maybe i don't like rock afterall

Very easy to listen to pop album with songs beyond the well known hits. Nowt wrong with this but personally I’m unlikely to revisit it

Enjoyable but forgettable. Liked that at the end it got a little weirder, would have liked that more the whole way through.

3/5. Like many 80’s pop albums, Cyndi Laupers “She’s so Unusual” suffers most from sounding extremely outdated at times, there is a handful of that 80’s cheese that tends to be an instant no-go for me. However, the production here is also much better than many other 80’s albums which somewhat saves it. That and when it hits, it has some great pop songs like the iconic “Time after Time.” Bit of a mixed bag on the whole, but there’s some great pop songs to be found on this record.

Happy pride month 🌈

It’s raining men girl have fun with the hog

Growing up in the 80's I heard only the hits of Cyndi Lauper now more than 40 years later I hear for the first time the album containing her greatest hits in The Netherlands, 'Girls Just Want To Have Fun' & 'Time After Time'. The other songs sounds familiair to the songs already known. So a trip to 80's synth memory lane but not one with a lot of depth or new insights. 3/5

GET ME OFF THE ROCK

Heard some before; 3.5; This is a very fun album that I feel like is a great example of 80s pop/new wave. I thought I would find this too cheesy or overdone, but it actually wasn't that bad. I actually found it to be a very tight and punchy. Lots of fun riffs and interesting sounds and the album doesn't overstay its welcome. Favorite Track: Money Changes Everything

That was kinda fun. I admit, I was sick of the video on MTV back in the day. I've always considered her talented, even if this is music I don't gravitate to.

Classica musica figa e sexy degli anni '80.

Low 3 - pretty good. Girls just want to have fun clear standout! Bit annoying towards the end

I mean... ok?

Remember when Cyndi Lauper was a massive star, right up there with Michael Jackson, Madonna, and Prince? Huey Lewis remembers.

time capsule stuff here. Quirky songs, somewhat shrill or grating voice but somehow it comes together. I'm not sure it is required listening for newer generations.

Full of bangers. Fun album.

Ikoniskt 80tals album

Best Track - "Time After Time"

fine pop writing, a decent song selection, and pretty good vocal performances per se, but the style grates over the length of the album.

I also just wanna have fun

80-tallet i et nøtteskall.

Quand elle y arrive, ça donne des pépites mélodiques (Time After Time), féministes et festives (Girls Just Wanna Have Fun) ou provoc et un peu sexy (She Bop). Top : Time After Time Flop : I'll Kiss You

It's great to hear Girls and Time again A sound that helped define the 80's Never heard the album before, but not finind any further gem's in this collection Giving it 3 Stars for the longevity of those two amazing songs

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/k8T9q8-uWiQ

girls just wanna have fun is wel een banger. time after time ook wel. maar daar is het wel mee gezegd

A couple of hits and solid fillers.

regular

Some classics, and kept me engaged. Her voice drives me crazy though Rating: 5/10 Favorite Song: Time after time

A fun listen, and another quintessential 80s pop album from this list. Lots of bangers from the radio, which reminds of sitting in the backseat of my dads car as we traveled.

"Time After Time" and "Girls Just Want To Have Fun" are such classics.

Coolt, häftigt album. Ska höra mer på henne

good 80s pop album with some banger songs, but would need another listen to fully appreciate

Hyväntuulista 80-luvun poppia. Suuret radiohitit Girls Just Wanna Have Fun ja Time After Time kuuluvat kohokohtiin, mutta muutkin kappaleet olivat kelvollisia.

Even on the songs I don’t like so much there’s great sounding synths to enjoy.

Not the biggest Cyndi Lauper girl but this album does speak to the time in being super similar to the vibe that Madonna an The Bangles were also putting out

A couple bangers...

It's very poppy. Some songs are quite good.

Entertaining, creative, and music — and better to listen to now than when I was a kid.

Front loading the hits was a definite thing in the 80s, eh? The Madonna comparisons aren't really fair to either. Lauper clearly stays in a New Wave pop lane while by the time Madonna was making records she was clearly very much more influenced by club culture. For a brief moment I guess they shared some fashion influences.

I can imagine a weird girl in the 80s being too obsessed with this and acting like this is her personal bible, in an endearing way. However, as someone who does like 80s pop, I find that the instrumentals are often way weaker than the vocals. I wish they’d done more in the vein of I’ll Kiss You.

Not mind blown by the album outside of the two famous Girls looking for funs, again and again !

She has a great voice when singing. Squeals like nails on a chalkboard. Some bangers brings this up to a 3 for me.

In between a 3 and a 4 for me. Unique voice, huge bangers and a nice cover of a Prince favourite

1980’s in a nutshell

Jam-packed with your local radio station's favourite cheesy 80s pop hits.

fun. she is such a badass - always unafraid and authentic. speaks to the 80s kiddo who loves punky brewester

Sounds a bit dated but still enjoyable

Enjoyed the singles 3.5

Pretty good. Famous songs, pop. Nothing other than the well known songs jumps out.

Favorite Track: Time After Time

« Girls Just Want to Have Fun », tout d'abord. Le deuxième choc s'appelle « Time After Time ».

Just ok for me in terms of repeat listens but I do love the Prince cover and time after time, incredible debut album

It was a little too synth poppy for me. Songs were well written

Parts were enjoyable, parts were shrill and difficult to get through. Inoffensive pop, I probably won't return. 5/10

80's vibe

Standard 80s fare

why isn’t cyndi in the wwe hall of fame yet?! total bullshit. i was already aware of “time after time” (amazing) and “girls just wanna have fun” (sweet) but i ended up loving “she bop”. that’s a great song. this album was like an insight into cyndi’s cartoon mind. so much fun

Time After Time

80s memories.

Turns out Lauper is one of my “fine in small doses” artists. I like her take on synthpop but found her vocals a bit trying for a whole album.

Finalement c’est une bonne chanson quand même Time after time aussi !

It's a bit too much 80s for me to stomach at once.

Some fun songs!

Must-have for 80s-Fans. Many of her greatest songs, but 2 or 3 skip-songs.

Some really iconic songs in this one, pero outside of that the music doesnt vary much from ok pop and im not the biggest fan of her voice. For the girls 3/5

Super fun pop offerings, with of course the absolute banger Time After Time

Bon album, complet 3.5/5

... isn't she just! I obviously knew the two big singles here because how could you not! I'm happy to hear them on the radio now and again, they're a fun listen but the album just isn't something I can see myself coming back to.

I guess Cyndi Lauper is my Bob Dylan. In that I enjoy the songs a lot more when they are sung by other people.

It's completely fine. Obviously it's very 80's, but it's quite fun and upbeat. Sometimes her vocals are a bit shrill and annoying, but there's a few good tracks in here. I'm definitely not revisiting this, but you know, it's fine.

yeah, this was an interesting one. Very 80s, not really my thing but better than I had expected.

Not a bad album, with 3 classic tracks, whatever happened to Candy Lauper?

She's So Unusual de Cyndi Lauper me sorprendió.

goooooooood

dated same synth n kick bass repeated throughout the album

Album 177. She's So Unusual (https://open.spotify.com/album/1FvdZ1oizXwF9bxogujoF0?si=A6fjeUr8SVSJMOieN3CsMw) — Cyndi Lauper (1983) I'm so in 80's last days. This pop album rocks, despite being dated. 3/5 Liked: — Girls Just Want to Have Fun — Time After Time — She Bop

New wave has never been my thing, but this is a classic. Some fantastic, pioneering songs on here, and some I'd rather not hear again.

So many recognizable hits for a debut album. Not for me generally but I enjoyed the listen as a novel diversion from my normal listening!

Some massive hits and a lot of personality. All the sonic hallmarks of 80s pop music are here and gleaming. I respect the hell out of Cyndi Lauper but I thought as a whole this was just alright. We’ll always have “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time” (and I did enjoy the masturbation anthem “She Bop”), but the rest didn’t leave a big impression on me.

2.9/5 I quote enjoyed this album. The only track I didn't really like was the 2nd last song which felt like a really odd choice to put in there. Didn't really fit in with the style, but overall pretty decent.

She Bop - banger

80s to the fullest. 5/10 Will I add this album to my library? NO

fun, just not my cup of tea. First half was great, second half got a bit weird.

It was fine.

3.5/5 some bangers n prince cover

I did not realize the cover was an Annie Leibowitz photo. Interesting. And I’d totally forgotten there was a Prince cover (“When You Were Mine”) on here; unfortunately, it hasn’t aged well. The album’s a lot of fun, and I’d forgotten how it was considered new wave at the time.

She’s So Unusual has a few songs that really land for me, but the album as a whole feels uneven. She’s not an artist I connect with deeply, but I do enjoy Time after time.

Kinda fun; boys should have fun too.

The classics are still classics. Rest was fun

hits! mixed bag! fun! I’d call some of the album a little problematic but at the time they went with “unusual”.

Good pop music. Excellent singles and a handful of solid deep cuts.

Gran disco de los 80. Un par de clásicos.

A product of its time.

Went in excited for some 80s pop, but left pretty underwhelmed honestly.

it was nice listening to the 2 cult classics in the album although im not really a fan of them. dont like lovey dovey type songs like everything in this album but yeah yeah and she bop were good imo

Cool music, some ugly lyrics.

That was good

5/10 Very fun and peppy. Very 80s.

alright

Jeg anerkjenner Girls Just Wanna Have Fun og Time After Time, selv om jeg ikke er så betatt av dem. Sammen med Money Changes Everything og When You Were Mine (min favoritt), kunne Side A stått som en milepæl for 80s pop.

«Time After Time» forøvrig en av de beste popballadene fra 80-tallet. Kanskje noensinne?

Pop rock, art pop, new wave.

Never thought to listen to this album front to back but I’m glad I did. Cyndi Lauper has the kind of voice that tricks you into thinking she has no idea what she’s doing as a singer until she hits a note in a way that knocks you down. Thematically it’s delightfully brash. Love me an album with a killer masturbation anthem. Is it weird to say this album feels proto-“Brat”?… Anyway, this probably wont stick with me but it was a super fun listen regardless.

3great classic hits. The rest is very meh.

het werd na een tijdje wat eentonig, maar wat een lekkere nummers op deze plaat. ik moet bekennen dat ik alleen girls just want to have fun en time after time kende, toch blij dat ik mijn cyndi lauper repertoire heb uitgebreid

Cyndi can really sing but man this music can get a bit stale after a few songs. 3.5/5

not bad very funky and i love the rock elements in it. however personally not my type

some bangers, though Cyndi's voice can be grating at times

I didn’t know much of Lauper aside from the hits, but for some reason, I had this unyielding faith that good times would materialize if I gave the record a little patience. I think I was right? The record won me over in a way I wasn’t expecting and is more than just a delivery system for the obvious singles. The real kick was hearing how much character Lauper brings to everything else - she sounds mischievous, wounded, ecstatic, theatrical, and completely herself, often packed into one song. It's loud-and-proud with 80s sheen, but if you can get past that? It's a lively and oddly touching lil diddy.

No doubt that Cyndi + Pee Wee Herman would’ve thrown a weirdo bonanza rager back in the day – and I’d be 110% on board, crimped hair and tutus fully floofed! And while I admire Cyndi as an “alternative” pop star and as a quirky girl fashion icon with a unique vocal style (I see you, Chappell Roan!), this album falls disappointingly flat. Of course I appreciate “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” as an undeniable empowerment anthem and “Time After Time” is a great single too, but I wanted the rest of the tracks to tell me more of a story. The silly and fun unmistakably 80s pop/punk sound is pervasive but is it enough? “All Through The Night” How could I forget this lil gem? So sweet, silly lyrics… “until it ends, there is no end!” Real groundbreaking stuff hahahaha I still like it

Fun & lite. Good album.

Some good. Some not

Pretty fun

Bastante upbeat. Funki. Los ritmos son divertidos. Como para bailar brincando a lo loco

Not my cup of tea. Besides a couple of singles I recognized, she’s not really for me.

Destaques: Time After Time, Sho Bop, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun

She’s got a couple good hits on this, the rest is…. Well it’s ok

i liked it fine but not enough to give it a 4. might return to some songs

an ok album, I like some songs, but a lot are very dated sounding. Cyndi is great but im not in 100% on this album. Some strong songs, and some weaker than.

I like Cyndi Lauper and glad this album happened. There are some great pop songs on this but the stinkers stink. She Bop is one of them. While I was glad she covered one of my favorite Prince songs, it’s not a great cover. Great album art. I’m very ambivalent about this one.

On paper, this is an album I should really like - it’s synth-pop, new wave, and released in the 80s. But it just didn’t do it for me. A lot of that is down to Lauper’s vocals, which I’ve never really liked. Any tracks where she is at her caterwauling “best” are immediately an absolute non-starter. I’m also not the world’s biggest fan of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun”, and never have been - but it is catchy. I much prefer “She Bop” to it. “Time After Time” is a beautiful song, and I could listen to it all day. Between this, “She Bop”, and I suppose the general catchiness of “Girls Just Want to Have Fun” means this scrapes 3*.

Not the greatest music ever, but some of the most fun!

Fine, but not my thing

Pure 80s fun but I'm not sold on its inclusion on this list. Several iconic songs but also several more deserving of being called forgettable and/or filler.

Never listened to a Cyndi Lauper album but recognize a few of the hit tracks. Excited to explore something different for me. Part of the charm of this list. 80s synth pop rock! That drum sound the synth, it’s all here. It’s actually a very easy sound to get into, but one that I don’t typically choose to throw on. It has a very 80s sound of its time. Part of the issue is that an album like this grows old on you quick vs encountering these songs on a playlist or radio. When pop music is good, it’s unbelievably catchy. Can’t deny that here. The hits are hits for a reason. It’s filled with an energy through the whole first half. I think Time After Time is the stand out. She Bop is also great. This is really fun. Probably as much as I would enjoy 80s synth pop like this. Thinking a solid 3. Gets a little weirder near the end, but overall it’s fun creative pop music. Was debating a 4, but feel like the back few songs fell off a little.

Pure POP which is untainted by the modern affliction of self-important politically laden messages and/or pessimism. Perhaps not all songs have aged kindly, but the carefree optimitism ameliorates that sufficiently well. 3 stars for being a direct link to better times.

Pretty fun

Notable Textzeile: We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night Zwei Megahits die jeder kennt, aber auch sonst klingt für mich alles irgendwie nach Soundtrack-, bzw.

Good album with one song that my aunts and my mom love!

this was actually pretty good, parts of it i didn’t like but the rest was not like i thought it would be

She's So Unusual is a very 80s album for a very 80s artist and yet I still had an absolute blast with this project as a lot of this still holds up as some very charming Pop even with its' very "of its' era" sound. I only really knew Girls Just Want to Have Fun and Time After Time from this project and I was quite surprised with how much other quality music was here to enjoy. Money Changes Everything, I'll Kiss You, and the quite solid cover of Prince's When You Were Mine are all great additions to this project that really help sell the over the top yet oddly relatable presentation of Cyndi Lauper. I don't think this is a perfect time capsule by any means especially with the second half of this album being extremely inconsistent and significantly more dated than the first. Even with that said this album feels as free and expressive with its' fun and funky feelings as the album cover and I quite appreciate that. Not an all-timer best album ever but as far as Pop music goes I can definitely get a kick out of this one each time I go through it.

Blinded by the "Girls just want to have fun". The rest of the disk is kinda good, love the synth and the bass. I put 3 because it's not my cup of tea, but if someone pick randomly up this album, he probably kinda make his day.

A fun slice of slightly quirky but still quintessentially 80s pop. ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun’ and ‘Time After Time’ are both all-time classics, of course, but the other two tracks on side one are really good as well, especially ‘Money Changes Everything’. Had the whole record been at that level it would have been a solidly 4-star album, but unfortunately nothing on side two reaches the heights of the earlier tracks (‘She Bop’ probably comes the closest). Cyndi Lauper’s distinctive voice might put some people off, but I think she sounds great. A strong 3 stars overall.

Starting pretty strong but without realising it becomes pure background...

amazing album cover. good songs. hoped it would be just a little bit better than it was but it was good. i love the 80s.

I knew her name but none of her songs. It's decent. Quite the change of pace from the typical britpop in this list.

It was good but I just wasn't super into it. Some songs just kind of annoyed me. There are some songs that you hear all the time in the supermarket and stuff like Material Girl and Girls Just Want to Have Fun and I've kind of always been annoyed by them.

She is so unusual speak on it. Monday does change everything. Girls do just wanna have fun. When you WERE mine. And it's time after time. She do bop. All through the night she do bop. They all witnessed it. Kiss me if I'm wrong. That's so unusual. Yeah, yeah ig. Favourite: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Least favourite: He's So Unusual

A fun album.

Solid pop effort

I was able to listen to this record three times in a row without getting tired. It’s a buoyant, cheerful listen with some stellar pop singles which had me singing along at several points. She does sincerely come across as an unusual presence, especially when she gets slightly more freaky on the mic.

Cyndi Lauper gets a solid 3 from me, some standout tracks which i really enjoyed but sadly less than half hits for me

very repetitive in the lyrics

I was reluctant to listen to this one. I didn't really know much about Cyndi and probably couldn't have confidently named a single one if her songs before this. After listening: I get it! A good album. I might not listen again soon but I am glad I opened my mind to it.

Cyndi kinda cooked with this one

That 3 song stretch in the middle is huge, along with Girls...but those four songs just balance this album out. The other songs are pretty meh. 3.5/5

You know what? I enjoyed this. I knew the hits but the other songs were good too. Time After Time is an all timer. Fun album. I had Britney Spears debut last week and this one blows it away.

Has some iconic synth sounds that shaped my emotional perception of the 80's from various movies. She has a good voice but sometimes leans too hard into it for some songs. Very influential and culturally significant.

She wrote a few tunes that I really enjoyed but, for the most part, her music is a little too pop oriented for me. Great songwriter, phenomenal vocalist and tireless humanitarian. You know you're doing something right when Miles Davis covers one of your tunes.

Very solid 80s pop rock. First side of the album is back to back tunes but it’s very frontloaded. B side still decent but not consistent in the very high standard set by A. Still enjoyed it.

It's easy to forget how much Cyndi Lauper dominated the 80s. She, Madonna and Whitney are basically the 80s pop holy Trinity. Honestly this album is a charming relic of the era. Full of pop, new wave, post punk....and a Prince cover!? (How did I miss THAT?) While I was quite aware of this at the time because pop music if the era was inescapable, I was a kid and didn't give this much thought. (Hell, I was a full grown adult when I found out She Bop was about rubbing one out!) Revisiting it was far more rewarding than I expected. A great example of the pop landscape of the time.

Bright, bouncy new wave pop built from shiny synth hooks, snappy drum-machine beats, playful guitar accents, and exuberant, elastic vocals moves like a vividly colored shopping mall in the mid-’80s—fun, loud, and instantly catchy, even if the sugar rush outweighs any deeper staying power.

3/5 - Not a huge fan of synth pop, and can't say I would have loved this more if I listened to it when it was newer, but an enjoyable listen with a number of banger singles.

Kaks suurt revolutsioonilist lugu "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" ja "Time After Time" näol, aga ülejäänud album on sellise pendeldava kvaliteediga ja pigem tavalise 80ndate kõlaga. 2.9/5

It's a solid album, not one of the greatest but definitely important considering it's cultural impact

Do girls really just want to have fun?

Not bad. My favorite song from here turns out to be a Prince song. Her voice reminds me of Luanne from King of the Hill.

Pretty good, some classics. Can't complain and the nostalgia of some car trips while hearing these songs hit me good.

Highlights: - Girls Just Want To Have Fun - Even though I disagree with this song, (I think everyone just wants to have fun), it's unbelievably catchy. - Time After Time I've heard a lot of these songs on the radio but never put a name to the titles. They were just popular songs that'd never leave my head She's got a powerful voice with masterful control over it, I do think the instrumentation is lacking however. Solid 3.

This is like pure feel good 80s pop! Pop feminist to its core in the best way. The second half of the album kinda lagged a bit compared to the first half which in turn lowered my rating a bit. I don’t have much more to say about this album besides I enjoyed it overall. Top Songs: 1) Money Changes Everything 2) Girls Just Wanna Have Fun 3) When You Were Mine

so enjoyable and consistent

Some bangers, some forgettable

Two songs were good.

Some bangers, nice light pop. Fun stuff.

The hits were solid! The others ranged from having good elements (great chorus melody, cool progression, etc) and missing something to being a little flat for me. Before the streaming era, I'd probably buy the CD to rip Girls, Time After Time and She Bop with maaaybe a couple others like the Prince cover and All Through the Night before leaving the CD somewhere.

Favorite track(s): Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Time After Time, She Bop

Never been a big Cyndi Lauper fan, but she is the perfect snapshot of the 80's. Her music, her look, her New Yorkah attitude. I know she's had a long and successful career, but in my own dumb head, she never left 1983.

It's not that unusual imo but it is pretty good. Favorite Tracks: When You Were Mine, Time After Time, Witness, I'll Kiss You

I was never much of a Cyndi fan when I was younger, but recognized it was worth giving it a shot again now. I still don't love it. The standard hits are what they are. It's nice that there was a bit of a feminist punk flair to this album -- refreshing for the day, in retrospect. That said, I still won't find this sliding into my playlist anytime soon unless I'm having an 80s party. Just not my jam.

pop punk? eh

This one is fine. 3 stars

Love the synths, love the vocals. Lauper is certainly great at writing pop songs, and the vibes are just so much fun. Definitely gets a bit slower on the second half, but this has some great songs and is an album I would go to for some good commercial 80s pop. Favorites: Money Changes Everything, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, She Bop, All Through the Night

Solid classic. Great in the morning. Great to use to make you more upbeat. Alaska disco pop.

Banger album. This girls been having fun all her life.

Not bad Cyndi

The hits hit. Not sure about the rest

Epitome of 80s pop in my mind. Which makes it catchy as hell and fun, but apart from the obvious (sadly overplayed) songs I didn't get an awful lot out of it.

I just wanna have fun too, and I did, time after time.

Gargs just wanna have fun.

Some guys just wanna dress in full drag and perform “girls just wanna have fun” to a room full of strangers at brunch

Reminds me of that image of the woman with the bag of chips on her head.

Really weird but has some solid hits. 3 stars

(Berem zj wiki in se morm I guess spet mal posipat s pepelom, nism vedla, da je bil album tok uspešen at the time!) "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" je še zmer a banger. Alpa "Time After Time" - ta je nivoje nad drugimi komadi na albumu. Uf, določeni deli so tak painfully 80s sounding - in a bad way. K "Time After Time" je in a good way, po maš pa sintesajzer zvoke, k dons sam ušesa bolijo. "Witness" mi zveni The Police inspired? Jupi!

A decent collection of pop songs that have a very unmistakable 80's sound with the inflated drums, synths and voice with a lot of reverb. This album does a lot of the things I don't like from this particular style and time, but I somehow didn't mind it and I even liked a bit. I am not crazy about it, but I appreciated how this girl shows a lot of passion with her quite extravagant way of singing and does hit some catchy choruses and moving moments, specially in the big singles "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and "Time After Time". First one is a big and powerful feminist anthem and in the second one she shows a more intimate and sad side that is very emotional. Besides the vocal, the instrumentation is just fine. They suffer a lot from being too artificially inflated from all the effects, but they accompany the voice well, without doing anything that really stands out. Apart from the sound inflation, another problem I had with the album is the second half being a bit forgettable and bland in comparison with the first half. However, I wouldn't say they are bad songs. Overall, a nice pop album that I though I would dislike.

Mencion especial a la peli de cate blanchett que me enseño Time after time

Would have been cool to be there when “girls” was released

Girls just wanna what😳

Girls just want to have fun and Time after time are timeless. The rest of the album is okay.

I enjoy the hits on this album

Fun but a voice not quite my bag.

I don't think this is aging too well. Maybe a few great songs, but after those what do you have? I was really losing interest after song 5.... (I remember When You were MIne as a bit faster...maybe I was too drunk? A great song, but less frantic as I remembered it.) A couple great songs does not make a stellar album no matter how great those songs are (then and now). 3 disappointed starlets.

Money Changes Everything - 4/5 Girls Just Want to Have Fun - 5/5 When You Were Mine - 3/5 Time After Time - 5/5 She Bop - 3/5 All Through the Night - 4/5 Witness - 3/5 I'll Kiss You - 3/5 He's So Unusual - no rating Yeah Yeah - 2/5 Average score: 3.5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️

DID NOT LISTEN

While the first half of She’s So Unusual shines with classic tracks, the second half leans into dated synth-pop that dulls the overall impact.

Super Pop Album! Kann man Nix sagen!

Own it

😜im such an 80’s girl 😞time after time 🤪 IM SO UNUSUAL

“Time After Time” and “All Through The Night” are worth the price of admission. Just some ‘80s goodness.

Girls just wanna have fun, and you know what? With this record they do exactly that! Not the sort of thing I’d go out my way to listen to, but it’s harmless and jovial and a good time, I can respect it. Also I genuinely believe Time After Time is the single greatest pop song ever produced.

Another Album, Cyndi Lauper?? Ugh see if I can make it through!! First song was catchy, then the album got good, very good, several hits. Good record! Finished weak except I enjoyed "He's so unusual". Solid record.

80's pop isn't usually my thing, but Cyndi crushed it on this. I never realized "Time After Time" was her song. This has a really impressive tracklist.

Best- Girls just wanna have fun Love the Betty boop bit very fun

106/1001 First listen. Ahh the ‘80s! Even as a metalhead, everything else on the charts was still pretty catchy. I thought I was too cool for this when it came out but it was an enjoyable listen today. Hell, I’ll take She bop all day, any day. 5/10

Not a bad pop album, but the baby talk at the end was a little much. 3/5

She’s definitely unusual. Girls just wanna have fun, time after time, and all through the night, those are the only songs I care about. However, it’s a fun album that I did not spend time wishing to end.

Hey Time after time! Die is ook wel bekend. Lachen zeg.

between annoying and really fun! loved "kiss you" and "time after time"

She's not my favorite but all of these songs were played too much back in the day. There's not a lot of filler on here which is good.

Everyone just wants to have fun!

Fine album, can't stand her voice.

Never been a fan of her voice but time after time is a banger

Really good quality fun pop music with added 80's nostalgic flavour.

A classic

Decent album - bit of its time, but much more substance and quality - more Time after Time than Girls just want to have fun

Good album, close to a 4 but I couldn’t quite get there. Time After Time is great.

Starter fantastisk. "Time after time" er en tidløs klassiker. Holder ikke hele albumet ut.

Great hits plus some stinkers. I can see why it’s memorable.

girls just want to have fun 1983 united states pop

I don’t know Cyndi, I think you say a lot of really good things in here and have a powerful message, but the 80s electro-pop kind of unnerves me. Maybe that’s the point, like how plasticky consumerism still carries a deep message, but I probably wouldn’t put it on repeat.

Some real catchy pop tunes on here. Pretty good overall. Highlights: “Money Changes Everything” and “Time After Time”

Light and upbeat for the most part with a few tracks that I continue to listen to today. Enjoyed discovering the wider album.

The A Side is genuinely incredible and the final four tracks are blooming horrible

I like. If there was a 3.5 star or even 3.6 star option I'd go for that one. The hits were hits for a big reason, and the synths are real cool, as are the brief moments of 'she pulled this off?'. May change to a 4 as I listen to this more.

has her most popular songs, not bad

Wow! It's about as pop 80s as it gets. The production, female vocal style, 80s synths, gated drums. So... very... 80s. It's vibrant and interesting. Really solid songwriting. There's a reason there's been a few great covers of Time After Time. It's just a well written song. Will I come back to this album? Probably not. But I'm really glad I got to hear it with fresh ears.

Better than I expected. Definitely heard the early punk influence and Talking Heads vibes. I've never been a big fan of 80s pop and this isn't really my cup of tea, but I'd definitely take it over Madonna, Wham, or Whitney Houston.

I didn't think this album would age very well, and I'm not entirely wrong, but it's better than I remember. I had this album when it came out. However, it got worn out on the radio and I haven't listened to Cyndi Lauper in MANY MANY years. It's a decent album and a very good representative of the alternative pop of the time. Pitchfork: 8.0 Rolling Stone: Top 500 Albums #184 (2023) Best Songs Girls Just Want to Have Fun Time After Time She Bop All Through the Night Witness

You know what? It's a bop. Sure there are really only 4 quality songs on this but they are perfect for their place in time. I would go 3.5 if I could.

A good combination of rock and synth pop, the synths do are very nice to listen to, and Lauper has a great sound, some of the songs are just duds lyrically though. Still a fun album that doesn’t take itself too seriously it seems

Very fun - reminds me of my mom since this was what she grew up listening to. Favorite is Time After Time.

late 90s! we love it

Big 80s but better songs than I expected.

I never would listened to this. I truly enjoyed it however. Certainly a product of it’s time!

This is one of those albums where it is a hit song machine. It’s just chock full of massive hit songs that made massive cultural impacts and you can hear most of this album in movies and tv shows, it’s a wildly important 80s pop album. Here my small problem with it, her vocals are only tolerable in small doses. Like each of these songs are totally bangers but listening to them back to back just highlights how crude and grating her voice can be at times. In fact I’m sure this point has been made before but I hate this baby singing thing, like Madonna did it in her cover of “Santa baby” and while that is by far the most egregious example of this, this specific album features a lot of Cyndi alder doing a similar thing on a smaller scale which over the course of the album was more and more apparent as you went through it. Honestly I don’t hate his album and I don’t hate Cyndi Lauper, but I might hate her voice I found out.

Really solid album. I don’t love 80’s pop rock across the board but I did not know how many bangers were on this. Girls just want to have fun, time after time, she bop, all through the night are all top shelf. Great work Cyndi this was a pleasant surprise to hear all the way through.

I was really excited to listen to this album and while I enjoyed it, I can definitely see why Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Time After Time became the hits. The "He's So Unusual" (hey Betty Boop) into "Yeah Yeah" was really interesting though and there were other fun songs - another very album-y album. And SO very 80s with the synth and general vibe. I can see why she was an it girl. I feel so basic with Time After Time being my favorite song but it just hits and reminds me of Romy & Michele so what's not to love

Yes daar is een vrouw! Catchy, fun, geweldige 80s synths.

Was leuk

Not fantastic, not my style. Listenable but did not enjoy

favorite: all through the night

Time After Time is still incredible I don't care how many times I've heard it. I've never actually heard any other Cyndi Lauper songs other than the radio hits so I was pleasantly surprised to know that this album is just good all around. I also really love 80s synth like people don't use that anymore it's so specific to the time period and it's a vibe.

Not my thing. Was aight

Time After Time is such a great song. 3,5.

Very 80s which isn’t really my thing, but the hits are good, catchy songs. Found myself singing aling and wiggling my booty a bit, 3 stars.

It's fine - the hits are really good and the rest of the album isn't bad, but it's not exactly something I'd be actively wanting to listen to a lot.

Good good can Cindy pauper

Probably 3.5.

Turns out I knew most of the songs. Fun album, slightly outdated dare I say? Still good

I kind of dreaded this when I saw it come up. But you know what, I kind of enjoyed it. Beyond the hits (which are many) its a solid album. And its a debut, what? Peak 80s right here.

This album is full of cheesy ‘80s pop that we’ve all rolled our eyes to in parties and grocery stores. That was kind of my experience this time, too. Objectively, I can’t give this a 1 or a 2, but I also can’t say I enjoyed it. I think a 3 is fair for this album; not something I’d turn on on my own, but not something that I actively despise either.

This album was interesting. It did feel like each track did something unique musically, and the synthesizers were used in an interesting way compared to most 80's pop albums. However, the experiments didn't always work, and I found myself preferring some of the simpler tracks. I'm also generally not a huge fan of this sort of pop music, even though this album was more interesting than normal. Favorite Track: Time After Time

Good upbeat vibe, songs kinda got repetitive, definitely liked the vibe, lyrics and vocals lacked somewhat

She was a great pop artist 😎

It's aight, it's just raw, oozing 80's. The classics are fun and good. The rest is fine but forgettable.

Bangers on here

already love the cover art and i know some of cyndi’s most famous songs are on here so im excited

Cyndi Lauper is such a charismatic singer. Consisting the songs on the A-side this would have made a really good EP of 80's pop mixed with new wave influences. The B-side tracks of the album are bit too easy to forget eighties nonsense, maybe excluding She bop, which is a decent track. A-side is 4/5 and B-side 2/5...

Cyndi's music and video's were all over the mid 80's Sky Trax and eventually Music TV, quite popular in the Finnish pop music landscape. I was, however, deep in the heavy, speed and thrash metal scene and on my way to the underground music culture. Cyndi's colourful look and cheerful music was something that started to rub me the wrong way real fast. I've heard many of the songs on this album at one point or another, but probably tuned them out, either on the dial or mentally. Now listening to these tracks I have a different reaction, it is fresh to hear the attitude she has (and I realise how wrong it is to call a 40 years old music fresh), especially when I remember the general attitude prevalent in that time. I had my own battles with the establishment, or the fucking patriarchy if you will, trying to mold me into a shape they'd created and expected me to slip into. I'm usually not too keen on new wave pop sound, but it suits this one like a glove, so I'm not going to complain. This album is clearly not your average pop album, but maybe that's just me and my experiences talking. Then again this is my review of said album so it's totally correct and on point.

3,5 stars there are highlights but overall...meh

good typical 80s pop album.

Ha, she wrote a song about female masturbation.

Some unexpected sounds in this album

It’s so peak cuz 🥹😣

Didn't capture me, other than "She Bop", which is a bop

3 out of 5. Fun little album for what it is.

I forgot just how many hits this album had. I wasn't a big Cyndi Lauper fan back in the 80’s but you couldn’t escape Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and it was such a fun video. And Time After Time is a legitimately great song. This album is classic synth pop and the 80’s wouldn’t have been the same without it.

I remember not enjoying Cyndi Lauper very much in the 80’s but after listening to this album and realizing I knew half of her songs, I think I just didn’t give her enough credit. Her songs aren’t very complex and the message is always superficial, but the beats are catchy and her voice grooves with the synthesized sounds. Overall, this was better than I expected.

They say if you have nothing good to say about something … so, the one positive thing I can say about this is that when I hear Time After Time, I remember it playing when Napoleon and Deb were slow dancing in the gym ( “I like your sleeves. They’re real big.”) and then Pedro goes to get a drink, sees the poster and decides to run for class president. So, maybe there is hope for humanity yet … but probably not. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y4aCZcVvLdE

Alright - maybe a bit 80s pop for my taste, but I don't mind new wave music so preferred when she leaned into that a bit more. Something about When You Were Mine reminded me of Kate Bush. This is a high 3 for me. Time After Time is a great song.

This is fun stuff - songs that those of us around at the time will remember from the radio: "Time after Time," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun," etc. 3 stars because while it was never my favorite thing at the time, it evokes a fond reaction of "aww yeah, Cyndi Lauper"

She's So Unusual, Cyndi Lauper's 1983 debut album, is a great debut album. It cleverly presents Lauper's sound and references with several covers she has made her own, like Prince's When You Were Mine and Jules Shear's All Through The Night. It also conveys her as a young independent cool woman, with hits like Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, She Bop, Yeah Yeah, Money Changes Everything; while also showing a more sentimental side of hers with her self-penned ballad Time After Time. She's So Unusual checks all the boxes a good debut record should check, and it gave Cyndi Lauper plenty of directions to explore in the next one.

Classic full of bangers. I have always had a soft spot for time after time.

As a kid I always thought this was Madonna... Boy was I wrong.

This was sort of an odd album. Obviously it has its hits that are spectacular, but the rest was just sort of okay. And it really ends in a weird way, I don't get the point of a skit and whatever right at the end, just skip it and have the album be 9 tracks. But it was still good, just felt strange. Favorites: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time

12/8/25 fav track: time after time looooove the transition from he’s so unusual into yeah yeah

I expected to hate this based on Girls Just Wanna Have Fun but there were actually some pretty cool songs. I had no idea she wrote Time After Time.

I really didn’t like Cyndi Lauper based on just singles, but this made me warm up to her a bit. And don’t yell, but if I’d discovered this when it came out would it basically be like discovering Chappel Roan today?

Better than 3 but not 4. The Hits here are "Girls wanna have fun" and "Time after time" which obviously slap, but the other songs can't quite keep up Somebody said "Too much Cindy Lauper" regarding her voice and style of singing.

155/1001 Cyndi Lauper - She's So Unusual Heard before? ❎ Revisit? ❎ The two big hits, in particular Time After Time are great and the rest of the album i had fun with. Yes, it does lean a little too much into the cheese for me, but not much I actively dislike it.

Fun pop
