lol she's so crazy!!!!

It was alright. First half carried for sure but her voice got very annoying.

Not to be crude, but Cyndi Lauper is fine as hell even now. Lots of fun. Reminds me of being a kid in the 80s. Good stuff. Absolutely love "When You Were Mine" and "Time After Time."

Liked a good amount of the songs here, the hits are pretty good and I liked her voice

I knew and appreciated the hits but hadn’t listened to this album so was hoping for some gold. Outside of the hits it was a mixed bag, some throwaways for sure but I did enjoy the weirder edge on the two closing tracks.7/10 Favorite tracks- “Time After Time” “She-Bop” “He’s So Unusual”

How could I forget Cyndi Lauper? I think that when I heard something about her recently, I confused her with Madonna. That's the sound of the 80s. It brings back some memories. And not all of them are pleasant, just like the songs on this album. Overall, though, I liked it. But I won't be listening to it again anytime soon. 3/5

Favourite Track: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

Filled with most of her greatest hits, but I’m waiting for the next one to begin. The songs in between are just not that exciting to me.

Has some timeless pop hits, but a lot of it is quite dated

First things first, I've always hated Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. For the longest time it was easily my least favorite song of all time (with What's Up? By 4 Non Blondes in a very close second). Nowadays it's not bothering me quite as much, but Lauper's vocals on the song still annoy me. Which is hilarious because Time After Time is an all timer of a song. Absolutely amazing. So those two songs canceling eachother out, the rating basically falls to the rest of the tracklist... which is generally just fine. Some not so-great songs like She Bop, some pretty solid cuts like All Through the Night. So yeah. A real mixed bag of an album.

Not really my thing mainly, but pretty good and a fun Thursday listen!

Solid debut with great singles, but not much than that.

A-sidan är bra, faktiskt riktigt bra. Inledande Money changes everything i synnerhet, ikoniska Girls just… och When you were mine.

Hitsen hör naturligtvis dit, men även Prince-covern When you were mine ska nämnas. Att köra en Micke Rickforslåt på slutet kunde hon dock låtit bli. Soundet är med jämna mellanrum allt för daterat och utfyllnadslåtarna håller väl så där. Vacklar mellan tvåan och trean, men väljer att fria.

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Her singing isn't great or technical but she brings the party. We know the iconic "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and can't imagine group gatherings without it, for better or worse. "Time After Time" is the real standout on this album but there is a fun range of songs and styles. "She-Bop" is poppy and bouncy while "Witness" has some Reggae/Ska inspired guitar. "All Through the Night" was a sparkly, fun song. I really enjoy the album but wish her vocals were more tuned in. This would get a 4 or 5 from me otherwise.

This was a pleasant hour, and there's stuff here to recommend. "When You Were Mine" was new to me and stuck with me, and "Time After Time" is undeniable. I was impressed that this wasn't all just bubblegum pop, and there were moments (like "All Through the Night") where I could find her place in the lineage of the pop music I'm really drawn to (Robyn, Charli XCX, etc.) All that said, I can't imagine coming back to this.

Hell yeah this got me jumpin around like a charlie brown character

Very 80s

Quirky, sometimes silly, but unmistakably original, Cyndi Lauper presents herself—visually and vocally—like a living cartoon, yet her gift for melody is impossible to dismiss. The synth-pop sound and neon look were tailor-made for the dawn of MTV, and her elastic voice, complete with yelps and Brooklyn/Joisey inflections, gives everything from bubblegum pop to tender ballads a distinctive edge. She’s so charismatic, in fact, that she transforms an outright ode to masturbation into a sly, radio-friendly hit.

Not bad, but not really my type either.

Alright

the quintessential 80s sound

Pretty solid stuff, of course the album has two big hits in Girls Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time, but the rest of it follows in a similar vein for the most part. Somewhat standard 80s pop production, but creative arrangements and such.

listening when: before and after pilates thoughts: this album was like 10 songs long and 3 are still radio blared bangers. what an icon!! short and bops just how i like it. rating: 6/10

It's a fun album, and was huge at the time it came out. But it's hard to get overly excited about it today.

The radio songs rock. The rest is meh. GWAR does She Bop better.

Solid 80’s Synth Pop, but Weird Al’s Girls Just Want To Have Lunch is the superior version 🙋‍♀️🥪💁‍♀️🥗🙆‍♀️🍜

Not really my jam, but gotta say that all of the singles STILL hold up.

God I used to love the Girls Just Want to Have Fun song when I was six years old and didn’t even really understand what it was about yet. 80s synth pop is really not to my adult musical taste but I can’t argue that I had some fun here even now

Typical 80s bangers, some weird interludes that do not really add to the album

Im a girl and I had fun listening the album

A bit of 80s fun

Yeah yeah yeah yeah, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun dafür alleine...(evtl neue bewertungskalt für unsicher Alben: wie laut habe ich s gehört?)c

fine. not to my taste.

Gutes Zeug! Verrückt, in welchen Höhen sie die Töne noch trifft. "Time After Time" und direkt darauf "She Bop" ist ganz großer Sport. Gegen Ende geht dem Album die Puste aus.

Killer songs abound - especially side one. Production at times is a little tough.

I think as long as I live in will forget that the girls just wanna have fun girl is the same as the time after time girl. Those songs are both forever in the pop culture consciousness. And they are both here. Maybe she had more music i dont really know but even if thats it it's a damn good pedigree. And the other stuff on the record is also pretty goodm nothing that stands out in an insane way but a good listen for sure. She does have a great powerful voice. And the synths are exactly what 80s synths should be. There are quite a few sections that they get to show off and im always impressed. Some of the more throwback stuff maybe not so much but it does mix it up a bit. A good record but overall not the best. Though it does have some best on it. The highs are way up there but the rest is just OK.

The two big hits are really good. Rest of the album wasn’t my absolute favourite, the vocals are so high that they can feel a bit screechy, but it was ok overall. 3 stars

The album starts off strong with "Money Changes Everything." Then of course the timeless anthem "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Soon after, another classic hit "Time After Time." Things tail off from "She-Bop" on. I'm no prude but I still found She-Bop cringey. The rest of the album is kind of meh. A quintessential pop album of the 80s. The hits definitely carry it, the rest is just fine.

very pleasantly surprised by how much i enjoyed it, the songs that have been ground to dust by cultural memification get on my nerves but the non-singles were actaully amazing!! and even though elements of it are outdated, there are some surprisingly in-depth and unexpected songwriting choices 3.6/5 or so Fav song: All Through the Night

In was fun.

Paar gute lieder, aber im allgemeinen nich ganz mein geschmack. "all through the night", "girls just wanna have fun", "time after time"

I enjoyed this more than I expected

Pretty good

I've never intentionally listened to Cyndi but there were some fun songs on here. She kinda bop

Cyndi Looper! One of those artists where I'm more a fan of the person than the music, although these are perfectly serviceable 80s bops. I knew the singles, but I never listened to the full album before. I like the bubbly synths. Good vibes, almost a 4. Highlights: 'All Through the Night', 'Witness' Lowlight: 'I'll Kiss You'

A lot of classics on this album but overall pretty middle of the road pop.

Gear: 64 Audio Duo Artwork: 😑💃👠 Production: 🧼🙂👌 Music: 🤩💖🌈 Ratinng: 🕛🕧🕐(🕜)/5

I now know why Cindi was so unique and such a powerhouse. Quite an eclectic work but iconic

I knew Time After Time, She-Bop, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, and All Through the Night. It was fine. Very poppy.

Enjoyed it more than I thought I would, I’d give it 3.5 if I could

It's good 80s pop... but don't think I can take a whole album of Cindy Lauper style and voice

This was such a fun album.

I wish I was in a better mood listening to this. It probably would have been a 4

Obviously one to know as it contains many hits. But... not something I would put on just for myself. Perhaps during cleaning if I need some fun energy.

Favourite Track: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Time After Time, All Through the Night

Some catchy tunes but doesn't hold up well

As sparkley 80's pop as it gets. If you can name a single Cyndi Lauper song you've heard this album.

Good pop album, with a couple of great songs "Girls Want to Have Fun," "Time after Time," and an interesting Prince cover "When You Were Mine."

“She's So Unusual” is the first and most iconic album by 1980s pop and new wave icon Cyndi Lauper. You could say it's full of clichés, but that's because she actually coined those clichés. And of course, also the cover adds to this. I think that even today, literally everyone knows “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” or “Time After Time.” So, yes, you should know this album (unless you don't really care for music, but then you wouldn't be reading this).

Very impressive imagine how young she was . For my everyday music taste, its too poppy. But i dont regret any minute of listening to it.

Two or three bangers Rest are alright

Very solid pop album, a couple very famous very catchy songs, didn’t overstay its welcome and drag on, some songs are ones I won’t actively seek out but if I run into them I won’t be mad.

Wanted to like this more than I did. It's decent '80s pop with some (though not enough in my opinion) new wave mixed in. Vocals are really difficult to enjoy and did not age well.

Pop confection.

Cyndi Lauper classic, good and funky.

Urmmmm

Some proper classics in the first half but trails off a lot in the final 3-4 tracks

I really enjoyed this blast from the past.

крэйзи вумэн

I was grumpy (wrong mood for this) and I’ve heard girls just want to have fun too many times… but this still sounded very good. I get why this is an all time great. My rating is probably too low, but I blame it on this popping up when summer is over

Pretty fun. I liked when you were mine and she bop.

Her voice sounds like she's [REDACTED] while trying to sound like a [REDACTED] with a [REDACTED], truly ahead if her time. [Insert sarcastic comment about liking Time After Time] Yeah I think I might be checking out Yeah nah I much prefer ska punk to ska pop This honestly isn't that bad, it's a bit quirked up and suffers from the classic The-Worst-Songs-Are-The-Popular-Singles-Syndrome

This was good. Nothing amazing, but I think the songs that are hits are probably some of the worst on the album.

This is quintessential 80s. The beefy, prominent, snare hits, the bright guitar tone, the synth hits, the timbre of her voice even. Track one, I was vibing, but I was IN at the melodica solo. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time on the same album?! Gahhh damnnn. I feel like Cyndi’s soundscape is like rummaging through a toy box. The sounds are loud and vibrant and colorful, but safe and familiar. She makes music with primary colors. While I think every song fits in the world she is creating, every song is very different sonically. She Bop is a shift in tone from the first four songs with its almost Oingo Boingo nod in the synth and melody. The snare tone is beefier and the bass is MOVING. Then BAM tone shift again with All Through The Night. The last few songs kind of loose me, but I think that’s just gonna be the case with front loading albums due to vinyl sales.

Very 80s

Aggressively 80s, has a few good songs

First 4 songs are killer. The rest are fine. 3.5

Années 80 ! Une meuf qui chante donc ça parle d'amour forcément C'est catchy, elle chante pas trop mal En dehors des chansons "typiques" c'est plutôt sympa

Girls power !!! Un peu eu l'impression d'écouter 10 fois Girls wanna have fun mais c'était sympa.

Listened to this album practicing yoyo, amazing experience. Fav song: All Through The Night.

Standout Songs: Girls Just Want to Have Fun Time After Time All Through The Night Witness Some decent songs on here but a bit too much pop for me

Fun album

Had a few hits and a few duds. Overall- decent

Lotsa hits! Time after time is my fave on the album.

I got into the car and the next song to play was He’s So Unusual. I couldn’t hear it properly so I turned it up. I still couldn’t hear it and thought something was wrong with my Bluetooth connection so I turned it up some more. 45 seconds later my poor ears caught the very loud BANG BANG drum intro to the next song. I quite nearly crapped myself.

2.7 1x i get the cultural significance but not really my style

So old school.

Звук 80-х. Как-то не вслушался пока ходил и слушал в наушниках.

3.4 It's so 80s. So incredibly 80s. To the point where it's gone past being aged and turned into a fascinating spectacle. I'll kiss you is a particular stand out, it's as though they just bought a new synth machine and had to try out every single option, but shitting hell, it actually works and she pulls it off. Girls just Wanna have fun obviously too overplayed and actually not a great song, extremely repetitive riff, hook and lyrics. But Time after time actually holds up pretty well on reflection. Can see why it's included on this list, I felt like an archaeologist trying to make sense of a past civilisation listening to this.

It’s ok, but not life changing.

Pretty good, not bad. Can’t complain

Really a 3.5. Lots of boppy fun tunes

Have never listened to the whole album. Obviously know the hits because they were everywhere on MTV & radio at the time. Synth-pop isn’t my thing. But I can dig this. Her voice is great.

I enjoy some of her songs. This album is good.

A solid 3. Some real pop classics and found this album good fun on the whole, but there were a couple of grating songs too. If the assignment was “give me some quintessential 80s pop” this would fit the bill.

I was expecting vacuous pop music in an 80's style. What I got was actually a little more interesting. Definitely your classic 80's sound but Lauper has a charisma that I wasn't expecting. At times she sounds like a proto-Björk. It's a shame that "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" has become the enduring hit that it is because I think it slightly misrepresents this album. There was a depth glimpsed in "Time after time" that I would have liked to see developed further. An unique and interesting artist producing music that isn't to my taste.

Not bad (though very whiny at times vocals-wise), but very same-y. Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time are definitely the best songs on this album.

me gustó menos estos temas que se siente un pop/rock muy plano, como el primer tema

Not a huge fan of her vocals - too shrill.

This record is so deeply symptomatic of its early 80s moment: big bang drums, super synthy, shiny to the point of sharp edged production--all of it dated. And it is so deeply entrenched in 13 year old suburban white kid 80s past. Whole thing is like digging up a reliquary when you were just looking for a pair of scissors in a drawer. But here's the thing: songs 1 through 6 are great. It's actually pretty awesome: high energy, super sad, gymnastic girl group Betty Boop voice, pop perfection. The last four songs fall off a cliff, but for six, Cyndi kills it.

Even in 1984 I dismissed Cyndi Lauper as vapid pop and I was only 9 years old! It turns out I was missing quite a bit. As I got older I learned there was a lot more going on with this album - one of the biggest revelations to me was when I learned she had covered Prince's "When You Were Mine," which I first heard (even before I knew it was a Prince song) covered by Ry Cooder in the Hot Dog ski-comedy movie. And I continue to learn about She's So Unusual - I recently read Greil Marcus's book The History of Rock 'n' Roll in Ten Songs and one of the ten songs he wrote about was "Money Changes Everything," the opening track on this album. Lauper has gone on to have a fascinating career and is obviously a lot more than the one-(or two- or three-)hit wonder that the childhood me thought she was. Would give this 3.5 if I could. It has run up against my 4-star Ill Communication ceiling, as I suspect may 3-star albums will for the rest of this project. A 5-point rating system has pretty obvious limitations.

Dated - But there are a few really fun songs here.

I wasn’t psyched when I saw this first come up. I gave it an honest listen, and there are a few great songs on here and a lot of 80s nostalgia.

Every song is a hit! Crazy to land an album like that.

As a child of the 80s, of course I know this album. I was pleasantly surprised to listen straight through, remembering the hits and enjoying the deep cuts. THAT SONG and Cyndi’s personality probably overshadowed what is an underrated and otherwise great pop album.

Funny to get this in proximity to a Siouxsie & the Banshees album - it's SO poppy in contrast though Cyndi has a similarly defiantly anti-fashion look that was super transgressive for the time. I don't hate the hits but do have a hard time not imagining Napoleon Dynamite slow dancing in Idaho to 'Time After Time.' & the rest might just be too over played to enjoy objectively any more. A great example of 80s pop, and likely a 4 star album if you can hear it with fresh ears.

This album has been collectively rated a 6.5/10

Didn't listen to the entire album in one sitting this time, mostly because I've heard it in pieces over the years. There isn't a single song I disliked, but there weren't any I was crazy about, either. Solid album, something I'd play if I were deep into cleaning my room and wanting an upbeat 80s playlist to listen to.

Four 80s banger ("Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop", "All Through The Night") and an almost forgettable rest. Nonetheless strong three stars for Cindy. 3,5

First half has got a lot of classics on, the second half is not nearly as entertaining. Also on album length her voice can really start to feel grating.

Really really fun

Pretty solid album. All Through the Night is a banger. I prefer Prince's version of Prince's When You Were Mine.

Fun album but I really dont like the sound of the 80's

Undeniably good singer, but I don't love the screechy singing she does sometimes. Some fun stuff. Just found out She Bop is about masturbation. Hadn't ever thought about it before, but that's fun. 3.5* Very nostalgic, which probably colors my review a bit.

Would not buy

A prime example of the grip that big, bright synth-pop and commercialism (five singles!) had on the collective 80s psyche.

Nice enough

paar goede nummers, geen mega fan

The final two songs were alright. Time After Time is definitely the stand-out

++: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, She Bop, Witness, I'll Kiss You, He's So Unusual, Yeah Yeah +: Time After Time, All Through the Night +-: When You Were Mine -: Money Changes Everything 6,7/10

Who is?

Catchy and easy to listen to, pretty good, not something that would be my go to though

If energetic 1980s synth pop is your thing, this is the album for you.

Few tunes here

This was kind of a mix. The obvious two big hits are great, but the rest of the album is scattered with decent and bad songs. Some of them were really shallow and almost unlistenable. I don't mind Cyndi's voice, but I still think this is getting an average 3

Love the hits, don't care for the deep cuts. I've heard women do the same affectation that Cyndi does in He's So Unusual before and damn it is so ear-grating. Awful track on an otherwise decent album. Strong 3/5

It's a pop classic, no doubts. Half of the album are 80s bops, super catchy and ultra famous by now. Powered by Lauper's voice and a very synth-centric production, they turned a bunch of songs into some of the biggest pop hits. Lauper is a great singer, she's charismatic, has a powerful voice and she's the life of the record. The production serves her very well, same as the backing voices. It's interesting that several of the songs (most of the hits) were "covers", as they had been written before by different bands. So no songwriting credits for Cyndi here. But if you take the time to listen to the originals, Lauper's versions are far superior (with the exception of Prince's "When You Were Mine"). "Money Changes Everything", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "Time After Time", "She Bop" and "All Through The Night" are so good, super catchy and fun songs. The rest was pretty mid, Prince's cover isn't that good, "He's So Unusual" is awful, and overall the second half is kind of mediocre. But the hits carry this record, and them being half the album, it's not bad at all.

# 535 - She's So Unusual She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper is a glitter cannon of pop perfection. It's got bounce, sass, and that iconic anthem that makes you want to dance like no one's watching (but everyone is). A debut so good it probably woke up the '80s and said, “Let’s party.” Ranked #184 on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time for good reason. Worth listening to for : Time After Time Listened: 30/07/2025

iconic voice and nice track layout

I guess

2.5 rounded up because those hits are forever classics

While it’s very poppy, I felt like this album had a few moments of genius. But overall not my style.

It was fun hearing Girls just want to have fun and time after time.

I know a couple of the songs! I enjoyed the energy.

Some great hits on this album

Wow that last note she holds at the end of Money Changes Everything is wild. After the first track, I thought "a little too poppy for me, but if there are moments like that, then I might end up enjoying this album. Let's focus on the positives, not the negatives today." And in general, this would be a really easy album not to like - "she's gonna say time after time time after time and I can't take it anymore ... who bops was it that was bopping again?" Plus her singing style is borderline annoying anyway (is she trying to be punk?), but you know what - I chose positivity, so I am going to stick to the strengths of the album. All The The Light had some awesome keyboard work that is reminiscent of Beach House, the synth was used to perfection, and the duet played perfectly. The very serious and intense back up vocals saying I'll kiss YOU" are hilarious. 3/5 ** Biggest Millennial White Man Take of 1001": I would rather listen to STRFKR's cover than Cyndi's version. But hats off to Cyndi for creating a timeless gem, my 80 YO grandma was just saying yesterday that she dumped her boyfriend because she'd rather go out to the bars with her girlfriends than be at home with him lol

Quintessential 80’s synth/power pop. Major chord sounds. Energetic. Displays Cyndi Lauper’s tremendous vocals. Some of the songs that would otherwise be very good suffer from too much synth over production - see All Through The Night and Witness. Girls Just Want To Have Fun is the smash hit as well as Time After Time. Other notables include Money Changes Everything and She Bop.

She bop, he bop, they bop. Bopology? The study of bop. All jokes aside that one WAS a bop

6/10 Even when her voice can get extremely annoying at times, it is a good pop record.

Another 80s pop album. I listened to this over and over, time after time (see what I did there!) as a teenager. I forgot how much I loved this album. Cyndi is a powerhouse.

I can see why Cyndi is/was such a popular artist, and huge respect for her. Its just not a style of music that I really enjoy and I find her voice a bit grating, but I'm glad I listened to the full album and I won't mind listening to the hits when they come on the radio.

Man, what is this album? Never have I ever heard of Cyndi Lauper in my life-okay. It’s the Girls Just Want to Have Fun album. I’m surprised I didn’t gleam that from the vocals of the first track. Yeah, it’s pretty good! Cyndi Lauper is a talented musician. I don’t mind the sound of this album, either. Extreme praise considering that I am the retired #1 hater of 80s music. Girls Just Want to Have Fun is the obvious highlight. Cyndi really stretches her vocals and the songwriting of the track thin, though it somehow manages to work in the end. The instrumental isn’t too shabby, either. I like echoey, clicking instrument that pops in during the middle of the track. Time After Time is a surprising pivot (and another song I’ve heard before – even more of a surprise), yet it’s a solid successor. The ambience hanging over the track is very pleasing – especially those backing guitars. It’s also a nice change of pace to have Cyndi chill out for a change. The dub/reggaeton influence on Witness is pretty neat, too. “Yeah Yeah” is really annoying, though. A complaint that would be entirely void if background Cyndi just shut the hell up. I’d normally consult the book to try and compensate for my blissfully ignorant musings about music, though I’m content with letting this one slide. I’ve listened to a good number of 80s albums through this list, yet I think this may be the first characteristically synthpoppy, non-new wave 80s album to reach my ears. Obviously, this music is worthy of preservation with how persistent the 80s sound has been within popular music. I feel like this is a solid rep for this kind of sound, too.

Pleasantly surprised. Can't believe so many of her hits were on this one album. 3/5

подряд довольно тяжело слушать, много выдавленного голоса. но респект ей за попадания в ноты)

Cyndi was never really my thing but this is a solid pop album of the time

well crafted 80s pop the singles are the best things here

Unusual

Pretty good

Outside of the two main titanic hits Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time, this is a quite usual 80s pop album, quite uneven and with a fair wodge of filler. When You Were Mine is a decentish Prince cover and She Bop has 10/10 boundary and bean pushing subject matter but is a pretty average bop in and of itself. The Betty Boop finale is mega nasty and brings the album to a rough, stinky, nails on chalkboard end.

Cool pop 80s album, some bangers, some bores here and there, but still left me with a good expression, i'd just come back for the hits, though

Fun, if a bit inconsistent. The big singles are the clear highlights.

This was really good! Sounded incredibly mature for a debut, and musically it felt like it was even more mature. Great shit.

Timeless classic. Simply easy listening. Didn't find it particularly notable other than the big hits however. Perphaps will enjoy more on relistens.

Who has anything bad to say about Cyndi Lauper? Great bubble gum pop.

2 songs familiar to me, the rest a little sedate for my taste.

This album was good! Cyndi can really write a catchy tune. Sometimes when she goes up high, her voice is a little too nasaly for me and gets on my nerves, but overall this is solid! Actually a 3.5. Liked Songs: "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" , "Time After Time" , "She Bop" , "All Through the Night" , "Witness" , "I'll Kiss You" , "Yeah Yeah"

Four hits that I am familiar with and one new song to add to a playlist. I give it a three out of five.

3 is my rating for this Cyndi Lauper album.

Fun album from the 80s with some hits but sounds dated now.

Good 80s album.

Highlights were “Time after Time” and “All Through the Night”.

Ehhhhhh

No diss intended, but I would rather listen to Time After Time on repeat.

I love 80s music but her voice just doesnt do a lot for me. Still had some good songs though.

This better have Goonies on it! Well it doesn’t. Way more hits than I thought. Girls just wanna have fun is pretty much unlistenable at this point and completely tied into the video. In hindsight I wish they all had more confidence in Cyndi’s amazing voice and didn’t portray her as a New Wave Betty Boop. Obviously the formula worked this album was platinum and she will be famous forever. Maybe a re-record? She’s so Unusual (Cyndi’s version) contains zeroes Gonnies theme.

Das Album wurde von Mai bis August 1983 im bekannten Record Plant Studio in New York City aufgenommen, produziert von Rick Chertoff und mit Beitrag von Mitgliedern der Band The Hooters. Lauper, eine amerikanische Sängerin aus Queens, New York, präsentiert auf diesem Debüt ihren eigenwilligen Mix aus Pop, New Wave, Pop-Rock und Synth-Pop. Besonders markante Songs sind: „Girls Just Want to Have Fun“, der mit seinem feministischen Statement und dem eingängigen Refrain schnell zum MTV-Hit avancierte. „Time After Time“, eine gefühlvolle Ballade mit sanften Harmonien von Rob Hyman, die zumindest in den USA Platz 1 erreichte. „She Bop“, ein kecker New‑Wave-Track, der in seinen Lyrics ein Tabuthema aufgriff und kontrovers diskutiert wurde. „All Through the Night“, eine ebenfalls erfolgreiche Single, in der Lauper ihre stimmliche Bandbreite zeigt.

Another 80’s album. This wasn’t too bad. Very average

excellent album cover

ok album... good singer... average songs... three stars for being better than Adele...

2,5 It's okay

Really fun album, the known songs were definitely the best ones on the album though.

It's okay. I wasn't really excited about her music, but she has high-quality and meaningful lyrics. Also, I think it was a good opportunity to meet an artist who is especially known for her most famous song "Girls just wanna have fun".

3.5 stars. High pitched voice can be annoying at times but overall it's a pretty good pop album with catchy hooks. Standouts are the slower "Time After Time" as well as "All Through the Night".

Love ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ and ‘Time After Time’ but the other songs just weren’t up to par. Listenable but not something I’d come back to regularly.

It's very of its time. It contains several stone cold classics, which alone make it a solid 3 star album, but the fact that track after track opens with a few bars of beat before the vocals come in makes listening to it more of a chore than a pleasure. It's fine as something to have on in the background, but - singles apart - the album doesn't really demand attention. Feels incoherent, as if you could move all the tracks around and it wouldn't make the slightest difference. I wouldn't have listened to this at all if not for this app, so for that alone, I thank you.

134/1089 - 80s pop with sperg-out vocals.

Quite okay. The Singles are classics

Big singles are good, not a big fan of everything else tbh

So many good 80s hits on here. Enjoyed and solid overall, just not music I’d really listen to enjoyably for myself

Some classics and also some trash

A very fun album, a 3.5, pushing a 4 - felt like I should be getting ready for a night out

literally captures 80s pop so well, so iconic and i love her sound, the songs have quite a lot of variety aswell so it’s all round a good album

A good collection of pop songs that showcase Cyndi Lauper's incredible voice. I liked the ballad tracks the most.

Kinda average, not bad at all though

Representativo de los 80. Comercial y prescindible

Great energy with the most truthful titles

I’ve heard a couple songs. Of Course Girls Who Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time, but that’s just due to radio play and the grocery store. Don’t tell my wife, but some of these songs are straight bangers. (Ie. She Bop)

Cyndi’s debut was a fun romp back to the vibrant colors of the early 80s! It doesn’t hold up well forty years later, but it was giant back in the day. Comes out of the gate very strong, the first six songs all got heavy radio play. Then fades a bit after All Through The Night. Her sassy vocals are certainly unique (lots of squeals and squeaks) laid over energetic new wave created a light, fun mood. L = (2.75*s) cutesie J = (3.4*s) a fad I enjoyed and remember well…

don't get me wrong, I love it, but it def won't get as many plays as some other ones - aside from the biggest hits

had higher hopes :(

Classic 80s. Probably great at the time and contains some good tunes. Enjoyed hearing more of her work but don’t think I’ll go back to whole album… time after time remains a classic

Girls just wanna have fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuun

Quintessential 90s pop diva with a debut album that could have been a greatest hits record ...wait, is that a good thing? 3.5/5

Peppy tunes and non-morinic lyrics, but the nearly incessant drum machine drove me to distraction.

yeah i enjoyed this! its pretty cheesy, but there are some good hits on the album, such as "girls just wanna have fun" and "time after time" that deserve to have lasted in the musical stratosphere for as long as they have. i particularly enjoyed yeah yeah, feels very quintessential of the timing of this album. overall, I listened twice through and enjoyed it!

Hed halt here vel Klassiker debi. Das macht's de fascht scho chli zom Problem vom Albom. Entweder send t Songs eifach okay oder ech ha sie eifach scho vel z vel ghört. Es esch halt au ned ganz min Musigstil.

crazy how many well-known songs are in this album. although it's not my still, it's still very entertaining music!

Didn't realize this was released way back in 1983 and believe it or not, it actually aged pretty well. I admit I hated this album back in the day, I was just starting university and the last thing I wanted to hear was a flaky, girly and weirdo, Cyndi Lauper, she bopping her way around my radio, with MTV force-feeding us annoying music videos about girls having fun. It's funny, I think she might be even more popular now and she's stayed relevant through the constant use of her songs in films and TV, but also because she is talented, has amazing range and the old stuff is just so damn nostalgic. I'll never be a fan or admit to listening to her as often as I do, but you have to admit, I never saw this coming. I expected Lauper to be a one-hit wonder and fade away quickly. Well, she must be doing something right, right?

Hér eru bangerar og níundi-tugurinn í frábæru formi, en líka talsverður filler á milli. Dúndur smáskífur, mellem LP. When you were mine, sem ég hef ekki heyrt síðan áður en ég hlustaði á Dirty Mind, er svo miklu slappara en originallinn hans Prince, og mun slappara en mig minnti. Rúmur þristur.

The '80s production got pretty tiresome but overall it's actually a very good pop album. Obviously the singles are classics and her voice is its own thing but quite a few other bangers on there too. Favourite tunes: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Witness, Money Changes Everything

Good but not my type

Enjoyed it, feels like a solid definition of 80s pop, Time After Time was and remains a phenomenal song

Bedroom pop let’s fucking goooooo. I yet again didn’t have a name to put to some of these songs, and now I do. She’s got some bangers on this one

I like Cindy Lauper very much, but this was the first album I listened to completely. It's interesting how she plays with her voice seeming to imitate a doll or a good girl. However, I was expecting more, I don't know, I guess I don't really like the extreme voice changes.

This is a really good album and it’s one of the better new wave synth albums I’ve heard. It’s just not a genre I really like that much. All through the night rips though.

This was a joy. The first half is the commercial one: the hits, the camp synthpop and a slightly overwhelming production. The album really settles into its own on the second half (what I suspect would be the Side B on a vinyl): playful New Wave pop with nods to B-52s and Split Enz. Cyndi's vocals are great throughout and there is an arch playfulness to her that none of her contemporaries (Madonna, Sheena Easton) never managed. This will go on repeat.

Classic 80’s pop music. Three hits that were obviously enjoyable and the rest was “fine”. Kind of got bored by the end.

05/05/2025 Bang average. Lucky to get 3 stars.

A moment in time. Prince's sound?

As someone that lived through the 80's (born in 1970) this album couldn't sound anymore 80's if it tried. I've never heard the whole album before, it wasn't (and still isn't) my kind of music. Very listenable though, and I can understand why it was such a huge hit, but I wouldn't actively seek it out for a second listen.

Enjoyable and nostalgic

Cooky broad does 80s pop I get it. Embassador to the 80s femme fatale style, but there is nothing explosive here. Its just good. Sorry for all those gen x listeners with huge nostalgia around this album, its just okay.

I heard Witness as Wet Nurse which was funny. It was fine with a few bangers.

Sounds like the 80s. I enjoyed it more than imagined. Some great covers in here (including Girls, didn't know that was a cover!), and some interesting co-written songs. Kind of got bored by the end but overall a fun listen

This really surprised me, it was very fun to listen to, reminded me of a female informed new-wave take on Born in the USA.

Classic 80s pop … what’s not to like?! ❤️

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun remains iconic. I would call the album as easy listening.

Sounds quite of it's time but very fun to listen to and loads of catchy songs. All through the night my fave. Will deffo relisten.

Some fun new wave pop songs, but I'm gonna listen to Sparks if I'm in the mood for this stuff. Not every song works or effectively uses Lauper's quirky voice. Standouts: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Time After Time, I'll Kiss You

Poppy and fun

Quick listen at 38 minutes. Lots of synth, very 80s sound. Not my favorite decade for music, but there are a lot of hits on this album. I can see why it's on the list.

There’s some solid songs on this album, like Witness, I’ll Kiss You and the first song. I like when she gets a little experimental with her vocals. Never realized that the person who sings for Fever ray/the knife sounds just like Cyndi Lauper. Love all the synths!!!

well shit, I enjoyed that. It's campy and so 80's and i love it for that. Cindy Lauper has a great emotive voice. She sounds like could go punk at any moment in this record. For me it's a 3, but almost a 4 - I enjoyed it more than Disraeli Gears ffs.

80s electro pop, not bad, not my taste

Strong first half, the singles are classics for a reason. Good 80’s vibes and production. I just didn’t like the back half of the album- it got a bit weird

A good throw back to the 80s and a all well rounded good sound

Highly listenable album. Many hits from it as there should be. Unfortunately some have been overplayed but still enjoyable.

Less my thing, something in the 80's heavy synth vibes I find too gimmicky, at least to my hear. But there some well deserve "classic" in there for sure.

Divertida década, Lauper está en la primera fila.

I'd put Cindi Lauper in the one hit wonder category, but this was a pretty good album.

fav songs: Girls just want to have fun

I'm torn on this one The songs were so catchy, I really enjoyed this album. The singles weren't even the best songs But on the other hand, her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Big yikes 3 ⭐️

I guess it's fun^^

I’m sure that at time of release this alb was really game changing and stood out for how unique it was. Now it’s 40 years later and it’s just okay. The big singles Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time still land very well, but the rest of the album just feels like any other 80s pop. I don’t doubt that this album was incredibly influential and launched many musical careers. I just think the successors went on to outshine this album in a number of ways.

Time after time is an absolute classic that makes the album alone worth listening to. Outside of that it’s very much a particular cup of tea in my opinion that would enjoy this album.

she meant it when she said girls just wanna have fun. fun album

Unremarkable but not unenjoyable

Girls just wanna have fun makes this album

Classic 80s, some great songs, great voice, wouldn’t put it on myself but definitely enjoyed listening to it

Very fun album, enjoyed this a lot

The sound of the 80s nostalgia in a nutshell. All tracks are good but not necessarily great. Listened to this a fair amount growing up. Now the synth and vocals sound too dated for me. Wish this rating system had more range. 3.5? 3.75?

Gets you in the mood for singing and dancing, a staple of any 80s diet. Nothing groundbreaking or particluarly impressive. 3.2

Crazy to think this was her debut. Great album, I’m sure it broke all kinds of rules and norms.

Cyndi Lauper is good! The album is a little front-loaded but I can’t hate on anything that has “Time After Time” on it.

a shame the rest of the album doesnt even come close to the two great hits it contains

Iconic singles and surprising B-sides. However, the overall albums feels lopsided.

Pretty fun album, vocals are unique if a little annoying sometimes. Cover 4/5

knew more songs than i originally thought. girls just wanna have fun time after time all through the night TIL that all through the night was cyndi originally. not TVD song 😭 enjoyed money changes everything. decent rock/pop album. getting miley’s plastic hearts vibes from her voice and song style.

Weird but fun pop music. Some more fun than others. Random thoughts while listening: does Cyndi play harmonica herself? Is this UFO noises? Is she trying to be Betty boop? Is she breaking?

This record is a lot of fun. Her voice isn't my favorite to listen to but, the way the blend her voice with the music sounds really good.

I want to like it but the 80s synths have aged poorly and just sound cheesy. The mall pop vibes get on my nerves.

Some solid stuff here Edit Apr 15 2026: 4 --> 3. I like the 80s sound, just not the pop-y-ness as much

This is the epitome of a fun album throughout. Sadly, front-loaded with great tracks like the anthemic Girls Just Want to Have Fun and When You Were Mine (which has Prince's hands all over), but losing track by the end. Not bad, but definitely not amazing. Still, if this somehow found itself in my collection, I'd probably keep it and spin it sometimes when I just want to let my feminine side free. ⭐⭐⭐

Not my cheese but I guess I do respect Lauper for what she’s done with this. She seems pretty cool and it’s better than most pop from that time

I flip flopped my opinion as this as I was listening to it so many times. I kept going between getting won over by how weird and interesting the songs were, and hating her voice so much that it was too grating to enjoy the redeemable aspects. For every interesting detail I appreciated, there was one I disliked. I was going to say that many of these less pleasant details sounded like bad renditions of Prince or Michael Jackson's most notable mannerisms, but then thought about when this album came out and that sort of didn't make sense. So maybe she actually foreshadowed those aspects of their iconic style by debuting drafts of them, which they perfected. It ends with a bang ("Yeah Yeah") but I still don't think it won me over fully. But I do respect her artistry for sure. Fav tracks: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time, All Through the Night, Yeah Yeah

Liked the songs I’ve heard before (from the radio), not so much the ones I didn’t know.

Not my style but clearly influential 65/100

Decent pop. Flashbacks on primary school discos in the 80s.

Holy fuck there are some crazy bangers on here. "When You Were Mine" goes so crazy. And obviously the massive tunes rule completely. She like cannot sing, half of the songs are way under-written, and the entire B side is filler but the grooves rule so who really cares. It's the fucking 80's baby.

Forget about "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Time After Time" and you're still left with a pretty alright album. I'm kind of amazed by Lauper's consistency to pair thoughtful lyrics with a great 80s' pop sounds (though, that could be due to a producer").Regardless, this is a fun album. I underrated Cyndi Lauper before, thinking she wasn't unusual ~enough~. I won't that make that mistake again

La première toune fonctionne aussi bien que de se faire traîner au bout d'une chaine sur un chemin de bois par un truck pendant 5m5s. Time After Time est l'ultimate slow. Correct.

fun pop. classics are masterpieces

All of the good songs of this album were released as singles. Everything else was "meh"

Jeg var fint underholdt. Aldrig hørt hendes navn før, men kendte et par numre.

Ikke verdens dårligste pop album. Heller ikke verdens bedste.

She’s so unusual! If by unusual you mean completely usual

great pop album. unfortunately i hate music

Really frontloaded, as in the first four tracks are the singles or memorable tracks. Fades a lot as it goes on but a great start

I enjoy Cyndi's iconic hits like Time After Time and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. However, beyond those tracks, I found the rest of the album didn't quite capture my interest

Helt bra 80 - tals pop med många bängers

Did not sound as dated as I anticipated. Obviously some legendary pop hits and an 80’s icon but not a full album of good songs. But worth thenlisten

I remember this album from the 80's landing with a series of hits. She Bop was scandalous! :-) My favourite song is Time After Time in it's incarnation as a jazz classic. :-)

This record bops. Gets a little weird at parts, but still moves. Dancy, 80-synth, parallel punk. You know half the songs, and the rest are just as fun.

meno peggio di quello che mi aspettavo dai

Better than expected. Never a big fan, but I mostly enjoyed it

I never tire of hearing the opening keyboard burst of Girls Just Wanna. I also enjoyed the Prince cover, although it didn't quite have the same energy or smut as the original. Time After Time is just LUSH. The rest of the album is early 80's production formula heavy. No surprise. Still decent.

A good 80s pop record. Maybe not 100% my music but I like the vibe nevertheless.

It's okay. There's some hits I never much cared for and some mediocre stuff.
