Reviews (page 13 of 14)

Ugh terrible. Maybe it was good once but now it just sounds like old people reminiscing for decades ago. A lot of wailing.

Zu poppig, zu weichgespült, zu wenig Abwechslung

I feel bad because I know a lot of people who love Bruce, but this album was barely not a 1 for me. It all sounded samey and I couldnt really connect with the lyrics

He always sounds like he's drunk, rushing and stumbling to keep up with the pace of the music. Tried, but sorry Bruce, don't think I'm a fan.

have never listened to a Bruce Springsteen album. only Springsteen song I've listened to on purpose, as a much younger fella, is Devils & Dust for the cool shortened-phrase move in the chorus. Born to Run seems really mediocre??? music: hated. (⌐■_■)

I don’t have any strong negative feelings about Bruce Springsteen, but he’s never done it for me. No exception here. An observation: between grade school and post secondary, Springsteen was a full time student until he was 19. His first record came out when he was 24. That leaves him with 5 years in which he could have plausibly Had A Job. Huge achievement to carve out a 50+ year niche as a workin’ man’s hero based on that.

Never been a Springsteen or American MOR rock. There is something about Springsteen’s voice although distinctive, I do not like. I have a Springsteen greatest hits album which will be as far as ever go purchasing his stuff. As regards this album I have given it a listen through and found it to be normal Springsteen fare. All songs are a bit samey. Everyone knows the title track Born To Run but as a retired runner I find it nauseating as it was audible on every street corner on a marathon route so I hope I never hear it again (and Frankie Goes To Hollywood version is miles better!) Worth a 2.5 but that voice and song reduces it to 2.

Pffft, dit is echt niet mijn ding.

Fun album, just feels drawn out

I know I'm supposed to like Springsteen but he always seems so corny and mawkish

6,5/10 Highlight: Born to Run

At when Meatloaf does storytelling music the music is good. The hits are fine

It's okay. Good for roadtrips, maybe.

respect to Bruce. but I didn't really like this album. ok bye!

Mom, I want meatloaf. No honey, we have meatloaf at home The meatloaf at home...

boring

⭐️⭐️ I am just not a fan of Bruce Springsteen. He is a storyteller lyricist, his stories just do not appeal to me. They never have. 10 Ave Freeze Out is the best song on the album to me. I know ThunderRoad supposedly changes lives and Born to Run is most people’s favorite; they can keep it.

Not my cup of tea :(

I've never really understood the appeal of Springsteen. Always sounds to me like he's doing drunken karaoke of the actual songs. Specifically on the song Born to Run, there's a quality to the song where it feels like the music is going too fast and the vocals are struggling to keep up. The production of so many of these songs is over the top, fuzzed out and full of wild little instrumental solos that just baffle me. I don't get it. That said ... special shout out to the glockenspiel player who hangs on for the whole song Born To Run, it's my favorite part. Album is a 2.5 rounded down.

Boring

I understand this album/artist means so much to so many people, but I could not make a connection. I suppose I’m not the target audience. It was fine, if a bit bland. Highlights: Born to Run, Meeting Across the River.

going into this challenge, the only song that i particularly like by springsteen was “born to run”. upon listening to this entire album, that hasn’t changed. i just don’t get it. always been more of a mellencamp guy.

His voice just doesn't do it for me

Nah Bruce

I never got the hype about Bruce Springsteen and I didn't particularly liked this album either. It's better than some others I've already listened to, there's a good energy on this album, but it's still too overblown and not interesting music to me.

Personal review. A lot more tinkly piano and Christmas Carol sounding than the old timey rock n roll I was lead to believe they sounded like. Backstreets was my favorite.

Too pathetic

Ok Boomer.

it was technically music

donio review - bruce springsteen has a very powerful voice and I never felt like he got monotone throughout the album, I liked his singing throughout the whole thing didn’t really see any lowlights, i liked the story behind the album too, a sort of do or die for him and he comes out balls blazing, for me personally however, I found the instrumentals slightly too basic on some songs but I feel like the album is very pop rock (for the time, classic rock for nowadays) so I guess that’s to be expected when your listening to an album made over fifty years ago, I also felt like to me at least, the lyrics didn’t feel too relatable or didn’t connect to me, especially after the last album we just reviewed. I also have not listened to much classic rock so maybe this is amazing for the genre but for me it wasn’t anything special (i always feel like I might be influenced by the fact I really liked the velvet underground’s self titled so I came in with slightly higher expectations). I also have read and saw that this album really shined because it was one of the first examples of a record company pouring HEAPS of money into promotion which bruce hated. Furthermore it seems like the consensus that this album in a live setting is much better. My favourite tracks were as follows 1. Night 2. Tenth Avenue 3. Backstreets As such I give the album a 2/5. // thematically boring, but springsteen’s unique voice makes this an enjoyable listen.

I know he is supposed to be one of the rock goats but only the last 2-3 songs of the album were kiiiiinda songs I‘d maybeeee listen again in the far future

Never been a huge Springsteen fan, but he has some good song, and I can recognize his talent. After listening to this album, I can see why this album was well regarded but it isn't for me. Overall, just meh.

Definitely overrated

Heard it before?: No Enjoy it?: not really, his other work shines way more than this Favourite song: didn’t have one

Have to admit to being a little disappointed as other than Born to Run there were no other songs I actually liked.

I guess I get it, but, oh, boy, it's so boring.

Oh hello Bruce. My parents are way more into this than I am. It is boomer rock. You cannot get around this fact. The music isn't complicated or intense, but definitely has a vibe.. It's like his voice has a tremolo constantly on it, I can't explain what it is.. maybe he's chewing marbles? I guess he can tell a story. The story of boomer rock. This is easy listening but it's just meh. He speaks to an America doesn't exist now. Review of Reviews: No you are all wrong. This isn't that good. Best Track: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out for its bangin' horns and bass.

Meeehhh

People complain about the mumble rap that is currently popular and I can't help but think that Springsteen is partly to blame. I could not understand more than half of what this dude was singing which I usually don't mind if the music sounds nice but in this case, it was a chore to get through. Wholly uninspired, generic rock that tries to trick you into thinking you're watching a fireworks show when you're really just watching a few guys standing around holding sparklers. Springsteen is basically a discount Meatloaf and it feels like his ultimate dream is to be Roy Orbison which he falls drastically short of. He obviously inspired many musicians who came after him which is commendable but it would be a better use of time to skip the inspiration and go straight to the inspired. Meeting Across the River was the clear standout and I don't know why I had never heard it prior to this listen.

I was initially pretty excited for this album, the handful of Springsteen mega hits that have been getting radio play for ~40 years I've liked, but I've learned that outside of those handful of tracks that have transcended time I realy don't care for his music.

Born to run is the only song I mildly like from this album. Also just don’t vibe with the music and his voice is a bit distracting tbh but I can see how it would be considered a classic album

- harmonica is the most annoying instrument - dog movies - Merica

Not the worst things I've ever heard, but not anything to ever seek out.

Not really my flavour, he goes into a bit of an elvis/drunk vibe at the beginning and it takes a while to break out. Jungleland might actually be my favorite song on the album, it feels like a really heartfelt story instead of just packaged nonsense

I get it, but I just think we've moved passed this

1/2 absolute ragers 1/2 questionable which is not good on an 8 track album

Excited to start this because I'm not a music person. Listening to this first part of the album while I clean. 1. Thunder Road: Didn't know this one. Didn't do much for me. 2. Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out: Found myself bobbing my head a good bit. Fun song. 3. Night: Liked the back half of the song. Feels like it might not be my kind of album but I'm hearing things I like, so that's cool. 4. Backstreet: Enjoyed the beat of this one. 5. Born to Run: Definitely see why the song is popular. I think I'm just not a Springsteen guy. 6. She's the One: Didn't do much for me. 7. Meeting Across the River: Loved the jazzy opening. Slowed things down a little. Again, totally see why people love this album. 8. Jungeland: Strong ending to the album for me. Definitely enjoyed that one but I don't know enough about music to know why. Boodro Rating: 4/10

Also boomer core but better than Dire Straights Will I listen to again: 0%

Not a huge fan

I can understand how this is a great album for those it's aimed at. There's a great variety of piano and guitar, but Springsteen's voice has never done it for me and I don't think the sound mix does him any favors on this album either, some of the lyrics are difficult to pick out. Favorite track: Thunder Road

Thunder Road: Harmonica. Piano. Guitar. I have no feelings about it. Also why does it kinda sound like a Christmas Song at some times... Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out: Honestly the brass is serving... Bruce sounds like he's gonna need a lozenge after singing this though Night: Christmas music again. Backstreets: Bro you need to stop straining your voice, it's okay you can sing normally no one will judge you (I will). Born to Run: A classic I guess. The sax is iconic though, so I'll forgive little Brucey. She's the One: Hated this, hope she didn't hear this brother. Meeting Across the River: I feel nothing. Next. Jungleland: If you can't get across the message you wanna convey in less than 9 min then don't be a musician please. Sidenote: The Rat. Overall: Not the biggest fan of this kind of music. Feels too “American”, but the use of brass instruments carried the sound throughout so can’t give it a 1.

Thunder Bird - I don't like this Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out - This was good, I liked this Night - i dont' like this Backstreets - This song was so long for nothing Born to Run - Everybody loves this song, it was ok She's the One - Bad :) Meeting Across the River - Bad :( Jungleland -Oh no the album is over already, but I wasn't enjoying it so much :^( Overall thoughts - I don't think this was an album I needed to listen to before I died, if I had three bullets and a room I'd put this album in time out.

Few decent songs. Never really bothered with him. Not missed out I don't think

Big eh. Too blue collar for me. Need my generations version of this. Music sounds fine but it’s just plain forgettable

Have been a fan for decades and yes there are a couple of great masterful tracks but not my favourite.

The hits on this record were hits for a reason but a majority of the album falls flat. Every piano part plays like a buildup to nothing, Clarence Clemons' sax seems to speak in only one dialect with no variation to compliment the mood of the different tracks While the band were certainly reaching for something grand from start to finish, it's generally a wall of sound and fairly indistinguishable between tracks. It was alright but I probably won't queue this album up again out of choice.

Don't like this music. Had to turn it off it was so bad. I really can't stand it.

I initially wrote 'Nope. This is not for me', but towards the end of the record things picked up. Favourite track: Meeting Across the River, Jungleland.

Full of a feel-good, constantly growing momentum. Surprisingly short and sweet. But Bruce just ain’t my thing. I don’t know why.

Bruce springsteen sucks, why do so many people like him. He can't sing, his music is cheese.

Yeah totally uninteresting to me. I feel bad for giving it two stars, because I know it's important and sure influential but just not for me.

I'm probably going to upset a lot of boomers, but I don't get the hype. A few months back Bruce had some concerts in my country and everyone kept talking about him, people camping to get front to. I did not know that he was like the Harry Styles from the 70s/80s. But well done Bruce, well done. Anyway as for the album, Bruce is a good singer and he has a good voice, but all songs sound relatively the same. Which is fair enough because it all has to sound coherent, but I was happy to see that it was just an 8 song album. Favourite song has to be the lead single; born to run

Didn't like it that much, nothing special

I'm interested to hear everyone else's reviews. Do people actually like Bruce Springsteen? I mean outside of New Jersey. They seem to love him there. Everywhere else he just seems to be enjoyed ironically? I don't know. I don't get it. Dislike his voice. Don't care for his music, overall.

Maybe I'd get it if I was American.

this seems to be an album that elevates outside of its era. My ear hears 80's and 90's patterns even though released mid seventies. I suspect it felt revolutionary for some when released also the album cover looks like gap ad

This album confirms that I don't like Springsteen. The album on the whole is like a soundtrack to a bad musical.

Born to Run on hyvä kappale mutta muuten ehkä vähän tylsähkö levy

Bruce is either a hit or a miss. Too bad most are misses.

Couldn’t get the passed the feeling I was listening to Meat Loaf. Knew the title track and Thunder Road, but wasn’t inspired by any of the other tracks that were new to me.

Backstreets, Born to Run and Jungle land are good. Big brass section, guitar or piano led. Dad loved it.

Bless you Bruce, bit of a yawnfest though :(

I couldn't tell you a single song from this guy but I know I've heard him. Born to Run is kinda cool. 2 stars

Didn't enjoy this as much as I thought I would

I’m going to assume Bruce Springsteen and this album have a bit of a “Seinfeld isn’t funny” trope going on. Perhaps at the time this released it was a fresh sound and Springsteen’s style of singing didn’t sound like a caricature of himself. But as time has passed and many people have taken inspiration from and created their own music in this style, the original stuff here doesn’t sound very original. I could be off here, but that’s the vibe I’m getting. I was disappointed that Thunder Road had nothing to do with The Ballad of Thunder Road other than taking the name of the song from the film, as I quite enjoy Ballad. Not a bad song though. Meeting Across the River was quite enjoyable to me. That’s all I got. 2/5

2 Never really bought into the hype surrounding this guy. I’ve always kind of found his music to be a really generic attempt at connecting with the middle American blue-collar crowd, and this album didn’t do much to change my mind. Really don’t feel like there’s anything overly interesting or diverse going on across the music, and vocally, it feels like he’s doing a parody of himself at times. I will say, the 1975 release date surprised me as I thought this came out in the 80s, so I guess I’ll give him some credit for sounding ahead of his time here. Born to Run is probably the best song on the album by default, but Thunder Road holds a special place in my heart solely due to the Jim Cummings short film of the same name - I recommend giving it a watch on Vimeo if you haven’t seen it, though as a heads-up, there’s a good chance it might make you cry (or at least I did).

That sure was a Springsteen

Why is he so popular? Why is he The Boss? He can't sing.

2. He starts to annoy me after a few songs.

This is the second Springsteen album I've had now, and another that I just haven't connected with on any level beyond one song. I'm reading a lot of people raving about Thunder Road. It feels like it should be an air-punching good time but it's evoking absolutely nothing in me. I don't really like his voice, or particularly the way he sings. It feels like he's tuned into a completely different energy to me. I get why people might like him, but christ, it's not for me. And just to pick out one track in particular to shit on: Backstreets is fucking terrible, my word.

I know I should like it more but Sprinstein has some bad memories attached

it was okay. not my usual choice. really enjoyed jungleland :)

Again, the more famous a Springsteen piece is, the worse it is. This is the second most famous album, and boy do I not like it. Basically just one long saxophone + piano chord drone (the real progenitor to Arcade Fire?) and if you changed every lyric to mumble-yelling "wish I was James Dean" not much would change. Big disappointment after Darkness was a revelation. The musical equivalent of having just one window open on the freeway.

4/10 Not my vibe + Beatles çakması falan gibi hissettim??

Would I choose to listen to Bruce, No. Would I listen to him if his stuff was already playing, probably. The music isn't bad, it's just I can't stand his voice singing, and its all Americana. The album, going on for 50 years old, is not bad, still gets radio air time, so peops still want it to listen to. Definitely has sounds of Meatloaf, Van Morrison, and Dire Straits in there, especially the first track Thunder Road which has a very samey vibe as Meatloaf's Dead Ringer For Love. The last track Jungle Road has a Dire Straits Romeo and Juliet sound.

Boring

Samey, bit of a boring album.

No siis hyvä mutta vähän petyin koska kaipasin vielä lisää vauhtia kuitenkin.

4/10 bad mix. Boring. Weird lyrics

langweilig, eintönig, viel Saxophon, not my thing, aber im hintergrund in einer Bar ok

As far as Bruce Springsteen's discography is concerned, this is my favorite of his I've heard so far, but that still isn't saying it's anything special to me. His voice is still harder to enjoy than praise, and while some of the inclusions of things like saxophone do heighten the experience, a lot of it just feels like that classic rock 'n' roll your great uncle would play at the family BBQ, rather than something to actually rock out to.

his voice is awful to listen to. 2.

Ah, yes. The the undisputed Boss Boomer, the King of Mumbles, himself. This album, as expected, is a collection of glorified blue-collar myths directly targeted at a white-collar middle class audience who wants to feel just a little (not too much, mind you) like a rebel. We're talking jean jackets, not leather. We wouldn't want to go too far. Springsteen's "Born to Run" is a very clever bit of marketing and storytelling... as long as you're looking at it from the right perspective. Like those clever street artists that create photo-realistic sidewalk murals that make it seem like the concrete has cracked away to reveal a fantastical world beneath when you stand in just the right place. But if you take two steps to the left or right, the perspective breaks and the mural is revealed for what it is: a two-dimensional illusion. Just like the murals, if you're not standing in just the right place, Bruce Springsteen's blue-collar mythos is revealed for what it is. A two-dimensional illusion. I'm several steps to the left of boomer so all I see is the fake.

Born To Run is objectively a good song. The rest is meh for me. First Listen?: Y Fav. Track(s): Born To Run Rating: 2/5

Gonna be honest, this album made me feel absolutely nothing. I have no connection to Bruce Springsteen. He's a completely unknown figure in my part of the world and prior to this, the only music of his I've heard was his "Nebraska" album, courtesy of this generator (and I hated that one, by the way. One of my 1/5s).

It was kind of boring. You can start to see where he's headed, but there was a lot of monotony to it.

I couldn't in the past, and I can't now - I just don't get Bruce

I think I've come to realize that I'm not a Springsteen fan. I think what he's come to embody, the working class hero, the common blue-collar guy has preceded his music. At least for my generation. I enjoyed Nebraska only to say that I listened with an open ear and an open heart, but this was kinda more of the same. I don't hate it, but I really don't like it and it's not something that I'd gravitate toward.

not a fan

Soft, ineffective, melodramatic, samey, cheese. Don't understand the appeal. Marketing and myth. It is technically good but that's it. Born to Run is the only song somewhat approaching a song I wouldn't jump to turn off but too self indulgent.

More songs about cars and working. Overly emotive vocals usually turn me off. So do incessant honking horn sections and dorky glockenspiel parts.

Born to avoid this album.

Please, no more Springsteen, I beg you...

Not my type of voice or showman...meh

que pereza

Born to run is a stand out track but it's not enough to save this donkey

I really want to like Bruce. Plenty of people that I have a lot of time for have a lot of time for him. But this album just sounded like someone belting it out over a pub rock band for the most part. I found myself humming along to the title track, but that is probably due to its pleasingly familiarity. The rest of the songs left me rather non-plussed. She’s The One just made me want to go to the source and bust out Bo Diddley. I keep trying with Springsteen, but I have the feeling that if I don’t get it by now, I probably never will.

I listened to it on the way to work and It didn’t hold my attention. I liked the second song. I’d have to listen to it more so I can actually digest it but I didn’t have the desire to.

The first track was good, but the rest of the album was a bit samey and not very interesting

Liked the album but not the artist

27/05/22 2/5 didn't really listen to the lyrics so didn't get much into it, but the piano and rock style suited well together.

Best Song: Born to Run. A classic, surely, but I wonder if the instrumentals are doing more of the work here than Springsteen. Worst Song: Night. I guess never realized that this is how Springsteen's voice sounds. Like he's shouting through a mouthful of peanut butter. Overall: Kinda tough to tell why this album is considered a bit deal.

04/06/2022 I gave it a shot, but I still don't get the acclaim. He sounds... bad.

Meh, nothing special for me.

Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it

No volvería a escucharlo.

did not like listening to this at all

He has a few good songs that evoke some real nostalgia, but overall it isn't for me.

It's alright, but extremely overrated.

I like the music but am having a strong aversion to Bruce Springsteen's voice. He sounds like an old man who used to be a good singer but no longer has the range he used to...and this is during his prime! I've never really listened to "the boss" outside of the ones you hear on the radio over and over and I was shocked how unimpressed I was by his singing

I'm sorry but Bruce just sounds like someone's dad singing karaoke, and trying really hard, in front of a pretty good band

I know this resonates for a lot of people, but doesn't for me. I understand that it is meaningful and moving etc, but it leaves me a little cold. I think it is, for me, a bit overworked. Too successful in its emulation of Phil Spector, but it can hear how hard they worked at it (and they did work hard),. I need a bit more. I listened through, but, honestly, it washes over me every time and I am unmoved.

Very weak album of this legend

I wasn't expecting innovation, but didn't think it would be this uninteresting. Fortunately, doing the hoovering provided a welcome distraction from the repetitive task of listening to this album. 2/5.

Not my favorite.

Maybe I'm a heretic but eh. Just not my jam

Bombast. At least I know know why I didn't like The Boss back in the day...

I'm not supposed to be bored by Springsteen. I am. I'm supposed to like this guy. I don't. Generic rock that I can't remember two minutes after it's over. The title track, "Born to Run", sounds like theme song to an 80s TV show reboot of "Grease". Truly terrible stuff. Whenever I'm constipated, I do my best Springsteen imitation, and it clears my bowels right away.

White dad music. Good noise to have on if you were working on your car in the garage. Sounds like modern Killers. Not for me…

Big instrumentals which can be annoying at times. His vocals are questionable at times as well. I could not get into the album at all.

38. Born to Run - Bruce Springsteen 8 tracks. I was quite looking forward to this but it was a real let-down. Doesn't compare favourably at all to Born in the USA. Bang average is how I would describe it. 2/5

I'll be honest. I think all Bruce Springsteen songs sound exactly the same. This album was no different for me.

okay? i don’t rly like bruce springsteen but the radio hits were okay

As much as I would like to love this album, I can't. Other than the title track and Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, the rest of the album pretty much sounds like the same boring song broken into different tracks.

I liked it okay

Pure boomer tunes, wasn't a fan

Oh they're rated!

The music is fine, but sweet Jesus he has an annoying voice. It’s like Bob Dylan went through a food processor.

Springsteen-Platte? 2

Not a big Bruce fan

I can't get into Springsteen album. Liked a couple of songs 2/5.

I don't buy Bruce as a significant figure in American mythology. It's all so manufactured and engineered to appear authentic. He thinks he's Dylan, but he's not, and I suppose I should applaud the effort, but it's just so damn hard to look past the affected growl and the unbearable saxophones - not to mention the faux-intellectual lyrics. I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would, but I didn't like it, either. He was dad rock when we were kids, so I'm pretty sure that makes him grandpa rock now. Best track: Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out

no thanks x

definitely not my type of music... at least bruce has a nice voice

Not my favourite artist. I knew the name but I don't like the music, it feels a bit outdated to me and not really my style

Vietnam dog flashback meme to 'Nebraska' with that opening harmonica. Having now survived all five of the Boss's albums on this list, I can say his music - or perhaps more appropriately - his strained, raspy growl accompanied by blaring sax and harmonica just isn't for me. I know he doesn't ALWAYS growl, and I know he doesn't ALWAYS have the sax and harmonica (e.g. 'Streets of Philadelphia', 'I'm on Fire', 'Tunnel of Love', etc.); he just too often does. Still, I do like the guy. He's the posterchild for love the artist, hate the art. The anti-Morrissey, if you will. But I've got to keep my rating on this album, and I didn't enjoy any of it other than the title track (which honestly could have been more due to familiarity than anything).

I don’t like this album it feels very repetitive and every song has the same type of feeling

Man for men. Listen one - you’ve listen to them all. Driving your smelly stuffy truck through the dessert

Didn’t fw it, sounded like a song in every bad movie

uuuuuggh idk i dont like his voice... its all just boring... better than born in the usa tho...

Bland. I already got a Springsteen album before - Born In The USA - and that was boring too. This was a bit better but his voice still annoyed me. And the tone of the guitars was a bit flat so the instrumentation just doesn't jump out at me. Only track I thought wasn't bad was "Meeting Across The River"; the sax and Bruce's more sombre delivery was nice. But then I got hit with the 9 minute track "Jungeland". The sax was amazing in it but then he started singing and it all fell apart again. tl;dr - more sax pls 1/5

I just don’t really get it with Bruce Springsteen but go off I guess

Music to get jumped in Newark to.

Absolutely not. Classic rock with Saxophone.... nah 0/10

White noise

basurita de un fisura con plata

Boring and obnoxiously american

"Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" was nice. I liked the variety of instruments.... overall not my thing though

Now this is an album I don’t understand the praise for. Overwrought, overplayed, just irredeemable

Big ass. Terrible voice. Music the same as everyone else at time. Garbage. 0/10 0.00%

Anytime I've heard a Springsteen song covered by someone else I've loved it but I hate his voice so goddamn much I can't bear it and I had to skip through this album ugh sorry

I just don't like his vocals

Felt nothing while listening. It was just boring and somehow sounded nothing like what I thought Bruce did sound like. I'm unsure if this was before or after some of his more popular songs

Did not listen

at least it was over quickly

Not my cup of tea

Classic artist but just not a fan….i feel like his voice is not really that good and the band kinda just carries😭

Honestly no hype in this guy

Not for me

I’m writing this review before his final song even finishes. As a first time listener, Mr Springsteen has disappointed me immensely. This album was Born To Run to the bottom of the barrel.

39 minutes of my life I won't get back. The sax solo on Jungleland in the highlight it doesn't compensate for the grating voval throughout.

Another Springsteen album which sounds like all the rest (expect nebraska, which was good). Not for me.

If it was possible to rate 0 stars, trust me, I would have.

Oude mannen muziek, i dont like…. staat vast in de top2000 oke actually t kon erger, ik dacht gekke country

I didn't like any song of this album, the only positive thing is that is short.

bleugh

Ten out of 10 for enthusiasm and self-belief, and I can appreciate there is a certain poetry in the lyrics, but this music really does nothing for me at all. To me it comes off like a lame musical full of clichéd Americana, describing scenes and reference points I just don't really connect with. Cheesy, over-the-top middle-of-the road soft rock - I don't really see what all the fuss is about, but it is, at least, a better listen than the other Springsteen album I have encountered thus far on this list (Born In The USA).

Hey, at least I left this album with a deeper appreciation for "Jackson Park Express"

I did not expect to have such a negative reaction to this album. I didn't really have much of an opinion on Springsteen before but wow, I didn't like this at all! There's something about the way the music is mixed, his vocal style, and the percussion tempo that makes every song feel like a cheesey rock n roll musical number. It's like pop folk on cocaine driven by the most insufferable boomer you can imagine. The cover however is great, well composed and charming, that's a 4/5.

Didn’t like it at all :(

A mystery only Americans can understand. Dull music, weird muffled sound, crap vocals, overblown lyrics.

I don’t like it and I have no interest for that album that was really annoying for me to listen to it

Wolves and trucks again :) Springsteen comes across as a good guy, a sort of blue-collar poster boy, but his music just doesn’t do it for me. The rock routines feel flat, the sax solos don’t move me, and the forced enthusiasm gets tiring. It’s polished rock made for live-shows, pretty boring.

Gapigt och generiskt

Vėlgi, bruce ne man.

I can't listen to this. Too much noise hammering away at the same time. It's like everyone in the band is screaming "listen to me" while trying to play louder and more frenetically than the guy next to him.

Couldn't get into this one and found it uninspiring musically. Never understood the hype to be honest and still feel the same. Maybe you understand it more if you are American or something?

Seems a bit unamerican but injustice cant get into Bruce Springsteen for some reason.

Infumable

“Tenth Avenue Freeze-out” just wasn’t very good. It’s like weird and folky and big band? Idk how else to explain it. It’s not very punchy. “Backstreets” was repetitive and equally unenjoyable. I find something about it so obnoxious. “Born to Run” equally annoying :(. Not enough bass in the mix.

This album is brutal. I hope his others are better because if this is the best of the Boss, he may be the most overrated artist.

Cringe as hell

Springsteen just sucks ass, man. All of it. He's terrible.

I just hate his voice so much

The only thing I say to help me express why I don't like this album is that its just too.... New Jersey?

aburridisimo

I tried to give this a genuine chance, I've heard many of the songs off this album before since it's undeniably a classic in the sense of how successful and influental it is, but I've long hated Bruce Springsteen and the second his weird, warbly voice kicked in, I instantly had to shut it off. That husky vibrato he does is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

if he’s the boss i quit

not a fan of Bruce Springsteen, songs are too similar to each other, there are like two songs that sound slightly better

I am not a Springsteen fan. This was crap.

Bruce sucks, lets admit it and move on with our lives.

I am not a fan at all. Can't make it through the album.

not for me

Man, I did not like this album. Even the saxophone got old once I realized it was in almost every song. It was his voice more than anything that bothered me. Call me a hater, call me a liar, disagree with me because I know that Bruce Springsteen is a beloved figure, but I really did not like this album, musically.

Not a fan. Too chaotic

Not a fan

Makes me wish I didn’t have ears

Not for me. 1/5

Awful voice. Shit album

Fuck Bruce Springsteen and crotch sliding talentless songwriting. Fucking hack couldn't even get a number one without GOAT Manfredd Mann coming in and carrying his ass.

Running away from this nonsense

Oh no i shit on my shoe, better run.

Thanks, but no thanks, not for me.

If there was ever any question, Bruce Springsteen proves that apparently being able to sing is not a requirement for releasing an album. The musicality of some of his tracks is interrupted by his lackadaisical and groaning vocals, and the only respite at times is a cheesy sax solo.

nah sorry

Unremarkable

I don’t care about this. I don’t like this at all

I've always been stunned that anyone could listen to this paragon of boring, run-of-the-mill rock. Everything is by rote, and nothing that hadn't been done a million times before is attempted.

1. thunder - 1 2. freeze - 1 3. night - 0 4. ztreetz - 1 5. run - 1.5 6. one - 1 7. river - 1 8. jungle - 1

After my 3rd Bruce Springsteen album I've come to the conclusion that The Boss's music is pretty lame.

I can appreciate a few songs, but it's not for me. I'm just not a fan, and I'm having a hard time nailing down exactly why. There are other artists in the same genre that I like. But, alas, not this album.

Album starts with harmonica - straight to gaol. I just don't get the love for Bruce Springsteen at all, maybe its a generational and location thing? I don't find his music engaging - very bland rock to my ears Death to harmonicas

Rather listen to meatloaf

Not for me.

Not my type of music. Couldn’t finish it

Me rehúso a edcuchar más bruce springsteen. 0/10

this album and the one prior to it were headache inducing

every time i see brace for springsteen and bored dylan i kinda wanna automatically skip it, i dont get the appeal at all. clearly he is super acomplished and all, but how, its just lame singersmongwriter ahhhh NNN

No thanks.

My 4th Springsteen album on this list. How many are there going to be? Still not a fan

Not for me. I can not for the life of me understand how this guy is so loved.

sorry boss, I can’t get into it.

I think with Springsteen you have to have been there when this came out or something, because I do not get the appeal of Springsteen's song writing. The way he cobbles together lyrics makes it feel like a jumbled mess to me, and his vocals make him sound confused 90% of the time. I found myself not at all invested in his stories but instead asking myself if ol Bruce even knows what he is rambling about. Did he just get lost in an ally one day and then he came up with this album? That could be, because I'm not getting any serious emotional weight behind these lyrics. This album's sound, musically, is as if Springsteen said "ok everyone just solo however you want and I'll mumble these lyrics over it". And they all said "great idea". I can't imagine the nightmare of mixing this in the studio also. It's a mess.

1 star for writing/composition. sounds like mud bro

Boring . This was one of the worst

I guess I get it, I just didn't like it

Dislike Bruce

I'm adamant no one truly enjoys Bruce Springsteen. They just think people like him so they follow along. It's like that Darren Brown episode where he coerces someone into committing murder via peer pressure alone. The same is true for Eric Clapton. Once people start to realise this basic truth the world will be a much better place.

I cannot stand his vocal style and every song sounds the same

I tried to have an open mind, but I've never been a Springsteen fan

Uninteressanter Pop Rock.

I had never listened to Bruce Springsteen before now, and after hearing this album, I'm glad I didn't. I read on Wikipedia that because of Bruce's perfectionism, this album took a year and a half to finish, but then I hit play and hear right off the bat the guitars are out of tune. So what kind of perfectionism is that? I guess all he did was add as many instruments as he could think of for 18 months, because the tonal instruments were nothing more than a soup of noise, through which not even the drummer's valiant efforts to provide a little structure could be heard. I thought maybe Bruce could salvage the effort with some brilliant songwriting or a compelling vocal performance, but instead he spent each song debasing what I'm sure was otherwise a perfectly nice microphone. Overall, this album is just very noisy and unfocused. Not enjoyable.

I’ve always been vaguely sure I don’t like Springsteen now I know for sure. It all sounds the same and it’s not great. A lot of it is quite bad. Why does the melody in jungleland sound directly ripped from tiny dancer? Why is the title track held in such high regard? And why is one of the e street band members a main character in The Sopranos?

Bruce Springsteen is right up there with the most overrated American artists of all time. I would never choose to listen to his music and do anything I can to avoid it.

nix für mich

I can't even deal with his voice anymore

Struggled to get through it, absolutely vile, jealous of the deaf.

Elk nummer klinkt een beetje hetzelfde

Meeting Across the River has a good sound. The rest... really didn't gel with me. I don't feel like his voice is adding anything to the fairly solid backing band. The lyrics just don't really connect with me. And the songs often don't really feel like they build or have much in the way of dynamics.

I tried to give it a fair shake. Half the songs are about roads. Never uses the tele on the cover.

I dont like country music

Ughhhhh. At least Born to Run is good. This big sound Americana crap is so awful

Stop it with the Bruce now

I hate it (sorry chris)

Meh. Never understood the appeal of Springsteen.

Unless you’re a Springsteen fan the majority of this album fades into obscurity with only 2 stand out songs out of 9. Obviously the title track and thunder road are classic Springsteen but the rest are rather disappointing

What a mess. Not in a hot crazy girl kind of way, I wouldn't even want 15 minutes in the pub loos with this album. I continue to be dumfounded by his success.

Boring and overrated

Yeah, this is my second album from "The Boss" on this list. What a fucking joke. This is so god awful unlistenable and horrible. There is nothing to this other than just an overly rushed ramble through some shitty song. Get this guy out of here. I'm sure there are even more of his albums on this list, so I have that disappointment to look forward to.

The musical equivalent of a root canal, complete with a voice that sounds like a dentists drill. 🦷

Respect to the man but not a bit of me

It always amazes me that the same person who wrote "Because The Night" and the "Nebraska" album can create so much utter dross.

didnt really have any songs i like, but the guitars q solid

Not sure which I like less, the banging piano notes or the shrill sax.

hate springstein
