Great, nonstop, raw punk rock. Everything blends into a chaotic burst of sound and energy. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

As someone who was a teenager in the 90s and therefore into Green Day, Rancid, Offspring, Bad Religion etc you'd have thought I'd have listened to Minor Threat before, but no! The most hardcore punk I ever got was Dead Kennedys. I can certainly hear the elements that later bands were going to be inspired by - some of the basslines are very Matt Freeman for example. Minor Threat were so influential in so many ways and I wish I'd have listened to them as a kid when I listened to punk and ska almost exclusively. But middle aged, middle class me really enjoyed listening to this on my walk to my cushy office job. 4/5

Right from the start I can hear its influence in so many bands I grew up listening to - bad religion, face to face, pennywise. So crazy it was released in 1983- so many punk bands must have used and added to the path they furrowed. Admittedly this is the only Minor threat I’ve ever heard so this may be a hot take

Solid punk rock. Kind of curious why it's on the list - is this one of the first of this type of punk? It doesn't sound super exciting to me as a hard-core punk fan who somehow has never listened to Minor Threat - did they invent this type of stuff?

Prime example of 80s Punk. Simple, raw, and over all too soon.

8.8/10

Must admit I’ve never heard of this band or album. Great bit of angry, disaffected punk though and obviously a very influential album. Really enjoyed the riffs and guitar work. I think Green Day lifted a lot from this EP!

Fast, furious, short! And the first thrash punk drummer that can keep up with the band. What’s not to like. Listened loud on an otherwise chilled and lazy Sunday morning and it completely blew my thought process for a frenzied 22 minutes. Loved it.

Meget cool

Hardcore Punk is definitely a new favourite, loved this fast, aggressive, raw just a great album

3.7 2x short and sweet. Packs a punch. Arrival to Berlin airport and Uber

Great stuff. Never like this style of vocals, but the music is fantastic.

So dope

Good stuff, proper hardcore punk. Nice to have a shorter album every now and again. Solid the whole way through, will definitely go deeper into their other music.

Leaning 4. I’m definitely new to Minor Threat but have heard them on random radio-playlists from time to time. They sound how you want a punk band to sound. It’s a bit thrash, a bit exasperated, a bit melodic but not too much.

The punk music you hear in your head when you think of punk music. So short that I didn’t realize I had listened to two songs from different releases thinking it was still Out Of Step. Not bad at all, enjoyed the short time we had together.

Dude, I love these riffs! The guitar is fucking sick. The baseline comes in perfectly. The drums are spot on, and the vocals are brutal. It's almost like the vocals are a way of gatekeeping to some really good music. It's a textbook setup for punk music. I can see how influential this album is to punk. I can't sing to save my life? Who gives a fuck. I'm still going to rock the fuck out! Give me more!

Like most people, I had only listened to the compilation combining their EPs, but I really liked listening to it in its original form. There's no time wasted, just pure hardcore fun for 20 minutes. Great stuff

I was surprised by how the songs on that one are especially great, catchy and hard hitting.

I've had Minor Threat on my list for a while and also listened to the first two... well remarkably short EPs before this one came out. But what do you want from a band, which really wants to make some in-your-face punk rock. In my opinion, this album had some great energy and I would have loved to see them live, but now it has to do as an album on a more angry, angsty day at work to just let go off some steam. Will keep this in my collection.

That was a good one. Strong, loud and short, like good old punk rock.

I liked "cashin in" 7.5/10

Pretty darn good.

Fuck yeah. I prefer Fugazi as an Ian MacKaye project but obviously this fucking rips.

play it fast, play it loud fuck yeah!

At first I thought “I would have loved this when I was a teenager but I think I’m old enough that I can’t like new punk music.” But by the end I was thinking it was time to add this to my library. Love it.

I really liked this. Hardcore punk isn't normally my thing, but this hit just right to be something I enjoyed. My only complaint is that it was really short. 4.5/5

3.9 Nice. Always liked a bit of 80s American punk. NOFX was my gateway drug as a teenager. A worthy inclusion on this list, can't remember heading anything from this exact genre yet.

Despite having heard Fugazi's music before, I never really circled back to Minor Threat, not even despite the fact that their discography is basically like 45 mins on a discography compilation and realistically just 3 really short EPs, so while I got this I also took the time to listen to those eps (and by took the time I mean just 9 and 7 mins while I was prepping dinner). Honestly, the sound for the first 7" are fine, nothing too mindblowing but it has the exact type of energy and drive that good Hardcore needs and it's no wonder that so many people took to Minor Threat, I think the S/T suffers from the fact that these feel like VERY rough songs with little in the way of something too distinct, In My Eyes by comparison has more interesting ideas and all around sounds louder which I like but still is held back by being so short in length. Out of Step though I think delivers on the promise of what In My Eyes was doing with a longer length and better concepts/sound, it's not just these guys banging at the guitar real hard, there's some great drive behind the music and how they play, so many of the songs venture into some weird riffs like in Betray or Little Friend and it stands out so much in a good way. All of this leads to an ep that's not only more consistent but has more to give from Hardcore than Just anger and self-righteousness; one that I don't mind at all, the last song even reminds me a bit of the Dead Kennedys in its mockery which is always a plus. I think it was a good idea to circle back to these 3 EPs because it gave me a better sense of their growth from scrappy punk band to less scrappy punk band that has even better ideas, to the point that I see how from here they'd make something like Fugazi's first two eps only a few years later. It's the kinda progression I'm a sucker for in discographies and obviously: This EP is great, 20 mins of solid hardcore is nothing to sleep on

7.5/10. This is such a short album, and it features a load of energy.

I wish I had realised sooner how much I like punk. Great album, spiky, harsh, angry, vibrant, powerful. If you don’t like this you’re probably part of the establishment.

Short and shouty, perfect to set me up for a day's hiking.

Really awesome and concise album full of anger and discontent that manages to stay pretty relatable and fun. Cuts straight to the point and seems pretty ahead of its time for hardcore punk. Surprisingly catchy and groove heavy at points and pretty solid songwriting for hardcore especially when it comes to the lyrics which are often pretty basic across hardcore and punk. Energetic and just fun to listen to, especially at just 21 minutes long, I actually just stuck it on twice more afterwards. Production isn’t great but I love it and it kind of adds to the album experience as a whole. 4/5

Comes in, does what it intends, snotty, angry, intelligent, tuneful and doesn’t overstay its welcome. Kind of a pure punk aesthetic, not a dull moment, wasn’t looking for hardcore punk when this came up this morning, but shit it had me grinning after the 1st play. 4 Star, a great 21 mins,

Classic punk record. One to spin all day.

Super fun song structures, riffs, and bass lines. This was excellent. It also was high energy and short which was nice. Minor Threat is one of those bands I haven't listened to much of but I should have and still should. I listened to so much "straight edge" music in high school I probably should have spent more time with its roots.

Fast, aggressive, angry, beautiful Short and sweet A4 for sure

NOISENOISENOISENOISENOISE!!!!!! And all the better for it.

I don't remember listening to it but it must have been chill

Punk seems to either click for me or not. At first this was the latter but then it really started to work. It's just the kind of music you have to be in the mood for. I recommend for vacuuming

While not the earliest major punk release - Misfits have them beat by a few years - Minor Threat were Ian MacKaye's first band, who would go on to shape punk in his own image. The music itself is pretty great! I tend to think early hardcore is pretty quaint by today's standards, but the riffs here are legit and the drumming is awesome (especially on the first track).

I loved that we finally got a punk/hardcore record on this list. It was over so quickly that I don’t have a ton of thoughts, which is exactly how I like it. Ian MacKaye’s vocals and Jeff Nelson’s drumming stand out most to me, but the guitars trading off riffs was cool as well. This album is a great example of DC Hardcore at its best.

As a fan of fast aggressive music, I enjoyed this one. Nice and short too.

Just a cool 21 minutes of groovy punk to make you want to buy a skateboard. This one flew by. Ending a song on “boo fucking hoo” - you love to hear it. Shout out to Cashing In for having the most polite opening lyric in punk “How do you do, I don't figure we've met My name is Ian, and I'm from Minor Threat You know I tell them, usually, to be at their best”. This is at its best when the bass takes the lead and switches up the sound a little, big fan though. 5 songs added to my playlist, 8 added to the 1001 playlist

Solid album throughout but it is missing any standout songs. Ain't no Waiting Room here. What this is though is a vibe, and a strong consistent one. It's gonna be in my regular rotation from now on though. It's short, it's punchy, there's a lot to dig in as this is not a punk band made up of kids still learning their chops. Highlight: Think Again

Good stuff. Not as good as Fugazi, though.

Very cool music over mostly cool screaming (I didn't like when they doubled the vocals and he was out of tune with himself). But generally this is a great example of "less is more" - a full LP of this would probably be too much, but 21 minutes is just about right (I was feeling a little exhausted by Little Friend and Out of Step, but really liked Cashing In). Enjoyed rocking out to this album. Favorite tracks: Betray, No Reason, Cashing In (I didn't like the out of tune singing in the chorus, but it was just a really fun song).

Solid early hardcore punk.

A great early punk album

minor threat rocks

Absolute classic!

Angry noisy can hear a lot of pop punk in hear man.

Fast and furious fun. Hits hard then does one, perfect hardcore punk

cool punk record. didn't really do anything to compel me to love it but it's short and sweet and full of attitude. it was a fun ride, I almost wish it was longer!

21 minutes of thrash.

pretty cool EP by ian mckaye and the boys. this was apparently a pretty influential album in the straight edge movement.

Full of bright and powerfully directed energy!

Just read Our Band Could Be Your Life, so this was fun. Real solid punk.

Solid punk record - given it is on the American punk side I’m not the biggest fan - I’m more of classic UK punk - but this is still quite a solid record throughout

The difference I’ve noticed between American and British Punk over my years of listening to both is that America seemed to do Proto-Punk better, solidified sound and then sort of stuck with it, while British Punks moved on from the sound pretty quickly, incorporating different sounds and influences into a Punk framework, pushing forward a more innovative Post-Punk scene. American Post-Punk bands did exist, but for the most part, the US’s Punk scene doubled down on the hardness and sounded quite a lot like Minor Threat. Out Of Step is a good album, it bounces through it’s 22 minute runtime enjoyably, is full of interesting riffs and righteous anger at the state of the world. My only issue is that, comparing it to where British Punk had gone by 1983, it, and quite a lot of the Hardcore scene in general, seems a little conservative. This isn’t Minor Threat’s fault, and I still like it as music, but heart belongs to the restless experimentation of BritPunk

Very much enjoyed

I had to think about why I like this record when I dislike most hardcore albums. I think it mostly boils down to 1. liking the bass grooves and guitar licks 2. the yelling not being completely atonal and 3. the drummer being incredibly talented.

Good solid punk album

I really liked the sound of this album, mainly because I also really like minor threat! It wasn't very long though, which is not weird because most punk songs are only 1 or 2 minutes long. Will definitely listen to this again!

Twenty two fucking minutes and they still do more than some of the albums on here that are three times as long. Not in terms of range, all the songs blend together with few exceptions, but in energy. I understand it’s only twenty two minutes, but it still has my undivided attention for that time. All members are talented pertaining to both instruments and vocals. Everything is as it should be. Quite a nice little record they’ve made for themselves here. 4/5

Ah to be young. Good stuff

angry, nice to work and to be crazy

Not as good as the Fugazi albums I love, but still fun...

Minor Threat is definitely part of the canon of the punk music scene. They deserve their place at the table and this album checks off all the necessary "what is punk music" points. Well, THIS is punk music. For me, the absolute most important part is how it is "real" and feels like they just put it out there, no pretension, no bullshit. It is not overproduced or carefully calculated to be successful. It is unapologetic. I wish the punk era never ended because we all need to rage against the machine and be more unapologetic to the status quo.

Finally some energy. My rating is probably biased after being starved by too many mellow rock albums in a row, but whatever. Punk's not dead!

Feeling the urgency of this music more acutely as a 41 year old in 2024 than I ever did when I was first encountering it as a young, sheltered rural kid with no context.

nine tracks. twenty-one minutes. :chefkiss:

I was in a packed mosh pit a couple of days ago (The Chats). It’s an experience that often teeters on the edge between an obnoxious testosterone show-off and a deeply communal experience where everyone simultaneously pummels and take care of each other. Minor Threat is a standard bearer for that cultural experience.

Short, explosive, and fun.

Loud, fun, high energy. Not really my genre, but this was a fun listen, at least once.

This is another band that I've heard about for a long time, but never really listened to. This is a really solid and really early hardcore album. It is very short, but that's also in keeping with the hardcore spirit. Overall it sounds good, and the production could be a lot worse. It's a fun album that definitely made its mark quickly in the punk scene of the 80s 4/5

Hell fucking yeah

I respect the DIY nature and spirit of punk music.

I might be incapable of giving a punk band less than a 4 but I'm fine with that! Hadn't heard of minor threat before or the DC hardcore punk scene tbh (though after a bit of research I find it interesting you went for the album that didn't include their more famous songs Straight Edge or Salad days) but I really liked this album, great to mosh to (alone in my living room at least) and nice fast songs. I liked the last song (cashing in) the best I think. The album art is not great.

I love 80s hardcore. They just have the energy. Also learned today that this was an Ian MacKaye band. So cool, what a legend.

Great time.

A quick Not my cup of tea but it's a banger. Had a good, short time with that one.

Fast and uncompromising. Love it!

my kind of hardcore

Pretty damn good! It has a definite UK punk vide, and that's just what I like!

I always loved that Minor Threat was a little more technical than most punk bands while maintaining the attitude and energy of the genre. I’m a fan of Ian MacKay’s next band Fugazi and it’s always good to hear where it all started. I always felt like the transition from Minor Threat to Fugazi parallels At The Drive In to Mars Volta.

Kinda harsh on the ears but the playing by the band is so tight and the energy is great

Klein, aber fein.

Sept. 18, 2024 I'm excited for this one because I like the hardcore genre (post-hardcore??), but I've never been able to get into punk, so I don't think I'll end up liking this as much as I want to. Hmmm yeah this was fine, just not my thing I guess. Very classic punk. 3.5/4

So much respect for minor threat but their later stuff just hits better.

Love a bit of energy

It gave me vibes of sick of it all, nice!

Great dc hardcore punk album

This is a glossier follow up to thier self titled debut. This record is a bit more produced and better timed, and you can tell they have not run out of material

Thought I'd hate this, and it'd just be noise. It was definitely noisy, but I actually quiet enjoyed it. I think I'm glad it's 21 minutes long though.

This album takes me back to the mosh pits of my teenage years, back when life wasn't so messy. It's a blistering mad 21 minutes of in-your-face punk \m/

I have heard that this is an influential band. Okay, I can buy that. It was pretty decent for me.

Noisy, fast, and short!

I think I might have gotten into this in college. Now not as much, but still catchy and kinda fun!

I was fucking with this. Shit was a head bopper for sure. ez clap

I guess I like hardcore punk. This is the perfect length for the genre - comes in hot and heavy, sustains that energy all the way through, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

I really enjoyed this and can see how it has been a major influence on many groups (90s grunge/punk in particular).

I like the cover

77/100

Maybe I'm in a mood for punk today, this album hits.

Pretty much as hardcore punk should be - hard hitting, straight to the point, radged. The older I get the more I start to lean to Minor Threat over my old punk favourite Black Flag. I definitely prefer their first record over this though (and most other Mackaye records actually, that Embrace record was incredible as well as everything Fugazi touched), but this is still top.

This album wasn’t really my thing, but I can see how it probably spoke to a lot of people and was pretty influential. I liked that it was short and sweet and to the point; it said what it wanted to say without wasting your time.

Influencing punk rock since the beginning of time. Classic punk sound and ethos.

Thrash punk, I quite enjoyed it, it hits hard, doesn't outstay its welcome and leave

Iconic and extremely influential on a lot of my favorite bands.

Rating: 9/10 Amazing hardcore punk album, so many great guitar riffs and melodies. The energy is infectious throughout and the band really shines with the longer compositions. The shorter songs are great too, although they sound similar to one another. Favorite songs: Betray, It Follows, Think Again, Look Back & Laugh, Sob Story, Cashing In. Least favorite song: Out Of Step.

Pretty classic punk album

This is a weird one. Not as vital as what came before and after but maybe that's why it works. It borders on fun. Or at least there are moments of humor as well as some straight ahead rocking. Good not great but definitely something everyone should hear - Sob Story seems like a song from our times. Boo f*#!in who...

Sweet! I love listening to artists that are legendary and that I have heard before but not their muisc. Minor Threat is one of them. These guys are so punk i love it. I dig this album. I can only imagine what people thought of this at the time of it's original release.

Classic hardcore punk. It goes hard af, what more do you need to say?

Jeejee vitun hyvä on! Sopivan mittainen ja pitää otteessaan mainiosti! Legendaarinen kansi. 4/5

Hyvä HC-levy ja genressään kai aika merkittävä! 4/5

Still an absolute fucking classic. Hasn't aged at all and the influence this band and album have had on many artists is so obvious.

It was good. I liked it.

This came as an absolutely perfect wake up call as I jumped on my bike at 6.05 this morning. Short, noisy, perfectly formed

Rating: 8/10 Best songs: Look back & laugh, Out of step, Cashing in

Loud, brash and great.

The guitars giving there best

Alright, another punk album! Getting two punk albums in three days isn't something that I really wanted to do, but it's something that I'm fine with on account of both of the albums being good. While this isn't my favorite punk album, it's FAR from my least favorite. I quite like this album. The vocals are the make-it-or-break-it thing for me when it comes to punk. Entire albums can be ruined for me if I don't like the vocals. Fortunately, I enjoy Ian MacKaye's vocals. As is often the case, the instrumentals are where this album really stands out. Every song is just so high-energy and fun, and I love that. The guitar riffs and bass playing is amazing. The drums do feel a bit samey for each song, but that's not a big deal. That kind of applies to this album as well. The album is a bit repetitive, but that's not a big issue for two main reasons. Reason 1 is that the album is only 22 minutes long, so the album doesn't really give you enough time to feel burnt out from hearing similar songs for a while. Reason 2 is that even though the songs sound the same, that song that each one sounds like is pretty good, so I don't really care. The writing is very respectable and I appreciate what it has to say. Overall, this is easily one of the better punk albums I've gotten, and a pretty influential one despite Minor Threat only having one album to their name. 4/5.

One of the better punk albums I’ve listened to. Really enjoyed

🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕🤘🖕

Hardcore punk that is atomic, lethal and throbbing and mid-80s (which feels late to the game), yet a nice balance to MTV confection.

I like punk, but never really listened to Minor Threat. Enjoyed it! Love the short songs and they are catchy.

Carnage and original hardcore from start to finish, with a little sprinkle of catchiness to appear on an 80s Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack.

An easy 21 minute listen for me. Clearly hardcore punk but a few songs could go into thrash metal territory. Pretty melodic despite being rapid-fire. This album takes you by the collar and you can feel the hot-spittled rage screaming in your face. Faves are Look Back And Laugh and Cashing In.

Pretty damn good, but way too short.

There is very little wrong with this album. A whopping 9 tracks that clock in for a 21 minute album? There's nothing more Punk and when the age of angry Punk kicked in, Minor Threat were the one's banging down the door. 4/5

Washington DC Punk! Great punk album but also why is there SO MUCH punk in this experiment??

4/5. Punk at its finest. The shortest album on here running so far at a solid 21 minutes. No song overstays its welcome and most lyrics are intelligible but the passion is there. Great to repeat listen to, songs are unique enough to stand out. I definitely enjoyed this!

1. 3.6 2. 3.8 3. 3.8 4. 4.2 5. 4.4 6. 4 7. 3.6 8. 4 9. 4.5

Good energy, fast and punk

Not my favorite form of punk rock, but its influence is undeniable. Short and sweet.

Electrifying music - the sort of stuff which gets Trev Tench out of his seat.

Fun, fast paced, nice guitar riffs, nice hooks, great tracks. Enjoyed it from start to finish. PUNKS!

When I was a teen Minor Threat were a band I'd read about on the internet and had some mystique to them. I listened to some terrible quality mp3s with terrible headphones on the school computers. I was more into melody and harmony then and through a couple layers of quality reduction they didn't sound far off from the contemporary straightahead punk bands I thought were boring. I gave them another go years later, but they're still not really a 'songs' band so not much to latch onto. Now I like to hear groups that take advantage of distinct rhythms, and Minor Threat's vision seems coherent more than it does limited. This was cool. The guitars are great, like an American response to Wire. Lyrically and 'songs'-y, it's a bit slight, but style is worth a lot. music: appreciated. (⌐■_■)

This is broadly my favourite stuff to listen to: favourite corner of favourite genre. I hooted when it came up in this list. I love it. Just that in the context of this exercise, I think four stars is a realistic ceiling for 80s American Hardcore. Call it the Shitty Band’s 5.

strikes me a "skateboarder punk". But I suspect the popularity was more on vhs tapes than clubs. Not that that's a bad thing, comes in, hits hard and is short. knows exactly what it's going for.

It's far more fun being the black sheep than being amongst the herd. The fervor of punk rock in America reached further crystallization with this only full length from Ian MacKaye's first of many outfits. It's funny that it's called a full length because it lasts not even a quarter of an hour. Yet that time is spent given to some of the more insightful and lasting messaging of the hard-core/straight edge aesthetic. Never a second wasted, never a time poorly spent. Being out of step is a badge of honor. Favorites: Betray, It Follows, Think Again, Look Back and Laugh, Little Friend.

out of step with the fucking world!

Loved it a lot. Overall good punk

Much appreciated for helping me get the foul stench of yet another Elvis Costello album out of my ears (yes, it stunk so badly, I could smell it with my ears). 4 gracious thank you's 🙏🙏🙏🙏

It's nice to discover and finally enjoy who the Offspring were r̶i̶p̶p̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶f̶f̶ influenced by.

I enjoyed this album more than I thought I would. I have never heard a Minor Threat song and so this was all new to me. The songs are short and have so much power to them. As someone who inexplicably is getting into louder music as I get older, I think this album is going to be added to my collection. It's a shame the band only put out one full LP.

I love what I thought was punk. Then this algorithm gives me 80s punk and I fucking hate it. And I think fuck, I’m a poser. I hate the “real punk”. Out of Step is the first time that I realized no, I’m not a poser. The rest of it is poser shit. I don’t know the context. Is this the first of its kind? If so it’s a 5. I’m going to give it a 4 because it needs just a touch more melody for me. But this album, I believe, without knowing, or ever having heard it or of it, is the basis for everything I love. I will keep listening and it will likely become a 5. 8.7/10

Really enjoyable in an angry kind of way.

Flew by, super fun punk with better singing than most punk albums

Fantastic !!!

You want punk? You got it.

Dammit! This one went by too quickly! Like it.

Good punk. Lots of fun

It's pretty good! 3.5

Short. Sweet. Fun. Energetic. Awesome. Ready to get my pump on in the gym 4 Stars.

Short, angry, brash, fresh. This record slaps. Hardcore isn't my favorite punk. But it doesn't matter here. There is so much spirit, it overcome everything.

Enjoyed it a lot, short and sweet.

Pretty good, i liked the punk sound it had

Good shit 4

Worthy.

An apple a day keeps the knob rot away. After a torturous few years of being in agony whenever I got an erection, I found rubbing apples on my bellend soothed the pain. Soon I was going through 15 a day. Try it yourself at home.

Gotta appreciate an album that clocks in at just over 20 minutes! I had heard of Minor Threat but not ever given them a proper listen, hardcore and punk not being genres I gravitate towards often. That being said, thought this was a great example. Things I liked - the drumming is top notch and the riffs were more fun than I expected. I don't know how often I've ever heard the bass mirror the guitar lines but it worked well in context, and whenever the bass deviated things really opened up in a cool way. Ian MacKaye brings exactly the right kind of energy to the vocal performance - the way he says "Fuck it, man" in Look, Back & Laugh really worked for me. Things I didn't - Over half the time, I have such trouble understanding what he's shouting! For a genre so focused on getting a specific message across, said message was hard to hear at times. I had to REALLY focus. I'm not saying he should've done it differently, but they should have put him louder in the mix. He was competing with the guitars most of the record. Could be the fault of my speakers though. The last two tracks were my favorite. This felt like a perfect musical palate cleanser.

Me when the 327th post-punk album pops up on this list: I sleep Me when the 327th punk album pops up on this list: real shit

I got 21 minutes to flow | I got 21 minutes to go

8/10 really fun punk! not too special but still pretty neat

Punk-rock directo y sin contemplaciones. Percusión y guitarras contundentes

Yep, hardcore punk. I'll have it. Have been enjoying Ian MacKaye's contribution to EggsTV. Prefer what he did with Fugazi if I'm completely honest but I've always got some time for hardcore punk.

maybe it's just because it's coming after a row of music i didn't enjoy, but this is honestly pretty enjoyable. i had a dream where i listened to it and it sounded AMAZING, and it's not quite as good as that, but it's still pretty nice!! rough sound but not just a wall of sound, and the vocals aren't *just* screaming. good stuff.

Punk on niin low art paska punkkikin kuullostaa high art.. Incredible..

What an energy, lovely!

Straightforward driving punk. Short and punchy.

I really liked this album! To be fair I do know that I already like the genre and I don't mind as much when I can't tell what the singer is saying because I feel like it's just part of the music. Any album that makes the bass very loud and obvious I'll probably enjoy.

Although I'm not a huge punk fan, I feel like this was a solid album. It doesn't drag on for too long and the tracks were concise yet visceral and impactful in a way punk should be.

this fucks

A solid album, Betray, Think Again and Cashing In are great songs and the rest make it a good listen

Great punk rock album. Short and sweet.

Loved it. Right up my street. Some trivia, this is the band that Ian MacKaye was in before starting Fugazi.

The musical equivalent of a quad espresso. Solid punk rock. 4 stars.

Classic 80s hardcore punk at its core. Brings me back to when I first discovered MT, but I somehow missed this album. Guitar work is great, vocals are raw and high-energy. Favorite songs: Betray, Think Again, Little Friend, and Cashing In.

I'll keep it brief: heck yes.

This review contains 21 words. The same amount as the minutes of this insane sole record by Minor Threat. Fuck yes.

It was like I was playing a Tony Hawk game. It really pumps you up. Generally not my taste in music because it can get repetitive, but because it was only 30 minutes it didn’t get very stale. 8.5/10

WE DONT CAREEEEE. WE’LL STEAL YO MONEEEY. What a fun important album. love the whole diy hardcore punk movement

Good punk album

Everything a punk rock album should be.

Short but sweet

Can't ever go wrong with Minor Threat, in my opinion. Liked this record as a kid, still like it as I careen gleefully towards my old-fart years.

Why would you listen to the Out of Step album when the Complete Discography LP exists? Some of the best punk out there. CD is probably an A, Out of Step about a B

Some good hardcore punk for when you need to get a little aggression out. An album that doesn't overstay its welcome by droning on about the same stuff for an hour. Twenty minutes in and out. Glorious. Maybe I was just in the mood for this sort of thing today (a wrong side of the bed kind of day), but I felt like yelling right along with the band.

Appreciated how short this was!

“A Minor Threat to good music.” This is what one of my college roommates said every time Minor Threat came up. His best friend, another roommate, loved(s?) Minor Threat. They used to go back and forth about musical tastes constantly. At the time, I only heard noise when Minor Threat was on. Relistening many years later, I’m impressed with how musical these guys are. The drummer is fantastic as is the bassist. The lead singer’s voice is pretty good with a gritty edge that fits hard core punk well. And the song structures are not just thrash some power chords and pound the drums as fast as possible, which is what I remembered, see Little Friend.

This is a tight hardcore album with fairly simple music but very effective delivery. Every track is a bundle of angry energy that delivers exactly what it intends to. It’s not always pretty, but it is one of the most succinct and most important statements of hardcore.

Love minor threat- hadn't heard this one somehow. 4 stars

This is a perfect example of how a hardcore punk album should be. Fast paced, short, politically incorrect, aggressive and with an extremely cheap production. It's still not as good as "First Two Seven Inches" though

Short songs, microphone distorsion and a guy screaming 4/5

Solid album punk hardcore pioneer, better than most than followed

Hardcore punk clásico. Un 4.

Balls to the wall punk music, classic for the era and genre. Clearly influenced many punk bands to follow.

Before today I hadn't heard of Minor Threat. This was a true hardcore punk album, and it did what all good punk albums do, it came in loud, fast, and heavy, said what it had to, and got out. The whole album consisted of 9 songs, and the total album play time was only 21 minutes. The lyrical delivery was fast, raw and angry. The bass playing was stellar on this record!! It is a shame that Minor Threat didn't stay together longer to create more content, because it is easy to see the influence that just the one studio album that they made had on future bands. Favourite songs: Betray (the part when they slow the tempo down in the middle of this song is awesome), "Look, Back & Laugh" , Sob Story Least favourite song: if forced to pick one, Cashing In (I just didn't like the lyrical delivery as much, but it is still a teriffic song) 4/5

Fuck yeah. Tony Hawk Pro Skater video game soundtrack music, which is a big compliment for me. Favorite track: Think Again

I like Minor Threat. While "Out of Step" isn't one of my most favorite punk albums but it's definitely a mood that I pull for now and again. More importantly, this step into hardcore punk spawned multiple whole subgenres and inspired an absolute TON of hardcore bands that I do love. The scene owes them a debt as does 20-year-old me. That's worth an extra star right there.

GOOD FUCKING PUNK! Without the 80s punk scene in Arlington, Virginia and Washington D.C., Nirvana would not have been what it was. The Foo Fighters wouldn't exist and music would be a different world than what we know now. I am a much bigger fan of MacKaye's work on this than I was on Fugazzi when that came up for me. Good album that I was happy to listen to.

Just a solid punk record. Doesn't stay longer than it needs to. Plus, Ian MacKaye gets a thumbs up from me in every form. Favorite tracks: "Sob Story", "It Follows"

Banger, just what you need in morning traffic or when fighting after work

Really solid

Great basslines, emotional vocal deliveries, the straightedge ethos, and an energetic mix of punk and metal that became known as "hardcore punk." Classic album that holds up after 40 years and has gone to influence many bands to come. I enjoy later music in the genre more but it's hard to overlook the importance of this album in the history of hardcore.

Hardcore punk clásico. Un 4.

Always relevant. Hard, tight, angry - and why not.

I was introduced to Minor Threat my Freshman year of college by a bunch of straight edge friends. This brought back fun memories.

Great classic punk album.

Hair/glam metal dominated this period in the 80s and inevitably got caught up into listening to those bands. Then a friend introduced me to Minor Threat and other similar bands like Black Flag and I was hooked. I fucking love this album. Outstanding debut.

Great raw early 80s punk rock. I'd never given these guys a listen so glad it came up in the rotation. Also never realized that punk could be good for background work music.

Top tier hardcore punk. Though compared with their early demos and eps this has lost some of the frenetic energy in service of more complex production and song structure - See the intro on Look back and laugh; a proper guitar intro? Feels weird in a minor threat song.

Favorite song: Cashing In.

This is a timeless and influential album. I see the appeal! Sounds better through headphones. Best Songs: Look Back & Laugh, Cashing In, It Follows Worst Songs: Little Friend

Solid punk rock.

very short album

Fantastic example of hardcore punk, a genre I enjoy. Lyrics were hard to hear in some songs which is common with a lot of punk bands early recordings. I will be listening to more Minor Threat.

A sheer blast of hard punk fun that respects your time. Favourites: "Betray", "It Follows", "Out Of Step"

Pounding down a couple cans of lager while listening to this feels more than a little wrong, but perhaps calling this an album while clocking in at under 22 minutes is wrong too? It's been a busy weekend so I'm not going to complain about the brevity today. It does raise a good question about what constitutes an album and what separates it from an EP though. Number of tracks? Running time? Some kind of combination of the two? All that aside, I'm generally a fan of hardcore punk, and I have nothing but respect for Ian Mckaye. He might just be the most authentic punk that ever lived. Guess it depends on your definition of punk. To me it's more about idealism than nihilism though, so I'd vote for Ian Mckaye over Sid Vicious any day.

Hardcore punk comes to spit in your face again, but this one cares while it's pushing you over in the pit. It recognises that we've all been kicked down - it's time to help each other up. Best Tracks: Betray; Look Back and Laugh; Little Friend

Amazing how you can make an album under 22 minutes long and it still feels perfectly satisfying. Also, whether Ian Mackaye likes it or not, I do detect a hint of what would become emo here...

This was fun. Not the biggest fan of punk vocals sometimes, but this album had some rocking tunes and was fun through out it's very short length. Given I've gotten some really long albums recently, that's a huge plus.

I like this album a lot, but it doesn't have any of my favorite Minor Threat songs. I prefer the other version of Out of Step, and in general, the material on the Minor Threat and In My Eyes EPs. One of those or one of their compilation albums would've been a better choice IMO.

Really liked this. Not sure why.

Listening to this was like going to a theme park and instead of going on the big thrill rides with massive queues, you visit the rollercoaster that's smaller and more simplistic but fun anyway. 22 minutes seemed short when first inspected but its the perfect amount for this punk rocket of an album.

Heavy but short punk

Aye it's fun, it's good, not biggest fan of vocals, but guitar work's quality.

Now this was fun. Listened to it while making myself some lunch and the record was almost done by the time I sat down to eat. Some classic fast, high-energy punk stuff. Can't go wrong with it.

Love listening to early genre music, because it sounds so basic but you can hear where every subsequent band found at least part of their sound. Imagine Green Day listening to this and then making their early EPS.

Saved Prior: None Off Rip: Betray, Think Again, Sob Story, Cashing In Cutting Edge: None Overall Notes: Under 25 minutes :') I would kiss them on the mouth but I feel like they would beat me to death with empty bottles of non-alcoholic beer. I keep waiting for these punk albums to stop being so good but they just keep kicking ass.

Pretty solid rock anthem.

Didn't know Minor Threat would be on here very happy to see it 😁 never really given them time of day but yeh, OG punk so mint. Turns out this is their first album, so, before the Straight Edge track. Not as good as the 2nd album. 4/5 for being OGs

A really solid punk album, but the latter half gets a little repetitive for me. There are some fun, creative tracks on here, though!

Quite enjoyed it. Possibly because very short

At first I thought it was just a punk album, but seeing that it was one of the first bands to set the trend it gave it a new meaning to it, for what it meant it deserves some kudos

Bängeri Hardcore punk

Very good. But not as great as their first two EPs. The title track is one of my favorite Minor Threat songs. 7/10

It had me from the very first notes! This album is great! I love punk rock!

Great! too short but definitely listening to again.

OG Punk Rock (80s)

High energy

Pretty good smashing stuff music

Always heard of this band, never heard them. Pretty cool straight-ahead punk. I can tell that NOFX were undoubtably inspired by them, but I much prefer them. This is pretty cool, but nothing stood out.

Shouty American punk. I probably would have liked this more when I was younger. Now, I like that it’s short.

Nothing to complain about but nothing that stood out either. Will give it another listen though

I liked this one. Will not listen to it again.

The Good: No need to worry about the threat, it’s only minor! The Bad: It is out of step… The Ugly: Sidestepping a minor threat into a mayor threat… What? So, thankfully, this album was barely the length of single side album, so I was able to listen to it twice, just to get a better idea… And here’s my idea… Punk Rock serves a purpose… unless that purpose is creating a romantic atmosphere, or trying to negotiate dinner plans with kids… It is great for a short work-out though! Or a quick fight… Anyway, I was impressed by the level of musicianship of the lads, thus I shall grant them 3*… unless they sidestep again!

There hasn’t been many, but I’ve enjoyed the 20/30 minute punky/rocky cameos like this. Pretty generic but looking at the date I’ll give it the influential benefit of the doubt

I like Minor Threat just fine, but I’ve never LOVED Minor Threat. They were one of the “punk street cred” bands in high school, but I never really fell in love with them like some kids did, so I guess I never really arrived at true punk enlightenment or whatever. I also always thought their whole straightedge ideology was a little silly. I mean, more power to them, but my experience with the straightedge set was that they were always a little judgmental (and I was never really into drugs at the time anyway). And some of the lyrics are so preachy…Anyway, happy to hear this record again, but it still doesn’t set the world alight for me. 7/10

after this finished Fugazi started playing automatically. my rating slightly skewed by the example of later work

Punk....nothing to annoying here. Just have to find the correct mood for it

Snappy doesn’t even begin to cover it—blink and you miss it. It’s an invigorating brief ride.

Punk is simply a different kind of music. I still like it but you really need to be in the right mood to really enjoy it.

No matter how much I like a hardcore album, it will always at least be 25 minutes or less

You can see why also many legends point to minor threat. Rock fuckin solid, to the point. The edge-ness of it is cringe but a part of their mythos.

I'm punk curious and I undrestand DC Punk is very important but not sure I see what makes this particularly special.

Didn't mind it too much but didn't knock my socks off. At least it's really short.

Echt punk zoals je het voorstelt. Wel vet maar niet mijn main. Zou ik alleen opzetten in hele specifieke moods

heard worse

Hugely influential punk rock album. Straight edge and DIY can be contributed to these boys. Some great stuff but repetitive as is the common fault with hardcore.

If you like D beat drumming, have at it. Unlike bands that broke through (Ramones, Clash, Pistols), groups like Minor Threat stuck to a single formula. Compare Out of Step with Never Mind, which tosses in various genres and styles. London Calling, too. Maybe they are less "punk" but if I had nothing to listen to but Out of Step, I'd be done half way through Side A.

First time listening to Minor Threat. I had a vague awareness a of them and their influence but little more in the way of a frame of reference. Heavy, punky, not my preferred choice of music. That said, this band are absolutely worthy of a place on this list even if only 21 minutes worth! A solid inclusion but not one I’ll be rushing back to as it just not my thing.

Alright- decent punk energy but I can’t tell what the singer is saying

Didn’t love or hate this one, and it ended so quickly that I was like, well that happened.

Tony Hawk core

So so.

I’ve heard of the band Minor Threat. I thought they were a punk band, and maybe, painting with broad strokes, they are to a casual fan. However, I think more specifically, they are a hardcore punk band and one of, if not the most important, hardcore bands to the genre. According to my good friend Wikipedia, this EP would go on to help shape what would become hardcore up until today. I’ll admit, I’m a metal fan, but hardcore punk can be a little much for me. There’s a point where music can get boring to me without some sort of musicality or hook that I can sink my teeth into. Riffs always get me, so I’m hoping this album has some tasty riffs. The album is an EP, meaning it’s not a full-length release. There are nine songs on the album, but it’s just 21 minutes long. That’s one thing I love about punk,if you don’t like it, you don’t have much to listen to. Punk likes to get in and get out, which I can appreciate. It seems like critics and those in the know call this album an all-timer. I’m excited about dipping my toe into the water. I’m not sure I’ve ever heard any Minor Threat, at least not that I know of, so let’s hit it. Track 1 is Betray, and we’re off and running. I love the riff. The vocals are what I was scared of the most. It’s not just blood-curdling screams. It’s more like the yelling in punk. This album came out in 1983, and I can hear how, if it didn’t help shape thrash metal at the time, it certainly shared certain characteristics, like heavy riffs, tempo changes, introduction of new riffs. Track 2 is It Follows and again, it’s just pedal to the metal. Yeah, this sounds like thrash to me, except no guitar solos. It’s more than punk as well, because the songs are better written, I think. The drummer, Jeff Nelson, has to be gassed at the end of shows. He is just smashing that snare drum. Track 3 is Think Again, and this one isn’t quite as fast a tempo, but then we get to the chorus, and it speeds up. The song is about how those who set society’s rules are ignorant of what is really going on outside their world. “Ignorance, it set your standards Intelligence, that don't work in your brain You're an adult, so you act like a child Don't even try to explain This stupid sh**, it's been done You think you're the only one?” You’re an adult, so you act like a child. That rings true. Track 4 is Look Back and Laugh and I like the riff playing throughout the verses. It reminds me of Urban Struggle by the Vandals. Then we get to the middle, and it gets chunky and heavy. I’m really digging this record. It’s just great, fast, rock and roll. Track 5 is Sob Story and it’s about complainers. The first few verses seem like Ian MacKaye, the singer, is sympathizing with the one complaining about how bad his life is, and then we get the final verse. “Life's not been good to you It's just not fair I've got some news for you Nothing is fair I wish there was a way To make it all better I pray for a way To make you happy 'Cause I'm sick and I'm tired Of your whining, complaining, pissing, and moaning.” I think we all know people who complain all the time and have plenty of people to blame for their misfortune. And I hope we’d all like to help them if we could, but sometimes, life ain’t fair and rather than focus on the bad, we should probably focus on the good in our lives. I know I need to. How can I complain when I have some peach dumplings in the fridge? Track 6 is No Reason and it starts with bassist Steve Hangsen laying down a nice groove. This song reminds me of The Offspring. I love that band, though they can get a little too cute with their novelty songs. This song is about how, according to Google, “pointless conflict, the absurdity of clashing egos and the stubbornness of pride.” Well, that about sums up the state of the union today. We have so many people who hate others because they aren’t on the “same team.” Hey, numbnuts, we are all on the same team. We’re Americans, and I’m not pointing at one side or the other. We all need to stop hating our fellow Americans and focus that hate on who deserves it, the politicians and billionaires who push us to feud with each other over little things while they rob us blind. I. Digress. “What's the problem? Is it justified? Or are we dealing With our f***ing pride?” Track 7 is Little Friend and it’s about that feeling that has no name. Again, Google calls it a song about the overwhelming and confusing emotions of a teenager. “There are no words For what I want to say No description For what I feel It's a non-emotion It's something gray Way down Inside of me.” I love the way MacKaye describes the feeling. It’s a non-emotion, it’s something gray. He somehow explains the unexplainable. I’m sure we all felt that at some point in our teenage lives. What a weird time. We all think whatever is going on in our lives is specific to us, but not knowing that just about every teenager feels the same. I digress again. Meanwhile, musically, we have a switch to almost a new song midway through, and it’s great. This may be my favorite song on the album. The guitars are now crunchy and chugging. Track 8 is Out of Step and it starts out on fire. Fast and loud is how much of the album could be described. Some would think the songs all sound the same, but there are things in each song that set them apart from the others. In this song, there’s a breakdown with just the bass and drums while MacKaye speaks. The song is about MacKaye’s “straight-edge” life, no casual sex, no drugs, no booze. I’d imagine many “adults” who heard this music would assume he had the opposite lifestyle. Track 9 is Cashing In and it's a sarcastic song about the Washington D.C. punk scene. The song is different because it sounds like a punk band trying to play a more mainstream type of music. They're selling out, in other words. Tool had a similar song, at least in subject, called Hooker with a Penis. I love that song. This album was short, fast, and full of good stuff. I’m not enough of an aficionado to say this is must-listen, but I recommend checking it out. Especially if you like Green Day and Blink-182, and bands of that ilk.

Awesome, essential hardcore album. Not my favorite from them so I have to dock it a star but their whole discography is under an hour and everyone who likes punk should listen to it.

Just kind of generic sounding punk

too noisy for me

interesting cashing in sounds familiar. like it was used in some show i watched in high school. maybe like teen wolf or on abc family idk wait that was so short favorite song: cashing in

Definitely a punk album

It takes a specific kind of artist for me to really get into this genre (Frank Turner), and this band didn't hit that. But the songs were short and varied enough that I still enjoyed.

I don't always listen to punk, but when I do, I prefer Minor Threat yelling at me for 47 seconds. Stay hardcore my friends!

Punk kann geil sein

6.5/10

Do you want to hear unfiltered guitars and drums that just go nuts, on top of a vocalist that very's loud? then this album's for you! As someone who also has listened to numetal and altmetal stuff before, and this been somewhat my first punk listen, it's not that bad! Like i said, just raw, unfiltereds intruments that just go hard with pretty decent lyrical composition. if you wanna check some hardcore punk, give this one a listen
