Reviews (page 12 of 14)

To me this is 2,5star album and half star goes as bonus because of cover art. Simple good photos are just good.

#399 / 1089 Heard before? ✅ Revisit? ❌ The music is basic. His voice is nice for the most part, but feels very winded all the time. I don't give a shit about lyrics, which seems to be at least 90% of this album, music is lending from pop, R'n'B and folk then brushed rock on-top for show. We've seen this with varying production and polish levels over and over again. Trying to break into the mainstream is not something I see as a positive thing, to me it's mostly settling, compromise and "selling out", what ever that means to oneself. But to applaud for doing so seems to me absolutely absurd. This doesn't do much for me and can't see it being anything "of all time". Weak 2/5.

its okay

Really well constructed album with a clear vision, total bard energy. But this being my third Springsteen album, he's usually not my vibe at all and I only see myself coming back to Nebraska.

I dunno, I want to like Springsteen but he is just so basic and boring. Not the worst music but if I was at a friend's house and they were playing it I would ask them to put something else on but not leave if they refused to turn it off. Okay maybe I wouldn't leave but I would definitely lose some respect for that friend, especially with the last two songs on this album. So a very big meh for me.

Don't get the hype. His voice is absolutely dreadful and this just feels pedestrian, predictable and pretentious.

Just not at all my jam.

Only Born to Run. I like his politics but not his music unless I have already heard it.

um fodase completo. não posso falar que é ruim. só chato pra caralho. mas é basicamente isso.

not my rock....

I wouldn't complain if my Dad put the CD in

No me gustó mucho. Siento que Bruce Springsteen es como un cantante al estilo Melendi pero en inglés. CERO CERO CERO never. Mirá que soy de escuchar muchos estilos sin drama, pero ni a palo te encaro un álbum de Bruce entero.

Overrated slop

Uplifting instrumentals. It has some catchy parts but the vocals are so obnoxious. Just awful. The annoying screaming. I just probably dont like his voice.

I have nothing particularly bad to say about this album, but it just didn't interest me at all.

Overall: 3/10 I still hate Bruce Springsteen's music. He has one of the worst singing voices I've ever heard and everything is just way too overproduced. The only reason I haven't rated any one his albums as a 1 or 2 out of 10 is that there's usually one or two songs that make me go "oh wait this one is actually kinda good", and that was Thunder Road for me. Good song that inspired a really good movie. Fav Song: Thunder Road

album rock pop, nulla di che nonostante abbia apprezzato alcune canzoni. ho ascoltato successivamente sotto consiglio del fruscio "nebraska" che mi è piaciuto molto di più

sehr oll, langsam, träge , leidend, not my usual taste but dramatic in the middle- I like it!

Likte ikke bakgrunnsinstrumentan

overrated as fuck

I just don’t get it, never have.

Not my thing his voice is not really it for me

What else was he born to do

o suprassumo do rock para papais estadunidenses. eh só pop rock medíocre. vou dar 2 estrelas pq me irritou pouco, até. o que, pra um album desse mano, é surpreendente.

No conecte

it's not bad but it is just so boring to me. did not expect rock'n'roll songs to just kinda bleed into one another.

No me gustó tanto. Muy gringo. Sonido insípido.

Музыка ни о чем. Не запоминается ни само звучание, ни текста. Но слушать не противно хотя бы

It was fine overall, but I didn't really vibe with both the songwriting and the production. I also HATE the kind of piano playing in this album, so that didn't help. Feels like a relic of the past.

Super overrated. I assume any girls he’s talking about in any song in under 18

Bruce is not my jam. I lump him in a group of bands/musicians that just don’t move me. This album was not awful, but just not for me. At least I listened to the whole thing without too much complaining.

Not for me.

no porfavor odio como canta

Some songs were decent but overall not my taste

its not really my style, but it was fine

TapI liek a lot

Guess I am not a fan of Bruce

Oh, it's him again. Lord, help me Somehow, people love Bruce Springsteen's boring music. While I champion his views on the orange dictator, I just never could get into his music. Unless you're a completionist like me, skip this album, and list to his newest hit, "Streets Of Minneapolis". Favorite Track: "She's The One".

This would probably be cool live, but meh for me

Not a fan. I’ve liked one or two of Bruce Springsteens songs, but this album just didn’t hit.

I know this is probably blasphemy to a lot of people here but I thought this album was just meh. I do like Bruce Springsteen quite a bit, and Born to Run and Thunder Road are decent songs, but the rest of this I didn't care for. (2)

Song structures, melody and lyrical theme were mostly the same. A slightly less camp Meatloaf. Maybe that I'm not working hard for a a boss man I don't like and driving a caddie at night trying to live the American dream is why I probably don't connect with this album.

i mean i get how some people might like it but i just didn't .

My very first exposure to his work, so this was a curious one. I'm not a US citizen, and as a Latina, I always associated his persona with like... the singer the mid father would hear? Front and center, you know? So I was genuinely surprised to hear a pleasing voice. He reminds me of Elvis and Lindsey Buckingham in a such good way, the type of storytelling, maybe. Nothing insane, but pretty good. I like the dynamic. You can tell he enjoyed singing,it's noticeable in the vocal variation on Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out. I can't relate much to the stories, being who I am and where I'm from, but it's so nicely done. Oh, and Jungleland? The guitar? Fucking dope. Loved the production overall,I will hear this one again. Didn't expect to like it this much. Still not my story, but I respect the craft and felt the heart. That guitar solo alone earned a second listen.

I don't get it.

Not a fan

idk man I just don't enjoy listening to Bruce

Niet helemaal mijn ding dit

The album feels as though the stadium and the stage is at the forefront of the direction in which the music takes. If this is the concept and the idea, then it's a winner and ticks off what Bruce was hoping to achieve. However, I found the album difficult to listen to in a personal setting. By track 3, I was bored. Born to Run then brought my attention back and the track after this (She's the one) was okay but again, following this, I grew tired of listening. After perceiving through Meeting Across The River, we end at Jungle Land, which I kind of enjoyed. It did feel like this grandiose finish was destined and predetermined as a concert closer and not being a Springsteen fan, I'd be interested to see how often this track closed his shows. But, it did just feel like it went on too long. All in all, a stadium rock album that would be a spectacle in the setting it was designed for, but listening personally and being one on one with the album did not wet my appetite to dive in to more of Bruces work.

3/10 se me hizo eterno

Por muy el Jefe que sea, este disco está aburrido.

It’s very strange how I react to Bruce. I did not enjoy this one at all. Yes there were some popular songs on here but it just lacked anything interesting

nieźle zagrane country... jednak Bruce trochę przynudza

I was never a fan of Bruce Springsteen's style of Rock and found it mostly boring. Although there's no denying the power of the eponymous massive hit single "Born to Run", this album just doesn't do it for me.

paleolithic music

- I can see why people like ol' Bruce, but he isn't for me. there's a majestic quality to some of the more famous songs, but in the end, there's just not a lot going on under the surface - I associate his music with the trope of "I left home with $6 in my pocket and an old guitar on my back," which feels very American and universal (in some respects) to the idea of this country that we're sold as kids, but it didn't resonate with me in the way it probably did for others

it's objectively very well composed, production is really good, writing is also good but it's not my cup of tea – maybe I'm not in a mood, maybe I'm not ready for it. i saved one song out of 8 ending is beautiful though overall it's okey 2.5 out of 5

Not really my thing, but nice

some classic songs, but the mastering in the 70s is not for me

It's actually really funny that I was recently hating on Bruce Springsteen. I don't know why but his stuff from the 80s really rubs me the wrong way, I never liked them as a kid listening to my dad's favorite radio stations. Born to run though is such an epic song and is undeniably revolutionary in spirit. I'm still not a big fan despite feeling like I should like this, though it would be cool to by the xylophone player in this band.

Not a favorite of mine, though I did enjoy the last track "Jungleland" quite a bit

It’s not terrible but the jangly dad rock felt very samey through the album and nothing really stood out to me as exceptional and scene setting, which I’m sure someone will want to yell at me for saying. Maybe also reminds me too much of Meatloaf. Not sure I had to listen to a whole album.

not for me

So so earnest. Like Meatloaf without the tongue in the cheek. Too much for me.

Was not a fan of this album. Everybody probably thinks Born to Run is the best track, but for my money, I'd take Tenth Avenue Freeze Out over it. Both good songs though.

Tal vez Shes the one o meeting across the river

Rock and roll, pop rock, R&B, folk rock.

Not really my thing

About a month ago, I mentioned in passing to my wife that I haven’t listened to much Bruce Springsteen and that maybe I ought to give him a chance. And here it was! Turns out, I don’t like Bruce Springsteen. He has songs here and there that I enjoy. Born to Run from this album is solid, but I didn’t really care for much of the rest of it. Bruce sounded like a 60+ year old man in each song. I didn’t connect to any of the songs. The guitar and sax were great, though.

Ik had beter verwacht van springsteen het is een beetje saai en zeikerig. Er waren misschien 2 leuke nummers

Tjaah. En oikein tiedä, en saanut hirveästi mitään irti tästä albumista. Alun biisit kuulosti kaikki melko samalta ja saksofonia ylikäytettiin.

A ono, klasična jada Springsteen. Ima i gorih albuma ajde. 2/5, 4/10

I feel lamer having listened to this. How’d he get the nickname Boss? It should’ve been Marbles because that’s what he sounds like he has in his mouth when he sings. I’ve heard two of his albums so far and they’ve both been extremely overrated. I’m giving this a 2 only for Born to Run, the best song on the album.

I've never been a Bruce Springsteen fan and this did nothing to change my mind

Just Bruce being Bruce. If Taylor Swift was a dude in the 70s but wrote good lyrics.

Just watched a movie, did not help.

Carried by a few excellent tracks, but nothing particularly exciting or interesting about this one. Thunder Road, Backstreets and Born to Run are the standouts.

Sometimes it felt like it hurt him to sing at points his voice was really nice and then like so often it was so incredibly raspy, also the messages the songs weren't necessarily my favorite, it kind of felt like something I've heard before, and I realized the album's really old but like still, there's no way there weren't songs exactly like that at the time anyway, yeah.

It's one of those albums where I can only bare a couple of tracks before becoming restless from extreme boredom

I don't really like it. I can't imagine an occasion where I would listen to this album. A bit boring but "Born to run" and "Jungleland" are okay.

Not really the music I tend to listen to, I liked born to run but obviously am familiar with it prior to listening to this album

Ugh ... I really do not like Bruce ... all of his sound the same ... same old Bruce

It’s okay. Not my favorite and I don’t think I would listen to it again on my own. But there was one song that made me think of a coming of age movie which made me like the album more.

It’s definitely catchy and I see why it’s so popular. I can’t give any definitive thoughts right now because I like to listen to an album 3 times before I form my final thoughts. As of right now, the songs sound nice but I haven’t downloaded any just yet.

Not thrilled about this one, lots of trumpet, much 90s. liked the Born to Run song, but not a fave

I am NOT a Bruce fan at all!!!! I have seen him play live half a dozen times, including one of the small shows at the Stone Pony and 2nd row at the Broadway show (in which I meet him that him and got a picture), as I have many friends who a diehard fans. This should really be a ONE musically, but I know first hand how many people foolishly worship him!!

Not my kind of album, but the quantity of instruments used to make the songs was unexpected. The last song was a great closing track. Makes me think of music played in an All-American dive bar.

While I appreciate Bruce Springsteen and how he inspired some of my favorite artists, he's just not my thing. He reminds me of my dad, kind of, but he's not at all. Pretends to be a blue collar guy but in reality seems good daughter to Olympic horse jumping lessons. Also, I feel like he's, not talking or singing, but loudly yelling at me that the American Dream is so great. Um, no, buddy.

I’m not a big fan of this music. I want to not listen to it I’m a bit dissatisfied that this is my first album

Born to Run is class but the rest just felt like b sides to Born to Run

Not my thing

Definitely it's not my thing.

It really just does nothing for me

A few good tracks, but not an album I would come back to in its entirety. I reckon The Boss has better albums, when listened to as they were conceived.

It was kinda fun, but for now, I'm not sure if I'll come back to any of those songs 2.5/5

More ‘70s Springsteen.

Something a dad would turn on and I didn't finish it I just don't like this style of music

I used to love Bruce in the 80s but I don't think this aged well (a la Billy Joel)

Doesn't do it for me. Just makes me feel like I'm wearing leather pants in a smokey, rundown applebees.

For a 39-minute album, it somehow still feels like a slog to get through.

More like Born to Dump

A few decent tunes but its a bit dull and plodding. Not running.

I know lots of people like this, but I found it mediocre at best.

This is relentless holy. Not sure if I wasn’t in the mood but it felt like the album was like yelling at me and I didn’t like that hahaha. Read the room Bruce I’m just sitting in my car. One of the rare times when the title track and biggest single is the best song? Born to Run hits big time. The glockenspiel is NECESSARY and is the hugest instrument on a track like this. Bruce is made for arenas.

No es mi estilo

Springsteen har aldri vært for meg. Har ikke hørt gjennom et helt album før, men fikk ikke noen nye aha-opplevelser. Masete musikk.

It is a good Bowie album but I am not a fan of Mr. Bowie.

Bruce is not for me and I never could understand his appeal. Was it one of those things that you had to be young in the 70s? Thankfully short album. I'll give it something just for cool sax moments (unexpected), and I didn't hate every song (Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out and Jungleland were fine). I'm dreading 4 more albums from him.

I just do not get Bruce Springsteen, I’m sorry

This one has never worked for me. I can get into some Springsteen, but not most of this.

I never really cared for Springsteen’s voice, and this album is no different. Plus it was pretty boring. Not a fan.

Couldn't get into the song because of his voice. Really didn't like it. Tracks were too crowded, his voice was lost behind the instruments. Maybe it's due to the production quality at the time but I didn't find it well adjusted.

Sorry but the Boss is just not for me. Nothing here I really can connect to, even though I do really respect the dude. 4/10

mumbly whiteguy rock. it's fine.

Did I understand any of the lyrics? Absolutely not, but I think that's fine for this album. I feel like it kinda loses its way near the end of it but the songs are enjoyable especially if you just view Bruce's voice as another instrumental element.

Not my style of music.

For whatever reason, I’ve never been able to get into The Boss. Probably because his music feels pretentious and theatery. This shit is Rock for people who read The New Yorker and call movies “films”. 2.5⭐️

Just really not my style. My friends all love Bruce and I was hoping to, too. What Bruce lacks in singing ability he makes up in enthusiasm! I was hoping for some unique instrumentation here and there. What's interesting is that some songs remind me of the Clash albums. The grit and edge are strong.

Other than the title track and "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," just some more meh from the Jersey Jungleland. Bruce looks and sounds like he is part of the Rumble Fish or Outsiders gang and this album would be a decent soundtrack for either film. The two best Boss songs making the album track list pull it up from a potentially dismal rating to 2.21 stars.

Thunder Road has always annoyed me. Didn't know he had that soul! - i.e. "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" "Night" has all the elements of a great song: locomotive bass, catchy chorus and bridges This album sounds like Meatloaf Theatrical in an annoying way, not a good or sexy way. Never need to listen to this album again.

Not a big fan. I do like born to run, but I honestly found myself not enjoying much at all from this album outside of that song, so much so that it hurt my opinion of it some, lol.

i'd prefer run towards a different album from The Boss

According to another reviewer, I am likely a Communist for not giving this album 5 stars, but I am pretty sure that having a difference of opinion is supposed to be not just allowed, but celebrated here in the United States (at least on paper). I loved the song "Born to Run" as a baby child. I still like that song, but this whole album wasn't really my thing. Nebraska resonates with me much more. It's not the worst album I've ever heard, but I wouldn't revisit it. I still contend this is music for middle aged dads.

Working my way through this Springsteen album. Listening for things that I like: 1. It’s pretty cool to hear things that others were influenced by his style. You can tell The Killers are heavily inspired by him. I love The Killers. 2. The music composition is incredible. Tons of awesome layering with piano, organs, electric guitars, and a wailing saxophone. Hell yeah on all that. 3. His lyrics are great and he sings with such emotion. Cons: 1. I can’t understand his lyrics unless I’m reading along. 2. His scratchy voice occasionally turns to the literal sound of a goat. 3. Sometimes his non-melodic ranting style of singing just takes over what is probably one of the best jam bands of all time.

boring

It sounds so generic, every song is the same thing with a slow build up and then a booming drum sound into a loud and explosive rhythm. It genuinely sounds like a cheesy musical with every chord used being the most obvious major chord with no variety. His vocals are kind of annoying as well. I don’t know maybe this is more of an American thing although badlands was miles better than this as it actually had some variety and interesting songs. It kind of sound just like a worse version of meatloaf with the repetitive piano keys and the booming drums to give it that passionate, energetic sound. Favourites: none really other than the last song only because if the admittedly awesome instrumental in the middle with the saxophone, even born to run wasn’t even that great given its popularity. Overall, feels a bit harsh considering the popularity of this album but 4/10.

Huge album for people who like braindead americana

Iconic, but I have not been a big fan of Bruce Springsteen's works.

I couldn’t even finish this album. I completely understand the impact in the following he has, but his music is just not for me.

Very overrated

Ekki slæm en ekki fyrir mig

Bara ... allt í lagi. Ekkert eftirminnilegt nema titillag.

Saved by the title track...sounds like the soundtrack of a cheesy TV soap from the 70's...this piano, I can't stand it !

I don't get the hype.

He knows how to tell a story, and the flow of the record is intriguing. His voice hadn't gone raspy yet and I appreciate all the instruments involved. Overall it just doesn't resonate with me.

I liked some parts but it was all a little too shiny for me. If that makes sense. Almost giving show-tune vibes, which I often like. Some parts were nostalgic but overall not for me.

Not really my style.

I am in an odd quantum state where I like Bruce Springsteen as an artist, but I like hardly any of his songs. The 2nd star is for the title track alone

Too young for this.

I dont understand the appeal of this guy

Chill, suena a musica de tomodachi life

Got a few decent tunes, each song has the ‘epic’ feel to it. Feels a bit samey as the album progresses and Bruce can be a bit shouty.

For meget flødesax.

I’m truly just not a Bruce fan

"Born to Run" was pretty good until the saxophone solo. Otherwise, kind of an uninteresting album.

proof american exceptionalism isnt real

Inte min grej, för Bruce Springsteenigt, det är också historier men jag gillar inte instrumenten tror jag och hans röst så mycket.

keine starken songs außer born to run vielleicht. alles irgendwie sehr ähnlich

Not for me!

Competently played, boring music. I just can't do piano and sax.

Nope, not for me. 2.5?

Not a Bruce Springsteen fan so…

We have Elvis at home. Elvis at home:

BEST SONGS: - She's the One - Meeting Across the River

Bruce Springsteen: Born To Run: I cannot say this was bad, but I really didn't care for it. Very boring imo, and his voice is really not great. Too raspy and not in a good way. The instrumentations aren't bad, some of the bass and piano work is rather solid actually, but the songs are just not really that enjoyable to listen to, if that makes sense. I would say I'm dissapointed but I know I don't like bruce springsteen so its about what I expected. Just feels very bland despite not beint talentless stuff. 5/10

Not a fan of the Boss, but this record is full of hits. Hits that, oddly enough, I don't mind terribly.

I don’t think this ages well. It’s a bit of a groany, mumbly mess with some theatre-esque piano chords and folksy blandery. I get that he’s supposedly an icon and all that but not for me thx.

There is the odd artist where I just refuse to accept the popular view and even the critics seems to love him. Its just dull ramblings of a man that sounds like he is old and smokes 60 a day. I think its the folk meets rock I just dont like (not just Bruce). Artists that too are famed for their story telling and narrative. In the defence of Bruce I am undoubtedly an individual that prioritises sound over narrative. Basically I struggle to intellectually engage with lyrics (which would add context and depth to the music) while also deconstructing all the component parts of the music composition. Anyway tone set. I do question people that clearly love him. Do you really see variation from one song to the next or are you loving the idea of the struggle or whatever he is giving out? No idea as was not listening to the lyrics remember. Least not this time as cant be bothered.

I know I dislike this album so I tried to turn the listen into something productive and work out why. Firstly, the voice isn't great, but then I like many bands where the singing isn't objectively excellent. The music is derivative, but then I like lots of bands that are rehashes on old themes and that is very much the nature of guitar based rock music. I think it comes down to a perceived lack of authenticity, a feeling of being overly commercial, crowd pleasing, and inoffensive to the point of banality. Ultimately I have no emotional connection whatsoever when I listen to his album, but fair enough for those that do.

reminded me of a grungy meatloaf. what meatloaf would sound like if you left it out for a bit.. bc it would get denser from the wall of soudn instead o..f mold:)

I was actually really surprised by how much I did NOT like this. Bruce Springsteen kinda sounds like Jimmy Fallon doing an impression of Bruce Springsteen, like it doesn’t sound like an actual person sounds like that. I don’t think I will purposefully listen to a Springsteen song again. My mom is from New Jersey and she’s gonna be sad to find out I do not like this guy

Bruce Springsteen sounds like if Elvis was trying to sing in East Frisian. Please refer back to my last 2 Bruce Springsteen reviews. The guy sings like he is either constantly drunk or has Cerebral Palsy. Either way, I don't understand the hype behind this guy - every album I've listened to apart from Born In The U.S.A has just been terrible. It's actually unreal how similar this sounds to Bat Out of Hell by Meatloaf. I know they were written around the same time, and I did read that Meatloaf was inspired by BTR. Bat Out of Hell is a 5 star album, this is not. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out was probably the best song on this album. Everything else is just plagued by Bruce Springsteen's mumbling, drunken nonsense. I may as well have copy and pasted my review of Darkness On the Edge of Town, it's pretty much more of the same - except this record is better in every way (thank fuck). And I doubt we can top his genuinely horrifying 9/11 album. Anyways, if The Rising was a 1, and Darkness is a 2; I'd probably give this one a 2.5, but since I can't do that, it gets demoted to a 2. Normally I'd round up, but I can't stand his stupid fucking voice, fuck you Bruce Springsteen. I do really appreciate Bruce Springsteen's innate ability to make a short album feel like an eternity. I managed to write most of my review while listening and I was still bored out of my mind. Cheers mate.

despite it being appropriate for the fourth of july i still could not force myswlf to care

Pretty boring IMO

Album was an era album. Not impressed with it musically.

Some of the album was good yet others OK.

two buce albums in a row is crazy. same thoughts as the other one really

Not my taste

Never quite got the mass appeal of Bruce. I'd rather be listening to Melloncamp, who I think is similar but better.

Piano arpeggios. Overwrought-yet-mumbled singing. Arpeggios. Sax and violence. Arpeggios. This album has it all. Too much, in fact.

Theatrical and overblown. This sounds more like a rock opera than an album and could easily be a Jim Steinman composition.

ganz okay. Etwas langweilig und kaum ein Song der wirklich im ohr bleibt

I felt very similar about this album as I did about “Darkness on the Edge of Town”. Which is that I appreciate the instrumentation and the composition of the music, I can even appreciate that there’s a couple songs on both albums that are MEGA hits, but I just don’t like Bruce’s voice. It does nothing for me and I find it annoying and grating. I really wanted to like this album but I just couldn’t. I’m sure this list will throw more of his music at me so… maybe next time.

no esta mal es bruce haciendo musica sinmas 6/10

The Boss came out of the gate cranked to 11, with blaring sax and furious piano. There is an intense urgency that doesn't let up for the entire album. The final track, "Jungleland" should've been a cathartic release, but by the time it came I was fatigued from all that preceded it. Lyrically, the stories did not do anything for me, and Bruce's voice is, well, not pleasant. I really thought I would enjoy this more than I did. Standout track: Jungleland

It was ok. Kinda cheesy, but in an earnest way. I've never been a big Springsteen fan, and this album didn't change my mind.

this is a little too ............ american for me its grand, easy listening, but I won't be donning the stripes and stars just yet.

too american dream for me. couldn't care less. but it's not the worst

Boring Deluxe

not the biggest fan. 2

Thoroughly convinced I just don't like American singer/songwriters. I dislike his voice, just not my style or preference. Pray for me since I have to review Born in the USA next...Thanks 1001Generator for this amazing back to back pull.

Very interesting

I don't get the love for Bruce Springsteen.

No. I don't want to. I'm not a Springsteen fan. I assosiate him with the sort of people who hate all music post 1992. The "they don't make real music anymore" types. Hopefully I can shake those assosiations when giving it my full attention, but I fear the damage might be done. Definitely won't argue against this being influential, yet I'm allowed to feel apprehensive about it just the same. Going in with extremely low expectations. Thunder Road I'm trying to find something that grips me here, but I'm left with nothing. The piano is very loud. A bit cliche. I like the outro, feels like a dramatic start for the album. Not a fan of this writing style. Not unpleasant, but generally not my thing. Average. 2.5/5 Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Raspy and over the top. Bluesy. I don't like the instrumental much, feels a bit obnoxious and busy. Did not like. 2/5 Night It's so exaggarated and over the top, but lacking any compelling theatrics or drama. A wall of noise. A musicial mush which melds together into background noise. The vocals are really love 'em or hate 'em. I recognize that he's being very purposeful with his style and performance and I could definitely see qualities in there that people could like, but I myself struggle to find anything about them I enjoy. Did not like. 2/5 Backstreets I don't see it. I guess the chorus has some anthemic qualities, and the piano riff is kinda memorable. I just don't like this style. Feels exhausting. An overly dense drain on one's energy. Average. 2.5/5 Born To Run I guess it's iconic in a way, evokes a very specific time and place. Sadly not a time I was a part of. I hate the production, it's too much. Makes me feel like a really cynical person for not liking it. It's polished and thought out, but loses me quickly. Did not like. 2/5 She's the One Unpleasant, boring, cliche. Horrible production, sounds muddled and unclear with one of the worst guitar tones I've ever heard. Runs out of ideas half way through. Difficult to get through. 1/5 Meeting Across the River Meh, failed to keep my attention. I guess the instrumental is alright, and he gives a convincing performance. Don't get much out of the lyrics. Boring. 2/5 Jungleland I'm not American enough for this... At least there's some energy to the track. Decent solo. Get on with it... That sax solo sucked the last bit of hope from my soul. Exhausting. 9 minutes of my life I'll never get back. Strongly dislike. 1.5/5 I put my hands up in the air, and I apologize. Bruce is to many considered a legend, and this album is undoubtably an absolute classic. I hear words such as "cinematic" "ambitious" and "inspired" used to describe it, many reviewers going into flattering detail about how magical they find this album experience to be. And here I am on the sidelines envying them for their enjoyment of it. Makes me feel like a cynical bastard for not finding any enjoyment anywhere on this album. I don't like his singing. His writing style comes of as cliche and uninteresting. The production makes everything sound uniform and crusty. I dislike the energy. The instrumentation lacks variety and sounds oh so dated and lame. And I have no reason to feel this way. There's definitely quality here, but I just don't like it and I can only put it in broad terms as to why which feels a bit reductive. I was left exhausted and bored by this, and am frankly dreading the next Springsteen project I have to hear on this list. To those who enjoyed this album: I'm glad you're mesmerized and immersed, it sounds much more fun than what I just felt. Will try to return to this one day, hopefully it clicks then. For now it's a 2/5 for me.

Solid, but didn't feel like the album had a lot of depth

Singer-songwriter bullshit, boring.

I'm not a big fan of The Boss

Bruce sounds like he could have a mental breakdown at any moment@Born to Run. This whole album seems therapy focused. I feel like I'm too young and innocent to take in the life traumas of this older gentleman.

Too mild

Kannte vorher nur Born in the USA und vielleicht 1-2 andere. Nicht mein Ding

Born to Run is the stand out song here. The rest is not bad or great to me, it's just.... Ok. 4.5/10

Okay! Bruce! Is this our last one? Please.

The Boss has undoubtedly got some great songs but he can be very dreary too. This album is on the dull side

this album is like a fistful of crap

Not a fan of this album. Maybe just not a fan of Bruce Springsteen. Seems like mostly filler songs and I feel it was only successful due to the popular "Born to Run" song.

Most song sound like the same, not too creative, easily to get bored 3.7/10

Rock and roll should not be allowed to use a xylophone. I cannot understand people who make this guys music their personality. I am glad my parents liked better music.

More like Bored To Run. Get it? Ha ha ha. Because this was boring. I put on Warren Zevon after this and it was so much better in every way. The only two songs I liked is She's The One and Meeting Across The River, those two were pretty cool.

Thought I’d like it more … OK but nothing more than that. Not rushing to listen again.

Springsteen just leaves me cold, I'm not keen on his voice and I don't get caught up in the music, it feels flat to me. I know he's got a good rep live and I could imagine enjoying these songs more with some extra energy in them. The only bit that I got some feeling from was the sax in the middle of Jungleland, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out and Meeting Across The River were alright too. I didn't absolutely hate it, so it's a 2

i respect the boss but i would never put him on myself. He's a lot like The West Wing to me – a timewarp to an america that never existed to me/in my experience That said, Born To Run the song is an all-timer. The rest... meh. idk im not a big fan ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't understand the amount of Bruce Springsteen albums on this list. He is definitely not bad, but I don't think he is that good either.

Mumbly and dull. It sounded like Meatloaf and U2 got together to make an album to be played at wedding parties. Didn't do anything for me, 2 stars.

Kinda boring and not really dynamic throughout, not a big fan

It was ok. Not my thing. Had a feel of nostalgia but that’s really all that saved it for me.

When Bruce hits he hits but my god, the songs I don’t like are an instant skip.

guy just sounds like he's trying too hard, and drunk

I would definitely listen to some of these again. Especially "Jungleland" and "Born To Run." The saxophones and guitars together are an insane combo. Good tunes. Its weird with rating systems that are odd numbers, because there's no middle ground so you have to be definitive. So this is a 2, but its really a 2.5. Middle ground.

Unfortunately I feel like the Boss never quite hits for me unless it's one of his big hits. Title track is a 5 star banger. Everything else I would probably turn off.

A bit dull.

Dull. 1 extra point for Born to Run, but even then I still prefer the Frankie Goes to Hollywood version

Music for American blue collar workers, steeped in Americana. Unfortunately it’s all a bit too po faced. Give me Meat Loaf and a bit of cheese any day.

Ziemlich langweiliges Album vom Boss

3/10 - i really hate Bruce Springsteen my god

The interesting thing with 1001albums is that there are artists that are way too represented in the selection, so you can stop bothering about reviews and just copy/paste what you wrote previously. I still don't like this kind of generic, very American pop-rock.

Meh, The Boss is ok.

Not amazing, pretty forgettable

Kind of forgettable tbh didn't do much for me

So aggressively Springsteen, in a good way. That being said, this album is pretty one note. The title track is by far the best song, but other than that, the rest feel like watered down versions of the same thing.

Music for the masses has to appeal to the lowest common denominator, which generally speaking, means it has to be pretty dumb. Outwardly it appears to have a big heart but inside it's callow and insincere. The net result is some corny music. But maybe I'm just a bit of a music snob. Oh well....

Listening to all this list of albums is eye opening. When I started going through these albums I really thought that I probably wasn't bothered by Bruce Springsteen either way, but now I've spent the time to listen to his music properly I know with certainty that I am definitely not bothered by Bruce Springsteen either way.

I'd been reading Nick Hornby's 31 Songs recently, so Thunder Road is an interesting one, personally I still don't like it, (don't get me started about the harmonica), but have listened to it differently since reading that book. Born To Run is fine, but overall I still feel indifferent about Bruce Springsteen. 2.5

It was okey

Alright

This one was something I can appreciate people enjoying but not the most exciting for me. Sound is good but not something I’ll come back to.

I apologize to vaasavi and the vaasavis and Bruce Springsteen and his family for my lack of professionalism. I did not direct my full attention to this album. Unfortunately, I find it far too boring to relisten. Springsteen is one of those artists where Americans are forced to listen to him in many situations, and while he has some really well written songs, listening to full albums can feel like pop-rock torture.

With the exception of the title track, what a surprisingly forgettable album. It all just kind of blends together.

I love dad jokes but apparently I don’t love dad rock. This album feels pretty cheesy to me. I won’t deny “Born to Run” is a great hit, so +1 star for that.

Never did get the Bruce love

honestly, i didnt really like it. i did enjoy tenth avenue freeze out but thats about it. It felt flat and almost boring at times

The Boss? The egotistic fool. "Wall of sound"??? Wall of mush. he occasionally writes a good song (Like born to Run) but then over produces it death. Yea, might sound epic the first time, but after 2 or 3 listens its just a wall of tuneless mush. 6 months to record Born to Run? Bet it sounded better after 6 hours.

I like Bruce Springsteen, but not the best of his discography - expecting more from the next one

Very all American rock, which is not a genre I’m that interested in - appreciated the saxophone in most of the songs and many of them aren’t bad but they are too generic sounding for me, and not weird/wacky/funky/rock-y for me.

Didn't stand out to me but wasn't bad music

I don't like Springsteen - I am not looking forward to this. Halfway through, it's very Springsteen. Like, paint by numbers, exactly what you'd think. It's pretty boring, but it does tend to get the toes tapping on occasion. Don’t like it. Springsteen sucks.

yeah.... i would never listen to this but it isn't one star... I could listen to the songs all the way, but I just didn't like them. One star would be if i couldn't even sit through the whole thing.

For me, this was really boring. I was just waiting for it to be over from the first song. At the very least, I wouldn't mind this being on in the background.

Artiste connu par certains de ses tubes. Mais je n'ai entendu aucun tube dans cet album, et rien qui me donne envie d'y revenir (rock très standard). =>2/5

okaayy, but boring

Thunder Road; Born to Run. All-time classics. The rest felt like standard-bear 70s stadium rock that I could do without.

Bland despite being overproduced. Or maybe bland because it's overproduced.

Just not much for me here.

I don’t think I like Bruce. Everything sounds similar

Marginally more listenable than Born in the USA. Springsteen is one of those separate the art from the artist cases for me. He seems like a genuinely sound person, but I cannot for the life of me bring me to enjoy his music.

I don't want to listen to Bruce Springsteen anymore.

Listened to this yesterday, rather cursory, on a train, with in-ears and masked by the noise of my surroundings that was quite alright. Serviceable. But now on proper headphones, the Meat Loafyness of it all is a bit hard to take. An interesting thing about doing this project is realising some of the particularities of my musical preferences and... the indecipherable Wall of Sound mud of a Hammer As Hard As You Can rock 'n roll piano and the hammond organ in Backstreets? That, for instance: 𝘌𝘸. I really don't know what people are seeing/hearing in this. Do I need to read along with the lyrics? Is there a "Telegraph Road" in here? Musically, it isn't. Compared to the other Springsteen's "Born" (#140), it's in equal amounts better and worse so 2 it is.

Heard this exact same thing a hundred other times here, so nothing stood out whatsoever

Didn't enjoy it. Obviously the title track is alright but I didn't like the rest.

Overrated

Entirely forgettable. The only remarkable thing, maybe, is that this was published in 1975, not 1985.

I've never been able to get into Springsteen - on some tracks I find the wall of sound a bit overwhelming, and on others I can't take the melodramatic lyrics seriously. Like others have said, I understand why people like him but he's not for me.

Used to like Bruce until he went crazy lib

Nja, låten Born to run är ju okej. Annars är det mest trist.

I mean... its springsteen. Not really my bag, but I can see why people love it.

I feel like I *should* like Springsteen but I don't, really. 2.375

Begeistert mich nicht.

Strong voice, well produced. Still don't like it. 2,3.

Incredibly passionate and theatrical music about things that I neither know about nor care to learn.

Not many bangers or hits.

Everyone who’s seen Springsteen says he’s the ultimate showman. I will never find out personally because I don’t like his music. At all.

Gear: Focal Clear (ZMFed) Artwork: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Mix: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Musik: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Wertung: 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️/5 (inkl. +1 für "Born to Run")

I have learned that I enjoy a single Bruce Springsteen song from time to time but an entire album is just too much for me.

Not for me. It's like rock for people who don't like rock. I only gave it a 2 because Born to Run is a great song.

I swear every song here sounds exactly the same. Not a single thing that makes any of them particularly unique or distinctive. All just super patriotic sounding stuff your racist uncle listens to.

Do people actually like this stuff?

ok boomer

I enjoyed this album, but not quite as much as I was hoping given how much I like the song.

Start was just okay with Thunder Road. I appreciate he’s not yelling as much on this one as he did in Born in The USA. It’s overall somewhat enjoyable but not stand out to me. At points cheesy and boring. I did not like Backstreets.

really has a vibe of 70-80s America, but it's not my cup of tea. skip skip rock&roll, mb a bit of rural America vibes too

✅ babby beyonce. those girls sure do love each other

This is my first time listening to Bruce Springsteen... I mean consciously choosing to listen to Bruce rather than hearing it through cultural osmosis. I never realised he was leaning on another person on the cover! Who's elbow and bum is that?! I recognise "Thunder Road" as a title. Was it in that Nick Hornby book? ...Yes, I've just checked. It was the second chapter in "31 Songs," a book about... 31 songs, that I read when I was much younger. Apart from that, I recognise "Born To Run" of course. But that's it. Okay, let's press play! ...Oh. It sounds like Meatloaf.

boring

God I cannot stand Springsteen

Never gotten the appeal of Bruce... This is better than that album The Rising though, as at least I could listen to this one. Still just not for me. Meh

Meh. I don’t get it, it’s think I missed this generation.

Singing sounds forced.

Too slow

Overrated

I don't like Bruce Springsteen. I tried, I really did, but I just don't. 2/5

You know how you have to childproof every part of your house because the baby will try to get into everything without hesitation? And then if you try to set the same baby down in the grass on a nice day that same fearless child will immediately pick his feet up to not touch the grass. In this scenario I am that baby and this album is green green grass. You can listen to all the Garden State bro country you want, but please do it away from me.

2* Great music but he's kind of a beating most of the time

Enjoyable. I can see why people like it. Brings a lot of energy, and the songs follow a cohesive musical style. Not my cup of tea but glad I could listen to it a few times

Brice Springsteen I suspect just isn’t my thing, I can recognize it’s probably a strong album and when it came out it would’ve been a different experience, but today and with my taste it just didn’t work.

nijaki, jeden nieprzeszkadzacz

Eh. I don’t get it. I mean he seems like a great guy. His music doesn’t appeal to me though. A few of his songs are good but the others just kind of blend.
