Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Maybe I'm missing something but I just can't listen to Joni for more than a song or two.

This album almost made me cry - out of boredom at first, then out of annoyance and frustration. I guess it would have been too pedestrian and common-sounding to call her album "Exodus", so it had to be in Arabic to appear more profound. Considering the religious meaning of the word in Islam, it's like comparing yourself to a prophet to describe your own cocaine-fueled roadtrip... But whatever. Of course she's wearing a fucking beret while holding a cigarette (with a dick protruding from her pocket instead of a baguette). It proves she is a free and very distinguished woman. At least the cover is honest, since the music itself is just as vain and self-indulgent. At no point during this album can anything vaguely resembling rythm be found. Joni actually barely sings at all - as often with the self-absorbed sham that is the "singer-songwriter" genre, she's just mumbling adolescent pseudo-poetry and insignificant anecdotes in a monotonous off-key voice. And of course most of the lyrics are about herself, because she's a fascinating individual we all need to know more about... This was truly painful to finish for me. I'd rather listen to spoken word, or simply to someone reciting actual good poetry. 1/10

Icon, but not my vibe. Maybe a 1.5 star. Standout: Hejira

I was really expecting to like this a lot more

Naw dawg.

Still cant stand her.

Are these songs all just boring narratives sung over whichever guitar riff just so happened to be playing at that given moment?

Back by unpopular demand, Joni Mitchell.

Joni Mitchell is an acquired taste. Unfortunately, it is one I have yet to acquire.

TBH, the music on this record is really good; would have been 100 times better as an instrumental album. 1 star, Joni, because I just heard about the follow up to this album and your blackface stunts. Also, your vocals and stream-of-consciousness lyrics border on gibberish and nonsense.

Not my jam

не угар не стеб не секси уверенный 0

Not my thing. A bit dull I'm afraid

I can't imagine a word where someone hears this the first time stone sober and think this is a good album. This is on the level of Neil Young in terms of unlistenable boomer nostalgia bs. I wanted to turn this off more than the noise albums designed to be unlistenable.

What a load of pretentious garbage. The music is basic beyond believe, the lyrics are meandering, and the singing is mostly talking.

I really can't abide Joni Mitchell. It's a shame because she should be right up my alley, but this is my third Joni Mitchell album and I cannot stand the way she sings. It's like the melody of the vocals doesn't match the music in a weird way. Sorry, Joni, it's not me, it's you.

Dumb cover

Better than blue, but still awful

1. coyote - 1 2. amelia - 0 3. bluez - 0 4. ztrange - 1 5. hejira - 0 6. zharon - 1 7. crouu - 1 8. motel - 1.5 9. roadz - 1 TERRIBLE ZONGZ AND VOICE

“I went to Staten Island to buy a mandolin” - yep, you sound like the kind of arsehole that would buy a mandolin. Fuck me, it’s like Colin Robinson decided to stop being on What We Do In The Shadows and record an album instead. My ring doorbell went off about halfway through the first several months of listening to this and that livened everything up considerably.

She may be a great songwriter, but her voice and delivery is painful on most songs I’ve ever heard her do. Joni Mitchell is simply not for me.

Folk Jazz being slushy music with no real form. It's like she is rhythmically talking and there happens to be music playing on the background.

Maybe I should pay attention to the lyrics/stories for each song, but this is completely forgettable. The fretless electric bass was nice, but I don't need to ever listen to this album again.

Very much not my thing.

not my thing, kinda whiny

This was so boring

Excellent album (for putting you to sleep zzzzz!) Boring!

Only heard first 2 tracks, the instrumental stuff is cool never rly been too big a fan of joni's voice tho

Really boring and kinda stupid.

Beat poetry with a monotonous voice. I hate this will all my being.

This is the most "not for me" album i've ever heard. It's every single element I can't stand rolled in to one.

I spent most of the album looking at the track list waiting for it to finish.

Didn't really pay attention but not a good thing that it couldn't hold my attention... Not for me

Pretentious, long-winded, completely un-musical, and dull. I have nothing positive to say about it. Not for me.

I took my own hegira after listening to this. A full on exodus from ever having to listen to Joni Mitchell again.

lol this sucked

Someone please explain the love for Joni Mitchell to me. On second thought, please fucking don’t. 1/5

She is like a folk run on sentence. Insufferable.

I have yet to listen to anything from the 70s that I genuinely like.

boring and just boring and boring some more.

boring

I'm not a Joni Mitchell fan

2/10 L'ho trovato molto meno interessante rispetto a Court and Spark, un altro album che mi è stato proposto qui. Pieno album country, ma che ho fatto fatica a terminare, trovandolo noioso. Chitarra acustica, armonica e noia. La bella voce non è sufficiente.

Not for me. 1/5

I think she writes lyrics to songs without the music, and then just smashes them into whatever random musical tune she likes. It is influential, in the same way that dinner time cleft lip aid adverts influence me to change the channel, rather than donate to a good cause.

took me absolutely ages. Didn't know if I was enjoying myself or just confused. Basically a singing version of action bronson where she just lays out random nonsense lines. I finally decided I wasn't enjoying myself during 'Blue Motel Room' when she said 'Will you tell all those girls your got... Geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerman measels? Tell them you got................... germs.' Shite

When it comes to Joni Mitchell's music, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes. She can't sing, and even her songwriting is a meandering mess. Just because she used to shack up with Graham Nash doesn't warrant all of the butt-kissing that she receives at the mouths of the music press and hipster d-bag aficionados. Zero stars

Sooooo boring. I wish I liked it more but it's just not that fun.

Dreadful stuff. Fell asleep twice.

That was dull and bothersome to listen to...

Did not care about this, not my vibe

My goodness, what a boring record. I played 3 tracks, tried to skip the boring intro, only to find that it remained so boring. 1/5

Joni Mitchell is one of the greatest artists of all time...and it is also true that this is a truly terrible album. It seems like Joni drank the coolaid of her own success on this album and became a laughable parody of herself. This album is one of those "what were you thinking!?!” albums that came out in the 70's. During that time, many talented artists made terrible decisions in an effort to be clever and take things in a new direction, and instead ended up looking ridiculous. Some how, some way Joni produced an album with no alternate tuning guitar or piano parts and lackluster lyrics. That's ludacris. All I can figure is she fell under the spell of that bizarrely awful bass player. I can't believe I'm saying this about Joni, but this album is a 1. It's just unlistenable.

In Love Actually I used to think Emma Thompson left Alan Rickman because he was having an affair. Now I know it’s because he thought a Joni Mitchell album was a good gift.

This wasn’t horrible. She has a following for a reason. That said, don’t ever put this on again.

It's just hard to stay awake on this one.

Of its time. Of which I have none for this whimsy guff. Only did the one listen through.

🤮 I think that the creator of this listing is a sick, demented little man who sits in a dark room all day long researching horrible albums.

I'm really trying, but Joni Mitchell and her style of music is as far from my alley as it can be. Maybe I can like her music one day, but definitely it's not the time right now. Just a bit too poetic for me.

Severely over rated.

I did not enjoy this. It’s was poetry-ish. Kind of spoken word-y. Not bad maybe, but definitely not my thing.

I have no idea how this album has made it to that list.

Other than 'Big Yellow Taxi', which isn't on this album, I wouldn't ever listen to this hippie shit.

Not for me I’m afraid. A lot of big sad words over minimalistic music. It’s really hard to follow through when the entire album is like that. Plus for Jaco

not for me, the lyrics are disjointed and are hard to follow a story. music is nice, soft acoustic guitar which is calming and reminds me of Forrest Gump for some reason. I had a hard time listening to this album and enjoying it.

the music is terrible and the lyrics are worse

Joni Mitchell is not for me, this is one of the least interesting and just plain boring records I've ever heard. It's also too long, and all of the songs are too long. Can't believe how much this dragged. I have given her the benefit of the doubt on the two previous records of hers I've had on this list, giving both 3/5 stars. This will receive less for sure.

Listened Before? N Unavailable on Spotify, and I don't really like much I've heard by her so I'm not going to track it down. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: none.

Not available on Spotify.

Hippy rubbish. Her singing doesn't even sound like it's following the music. So boring I cried myself to sleep. Oh and put your music back on spotify you dumb bitch.

It's more fantastic Joni Mitchell

I really didn't care for this album at all, and it was a slog to listen to. I almost gave up on it.

Boring

Har aldrig förstått mig på Joni Mitchell. Det här är faktiskt skitdåligt. Tacka vet jag Melanie, Buffy Sainte-Marie och till viss mån Joan Baez.

No disponible en Spotify

Meandering.

God I was not expecting to hate this so much.

It's not on Spotify. So it's in the bin.

Two Joni Mitchell albums in 3 days, ooft. Let's hope the next few albums are a little better than this. Why does her music put me to sleep? Perhaps I am not a woman of a certain age who has the life experience needed to help understand the themes and struggles of an early 30s woman... oh wait that is me. Maybe it's a generational thing, because she certainly doesn't look in her early 30s on the album cover. I truly hope that this is the last album I hear of Joni Mitchell. Best: A Strange Boy Worst: Song For Sharon

Hypoteesini on, että sanat ovat tässä tärkeämpiä kuin musiikki. Mutta jos musiikin kuuntelu tuottaa vaikeuksia, miten keskittyä sanoihin? Artisti on erityisen taitava sabotoimaan tavallisuutta, mikä tuntuu obsessiiviselta. Tosiaan: kuulija ei ole artisti itse.

1 star bc i cant listen to it. im sure its a great album but i cant find it.

Yeah. No. I feel as though I should like it, but I don’t. I feel bad but there you are

I do not like it

I just can't get into Joni. Everything sounds the same & the songs are soooo long.

Joni Mitchel is probably one of the most popular artist I just do not get. Everything about her musical style and lyrics just seems to be rambling and nonmelodic.

Couldn't listen because spotify only has one of the songs available?

Waning on Spotify sadge

God I just find this boring. Something about Joni Mitchell’s way of singing just leaves no trace for me.

I genuinely don’t get why Joni Mitchell is so popular.

zzzzzzz

Not a fan of the songs, the voice or the style.

Can't get into this folkish pop kinda music. Seemed to be one long song with nothing that got me excited to hear. If I had this listen to this live, like she was playing live at a house party, I'd have to pull a Bluto (from Animal House) and smash het guitar to make it stop. At least I thought of a great movie and a great scene when I listened an for that, I'll give a solid 1. Will not listen again.

1 I really don’t get this. While it isn’t as folky as I was afraid it would be, there still isn’t much for me here. I was so bored. I haven’t got much else to say.

Didn't have the chance to listen because the dumb bitch is boycotting Spotify. I'm sure it sucked anyway. Why is Joni Mitchell no longer on Spotify? In a note posted to her official website on Friday, Mitchell wrote, “I've decided to remove all my music from Spotify. Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.” Feb 3, 2022

de la verga

Was not feeling it. There wasn’t 30 seconds throughout this album that I was vibin’.

I ain’t mad at cha

Dreadful hippy bollox

I couldn't listen to this because she's one of those old hippie boomers that left Spotify when Neil Young did, but that's ok because I hate her anyway. 1/5.

I found this interminably boring. I know people love Mitchell for all sorts of reasons, I have no idea what any of those reasons could possibly be. This is not for me, it's too beige.

I think this album/musician is important but I just didn't dig it.
