Reviews (page 10 of 14)

As soon as I heard this I thought “it’s like a wall of sound”. Sure enough, it turns out Springsteen was going for that sound, wanted to mimic Phil Spector. It’s too much for me. The 2nd half of the album was more appealing to me.

Still not a big Springsteen fan, but this is so much better than Born in the USA

Every song sounded like it was sung by a different person. 5/10

Again, Bruce Springsteen is mid, but it's a fine album.

- auch das hat mir besser gefallen, als gedacht (wie bei Born in the USA auch schon) - irgendwie klicken da einige Lieder einfach sehr, da instrumental einige coole Dinge dabei sind. Kanns gar nicht wirklich erklären

great fun but a lot of the tracks were forgettable

Decent album, not in a rush to listen to it again. Born To Run was probably the standout track sadly.

Bruce Springsteen seems like a cool guy, but I’ve never been able to get into his music. I find it somehow … not very musical. Bonus star for looking incredible in jeans and a white tee. An inspiration to a lot of men.

I’ve always been a bit of a Springsteen agnostic. And by that I mean that I believe he’s great, but have never been able to quite get there. There are moments of brilliance within his discography, but it doesn’t do much for me ultimately. Mostly glad he inspired many of my favourite artists.

This was a lot more upbeat than I learned to know of Springsteen. It leaned more towards Billy Joel sounding to me. I wasn’t taken by any of the songs. It’s just a so-so album by someone who was given the nickname “The Boss” for unknown reasons to me now.

This album is….fine. For the life of me I can’t figure out why it’s on this list, there doesn’t seem to be anything remarkable or innovative about it at all.

Nothing wrong with it but I think I may be a greatest hits kind of fan, too many tracks that I find just okay.

How did I never notice how Bruce sounds like he's mumbling through parts of Born To Run until now? Guess maybe I never listened to it on a good enough system to really hear it. And that guitar 3 minutes into Jungleland sure sounds like it belongs in a song from The Knack. The aforementioned song also feels like the most Bruce song on the album because even if you don't listen to the lyrics, the way the music changes through its 9 minutes it just comes across like he's telling you a story.

Not a fan of this style of rock (if that’s even the right genre). Can’t really put a finger on why. Title track is good, as is the music on Jungleland, but overall find it slightly cringe.

I do my best to listen to the albums with fresh ears and not judge based on passed biases. The Boss is not up my alley at all and i've pinpointed why, lots of piano hammering and repetitive choruses. That being said, i did really enjoy the fluid, dynamic songwriting for the most part, but i probably won't spin this again i'm with steve and he wants to listen to the Boss.

Bruce Springsteen the way you expect him to be. But I felt a bit suffocated by this album

It seems, from reading other reviews, that Born To Run is an album you either connect with or not, regardless of how you feel about Springsteen as a person. I'm in the camp that appreciates Bruce Springsteen more for his personality than his music. Failure to connect. I'm not his audience.

The start of commercial springsteen, good, but not the best

I like Bruce. I don’t love Bruce. This is my favorite of his albums, so for me, it was worth the listen. Lots of singles on this one, so I was familiar with most of em. I think Thunderroad, Backstreets and Jungleland are my favs.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🗽 half these songs sound the same but they’re good songs don’t really like his slower ballad-y songs except “jungleland”, although that song feels a bit too long for what it is the album being short really helps

This album of his at least so far isnt really my style. I can appreciate it though and it is good music. Best song on the album is Backstreets or Born to Run.

Only 8 songs but it took them 1.5 years to record. Perfectionism.

Love it :3333

This album is all about “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out” for me. That song is a banger. The rest is ok, but fits strongly into the place I always find Springsteen sitting - trying to say too much over music that wants to party or talking emphatically about people and places I’ve never heard of. I always feel like I’m missing something when I listen to Springsteen. I feel like I’m joining a conversation mid stream. Did everyone go to school with him but me?

Title track goes hard Edit Apr 2 2026: 4 --> 3

truly devastated to not put this higher. It has so much potential but it sounds terrible in my AirPods :( Truly the lyrics, melodies, cool guitar, and spirit/verve in the music is all there, and I’m sure it is incredible live, but on my cruddy plastic 200 dollar listening devices it sounds like shit. 26 year old Brucey sounds like he has severe respiratory issues and the production is just grating. I am so sorry

Springsteen is one singer I could never get into. I can't think of anything specifically bad about it, just sort of washes over you. But I wouldn't begrudge his inclusion here 3.5*

A couple of classic tracks raise this punchy album up to be one of his best pieces of work

Wasn't expecting this much sax! But The Boss growling down the mic gets old after a while... Favourite track: 'Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out' Added to playlist: 'Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out' A solid three stars

Everything you think a Bruce Springsteen album will be. You can hear how he has influenced many people, especially bands from his area.

It was alright, pleasant, just not my cup of tea, I'm more into his Born in the USA era. If I had nore time it might have grown on me though.

solid album and loved the touches of brass even if there was no specific standout

I've tried really hard to get into Springsteen. I just can't. It's too traditional, it's not loose enough, and saxophone doesn't belong in rock music.

Not a big fan but I tolerate his music. Also, none of my favorites by him were on this album. An OK album for me.

I have never been a big fan of Bruce. He's ok and this album is ok. It's not my go-to. Although "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" is probably my favorite song by him.

Most of this album is fine. Tenth Avenue— okay here’s Bruce Also like She’s the One and Jungleland. Side note: i appreciate the piano. So much good music doesn’t have it and you don’t really notice until you hear something with it.

I think the problem I have with early Bruce Springsteen is his vocal style. He was 25 when he recorded this album but he sounds more like a middle aged dad reminiscing about being a young tearaway than someone actually strapping themselves into a suicide machine. That’s not to say this isn’t a good album, but I much prefer the quieter and more reflective tracks like Meeting Across the River than the bombastic numbers.

good album everything sounds super solid but not my personal taste

The performances and arrangements are top-notch. His voice is not my favorite and the style doesn't do much for me. I'll go 3 stars because that band is really, really good.

If the sax solo in Jungleland could be another 45 minutes please that would be great!

Bruuuuuceeeee Spriiiinnnngggssssttteeeeeeeen! There is a lot of Xylophone in the first few songs and I like it. Maybe it was a piano, I still enjoy it. There is a nice mix of instruments in this album, I believe I heard the trumpet 🎺. I think I will rate this on a 3.5 out of 5

I continue my inability to see why people lose their minds over Bruce. The instrumentation is creative and novel here but everything else is just kinda meh.

It was nice

haven't been able to really get bruce springsteen. probably the best album I've had from him (this is the 4th!). Just checked and he has 5 on here so I'm almost done

Easy listening

Heard before. Im not the biggest fan of Bruce, but this might be his best? Not sure.

Can see the influence on The Killers and Sam Fender in a lot of these songs. Unfortunately I heard those first so this doesn't have the same impact on me. Fav tracks: Night, Backstreets

3.5 pretty decent. Nothing bad. Fav songs: born to run and meeting across the river

Just cannot get into the Boss. 3/5

Have heard this a million times, so I have no revelations upon this listening. However…it did remind me about how important the storytelling voice is and how it makes up for a less than perfect singing voice.

Just never been able to get into this geezer. It's not bad, but it's not to my taste. It's alright.

I just don't get the hype. Maybe if I approached this album never having heard of The Boss I might have liked it more but it's a bit late for that isn't it?

Just Born to Run the song, really

Obviously had heard Thunder Road and Born to Run before but the rest of the album felt like the same to me and I didn't find any new favorites. Not sure I got much out of it.

It's the king of dad rock, the boss himself Mr. Springsteen. Admittedly I've never really been that into Springsteen's stuff but I'm hoping that after relistening to his albums I will begin to appreciate the guy. Especially since this album because to my understanding this is generally considered his masterpiece. So that didn't happen. I think I enjoyed it a little more this time but i definitely didn't blow me away or anything. I enjoyed the singles though. Favorite track: Thunder Road 3.5/5

Full of complex layers and interesting hooks

I’m sure Springsteen fans love it. I thought it was okay.

Decent.

Not a big fan of the boss, it was ok

Country

Not much variety on this album. Springsteen has a good voice but a limited range, both vocal and musical, at least on this album. I was never a fan so I don’t know his other albums. But at least it IS music - unlike some of the albums on this list - so hmmm.. 3

Solid album. Nothing that struck me though.

Svängigt, trevligt och lättlyssnat, men inget man saknar när man stängt av.

Not all bad 5.5/10

Good backrgound music, but nothing really exceptional.

By 1975 classic rock was already being eclipsed in the charts by Elton John and a plethora of excellent funk acts. In this environment Springsteen entered the scene sounding like he has lung cancer every time he tries to belt out a verse. Columbia was paying attention to trends though and the album is saved by a magpie approach to production, with the E Street Band stretching across multiple genres and styles while staying faithful to their rock aspirations. Thunder Road is a Twangy country rock that probably sounded a lot fresher 50 years ago. Tenth Avenue Freeze Out is a competent motown tribute. Night is a bit more interesting as an up tempo love song about knocking off work. Backstreets is an unintended gay masterpiece about making out with a non binary person. The title track has a legitimately spine tingling chorus although by this point we're rehashing lyrical themes. She's The One takes some sixties pop riffs in an interesting direction. Meeting Across the River is the best track from a structural and vocal standpoint, starting with a great little sax solo and prefacing a tragic meeting. Jungleland ends the album with a pretty epic sax solo. While there's a lot of competent music on here the phill spector style of throwing pianos and strings at everything doesn't really work with the lyrics and I wonder what this album would have sounded like if they'd taken the 'less is more' approach more common in the second half of the decade.

Thunder Road is a great first track and Born to Run is incredible but the rest of the album spends more time meandering versus showcasing. The style and influence of Springsteen is undeniable, but for how full some of the songs feel like they're trying to sound it does come off a bit more distant than I'd have thought. I bet hearing this album live in the 70s was unreal. It speaks to a version of the US that doesn't exist anymore but has a lot of similarities to today; the album has charm and parts of it are timeless.

Too sanitized sounding for myself. Some sanitized Blues in here. I'm not sure why, but except for the odd famous single his music has never done much for me. I find this album feeling repetitive. Born to Run is a very good song.

I just don’t jive with Springsteen. I recognize this is good, but just not my thing.

Not the biggest bruce fan and dont get much along with his music but cant deny that he is america music wise and that he has bangers

Det är Bruce. Det är precis vad man förväntar sig, och det är inte ens något speciellt?

good album, fun listen

It's a nice album. Born to run is a classic

It was fun but i would like more USA feel.

Zaskakująco fun, corny af.

Ah sei lá...não me pegou não, já tinha ouvido....solta o Bruuuceee - Scott Michael G.

Sorry to all the dad's but it's 3.5

I can't get in to Springsteen. I've tried over and over. Just don't get it.

It’s THEBOSS. Undeniable hits, but a lot that leaves me cold in between.

Very coming-of-age. Not sure I like it. Might be too American for me. Meeting Across the River intro sounds so much like BOTW Music.

Didn’t like it

“Born to Run” became an FM rock anthem, with stations from Cleveland to New York blasting it at 5 p.m. Fridays to start the weekend. But in 1975 I wasn’t yet born generally—let alone to run—so it never became my anthem.

I’ve never liked Bruce Springsteen so not sure I can be objective on this one

3/5 it’s fine not my thing

Didn't move me, but wasn't bad.

Just not my thing

I didn't really connect with the album. Couple of great tracks

This album is dipped in double denim, ten gallon hats and a 20pk of Marlboro

Bruce Springsteen makes music for the American equivalent of British kitchen sink dramas, and I adore those. But it seems that the Springsteen equivalent comes with too much grandeur for me. Granted, grandeur has its' place on theatrical albums like Bat Out of Hell or The Wall, but on records like Born To Run I experience a disconnect between style and subject matter. Sorry Bruce.

#409. Not as bad as Born in the USA as far as cheesiness goes, but it does remind me of Meat Loaf way more often than I would have expected. 3/5: okay

ah maybe this is made for American people. instrumentals are average, voice is very annoying (kinda knew it would be) for me it represents nearly everything wrong with bad 70s/80s vocalists. some of the guitar/string/brass parts are quite cool, especially with last 2 songs. to me, nearly the whole album feels like the overly happy major chord dominant closing song in a bad western musical. favorite songs (relative): born to run, meeting across the river and the closing track I guess, as the instrumental part in the middle may be the best part of the album for me. overall around 5/10

Nothing particularly standout here apart from the last track. Quite sentimental with some good lyrics

Never been a Bruce guy. This was better than the last one, but doesn't pump my crank

I think I’m discovering that I’m just not a Springsteen guy. It’s fine. But nothing that thrills me. 3/5

у старины есть конечно свой стиль, и приколдесы свои.. но чет как то перетянуто местами

As you would imagine a Bruce Springsteen album to be. Kind of boring.

This is just not for me

This one is good. Again, I'm not a huge Springsteen fan. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out is my favorite hit, and I liked Meeting Across the River. Solid 3 on this.

As a New Jersey native, Bruce Springsteen was proudly considered our real musician. Sure we had Naughty By Nature, My Chemical Romance, Jonas Brothres, and Bon Jovi, (and underground local heros like Chunky Pam and The Sly Caps,) but only The Boss and Sinatra were taken seriously. Still, I never really listened much beyond the radio hits. The every-day-man-singing-songs-about-the-working-class-but-never-had-a-job-outside-of-being-a-musician seemed inauthenticate, though the songs were good. Right off the bat, the album carries an Americana about it, funneled into a rock genre instead of the typical country stylings more often associated with songs reflecting the American life and the struggles therein. "Night" brings in a saxophone which adds a touch of a Billy Joel rock aspect to it, while Springsteen sings in a more operatic voice than to which I'm accustomed. I can't get past thinking that this album sounds much like Meatloaf meets Eddie and the Cruisers. Theatric, majestic, good ol' fashioned rock n' roll, but maybe a bit over the top and as formulaic and manufactured for a wide audience as a movie soundtrack. "Born to Run" is the big hit here, and it sits perfectly in line with the rest of the album, for better or worse. A good song, but they are all so equally good mid-tempo rock that nothing much stands out; the album is good but monochromatic, and could benefit from occasional changes in style, instrumentation, and/or approach. "Meeting Across the River" is an exception here, a slower song with piano instead of guitar. Lest you think this approach is too different, you can appreciate this same formula in the intro for "Jungeland," AND THEN jump into the same theatrical Meatloaf rock you've come to expect--nay, loathe--from Born To Run, and then--surprise--back to the slow piano song in an attempt to make an emotionally sweeping, epic tale. I like theatrical rock and the skillset is evident, but this is too over the top.

Big, romantic, shooting for the stars with every track. There’s a heavy dose of homage to '50s and early '60s rock and roll, with wall-of-sound production, some doo-wop flair, and that teenage yearning. The E Street Band is in full force here, energetic and totally committed, complete with a soulful saxophone and a twinkly glockenspiel. What really stands out is how Springsteen takes everyday people and casts them in these sweeping, cinematic epics. It reminds me a bit of Billy Joel’s “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant” with regular folks turned into legends of their own little tragedies and triumphs. For all their differences, both artists channel the spirit of their generation and are full of nostalgia, grit, and big-hearted storytelling. And both have what strike!as very Northeastern energy (New Jersey and New York) which carries into their work giving it a distinct sense of place. The title track is a classic. I didn't connect with everything here, but Springsteen is wearing his heart on his sleeve and is taking big swings. 3.5

I don't hear too much of a different feel from Born in the USA. The xylophone seems to be prominent throughout the album though. More Americana from Bruce.

My friend tells me this is a masterpiece. Maybe it is, I don't know. To me it's fine I guess. It sounds like it would be fun to walk into a bar and hear this band play. I think I've only ever listened to Born in the USA. There are a few very popular bands I've never heard a whole album by (or did only recently) because so many of their songs I heard so oftem on the radio growing up. This is clearly one of those. I like the title track. I like She's the One. All in all I'd say i like the 2nd half more than the first half.

It was alright I can see how Sam fender was inspired by it but not a fan fave of mine

not my favorite. a rock-and-roll version of billy joel.

Again why do we need two Springsteen albums? This is probably better than Born in the USA, a bit more urgency. Last two songs are terrible, was he trying to write a musical? I wonder if my problem is that I've just got out of the habit of listening to albums over the years and hearing too many similar sounding songs is problematic.

Normal. Sounds the same.

I liked it overall. High 3 for me

Feels like a mall album, for mass consumption

I like it enough.

Best Song: Thunder Road Worst Song: Backstreets

I think this is a good album, but I don't like nearly as many of the tracks individually as I do on "Born in the USA". For whatever reason, that album stands well together and separately, whereas I feel like most of "Born To Run" is best in its whole album form. Nonetheless, this album is where Bruce Springsteen really found his footing and his place as a musician. And though this is only his third album, he already feels like a master storyteller here. Though this album doesn't feel quite as Americana as "Born in the USA", the makings of it are here; you have bluesy rock and roll sounds, good songwriting, and strong, unique vocal presence. I like and appreciate Bruce Springsteen, but I've never been a HUGE fan. So while I can appreciate his impact and the strengths of this album, it really doesn't hit a home run for me quite as much as it might other people. Still, this is one of his best albums ever and a worthy entry, but for me personally, just not quite as good as "Born in the USA". I would say this album is more than a 3, but less than a 4.

Better than Born in the USA

My first thought was that this was what Bat Out of Hell was a parody of. Turns out there’s some truth to that!

This is maybe shameful but I don’t think I listened to enough Bruce growing up to really like this a lot. I’m sorry E

Good, but a lot of the songs sound very similar.

bien sympa !

I like some Springsteen songs in isolation. The electric guitar and saxophone combo is wicked (see Sam Fender). But his voice is a bit grating when you get a whole album's worth in one go - like being shouted at by an old smoker

Decent album. Hard to understand his voice and lyrics.

Thunder Road - 4/10 The harmonica in the beginning scared me a lil bit Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - 4.5/10 Getting whiplash from last album. Night - 5/10 the drums are promising in the beginning. This one is more upbeat and optimistic. Backstreets - 6/10 Pianos remind of another song but idr Born to Run - 6/10 It's giving sims music. its the sparkles. She's the One - 5/10 Meeting Across the River - 6/10 ooh this one is kinda romantic. i think its the trumpet. Jungleland - 6/10 another sims song? Overall: 5.3/10

I liked this more than I expected. I’ve never really cared for what I’d heard from Springsteen but I’d also not listened to a full album. There’s some really good stuff on here. His voice is still not my favorite but it didn’t entirely hinder my enjoyment of this album.

Appreciate the artist. I never got into the music

Day 1 Backstreets is really cool. Same goes for Thunder Road. Really dig the vibe. She’s the one is also really nice. The album ends on Jungleland. It is a good written piece. A good ending to a pretty awesome album. 3.5/5

It didn't really do much for me. It would probably take more listens to really appreciate the songs because they were so dense with story telling.

I’m just not a Springsteen fan beyond Philadelphia. Born to run had good potential but when he started singing I was no longer into it.

Listenable. Might be better with further listens. Not many songs that catch the attention. A bit dreary. Tenth-Avenue Freeze out highlight of the album

Samey and repetitive in places

Not really a Springsteen guy but this had some highs I wasn't expecting. Not bad but not amazing to me.

bupe.. buce springsteen. vasta viides albumi. sad. pitäisi olla jo toistakymmentä tässä vaiheessa huoh. tämä nyt oli tämmönen joo.. hyviä ralleja väähän heikompia rallauita.. brupe pringsteens.... uljas... uljas ori... stallioni... kyrpä kuin leijona+hirvi-hybridillä... mahtavat uljaat pallit + jämäkkä pitkä pippeli kuin punapuu keskellä ruohopeltoa... wonderfull stuff bure... joskus täytyy lopettaa hälinä ja prkl kuunnella... unohdettu miten kuunnella prkl... Not the best of Springsteen...

I like the vibe of the music, but I don’t care for Springsteen’s vocals so much. They’re not bad, per-say, but nothing that’s gonna stick in my head. No skips, but nothing I’d return to either. All the songs sound the same, and exactly like I’d imagine a parody of Bruce Springsteen would sound too. A filler album. 3/5

it's ok

3.2 decent, no more

Every song sounds like I’m in a romcom and he just came running back to meet me on the train platform right before I leave to tell me he can’t live without me and I fall into his arms and now we’re making out and it’s fading to black and the credits are rolling…

3 estrelas

It was OK, seems the cords and saxophone arrangements became synonymous with his Christmas hit but the hardworking but broke machismo is a little dated.

If only he could sing decently, I would've given it a solid 4. Instrumentally it's so good, be it the beautiful piano throughout, the bittersweet guitar riffs or jazzy and soulful horns and saxophones. There is classic rock and roll energy as well as tender moments. The sax solo in Jungleland is such an emotional ride.(And the album should've ended with that. But the song stretches on to end with his typical croaking). Lyrics are great too. But his vocals and lack of melody in his singing are a big downer for me.And I'm not a purist when it comes to voice. I love Bob Dylan and Kurt Cobain. But they sound self aware. Springsteen's voice just doesn't strike the same chord. Is it an acquired taste? Will it grow on me? Album cover is so cool though. Favorites: Thunder road, Backstreets, Born to Run, She's the one,

Meh. Another 3 stars for this guy. Alternating between shouting and mumbling, the boss sounds like he needs to eat more fibre.

I think you should always listen to a Bruce Springsteen album twice before making a decision about it. It turns out that I love this album a lot more upon the second listen. I have always been put off by his use of major mode as the setting for such insightful, sometimes dark, lyrics about human grit. But I'm learning that maybe minor mode is the easy way out. Maybe saying those things along with that quintessential E Street Band joyful saxophone lick is actually a way to inject some optimism into the darkness. All I can say is, after listening to the boss I always feel a lot cooler.

boring asf 5/10

Still not a Bruce guy, though Born to Run is a banger.

Not bad

A few good songs. Not totally into it, but not bad.

A fine album, not my genre.

I want to be more into this, but I can't get behind it. It's no doubt a good album that has stood the test of time and produced many radio hits, but it isn't for me. I thought it was musically lame, besides the sax.

Springsteen’s voice is a minus, Clemon’s playing is a plus, hit or miss tracks

Surprisingly good boomer music. No bad songs, Born to Run is a bop

Not too shabby Bossman

Yhden kuuntelun perusteella ihan passelia. Pitää kuunnella uudestaan paremmalla ajalla.

Spruce Bringsteen

Bruce brings me some joy and a lot of nostalgia, but even though I’ve listened to him basically my whole life, I’d still consider myself a casual fan. Born To Run is his second album with the E Street Band and probably his definitive statement with that group - it’s a representation of that point when everything about them was on fire. So you can definitely feel that magic on some levels, but as is usually the case with me and the Boss, his songwriting doesn’t check all of my boxes. I enjoy it when artists get a little more whimsical and freewheeling with their imaginations.

Noteworthy songs - 808080808 Magical Dream - Kinda catchy synth, but the rest is bland. Ancodia - Good background noise. Cobra Bora - Actually kind of cool, reminds me of Bomberman Hero. Pacific 202 - N64 vibes, but melody isn't great. Donkey Doctor - Nothing too special, weird ending. 808080808 - Really cool beginning. A little slow in the middle but stays interesting enough. Sunrise - Nothing remarkable. The Fat Shadow - Eerie. Very short.

There’s something about the big, carousing sound of Springsteen’s style that is exhausting to me. It’s too much. I feel like I need to do a lot of drinking to keep up. Dylan gives me the same sensation. Tracks like 10th Avenue, Born to Run, and Meeting Across the River work better than the rest. I respect the talent on display here, but this is overall loud to me. Like Meatloaf with much, much better songwriting.

mumbly, dramatic, yelly, saxophoney. Never got the man's appeal. I still don't.

I know many find him iconic but I’ve never been able to get into Bruce. I think it’s the singing… the way he sings, closer to talking than melodic, makes many of his songs sound similar. I hear some good piano, the themes of the sings are sometimes interesting lyrically. I don’t think it is BAD, just not hearing the masterpiece that many others do.

Hardly earth shattering

Don't like the boss very much.

It was alright

Just not the biggest fan of "the boss"

Dad rock supreme. Springsteen seems like he'd be a cool dude to have a beer with. He's definitely an iconic rocker from back in the day. I just don't really like his music that much. I can appreciate that his band is fabulous, I actually do like his voice, I just don't connect with any of his music really at all. I'd heard this album a few times before, but not in years. It's a fun album but not one that I would ever really put on to listen to. Great sax, seems a little ahead of the 'cheesy 80s sax' that was in everything for a while. Good bass too. Favorite song was Jungleland - it sort of played a bit like a song from a Broadway show. I think my favorite thing about this album is actually the Telecaster on the cover, would love to have that bad boy. But the album is fine, just not really to my taste. 3/5

First time listening to this artist

❤️

just so-so for me. Never cared for his voice.

Sure. It was never my favorite, but I get it. Not bad.

Everything is right objectively, but I find myself not really caring for almost anything Bruce Springsteen. It’s all a bit too polished and bombastic for me.

Heartland rock. Pretty good but thought a lot of the piano made this album incredibly goofy. Jungleland was fun. 3/5.

Bruce er Bruce. Men Bruce er også fed nok som han nu er.

I don't think I will ever understand the praise of Bruce completely. To me, this is the most meats and potatoes or dad rock you can get. It's extremely unexciting to me, even the most popular song of the album 'Born To Run' just passes me by without any real emotion. And the same goes for the rest of the songs.

Tenth avenue is a fav of mine, and Born to Run is still relevant today. The rest of the album just isn't at the same level.

Good - bit samey?

This was one of his better albums.

Annoying voice, good music though. Last track is fantastic.

Actually quite liked this. It wasn't as rocky as I expected which was nice

It was not horrible but I don’t think I want to hear any more Bruce Springsteen before I die.

Under 200 albums in and this is the 4th Springsteen album. I understand why this one is on the list but 4 Springsteen albums seems like overkill. The songs on this album are so melodramatic and he’s just yelling about New Jersey and muscle cars. No thanks.

His singing voice grew on me. Favorite song is “Night.”

yeah alright

Un clásico, muy bueno

Album. Not my favourite Springsteen album but still pretty good after all these years.

One continuous anthemic blast, not much variation but does what it does well.

Pretty good, not really my kind of music but definitely good songs.

Bruce is so iconic. Every song was so relaxing

Bruce brucing around. What a guy. NJ native. Grumbling and mumbling like the best of them. Jabs aside. It’s undeniable how great of a song writer he is. This is an album that will probably grow on me over time

Bruce Springsteen returns with Born To Run and for me its one of those albums that mostly shines throughout the back half. The songs on the front half were all decent but a bit too similar sounding to each other but the back half did have some genuinely beautiful sounding moments and the songs there felt like they had their own identity and were not all too similar to each other. I think this album is better than Darkness On The Edge Of Town since i feel like i can remember the back half songs here better than all of the songs on that album. This album is quite good Best Song: Meeting Across the River Worst Song: Backstreets

It sounds incredibly similar to Billy Joel for like basically the whole album, with the simple yet effective melodies and the soloistic piano parts. It’s a solid album, really.

# 232 : Bruce Springsteen's one of those guys I don't see what all the hype is about. I've always been pretty indifferent about Springsteen. Never hated his music nor really got into his stuff either. Some nice epic and emotional stuff, but I found it a little boring with too much saxa-ma-phone :-D. Best track on this : Born To Run

bruce sounds like he's singing and pooping at the same time

Thunder Road - 3 Tenth Avenue - 3 Night - 3 Backstreets - 3 Born to Run - 3 She's the One - 3 Meeting Across the River - 3 Jungleland - 3 All the songs are the same. Music is fine and his voice is okay. Fat 3.

Thunder road - 3.7 Tenth avenue - 3 Night - 3.2 Backstreets - 2.7 Born to run - 4 She's the one - 3 Meeting across the river - 2.5 Jungle land- 3 3.14 A way more enjoyable experience than I would have expected. Born to run and thunder road are BOPs

A few good songs, but nothing more than middle-ground in my opinion. I know people regard it as a classic, but it's just not really for me.

Not a big fan of Bruce Springsteen i did like this album though but its just not for me

Cool dude, just not my type of songs. Generational voice, but quite average sound.

I knew a bunch of these songs. I just don't see listening to it again.

Ahh, Springsteen. I've said it before, but I've never been a big fan. And there's a few songs on here that are really good, but there's a bunch that I'm not a huge fan of either. Nebraska was great, this one wasn't. It evens out to be an okay album, but that's just it for me, okay.

Strong start with Thunder Road and the title track is an all American classic. It fizzled out a bit after that, for me. Had higher hopes for the epic closer Jungleland which never really hit the heights it threatened. Parts of this album sound like if Meatloaf had shown more restraint, which isn't what I was expecting here. Good, not great, but definitely some choice cuts to come back to.

Before this, I've only known Bruce Springsteen as the "Born in the USA" guy. This was a pretty decent album. There were some really good songs, and the rest were just fine. 6/10 Would I listen again? Eh maybe.

Decent enough

Not my usual cup of tea but it was really good

Bruce the US Springsteen.

Decent. Middle of the road sort of material.

Very dramatic First couple songs seem very driving Like broadway style performance in a bad way

FAVO: Jungleland

6.5/10

It‘s okay but too murica for me

I like it. Probably not a big fan though

I get that this is a classic album adored by Springsteen fans. But for me the songs had a tendency to ramble on.

I’m not the biggest Bruce Jerseyan out there, but thought this did the job. Wouldn’t go back though and would still probably only listen to the bigger songs.

This is objectively a good album. It doesn’t hit for me quite as much as it seems others but this wasn’t necessary the music that I grew up on so I don’t have that background. The lack of annunciation really got me because I don’t know what he’s saying most of the time but it’s an album that I would put on again

Didn’t grow up listening to Bruce so I don’t have the nostalgia connection others have to give it auto 5 ⭐️, so here is a sober take: Dad rock (whether or not you use that term as a pejorative, it fits the bill). Def hear the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" inspiration. the instrumentation is fantastic, vocals not so great but that’s part of the charm. One of the reviews said he sounds like Meatloaf and i can't unhear it. The worst part for me is the mumbling, histrionic lyrics (although I can see how they would be fun if you grew up with them and know them all). I really want to like it more but it’s hard to sing along when you can’t make out the lyrics.

Fine, but I'm not a big fan.

What kind of music is Bruce Springsteen, because this isn’t rock and roll, or folk, or country. It’s its own catagory, just like the Beatles have Beatlesque Springsteen deserves it’s own category. Favorite: Born to Run Least favorite: 10th Avenue Freeze out Oh also every song sounds the same, sorry Bruce. 3.6/5

A lot of heavy lifting from the title track

Better than expected. Turns out I like some Bruce Springsteen. I'm not in love with this, but it's solid. 3.49/5

I have no criticism of this guy or his music, he's talented and well loved, I just don't feel any connection to or joy from listening to his stuff. 3 stars because he's legendary.

I thought I would hate this because I just kinda dislike Bruce Springsteen and the americana he embodies, but it's not terrible. Not great either.

Classic Bruce. He doesn’t have a great voice but has written some meaningful work.

Song 1- meh Mid album

Classic American rock. Not bad but not for meeee.

Pretty decent. Some really electrifying stuff, some skippable stuff too. It's cohesive but I was a little tired of the sound by the end.

Buen disco

I'd never been arsed to listen to him before but honestly, I'm glad I did, he's not half bad and I kind of understand the hype. I mean if Lana said he's the king then he must be good. I enjoyed Tenth avenue freeze out, Night and Backstreets (I loved when he strained his voice in that it sounded really cool- must've hurt though). Watched the video for born to run- why do they all play so weird, his whole body is literally spasming, feel like he's gonna have a heart attack. I am a fan though.

C'était pas mal en fait

Never listened to a Bruce Springsteen album. Wasn't a fan of the saxophone. They should be left in the 70s and 80s. Nothing really stood out for me, except for 'Born to Run' of course.

Pretty good, I enjoyed most of it

it's aight

Listening to this album makes me aware of how much the 1980s SNL band sounded like E Street band. Bruce Springsteen, in all his blue collar, gritty glory shows how he is a master storyteller in his music. Can't say I love this album, but respect for the Boss.

This album is Springsteen's jump to major league stardom, and the title track is a classic stadium track. Springsteen worked really hard at making this album as strong as it is. The title track is the most recognisable and is very anthemic, though Springsteen's music isn't generally to my taste. I love the cover.

Springsteen is overrated.

Bruce Springsteen has one of the most controversial voices in all of music. In my opinion, Born to Run features some of his most grating vocal performances. And yet, I still caught myself tapping my foot along to the entire album. While his personal performance left a lot to be desired, I completely understand why Born to Run is a classic. Best Songs: Born to Run, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out Worst Songs: Thunder Road

Born to run is good but a couple of forgettable tracks

Finally got to enjoy the album whilst on an Uber and walking through IAH airport… Thunder Road, Backstreets stood out … was certainly in his space…

It was alright

Enjoyed it more than expected

first listen i can recognize the american heritage of this album but still it somehow still isn't my cup of tea

This is cool. Never really sat and listened to Springsteen's album. Pretty rocking.

Honest surprise. Again. Springsteen always has come to my mind as a generic rockman, but his songs have something more to it. 3.5/5.

Bruce is a great artist but it is not my vibe. I won't say it is dated, it is just not my style.

I don't think I like Springsteen's voice as much as I thought I did.

Very good album I just don't dig the Boss

Rock legend Bruce Springsteen's 1975 album "Born to Run" is a record that I, even after a relisten, still find myself to be ambivalent towards. It's primarily the production of this album. This came out in the mid-70s and by those standards, the production here is squeaky clean and admittedly luscious. There is a certain charm to the clarity of each instrument here and the way they blend to form these jovial walls of sound that are reminiscent of the best nights out. On the other hand, the artificial nature of its polish leaves me yearning for an edge that, in my opinion, would've complemented Bruce's vocals much better. I think my main problem is a lot of the jazz sections that come in that feel utterly unnatural in the mix for me. The exception to this is the sax section on the ambitious closer "Jungleland", which has my favorite closer instrumental on the album. Bruce's vocals, when they do work, are utterly mesmerizing, emotive, and, above all else, powerful. The guttural nature of his delivery works wonders on some of these tracks. The dude can write great melodies too, none better than the opener "Thunder Road" where he seamlessly switches between the many melodies that this track's composed of. The melodies are easily the highlight of this album. I also enjoy the chorus of "Night" a song about letting loose when you clock out of your shift. After the first few songs, and say for maybe the title track, I find his voice becomes mildly grating and I'm not even sure why. I like his vocals but whenever I get to the end of the second half, I really can't enjoy his vocals anymore. It might have something to do with the repetitive nature of the subject matter that crops up throughout this album, another thing I feel this album has going against it; Bruce just loves love. Nothing wrong with writing love songs and, for what it's worth, I think Bruce is particularly skilled at that, it's just that I wish there was something more interesting here to digest. Again, the exception to this is the outro to the closer, where his soaring vocals close out the album over these gorgeous arpeggiated piano keys. It might seem like I hate this album when I don't. "Thunder Road" is one of my favorite rock songs of all time. For the most part, I enjoy the first half of this record way more than I do the second. I enjoy this album's accessibility as well, it's very easy to slide into and is filled with melodic hooks that evoke a nostalgic sense of both melancholy but also glee. It's also just super catchy. 6/10

Too bombastic and try-hard for my taste. Good rock and roll though!

Cool Springsteen

I’m not a Bruce fan but this is a good one.

An ok album

Not a bad album. There are a couple of really good songs and the rest are pretty listenable.

mit dem Boss konnte ich noch nie was anfangen

It's a shorter line than you think from Bruce to Meatloaf. Gather round the ol' joanna for some overwrought storysongs about automobiles-as-freedom. Maybe. Could be great if you're in the mood but fill in that blank... *key change*... **sax solo**

fun, strong start but falls off at the end 3

I guess I just never understood the hype. A pretty good garage rocker, but nothing overly impressive.

Lots of classics, but not necessarily an album that I would return to as a whole.

Pretty good. I never really got into Bruuuuuuuuuce, but I was never annoyed when their music started playing somewhere. Born To Run is a five star song. If this website had the option to give the album three and a half stars then that’s what I would choose, but it doesn’t so I’ll go with three stars.

3/5 Favourite Song: I've never quite clicked with Springsteen, and I did have to listen to it twice as well, as my speaker automatically shuffled the first time. I debated between a 2 and a 3 for this, as it's fun, but feels very repetitive. But there's a cinematic edge to the album that I do enjoy so that's pushed it up.

He's the boss for a reason. No one makes "stadium rock" like Bruce.

Definitely a classic that I had never bothered to sit down and listen through. Rich, folksy, and full of character. It's clear why he became such an icon.

Enjoyed born to run and jungleland. I like when Albums end with an extra long epic song. 3.8

Quintessential Bruce. A couple of classics on this one.

this one’s for u nathan

Strong but somehow it’s not doing it for me anymore

"Born to Run" feels like a midway point between his more somber material like "Nebraska" and the more upbeat hits he made his living from. And in the same way, it is right in the middle, rating-wise, as I could see myself listening to this album again, but I'm almost always going to go back to "Nebraska" instead. Production-wise, I really do think this album sounds really great. I would prefer the vocals be pulled back a little, but, otherwise, it sounds so real, raw, but also clean.

hate Springsteen’s voice with a passion, but can’t deny the influence of his music. Good record overall

"Backstreets" was a real highlight

Maybe its ok? I just don't get it, one or two tracks hold the best ideas of the album and that's about all I can discern.

I enjoyed it, but I probably wouldn’t choose to listen to it again. I could recognize that it was good, but it wasn’t my favorite style of music.

It's not my favorite Springsteen album but I like it well enough and I think Thunder Road counterbalances how tired I am of the title track (it's played at.... possibly every road race startup corral area ever)

The album was fine There were like five times I looked up during Jungleland and expected the song to be over and it still wasn’t

Another 3, again because I can see why this album is good but it's not really my cup of tea. I feel like there may be a bit of Seinfield effect here as I feel like I've heard this sort of sound so much that it just seemed boring to me, but there were songs I liked such as Night and Meeting Across The River, who were interestingly the least popular according to Spotify. Also it kind of just reminded me a bit of Sonic soundtracks, which are the source of most of my taste in music. 😵

Za few good songs, the rest aren't really my style.

Never really listened to too much Bruce Springsteen. His voice, but just in particular the delivery were always a little grating to me. I actually don't hate the timbre, but it is so slurred. Like marbles in his mouth as others have said. I like other slurred singers too (Pogues/The Clash), just something about his delivery. It gets better as he starts to sing with more passion though. I will give him this, he's a damn good songwriter which I really appreciate. Anyway, the album starts off strong, Thunder Road is a great storytelling adventure, with a linear approach and no repetition or chorus to speak of. Tenth Avenue is a good song, reminds me of Chicago. His voice is crazy different in this song, and I like it so much more. On the next song, he returns to his slurred singing, its okay. Backstreets starts off good, but then the last 3 minutes are a slog. Born to Run is fine, has some good parts. The voice on She's The One, what the hell is that? Meeting Across the River returns to the storytelling motif. I do really enjoy the trumpet as well. Jungleland is another storytelling song, gives big rock opera vibes. The saxophone solo really shines here. Man I really should like this album more than I do. It has great songwriting, and I do enjoy the music. The vocals just are really a drag for me, they are never great, just range from passable to what-the-hell-am-I-hearing? The album starts and ends strong, but drags in the middle. I also think the album is all very similar, lots of piano, sax, mumbling, and messages of finding yourself, being the best you can be, etc. The message and themes all seem to be about breaking free, getting out of bad situations, etc. Which is great, but repetitive. Overall, the good songs saved it for me 3/5 Favorite Songs: Thunder Road, Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out, Meeting Across the River, Jungleland Least Favorites: Backstreets, She's the One

not really my style but pretty good songs

love bruce springsteen, but not my favourite album of his tbh

Really not into his voice, but the instrumentals are compelling. Definitely benefits from the wall of sound treatment.

This was not bad. There were a couple of good songs on it but mostly it was just okay.

10th Avenue Freeze-out and Born To Run are fantastic songs. Everything else just doesn’t really resonate with me. Bruce is weird because I really like some of his stuff but most of his catalogue is just instantly forgettable to me.

Gibt bessere Alben von dem.

I have never seen the appeal of Bruce Springsteen so have never listened to a complete album. I didn’t hate it.

Early Springsteen was already good, but not fully in the groove.

I’ve never been crazy about Springsteen. I think this is a good era for his sound (even if I don’t find it particularly groundbreaking or exciting). Where I think he shines is in his evocative lyricism and storytelling. Yet unlike Bob Dylan, who allows his subpar singing to be front and center as a showcase of his lyricism, I feel that Springsteen’s voice often seems to hide behind the other instruments/reverb/production in a way that makes his lyrics less transparent. And at a certain point, I got sick of every song starting quieter and then moving into grandiose rock & roll. Is it a great album? Sure. But I do think it’s overrated, and perhaps unjustly, I’m punishing it for that. I do concede that “Born to Run” is an excellent song.

3 stars, just for Born to run

born to run goes hard. i think i prefer the more anthemic songs to the diner piano vibe.

Born to run is an excellent song. Otherwise, a decent album.

Listened Before? No I know people go wild for Bruce, but I've never bought into the hype. This'll be my first listen through one of his albums in totality. Album opens on Thunder Road, which is a fine enough song. Really don't love Bruce's vocals; thankfully, they are pretty buried by piano and guitar in the mix. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out is a familiar, plonky one. As far as Bruce goes, I enjoy this more than most. It has a nice hop to it. Piano line intro for Jungleland sounds suspiciously like Elton John's Tiny Dancer. A single listen didn't do anything to sway me onto the Springsteen bandwagon. Objectively, it is a fine enough album, but there isn't much here that calls to me. I really don't care for Bruce's vocals and think that the production as a whole isn't wonderful. The sax work is fine, but there is a certain cheese factor to a lot of the songs that I can't seem to get over. Its like Christmas music that has been polished and packaged as rock. I'm a very soft 3 on this one. Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlists:

Bruce!

I know some Springsteen but never have done a huge dive into him. Excited for this one. Well that was just meh for me. Not terrible just nothing that did much for me. Liked the last song Jungleland but otherwise I now know why I’ve never gotten super into Springsteen.

3/5 - Although I still find him mostly annoying, this was a decent album for him. Just listening to it i can imagine how fun he probably had performing some these tunes. He basks in his own style a bit on this and it's nice to see he has his own thing. Still think he did it all for the women, but can't hate the guy for that.
