would've been awesome. "You had us pegged all along. Damn."

A refreshing change after two days of 50s music. This is proper punk, as it's meant to be. The bass solo in "Think Again" rocks.

This album is going to be a quick one. But hella killer. Look Back And Laugh is awesome. Out Of Step is awesome. This is out of this world for punk albums.

Yeah, this is great as it has ever been, and Fugazi even better. On a side note: I would not call it an album but an EP.

Fuck yeah, super stoked for this one! That was a great album. Funny how the songs are all so short. The whole album was just over 20 minutes. Loved it!

Snappy

Fuck Yeah

This is great. It started out good, and carried on good, before ending up with Cashing In, which is just such a hoot that it makes the whole album.

Ja Minor Threat, je zet het niet snel op maar ik denk dan meteen aan hun hits en een beetje aan Fugazi. Dan heb je de 5 sterren zo te pakken

Wow, first Two Nickels on the Dime and now Out of Step - it’s Hardcore Week. I’m here for it. This album is such a beautiful bridge between punk and grunge. Love both of those genres - I really like this album.

Fuck yeah

"The 'core is gettin' soft..." Wish there was more like this ... So good.

Great album. Went by in a flash.

very good album, a classic

It's Minor Threat, isn't it, of course it's brilliant, concise and fully rargh. Feeling hyped off the back of it! It created a whole subgenre of punk and inspired loads of kids, even years later, to live cleaner, more ethical lives. And it's got jokes too! Though compared to the earlier stuff, this album is bloated at about 3 minutes a song 😉

OMG can't begin to guess how many times I've listened to this! Punk was massive in my community as a kid, and I naturally gravitated to the older, more simplistically brutal early stuff like Minor Threat.

Loved it! Early punk is always a fun listen

My father always said, the best 45 minute punk album is 21 minutes long.

very cool. Brian Baker!

Frantic and short. so short in fact (21 mins) I listened to the compliation of their initial EPs called "First Two Seven inches" just to clock an extra 19 mins! Proper punk

Fabulous little early punk banger. Predates hardcore a bit but is definitely influential on that genre. It definitely has way more edge than anyone in '83 bargained for. The analog instruments are produced so well, that I thought that guitar tone on Never Again was a 2010's remaster. But I was wrong. Talk about timeless. I loved it, at the risk of sounding like a poser. I like just a tad more aggression in my punk and hardcore, which came in the 90s. So I'll give this a proper 3 or 4 star rating for merit and influence.

So short and sweet. What a charming blast of an album. Solid rhythms, great noise. An excellent running accompaniment. I listened to this twice through. A really good album.

Haven’t heard this in a long time and woooooo it rips

Perfectly cooked punk. A big fat slab of medium rare ribeye, juicy and tender. What a nice treat. Breaking up all the beautifully and meticulously produced albums I’ve been listening to lately so nicely. Refreshing and fun.

Listening to this 21 minute album, I could definitely hear how it may have been an influence for groups I enjoy listening to now! 4/5 for a short, concise album with its own identity.

Lean, mean, and hard(core). Had never listened to them and it was interesting to hear Ian MacKaye pre-Fugazi. It's an uncompromising album but more accessible than a lot of the genre. And they could play, with the drums and bass taking the lead on many of these songs.

Really entertaining, propulsive punk, more melodic than a lot of hardcore stuff too.

Incredible production and raw lyrics and songs. Very powerful and great to feel everything.

Ah, mid 80s punk. Raging, stuttering, fast, efficient, simple, rich. I haven't heard this in a long time, but it sounds alive, smart, and awesome.

Good little punk album. It's short and to the point, and doesn't feel the need to pull you around. Liked it all pretty much, the aggressive style and fast-paced rhythm make you wanna vibe along. I don't think I would've liked a longer album of this, really good pace to it. Fav Track: Cashing In

I have to admit, I didn’t really connect to Minor Threat when they were active. I didn’t identify with the hardcore scene outside of a handful of bands like the Minutemen (who were only hardcore adjacent), Bad Brains, Circle Jerks and a few others and at 13 I was gravitating to more melodic music in the alternative area. Also, I grew about 3” that summer and got very awkward on the skateboard. It wasn’t until I heard Fugazi that I went back and listened to Minor Threat with more interest. Out Of Step is an influential release. You can hear it in a lot of the alternative rock that came out in the 90s. The songwriting is a step above a lot of their contemporaries. 4.3

21 hard-hitting, punk-pioneering minutes. Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout.

I love music that has something to say and Minor Threat sure has something to say!

The best part of early punk records are their running time. Major credit for that. It gets in, slices you up, and gets out. Exactly what it's supposed to.

Old skate punk memories

That was fun

Not my particular favorite hardcore album but it was decent, short, and sweet. 7/10

Punk Hardcore potente e visceral. Divertido! CVJ Neko.

Electric guitar, drums, hardcore punk

Jevli rå 80 talls hardcore punk! OG de er avholds! Sykt fett

i liked this album a lot. I always heard of minor threat but i never listened to them before, i this was a great finding, a very nice album. i would give this 4 stars, and well deserved.

I grew up on a steady diet of punk rock, my dad's thrash metal, and a few (at the time unwanted but secretly genius) dabs of modern pop and country through my mom. I don't know what music Ian Mackaye grew up on, but I don't think I need to: I (and loads of other people, who vary in terms of coolness, record collection size, and diehard adherence to preconceived and usually shallow punk rock ethos) come back to this album because it is a relatable dose of pure teenage rage. We've all been hormonal, we've all been mad at douche-bags spilling beer everywhere. When this album came out is pretty goddamn remarkable, in the sense that Minor Threat managed to be so early to the 'party', but the album is far from dated. Even if you hate the way this record sounds (I know I don't, but maybe you will) you have to give it to 'em: telling kids that violence is lame and that women are worth respecting is more commendable than the things most people I know were doing at Ian's age, even if this being a band of kids fresh out of high school means the lyrics are occasionally awkward. But Christ, is that such a crime either? You gotta meet these records at their level every now and again...

You can hear how this influenced all the punk that came after it... And only 20ish minutes long. More of this sort of thing!

21 minutes of pure punk bliss. I could understand someone being bored with the production cause it’s alittle homogeneous, not alot of variety, but why do you want variety when you are getting some of the purest punk music you could possibly find. I did not realize how great minor threat is before I stated this list, but I adore this album. It’s only held back by being new to me and not having like a stand out crazy hit song. Seriously a great album!!!

I enjoyed it more than I thought I would have. I was doing some yard work and listening and it's got some great energy. I need to listen again and see what the lyrics are about as I missed a lot of those in the first pass on the album Wow it's got some decent lyrics too. Again I was not expecting that. I think this one made the library.

Muy buen grupo de Hardcore Punk. Muchos grupos de de punk y punk rock han sacado sus influencias de esta banda.

Sounds like something the gay line would’ve put in in the dressing room circa 2003, can’t believe it was left off the Tony Hawk soundtrack. Listened to it twice, will definitely come back to it

4.5 I would suggest listening to the entire discography because it might only be 20 minutes longer.

GET IN THE PIT, MOTHERFUCKERS!

Thrashy and fun!!!!

Similar to my Circle Jerks review. Its short (although longer than Circle Jerks by 6 minutes), raw, aggressive, to the point, and catchy (I'll be sining "Out of Step" for the rest of the day). There isn't much more I can ask from my hardcore punk. 4/5

Great hardcore punk album

If Ian Mackaye would sound pissed off it would be a 5.

DC Hardcore is the best.

Solid. A little short, if anything.

Muchachos hacen lo suyo y se retiran

Their entire catalogue fits on one compilation album that is a better choice for this project. I have no time for screamy Limp Bizkity bands but all day for 21 minutes of this kind of hardcore.

Surprisingly enough a really solid album. 4 stars

Great energy. The drumming is fantastic. Really enjoyed this. 3.5/5 Might listen again

Minor Threat, maximum hardcore.

Fantastic punk album.

Short but sweet. I enjoyed the energy.

4/5. Very good punk rock album, kinda crazy that between this and fugazi, Ian MacKaye was in two of the essential punk/punk-adjacent bands. Despite most of the songs being very brief (as punk songs tend to be) they actually go through a lot of shifts and interesting structures. Very good album overall, also just was nice to have a short one after having my first 2+ hour album a few days ago.

God Ian MacKaye kicks ass. I love short and to the point punk albums.

Punk old school

It's an EP not an album. You would be better off with The Complete Minor Threat which contains the Out of Step EP and everything else you could ever need. The music on Out of Step is great of course, it's Minor Threat after all but if you are going just after the music well it's a dumb choice and being an EP it's also a very short listen. For collectors only.

Short, sharp, loud and has something to say. Good.

Loved it, vital, brief, really good stuff

Great.

These guys may not have an extensive discography (its only 47 minutes total), but this album is a bit of a step forward from the Minor Threat EP beforehand. It's still a fast flurry of hardcore punk, but the songs are more developed and interesting here. I still prefer what came later with Fugazi, but this album was the high water mark of their hard-core phase.

This is going to be a controversial one, but as someone who likes punk, this is what good punk sounds like. It's angsty, loud, and has good instrumentals.

I listened to a ton of punk during my youth (still so if the mood is right). I love that it is so “bad” it is actually good. 3.6

Very enjoyable and will be listening again. I can clearly hear the influence this band had on some of my favourite newer punk rockers

I actually guessed it was Minor Threat within a few seconds, before the vocals, even though I had never heard anything on this EP before! Ha! I *have* heard other EPs of theirs a couple times (only a couple times though). I thought it was pretty neat I guessed it was them! A neat thing to note about Minor Threat is that they coined the term "straight edge", which is the subculture of hardcore punk where you don't have alcohol, do drugs, among other things As for this EP: Hell yeah, more hardcore punk. The lyrics were interesting to read

21 minutes of being yelled at by a very disciplined man, and honestly… I didn’t hate it. It’s intense, efficient, and gets out before I can file a formal complaint. Punk af, but with a stopwatch.

This was a really good listen. As the music and lyrics go, they’re as expected from the genre. The instruments and rhythms are blood pumping and frenetic with some little touches of melody added time to time, and there’s voice is very in your face. When it comes to lyrics, the themes touch social criticism, betrayal, suppressed emotions and dealing with being an outcast, making the album very relatable. In general, this is a very memorable and consistent hardcore punk album.

Álbum clássico que deu partida para muita coisa que eu amo

Good punk

I loved it. Early 80s punk. Most songs sound the same; and difficult to make out the lyrics. This was not a punk band I listened to when I was young.

Punk yeah! That was fun!

I was wondering while listening why I was as familiar with Minor Threat as much as other major punk bands. To my surprise they didn’t stay together for very long and this was their only full album. Went out with a bang.

very enjoyable and nostalgic!

Wish there were more albums like this: short and to the point. Enjoyed it and able to listen a couple times through, but no tracks really stuck in my mind either. Overall 3.75/5

Ian Mackaye was born to sing in a punk band, he has one of the best voices. This was a very short and sweet album, but I think the list should have chosen their first ep over this one. Still a very enjoyable album. High 4.

What a pleasant surprise. The template for The Offspring.

Drumming and rhythm is incredible, great record

Just fantastic hardcore

Such a great album. This this early post punk early hardcore.

More Polish than their earlier work but Ian MacKay still had lots to say.

Like it more after a second listen through. Takes some time to get past the fact the vocals are rarely anything but yelling (and not in key), but I guess that’s standard hardcore fare. After that I was surprised how complex the arrangements were, even with a couple what some might call movements within a song just a couple minutes long. They don’t waste time, that’s for sure. This is probably a 3/5, but a high 3, so it rounds up.

Only lasts 20 minutes but brings more heat than most full length punk albums. I'm more of a Germs guy but this is undeniably a banger.

A fine heavy punk sample, one I wish I paid more attention to back when I was more focused on the Sex Pistols and Dead Kennedys. Oddly, my son loves these guys, as well as Fugazi. He’s more of a mosh-pit guy, and drifts to the harder stuff. Most of the current stuff he spins is average, but this baby is tight! Love it!

21 minutes let's go!!!

Classically Hardcore and not evil

hell yeah

This one blasted the sleep straight out of my head. Way better than I expected—tight, furious, and surprisingly tuneful, especially in those punchy bass lines. I couldn’t help nodding along. “Cashing In” was the standout for me: sharp, catchy, and full of bite. A perfect jolt of energy.

Ian MacKaye telling the world who he was and not giving a fuck what the world thought. Bonus: a lot of it is pretty catchy too.

Punk rock, right on

Some of this aged badly to me mostly because of having a lot of emulators over the decades but this is a definite must listen so I'm giving it 4 stars.

Hell yeah. A punk ep! This is gonna be a good day. Like the best of punk, I can’t understand a word of it, but the driving drums and guitar are so so good in the first track. Reading some of the lyrics, they’re quite good, basic, but there is nothing wrong with that at all. The bass work in It follows was honestly pretty great when I could hear it. How Think Again managed to somehow build in energy while throwing all it had at you was really impressive. The bass was given time to shine in this track! Look back and laugh was awesome in the way it pulled back in some places. I quite liked Sob Story, it was just the right amount of angry I needed right now. No Reason is actually a pretty poignant track in my life right now, unfortunately I can relate to the lyrics, so it was a pretty good listen. Little Friend and Out of Step were both fast and angry, perfect! Cashing in was an awesome closer and probably one of my favourites of the album! 4/5 ⭐️! 8/10. 46/1089

Everything i like about punk and none of what I don't.

Like a breath mint: refreshing

Despite being far from straight edge, this album was a pretty regular part of my teen and early adult years. Yes, this is rapid-fire hardcore, but the secret sauce of Ian MacKaye is infusing just enough rhythm to create some catchy melodies. As I get older, I find myself in the mood for music like this less frequently but doesn’t mean that I appreciate it any less. A solid record that helped define the straight edge sound and well-deserving of a place on this list. Don’t like it? Boo fucking hoo!

4⭐️/5 01.31.2026

my first time listening to this. I'm fairly neutral on DC hardcore in general (I prefer the Minneapolis strains). still, I appreciate music that gets to the point quickly and then moves on. I enjoyed this record more in its second half.

I walk outside and remove my gas mask after cooking a fresh batch of meth. Running late for a meeting with my gun supplier. I hop in my Bodhi and fire up the engine. "Look, Back & Laugh" starts blasting as I lower my shades and make my way down the Alamo Sea coast. My name? Trevor Philips. If the album was one song longer I would have shaved my head, laced up my boots, and stormed the local liquor store.

Maybe a bit much, but 21 minutes of high energy

This is my first time listening to this album. This is some classic early 80s hardcore punk. I enjoyed this, but I would definitely categorize it as an "acquired taste."

Favourite Songs: Betray Little Friend

É o rock, não tem jeito muito foda

Although I prefer the more melodic punk that came immediately after, this album just flat out rocks.

7.5/10 - Good album but I can only listen to this style for so long.

I like the themes and messaging behind this album. I don't listen to a lot of hardcore but I found this enjoyable. It was too short though. Light 8/10

Love me some old school punk

This was a rough start at first, but it really grew on me. I think the only thing holding it from 5 stars for me is that sometimes the vocals are a little difficult to hear and difficult to listen to. Other than that, I really enjoyed this, and a lot of these songs will probably make my regular rotation!

Listened at work Cashing in

I have to admit, I like this more than I thought I would. I assumed they were a offspring ripoff until I checked the dates and found out they were a predecessor (and likely inspiration) The short quick intense nature of the album appealed in a way I wouldn't have thought possible.

I'm not very well-versed in early hardcore punk, but I have the feeling this might be as well-produced as it can get. Having only heard Black Flag's 'Damaged' when it comes to this wave of punk, I thought that it was usual for the music to be low quality. But this record sounds incredibly clear and defined in comparison to the one mentioned. There are still some moments that show the production is not impecable, like the bass clipping in 'Think again' or the voice being a bit low, but in general, it sounds really well. As the music and lyrics go, they're as good as expected from the genre. The instruments and rhythms are blood pumping and frenetic with some little touches of melody added time to time, and the voice is very angry and in your face. When it comes to the lyrics, the themes touch social criticism, betrayal, suppressed emotions and dealing with being and outcast, making the album very relatable. Another remarkable aspect of the album is the dynamism of the songs. The best examples are 'Betrayal', 'Little Friend', 'Out of Step' and 'Cashing In', all of them having pauses and rhythm changes. In general, this is a very memorable and consistent hardcore punk album. Lastly, I also learned that the singer, Ian MacKaye, is too the singer of Fugazi, which is a very cool fact to learn.

Enjoyed this. Very fast, loud punk.

Classic 80’s hard core, not difficult to listen to by today’s standards. Important in its time

4/5 - Consistently enjoyable, I'd be happy to listen to it again if it came on. None of the tracks hugely stood out though, but it seemed like a couple did some cool things by potentially using tempo changes? Solid overall

Worked for me. Not perfect but nowhere near bad either. Also merry Christmas if you’re like me and looking at this instead of talking to in-laws.

That was a banger! "Betray" was a great opening salvo. Not every track did it for me, but I do like when these bands actually try to write a cohesive melody rather than just one chord over and over. I also like short songs from this type of music. Better a couple of tracks at a time than start to finish.

Punk in its purist form.

A very thoroughly punk album. Favorite track: Betray

This is a decent album to highlight the steady progression from standard Punk Rock to proper Hardcore. I lived to energy and speed, while managing to have decent tunes. I much preferred this to Rollins' lot. After one play it is hard to identify any song as a stand out, but as a whole, I liked it a lot.

This is everything I love about hardcore punk — raw, fast, uncompromising, and unapologetically real.

This is definitely a classic Minor Threat release. It was their first as a five piece band, and the dual guitar approach really shows. The sound feels more complex compared to their earlier, more straightforward hardcore, and the arrangements are tighter, the riffs hit harder, and the whole album just feels punchier overall. I’ve also always been a fan of their straight edge message. Punk is supposed to be about tearing down the system, breaking the rules, and revolting, but how can you do any of that if you’re a victim of substance abuse? If you’re on a path of self destruction, then everything punk stands for is completely out of reach when you’re high or intoxicated. You become useless, trapped, and exactly where the system wants you to be, which is high, distracted, and non-threatening.

This shit puts some pep in your step. Amazing energy and a fun mystery trying to figure out the words!

Decent. Can hear their influence in punk bands of today like Green Day, Rancid and others.

Might not be THE best hardcore punk ever, but loads of fun. Enjoyed every minute. Low 4

**In-Depth Review of *Out of Step* by Minor Threat** Released in 1983, *Out of Step* is the sole studio album by Washington, D.C. hardcore band Minor Threat. Clocking in at just over 21 minutes, it’s a landmark release in punk history, not just for its raw intensity but for its ideological weight. The album crystallizes the ethos of straight-edge hardcore and remains a touchstone for punk musicians and fans alike. --- ### 🎸 **Music & Production** Musically, *Out of Step* is a relentless barrage of fast tempos, power chords, and breakneck rhythm changes. The band’s technical precision—especially drummer Jeff Nelson’s rapid-fire beats and guitarist Lyle Preslar’s sharp riffs—elevates the album above many of its contemporaries. The production is raw but clean enough to distinguish each instrument, giving the album a visceral clarity without sacrificing its underground edge. - **Pros**: Tight musicianship, dynamic song structures, and a raw yet clear production that captures the band’s energy. - **Cons**: Some listeners may find the lack of sonic variety or melody monotonous over the course of the album . --- ### 📝 **Lyrics & Themes** Ian MacKaye’s lyrics are confrontational, introspective, and often laced with sarcasm. Thematically, *Out of Step* is a manifesto of personal accountability, rejecting drugs, alcohol, and complacency. Tracks like the title song “Out of Step” and “Cashing In” are not just personal statements but cultural critiques. - **“Out of Step (With the World)”**: A re-recording from their earlier EP, this track is the straight-edge anthem, with MacKaye declaring, *“I don’t smoke, I don’t drink, I don’t fuck…”*—a line that became foundational to the straight-edge movement. - **“Betray”**: A scathing critique of a friend who succumbed to addiction. - **“Cashing In”**: A satirical closer that mocks the idea of selling out, ending with a sarcastic *“Thank you, good night.”* - **Pros**: Lyrically incisive and emotionally raw; themes of integrity, rebellion, and self-discipline resonate deeply in punk culture. - **Cons**: The ideological rigidity of straight-edge may alienate some listeners, and the lyrics can come off as preachy or self-righteous to outsiders . --- ### 🧠 **Influence & Legacy** *Out of Step* is often cited as one of the most influential hardcore punk albums ever. It helped define the sound and ideology of straight-edge hardcore, influencing countless bands from Fugazi to modern acts like Title Fight and Turnstile. The album’s brevity, intensity, and message set a template for DIY punk ethics that still reverberates today. - **Pros**: A genre-defining release that helped shape hardcore punk and the straight-edge subculture. - **Cons**: Its influence has also been co-opted at times, leading to militant or exclusionary interpretations of straight-edge ideology . --- ### ⚖️ **Pros & Cons Summary** | **Pros** | **Cons** | |----------|----------| | Raw, high-energy performances | Short runtime may leave some wanting more | | Lyrically powerful and ideologically bold | Can feel repetitive or one-note to some ears | | Musically tight and well-produced | Straight-edge message may not resonate with everyone | | Hugely influential in punk and hardcore | Some tracks may feel underdeveloped due to length | --- ### 🧾 **Final Thoughts** *Out of Step* is not just an album—it’s a statement. Whether you agree with its message or not, its impact on punk rock is undeniable. It’s a 21-minute burst of youthful defiance, musical precision, and ideological clarity. For fans of hardcore, it’s essential listening. For others, it may be an acquired taste—but one worth trying. > *“This is the kind of punk I like: high energy, high angst, and a surprising amount of talent…”* A near-perfect hardcore punk album that punches above its weight.

Minor Threat make a strong case for hardcore punk on this 21-minute release. A lot of is purely straightforward, but where it does real well is in Ian Mackaye as a frontman and the topics at hand. Though it might make my head spin and hurt sometimes, I am intrigued by the impact of the messages presented. I think that's the goal of the music; that and make you fuckin' throw ya-self around. Punk is a great thing to have around. The music might be simple, but the overall impact of it all goes deep. The fact that Ian Mackaye has something to do with other legendary 80s punk bands (Minor Threat, Fugazi, Dischord label mates Rites of Spring and Nation of Ulysses) is insane and I commend him for it. Along with Descendants, Black Flag, Bad Brains and Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat make a major impression (8/10, 4/5 on this scale)

Incredibly punchy, great driving drums, enjoyed it a surprising amount

One of the great hardcore punk bands, out of DC nonetheless! Fantastic album.

I know this is straightedge, but it reminds me of skater punk. Not that I mind skater punk, but I have to be in a certain mood to appreciate it. I might give it another listen when I need this style.

Hardcore punk isn’t something I regularly have in my rotation but I do understand the appeal. Kinda wish I was around in DC in the 80s because I feel like this is the type of stuff you really have to see live. I don’t see myself listening to these songs again but this was a good album

Apparently punk (and metal) have been studied and is ‘a healthy way of processing anger’, I'm not sure about that - I love it, but I think maybe its just the only thing loud enough to drown out the internal shitshow going on in my head. This was great, I'll be coming back again when I have a spare 21 mins where I'd like to escape the monotony of my own thoughts.

Det e jæklig bråkate, men det e også over på drøyt tyve minutter, så da e det greit. Det e sånt som e morsomt som små drypp, men det e helt klart ikke den typen musikk æ egentlig vil høre på, til det e det for høylytt.

A high speed and aggressive punk experience that's over before you know it, clocking in around 20 minutes. These songs feel like they'd be right at home in a skate video from the 80s/90s or as part of the soundtracks for the Tony Hawk Pro Skater games

Listened to this album recently as part of my 2025 resolution to listen to at least one new album per week. Previously listened to 2 songs (Betray; Look Back & Laugh) Favorite Song: Out of Step

Really great punk album. Even if you didn't like it, it's over soon

Sauceometer: Upper Borderline Vibe: year 2 of hating your parents What was I doing: running to Ben's to get things for Liv's Swedish Meatballs/sitting in my room Favorite Song(s): Cashing In Blurb: Really fun little punk album that I could see myself coming back to

Really liked this a lot. Great punk album and short

I like the messaging and the sound of this, I just wish it were longer. 8/10

That was faster than a rabbit... but good! Fast fast... but good damn.

Heavy punk music. I really liked this except for the vocals. The music was just varied enough to keep it interesting throughout.

It is surprising seeing an album by a band as great as Minor Threat so lowly rated. But I guess people have different tastes. I think hardcore punk is great, but also consider that this album is by the pioneers of hardcore punk. I probably would have rather seen one of their compilations on here especially since some of their classic songs are on those, but beggars can't be choosers. Anyway, this album is pretty good and one of the staples within punk rock. Minor Threat is just something that was different within that community. Considering that some of the better hardcore bands were coming from the West Coast or just California, Minor Threat came from the East Coast (specifically Washington DC) and really brought the whole genre here and influenced other bands in the East Coast to be created like Bad Brains or even the Beastie Boys to some extent. I think bands like Minor Threat are influential in their own way. This album doesn't really have any bad songs that I could think of and really is sets the attitude that hardcore punk had in the 80s. Favorite Tracks: Betray, It Follows, Think Again, Look Back & Laugh, No Reason, Out of Step Rating: 4.5/5

Not usually a big fan of American punk but got quite into this. Cashing In was my favourite.

Simple rules of punk: Raw Fast Hardcore Intelligble at some point. Awesome album pretty short and sweet. No need to have a 60 minute album if your 30 minutes are focking awesome and unapologetic.

Grunn-punk. Kult. Bare 21 min langt, som er passe. Blir litt stereotypisk, som er forståelig mtp. at det vel er en del av starten av det her. Funker. Kommer neppe til å høre veldig ofte, men kommer til å starte den av og til.

Great band, not their best album though, still good.

I won't claim to know what qualifies a hardcore punk album for this list, but I absolutely agree that there needs to be at least a few hardcore albums here. This takes me back to my teens, going to local DIY punk shows and throwing myself into the pit. If only my knees could take it nowadays!

Listenable and economic.

It's the Replacements without a sense of humor, right? It's well executed and all that, and Ian MacKaye is an upstanding dude, but now I'm going to listen to Replacements Stink (which is even shorter and should be on this list).

Very nice punk album: fast, furious... I was thinking in giving it a 3, as an average, but then I thought: "well, it made me feel great, it kinda energised me!" And a 4 it is, yes sir

This is fireeeee

How cool to hear the original “Think Again”

Good punk album

A minor threat to anyone that isn't spinning this album.

If you grew up skating in the 80’s you have heard this. Unique point of view musically and philosophically while not forgetting to keep it fun on top of all that. 4/ 5

Great album, it has a relevant place in punk rock history, but it also still rocks. They have attitude, they play hard and they sound great. It's catchy, powerful and cohesive. I feel like MacKaye's voice and delivery are the archetype of punk singing. It's rough and in your face. The distorted guitar, the heavy drums, it's all there. In terms of songs, my favourite was "Cashing In". The chorus is super catchy, it's a fun song, and it's punk as fuck.

It's kind of amazing to me with my overall enjoyment of punk, admittedly with a preference to post punk, that I haven't listened to these guys before. I mean, I'm sure it was played, and people I lived with had the record, but this is the first time I've sat down and listened to an album. Good stuff! Clearly from the same school as Suicidal Tendencies and other great bands of the era.

Very fast but extremely fun listen

It was surprisingly good even though I don't really like punk

Fav: Cashing In Least Fav: Little Friend The intensity never lets up it’s great! Vocals on the other hand

9 songs, 21 minutes, the perfect punk album. I fucking loved this. Raw anger, killer guitars, really gets you going. It was so short, this was the first album on this list that left me wanting more. I will be purchasing this on vinyl. Was a tad bit one-note musically, but it's still a high end 4/5 for me.

Ouf!

Pretty straightforward hardcore punk music. Luckily I like straightforward hardcore punk music. Short but packs a punch with some humorous lyrics, which I enjoyed. Favorites: It Follows, Sob Story, Cashing In Would I listen to it again: Yes

Amazing atmosphere!

Loud, fast, and short. Just the way hardcore punk should be. Minor Threat doesn’t waste a second here. The songs hit hard, make their point, and get out before you can catch your breath. It’s raw without being sloppy and angry without losing control.

Much better than I expected it to be, there's a lot to enjoy here, I feel like I should have listened to this much sooner, American hardcore punk is a major blindspot for me so I need to correct that

Fierce. Intense. Singular

Short and sweet

Classic bit of punk from Ian and the gang

They are a punk band and they didn’t try to fool you

im hardcore now

21 minutes of pure bliss Best Song: Cashing In Rating: 7.5/10 (Solid) Stars: 4/5
