fav songs: message in a bottle sterile, lightweight, irritating 20/100

what is with the accent😭 favorite song: bring on the night least favorite: the bed’s too big without you

Sounds like early AI's first attempts at making music

Did not like. Message in a Bottle is fine. The rest is not for me.

we'll start off with I don't like The Police. Is that an "I don't like the songs I've heard by The Police?" like, are their hits just overplayed? Let's see... first, Reggatta De Blanc loosely translates to "White Reggae", so, hmmm. This is certainly white, but hardly Reggae... On Any Other Day includes the lyrics: "My teenage daughter ran away, My fine young son has turned out gay..." so there's that. I seriously tried, I can't even with this music... ACAB

it's an album called "white reggae" which, as the name suggests, consists of white guys appropriating reggae including a pretty racist accent. i honestly don't know what to even say here. crazy to me that this is the same guy who had a pretty great track on the 'arcane' OST. and yes i wrote that sentence because i know someone will be mildly upset that that's how i first learned who sting was. anyway, this was genuinely unlistenable. shoutout to the artemis II mission for "walking on the moon" though; at least that's topical. acab includes this band.

Absolutely boring, could not finish it. No wonder I've only heard Message in a Bottle until now, wow that was snooze enducing

Whatever I like in music, this isn't it

I’ve never really liked The Police much and I’m not a huge Sting fan either. I do like Any Other Day. This suburban guys days just goes to shit over a pretty happy upbeat melody. The sort of “island” type influence on this record is interesting and not something I expected. This Beds Too Big Without You sounds like a new guitarist who heard reggae for the first time. Definitely not a great track, but I guess in 1979 a British pop band doing this would’ve done something for some people. Yeah overall, I find Sting’s vocal melodies just awkward in general. Case in point, the last track on this album. I get it’s supposed to be frantic, but Jesus. I don’t like it.

it's giving rich white kids, who are bored of being white so they adapt a hippie asthetic

Obnoxious white reggae drivel from part-time punks

Love the classics from the police but idk if I’d call the album best 1000 of all time

нууу такое

🎶 Bring on something else, I couldn't stand another hour of Sting's voice 🎶

White reggae. Just... no.

Not the worst thing I've ever heard, but I was absolutely not interested in this album.

I’m sure I already had one Police album and this is a good illustration of everything wrong with this list. Meanwhile I have not seen an actual reggae album yet. Everyone already knows the Police, there is nothing to discover here. If you like knock off reggae played wrong and Sting’s limited squawk, this is for you. If you have taste, you’ll be listening to the real thing.

Meh. Sorry, but stings voice grates on me and I hate the reggae vibe

White reggae huh. Yeah not for me. Not a fan of the feigned accent Sting puts on, not a fan of the lukewarm droning rhythms, not a fan of this album. There are so many mediocre British artists on this list it’s wild. I’m inspired to make my own list that isn’t so biased.

should have called it Forgetta De Ble

I was excited to listen to this album because I’d never heard any album by The Police except for their greatest hits. Turns out “Message In a Bottle” is the only good song on Regatta De Blanc (I couldn’t even get into Walking On The Moon). Someone needs to tell Sting to shut the fuck up. I haven’t had an album disappointment me this bad since KISS released their 1998 dog-shit-disguised-as-a-record “Psycho Circus”. Like Cube says… “Fuck The Police”

Melko afrikkalais ja jamaikalaisrytmisiä biisejä. Enemmän tykkäsin rokkibiiseistä. Ei nämä Policen biisit kovin iske

Better than the last Police record that was on here but still irritating as fuck. 1.5

White reggae toss

Not the biggest police fan. Other than the hits the songs are not really there. Nice drums throughout, and some creative guitar parts.

On Any Other Day is a weird song. Some Synchronicity II vibes.

For the love of the wee man. This was shite.

Does what it says on the tin. Very badly.

The music has the voice of a strangled cat and the sound of neutered reggae.

1/5. White reggae is the name of the album. Reggae already is not for me and now we somehow make it worse? Like, sure, I am bobbing my head up and down but it's not good music. I know this was a big record, along with the Police in general, but it's not something I can take a whole album of. I like Rush, and they have songs that are definitely influenced by this genre, it's just not the whole album. I lost track of where I was here and can't remember any of them besides maybe two of them. Even then, Message In A Bottle is overrated, and yet still the best one on this album. Also, the title track has vocals but won best Rock Instrumental, which feels a little off. I was vibing to it but I would rather listen to anything else than put it on again. Best Song: Message In A Bottle, Bring On the Night

the police have some fantastic songs… unfortunately with the exception of message in a bottle, none of them are on this album

Nope nope nope. Even w/r/t the big hits (“Message in a Bottle,” “Walking on the Moon,”) I vastly prefer other folks’ covers over these originals. Nothing else on this one feels worth considering again.

Not a fan of this. Was very forgetable

At the time i bet this album was crazy. But as with a lot of albums from this era, it's another example of British artists using black music unheard of by the greater British population as a shortcut to sounding "experimental". The better songs are the one where he isn't trying to sound Jamaican but fuck those songs where he's trying to sound Jamaican are awful.

not for me, was expecting better since i like every breath you take and don't stand so close to me

Feels disjointed. Half Ska/reggae. Not a fan of The Police. Hot Take - would this album even be on this list if it wasn’t for Message in a Bottle?

Sting has to be the most undeservedly successful sex guy going. Imagine if white guys appropriated reggae this egregiously today. The upset would be rigorous and righteous.

Not great, not even good

Honestly hated it. Every element of every song felt disjointed. A band with only one good song and it’s not even on their best album 🤦‍♂️

Sting should be arrested.

I can repeat exactly what I wrote for the first Police album this made me listen to: Nope. This annoyed me either because of that strange sound or those cringy lyrics or that weird quality of sting‘s voice. Mostly all three.

Awful cod-reggae, the worst kind of preening, pretentious crap marketed as soulful and edgy but in reality thin, weak and irritating.

Truly awful. I do like some Police songs, but this album is incredibly weak and makes them sound mediocre. - Jamie

Not a fan of The Police

Bollocks

a difficult listen. apparently not a white reggae fan highlights: N/A

Sting sucks!!

This is what happens when white people trying to play reggae... Please make it stop! Message in a bottle is good.

I won't listen to another Police album.

Not my cup of tea at all

The album itself is great, but the remastered mix is horrible. The original album wasn't available to listen to on Tidal.

Know it by heart

I liked Message in a Bottle, but this album is soon starting to grate. The cod-reggae feels like it's taking the piss at times. Jesus Christ, On Any Other Day is as bad as anything I've ever heard. I was debating whether Message in a Bottle meant that this album deserved a two, but, fuck me, I hate this song. Does Everyone Stare is several times less awful than On Any Other Day, but it's still offensively shit. This was no 369 on Rolling Stones greatest 500 albums of all time list. How much cocaine were they taking at the time? I've taken 500 dumps that I'd rather listen to again than this heap of tod.

Police die Band die ich nie mochte, inklusive Sting. Oder wegen ihm?

2/10 🗑️ Walking on the Moon 🌖

this was infinitely better than the other police album and still incredibly annoying for most of its run time.

sorry i cannot stand the police I'm 5 songs in and not finishing this

This is the only song I’ve heard on this album. Such a classic. I may have heard it a touch too many times but it’s got such a catchy hook. Reggatta de Blanc itself sounds like a retarded man having sex for the first time. What are these vocals. Good ass instrumental though. Bring on the night just kind of a meh song. Don’t really like stings voice that much. Also not a really huge fan of the sound of the guitar generally. It’s well played i just think I don’t really like the effect. After this point I sorta got bored of the album. It’s not really bad music it’s just boring as fuck. The police always sort of were a band I never really understood why people liked so much. Like they have their real standout bangers like message in a bottle, Roxanne etc that were the big hits but this album is sort of a “eh” aside that. I listened to this again to try and see if I just wasn’t in the right mentality but I just couldn’t get into it and think I actually disliked it more on a second listen. It’s just boring. I don’t think the average person could name a single song on this album besides message in a bottle. No time at all sorta revives the tail end with a nice up tempo sorta classic rock track but the vocals have this weird effect on them that I fucking hate and it also has the classic trope of not knowing how to finish a song so just fading out. I looked back and the song is called no time this time so shows how memorable it is that I got the name wrong 3 seconds after I listened to it. ACAB Includes sting. Have a less gay haircut.

I have heard two songs off this album before I sat down and listened to it. Message in a Bottle and Walking on the Moon. Instrumentally I can't say anything bad about this album, Walking on the Moon is kind of boring if you take away the lyrics. But ironically enough that's the only instance where that rule would apply. Probably every song on this album would be better without vocals and lyrics. How did this make the Police a big band? Did they really just coast off the success of songs like Roxanne and shit? I'm giving this a 2 because each individual member of this band is a great musician but together Regatta de Blanc is fucking boring. On second thought this album should be a 1. It just fucking sucks, one and a half good singles from an album does not salvage it. IN FACT this album does a disservice to the actual musical skills as a band. Andy Summers is a great guitarist, each member of this band INDIVIDUALLY is talented. This album is like getting a bunch of classically trained painters to try and fingerpaint a recreation of the Sistine Chapel ceiling, the same is true for getting three quirked up white boys to sit around and play reggae. So how the fuck do you end up with a song like "The Bed's Too Big Without You"??? I wrote the majority of this review right after I finished a session at the gym where dogshit like "Deathwish" was my soundtrack to pumping out one of the saddest sets of overhead presses anyone has ever done in their life. Why on earth did the USMC decide to used Panama by Van Halen as part of psychological warfare when this album exists? 'White Reggae' does to the human brain what VX gas does to lungs. Go listen to Sons of Beaches by Australian Crawl instead.

Hyvä että pikkase yläkanttii viimeisimpiä albumeja, nimittäin sen verran paskaa

70’s

I appreciate the Police for their eclectic approach to music. But I didn't really enjoy them. Fine music but not for me.

I can't listen to Sting for 11 songs. I tried. I made it halfway through the 9th song before I gave up. "On Any Other Day" might possibly be one of the worst songs I've ever heard, so that's... something.

Nasal fake reggae. Who listens to this shit?

Just my luck, the one day I miss is Metallica and instead I get this dress. God I hate this band.

I'm pretty sure the only reason this album is on the list is to listen to message in a bottle. The other songs have few redeeming qualities. A lot of the album is white-washed reggae, which seems obvious now, based on the title. Best Songs: Message in a Bottle Worst Songs: Regatta De Blanc, Walking on the Moon, On Any Other Day,

Repetitive style, beat. Not very creative.

too 80s for me

Didn't like The Police 40 years ago ... and now I recall why. While Incan't speak for the technical point of view, from an interest perspective, this album is crap. Still don't like The Police.

Nix für mich

Not into the Police at all.

So crap

Stings fejkdialekt irriterar.

Definitely an interesting choice for this list. I wish I liked this album more, as 2-tone and the English Ska movement has some of my favorite sounds in music and I was excited to hear more from The Police. My excitement quickly faded as I heard the most repetitive, bland, derivative music I've ever heard. I could easily find every sound, tone, and melodic progression in other Ska/Reggae music from the 1st and 2nd wave movements that sound much better than they do here. Not a terrible album, but I think it's a bit of a waste when there is much better 2 tone out there like Madness or The Specials. Definitely not something I'd recommend to anyone trying to get into 2-Tone/Ska/Reggae. Also "White Reggae"?! Come the fuck on lmao, just focus on getting the reggae part down first before trying to make it about your Skin color man.

this album listening experience sucked - felt like torture lowkey

Never cared for The Police. Still don't. Pass.

Other than the popular hits (walking on the moon and message in a bottle), I can't say that I enjoyed this album. It felt much of the same the whole way through and I found Sting's voice annoying after a while and someone whining in the background. I really tried to enjoy it but didn't at all. The further down the track list I went the worse it sounded.

I find Sting's fake Jamaican accent very uncomfortable which distracts me from the music I think!

Listened to the first 2 songs. I hate The Police.

I ALREADY RATED THIS YOU IDIOTS

Not interesting

Going in, my expectation was of rather uninteresting, radio-friendly pop rock, with a chance of quality in the deeper cuts. Turns out, this was a lot more reggae than I'd thought - but combined with uninteresting pop-rock. I guess that's absolutely fine for people who're into both. But to me that sounds like an absolutely horrible taste in music. Unfortunately, I find reggae absolutely aggravating. Mixing it with bad rock music makes the reggae less insufferable, but it's still far, far removed from any positive qualities. 1.5 stars. Rounded down because I wasn't able to finish the majority of tracks.

the cunting prototype for chris martin. stings got to be a nonce right? fucking acts like one.

A rampant appropriation of reggae. A rock-based, generic, new wave album. A minor album from a one hit wonder.
