Reviews (page 7 of 8)
I don't really get why this belongs in the 1001. It's interesting to hear the sitar used in a contemporary (well, 1970...) setting, but the inclusion of Stones and Doors covers, especially in the opening run, make this feel like a bit of a novelty record. The most entertaining parts are the original works towards the end of the album but overall it doesn't get out of second gear, for me.
Interesting. Some songs were great and some lolled in. Cool Indian style versions of some songs I know. Idk if I would go out of my way to listen again
Tiene su gracia y suena bastante moderno incluso hoy en día más de 50 años después de crearse. Aunque se hace algo repetitivo y creo que es algo discutible el que esto sea imprescindible.
It was ok! Something new and different.
I never knew I needed sitar covers in my life, and now I know I still don't.
Weird one. Covers dragged this down for me 2/5
This album is neat and I'm glad it exists, but I doubt I'd revisit it.
I'm sure it was cool at the time.now it sounds like Moog backed Sitar that AI made as a B-Film soundtrack from the 60s.
Unusual mix of cultural music styles which invariably never works. I will never be a fan of the sitar, but I did find I could kind of tolerate it for a few of the cover tracks, although the second half of the album was a real struggle and I had to skip it. Not my kind of music.
I’m sorry, but I really felt no connection with this music. We’ve had something close to Shankar. I think they were related before and same opinion on that. It’s just really something that did not grab my attention. It wasn’t the worst thing I’ve ever heard I just would never voluntarily listen to it.
While I appreciate and applaud the idea of melding different genres in new ways, I can't help but think this "Jumpin' Jack Flash" cover is an elaborate Austin Powers type joke. Every possible dancing girl, swirly colours, groovy Laugh-In stereotype of the era seems appropriate. I don't hate it but still kind of do. I love me some Moog but I'm not sure it's really featured here and certainly not like the sitar which ... since there's a picture of one on the cover, I suppose one should expect it. Eh nothing in here is that bad - definitely cheesy covers including "Light My Fire" - but it works more for background music than active listening for me. I will say that the last few songs seem more legit and maybe that's more of him not melding as many genres - i.e. Dance Indra has a deep Moog tone going on underneath the sitar that - even if i don't personally get that into it - seems more at ease with itself. Although in the end not being a huge fan of the sitar, i'm pushing it just a little further into the background. 5/10 2 stars
Some of it was ok, but in small doses.
Can't say I'm a fan of this, would much prefer it in its natural form a la Ravi rather than a half assed cover of the doors
It's alright. It's a sitar.
Average at best.
Kind of brilliantly bad? I mean, it's like elevator music, but with sitars? Um. Yeah. I guess it's something that was interesting to listen to once, and it seems to be in earnest, but super out there, and for my taste, not something I'd want to experience again. It does get better. The covers are the worst part, by far.
Nothing really grabbed me here, in fact it got more and more annoying with each passing track.
Kertakäyttökamaa
The covers felt unnecessary and the originals aren't essential listening either, imo.
Instrumental Sitar music with a cover of Jumpin Jack Flash and Light My Fire. Not for me
"Featuring sitar and Moog synthesizers", så da love jo godt. Men blei diverre litt for mange coverlåta for meg
Jumping jack flash var jævlig bra. Ellers litt ymse
It’s neat and sounds interesting but I don’t think a sitar can carry a whole album
sound is eigentlich cool, aber manchmal a sau anstrengend
fun bit not interedting
Hasn't aged well
I guess The Beatles did it with Ravi Shankar, so why not some Rolling Stones and The Doors! No thanks...
The Austin Powers of sitar albums, a little too shagadellic for mine. I love Indian rhythms and would have preferred to hear a more authentic set of tunes.
This was alright. Didn't really blow me away too much. I think it's fun hearing the classic rock cover in context of traditional indian instruments, and I know there's some mystical music lineage going on here with relation to Ravi Shankar, but I just felt it was alright. Not sure if it's a must-listen.
It turns out I can enjoy the sitar for 24m33s, at which point my feelings take a rapid nosedive. Sadly this album is 40m:36s long
Not a huge fan. Lots of just noodling on the sitar that never seemed to go anywhere.
You never really want to peak on track 1
This was interesting but not something I'll reach for again. The stones covers were fun the first time but seemed like a novelty act already by the 2nd listen. Def there is cool stuff here and I'm glad it's on the list but it's not something I'll miss now that I'm done listening to it.
Psychedelic, background music. Dragged on, not a big fan.
Would have never guessed he played with Jimi Hendrix.
Versiones con sitar. Se hace rayante
Could do with a little less sitar.
okii!!!!! 6/10
Generic sitar music
This album is billed as an innovative form of Indian-Western Fusion, but it's really just sitar covers. Best track: Snow Flower
I've got to say it, I reeeally didn't care for the covers of the Stones and the Doors. I get the idea behind it, but they're just not good. The other songs on the album fall on the spectrum between intriguing and irritating. I had to check out early on the last song. Fave Songs: Snow Flower, Dance Indra, Metamorphosis, Sagar (The Ocean)
Ik ben geen fan van covers waar de zangpartij door een instrument vervangen is.
The sitar, over the course of an entire album, can get very irritating to listen to. I really only enjoyed a part of one song. I think it was Metamorphosis when the drums kicked in. The covers (Jumpin' Jack Flash and Light My Fire) sounded kind of cheesy. This album seems like more of a curiosity than anything.
Didn't mind some of it but the covers of 'Western' songs were a bit shonky.
I got through it. Didnt hate it or love it. Just some sitar for the morning. Nice mix or culture. Way to Jam it Ananda Skankar
The original songs were better than the covers, but I’m not sure why we needed yet another sitar album in this list
Usually when unusual instruments (sitar, bagpipes, etc) are added to western music it is just added on top of rather than integrated into the music. A few bands/albums/songs do this well, but this is not one of them.
I’m curious about this album. These aren’t original songs so what did this influence?
the sitar is a cool sounding instrument for one maybe two tracks, a full album is like having a shack full of SHACKs.
Better than Lucas Levia
just okay, not my favorite.
As I drove in my hot car from Bend to Redmond I found this more and more annoying.
1970’s curio. Not great
The original songs here are actually pretty good, but the covers of rock songs are unlistenable. Sitar really had a moment in the late 60's / early 70's didn't it. 2.5/5
Weird. Ok I guess. Liked the covers of songs I knew.
Maybe the gimmick of just playing anything on a traditional instrument worked in the 70s, but this album does not hold up today.
It’s okay a full album of this is a bit grating but it’s nice at the start.2/5
Pretty terrible.
Honestamente no se porque recomendaron este álbum.
Interesting album with interesting Indian style covers of 60’s classics. Worthy place on this list? Guess it’s something different, will I listen again probably not.
I doubt that the best sitar album ever is mainly covers of western 70s songs. Feels a bit like a quiz show where one should guess the song based on an instrumental version. I mean it's like saying that the best violin piece ever created is not Vivaldi but an instrumental version of Sk8terboy. That being said instrumental cover albums can be incredible like Brad Mehldau's Beatles album.
I was going to make the pun that Ananda can ‘sitar my face’. It transpires that Ananda Shankar is in fact a balding Indian bloke, so the pun was redacted. The cover of Light My Fire was a pleasant surprise, but the rest was… okay
- very hippy - very trippy - very the beatles when they got high in india but this is the real deal
Meh?
Novelty value only. Unenjoyable. The sitar is unpleasant.
Is this good sitar playing? Who the hell knows? I enjoyed the final track and the rock covers were amusing diversions. I have a feeling Ravi Shankar is way better than this guy.
INT
a couple of fun covers, but otherwise not my thing
enjoyed first half 2.5
Meh.
Meh
I’m sure it was appreciated in its time
Rating: 4/10 Maybe didn’t give it a fair shot, but not a fan.
Didn’t really grab my attention at all.
Seems like kind of a novelty record.
Covers sound like sitar-aoke (karaoke, geddit) and the albums drags. Shame.
The covers of "jumping jack flash" and "light my fire" were interesting. An entire instrumental, except for the final track, album that combines traditional Indian sitar with western rock. A compelling concept if done correctly. This one doesn't quite hit the mark. I found it good for background music
Weird covers, drags on in the middle
Sitar covers of classic rock hits…not something I would choose for myself but I respect the fact that it exists
A little too much sitar for my taste
I get it, but also not sure this works for me. The sitar is just so unique that pairing it with songs like "Light My Fire" just sounds...not great. I appreciate the effort here, but I would have preferred Shankar to take his own spin at it vs, just intro'n the sitar to make it "different". 2 stars
Joah. Nett. Aber nix besonderes
Not much to say here lol. It’s good instrumental stuff but casual sitar isn’t really my jive
2. Not bad. The type of music I would enjoy listening to while on hold or stuck in an elevator.
Westernized Sitar Music. I can't believe of all the amazing world music there is, this album that has been built on the western poppy influences made the list. 'Metamorphosis' is the only real positive on this album. It's the only song where barriers get broken and Shankar dares to take it a bit further.
Am I in an elevator that's stuck? Weird, because I hear no ringing. Very odd. Also why this is one of the 1001 albums I need to listen to. Maybe it's the wait music?
Okay, it was pretty wild to get some familiar covers in a Sitar world-music style. However, can't say i really want to listen to them more than as a curiosity.
Um, no. I love Sitar music but this is just terrible. Sitar covers of Rolling Stones songs and Light My Fire?? I just ... can't. I can get into some music fusion, but why these terrible songs?! In case this didn't come across (lol), this is not my thing AT ALL. But I will acknowledge (barf) that this album might have turned some bland white people onto sitar music. So sad.
Okay Indian music, just not something I Would normally listen to. This album does not change that.
je sais pas ce que ça fout là
Not too much of my thing but I can appreciate the good musicality
The first couple of songs were quite interesting, but I must say that I lost interest quite quickly, and that sitar really got quite dragging on my Western untrained ears. It was a weird experience that worked quite well on some songs because it matched quite well with the fact I was travelling on a train while listening to it, though I don't think this is the usual kind of trip that people listen to this sort of thing on. Favourite: Jumpin' Jack Flash
Enjoyed it but wouldn’t listen regularly
The originals are actually quite beautiful, but the covers (especially "Light My Fire") resemble the most painful of muzak. I'm sure this was an interesting idea in 1970 but it's not very interesting now.
The Stones and Doors covers were pleasurable. Everything else was something of a snooze.
pretty intresting the mix of indian music and normal beats would be better with actual lyrics and vocals
The gimmick behind this album is the mixing of rock music with Indian style music. The question is, does this gimmick create for a good album? For me, the true test case were the covers for Doors' Light My Fire and Stones' Jumpin' Jack Flash. The answer to the question "would I have liked these [cover] songs if I was unaware of the original versions" was a definite no. Hence why I relegate the album to the gimmick category.
Of course I remember Ravi Shankar playing with the Beatles, and teaching George Harrison how to play the Sitar. Although there are more and more Indian influences on modern music, I don't think the Sitar's fusion with western Rock music has been as successful as Ananda had hoped.
Pretty strange, not sure I'd seek out to listen to again
Telling that my favourite was the cover of Jumpin’ Jack Flash. Didn’t love it otherwise.
"Featuring sitar and Moog synthesizers", da love jo godt. Men blei diverre litt for mange coverlåta for meg
Why is this even on the list? Garden centre relaxation tape fodder.
Oh okay. Never heard the Rolling Stones in sitar before. Not for me, but it kept my toddler chill during breakfast.
I love the sitar and the traditional Indian sounds, but I think this works best when it's straying away from trying to bring in obvious western elements. Despite the cover of Light My Fire being in moments a standout, the whole thing has a tendency to feel like a lounge act. Not bad, by any means. I would've just preferred something a little more traditional and less jam-band-y.
I guess it is interesting. It is also background music for a movie or a restaurant and not something I'd ever listen to again
Half these songs are annoying covers of really popular songs with the rest maybe original? Who knows; can't imagine willingly wanting to listen to this but here we are. 3/10.
Hmmm, I struggled a bit with this. I just didn't feel that it stands up after 50 years
not for me but i thought the first song was ok
I would like it if it wasn't for all the covers. Like sitars, hate covers.
Classical Indian music has a real cool sound, I really adore the instruments. And here we have a fusion with western rock, except a little too pulled into appealing to western audiences. "Jumpin Jack Flash" and "Light my Fire" don't really have much substance besides being raga covers... Apparently the former was a huge club pick. "Mamata" sounds like some 60s Spanish hit, but I can't figure out what it was called. Really all the songs suffer from too much westernization. The drumming in "Metamorphisis" and rapid sitar playing comes off as repetitive and dull rather than enveloping as traditional Indian classical music is. I did like the ending of "Metamorphisis" though. The mysterious nature of "Sagar" was inviting, plus the exciting bridge to the 2nd half, and I actually preferred its 13-minute length... This is the kind of raga I look forward to. "Dance Indra" is a bit silly, but it reminds me of Banjo Kazooie music, so I give it a pass. The last song just sucks.
Didn't mind it, but it's still covers and still much worse than original songs. Got bored way before the end
Áhugavert en ekki minn tebolli.
Vaguely interesting, but not that special. Reasonable crossover.
weird
2/5 oriental versions of popular songs. Not of my liking.
Jumping Jack Flash with sitar is still Jumping Jack Flash.
There are so many better oriental albums out there, I was pretty disappointed with this one. An album with more than 1 cover song, shouldn't be considered as one of the best ever made...
All the key element were there so that I love this album but unfortunatly it didnt impress me like I thought it would...Too generic, not enough creative if you listen to a bit of world music..
It's strange, I felt inclined to love this album, but... Not so much after all. There are a few good moments, but I feel like it was put together for an american market, or at least an english market, and it felt somehow weird. A sitar album starting with a cover of Jumpin Jack Flash, I think that killed the vibe right at the beginning for me.
Pretty cool but I can only listen to so much of this
This album is raga rock / indipop music and was the first attempt by an Indian - Ananda Shankar - to combine Indian instruments with the rock genre. This combination had been done before, but only by Western people. Jimi Hendrix was working with Ananda Shankar and suggested they collaborated, but Ananda wanted to create his first album on his own. The music is psychedelic and beautiful. Fans of rock will love the covers of "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Light My Fire" on this album. They were the biggest hits, and I think they're amazing. This album gave Ananda Shankar international popularity and strengthened the ever-increasing want for more music genre combinations. This album is worth a listen!
Starts off strong but quickly gets mired in overlong arrangements that have no payoff. I don't mind the covers since they have some unique takes to offer on some classics, just wish the album could maintain the focus and energy found on its opening and closing tracks.
appreciated, but unexciting, warmed over.
Extraña fusión de música india con canciones de más renombre. Mucho instrumental, que no me ha transmitido nada
Opens strong with Jumpin' Jack Flash. Has a nice hippy rock feel to it even prior to the sitar. Pleasantly psychedelic. Sagar (The Ocean) goes into full atmospheric, psychadelia with 13 minutes of strange ominous rising tone and hollow 'wind effect' in background. Raghupati is bizarrely catchy and falls almost into a Polyphonic Spree hit. High points: Jumpin' Jack Flash, Light My Fire, Sagar (The Ocean), Raghupati.
meh
Not my jam
Maso.
I'm a big fan of Uncle Ravi but Ananda, not so much. Jumpin Jack Flash doesn't really work. The jamming on Metamorphosis is the highlight of the LP and the cover of The Doors is OK. Sugar, especially the first half, misses the mark. The bass guitar and synths don't add to it. The second half of the song picks up but the first half was a long 8 minutes. At the end of the day I don't think Ananda's Sitar capabilities or his tabla dude's capabilities are close to Uncle R's and his band's capabilities so he can't use those instruments to save the songs. It was a brave attempt at fusion and perhaps his efforts indirectly led to the excellent fusion bands in later generations. If so I should have rated higher, but I think that music would have come regardless of Ananda's cover of Jumpin' Jack.
Jumping Jack Flash was an interesting start, but when Light my fire came on it started to sound gimmicky and was cringe worthy. I actually like the traditional Indian songs better than the cheesy covers of Western Rock songs. Not sure that this record belongs on this list though.
First Listen. Rock classics India style. Not bad.
Oh sitar oh sitar sitar next to me! Never knew that WIll Young's 'Light My Fire' was a cover
It was fine. I was not particularly into it. It seemed to have fallen into the trap of influential at its time but I've heard it so far after its release. I've heard who they have influenced and enjoyed that far more.
Sitar would be a cool addition to some of the songs covered, but I'm not really interested in listening to sitar instrumentals for 40 minutes
Interesting, but sitar doesn't do it for me.
Not a fan of fusion music in general, why does Eastern sitar music need to blend with western rock n roll when it doesn't want to?
The novelty wears off pretty quick. Not much else going for this album.
2.5 only chingelchangel. goed voor achtergrond maar niet echt een bijzonder album imo. Indische stem wel goated, Welcome to the Kwik-E-Mart , thank you come again
eenmalig tof op de achtergrond
Sometimes, just sometimes, you can have too much sitar
covers with a sitar ?
I dont like the albums arround only one instrument, the only good point is the covers
Nope, really not interested in traditional Indian music. I guess it was well-played, but that didn't make me much more interested in it.
Don't like the western covers - feels too obvious somehow? And the Indian ones sounds like curry house background music. The long one (Ocean) was decent, but I won't listen again.
kinda of sitared out by mid way through track 1 - not sure covers of rock classics is the way to go
Starts strong. Then...doesn’t know what it is.
Good start, decent last song. Boring middle
The Sitar is fine in small doses but it does get a bit grating after a while. At least it wasn't 40 minutes of the bagpipes i suppose.
Easy listening lounge covers for while you're waiting for your main course: Mike Flowers Poppadoms
Started off OK, nosedive to the end
Not my bag. But could appreciate it a bit.
Not my bag
Very trippy, maybe too trippy for a Wednesday morning. But enjoyable none the less. Found the 13 min Sagar a bit of a struggle.
Not real my thing but wasnt painful to get through, and can appreciate something different
Maybe groundbreaking at the time but now seems like Muzak I”ve heard before a 100, mainly inIndian restaurants.
Muzak, thats all really!
A little busy
Not for me. The sitar is a beautiful instrument and the ambition to record a crossover style album is understandable, but it sounded more like muzak than anything fresh.
Disco interesante con instrumentos y ritmos indios. Buenas versiones de Jumping Jack Flash y Light muy Fire. Quizá alguna de las canciones de hace pesada ya que no es un tipo de música que adore. Disco correcto 2,5/5
indiano.. indiano
Too hippy
Bit much very annoying after the first couple of the tracks
Not bad. Instrumental covers with sitar instead of voice
Interesting... funny to hear a fusion of an Indian artist use rock influence instead of the other way around.
WIld
Weird combo…sitar with rumba beats. Verx experimental. Nice listening to it while working. But not my cup of tea.
cool
Austin powers anyone. I don’t mind a sitar bit a whole album of playing lead vocal melody lines? Nope
paired well with my morning yoga sesh
Sounds like a jaunty cover band. Not my cup of tea
This was not for me.
I don't dislike sitar music but I think the sitar versions of the songs on here I knew were all worse versions of those songs.
Not sure why this on the list. It just be going doin doin wearrrr di did id
Gimmick - no place on the list as good as the playing is
Fcking George Harrison man. The sitar has got be near the bottom of "mainstream" instruments. 😴
1/10

Sooooo, are you nominating this on the merit of sitar, or sitar covers of Western rock singles? Either way, this one struggles to rise above the idea of "novelty". Easy miss, imo.
Private session used for Spotify on this one. Indian takes on 60's hits, I see this as nothing more than a novelty, amusing to listen to once, except for the 13 minute dirge called Sagar, I didn't need to hear that at all.
Varför finns denna?
Couldn’t finish it
Not really my thing either, some of the covers of songs were pretty interesting, but not enough to salvage this. One star.
lol. So this is a cover album? Of classic American rock where the guitar is replaced with a shitty sitar and synths? Why does anyone need to hear this? Get real, 1001. Honestly, this feels insulting. I don’t give a shit about world music at all, but if you’re gonna throw it on the list—with the premise of its inclusion on the list being that I NEED to hear it before I die—at least throw on something that actually represents actual world music and not just a record that apes Eurocentric cultural norms but with a sitar. Plus, I hate the sitar. This one was always going to skew low for me. 3/10
Didn’t finish it. I really hate the sitar as an instrument.
Viac by ma to bavilo, keby to boli vlastne piesne. Tieto prevzaté veci sú také nijaké...
Fine sitar rock album from a Shankar. Only liked the light my fire cover and the rest were just okay. There's better.
Scitar. Does not age well and is silly.
If you like sitars you are in for a treat
Horrible
I couldn’t get through it.
Covers of songs you already know, but with a sitar! Why is the necessary listening?
sad poulobt dzma amat
Bot for me
1001 albums I couldve lived without hearing
nochmals 70er-Jahre-„Nicht-Meins“, diesmal mit indischem sitar-touch. obwohl, jumpin‘ jack flash hätte es beinahe noch gerettet.
Someone could probably make something fire sampling this record but I don’t see any situation I’d ever go back and listen to it myself
Il not a fan of sitar. It can be tasteful sometimes but even in the Beatles tracks it annoys me. Just cuz of that not a fan.
cheap
If I was a hippy in 1970 on acid then I imagine I would love the 13 minute ‘Sagar’ track…. But I’m not. The stones cover was quite good, the doors one less so…. 1.5
Absolutely awful. How anyone can listen to a sitar is beyond me.
1,4/5
Skip
not mad
Weird but cool
Track 6; circa 10:20: Please, God! No more! I'll talk! Whatever you want to know! Just. Make. It. Stop! Seriously, Robert... the best representation of Indian music you could find for your list is an album with instrumental covers of well-known Western songs performed in cliché sitar? Way to really push your comfort zone, mate. It's a sad, sad day when I have to fail an album with so much Moog, but somehow this challenge found a way to ruin even that. Astonishing.
Elevatormusik. Måske MEGET INFLUENTIAL elevatormusik, men stadig elevatormusik.
This wasn’t for me
Really?
Not my thing, at all. And then randomly he throws in a cover too, because why not.
If you've ever felt like the organ riff in Light My Fire wasn't annoying enough - man do I have a sitar album for you.
Not my style.
Ok, the wiki entry has be interested to hear how this one is. I know Ravi Shankar but nothing by his nephew. This is beginning to sound more like elevator or telephone hold music to my ears sadly. Quite pleased that has finally finished. Not one for me, even if it is apparently one that made the history books for some reason.
Not for me. 1/5
What are we doing here? 1001 albums to hear before I die and I'm listening to jumping jack flash played on a sitar
Review - God I hate sitar Rating - 1.5/10 Need to hear? NO
Interesting music with several interesting songs that are reasonable to listen to once.
A whole album of sitar solos just isn't for me.
What a load of shite, not even good elevator music
Can't dig this stuff
I have enjoyed sitar. So why does this suck so bad to me?
Un calvaire à écouter
This is not good.
The guy is obviously a proficient sitar player but I found this difficult to get through. There wasn't enough musically keeping me interested here, there's a 13 minute song (which isn't a problem - I've heard longer) that barely changes up at all. To me a lot of it was random twangs of the sitar just constant, and it did grate on me after a while.
Wallpaper music, nothing more. Listenable for a bit thats all. Certainly not groundbreaking
nah
Not my jam, the sitar cadence makes me anxious, and I don't like religious music.
Did I ever need to hear Jumpin Jack Flash and Light My Fire played on the sitar? No, I did not, but now I have. This was better than the Ravi Shankar album though because it was more than just the sitar. You know I don’t like instrumentals though.
Terrible

idk man i just don’t like listening to an instrument for like 8 songs straight they all sound the same and it’s really not my typa instrument. sounds like something you hear if u go to someone to tell u ur future
Thanks - but no thanks.
DNF, got a headache
LMAO Why is this in the list???
better than I thought it would be, but not good enough to re-listen.
Well that was weird.
Ananda Shankar by Ananda Shankar is, quite frankly, not for me. Despite only running to around 40 minutes, it felt like a bit of a slog to get through. At its core, this is a novelty record, taking well-known Western songs and reinterpreting them through the sitar. It sounds interesting in theory, but in practice it didn’t land. The fusion feels more gimmicky than innovative, and the arrangements don’t have enough depth or energy to keep you engaged. Favourite track: If I had to pick one, Jumpin’ Jack Flash stands out, mainly for the novelty of hearing The Rolling Stones in this style Least favourite tracks: The rest of the album blurred together and didn’t leave much of an impression Album artwork: Like the music, it didn’t really resonate and feels quite dated Overall, this might appeal to fans of experimental fusion or musical curiosities, but it missed the mark for me
Not really captivating, pretty forgettable, nothing interesting besides Rolling Stones in a sitar - which I'm not really sure is that interesting.
Blahhhhhhh.
no
Listening to this on the home from work made me depressed.
Lännen ja Intian suuri kohtaaminen kuulostaa turisteille kaupiteltavalta CD:ltä (ks. Jumpin' Jack Flash ja Light My Fire sitarilla tulkittuina). Yksi 13-minuuttinen jami herätti sympatiaa, mutta en usko ottavani sitäkään tehosoittoon. 1,5
Yeah nah. Sitar, big no no. Annoying after a minute. mhm No thanks Ananda
What the actual fuck...
Wasn’t keen on this. Felt like a novelty act
May have been groundbreaking in 1970 but not really that good. Covers are a bit meh! I’ve listened to much better sitar music
Sort of whimsical and if you are in the mood for that it would be great. A whole album of it gets a little tiring for me. It's creative and I'm sure the musician is great at what he does but I'm not sure I need to hear it again unless it was in a super light hearted setting where people are putting odd songs on for comedic effect.
Not gonna lie, the sitar versions of Jumpin' Jack Flash were a bit odd, but on a re-listen, I actually dug it a bit. The sitar being used as a vocal fill-in is a bit jarring but it works in this case. Overall, this isn't my jam, but I appreciate it. 1/5
Sitar covers of Rolling Stones songs?!?!?!?!?!?!?! No
Not my jam
Interesting idea, not my jam at all.
I did not need to hear this sitar album before I die. Nope.
I didn’t need to hear this before I died. This is just sitar karaoke.
This album should have been listed under "1001 Albums you would have wished you had died before listening to this dreck"... 40 minutes and 35 seconds I'll never get back...
Replace the sitar with any western instrument and nobody even notices this album.
Sitar music… light my fire is kinda cool.
WTAF?
Ok interessante ma non fa per me.
Good God. Abandoned after four songs.
started out okay then it just got weird.
No, no, no!
Hey Alexa, play that one album where that indian guy covers american songs but makes sure every song still sounds the same. Oh also Alexa blow out my brains
I like Indian music, but these covers are more muzak than meditative.
Vaya chorrada de álbum. Versiones de canciones clásicas tocadas por un tío con una trompetilla de feria.
Couldn’t find this on a free service.
Awful noise. Hated it.
india is a garbage country (racist)
Vaya chorrada de álbum. Versiones de canciones clásicas tocadas por un tío con una trompetilla de feria.
One of the weirdest additions yet.
Meh. Don't think sitar is my jam

“I wonder what Jumping Jack Flash would sound like on the sitar?” ……is a question no one really needed to know the answer to.
Ugh No thanks
Lovely music for the Polash Shit for my drive to work
Min bevidsthed er ikke blevet kemisk udvidet nok til at kunne se storheden i en sitar
Uh ... nah, dawg.
Not enough cow bell…too much sitar.
Usually im a big fan of sitar music. But this is too much
If you like sitar you’ll love this. If you don’t, like me, you won’t. This was awful.
1/5 Why, of all of the music from India, was this album included? Bad sitar covers of popular songs does not make one of the albums you should hear before you die.
Not my thing.
Not my thing
Cool to hear in a new age store, but not for every day listening.
Not for me. I could not finish it. I don't like the sound of the Sitar. I can understand how this was influential to global music being put on the map. I did not finish. 1/5
So because this guy did covers of great songs on an Indian instrument this ends up becoming one of the 1001 must hear albums ever made? Seems pretty silly. Just give me the originals. This wasn’t needed to be on the list. Covers were well done too but it’s not a must hear album. 2.0/10
i was excited when i first started listening, but then i realised the first couple of songs were just covers and from therei got less and less interested, to the point where the last couple of songs grated.
Experimental, but not in my wheelhouse.
🙄
Don't take drugs.
Gefällt mir nicht.
Awful. Just terrible
Mulle kuin korianteria
Jeg ved ikke om jeg har brug for at høre indiske covers at klassiske rocksange
not a huge sitar fan
Not my jam but I’m sure he got all the 70’s bobs and vagenes.
