Reviews (page 3 of 13)

Great album. Not all of the songs were the greatest of all time but the album is a standout classic rock anthem. It transcends time and will be one of the records I reference when discussing the genre. Sunshine of your Love and The tale of Brave Ulysses and Strange Brew are all amazing songs. Released in 1967, this is probably one of the first and finest classic rock albums ever created. This is one of those few albums and the three aforementioned songs are some of the tunes I'll play whenever in the mood for some classic rock.

Really liked it! All the songs worked for me, loved the psychedelic vibe

As much as this is firmly Psychedelic Rock, you can hear the foundations for the whole Metal genre with songs like Sunshine of Your Love and World of Pain. An instant classic and hugely influential in the Rock world.

I would probably go with 4.5 here if possible thanks to Blue Condition and Take It Back. Otherwise, this album is perfect to me. I haven't really thought about it, but Jack Bruce probably has one of my favorite voices in rock if not in all music. I also love the softness and roundness of Ginger Baker's drumming and the humor in a bunch of these songs.

Three impossibly intrenchant characters, it's only surprising they lasted as long together as they did. Ginger Baker could start an argument in an empty room. Fantastic musicians, though.

I think they're considered the first super-group. And what a super-group they were. Only 3 guys, but they produce such a powerful sound. I'm not usually a Clapton supporter, but I love his work with Cream. I just think it's funny how he left the Yardbirds because he didn't want to do the psychedelic sound yet turns around and makes one of the most iconic psychedelic albums ever. I mean, just look at that album cover!

Cream was the star of the 60s rock 'n' roll scene, I played this album for years 50 years ago..

Awesome album, I forgot how much I liked it.

Own multiple copies. Classic album.

Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, Outside Woman Blues? Classic/10.

Excellent album, I had the ‘Best of’ Cream CD which got a lot of play. Only listened to this album about 4-5 times in full. Decided to listen to the Deluxe Edition which was cool. Favourite tracks Swlabr and Tales of Brave Ulysses

If Clapton is "God", I guess I'm an atheist. That being said, if one album in his discography could turn me into an agnostic, it's this one. 4.5/5 stars for the purposes of this list (rounded up to 5 here). Which translates to a 9.5/10 grade for more general purposes. Number of albums left to review: 442 Number of albums from the list I find relevant enough to be mandatory listens: 261 (including this one) Albums from the list I *might* include in mine later on: 133 Albums from the list I will certainly *not* include in mine (many others are more essential to me): 168

I came into knowing that Clapton is god and while I hate hippies, the music is just oh-so-spot on. 5/5, would listen to while not doing LSD.

Classic album

Really liked it. Cream is a band I’ve been meaning to check out more from for a couple years. I do prefer the other stuff I’ve heard from them and so I have a feeling I’ll like their later albums more, but it’s an album I’ll definitely listen to again. Probably going to add Strange Brew to the halloween playlist and my favourite song was We’re Going Wrong. May raise criteria for a 5* later down the line, but,

Damn this is really good. Its psychedelic in all the right ways funky to boot and super catchy. Sunshine of your love sounds like a song I've heard a million times but had no idea who did it. Only just read its Mr Clapton. Its fabulous

Pour some Cream on me, in the name of love!

One of my favorite album ever. It's the best work of every musician of this group. The drumming of Ginger Baker on this has always been a strong inspiration for me as a drummer.

A quintessential pyschedelic rock album with lot of blues guitar influences. It's among the best albums of the 1960s, in the decade that produced the finest albums in the history of pop-rock.

Having "Sunshine of Your Love" on it almost makes it a 5/5 album by itself. Luckily, most of the other songs are pretty good too. Good that they put the novelty song at the very end so it doesn't throw off the tone of the album.

Excellent. Could listen a lot.

A very formative album for me that i haven’t listened to in over a decade. Despite my Clapton-hate, I’m not sure the second British Invasion got much better than this…maybe a Zeppelin album or the JB Group, but this is the seminal album of the british blues genre imo

Probably my favorite Cream album. So many great songs and it's a record I'm glad to have in my collection.

Such a classic album that epitomizes so much of its time. Bluesy, psychedelic brilliance that never gets overwrought or jammy. Stunning bass work and authoritative vocals from Jack Bruce. Powerful drumming by Ginger Baker. Some of Eric Clapton's best guitar work ever. Mind blowing stuff, even today. Fave Songs (All songs, from most to least favorite): Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, Outside Woman Blues, We're Going Wrong, Take It Back, World of Pain, Dance the Night Away, Blue Condition, Mother's Lament

A little too psychedelic for me but some great musicianship.

An absolute classic. Great start

Truly classic

Solid rock

Pumped to see this pop up! Obviously a legendary classic album, but I had never actually listened to the whole thing, only a few songs. I was not disappointed! Listen again: Yes, for sure! Purchase for my collection: Yep, especially if I can find an original vinyl! Favourite Song: Strange Brew Worst Song: Mothers Lament (what in the eff???)

Absolutely banging album. My favourite Cream song is White Room, on their next album, but I think this album is better overall, with Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, and Tales of Brave Ulysses being obvious highlights. What makes this album stand out for me is that it knows what it wants to achieve and achieves it. Incredibly competent psychedelic rock, laser-focussed songwriting, and fun melodies. It naturally gets the +1 bad boy boost for Clapton's controversial comments, but would have given it 5 stars anyway.

This is a slapper album, and the album that completely changed the way people play lead guitar. Fuzz pedals, wahs, classic style. Clapton's finest work. I've listened to this album a lot over the years and I think all songs are quite good

This is not a perfect record, but it's a goddamn great one. What a group of musicians. Jack Bruce's vocals are legendary. 'Strange Brew', 'Sunshine of Your Love', 'World of Pain', 'Tales of Brave Ulysses', 'SWLABR' and 'We're Going Wrong' are all perfect tracks. And that's more than half the album! I generally prefer the psychedelic and heavy tracks to the more pure bluesy ones, so the end of side 1 is a bit of a slump after an incredible start. But who cares, it's still a collection of some of the best songs from the 60's.

Starting the record off with “Strange Brew”, ignoring the sleep inducing “Blue Condition”, and ending the streak of perfect songs on “We’re Going Wrong”. This album is almost pure perfection. I really enjoy “Take It Back” as well and the runtime is remarkably short. Had it been 2-3 tracks longer the more purebred blues songs would’ve annoyed me a bit. But this still stands out as one of my favorite 60’s releases. And that’s saying something.

A classic Cream album with two of their most famous tracks "Sunshone Of Your Love" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses", but also with the totally weird "Mother's Lament".

rockzao clássico

One of the best albums ever. not CREAMS strongest, but an all time classic, has influences probably every Rock musician since...

This is one of the seminal blues-rock albums of all time. It''s slightly dated but stands the test of time.

Psych rock and blues rock with Clapton on the guitar, it doens't get much better. Strangeeee brewww. Kill what's inside of youu.

Despite a few songs not aging so well, too many classics not to give 5 stars.

I love me some Cream. All four of their albums are fantastic and this is no exception. Some brilliant late 60s British blues rock. Can't get any better than this.

I've been waiting to get this one. It's a record I couldn't possibly give a "first reaction" to. It's one of my dad's favorites and I've listened to it so much on my own, it's kind of become one of mine as well (though I admittedly think the follow-up "Wheels of Fire" is the stronger record). The vocal trade-offs are great, the playing is tight (especially the drums, beware Mr. Baker indeed). I don't know what someone hearing it for the first time might think but damnit, it's my list. Favorite tracks: "Outside Woman Blues", "Tales of Brave Ulysses", "She Walks Like A Bearded Rainbow"

Classic. Some familiar songs and new ones too. I enjoyed it. 33 minutes was shirt and sweet.

I don’t know how many of Cream’s albums are on this list considering they only have four, at least one or two more of them should be here anyway, this album is an easy 10/10, no complaints whatsoever my favorite album is Wheels of Fire, but their entire (depressingly short) discography is awesome

this album is such a great example of the british psych rock genre. in my opinion such a classic - it definitely deserves to be on this list. my favourites: sunshine (obviously but its a classic for a reason), outside woman blues, strange brew

YA BABY YA!! Great guitar riffs

Inject this straight into my veins

Some lovely, lovely psychedelic rock. This is the album I think of when I think of Cream. It's just a joy to listen to. Calming at some points, rocking at others, Eric Clapton's guitar work is superb. I don't think there's a bad song on this album. The last song, 'Mother's Lament' is a bit weird and dark, but its an... interesting way to end the album? Nevertheless, a fantastic album that I will be listening to again soon.

Strange brew Killing what’s inside of you She’s a witch of trouble in Elle tric blue She walks like a bearded rainbow

Great album start to finish

Deliciously creamy jams

Really psychedelic of course, I loved it alot! Probably won’t be in my rotation save for a few songs in the back on my mind since It’s not necessarily my genre, but it’a amazing nontheless!

Such a good album. Cream at their best.

A power trio if there ever was one. Clapton has the coolest guitar tone of all time here, and he shows it off on just about every track. The bass makes some wild moves all throughout the record. And Ginger Baker’s drums thunder on every track.

Temons als que poso nom

Una obra cumbre de la Blues Rock/Psicodelia

Another classic, not much more I need to say

Fun British rock

5/5 classic

Great album.

Super cool record! Reminded me of Radiohead. Stand out tracks strange brew, Dance the night away!

Get a kick hearing songs I'm familiar with but don't know their origin. Sunshine of Your Love a Prime example of that. The rest of the album doesn't quite do as much for me. RYM: N Saved a song: Y

A solid rock record with some really good songs but not special enough overall.

💿 favourites -World of Pain -Blue Condition -Mother's Lament

Clapton before he was a bell end. Cream are such a weird band when you take a step back, amazing blues guitarist, amazing jazz bassist and vocalist, and one of the best drummers who ever drummed, who was possibly more of an asshole than Clapton. Their powers combined, they make... some weird slightly bluesy, slightly jazzy, slightly trippy classics... as well as a bunch of weird cockney knees up gather round the old joanna no fank you muvva av a banarna sort of music. That being said, this is a very smooth, very cool, dreamy, and chilled out album. Even the harder songs like SWLABR are kind of delivered in a laid back kind of style. Some of the lyrics are a bit "I'm 16 and I'm a serious poet". Overall it's a very solid album with a bit of filler thrown in here and there. It's baffling how good this is considering it was made by group of people who hated each other's guts, it never should have worked but somehow it did.

I didn't really get on with the other Cream album, Layla aside. This was much better however, apart from the silly song at the end. I really appreciated Ginger Baker's drumming. Possibly because of the album with Fela Kuti I had a while back.

Fantastic musicianship. Eric Crapton before he turned into a tin foil hat wearing loon. I struggle with the singing. Ginger Baker a worse singing drummer than Ringo! And Crapton's reedy voice become wearing. A classic none the less.

trippy. classic. legends.

Probably Cream's best album. For me, the thundering drums of Ginger Baker will always stand out over the more high profile guitar work of Eric Clapton. Jack Bruce's masterful bass playing is close behind Baker on this album. SWLABR, Sunshine of Your Love, and Tales of Brave Ulysses are some of the best tracks the band ever put out.

As a first album back after rating hiatus, this was a fun soundtrack to our Shinkansen ride to Hokkaido. A smorgasbord of sounds I did enjoy

Sunshine of Your Love might be one of the best songs ever written.

This one was a little strange, but a lot of fun. I like the mix of blues rock and psychedelic rock. The last song was weird, but reading that they were just having a singalong and didn’t know it would be on the album makes me like it more. Fav song: Tales of Brave Ulysses Least fav: We’re Going Wrong

Started this album a few times and kept losing momentum but when I finally committed to listening to it I really really enjoyed it! Think it might be one of those albums you have to be in the right mood to listen to but it when in that mood it's so much fun! will have to listen to it again! Favourite song: SWLABR (really liked Outside Woman Blues too) Least: Mother's Lament (such an odd choice...)

01) Strange Brew - 8,0 02) Sunshine of Your Love - 10,0 03) World of Pain - 8,5 04) Dance the Night Away - 8,0 05) Blue Condition - 7,5 06) Tales of Brave Ulysses - 8,0 07) SWLABR - 8,5 08) We're Going Wrong - 8,0 09) Outside Woman Blues - 8,0 10) Take It Back - 7,5 11) Mother's Lament - 6,0 TOTAL: 8,00 (80/100)

Incredibly important to the mainstream proliferation of hard rock with a psychedelic edge. Cream was the starting point for a lot of heavier rock, which is a point I find is too often overlooked when assessing the band's legacy. In modern times, I feel this band is increasingly forgotten when listing some of the all timers of the late 60s, a far cry from how rapturously they were received in their heyday. It might be that the band never really cared to get back together save some one-off reunions, nor did they ever care much to glorify this part of their history. Nevertheless, Disraeli Gears is Cream's defining statement, featuring the iconic heavy psych sound that defined the early years of heavy metal (all despite Mr. Baker's objections.) Musically the songwriting is pretty solid here though it's pretty obvious the singles were picked out deliberately. The majority of the deep cuts are instrumental showcases more than anything, which makes sense considering this album was recorded at light speed (the band apparently only took 1 or 2 takes to finish entire songs, as groups used to record together in those days.) One of the things that sort of distracts me is the lack of a single defined lead singer. Bruce does much of the heavy lifting here, especially on the B side. Clapton is still finding his voice here but his guitar skills are very well near their peak. Really, all the instrumentalists are in top form, which makes this album such a treat compared to the relatively loose contemporaries in the psych scene. I can definitely see why this was included on the list: it's rare to find the perfect combination of strong songwriting, elite instrumentals and broad appeal to leave such a long-reaching legacy. Even if this album's star has faded, I doubt it will ever go out. Key Tracks: Sunshine of Your Love, Dance the Night Away, Tales of Brave Ulysses

It's good but Wheels of Fire is better. Also an obligatory fuck Eric Clapton

Many good songs, but the filler is really filler. It's a 3.5.

So as a “supergroup” I had long thought Cream were a band with a few hits and not much in the tank after that, but this album surprised me. This was a new listen for me and it was worth my time. Other than maybe two skippable tracks it was a solid half hour of rocking. Clapton and Baker are really good at what they do. The bluesy guitar bits go real hard. Man, that electric guitar sound will always be welcome with me. There is also a bit of cheek in the songs and lyrics. These guys seem to be goofing around, how else do you explain tracks like “Tales of Brave Ulysses” or the ending “Mother’s Lament.” Beware of rockers in the mood to joke, I guess. Ultimately, Cream worked as a short lived musical act. Its funny how long lived the catalog of such a short lived collaboration can be. This album is a worthy inclusion to this list in my opinion. Glad I listened to it. I’ll probably still keep to the hits with Cream though. 4/5

Psychedelic blues, yes please!! Sure, Clapton turned out to be a shithead, but the combo here of him, Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce is absolutely stellar. Sunshine of Your Love is the riff all 12 year olds learn on guitar (sorry, Smoke On The Water), SWLABR manages to be weird yet still compelling, and then you’ve still got Tales of Brave Ulysses, Outside Woman Blues and Strange Brew. Loses a point for Mother’s Lament which is terrible, but otherwise top notch.

Yep pretty good but not astounding

Psychedelic rock Strange brew Sunshine of my love Tales of brave Ulysses

really badass stuff tho its lost some edge and weight with age imo

Great stuff.

Love the bluesiness! Very fun instrumentals. The vocal style isn't very compelling to me, Eric Clapton's vocals are the most bluesy, the other two feel pedestrian classic rock or psych style singers.

I really enjoyed this album. Lots of fun.

Sympa !!

7.0/10

I really enjoyed this one. I’ve never heard anything by cream before, so this was a great introduction. Dare I say 5 stars

This is the second time for this album. I have the multiple projects going. I gave it a 3 the first time. Except for Ginger Baker I was unimpressed. Let’s see how I feel today… God it has the hits. And Ginger Baker. He’s truly exceptional. The more I listen to him play in different settings, the more impressed I am. So today, it’s a 4. But… yeah, enough Cream for awhile. 4 Boolean:True

best nice, beetje beatles achtig. maar dan iets slechter

Oh goddamnit I actually like an Eric Clapton album. Fuck this guy, but incredible guitar play. He can shred but you can’t make me like him.

This was fun. Just sounds like some guys together just jamming. Very quick too! Felt like half an hour.

A few iconic songs, a few good songs, and one song that feels just soooo British.

“For as long as I can remember I always wanted to be a gangster”. Banger album

Great album. Not my favorite of the Clapton bands, but they got some bangers.

Love it, sunshine of your love is amazing

Very cool and groovy, but let down by Mother’s Lament

Heavily influenced by the Jimi Hendrix, Clapton formed this power trio with top musicians, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker and made the best album of their short career. Clapton makes his best music when he’s inspired by other musicians which didn’t happen enough. This album is great though. 4.5

Quality - opening two tracks standouts but the whole album really good

Most of these mid to late 60s British bands had a touch of Monty Python silliness that I’m just not into (re: the Kinks’ stupid slide whistle). This album has a little of that with the last “song.” I also don’t see how Clapton is considered one of the greatest. I could name 10 other blues guitarists that are better. All in all an ok album, a few good tunes a few shitty ones.

A personal favorite! Great stuff.

Eric Clapton sucks but this album is good

Trippy dippy sunshine

Oh come on, it's my second Wednesday in a row with an album that involves Eric Clapton. Now, I have to wrestle with the whole idea of separating the art from the artist debate(again). The album has a couple of classics, as well as some other fun psychedelic jams. Perhaps if he would have just stayed with Cream, we would think of him more fondly. Favorite Track: "Sunshine Of Your Love".

7.5/10

Clapton’s been a jerk of late and I’ve never thought his guitar playing was anywhere near as great as the adoring critics maintained, but this is a very fine album that was (I imagine) quite startling for its time. I knew more of this than I expected to. Everything came from the trio of musicians and has a nice variety. It starts with two hits and I love Tales of Brave Ulysses. A pleasant surprise.

So statesman like

Klausantis antrą kartą pradėjo patikti, toks užvedantis.

When you consider that the album was released in 1967, it’s almost on a par with the era's other masterpieces, such as Jimi Hendrix’s Are You Experienced? or the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Cream evolved the simple blues rock of their debut album into a much groovier form of psychedelic rock. At least, for the most part. This makes the boring or silly tracks all the more painful: 'Blue Condition', written and 'sung' by Ginger Baker, is particularly bad; 'Take it back' is a dull blues rock number; and 'Mother's Lament' is simply silly English humour that belongs on a comedy stage, not on an album. Conversely, tracks such as “Strange Brew”, “Sunshine of Your Love”, “World of Pain”, “Dance the Night Away”, “Tales of Brave Ulysses” and “SWLABR” are genuine psychedelic rock classics. Let' put it like this: This is a strong album, so just ignore the weaker tracks.

Loved this album

Mother's Lament was the cherry on top

my cup of teaaaaaaaaa

Добротный, практически не проседающий альбом от первой рок-супергруппы. Всех троих очень ценили за мастерство, но в наше время тот уровень конечно уже не так впечатляет. Хотя материал действительно неплохой, рад что все не ограничилось sunshine of your love

приятно слушать было весь альбом, strange brew и tales of brave ulysses нравятся особенно, да и sunshine of your love не приелось. все понравилось, хоть и не шедевр на 5, но 4 без вопросов

A truly fine classic rock album. Say what you want about Clapton, he may be a monster, but he's a guitar monster, too.

My feelings on this album are closer to a 3.5 than a 4, but closer to a 4 than a 3. Good playing, influential, vocals aren't great, a few rock classics.

For the most part, I thought this was real solid album. I also think that it’s good that they limited Ginger Baker to provide lead vocals on only one song…but none would have been better. Anyway, this one still gets four stars from me.

Overall a very solid listen. The blues based tunes and power trio format leads to a pleasantly consistent, if ultimately limited sound. I can’t be the only one who finds the album closer “Mother’s Lament” to be silly and out of place on this record.

Despite Clapton, I really enjoyed this. Solid 60s blues-rock.

#360/1001. Another classic so old that it was about 20 years old when me and my sister discovered it and jammed to Sunshine of your love. Now it is about 30 years after those jam sessions, and while it remains a classic for some, it is more nostalgia for me. I have a 4 for yardbirds, which we also jammed to, so I guess I'll be equal here.

Album #91: Disraeli Gears - Cream Genre (W): Psychedelic rock, blues rock, hard rock Singles: Strange Brew / Tales of Brave Ulysses, Sunshine of Your Love / SWLABR I have listened to this album once before. Thoughts?: I love Clapton’s playing and the arrangements of the songs, a true classic album in the classic rock category! I love it. Favorite songs: Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, Dance the Night Away, Blue Condition, Tales of Blue Ulysses, SWLABR, We’re Going Wrong, Outside Woman Blues, Take it Back

kinda grmi nazalost💔 prezirem eric claptona i dalje tho

I have mixed feelings about this album. There are some quite strong tracks, but others seem to fall flat. With the less strong songs, there just isn't much that is interesting to pull you in. But at the same time, the stronger songs feel really good. The instrumentation throughout is really great, especially the layered/multiple guitars. The vocals are also a really strong part of this album, and I think the vocalist just sounds really smooth and suits this kind of music. In some tracks, though, for example, 'SWLABR', the mix is slightly off in my opinion... the drums are slightly too quiet, and the lead guitar is slightly too loud, taking away from the rest of the song. With the drums being quite interesting in this track, it would have been nice to have slightly more emphasis on them. Favourites: Sunshine Of Your Love Strange Brew SWLABR Outside Woman Blues Take It Back

Primera: 7/10 Segunda: 9/10 Tercera: 6/10 Cuarta: 8/10 Quinta: 5/10 Sexta: 7/10 Septima: 8/10 Octava: 5/10 Novena: 7/10 Decima: 5/10 Onceava: 6/10

another wonderful chapter in the Clapton novel. forget the blues, time for psychedelica! The guitar mastery is there in full display albeit in his less favored genre. A time capsule to the 60s. Worth listening to once in a while so we don't forget.

Unfortunately* really good. Looser than other psych records, but emblematic for a reason. Best when it's bluesy (other than Sunshine Of Your Love, obviously). *I hate handing Eric Clapton any wins.

Cream is an underrated band imo, one of the few standard rock bands that i like due to their unique sound. Good album. Sunshine of your love is one of my favorite rock songs. Great stuff

Listen to more ginger baker

There’s a few songs I’d rather skip and’s there’s a whole bunch of great songs

dunno how i've never listened to this before

Peak cream if you ask me, which feels like splitting hairs given they only existed for like 2 years. Feels like the origins of heavy metal, just in the amount of power coming through two guitars.

Nice short album - always found Cream's songs and particularly lyrics to be a little weaker than some of their contemporaries, but I think they kinda did it first and pack such a loud sound. Love a trio made up of players this good so I'll go 4.

Bluesy goodness - shame Clapton turned out to be a complete cunt

It has its highs and lows for me.

This is pretty great. Strange Brew is such a strong album opener. The three tracks after Sunshine of Your Love are a bit bland for me, but it picks right back up with Tales of Brave Ulysses. SWLABR is brilliant, song of the album IMO. Mothers Lament gave me a chuckle, an unexpected end to the album.

The album color looks like it was made by somebody that was high. But then again it was the late 60s so somebody definitely was high.

Great album. 4 stars for "Tale of Brave Ulysses" alone, the raw, proto-"White Room"

#925. You've heard the term 'All killer, no filler.' Well, this isn't that. This is some killer, but also a healthy amount of filler. The good songs are absolutely fantastic, but the others are just... there. I can't quite tell if my score reflects a rather mid album being improved by a few great songs, or a great album dragged down by a handful of meh songs. I guess it doesn't matter either way. 4/5: good?

8.5/10

Cream is pretty rad, but their sound doesn't fully mature until Wheels of Fire

Pretty good so far

Classic psychedelic rock by one of the best trios in history. Liked Songs Added: Strange Brew Sunshine Of Your Love Tales Of Brave Ulysses SWLABR

Finally getting to hear this one after years and years of loving the hell out of this cover art. Clapton for me in particular gets on my nerves a lot of the time, considering the massive stretch of his career and just how many people he's worked with, but from '66-'70 or so he was on fire and deserving of the titles bestowed unto him. Bruce and Baker were easily his best musical compatriots before Allman and Whitlock, and this album proves that.

I think this was quite an enjoyable listen.

Mange kule låter, en håndfull ikke fullt så kult. Snill firer

Deilig psych🤝 Går hardt ut og melde at de to skiven med Cream e det eneste kule Clapton har lagd.

Very good album. Rainy day vibes. Good with acid. Makes me wanna play GTA Vice City.

Its okay, like I get it but its a pass from me.

Pretty fantastic, Sunshine of Your Love is one of the best songs ever. Top heavy though as a classic album

I didn’t realize I love Cream- even though White Room was King of Hearts entrance song

The songs that are on The Cream of Clapton I’ve heard a million times, and the ones that are new I liked! Except that one very vaudeville song that was the king of thing Paul would bring in and all the Beatles would hate

I enjoyed this album. There were no particular standouts, but I liked the sound.

Classic stuff. Mother's Lament is gold, I remember this was one of the songs we sang as a class together in Grade 2 music.

really liked it don’t have any other thing to say tho

Classic. Love for this album has sentimental ties to family and friends citing this band to listen to as I was studying drums. Not sure how someone with a more "modern" lens would think of this, but as someone born 12 years after this album came out, the world had already changed quite a bit from when the album came out, but it was firmly embedded in my adolescence and is a happy place.

I loved Tales of Brave Ulysses that was a 5/5 song

4/5 me gustó bastante. Canción favorita "Sunshine of your love"

Listened late, didn’t get through whole album but would most likely jam again.

Highlights: Strange Brew, Sunshine of Your Love, World of Pain, Blue Condition, SWLABR, Outside Woman Blues One of my personal favorites since I do like me some Clapton. The highlights are truly iconic, but the rest of the tracks are a bit of a drag. I liked it when the record went for a harder sound, so calmer tracks like We're Going Wrong didn't click. In that regard, the first half was way better. The second half aims for the blues sound, and not the hard rock that was a more thrilling experience. And just what the heck was that last track...

3 songs I liked the most: Dance the Night Away - "a light, melodic song with elements of pop and folk, encouraging you to dance the night away." Cool, I like it. We're Going Wrong - "a very dark and intense ballad. The song conveys a sense of impending disaster and relationship discord." It's very powerful, and I really like it. Take It Back - "an optimistic and rhythmic rock and roll song." The song also features Jack Bruce's harmonica playing, which makes you want to dance. The harmonica playing was very fun. Overall, the album is very cool, and I would give it a 4 out of 5.

Album #117 Cream: Disraeli Gears I was a little skeptical at the thought of eleven consecutive songs about controlling a Gundam through its ass, but Clapton somehow managed to make it work. One of the standout psychedelic releases of the 60s, from what is essentially a supergroup. This was before Clapton became irreversibly infatuated with his own greatness and was still willing to be a mere component of a group. Some all-time classic songs, and unlike a lot of psychedelic albums from the time, never really veers into hippy bullshit, other than the last track, which seems like more of a joke than a serious song. Great album cover, and a great album, though it wouldn’t be my go-to psychedelic record. Best Songs: Sunshine of Your Love, Tales of Brave Ulysses, Strange Brew Worst Song: Mother’s Lament Score out of 10: 8

Another all time album. Eric Clapton's genius on full display and Jack Bruce's vocals are very underrated. Iconic songs and nice collection of songs in the record

I like bands with three dudes.

Love cream

Psychedelic rock. Very fun Melodies and good vocals. Surprisingly enjoyable

I’m positive that selecting Strange Brew as the opening track was a conscious decision as a foreshadowing of what Cream believed was indeed a strange brew of blues based psychedelic music. Followed by Sunshine of Your Love demonstrated that the influence of Jimi had been carefully studied and adopted as the foundation for the record. At this point in time, listening to the track, and for that matter the entire record, I’m reminded of Spinal Tap and as World of Pain plays I imagine Ginger Baker exploding. This is a very well realized effort by the band not to be trapped in its blues roots and the recording is in itself magnificent. The recording still holds up, perhaps because it is not a Clapton solo project. This sounds like the work of a band of musicians interested in creating sounds that interest them. There are a few efforts that fall flat. Noticeable in this regard is Blue Condition. Ginger’s vocals are a little flat. Although I prefer Jack Bruce’s vocals to Ginger’s overall the three of them work best when they each take a lead with the others supporting. SWLABR is another highlight taking some of the same guitar tone as Sunshine and repurposing it for this track. Best of all are that the songs avoid the noodling - they are tight with each note having a purpose and punch that adds to the song. Baker and Bruce are remarkably tight giving Bruce, a notable bag of ass, freedom and room to play and he does turn in a remarkably restrained and nuanced performance. This is evident on We’re Going Wrong with Clayton’s nuances runs adding to the track a texture which builds as the song progresses to its logical and perfect conclusion. Not my groove but like others on this list, you have to appreciate great art. 4/5

Great stuff. Classic. But not quite. 4.85

Psych rock. This album is a 5 musically but some of the lyrics are a little suspect.

Me gustó, las marea de sonidos que emanaron los instrumentos

Really enjoyed this album. Was missing the next step for 5/5.

A good solid classic rock album.

Very very cool psychedelic album. Not much to say other than I really enjoyed and the lyrics were very fun. Sunshine of your love holds up! Highlights: Sunshine of Your Love (ofc), Outside Woman Blues

Influencia y padres de Kevin Parker (Tame Impala)

Obligatory fuck Eric Clapton but this is pretty good

Some really strong bangers but outside of them it’s just ok, would’ve been 5 stars otherwise

Familiar with a few of these tracks, there were a couple bangers that i didn't know. Did some reading on the band background.

Very good

A classic

I cannot wait until Eric Clapton fucking dies. That said, this is the single album he's involved with I have actual nostalgia and a soft spot for, and it's mostly due to the fact Jack Bruce is a GOAT bassist/singer of 60s psychedelic rock. Ginger Baker is a capital C Character of rock music in himself and is also in top form. "Sunshine Of Your Love" is a radio classic, but I also love "Dance The Night Away" and "Tales of Brave Ulysses" 8/10.

Tales of Brave Ulysses and Sunshine of your Love have just enough bite and Strange Brew is an excellent album opener. Can't say I feel like giving this guy the fractions of pennies from streaming revenue again though.

8/10 I really enjoyed the singles, the guitar and vocals were really impressive. Eric Clapton is still a racist asshole.

Just some good dirty psychedelic rock. Finally warmed up enough outside to listen to this one with the windows down on my car.

funky and groovy and super cool

This might be Eric Clapton at his finest, and maybe Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker too. This is a very solid album from beginning to end, despite the unusual final track. Cream rightfully deserves the moniker of supergroup. 4 stars

Great album but not something I think I’ll listen to again of my own volition. I wouldn’t complain if it was put on though. Solid psychedelic rock. Maybe if I had some drugs I’d be more into it.

Fuck Eric Clapton, but the Summer of Love vibes are undeniable here

3.5 rounded up. As a Clapton fan, this was a fun listen for me. Not a fan of the lsd infused music genre 9especially the vocals) but not all the songs sounded like that. Ginger baker drumming….. nice. (Did you know he lived in Parker for close to 10 years?

very 60s. heavy guitar riffs with a touch of Hippie-ness.

I think this album is amazing. The songs are well written, incredible amount of talent all around - guitar, bass, drums, vocals - what a band!! This album has one of my favorite guitar sounds of all time. SWLABR is a top 50 all-time favorite song for me. Second favorite guitar sound of shy song behind only Spirit in the Sky. And this album is so ahead of its time. In addition, I love that it mixes psychedelic, hard rock and blues. The biggest pitfall for me on this album is the production is just awful. Everything is so flat and thin, the drums sound like they were recorded in a warehouse, and why are they in stereo on one side???? Otherwise, just GREAT 60s proto metal.

The first two tracks are classics. The remainder of the alblum did not disappoint. I wasn't not expecting "Mother's Lament".

English Blues Psych with some amazing riffs and singles

One of the better late 60's albums. A shame they had such a brief run. The album had some filler but mostly great songs.

Good ol' Cream

Really enjoyed this one, felt like a psychedelic journey, only a couple of songs let it down

I like psych-rock, also SOYL… THAT riff, epic. EC has said some awful things though.

That Clapton guy’s pretty good at guitar Unsurprisingly the guitar solos are really really good in this one, really impressive what Clapton’s able to get out of that instrument. Sunshine Of Your Love’s got one of the most iconic bass lines of all time, so simple but so catchy. The bluesy psychedelic sound is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Really well paced album as well I like the vocals Bruce and Baker provide for the most part, but I don’t really care for Clapton’s sound all that much, he should stick to guitar. It’s not the end of the world but I 100% think this would be a better album if Bruce sang the whole way through

I love love love Tale of Brave Ulysses; just a fantastic song with great fun lyrics Blue Condition sucks though so it all balances out idk man i remember listening to a lot of cream back then but it's not as good as I remember? I know Ginger Baker is really good at drumming, but it's a little too heavy handed for me, especially when paired with the distorted guitars. It works great on We're Going Wrong, but it can be overwhelming on other tracks.

What can one say about Disraeli Gears? Groundbreaking. Bad ass. Great album cover. Brilliant sophomore effort. Definitely veering harder toward psychedelia as opposed to blues, far different sound than Fresh Cream. Tales Of Brave Ulysses still one of my favorite Cream tracks, if not my all-time favorite. So unlike anything else they did. SWLABR is a pretty good jam. Strange Brew is a banger, and great Opening Track. In the short life of "The Cream" this is really an outstanding album. Representative of the times and featuring the full power of the first rock Super Group. There's a lot to like here. 4 stars.

This album is pretty good, except the only thing I really have to say is that almost all of the songs just repeat and don't really change. It almost sounds like they just loop each song. Other than that, it was a pretty good album to listen to.

I don’t really consider myself a huge fan of Eric Clapton, but it’s hard to deny that he’s had a major role in making a ton of really good music. From the Yardbirds to Derek and the Dominoes and everything in between. This album is definitely no exception. He shares vocas with Jack Bruce, and they both do an excellent job of matching vocal styles to the groovy basslines, the psychedelic style of Clapton, and the funky drumming of Ginger Baker. The classic hit single on the album “Sunshine of your Love” stands out for good reason, the main guitar riff alone is iconic, but it’s far from the only great tune on the record. “We’re Going Wrong” is one that particularly stood out to me, huge drums, and a solid tempo dropping bridge. “Outside Woman Blues” is another track that I really enjoyed. If I had to pick one negative on the album, it would be the song “Mother’s Lament” a weird little jingle that I don’t particularly care for. I’m not confident in calling this a perfect album by any means, but as far as the bluesy psychedelic rock genre goes, it’s pretty good. Did I need to hear this before I die? For sure

Classic and legendary. Good tunes

this is what i listened to when i used to roll up

Monty python british shanty really elevated this piece for me

Does everyone love sunshine of your love or just me??

I was a tiny bit disappointed my this album. Obviously Sunshine of your Love is great but the rest were kinda whatever. 3.5 but round up to 4

Not every song here is a winner and I think overall the vocals could be better, but the quality of the guitar playing more than makes up for it. Favorites were Sunshine Of Your Love, Tales Of Brave Ulysses, SWLABR, Outside Woman Blues, and Take It Back.

Thoroughly enjoyed this album, really getting into the retro rock sound through this journey. Bar a couple of forgettable tracks, it's an incredibly solid album. Will be listening again in future. Best songs for me were: "Sunshine of your Love", "World of Pain", "SWLABR" and "Outside Woman Blues".

Nice, rockig, Chillinger

Another psychedelic album that thankfully leans more towards the blues power trio format than English tea whimsy or American navel gazing. It's short, punchy (like Ginger Baker) and to the point. The get-in-get-out vibe makes it so much better than others around at the time. Clapton may be a fairly vile person, but he could play a mean guitar. Best Tracks: Strange Brew; Sunshine of Your Love; SWBLAR

good music, bad racist :/

I think the only thing stopping it from being a 5 is my mood. But I get to write the ratings, so it's a 4.

Very good album, there's a couple of stinkers but the classics outweigh them.

Had never listened to this album front to back but knew many of the songs. Strong strong band, some classics.

"Sunshine Of Your Love" has such an iconic guitar riff. This type of British rock isn't quite my taste, but it was a good listen.

As good as this sort of thing gets, way cooler than the generations of blues dentists with Murphy Lab Les Pauls. Massive noise, eternal tunes. Bass! Fucking bass! Favourite tracks: Sunshine Of Your Love, World Of Pain, Tales Of Brave Ulysses (my favourite Cream song)

прикольненько на фоне чтоб играло

I think I creamed hearing this. This sounds exactly how I thought the late 60s would sound.

Hard to be objective. Bought this a million years ago. It's a prime piece of British psych. Eric before he was a shitbird. Jack Bruce is a great singer. Pete Brown nails the 67 flavored lyrics. And Ginger does his thing.

“Oh it has this song on it neat” but nah this was pretty chill I think I liked the back end of the album more than the front but the front had the most memorable song! What a conundrum. 4/5 good stuff!

Hard to deny the musicianship on this and there's some killer tunes to boot. I knew this before I developed my distaste for Clapton hence the slightly higher score but he does mean i'm less likely to revisit.

Good, funky, dancing rock

A 4 at least

Expectations were a little too high heading into this. I don't know quite why I had Cream set up in my mind as this sort of legendary all-timer group. This was pretty good? Kind of boring, still solid? For being called psychedelic rock, it doesn't seem to push it very far, but it's bluesy and rocky and a good time. Obviously Clapton is a fantastic guitar player, but I don't think this album showcases it all that well. Still, this was a very good record. Fave tracks: - Stange Brew - Sunshine Of Your Love - Tales Of Brave Ulysses - SWLABR - Outside Woman Blues

This is my first time listening to this album start-to-finish, though I'm quite familiar with quite a few of these songs. It's a pretty solid album, and I'm glad I listened to it. I'm not sure I'll add it to my list of albums to listen to again, as the unfamiliar tracks weren't compelling enough.

Front half was so good. I was not expecting the oddity of the last track

I had the “best of” cd as a kid and wore it out. A lot of nostalgic and iconic ones from this album that i love, but the b sides are not so great. I especially hate ginger bakers singing (last song on side A 🤮) and honestly not a huge fan of his drumming either. But its a classic

Built on a blues foundation but filtered through vivid psychedelic color, this album balances familiarity with experimentation. The guitar tones are thick and assertive, yet the songwriting remains concise and structured. It doesn’t drift into abstraction; instead, it stretches traditional forms just enough to feel adventurous. Some tracks hit harder than others, but the overall sound is cohesive and confident.

strange brew - very dreamy, whispery vocals, but with rock elements, a really sharp, twangy electric guitar, and strong drums, 89/100 sunshine of your love - this is one is way more funky, the vocals are strong and smooth, and the drums are more prominent. i love the riffs, they feel like rolling down hills. 90/100 word of pain - this one is more witchy in it's tone, the vocals are back to their whispery, dreamy state. There are now synths which add more to the dreaminess. 90/100 dance the night away - 80/100 blue condition - more dramatic than the previous tracks. 91/100 tales of brave ulysses - i wish the beat drop went a little harder :( 95/100 SWALBR - 90/100 we're going wrong - 80/100 outside woman blues - this one is more jazzy. 92/100 take it back - expanding on the jazz elements of outside woman blues. 96/100 mother's lament - this one is little more silly, felt more like an interlude than an outro but i looove spoken word singing. 92/100

Rockin' and rollin'

Tienen una canción blue condition que es re aburrida. Pero habla de eso... Interesante. Escuché entero el álbum. Me gustó

classic

These guys (the self appointed cream of the talent of the day) had the advantage of being first to the party with this kind of sound. It's good and was innovative but if you like this type of music there are probably some better artists who took this forward and in different (maybe better) directions. No doubt this album was an important milestone in the development of rock music.

A '60s psychedelic-blues classic, the star track being Sunshine Of Your Love - easily a contender for most iconic guitar riff of all time. But because of that, I was worried it would completely overshadow the rest of the album. It definitely looms large, but most of the other tracks are strong. Clapton’s guitar work is sharp and inventive, Baker delivers world-class drumming, and Bruce’s lyrics and vocals are consistently engaging. Don't let Clapton near your wife, though...

A classic rock album, maybe a bit more funky. Some famous songs on here. I liked it.

Listened before and it's very good

Yeah, pretty good

it’s not as creative as piper at the gates of dawn or as vivid as sgt pepper, but it’s still ahead of the curve compared to a lot of other music from that era. i also really like the quality of sound they captured in the guitar. +1 for tales of brave ulysses

Psychedelic and bluesy. The cover matches the content perfectly. Best lyrics: "Tales of Brave Ulysses"

There is a clear distinction between the stronger and weaker tracks on this one. At its best, it's distilled 60s psychedelia with urgent, anxious and joyful guitar licks. At its worst it's wobbly, lightheaded tedium. Fortunately there is more good times than bad comedowns. It probably sits somewhere around a 3 personally, but I'll bump it to 4 for it's cultural significance.

Classic Clapton

Fuzz was an epidemic of the 60s (complimentary)

it was great thought it was from 2000s however it was released in the 60s and the band also wrote three albums in matters of three years impressive compared to SOME music artists nowadays

Mukavaa psykerokkia, kyllähän tämä aina menee.

Strange Brew: very very bluesy, very fun, cool guitar solo, lyrics are simple but i think theyre fun and fit. Overall a pretty fun and laid back song. 7.5/10 Sunshine of Your Love: this is a great song i like the jam i like the lyrics, love the bass and guitar. really fun! 7.8/10 World of Pain: I like the lyrics, jam is great, i like the bass and the guitar, and the drumming is so so good. very good song! 8.2/10 Dance the Night Away: Bruce's voice is so beautiful in this, very nice lyrics, sick guitar and drumming. very good 8.1/10 Blue Condition: something was off with the vocals w this for me, but i liked the song overall, it was chill. 7/10 Brave Ulysses: Cool story telling! Very jammy. vocals are so like "yelling" sounding, like why is he yelling?? 7.3/10 SWLABR: Def the most jammy song in the album. Its funnn. 7.7/10 We're Going Wrong: It's interesting, definitely the most unique song they have on this album, it's not bad. 7.4/10 Outside Woman Blues: uhh interesting lyrics (ik its a cover, but why even choose this song its kinda ehhh)? everything else is fine. 6/10 Take It Back: It's alright, i feel like its a little bland. 6.5/10 Mother's Lament: silly ending. 5/10

One of Clapton's finest moments, albeit not as fine as Layla or Blind Faith. 4/5

Album art says it all. Psychedelic rock! Mellow yet rocky with a rhythm. A perfect vibe for a chill time at the pub haha

I found I prefer Tales of brave ulysses to sunshine of your love

eric clapton is a POS but the album is good

Nice! Enjoyed this one.

좋음 굳굳.

Consisting of 11 masterfully constructed songs, the musicianship of Clapton, Bruce and Baker created an album that remains one of the most influential in rock. Disraeli Gears marked a turning point in the genre and its incredible blend of sounds truly makes it a timeless classic.

Cream of the crop! Vill egentligen att de ska luta sig ännu mer i psyken, men det blir ändå en fin balans med bluesen. Sunshine Of Your Love, vilken låt alltså.

Good for its moment. Always difficult to separate the man from his art with Clapton, and as I began to enjoy the British 60s rock innovation, there he'd pop up with an appropriated Albert King lick... The ego. The lack of shame. Still, this is a great album, marked down for El Crappo

A foundational building block of mine.

Clapton's guitar prowess is on full display here, even if the b-side doesn't carry the same weight.

It's interesting and groovy

It's musically really appealing, and I love many of the songs. The lyrics/songs often just feel like pranks, but that's just Cream.

Eric Clapton's a piece of shit. There, got that out of the way. I kind of have a soft spot for this album. Although looking back it's maybe not as deserving of they hype it gets. I suppose that this was an important album in music history, as was Cream an important band though they had such a brief run. And as much praise as Clapton got (gets?), I really feel like he's the weak link on this record. Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker are just obviously so much better and more diverse musicians than he is. The bass tone on this record is sooo good and the drums sound huge. I kind of wanted to hate this album after listening to it again, it's been a long time. But damned if I didn't like it just as always. It's well played, creative, fun to listen to, and memorable. Is it overrated? Absolutely. Is it a great album? Yeah I think so. Maybe not one I would listen to a lot but I'd definitely come back to this now and again. The vocals are lacking a bit, a better singer could have done wonders. But this was really (as far as I know...) the first power trio and that's a very difficult thing to accomplish as a band. As for a rating, I don't know. It's a great record but there's no way I would call it perfect. It would hover in the neighborhood right under 4 I think, maybe going up and down here and there. Eric Clapton is still a piece of shit though.

Eric Clapton is an asshole. This album is good. Two things can be true. This album trails off after putting some heavy hitters in leadoff but has nice blues throughout. Top tracks: "Sunshine of Your Love," "Strange Brew," "Tales of Brave Ulysses," "SWLABR"

The album.was really good, but I found the lyrics just a bit weird and off-putting. Great guitar work and iconic riffs, but too abstract in lyric content. 4 stars.

Some great tunes. Nice.use of effects like fuzzy and chorus and wah on the guitar. Lots of blues influence. But too many drugs being taken during these sessions leads to some odd songs in there that just dont hold up.

I know the songs but I never knew the band - such a pleasant surprise so good - sunshine of your love is incredible

Cream de la cream

A cracking album a great sound of the time it was made

Classic !

Despite my distaste for Eric Clapton the man can definitely play the guitar

Were they drunk for that last song wtf lmao Probably my favourite of clapton's stuff other than layla

Surprisingly good actually. Last track was my favourtie

4.14/5 Stars Top Songs: Sunshine of Your Love, Strange Brew, Tales of Brave Ulysses

Very solid. Influential.

ewidentnie wpływowy na muzykę ale ogólnie mocne ok

My friend who plays the guitar recommended this album to me and I was thinking I already have to listen to like 500 albums that probably sound exactly like this. But the album was not bad, solid length too. Low 4.

Pretty great!

Je préfère quand Clapton reste dans le blues rock strict. Mais la petite exploration psyché est pas si mal.

What a great album to get on this Monday Morning! Already familiar with Cream and their hit Sunshine of Your Love, but I was immediately hooked by the familiar and fun sound on the Strange Brew opener which I can’t recall previously being exposed to. The delightful guitar, vocals, and sound continued through the album and made me want to dig into the lyrics and learn more about the band. Tales of Brave Ulysses was a standout for me. Mother’s Lament was quite the interesting closer, and more funny than sad upon closer inspection of the lyrics. Overall I just really enjoyed the feel of this album and listened several times throughout the day.

Cream is great and this is my second favorite album of theirs.

Sounds like drugs and feels like them too at times

Great walk jams

Strange brew #1

Nice soft-ish rock. Very period, I wonder what influence they had on the genre since it was released somewhat early in ‘67.

Yeah it’s good

liked it

I enjoyed this fun psycho (psychedelic?) album!!!! Made me want to watch school of rock. My favorite song was take it back or strange brew. Can’t you see that as a coffee shop theme? Also obviously sunshine of love was catchy af. I went on a minor deep dive, recognized Eric claptons name. I always thought he was like a TN guy!! Not British!! Same exact feelings for take it back — such a bluesy, country song, who would’ve guessed it was British? Interesting overlap. Maybe I’m uncultured. I’d give this album 6.5/10 stars!

A little too short. I love the straight up single take-style recording and production vibe. Nice early 70s vibe going on. At the same time also a little forgettable. Album cover is fire

I've heard enough guitar wankery to last several lifetimes, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much actual songwriting there was to be found here. On top of that we have terrific performances from multiple vocalists and a heaping helping of fun psychedelic nonsense. I think "Blue Condition" is the real outlier here (besides of course the dumb joke of "Mother's Lament") and I enjoy it thoroughly - funny and catchy and truly odd. "Sunshine of Your Love" and "Strange Brew" remain untouchable, although no one needs to hear them again. My top favorite is "Tales of Brave Ulysses" - I wouldn't have guessed that over-the-top psych and Greek myth make the perfect pairing. Everything else is fun, occasionally exciting, and very much a time capsule.

This is good, although a bit front-end loaded and really does tail off towards the end. Also, despite only being 32 minutes it does feel a lot longer, plus there’s the Clapton factor. Still, Strange Brew and Sunshine Of Your Love are excellent and really lift the album.

An absolute classic that’s under appreciated. I understand that a lot of the songs are covers or “stolen”, but Cream on my Mount Rushmore of trio bands. Cream are bar none the most influential band of the 60s.
