Reviews (page 4 of 7)

I mean. It’s Devo. Probably wouldn’t listen again. I don’t get the jokes.

A few solid classics kick off the album, but it tapers off to generic new wave pretty quickly.

WE ARE DEVO! I guess?

odd but not distasteful mostly

Something something David Byrne something something Brian Eno

It’s kind of taken me by surprise how much I have enjoyed the New Wave stuff on this thing. This one doesn’t do it for me however. The singer’s voice is unappealing and I find the music quite strident and lacking in whatever it is that makes me want to revisit an album. I imagine they were more fun live with their daft hats and boiler suits

Fun, goofy album. I enjoyed it

Mark Motherbaugh was a frequent guest on one of the best children’s show ever - Yo Gabba Gabba. That has nothing to do with my review I am just hoping someone reads this and discovers that show! This was a surprisingly fun and pleasant surprise of an album. Melodic, upbeat, energetic, and very easy to digest.

Ridiculousness mentioned?!?!?!? Idk but I’ve just never been able to get into Devo but it’s not necessarily bad

I like the fella on the cover art. This is a fun, creative collection of early synth pop tracks, and the Eno production really shines. It’s definitely not boring, but also nothing that got me super excited. Good all around.

wow.... this is really an album I was looking forward to because so many tastemakers and critics have this thing on their walls. it's.....fine at best and annoying at worst. this is definitely one of those albums people have collectively pretended is good to appear unique.

Very unexpected beats. Quite out-of-the-box. It really is very innovative. I hope I didn't screw it up by listening to the compilation (from 1993) on Spotify... First time using the shortcut to the album on this page XD

good listen, still some songs were off. Its a good band though

I was surprised by how many of these songs I'd actually heard before. They just have an iconic sound to them.

Actually one of the more interesting punk records I’ve listened to thus far. It’s rather funny but it has catchy moments here and there, especially when they cover the Rolling Stones.

Pretty wacky. Sometimes a little too much so Fav track: (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction

Not the biggest DEVO fan, couple of good tracks on here ⭐⭐⭐

Never warmed to Devo, this listened didn't change. Hadn't realised Eno produced this. Mongoloid was always a track I liked. The rest is meh new wave that seems flat and detached. 3 Heard before? Some Owned: No 78/309 (25%) Will I get: No

So, my goal is to not miss a single day with these albums, but I'm currently a day behind, and I'm scared that an album won't generate if I haven't submitted my rating/review for the album two days prior. So I'm not even done with the Devo album...but I like it! I'm listening right now! It's kind of already what I expected, but it's a little more rocking than that. It still has the stiff and uptight grooves that I expect from Devo, and I wasn't necessarily excited for it, but you know what, it's alr--wait why the fuck is this song called Mongoloid

It was ok, some fun songs in there.

I was somewhat charmed by the eccentricity, but did grow a bit tired by the end

The first song on this album is exceptional. I thought to myself that this was going to be a surprising four star. Unfortunately, there's a lot of material that I just didn't care for. The stones cover was pretty awful. Overall a fun lesson then. I'm glad I got to hear.

Enjoyed the punkiness of it.

There’s a lot on here that I like in theory, the angular guitars, dissonance, the general weirdness. But it’s just a little too zany for my taste. It reminds me of Oingo Boingo in a way, I can support it in spirit but I don’t want to listen to it again.

I liked this album more than I expected. Quirky punkish sound with propulsive beat on songs. Singer’s voice is odd but works with the music. Even if I didn’t know the release date it sounds late 70s early 80s.

Never heard of album or band. Right off the bat I recognize the first song. Great guitar on uncontrolable urge. Not neccasarily the best written but it’s a stadium banger. Really good somgwriting on satisfaction. This is another classic. Not sure if I’ve heard this version but I like it a lot. Really good production. Super cool production again on prayer hands. Cool vocals. Space junk is a very generic pop/rock song. It’s fine. Really cool production again on mongoloid. Goofy lyrics but it works. Not a fan of jocko homo. Way too choppy. Ending is a lot better. I like the guitar a lot on gut feeling. This is a very fun song. Come back jonee is very 70s. Good enough song, nothing life changing. I like the guitar on sloppy, vocals are bs. Similar feeling with shrivel up. Fun production but bs lyrics. Front half of this album is much better than the back half. Overall good not great album. 3/5.

Kinda only like uncontrollable urge

Hard one for me to rate. It's like meta-music. Not very beautiful or human, but I don't think they're trying to be. In a way, it is very human; the message is more important than the medium I was smiling and chuckling. I enjoyed the synthesizers and goofy vocal inflections. As I often do, I wish I could have experienced this album when it came out, in its chronological context. As it is, for me it's hard not to see it as a quirky relic

Я хз, если честно. 5/10.

Would I listen again: sure It was like talking heads but I prefer talking heads. lol

I have mixed emotions with this one. Like a reviewer resumed: "a crazy mix of the ramones and the beach boys". At the one hand a fun discovery but unfortunately it is sometimes even too crazy. 2,5

Enjoyable melodic new wave/punk strong blend if guitars and synthesisers. Enjoyable.

not the best average

Well that was fun. Some obtuse, hard to lock into grooves and a bright sound. Not as much synth as I expected, which is a bummer but that's okay. I like Mark Mothersbaugh's sing shouting thing here. Doesn't work on every album, but it does on this one.

I honestly wonder what i was on when i was listening to Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo because my oh my was this album weird. It always felt like each song was doing at least one thing to give it a very weird vibe through things like certain vocal touches, unorthodox melodies and sounds that really made this stand out. I was kinda mixed on the weirdness as sometimes, it worked pretty well but other times, it got too much. I can easily admit that this is an album that won't be for everyone as it really does a lot of stuff that can be an acquired taste to some. However i still enjoyed it to a mild extent and can see why some people would absolutely get a kick out of this. Best Song: Shrivel-Up Worst Song: Mongoloid

Lots of fun.

I’m not sure I ever got Devo. They didn’t really sound like punk rock, at least the songs I heard, like Whip It, didn’t. I know the name is short for Devolution, as in humans are devolving rather than evolving? That case can probably be made for sure now. Or, maybe it’s a double meaning and they devolved what music had become by that point in time. In 1978, we had disco, and these big, bombastic rock bands and slickly produced pop music all warring against each other for the listener’s ear. This was their debut album, again, released in 1978, and Brian Eno produced it. And someone by the name of David Bowie also helped with the album, it's been said. At the time, I was four years old, and Brian Eno’s name wouldn’t have meant anything to me. Now, I realize he must have been the perfect man for the job. Though, according to our good friends Wikipedia, Eno and the band clashed. I think Eno wanted to get really crazy, and the band was like, no, we know what we're doing here. As per usual, the Brits got what Devo was up to, as this album went to number 12 on their charts/ It only got up to number 81 on the U.S. charts. The U.S. usually makes things cool or invents the next fad or scene, but we always seem to lag behind the Brits in musical taste. Though we usually catch on, and when we do, that's when a band blows up. The band is made up of two sets of brothers, Mark and Bob Mothersbaugh and Bob and Gerald Casale. Then there’s the drummer, Allen Myers. I wonder how many ties he had to break between the brothers? Mark and Gerald seemed to be the two brothers who were the main songwriters, but everybody except Myers had at least one songwriting credit on the album. Okay, enough stalling. Track 1 is Uncontrollable Urge and I’ve heard this track. It’s the Ridiculousness theme song. Now this does sound like a punk song. Mark M. is singing, and he’s not singing so much as yelling in a robotic voice of some sort. I can see how people disillusioned by the music scene at that time would gravitate to this weird band. This song is good. Great way to kick off the album and give people a taste of what’s to come. Wait? Is that alarm on the song or from my computer? It’s weird. Just an alarm sound out of nowhere. Track 2 is (I Can’t Get) No Satisfaction, and this was written by Mick Jagger and Keef Richards. Yes, it’s that song. Devo certainly makes the song their own. Very tight and staccato notes. It’s essentially the exact opposite of the Rolling Stones’ version. While there’s a loose swing to the Stones' version, Devo’s has tightened all the screws and decided to make this song almost clinical. It’s so weird. I never would have thought to do it this way. As much as I want to hate it. I like it. I always say that when a band covers a song, especially a monster song like this, they need to make it their own without losing its identity. Playing it straight like a karaoke band is too little, but turning it into something unrecognizable is too far. Devo did it just right. Track 3 is Praying Hands, and the first song I’m not sure I’ve heard. Oooh. This song has a bit of a groove. The riff is sweet. Then, of course, it blasts off to space with weird synths. It’s almost a reggae groove, but again, tightened up. It seems the song is targeting televangelists at the time, and how some people believed these charlatans. As the song goes on, it more and more resembles a real song. That sounds so weird to say. Maybe I had Devo wrong all this time. This might be my favorite on the album so far. Track 4 is Space Junk. Devo is like music with all the fun and spontaneity taken out of it. There are no drum fills, no guitar solos, just straight playing. Which sounds very different. The song’s about space junk falling from the sky and killing a woman. Devo were very topical, it seems. Though everything they wrote seemed to reflect the feeling at the time. Again, I was just 4, but that time had a feel. The 80s felt different than the 90s, the 90s felt different than the 2000s, but since around 2005, maybe 2010, it feels like we’re stuck. Or maybe I’m the one who’s stuck. Hmmmm, best to not focus on that too long. Track 5 is Mongoloid. Is that word still usable today? This song starts out with a killer bass line, and then it builds into a great guitar riff with swirling synths. This song sounds great. The song is about a mentally handicapped person fitting in better with society than most people. It was a different time. Not that it was a better time, of course. Beyond the title, the song is really good. I can see how the Cars were inspired by DEVO. Track 6 is Jocko Homo. The song lays out how human society is devolving. “They tell us that we lost our tails Evolving up from little snails I say it's all just wind in sails Are we not men? We are Devo Are we not men? D-E-V-O We're pinheads now, we are not whole We're pinheads all, Jocko Homo” It seems Jocko Homo means monkey man. The song is really good. I guess I’ve matured enough to get their satire and the way they are deconstructing rock music. Track 7 is Too Much Paranoias and it’s weirder than most songs on here. There’s a breakdown in the song that is odd? The main riff is quite good. The song is about our fast-food society and how it causes paranoia. It’s weird. Track 8 is Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy), and it starts out like a regular song, which, for Devo, is weird. Very punk rock vibe, like Bad Religion. This is just a lovely change from the previous songs. There’s a piano in the mix, which I’m not sure I’ve heard before in this album. It’s got kind of a modern take on old 50’s rock and roll. Gut Feeling is about a person discovering their partner is “rotten to the core.” It’s a toxic relationship. The song devolves into noise rock, before a fast punk riff starts, and the chorus repeats over and over. "Slap your mammy down Slap your pappy down again" Some interpret the song (Slap Your Mammy) as a satire on masturbation. I’m not smart enough to get there. But I think this is a really good song, both are, actually. Track 9 is Come Back Jones and it starts out with a lot of drums. The song has a great riff, and the bass is really holding things together. This is a parody of all those 50s rock songs in which someone dies, like Leader of the Pack. “With eyes full of teardrops Jonee jumped in his Datsun Drove out on the expressway Went head-on into a semi His guitar is all that's left now He made her cry And she calls his name Jonee, you're to blame Come back Jonee” It’s actually pretty funny and cool. Track 10 is Sloppy (I Saw MY Baby Gettin’). The song is about a dude’s girlfriend spending all her money on a car, and then it breaks down. From there it devolves into sexual innuendo? Or something. The song is weird. Track 11 is Shrivel Up, and I just realized Whip It isn’t even on this album. What? Shrivel Up begins with what sounds like an out-of-tune guitar. What’s really odd about this song is that Mark Mothersbaugh seems to be singing in a real voice, rather than his Devo voice. The song appears to be about people moving to the suburbs and shriveling up. Devo may be too smart for me. Okay, did I enjoy this album? Kind of. There are some fun songs on here, and I can see how Devo influenced the new wave and art rock of the future. But they aren’t a band to throw on at a party, at least not for a whole album. If you’ve never heard Devo or heard of Devo, I think you should check this album out, if for no other reason than to expand your musical knowledge and palate. I’m not sure I’ll ever listen to this album again, but I’m glad I did at least once.

Uncontrollable Urge

Q: How good is your album? A: Quite frankly, it's kinda mid.

As soon as the recons started playing I was immediately thinking of queens of the Stone Age. I liked it. This was more guitar based than I thought.

I enjoy DEVO, hard not to. I'd go so far as to call them underrated. This debut is a twist on punk and a start on the 80's sound wrapped into one. Innovative for the time and it still holds up pretty well. Solid listener counts from top to bottom, no track under 1.1M listens. "Uncontrollable Urge" is best known as the theme song for Ridiculousness, and introduced Devo to a completely new audience. Their version of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" was one of the original MTV videos and a great take on a classic Stones song. "Mongoloid" & "Jocko Homo" are fan favorites and always part of their live set. "Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy" has a cult following. I loved the "Oh, No, It's Devo" album when I was a kid. It's loaded with good songs and full of funness. There's a bit too much craziness on this one (see "Jocko Homo", "Too Much Paranoias", "Sloppy", songs that are fast-forward-worthy) Is it a must hear, not sure, but it's enjoyable and it was cutting edge when it was released. Influential, yes, and it contains a few radio songs. 3 stars

Not my style but a few good songs. How is it that this is the 4th album I hear from diffrent band all with a slightly other interpretation of I cant get no satisfaction?

Tightly wound new wave rock. The opening string of songs really had me going and bobbing my head, though the album lost me a bit in the middle with some less palatable tracks. Still, I love the energy of this overall. It’s angsty, horny music. I just recently discovered Devo’s cover of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" because I heard it in the Martin Scorsese movie "Casino" and loved its use in that. It’s a pretty wild and weird cover on its own but I like it.

Devo is a great quirky band, and maybe one of the more known quirk bands from the decades of 1970-2000. Most people know them for "Whip It", but "Uncontrollable Urge" is really a great song too. There's a lot of bands that have come since Devo that probably owe a lot to them in terms of coming up with a whole audio visual experience. It's cool.

Devo in general is so nostalgic since my mother used to play it all the time. Not my favorite, but gets an extra star because of the nostalgia.

uncontrollable urge

7/10 Hadn’t listened to a lot of Devo and was pleasantly surprised.

I wish I had heard this when I was 17 instead of now, I think i would have been super into it. Its good. Really good, but I just feel like it would have made more sense to me earlier in life.

Listening experience Uncontrollable Urge: 1st song sounds great! Loving this. Vocals are funny, but I can’t understand what he is saying. What kind of urge does he have? lol. Yaya ha yaya ha (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction: Cool drums. Dissonant guitar but it’s funky and the vocals are nice. Nice, he has a TV. Ends suddenly, I like the first track better. Praying Hands: Sounds like surf rock, it sounds happy and the synth comes out. It’s very strange, I’m but I’m tapping my foot to it! Cool drum groove. These lyrics are weird LOL! Yeah well what if I have 3 hands! Also ends suddenly. Space Junk: I’m liking this, I think more than the first track. Cool guitar, lyrics are funny. Sputnik Sputnik Sputnik! TEYXAS KAYNSAS Cool synthesizers. Cool guitar. S P A C E J U N K Cool drum fill at the end. Uh oh, I think this song has given me a case of Kessler syndrome! Mongoloid: Sounds badly, strange sounding drums and nice guitar. I like the synthesizer. Unintelligible lyrics though… I think mongoloids like bacon, I’m not sure though… Weird sounding synth and MONGOLOID!!! I won’t lie there’s nothing too special about this song, but it’s alright! Mongoloids have jobs too and they seem to like wearing hats, maybe I should wear hats while working. Nice ending. Cool synthesizer! Jocko Homo: Wow, very weird sounding. Oh really? Damn, I also think it’s wind and sails, and D-E-V-O! Yes, we are pinheads. Are we not men? We are Devo! Very weird sounding, I don’t know if I like this. Cool. Bass drum sounds cool, weird sound effects, they sound like the ones in Richard Dawson’s The Fool. What if a glue supplied the monkey? We are DEVO! Definitely the weirdest sounding track on the record, but I have mixed feelings about it. Too Much Paranoias: Dissonant. Man, who is scream- oh wait! AHHHHH! Very strange, also mixed feelings about this. I can’t even understand the lyrics. Cool sound effects, sounds like I’m in space. Yeah no, this is not for me. Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy) I like the everything, it’s very nice. Cool sounding piano. I think this is my favorite track so far! It just keeps building and building! is it speeding up? Ok I won’t lie, this lyrics kind of stink. Music makes up for it though! Uh oh, I don’t think he can take it anymore! And I also guess he’s got a gut feeling! Weird sounding guitar. Is he laughing or screaming? Wow nice turnaround. This is nice! Ends suddenly. Come Back Jonee: Sounds very different from the rest of the album. It’s fast… wait a second! JOHNNY B. GOODE? This sounds happy and exciting. Oh wait, it’s not Johnny B. Goode, it’s Jonee. D’oh! Cool sounding guitar lead. I SWEAR HE SAID JOHNNY B. GOODE Oh wait, he’s saying Jonee be good. Ohhhhhhhhh! New singers. Cool sounding drums, but it ends suddenly. Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin’): Also sounds different. I think the mix is just quieter, and what is his baby doing? Nice sounding synths, and she said sloppy! Wait… what are these lyrics? Never mind, it’s probably just me. I thought it ended! Lol! Now it ended, and it ended suddenly! I think that was alright! Shrivel-Up: Sounds weird. I’m gonna loose my ma? Damn, no need to shove it in my face man! I don’t know if I like this… Dying under daddy’s cap? What? Pooty-poo? Yeah no I don’t really like this. I think Album could’ve ended a lot better. Conclusion: I think this album was in the middle of a 3 and 4. It was very unusual and weird sounding, but that’s not a bad thing. But I’d rather listen to Bitches Brew which is way weirder sounding but sounds better. I think the lyrics were mid and they were ever poor in some songs, and some songs had some parts that id say… were somewhat awful. At least the other songs on the record make up for it!

I don’t feel any particular way about this album.

It aight. I may come back later and give this a proper review later. I’m tired. 3/5 ⭐️ 83/1089

I preferred the Pere Ubu record

I know of Devo, but I’m not really familiar with their music. Looking at their Spotify, they sang Whip It, which everyone knows, and there’s a cover of Satisfaction on this album, but I don’t know any of their other songs by name. • Oh, the first is the Ridiculousness song? This is a cool one, I’ve never heard the full song but I’m not surprised by how the rest sounds • This is a really interesting cover of Satisfaction. It’s very identifiably the song, but it takes it in a completely different direction • I like the surf vibe in Praying Hands • Space Junk sounds very Talking Heads-esque, I’m definitely hearing the New Wave in this song • Jocko Homo is an interesting song. About halfway through I checked how long the song was, and was surprised to see it had only been playing for a minute and a half. It wasn’t wearing on me, but it felt longer than it is • Come back Jonee is really energetic • Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin’) is a wild song title, but it’s a fun song. The bass is prominent throughout it which I like • Shrivel-Up is a very different vibe to end the album with, but I like it. I really love mouth harps, so hearing it in the back of this song is great. I liked this album. It’s a bit different than what I usually listen to, since new wave isn’t really my go-to music choice, but that doesn’t make it bad by any means. I don’t know if I’d revisit many of the songs here, but they made for a fun listen. Favourite song: Uncontrollable Urge

More enjoyable new wave than lots

Not my favorite, but I could certainly see how Devo's firs album really influenced the future of new wave

Devo, a band that wasn’t afraid of being themselves. Enjoyed the trip back to the late 70’s. Techno before techno.

I honestly feel that the main issue with this album is the fact that it's just a little bit too much "novelty" in one big gulp and that these tracks mainly work better as singles. I didn't hate this, but there's only so much quirky 70s pop I can tolerate before I began to tune out. It feels like it hovered between two and three stars, but I will be gracious and go with three.

Yeah. Great album of its time. Good nostalgic listen

Why is Tom Brady on this album cover? And why isn't that the weirdest thing about this?

All right, this is one that I understand why it is on this list. This is an album that reflect the beginning of American new wave. It is certainly fun, offbeat and kitschy.

Fun and of it's age.

The bastard offspring of Talking Heafs and B52s which is not necessarily a bad thing! More fun than I thought it would be.

I like it for what it is.

Ну такое, просто обычный рок как-будто

Conceptual (for 70-s), eh

This was a crazy album. It was as if The Talking Heads, B-52s, and The Cars all came together to play songs that weren't quite as good as any of those bands haha. The album was a little too inconsistent, but I did enjoy the oddity of it.

For some unknown reason I kind of liked this album. There was nothing special about it, but it just took me back in time and I felt good about it.

Den har växt. Lyssnade 3 ggr. Bitvis rolig. Hives måste ha hört DEVO.

quirky post punk. fun album.

Estuvo cool, pero no hubo ninguna canción que me súper enganchará.

top 3 - Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy), Too Much Paranoias, Come Back Jonee. Thought it was alright for the most part, will give another listen. Definitely interested me though, will check out their other albums.

Long string of meh albums. 2.5 rounded up.

This is an odd one for me. It has great energy. A fun vibe, but on the whole I found it more annoying than anything. I was just glad it was short. 3/5

Es bar gueti und vibig tracks. In Kombi mit es bar nervendi. Das heisst mir gänd demm 3 männer sternlis.

Devo are cool, but the songs kind of blend together.

Solid new wave album. Notable tracks include Uncontrollable Urge, Praying Hands, Mongoloid, Jocko Homo, Gut Feeling, Come Back Jonee.

Well crafted and considered nonsense. I never realised until now the parallels with the vocal style of David Byrne. Devo, the love child of taking heads and Kraftwerk.

I thought it was going to be better. It wasn't.

Devo is cool. This is good. .

Art Rock.

This is a weird one but in a really good way. I think that this album manages the absurd nature of the music and lyrics with the ability to put together an amazing medley of music that truly works.

Some great moments for sure, but not the wave I’d ride.

Yeah this is a weird one for sure. But weird in a great way. I can imagine hearing this in 1978 and not having any idea what was going on at all. It's amazing that these guys ever really made it into mainstream music. Even listening now it's pretty out there and I think a lot of people would fail to really connect with this record. I like it, but it's sort of a take it or leave it for me. If I never heard this one again that would not be a great loss for me. But I'd like to hear this one a couple more times in my life for sure. 3.5/5 but going to round down because it isn't good enough for 4.

This was an interesting experience. Very camp. But I don't think I'd listen to it again. 3/5.

It was like listening to Audible at 2.5x speed. Don’t hate it, but it did feel like shaken-baby syndrome by the end.

did not like towards end. 6.68/10 3/5

Different doesn’t mean great

Solid.

corny title but some saving songs in there

There is something about this, that really appeals to me. I haven’t listened to Devo that much before, but I think it’s pretty great

achei todas as musicas muito parecidas nao é mt meu estilo mas entendo alguem gostar

I get why this is on here. There’s a certain charm to Devo and especially this album, given the music at the time (or let’s face it, any time). That said, it is very strange and really not my thing. I’ve heard people say that this is the beginning of new wave, and I sort of understand that, though new wave has a lot more depth to it. This is more or less nerd frat rock, and there’s a reason that really no one else followed it. I read that Bowie said that they were the band of the future, but that’s just based on how they looked. Devo never proved to be a harbinger of music of the future. Smack dab between two and three stars, going with three because it’s so different, new and interesting. And that’s despite the fact that Brian Eno produced this and I really don’t like him. Maybe it’s because the cover looks like Tom Brady. Hey, maybe they were the band of the future…

Listened doing jobs Heard before but a long time ago

что-то напоминает (наверно просто Время) и почти непонятны слова)

Glad I could listen to an example of the weirdness that is Devo. Somewhat unique entry on the 1001 albums list, and you can definitely tell this was an influence for/rival to talking heads. Pretty good listen overall, although there were a few songs which were a bit too weird and brought this great album down to a 3

Didn't really demand my attention

If one must do post punk/new wave, doing it like DEVO is really the only way that doesn’t come off as cringe.

New wave gonna new wave. It’s ok, but not really my bag.

Are we not entertained?

Loved this one! New Wave and Post Punk are my jam apparently.

Like the Clash without the political message.

It starts so ska-ish. I saw Devo for the first time ever last summer and they're still kicking ass as old dudes. Respect for being different but also making fun music. Highlights: uncontrollable urge

Not a bad album, I'm not sure why Satisfaction was there, I guess they covered it 15 years after it came out, but it was overall an alright album, I just left it playing in the background while doing other stuff.

The album is exactly what its genre classification promises: post-punk and new wave. Perhaps the album was important in its day, but looking back, there are clearly better albums in these genres. Against this backdrop, this album was only moderately interesting. 3/5

il fuoco c'è, manca il pollo

Short ,sharp, punk new wave songs

Trupa de garaj sound

I really like the new wave sound, and a lot of these songs are great and very fun. I would listen again. That said, there were a lot of moments that weren’t very cohesive and i wanted to skip through. Top Songs: Come Back Jonee, Gut Feeling

Weird. A hoot. Devo is way more punk-y than I thought. Enjoyed listening until we got to the lowkey racial slur song.

I don’t hate this. It’s weird and fun.

Synth-y!

Not my bag. Didn't hate it, but I've never been a Devo fan and I continue not being one.

It has a certain vibe to it, which is quite original, but i'm not sure if I liked it. The Rolling Stones cover was interesting, but did not blow me away

Still fun after all these years. But crack that whip summarizes m eighth grade experience.

Interesting "unusual" sounds + rather classical 70s sound. The cover on rolling stones sucks

Crazy pop band of the 70’s. Broke into the music sciene, with a different sound, and look. Crazy flower pot hats. Some good music.

Liked this band and album a lot when it first came out but it has not help up that well and the song Mongoloid has become increasingly more offensive over time.

A classic of the scratchy, sort of funky in an angular way post-punk era. I think I have cd-copy somewhere. Was very hip in the 2000s when bands like Franz Ferdinand were breaking through. The hits are great, the Stones cover is so much fun but as an album I find it maybe a bit too much. It is quite hard to ignore the 'look at us being all quirky'-ness of it all. I wish I could give it 3-and-a-half stars...

3 1/2 Stars: Who knew Ridiculousness would single-handedly rubber stamp residuals to Devo for all eternity?!

"Uncontrollable Urge" is a fantastic song. I could pretty much take or leave everything else. The title track is irritating.

This had some great high spots (Are We Not Men, for one) but also some kinda disappointing lows (Satisfaction, for one). I like Devo a lot, but this was maybe a little too edgy for me to love. It was good, but it wasn't great, IMO. Three stars.

Good fun most of the time and lots of cool bass lines

The Good: We get to attend a Q&A session!!! The Bad: The questions are kinda stupid… The Ugly: The answers are even worse… Damn this album kicks off straight away… don’t believe there is even a second of silence… bam, in your face, here we go. Nice and refreshing… but it also gets a little repetitive after a while. We are Devo has been reverberating in my mind for two days now. Can’t seem to get that out of my head. The weird thing is that one would expect the album that contains Whip It Good to be the representative Devo album, but I guess I don’t know what I should listen to before I die as well as Dimery… Normally I am all for the ‘70s and their eclectic tastes of music and such, so I am at a loss regarding what I need to rate this album with… Shooting it down the middle… if it would have included the Whip It Good song, it would have been 4* for sure!!!

If you could ever here some one’s fingers all over something, it’d be Brian Eno here.

Their performance on SNL is legendary. Every music fan should watch that if they haven’t seen it. To do that on a national stage is crazy. When it happened, people didn’t think it was real. A band like them today wouldn’t even sniff SNL. People want too much pop produced crap. I was surprised to see them on this list and am happy for it. You should go watch Billy Corgan’s The Magnificent Others podcast with Devo - it’s great.

This is pretty straight forward new wave. For me, I like the singles that Devo had, and this album doesn't have them. I can appreciate the new musical ideas that they were laying down at the time, but this was a little to new wave for me.

Strong 3 . Great sound, second best album from them

The more Talking Headsy XTCish elements of Devo appeal to me. I love the feel, energy and presentation of the music, which is skittish and slightly unhinged. The songs themselves are cool, though I’m not sure how I feel about the Satisfaction cover. I remember switching the record off in disgust after hearing Mongoloid as a 17 year old. This time round I had the patience to read the Mongoloid Wikipedia page which gives some fascinating historical context around the word, but it did still leave me stretching my head as to why they committed so hard to this bit. In a good mood I like this band and in a bad mood I’m not particularly bothered about them - there are worse reactions!

It’s another high 3 from me

These men are Devo: creators of infectious music helmed by an all-time brilliant producer that ultimately falls short of new wave's other originators.

I can’t deny how fun and charismatic this album is. A handful of songs feel half-baked, another few are close to being pretty good, and a couple are truly great.

Not sure how I feel about this one

Good listen.

Eneergetic and a bit weird but, mostly, not in a way that connected with me.

Fun music

I love the avant garde music style and that Devo breaks convention here. It as a dissonant sound that only comes from musicians who know how to play music well. I don't know that it's a steady rotation album for me, but I did enjoy it. Of particular note for me were Mongoloid, Satisfaction, Jocko Homo, Too Much Paranoias.

Refreshing with some New Wave. Not my cup of team, but i suspect them to be some sort of pioneer for the whole movement. I truly enjoyed the listen. The Rolling Stoned cover was lit!

I mean - it's just unpleasant. another "i appreciate the historical significance but..."

Sounded ok, wouldn’t relisten.

Nochmal anhören

its definitely a joyful album, devo is not familiar for me beforehand, except the band’s name. Is this the OG (i cant get no) satisfaction song? fun guitar riffs, lively vocalist. Very danceable new wave/post punk. Jocko Homo is a ridiculous song, all with its name and their singing about the odd album name also in this track. It is a quirky song that gets stuck in your head. Great melody on the last song shrivel up. It’s sounds oddly familiar. Like that one autechre song that sounds like you are in a ice cave that is melting, and you can hear the water drops echo in the cave.

pretty cool to listen to new wave before it realllly blew up in the 80's. def an important album for the genre but since it's half a formative album it lacks that substance of it that the greats that followed it. good album tho!!!!

For a new wave post-punk band, this album wasn't horrible; it was a bit fun and experimental. Any more songs and I'd be completely sick of it.

I wanted to like Devo very badly, but somehow it did not click. But I guess it‘s okay. Fav: Uncontrollable Urge

Hey, I listened to this one a good while ago. On a complete whim, mind you - I don't remember a single lick of this album, or even what genre it even belonged to. Rock, I'm assuming. Anyways, I've always thought this was a great name for an album, so I'm keen to crack this one open again. Ah, new wave. I shoulda known. This is surprisingly quite familiar to me given that I only listened to this once forever ago. I never thought I'd be saying this, but this album is pretty alright. The vocals are good across the board, though it's in the guitars where this album truly excels. The energy they're able to capture is pretty fantastic, and this album only being confined to 35-minutes means that they never overstay their welcome. "Uncontrollable Urge" is pretty good. Those great guitars are on full display, and the vocals are quite neat. "(I Can't Get Me No) Satisfaction" is an even better follow up. The pivot to a lo-fi sound comes as a big surprise, though it works quite well - the bassy sound on the guitars is pretty hypnotic, and the vocals have a great punchiness to 'em. "Jocko Homo" is a pretty unusual tune, though I quite liked it. The avant-garde vocal style is pretty good. "Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy)" is another good cut. The quirky, wavering piano bit is quite nice Book time. Innovative within the punk genre and highly unusual. Produced by Brian Eno. I don't need much more than that, really. This is a solid pick - I cosign the inclusion.

1 star for the music, 2 for the outfits

Very early new wave. Not really my sound. A little silly but seeing as I was not born yet I can only hypothesize they were slightly ahead of there time.

A really fun album, not one I would listen to regularly but maybe as a dance party option? Not a big fan of the vocals, but the music and particularly the rhythms are fantastic and very unique.

not bad. His voice can be produced better but it was recorded in the 70s so it gets away with that. Or it might have been much better if he had put his microphone closer when they recorded it. Music is ok. Nothing too catchy for the first time, but you can tell they are writing good music that they’re quite happy about.

Quite interesting and good fun.

Went quite Talking Head’sy which I liked, nothing too notable other than that

Okay, early DEVO. First track is very punk, second track is a pretty odd cover of The Rolling Stone's "Satisfaction" in a very DEVO way. New wave is definitely here already, I'm much more familiar with The B-52's and I'm hearing a lot of similar vibes combining eleclectic instrumentals with goofy (but sincere) lyrics and punk riffs. It's like punk mixed with surf rock sung by a comedy band. This is late 70's so not a ton of the overly synth-y New Wave aesthetic of the 80's I'm used to. "Gut Feeling" is maybe the most punk-y and probably my favorite on the album. "Shrivel-Up" is almost Halloween-y? These guys are weird as hell but they're definitely true to themselves. I don't think it's really for me but I appreciate the record. Pretty neutral, 3/5.

Alright

It lost my interest after the 3rd song. A lot of repetition. To me anyway.

Very much of the same mould as Talking Heads, surprisingly.

In my head, Devo is a new-wave band, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear that this album was just, I dunno, pop-rock of the era. This album was still a big ol' bag of whatever, but I didn't hate it like I feared. 2.8

I love the off kilter timing and lyrics. It’s whacky but talented. Having only ever really been exposed to “whip it” this was a nice surprise. A clean sound that is ultimately a bit manic for my taste, but I like it!

This was another weird one for me to listen to. It did sound interesting, but it just didn't connect with me. I found myself confused on some of the musical sound choices made in this album.

Mark Mothersbaugh, I like you

2.8 2x decent but too 80s pop

Has that Devo weirdness, but actually some melodies are hidden in there

This was alright, nothing spectacular, but it was a moderately fun listen. 3 or 4 songs I enjoyed, but had some filler/annoying songs too. Definitely deserved to be on the list, though, as their sound was pretty unique for the 1970s. 3/5

Enjoyed it, starting to see and hear Devo differently

Blije muziek en zelfs een cover. Grappig. ***

A nice little quirky listen. Very energetic, very new wave. Not my favourite but certainly enjoyable. Fave song on this listen: Gut Feeling

I was going to say I didn’t like this album, but to be fair, it blended so much into the background that I don’t remember much about it. That tells me two things: it wasn’t awful, and it wasn’t remarkable. It’s the musical equivalent of eating a cloud - no substance and no sustenance, but fine if that’s what you are into.

fun but chaotic

No whips here

Interesting, different, can hear their sound in modern stuff. Given it’s nearly 50 years old it doesn’t sound it! Stand out tracks: Space junk Mongoloid Shrivel up

Weird album! Scratches that same debut Talking Heads itch but is definitely a lot more abstract in some of its core components.

It's weird. It's interesting. I don't like it.

Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo! – Devo (1978) | New Wave / Post-Punk | Avg: 6.55 | Favorite Song: “Uncontrollable Urge” Devo’s debut is raw, twitchy, and proudly unpolished, and your scores reflect that mix of charm and inconsistency. “Uncontrollable Urge” jumps out as the obvious highlight—it’s kinetic and tightly wound, setting the pace for an album that thrives on nervous energy. Tracks like “Gut Feeling” and “Mongoloid” maintain the momentum, offering enough melody to balance out the more erratic tendencies. There’s a playful absurdity running through the whole project that’s either invigorating or irritating, depending on your tolerance for controlled chaos. That said, the back half noticeably dips, with several tracks hovering around the 5 or lower mark. It’s the kind of album that starts strong, delivers its thesis early, and then overstays its welcome just a bit. Still, Are We Not Men? feels like a necessary document of post-punk evolution—its jagged edges and robotic delivery would go on to influence countless bands. It might not land every punch, but the jabs are weird enough to leave a mark.

Had some catchy parts but found it rather fast, chaotic and shouty to get anything meaningful out of it.

I knew, and didn't really like, Whip It, and that was about it. So I was a tad apprehensive, but this wasn't as annoying as I expected; at least, not all the way through. Some of the riffs were actually pretty irresistable. I'm not keen on the vocals, but I quite enjoyed a lot. Would listen again.

New wave bastante freak, pero pegajoso y con una idea de "despersonalizacion musical" muy bien hecha. 3/5

What a strange little group. Perhaps completely off base but to me this is almost more punk than new wave. Gut Feeling is the standout. High 3.

Devo always struck me more as a novelty act rather than a serious band. The music is different -- sounds like jagged, sharp edges rather than smooth curves. It certainly stands out. I think its just ok but I get why it's on the list.

Look, I know liking Devo is hip, and I really want to like their stuff more than I do. I have really lame claim to fame in that my mom was childhood friends with the mothersbaughs but they just ain’t for me.

Rock aus der Richtung "New Wave". Klingt nach 70ern, ist ok aber für mich kein Highlight. 3/5

Celine dionia punkkina. No joo

Not bad but feels like they are trying to hard on some songs, but is the sound of the times. High highs but low lows 3.5

It was just fine. I didn’t need that cover of Satisfaction though.

1: Uncontrollable Urge has a strong intro, sounds a lot like Men Without Hats. Inspiration maybe? 8/10 not quite playlist worthy. 2: A really great stones cover. I like the chill aspect and that they added a lot without taking away from the original. 9/10 Cover, playlist worthy 3: Really synthy intro on the third, Praying Hands. Men Without Hat's style is super similar to this. I like it, 8.5/10 playlist worthy. 4: So far, and listening to the intro of Space Junk, I like all of the intros but the main parts aren't cutting it for me. Nice riff, 8/10. 5: Mongoloid is good, pretty groovy, and tells a good theme. 9/10 Worthy. 6: I can tell they're having fun with Jocko Homo, and it's cool, just not something I would actively listen to. 6/10. 7: Too Much Paranoias is pretty good, but it had a filler feel to me even tho they were changing some sounds around. 8/10. 8: I LOVE the intro on this Gut Feeling / Slap Your Mammy. This was good all around, and it really sped up towards the end. Def the best 9/10 so far. 9: Come Back Jonee is good, and pretty groovy. Not too many thoughts on this one. 9/10 (They referenced Johnny B. Goode so that's at least .5 more) 10: Funny one, but I can't bring myself to give it an 8. 7.5/10 11: Shrivel up was an interesting end to the album. Leaving us with the fact that we all age? I didn't really notice too many related themes to that in the album, but it's cool. 8.5/10 song. In all, nice intros but felt like too many songs weren't serious enough. Definitely their style, 7/10 album.

eh I thought I was going to enjoy this more than I did. There were definitely cool songwriting elements throughout the album, but there is only room for one band with this type of singing for me: The Talking Heads. My favorite song on this album was Come Back Jonee. I'm thinking a strong 3 on this

Not bad

Eh it's like a not quite as good combination of the B-52s and the Talking Heads.

Talking Heads-ish but a little more punk flavoured. Not sure what to think of it, not a big fan of the vocals

Debut studio album by the American new wave band late 70s. Fun and quirky.

A solid 3. An enjoyable album.

I liked this. Got kinda bored through it but I wouldn’t be mad to hear it on if I was out and about.

Okay this was a weird album, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't quite enjoy it. It bounced around all over the place but never slowed down, 'Gut feeling' was a standout for me, 'Shrivel Up' was strange as hell but I really liked it's bubbly yet menacing sound. I'm definitely going to have to give this album a 2nd listen as I don't remember every song but just know I enjoyed most of them being on in the background!

I wasn’t expecting to like this, but the longer I listened the more I did. There are a few great tracks on here like “Uncontrollable Urge” and “Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy)”, songs I recognized but never knew were Devo’s. As a whole, it’s still very much what you’d expect from Devo, but underlying the weird are some really solid beats. Favorite track: Gut Feeling / (Slap Your Mammy)

It's... something. +1 for influence.

we are devo!!! 2.5 stars

Influential for sure but not exactly the most interesting album. Why are there SO MANY late 70s albums on this damn list.

A little cheesy and repetitive but definitely appreciate the roots of it.

Still find it too quirky after all these years.

It's got some hits. Jams.

Weird, wonderful, and awkwardly aged.

Goofy ahh album. Honestly super fun to listen to, even though it's totally wackadoo. Fuck it! Fave songs: - Uncontrollable Urge - Mongoloid - Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin') - Shrivel-Up

The first album that I was familiar with in my list.

Instrumentals are nice but vocals are lacking. Songs have a new wave sound that is unpolished. 3/5

Entertaining. Whip It is way overplayed but I appreciate Devo's aesthetic. 3.5/5

Devo is always fun until it becomes annoying. 3 stars or C+.

Quirky and kind of fun. The instrumentals are generally interesting. Although the singing can be sometimes grating. Pretty pleasant overall

Fun and energetic, has those angular guitar riffs and jerky Rhythms similar to talking heads and other bands of the time. It's more weird though, maybe a little too weird for my taste to be on regular rotation.

This is a great album name and cover. Their approach is unique and sets a bar and tone for sure. I'm not as blown away by it as I expected but it's worth a listen.

Something about their vibe is like a guy that entertains themselves by annoying others. That 1980s newave voice. Not a fan of the Satisfaction cover. Good production value. Devo belongs on the list, this album just isn't for me.

01) Uncontrollable Urge - 7,0 02) (I Can't Get Me No) Satisfaction - 7,0 03) Praying Hands - 6,0 04) Space Junk - 6,0 05) Mongoloid - 7,5 06) Jocko Homo - 6,0 07) Too Much Paranoias - 6,0 08) Gut Feeling/(Slap Your Mammy) - / 09) Come Back Jonee - 6,5 10) Sloppy (I Saw My Baby Gettin') - 5,5 11) Shrivel-Up - 6,5 TOTAL: 6,40 (64/100) Current ranking: 420/583

Wow! This was weird. More art than music. I appreciate that these dudes did whatever they wanted and didn't care what anybody thought. Get it boys.

While I get the cultural significance of this album, it’s a tough listen compared to their later music.

A surprisingly fun listen - that ends with a bummer of a tune with the creepy and silly “Shrivel-up”

Eh, it's fine

Classic Devo zaniness. I like Devo, but they’re not generally a band I’ll sit down and listen to; think you’ve got to be in the mood to want to listen to a whole album of theirs, otherwise it can be quite relenting. Still, they do what they do best and the production on this album is top notch.

3.5/5. Who sanctioned them hats? Having a song called Mongoloid is insanity.

Enjoyable, influential, but I feel like I missed the point in my life where Devo would be exciting for me.

I think I prefer Devo in smaller doses. A whole album from them is a lot. "Uncontrollable Urge" is such a good song, but the rest is a little uneven. Not a bad album, but not one I'll listen to much either outside of a couple songs.

Really weird album but fun! I like a few of the songs on here a bit, others don’t quite hit but it’s something nice for the background. 3 out of 5 sounds fair, it’s got a talking heads feel I think I like.

A bit sexists, but good vibe

Better than Coldplay

This was a wacky one. Reminded me of Talking Heads, in a good way. I've always thought of Devo as a cheesy synthesizer band, but they're much more rooted in guitar/percussion than I thought. Dug it!

Compared to yesterday’s album this one gets a 3. The parody on the album is good for a few songs but then gets a bit old.

I went into this ready to hate but it wasnt that bad. I really cant vibe with the weird talk yelling brand of singing they like so much. And it drags for longer than I like. Outside that its fun, poppy, and good for at least one listen through.

Delightfully weird & manic, but not in a way where it really stands out above the crowd. A fun listen, though.

It’s pretty overrated imho.

kinda wasn’t feeling it at first but i actually find it refreshing

Didn’t blow me away, hard to put a finger on why/why not

That was a Fun record, with catchy and quirky songs.

There were definitely some good songs here: Uncontrollable Urge, their cover of Satisfaction, Gut Feeling. Overall it was a zany and weird album, but fun for sure. Don't think it reaches 4 status, but it's a solid 3 for me.

Reminds me a bit of Talking Heads at points. This one finds itself on the low side of 3.

What a whacky album. Had some fun songs that were also straight up weird. Can't say I love the studio version of Devo, but apparently they put on one hell of a live show and am seeing them at Shaky Knees this year so pretty excited for that.

Grateful. Devolution. Understood. Brevity. Inventive. Fun. Q: is this not a great album? A: yes. Thanks, Devo.

Strange album, but in a good way. Very unique sound. Overall it’s good. 3/5 Might listen again

Undecided if this is a 2.5 or 3 star can’t figure out if I thought it was alright or not. Very distinctive, never heard of them before

I enjoyed this, but I do not revere it. There is so much fun to be had, so much energy packed into every corner of this album. I also had the realization that this is basically David Byrne all amped up and fast-paced. The opening “Uncontrollable Urge” is recognized by all people my age as the Ridiculousness theme song. “I Can’t Get No Satisfaction” is an interesting cover that’s unique and separated enough from the original that it’s worth a listen. I appreciated “Too Much Paranoias”, as it leaned into the spirit of this record - high energy, high chaos (for pop standards). The same can be said for the passages of hollering towards the end of “Gut Feeling / Slap Your Mammy”. I’d pick that song as my highlight of the album. Maybe it’s not to my taste, maybe it’s a matter of time and place, but I wasn’t jumping for joy after this one was finished. I think many people hold this album in high praise, and I can sorta see that. I respect it but dont love it

It's aight

Pretty fun

Devo is stupid, so it’s easier to just give in and enjoy the weird ride. There are plenty of catchy tunes along the way to not make you go insane.

Happy, breezy New Wave goodness, just quirky enough to make you smile. The unhinged cover of the Stones' "Satisfaction" remains the highlight for me.

This I call a shtick, and I go to parties where many people who attend have a shtick, so it's very close to my heart. It's also the 80s-style hard-on-the-ears sound that caps my love for Devo. Also your hat was on my old Whip-It canister, because coincidence is funny.

No Satisfaction listening to this

Ah yes, the weird rock project that is Devo. They are weird and out there, and that’s okay. It’s alright. Not really my jam.

I liked this ok. I like how up tempo it is, but listening to it at work got a bit grating after a while. At some point the sound is just kitschy just for the sake of it. Good for an occasional listen, but I wouldn't want to hear this all the time. Also, why is Tom Brady on the cover?

The first half of this album was fun, but then it turned. The song became the same and couldn't distingush from the next

Really enjoyed the front half. It helped to supplement the listening with watching a live performance from this time. I found the frontman to be a sneaky strong singer. Alas, it kind of got stale for me by the end. Happy to have gone on the journey, nonetheless. I can now say with confidence that "I get it"

I want to preface this by saying that I think Devo is cool. With that said, cool albums aren’t always super palatable or listenable… and that’s the case here (for me). I love how punk rock and subversive this album is and I wish I could give it a higher score but…I was super burned out by the second half.

Q: Are you women? A: No, you're Devo.

Sounds crazy. By for the best "new wave" we've heard - I think it fits more in a punk box.

Meh. I have a pretty rad picture of me in 2005 with this record as my face which makes me want to like this more, but I don’t love it!

Alright bum

Fun, psychedelic. Wasn't sure if some of the songs were covers. Reminded me of B-52s. Probably wouldn't go back to this unless I wanted some weird music to party to, which I imagine was kind of the point.

Still a great sound

Tried a few times with this record over the years and failed to make it all the way through. This time however I did and found myself enjoying it more than I thought. Especially the latter half.

gut feeling, whadda banger

Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeyeyeyeyeyYEAH THIS IS SHIT gets better track 5 great name

This project has made me realise I'm not really a big fan of new wave, but this was ok. It's got enough weirdness in it to appeal while falling short of the more funk and world music inspired Talking Heads.

No Whip-It here, but some good new wave.

Fun, artsy and weird. Everything you think of when you think Devo.

Need to revisit further…. did you know that in his later life band member Mark Mothersbaugh has written lots of soundtracks, including the recent ‘Cocaine Bea film…..

True 3, equal amounts of hits and duds to me

Abwechslungsreiches In Köln produziertes New Wave Album mit deutlichen Punk Elementen. Es war nett zu hören und über das Chaos der Produktion zu lesen. Aber ein Wiederhören drängt sich nicht auf.

unnecessary ontological confusion

Achei um punk interessante para época (77). Lembra Talking Heads. Devolution is the law!

Interesting, very similar to Talking Heads in style. Quite a fresh breeze with somethinge light-hearted and witty. Everything doesn't have to be so dead serious all the time! The record had quite a strong start with some good songs, and I think it trucked along a good trajectory of staying interesting and varying all the way through. Perhaps not exactly packed with bangers, but still fun to listen to. Probably something I could grow to like over time if I gave it the chance!

I don’t hate this now, but it was much better when I was 9. 3

The de-evolution of man kind. It rocks regardless. It's just not an all the time listen for me.

Some cool bits but it was all a bit try hard for my taste. I did like it being experimental in a pop way though with short, punchy songs rather than the 70s prog rock way of thinking they can emulate Beethoven

Very quirky. Not sure how I feel but I appreciate the different direction and how succinct the album is. Doesn't overstay it's welcome, fun, and unique

It's Devo alright. Too cool for me. Fun! Some filler.

Ik vind het leuk maar een beetje nerveus makend

Dont get time but sound is cool

A truly unserious band

Not bad. Very much sounds like early 80s!

my mood swings on this album a lot

This was like the Clash met the Go-Go's - I never would have described Devo that way before listening to this. I only knew their hits. The other stuff is hot or miss, with more hits than misses.

Devo have more than one album? Who knew. No "Whip It" on this. Album is ok.
