Solidly meh. Nothing stood out as great, but also nothing god awful.

Light 6

Mi aspettavo qualcosa che mi facesse dire “Wow, meglio dei Trammps, questi sì che sono Supertramps!” E invece no. Ma bell’album

Super delicious

It was ok

It's alright. MUCH prefer Breakfast In America.

Some of the albums on this list are just so boring I am actually fascinated. This is one of them.

A pretty good album, loved the song Dreamer.

decent, have already listened to it a few times. crime of the century is definitively my favourite track.

what I expect of prog rock

fairly ok

#422. If you're only going to put one Supertramp album on this list, I'm not sure this is the one I'd pick, but it's uh... fine. It's ok. It's not terrible, but I definitely don't find myself getting all that interested while listening to it. 3/5: yeah.

Went faster than I expected.

3.5, more pop than I expected

It was just OK.

Not bad. Another one of those albums that's probably better in small chunks. Best tracks are Bloody Well Right and Crime of the Century. 3 stars.

This record is a poppier Dark Side of the Moon or a less speedy Can't Buy a Thrill. It's fine but I prefer those records if I'm being honest.

Not bad very cinematic

Not sure what I’m missing with this one. It feels and sounds extremely insignificant. I don’t dislike much, if anything, about it, but there’s not a single element of this band or record that I haven’t heard done better (and more memorably) a thousand times before. 3/5

I did not enjoy this. (Okay, it was better in the last few tracks - I listened with headphones the next day. It’s somewhere between 2.5 and 3, I guess.)

interesting

Crime of the century ist top. Ansonsten nicht so mein Ding.

very pink floyd 70s core lol

Anyone else feel weirded out by this? It's just such a weird mix of nostalgia and melancholy and maybe even some drugs. Typically the 70s are always a groovy time but it just seems kind of too mellow here.

Started off strong and then I just started losing interest as the album went on. The music is good, but the songs are drawn out.

I like their sound but nothing stood out as memorable for some reason.

👍 not bad

Þessi munnharpa í byrjun er íkonísk. Góð lög inn á milli, en í heild fannst mér þetta hins vegar ekki skemmtileg plata. Supertramp eiga mörg skemmtilög, en þessi plata var ekki að heilla mig.

4 star potential?

No identity besides "made in the 70s." Some undeniable hits, radio and movie-friendly songs. It sounded like a cover band of some of the great prog rockers but nothing to make them stand on their own. Another in the nebulous wave of this Era of music.

For some reason, my 21 year old son *loves* this band. It’s just about OK in my opinion

To me, it feels like there is a lack of identity here. Had someone played this album for me without telling me what it was, I would not have guessed all these songs were the same band. However, I can't say there were any tracks that I disliked, but I definitely preferred the more synthy/proggy ones. My standouts: School, Dreamer, Rudy

Was surprised when I listened to this. It didnt sound like the SuperTramp O had heard in the past. It's got a great sound- very technical instrumentation and more varied lyrics and sound from song to song. I found myself enjoying it- I did find myself hoping for a standout hit. Overall- very solid album. Probably 3.5/5, but not quite a 4

Crime of the Century is an interesting album, proggy but poppy, pink Floyd-ish. I find it never really hits the highs that seem possible, it almost holds back a bit. 5.9/10

Solid ‘70s pop band doing a prog album. I feel like this is a niche of a niche genre within itself. It’s fun, it’s good, it’s cute. I’m not blown away. Sometimes, it comes close to B-tier ‘70s prog rock, but other times, it feels like Theatre Kid Music™️. Flip a coin. Either way, it’s not going to change you life. Give me Breakfast in America any day, and I don’t even know if I’d consider that album essential. But at least it’s more kitschy and more fun and definitely more relevant than the mid-ness of Crime of the Century.

in theory, as a former prog kid who knows and enjoys many of Supertramp's radio hits, I should be really into this. but for some reason, it just didn't leave a whole lot of an impression. the scope of this band's ambition is in full display from front to back (kudos to the sharp production on this album, which presents these complex studio arrangements with pristine clarity!), and there's plenty of moments across these songs that I think come together in a really satisfying way (the end of "Rudy" probably being my favorite example), but on the whole I find it kind of unfulfilling. in trying to reach a middle ground between the complexity of progressive rock and the accessibility of pop, it sort of compromises on both ends. many of these songs aim for a kind of theatricality and camp that feels somewhat kneecapped by the band's need to play things so straight. it may grow on me with repeated listens, and I'm definitely interested in seeing where the band took this sound on their later 70s output, but I do have to wonder why this album was chosen for the 1001 over one of their later ones. I feel like I'm still hearing a band finding their footing, despite a few standouts like "Bloody Well Right" and the title track. some great saxophone solos too! strong 6/10.

3☆/5 10.23.2024

It's okay. The hits are bangers. The rest sound like they're stuck in that lead singer's squeaky purgatory.

Some recognisable tunes

I thought this was pretty good - some of the songs were quite a bit too long. I didn't know they sounded that way in 1974 - it feels definitely more of a 1978-9 sound.

This was only okay. Honestly I find Supertramp just a lil creepy/uncanny. I like some of their stuff musically but maybe it's the vocals that just make it feel "off"

Solid sound well done.

This is fine, but it all sounds like mediocre Pink Floyd B-sides. Except for school, that track fucks.

Not really

Fun at times, but mainly I wanted it over with. 2.5 stars.

Ambivalent would be the way I feel about this album & band. Didn’t want to like it but some of it I do. Just like their more successful “Breakfast in America”. And for some reason I confuse this band with REO Speedwagon.

Good time but not essential. The singles are good

Not a big prog rock fan. But still not bad.

Its got some hits

Super fun for the most part. A few times it just kinda felt like background music but it was definitely an enjoyable album to listen to. 6.5/10

The best known songs are honestly pretty entertaining. The rest occilates between a not-so-bad pop version of prog rock, and boring and overblown prog.

I found this rather boring

Love bloody well right.

Supertramp is the English equivalent of the Steve Miller Band. Forgettable, paint by numbers, 70s rock. Yet another bizarre inclusion on this list.

I think this should have been Breakfast in America (which I don’t believe is on this list) it’s a perfectly serviceable album with some real fun songs here and there. It just is about as dated as an album can get haha

A clean and well-produced prof-rock album. Bloody Well Right deserves the airplay it continues to get. Not much else here that is memorable.

The number of times I’ve heard about Supertramp is probably about as many times as I’d heard about a band like Bad Company before hearing their first album. I didn’t like Bad Company’s album. I found it generic and derivative and mostly just bland. This was not Bad Company’s album. This was leagues better. Eight songs and 44 minutes means you’re gonna have some longer songs here. I can deal with that. Hell I don’t mind that, if the songs are good. I’m happy to say that they pretty much pull that off here. It would be easy for an album with songs that are mostly five minutes or longer in length to have one or any of those songs over. It’s welcome. It has to be musically interesting enough it has to go places it has to take me from one place to another to another and then bring me back home. It can’t just be a six minute song that doesn’t go anywhere or repeats verse-chorus-verse and then ends with a resounding chorus. They don’t do that here, and I’m very grateful for it. Instead, these songs go places. Some have long drawn out intros that then move into something more striking or complex. Others come at you hard right away but they find a way to go somewhere else while they’re there. Spotify attributes the genre symphonic rock to this album. That’s not a genre I’ve heard of too much, but I think if I had to assign that label to one band, it might be Supertramp. There are elements of other genres here. They use of horns and I think strings a couple of times, maybe. I always appreciate it and seeking to fill out their sound with horns or pianos. I am myself a sucker for rock ‘n’ roll saxophone, and if it ever appears in a song that song gets the thumbs up for me. So that was very much appreciated here. I am left with a little bit lingering feeling of forgetfulness about this album. I don’t mean to say that the album itself is entirely forgettable, just that half an hour after listening to it to sit down to write this, I don’t know that I could tell you how any of the songs go. Maybe that’s just the nature of their songs, because they do weave from place to place and end somewhere different than they started. That can make them hard to recall on demand unless you know them very well. Or maybe it’s just that the overall product, while it presents as impressive and grand, isn’t quite what you thought it was. I don’t know where the answer lies there, that would require more than just one listen. For now, I leave it at 3.5 stars. When I’m faced with a half star rating I have to decide which way to round for the purposes of this project. If I liked it enough, I round it up, giving it the benefit of the doubt. But if I wasn’t thrilled with I round down. I’m very tempted to round up for this, because I do think this album has a lot of potential upon relistens. But I just don’t think I can do that at this point. And so for me, I round down, giving it three stars. Standout Tracks: Bloody Well Right, Hide in Your Shell

Good as an album, no particular individual song captured me and unlikely to listen again

back to back some of my fav artists! not my fav supertramp album, but great sound regardless.

3.5 for sure, but I can't rate it that. 4 seems too much and 3 too little, but 3 feels more right, so with 3 we go. Every song is good, it really is, but there isn't a special sauce to any of them. Compared to the other things that Supertramp has put out, all the songs hold their own, but are drowned by their other works. On their own the songs in CoTC are very, very, very good. With amazing instrumentation and compositions that make it an actual listening experience. 7/10 for sure, High B, lower A tier album.

Prog rock Brit pop mix. Hit or miss. Slightly too theatrical for my taste.

Pretty forgettable. They hadn’t learned to make super catchy tunes yet, but I know they’ll get there.

Prog rock with a lot of piano. Rock opera. This is what inspired the rock operas in Home Movies.

Bodacious and probably groundbreaking for its time, but nothing terribly exciting for me to hear today

It was okay. Some cool ideas and good musicianship but I barely cared enough about what they were singing about to notice.

Definitely interesting. Kept getting Pink Floyd and The Who vibes.

Some classic songs, generally good pleasant album to listen to.

Good album. Decided to download Greatest Hits

70s progrock that sounds… very much like the 70s. Lacks the timeless quality of a Dark Side of the Moon. The title track is pretty solid, but the rest is very forgettable.

I wasn't expecting it to be so musical theater (not a negative thing, just an observation). It gives me heavy reminders of ELO with a little bit more prog thrown in. It's not bad, though when I stop focusing on it, it because too easy for it to be background music. Favorite tracks: "Bloody Well Right", "If Everyone Was Listening"

Started off good, then got a lil dull.

I could easily get on board with some of this stuff and not so much with other parts. Overall it was OK+.

Better than one recalls, but still not great. More poppy than proggy, ST pale in comparison to Genesis or Pink Floyd, though there is some quality (as well as plenty of prog's preening and overambitiousness). "School" has held up well –it's easily the best cut here. The hits also have meritorious moments, though one finds them net-net annoying. "Dreamer" in particular seems to have been totally remixed (not just remastered). Sounds livelier and more earwormy perhaps, compared to the real-time radio of one's youth, but it's pretty mediocre overall and definitely grating. "Rudy" is overwrought, as is the title cut. The overall vibe seems vaguely more '80s than '70s – does this mean ST were ahead of their time? And if so does that make them slightly less embarrassing to like? They aren't the least talented hitmakers, but roughly on par with, say, Styx and Huey Lewis. Thus, one must round down. The whiff of embarrassment remains to the end.

Gear: Dunu SA6 Artwork: ⚖️⛓️🌟 Mix (2014 Remaster): 🎧😘🤌 Musik: 🤩😳😟 Wertung: ⚖️⚖️⚖️/5

Classic rock staple. Not unpleasant music, but Really overplayed. I only really know the major singles of prog rock. I enjoyed "School" and will need to look at the lyrics a bit more closely. "If Everyone Was Listening" is apparently inspired by Shakespeare, so I'll need to reserve further judgement.

Would I have time for this if I didn't love Supertramp as a kid? Probably not. Then again, if I didn't know about boring prog rock would I doubt that Supertramp is at least decently good? Also probably not. There's more going for it than other pop-oriented prog. The songwriting might not be that special but the vocals are usually good, the sounds are more Beatles-y pleasant than they are Pink Floyd 'atmospheric', more 'oh you know what there is saxophone' than 'why is there saxophone'. music: appreciated. (⌐o_0)

Bloody Well Right is the worst, most English song that I like. Breakfast In America maybe a bit better than this one to my ear, but I think Supertramp is good and cool. They prog, that’s for sure.

Honestly not that bad. Quite a typical prog album of the 70s, it would be quite boring if not for the guitar and sax solo in the title track

I was just going to write this off as annoying dad space rock but it's pretty well done. Kind of Styxish. Kind of ELOish. It isn't really done in a super unique way but the songs are infectious enough to make it a fun listen.

its fine but no really my jam

The wildest music that a 70,s man in a full suit would be listening to. Didn’t mind it or love it

I enjoyed this -- love the mid-70s saxophone. I like the "cleaner" songs with more piano, which provided the vocals a little more room.

A few cool songs - the first one, especially. Just ok overall.

Pretty groovy, not a big fan of the percussive use of clapping and snapping

Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Sometimes indulgent, but some high points too.

What is this? Sort of prog pop? A wee bit camp. A wee bit funky. More than a hint of Joel/John piano-man. A dash of Pink Floyd. Quite enjoyable really.

The 70’s were definitely different times…. I really don’t know how I feel about this one so am going to sit on the fence with a 2.5 if it was possible…

It’s a decent enough listen. Low 3.

They were clearly inspired by Pink Floyd when making some of these songs. Good use of keyboards and wind instruments. Just sounds very 70’s. Favorites were Bloody Well Right, Hide In Your Shell, and Dreamer.

I have never been able to really get into Supertramp and I'm a huge fan of 70's rock. The band lies somewhere in the cracks of pop and prog, like a not as talent Gabriel era Genesis. It's fine perhaps a bit boring to be honest and for whatever reason I cannot stand Bloody Well Right.

I don’t feel the prog, just a decent pop/rock record. The several hits on this record are good and memorable, even nostalgic. A good listen.

It was completely fine. But I listened to it yesterday and already can't remember much from it.

Album was decent. Missing some real standout songs, but still overall listenable. 3/5 Might listen again

it was interesting, and novel sounding

title track is a massive highlight, but I don’t really care for other stuff. also lyrics kinda suck, sometimes it feels like a downgrade of pink floyd’ attempt to portray society topics. anyway it’s ok, it’s a good product of its era

Maybe 3.5. Breakfast is the better album

This type of music is not generally my cup of tea, but I can appreciate why other people may like it. It is sophisticated yet very accessible. There clever arrangements and hooks all over the place. Musicianship is pretty much flawless, as each song really is its own universe. So - it's competent, and even beautiful at times, and yet that is not quite enough to move me. What I get from experiences like this is really an ongoing inquiry about what is it about music that gets my nervous system and my imagination moving? I don't quite know, and it is probably a wide spectrum of things, moments, and experiences. And that a lot of them are linked to relationships: parents, siblings, friends, lovers, weddings, burials, campfires, roadtrips, conversations, heartbreaks and love. And nowadays every once in a while I hear something for the first time out of the blue and that really rocks my world - Arvo Pärt, James Blake, Idles, Pomme, Elizabeth Cotten, Karen Dalton, Jeremy Dutcher, Elisapie, Gòrecki. But I never quite know what is going on when I get these goose bumps. I guess that might be spirit.

i really liked this - it was a good length and the songs go really well together but are still sonically varying. favourites have to be Asylum and If Everyone Was Listening‼️‼️

An interesting mix of songs, some were really good, and some were eh, but overall pretty good. My favs were school asylum and crime of the century. 6.75/10

Oh finally!, an answer to the question: "What if Pink Floyd was cringe?" I listened to this start to finish twice and I genuinely hated it on the first listen except for If Everyone Was Listening. It was better the second time through but I doubt it will grow on me beyond that. I see the potential though, which is diminished in just how LONG the tracks are. I feel like you really shoot yourself in the foot when the production is great and the music is great, but never consistently enough to have a 5/5 track on the whole album (every track had at least 2 truly excellent moments, placed between 3 extra minutes of nonsense). The least streamed song on this album is Asylum, followed by If Everyone Was Listening which is hilarious because they were my favourites and probably the only ones I would listen to outside of this context. Legitimately a 2/5 on first listen but I will give it a 3/5 because it genuinely did grow on me a bit, but it probably realistically is a 2.5/5 or generally falls somewhere between a 2 and a 3 for me. I am so surprised this album is not more divisive and is loved so much, but maybe I just don't get it

Avausraita kova, muuten ihan ok

Thoughts before listening: Supertramp is one of those classic rock bands that I like all their songs, but I have never really dug deep on any of their albums. I know they get a lot positive press while not being a household name. Review: This is pretty good although I'm a bit surprised that I don't recognize these songs. There is a theatricality to this that I was not expecting. Reminds me quite a bit of Queen and other early prog rock bands. Best songs are "Bloody Well Right" and "Crime of the Century". 3-stars

It’s hard for me to be objective because I did not enjoy this, but I can imagine people have enjoyed it.

I can see where this fits between prog rock (e.g. Pink Floyd) and yacht rock (e.g. Steely Dan). They try their hand at ELO and Queen along the way. All OK, but the album doesn't do it better than the others

Like the logical/responsible song, which I'm pretty sure is these guys, there are hints at greatness and the melodies/riffs hint that they are going to go somewhere awesome any moment, but they never do.

Only two good songs (Hide in Your Shell & If Everyone Was Listening) and a decent closer makes three stars. The rest is just average.

Pleasant listen, but it went by so easily I cannot even name a favourite track

goooood vibes. I'd never heard any of these before

Really not for me. Probably never will be. I really messed up giving Kanye West three stars that one time. Now it makes me like inflating other people's ratings. But if I had never seen the Kanye Album, I would probably give this one three stars. So I will.

I have tripped across this album many-a-time in the stores, and never listened to it. I was surprised by how much I appreciated it. I was expecting mid-70s Yatch-rock (no logical reason why) and got more psychedelic and prog-rock. Key tracks Rudy and Asylum. I am going to come back to this one.

Weirdly we were deep diving into Supertramp last week as we heard an amazing rendition of Goodbye Stranger by a School or Rock band from Arlington Heights, Illinois. We actually heard their version twice. I glanced at the albums and songs before putting g this one on. I saw that the hits were all on “Breakfast in America”. However, I really liked this album as a whole. “School” is a great opener and I really liked “Bloody Well Right”. Supertramp is such a weird group that I know so little about. They definitely made some great pop rock music and feel like they are underrated. I will be listening to this one again!

Suprema

Pretty good songs. Not the catchiest album

2.5 Bumped to a 3 for sentimental reasons, but I'm fine never hearing this again.

furðupopp. til í meira. 3,5.

I remember how big Supertramp used to be. I also remember why I don't listen to them. I like how the singers compliment each other with totally different styles. That rhythm section is not strong. Don't get me started on bands that have a sax player who plays a useless bit every 3 songs. After School, Bloody Well Right, Hide In Your Shell and Dreamer are decent. The rest is filler to me.

In late 70s prog rock, their music has a distinctive good-times happiness air about it.

I can dig it.

This is a good album. Supertramp has better stuff though. My dad is a big supertramp guy.

I enjoy "Breakfast In America" and "Even In The Quietest Moments" but there is nothing interesting in "Crime Of The Century", sorry. If anything, Supertramp sounds like a (poor) Pink Floyd cover band in the album.

I didn't listen but I'm afraid to admit it

I love this album - a real classic! Not their best album though.

the craftsmanship and production are absolutely great but I can't stand that voice. 3 stars

Still a good album to listen to after decades. However, I'm not satisfied with the vocal performances, the voice is a bit thin and can't always fulfill the musical requirements. But what the hell, good sound and pleasing tracks.

When I was a kid, my parents had this on CD, and they also had Smash Mouth’s Fush Yu Mang. I guess because both covers are in space and have the band title in the top left, I got them mixed up. This doesn’t really sound like Smash Mouth, it turns out. Album’s pretty good though and the cover/title kinda rule

Obviously i know these blokes from the Magnolia soundtrack. I was shocked to learn that they are from the uk tho. They have a real American sensibility … anyways. I enjoy their vibes and am gonna check out more trax

This is a hard one for me. On one hand, most of the record was decent but not amazing, but then there are some moments where I thought it was really really good. But that quality just never seems to seep into a whole song. Oh well, maybe on other listens I'll be able to enjoy the rest of the songs. Fav songs: - Asylum - Dreamer

This one was a fun listen and had a couple of solid tracks (Asylum, Dreamer). Other than that, there were a few songs that were a bit forgettable, but overall it was a decent album.

A couple nice tunes, but nothing memorable - there was a hit or two, but not a sound to return to regularly.

Too soft and musical-like style for my taste. Great musicians!

It’s more sophisticated than yacht rock, but not proggy enough to be prog rock. It was an interesting listen that didn’t quite scratch the prog rock itch. I had Aja by Steely Dan yesterday and there’s definitely more here than there.

My initial thought on first listen, before even looking at the album storks, was “This sounds like one of those albums from the 70’s that would have a spaceship on the cover.”

'School' is a super fun album introduction. It sounds like a video game placement. I've heard 'Dreamer' before but I can't place it. This album sounds really fun and experimental.

Fun. But not Breakfast in America. Hope that lands on this list.

Really very good with a couple absolute classics.

Crime of the Century This doesn’t have The Logical Song on it. That’s the only Supertramp song I know. It’s a good song. Wasn’t sure what to expect with this. I was slightly concerned as it was tagged as prog - I thought we might have some more Yes type music on our hands. I suppose it’s Yes adjacent, but to me it is more listenable with a more obvious pop edge. School has some nice textures to it, including the piano in the 2nd half but it doesn’t grab me much overall. I liked Bloody Well Right though, the keyboards in particular and the overall rocky poppiness of it. Hide in Your Shell is also not a bad track, but I’m not keen on the sax. Once Asylum kicks in and gets going it’s much better than its start suggests it might be, there’s a slight bluesy edge to the vocal which I like and a little bit of a grower of a melody. Dreamer I have actually heard before - I didn’t know that was Supertramp. A very nice catchy bit of early 70s pop. Rudy is similar to Asylum in how it starts off unpromisingly, but develops into a decent song. I like the squelchy synths and then the wah wah and strings at the back end. Really sounds a lot like Sting singing in that bit. If Everyone Was Listening starts off a lot like a Queen song, which for me is not a good thing, and then the oboe/clarinet I’m not keen on. Not my fav song. A bit poor in fact. Crime of the Century feels quite Pink Floyd, without quit reaching the required levels of studied grandiosity, but I liked its shifting musicality, around the repeating piano. Overall there is a fair bit of progyness, and sometimes it just edges too far that way, but in the main it’s paired with relatively straight ahead, enjoyable enough 70s rock/pop, with some additional blues and soul elements. It’s not blown me away, but there are some interesting little corners to it. In the right mood I’d listen again, and I think I will check out the Breakfast in America album. Middle of the road 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

So light and airy. Excellent prog rock. Bloody Well Right and Dreamer are both fantastic Favourite songs: Bloody Well Right, Dreamer, Asylum Least favourite songs: School 3/5

Premise: School + Hide in your Shell + If Everyone Was Listening, weren't available on YT music for some reason, so my review is only partial. I found it alright, but nothing spectacular, especially considering the prog rock gems that came out in those years. "Dreamers" in particular I found it very annoying

Typical 70’s British rock sound. Guitar was good but songs a little long and didn’t make a lot of sense.

I was confused by the silence in the first song but the instrumentals were great

it's another "meh" album. some nice tracks with piano & harmonica, but others are overly synth & too long

The production on this is really cool. Very jam-bandy and I don’t mind.

Quirky and enjoyably nuts. Favourite track: Dreamer is standout – I've always loved it.

A couple of songs I remembered. Most I had never heard before. Meh.

Pop prog.

🤷🏻‍♀️

A good listen

Dreamer ist der einzige Hit auf dem Album. Der Rest ist Durchschnitt.

This was a good listen but the mixing at times was either too quiet or very loud out of nowhere. I enjoyed the spacy elements and it felt a little like Roger Waters at times

Pretty good album. 3/5

A cool album. Never heard it all the way through before- pretty good. Does not natch "Breakfast in America" but has hits that you will enjoy ("Bloody Well Right" and "Dreamer")

The singer sounded like an old man but I liked the horn and piano

I can only take these guys in small doses. The record is fine.

Supertramp is an artist I actually have zero experience with. I have never heard a song from them. Not even the big hits. I’ve been intrigued by them before. But I’ve never thought to seek out their music and give it a chance. And now after having heard it, I think with this album they pushed pop forward to the next level in many ways. Similar to how Steely Dan evolved jazz-infused soft rock with their records. And in many ways, this feels like it has a lot of the sophistication that Steely Dan also displays, just without the jazziness. Super layered and detailed songs that are paced really well, even if sometimes certain elements don’t hit as well as others. I will admit that each song does at least one interesting thing, but many of these songs overall aren’t great complete packages. I know the influence this band has had on many artists I love. That influence extends out even to bands like Tame Impala. And I really wanted to enjoy this more than I did. I really do enjoy certain parts of this. And I love how weird and unique it gets in many places. But I was left feeling a little disappointed at what could’ve been. It’s sort of a bummer that this is the only record of theirs on the list, because I would love to see if they fixed the issues I have on future albums. Not like I can’t listen to it on my own though. Rating: 6/10

It’s okay.

Enjoyed it. Pink Floyd ish at times. Last track esp but I was falling asleep. Ambient noises couldn’t tell if real.

Enjoyed listening to this :))

Overall this felt competent and had its own thing going on but none of it really landed with me. The dynamics were all over the place which makes for a tough first listen.

another new one! how exciting! i've never listened to supertramp before because in my mind its not a real band, but apparently they are! and i had a good time!

A classic three. Nothing that offended me, but nothing that engaged me. Serviceable 70's prog/pop nonsense.

Pretty good! Solid end to end listen.

hygge :D :D 3/5 tænker jeg

I love Supertramp. While this isn’t my favorite of their albums, it’s still good.

Not their best

Pretty good, up there with Breakfast in America at times School Wayne Chooney album intro slappers here and there but hey ho I can't be generous with every album

Muy buenos arreglos y producción, el progresivo no me emociona

listened 3x. not bad. 2.6/5

This flows along innocently and fits nicely in its genre. There is little to get excited about. The song structures can be somewhat complicated.

Yeah i like this is, supertramp has its own sound and its good stff

Solid rock opera. I think the only thing supertramp sometimes suffers from is star power. everything about the music is there, there just isnt a sense of personality in here all the time maybe? hard to grasp. Either way, super impressive arrangements

School Hide In Your Shell Dreamer Rudy Great instrumental sections. Fun to listen to but definitely not an every day listen or anything I would call a banger.

Popular group... Commercially successful

Decent listening, but I'd not say significant. Doesn't have the logical song, which is Supertramp's best.

Echoes of Electric Light Orchestra and Elton John. Supertramp sounds cinematic and larger than life, much like those others. It's an odd choice of albums though, as 'Breakfast in America' is the more polished and more celebrated album. 'Crime of the Century' is fine but it pales in comparison to their masterpiece.

It was pretty OK.

British Prog rock bands excel in writing songs about childhood, mental illness, and isolation. 3.5/5

Supertramp kind of exist on the classic rock spectrum somewhere between Queen, Pink Floyd and Yes. Not as poppy as Queen and not as proggy as Pink Floyd or Yes. I had always known them primarily from the slew of hits from Breakfast in America. This album is a bit more raw and in that way a bit more exciting. The first half is a showcase of some surprising pop gems. They have a knack for striking a balance between artsy prog and hook laden pop. The last 3 songs are more prog than pop, but they avoid being excessively drawn out and spacey. It may not be as classic or essential as some other albums from the era, but it’s a strong effort and worthy of a listen.

Great album! Never listened to it all the way through but I was familiar with most of the songs on here.

I don't care.

Fun 70's hits. No songs particularly called to me. Not sure I need to listen to this album again, but definitely another of their albums could be cool.

Weird songs about school

Rock viejuno de peña con el pelo largo y rizado "ecleptic" que dirían algunos. Relajeo, la portada promete algo que le disco no termina de entregar. No ta mal tho. 3,9/5

Emblazoned by that piano sound that enriched my 70s youth I suppose SuperTramp were more prog in scope.Quite hard to listen to aside from there main hits.Listening to this album was a frustration into pinning down a flow but no one ever stated music had to be a easy listen.Talent is abundant & I get it if you get it but just not for me.

School: has a nice musical vibe too it, long and surprising journey. definitely tickled my brain on some of the parts. Bloody Well Right: kinda boring, feels like I've heard the melody over a 1000 times before. Hide In Your Shell: such an upbeat and fun song! this is a song i could listen to when i walk down the street and be happy. Asylum: again a very boring one. i actually really tried to like this one but it was just so unoriginal and plain. i liked the end a bit tho. Dreamer: the way dreamer is being said oh my lord jesus christ! its such a fantastic and silly song!!! Rudy: i dont really know what this song makes me feel. kinda good and has a good beat to it i guess? probably to long for me. the end was so random lmao. If Everyone Was Listening: ok but forgettable. didn't have anything interesting for it to become something more than a track on an album. Crime Of The Century: melody and instruments goes hard! other than that there wasn't anything else that got my attention. it was good-ish

Because of how nice this sounds, I hesitate to give it less than 3 stars. I want to because I detest songs that last longer than 5 minutes...but I guess that's more an issue of my short attention span than an issue with the album itself. 3/5

The hits are bangers. The rest is fine. Nothing special.

Not to my personal taste, but there is some great sax solos!

I hereby rate this 3/5

Not bad, have not heard most of these songs before

Musically appealing, kind of weird, but not bad

Medium!

If the Beatles made a rock album

only kind of interesting

70’s ultimate pop rock band. Lots of hits. Fun to listen to, to remember the sounds of the 70’s.

Wasn’t a huge fan at the time—still not.

3.5 good songs but sometimes the production went a bit over board and came off as cheesy

Solid. Classic Rock Radio fare

First Supertramp album to make waves. A good prog rock album.

I like Supertramp. The blending of pop and prog that they pull off when they are firing on all cylinders is really fun. I had heard "Bloody Well Right" before, but while I have spun Breakfast in America a bunch of times and really like it, I do not believe that I had heard anything else from this album before. Honestly, other than "Bloody Well Right", I don't hear anything on this album that I would necessarily want to hear again. Crime of the Century seems to take itself a little more seriously than the band does on Breakfast in America. I am giving the album three stars because it is Supertramp, but not peak Supertramp.

This form of prog rock has the ability to hook me in at times, with their attention to groove and accessibility. I grew up on some of these tracks on classic rock radio and Supertramp has earned their place in classic rotations by making some tracks that have depth but are eternally relatable while being genuinely funny. Their sense of humor is not undercut by their songs ability to genuinely hook you in with heart and sonic diversity. At times they groove, rock, and then pull you in with earnest heart. This album isn't my jam, but I can't ignore its charms.

Первый и последний трек понравился, остальное недоQween какое-то.

Actually really liked this. It has a freshness to it that lots of other '70s rock really lacks these days.

Good album- 2 songs I loved the rest were fine.

01) School - 8,0 02) Bloody Well Right - 8,0 03) Hide In Your Shell - 7,0 04) Asylum - 7,0 05) Dreamer - 9,0 06) Rudy - 7,0 07) If Everyone Was Listening - 7,0 08) Crime of the Century - 7,0 TOTAL: 7,50 (75/100) I knew only one song ("Dreamer"). The rest was ok. Some of these songs are really too long. I think I'm gonna love "Breakfast In America" better.

i listened to like half

Was solid, some solid keys and sax, pretty weird and spacier than I anticipated but I dug parts of it a lot. Not sure how much I'll actually listen to this going forward though.

Unique sound of early alt rock. Gets a little tedious

Nice tunes, last song as cool surprise as it was used as sample before

This sounds very Billy Joel to me. But Joel’s breakthrough didn’t happen until 1977 (although “Piano Man” was in 1973). This album was 1974, which makes me think they were aware of what each other were doing. Some songs alternate between blues riffs and jazz. Or even Tin Pan Alley piano. Basically the prog-rock-lite version of Billy Joel 5/10

Good energy. Too long

I don't know its ok maybe I didn't "get" it and needs another listen

I had a lot of issues getting through this one, but it wasn’t too too bad

very good 80s vibes, lots of classics i didn’t recognize until they played

OK, but not a big fan

Dig it

Definitely has a Pink Floyd feel. A few great songs, but the rest seem a bit noodley.

I saw Supertramp and expected Breakfast in America, which I love. But I hadn't listened to Crime of the Century before. I am familiar with "Bloody Well Right" but not much else. Another exciting record for me! It’s not bad! Bloody Well Right, while a good song, isn’t enough to carry the whole album.

Sound is all over the place. Possibly my earphones to blame? An interesting album, I quite like it but I feel that it would need a few listens to really get “into” it.

This didn't do anything for me. It didn't hold my attention, I generally forgot it was playing, and I certainly wasn't doing anything terribly distracting.

Not bad but wasn’t feeling it. I have heard of Supertramp but not sure I could name any specific songs. Favorite from the album is probably ‘Dreamer’

Overall alright, very well put together but not really my thing. The last few songs went hard as fuck though.

Man, I feel like I'm learning from this project that like dramatic sweeping slightly proggy rock is just not really for me. I respect what this is going for, and it times it grabs me, but at the end of the day I don't really connect with it all that much. Sounds like an album I would have loved at 13, and I don't mean that in a bad way! But not really hitting for me now. "Dreamer" is fun. Definitely can hear a bit of Roger Waters Pink Floyd in here at parts. Idk maybe it's winning me over a bit.

Sonically this is a smoooooth rock album, the saxaphone, piano, syth strings, trumpets, the bass tone and bass performances all help bring that sonic smoothness. Had Dark Side of the Moon, not dropped the year before this, it would maybe get a higher rating from me as this fits in hand and hand with Queen, Pink Floyd and The Beatles sonically. Leans more symphonic and poppy than experimental. I don't tent to lean towards symphonic rock so I don't know what type of mood I would have to be in to put this on again, but if it were on the radio I don't think I would feel inclinded change the station. "Bloody Well Right" is the song that catches my attention the most on the album. The vocal performance and instrumentation during the verses is my favorite section of music on the album, as it's the doomiest part of the album. They mix that doomy verse with a poppy Beatles/Queen feeling chorus, and then a soloing saxaphone outro accompanied by hand claps, makes for a head bopper of a song. "Dreamer" is another stand out, probably the catchiest, poppiest, and certainly dreamiest, and most "Pet Sounds" by the Beach Boys feeling song on the album. Awesome vocal sounds and performance, this group can harmonize and do gang vocals with the best of them. Other stand out moments are the outro of "Asylum" starting with the soloing guitar at 5:30 and improvisational feeling vocal sounds leading to the yelp of "not quite right." The funky "Rudy" with the mix of funk and synth strings was a recipe for a bopper. Beautiful sounding album all around. Equal mix of poppy to epic, grooving to emotinally moving rock songs. The final song "Crime Of The Centruy pulled this album into a solid 3 star rating for me. Doomiest Track: "Bloody Well Right" Playlist Worthy: "Bloody Well Right", "Dreamer", "Asylum", "Crime Of The Century"

Pink Floyd find ich besser

Listenable.

Strong start but I fell off towards the second half

weird but OK

This started off great but didn’t really fulfill

I’m proud to say I listened to the entire Supertramp album with no skipping and actually paying attention. I’m surprised to report that I definitely do not dislike them nearly as much as I thought. In fact, I enjoyed about 70% of the album. I prefer one vocalist, Davies, over the other. I think Hodson’s voice is a bit too twee at times. I’ll wind up rating it a three on the site, but it’s really more like 3 1/2. My biggest problem with them is that they are too prog lite for me to listen to them extensively. I like my prog a bit more complex. Supertramp is yacht prog. 😁

I can hear how it may have influenced other musicians and how existed between rock and pop of the era. Sounds a decade or so ahead of it's time. Really has a more prog pop rock feel to it.

Bloody Well Right. 3/5

I had high hopes given everyone else's ratings. It started off strong but I got kind of bored after the first 3 songs. Some of the songs were a bit too long for me.

6/10 - I liked school and crime of the century the rest were ok. The only supertramp song I knew before this was breakfast in america which I really did not like so this was a nice surprise.

Didn't do anything for me I listened to the whole album and I do not recall a single feature of it sorry

For a long time I was familiar with Supertramp only for their silly pop songs like “Breakfast in America”, “Goodbye Stranger”, and “The Logical Song”. I still remember the first time I heard “Bloody Well Right” on the radio ~2008, and was sort of amazed that the pop-rock station I was listening to was playing it, having no idea who the band was. After learning it was Supertramp, I gained a new appreciation for later pop-oriented Supertramp. Crime of the Century came at a time when Supertramp was transitioning from prog-rock to pop-rock, and it’s a perfect mix, akin to Yes at their best. I think I prefer Breakfast in America, but I don’t think I’d enjoy that as much without having known Crime of the Century.

Solid. Some great songs. Not one you NEED to hear. Just listen to the popular songs

i always assumed Supertramp was on of those big hair glam 80s bands. I was completely wrong and what a nice surprise! At first it kind of sounded like it was going to be more along the lines of Billy Joel but 2 or 3 songs in and I was completely surprised. It turned into a Pink Floyd-like journey. I put my phone down and listened in the dark on headphones and was blown away about half way through. I think i will revisit this album in the future. I usually write off old music but this is what this project is about.

Bloody Well Right is my favorite Supertramp tune. But it would seem it starts and ends there. I was aware of Dreamer growing up, but it wasn't for me. Much like the rest of this album. Most of the prog style just isn't my thing. 3

Als Jugendlicher viel gehört, heute nicht mehr so meins. Klar das man immer noch mitsingt!

Overall a pretty meh album. Very dad rock and middle of the road for my tastes but not bad overall

Very well done overall, nothing wrong with it. Sounded kinda like a bunch of different other bands that I've vaguely remembered and then stuck together. while an enjoyable listen, don't think I'll revisit it.

it's not the worst prog rock I've ever listened to.

I mean it was...interesting. Felt like the tracks didn't flew super well togheter like i expected, but overall the atmosphere is solid. Probably the most 70s prog rock sounding album i've ever heard. Plus, I love the cover, it's very suggestive. Favourite songs: Asylum, Rudy, Crime of the Century

School Bloody Well Right Crime Of The Century

Chill, loved the outerspace vibes. A bit Bowie sounding but nothing making me rock out.

I really liked the first few songs and I appreciate the variety of instruments. 3.5 almost a 4 star.

The related tracks were pretty great but the actual album was a bit eh...

Decent album by ST. It's not Breakfast in America but it has some cool tunes like Dreamer and Bloody Well Right 3

Didn’t get me. Sounded familiar but I don’t think I’d let it run if it came on shuffle

I personally like Breakfast In America better. This album does have Bloody Well Right though and has some all around good vibes.

crime of the century is my favorite one so far. haha that’s the name of the album. first half of the album felt like I belonged in a dive bar at 6pm in mid-southwest. awesome feeling really eased the stress of the airport.

One song I liked. One.

Good album with a few good songs

It's alright. Some good parts, but also some parts that drag. My favourite song was probably Dreamer, but nothing really stood out to me.

Rating: 6/10 Best songs: Hide in your shell

An okay pop rock album. I prefer breakfast in America as the hits are better in that one. This one has some catchy songs but some others are pretty boring or not too exciting. A very average album to me. 6.2/10

Well this is uber-70s rock. Not bad.

A good listen, some classics on here

I like it, definitely kind of funky and unusual.

This is fine. Pros: It's Pink Floyd lite. Nice playing. Interesting change-ups. Recognisable style and vocals. Cons: Very 70s art-rock. It hasn't really aged well like most 70s music. I didn't find myself bopping along, but neither was it terrible.

I'm not sure why the list felt the need to include this. How is this any different or better than the other prog rock albums around this time that were way more successful? There's definitely a dad rock bias in the list

Ganz gut, vor allem Dreamer und das letzte Lied. Richtig umgehauen hat es mich allerdings nicht und die Stimme des Sängers fand ich teilweise anstrengend.

Love this production, Bloody Well Right sorta cuts through but the rest of it never got to me. An easy listen, though.

Nice soft art rock.

The real crime of the century is Youtube Music making half the songs on this album unavailable >:( WEODEND! liked the vibe tho, good rockin beats and some good energy for my mid-Monday slump

immediately got hit with Pink Floyd flashbacks haven't finished this completely but definitely a vibe

Prog rock - not bad. 3.6

Another old school classic!

OK, I already knew the hits from this album and that was all that really stood out.

Lite kul, men mest jobbigt.

It didn't quite catch me, but I think I might would enjoy this more if I listened to it again.

Good listen

It’s like of Pink Floyd had a confusing step brother…prog rock with a saxophone… The 70’s were wild man… Highlights for me: Bloody Well Right

Album is great when you're fucken baked

Classic, nothing special I knew one song: (Dreamer)

Progressive pop/rock in a nice way.

Something is missing here for me. There were several songs that I *almost* loved, but then didn't. I think it's too of its time and can't quite commit to a solid vibe that I can get behind. It's good, but it's not great. That's my review.

This album is nice, but I'm not sure there's anything about it that would make me return to it.

ok not bad, cool keys. dreamer is pretty dope.

A weird combination of pop and rock that I enjoyed and vibed to.
