Reviews (page 8 of 12)

Dope shit, turns out the really famous hit songs are actually more of their mediocre work.

Lots of energy, lots of snap. For just three guys, they create a ton of sound.

Island rock

Very fun album. I love the sound of “The Police”. The album as a whole does not feel sonically cohesive but there are so many hits that it feels like a “best of” compilation. Well done especially for a sophomore album.

Some good songs, a lot of not so good ones

Quite an interesting record, obviously has some big hits on it, and there is no denying that the trio are incredible musicians, but to me I don’t get as much enjoyment out of it as other bands of the period.

Feel like I should appreciated this one more than I did. The hits were there, but the filler just did not land with me.

The Police are fine. I find them hard to get very excited about and Sting is kind of difficult to take.

Message In A Bottle is super catchy, even with how repetitive Sting is. Most of the rest of the album misses the mark, with a little too much reggae for my liking. There are still some decent parts, but only Message In A Bottle makes the playlist.

It's okay. The singles were good and some of the album tracks are weird.

This is so problematic: white reggae, US rock stars, erm, Sting. It's also so bloody good.

Really good listen. 3.5/5

When these songs hit they’re extremely good, like a top vintage cru—but some of the songs are well below a standard of excellence associated with an all time great album. Great moments: Message in a Bottle, Bring on the Night, Walking on the Moon, and The Bed’s too Big Without You. I enjoyed less than expected because of the clunkers.

Very different to anything else around that time, and the big hits are still stand-outs. Disappointingly feels like a lot of filler here though - like they just couldn't be bothered

Much better than Synchronicity in my opinion - at least this one has somewhat of a vitality and edge to it. I didn’t want to turn it off half way through this time either. I think I prefer the more new-wave leaning songs over the reggae derivatives. Solid enough album all in all though 3/5 Standout tracks: Message in a Bottle (obviously) Bring on the Night Contact

Meh. 3/5

white punk rockers try reggae, and it kinda works?

Really wanted to like this album more than I do but there's only a few really good songs and a bunch of forgettable stuff.

I love message in a bottle- I have it on a ‘best of’ album- but not absolutely loving the rest of the album to be honest. I like it but not my fav album ever. Normally I’m one for the police because Sting’s voice is so unique and I like the relaxed rock vibe they’ve got going on but not so much with this album. Favourites- message in a bottle, does everyone stare, no time this time

I feel like I liked the Police alright 30 years ago, but the pseudo reggae thing has worn a bit thin. Still, there's some good stuff here, and a fun relisten.

Average. Not a fan of the live album. Some good songs some average.

'Message in a Bottle' carries the album. 'No Time This Time' was the other standout.

Starts off strong, with one of their classics. The only other track I know is Walking on the Moon from this one, another good one. The other stuff is sonically similar--you can imagein what you are going to get with this album. That said, there aren't a lot of other memorable tracks for me outside the hits. I like the Bed's too Big Without You, which I also feel like I've heard before. The album is decent, but not sure I'd buy the album based on this, and the other Police album I've heard on this list so far--Syncrhonicity. Not sure which I prefer of these two, probably this one. In any case, I'd proably stick to the greastest hits album with these guys based on these two albums. 3/5.

Solid album

A bit played out by 2025 standards but I could imagine this album being pretty fun when it came out.

“Message In A Bottle” is a really good song but I can’t listen to the police all day. 3.5/5

It's alright but I did feel like I got tired of it relatively quickly.

When are going to defund these bastards!? This one played in the work background. It was not unpleasant.

I only know the two hits on this album, so I'm curious what else it has to offer. I'm always a fan of hearing what a trio can pull off, covering all of the sonic ranges with no extra fat makes everyone's playing vital. The titular song is a teaser, a build up that fades away without a payout. It was fun while it lasted. It's Alright For You is a punk-pop tune that I didn't know The Police had in them. Despite the album title, I haven't really heard any reggae until Bring Out The Night, four tracks in. We get that Bo Diddley/Footloose feel on Deathwish. On Any Day and Does Everyone Stare has a welcome change towards a Madness off-the-cuff playful looseness, the former leaning a bit towards the Dead Milkmen. I can get over how much these songs sound like 80's Rush with a different vocalist and musical approach: the busy bassist often playing lead melody and highlighted in the mid ranges, the tight drum heads and precision in drumming, the muted arpeggios and ringing guitar tone of '80's Alex Lifeson. Like U2, I prefer to listen to the Police without consideration of the lead singer's self-important persona; let the music speak for itself. I enjoyed this more than expected, but ultimately I feel their excelled skill was in their musicianship and less in their songwriting.

I didn't put together the meaning of the title until reading Will's review mention it in conjunction with reggae. Of course! "White Reggae." Yeah, there was a decent amount of white reggae flavor here, along with a lot of energy. And one of my five-year-old's faves, "Message in a Bottle" is one of the singles. Not bad.

I liked this and had to save the title track on Spotify. I thought it was brilliant. This is another album where the drummer puts on a clinic. Stewart Copeland is a busy drummer and he keeps things interesting. Stings vocals sounded great. 3.5 if I could.

Firmly in the post punk new wave era, this album was more polished than their debut, but also less exciting. I think I enjoyed the rawness more.

Any other day is hilarious. I ended up listening twice. Great album, not super for me.

I liked it.

5/5 good

Some interesting bass lines. Fairly well mixed. Most of the songs don’t go anywhere but the ones that do are really nice.

Message in a Bottle slaps. Duh. Any other day is a weird ass song. Not really my type of jams, but stylistically the musicians all sound incredible. Sting shreds that bass throughout the whole album

Fun stuff, sort of fell off in the second half… message in a bottle and the title track absolutely rip though.

Message In A Bottle will forever be in my favourite songs. Fun listen the whole way through.

I love The Police, and Message in a Bottle and Walking on the Moon are two of my favorite Police songs, but the rest of this album was just kinda okay. I listened to it twice to make sure, and yeah, I give it three stars.

On Any Other Day has rocked me to my core.

Some great hits. Still find it odd hearing a white dude sing in a reggae style though. Nice that all music can be tried by all, but just rubs me the wrong way sometimes. Overall, will just return to the singles.

some very catchy and cool stuff and some is just not quite there yk

two of their best songs are on this album, “message in a bottle” and “walking on the moon”, but there’s a LOT of filler on this one.

Heard of them, didn't recognise any of the songs. I expected to like it more than I did? Don't know why it didn't attract me, maybe the reggae influences. It was okay.

This one surprised me! I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would. While there were some misses - I didn't love 'On any other day' - and while the transitions were a bit messy, for the most part it was very pleasant, distinctive, pop music

Nice album, not every song is equally strong 3/5

- its good, not kind if my style - easy listen, chill rock to be specific - will try to give it another listen, someday - underrated hits in the year it was released - great for background music when your doing chores

Black Sabbath, On Any Other Day - вообще выбивается из альбома.

pretty fun actually. the reggae thing is a platform for some catchy breakdowns. runs the gamut from good (deathwish; the big singles; bring on the night; contact) to inoffensive (regatta; the bed's too big) to cornball (it’s alright for you; on any other day). it's mostly good and tight and low stakes. even the corn made me drum along with it. some surprising atonal guitar stuff and effects use.

Message in a bottle is so good. The rest is alright.

A fantastic single followed by a bunch of harmless if slightly uninspired songs. Overall enjoyed but it got a bit background-like

So I've seen them live but apparently never listened to this entire album before. I knew the hits but not the whole album. Their deep cuts are funny, granted Any Other Day is a bit problematic in this day and age but outside of a lyric it still holds up. It's worth a listen or three. Its making me want to deep dive on all their albums.

“Message in a Bottle” is catchy but cheesy. “Bring on the Night” and “Walking on the Moon” are okay. The rest of this album made zero impact on me. I know people like the Police. I don’t fault them for doing so. But they honestly do nothing for me.

Totally fine album with a handful of really good songs. It didn't do a whole lot for me. 6/10

It's alright. Nothing memorable. Some interesting bits. Like most albums on the list it's a 3. Stand out song - message in a bottle

ok(-ish) but not my favourite (group, voice, song)

First half was 4/5, second half was 2/5

Didn't enjoy this as much as Synchronicity. Don't think the songs are as strong. Nothing wrong (although Sting's voice can become annoying), just not grabbing me.

Reggatta de Blanc – The Police I enjoyed this album, but would I buy it? Probably not. I think there are stronger albums out there with more of that reggae-inspired sound. That said, it does have some classics—Walking on the Moon is a standout for me. I love that track.

I like the band, but didn't enjoy the B sides on this one as much as other Police albums

Ganska najs faktiskt. Tredje låten är riktigt bra.

A great first half and a mediocre second. Really enjoyed the well known singles but latter songs less interesting

Some solid hits. Always good vibes.

how did I ever NOT know Sting was a Geordie? some of these songs are just funny & I didn’t expect that in a world of halves once again a 3.5 but as it is, a 3

I was hoping to find a few songs to like from the album that I'd never heard of before. But I only liked the hits.

The Police are great. I've heard many of these songs.

3 excellent musicians make 1 pretty good album

love the police but thinking this album is essential is laughable

ACAB except these police.

SOS to the world, it’s the call of the lonely. One hundred billion bottles wasted up on the shore. We aren’t alone in being lonely anymore. It’s a song about suicide? Or at least a cry for help? White Reggae! Regatta de Blache. Jah! Walking on the Moon is probably the only decent track. Rest of the album is kinda corny.

Very fun, and the drummers(?) songs were funny.

In the year of our lord 2025, I am not confident in discussing the questionable taste of a band named "The Police" naming their album "White Reggae." Hindsight, am I right? I'm let off the hook a bit by the fact that this is not reggae - white or otherwise. It's not not there, but more of an homage than a straight up appropriation. Maybe I'm making excuses, I don't know. Message in a Bottle is a solid start to the album. Walking on the Moon - I just love the guitar riffs on this, with the strolling beat - a classic. No Time This Time is a hard skip, and really out of place here.

Better than Coldplay.

I somehow never put together that The Police was reggae rock, and here I am listening to Reggatta De Blanc. It’s kinda crazy. A lotta good tracks on here though

I don't think this is an album of serious music but I thought it was okay

yeah i mess with the police on occasion (thanks dad). “message in a bottle” is always good. BUT “it’s alright for you” might have soloed. “contact” was also REALLY good, very groovy. i like the bass. overall pretty solid. would give a 3.5/5 but that isn’t possible so a 3/5.

Fun / jaunty, but some cringy lyrics (I guess to be expected from The Police)

I’ve never listened to this album

The Police have always been more of a greatest hits type band for me. This is a solid outing, but I'd rather have an album of 10 of my own selections. Still, it's an interesting and varied release. "Walking on the Moon" has never really done it for me.

A few great tracks here, and a few that I quite disliked. But what a unique sound they had together. Maybe it would grow on me upon further listens.

Solid, classic The Police. 3.5 stars. We will go three, because it leaves a little on the bone. .

I’ve never been a huge fan of the Police, but I do respect that they’ve got their own unique sound that’s hard to categorize. Enjoyed the album and how they weaved the reggae influence into it. May listen again down the road.

It was alright, it’l just didn’t really say anything that I was interested in hearing.

7 out of 10

It's pretty good. I liked it better than the last recommended album. I have listened to this album and The Police before. I feel their hit songs are better than the lesser-known songs on this album.

Message in the bottle, walking on the moon

Never really been much of a "The Police" fan, as I've always found them a bit tacky. The white boy reggae stuff seems a bit toothless to me, and the soft rock stuff never caught my interest either. While Sting remains an icon, I cannot help but find him and his projects a bit bland. With that being said I've never heard a full album by them, generally only been exposed to their hits. Gonna take this as an opportunity to reevaluate my view on this band, and perhaps after a full listen I'll come out the other end with a changed opinion. Message in a Bottle One of the hits, been through a phase where I really liked this song and another where I hated it. Has an alright tempo to it. The vocal melody is quite well written, contrasts well against the instrumental. The accent is a bit goofy. Runs out of steam a bit, could do with a slightly shorter runtime. Don't find it quite as annoying as I used to. Decent. 3.5/5 Regatta De Blanc Really rhythmic, keeps building ontop of itself adding various different elements to enhance the rhythm and tempo. Great foundational bassline. The hollering vocals also do a lot to keep the song from going stale, the simple addition has the effect of building some counterpoints to balance out the mix. Good. 4/5 It's Alright For You Has a grittier, slight garageier sound. The chorus sounds kinda uninspired though the post chorus instrumental really makes up for it. A fast paced rock track that doesn't do anything spectacular, but works for what it is. Decent. 3.5/5 Bring On The Night Has some pretty cool riffage in the intro. The arpeggios sound pleasant. I find the vocals quite jarring. Really don't like how they're produced. They sit really far back in the mix, and fall at a strange volume level which is sort of distracting. There's a good melody there though. Instrumentally it remains interesting throughout, even sporting some bleak dissonant moments that shatter the otherwise pleasant vibe. Can see it growing on me if I can get over the vocals. Good. 4/5 Deathwish The instrumental is plucky and fun, though its at the risk of being repetitive. The drums are quite loud in the mix. Wish the vocals had more of a punch to them, they contrast a bit too much with the instrumental with their distant style. Wish the song had more variety to it, doesn't really have any moment where the tension is released leading it to sound sort of anticlimatic. Fine. 3/5 Walking on the Moon Another one of the hits. Can't say I have much of a relationship with this one, though I've definitely heard it before. The opening bass and loud reverby guitar definitely leaves an impression. Its continued use veers towards melodramatic. The lyrics are extremely cheesy. Has a pretty weak chorus in contrast with the really dramatic production. Feels almost at odds with the atmosphere created by the instrumentation. A bit messy, but pulls itself together somewhat. Fine. 3/5 On Any Other Day The lyrics sound like they belong to a rejected Syd Barrett era Pink Floyd B-side. Sounds quirky in all the wrong ways. The extremely average rock instrumental doesn't help, even if the base riff is kinda decent. Did not like. 2/5 The Bed's Too Big Without You Cheesy song title. Judging by it I was expecting a really tacky power ballad for some reason. Suprised by the groovy infectious rhythm. Even the faux reggae style vocals add something here, a decent counter measure against the very uniform instrumental. They add a surprising amount of unpredictability and fluidity to the track. Love every rhythmic element involved in this song, really comes together for something special. Fantastic. 5/5 Contact There's an interesting composition in here, structurally the track is really interesting. The focus on the bass as the main instrument, and the strange picky guitars make the song quite unique. The vocals are really strange, though they work with the instrumental they never really grip me. Good. 4/5 Does Everyone Stare Don't love the piano sound, it's kinda overpowering, making the vocals sound really quiet. Interesting implementation of a sample. Weird concept, gives me stalker vibes. Has an overall jarring feel mainly because of the annoying piano. That's not a great chorus. Did not like. 2/5 No Time This Time Fast! Terrible vocal effect for this song. The production sounds kinda hollow and toothless. Jarring chorus. Kind of a boring track and disappoimting finish. Has a pretty alright guitar riff, but that's kinda it. Average. 2.5/5 Went by much faster than I had anticipated. While not every track fell to my taste, I remained entertained throughout never really zoning out or losing attention. Can't say this is the best thing I've ever heard, but it's pretty charming at times, shows plenty of personality and offers a series of varied and diverse tracks. The instrumentation goes through several alterations throughout, focusing on various assets within the band giving each member a time in the spotlight. While the vocals are a bit corny at times, they're performed by someone giving their all and committing to their part which keeps it consistent at least. There are several great guitar moments, even some solos that get pretty entertaining. The album really shines when it allows itself to get a groove going, creating dancable rhythms at several occasions. Not anything mindblowing, but better than expected. 3/5 Fave track. The Bed's Too Big Without You Least fave track. Does Everyone Stare

Tight drumming & grooves.

Whilst message in a bottle and walking on the moon are tunes and the soundtrack to my youth, once you've heard those songs, there's nothing really different to hear in this album.

muita música boa no início e muita música "inofensiva" no final. "message in a bottle" é incrível, "Regatta De Blanc" é muito foda e o resto do álbum é bem bom, mas não tem funcionou muito, pra mim. a última música é bem estranha. /n

Really like the police but album almost felt too short. Some jams in it tho and quirky music. Just a little boring.

The Police are cool, but mostly because Sting is cool. Still, they have an unmistakable sound.

I must have listened to this album at some point as I've owned a vinyl copy for 20+ years but I have very little recollection of any of the songs except for the singles - and they still stand out a mile. Mostly filler with a couple of absolute killers.

My second favorite white reggae band after 311.

Freakky ahh man. Honestly, It didn’t really do much for me…I feel a little sad about that. Favorite song is When Doves Cry

You can tell they are starting to gel a hit better as a band on this album. Still not in my top three Police albums. It is just ok.

Police fan but it’s decent overall and beginning of a great band

I really wanted to give this a four but I just don't think it gets to a 4. If tracks 2, 7, and 9 weren't on this it would probably get a 4 but they really drag down the album. They just aren't good. Otherwise The Police sound really good. "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon" are classics but otherwise the songs are either okay and decent or kinda bleh. Kinda disappointed I was expecting big things from them.

this is not one of their better albums. yes, they have honed in on their "sound", but lyrics are super weak. way too much repeating same refrain over, & over, & over. their final 2 albums are much, much better. and Copeland's "on any other day" is just painful.

Not bad but not for me

The songs didn't click for me. Good tunes though.

Þetta var bara alls ekkert spes. Message in a bottle er gott lag.

Rock/pop. In some places I'm reminded of much later stuff - It's Alright for You reminds me of QOTSA. Also, Caribbean/latin/reggae influences - c.f. Walking on the Moon Some post-punk in there too Best track (ignoring previously known) - The Bed's too Big Without You

Pretty cool Not what i was expecting Very rock n roll Less slow! Not my thing but not bad

paar banger

While I liked it, no song quite impressed me. I'm also not a big fan of the reggae-inspired rhythms. 7/10 fave: message in a bottle

I liked this better than anticipated.

Really good just hate stings voice

This album is pretty fun, though I like Synchronicity better than this, despite the fact that I wasn't terribly charitable in my review of that album. It's cool getting to see how reggae and other music brought to the British Isles by immigrants influenced the rock that was coming out of the punk scene. I always thought that the Police got into reggae later, but it seems like it was a part of their sound from early on. 3/5 This album is fun overall, but The Police have a way of putting songs that are a chore to listen to on their albums that I don't understand.

L'album s'ouvre sur "Message in a Bottle". Ensuite, on a "Walking on the Moon".

-I enjoyed It's Alright For You the best -Message in a Bottle was pure nostalgia -Overall... It was okay.

It’s good, it’s The Cars, how could it not be? However, it doesn’t grab hold of me in any particular way.

The two hits are good but the rest is not of interest to me. 3 stars or C-.

As an album, fairly average outside the 2-3 hit songs, probably a ⭐⭐⭐ to be fair

I like a lot of The Police songs, but I'm about 75/25 don't like/like. The way the melodies often bounce up and down instead of flowing chromatically bugs me.

Message in a bottle is good, but the tempo seems a bit off in comparison with modern music. Walking on the moon is good. ...I'm not high enough for "on any other day". 3.4/5

Another good one from them. As a whole, the album is a fine vibe and fairly consistent.

Kedvenc/Favourite: On Any Other Day Megvolt a flow, élvezhető volt így egyben, de valahogy mégsem fogott meg igazán. It had a flow, it was enjoyable, but somehow it just didn't really pull me in. It was a bit slurred, and the songs themselves didn't really go anywhere for me. It was good, but I think there are better Police albums.

Strong singles, drags a bit in last half.

So fun and jaunty. Definitely feel good music, carried by strong vocals.

Fav tracks: message in a bottle, walking on the moon. Fine but a little repetitive for my taste

I had never listened to this album in full but I used to love the song "Bring on the Night," and I still do. I think that song is beautiful! Having this song next to the post-punk vibe of "It's Alright For You" shows the range of the Police. Overall, this album gives me family barbecue vibes -- why? I think maybe we listened to "Message in a Bottle" a lot as a family so it came on for July 4th get-togethers. This was solidified by the hypermasculinist "On Any Other Day," which felt like a song written by a little boy. Glad that Sting wasn't singing this one primarily because it made me feel like it wasn't actually a Police song. Anyway -- because of the strength of a few songs on this album, it gets a three! I don't feel the pull to listen to much of this album again besides "Bring on the Night" really.

Pleasantly surprised. Message in a bottle one of my all time favourite songs but rest of the album was interesting and varied. Really straddles the line but didn’t quite do enough for 4. 3.5/5

message in a bottle is pretty cool

I can’t help to get offended when the cultural appropriation runs so deep that even the accent is faked. I’m not sure why The Police don’t get more shit for their blue-eyed reggae, but it has always rubbed me the wrong way. Sting’s adoption of a Rastafarian accent seals the deal for me. Yes, a few of the songs are catchy, but I can’t get over the fact that there are so many actual Jamaican reggae voices that don’t reach American ears because of thieves like these. 3.2/5

The 4 'hits' are all great. The Bed's... being a forgotten gem. In fact all the Sting songs are quality (maybe that's why his head exploded a few years down the road). Though could the same man who wrote 'Walked out this morning, don't believe what I saw 100 billion bottles washed up on the shore' have also really written 'Giant steps are what you take, I hope my leg don't break'?? Couple of duds, Deathwish and Any Other Day bring it back down to earth. Brilliant drumming, Stewart Copeland has always been one of my favourites. Hmmm 3 or 4?

never a big Police fan - apart from the singles, nothing here to make me one

the police are pretty good, not my fav but I liked the album.

Weird album but good. I liked it and would listen again. 3.4/5

No complaints, they're exactly what you expect, pretty listenable

I don’t mind the Police, but I’ve never really gotten into them either. I seem to like the more reggae/punk stuff, songs like “It’s Alright For You” and “Walking on the Moon” more than I do their more well known songs. Overall they’re good, but not something that I’m likely to circle back to, 3 stars.

Message in a Bottle starts the album so strong that the rest of the album pales compared to it. The Police know how to do their thing, but by the second side I just want it to be over with. Also the band had to re-record a previously released B-side to fill up the album(the closer No Time This Time was B-side of So Lonely of the previous album). It is more interesting than UB40, has a better single, but other than the opener and closer I dont like much this album. Copeland does have some amazing drumming chops https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu5zxlQOfyM

It was OK kinda dancey some fun beats but nothing great.

Interesting reggae-ish sound. Couple good songs but didn’t really feel it gelled as an album.

Sting's Bass lines were the best part of the album to me. Several very good songs, but On Any Other Day didn't fit and took me out of it. I'd prefer to give it a 3.5 but it's closer to a 4 than a 3 for me

It didn't really like any of the tracks I didn't already know.

Ah, The Police. Who doesn’t like a “best of” collection from this band? Unfortunately, whenever I’ve listened to their studio albums I’m consistently of the opinion that they are not much cop. If you’ll excuse the weak pun. This album draws a line in the sand on their rawer, more 70’s influenced sound with its post-punk, ska-infused leanings, and is decidedly less polished than Zenyatta Mondatta (first album I ever bought) which audibly leapt into the next decade, yet proved equally as flawed and inconsistent. I desperately wanted to love this album after not listening to it in years, but as ever felt let down at the end of an police album.

Bättre än REM, men fortfarande inget som fastnar. Funkar att ha i bakgrunden

This is an okay album, but nothing hits quite like “Message in a Bottle” and they give it you right off the top. The rest has its moments, but never reaches the same level, making it a decent but unremarkable listen.

Didn't think this would be so rough but I had to skip a few songs halfway through. Genuine moments of greatness (message in a bottle, the little chorus riff of walking on the moon) but everything else is all over the place, songs get repetitive internally, and just in general not my bag 3 but close to a 2

Uh...I'm not entirely sure what to think about this. Some songs were pretty good, some were objectively....not as good.... Message in a Bottle is good, but it doesn't feel a lot like the rest of the album. And the last few tracks felt so disjointed from the rest of the album. Individually the songs were fine. Collectively they were an odd choice.

I'm a bit unimpressed. Maybe I need repetition?

I will give this one a 3.5. Message in a bottle is by far the best song on here. I’ll definitely listen to more of the police.

meh. never been a big Police fan

solid 3

Some great songs, but a lot of fillers too.

I sort of want to like this more than I actually do. It's in one ear and out the other for me. A bit MoR.

Uneven and very basic songwriting but I give them an A for effort - The Police always bring a lot of energy.

Got a little obsessed with the riff in Bring On The Night. Is Sting man or instrument?

Overall liked this and all the classics I know from it, but didn’t feel very cohesive (which maybe was intentional). Giving it a 3!

Reggae music aireeeee

The truest 3. Wouldn’t kick it out of bed; not mind blowing.

EEEEOOOOOEEEAAAYYYYOOOO

It's the Police. They're fine. Sometimes veering into silly reggae stuff. But mostly just an easy background rhythm. I do appreciate how each track has a pretty different vibe.

My initial impression was that Reggatta De Blanc kinda sucks... but then, on the second listen I was under an impression it's better than I thought. But then, it's still not something I can imagine myself listening to daily. Could it be a 4? Maybe. Maybe it'd need more time. Obviously, Message In A Bottle carries this album hard. Kinda funny how from what I've heard from The Police I was mostly impressed, but then their albums fall short of the overall impression. Not too hard.

mid 3/5

Was not my favorite, had some good tracks but I didn’t really find much click with me here. Singer was good and unique, and the instrumentation was fun but it was not the best in my opinion. Best tracks for me are: Bring On The Night, Does Everyone Stare, and On Any Other Day.

A couple of good songs

I really enjoyed this album. Of course, I am familiar the hits/singles, but they bring much of the same character throughout the whole record along with a vibe that is distinctly theirs. I still don't quite know what to make of them. Clearly, they are all very talented, and Sting's vocal range and playfulness kept me interested throughout.

I have wondered why the Police don’t inspire me, especially as I so love late 70s post punk and (some) new wave. I think for me the dividing line usually comes down to lyrics… in the case of the Police the lyrics aren’t bad, just not at all provocative. It’s very…vanilla. Very… reggatta de blanc. No hate. I can appreciate that others love ‘em, just something missing for me here.

This was alright

This was more enjoyable than I thought! Favs: Message in a bottle Walking on the moon The bed’s too big without you

Very fun, I enjoyed - 3.5/5 Standout tracks: - Message In A Bottle 5/5: This song transports me back to August 2007 which is lovely, also one of the best songs ever written. - Contact 4/5: The last part is especially good.

The Police was one of those groups who gained greater success when MTV started. This album had two tunes played a lot on radio, and the rest of the album (which I haven’t heard till now) seems very representative of their music.

I'm ashamed to admit that knowing Sting is in the Police is one of those things I think I've learned at least 5 times. They're just too firmly embedded as an "pre-me-listening-to-music" band, and inexorably linked with Genesis in my mind (because of an isomorphic "wait, really?" fact with Phil Collins, and, apparently, Peter Gabriel). I wonder if there are any solo artists who make it big and then go on to be a band, or if it's only the other way around. Anyway, I know 'Message in Bottle' already, which is a mid-level bop. I also like 'Walking on the Moon' because it sounds very similar to the other Police songs I know (and it is reggae-y). 'Contact' too. Lowlight: 'No Time This Time' (frenetic! not in a fun way!)

3 maybe 4

The Police are a singles band. There i said it.

Not the biggest Police fan, but I am a fan of Sting. Pretty good album.

It's an OK album, with some decently good songs. I'm not sure it lives up to the hype, though. Favorite song: "Walking On The Moon"

The singles are good, the rest of the songs are just mid.

3 stars

Man, when they tried to get weird here, the just sound bad. But there's some strong stuff on here. Overall, I think the Police work best on a greatest hits album.

when it was good it was gooood but when it was meh it was mehhh 2.5 stars

Fast paced, I knew the hits before. Bit distracted when listening but love the singles.

Better than expected...

A few quality songs on this- Message in a Bottle and The Bed's Too Big being two of them - but overall too much chaff to warrant above a three.

fun! also kind of sucked!

The singles are the highlights, of course, but the rest of the album is surprisingly playful.

7/10 Highlights Walking on the moon On Any Other Day (verrassing)

En edelleenkään ole brittiladreggaen suurin fani, mut onneks tässä on aika vähän sitä, Message in A Bottlessa sitä on just sopivasti mausteena. Olisin voinu tykätä tästä enemmän, jos oisin elänyt kasarilla. Meininki on nimittäin aika hyvä, rouhea. Ja alan lämmetä lauluäänen kimeydelle.

Good album

Quem diria que The Police seria um upbeatzinho. Esse álbum bem reggae é bem legal. Além de Message in a Bottle e Walking on the Moon eu gostei de Does Everyone Stare e Reggatta de Blanc

a voz do sting me irrita em algumas músicas.... no mais, um rockzinho bem leve de se ouvir e "the bed's too big without you" tem umas bassline incrivel

Personally I don't think the album is bad. Just not something I'd listen to consistently, just not really my style. Message in a Bottle is a definitive classic, of course.

C'était cool :emoji pouce:

The only Police I respect are Sting, Stewart Copeland, and Andy Summers. Reggatta De Blanc was always my favorite Police album, primarily due to "Message in a Bottle" and "Walking on the Moon", but also how the album feels like it's meant to be listened to at night. I don't know how else to describe it. The fusion of reggae, post-punk, and occasionally samba(?) make for an entertaining listen, but ultimately the mood can't carry the whole release. The entire second half of the record tends to drag

I'm a rastafarian, Targaryen I got some dragons and they're Very scary and Been here and there and then I've Been everywhere again rastafarian, Targa Call me Daenerys Targaryen When you wanna reach me And if you feel the love Then you can call me Khaleesi Got so many names i'm Queen of the Andals Queen of the Meereen Yeah! You can kiss m' sandals

“White Reggae” is crazy 😭😭

This album from The Police packs a punch, especially considering it's just three dudes making a consistent wall of sound on several tracks! Stewart Copeland's drumming is tight as hell, and the whole rhythm section really brings it throughout the record. But let's be real - the album's got its issues. A bunch of tracks feel like they're not quite done cookin and give the impression they threw in some demos to fill space. On the album's length, it kills the momentum created by the most solid tracks. "Message in a Bottle", for instance, is a great song which pass the test of time. That intro riff? Still catchy as ever, even after all these years. Only issue? It opens the album and from there on you have this feeling of sliding down with no song catching up to the level of this intro. Overall, it's a mixed bag. A great song, some really good but also too many fillers to ignore.

As with all there albums there’s the hits and then there’s the filler. The filler on this one is a bit poor but the hits are top notch so difficult to really rate this one!

The Police will always be a fun band with fun songs. This album opens very strongly with "Message In A Bottle" (one of the band's best imo) and then afterwards "Bring On The Night" is pretty good too I guess. Yea it's mostly nothing that exciting but an easy listen nonetheless. Favorite track: Message In A Bottle

it was decent definitely not my style of music tho

I'm not a huge Police fan, but this is probably my favorite record of theirs. The ska influence comes out a bit more on this one, which I dig.

Their best was still to come

3 - just another one song police album

To gode sange

I have always enjoyed the singles - had not listened to the album previously and not sure what to make of it after 3 listens. It sounds like they are having fun - but I think of Sting as being so po faced and serious that it does not quite ring true for me. A disappointing 3.

overrated

This is such an average album. I have never understood the hype with Sting or the Police. There are a handful of good songs on this like message in a bottle and walking on the moon and some hidden gems I had never heard of like no time this time and the bed is too big without you. The rest of the album is very meh though. Favourite song: Message in a bottle Least favourite: Reggatta de blanc Album artwork: Iconic cover

Ah... finally... an album I don't have to set aside half my day to get through... There are some enjoyable nuggets in here (mostly the songs written by Sting), but there are an equal number of tracks that feel kinda throwaway to me...

Sending out an SOS... Second half of the album is somewhat dull

Message In a Bottle and Walking On The Moon are two strong songs however, I am dissapointed by all other songs on the album

Play that funky music, white boy

Ég fíla Police eða öllu heldur hvað þeir eru að gera. Reggae-rokk. Mér finnst það takast mjög vel oftast nær. Ég fíla báða tónlistarstílana. Mér finnst lögin skemmtileg. Samt næ ég engri tengingu og þetta endar sem miðjumoð hjá mér þrátt fyrir að öll hráefnin séu frábær og mér að skapi. Undarlegt.

“Message In A Bottle” is an absolutely perfect song and deserves all the awards. The perfect amount of feverish British Post-Punk, sweaty 3-4 piece band singles, tight, tight instrumentals. With the intriguing, confusing lead lyrics told through Sting’s boyish, strangely-accented singing. All the elements of a hit. So tight. Sounds bigger than the entire rest of the album, combined. Band’s going for broke. Aaaaand… the rest of the album. An absolutely hilarious second single in “Walking on the Moon,” funny reggae-influenced, rock-tinged record. Is this right around the release of Catch A Fire? Sounds so related to that record’s polished rock-ready reggae. They can’t swing it like the Jamaicans, but hey… the album literally translates to “white reggae,” right? I read that the band hardly had any songs ready for the recording session, and… it sounds like it. Plenty of duds. Fun to hear a good band play it out! But a lot of dead air. If “It’s Alright For You” was the lasting legacy of The Police, they’d never get a second album. And that’s The Police! A sometimes frustrating, uneven band. Rare that they get an album that behaves itself all the way though. (I think Synchronicity is about as close as they get?) But… absolutely one of a kind band, not a perfect album of any stretch, but worth anyone’s time. 3/5

A bit of a bore compared to Outlandos d'Amour (which fucking RULES) but there are some truly great songs here. I really liked The Bed's Too Big Without You, Bring On The Night, Walking On The Moon, No Time This Time and of course Message In The Bottle. The rest I could do without. A four for the half of the album that's very good and a two for the other half that is a complete bore.

Some of the songs on this album are great, others feel half baked. They are great musicians but their sound isn't really my cup of tea. I tend to like the songs that lean more towards the post punk sound, rather than the ones that lean into reggae, but that's just my opinion, and I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me.

This is a neat album that does well to showcase The Police’s unique synthesis of genres. The good songs are great - “Message in a Bottle”, “Bring On the Night”, “Deathwish” - but there are also a handful of songs that feel like filler or just plain duds. “It’s Alright For You” is definitely my least favorite song on the album, whereas I’m not sure what to make of “On Any Other Day”, “Contact”, and “Does Everyone Stare”. This is probably the most perplexing album for me yet. My initial impression is a solid 6.5 or 7 out of 10. I feel like if I come back to this album at a later date, which I’m happy to do, that rating would change. I’m just not sure if it would be up or down.

Good album, but not as good as the other ones by the band. In fact, this is my personal least favorite Police album, but it does have some bangers like Message in a Bottle, Walking on the Moon, and No Time This Time (underrated track)

Did not expect the reggae sound

Every song has its own vibe? Some are punky, some are reggae -like...but in a not-well-connected way. I didn't like the white washed reggae. Confused would be my word of choice for this album. Positive side: it was not boring.

Nothing exciting

6.5/10 Favourite tracks: Walking on the Moon, Bring on the Night

Not a big Police fan, but this was not bad. I liked a lot of the lyrics and feel of the album. Would be a 3.5, but going 3 as it still doesn't really grab me.

Good to sing along to.

I have never owned a Police album, so I only know the hits. Not a bad album, I doubt I would listen to it in full again, but I did enjoy It's all right for you. However, I can do without Everyone Stares.

One of the bricks in the wall of sound of my college days.

It's a solid album. Nothing to crazy, but it holds som classic songs.

There's a lot to like about this album, especially Stewart Copeland. But two things bother me to no end: one is how goofy Sting sounds sometimes and two is the fact that they simply do not know how to end a song

Some good songs, distinct Police sound.

A few great songs but overall was not a huge fan of this one

Iconic sound, with a few big hits. Sting brings his funky bass and slightly odd accent.

Quite quickly paced, a nice album with unusual song structure. Weirdly synchronized. I think Deathwish has great instrumentals.

Like all Police albums mixed. Some classics some fillers

Other than the hits “Message in a Bottle” and “Walking on the Moon”, which I’d heard before, the only song that caught my attention was “Bring on the Night”. Other than that, it’s a 1 or 2 star album

Opening track is pretty solid. Reminds me of Bad Suns. Bring on the night has good instrumentals but I'm not exactly sold on vocals. No from me on deathwish. Walking on the moon is chill but not sold on the vocals still. This record might not be for me. What even is on any other day. The baseline in the beds too big without you is pretty neat. No time this time sucks

Nice driving rhythm the whole album long plus the hits "Message In A Bottle" and "Walking On The Moon". But I´m not 100% into his vocals. Strong three stars for this album. 3,5

It’s ok. I have a large respect for the police but can never vibe with any of their albums

With a title like this, who would have thought this was by The Police? Copeland’s intricate cymbal work and complex rhythms contribute significantly to the overall sound of the album. Sting’s bass lines provide a driving force behind many songs, while Andy Summers’ echoic guitar chords add depth to the arrangements. It's a solid album, but nothing blew me away. Favorite Song: "Message In A Bottle"

Message in a bottle: a song about loneliness written in the guise of a clever hook and snappy groove. Regatta de blanc: I don’t understand the need to include what is essentially an instrumental piece where there isn’t much variation in the music or the lyrics. It’s alright for you: trying really hard to be punk with some blues lilts. Want to be the ramones. It’s ok. Some good guitar work. Bring on the night: catchy as hell. Sounds like edge of seventeen. But lyrically it’s more complicated than its predecessors so far. Deathwish: I’m all for some jam songs but this one becomes massively repetitive and by then end you are grateful for it being over. Walking on the moon: sets a mood immediately. Fun song. Would be fine on a playlist in the background. Not life changing. On any other day: weird and quirky song. Kind of funny. It’s definitely a vibe but not for everyone. The beds too big without you: ok. Another song that sounds like the others. Contact: I’m noticing that the songs are simple. Same phrases again and again. It’s meh. Does everyone stare: something a bit different. Piano led song. Kind of goofy. But a little creepy. Which is par for the course when written by Stephen Copeland. It builds pretty well. No time this time: feeling their “punk” roots. Odd filter on the vocals. Again, kind of becomes monotonous. Overall: a great effort from a sophomore release where it seems like we are enjoying the moments in the studio where it seems to be clicking. So we indulge a bit rather than be specific in our contributions. But then we kind of rely on the same phrasing again and again in the songs. So variety is rare. Not a bad entrance. But just an ok album.

Message in a Bottle, otherwise so meh

That was fine.

Some standouts but felt like a lot of filler. An enjoyable listen but shan't be rushing back to listen to the whole album, but probably more selected Police songs.

Not a fan of the police

Reggae rock is meah

Fun new wave rock. The singles off this album are timeless. Sting's vocals are great and so are the guitar effects they use. Some songs aside from the singles aren't really memorable but still a good album that is really evocative of a time and place. 3.75/4 (but not a 4 so I have to round down.)

Every Police album sounds the same. Solid singles band though.

I once saw Sting perform on Halloween and he wore a bumblebee costume. That was the best part of the concert. Iconic songs on this, but the compilation falls flat.

Solid but they have better

The second side of this is near perfect. Unfortunately, besides the killer opening track, the first half leans too much into pastiche Reggae rock that becomes grating by the end of the last song on the A-side. Message in a Bottle is an amazing song nonetheless, but I find The Police to be much better when they lean into their new wave sound.

With the exception of a few great singles (Message in a Bottle) the Police for me are the 70s answer to Red Hot Chilli Peppers with slightly better lyrics and bass

I didn't know what to expect, but I wasn't expecting that. Many different styles were dived into throughout whilst retaining the punk sound, I like albums that do that. Towards the middle it got a bit meh but picked up again. Highlights: Reggatta De Blanc It's Alright For You No Time This Time

There’s a simmering arrogance and tension between the group but it all comes together to make deceptively catchy, complex pop. At times it tips over into alienating pretension but when it works, it’s very good.

It’s the Police, sting has a great voice, album is blah. 3/5

Not bad, I guess ... Message in a bottle and Walking on the moon were familiar, the rest not so much. It was okay, but won't be coming back to it.

This one was pretty alright if you ask me.

Good overall, some catchy stuff in there (obviously, Message in a Bottle). Some of it got a bit repetitive / forgettable for me. And didn't enjoy 'On Any Other Day' at all.

Not my favorite from the Police, but a lot of good stuff that really highlights their reggae influences

Quelques pépites mais inégal dans l'écoute

Favorite Track: Walking On The Moon

Message in a Bottle and Contact are great, but there are other Police albums I'd reach for first

Was never a huge fan on the Police. Interesting to see this is from 1978. Thought it was from the 80’s

It's ok.

As described

Favorite track: The bed's too big without you other picks: message in a bottle, walking on the moon

I don’t understand the reggae vibe, and it turns me off. This album was a first and a last for me.

The hits of The Police are well known but man their duds are pretty easy to forget. The Police and Sting are more popular than the should be but it's not an awful listen. Probably makes sense to include on the list but not something I care to listen to that much. Not unskilled or unfocused. Just a bit uninteresting

Message in a Bottle and Walking on the Moon are catchy, the rest I can do without. Not terrible, fine instrumentation, but those two tracks aren't enough.

Good background music but wouldn't be something I'd listen to on the daily

I was hoping for more.

Ah, I have this on vinyl! Let me put it on tonight and let you know.

It’s quite good - I’m sorry to say that I find this mix between reggae and new wave more interesting than most original reggae I’ve heard in the past.

Some greatness starting to shine

Great album at the time, some of the songs do not stand the test of time... Still a good solid album

Klassikkomatskuu! Ihan hyvin putoo. 3/5

I know a few Police songs but not many.. never heard of them as “white reggae” but now I’ll never forget it!!! Appreciate the sophistication within the music, but they’ve never been my cup of tea. 3/5

Just ok for me.

I’ve always considered The Police a middle-of-the-road kind of band, this album epitomizes that. Good radio singles; ordinary album tracks.

Couple of massive hits on this album that are genuinely fantastic songs. Musicianship on display (especially Copeland) is brilliant - energetic, inventive, fun. I do feel like a lot of the album meanders though and that there's a few different little experiments going on with varied results. Some songs I could listen to regularly and others I'm not bothered about ever hearing again. Top musicianship, mixed bag of songs. 6/10

Overall a nice album but not something I would necessarily listen to over and over again. I never knew how much of the album was influenced by reggae music until I listened to the whole thing. I can see how it was influential. Favorite song: "The Bed's Too Big Without You".

bring on the night!!!

I guess I'm not a fan of The Police
