Certainly doesn't reach the pop peaks of Rumors. Nothing incredible here but overall a listenable album

Mistæk plata finnst mér. Auðvitað erfitt að fylgja eftir Rumours en ég átta mig ekki tilraunamennskunni sem á að vera á þessari plötu. Flest Lindsay lögin finnst mér leiðinleg, stelpurnar halda þessari plötu uppi. Mikið af fallegum lögum eins og Storm og Sara. Ekki góð hugmynd að skella í dobbel albúm.

An uneven mix. I enjoyed the songs The Ledge and That’s All for Everyone and That’s Enough for Me and Tusk, but not much more than that. The song Tusk sounded pretty good cranked up in a car. Maybe some bands should have a best-of compilation on this list instead of specific albums.

Quite a while back, I read a collection of Greil Marcus essays. His review of Tusk made me very curious to check it out, because like most people born in the late seventies Rumours is imprinted on my brain. And it’s great, of course. But Tusk! What a furry pachyderm of a record, a sublime mixture of classic Mac with some skewed pop like The Ledge and the title track. Every time I listen I’m taken by how the whole eclectic stew works together. And if nothing else, you get some of the greatest songs Stevie Nicks ever wrote (Storms alone is essential.) Love love love it.

I’ve never really liked Fleetwood Mac, especially Stevie Nicks. However, because I am not the only one curating my growing vinyl collection, there are several of their albums included. I recently listened to Rumors on vinyl and begrudgingly loved it. So, I had mixed hopes about this one. I liked it and admit that they ar ever talented. Good musicianship and well produced/made. Some of the songs didn’t hit for me, though, and it was overly long. All in all, I’m coming around on them, but I think this just isn’t one of my favorites of theirs.

This album certainly ebbed and flowed for me, sometimes just when you thought things were getting a bit boring a song that really catches your attention comes along. Unfortunately, its this inconsistency that means I can't give it higher than 3 stars, but I'd probably return to it again to give it another chance.

The follow up to Rumors. A band where the love is gone, the creativity has still bound them together and they must still search for the sound. Buckingham was going for broke to be an artist and the deep scars were still there for all the stars. The commitment is now to the work over the love but the album shows the moment in time. It's long, it's weird, it's over the top. But it's cool.

Bit of a mish-mash, with contrasting styles being more prevalent here. Was always going to be a challenge to present something as incredible after Rumours. Sisters of the Moon is superb, and the title track is a record-breaking hoot. 4 stars for me.

(Is it that weird, disconnected drum solo or the farting tuba?) Never Forget - Truly don’t think we’ll forget how they mailed this one in; too long, not that good. These guys have way better (1.5*s)

Day56 - it’s not rumours but it’s still really good

Well this was weird. The Buckingham pieces stood out and in reading I get what they were trying to do but it doesn't mean it's a great listen.

Gulp… I don’t like rock. Is this even rock? Or is it country… it’s rock 2.5/5 - I liked it more than most rock, I like that it has chill songs. Prob would not listen to it again though

This album *sounds* like classic Fleetwood Mac, but none of the songs are memorable and it meanders forever with weird, incoherent Buckingham songs. Why is this on the top album list? It's like they have just made an album of unfinished parts of songs. So strange.

We had a cd of Rumors in the house growing up but I didn't listen to this one closely until later. I always think I want to listen to it but really I just want to rock out to The Ledge and then move on with my day

I remember being a child listening to the song "Tusk" and having my mind blown by the marching band and how huge the song felt. The song still rocks, but the rest of the album isn't as fun.

Title track is fun and playful, but the rest is an insipid, disjointed slog. This is music for divorced aunts who live for drama and have no self-awareness to clutch their shawls and sway too.

Christ Almighty you can't be serious. This album should only be considered important because it's a lesson in why you don't want to make art without limits. One star for the one good song ("Tusks").

It's definitely an interesting listen , but it is stretched out. The good tracks are sprinkled on between mellow,slow and honestly boring tracks . Loved Sara, Honey Hi , sisters of the moon, that's all for everyone and even the title track . But the others just weren't that interesting. The album falls short of rumours, and is definitely a cocaine album . Can't really say much about it other than its decent

Fleetwood Mac can do little wrong. I kept wanting to -1 star just because Rumours is slightly better, but then a little melody here and there would pick me back up.

Enjoyable album. Had not heard most of the tunes.

For the sake of this review let's forget that Rumours happened because anything else is going to pale in comparison. I walk away from this one impressed, it's better than I thought it would be but I still get the feeling that it would have been better to make a very strong single album by cutting out all the padding that made this into a double album. (I'm looking mainly at you Lindsey Buckingham, I think the women fared much better in the song writing.) It was an enjoyable listen.

I was vaguely familiar with Tusk, being familiar with Sara and the title song. For me, taken as a whole, this album is breathtaking. This is definitely a different direction from their prior blockbuster album, Rumours. Of the songwriters (Nicks/Buckingham/McVie), each has a more weaker tune, but McVie knows how to craft a perfect pop song and I love her singing. Stevie's songs seem the strongest of the bunch. Lindsey is definitely adventurous in his experimentation but kind of comes of uneven. Faves of each.... Nicks: Sisters of the Moon and Sara (remains my overall favorite) McVie: Over & Over and Think About Me Buckingham: I know I'm not Wrong and Tusk. I really miss Christine McVie.

All the usual components of Fleetwood Mac were there, so the album was already good by default. This one kind of lacked some of the magic of their other stuff, and there wasn't nearly enough Stevie

This album really fell flat for me, didn’t like it nearly as much as Rumours. Nothing I disliked, it just didn’t keep my attention.

Overlong, and it took 5 songs before Stevie Nicks shows up. I was willing to give this the benefit of a doubt but this is the album after Rumours. It's a major step down imo. 3/5

Tusk feels like the kind of bloated follow-up to a blockbuster that a lot of filmmakers were making around this time, ala Heaven’s Gate or One from the Heart. And like most of those, there’s plenty of brilliance to dig through in between fluff. This might just be TOO much Fleetwood Mac, while Rumours was almost perfectly paced, but the good stuff is worth digging through. The title track especially, even if that will (or should, anyway) forever be associated with The Americans. B-

This album sounds like a million bucks. ...And it's worth every penny. It's impossible to separate the music from the situations that surrounded its production. Every indulgence, argument, excess, and drug-fueled emotion is meticulously committed to each recorded note. Did it need to be a double-album? There is no simple Yes or No. Sure, there are some clunky tracks. But even they have moments of shimmering brilliance. This is Fleetwood Mac with all members' egos at maximum power. They were essentially making solo albums together and everyone had to have their fair share of real estate on the record. Hell, Stevie doesn't even get a lead vocal until the fourth song. This isn't the hit machine that "Rumours" was. It didn't need to be. This was their "White Album". The Mac were already rich and powerful enough to get weird for a little bit. A marching band? Sure! Why not? *SSSSnnnnnoooorrrttt* Four and one-half stars. Reduced by one half-star because it's Fleetwood Mac's fault that I have dated too many women named "Rhiannon". Just kidding... it's because the album is just a little too long.

Look, not every album can be Rumours

Loses a star for being a double album, per my usual. The Stevie Nick's songs sound like Stevie Nick's, but the rest is pretty great!

I enjoyed this album, not as much as thier prev. more popular album Rumores. Thier sound is somewhat different; I will likely come back and check it out again. Still a solid, clean group. 4/5

Sara is a beautiful song.

Fleetwood Mac’s follow-up to Rumours was never going to hit that pulse again, but it is pretty good. Fleetwood Mac came a long way from their blues rock roots in the 60s into pop rock perfection on their 1975 self-titled album and 1977’s Rumours, and then waned a little with Tusk and afterwards. Tusk feels like they were experimenting a bit and toned down the arrangements and mixing compared to Rumours. It’s not bad, and it’s a neat direction for the group, but it’s not great. It also feels way too long, like they were trying out too many things and decided to just include everything on this double album. But it ends up being quantity over quality and gets boring by the end, to the point that I’m barely interested by the time “Tusk” (the second-to-last track) comes on. That song is hella good though.

Only ever heard Rumours - I loved this! I thought it moved well, the different tones of stanky country, tender balladry, and big time pop rock made for a compelling album throughout. At 20 tracks I maybe didn't vibe with every one, but on the whole this really surprised me. Fave track: Beautiful Child

There’s a lot of parts to this album - a lot of them good, but only a couple great. Its length maybe serves as a detractor rather than a device for artistic brevity. Nicks and McVie’s vocals are a standout for the album, and honestly I thought pretty much every track was alright. But you just know they’ve done better. Hope there’s some Peter Green eta Fleetwood Mac somewhere on this list. Three and a half. Fave track: The Ledge

I'm usually very sympathetic to the little sibling of the really popular guy/girl (I'm talking Tusk vs Rumours of course). But Tusk really falls short for me I'm afraid.

This seems like the band took an opportunity to wander in the enormous shadow of the monster. Overall it is solid but uneven where the step away from the formula did not work. The trademarks are there but not in abundance.

Classic pitfall of the double album: filler. Cut Lindsey's shitty, unfinished experiments and some of Christine's more boring tracks and this album is an easy 4 stars.

This did not need to be a 2 record album. Some of these songs could have been shaved down too. There are some real gems included here, but you have to wade through some flotsam to get to them. If you put those together and jettison the trash, you'd have an album paralleling Rumors. Maybe push Sara on to Sides 3 & 4 and there's your record.

I’m not the biggest Fleetwood Mac fan around. This album is lame. Only highlights are Stevie Nicks songs and they are all pretty lackluster - only song that caught my attention was Angel. The “upbeat” Buckkngham songs are so dumb. Like me the morning after the Super Bowl, this album is bloated. All that said I get the importance of FM, just don’t understand the dynamic of the band and not sure I care enough to find out.

Great album, some big hits and some funky tunes. Exactly what I expected.

Definitely feels like a midpoint for the band. Given the early sonic signature of the band as a blues outfit, this transformative release tries to go a lot of different places. However, it is certainly shy of the goal they land on in later releases. "Sara", "Tusk" and a few others stand out, but it demonstrates their ability to make great songs, not necessarily cohesive albums.

A defeeinte let down from their previous release 'Rumors". "Sara" and 'Tusk" are whaat you know and will enjoy.; the rest just gets muddled. Also - producer has some odd choices of play list - lead with your strengths; a tepid intro to the album.

Some good to excellent Nicks & McVie songs. Usually a Buckingham fan, but not here.

I personally like this album! It has a different sound. It's hard to live up to the others. Also, our son Freeman's favorite movie about dinosaurs had "Tusk" on the soundtrack. He played it over and over. Kind of miss hearing it.

This album gets better every time I hear it. "The Ledge", "Sara" "Storms" "I Know I'm Not Wrong", "Tusk", many of my favorite FM songs. It's a departure from their previous albums. You all should definitely read this Wikipedia - Lindsey Buckingham was a maniac during the recording apparenetly "For certain songs, Buckingham played a Kleenex box" "Early on, he came in and he'd freaked out in the shower and cut off all his hair with nail scissors. He was stressed" was determined to make the band sound less like "Rumors" and more like the Talking Heads.

This is my least favorite FM album 😬. And I’m a hardcore fan. Albert that story doesn’t surprise me. Lindsey feels unhinged, the whole band feels like they’re trying so hard to be something they’re not.

Solid 4.5. Fleetwood always puts me in a good mood. The softness of the ladies voices with rock n roll is a sweet spot.

Weed out many of the Buckingham songs, keep all the Christy and Stevie songs, and this album would be a five star for me. But as a whole, and compared to the perfection of Rumors, Tusk is a four.

Better than expected. Clearly thoughtful and layered. Very easy-breezy in many ways despite this being their punk-influenced record. Still not a F-M fan, but major props for good tunes.

Not a great follow up to Rumours but not bad and a few good songs

Thought I was a fan... always heard great things about this album but after listening to this album, I've come to realize... I'm a greatest hits of Fleetwood Mac...

Look… Rumours is out of the way. One of the best albums of all time. A huge commercial success and on the backs the tumultuous relationships from the band that created it. The decision can be to attempt to top it, or realize that there is no need and the next can be whatever you want it to be. The latter is what I feel the band chose. They had all of the pain and magic of the previous album and they had the ability to capture the magic again. Any of these songs could have been on Rumours; they are all as strong as the hits. If anything hindered this album, it was the unbelievable success, the accompanied expectations, and the general darker tone of these songs. As If the message is still the same but the minor chords and reverb where increased to more express the pain. That resonates with me. The band knew they had freedom, and they didn’t squander it. They produced something beautiful, something that stands on its own.

An absolute manic album and once you accept it is not going to be "Rumours," then give yourself up to Lindsay Buckingham's vision then you can enjoy it more. He desperately wanted to make art-pop and have the new trends in music influence this album and he succeeded. "Think About Me" is as good as anything else that appears on "Rumours" and "That's All for Everyone" could have come right off a Lindsay Buckingham solo album. The best answer on how to follow up a great, massive-selling album is to simply not follow it up. Steer away from the tide and try something totally different, which could only be aided by a lot a lot a lot of cocaine. "Tusk" is too long, bloated at times and is not straight pop-rock like pretty much all of Fleetwood Mac's other albums. Give it some time and I think you can see it is not "Rumours" but that's also not a bad thing.

God, I hate Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac. No soul, nothing interesting, just bland and boring. How is this the Fleetwood Mac everyone knows? Why not albatross? Kiln house? Bare trees? Those are what people should listen to.

Storms and I know I'm Not Wrong are both good songs. This is my least favorite album with the GOAT lineup.

4.2 - If “Rumours” comes on like passionate lovemaking, “Tusk” sounds more like post-coital pillow talk, especially with tracks like “Over and Over.” I like this record and agree with the “White Album” comparisons given some of its rougher edges. Tusk's Apple Music description describes the record as Lindsey Buckingham's desire to make another good album and "would die on his cross to make a point." So... yeah... I'd like to say that I like this record, but I realized each song I enjoyed was lead by Stevie and Christie; the songs in between are some of the worst songs I've ever heard in my life. Did Buckingham make a point? If any, it's that he'd be nothing without Stevie Nicks and Christie McVie, and there will never be another Rumours album. I havent listened to much Fleetwood Mac, but this album has given me much more motivation to do so. Between four and five.

A band at the height of their power, with songwriting chops to rival the best of them, come out with a sprawling, frenetic, all-directions double album. Sound familiar? In Fleetwood Mac’s hands, it’s probably the only path after Rumors. Reinvention. And you can just hear them trying, hard, to get somewhere. And kind of spinning their wheels! The guitar sound in particular is a standout… this punk, almost grungey, dirty sound played with this wildness. But they’re still Fleetwood Mac, and their songwriting abilities just come out, like it’s nothing. It’s not the White Album, but I’m reminded of that somewhat, in that the songwriting is so natural that, even when they don’t seem to want to write a song, they end up getting one anyway. And that back-to-basics, blues infused sound gets them far. This is a Really Good Band. You can just hear the energy in the way they play as a group. It’s locked, energetic, fun, dangerous energy. “Storms” is a song to make you cry. Stevie Nicks can just take you there. Everyone’s been there. The hurt in her voice, the real despair. She is so powerful on that song. I don’t think they ever land on a definitive “sound” here. Which is interesting. For all the attempts, it still sounds like “Fleetwood Mac trying hard to get somewhere new.” But… every song has something to love in it. A funny riff, a stray line, something about the production that makes you do a double take and rewind 15 seconds. I just love hearing the band of the moment, fresh off Rumours, try to jam it out, searching, looking for the new source of inspiration. Amazing to witness. I love the fun and the danger. Also… I have a personal connection to this album. It was made in studio D at the Village, the Tusk Room— created for this album! And what a cool room. I have a history with that studio, and the few sessions I’ve done there have been standouts. I love to imagine this band working in there, newly completed but probably not quite done, trying to figure it out. I love albums where they made a recording studio just to make the album. A surprising number of them! 5/5. Weird, creatively risky, fun. Serious play. I love it.

Such a great album. I like it more than rumors. The song "Tusk" is outstanding, Not that funny too (especially in a live version). Over & over is wonderful. Easy decision: 5 stars!

I said it about Rumours and I’ll say it again about this record: No one would give half a fuck about this band if they weren’t an absolute trainwreck of cocaine and affairs. That the album covers of their most successful records are beige is fitting because they are exceptionally inoffensive and middle of the road. You want a Fleetwood Mac record you should actually hear before you die? Go listen to Bare Trees.

Nice album, Fleetwood Mac aren't as big in Brazil as here, so I don't know a lot (except for Dreams playing at my dentist's office) so nice to listen to some more stuff, but not their best I'd say :)

Pre-Listening: 1. I love Lindsey Buckingham and think he’s a wildly underrated songwriter, producer, and guitarist. 2.) I think Christine McVie is a fantastic songwriter and most of my favorite Fleetwood Mac songs are McVie tunes. 3.) I think Stevie Nicks is crazy overrated and I think Stevie Nicks’ Fleetwood Mac songs are overexposed, and maybe I once liked them but not anymore because I can never escape them. 4.) This album, with Nicks-Buckingham’s relationship over, curiously has few Nicks songs and many Buckingham and Christine McVie songs. That means I have hope that I’m going to like this one. From what I’ve read it’s like a Buckingham fever dream. 5.) For anyone who is unfamiliar with Fleetwood Mac and the interpersonal turmoil that fed their songwriting, you should read about it. It’s crazy. In short, there are two couples in the band that broke up during the writing and recording of the previous album to this one, Rumours, and that album ended up being one of the most successful — both critically and by album sales — of all time. Many of the songs are bitterly directed at other members of the band, and I don’t think there’s been anything similar to it in the history of modern music. Listening: Calm McVie song, then The Ledge which is pretty manic. Another calm McVie song. Then, what seems like a Buckingham spiritual. Nicks’ Sara, an overplayed radio song. There’s more soap opera drama behind this song too if you look it up. That’s Enough for Me - much needed energy from Buckingham with a fuzzy bass underneath. Buckingham’s guitar works elevates Nicks’ Sisters of the Moon. Three good Buckingham tunes carry the back half of the album: I Know I’m Not Wrong - Sounds like all the Buckingham songs are still about Nicks. Can’t blame him, she did a number on him, including having an affair with the drummer, Mick Fleetwood. Two more songs which may be the best on the album: Walk A Thin Line and Tusk. Is this a great album? Nah. I do feel confirmation that all Buckingham songs kind of sound the same, all McVie songs kind of sound the same, and all Nicks songs sound the same. I just like the Buckingham songs better.

I liked it. I am a Fleetwood Mac fan

Made me wonder if I'm more into Stevie Nicks than into Fleetwood Mac as a whole, as I really enjoyed her tracks the most. A lot of the McVie stuff was rrrrreally mellow. I am not sure what about this is supposed to be such a "huge departure" from Rumours, which it followed up. Some of it sounds like it could be B-sides. It's messy, and it's long, but absolutely worth the listen.

Unfortunately as bland as the album cover art. I’m never a fan of a “double album” like this. Like come on, cut it down to just down to essential tracks. Lindsey buckingham christie mcvie and Stevie nicks vocals are still timeless but not enough to make this shine. I was surprised to read in the little “wiki” section that this was supposed to be an experimental album, as it feels very weak and almost intentional to not be like rumors

Likable. There were a few songs that were especially enjoyable, but nothing jumped out at me. I bet if I listened to it a few more times I would like it more, but this is 1001 albums and competition is fierce. Interesting that this was the album directly after the album with Dreams/Everywhere/etc. it didn’t have any comparable hits.

I feel like it works really well from beginning to end. But I don’t think the songs standout so much as they work really well in the flow of the album. Not sure that I will return to re-listen to it more than once but I am going to give it another chance.

I don't know if a half hungover 2-hour drive home after a bachelor party is the best way to review an album, but this might have been the best album for this environment. No major standout songs. No real highs or lows. A steady enjoyable sound. That being said, when I want to listen to Fleetwood Mac I won't be coming here.

Some bangers, some misses.

Was a bit long for me and I started to lose interest towards the end, but most of the music was enjoyable

A somewhat maligned album but I enjoyed it, in it's entirety, with the pauses, as Lindsay Buckingham intended it to be heard.

It’s not my favorite for them but I still enjoyed it.

Outstanding drum and bass performances. Different sound for them. Solid, not my favorite.

Listened first to Tusk, and I enjoyed it, but I think from the reviews I’m reading it seems like the way to truly understand and possibly appreciate this album is to listen to the whole thing because it’s said to be so chaotic and disparate. So I will try to do that at some point.

It was impossible to match "Rumours." Fleetwood Mac doesn't even try here. They opt for a very different approach. A magnum opus of twenty tracks where they explore all their possibilities as a band. A sampler of pop finesse to savor listen after listen. Here there is not the immediacy of their previous two works with Buckingham and Nicks, the will to endure over time dominates more. And they succeed

Melódico- Trankilator

Impossible not to compare, and this one lacked the real punch that Rumors has. I can definitely agree that it seems more of a collection of individual solo songs rather than a group effort for each. It had a lot of really strong lyrical moments, and that could possibly be because the overall vibe was a bit more subdued and less upbeat.

Fascinating mix of R&B and bluegrass influences. It lacks the catchiness of other albums by Fleetwood Mac. Enjoyable, a bit offbeat.

Mid, tbh. Good, but

This album is very front loaded. I loved the first half, banger after banger, timeless classic after timeless classic. However, this album fails to keep my attention for much longer than half of it, with the second half being very bloated and full of songs that are either boring, or even a few that I found annoying to hear. There were a handful of standout tracks in the second half, most notably beautiful child, and the titles track. But on the whole this album burns itself out very quickly

I mean rumours is a very difficult album to follow and some of these songs are very good but each one doesn't feel unique and different. They all kind of meld into one. It's definitely not a bad album and there are some good songs on here. But it's just not got that kind of replayability. It's just quite samey

I only listened to half of this. It’s no Rumours.

A great sprawling album meandering between hits led mainly with Stevie's voice and talent. I do like Lindsey though but he stayed pinned to the band. Still, this is a massive album.

Another good album by Fleetwood Mac, easy listening but not an album I'll regularly return to on my own accord. A few good songs, several that are forgettable or sound too similar for my tastes.

Much better than I remembered it

Why is it more famous as Rumors? Because of Tusk? Ok, but the rest is nothing special, all la-la-la songs. The Ledge and Sara are a bit better, but that's all.

Although it took me by surprise, I really like the change in main vocals on this album. I previously thought no one can top Stevie's voice but then a Buckingham song comes on and I had myself a great debate. I think the draw of this album is that manic, disorganized feel that it does really well. It goes from lo-fi and mellow to banging on a shed and I love it for that. No other band could do this better so caps off. 3.5 stars because I love Fleetwood Mac.

Title song and Sara...maybe a couple others on there but barely. Surprised this makes the list from Fleetwood. If this album made it, I know at least 2 of their others are showing up.

Pretty solid album. I can't say there are any bad songs on it. At the same time I can't say there are any great songs on it. I appreciate the mixed vocals but Stevie Nicks vocals tend to elevate a song up a notch compared to the others. Some of the quick hit songs are fun, but I can't say I'll come back to this album with better Fleetwood options out there. 2.84 stars.

My favorite track is Sara. Its simple a great song. Great atmosphere, good vibes. But there are other great songs on the album like Over 6 over or Storms.

1979 was the year of double albums: The Wall, London Calling, and Tusk. Each had notable showstoppers. In the famously quirky Tusk, those showstoppers are the title track and "Sara." The former is Peak Lindsey, the latter Peak Stevie. Those two songs alone make this album a rewarding listen, but don't overlook hidden gems like "Brown Eyes" and "Walk A Thin Line."

As a kid, I was absolutely crazy for the song Tusk when it came out. This was one of the very first albums I ever owned. I never cared for the other songs on the album, except for Sara. Now, 40+ years later, the song Tusk is still good but not the anthem it was for me back then. I still love Sara, and love Sisters of the Moon. A couple other songs I like, but the rest are meh to me. I also noted a lot of Led Zeppelin influence that I hadn't realized before. This is not on the whole a five-star album for me, but the strength of the singles make it a must-listen, so I'm pushing it to a five for reasons.

Over and Over not exactly a ripper of an opener. The Ledge picks things up but not exactly something I’d want to listen to again. It’s at least musically interesting. Think About Me is kind of just there. Not offensive, not great. Save Me A Place tries to be ambitious. Kind of see this sound later with REM. More interesting than actually good to listen to. Sara sounds like a more traditional Fleetwood Mac song, very pretty. What Makes You Think You’re The One is a rowdy Buckingham number. Not bad. Storms is pretty, another song that actually sounds like a FM track. That’s All for Everyone is fun, kind of wacky. Sounds like it was more fun to make than listen to. Not That Funny is not that good either. Abrasive. Sisters of the Moon is atmospheric, good beat. Angel has me convinced I’m Team Stevie not Team Lindsey That’s Enough For Me is a rollicking Lindsey song. A little frantic and fun. Brown Eyes is a pretty Christine song. Bit meandering. Never Make Me Cry is another pretty Christine song. Not really memorable. I Know I’m Not Wrong is another LB jam, a little more reserved and the better for it. Honey Hi is another Christine song, pretty but slight Beautiful Child is a longer Stevie song, not bad Walk A Thin Line is pretty good, layered and solid. Maybe my favorite song on this weird album. Tusk follows almost like a blend and it’s boisterous and fun Album closer Never Forget has some nice playing on it. Pleasant enough way to end the sprawling album. Was this a double LP when it was released? It has 20 songs on it. 6/10

How do you follow up on the greatest album of all time? Throw a whole lot of shit at the wall and see what sticks. Luckily this is Fleetwood Mac so most of it does. Still too long though. 7/1001

Subdued album - not bad but I think they have had better albums

An interesting conglomeration of tracks. Mostly interesting as a record of a group of incredibly talented individuals imploding as a band.

Tusk

I find it really odd that only two Fleetwood Mac albums are included on this list. One of them is the obvious, but Tusk being the other one seems weird. Especially considering they have a number of other solid albums to choose. But either way, this is my first time listening to a full record from them. This is a beefy album. 74 minutes and 20 tracks can make or break a listening experience. Thankfully, every song has some form of substance to it. But I have to be honest. I only liked about half of the track list. Simply because some of these feel like filler. They could have cut many of these songs out to benefit the listener. There is multiple people who sing on this record at one time, but the best one is by far Stevie. I feel like everyone kind of knows this already, but still. Her songs are consistently the best ones on the album. They are also consistently the highest rated tracks on the album. This was also apparently inspired by post-punk music. And personally I don’t really hear it. There is only one song where I can feel that influence, and that is the title track. This is also coincidentally the best song. Why doesn’t every song sound like this? I wish they made an entire record of this sound. I never thought I needed Fleetwood Mac with a brass section in my life until now, but I want more of it. Rating: 7/10

long album. starts with a slow song. don't think I could get through this album without skipping as soon as I'm bored. it's not a bad album, but it's not the kind of thing I listen to when I look for something new. What Makes You Think You're the One is the only song to catch me attention so far. to review or listen to this properly, I'd need to know the context around it. it doesn't sound like anything I haven't heard Walk a Thin Line is interesting, my favourite so far. it's pretty diverse when it comes to sounds and their arrangement, and I'm a big fan of that. the highlights in the album are inspired and have an identity Never Forget does that weird change to the musical boring place that I see. just vamp and lead it back into the other part, that'll work... I'm not a fan of the slower songs, I just get bored too quickly, but the parts I liked, I liked a lot.

Beside the excellent titel track, the music is boring. I can't say, if the lyrics are more exciting, because my english isn't that good.

Really nice album, some really nice relaxing songs, some more upbeat, a few added to 'idk what to call this' (4). A good Fleetwood mac album to listen to while doing work (revision, homework,Textiles,etc). Has 20 songs in total and just over an hour long, easy and enjoyable listening, could be a good album to do some cover songs on in the future

Decent

The first Fleetwood Mac album I listened to was "Then Play On" and I was fascinated. In my opinion it should have been on the list instead of "Tusk". Still some nice songs on "Tusk", but not quite the style I like.

Different from Rumors, but still not really my thing. I can appreciate they are talented.

Not exactly what you envision when you hear “coke-fueled rock and roll,” but here we are. A great album from what is probably the world’s most dysfunctional, and yet somehow incredibly successful band. I mean, this band spun gold out of their shitty lives. And though this album belies the problems roiling underneath the sound, you can’t help but think of their story anytime you listen to any of their albums. The standouts here are standouts for a reason, but the whole album is a delight.

Lied 5 („Sara“) bisher eigentlich am besten. Inzwischen bin ich bei Lied 8 und es ist irgendwie immer noch nicht geil. Natürlich ist das nicht schlecht, aber ist nicht das Richtige für mich, zumindest nicht jetzt.

Have never listened to the Tusk album before! Knew a few of the songs. I enjoyed a more toned down, atmospheric Fleetwood album

Listened to this while playing Paperback Adventures. I lost. I had not listened to this album before. I love the journey that it took me on. I heard their sound reflected in more contemporary artists I enjoy. Part reminded of Animals Collective vocals. One song brought to mind Neko Case...another Fleet Foxes. The album did meander a bit here and there, but overall I hugely enjoyed it.

This album could be about eight tracks shorter to address some of the songs that suck. That said, between Sara, Tusk, and Sisters of the Moon, the album is still anchored into importance. A very fine start with the first track and then we hit... 'The Ledger'. What the hell is that?! Sort of one of the most terrible yet most bouncy songs I've ever heard. Is this supposed to be fun? 'Think About Me' is a more traditional FM song, though somewhat uninspired guitar that sort of spills out in measures. 'Save Me a Place' enters and exits like badly wilted lettuce, never reaching its intention. Then boom, 'Sara'. Arguably one of the greatest example of FM's fine vocals. Spare musical accompaniment is pitch perfect and the scant brushes on the high hat. It makes you wish you knew a Sara-- or wish you knew THIS Sara. when you build your house, call me has to be one of the most romantic lines ever. How they ever talked themselves into 'What Makes You Think You're the One' on the heels of Sara is just beyond me. Why anyone else besides Stevie Nicks is allowed to sing on a FM is like ludicrous. WTF thought that was a good idea even?! A few lackluster tracks follow until we hit 'It's Not That Funny' which actually is not funny at all and is a real travesty for the ears. I was unable to determine which was less funny: the vocals or the keyboard. What an inconsistent album 'Sisters of the Moon' brings us back to life. Damn that slow steady intro with Stevie Nicks howling at the moon is launching me into the stratosphere. This is a jam and I've never even heard it before. Drums are fire. Guitar is fire. Stevie is hot as the sun. Damn I could not like this more. There are a number of tracks that follow that aren't standouts to me until we hit the title track. There are so few lyrics here, it's just so hard to believe how powerful it is. Always loved this track. Witchcraft.

The sophomore slump is a real thing. Athletes after a breakout rookie season. Sequels to hit movies. A second album after a groundbreaking debut. Following up on brilliance and genius is nearly impossible. Now, “Rumors” wasn’t Fleetwood Mac’s debut. In fact it was their 11th album. But it was a groundbreaking breakout like few others. After that kind of success, and the most unenviable tasking of following it, it’s no wonder Lindsey Buckingham wanted to go in other directions. But he didn’t choose the right directions. Kind of stunning to go from such a hit filled album to such a complete dud. There are a few good songs on “Tusk,” but because it was such a commercial dud they wound up having no lasting impact. Oh, and those good songs? They’re mostly Stevie Nicks. “Rumors” felt like more of a group effort. “Tusk” feels disjointed, with Buckingham, McVie, and Nicks each doing their own thing and not bothering trying to make it fit together. There was lots of band drama during the recording of “Rumors” right? Maybe it’s better that they not work too closely together. Though that strife did give us one of the greatest albums of all time.

Amazing that while I have never actively sought out listening to a Fleetwood Mac album, I knew almost every song on Rumors. Interesting that only one song on the follow-up, Tusk, even sounded vaguely familiar. More Stevie Nicks would have bumped this up, love her voice.

This is a disappointing follow up to Rumours. The band didn’t want to do Rumours 2, which I get. But there’s a reason it would have been a good idea to develop some of the left over ideas…because Rumours was amazing. Hit after smashing hit. What’s wrong with trying to recreate some of that while evolving their sound a bit? There were a couple moments here that muster up the magic. But by and large, I am bored by Tusk. And while wanting to reinvent themselves is understandable, embracing boring is not the way to do it. As with many, many double albums if the band had pared this down to a single album, the result would have been much stronger.

the similarities in the openings of some of these songs is surprising, but i love that beat. not my favorite of their albums, not melody focused enough for me and listening to the album in order doesn’t really add to my experience of the songs. love fleetwood mac tho

Really good stuff here. Always been a casual fan. And while I was aware of this album I was a little surprised I didn't really recognize any of the actual songs. So it was a great first listen.

That’s enough for me. In fact, that’s all for everyone. Not a single redeeming quality in my opinion.

Genuinely really pleasantly surprised. A more moody and dank collection than rumours brought to you by the same powerhouse voices.

This album has a lot more to it than I thought it would as a follow-up to Rumours. Definitely a much more experimental and sparser sounding album stretched over a way too long 79 minutes. Enjoyed this way more than I was expecting.

Really enjoyed this. I didn't recognise a lot of them as someone who would have listened to their greatest hits a lot but instantly liked the vast majority of the songs. Really nice variation of sounds and melodies.

It seems like a good album for drives, as background music while not paying too much attention to it. Stevie made some of the songs tolerable, and there was the occasional interesting music experiment going on, but overall a really hard listen.

I don't know Fleetwood Mac too well, just some of the well known hits. So this album was unfamiliar to me. On the whole it was "meh". None of the songs grabbed me immediately, and it's not a sound I'm especially drawn to.

Really uneven. I just don't get this lists obsession with the sprawling, double album sets that lean into bands worst tendencies.

This was bad. Lindsay Buckingham sounding like a yuppie pretending to be a hillbilly alternates with depressed Stevie and & Christine McVie tracks - which aren't bad, but don't sound like they're even in the same room as Lindsay's hoedowns. I get they were trying to distance themselves from Rumors, but this got so distant it ended up on Uranus.

some real gems and I love how almost every one has a different favorite on this expansive, if disjointed, album. I tended to prefer the buckingham songs (I’m realizing my affinity for post punk) but some beautiful songs from c. mcvie and stevie nicks too. I enjoyed so much of the album but did feel like I also listened to a lot of filler.

A couple good songs, but certainly not the best album by the group. Lindsey got a little experimental in quite a few tracks.

really sorry to the fans, but to my ears this is the most boring album so far. could not listen to it, had to skip most of the songs I cannot imagine having more boring sound, more flaccid energy and overall being more insipid than this I understand if you grew up with this music, it probably means something. but for an outsider as me, it sounds bleh
