Reviews (page 9 of 13)

Actually enjoyed that quite alot, a couple skips but found some new songs

For my introduction to Fleetwood Mac, this is a bit of a bummer. Don't get me wrong - it sounds -good-, but aside from 'Beautiful Child', there wasn't a single track that stood out to me as essential listening. And that's the biggest critique I can give it: the loveydovey songs all blend together.

If you can't get enough of rumours and wish there was more of it, even if it is not nearly as polished, this is for you. Sisters of moon is the best song on this. Other than that nothing stood out but it was not bad either.

Very well recorded. Awesome bass lines and the drums pop off on several tracks. I love the drums on "what makes you think you're the one". The early synths and guitar pedal effects were awesome. I like the experimental Insturmentals but the vocals and song structures were very simple, although very good. Some songs are very traditional almost folk like style, while others are very experimental. Most of the songs are very well made, just not quite the style I like to listen to regularly.

While not a bad album, it is a tad bloated. It doesn't help either that the subject matter, tone, and general sound is carried over almost directly from 'Rumours', which I feel makes it less special and not really worth coming back to as much outside of some stand-out tracks.

Good album but doesn't reach the levels of the previous ones

Having listened to Rumours so much, you'd have thought that the follow up would have been heard too. I didn't even really recognise any tracks. I enjoyed it, but seemed a bit bloated and not as rich a sound, or as emotionally charged as Rumours. ,3 and a half if I could.

Too long, good grooves, nothing catchy

Het album start met een goede plaat, eigenlijk de platen die door de vrouw zijn gezongen vind ik het mooist. Sara, Storm en Over & Over zijn de beste. Ook sisters of the moon is erg goed.

What could've been... there's a wonderful album under all the nonsense, but the nonsense is still there and the albums are rated as a whole. Speaking of wholes, there is nothing whole about this album, this sounds more like a compilation experiment of sorts with all of the bandmates contributing, but none of them communicating. Lindsey absolutely shits the bed with his whiny coked up toddler anthems, but makes it up at the end of the album with a couple of great songs. Stevie and Christine contribute to this album with a lot of powerful and emotional tracks, but also with a couple of songs that don't really go anywhere. This thing is also pretty damn long for an album with absolutely no concept whatsoever, but it didn't really lose me on the account of being so unpredictable. I wouldn't listen to this whole thing again though, to be completely honest. Best: Sara, Storms, Sisters Of The Moon, Walk A Thin Line, Tusk; Worst: The Ledge, Not That Funny, That's Enough For Me 3/5

6.5/10

Compared to Rumours, this is dull and much too long. Don't get me wrong, there's no bad apple in the basket, but nothing shiny and delicious either.

Great album

Tusk, the song, is a banger! Expected to enjoy it a lot more but got bored until that song

Interesting album, that’s for sure. Tusk naturally gets compared to the White Album given its length and sonic variety, but it doesn’t have near the same amount of good/great songs, nor does it boast the same level of cohesive-by-way-of-patchwork quality like the White Album or a number of other great double records. The first disc is actually pretty strong with Stevie Nicks hitting three home runs in three at bats (Storms being my favorite). Disc 2 has a couple gems, but definitely more misses than hits. Lindsey Buckingham shines most on some spectacular and spirited lead guitar as well as auxiliary instrumentation through this record. I find the majority of his songwriting on Tusk to be self-indulgent cocaine diatribes with cool production.

Not bad. But not my favorite Fleetwood Mac album.

Very bloated, almost the opposite of Rumours; packed full of tracks that are fine but very few standouts. Kinda reminds me of early Paul McCartney solo stuff oddly. Some nice production but a lot of ideas that don't develop as much as they probably should. 3.3/5

Not their best but I'm still a pretty big Fleetwood mac fan

Just okay. Can see why I haven't listened to much Fleetwood Mac outside of Rumours.

Sara-2015 remaster hava a very cute note on, feeling chill and cutie

Curious to my thoughts after I listen to Rumours. This album was fine.

Love some fleetwood Mac but this album was definitely different

Interesting record. Some of the songs are too long. Achieved goal of being the opposite of “Rumors”.

Hearing so much about how daring and confounding Tusk was, you'd have thought they'd made Trout Mask Replica or something. It has its LA New Wave moments, but it's still filtered through the band's pop sensibilities. I actually prefer those moments to the more standard Fleetwood Mac tracks, and I think the oddest thing they did was kick off a two album set with a snoozy acoustic number. "Rocks Off" it ain't. I do recall the title track fondly from back in the day. Regarding the sound, I've heard that cocaine pumps more blood through your brain. This makes everything sounds bassy, so coked-up producers crank up the treble to compensate.

No. 303/1001 Over & Over 3/5 The Ledge 4/5 Think About Me 4/5 Save Me a Place 3/5 Sara 4/5 What Makes You Think 3/5 Storms 4/5 That’s All for Everyone 3/5 Not That Funny 3/5 Sisters of the Moon 3/5 Angel 4/5 That’s Enough for Me 4/5 Brown Eyes 3/5 Never Make Me Cry 3/5 I Know I’m Not Wrong 3/5 Honey Hi 4/5 Beautiful Child 4/5 Walk a Thin Line 3/5 Tusk 3/5 Never Forget 4/5 Average: 3,45 The reach the highs of their predecessor album was basically impossible. And they were not able to do this. But still this is a really solid record.

Love Fleetwood Mac!! None of my favourite songs are on this album but still a good album none the less

Not Fleetwood Mac’s best

music white people go rabid for

Good album, quite long tho

Slower songs were good. Didn't care for the poppier songs.

I feel like I'm too sober to listen to this.

Sounded like a not-as-good version of Rumours, haha.

This was good. Kind of washed over me as generic Fleetwood Mac goodness. Wasn't brilliant and gripping. Just a steady hour and a quarter of pleasant sounds filling the room.

It is better than given credit but far short of a classic....

The percussion on “Tusk” is entertaining, and there are some good vocal harmonies here and there on the other tracks. But for the most part, this is pretty blah late 70s pop. The title track is the only thing keeping me from rounding down from a 2.5.

Fine, but nothing stood out to me.

Not bad, but it feels uninspired, particularly when compared to Rumours. Tusk is the sole standout for me. And that spazzy drum solo in the middle always makes me chuckle. 3.5*.

Not bad but kinda feels weak when Rumours and Tango in the Night as better Fleetwood Mac albums exist.

Ok, but not my favorite Fleedwood Mac

Rumors is one of my all-time favorite albums. A sheer masterpiece of music. Despite this, I have admittedly never listened to Fleetwood Mac's follow-up Tusk. I was immediately taken aback by the opening track "Over and Over". It was slow and melancholic and beautiful, yet crescendoed with layers of vocals and guitar, drums and bass. It wasn't my typical opening track type tune but my god it was good. The thing is, though, this slow yet beautiful motif was pretty much prevalent throughout the entire album. So much so that I got pretty bored of it! Of course, not every song follows that formula but enough of it does that I'm practically falling asleep during a second listen. In typical Fleetwood Mac fashion, there are some truly incredible tracks...some I could see fitting right in on Rumors. But, overall I was just sort of "eh" about this album. Probably due in no small part that it's just too long of an album. Clocking in at 75 minutes, it needs more diversity to hold my interest. The tracks I love have already been added to playlists and will be revisited time and again but as a whole, I don't think I'll be returning to Tusk.

More doesn't mean better, but this is still okay as a double album. The slow songs wander, the fast ones are frantic. "That's Enough For Me" is my take and also one of the better songs.

I know the band lore behind this album, that the disjointedness of it all reflects their interpersonal problems. And I'm definitely a Stevie fan, when it comes down to it. That said: it really feels like Lindsey Buckingham was onto something with his songs on Tusk. I kinda wish everyone else would've just gotten out of his way and let him cook.

Bandet høres jo veldig bra ut, mange flotte øyeblikk. Men blir for usammenhengende og kaotisk her

Honestly, I had such high hopes for this album. I love Fleetwood Mac. But with all due respect, leave the singing to Stevie. I found myself wanting to skip the songs. They did nothing for me, except a few.

This was alright. I feel there are better album a and better Fleetwood Mac albums

I mean, its fine, I guess. This little snippet was inferesting: Though the album sold four million copies worldwide, and earned a Grammy nomination in 1981 for its art design in the category "Best Album Package", the band's record label deemed the project a failure, laying the blame squarely with Buckingham (considering the comparatively huge sales of Rumours and the album's unprecedented recording expense).

That wasn't so bad.

If anything, this long record reinforces wgat an immense talent Stevie Nicks's voice is. Sara and Storms rise above the mediocre because of it and, in many places, we see Lindsey Buckingham struggling. The rhythm section, however, is immense and there is a fabulous single album in here.

I was kinda excited for our first Fleetwood Mac album on here, but this one didn't do much for me. A few songs worked fairly well, but those ended up being the exceptions on a long album. 2.8

Hmm mediocre other albums are more enjoyable

It's a good album. Great to put on in the background.

Another one of those albums where you had to be there. While I'm not a massive fan, Rumours was pretty good. This one has its moments but doesn't hold them. Title track is great, and Sisters of the Moon is good too, but otherwise the album didn't grab me

It's good.

As follow up acts go, this really came under the bar.

One of those acclaimed bands I never put the effort into listening to. Don't think I recognise any track titles but a little wary of it being a double album Not a huge fan really. Nothing particularly grabbed me and I caught myself checking when it would be over a couple of times, though to be fair I only managed a couple or listens. Maybe needs a few more listens Highlights: Sara, Sisters of the Moon

On Rumours, the band were able to use their emotional and personal dysfunction as artistic fuel. Here, the exhaustion of the supernova shows. Tusk would have been better as a shorter record, they could have channeled their efforts. The standouts are there, Sara is still one of my favorite FM tracks. Not a bad record, but I don’t feel it deserves a spot on the list - leave it as a footnote to Rumours.

Great music on this album, but only a few hold up as classic songs. I'm a Rumors fan, but it is more Stevie and that is what I really love about the band.

3.5★. A little long and soft but still lots to like here.

Not for me!

I like Fleetwood Mac. This album might be a little too chill for me.

There‘s probably a great album hidden in there somewhere, but I am not digging.

I never really warmed up to Fleetwood Mac except for a few songs here and there, so I wasn't surprised that I wasn't swept off my feet, especially at this length. Who would have thought the last few songs, just when my patience was wearing thin, would be this nice? Beautiful Child is particularly wonderful.

good album but blends together

Good vibe but doesn’t have the juice

An overreach by the Mac at the height of their massive popularity. Maybe their 3rd or 4th best album. Still some good work here

Strange record this. Every other song is really good, the rest borders MOR. The songs I enjoyed I enjoyed more than most off Rumours, The Ledge, What Makes You Think You’re The One, Thats all for Everyone, Not Thay Funny. Really good. But there is a lot of meh that drags it down a bit

Think this famously the underwhelming follow up to rumours and it definitely lived up to that. The Fleetwood Mac magic pops up here and there but it seems to be intentionally understated that is just a bit dull for an album this long. Looking back at the tracklisting, storms was good, as was tusk, and there were a few others that I can't recall. Compared to rumours where half the album is instantly recognisable, I think tusk's reputation is warranted. Still actually enjoyed it but unlikely to return.

Ah the difficult twelfth album after the huge eleventh hey! It's miles off rumours, but it honestly isn't bad, it's just very difficult not to compare it to rumours, when that is my only other real exposure to Fleetwood Mac. Kinda unfair I suppose by there you go. I liked "storms" the best. Still a pretty good pop record 3.5

if every song was equally as good as Sara or Tusk this would be one of the best records of all time

Creates a good vibe that maintains a specific pleasant atmosphere for bunches of 10 minutes or so, mostly when it’s Stevie knicks singing. I’m always impressed at how Fleetwood Mac found the sweet spot for letting instruments and vocals breathe, giving everything its proper room in the mix/recording. Still, nothing on here makes me jump out of my seat

Just okay. Nothing special. Nothing awful.

Ok, not terrible but not a masterpiece.

Didn't love it. What makes you think you were the one and That's all for everyone were my standouts. Will revisit since my partner has the record but I don't see myself going out of my way to listen to this alone again.

Not a bad album. Didn't do much for me though.

A mixed bag. I'd give Tusk 3.5 if I could, but I might stick with 3. Sisters of the Moon is one example of a fantastic song from Tusk, but I honestly don't know what to feel about a lot of the songs. Some feel almost like boring filler.

Honestly kinda boring? A couple bangers but lots of filler.

This album didn't ever feel special or unique, and I was feeling less-than-middling on it until the last three tracks, where I finally said "Eh, these songs are alright."

All the hippie chicks in my high school wanted to look like Stevie Nicks. I dated a girl, an aspiring singer, who spent her junior year as a Nicks devote. Senior year, she went with Nancy Wilson. Whatever… she was cute either way. Monster group of the 70’s. My mom turned righteous hippy early in that decade and spun these guys often. I was never a huge fan, certainly never spent good money on their albums. But I enjoy them in small doses, and reminisce about that sweet girl in high school.

Came to appreciate post-Peter Green Fleetwood Mac much later but into other music at the time

A good album, but a bit disapointing from thier previous two

6/10 A very mixed bag, this. A slow starter and unfortunately a lot of it was boring. Noted as an experimental album but seemed very straight rock, MOR, American rock. The Stevie Nicks stuff was what I liked most Best: Tusk

Not bad but doesn't do a lot for me

3☆/5 10.01.2024

Once I got over my brain screaming that this wasn’t the greatest hits album, it’s was pretty good.

This is a Fleetwood Mac album. I'm neither a fan, nor detractor. They make some cool music, but I've never been able to sit down and be enthusiastic about listening to them. Not a bad album, but not groundbreaking. I do like That's All for Everyone. Middle of the road album here, so 3.

Interesting album. I'm a fan of the band, but I never listened to this before, although I was familiar with the live version of Tusk from their awesome 1997 live concert/album "The Dance," performed with the USC Trojans marching band. This album's original version could not top that! I could definitely hear the three distinctly different styles of Christine, Lindsay, and Stevie, and maybe moreso than on their other albums, this one felt kind of disjointed with the differing styles. Some of Lindsay's songs here struck me as kind of wild and wacky, but I didn't mind it. I'm sure I'll revisit this one. 3.5

In the past I have not been the biggest Fleetwood Mac fan, but everytime I listen to them they always give me something very solid musically. This was my first full listen through of a Fleetwood Mac album and I thought it was pretty solid. The impression I get is of 5 people (they are a band of 5 right?) coming from different musical backgrounds and probably having to do a lot of hashing out song ideas. There's a lot going on in the way they sound. I always got the impression that Stevie Nicks was a center piece of the band, however Lindsay Buckingham and Christine Mcvie are the standouts for me. I hardly see Buckingham make many best guitarist lists, but maybe he should. I enjoy his playing and I feel like a show with just him would be pretty interesting. The tone of Lindsay's voice when he sings makes me think of Les Claypool if Les were to be more serious and less of a goofball about his singing. Christine's voice is great. On the deepish side with a huskiness to it. This is definitely a unique band and listening through the album there was a feeling of 'I wonder what the next song is going to sound like'. I'm somewhere between 3.5 to 4 stars.

This was nice. It’s not Rumors, but it’s still good. There’s some pretty stuff. There’s too much wacky Buckingham and an unnecessary Casio keyboard. But Sara is still great. And it’s always nice to hear Christine McVie. 3/5

I'm very "take it or leave it" when it comes to Fleetwood Mac. I've never had to stop listening to one of their tracks, and (even when it comes to their biggest hits) never wanted to re listen. They are the epitome of beige to me. This album didn't change that at all. As such, 3 stars is the perfect rating.

Was unfamiliar with much of this. Some amazing tunes, like Sara and a few others. And some really mediocre stuff that sounds like it’s trying to copy the Beatles or Billy Joel in places.

I suppose this answers a question that if a band is incredibly talented, can they really produce a bad album? of course they can, this isnt bad, per se, just really mediocre for long stretches. I get that its my unfamiliarity with this entry, but there is definitely a good album among the chaff in here.

I dislike almost all double albums. There’s usually a 5 star album buried in there but there’s so many bland songs that they all end up as 3 star albums (with a few exceptions). This album is no different. There’s some great songs on here (That’s All for Everyone, Tusk) and just as many uninteresting ones. Oh well!

It was alright. Wasnt too in the mood but it was good.

Some great songs, some bad songs, mostly average songs

We bought this as a CD, mainly for the song Tusk. I didn't remember most of the rest, and after listening today, I can see why. Of the 20 songs, there may be three that I would listen to again. Sarah, Sisters of the moon and Tusk. The rest ... IDK ... but the last song is Never Forget. But I will.

Two stand out tracks Sara and Tusk.

Great album. Easy listening. Although none of my favorite tunes from them were on this album, I nevertheless enjoyed those tunes.

There's some good songs on this album. Unfortunately they're buried among the chaff. This would have been much better pruned down to a single album, getting rid of the weak songs and working on some of the others a little more.

Some great tracks on this album, but overall it is too long and disjointed 3/5

I'm just not a fleetwood mac kind of gal.

Stevie's songs are good, Christine's are ok and Lindsay's are terrible, except "Tusk"

it’s a mess, quantity over quality, with some gleaming gems among the clumsy and the clichéd.

I really don't wanna point out what 'tusk' might mean as it could be inappropriate, but I could be wrong. Anyways, I like the creative album and the lyrics, as they are simple and relatable to some people

I don't like it her voice is bad, and I just plain don't like the songs.

The songs are okay, the lead singer is good, the guitar player is good. But there are better songs out there than those songs.

I like all the songs but the beat is bad. So I give this a 5/10

After the perfection of Rumours it’s hard to judge Tusk. It’s a good record, it’s just not special.

There's a lot on this album. Some of it was good and some of it was skip able. I don't see me listening to this whole album again.

Fleetwood Mac has several albums that I enjoy a lot, 4 and 5 star albums. Tusk isn't one of them. It seems like it's a double album of unfinished songs, and it's just off putting. There's obviously good things here, but it's not an album I'll listen to in full anytime soon.

Not bad, kind of enjoyed it, but no tracks really stood out to me.

Good album.

Almost done with it. Unfortunately not quite rumours level stuff here. Perhaps a bit too polished?

it's fleetwood mac i don't think they're capable of making bad music, but i like other albums of them more

Eh it's expansive. Which is its weakness.

Fleetwood Mac's weakest album, in my opinion. Still an enjoyable listen. The title track is a standout for me.

Pretty solid album. I'm not a huge FM fan so I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed this album more than I thought I would.

Faded a bit into the background but I liked the sound overall

Disappointing, honestly. Having to follow up your absolutely amazing previous album is difficult for sure, but I still expected more. Many of the sings felt hollow and passion-less, like they didn’t even want to try. Still Fleetwood, so the music is still good, but the lack of heart really showed itself to me.

It was a lot of Fleetwood with none of the great songs. Not sure I will be coming back to this one anytime soon.

When Fleetwood Mac released the follow-up to Rumours, I was underwhelmed by the double-album, Tusk. At the time, I felt the record was stretched out too far and was more quantity than quality. I admit, I wasn't exactly a fan of Mac to begin with, as I identified the group as another example of corporate-radio-friendly-rock, music to fill the pockets of the execs from Warner-Bros. Tusk re-enforced all my doubts, with production costs running 1.4 million (5.88 mil in 2023 money), it was the most expensive rock album ever made and the result was an overindulgent, way too-long mess, that honestly turned me off the band forever. A lot of reviews claim, it was a difficult listen, but if you re-listen to it multiple times, you will be rewarded with one of their best records, though Rumours was a tough act to follow. I finally listened to the whole thing and it was a bit better than I remember, peoples tasted change and aging gives you a different perspective, but it's still not the classic many make it out to be. There are a couple of great songs (thanks Stevie Nicks), but overall it could have been dwindled down to a single album, though Lindsey would surely disagree.

I wanted to love this one but it felt like some real homework to listen to it. I can now see why people were so disappointed after Rumours. Tusk, the song, is an all-time banger featuring the sounds of the USC Marching Band. Props to all the band geeks out there. The other interesting tidbit from this one is that it was the most expensive album to be created at the the time with an estimated value of $3.4m in today's money. WOW! The record lable did not get a great return on investment. Anyway, I'm sure there are some gems in here if you put in the time with this. Someday, maybe.

Pretty long but also some pretty good songs in it

I always find double albums interesting. When a band challenges themselves to pour their material across two discs for a studio release it usually goes one of two ways. It's either going to be a magnum opus, or it's going to be a slog to get through. Some of my favourites happen to be double LP's (the absolutely crazy Beatles' 'White Album', and the masterful Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'). While others I find to be a struggle and musically stretched very thin (The Who's 'Tommy' or the Chilli Peppers' 'Stadium Arcadium'). Where does Fleetwood Mac's huge follow up to 'Rumours' stand? Somewhere in the middle. It is a good record overall, However it also struggles to keep its own momentum going. I keep seeing 'Tusk' compared to other punk albums around the time. But Fleetwood Mac's sound and lyricism is far too polished and light to compare, in my opinion. It works in their favour when it's a tight record like 'Rumours', where the tracklist can somewhat flow nicely. Not so much here on 'Tusk', where they're throwing different ideas at the wall and everything feels much more loose. It feels like they took more inspiration from the Beach Boys' 'Smiley Smile' moreso than punk albums at the time, where it's more a collage of ideas rather than a whole piece of work. Putting all of that aside, though, there is some gems in the 20 songs on offer, particularly the ballads. Over & Over, Sara, Storms, Never Make Me Cry, Beautiful Child are phenomenal tracks and well worth listening to on their own - vocals, melodies, and lyrics are absolutely on point. While on the other end most of the faster rock/pop songs are good, even if a lot of them are largely forgettable; although some of the experimentation should be appreciated. I know this album has some acclaim to it. To me, though, had they condensed the tracklist down and focused on tidying some things up production-wise, this probably would have been (personally) ranked among the band's best work. As it is, 'Tusk' is simply a 'good' album, lacking some focus, with some percentage of it having standouts.

Very disjointed album. Some songs work and others not so much. Love the title track, always have.

Relaxing album with solid songs. Nothing too catchy like Dreams had.

guys hear me out, what if we do a LOT of coke and then split off into corners of the studio so we don't have to talk to each other and then we'll regroup and BOOM album! SURELY...that would produce a cohesive and listenable album! 2.5-3/5

Tusk is the best track on here; it's just unhinged enough to bring some interest to an otherwise fairly subtle album.

This is fine 3/5

Probably could benefit from repeated listening, but hard not to compare it to Rumours.

I enjoy Fleetwood Mac but this one doesn't feel like their best work. There were a handful of songs on this album that just didn't really resonate with me

Great Fleetwood Mac album; contains some very strong songs.

An ok album. I've now gotten over my childhood hatred of Fleetwood and seen the light, but this album just wasn't for me. You can definitely hear that there's a lack of cohesion with where the band wanted to go. 3/5, because it's definitely not bad, but I won't listen again.

Not a big fan, know their hits but this is what I imagined a Fleetwood album to sound like predictable pip

There’s a couple of decent tracks on here but overall it’s pretty weak. Why is it even on this list?

As a Fleetwood Mac album it was decent. As a follow-up to Rumours, it was disappointing.

Not my jam, but I didn't find myself constantly looking to see when it would be over. Just a few times.

Not my favourite work by them - the title track is a favourite but the rest of the album blurred into one for me.

While I prefer most Fleetwood Mac albums to many other comparable bands, TUSK, is one of my least favorite Fleetwood Mac albums. The Flawed masterpiece from Fleetwood Mac that deserves to be on this list is TANGO IN THE NIGHT. Far more interesting sonically and definitely far better produced than TUSK which honestly does not deserve a place on this list. Favorite tracks from TUSK: "Think About Me" and "Brown Eyes".

Buckingham said he didn't want to sound like Rumors... so they made a bad version of Rumors.

Guuuuuys, the 5 star system!!! It just doesn't work for me. The album before this was a low 3, but this is a high 3. DEFINITELY not a 4 though, let's not be crazy. Maybe I'll give it another listen and change my mind. I don't like the permanence of these reviews vs. the subjective nature of listening to music. That being said, my ex used to tear into Fleetwood Mac HARD for being trash and I definitely don't agree with that.

I was expecting to like it, but found myself wanting to skip songs. 3/5

I can see why this album didn’t perform commercially, it’s kind of all over the place. There were a few good songs but nothing too memorable. I knew this would be on here though and I’m glad I got to listen through.

As much as I love Fleetwood Mac and welcome any inclusion on this list, I can't lie: I thought I'd enjoy this album more. Some great songs, don't get me wrong, but a few chunks that just weren't memorable at all. You really can't say that about Rumours, and I personally think the self-titled and Tango in the Night may both be more enjoyable overall. Still, a really good album overall (feels weird to be this critical of an album from which I'm saving 8 songs, but that's 8 of 20), and I'm always grateful for a dose of Fleetwood. Maybe this album needed more Nicks/McVie vocals? Felt like a lot of the guys being dudes, which is a lot less interesting to me. Can't deny that title track though. Favorite tracks: Tusk, Sara, Think About Me, What Makes You Think, Not That Funny, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Beautiful Child, Walk a Thin Line. Album art: Never was a huge fan of this one, it's a speckled, sand looking canvas with a photo of an angry dog. I don't know, it just does nothing for me. Considering this is called Tusk, you could've done more. Petition to swap this cover with that Elvis Costello cover of the Elephants? That album sucked, this'll be a perfect swap. 3.5/5

Pretty good!

I could see a 4 on a different day in a different time. But today it's 3.

I kind of want to describe this as Fleetwood Mac's White Album, but that analogy doesn't quite fit. The two albums are similar in their sprawl and their individual songs that sound like bunch of solo songs played by a group. Lindsey Buckingham's hand is pretty heavy on this, but that's a good thing. His immaculate production ear really helps the sluggish and boring tracks ("Beautiful Child" is one such song). Overall, this album would have been better if it'd been shorter.

How *do* you follow up one the the greatest albums of all time? Apparently ask the record company for somewhere between $1m to $1.4m, spend most of it on blow, hire a university marching band, and record enough stuff to make a double album... Though it's a bit telling that when they eventually made a Greatest Hits album, only "Tusk" and "Sara" made the cut from here.

Expected maybe slightly more

over and over: mid the ledge: great think about me: good save me a place: good sara: mid what makes you think your the one: good storms: mid that’s all for everyone: good not that funny: great sisters of the moon: good angel: mid that’s enough for me: good brown eyes: great never make me cry: good i know im not wrong: mid Honey hi: Beautiful child: Walk a thin line: Tusk: Never forget:

It was fine ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Fleetwood Mac vibes. I think I feel asleep LOL. I mean yeah they are great, just very chill music. Ofc I’d love to listen to it again obviously

Not fleetwood mac's best album, but still not a "bad" album. I guess you might include it on a list of 1001 albums that everyone should hear so that you could talk about how it was a cocaine-fueled fall from critical acclaim, but wouldnt it be more worthwhile to just pick a better album? 3/5

Not my favorite by them

I like lots, love bits (esp. the title track), and will happily listen to it again. I'm less sure how often I'll seek it out though. Not enough memorable songs to want to return to. High 3.

i liked this but it was different than what i expected

Rumors is much better but this one is still good. Album doesn't really hold together track to track.

This album gambles hard on you being willing to listen to a double album of Fleetwood Mac. For the right person, this seems like the dream. I liked it well enough to get through it twice, but I really would have preferred a standard length album here. It does some interesting things here and there that stray from Rumours, but the experimental billing this album gets doesn't really come across in most songs. I overall enjoy general style of Fleetwood Mac, they have a uncommonly good tenderness in their music, and a unique micro level sound to back it up. Seriously, I don't know how they make their guitar and drums sound so iconic. I'd be hard pressed to really differentiate between some of the songs, and I didn't really get wrapped up in the journey of the album either, because there isn't really one there. This seems intentional, but for me, very few bands can get away with no journey in their album. I see myself reaching for this sometimes, but listening to the whole thing? Probably not.

Not as bad as I had heard, but nothing that really stood out.

this is an odd-sounding record. much more dissonant than you would expect from Fleetwood Mac, unusual harmonies, and drums that sound dropped on to the songs rather than built in as the foundations. the overall mix is also unusual - guitars louder and more insistent, vocals lower in the mix on several songs, such as Sara an interesting listen, but not an integrated album, at all- fragmented, with several different sets of ideas challenging for supremacy

like dreams, it’s a very well recorded album. i read that despite the production costs exceeding dreams and being the most expensive at the time, they still had very jank setups for some songs (using a kleenex box for snare). i just found that interesting and nothing more. while the songs sounded nice, most of them didnt really invoke an emotion out of me. besides the singles or standouts, im indifferent to the rest. i think tusk being a double album didnt help either; got boring after side b imo. i think side a was the best, followed by side b. side c was pretty weak and side d was ok. 3 personal favs: over & over, sara

Sara. El disco bonito pero rollo.

Wikipedia says this album was experimental and influenced by post-punk. I sure didn’t hear that. There are several nice songs, but overall it’s unremarkable. Unremarkable enough that I think they could have trimmed it down by about 20 minutes. 2.9

It must be hard to follow up a monster like "Rumors", but this doesn't do it. The songs are okay but they fall flat and the production doesn't sound that great to me. I love Lindsey's guitar but I think Christine shines more on this. It didn't need to be a double album or so expensive to produce. There are a couple keepers, and if I listened to it a lot would probably say there are more, but I'm not going to return. 3.3

3.5. a fine album, but way underwhelming compared to rumors.

I think that I like Fleetwood Mac, and then I'll have to listen to a whole Fleetwood Mac album at once and start to doubt. I think this album suffered from listening to it at streaming quality in a way others don't so much. It also suffered from too much radio pop. Nothing anywhere near Dreams or the Chain but nothing as annoying as Don't Stop either. I might find some songs I quite like listening individually later. There's lots of nice melody/countermelody bits even in the songs that aren't much. music: hated. (⌐■_■)

title track gets em an extra star but this was pretty boring for the most part

Its ok...

Casual listen. Some standouts but not too many, and no bad songs at all

Solid album.

This is a fun and varied album, and while I don’t think every one of the 20 songs fully pay off, it’s a great listen through.

Really good casual listening but nothing really stood out to me. 3.5/5

Pretty solid, not a lot of standout songs but no real bad songs either.

That was satisfying, probably more of a 3.5

Sara. El disco bonito pero rollo.

✅✅ you can tell why rumors is the famous album. Sisters of the Moon is a hell of an end to disk one though. It's hard to earn a double album and im not sure Fleetwood Mac do here, but it's worth revisiting.

Fleetwood Mac is better with the hits

Not the easiest listen for a Fleetwood Mac album, but there are some great moments. You can sense the tension in some of the songs- must have been quite the ride.

Agradável mas pouco arrojado. Coloquei o álbum para tocar e ele ficou meio de plano de fundo, quando eu parava para prestar atenção percebia que era bem produzido e tinha algumas composições bem interessantes, mas no geral ele passou batido.

Solid 3. Enjoyed the slower songs, but there's a reason there are not many hits on this one. At least. None that I could divine.

i didnt like it not for me

Some good songs on here but it's just way too long

Langes vielseitiges Album mit gefälligem Sound.

Pretty nice. Didn’t hook me in as much as I hoped.

I’ve always thought I would like Fleetwood Mac more as I got older and sure enough I gave Rumours a spin about a year ago and enjoyed it. This record, however, isn’t for me. Though there are a few cool moments, particularly towards the end.

Surprisingly well produced even though the sounds are muted and the whole thing was a bit restrained.

No wonder Stevie Nicks hated that guy. Literally every time he took lead on a song I wanted to turn off the playlist. Album opener was my favorite song because of how much raw emotion came across.

over & over - totally fine but a little boring the ledge - what a jaunty little tune it physically pains me that this isn't a nick cave song think about me - is this yacht rock ( i cant wait to retire ) save me a place - best opening line of a song ever. this is a song that plays when someone's soul passes over sara - i cannot be convinced that there is a single soul on this earth who doesn't enjoy this sound what makes you think you're the one - i was not previously aware how much this album sounds like pirates very fun find storms- inarguably good but a little underwhelming that's all for everyone - this sounds like a cult hymn and should be like half of the length it is not that funny - another jaunty lil tune but this one is extra annoying sisters of the moon - the way the bass like, creeps in in the beginning of the song is fuckin CHEFS KISS like you know this song about to tell you a whole epic tale angel - this is a driving with the windows down kinda song that's enough for me - this sounds like a ho down being hosted by a complete raving madman brown eyes- ugh their moodier songs are so vastly superior to the fun ones. also this song sounds like a noir film never make me cry - it's fine but too ballady for me so an instant skip lol i know im not wrong - here we go again with fleetwood mac trying to have fun. this one works better than the other ones so far hi honey - very cute but i have no desire to actually hear it beautiful child - it's gorgeous but also too ballady for me to seek out often walk a thin line- this song just kinda sounds like nothing, like air tusk - this song is creepy as fuck and goes so hard. i bet danny elfman loves this song never forget - this song is so cute and feels like a warm hug after the rollercoaster ride of emotions that is this album overall several tracks just feel like any old run of the mill folk song, and the good tracks are SO good that it made them hard to sit through cause like...we know they make amazing songs so why did they make this boring one ya know? It's very solid overall though and has some great examples of their work that shows why the group is so legendary. Favorites: sisters of the moon, brown eyes, tusk

Tusk was kinda the best song on the album, which was kind of a let down

This is another album I haven't listened to before despite hearing about it for years. I was immediately struck by how stripped down this album is compared to Rumours and Fleetwood Mac (and other misc Fleetwood Mac songs I'm familiar with). While Tusk isn't lush in the same way that those albums are, it is meticulous. There are a lot of cool details in the instrumentation. I wonder if they felt they were taking a risk by stripping everything down or if it felt natural for the time? I think I liked this album? I’m not sure. I listened to the first half about 5 times but could never get all of the way through in one sitting, which makes me think I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to. Standout tracks: What Makes You Think You’re the One, Tusk

Another entry from one of the 20th century’s most overrated bands. Better than Rumours by some margin, but still fairly middling.

Good songs, not my favourite Fleetwood Mac album but ok

Chill enought, nothing amazing

I hadn't heard this album before, and while I did enjoy it, I don't think it reaches the same heights as Rumours. Made for pretty solid music to work to, as well.

I love "Rumours," but "Tusk" didn't make me feel much.

it's pretty nice but it goes on for entirely too long

Never been a big Fleetwood Mac fan, but this album - while a bit lengthy - is pretty enjoyable.

Solid album when Lindsey's songs don't come up. He was definitely try too hard to break away from the success of Rumours and it didn't go that well.

Sort of a double album post punk demo. Pretty raw but interesting

anderi albe gfalled mer meh

Good album, not in the same league as rumors

Liked it, but hard for me to listen to in one sitting. Need to come back to it

Kind of the Majora’s Mask to the Ocarina of Time of "Rumours," culturally. Came after a really tough act to follow, resulting in something weird that seems to be regarded better in hindsight than it was at the time, etc. For my own personal taste, though, I wasn't too into this one except for the muppet voices they used to sing the title song

No one was ever going to top “Rumours,” least of all the band that made the actual record. But “Tusk” is such an interesting record that maybe the point is moot. The title track is almost a novelty song: I remember all anyone could talk about when it was released was that it featured a college marching band. “Sara” is the best song on the record, and an all-time Stevie Nicks performance—catchy and yearning, it really casts a spell. The band wasn’t trying to follow up one of the best and most successful Pop albums of all time, they were just following their muse and probably exhausted from all the hype, touring, expectations, drugs, and emotional baggage. They did the best they could and there are some flashes of brilliance even if the whole listening experience is underwhelming but fine. Plus, the album cover is a real kiss-off and kind of iconic in its own right for being an almost anti-cover.

Very nice little chill album, enjoyed having it in the background while I was doing stuff early in the morning.

My experience before this album with Fleetwood Mac was the usual suspects. I only ended up really liking four or five songs on the double album. It was a little bit to moody for my tastes.

I’m torn on this one. I would say it genuinely took me by surprise on some tracks with sweeping but understated arrangements like Sara, unbelievably gorgeous. The very next track is Lindsey Buckingham yelping like a Pomeranian over a bad power pop riff. When it’s good, it’s some of the best music of 79. When it’s not, it’s not.

Not near as good as Rumours. Some good songs some not so good.

Итс окэй. Во всём этом слышится вот этот прото-инди-рок, из которого выйдут такие замечательные группы, как Arcade Fire или Broken Social Scene. Песни неплохие, голоса, вот это всё. Лучшая песня - Sara.

It’s ok, goes down smooth

I like the weirdo twist in the music. Also great voice. Best of their albums have ever heard. Not totally my music

Some mid-tier Fleetwood Mac

Way too long. I dig FM, but this felt repetitive. There were multiple songs on here that I felt I had just heard. Decent album but there are much better in their collection. Needed a good trimming to cut some of the time

A few songs I really liked, but overall, not that enjoyable.

the power of Christine McVie's songs probably the most overlooked songwriter by people who didn't know and thought Mac was all Nicks and Buckingham...

Good songs

Better than I expected. I’m glad I gave it more of a chance.

The album was pretty long, with a good number of mediocre songs. I liked some of them, especially the ones with Stevie Nicks. Each track had different writers and vocals, which meant different vibes, making it less cohesive overall. Album cover is cool.

The first couple of songs didn't sound very special, but it got better later on. I thought maybe I just had to get into this record, so I played it again. Those songs were just not that good. It has some very good moments, but I don't think this album needs to be on the list if Rumours is. Favorite song: Beautiful Child

Kinda too old for me, but still good. Will I listen to again: 25%

Don’t think I was familiar with any of these songs. In the words of Jackson, this was good but not my favorite. 3.5 rounded down to 3.

Couldn't get into this album, and didn't find it as enjoyable as Rumors

i enjoyed this as a sort of album you put on the background. did have some really good moments but i fear if you write rumours you can never quite follow it.

Was hoping for a bit more. A little too long, sleepy, and forgettable for me. Overall nothing terribly offensive or annoying so I'll give it an average score. I'm not sure how many other Fleetwood Mac albums I need after being familiar with Rumours. Maybe this list will change my mind but so far I think I'll just stick to revisiting Rumours when I need my FM itch scratched.

Great album

This album has three distinct moods: 1. Manic and unsettlingly energetic 2. Boring and bland 3. Lovely and mellow Not sure what to make of it, other than three stars.

I believe that Lindsay Buckingham thought this would be his magnum opus. I think most of this album was over ambitious. Over reaching for sure.

Lindsey was off the henny for this one.

Not the expected pick for Fleetwood Mac, so I'm guessing there are multiple albums on the list. Tusk wasn't a bad album but when a popular band has an album with this many songs I haven't heard of, I kind of rely on history for being the judge on these tracks and are relatively unknown for some reason. At any rate, it was fine to have on while doing chores. Normally I'd be reading up about what the circumstances are that lead to this album being forgotten by radio and that could give some extra helpful context. Favorite track "Not That Funny" 3/5

A bit indulgent, like many double albums. It could be a four if five songs removed...

Way too long

As opposed to Rumours who is a cohesive masterclass in popmusic, this record sounds a bit all over the place. Some of the songs sounds like not quite finished demoes, whilst others are really great, Sisters of the Moon is a great example. I really dont feel this record, even though most of the music is well crafted.

2.6 Maybe 2-3 songs that I ended up liking. Didnt have enough depth to fill out a double album

This is such a a weird app, it played songs from the album, but didn't play Tusk, then it plays other stuff by different artists, too. Tusk is my favorite Fleetwood Mac song

Upon catching lighting in a bottle, the bottle inevitably shatters

Not as good as rumours, was ok

It's okay. Nice background music for working

Tough follow up album. Enjoyable, but not as memorable

Probably a bit long overall and I preferred the women's contributions (unlike the critics at the time, it would seem) - none of the Lindsey Buckingham-led stuff had the impact of, say, Never Going Back Again or Go Your Own Way. I will always be here for Stevie Nicks's voice and lyrics. Didn't really get the title track but I'm told it can be appreciated on a baser level, lol.

Always got time for Fleetwood Mac, even if it’s a LOT of time all in one go. Some gems (TUSK!) and some filler; following Rumours was always going to be nigh on impossible…

Certainly doesn't reach the pop peaks of Rumors. Nothing incredible here but overall a listenable album

It’s just not rumours, it’s great but I’d nearly always have rumours on instead

An uneven mix. I enjoyed the songs The Ledge and That’s All for Everyone and That’s Enough for Me and Tusk, but not much more than that. The song Tusk sounded pretty good cranked up in a car. Maybe some bands should have a best-of compilation on this list instead of specific albums.

I’ve never really liked Fleetwood Mac, especially Stevie Nicks. However, because I am not the only one curating my growing vinyl collection, there are several of their albums included. I recently listened to Rumors on vinyl and begrudgingly loved it. So, I had mixed hopes about this one. I liked it and admit that they ar ever talented. Good musicianship and well produced/made. Some of the songs didn’t hit for me, though, and it was overly long. All in all, I’m coming around on them, but I think this just isn’t one of my favorites of theirs.

This album certainly ebbed and flowed for me, sometimes just when you thought things were getting a bit boring a song that really catches your attention comes along. Unfortunately, its this inconsistency that means I can't give it higher than 3 stars, but I'd probably return to it again to give it another chance.

Sara is by far the stand out track.

A bit corny at parts A little messy Stevie went crazy

Well this was weird. The Buckingham pieces stood out and in reading I get what they were trying to do but it doesn't mean it's a great listen.

This album *sounds* like classic Fleetwood Mac, but none of the songs are memorable and it meanders forever with weird, incoherent Buckingham songs. Why is this on the top album list? It's like they have just made an album of unfinished parts of songs. So strange.

Pleasant but never got there.

We had a cd of Rumors in the house growing up but I didn't listen to this one closely until later. I always think I want to listen to it but really I just want to rock out to The Ledge and then move on with my day

I remember being a child listening to the song "Tusk" and having my mind blown by the marching band and how huge the song felt. The song still rocks, but the rest of the album isn't as fun.

Nothing compared to rumors, good instrumentals and a decent amount of variability and replayability

Pretty boring and nothing stands out. Nowhere near their best works.

I didn't hate it but it really doesn't re-capture the magic of Rumours.

It's definitely an interesting listen , but it is stretched out. The good tracks are sprinkled on between mellow, slow and honestly boring tracks . Loved Sara, Honey Hi , sisters of the moon, that's all for everyone and even the title track . But the others just weren't that interesting. The album falls short of rumours, and is definitely a cocaine album . Can't really say much about it other than its decent

For the sake of this review let's forget that Rumours happened because anything else is going to pale in comparison. I walk away from this one impressed, it's better than I thought it would be but I still get the feeling that it would have been better to make a very strong single album by cutting out all the padding that made this into a double album. (I'm looking mainly at you Lindsey Buckingham, I think the women fared much better in the song writing.) It was an enjoyable listen.

This album really fell flat for me, didn’t like it nearly as much as Rumours. Nothing I disliked, it just didn’t keep my attention.

Overlong, and it took 5 songs before Stevie Nicks shows up. I was willing to give this the benefit of a doubt but this is the album after Rumours. It's a major step down imo. 3/5

Look, not every album can be Rumours

Loses a star for being a double album, per my usual. The Stevie Nick's songs sound like Stevie Nick's, but the rest is pretty great!

Fleetwood Mac’s follow-up to Rumours was never going to hit that pulse again, but it is pretty good. Fleetwood Mac came a long way from their blues rock roots in the 60s into pop rock perfection on their 1975 self-titled album and 1977’s Rumours, and then waned a little with Tusk and afterwards. Tusk feels like they were experimenting a bit and toned down the arrangements and mixing compared to Rumours. It’s not bad, and it’s a neat direction for the group, but it’s not great. It also feels way too long, like they were trying out too many things and decided to just include everything on this double album. But it ends up being quantity over quality and gets boring by the end, to the point that I’m barely interested by the time “Tusk” (the second-to-last track) comes on. That song is hella good though.

A comedown to an amazing preceding album

На фоне послушать ничего так, сойдёт, но до 4х звёзд всётаки не дотянули.

Chill late 70s music. Was okay.

Not sure

Hate Fleetwood Mac sadly, still not too bad overall

Very enjoyable album on the whole. Goes on a bit too long and there were a few songs I didn't particularly enjoy, but glad I copped this. Fav Track: Save me a place 3.5/5

There’s a lot of parts to this album - a lot of them good, but only a couple great. Its length maybe serves as a detractor rather than a device for artistic brevity. Nicks and McVie’s vocals are a standout for the album, and honestly I thought pretty much every track was alright. But you just know they’ve done better. Hope there’s some Peter Green eta Fleetwood Mac somewhere on this list. Three and a half. Fave track: The Ledge

i like storms a lot

This seems like the band took an opportunity to wander in the enormous shadow of the monster. Overall it is solid but uneven where the step away from the formula did not work. The trademarks are there but not in abundance.

Classic pitfall of the double album: filler. Cut Lindsey's shitty, unfinished experiments and some of Christine's more boring tracks and this album is an easy 4 stars.

This did not need to be a 2 record album. Some of these songs could have been shaved down too. There are some real gems included here, but you have to wade through some flotsam to get to them. If you put those together and jettison the trash, you'd have an album paralleling Rumors. Maybe push Sara on to Sides 3 & 4 and there's your record.

I’m not the biggest Fleetwood Mac fan around. This album is lame. Only highlights are Stevie Nicks songs and they are all pretty lackluster - only song that caught my attention was Angel. The “upbeat” Buckkngham songs are so dumb. Like me the morning after the Super Bowl, this album is bloated. All that said I get the importance of FM, just don’t understand the dynamic of the band and not sure I care enough to find out.

Definitely feels like a midpoint for the band. Given the early sonic signature of the band as a blues outfit, this transformative release tries to go a lot of different places. However, it is certainly shy of the goal they land on in later releases. "Sara", "Tusk" and a few others stand out, but it demonstrates their ability to make great songs, not necessarily cohesive albums.

A defeeinte let down from their previous release 'Rumors". "Sara" and 'Tusk" are whaat you know and will enjoy.; the rest just gets muddled. Also - producer has some odd choices of play list - lead with your strengths; a tepid intro to the album.

As others havne e said, it is a bit of a mish-mash.... Some great songs (Tusk), some not so much.... Worth a listen, but not really that memorable.

Sara and Tusk - two of my favorite songs. Otherwise, not much else.

This is my least favorite FM album 😬. And I’m a hardcore fan. Albert that story doesn’t surprise me. Lindsey feels unhinged, the whole band feels like they’re trying so hard to be something they’re not.

Better than expected. Clearly thoughtful and layered. Very easy-breezy in many ways despite this being their punk-influenced record. Still not a F-M fan, but major props for good tunes.

Not a great follow up to Rumours but not bad and a few good songs

Niet mijn ding. Te slap. Maar opzich wel mooi

Some decent tracks, some meh ones. Definitely can hear the influences of early punk.

Storms and I know I'm Not Wrong are both good songs. This is my least favorite album with the GOAT lineup.

It's okay. All I could think about was listening to other Fleetwood Mac

Relaxed music, good songs
