Reviews (page 10 of 13)

Solid 70s album. Cohesive sound. Interesting enough to make me stay focus on the album. Beautiful Sax on Crime Of The Century.

Just ok

On Crime of the Century, Supertramp felt like they were borrowing from ELO, Pink Floyd, and Queen. Unfortunately, these bands are just better. While the album is decent, it pales in comparison to the other bands mentioned. Best Songs: Hide in Your Shell, Crime of the Century Worst Songs: Asylum

It’s fine, just not fully my thing.

For 1970s prog rock this is a pretty accessible listen. However, it's just not a genre (or at least an era of a genre) that I 'get' or enjoy. I did enjoy the poppy and orchestral moments, though Rating: 3/5 Playlist track: School Date listened: 29/10/23

Liked the first few songs but didn’t finish the album

Some nice rock. Wasn't taken away

Great to hear Bloody Well Right in context. Reminds me of a modern take on Pink Floyd, big spacious album

First minor surprise: I always thought Supertramp were American... Second minor surprise: I thought this would include more quirky pop goodness (a bit like Dreamer, I guess), but a lot of it's fairly standard prog / yacht rock. There are a few growers on here so it's probably just about worth 3 stars, but I expect there'll be another Supertramp album on this list, and I expect I'll enjoy that one more.

Interesting

Pretty good

I'd like this genre mash up of jazz, rock n roll, and fun. Nothing wild n crazy in terms of originality. But good.

I didn't know what to expect, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Surprised to hear they were British - assumed US. Rating - feels like rating a piece of furniture or something. They are just there, always have been.

I had listened to Breakfast in America, but this is the first time I listened to Crime of the Century in its entirety. Sounds great! It's got that sweet prog rock production!

I had never heard a Supertramp album before. I had heard the Bloody Well Right song on the radio but didn't know it was them. This album is enjoyable enough but it's not something I would buy.

Although very different bands, Supertramp has the clean, tight focus I like about fellow 70s prog rock band Yes. I'm familiar with 2 of their other albums and like maybe half the tracks on each of them.

Opens on a high note with school and goes right into the banger bloody well right. Continues to jam on throughout. Dreamer is a jam and ends with the awesome crime of the century

Will go back and listen again. More of a Breakfast in America kind of guy but I should give it a shot still.

Most of it is not for me. Some good hits, my favorites being "School" and "Crime of the Century" with "Hide in Your Shell" lagging behind. I really tried to like it, heard it more than 4 times through but couldn't get what the hype was all about. Still, it's nice to get away from my usual tastes in music and discover something different.

- "Dreamer" is the only song I knew prior to this listen and I like it. - "School" is pretty good. - Overall it's a good album, no amazing songs jumped out at me other than "School" and "Dreamer."

Started off really good, inspired mix of rock and jazz elements, but throughout the album petered off into more basic soft rock elements.

Uneven but some cool songs. 3/5

Not as good as Breakfast In America, but pretty good. "Asylum" reminds me of "The Wall"

Not a dig but just sounds like a queen riff

I dig Supertramp.

This was very easy to listen to. I enjoyed it but nothing stood out as life changing.

Never heard this. Love the harmonica. Amazing composition. Good album.

I would call the first half of it definitely better than the second, but still super solid. Had fun with the album, would go back and listen to the first 4 tracks again and probably Rudy and the last half of the final track. Lots of fun vocal layering, big fan of the horns, and those keys are KILLER. Really fun. Favorite tracks: School, Bloody Well Right, Hide in Your Shell, Rudy

Not to the expected heights as Breakfast in America, still ok though.

Possibly the front runner for space rock. More because of the ethereal vocals, great guitar work and piano tracks.

Ay, climb aboard ye merry fops and let’s go prancing about!

Solid. Most tracks have a nice groove, but fuck it up with some complex shit.

It felt nice to go back and listen to Supertramp. Granted, it's a bit dated, a bit like a pop version of Pink Floyd, and a bit self-serious. But the piano on this album is fantastic, and I still like it, if only for nostalgia.

Love Bloody Right.

Something about the vocal style and instrumentation annoys me a little - it feels a bit overdone and cheesy. Some of the songs are really beautifully arranged, though. I appreciate the variety of instruments present, and there's a nice balance between weird and traditional vibes.

*Bloody Well Right* and *School* were hits for a reason. The rest probably weren't hits also for a reason. 16 September 2023

A couple of good songs, the rest is meh

‘Dreamer’, ‘Rudy’, ‘If Everyone Was Listening’ and ‘Crime Of The Century’. A solid Side B lifts this album from ‘not that memorable’ to ‘mmm….good’.

First listen Saved 4/8 Top track: School

Supertrammp - ‘Crime of the Century’ - rich confection / Asylum has an Elton feel

It was alright, nice piano bits. All the songs were too long and not very catchy. It was fine.

This was fun, but nothing particularly memorable overall. I enjoyed the opening song, School, and then everything else went downhill for me after that.

I just don’t really care for this. I’m pretty different to everything on this record aside from dreamer really dislike that one. Overall mediocre record don’t care for it, strong 4-5

Some fun old school piano rock. A little campy, but not super memorable.

Reminded me of a lot of great music, which means this too is amazing. Rudy is my favorite.

Need to be high or tripping to really enjoy this. But, it was fine.

Luistert prima weg in de ochtend op kantoor, maar ik vind het toch ook wel erg zeurderig.

Two big hits then songs with a lot in common with Pink Floyd.

Слушать было скучно. Музыка сильно постарела. Некоторые мотивы прикольные, но не более того. Не понимаю, почему этот альбом в списке 1001 лучших.

Heavy pink Floyd vibes, some of the final songs really felt like they dragged out, would listen to more of their stuff though

Kinda forgettable: I mean it wasn't all that bad. A few songs in here just immediately felt recognisable and I have to admit I was vibing with them. Others felt a little boring and samey but for a bad I haven't listened to that much at all of it was great. Will revisit a few songs many many many times to come.

Very meh

Couple okay songs. Some of the riffs were a little much for me

Not at all what I knew supertramp for and pretty good.

Pretty average

A weak addition since they have so many other better albums. Bloody well right will be stuck in my head a few days.

Expected to hate it didn’t it was ok

1970s rock vibe - enjoyable but not my favourite!

I barely remember this album from 2 days ago, so probably wasn’t life changing but twas good

Good album

No hay chance de que Charly no haya escuchado este disco mil veces. Era un 2 para mí, pero le pongo 3 porque a la segunda escuchada me guardé Hide In Your Shell y Asylum.

Apart from a few tracks, I didn't really love this one. A bit too much of its time.

Starry eyed with intent and beautifully produced. There’s a certain feeling this record evokes. Whatever that is I loved it. It’s hard to describe but feels real good.

Interesting album, I don't know if any other band has a sound similar to Supertramp. Bloody well right and Dreamer were two big hits off this album. Overall I thought it was pretty good, a mix of prog, jazz, and a heavy dose of the 70s

Like the music, its hit or miss when he starts singing

Loved the intro and them few progressive songs! But i don’t really catched me that hard

Not my kind of music, can admit it's very technically competent.

Dit was behoorlijk tof!

Alleraardigst.

day 25. this was just ok for me, interesting enough that I might come back to it (or at least revisit Supertramp another time), but not standing out enough to me that it'll be top of mind. I went back and tried to listen to some of the tracks again to remember what my favorites were, and I'm still struggling to remember what they sounded like, oops. faves - School, Crime of the Century, Asylum 3/5

Likes about 1/2 of it

I liked it quite a bit. The great side of Prog and Art Rock. Good listen.

Pleasant but pretty dull, Dreamer is the only track that sticks in my head, the rest is just background

BIG BAG BOOM, NICE TO LISTEN. SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE TE COVER. BIG SURPRISE. THE LAST PART OF THE FISRT TRACK MAKE ME TEAR A LITTLE. *3.8 / 5

Helt aight

It's an okay album but a lot of the ideas they hit were done better by Yes and Billy Joel in my opinion. I did really enjoy Asylum and Hide In Your Shell, though.

Enjoyed it, over the top but not ridiculous

Liked but didn't fall in love, maybe needed to sit with it longer

They got the pizzazzz. A lust for life. Solid work.

Alright

Proggy and wholesome I'd say. Slightly put off as its Jeremy Clarksons fave album but it throws a lot of tunes on this album. Solid 3

I think I would like this more on a relisten.

Got my foot tapping and head nodding from the off, but lyrically it didn't do anything particularly for me, as while it was relatable it felt to obvious and on the nose. The softer moments were forgettable and it was only really when everything kicked in that i was really enjoying.

It was pretty good but I was expecting better

7/10 or 7.5/10, very good but probably not top 3 in the Supertramp collection. Most songs on this album are very good in themselves, and they work together nicely to create a pretty good sound for the album. Even the weaker songs are not bad, and still remain consistent with the album's sound

Really interesting start to an album. I kind of hate the girl's scream at 1:44 in the first track right before the break. It really pulls me out of the listening experience but at the same time I kind of love it because I think the inverse could be true too. For me, I don't really often have kids hanging outside of my windows at 9:50am on a Monday so the yell was surprising. But for someone else this could be an interesting element that really pulled them into the music. Very interesting dichotomy. The song itself is really cool, and the production is amazingly crisp for 1974. I had to check that I was listening to the actual original recording and not a modern day remaster. I have been listening to a remaster. Whoops. I felt this was pretty alright. The rest of the album kind of goes by pretty quickly and without too much that I enjoyed or disliked. I'm going to give this a 3 but it could easily lean more towards a 2.

classic rock. i cant distinguish it from its counter parts of the era. it had groove and splash. it was dynamic at times. i can dig it. a bit.

It was alright. Feels like an album that might grow on me. On the other hand I don’t feel I need this in my life. I’ll take along some songs I liked for further listening, school, ruby and the title track.

Heard before. Has some really good songs, especially If Everyone Was Listening. Keep thinking of someone who showed us Bloody Well Right as part of his fave songs of the year. Mom likes this band. + Bloody Well Right + Asylum + Dreamer + Rudy + If Everyone Was Listening

Overall I didnt love this album on first listen. I didn’t hate it either, it just wasn’t really the vibe I wanted tonight. I had been meaning to check them out so I’m glad I did, and I might revisit this album. I didn’t expect as much piano, although the little beeps and boops were expected. Alot of the songs felt too long, and didnt really captivate me, and it sounded like a muppets musical at times. I got up to Asylum and stopped there. I didn’t hate this experience, but didn’t love it

Good, but nothing spectacular.

The kind of prog that I don’t really like. It’s okay, but I don’t see why this would be included over some more unique prog (prog metal maybe?).

Smooth yet expansive sound with lots of great instrumentation. All songs are listenable yet have some of depth. Still, I don't think I would put this on much again. It's distinctive and well-made, yet not totally for me. Best song: Bloody Well Right

I'm willing to give this another listen, but I wasn't terribly impressed with this one. There were sections where it was very quiet and then very loud. Also it felt like something was missing during certain parts. Overall, eh it's okay.

Piano prog rock! This wasn't too bad, actually. Too poppy for my sensibilities, but some very interesting sounds

This is a lot weirder than I had expected.

Non male...

Decent 70s rock

Vähän Yesmäistä progia, mutta vähemmän teknistä ja vähemmän progia. Aivan kelpoa mutta mikään kappale ei oikein iskenyt

Trudde eg skulle lika da bedre

I knew their hits but had never listened to a whole album. I was prepared to rate this a two because of the two songs I recognized and liked. I had dinner with a friend, who was extolling supertramp’s virtues and we listened to the album together. She is a little older than me and remembers loving them (and smoking lots of weed) so, while listening with her I leaned in and could see this being something I might have rated a 4 if given time. However, as we all discuss with this project, time is something we don’t have so I will split it down the middle and call it a 3.

I never heard any Supertramp beyond the hits. This was cool. I dug the interplay between the two singers. Can't say much of it stuck with me, but it intrigued me enough that i'll give this a second listen at some point. Still not a fan of Dreamer, though. Wait... is Breakfast in America not on this list? How does that make sense?

A couple great bangers but otherwise I was a bit bored

A good album for sure, if not a great one. But it is certainly strange they picked this, rather than certified pop bangarang Breakfast in America. Maybe they find the waitress as creepy as I do.

A good album, maybe a touch forgettable in some places and a little bit lacking in others. Not bad by any means.

I do like the keyboard parts in this. Pretty cool album overall even though I am not a huge prog rock fan.

Takes me back... to a time... before I was born

Not as self indulgent as I was expecting and a few decent tunes. 3

Coming up as I did in the 70s and 80s, I used to get REALLY into a few specific bands, to the point where I bought most of the band's albums, even the less popular ones, and knew every track, even the obscure ones. The Beatles were the first, and then as I got older it was The Doors, Pink Floyd, Procol Harum, and Jethro Tull. During my freshman year at college, I started appreciating Supertramp and for a while I thought they may be my next big obsession. They seemed interesting and somewhat popular but not through-the-roof popular. Then one day I was talking to my girlfriend's roommate, whose name was Marilyn, and I mentioned something about getting into Supertramp. Turns out she was a huge Supertramp fan. Well, I didn't really like Marilyn very much and, if I'm being honest, I kind of looked down on her taste a bit, and I soon moved on from Supertramp without diving any deeper. Although my reason wasn't very good, in hindsight I think it was the right decision for me. I like Supertramp, and I appreciate the musicianship and all, but I don't think they fit my style as much as some of those other bands. All that to say, 3 stars.

6th February 2023 Listened in the morning while working from home. Out for Thai at giggling squid for Jess bday and test drive BMW X1. I like the spacey themes, but prefer the more down to earth songs. 3.5 if I could.

Album was good - i liked a few tracks on it. Overall, it's not really my thing though but very well produced.

what i know of supertramp is their catchy hits! i knew a few songs here beforehand (i wasn't even aware i knew "bloody well right"!), but crime of the century is missing that catchy earworm aspect that makes supertramp so fun to listen to. so while it's far from bad, crime of the century shows supertramp was definitely working up to their usual sound. they were more progressive here than their big later hits, so much so that i felt that this was an off brand pink floyd. and the horns popping up or the harmonica opening a song? not bad at all.

This was a funny one. This is not the Supertramp sound I am used to, but I still found myself knowing a few of these songs, just without knowing that it was Supertramp. This was a decent album, but not a favorite. There were times when this felt a little Led Zeppelin, a little Pink Floyd, and even a little Electric Light Orchestra. But the album didn’t outdo or compare to any of the aforementioned bands. And that’s really probably why this album didn’t full take off for me: I kept comparing it to other bands and never found myself particularly impressed.

Theatrical. While the album kept a linear tone the entire album, I love how they decided to take every song in this album and put a theatrical mood to them, like a concept album.

Usually prog and pop don’t mix, but Supertramp have found a way to combine them to generally favorable results. Some of the songs on the B-side are a bit too long, though.

Está ok, pero no muchas canciones destacan. De hecho, la mayoría suenan un poco a relleno.

Progre pero con feeling,. Favoritos: School, Bloody Well Right, Dreamer

"Dreamer" is the only song I recognized but I have to say this album was just alright; not a huge fan of some of the bad singing. 7/10.

Steely Dan >

Eh, it was ok. Not great.

Some of these songs had a spunk to them a little bit of spook to them but it honestly was just a filler for me. I know this album is pretty well known but it wasn’t spectacular for me: It felt and sounded like any normal album. There’s nothing wrong with it, I just wouldn’t go out of my way to listen again.

I'm a kid of the 70s so I enjoyed seeing this album cover today - but I can't always connect with Supertramp. I don't dislike them at all, and in fact the recipe seems to all be there for me: multiple instruments, multiple vocalists, excellent sounding records, dynamics, non cookie-cutter songwriting. And their best is truly great (looking forward to the inevitable "Breakfast In America" which is an alltime great record) even on this album: "School" is a really different kind of opener - creepy and dark; think Pink Floyd before The Wall. "Dreamer" is just a lovely song - I love the vocal interplay, the unique piano arrangement. And I almost forgot to mention the very British cut "Bloody Well Right" - love the ridiculously long and fantastic intro with solos on Rhodes keyboard and guitar before any vocals. No songs are bad here. But I just can't fully connect to the album as a whole. I think I'm being more harsh on this than most because I want to love it but "only" like it :P For the most part I find it harder to connect on most of their longer/more progressive songs (e.g. "Hide In Your Shell" "Crime of the Century" "Asylum" "Rudy") - maybe in the end for me they were a really good melodic rock band that excelled at interesting/catchy singles and were for the most part best staying in that lane. It's a 3.5 for me that despite skilled musicianship and great singles I'm rounding down knowing that I really only end up connecting with half the album. 7/10 3 stars.

I liked and I enjoyed. In my head, Supertramp are a bit of a jokey band and I have absolutely no grounds for that except possibly their name. It’s a little too close to Super Trooper.

eh i guess so

I thought it was pretty cool for them to name their band after your mom.

School heel mooi nummer.

I only knew a couple of songs on this album and the stuff I didn't know was okay, I guess.

I had never heard this band before. Had fun listening to this one. Great sounding 70’s record. I especially like the drum sound. I love this kind of 70’s power pop/ rock it it reminded me of Wings, Queen, Harry Nilsson, Elton John. The songs and instrumental are great but I don’t love the sound of the lead vocal like I do with those other bands. 3.5

Really weird and creative album. Not something I’d listen to but interesting. Some of the more dramatic moments almost remind me of queen. Asylum is like queen meets Pink Floyd.

pwetty kwel

Better than mediocre but not 4 stars

Didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Had peaks and troughs though. Peaks were at beginning and end for me

Catchy, knew some of the songs, others were similar so it was enjoyable

This is an interesting situation for me, as my streaming service of choice does not have this album in full, so I had to go out of my way to watch a YouTube video with the full thing. Sadly, this is a little disappointing. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's good, but I had pretty high expectations, as I quite enjoy what I've heard from Supertramp (and that's more than just The Logical Song, I swear), but this was just an alright album. Perhaps it was my inability to listen at a higher streaming quality, but it felt often like something that was almost there, but often went in the wrong direction for my tastes. Again, still above average, but I was hoping to walk away with an eye opening prog experience, especially after the suprise that was Selling England By the Pound, but it just felt like decent music, and nothing more.

Nice album to listen to... Great pop and songs mix well together. I don't take away anything special except for son synth use that wew nice... Would gladly listen to it again, but fogetable 3.5/5

I enjoyed this quite thoroughly, however I do have to compare this directly to Breakfast In America, and this isn't that. Not a jab, most albums can't be that, but this still does stand as a solid effort from the band. I'll have to listen to it again in the future, it seems like a record that would benefit from repeat listens. 3.5/5

Dig that crazy organ.

Quality popular music

Best Song: Bloody Well Right. Iconic vocal track that still has the weird, jazzy qualities of the rest of the album. Worst Song: Asylum. Although the theatricality is part of Supertramp's appeal, songs like this swing too hard into actually sounding like theater, which feels one step too far. Overall: Supertramp has a very idiosyncratic sound, and that can become tiresome after an entire album. I like the diverse use of instrumentals, and the nearly-whiny vocals, but sometimes the tracks here come off as grandiose without being all that grand.

Enjoyed the arrangements on this one, lots of movement and instruments. Impressive but forgettable

The hits were awesome, the rest of the songs were not that memorable to me

This was fine, got a tad bored halfway

I enjoyed this one, but not enough to want to listen to it again. I added Bloody Well Right and Dreamer to my playlist, because they’re fantastic and I remember my parents playing them a lot growing up. But otherwise the album isn’t anything special.

Didn't blow me away, but it was pretty good

The songs are good, but the sound is a bit tinny. Maybe it's my speakers. Maybe I don't know what music should sound like.

3 An enjoyable rock opera-sounding album that wasn’t actually a rock opera (though I think that might just be called “prog rock”). School was a really fun opener that set the stage for the sound of the rest of the album well. From there, I enjoyed the twists and turns taken, with there being a few really cool moments along the way (I loved when Asylum got all explosive near the end). Not a ton of specific standout moments as a whole though, and I kind of wish all the songs were connected through a more clear sense of narrative or theme like a rock opera. As is, it feels a bit disjointed and lacking in a sense of specific identity. Still, a fun listen, and I look forward to listening to Breakfast in America from here (assuming that made the list if this did?)

Enjoyable. Dreamer is a banger!

Solidly enjoyable.

Kinda fun, but nothing special.

Not gonna rank individual songs anymore starting here because that is draining. While I think this album is great I don't think I will find myself going back to it. Still worth a listen while chilling.

Seen as their transition from prog / synth rock to their more familiar sound with the addition of the Hammond piano Crime of the Century lays down the tracks for the amazing Breakfast in America album that will launch them beyond the stratosphere. Good album, not my favorite, by it has that distinctive Supertramp sound that is still such a guilty pleasure. 3.5/5.

I love Dreamer especially but I enjoyed the whole album. Apart from that one track it doesn’t deserve 4* so high 3*

This feels like peak 70s rock. It started really well, but the last half of the album is weird opera style. Everyone wants to be Pink Floyd, but it doesn't work for them.

pretty good! wasn’t really my style, but it wasn’t bad.

Pretty good, but parts were very busy and muddled

2.5 stars. Piano heavy, decent.

Fun listen, nothing spectacular in my honest opinion

Yeah, not bad. I wish I had a Dutch millionaire supporting me for a few years. Stand out tracks: School, Bloody Well Right.

Cool sound, nothing really too exciting for me, though.

Good, but nothing really stands out.

It wasn’t bad. It wasn’t great. Right in the middle, or a little above average. It starts out with a great vibe, just as the album progressed I zoned out a bit.

A lot going on here. Like the last track a lot

Fine album with some classic songs. Not really my thing though.

I’ve never listened to an album this old! This felt experimental, old school, rock and soul all at once. The genre often changed during the course of a single song. The band (?) definitely played around with sounds and effects. Loved the sax. Some songs left me a little confused and unsure about their meaning. But three I definitely liked: Hide In Your Shell, Rudy (!!), Crime Of The Century. The first two with really good lyrics. The second one especially I related to a lot sadly but it’s a perfect song to dedicate to someone in a way — deep but not in an obvious way, still original. The third one with few lyrics but the sound, the beat is quite good and interesting and powerful.

This sounds like Elton John meets Queen, with harmonies and spatial audio play...

every time the same: great musicians, good sounds, but boring in the end

Pretty good. Not great, not terrible. Few good songs on there but no standouts

Interesting band - feels like they'd have been insufferable art wankers at the time, but there's a few fun songs on here

My knowledge of Supertramp began and ended with Breakfast in America, which my sister owned on LP when it came out, and I listened to a lot. It was interesting to listen to this and discern the more-art-than-pop roots.

I've heard some of Supertramp's music before but this was my first time listening to Crime Of The Century. From this album, I've heard "Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer". I was surprised that the other tracks sounded somewhat different than what I am used to from Supertramp. I know that lots of folks like Supertramp, but I'm not sure I found the draw towards their music. The album was okay, but I don't need more of what was offered. Once was enough for now. 3 stars = okay.

Classic prog/ pop rock cross over. Super dry production. 4/5 for the genre 3/5 for personal taste. Essentially watered down prog.

I had never heard this and actually enjoyed it quite a bit more than I thought I would. I'm not sure I'm ever going to seek it out, but it was far more enjoyable than some of the other albums I've discovered this week.

A little on the poppier side than I generally like my prog but still really fantastic stuff. Great melodies and production.

as an infant I was a huge fan of supertramp or so I'm told. I like this album altough I think it should've brougth more familiar sounds, maybe it was just breakfast in america...

Fun in places, but not something I'd be sad to never hear again.

Piano heavy 70s spacey rock. Pretty good+ and I like “Bloody Well Right”, but still only average.

Grandioso demais

'Dreamer' is een plezierig nummer dat wat blijft hangen. De rest is wat in en uit. Oké album

One of my father's favourite bands when i was growing up. Though he didn't ever really play much music in the house, if he did, Supertramp would be played at some point.

Good album, one of my mom’s favourites.

I'm a fan of this genre which is fortunate because it does have it's moments. This album has some highs but also some bland wallpaper moments (similar to 10cc). Accomplished musicianship, lots of sounds, experimental bits and random lyrics which occasionally click but often don't. Still, the good bits outweigh the bland so I like this.

Not much of a fan. Breakfast in America provided some nice nostalgic pop horror though.

Really beautiful high energy piano in School, reminds me of America a bit, worth re-listening

Privet pituhi

While not a great record per se - and I’m not of the rock opera leanings - somehow Supertramp know how to spin a tune and make it memorable.

Альбом запомнился плохо, хотя композиции хорошие. Пару вещей добавил в понравившиеся.

Overall enjoyable album. Only a couple songs stood out but the rest all kind of blended together. Reminded me too much of Queen and other artists/songs that did it better and felt more raw imo.

The first couple of tracks are really dated and could be mistaken for a 70s film boogie style soundtrack. From asylum onwards, there are some great songs that I'd listen to again.

Not terrible but didn't love it.

Better than I thought it was going to be.

It was alright, it was bloody well alright! 2.5

Very average 70s prog rock with 2 standout tracks ("School" and "Asylum"). The finale of the last track ("Crime of the Century") was also nice. I'm kind of done with prog rock at the moment. Would have loved this two years ago.

Pretty damn good

Hi- Bloody Well Right, Dreamer The crime of the century is that this isn't even Supertramp's best album (That award goes to Famous Last Words, sorry not sorry), but don't get me wrong, it's still great. Bloody Well Right and Dreamer are the rightful radio hits, and the rest is sort of a mixed bag of efforts, that's neither the best nor the worst Supertramp has to offer. Likeable, but not my first choice.

This is another one of those late night backyard bbq party vibe albums. It's nice to listen to the whole album in context, Bloody Well Right is still the standout track though.

School y Dreamer son suficientes para hacer de este un disco una gran obra. El resto no desmerece, me alegro de haber vuelto a escuchar a Supertramp.

Underrated band.

It was ok.

I can understand that these are talented musicians but man...i just can't get through it. Made it about 60% through

Grew on me. Has some nice tunes without being amazing from the first couple of listens, but should come back to 6/10

I enjoyed this one, but I found my interest waned as it went on. Best tracks: School, Bloody Well Right, If Everyone Was Listening

Not my favorite supertramp album, it was just ok

Disappointing (apart from Bloody Well and Dreamer). I know the hit singles, so was expecting a kind of 10cc/Steely Dan hybrid, but this was more proggy. Not bad, but I'll probably prefer Breakfast in America with all the pop hits.

I liked the string arrangements.

More variety than I thought there would be.

Pretty cool album with a few very good songs. Only a few songs on here were a little lackluster but most were quite awesome. I love the mix of influences and the instrumental variation. Super creative composition on here! 6/10

Bit more my speed. Decent album, nothing really stands out though, kinda jammy. My favorites were Dreamer and Asylum, and tge sax man going HAM on Crime of the Century. Probably won’t be in my regular rotation though.

Ihan jepa, vähän niinku superhelppoa progea. Voisin kuunnella uudestaan.

Ihan ok proge-rockia mut ei toisaalta mikään biisi saa salamia kulkemaan suonissa. 3/5

They're a really talented group of musician's - and I actually enjoy their music to an extent. Still, they seem like the poor-man's Queen. It's decent "orchestral rock" (if that's a thing), but in the context of all the other bands at the time, I'm not sure what makes them special.

The singles still sound pretty good, but I did not really vibe with the album overall.

Some classic tunes.

If you're right you'll agree. This was a disappointing listen. I'm right, I'm bloody well right. Dreamer was nice but I was hoping this was going to sound more like Breakfast in America. BTW, have you checked out that album cover? That lady looks like Swarzenegger in drag right before her head explodes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast_in_America#/media/File:Supertramp_-_Breakfast_in_America.jpg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AdheJWE930

Neither Rick Davies nor Roger Hodgson were tramps, let alone some kind of super-tramps escaped from a dying world or bitten by radioactive spiders, only to wander the English countryside aimlessly homeless. Despite this distinct lack of actual trampiness, these young lads from comfortable families named their fledgling band after the autobiography of Welsh writer W.H. Davies (no relation?). Of course, to a modern audience the tramp reference is even odder, as for some reason a term around for centuries to refer to homeless vagrants is now, at least in the states, more often used to refer to a woman who has "many casual sexual encounters." A word that saw its peak usage in the late 1800s is now coming back again with a different meaning in the 21st century. And Supertramp a blip in between that made no discernible impact on language usage. Regardless of linguistic history, if you put Elton John, Pink Floyd, and Queen in a blender and spit out something that has elements of all three but none of the star power or hit-making ability of any of them, you'd get Supertramp. "Crime of the Century" was fine, enjoyable even, but it seemed to pale in comparison to its contemporaries. A little too much jazziness sometimes. Apparently their earlier stuff had more of a prog-rock feel, with a shift to a poppier sound with this album. I'd be interested to hear the earlier stuff.

I’m struggling to put my thoughts into words. It’s a 3. Some parts are worth coming back to…you’re bloody well right! Other parts feel like they were trying too hard be be theatric.

Premier album de Supertramp écouté en entier. Plusieurs pièces de cet album m'étaient familières. Plutôt prog avec un côté pop. Pièce préférée: Bloody Well Right Chance que je réécoute: 3/5

Mediocre

Hmmm. It's intriguing. It has all the bombast and signposts of a metal album, but is instead arch and witty with lots of synth (or Hammond organ) on it. It has a couple of great songs in Dreamer and Bloody Well Right. I much prefer them later on, when they embrace the camper side of what they do, but nonetheless, this is a tight, but not spectacular album.

Always good to have piano in there

Prog goes pop. Beach Boys style vocals with new wave synths. Not as bad as it sounds honest! Best Tracks: School; Bloody Well Right; Dreamer

Sounds like a bunch of clever clogs trying (and nearly managing) to sound like Pink Floyd. Bloody well right and dreamer are the catchiest tunes, but it probably works best as a whole album.

Good musicians. Good album. But as far as Supertramp albums, Breakfast in America is better IMO.

super cool !! a little slow for my taste tho :)

Not as good as Breakfast in America... but not bad.

I think the only Supertramp song I've ever heard is Give a Little Bit. And I like that song, just never listened to them beyond that. This album was playful and engaging - I like the prog-pop-rock thing it's got going. I'm too high to come up with anything better than that. But I dig it, would listen again.

a decent album with some fun songs, but in the end, it just becomes background noise without any real highs or lows.

Twee goede nummers. De rest raakt niet echt.

Good album

It was fine

some bits super, some bits trampy

Been an avid classic rock radio listener my whole life, so I'm very familiar with all of Supertramp's big hits. They're alright. I've never cared enough to seek out more of their music. Would rather listen to Rush. Neutral on this.

Bloody Well Right and Dreamer👌

I'm a big fan of the Supertramp hits, but haven't heard this album before. Was relatively disappointed. I think it might grow on me after a few more listens, but my first impression is about 3.5 stars. A couple of great songs (Bloody Well Right, Dreamer) but the others didn't really blow me away.

First listen. Very easy to listen to. I know a few of the songs very well. The others are mostly great. 3/5

I appreciated it without particularly enjoying it

Nice keyboards. Last couple songs are very good. A little poppy, but some nice prog elements.

I mean it's Supertramp, you've got to love Supertramp. I prefer Breakfast in America but this is still good. I am being harsh with a 3* review, but for me it isn't quite a 4.

More ballady and polished than I expected. Didn't really speak to me.

Not bad. Easy listening funk

Been a while since I've listened to Supertramp, and it's really nice to hear them again. I was familiar with a couple tracks on this album -- "Bloody Well Right" has such great keys (and it all comes together great) and "Dreamer" is fun -- and it's nice to hear the whole thing. Somtimes feels like Moody Blues and other bands to me that get a little too into the synth/organ extended groovy 70s play, and it has a lot of moments of feeling every bit the 70s prog rock/pop effort it is, can be dreamy/drippy at times, but it's overall really well done and this band has a lot of talent.

Leuk album, goede lengte Dreamer en crime of the century zijn mijn favoriete

It played in the background of me working, thanks

Quizás el hecho de haber salido en viernes no le ayuda.

It's fine. I think that if I listened to it more, it might go up to four stars maybe. But eh. It was fine.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would! Interesting music, good lyrics and a nice overall vibe

It is an alright album just not memorable.

Supertramp! Hard to describe. Good rock.

Too much piano

This was cool. Nice songs, interesting structures, well produced, great musicians. Accessible prog. They certainly have their own sound. Only really knew the hits before, but would happily listen to more of this band. (3.4)

dreamer and school are definitely outstanding songs and the rest isn't bad , but i can't say it left a memorable impression

Okay, not amazing

This is a good album. It was a very lonely album though. It felt as though it was written in space or by someone that had just returned from space. Hug your friends. Top tracks School Dreamer If everyone was listening

good album - prefer Breakfast in America

5/10 I actually quite liked some songs, and it is a style I would usually listen too. Can revisit for sure. Added some songs to oldJam.

Interesting. One hell of a closer.

I really like the use of the saxamaphone on this album, at least I think it was a saxamaphone. Great electronic sounding tunes Top tracks: bloody well right, hide in your shell and dreamer

aight. heard most of the singles before but kinda forgettable overall

Really solid- definitely a fan of this genre in general so I will be re-listening to a few tracks more often. That being said towards the middle the songs felt a bit bloated/lengthy. Overall really great stuff!

Enjoyed, and with some songs I didn't realise I knew already. Good album

Quintessential lame music but it's not bad

Pleasantly surprised by this one.

I’ve never been left so confused by an album. So many different sounds and styles. The album starts well enough and finishing strongly too. Somewhere in the middle it gets incredibly irritating and I feel I’m at a Broadway show that I’ve been dragged along to again my will. But the album is just interesting enough to make me want to go back and give it another listen.

It’s alright. I couldn’t get into it as much as I’d like.

ja tinha ouvido esse, lembro que foi ok

Relaxing background music

Sounds more recent that it actually is. Chill prog rock I can get behind.

I liked this a good bit. Didn't pay attention nearly enough to latch onto specific songs other than the two I saved, but did really enjoy those two - the sax on "hide in your shell" is fucking awesome. Could definitely come back to this one and like it even more Saved: Hide In Your Shell, Crime Of The Century

Enjoyed this, musicianship is really good they're obviously a talented bunch, it did lose me a little in parts so it's just shy of a 4* for me but a strong 3* for sure

Glad to have discovered these guys. Will listen to more. Knew the name and now realise I know some of their hits. No recognisable hits on this album but enjoyable nonetheless

Enjoyed the majority of this although it crossed over to prog rock a bit too much. I’d never really thought of Supertramp as a prog rock band, but I suppose they are in a way. Some really good tunes on here and it’s a close call between 3 and 4 stars.

Enjoyed the first half of this but felt the second went a bit weird and was almost waiting for it to finish by the end.

Only managed to listen passively. Liked what I heard, but it didn’t jump out. Will go back and hopefully not have to regret my score later!

This is quite cool! I like the Rhodes playing.

For some reason I’d always thought Supertramp were a sub-Bee-Gees, disco outfit, so now I feel a bit musically embarrassed. Still not sure it’s my bag though. Mark Twain said that “if you don’t like the weather in New England now, just wait five minutes”. I often feel the same way about prog, but in reverse. A song will start and you think it’s going to be amazing but then it goes on for too long and goes through so many changes that by the end it bares no resemblance to the song that you really liked at the beginning. This album had a bit of that going on. Didn’t hate it but just felt like it added up to less than the sum of its parts for me.

A very interesting album to end the week on. I really like the album cover and there were times I felt trapped in space listening to this but something about it I liked. I really liked Bloody Well Right, too.

Not my thing so much but good to run too

There were many points throughout the album where it was so close to being excellent, but it never quite hit the mark.

I got bored with a couple of tracks and it's not their best but really enjoyable overall.
