Reviews (page 7 of 7)

Overall I felt like the production was trying to do too much. Most songs were well-written folk/country songs, perhaps a little too full of themselves, and Harris is a good singer, but the songs just weren't distinct enough to get much from them. The production just felt kind of try-hard, as if to attempt a spin to make it novel or contemporary, but it just distracted and didn't fit. I found myself skipping around through tracks. I could see why people like this, but it felt like some safe pop country music trying to disguise itself.

This was the second Emmylou Harris album in this project. I had successfully forgotten that I had heard one of hers before. This whiny country lament gets on my nerves. Or is it just Emmylou's voice? Anyway, I haven't listened to it all the way through and I won't. 1/5

J'arrive toujours pas a accrocher la country dsl

I... Just didn't really care for this one.

When I saw this was a country album I was prepared to give this a 1. After the first song and reading the big blob of context in the second or third review I was a bit invested and thought this might have been a turning point for my relationship with country. However after a few songs I was just bored to death, and there's something about country singing that irks me the wrong way. I can't put my finger on it but all country singers do it.

Replay value on this is, use it to go to sleep. Not my flavor but I can understand the appeal.

While I recognise Harris' great musical talents, her specific brand of balladsy country pop as exhibited on this album just isn't for me, therefore one star. That doesn't mean it's bad, it just means that it's not my thing. I have to acknowledge however the "homey" feel of her music that came up when I listened to it. I dunno what exactly that is, but listening to her somehow managed to conjure up a tiny bit of the feeling of being twelve again and vaguely hearing stuff similar to this from the radio that's playing in the other room, while I presumably read comics or something? Weird stuff.

Un poco floppers costo acabarlo y no skippear

Don't get how an album with only mild acclaim makes this list. It has a little more musical depth than a lot of country music, but is otherwise typical country fayre.

I very much disliked this album; it was just annoying and distracting--not like some electronic albums can be, but just not good. Was very happy to be done with this one. 1/5

Incredibly dull, and boring Best Song: Bang the Drum Slowly Rating: 2/10 Stars: 1/5

This is the 166th album I’m rating. After I listened to Down by the Seaside I started to get interested in country rock so I listened to one Emmylou Harris song and it was awful. Adding to my Playlist - Nothing. Not Adding to my Playlist - The Pearl, Michelangelo, I Don't Wanna Talk About It Now, Tragedy, Red Dirt Girl, My Baby Needs a Shepherd, Bang the Drums Slowly, J'ai Fait Tout, One Big Love, Hour of Gold, My Antonia, and Boy from Tueplo. Red Dirt Girl - Not as awful as the rest of the album but still not good. All in all I liked 0/12 songs. Emmylou Harris is as bad as I thought she was. Not nearly as good as Lucinda Williams.

I don't mind country but I don't know what tis is

Still don't like country, at all.

I was excited to listen to this, having never really listened to Emmylou before, but unfortunately this was utterly dour. Couldn't pick out anything that was interesting, much less outstanding. 2/10

Idk if it’s just me but I can’t understand I single thing this woman is saying

J’aime pas du touuuut c’est chiant à mourir

Emmylou, you were ok once, but I am not listening to you again…

Not my jam

Nursing home music

this aint it

Horrible horrible album Boring is an understatement

Good Lord this is bad. Such a beautiful voice. Way back when she was singing her grief at losing Graham she had some interesting ideas. But her musical instincts are utterly banal.

Finally a woman - ohhh. I just couldn't do it, I got to the third track. Not my vibe babe. Here are some other women who don't make this list: Aaliyah, Alicia Keys, Diana Ross, Dixie chicks, Donna Summers, Kelis, Lady Gaga, Mary J Blige, Regina spektor, No Doubt, Rihanna, Whitney Houston, Robyn,

err, thanks but no.

Emmy is over rated

I really tried with this one and no luck. Why this album by her? Didn’t make sen

No thanks.

I've already forgotten about all of this album, and I'm still listening to it. EmmyWHO Harris?

Country music is awful. This album didn't change my mind.

Soft country.

I see why I skipped this before.

Not for me

This one wasn’t for me. Her voice is beautiful, but there wasn’t a single track that caught my attention

Joo nyt ei kyllä kristillinen mitäänsanomattomuus iskenyt. Pääosin en tykännyt mistään. Viimeissä kappaleessa ihan mielenkiintoiset sanat mutta se ei oikein tätä pelasta.

ZERO STARS!!!!

Good gawd this was a really tough to make it through for this listener. Very good voice but this music just bores the shit out of me. Yea, The Boy from Tupelo is Elvis. Cool. This was a struggle no doubt. Can't see any situation I would want to hear this again.

Why is this on here

I don't think I can get through this one Will I listen to again: 0%

Miten lisäisi ulkoa opeteltuun biisintekoon uuden vivahteen? Ottamalla käyttöön vuoden 2000 tuliterät tehosteet: hifi-äänenlaadun ja Anssi Kela -rumpukompin. Not for me.

Warbly

Absolutely not.

I was pretty bored by the halfway point, and practically asleep by the end. At least she wrote most of these tracks having mostly made her name doing covers. Her voice is nice but there's not much in the music or lyrics that I find interesting at all. Sorry Emmylou

Gear: Fostex TH610 Artwork: 👱‍♀️📸⬛ Mix: 🧏‍♂️📏💩 Musik: ♱🙅🤢 Wertung: ⛔/5

Not my taste at all.

Blind album and artist. I'm not sure if it's because I'm not in the mood for this album or if it's the actual album itself... but it's putting me to sleep and I'm not enjoying it really at all. It's like slow country and it is not my style.

could i write poetry to this? n

Whiny Americana. Wanted the album to finally end.

Perus laulaja laulunraapija.. 1001 kirjaan.. itsensä kaapina... Ja non insulting mukavan kuullloista musiikkia semmonen tunti..

Country album, nothing special about it

I couldn't finish this. It was entirely too slow, boring, and meandering. It might be someone else's cup of tea, but it sure isn't mine.

Like a sort of cheaper Paul Simon? Kind of curious but I'm not sure about her voice. Interesting sounds. But mostly utter tosh.

Not for me. 1/5

I try to be positive, but this was tedious to get through.

Not my kind of music - found it boring, even after two listenings.

Not my thing at all

Sorry this was very boring. Every songs sounds the same and the atmosphere is average. I know she did better before!

Just not an album I find anything interesting while listening to. Love a few albums of hers from the 70s.

Read the blurb and I know I’m going to hate this. Listened to it and I was right. This is fucking terrible music.

An utterly boring album that drags on for far too long, with melodies that would make a Christian pop radio station blush, and the lyrical content isn't too far behind. Its slow, but it isn't lush, it has layered production, but there is nothing dreamy about it. Just an utter waste of time, only really challenging to your grandparents. The CD era was a blight on the music industry.

да похуй

Meh. Pretty voice but not my style of music at all. It's borderline country. It was soft/mellow for a nice afternoon walk, but I have no interest in hearing more.

Nah. Pass!

Another boring, meandering, folk, country, singer songwriter thing. God, will they ever tire of putting these things on the list? This album passed like a cloud in front of the sun, with nary an impression left behind.

This is Emmylou Harris' nineteenth album and her first album composed of mostly her own compositions. She is best known for covering other songwriters' work. Harris' musical career has been propagated through successful collaboration with other artists. Her top songs are all collaborations with Willie Nelson and Dolly Parton. Considered contemporary folk, country folk, or Americana, this album is slow and dreadful.

Probably one of the most boring things I’ve ever heard. Every song just sounds like endless vamping, and you’re left waiting for the song to properly start every time.

probably bette than 1 star but it’s not a genre that speaks to me

Terrible, really bland and insipid, even for country. Didn't change gear once, all the instruments were pared back to be as radio friendly as possible. Never again

Shite Country music. Need I say more.

"everybody do like a monkey, if you want to be funky" sang in sincerity was the exact point where the 1 was secured. Sorry Emmylou, it seems from the public reviews that you are a big name in country, but I've never heard of you. Ships in the night. Worlds apart. Paths never to cross again... Hopefully

Pop feito por cantora de country? Cansativo.

wat een herrie, allemaal kak

I really don't like US country/folk.

One day a country album might get more than 2 stars from me. Not today.

To create such an album at the turn of the millennium is to be wilfully ignorant of over half a century's worth of musical history and innovation. The song titled in French offered hope of some flavour, but alas, it is a wet baguette.

dreary and boring.

Boring, unremarkable. Barely musical. Stopped listening halfway through the second song, it was torture.

Music for old women. I'm neither of those yet, so I found it very boring. Also really dislike her voice

Dreadful.

Not a fan

Real relevant and impactful songwriting- a song about Elvis in..... the year 2000. A plodding and dreary mess of an album. Her singing is muddied and incomprehensible on some tracks. Often times it sounds like she didn't even know what the backing track was while she is singing. The few bluesy and interesting riffs are immediately buried in execrable vocals. Would not recommend.

Hard pass

Was gonna rate this a 2 which for me means "OK" but I had a headache and this made it worse.

I hope it's not country. Yep sure is. lol oh well we'll tough it out. Okay I'm kinda getting into it now. It's not terrible. lol

Horse shit

The antithesis of my musical tastes.

Incredibly boring 2 Most boring album in the history of albums 1

I did pretty well, there were only about 5 tracks left when I turned it off. Really dreary.

- Not music I would listen to - Lacks energy but has emotion - Sounds like a good soundtrack to contemplation - Favorite songs: Bang the Drum Slowly

This was a bad album. I somehow only skipped a couple of songs.

Emmylou

All songs sound the same. Her voice is Not Good.

To listen to this was a big ask. No thank you

all i can hear is stevie nicks, who i find irritating at best.

There were a few times I thought I was listening to Christian folk rock. Not really my style - felt like the type of background music they play when a couple breaks up in those ABC/NBC series dramas.

Country music is a no no for me

Pretty awful.

Enough folk please

Listening to this one felt like a chore. It’s just very bland, very unexciting, very plain; it sounds like royalty-free music for low budget commercials.

Red Dirge Girl

Boring.

It’s country I’m biased

I’m not a fan of country music.

American folk/country is not for me. Dull

Modern country music(

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzZzzzz

"Modern" country and western. dislike everything about this, the "girl next door with the guitar" vibe to the warbling vocals, not for me

Not my cup of tea. Fleetwood wannabe without any of the good qualities. I find her voice very irritating, especially with the forced vibrato… and the lyrics were a total snooze fest. The only good track was “My Antonia”, which was completely carried by Dave Matthews… so yeah.

I know she's highly respected but the album is a little boring for my tastes. It has some nice songs on it but I don't know if it's on my personal 1001 albums.

This cd is stuck in some grandma’s car

Lutei pra terminar.

too "country" for me, despite great voice

Big fat nope

Mmmm la vraie musique de coboy

This may have been a departure from her formerly folkier-than-thou oeuvre, but to me it just comes over as if someone got their hands on the Blood Makes Noise dial and then only turned it up to 2. It goes up to 11, folks

Coutryzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I got her importance, but this kind of music is boring

Country music that your Mum would listen to. The opposite of everything I like.

No ps no

Qué pedazo de

aburridooo. Ni si quiera llegué a la mitad.

Melodic whinyness. Pass

Terrible. Do not like country music.

I just don't really get why anyone would listen to this

Sorry but pretty painful
