Reviews (page 11 of 13)
good album, not something that I have listened to before. An ok album, one that I might listen to again but probably won't go out of my to find. Won't buy it either. Again, not bad but just not my cup of tea
Coming into this after the live album is interesting. I always thought Bob Dylan was more Folk and less Blues which was only exacerbated by my introduction being that live album. At any rate, I'm just not as interested in the band accompaniment with him. I listened to some older stuff as well and found it's more solo and Folk-oriented. This one is still Dylan, so there are definitely highlights, but in my opinion it's just not as good as him on his own.
After like 5 songs it was enough
Sorry Bob this wasn’t for me. The over use of the harmonica was slightly jarring and the country was just hard to listen to. I do, however, like Dylan’s voice and his way of story telling. I found it charming, but just find it hard to look past the genre. Sorry.
Add one star for harmonica Bob Dylan is like the opposite of what I like in an artist. I don’t really listen to lyrics, and I’d rather not listen to his singing either
Why does Dylan need to rev up into every syllable? It’s like someone taught a lawnmower to sing. He may be a great lyricist… it’s just a shame that his lyrics are trapped behind the paywall of his voice. I don’t find the music very compelling, which is another barrier to my appreciation. I can appreciate that this album was significant for its time. It was influential, which perhaps is going to buoy its rating, and I have no doubt it would have hit my ears differently had I been alive 60 years ago. I just don’t find myself liking it.
I'm sure this was revolutionary for the lobotomized housewives of 1965 but I can't stand this guy's voice
I’m so sick of bob dylan please stop recommending him *harmonica solo*
That’s a lot of harmonica. I’m not a big fan of his voice, a bit too whiny. Some very long songs as well made it a bit of a difficult listen at points
Yeah definitivamente Dylan no es para mi. No es malo, pero meh me aburre
72 minutes are you fucking kidding me? I don't care for this at all. I hate harmonica and there's absolutely fucking shit loads of it here. Vocals are really bad. Not a melody in sight. I guess it's not bad for what it is, but my tolerance for folk music is loooooooooooooooow. Actually might be my least favourite genre of music.
meh, I don't fuck with Bob Dylan. 2 stars.
All Dylan's albums sound like one big song
Man I’m sorry but I simply can’t. I get why this is important and there’s no denying that Dylan was a great lyricist but I just find folk music grating. I also really wish his lyrical style varied like… at all.
Pa los gustos los colores pero meh
It all sounds the same. Bob’s vocal cadence got to me at the halfway mark. DNF.
- Nice upbeat music - Some of it is quite grating, almost like carnival music
I got two songs in. I realised there was a reason why I didn't listen to alot of Bob Dylan.....
Too long. Songs were long. I only knew Rainy Day Women #12 and 35 and that was the first song on the album which was over an hour long. It just went on for too long.
This album was quite slow, which I didn't particularly enjoy
I have never understood the mystery of Bob Dylan’s success and the types of accolades hit and his music have garnered. To be honest though I had never given one of his albums a true listen so I was ready to be enlightened by what many consider his one of his best. The truth is I finished it more baffled than ever by it. To start with, and this is a fucking big one, his voice is wretched to nigh on unlistenable in almost every context. The songs that seemed to even come close to befitting his tone were the straight forward blues numbers that show nothing of his much acclaimed songwriting ability. Then, about that, the songs that are more typical Bob Dylan are mostly unremarkable to annoying. There are a couple of interesting bridges, but nothing approaching groundbreaking. And not to be overlooked is the liberal use of the harmonica. At the risk of being inflammatory, the harmonica is not a serious instrument. It’s a toy. And as such it is second only to the kazoo in the obnoxiousness of its sound. For the most part all the songs it’s featured in can be dismissed. The white boy blues jams can be forgotten. What’s left are a couple few classic rock jams. So what’s the appeal?! The only thing I will cede him is his lyrics have the potential to be intriguing. They’re always creating fantastic worlds, eclectic characters, and are full of interesting turns of phrase, “…where the moon light sins…” However the voice they are delivered with and their setting leave a lot to be desired.
I went through a Dylan phase. I listened to most of his catalog. I’m no longer in a Dylan phase. This record and others on which Dylan adopted his “Dylan voice” are fairly unpleasant listening experiences now. This album, like most of his albums, if for people that think his lyrics are profound poetry. It seems more like he makes words and phrases fit based on rhymes instead of really saying anything. And does every damn song need 11 verses? It’s just not my thing.
I understand he is a great songwriter, and influenced many people but god damn is he a boring singer.
I hate his voice. Just dragged on and on.
Groovy ass rockabilly men inte bra för de
Most overrated artist of all time
Eh, just ok, eventually my brain just tuned it out.
How much Bob Dylan is too much Bob Dylan? This much Most of the songs are ok, but I was desperate for it to end. The last song was the lowlight
I like Bob Dylan just as much as anyone but there is such a thing as too much Bob Dylan
um, this guy just needs to stfu with this loud ASS HARMONICA. it is actually, painful at times and i fear i may now need an eardrum reconstruction. i love fourth time around! but this is an album review, not a fourth time around review so 2/5 also, why is it when he sings 'just like a woman' it feels so...creepy? but when jeff buckley does it, it feels beautiful? i fear this opinion will only fuel the incel community.
I'd only ever heard two Bob Dylan songs before this, at least that I know of, and one of them I loved (I actually didn't even know it was him for the longest time). The other one I thought was fine. However, I can't say that I really liked any of these. The instrumentation was fine, but once Dylan started singing it went downhill for me. He just sounds so smug and I found it incredibly annoying.
Yuck
I ser the reviews of this album and the majority of people that liked this album are people that’s already knew about it. And I think they only liked it because of nostalgia, because it is really boring, it just sounds like and old album recorded so long ago.
not a fan, i'm sorry... i wasn't able to give it my full attention either
actually pmo his voice is so ridiculously cartoonishly annoying and im sorry but i literally dont understand why people laud him like the second coming of Jesus harmonica-playing christ
Конечно, для многих Боб Дилан легенда и кумир, и его голос узнаваем, своеобразный символ Америки 60-х - 70-х годов. Но мне его музыка никак не заходит.
Not really my cup of tea
2.5/10
No. I get that Dylan is a big deal, but i just don’t get him. Maybe if I read his lyrics as poetry it may say something to me, but listening to that voice just makes my arse twitch. So it’s a no from me, 1 for the album and 1 for his artistry
Nostalgia brought this to a 2 for me, even owning this CD I couldn't make it really through this. Yeah Bob Dylan is a wonderful songwriter but sticking with a generous 2 here.
I can't stand listening to Bob Dylan's voice. It hits me like an ice pick to the ear drum. That being said, the band is doing lots of interesting stuff (though the descending chromatic motif gets old after it shows up in a half-dozen songs). So, the band saves this from being 1 star. I'll go 2 stars.
I'm not saying Bob Dylan is a bad artist/not talented, but I feel like his job is so easy. Learn some chords on the guitar and some harmonica gigs and just speak into a microphone
The album cover sufficiently prepared me for how beige this album this.
bob dylan não é pra mim
not my vibe, couldnt get into it
It's OK, not my bag though. Harmonica is a bit annoying at times
long but not as horrific as i expected
Goede teksten, maar muziek te chaotisch voor mij
man, this was an absolute slog to get through. i know it's iconic and monumental and whatever, but it's also boring as hell, filled with some of bob's most annoying vocals and harmonica solos, and only one minute shorter than the entire disney movie oliver & company. i'd rather be watching that. reading the wikipedia summary only made me more frustrated. "It was one of the first double albums in rock music." which, while technically true, was absolutely a mistake that we're all still paying for to this day. favorites: the first few seconds of rainy day women #12 & 35 when i thought it was the same drum pattern of "they're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!", i want you, and just like a woman
Another album that would be much better if sung by someone who could at the bare minimum hold a tune.
He sounds like he’s dying. Enjoyed pretending I was a cowboy from the Wild West, but otherwise, meh
Album OK, but washed over me. Wouldn't be tempted to listen to again. Quite generic 60's blues for most of it
Classic Dylan.
61. meh
Partially known. Sometimes I almost get it.
Some potential in the melodies, but just don't understand a singer who can't sing.
Too much harmonica
If there is one thing I don’t need to hear before I die, it’s Bob fucking Dylan. 1.5/10
not for me
Dreadful vocals coupled with jarring harmonicas results in a painful listen. Like a lot of stuff on this list so far, a couple of tracks would sound ok on their own, but 72 minutes of nasal whining isn't enjoyable to me.
Just generally kind of atonal & same-y…?
I think you can really only do bob dylan in small doses. It's alright.
Boring. A worthy inclusion once but the collective delusion that Bob Dylan is the finest of the 20th century needs to be studied…
The voice is just too much... I can do a few mins but not an hour
this platform is insistent that i listen to every single bob dylan album, huh. i really don't like bob dylan. i don't like his weird voice. he sounds like mr burns reading slam poetry. every time i hear that harmonica my ears bleed. no more. no more. i'm growing weary the more i listen to him.
Not everything Dylan touched was gold…
I don’t have any history with Dylan. Obviously I’ve heard some of his hits, but that’s about it. Worse, I’m not a lyrics guy. Unless I’m very actively listening, I don’t typically pick up on lyrics, and I feel like Dylan is famous as a lyricist first. Anyway, all that is to say, this isn’t really to my taste. I find his vocal style grating. Some interesting things musically, and listening to the Strong Songs episode “A Bob Dylan’s Beginner’s Guide,” it’s fascinating to hear that people followed his live recordings like a jam band. But for me, this was only a 4/10, “Acceptable”
too much harmonica
Harmonica has got to be the most obnoxious instrument. Although honestly it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so intrusive. Every time the harmonica comes in, it is the loudest thing on the album. If it wasn't so loud I probably wouldn't mind as much. Besides the harmonica, I overall don't care too much for this album. I really can't decide if I hate Dylan's voice. I tried to focus more on the lyrics, but his voice just takes me out of it. I recognized Stuck Inside of Mobile from the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Also I was like "I know I've heard of a leopard skin pillbox hat before" and it's because Death Grips used the reference in a song title. If anything, I appreciate getting the chance to listen to this album, regardless of my personal preference.
Не моё
This was long and it all sounded the same. Bob Dylan songs sound the best when performed by other people.
Bob Dylans music has never really worked for me and this album didn't change that. I understand many people praise his writing but that has mostly been secondary to me when listening to music so maybe that explains why.
langweilig
Lazy mood

I'm usually a big Bob Dylan fan, so I was excited to see this today. It's one of the few Dylan albums that I hadn't listened to before starting this project. Imagine my surprise when I press play and I am greeted with potentially the worst opening track I've heard in my life. To be fair, things did get better after that, and I added quite a few songs to my library. Even with that, though, none of these songs are anywhere close to the caliber that I've come to expect from Dylan. In all actuality, this album is probably a 3/5 for being simply average. However, I'm giving it a 2 because of my sheer bitterness and disappointment.
Enjoyable as background music, not really into it.
avant écoute : je sens ça va être la même vibe qu’hier… après écoute : encore moins bien qu’hier, heureusement je lisait en même temps 🧍🏾♀️
I couldn’t get through it. It’s time to be honest with myself and those around me.. I just don’t like Bob Dylan
I couldn’t get through it. Respect the game, but Dylan is not for me.
Paljon huuliharppua ei mun makuun 2/5
Not super into it
1/2 Music itself was okay but nothing really stood out to me. I don't like Bob Dylan's voice
4/10
Bob is good but I’m not the biggest fan of his voice/sound. But I can appreciate the talent
He definitely had a style but the poignancy didn’t hit in this album and it got boring towards the end.
Not really my thing. Too much harmonica and the vocals were not it.
not my cup of tea. makes my ears hurt
Bob Dylan sucks. Can't believe I listened to this for as long as I did. Couldn't even finish it. His voice is so irritating, lyrics are basic, it's just boring.
His cadence drives me nuts.
Me estresó su voz ajajaja
12/23/25. Typically not a huge Bob Dylan guy but did enjoy this one. Not sure if this counts as his "electric" era or whatever it is, but enjoyed the blues elements and his singing style on here.
I found this boring
The way he sings just doesn’t do it for me.
bob dylan stinks
I didn't listen to the whole album, at first I was like ugh wth is this but some of the songs I enjoyed they were more fast or like layered ig, I'm not sure id listen again but it wasn't bad you know
I really loved H61 when I got it a couple weeks ago, so was looking forward to this, but oof... it's all just kinda a drag isn't it? And I'm not anti-harmonica, but this was SO MUCH harmonica. A few pleasant songs, and the lyricism is surely as strong as anyone can expect from Bob Dylan, but for me I need the music itself to actually be enjoyable to listen to as well.
Just like a woman is pretty good and I want you, but gosh, he really knows how to make the album look incredibly long, and sure, he's a poet and a storyteller, but he also has this super distinctive way of singing that I do not like at all.
The instrumentals are fine, quite catchy actually, but I can't for the life of me stand his voice/singing technique.
ngl didn’t like much of it but one or two songs
i hated it. i don’t like bob dylan’s voice. i will give it points for the impressive harmonica sound but that’s it
Worst album so far. Still hate his voice.
12/8/25 Total listens: ~5 1st listen notes: Good, would prob really like it with repeat listens; Liked "Woke Up This Mornin'" immediately Overall notes: Good introduction to blues, book blurb mentioned this was an example of him being a consummate performer & I can see that in this live recording
Bloody dull. Sorry.
Not the biggest Dylan fan, especially when it comes to albums. But I can more than appreciation his influence and contribution to the music world. Couple standouts from this guy including my favorite, “I Want You”.
Whilst I can see the charm of folksy story telling, it has some (to me) annoying instrumentation.
3.3/10
what in the SNL skit was that. Going into the album I was excited because I had never listened to him specifically and there is clearly a lot of hype... the hype was not for folks like me. His voice was so irritating to me that if there were profound lyrical skills, I couldn't catch them. The harmonica was kind of fun, brought it up to a low 2.
ffs
Is it the era or is there something else intrinsically annoying about BD and specifically this album ?
Alternating mumbled lyrics and harmonica that hits your ear like an ice pick. Imagine if Aimee Mann was a beatnik who couldn't sing so good and you're almost there.
his voice is lowk infernal but the backing tracks are great
I love you Bob but I’m going to beat you over the head with that damn harmonica
So much harmonicaaaa. I'm not into the super bluesy sound.
I don’t get the hype. Okay album, but why on this list? Mediocre wire dude
I dunno, it's not horrible but it's really not my thing.
I am really trying here. I swear. But I really can’t get into Dylan’s stuff. There’s too many of the things I don’t like: harmonicas and his voice.
4.6 boring but decent
I'm sorry. I know it's sacrilege, but I just can't deal with this dude's voice.
Klassisk Bob Dylan, der har sat meget retning for nyere musik, men ikke et album jeg ville sætte på
Would not choose to listen to this, it's interesting, but not enjoyable.
Fine. Easy listening but nothing I found to be remarkable
Was ok to listen to
I really wanted to rate this higher. Bob Dylan is widely known as one of the greatest songwriters to ever live... And yet I can't help but think of that Bob Dylan appreciation timeline/bell curve meme: "Bob Dylan sucks" ... "Bob Dylan is the greatest songwriter of all time, he captures the human experience so perfectly in a way that nobody had done before or since" ... "Bob Dylan sucks" (Sorry, hard to do a visual meme justice in a text review) Bob Dylan is great to listen to - whenever I feel self-doubt about my singing ability. If he can sing like that and be that massively successful, my voice is just great! I might have pushed this up to a 3... Until the last track went on for an agonising nearly 12 minutes. Too much, Bob. Just too much.
Hate his voice, should’ve just been a song writer in my opinion
One of the first double LP rock albums. I get he went emotional and a bit more ambigeous with metaphors and poetic lyrics. Still, I'm sorry Bob Dylan, but your flowery albums are safe. And thus, boring as shit.
felt kinda neutral about this
Admittedly not what I expected, which would have been a pithy assortment of chords and wandering sprechstimme. There's some catchy tunes/arrangements in here. That said, my listening never really concerns itself with lyrics, and I know that's Dylan's forte, so a lot of this went right past me. Not really sure what makes this album special. I suspect it's the obvious, it's Bob Dylan. As the prophet Watto once said: "Republic credits are no good here, I need something more real. Mind tricks don't work on me." Two stars. Not deplorable, not outstanding in any way.
An absolute gauntlet. It would be much more palatable if the singer didn’t see fit to put on his best goblin impression at random points throughout the album, most notably at the beginning. One of the clearest examples of alright to good instrumentation being utterly annihilated by an alternative idea of singing,
I can’t hear Bob Dylan without thinking of the people of SNL doing impressions of Bob Dylan. He’s a great lyricist but not my type of music
Not much to say that I haven't already said about Dylan. Great songwriting. Descent music. Terrible vocals. And to top it off, it's a double album, so the nasal vocals just keep going.
God I hate his voice so much
Bouncy voice
Didn't love it. I just can't get down with Dylan most days.
I understand the cultural importance of Bob Dylan, but his music doesn't resonate with me well. I don't like how his voice sounds when he sings, and the harmonica gets old very quickly especially when sustaining a single note. There are some decent songs on the album though.
Didn't like Bob Dylan when they made us listen in high school, haven't really changed my mind.
I don’t hate Bob Dylan but I think a whole album of him can get grating after a while. I can enjoy his hits but I didn’t really like this one as it went on
I've always thought I'm missing something with Dylan. He's fine but I just don't get the pedestal he's put on.
Phew, he really gets on my nerves. I tried again, but I don't like Dylan's music or his voice. I could hardly stand even the most popular songs on the album. At least I listened to a few songs. With other "artists," even that wasn't possible. 2/5
Some people have a genetic predisposition that makes cilantro taste like soap to them. I think I have a genetic predisposition that makes Dylan's music sound terrible to me. As part of my due diligence as a music fan & critic, I bought Blonde on Blonde on CD 20+ years ago. I listened to it once and never played it again, and now I remember why: I kind of hate it. While I respect Dylan's place in the pantheon of popular music, I was checking how much time was left by track three. (Answer: too long.)
Lowkey rambling.
1: A toddler could do better rhyming than this - harmonica is one of the instruments of all time. 2: Harmonica solo.... 3: Not bad start., was doing so well until the harmonica appeared. Bit long.
This album was an exercise in understanding that there is such a thing as too much harmonica. Tough listen
Partly felt too soon for more Bob Dylan. None of the tracks on this one really stood out for me and felt a bit long winded
Meh
Because I had to catchup from the weekend albums I ended up with two Dylan albums on a Monday. Just don't really like Dylan, and I don't really care for the lyrics much either. Sorry.
Not a Dylan fan and this album reminded me why I'm not. This album. The first time I heard it, didn't care for it. 20-ish years later, it didn't improve.
S-7/10 M-1/10
As much as I want to like Bob Dylan, I just can’t.
-probably his worst album -singing wasn’t good -overbearing harmonica -didn’t like any of the songs
Better than expected but not for me
I like Bob Dylan, but I really don't like the sound of the harmonica.
Look I'm sure that Bob Dylan's lyrics are great but I genuinely cannot get past his voice. I just do not like the way he sings
2* mędzenie
I recently watched the biopic 'A Complete Unknown' starring Timothée Chalamet, depicting the early career of Bob Dylan. The movie portrayed him to be a superficial, self centered uninteresting character, which is further reinforced when I listen to his uninteresting music delivered via a grating, nasal and off-key voice. Only the 'much too frequent' use of the fucking harmonica had me begging for his singing to return to the albums tracks.
It was very DYLAN and he really SINGs in a STErEO-TYpICAL waYY Didn't love it
a prime example of good songs in search of a better singer.
Don't care for Bob Dylan. Lots of harmonica
questionable? not super into bob dylan
Music for young cowboys
i don’t like his voice and that’s on me and my ears. First time I have ever listened to a whole album, as I rarely make it through more than a song of his. Some really cool lyrics for me though
Bit shit. Maybe if I read the lyrics I'd like it more but I'd rather read something else
Too speak songs voice for me
What is it with this guy?
i dont think he knows how to play the harmonica
Not a fan of his singing style
Surprised by how little I enjoyed this. Lyrics are good and some solid tracks—but my man, if your voice sounds like that you can’t also be absolutely blaring mediocre harmonica. If the point of an album is to make enjoyable sounds, then shouldn’t your sound be good?
That was definitely a Bob Dylan album.
BRO! back-to-back bob dylan IS NOT the move. think this album has 'Stuck Inside of Mobile...' song though. edit: i listened to it wholly, but wasn't impressed. i'm not saying he's not a good song write, i just can only handle the voice so much...
I think the only reason people like Bob Dylan is because of the time. Like if I was stuck in the 60's and he was on, i guess i would suffice listening to him (even though jazz at that time >>>>>>>>). The more of him i listen to, the more i dislike it esp that ANNOYING HARMONICA PLZ REMOVE IT.
I can respect the poetry of the lyrics. Just not a Dylan fan, although I can tolerate the more folky earlier stuff.
Interesting, first bob Dylan listen, Thought I would like his vocals more than I did to be fair. Sound was a alright just didn't like his singing very much
Would’ve probably been more positive towards it if it was shorter but it’s 73 minutes of acoustic-ish music that I’m not really feeling. Harmonica is always fun though.
A couple thoughts about Bob Dylan: 1. If you're going to use a fucking harmonica so much, shouldn't you be decently good at it? I mean Jesus Fucking Christ, I could practice for a week and play every single line on this album. 2. Unfortunately it seems I belong to the camp of hating-Bob-Dylan's-stupid-fucking-grating-voice. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. But if you're a singer-songwriter -- like, if that's your whole schtick -- shouldn't you be able to fucking sing? At all? Holy mother of God this guy's voice is annoying. 3. I get that the appeal of Bob Dylan is supposed to be that he's a "poet." Like woooooow, forget the music, but listen to those lyrics though. Fuck you. They're decent. It's not fucking Shakespeare. Two stars because I can appreciate that this at least took some level of musical ability and intellect. But Jesus man. Fuck you Bob Dylan. Fave songs: - One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) - Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
I mean look, I don't really care for Dylan. I think I've said it before: he sounds like a parody of himself.
Think I would have enjoyed this more if I just read the lyrics on their own, which were especially good in sad-eyed lady of the lowlands. I find the actual musicianship uncompelling in modern listening formats, the harmonica is pretty grading. Still need to watch A Complete Unknown
Ugh, I think I just really don't like Bob Dylan's sound
coisas que eu não senti saudade nenhuma nesse site: bob dylan
This album is very long! Perhaps I wasn’t in the mood but found this a real slog.
Too much harmonica for my liking. I like rock but this isn’t up to my alley, can appreciate and jiggy to it a little though, but something about Bob’s enunciation… I can’t get around.
Veit akkurat hvor jeg vil putte det jævla munnspillet
I’d rather chew tin foil for 1hr 12mins
haven't even got past the first song and the tambourine can't even stay in tempo, wtf?
I did not like this album because the lyrics was weird, and i did not like his voice.
Sick of bob dylan. Two BD albums in one week is too mandy
This is one of his more annoying sounding albums
Pre-listening thoughts: oh brother here we go again. I’m about to get sick of Bob Post/during listening thoughts: okay so this solidified my previous opinion that we don’t need more than one Bob Dylan album on the generator. They all sound. The same. Like nearly freaking identical. That stupid ass organ and that fuckass harmonica just will not go away 😭😭😭. I’m about to give this a two just cause I’m mad that this took up a spot on the list. 4/10 DID I NEED TO HEAR THIS BEFORE I DIE: NO Fav tracks: I want you Least fav tracks: any time that stupid stupid harmonica made an appearance
the least offensive dylan
"I Want You" feels like Bob Dylan doing a Neil Young song. IDK, overall I'm a Dylan fan but this was a grind today aside from Memphis Blues Again.
Sorry but not sorry. This is boring as fuck
the harmonica is not my instrument of choice
Hate Dylan's vocals. Never understood the appeal. This is a modicum better than some of his more acoustic folksy albums but still nothing I ever want to listen to again if I can avoid it.
I'm having trouble standing his voice but I did like Most Likely You Go Your Way (and I'll go mine).
Har klart meg heile livet uten
baum. mas n o melhor. 2.5/5
NO
chato pra caralho
I like alot of the Bob Dylan songs, just not these. These seem very early in his career (Not sure if they are) but they sound very whiney. Not a fan
Nee.
The most impressive part of this album was the harmonica work, not my favourite Dylan.
Not my cup of tea 😔
It's just too much Dylan for me
I really like fun, upbeat Dylan. I'm hit or miss on slow Dylan. I absolutely hate mid-tempo, drawn out word, list of random things he happens to be looking at when writing the song Dylan. This album has them all, but not enough of the fun songs to make the others worth it. There's probably a single album's worth of material here that would get a 4 from me, but the double gets a 2. drawn-to-listen-to: many covers of Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again (Grateful Dead, North Mississippi Allstars, Old Crow Medicine Show, Cat Power, so many more)
Pre: I know this album, it's a classic, probably a 4 star review. Easy. Post: "Bringing It All Back Home" and "Highway 61 Revisited" are WAY better Bob Dylan albums than Blonde on Blonde. How in the world did I think this album was so good. The only song worth mentioning is "Stuck Inside of Mobile..." and the fact that Al Kooper's Hammond organ playing is so damn good throughout this album. Not nearly as memorable as I'd thought. One to skip if you're not a huge Bob Dylan fan. Go check out the other two albums instead they both hold up quite a bit better than Blonde on Blonde
Sorry the voice and harmonica doesn't do it for me
Sok szájharmónika, nem tetszett az éneklése
Blonde on Blonde is OK. I think the more complex instrumentation actually takes away from the core of Dylan's ability -- strong story telling poetry over a guitar. Two star.
I can’t stand Dylan’s voice and strange inflection he uses when singing. It takes what would be fine songs and drags them down in my opinion.
I don't believe in Dylan...
I 've always though Dylan was way overated. I even went to see him about 15 years ago in Beijing and hos total lack of generosity toward the public made me dislike him too as a person. Well what he's recognised for is songwriting, poetry (not sure his litterature Nobel prize is deserved though, but Ombama got the Nobe Peace...). And he sure does write some very good texts. Some very good songs too. Look: All along the watch towers (Hendrix made me love this song), Like a rolling stone, Knok on a Heaven's door.. great songs when they are played by others. Because what I am not found of is his orchestration and his voice (and his ego). Songs like I want you is nice, because the melody is backed by the guitar; taking over where the voice should. I won't listen the whole album again. Well a bit harsh on the monument, but only because it was built too high in my opinion.
The icon who, for some reason, represents boomer’s pinnacle of musical poetry. Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Only two octaves to his name and a damn harmonica he somehow manages to play without using his hands. Where most hear the “rock era” of the master, for me only “Stuck Inside of Mobile…”, “Obviously Five Believers”, and “I Want You” (which my hippie aunt used to blast on loop when I was a kid) ever managed to break the weak blues and folk monotony. I’ve managed to reach the end of Blonde on blonde without too much suffering.
Knowing Bob Dylan is so well known, I was expecting a lot more. Definitely feels like a product of its time, and maybe if I grew up with it I could appreciate more, but the signing is just tedious. some good instrumentals but the singing is just too distracting.
Dylan croons nonsense over soulful harmonica.
2.5
Listened 4/7/2025. Not into the folk stuff and his voice.
Not my thing. Didn’t associate bob Dylan with that voice, guess I’m disconnected. Will have to research later about his importance; a bit too grassroots and redneck-y for my taste but I’m sure he paves the road in some way for what music is today
2.1 I don't get it! I just don't! With those touted the 'best ever albums' I usually understand, if not ultimately agree with, why they've been selected. But this makes no sense to me. What's particularly confusing is that I actually view The Freewheelin' as one of the best ever albums. Then after a few years he just spun off into pretty underwhelming rock/blues, with his voice almost a caricature of his younger self. And yet it's these albums that get all the acclaim. Make it make sense. It's shite, it's bloated, it's rambling, he sounds like a pissed Bob Dylan cover act
Yeah I don't think I like Bob actually.
I know. I get it. I'd probably enjoy an all-covers version of this album. But maybe not that much.
Some attempts at fun but there's a smugness in those efforts as though he's above it.
Гармошка)
If there was just one Bob Dylan to check out before you die it would definitely be Highway 61 Revisited or even Freewheelin’ Bob Dylan over this one. It has some cool songs like Visions Of Johanna but also the painful circus fanfare of Rainy Day Women #12 & #35 which opens up the album in spectacularly horrid fashion and the album over its course does drone on a bit and is very padded. A lot of samey, below-par tunage such as Pledging My Time and nearly all of sides C and D in fact with the stompier Obviously 5 Believers the only real keeper. Overall, obviously not 5 stars.
Generally not a fan of the type of blues-rock-country style of music that's predominant on this record. I found the overt use of the harmonica quite hard to listen to and Dylan's voice took some getting used to. Once I got past the first 3-4 songs I could appreciate the album a bit more. The vivid storytelling and wordplay on 'Stuck Inside of Mobile...' stuck out the most to me throughout the album. In general the lyrics I picked up on while listening seemed like the most interesting part of the record, although I have to admit I didn't spend too much time properly reading them. I know this is supposedly one of the greatest albums of all time, it just doesn't seem to catch me.
I’ve tried. I just can’t. Bob Dylan does absolutely nothing for me. I’ve had this album on CD for decades from an earlier attempt to understand the “greatness” and I’ve simply never been impressed. Next!
Ugh.
Almost a 3 but too many bob dylan weird lyrics and bob dylan singing...
It's hard for me to evaluate this one because there's just nothing in this album that appeals to me. No hate to Dylan's writing or vocals, but I don't care much for them; and the instruments are... there... I can't say there's anything offensive about Blonde on Blonde (aside from maybe the occasional ear-piercing harmonica parts—not all of them are, just most...), but there's also nothing I love about it. There are a couple of songs here that I would consider decent (namely, Memphis Blues Again, which is quite good, actually), but apart from that, It's a bit of a slog and pretty underwhelming for me since my music taste is too far from this. 5/10
why does he sound like that
Certified not a bob Dylan enjoyer
First? 3 /5 Again? 1,5 /5
Best Song: Visions of Johanna. The kind of evocative songwriting and delivery at which Dylan can excel. Worst Song: Leopard-Skin-Pill-Box Hat. He's just talking over a standard blues progression. Overall: He's really bluesy here, which isn't a great look for him. Maybe I've grown fatigued of all the Dylan, but I find it difficult to get excited about anything on this album.
Звучит как американское кантри. Мне не понравилось. Для меня это была слишком медленная музыка, а губная гармошка действовала на нервы.
mid
I've always liked his name most about him. Not my favorite Bobby D album
How much harmonica can a person endure?
not my cup of tea, but a good start
**A boring album, most tracks sound alike. Vocals raspy and horrible.
I think where Bob Dylan truly shines is in his lyricism. He evokes a lot of beautiful and memorable imagery in his songs. It's just a darn shame that his voice gets a bit on the nerves after listening to over an hour of it, and some of the songs on Blonde against Blonde felt like they were stretched out unhealthily. The country vibes are not for me.
Well that was pretty boring. His voice sounds like Thomas the tank engine grew up, got drunk after his wife left him, and decided to record an album.
over the last 30 years I've tried to get the Dylan mystique and it has not happened. Is Dylan a better vocalist than famously anti-singer vocalist Leonard Cohen? no. Is Dylan a better songwriter than Leonard Cohen? debatable, but I like Nick Cave and Jennifer Warnes covers of Cohen better than any non-Hendrix Dylan cover i've heard. Maybe I'd be more sympathetic to Dylan's schtick if Brel, Cohen and Scott Walker didn't exist, but they do, and I still don't get why this dude became the standard bearer instead of, I dunno, Mimi Farina.
The first few songs are a crime against my ears. Kinda mid after that. Leopard-skin pillbox hat is funny. 2 stars, but only because there are a few decent songs
It feels like the entire album is just one long song with very little variation. I can take Dylan in small chunks.
Something is off with this album. Bob needs the lo-fi aesthetic to blend better with his vocal abilities. That way it’s easier to focus on the intent of the song. This album had a high fidelity sound which did not compliment his voice. Couldn’t be taken seriously and would need multiple listens to break through this listening barrier.
Honestly I can’t get past Dylan’s voice… no mistaking the instrumentation quality though
Man sings like he’s walking on uneven ground blindfolded.
I thought I’d recognise these songs but I did not.
Honestly shocked at how much I didn't enjoy this. I've always known his name but never really dove into anything of his. I don't enjoy his vocals and the use of the harmonica is super over powering.
I don't really care for Bob Dylan. I think he's a good songwriter, but I don't love listening to his stuff performed by him.
Eto. 2/5, 3/10.
not a big fan tbh
I just can’t with Bob Dylan and I almost feel the need to apologise for it. He just goes on and on and his voice does nothing for me. Another one in the ‘would have made a great poet’ brigade’ for me along with Joni Mitchell, Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen
harmonica, plz stop
OK, I guess. Not his greatest hits.
This album has a lot of potential as the instrumentation is genuinely very good and the lyrics are mostly good wirh a few notable exceptions. Bob Dylan’s voice however is borderline intolerable for most of this album. He is somehow never fully in key and the three songs I saved are ones where his vocal range is the narrowest and his glaring deficiencies as a singer are masked.
A lot more rock and roll than I was expecting, which was a pleasant surprise, but the album is too long and I won’t actively seek out any of the songs to listen again.
Probably my least favourite from Bob so far
2/5 voice wasnt for me
Will this be the first Bob Dylan album to not get 3 stars??? Yep! 2 stars this time! It’s so boring. Who cares if the lyrics are great if the music is unlistenable. I’m sorry but there’s a difference between a songwriter and a poet. Bro is the latter more than the former. Because he’s fucking bad at writing hooks.
I enjoyed the instrumentation, minus the harmonica on some songs. That's it for the positives; Bob Dylan's formulaic song structure, meaningless lyrics, and drone-like delivery left me longing for a majority of the songs to end. Glad to be through with this one.
I just can’t get over his annoying voice tbh. It’s like Beatles if they couldn’t sing and had a harmonica 2/5
Unimpressed :/
65% Best: I Want You; Just Like a Woman; Absolutely Sweet Marie; Obviously Five Believers Must-Hear? Uhh no, I'll pass. Dylan is overrated AF
Not for my trainings vibe yesterday
Pretty one dimensional album and not gonna lie 'just like a woman' is a pretty rough song. Also, way too long and all sounds the same.
I couldn’t get past the third song or so. I just don’t think bob Dylan is for me
Bob Dylan made important contributions to music and he was very talented, unfortunately his music really isn’t for me
I feel like I’ve come a bit full circle on Mr Dylan. Having never listened to an album before this list and with a general assumption I didn’t like his music. I’ve been won over by ‘Bring it back…’ and ‘Blood in the tracks’ was OK. However, this one just sounds exactly like what I thought he sounded like before this whole exercise began, and I don’t care for it. Just all a bit slow (and some songs just too long) and samey, and with too many of my least favourite vocal inflection traits. I’m guessing there will be another one on the list. Guess that’s gonna decide my long-term view…..
Oh no... not more Dylan. I wonder if his moaning, disguised as singing, has peaked on this record? 'I Want You' is a very good song, and the 'Stuck Inside The Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again' is good as well, but the rest is... ok I guess? If it wasn't for his crappy singing this would've gotten 3 stars, but that just drags it down for me.
So much harmonica
Alright. Pretty chill. Very story teller vibes.
If I wanted to like this artist I probably had to have been alive at the time. Lyrically quite talented and realized. Everything else is meh at best. I've seen him live and felt the same way. I wish I could see what so many others do because I have to admit that they seem to find him captivating.
Albumi #104, 09.11.2024 Bob Dylanin suuruutta etenkään levyttävänä artistina en ole koskaan ymmärtänyt. Muutamia hienoja kuolemattomia biisejä, mutta laulajana Dylan on yhdentekevä. Blonde On Blonde on Dylanin seitsemäs albumi vuodelta 1966 ja samalla yksi parhaimmaksi arvioitu. Ei vaan tipu mulle. Ei vaikka miten yritän.
not a Dylan fan
Harmonica is officially my least favorite instrument.
I just can’t with this man.
I can't get over his weird wheezy voice. The music itself seems well constructed and thoughtful, but I will never be a fan. Sorry y'all.
Less revolutionary listening to it now compared to when I listened to it the first time when I was 16 or 17. Still some good Dylan at least. Couldn't decide between 2 and 3 stars. Settled on a 2 since I felt like I probably wont listen to this again for another 20ish years.
Mid
I can’t. I just can’t. I barely made it through two songs. I’ve tried Dylan in the past. I can respect that his music has spoken to many people, but I’m just not one of them. I don’t get it. Never have. Never will. Next, please.
Listened to this while playing Isofarian Guard. I am just not a Bob Dylan fan. I did particularly enjoy the song about eating ass...but that might not have been what he actually said. A double album of Dylan is a bit much.
It’s okay I guess if you can channel some inner crusty artsy hippiness and ignore the hideous harmonica every other song. 1.5 good songs on here but I’m pretty much never in the middle for this kind of music.
I should give Blonde on Blonde a 1/5 but I am going to give it a 2 because I didn't actually like any of the songs but I do like his weird grating voice and his songwriting
loved the music and liked the lyrics when i could actually bear to listen to them delivered by dylan’s herky-jerky singing style. his voice put me in a bad mood. overall the album felt like being dizzy, faint and sweaty in an antique store but you can’t leave because your friend wants to look at every booth
Man, Bob Dylan. A prime example of right person at the right time.
Not for me, I've never been a Dylan fan. I appreciate some great lyrics and the message he is putting across in some songs. It's all the same; vocals, harmonica, vocals, harmonica. You would have thought he could have paid a session musician to play harmonica whist he sang at the same time! I notice some of his biggest hits such as Blowing in the wind and Times they are a-changin' are not on here so I'm guessing there are more Dylan albums in the 1001 ffs! For me the best track was Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands ....... because it was the last one
Hm, dafür das der Typ so berühmt ist, fand ich das Album jetzt nicht so pralle
Meh
Singles were excellent but general sounds don’t do it for me.
Sounds exactly like you’d think it does
Sounded like Mr Boom falling down the stairs
I wasn't a big fan. Didn't really like his voice, couldn't get into it much.
Yeah, no matter how much Bob Dylan you push down my throat, I am not going to like it. At least in a few of these songs he sounded like he wasn't depressed.
I recognized a few songs. That’s about it. Never been a huge Dylan fan and listening to this album did not change my mind.
I just don't think I'm a Dylan-type. I liked a few, but I think he's an acquired taste.
Vittu tää äijä kyl rakastaa huuliharppuaan. Alussa se oli hauskaa, keskivälissä vähän puuduttavaa ja lopussa olin jo et vedä bob viel yks huuliharppusoolo. En myöskään pystyny lopettaa sen ajattelemista et timothee chalamet tulee näyttelee bob dylanii ja i hate to admit it but i kinda see it....
Not my favorite. Can’t get into Dylan
I can appreciate Dylan but I can’t enjoy him. It just doesn’t grab me
Bob being himself I fear...
Nyt selvisi se, että en voi sietää Bob Dylanin lauluääntä.
