Reviews (page 11 of 14)
Bit overblown for me - but definitely some good stuff in there - anthemic (which isn't my normal type of music)
Don’t really care for The Boss
3.5
3 stars for born to run
What I expected from a Bruce Springsteen album having only heard singles/the big ones, it's fine, the saxophone is cool.
Horse manure in the air, wheat fields and tractor grease in my hair. This is what freedom feels like. God bless America!
B- Thunder Road 3 Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out 4 Night 3 Backstreets 3 Born to Run 3 She's the One 3 Meeting Across the River 3 Jungleland 3 After the dumpsterfire titled 'Nebraska', I assumed I hated this little d-bag. However, that may have been a one-off, because I greatly enjoyed this. Is this connected to Born In The USA via the word "Born"? Is there a Bornverse? If so, am I living in it?
Seriously, the 70s might have been the worst decade for music. This album has two decent songs and the rest is so lame and basic
I need a Boss translator Can't understand anything he says.
A good album though short, felt a bit samey but then again so does most of his stuff. Fine to have in the background but i'll just put Born to run in a playlist and be done with it.
The good end of music your parents listen to
Noen to run Classic, resten meh
Max Weinberg is a very clean drummer.
I only recognized one song—Born to Run—but the message, the voice, the whole album was a familiar mix of the Ohio Valley of my tweens, firefighters, police, bars, pizza joints, Italian and street festivals, the men who worked at Tidd Plant, and Fourth of July at the Marshall County Fair.
Not brilliant. Not terrible. Pretty average.
Bruce Springsteen, an American classic. His voice and singing style is totally his own. This album felt like jazzy, soft rock with country vocals. While this combination works for song songs like "Born To Run," the country twang over the jazz and ballad songs clashed as if someone was repairing a porcelain dollhouse with a 2x4".
Meh. A lighter three. It's not bad, but I don't really care. It's more varied than I expected, which was nice. I liked the piano, but it kinda made me wanna listen to some piano rock instead. I'm just not really into Bruce Springsteen. My favourite song was Night, I think.
Bruce is great, the band sounds great and the lyrics are good, but I just never got into the whole product.
who knew, that i would actually like quite a lot of this album, mostly for background music but also as actual stand alone songs, to listen to in my normal rotation, some of them just made me wanna get up and leave and go on a road trip adventure, i love music like that.
Not a huge fan of this one, but still decent overall. It felt like more of a showcase for the band (which killed it) than Bruce at times and he seemed to get lost in the mix a lot. His voice is also a little grating at times. Thunder Road, Born to Run, and Jungleland were the major standouts here.
There's no fewer than 5 Springsteen albums on this list, take that and do with it what you will. I missed this one when it was picked for me, so gave it a spin when playing catch up. For albums of all time, it's ok to good, for Springsteen albums, it's pretty run of the mill. Not really any big standout moments. Thunder Road, Born To Run and Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out are pretty good, while Backstreets sounds painful on the vocal chords. Jungleland is a sprawling ballad but overstays it's welcome. 3 stars
This was a good record but just a 3 for me. Thunder Road and Jungleland and Born To Run were all pretty fantastic but the rest of the record didn't leave me with much of an impression. I think this one would grow on me with more listens and that was almost enough to give a 4.
3.2 Sounds like a movie soundtrack the entire time, Bruce is good at like one type of song (Born To Runesque songs) but the rest are just mellower versions of those. Fave songs: Born to Run, Night, Jungleland
It's pretty good. Like, it's a 3.75, but not a 4
Impressions: Liked the jazz-y vibe but almost every track sounds the same which made it a bit dragging. Favorite Tracks: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Meeting Across the River, Jungleland Rating: 3/5
This is a very good album. I like most of the songs. Love a few. I've seen him in concert and loved it. But, it's just not an album that stylistically speaks to me.
Not my favorite Springsteen album.
Never really been a fan before, but enjoyed listening to it.
The character-led storytelling and the instrumentation give this a very cinematic/musical theatre feel. In a way it’s peak Springsteen, in terms of epic, working class anthems about seizing the moment, finding the beauty in the mundane and all that jazz. But for me it doesn’t hit those euphoric highs he’s capable of as often as I’d hoped. The last 3 tracks in particular lose a bit of the momentum that the first 5 build up. I think I preferred DOTEOT, pound for pound. Still, I’ll give it a respectable 3.5 stars.
I'm a little torn. I wanted to like this, hell I did like some of it, but some it was very hard to get through.
Thunder Road - a prom song from a lighthearted coming-of-age movie that doubles as a tween romcom. This is how you imagined high school when you were 11. (3/5) Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - love me the same note being thwacked. we got trolololol'd part way through. exciting! god that bitch be fartin on that sax. (3/5 jazzy) Night - OH SHIT. the opening to my favorite family sitcom! (2/5) Backstreets - (pre-listen: this better be a good 6 minutes)(here it comes) make out with that pearl jam mic Mr. Springsteen. uh uh awh. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. hiding on the backstreets. YEAH. aaawh. awhh. uhhhh. uhhhhn. (ya know? 2/5) Born to Run - just hanging out with the boys :) (3/5) She's the One - same beat as "Jack and Diane" at one point. it's all i could hear. (2/5) Meeting Across the River - this guy is so obsessed with Eddie. going for a walk. (3/5 jazzy) Jungleland - damn a 9 minute outro. peaceful but sad. (3/5) I didn't really go into the lyrics much, but I heard the story throughout. Easy to listen through in the background as well. Overall, I have to say 3/5 cause it's not really my thing. BUT! Because it was easy to just breeze through this without getting bored, that's what gives it the pass.
this album was solid and i can see why it's considered a classic but it didn't make a huge impact on me. born to run (the song) is one i already knew well and really enjoyed, and I'm sure i'd heard thunder road and tenth avenue freeze-out at some point. after two listens though, this album just sounded like the best and worst of billy joel and meatloaf blended together. the sax is cool though favorites: thunder road, born to run, jungleland
It was ok. Couple of hits. Kind of reminded me of Billy Joel with storytelling songs.
Meh. Sorry mom
ganz gut aber iwie nit so memorable?
I can see why old boomers would like it, because they really thought they were doing something.. Elvis clears Born to run was prolly the best song
Typical Bruce, but doesn’t sound so angry. The title track is a classic! Great sound throughout. High 3.
Big, cinematic sound. Not a huge lyrics guy— so the storytelling is kind of lost on me. Enjoyed Thunder Road, Born this Way, and Jungletown.
Sorry but not my thing. It isn’t particularly boring at least. It has its moments though. But the mix is muddy and sounds off, which makes it uncomfortable to sit through for me. Songs can be a bit monotonous sometimes. Maybe it’s the 80a sound? I don’t know. I understand why people like it, I don’t.
Springsteen writing songs to sell out stadiums. Crowd pleasing anthems - but samey across the whole album
pretty good. No song stood out but a good album overall. Annie like it because she grew up listening to Springsteen
🇺🇸
Before I start listening: I generally hate Sprigsteen but haven’t given him an honest fair listen. I will listen and report back. After a few songs: I like it, but sometimes I actually can’t understand what he’s saying because he’s using an absurd voice Overall liked it but didn’t love it
AJ: rock and rollllll, jersey boy
Meh
Expected more, couple of gook numbers but most where meh
Great Opener Has a good voice Long closing song
As I drive down the road in Good Ol' Town, USA, with the sun's golden hour filtering through the dust kicked up behind me, I reflect on the American working class before letting out a raspy growl, “BABY, THIS IS NOT FOR ME!”
I think it makes a BIG difference if you're 'MERICUN or not. I am not, so it's merely good, not great.
I can appreciate why people like Bruce Springsteen, but his honky-tonk Americana doesn't do much for me. It's very similar to the sounds Meat Loaf creates, but I prefer Meat Loaf's voice and theatrics.
brucey baby
It's just fine. Is this what American music sounds like?
If you told me all Bruce Springsteen songs sound the same, I’d agree with you
average 70s rock n roll, nothing much else to be said. Average 3 stars
Liked the big band feel with all the different instruments used. "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" favorite track.
Thunder Road- 3.3/5 Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out- 3/5 Night- 3.7/5 Backstreets- 4/5 Born to Run- 3.6/5 She's the One- 3.9/5 Meeting Across the River- 3.4/5 Jungleland- 2.8/5 Total- 3.5/5
I'm not saying this is bad - I totally get why some people love this. But it's not my thing. It just feels so bombastic all the time.
he's kinda just the employee
I would love to be that like enlightened young Springsteen enjoyer But I was fed a strict diet of britpop and Beatles as a kid and did not have a Springsteen dad to indoctrinate me
Kinda fun pop bops. Nothing to write home about
Thunder Road: Not a huge fan, not a great start to this album. Unlike Bruce's style imo. 3/10. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out: One of the better and more popular tracks. If someone held a gun to my head and asked me my favorite Bruce song I'd probably say this. Unlike a lot of his other work. 8/10. Night: Doesn't fit the vibe. Mid song. 4/10. Backstreets: Better song with better message. Still it's Bruce though. 5/10. Born to Run: I HATE THIS EFFING SONG WITH A BURNING PASSION. Just kidding. It's fine, just way overplayed. 5/10. She's the One: Weird lead in and I don't like it. What the hell is this Bruce? Too loud and too flashy for a song that's almost never heard, especially after the overplayed Born to Run. Take it down a notch. 4/10. Meeting Across the River: Why does this start as a jazz track, I'm so confused. Bruce ffs just pick a genre. After She's the One, which was loud as fuck, this is quiet. Just pick a TEMPO FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. I'm just annoyed by this song, why is Bruce trying to sing a sad jazz-like song. Christ dude just pick something and go with it. I hate this. 3/10. Jungleland: Dude this is like the same thing as Meeting Across the River but instead of jazz it's a piano backing. Oh wait fuck this is good. Damn. He really came in with a chair there. 7/10. Good job Bruce, pretty decent ending track here. Total: 39/80 --> 49/100. Yikes. I mean, might be biased. I'm not a huge fan of Bruce. Like 3 songs in this album are fine. The other 5 are kinda bad. I hate people from New Jersey. That is all.
Enjoyable album but I don't feel like I got much out of it. It seemed on the precipice of telling a story, but unforuntately I failed to resonate with that. The music seems to be selling a feeling or an idea, more than something that is fun to listen to. Perhaps understanding where bruce was coming from with the lyrics would help me enjoy this more in the future.
All time classic but not my thing.
A dear friend of mine is an obsessive Springsteen fan, so it saddens me to o ly give this a 3, but I think the whole idea just doesn't do much for me. Born To Run is a fantastic pop song, Meeting across the river was interesting and foreboding, tenth avenue freeze out has a nice groove...but it almost feels like a clichéd parody of what people imagine Springsteen to be. I understand why people love him - and I think some of his later stuff is incredible - but this just doesn't do much for me.
It's alright. It's just kind of an album. Nothing to write home about.
Good entry from The Boss. I love the depth of sound and variety of instruments used on this, really fleshes out the album. I do enjoy the singer-songwriter vibe on Springsteen's first two albums a bit more than this one, but clearly the shift in sound worked for him. And there's still some all-time classics on this. Fav Tracks: Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Born to Run
2.5/5
once again good but not my thing
Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freezeout, Born to Run, Jungleland 3/5
When it's good, it's very good. When it's bad, it's because of Bruce, not the band, and it's because it's overly derivative and too mushmouthed/wordy.
I liked it, but the album as a whole isn’t great, it just has 3 amazing songs.
I'm not a big Bruce fan. This is a pretty iconic album, with a few OK songs..
Honking saxes, chiming guitars, crashing pianos - and more Meatloaf than I would have thought. I felt like I was on a cracked bitumen roadway in western New Jersey.
Very mediocre.
LISTEN ONE: OKAY BOOMER! I see the appeal, I get it. But this sound isn't for me. Its little melodramatic and lays it on thick with the 'good ol' american boy' shtick. It is just cheesy AFFFFF Meeting across the river is a potential vibe though.. LISTEN TWO: Tenth Avenue freeze out has some super cool jazz elements i missed on the first listen. the piano is killing. I think the lyrics in 'night' speak to why his songwriting doesn't work for me. Those kind of "My life is so shitty and monotonous but im gonna make it work" is lame I can also hardly understand what he is saying. I cant deny the other great sonic elements though, every musician here was in there bag making this. It sounds great. I dig the intensity of 'She's the One' LISTEN 3: Alright a couple hours have passed. Lets see. Im sorry this lyrics are so fucking corny I cant take it. Tenth Avenue freeze out is solid.
If you’re not swept up by the lyrics it kinda falls flat. Maybe just the morning I’m having.
Hey, no obnoxiously gated drums
I really liked Thunder Road and of course the titular song. The songs on this album sound very, very similar to me. 3.5 stars.
I liked Thunder Road but that was about it. The album wasn’t very long but it felt like it was, many of the tracks ran together for me.
Pretty good, probably needs another couple listens before I have a final opinion. 3.5 for now.
Not the biggest Bruce fan and this didn't really convince me
Not my taste but well done
Hadn't realised but spotify already plays me a few from this album in various mixes
i liked the beginning songs and i'd overall rate it a 7/10
Ok and deserves a few tries
Incredible, deep voice complementing sweet country tunes
Good

Springsteen hasn't hooked me. But I like this one.
Surprisingly like Meatloaf
Yes, this album screams 'Murica, baby'! Although I've never been a fanatic of Springsteen, I appreciate what his music represents. My knowledge of his music prior to this is whatever got radio play. The "Born to Run" album has absolutely beautiful music, really great lyrics, and I even appreciate his voice. However, the amalgamation just doesn't work for me. His voice would fit with much harder music. I get that the contrast is part of the storytelling, and I guess that's the rub for me. If the same music and lyrics had another, more mellow voice, I honestly don't think that would work for me either. I don't know, Daryl Hall's voice would probably work perfectly with it. Anyway, the album misses the mark with me. It's really a shame, because the music and lyrics are really special. I wish my brain would accept his voice as harmony with it. Now where this album absolutely shines in Clarence Clemons' sax! His solo in Jungleland is an 11 out of 5. No exaggeration. I got chills listening to that. It is PHENOMENAL!! It's probably the one thing that is keeping me from giving this a 2.
Pretty good album but you’d think he’s sponsored by general motors or something
Decent rock album, not a groundbreaking sound however and a lot of the songs have the same feel to them. Was not a very captivating listen but still enjoyable. Esp. Liked the vocal performance of backstreets together with the piano made it have a grand feel to it. Favourite Track: Backstreets / tenth avenue freeze out
I am pretty critical of artists with multiple albums on the list. Not sure if I get anything out of this I don't get from Nebraska, and multiple albums means other noteworthy ones are lost. Probably could have died without listening to it, but the title track is strong enough to keep this rating up a little.
3.4 - Exhibit B: Why I think Bruce Springsteen is fucking overrated.
Pretty good album, a bit repetitive, but Born To Run is an amazing song.
Gotta respect the energy Springsteen brings to every song
My partner’s all time favourite artist is Bruce, but I’ve never really seen the fuss. I’ve always thought the big singles were decent, but were never something that made me want to listen more. Let’s see if this album changed my mind! Songs I already knew: Born To Run Favourites: Born To Run This album was fine, but I do think that it validated my previous thoughts on Bruce. Nothing really blew me away on this album. It was fine with a couple of ear worms but not really anything more. I found the piano at the beginning of Jungleland eerily similar to Tiny Dancer, and the vocals (especially in She’s The One) eerily similar to Trey Parker parodying rock music. Overall, I didn't dislike the music by any means, but I also doubt I'll be rushing back to hear it again.
Meeting Across The River into Jungeland 👌🏻
An oldie and possibly a goodie. Not my favorite, the Boss has always been a struggle for me to get into. I appreciate his story, rise to fame, and his storytelling in a folk/rock style. Obviously a classic, but just not my style.
I enjoyed it more than I had expected I would.
So this is the album that made Springstein a household name. This guitar tone on Thunder Road is just so fogey. Tenth Avenue Freeze Out is a fun tune. My problem with Bruce's voice on Born To Run is that his diction is terrible! it sounds like his tongue is too big for his mouth. The song is a pretty compelling hit though. The rest is just whatever. Fine Bruce you got a 3 star from me congratulations.
So I accidentally listened to Born in the USA, which I'm going to rate. Obviously can't argue with The Boss. Mainly thought about Boomers and their ironic love of Bruce.
It sounded like Bruce Springsteen... And that's not a criticism. Strangely familiar and comforting.
Bruce Springsteen altijd wel lekker.
Eerste ervaring met The Boss. Vond het prima
pretty banger
It's alright I guess. Bruce is good but this is a bit too piano heavy for me. Seems like he's going for more of an American Elton thing here. I like his dark stuff like Nebraska and Ghost of Tom Joad better
Not bad.
Thunder Road: 3/5 Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out: 3,5/5 Night: 2,5/5 Backstreets: 3,5/5 Born to Run: 3/5 She's the One: 2,5/5 Meeting Across the River: 2,5/5 Jungleland: 3/5 Totaal: 3/5
Pleasant, not groundbreaking
About what I expected. I’m not a Springsteen fan, I think his sound is the same across every song. It’s just one long Saturday night live track
Born to run is a banger but I felt there was a whole lot of the same otherwise.
Yeah, not much of a Springsteen fan. Very mediocre.
It's good. But I just don't understand the hype
3 a lo mucho
Was all that Sax and Piano necessary?
Born to run - great track The rest - a bit boring
Not too much my style, but there were a few songs I'd saved. It really does sound nostalgic, though, and I'm happy to have listened to it.
Much as I disagree with the current version of Springsteen politically, the music from this timeframe was on point. The era was meant to be one of discovery..seeing what is out there.... Guess that means we are all born to run
Ei ongelmaton levy: Brucen musiikki on tällä lähes kauttaaltan ylipaisutettua ja ylimietittyä (vai ali-?). Miksi Thunder Roadissa on 20 eri osaa, joista paras tulee vain kerran? Miksi Nightin koukku tuntuu ilmaantuvan ihan milloin sattuu?
Bruce simply isn't for me. Instrumentals on the album are awesome, but it just doesn't connect for me. Favorite track: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out
I don't really get Bruce Springsteen. Not that I don't like the music, I do, its pretty good but I don't understand why he has this cult like fervor surrounding him. This is an album of above average pop rock (with the standout being the title track) but Springsteen fans seem to think he is the second coming. Which really confuses me. I don't have a huge amount to say about the music apart from it was good but I couldn't really pick out any standout moments. A Very solid 3/5 for me, liked it but probably not going to put it on again any time soon
aucune surprise
This album is pretty good. Some songs are good while others are meh. TBH I expected this album to be more dad-rock than it actually is, which is good. Also, does the last song in albums need to be ridiculously long, like why is Jungleland 9 minutes long? Favorite song: Born to Run Worst song: Jungleland
I'm not a massive Springsteen fan. I know he's a legend and all that but he's never really done it for me. This was a nice enough listen. Born to Run is a cracker of course, but it does go on too long. All of them outstay their welcome really. Cut them down to 3 mins and you're onto something, Brucey.
the title track is a stunner but despite his reputation for sincerity the boss seems forced and fakey on this one
Not really for me but can see how some songs can be enjoyable.
I find it funny that the album is lauded as an everyman down-to-earth rock'n'roll performance, when it's loaded so full of grandeur and production. It's like countrypolitan, but for rock. Anyhow, my pretentious opinions of genres and musical taxonomy aside, this is a powerful album. The band's performances are impeccable and the whole group is operating seamlessly. It's great to hear each person playing off of the other, adding to the energy and flow. Nearly every track has a building swell, especially the central trio of 'Backstreets', into 'Born to Run' into 'She's the One', where it seems the band is about to boil over into musical explosions. And somehow, the recording equipment just barely takes it all in and keeps it together. In the end, Bruce's contributions tie it all together. His lyrics are specific enough to fell real, while open enough for almost anyone to find their place in them. His voice and delivery imbue each track with a genuine depth and range of emotion. You can tell his heart is in everything and that comes through in the durable goodness of this album.
Good album, far from being a masterpiece tho. A lot of the songs are really good, but they occasionally feel bland.
Bruce as he comes
Top 3 Songs: 1 - Born to Run (5) 2 - Thunder Road (1) 3 - Jungleland (8)
I like, but there’s such a thing as too much saxophone (apologies to Kenny G)
A few years ago, before I knew about Dimery’s list or this website, I made my own list of classic albums I’d never listened to. Born to Run was on my list and in fact, was the very first one I listened to. I didn’t use star ratings but it looks like I probably would have given it a 3. After hearing it again today, 3 is about right.
masterpiece
Good but not the best
You were born. We get it, Bruce. Jeez. Everyone was born, stop banging on about it. Wanker.
3.5 solid American blues-folk-rock. I'm someone asked what New Jersey sounds like, I'd put on Springsteen.
I've always been "take it or leave it" with Bruce. I love his song writing, and the passion in his singing (even if his voice isn't worth shite). It turns out that most of the songs by Bruce that I enjoy the most are the ones that don't get radio play. And if it wasn't for the piano player, these songs would fall apart. However, this album kept my interest more than I thought that it would.
This is an album that should mean so much to me as a red-blooded American, but doesn't There is a track or two that is excellent.. Okay, Born to Run is excellent. The rest is just okay. If there isn't a freight train runnin through the middle of my bed, it just isn't Bruce enough for me. Just okay.
It seems I gave "Nebraska" a 3-star review 340 albums ago, though the impression I took away from it was that it was too slow and sad and depressing. I was hoping that "Born To Run" would be more energetic, more of the vibrant Bruce I've heard bounces around the stage even into his 70s. On that note, I got what I wanted. It is definitely more energetic and vibrant. And yet I still didn't enjoy it much more than "Nebraska." The title track is absolutely the stand out, but it stands too far above the rest. Nothing quite captures what "Born To Run" does. A 5-star song squandered on an album that doesn't do much else for me.
He’s The Boss, but not a boss for me. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out and Born To Run are well recognized hits, which have their time and place for me (generally at a bar which I don’t go to very often). I don’t like Meeting Across The River. I understand why people like this, but it’s not for me.
Although the album begins slow and underwhelming, the rest of it is quite decent.
Never did like Bruce (still don't), but I'll grade on a curve because he's at least saying something and backing up the working class.
It was pretty good, nice background music for the gym. Could've been better, but nice for what it was. 3.5/5
I just can't get past the voice. There is good music underneath just hard to focus on anything but the voice.
Weird vocals that were hard to understand. Music itself was okay—I feel like people resonate more with the lyrics than anything but I couldn’t understand them. Only giving it three stars because of how iconic it is.
Not too bad as far as Bruce Springsteen goes
Hmm, yllättäen aika selvästi heikompi kuin Darkness on the Edge of Town. Mutta tosi hyvä kyllä. 3,5/5.
I get why people like The Boss, and I really like a few of his songs ("Streets of Philadelphia") but I don't understand the absolute obsession some people have for his music. This album is ... fine. But not for me.
Baby I was born to run! Classic album from the Boss.
Annoyingly ok
Decent, if the rest of the album was half as good as Born to Run, it would be deserving of its status as a classic 👍🏾
Album of two halves. Before born to run it’s ok (3). After it kicks up a notch (4) If I could give it 3.5 I would but I can’t
American wid-west road-bar music is how I’d describe it. Honky tonk pianos, accompanied by brass and guitar with a gravelly voice singing about sitting’ easy. I know OF Bruce Springsteen, obviously have heard a few songs, but have never sat and listened. It’s alright. I can see where people like Cher and Meatloaf have been influenced, but I’m not a fan of either of those two really - and this didn’t really sit with me that much either. What I found - these sounds are orchestral - I.e, there’s a lot going on, but there isn’t a typical verse/chorus structure, so it’s easy to miss the hook. I found the songs passed me by without me being able to really remember what the tune was.
didnt listen but was not bad
A very good story teller and strong vocalist with some moments of brilliant musical moments. An enjoyable listen but definitely not a repeat. Only one song left me with any thought more positive than that was decent and that was the 9+ minute one. I get why it is revered but it isn't my cup of tea
+++
I was waiting expectantly for this one, as someone who wasn't very familiar with Bruce Springsteen's work beyond his hits. I appreciated that it had its own sound for the 70s, with piano and saxophone appearing prominently (and, I think, influencing music that came afterwards). I have always been disappointed at not being able to understand Springsteen's lyrics. I'm told they're poignant, but I can't understand most of what he sings. I really think that "Born to Run" is a great song. I did appreciate the rest of the album, and I don't deny the artistry, but I just don't love it.
Better than I thought it would be.
First track is unlistenable. Peaks at Born to Run and then a steep decline. This meandering Americana doesn’t do it for me. Sorry Bruce, still wanna see you live tho.
Ha, Born To Run on 4th July. Nice work 1001 gang. Never been a Boss fan so I think this might actually be the first time I've listened through. More Meatloafy histrionics than I'd expected. The whole thing is comfortingly familiar and unchallenging. Played it through a few times, don't think I'll be returning in a hurry.
Never been much of a Bruce fan. Nothing really jumps off the page about his singing, writing or playing that make his non hits enjoyable. It's fine, don't get me wrong. In my opinion it's all just average and the sum of all those things is just average. But that's just me.
Muy interesante con conaciones como "Thunder Road", "Born to run" o "She's the one".
3/5 good but not enough
Some great songs, some (for me) filler. I prefer his earlier albums.
The eternal set-closer "Born to Run" is a stone cold classic. The rest of the album continues in much the same vein but not quite so memorably. Born in the USA is a better album and more varied.
BROOOOOOOOCE
Pop americano muito bem produzido. Só não me empolga.
Still waiting for one of the albums of his that I enjoy, this was alright but not my style
This one of the big ones from Bruce, right? The title track is one of his all-time classics, that much I know for sure. There's a few other ones I loved on here. I'm a fan of Bruce in general, even if I'm not always a fan in specific. I love his place in rock history, and I respect what he does, even if it's not the most flashy or the best writing or anything like that. Just some classic Americana rock bangers, he's the guy for that. Favorite tracks: Born to Run, Thunder Road, Jungleland. Album art: I've seen this one a ton, and I sometimes would get it confused with other artists. I checked to see if I have this on vinyl, and I don't, but that's how familiar it is to me. Nothing crazy, just a portrait type shot in black and white, but the all-white background for this makes it seem very fashionable. 3.5/5
Born to Run the stand out song, not that fussed on the rest
I played this 4 times really wanting it to click but apart from the title track which i'd always liked the rest just doesn't reach me emotionally. I know it would really irritate any fans but it just reminds me of Bat out of Hell which was around the same time and I think that really has the depth this lacks. The music is well produced and slick but it seems.......well bland. I can't believe I've said that. Maybe just one more listen? Surely I'mm missing something somewhere.......
Aburridito
"The Boss" just doesn't resonate with me. The hits are ok. Some great saxophone saves it a bit. I get strong boomer vibes.
Ok, number 2 of 5 for me and as much as I like the song Born To Run the rest of the album doesn't quite reach that crescendo. Other fave: Meeting Across the River
Solid, and I like the piano in this album - but Bruce isn't for me
It is Bruce Springsteen. Don't know.
You know when a singer is super famous but you only know 1 song off the album - yeah there’s a teason
4 for the album, minus 1 for the sax. Seriously, who thought it was a good idea to play that solo in the middle of the title track?
This is my fourth Springsteen album through the project, and it didn't really grab me. Both "Nebraska" and "Born in the USA" were more engaging. Fave track - "Meeting Across the River", maybe, for that noir cinematic saxophone...
Standard Bruce Springsteen in my opinion. Always a couple of good tracks, some not, the rest just average.
he's good, we know, I don't like musical arrangements
Música de tio, é bom. Sinto faltar algo.
3.5/5. Not nostalgic for me, but could see how people would give this a 5.
klasse mand
Springsteen-rock, dramatisk, fortællende
Just not a fan of Bruce. Voice is dull, lyrics are meh. I don't relate.
I like some Bruce Springsteen from time to time, but could never get into this one. Plus I couldn't find my tape, so I'm not happy.
Why would you care what I have to say about this album. The only reason I do this is to stroke my own ego. In my feeble imagination, I guess I'm thinking that I'm some kind of rock critic whose opinion matters to you on what you should or should not listen to. Either you like the albums featured here or you don't. My opinion means nothing. Besides I like "Darkness On The Edge Of Town" better
Kinda meh, really like jingely. He's got a rusty voice with nails and velvet. I liked the guitar effects on born to run. The others man, nah. I won't listen to them again. It was like the challenges of the common man in a weird musical. Just not my thang know what I mean. Anyway imma go see Batman today.
Overall alright
It’s good, but the track Jungleland wow a masterpiece. Everything else is ok.
you can run, you'll just die tired
Classic rock, iconic voice. Born to Run is of course a belter, but the album as a whole? Not really my bag
you can run, you'll just die tired
Classic Americana rock album, not my personal taste but still enjoyed.
The instrumentation was great on every song. The vocals aren't always the most exciting but all in all I still enjoyed it.
It's an album that I knew I had to listen to at some point. It's well made, it's good songs, I just don't find myself tapping my foot to the entire thing.
I liked the writing on Nebraska better. His vocal style is something I’ve heard parodied quite a bit, and much of this sounds like a parody of itself.
I've always been a bit confused as to why Americans hold Bruce Springsteen in such high regard. I don't hear anything particularly innovative, different, or special
This is exactly the kind of album where I can 100% appreciate its greatness without it being my style of music, really. A lot of inspirational-sounding songs that are cheesy but not in a bad way. Great backup instrumentalists, there’s some technical proficiency that I appreciate. Also this guy enjoys the saxophone a lot haha.
Pretty solid. 3.5/5
It’s ok, but not half as special as Born in the USA.
Still not a huge Bruce Springsteen fan. I recognized several of the songs. It is just an alright album.
ja gewoon rustig fan van jungleland
I am not a fan of Bruce Springsteen, and I don't understand the appeal. There are some moments of good songwriting on here, but the arrangements are so incredibly hokey. This album is drenched with just the cheesiest saxophone... in fact, I'd argue that this album is probably responsible for the saturation of cheesy sax that would happen in the 80s. This is a huge step up from the Rod Stewart albums this dumb list has generated for me, but it's the same genre of bad.
Some special songs yet a couple that need to grow on me.
ok boomer
Ei tarjonnut ihmeitä. Oikeastaan ko. herralta joku best of saattaisi olla sellainen jonka voisin itse valita soimaan. Muuten herran levyt on sellaisia, että voin tarvittaessa kuunnella seurassa.
Born to run herättää aina tunteita, kun on vielä FC Mojon anthemeita rockfutiksessa, mut muilta osin levy jäi vähän pliisuks. Kuitenkin laatua löytyy
Dann fang ich heute an 3.12.21 mal an… moool horche… War schon mal ok
The most redeeming thing about Bruce is how easy he made it for people to do funny impressions of him. While I made it through this one easier than the last, my guy just isn’t anything more than okay to me
Better than Born in the USA but goddamn Bruce is so boring and literally every one of his songs is in the same key with the same tempo and it’s just the same
Bruce is Bruce
I don't get the Springsteen love. This wasn't very good.
Not too bad. I’ve heard his hits but never listened to this album before
Gritty blue collar rock with saxes and a 50s diner vibe.
Decent. Didn’t dislike any songs.
Decent enough, wouldnt listen to again, talking heads psycho killer came on after and its better than the entire album
Was ok. I like Born to Run because I'd heard it before.
More of a ballad than I realized. The album is and is not the sound I expect out of Bruce Springsteen. It was an interesting listen, but don't know that I would seek it out again. 3/5 (Enjoyable, but no second listen for me)
It's good. Titular track is better than others but not by a lot. Overall very consistent in quality.
Give it 3 cos its Springsteen....not a big fan...formulaic
I don't really like Bruce Springsteen. I don't really like this album.
Nothing against Springsteen, but I can never get into him in any capacity. I like the American myth subject matter, but it all sounds too produced and loses any way for me to relate to it. I see why others like it, but for me it's just there.
I haven’t given this a listen in a while and this was a good opportunity to do so. Love side A, side B kinda drags for me. Honestly I don’t like this as much as Darkness on the Edge of Town.
-I mean, "Born To Run" was cool...
Much better than 'USA' - this is a big, bold album bursting with life. While the tracks aren't mindblowing (save for the absolute screamer of a title track), they bubble with a life and individuality that makes the LP a fun listen.
It was all right, no highlights, but also no particular tracks I disliked
It was nice enough, but there were no real stand-out songs. Best song for me was probably Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.
Born to Run single has a bursting presence, the rest I can take or leave.
Some killer but quite a lot of filler.
Classic. Baby I was born to rruuuuun!
I’m definitely more a fan of the 80s Springsteen sound but this was a solid listen. “Born To Run” is a classic and I enjoyed discovering “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” as well.
I like the song Born To Run (partially just because it's the only one I kinda knew already), but I'm honestly not a huge fan of Springsteen's voice for some reason. I also like Meeting Across the River.
Quite enjoyable
Not the worst album but I will not listen to again. Tenth Avenue is a good song.
Not too bad
Production: 11/20 Songwriting: 13/20 Innovation: 8/20 Bangers: 10/20 Emotional response: 12/20 =54 Not bad Bruce. Everyone should watch the film Thunder Road.
Listenable but I am not a Springsteen fan and this hasn’t changed my opinion. ***
Not my thing generally...Liked Backstreets. Cool piano. Brass in the middle of Jungleland is awesome.
false
Alright
This was fun! The lyrics were way less repetitive and the rhythm was more solid throughout.
Albumik ktory ma jeden z najlepszych opening songow jakie slyszalem, czyli thunder road i jego slynne zakonczenie its a town full of losers and im pulling out of here to win, byl to pierwszy albumik ktory osiagnal sukces komercjalny w dorobku Springsteena, wiec otwarcie takim trakiem to prawdziwy chad move, tak jak caly albumik jest takim chad movem i skokiem na stworzenie czegos co bedzie sie podobac sluchaczowi i sie udalo w 38 minutach materialu zlozyc 8 kawalkow, ktore mocno trzymaly listy przebojowe, mimo ze z nazwy jest to solowy material Springsteena, to jak w poprzednich i tez nastenych albumikach towarzyszyla mu e street band, czyli jego instrumentalne zaplecze, bo samemu szarpie on tylko za gitarki, a poza nimi to murzynska saksa Pana Clemonsa jest jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych elementow albumiku, sluchajac albumiku czuc nie tylko zgranie muzykalne, ale dopracowanie pod wzgledem technicznym plyty, tematycznie albumik porusza motywy najlepiej sprzedajne, czyli milosci romanse i szybkie samochody, caly ten jazz, no i jest 9 minutowy kawalek jungleland, czyli opowiesci z miasta ludzi biednych i mniej biednych jak sobie zyja i czemu im dobrze biednie, samo zycie, song dluzszy niz standardowe radiowe grania, wiec fajne solowki gitarnikowe i wstawki klawiszowe sie pojawiaja, na plejaka dorzucam born to run, bo thunder roada juz mialem
I mean.. I get it? I liked each song, but as an entire project it was very exhausting to listen to. Was about to be a 2, but Meeting Across the River alone bumped it up a notch for me.
Something very recognizable, but anything special. I don't know if this album has something special for their time, but nowadays it's just fine.
Okaish bruce, nicht mein Ding
Kinda sounded like tiny dancer x8. Liked it though.
Definitely a classic album, but not really my thing
I get why people like it, but not my jam
Such a pump up album, gets you in the mood to go out and have a beer.
Not as consistently good as The Rising, although it has perhaps my favorite Springsteen song, Born to Run.
meh
Ja nice maar 🤷🏽♂️
No nyt on sellaista Brucea jota odotin jo aiemmalla levyllä.
/lillebror
It was alright. I prefer Bruce’s “Born in the USA” album myself.
Compared to the last Bruce Springsteen album I listened to, this one was much less notable. I like the title track, but other than that the songs just sort of faded into the background. Also, boy that last song drags on for a while 3/5
No surprises here. Wasn’t bad, but I have a little fatigue in regards to Springsteen.
my hot take is that i find bruce kind of boring.
Really not a fan of this one. It sounds like it was recorded in a big, echoey, open room. The vocals and instruments are all overblown (especially the piano and the saxophone). Most of the songs were too 60s diner "rock n roll" for my taste. I like the song born to run (except that "ooh-oh oh, oh, oh-oh-oh; oh-oh-oh-oh-ohh" part) and Bruce's politics but not much else here. 1.5/5 -> 2/5
Mumble mumble a very solid 2.
Halfway through the album and most of the songs sound the same. His vocals don’t do it for me so i’m not focusing on the lyrics much or at all. The guitar sounds pretty good in some songs. “She’s the one” is a cute song to think about a special someone. The Jazz sounding bit at the very end is possibly the best thing out of this incredibly short album (didn’t feel that short if anything it was a drag).
Tää on vähän niinku Meat Loafin Bat out of Hell, mut paljon hajuttomampi ja mauttomampi.
I'm not a fan of Bruce's jazzy albums. Though a wonderful songwriter I feel like he doesn't have anything interesting to do with all those instruments.
i’m not american enough for this album
Not a huge Springsteen fan, I love Nebraska and he definitely has some killer tunes, but for me this had about as many pits as hits. Meh.
i feel like people will LOVE this. i feel like my dad would devour this idk but its really NOT my cup of tea
Ehhhhh
album #75 a lot of the tracks are quite indistinguishable from each other. i've just had enough of his big yelling WOAH-OH-OH-OHs, you know? ꩜ average track rating: 2.5/5 ꩜ favourite track(s): born to run ꩜ least favourite track(s): she's the one ꩜ album rating: ★★⯪☆☆ ꩜ number of albums left to review: 1,014 ꩜ number of albums from the list that i agree with being on the list: 36 ꩜ albums from the list that I would consider on my list: 14 ꩜ albums from the list I won't include on my list: 61
Un peu boring j'ai trouvé
Don’t remember it
This is good music I'm sure, but I have a strong and possibly unreasonable dislike for New Jersey. The combination of piano and saxophone and the boss's wail were a little bit too much for me. I think I will pass.
No real bangers, a lot of repetition, not my favourite Bruce.
Not a Springsteen fan tbh
Just really not my style
I don't think I like this album. I knew Bruce Springsteen by name, and I thought I knew what his music sounded like. But it sure wasn't what's in this album.
This is Roy Wood’s Wizzard, bereft of any wit, humour and art. Some good songs that should be sung by someone else.
Not hitting quite as hard as was promised. Title track best track
Rate: 5/10.
