Reviews (page 13 of 13)

Achei parado demais, gravação ruim. Sei lá. Lembra Bob Dylan.

The lesser album from The Velvet Underground, great individual melodic songs but it lacks the edge and rawness from their prior albums. Also, I despise "The Murder Mystery".

Wasn't really doing anything for me, might be because I just had it on mostly in the background but it didn't feel like anything other than average indie rock. Maybe their later stuff is more evolved.

I.... I just don't get it. I'm glad you all seem to love this, but I really don't know why.

I thought this was fine. Didn't really jive with it.

If the Beatles were lazy

48/100 Candy Says 3/10 What Goes On 3/10 Some Kinda Love 5/10 Pale Blue Eyes 7/10 Jesus 3/10 Beginning To See The Light 6/10 I'm Set Free 4/10 That's The Story Of My Life 4/10 The Murder Mystery 6/10 After Hours 7/10

The only thing I liked here was the timbre of the guitar, so that’s better than nothing.

Meh this is not for me. Definitely a distinct vibe and I respect the specific niche this lives in, but I'm just admitting this is not something I'd go for.

Listenable. The first three songs are decent. I don't like Lou Reed's voice in the love song, Pale Blue Eyes. (So many artists should get over themselves and get someone else to sing their stuff.) Overall, this album is a bit low-key for me, but it's interesting-ish, and a pleasant sound. Just a bit underwhelming.

Uninteresting

it's good, just bland to listen to

Eh mid

I don't understand the hype

I really want to this this type of music. But it was kind of weird during some songs. Not my favorite. But it was good.

Bit to slow at times

I like Lou Reed, and I liked most of The Velvet Underground & Nico album, but I didn't get into this album at all. All felt a bit too slow and meandering, which is fine, but I got bored.

Nothing particularly of note. Not an album I'd put on when given the opportunity to select one myself but it was alright. Nothing terrible; nothing especially interesting

I tried it out, but honestly it was boring. I didn’t end up finishing this one.

This is supposed to be good, right? Then who wants to explain to me why the last two minutes of What Goes On is essentially the same strumming, drumming, and organ chords. It felt like two months. Brutal. At what point do we just put Lou Reed’s lyrics into books to enjoy his genius instead of insisting that they be wrapped in middling musical performances. I said the same about Bob Dylan. This record was genuinely a struggle to listen to.

Another self titled album? how many self titled albums can one band release? Slow & Dull, I don't particularly like TVU.

The only thing I really liked on this was After Hours.

No song that interested me, some ideas were fun but ultimately dissapointing

liked it more than their banana album but still not my thing. the only thing making it enjoyable to me is the fact that it released in 1969

Probably good if you're on quaaludes but a little too slow and melacholic for me

Wow, this album was definitely not my type. The folk rock was really strong and, honestly, a bit boring. I only enjoyed 1 song and the rest was a drag. I would only recommend this album to fans of the genre and band. Favoritee Song(s): "What Goes On"

No interest

Boring. 2/5

Not my speed

I know they were super influential and I was even interested in listening to the album. Boring and weird, couldn't wait for it to be over

Honestly didn't catch my attention from the get-go. It had its good songs here and there but overall not a good album in my opinion. Maybe for others just not for me

Ehhh not bad

I too went to art school

Honestly a pretty boring album.

I just don't get it. There's nothing here I haven't heard elsewhere or done better. Maybe they got there first? I don't care. I'm listening to them after.

Boa surpresa. What goes on - já não posso dizer o mesmo. timbre ruim. execução pueril. soa datada. some kinda love - segue ruim. timbre ruim. execução ruim. voz do lou reed se mostra o que eu esperava dela. ... I'm set free - música ruim. solo de guitarra sofrível. after hours - o melhor dela é que encerra o álbum.

Much more chill than I expected.

You guys! Don’t tell anyone. This is NOT GOOD. Dude. Some people are going to pretend that they think this is the best thing that has, literally, ever been recorded. But here’s the thing about that: They don’t play together They sing off key ( annoying not quaint) More pretentious immature poetry (I’m looking 👀 at you Tom Waits) Don’t act like you’re the first person who was ever in a difficult relationship. Seriously someone is trying to trick you. Listen more critically. Maybe I’m at a place in my life where I don’t want to hear your complaining anymore. I don’t understand the love for this or the VU in general.

I want to like the Velvet Underground I really do. I want to be one of the cool kids. But I just find it so boring.

Too slow. Too boring. Too much noodling on an organ. Not a fan. A few decent songs. But overall a bit of a stinker imo.

Boring...lack of percussion on most songs didn't help. 2

very mellow. solid guitar but not a fan of the vocals,

It was fine. Nothing extraordinary I didn’t love it. Very underground 60s and that’s not really my thing. Just not something memorable for me.

War okay

Slow-burn '60s rock outing. Not my favourite.

Classic

This album is ok. Maybe I got too excited seeing The Velvet Underground, because they're a beloved band to many, but this album was just kinda boring to me. The songs were kinda boring, and those that weren't boring were weird sounding, which is just as bad. Overall, not my taste. 1.5/5 Favorite song: Pale Blue Eyes Worst song: The Murder Mystery

Not really a fan of this kind of music

Meeste liedjes zeer saai.

Rough and boring compared to Velvet Underground & Nico

I felt that this album, even though some songs on their own are good, couldn't quite find it's place in the genre and is not enticing or connected enough for me to properly enjoy it. Just seems all over the place and not really my style, enjoyed Pale Blue Eyes but that was it

Very slow to get into, but I did find the more I listened the better it got. Each song is quite different, and I’m not too sure what they were going for here, but I can see it being pretty interesting for it’s time. Listen again: probably not Purchase for my collection: no Favourite Song: After Hours

A penúltima música inclusive me deu dor de cabeça.

Pretty mellow stuff. Nothing really that fun stood out.

Meh. Trying too hard to be edgy.

jaha samaa bändiä näin lähwllä toisiaan. heikompaa, aikaisempaa työtä tässä...poisalta-albumiesque albumi. ymmärrän miksi kuunteluun lähti...mutta ei käydä visiitillä tulevaisuydessa heh murder mystery

I really like the idea of the Velvet Underground, and some of their other work (white light white heat, Venus in furs) is inspirational. This? Less so. I've heard that the first Velvets album only sold 10,000 copies, but that everyone who bought a copy formed a band.on the basis of this, they were all the kind of pseudo lo-fi, feckless, boring indie bands I despise. It's not all bad. Candy Says,Pale Blue Eyes and beginning to see the light are nice enough. I just can't get away from the conceited indie boys that inevitably followed

Idk how this gets rated high on all time lists

Not my thing. Not really a Lou Reed fan, so not a shocker. Call it 2.5.

Murder Mystery was fun, the rest less so

In perhaps the exact same vein as Kurt Cobain, I will never understand - nor honestly give a shit about - the obsession with Lou Reed. Just awful. I want to give this a 1 just for my visceral hatred of The Lou Reed Family Funtime Experience but to be fair (why) after listening I will begrudgingly admit this is "better" than their previous 2 nightmare albums which I had the misfortune of being forced to listen to again this year. So/yet if I take away the moniker "Velvet Underground" what would I objectively think? Likely that this is/was a fairly unspectacular, unmemorable, but surprisingly safe album. That's still covered with Lou Reed's terrible voice and pedestrian musical imagination, but I'm grading on a curve here. It's just fine and boring and we'll slap a 2 on it and move on. 3/10 2 stars.

Strong opening half. Murder mystery is awful.

It's alright at the start. It's kinda boring, then Murder mystery comes in and bloviates for 9 fucking minutes and really left a bad taste in my mouth

It was okay

Eh. Was putting me to sleep.

this kinda sounded like bob dylan

The Velvet Underground are at their best when they’re doing weird, subversive shite. This is very orthodox and a bit anemic. By the time anything interesting starts happening in the last 10 minutes I’d already lost interest

Quite boring.

I like ‘Pale Blue Eyes’ and ‘The Murder Mystery’ (but what the hell is it doing on this album?) but the rest of the album is a chore.

I find this a bit boring

I love the 1st VU album with Nico I love Transformer by Lou Reed And yet this just did not hold me at all. Hard to say why

not for me

It's an OK album, but it's an easy listening romantic album, so something for when your in a loved up mood, but still wouldn't be my go-to album for the mood vibe.

Not my thing really

A bit dull really

Here's one I came into with a negative bias. Marianne's a VU devotee, but I was (am) not. I've always thought Lou Reed was a cool character, we even have a story of not quite meeting him but being in close proximity at BAM once when we saw Laurie Anderson. Anyway, he's cool, I like him as an iconic figure. But try as I might, I do not like his music. I did have a new take on things as I listened to this album. In the past, I might have said "I don't get it." Now, so much older and wiser, I get it. I just don't enjoy it. I had hope as "Candy Says" played that perhaps I'd find something I liked here, but with each passing song, that light faded. Maybe it was a repetitive passage that wore out its welcome long before. Or an off-key delivery that I didn't find artistic. Or a mix that made me have to adjust the volume on my player. No need to beat the horse. I tried. I failed. I like the periphery around this band and movement. The music is for others to enjoy.

Not my favourite Velvets album. I was more a fan of White Light/White Heat. I found Cale was a great counterpoint to Lou Reed. Doug Yule didn't have the same sort of creative dissonance with Reed, and it shows on this record.

Most of the album was very straightforward, I enjoyed murder mystery though it should be half as long and after hours sounded like hop along which I liked. Wiki suggests their older albums are weirder which I think I'd prefer.

I'm afraid I found this rather dull, coming off the back of Laibach. I'm sure it is great, Wikipedia seems to suggest so, but many songs felt like they never got going.

Is it me, or are the 1001 albums on a flat streak? One more album that has not made my life any richer or broadened my musical taste one iota. Yes the lyrics are poetical, and for that it maybe justifies a place in the 1001, but musically it is uninspiring. Not one I will listen to again.

God, I found this dull

Some cool songs Some really bland songs Experimental songs that completely miss my mark. Heroin was cool though

[Grumpy old man warning] I know this band is super famous and considered to be super influential, but frankly I can't see what the fuss is about. What am I missing? Maybe I'll find out when I read your reviews.

I'm not sure what I expected from the Velvet Underground, but this wasn't it. The decision to have all band members sing - including those who objectively cannot sing - was a curious one.

More mellow and folkier than expected. Really not seeing what all the fuss is about.

Probably an acquired taste? More "velvet" than "underground".

I love the first 2 albums but I just can't get into this one. It's just has too many twee and lo-fi tracks for me.

nothing stood out

First album from the 1001. I hope most aren't of this old rock genre. I understand they're classics, but it's not really my style. Still, there were a few moments where I kinda enjoyed the sound. Maybe I'll change my mind.

Best Song: After Hours. Pleasantly innocent, with a sort of naive feel. Very sweet. Worst Song: The Murder Mystery. I get it's a bold artistic choice to have different audio playing in the left and right ear, but goddamnit it sounds awful. Overall: I can maybe see how some people might like it, but the whole thing is too understated for me. Everything felt like a warm-up. I appreciated the thoughtful lyrics, but there are more poetic singer-songwriters out there, and nothing else really held my interest.

Just didn’t totally feel like my vibe. It’s fine.

Without John Cale, they're largely a bit boring. The album is saved by Pale Blue Eyes and Murder Mystery, which are lovely and barmy respectively, but the rest of the album is mostly just there. They say only a handful of people saw the Velvet Underground but they all formed bands. If they'd seen them at this later stage, we'd have a lot more accountants.

This is another one of those folksy American albums that's just fine but not memorable in any way. I think it's better than some of the others we've had in the same genre though, Beginning To See The Light and I'm Set Free are very good and flow together superbly.

Yks kaks ok biisii. Murder mystery meni yli ymmärryksen, onneks sen sai skopattua

Did not jive with

So I liked this album a little bit more than the other VU albums we have heard. It is more accessible, yes. But honestly, I can't see anything special about it. And "Murder Mystery"... um, WTF was that all about? The rest of the songs just had that air of pretentiousness. "Look I am being art." Sure you are, Lou. Just not buying it. Next.

Alright I suppose.

This was better than the other VU album with Nico. Quieter, more melodic, slightly poppy. Then there was the Murder Mystery track where there were two people talking over each other out of each mono side for 6 minutes.

This is just boring. I don't get it.

Maybe this was album was "the bomb" back in '67. Not today. D+

While the album has it place it just didn't do it for me. I can see how it influenced artist at the time but it just never got going for me.

The album was uninspiring and unnoteworthy. No need to listen.

Favoritas: N gostei de nenhuma

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground (1969) I never ‘got’ the Andy Warhol/John Cale/Lou Reed ‘thing’ until it was too late. By then, the ‘thing’ was already passé, and I had mouths to feed. But now that the mouths are fed, this serendipitous re-visit has convinced me that even though all the intelligent girls were transfixed over it, it really wasn’t that big of a deal. Maybe that’s just old age (but I’ve always enjoyed the prescience of “Walk on the Wild Side” by Lou Reed [1972] and “Lola” by The Kinks [1970)]). It’s a strange package, with occasional delights. My high school art appreciation teachers told me it wasn’t expressionism or surrealism, and I took that as Gospel. But maybe they were wrong, even though they were some pretty intelligent girls themselves. Now the album The Velvet Underground (now without John Cale) is a step back from the brink of the first two albums by The Velvet Underground. And as such, it simply reveals the group as a moderately competent rock group with slightly greater than average sense of lyric creativity (as in “The Murder Mystery”—really cool). When Lou Reed asks the Lord (in “Jesus”) to “help me find my proper place”“‘cause I’m falling out of grace”, the obvious solution is to climb back in—but that’s too simple. The music on this album is a simply a workable vehicle for a sometimes thoughtful message. On “Candy Says”, we hear: ‘Maybe when I'm older What do you think I'd see If I could walk away from me?" Most oldsters I’ve come to know have found that as time goes by, there’s less of a need to walk away from oneself. Maureen Tucker (“After Hours”) can’t sing. This album didn’t chart. 2/5

Bit ponderous

Favoriet is wellicht "That's The Story Of My Life". **

Sounds like the Beatles kicked down the stairs.

Its nice enough but its just sort of bounces along gently without ever making much impact on me. 2/5

This is the third album from The Velvet Underground. The sound of this album is a type of "folksy" rock, and the songs seems like they were written as ballads as well as being sung well. It was a beautiful album that was not appreciated until 1985 when it charted. I loved the music from this album and will be listening to the other albums from the band.

While I'm sure it paved the way for a lot of new wave music I don't think it aged particularly well. It would be a decent album to relax/nap two if the second song wasn't so jarring

didn't particularly love it, though one of the songs I knew from Sex Education!

Just...nothing to it that grabs me. It's inoffensive but it doesn't work with my jam at all.

I did not care for this album. There is a good chance that I simply do not enjoy The Velvet Underground as it all seems "one-notey." A few songs on this record go on for 5-6 minutes and feel like they will never end...needlessly long since there isn't anything else being explored. "Murder Mystery" really drove the point hope for me toward the end, though, as I had to skip out of that song 3 minutes in. I kinda like the last song.

Good songs, very 60's mature artsy music types. 2of5

A couple of good tracks here and there but overall the album was pretty "meh" to be honest.

I was dreading reviewing this record, as I had listened to it before and I am aware of the iconic status the eponymous "the Velvet Underground" holds in the Art Rock canon. Having listened to it in its entirety, the worst parts remind me of Pink Floyd's disgustingly atrocious debut. The best parts.... I am not sure. It's hard to focus on the good, when the sound quality of this record is so bad, especially when compared to the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper (which was released in the very same year). Sunday Morning sounds like a decent lullaby, the instrumentals on I'm Waiting are incredibly bloated, I can barely hear Nico on Femme Fatale, the percussion on Venus in Furs is grating, the vocals on Run Run Run are of the lowest quality possible, All Tomorrow and Heroin are way too long and There She Goes Again and I'll be Your Mirror are alright. 2/5.

Found myself unable to focus on most of the album/skipping songs as they came up

Side 2 was a bit better than side 1. nothing stood out to me. Felt a bit too religous for me personally.

Guess what - it sounds like the Velvet Underground. 2 great songs = 2 stars.

Some fun melodies but mostly booooring

nellow singy songy music... lou red vocals

It is not bad, but not my taste

What a sleepy, dull album. It’s very soft and would be good for naps or to play for your grandpa. Gets an extra star for After Hours

Uneventful

Kind of like a blend between the Beatles and CCR. When there's a song called "Jesus" on the record, I'm not inclined to enjoy it, however.

i know i'm supposed to like this

This was okay. I'm glad I listened, but I'm very okay never hearing this album again.

I thought I liked the velvet underground but I found this album quite boring and monotone

Something, something, but didn’t click for me.

Enjoyable, deserves to be on the list, but a vibe in the background for the most part for me. But I didn't DISLIKE it at all.

Eh, I liked this better than the Loretta Lynn album and whatever other crap 1-star albums are on this list, although not much better. I'll give it 2 stars, but reserve the right to downgrade that.

I just hate this. I hate this band and their lazy boring sound and their poor singing and everything.

Not for me

This is garbage. Worse than Morrissey. Something about the sound is just irritating to me. Come on Lou, i'm trying to cook dinner. This shit is offensive to my ears, Lou! Stop it!

Meh…

Wow. This fucking sucked. Nobody can sing on this album, including the woman in the end. The songs are boring and pointless, and to top it all of, the record does not even sound too good.

Gimme a break. Lou Reed can NOT sing, he just talks through he songs. When someone so clearly untalented is heralded as “one of the best” you’re left to wonder how many times he had to self his soul (or other talents) to his “patrons” to get his break. In an era of greatness he is just not that good.

Either trippy & discordant or low-key & sedated.

not rlly my style of music

No es mi edtilo

Overrated .

Almost painful to get through.

I was annoyed every moment of this album

Idk when autotune became a thing but it's glaringly absent w these older artists, esp when their music is heavily produced otherwise When this dude holds his notes he goes "uhhyUh"

Honestly fuck this album and fuck this band. One star is too many.

i'm so glad we're past the days of this music being acceptable

Holy shit I just don’t like the velvet underground. The second album I’ve listened to from this band and I hate it. It starts strong with Candy Says, but then just gets worse and worse. Every song suffers from the same problem: it starts of great, continues in its minimalistic nature, and then goes absolutely nowhere, and then just keeps repeating for 5 minutes. It’s all the same. It doesn’t develop or just stop. I zoned out so many times, when I zoned back in it was the exact lyrics and instrumentals.

The Murder Mystery was a listenable song…everything else was putting me to sleep:/

Horrible. Basic lyrics and music was louder than the voice.

very slow

it's a shame the first song is the best one by a mile! the last one's good too. the repetition's a lot and halfway through you could tell every song's got the same formula. an album only to be listened to when it's quiet past 9pm. not a daytime album unless you're alone in the kitchen baking a nice cake and the sun's peeking through the windows. not at all what i'd usually pick out but i'm glad i listened because i need to listen to new things outside of my comfort zone!

Yet another incredibly boring album on this list. All of the songs sound the same. No life or variation in any of these tracks

This was so boring :x It didnt start that bad but as the album went i just couldnt even finish it

Unlistenable.

I don’t think I would listen to this again from beginning to end. It started off strong but it felt dull after “some kinda love” but I will say the gem out of this album is “candy says” and I really enjoyed the guitar in “I’m set free”

#43 Not these guys again

Bland, repetitive, skippable

What a load of pretentious BS. Can anyone tell me what they actually like about the album? Because I couldn't really find anything. 1/5

Bored me to tears

I want to like this. I feel like I’m missing something.

Betydligt softare än bananplattan. Också mycket tristare. Enformigt.

Had to go back to finish it. Experimental and not in a good way. Im certain it was influential given the time of its release but it is just such an unpleasant long tiresome listen i cant put up with it. I thought it was because i was listening on way back from work so listened when i was more energetic but it still put me to sleep and bored me senseless

I only liked the one album they did with Nico and Andy Warhol. I prefer her voice over anyone else.

Something something this is an influential group and album, but it didn't resonate with me. I'm becoming a broken record with a lot of these late '60's and early '70's groups. The production quality of this album in particular was really muted and poor. I have a weird feeling it was on purpose. But what else can I say? I just didn't like it.

Definitely not my jam

meh. not my genre

The extended instrumental vamp at the end of "What Goes On" might be the most boring thing I've listened to on this list.

Boring as hell.

this was so thoroughly boring that it made me go look for the context on why it's on the list and i found the explanation wanting. it sounds like there's a producer in the studio glaring at lou reed to make sure he doesn't get too lou reed about anything

Strange group. Strange music.

I’m not a huge fan of this one, it’s fine, but not very interesting. I’ll say 1.something, but not enough to round up to 2 stars.

Ugh, again, Black Francis may like Lou Reed, but I'm not a fan. This album is another reminder that I don't really think Lou Reed is a good songwriter and he's not a great guitar player either. I just don't see the love/excitement for this band. They're way overrated.

I would give this zero if I could. Lou Reed sucks.

p172. 1969. 1 star. Mostly average 60s songs from a mostly average 60s band. You can see why it didn't sell at the time. Reduced from 2 stars to 1 because of the abomination that is "The Murder Mystery".

What a dreadful noise

I just don't understand the hype with this band.

This is the 4th Lou Reed album that I’ve gotten on this list so far. I love this album list because it gives artists I’ve previously disliked a chance to prove their discography. That said, I still can’t stand Lou Reed. How is his music so glorified?? This absolutely sucks. If the only person to ever do heroin was Lou Reed, no one would have listened to this

Even though (all but one of) these tracks don't have unreasonably long run times, they sure do FEEL unreasonably long. I think, perhaps, it's the incessantly bland and repetitive melodies in the background with nothing vocally or harmonically interesting in the foreground that makes this an absolute chore to listen to. In the face of undeserved hype, I very confidently give this dross a 1.

This is the 90th album I’m rating. I hate Lou Reed and without Nico I can’t imagine this album being any good. Adding to my Playlist - Candy Says, What Goes on, I’m Set Free, and After Hours. Not Adding to my Playlist - Some Kinda Love, Pale Blue Eyes, Jesus, Beginning to see the Light, That’s the Story of my Life, The Murder Mystery Candy Says - I’m sorry Lou Reed. Some Kinda Love - I just learned that wan’t Lou Reed. Lou Reed this sucks. All in all I liked 4/10 songs. Lou Reed kinda sucks.

Not a Lou Reed fan so this was a problem for me.

Just not my thing. Too old and dated, would never want these songs coming up on shuffle.

Not my style

Kinda boring tbh, only interesting thing was The Murder Mystery.

i am just not a fan of this style of music, at least from this era. i love about half of the rock music from the 60s and can't handle the other half.

Too sleepy for me

Obviously I've heard of The Velvet Underground before. The Warhol cover is inescapable, but I had only listened to that album. Mostly for Nico's vocals, I mean, "Femme Fatale" is incredible. So, going into this, I sort of had an idea of what I was going to get. With a lot of 60s rock albums I expect to hear what I can only imagine the most cliche 60s vision is. You and a bunch of smelly hippies piling into a VW bus and hitting the road from your podunk small town to head to Woodstock. That's what the first three tracks sound like. As the album goes on, every song starts to sound the exact same. Until you get to "The Murder Mystery." I have never heard a song like this before. They mixed different vocals to two different audio channels so the different vocals are talking over each other and my brain can't decide if it likes it or not. All that to say, I'll probably never listen to this again, but you can always appreciate something that laid the groundworks for an entire genre.

I dont like this song i dont like the song jesus because of the rhythm I don't like it

I don't like pale blue eyes song becuase the beat is faster than the speaker. Murderer mystery song i dont like it because the lyrics are wierd and the beat is kinda good. i dont like the jesus song because it very calm but the music is good like the guittar

Singers could not sing on pitch, drums were really random (like a 2 year old played them) every song is a ballad apart from one or 2 songs. I actually ended up skipping some songs because they were predictable and repetitive. The upbeat song consisted of the lead singer trying to belt off their part. It was very repetitive and boring. I can at least say I gave it a chance.

Properly hate this, a chore to get through

Not worth a listen.

The first song gave me hope I'd like this album but ended up getting bored. Didn't save any songs.

Not a fan. Nothing here for me. I disliked it less than the Lou Reed solo album that was served up to me a while back, but that's just because he doesn't sing every song on this album. 1 star.

Long, repetive lyricism. Did not finish.

I understand this is an influential album, it just doesn't speak to me musically at all.

Everything written about this album keeps referring to it as "rock & roll". Is the rock & roll in the room with us right now? I'm Set Free has the worst guitar solo I've ever heard. I think The Murder Mystery is about awful vocalists murdering an extremely simple melody. The mystery part is about why anyone would want to listen to this. I wish I could unlisten to this. Unfortunately, I know there's another Velvet Underground album on this list coming up at some point. At least that one has a good album cover to look at. 1

The Murder Mystery Track is trippy with the L and R audio. They play two different songs almost but it somehow fits as one song... It was weird but cool haha. Pale Blue Eyes was the best song on the album

Nicht meine Richtung

Boring

First song was bloody awful. Second song - the bit that was enjoyable was when no one was singing. Third song sounded a bit country. Completely forgettable. Fourth song - can't hold a note Fifth song - a song about ruddy Jesus Sixth song - sounds like budget Bowie Seventh song - whiny Eighth song - two minutes repeating 'that's the story of my life' Ninth song - a load of talking over music, bloody awful, cacophony of shite Tenth song - new voice. Still not in key. This was painful.

The most coherent thing I have heard out of Lou Reed, yet not enough.

The Murder Mystery might be one of the most pretentious songs I've ever heard. It tries too hard to be interesting and experimental. The random talking over the music that reminds me of someone reciting a pledge of some sort is absolutely awful and annoying. It doesn't add to the song. And I honestly don't see how they thought this was cool or good at all. My thoughts are: Too many drugs have distorted their judgment. I fucking hate it. The music and vocals are absolutely trash. Akin to a toddler banging on instruments and talking over each other. Some songs on this record are great. Better than some on the 🍌 album. But this record is overshadowed by shit songs. It ruins the decent songs. What a shit choice in tracks. You go from Beatles esque songs, to Doors esque songs... To songs that that sounds like I'm fist fucking myself. I can't. Those shit songs have tarnished the good in this record. Maybe I'm in a shit mood while listening to this... But I don't care.

Not my style, some of the songs were very long and very busy.

60’s

Didn’t like it, not for me. One song was pretty good but the entire album itself was pretty bad.

Highly overrated. Not a fan. Self indulgent and whiny

Too depressing & boring for me.

Not one of these tracks goes anywhere. I expected a lot more from one of the most renowned bands of all time.

I wasn't a fan

Though influential to many bands in the later years, this one doesn’t hold up well. Sounds like something you hear on extended anniversary albums popular today where studio demos are included.

Not for me. 1/5

Boring, I couldn't understand this album.

One good song on here and it’s the first one. The rest is drivel and every one is too long.

It's a very soft and quiet album. Musically not the best outing from the group, but lyrically maybe their strongest album. To me the sound is just terrible and makes this album really hard to listen to.

Stupid posing

Smooth & folk-like

Disclaimer: I’m not a fan of the Velvet Underground (only heard Nico) and I really dislike Lou Reeds music and how he behaved. It always seemed they went out of their way to be counter culture cool, but that’s just me. I understand music lovers will talk about the influence this band and albums had on music which I very much appreciate. But listing to this was no joy for me and it was boring and dated.

I just cannot with this album. Off-key, drowsy, pathos-inducing music. Yes, I know it’s considered classic. Emphasis for me on “ic”.

Nope, not for me.

I thought I would like this but I didn’t. A lot of noisy guitar strumming and repetitive sounds. It was annoying.

Hated it.

Could put me right to sleep. Listened to murder mystery for 30 seconds before hittjhh by NEXT!

Absolutely terrible. Not only do I hate it, I don’t like anybody who likes it. Not music.

Not my type

This was a rough listen. Lots of songs and not one lifted me or got me adding it to a playlist. The Dylanesq vocals, jam band, and often chaotic vibe didn’t resonate for me.

Definitely not my type of music.

Would I listen to this album again? No. First time hearing the full album? Yes. Were there any songs I skipped? Jesus, The Murder Mystery Comments? Absolutely boring album, could fall asleep listening to this. Favourite Songs? None of them. If I had to choose.... After Hours.

i get this is a seminal album. i hated it. i'm going back to snsd.

I don't know if it was poor audio mixing, out of tune instruments/singing, or what but I really struggled to finish this album. There were a couple songs with some bluegrass feel that I almost enjoyed. But as a whole it felt like it was written and recorded by amateurs at a church camp. Not a fan.

Venus furs sounds whiny with a violin seemingly purposeful playing the wrong notes. I also really don't like the messiness of Run Run Run. It feels very discordant. Again. And I don't like it. The next song is just boring and slow. I honestly can't wait for it to be over. It doesnt seem to get any better. Unless you like music that sounds like a psychedelic mess I don't recommend this album to anyone.

I don't think I've taken enough drugs in my life to make this album make sense

2/10 - decent sounds on some songs, but too weird for my taste Very mellow beginning I can't decide if the singer has a good voice or not, very lightly singing in the first song. The second song is way more upbeat, singer kind of growling vocals? I'm not into this so far Weird organ synth? Songs last too long Lots of nice guitar playing, lyrics are weird and just not vibing This isn't for me, strange lyrics and experimental, not my thing I don't want to DNF my first album, but getting close Beginning To See The Light sounds good to start, but will probably last too long - yep, already getting worse Weird yodel? Listened to the first 6 songs straight through, will skim the remaining There's a cool binaural audio on The Murder Mystery, 60s always messing with switching channels What the heck is this? Each ear has a different monologue? This song would be a trip if high lol Who is the woman singing the final song? This album is such an experimental 60s thing

Not a fan of this genre of music

Not a fan

Extremely overrated. Album had nothing going for it

Very experimental. Opened doors for new sounds such as punk and new wave however; this band was way ahead of their time. Although I would like to say I am a fan of Lou Reed, I just couldn’t get into this album. Sure there are a couple easy listening songs but then there’s nothing special about them either. Each track is either that, very easy or too abstract. I hate doing it, but I’m going one. 1

unbearably slow paced

Bland, beige, and morose rock music. Recording quality seems poor and muddy. I don’t understand the allure. Like Arcade Fire, I think I am supposed to really like this band but… meh. Nothing on this record makes me want to hear it again. One star.

Boring, monotone nonsense. Lou reed is not a genius. The emperor isn’t wearing any clothes. Stop pretending Lou reed is talented.

Definitely not my style. Too slow

no. I did not give this album a chance because the second I saw who this was I turned on volume one and left the room. No.

It is man years ago, and I dont tune in on this album, sorry.....

Soooooo slow

Not the best album very up and down. Wouldn’t say it would be one I’d ever really go back to and listen too

Didn’t like this one

Not an album that would make top 1000 list. 👎🏼

I can appreciate it but not really my cup of tea. A bit depressing in comparison to some of the other music I listened to from the same era.

Not my taste but that’s ok

Pretty boring. "What goes on" was the highlight.

What’s the attraction?

Great relaxing album with serious undertones
