d por si no m gusta mucho pearl jam, los temas q mas m gustaron fueron los menos escuchados increiblemente, no se si ponerle 2 o 3 estrellas, creo q voy a elegir 3 pq cuando escucho even flow m acuerdo d jesus en skate

Good in parts… some nice guitar solos… but overall too much same-same. I find the album lacked depth or complexity.

I had a hard time deciding how to rate this. On the one hand, it’s pretty nostalgic - “Even Flow” takes me right back to hours of playing Guitar Hero, and several of the other tracks were things I listened to as a teenager. However, I don’t think it really holds up; the vocal style gets grating pretty quickly. I don’t think I can fairly give it more than 3 stars, but there was a time I liked it better.

STANDOUTS: Even Flow Alive Black Jeremy OVERALL: 3/5

I've found it hard to decide how I feel about the 'between' albums that plot the course from the 70s classic rock I like to the 90s-00s garage rock I like. I know without some of them, we never end up with some of my favourites; the grunge movement is a crucial piece of the puzzle and this is a significant band and album of that movement. But I haven't got into most of them as much as I had hoped. I gave it a few listens and enjoyed it overall but it never quite felt like something I'd buy or consider essential. It's consistently good but never quite crosses into 'great' for me.

MOR grunge

There's not a single bad track on this album, but Vedder's vocals are carrying most of the weight. His voice and melodies pair so well it will almost put you in a trance, until a mediocre guitar solo pops up or you focus too hard on the drums. The outro was the most gripping part, especially the hidden track.

I suppose this album was decent. I do think some more variety couldn't hurt. The singer has a distinctly gravelly voice, but he seems to be able to make it smoother when he chooses. Not my favorite album, but I see the appeal.

Very much let down by the vocals

I love the music. I don’t care for his voice. His voice is probably perfect for this music but it just doesn’t work for my ear. Actually, it’s not necessarily so much his voice as the way he uses it. I don’t like the screaming. I think it’s a great album. All my reviews are based on how I respond to it, completely subjective. For that reason, I give it three stars.

decent. Only a few really good tracks, everything else is like middle of the road

It wasn't too great but I really enjoyed it still

I really dont think this one deserves to be called Grunge, and nowhere near Nevermind. Not too bad dad rock record, but not that interesting for me.

I really liked Even Flow. It sounds very similar to Soho’s 1990 single Hippy Chick, but that’s surely coincidental. Other tracks I liked: Why Go, Jeremy. Anthemic rock with shoegazey stuff going on in the background.

Just like Soundgarden the other day, I didn’t hate it as much as I expected to. I really don’t care for Pearl Jam. But they’re not bad. I’ve had Better Man in my head all day.

I like this music, but hear it all the time...

first 3 song slap and then it all kinda just blends together idk

classic 90s grunge rock that feels pretty nostalgic - all of the songs are pretty fun to listen to, albeit a bit repetitive.

Probably the first non-Nirvana grunge that's clicked for me at all. "Evenflow" genuinely rips, and I was pretty alright with the rest of it

Rock n roll

I just really don't like Pearl Jam. And I know that's a me problem, but it doesn't make me like their music any more. That being said, this was a solid rock album that I'm sure others enjoy a lot.

Liked, great debut

The boomer vibes are strong in this one. Ist mir zu cheesy und langweilig. Trotzdem nicht kompletter Schrott. 2,8.

I remember watching the Jeremy music video on MTV when I was waaaay too young. The school shooting imagery kinda fucked me up … and now look at where we are in America. Great nostalgic album, but I never cared much for Eddie’s singing. I wish Seattle was still known for music like this.

Was not looking forward to this album but the amount of variety really surprised me. My favorites were “Even Flow” and “Jeremy.”

Never really was into the grunge thing. It’s not bad and he’s got a powerful voice.

No bad

Classic Pearl Jam. Next step beyond Nirvana. Not my cup of tea. Never had been, but for "Evermore" will be a great album

5/10 okay I guess? it’s not terrible, but it’s impossible for me to get into grunge I have no idea how these guys are famous

Back in the day this blew me away. Not really my thing any more.

My problem with Pearl Jam is that almost every song sounds exactly the same to me. It's fine, it's not bad, but it isn't something I would go out of my way to put on, or listen to an entire album of really. Even the more popular songs are just kinda "meh" to me. I can see why people like it, and overall it is a decent album, but it doesn't do a whole lot for me personally.

Hell yeah borther

Listened to this album on a windy day at the beach. My drink went flying off the table. I still don’t know whether it was the wind or the music. Relentless.

Wow, I thought this was all the same song?!

I didn't listen to this pearl jam album. I DID listen to Bruce Springsteen's "darkness on the edge of town" which I enjoyed unexpectedly as I've never been a Springsteen fan. "Racing in the street" made me cry.

Good hard rock

The hits are HITS but the rest is just filler mostly. Too many AUOOOOOHS and YEAAAAAAHSSSSS

Niet mijn smaak, maar wel leuk

Black blijft toch wel erg mooi en sad Rest van het album ook wel nice Maar had er meer van verwacht op basis van de hits die ik ervan al kende

Not as bad as I thought, but still not for me.

Not good, not terrible.

And the hits just keep on coming! I’m not the world’s biggest PJ fan, but they were far and away the catchiest grunge band of the time. I get a little bit bored, listening to this record, having been so familiar with all of the hits for years but that’s not fair assessment to judge this album because the hits are GREAT! If I had to, I would rename this album 7 out of 10 by Pearl Jam.

Good album with great players, but I've never really gotten into this band, though I've tried in the past. Sonically very pleasing with incredibly tight playing and Dave Krusen doing a phenomenal job. It's primarily Vedder I don't particularly resonate with. 3.5

A genuinely likable album. I spent years rolling my eyes at Pearl Jam but enjoyed this loads. Felt very much in my wheelhouse, sonically. 90s, grungey, not sure what else I’d want.

It's good, but this record is responsible for Nickelback and Creed. Favorite song: Deep.

Pretty good just not my jam. Low 3.

I don't really like Pearl Jam, but this is a very well made album. 3.4.

Never been a big Pearl Jam fan but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Still not crazy about them but thought this was a good album

Didn't think I liked Pearl Jam based on their songs I'd heard before but this was pretty good.

A classic, great sounds Top tracks: Even Flow, Black

Enjoyed this much more than I thought. Alive was unbelievable. Overall really solid album with good average and a few good highs. Strong 7

Yeah, like for sure dude.

If it weren't for the vocals this would be a 4

Even Flow and Alive were already on my Spotify liked library, but I only like some of Pearl Jams music. Eddy's deep monotone voice is quite recognisable albeit the lyrics are just boring and unimaginative punched out in Eddy's one key delivery. The album, or rather Pearl Jam in general, is all very very samey... apart from a few guitar riffs that momentarily grab your attention in some tracks... but the whole thing, we'll it's just lacking, so it's a middle of the road 3 from me.

I can't listen to Even Flow anymore because of a video that ruined it, but Pearl Jam is a grunge icon and I respect that, 3/5

This is like RockTM. Like how I imagined all of 'rock' music and every 'rock band' sounded like when I was 13.

Rather outdated for me, but still ohne of the best rock albums of the 90s.

Got some good stuff on here, and it's their first album! But, not enough for me to run out and buy it.

Not a huge fan of this album but Black is a great song. They usually have at least one great song per album

This album is really good But not my thing at all I have had a copy of it for 15 years and I'm not sure I listened to it until today I think its good but led to alot of bad music that it inspired Very high three

I've heard 3/4 of this album a million times but rarely the last couple of songs. Never really got into Pearl Jam, I know a couple of other songs from elsewhere but this band really never truly grabbed me the way Nirvana did. Great first 6 or 7 songs though.

forgettable

Ten is decent. It has some very good songs, but it also runs the risk of sounding too samey at times. Black is definitely the standout track as it contains so much emotion and really enables Eddie Vedder to show off his vocal prowess.

ok, I gotta say...I had never listened to them previously. If I had listened to them in the 90's early 00's by review might be different. Not a fan. Loud, poor chord transitions and many of the songs sounded similar and yet others didn't seem to fit the others...a mish mash of songs, sounds, instruments, lyrics....I gave it a 3 only because the group has done songs, per friends of mine that enjoy them that are better....otherwise I would've given it 2 stars.

One of those "classic" 90s grunge albums, we all know at least a few of the songs, if not all the words ("weeba wedda wodda beeda beddaaah made o' concrete! UHHH yeah"?). Wild to think that Jeremy was written in a time when a kid bringing a gun to school was absolutely unheard of. Cool for nostalgia, but as 90s bands go I'd still rather listen to Nirvana or the Smashing Pumpkins. At least they had the balls to go after Ticketmaster.

Quite energetic, but lacks a bit of darkness, and I don't like very much the singer's voice who sometimes seems to be forcing it. But definitely the representative of its time.

Slam bang crash mumble shred. Pearl Jam has a sonic formula that works for me. Not sure why early 90s PJ gets put in the same bucket as Nirvana. A much bigger rock sound.

3.5 really

Ein solides Album

I didn't like it at first, but warmed up to it.

Meh. A couple good songs. Not a fan of grunge.

Like, I acknowledge this is an iconic record but I just don’t love grunge nor Eddie vedder’s voice

couple good ones

Some great tunes, but I didn’t find myself getting fully immersed in the music. It wouldn’t be the kind of music I’d regularly listen to but it was decent.

Once - Good opening to an album, eased me in. Wasn't sure what to expect but enjoyed it nonetheless. Even Flow - A classic. Not too heavy. Very fun song. Alive - Nice song, lyrics pretty cool maybe quite sad? Like this one a lot. Great voice. Wicked guitar solo. Why Go - Slightly heavier, liked it. Not my favourite so far but by no means bad. Long guitar solo which was fun. Black - Slower song, nice. Like the vocals on this one a lot. Jeremy - Bit more boring don't hate it but won't be listening again any time soon. Ocean's - Lovely beginning. Great vocals on this one. Love the high notes. Felt very cool listening to this song. Porch - Really felt the bass in this one, the drumming was very expressive in Porch. Garden - Felt powerful. Vocals and lyrics really huge in this one. Again, really feel the bass. I like this one. Deep - Rock and roll and grunge. Dirty song liking this. Drums at the end very rock. Release - Last song, feels like a last song to an epic album.

Just around the turn of the 1990's, two bands emerged in Seattle who would change the music industry forever, excoriating the sheen from the latest decade to reveal a new movement which became known as grunge. In June 1991, one of these two Seattle bands released "Ten", and the other… hated it. That's right, Kurt Cobain viewed Pearl Jam as sellouts, a hodge-podge of musicians who'd grown bored of playing in other groups, stopped washing their hair, and leapt on the "grunge" bandwagon with airbrushed and diluted songs. So while "Ten" was celebrated by many for incorporating a streamlined, classic-rock influence, it was decried by others (including Mr. Cobain) for compromising the rough-and-ready, DIY approach that made grunge so special to them. I respect Cobain's opinions, but with the greatest respect I would not want to hear a rough-and-ready version of "Ten". Grunge-adjacent alt-rock has never been my comfort zone: I'd only heard "Ten" once before getting it here, and incidentally I'm one of the few people on the planet who just can't get on board with "Nevermind". Anyway, after listening to "Ten" a few times, it has grown on me… but not all the way. There's no question that this is a blockbuster album. Production is polished and clean, with Mike McCready's multi-tracked roaring guitars never losing definition and a Dave Krusen's bright, tight snare sound driving every track forward. Eddie Vedder's gruff growl relates stories of murder, homelessness, mental illness: interesting concepts, but the lyrics lack much depth and narrative is usually sacrificed for flashy rock solos and riffs, making it all feel a little performative. Still, nothing wrong with flashy rock solos and riffs: musically, "Alive" is a real powerhouse anthem. It boasts an excellent, fluid guitar line leading into a strong, epic hook. "Oceans" is another highlight, with its cinematic rumbling drums, and haunting howl over the slow build summoning a tempest. Then there's "Black", a bleak, bitter and beautiful breakup anthem, and "Release": as close to melodic bliss as Pearl Jam allow us to get. There's a lot more in here for a guitarist in particular to latch onto - the maze of tangled, twisting arpeggios running through "Garden", the blistering solos in "Alive" and "Even Flow", the nice touch of slide in "Deep" (a switch to 3/4 time was much appreciated) - it all defined the sound of the record for me more than Vedder's vocals or lyrics. Meanwhile, the harder rocking tracks feel a bit homogenous and indistinct from one another: "Why Go", "Porch", and even opening track "Once" lost me a bit. On the whole, I didn't love it but "Ten" might have brought me a few baby steps closer to appreciating "grunge." Perhaps by the time "Nevermind" rolls around on here, I'll finally see the light.

Pretty solid. Some things I liked and some I didn’t. A good 7/10

Mocny w chuj Taki ciężki intensywny Ale dobry

Probably a band I should like more. I just can't.

A little. More metal than I usually like, but good.

I did get a little confused and thought that Pearl Jam did Afternoons and Coffeespoons which is a great song and in my head Eddy Vedder should look like Ian Gillan in 1975 but confusion over. I did like some of the songs at the time they came out and I’m happy enough to listen to them now - Jeremy and Even Flow are classic but I don’t need to listen to them again necessarily for a while. These are probably more a 3.5…

I remember what a breath of fresh air this and other grunge albums were back in the early '90s after years of hair metal dominating the airwaves. But boy did I sour on this genre pretty quickly. Objectively, these are solid songs, well performed and arranged and all that. The lyrics are pretty cool, and Eddie has a real gift for melody, which is always a plus for me. "Jeremy" is a truly exceptional song. Killer guitar riff, and Eddie's melody is so unusual and un-intuitive that it shouldn't work, but it sticks with you the moment you hear it. (And the song's message is powerful.) So there are moments of brilliance on here. (Black was another tune that grabbed me on this listen.) Boy man oh man do I dislike his vocals. I can't stand the way he pronounces things, or his extended melismas. And when he holds notes—especially low notes—I don't know that they're actually flat, but goddamn they feel like lead pipes landing in my lap. I just can't take him. And although the band is solid they're nothing special. Plus, some of the songs go on way too long. So, yeah. There are a few PJ songs I dig, but overall, please no.

Another 90s album that I appreciate and think is good without really connecting with. Lots of good songs on this. Nothing that I consider one of my favorites or even something I ever will want to listen to again.

Not my vibe, a lot of electric guitar

Providing my quick thoughts on this record song for song as it's a friends favourite of all time. I'll provide my overall thoughts at the end. Riff on Once is sweet. I've heard Even Flow so many times I can't pick out anything I want to comment on. It's like asking me to describe the flavour of water. Alive is a better of the popular tracks. Again Even Flow isn't bad - it's just there. Why Go has a couple spooky vocal deliveries, rippin' guitar solo. Surprised upon research why I've never heard of Mike McCready. Seems like he should be more famous based on how well known Eddie is. Black is my fave of the four well-known tracks. Jeremy is so angsty holy. Still remember the angsty music video from 30 years ago. Good Bass on Oceans. Wonder if that's why. Because Bass is also in the Ocean. Porch opening chords kinda remind me of Rush. Probably has nothing to do with them as a grunge band but I mean hey I like it. Sounds like he has a lot to say on this song but I can't really tell. Breaks down into another cool guitar solo part. Wonder if Eddie does any of these or if it's my boy Mike (I know him now). Garden pretty chill song that ends with another long ass guitar solo. Who would have thought. Deep sounds like a song they would have extended jam sessions on stage. Not really my thing. Release has this cool intro thing where the guitar begins and it morphs into EV's voice. That's cool. Little bonus track at the end there. Doesn't really work in Spotify streaming days anymore does it? Anyways, like almost every bonus track, needless, useless. Overall, I will admit I liked this album more than I'd thought I would. Probably because there's more here musically than just Eddie's voice and lyrics, both which I can do without. As I mentioned in the above, it's clear Eddie gets the claim to fame for Pearl Jam but I think there's just as much to be said (if not more, if you don't care for his voice like me) for the other musicians. Like a fifth of nearly every song the guitar solo's are given space. But maybe most of that is actually Eddie Vedder as I do note that he's rhythm? I'm not sure. I guess after this listen I can say, I get the Pearl Jam love - still don't get the EV love though.

Even Flow from back in the Rockband/Guitar Hero days! Alive is a classic. A 3* for me -- can't see myself revisiting, but it is a classic with lots of good tracks. Enjoyed Black, Jeremy.

My review is based solely on how many times I have heard this album already. It is solid. Nothing more, nothing less.

Curiously soulless

Never been much of a grunge fan outside of the occasional listen to Nevermind, but this is solid enough to deserve a good rating. The big singles (which is like half the album) I've heard plenty of times before and they still land well. Songs like Even Flow, Alive, and Jeremy, the opener Once has a killer chorus and guitar riff too. I'll probably give it more listens in the future and it'll likely grow on me, but for now I'll just leave it at I enjoyed it.

Скучно Ровный классический рок, но ухо при первом прослушивании не зацепилось

I’ve tried for decades to understand why people love this album. I think it’s ok. I have it on CD. I play it every now and again. But it’s not even my favourite Pearl Jam album let alone favourite grunge album. The singles are fine, memorable and inevitably overplayed. I tried again today but this record still doesn’t really do much for me. It’s fine. I get people love it.

listenable groovaceous dad rock which i must respect but i just don't care for this dude's voice. i begrudgingly err on the side of not liking it. 3 stars i weep

Rock album, found a few bangers in there which def went on my liked playlist but I wasn’t too excited about the rest of em

I don’t know about this one man. Nevermind they are cooking with the last song. I also like Alive because Kyle likes it

Never been a big fan of Eddie Vedder's voice but this is a solid album to be fair

Listened Before? Surprisingly, No Album Art: 1 / 5 (have always hated this album cover for no good reason. I just think it looks lame as fuck) Of the early grunge acts, Pearl Jam is not among my favorites. I think perhaps because they always toed along the poppier end of the spectrum. Album opens with Once, which actually is pretty cool. Pearl Jam is almost singularly defined by the Eddie Vedder's unique vocal delivery. It is at once passionately gravelly and seemingly able to distort spacetime with its flexibility. Once is a kind of garage rock tune with proggy influences. Even Flow is one of the many megahits this band is known for. Certified jam with that wall of sound effect going for it. Never listened closely before, but there are some trippy background effects going on; glad I pulled out the headphones. Back to back on mega-hits with Alive. Not my favorite of their songs tbh, even though the guitar work is pretty solid. Why Go pulls them into a funkier rhythm. This one has some dance to it; I'm into it. Black stands in stark juxtaposition as it dims the lights and clears the dancefloor for something reminiscent of a slow-dance. I actually love this song and feel like its one of Pearl Jams best displays of range. Damn this album is deep. Jeremy is a jam even though the mixing sounds like shit. Oceans is kind of doo doo TBH. Like it wants to be epic, but never actually goes anywhere. Porch sounds kind of like DMB woke up and said "we can do grunge too." Honestly not a bad song, but it feels particularly campy. Okay... after Jeremy I honestly stopped caring and this all started to slur together. There are plenty of great songs on here. The hits are undeniable and Once is a strong lead into the album. Release, is probably someone's favorite deep cut, but I honestly couldn't care about Vedder's crooning for 5 minutes with a lethargic build. It has a certain fading of the mist effect going for it, but ultimately its a miss for me. The trippy 80s style instrumental following was unexpected, but really not necessary. All said, I'm unmoved from my original position. Pearl Jam has undeniable talent and put out some smash pop-rock hits, but aren't really the act for me. This album was great for the first half with a spotty back half that is at best forgettable, and at worst outright terrible. I'm a soft 3 / 5 here. Added to Library? No Songs Added to Playlists:

Listening to this album for the first time in a long time has turned me from a Pearl Jam agnostic into...someone who kinda likes them now. The first three songs are such an incredible opening and Eddie Vedder's caveman vocals lend every song an epic feel. But, the bubblegrunge sound they pioneered isn't totally my thing. Nobody did this sound better, but the bands it inspired were like Nickelback and Creed. Still my least favorite of the big 4 grunge bands, but at least I understand their appeal better.

Hit machine. I knew most of the songs but enjoyed getting to hear a few more. Like garden and why go, especially now that I’m a parent. Wasn’t magical but solid album front to back.

Yep. Solid PJ album. Not my kinda of thing, but I can dig it.

The thing that really strikes me in listening to this is just how dark the early 90s really were, when songs about kids killing themselves in front of their classmates, or thinly veiled incest, could be mainstream top 40 hits.

A few standout songs but I find a lot of it just kind of exhausting now.

A lot of tracks sounds same-y. I like it more than Nirvana but stilt. Most songs just didnt hit the spot. The outlayers aren't enough to save this album.

It's fkn pearl jam dude, everybody heard this. I missed the craze in the 90s I'm never gonna really get it, but Even Flow and Jeremy fucking bang. STEEEZUSSSSSSSSSS

ok tier sympa

Average Jam

I cannot tell you how much I listened to this thing when it came out. Amazing then, not as good now but them's the breaks.

# 88 : Ten, by Pearl Jam was a Good album. There were some good songs and hits on there. I like Alive and Jeremey but the sound can be a bit repetitive and miserable. Better then average, but not great.... Fave track : Even Flow Listened : 16/10/2023

Once was good

Really good music but I have an unpopular opinion on this very popular album. I don't really like the vocals and the tone of the singer (who seems to be the main reason most people love pearl jam). It just doesn't click for me personally and it feels a bit out of place with the rest of the music. For this reason I can't give it 4 stars even though I enjoy those songs. (77%).

I have explicit songs blocked on Spotify so only listened to about half. There was a period of my life when I really tried to like Pearl Jam. I know Ten is Pearl Jam’s biggest album, and Pearl Jam was one of the biggest groups of the 90’s, but I’m more of a fan of grunge from the same time period like Soundgarden and Alice In Chains. Plus I don’t really like Eddie Vedder’s voice. I’ll give this a 3 star.

Good background music. Not a lot of stand outs but its good

Oldschool rock album with a nice blues/country touch

I can see the appeal, but not a good album nevertheless.

Meh. Never really enjoyed Pearl Jam. Don't think I would listen to this again.

Reminds me of Dave Matthews

so far this website is only giving me stuff I already know

Grungy rock, recognized Even Flow

It's fine. Very similar sounding songs. I get that Pearl Jam was important, but 30 years on, it sounds tame.

sounds like some generic dad rock. I like his voice. im sure this was influential in some way, other works seem the same if not worse

Awesome guitar solos.

I think the sound of the album isn't my kind of music .... buuut there are 4 magnific songs

I absolutely l loved that last song, everything else was pretty mid though. This wouldn’t preclude me from seeing PJ live, but this album wasn’t really for me.

Listened to it at the time and was a bit underwhelmed. Always thought they’ve got promise, but never quite delivered. Decent though

This goes straight into the over played and over hyped pile. It's not bad, just not even close to "one of the best rock albums ever". Eddie Vedder's vocals are not great, a couple of the songs manage to get past that anyway. That's pretty much all I have to say about it. Solid 3 material.

GRUNGE⁉️

Straight 90s rock. Prefer more alternative rock.

Yeah good, not really my vibe

Lots of big hits. Classic sound from the early 90s. Solid album. Although the songs are very good, cannot listen to many of them because they were overplayed on the radio.

Strong skate 3, pretty decent, not usually into this

Very throaty rock. Enjoyed the final track.

Only listened to a few tracks in the car. Was good, not great.

It’s an interesting album with a very distinctive sound. Not my cup of tea, but it’s alright. 3/5

dont like alt rock. 6/10

Very fun to groove to. Couldn't understand any of the lyrics except (generally) the title of the song. But still good songs to hum along to.

Blasphemous but only a 3 for me. I know, I know but there is just something about it which doesn't grab me as it should.

Alright

Debut studio album released in 1991. A good album.

our father who shreads in heaven

'Even Flow' är nog bäst. I början av varje refräng, när Vedder går ned i "eEeven flooow" blir hans röst ett instrumet på det sättet jag nämnde ovan. Fett gitarrsolo i slutet av 'Alive'! Älskar drivet i 'Porch'. Bästa låt: Even Flow.

A bit too heavy for me, but it was fine

I don’t think I’ve listened to this album, but I have heard every song. Well attenuated and honesty pretty masterful composition. Not my particular cup of tea, but I see why they were basically top of the rock chart for the 90s

Hahahaha PJ were the enemy! But my brother was fond of them, and was learning to play guitar at the time, so both this record and my brother’s wrangling of the riffs have nostalgic pull on me. Interestingly, for a band named after jizz, their first album has been celebrated as a subtle yet successful concept album on “code for shit” - see the track listing: :”Even flow”, “Black”, “Oceans”, “Deep”, and “Release” sing to the act. “Once”, “Alive”, “Why Go”, “Porch”, “Garden”, and “Jeremy” address the emotional and physical context. When I was told this, my animosity towards PJ melted. “Once. Upon a time. I could control myself.” Knowing what we know now, how can this fail to move the listener? Thirty years removed, I can enjoy some of these tunes. Tails off, and would’ve been better had the title been the correct count. Eddie Vedder seems like a nice bloke, and the grunge politics of PJ being the conservative choice while Nirvana were the revolutionaries seems daft now, though I’m sure my altered opinion will be tested when the Smashing Pumpkins bloviate into our trek. Three!

Solid album but it felt like a lot of the same idea. It feels like something is like to pop up on shuffle sometimes but not great for a full listen through. All in all, Pearl Jam’s great so I can’t complain.

Aardige muziek, goed te luisteren, maar ik ben geen fan.

Singles: --------------------------------- Alive (#16 UK, #16 US Rock) Even Flow (#27 UK, #3 US Rock) Jeremy (#15 UK, #5 US Rock) Oceans (Minor hit outside US/UK) 3.5/5

Top Tracks: - Release inkl. Hidden Track - Oceans

This is OK. NO idea why people love it so much.

Good album, but not really to my tastes. Don't feel the need or desire to re-listen after the first go.

Thick, fulsome 90s rock. Not for me, a bit crusty, but for someone I'm sure.

Much better than i remembered

3/5. Sure, the first half of the album is quite repeatable then the second half is nothing. Plus even the first half are not the best songs, just some good songs.

Very American sound of rock that didn’t quite make it in the UK. Some well known tunes, big sound. Not bad

3 stars

3.7 - Most of Pearl Jam's greatest hits are on the first half of this record, which feels epic. Though I haven't ever listened to this record in full, I know songs like "Jeremy" on a deep personal level. Seemingly overnight, Eddie Vedder became the voice of 90s hard rock, emulated by legions of lesser bands (e.g. Nickelback, Silverchair, Creed...). It's hard to separate the voice from its meme-like status; however, his incredible vocal performance on songs like "Black" remind me why so many people copied his style. I'm also struck by the guitar work on songs like "Alive" and on deeper cuts like "Ocean" - layered, vivid and colorful. The second half of the record doesn't have the same fire power, and songs like "Deep" detract from the overall flow. Still, it's an important cultural touchstone well worth a listen.

I get the landmark status of this album, but the vocals are just not for me.

l’album si le chanteur criait pas

Ten has always disappointed me. I heard Vs first, loved that and still do, every song. So many bangers, one after the other. So on hearing there was this great debut album, and knowing the monster singles Alive, Even Flow, Jeremy, all great, so exciting! But, no. Aside from those most stuff here is just plodders. Just can't see why it's so revered. I've given it so many chances to reveal itself to me and it's never landed. I hear PJ have other really good albums too but I've never got into them, so it's possible that VS just hit right on an impressionable teen, and simply the residuals of that love have sustained that record alone for me down the years. I forgot Oceans, that's very decent. So that's 4 tracks. Release is like Elderly Woman except not as good. There are no bad songs here, just several boring ones, so I'm inclined to edge a 3.

Sadly, nothing new to me on this album stood out to me. Maybe I was distracted. I probably liked it more than the Soundgarden album I got, but it's still a three. Perhaps I don't like grunge that much, and I actually just like Nirvana? I don't know. My favourite song was Even Flow.

listened to it!

listened to half it was good

I enjoyed it, but on a first listen it feels pretty similar to a lot of other rock, honestly. It didn't jump out at me.

Doesn't hit the way it used to, but feels good.

I heard this album years ago and didn’t like it. I relistened and I didn’t really like the first half, but the moment “Ocean” started, it all kinda went uphill from there, culminating in the exuberant “Release.” All in all, while I still think this album is very spotty, I have a newfound respect for its place in rock’s history.

Very good songwriting, feels a bit long/jammy at times. Standouts are Alive, Why Go, Even Flow (obviously). Use of wah on guitars is nice and doesn't feel gimmicky. "Secret" track at the end of Release was a weird way to end the album, unsure whether I like it or not. Other standouts include Oceans, Black and Garden. Eddie's voice is unreal for a debut

I was very pleasantly surprised by this album. I’ve never gotten around to listening to Pearl Jam but I’m glad I did, don’t let this 3 fool you, it’s a strong 3. Waiting for the day we get half stars.

I woke up shaking, my face soaking from the constant stream of sweat pouring down it. A soft whisper left my mouth, so depressed that it was insusceptible to any normal human ear aiming to obtain its echo. I said it again, but louder, and yet it still was but a passing wind to most mortal creatures. I repeated again, louder, “three”. I kept crying out, louder, and louder, “THREE! THREE!! THREE!!!!!!”. I was bellowing it out now, waking up the neighbor’s murderous cat. “THREE!!!!!!!!!!! THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”. Then, one last time for all the marbles, I screamed until the lights came on and the dawn had aged into a new day, “THREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”.

Despite more than a few of these tracks being played to death on early aughts radio, I still found myself jamming along to the gold standard hits and deep cuts on this one. Definitely better to listen with headphones and get the full brunt of the guitar tone on this LP, which is the real star – given that it makes Vedder's vocals tolerable and then some is a notable feat. Avoided this band due to way too much exposure on the radio as a kid, but may have to circle back if the other albums are as solid as this one.

Classic, like many songs and the atmosphere but just not my favorite music

My first Pearl Jam album. I understand all the Eddie Vedder memes. Once is a great opener. I love the drum sound on this record. I wonder who engineered it? Dave Hillis...can't say I've heard of him but he's worked with some big big names. It's slightly become a bit of a "set and forget" album...easy to just put on and not pay much attention to. Still good background music. Notable Songs - Once Black - Mainly for the outro! 6/10

Tough. Thought a lot of the songs were pretty good but I just get so tired of his voice. Why Go had sick guitar. Not sure if ever listen to it again though. High 3.

узнала новый оригинал для знакомого кавера. но не моё

I do like a lot of the grunge coming from this era, but this one feels a little blander and flatter than the others.

Its a hit parade, certainly not my favorite thing to listen to and probably will never listen to Pearl Jam again.

Perfectly average rock n roll music 3/5

Listened

idk i dont rlly like grunge

I buried Jeremy alive in a deep hole under my porch. Blood didn't even flow from his black eyes once I removed them with my garden shears. Why go through such oceans of trouble, just to release some tension? Listen to this album to find out.

Why Go, Jeremy, Porch

I always liked the popular Pearl Jam songs on this album but never really got into them. Good band, some cool moments. Interesting vocals and melodys. Eddy Veder has a similar timbre sometimes to Dave Matthews

This is like the espolon of rock. It’s definitely better than the rail, but it still feels pretty generic a lot of the time. Some of the songs are iconic and interesting, but at the end of the day it’s kind of derivative and there’s so much guitar rock I’d rather listen to

Eddie Vedder's voice has always annoyed me to my core. I actually think I would LOVE this album if someone else sang the songs.

I’m not a huge fan of 90s college rock, but this was a good listen. While Eddie’s voice is an acquired taste, he packed a lot of emotion into this one. The reviews were correct that this album leans more toward classic rock in style and composition. Probably won’t listen to this one much, but I will add a few to my library! Favorite Songs: 1) Even Flow 2) Black 3) Garden

It gets three stars because the first half of this album is really recognizable and iconic, but after nearly an hour, it all blends together... honestly all of these songs sound the same.

Pretty good but have this already and never listen.

Extensive build-ups, emotionally loaded vocals overlaid against an impressive atmosphere of impotent despair. It's a shame that the "rough November Rain" aesthetic wears off around "Jeremy" and the "grunge U2" takes over for the rest of the album. Snap the record in half and you'll get an excellent smaller EP focused around "Black" which ends on a contemplative tone with "Oceans". "Excel" out of "Excellent" overall, so to speak.

No longer one of the greatest albums ever, but once was, to me

Not bad, not that memorable though. This was a very influential album in its time. In 2022 though I can't feel too much connection to this album. I've never been a huge fan of the genre regardless though, so it wouldn't really be my jam anyway. A few small highlights. The album opens and closes very well. And the big singles from the album are decent. FAVORITE SONGS: - One - Jeremy - Release 3/5

Now this is rock and roll!!! The first half of the album is very strong, the second-half sort of feels like a slog. It really is a nice gritty albuma nd Vedder's vocals are on full display. I really enjoyed Alive and I thought Release was a pretty good closer.

Yeah, it's OK. I mean, it's obviously better than OK, in that it is structured, performed and produced beautifully. But it just doesn't gripper me. I like to be grippered by music, and this has left me feeling unfortunately un-grippered. Which is a shame.

Good record, but besides "Even Flow" nothing truly outstanding.

Vähä tylsä, muutama iha kova kipale

Good music but I am not a fan of grunge.

Full disclosure: this album came out when I was an impressionable 14 year old and I was never a major fan. Radios then proceeded to overplay this album for the subsequent 30 years. It seemed like every third song played on my radio stations was Pearl Jam. I am beyond bored by this music at this point. So that's where I was coming from listening to the album today. Thoughts: it is just as self pitying and whiny as I remembered; the album is actually very cohesive and every song is strong - there's almost no filler; the musical skill and songwriting are there and I can see why this album blew people away; but basically, I just don't really like it/it was ruined for me by overplaying a whiny ex boyfriends who were obsessed with it. Still, it was an interesting exercise listening to it from beginning to end. All those years of hearing singles, I never appreciated how well the album holds together.

It has some tunes on it, but also a lot of filler. A this sound of the times seems a bit bland nowadays

Classic rock, slightly boring but Black is a 5 star song. (much prefer Badmotorfinger, Superunknown, Nevermind etc but of course, Ten is miles better than all these copycat bands that turned up afterwards).

Not bad.

Sounds like Nirvana butt rock to me, but I get why my dad was into this.

Got halfway through. I just can’t get over Eddie’s voice. I know it works for some people, but not my cup o tea. There’s def some good grungy feels happening, but also feels dad rock at its core… love u dad

Even Flow has me reflecting vividly on guitar hero for some reason. I’m also realizing i’ve never really listened to Pearl Jam and I’m not sure I love the vibe

I still think this is their best album.

Skipped.

The best thing about this was it came out when I was at school and I had a friend called Jeremy! Loads of process echo hadn't noticed before

Pretty generic sounding, they never seemed to hit the spot for me, not sure why?

Classic. That girl at uni loved this and played it over and over and I liked her so I listened to it over and over and agreed it was amazing. It's OK.

okay-ish

It's okay. If I had heard this album in the 90s then it may have become a favourite but it's middle of the road for me.

Competent grunge. Not as good as Nirvana (SORRY NOT SORRY). But I like the hits, and the non-hits were fun to discover.

Not as amazing as I remembered. Some good singing. Some 80s rock guitar and some 90s "grunge" guitar. Quite a serious album with grounded stories - no elves, devils or mysticism!

Cool. Great voice. Pretty depressing. Some uplifting section's. Overall a great sound though.

Ten by Pearl Jam was everywhere the year that it came out. I remember seeing copies of this album in so many college dorm rooms. I never quite got hooked in by the album back then. I think I have tried to listen to this album before. I've heard a few of the songs many times, and they fit into my list of tracks that I'd listen to again ("Even Flow", "Alive", "Black", "Jeremy"). I think that these tracks are on my re-listen list in part because of nostalgia's sake. After listening to this album again, the music as a whole doesn't hold my attention for each track. I think I like Pearl Jam. I have a lot of respect for their work, but I don't imagine playing this whole album again by my own choice.

3.5 ⭐️

Not my favorite thing in the world but a few of these Alive, Jeremy you just can't NOT listen to.

idk overrated but catchy 3.

Not bad, not always my thing but couldn't really fault it

Surcoté de fou et assez moyen Prefs: Once, Alive, Jeremy, Porch Moins pref: Deep

mid considering how famous some of the songs are

not liking this makes me a bad music listener. i know it does. i know pearl jam is very good. but i will not be listening to pearl jam again.

Was ok. Not my usual jam

objectively very solid but i have no emotional connection to it and cannot imagine ever choosing to listen to it

Never listened so much for this band. Good sound. Need to google what menas the grunge movement or Seattle sound. Love to learn about that type of music and lyrics.

Já já, þetta er löngu orðin klassík. Nokkrir bangerar og restin er fín.

Hey, I don't hate Pearl Jam as much as I thought I did!

I don't really like Pearl Jam, but nobody can deny that this album is an even flow of hits and bangers

I thought I'll hate it, but finally, I knew all the songs and It was kind of fun

3.5/5. Nirvana > Soundgarden > AiC > Pearl Jam. Doesn’t quite hit as hard as it used to 🤷‍♂️

I'm just... not a fan of that voice. It's good old rock and roll, and a real nostalgia trip for my early college years, but not a thing If seek out.

This is good, but not essential to me.

A little bluesy boring at times, but a lot of the slower stuff is quite nice. Really like black and Jeremy (already saved) Strong 3

Album trop écouté quand j’étais adolescent, associé aux souvenirs d’apprendre à jouer de la guitare avec mon premier groupe de musique. Surpris de le réécouter attentivement: beaucoup de détails m’échappaient alors.

An album I listened to a million times at university (back when it came out), and don't really need to listen to any more. Definitely the kind of music one outgrows if one is serious about music appreciation and exploration.

4 great songs, but just didn't grab me. Not really a Pearl Jam fan to start with so kinda of a yawner for me

تجربة لطيفة

Decent, but his voice always annoys me.

With such a loud and passionate sound, it is no surprise than "Ten" is considered such a groundbreaker that triggered the tsunami of alternative rock in the '90s. With casual yet headbanging sound, as well as dark subject matters, I think any young rock fan from any decade would enjoy this. I enjoyed it, but something just don't hit it. I enjoyed the loud instrumental outbursts, the solos, the solid yet raspy voice. But somehow, I felt disconnected with the songs. I don't know, but I might describe it as the lack of "approach" that the songs do to listeners. I get the sound, loud and passionate as it is, but why do I always get zoned out and ultimately get bored after enough repetitions of the same sentence? It felt like a performance from a distance, impressive, but not actually played for me. Or perhaps it's because it's too loud? Maybe. The energy seems over the place sometimes. And the more "mellow" tracks are personally better. "Black", "Jeremy", and "Alive" are personal highlights. But I also enjoyed "Once" and "Even Flow". Still, a great must-listen album. Maybe a couple of re-listens will do for me to enjoy this one.

Pearl Jam is a very decent 90s band

It's Pearl Jam. Not much else to say about it. I knew what I was getting into.

Some of these songs went on for too long. Or were they different ones? Hard to tell, they were all so similar.. Had expected more of this album given that it features the classic "Alive".

I get it, this is, uh, great rock and roll, music. Nevermind grunge. Edward Severson is an amazing performer and coincidentally was part of grunge mania. This record is great grunge and is unfortunately dated to the era. Mr. Severson is still great in spite of the era. Thanks so much for your gravitas in Twin Peaks!

First Listen. Ok. I know quite a few of the songs, but never really listened to the whole album. It is pretty good. 3/5

Ploddy grunge not as cool as nirvana

The highs are spectacular but a lot of filler.

Rock. Låter lite som led Zeppelin

October 20, 2021 Pretty good! I liked "Alive".

I know this one, no need to relisten. It's their only album I can sit through fully

Can never quite get fully into Pearl Jam, but has their best known songs on there.

I've never been big on grunge and had only had limited exposure to Pearl Jam. This album didn't really change my views, I neither loved nor hated it. It's just... Ok. I honestly found the songs a bit too long and a bit too samey. Porch was the standout track that I didn't already know that I saved as a favourite. Shorter and more musically interesting to me. It might be a great album but a couple of repeat plays was enough. I doubt I'll feel the need to listen to this in full again.

Liked it. Couple of bangers i'll def listen to again.

Listened to this growing up. Didn’t get any better

Grunge is always cool. For some reason, I didn't think Pearl Jam went this hard. It's pretty good, I can imagine hearing this album at like a basement party or something

It’s good, but I’ve never been a big fan of Pearl Jam.

Pretty good

Was not feeling it. Eddie Vedder is great but the songs are lacking and pale compared to Nirvana. Further, far too long a run time.

Had not heard this album by the band. The usual hallmarks of the band are there, but maybe not as refined as their later work.

Grabbed me at times with some unexpectedly Indian (to my ear at least) musical stylings and there are a couple of stand-out songs but after several listens large tracts made no particular impression.

I like his voice and the slower songs. I feel the energy and the theatrical vibe, but it's not my type of music. (6/10) Favorite Tracks :Black

scuffed nickelback :DDDDDD

I've heard some of these songs before, but not many. The songs are mostly laid back and melancholy, a relatively easy listen despite the off-beat and discordant undertones.

I really enjoyed a few of these more than I was expecting to and I will definitely be revisiting :)

Ah yes Pearl Jam. I've tried many times but their anthemic grunge style has just never clicked for me. One of those bands I just can't seem to ever get engaged with and almost always find myself zoning out when listening to them. Can't really express exactly why either but alas sometimes music just boils down to connection and I just don't connect here even if I can appreciate the artistry.

Good energy. Drummer really hitting those skins. I have a bias against PJ as I thought they were a little cheesy and not as hard as the music I listened to in High School. But not bad at all

Tons of hits and a couple of tracks I enjoyed I’d never done before. I can respect it but at times it’s not for me.

I thought I would be more into it than I was it’s got some classic rock band songs but was just okay

like some songs

Mostly enjoyed this, even flow is a classic.

They were never really my jam (see what I did there?) but it wasn’t terrible to listen to, especially with some familiar songs on this album.

Knew all the songs, didn't know they all came from one album! Still not a fan, but good to hear in context.

A pretty good rock album, I knew more songs than I realised. Still not sure about his voice

Having never been a fan of PJ (or grunge), I have to say that this was better than I was expecting. Eddy Vedder's voice can grate on you after a while, but the song writing is good, as shown by the indie radio play they get, and there's even a decent guitar solo or two. As Sue says, they're ok if you don't have to listen to them for too long, which IMO, is true of many bands.

Not too bad, dont mind it but not something i would seak out

- Ravaging, growly-er voice - Driving, classic harder rock lines - Not really songs id listen to voluntarily

ooh. lil boring and few songs sounded just dated. some of the them had no oomph. ‘oceans’ v pretty tho :)

perfect

Album was good. Even Flow, Jeremy and Release were highlights. Three is a holder score as I would like to listen to it more to arrive at a final score

It's Pearl Jam. Some great songs on the album, and some boring songs as well.

Good guitar solos. Alive

A couple of memorable stand out tracks but still a bit to Seattle for me.

I should like Pearl Jam more than I do. For some reason, however, they've never resonated with me very well. This album is full of song with which I am familiar, and I like them all... okay. None of them increase PJ's appeal to me, though. 3 stars.

Some amazing songs some better left behind, so good argument to stick with top songs or greatest hits VS full album, a little like Queen.

1991: Alive, Porch

No, Three.

Nostalgia was nice, but listening to the whole album got whiny and old

very meh, had it on whilst reading and it really just melted into the background

Pearl Jam is Iconic. PJ was also not my favorite alt band. Good lyrics,

mannnnn thisnone isnt for me. its all the singles and it just has a routinized feel to it. i dont need five singles that are maybe two and a half songs. i dont need this particular brand of big man voice. i dont need it. give me spoon man, give me back hole sun.

Whatever man

Very recognizable because my formative years post high school were filled with Pearl jam, smashing pumpkins, Nirvana, all that stuff, but it's all time locked and doesn't resonate with 50-something-year-old me. Was actually a tiring listen all together.

I can definitely understand why people like this, but grunge just isn’t my thing. It’s better than other grunge albums I’ve heard for sure, but still not enough to turn me around.
