Reviews (page 11 of 13)
I was deciding between 3 and 4, but now towards the end I am leaning more towards a 3. I could hear their talent from across the room but it just wasn’t interesting enough for me to feel it. still a great band and album.
Yeah, this is a long album. And not all that poppy (for a band coming off a pop-rock masterpiece). For sure there are some definite pop elements (mostly Christine McVie) but famously (infamously?) it was a conscious effort to not be "Rumours: The Sequel" - total respect for that because it would have been boring, not possible, etc. But so yes - this is a long and a weird one. Not shitty-weird-for-the-sake-of-it-but-ends-up-being-a-pile-of-ass like Velvet goddamn Underground but definitely something way more than a collection of pop songs - it's a diverse mix. While there are some Stevie songs like "Sara" which are the kind of "ah yeah that's some AM-gold Fleetwood Mac (and the rather dull Christine McVie cuts "Over and Over" and "Never Make Me Cry"), but also the title track "Tusk" which I recall getting considerable airplay as a kid. Tusk is sort of an unsettling song... which I like. And to double back so as not to pick on Christine McVie's boring cuts - "Brown Eyes" has a slinky creepy vibe to it that probably couldn't have been a hit yet is still accessible. Love it. Also this album *sounds* amazing - just sonically. Don't listen to it in through chintzy phone speaker - put on some headphones at least. I grew up kinda thinking I hated Fleetwood Mac - as a kid in the late 70s and 80s very into music, I preferred more mystery, more hard-hitting, more drama, and Fleetwood Mac's smooth hits were always on the radio. But this is kinda/sorta their White Album? If I critique it in a negative way, there honestly aren't a lot of amazing songs, but on the other hand there just aren't really any bad ones which is something. What a milquetoast review - ha. I'd sum it up by saying there is a little of everything from good to less good, but it is quite a talented piece of art and I'm glad to give it a revisit, just won't be an all-time favourite of mine. 7/10 3 stars
Yeah was a really cool album. I believe it's the follow up to Rumours (which I love) and I just recently heard an interview with mick Fleetwood about the writing of and recording of the album.
It was ok. It wasn't anything special in my opinion with there being a few songs that actually annoyed me. Overall the feel was chill and low-key, nice to hear at times but bc of some of the annoying songs I will likely stay away from this album. 5/10
little sleeper. No rumors that's for sure
Started off sounding generic, but there were some bops in here. The title track slaps
So far I’m finding this just okay. I don’t hate it, but it’s not really jumping at me, either. Honestly, it’s just a lot of the same, and by the middle of the album, it was starting to grate on me.
Honestly surprised me that there was a female voice on the album - genuinely thought it was a male led band. Then I do some extra digging and find out the Stevie Nicks is that voice?! Definitely a TIL. Overall a good alt album which I can see some songs making it onto a road trip playlist. But for the hype that everyone talks about Fleetwood Mac, IMHO, totally overrated. Best: Angel Worst: Honey Hi
If there were fractional stars, this would've been a 3.5.
Think About Me, Sara, That's All for Everyone, Sisters of the Moon (наверное, лучшая), Brown Eyes, I Know I'm Not Wrong, Tusk.
I'd rather Jack, than Fleetwood Mac
Fleetwood Mac are amazing but this album was a bit hit and miss for me. Musically it was great and loved a few songs. But not enough to get more than a like. Maybe because some of my favourite songs come later on in their career.
Some good tracks but nothing amazing as an album
like its fleetwood mac so ill give it 3 but only Tusk and Sara are over 3/5 stars...
i think imma like it 3 or 4? but rumors is the one with landslide.
Honestly was a bit disappointed with this. It's fine and some great songs but not as impressive as Rumours IMO. Thought I'd like it more but probably is a grower.
For whatever reason this one of my least listened to FM albums. I generally think that everything they do is genius, but this one is a little too chill for me. A few great tracks on it though.
Wasn’t bad, but Rumours is definitely the better album in my opinion.
Just a little weird but some good songs on here. Enjoyable listen that keeps true to their sound
I like some of the songs on this album but it's no Rumours. I own this one on vinyl!
Overall too long but there are some standout tracks: Storms, Beautiful Child, Tusk, Sara
- very different to what i listen to - first fleetwood mac album! - this is their 12th studio album - stevie nicks queen - likes: think about me, angel, sara, storms, not that funny, sisters of the moon, thats enough for me, brown eyes, never make me cry, i know im not wrong, honey hi, beautiful child, walk a thin line, tusk, never forget - fun cool not my vibe but its smth new 3/5
Nice but not super duper
Love the woman's voice, some good stuff on here, but didn't grab my attention that much
It was a good album. Not Fleetwood's best album.
Compared to Rumors, this album is very boring to me. It’s still great on the technical end (recording, mastering) but the content does not grab me. Other than the 1 or 2 singles cut from this album, the rest is mostly forgettable.
There's some really great songs on here. I'm not a huge FM fan but by all accounts this seems peak Fleetwood. Personally, the album's a little long and the track order is a tad messy. Still a good listen though.
3.5
So, so many different sounds on one album. There is a pretty clear influence of drugs on a lot of the more up-paced songs. They go fast, they feel groovy but they make very little sense. Track 2 feels like the essence of cocaine funneled into a song. I've enjoyed half the album thus far, but its all over the place. Only one or two songs feel like they were written with soul. Second half seems to be where the feelings come through. Overall, a very solid listening experience. Ups and downs, fun and serious. Very, very 70s.
The album was fine, but none of the tracks felt like something that I would want to play again individually. "Sara" was the only track that sounded familiar. I did not like several tracks ("What Makes You Think You're the One", "Not That Funny", "Tusk"). Even though there are some tracks where you can hear the quality of Stevie Nicks' voice ("Honey Hi", "Beautiful Child", "Walk a Thin Line"), her voice isn't strong enough to carry the weaker portions of this double album. This was a solid 3 - there was stuff I liked, but would not listen to the album as a whole again. Most of the tracks scored a 3 as well.
Disjointed, but true to the band's personality.
An album of 2 styles, only one of which I appear to like...
Does nothing for me. Possibly a failed experiment, in an attempt to avoid a Rumours2. Probably pleasant enough if you get to know the tracks better.
Alright soft rock. 7.1/10
cool some tracks, other tracks boring... maybe i just don't get it? idk
normal
Pretty acoustic guitar melodies with woman vocal. Soft rock with some folks.
More forgettable than I would have liked
Not their best album, but still enjoyed it. Could have used some more variety with the songs.
Inoffensive
Could have been 4 but just.. too long
3/5 !!! LISTEN AGAIN !!!! some interesting ones, and some forgettable ones.
Aight, probably needs more listening to to pick up subtleties
Pretty decent album, though most songs are a bit too sleepy for my tastes. Rumours wins over Tusk for me. That being said, the song "Tusk" is a jam!
Some good songs.
lots of good tunes! variety of sound.
Nowhere near as good as rumours, can't think of a standout track
A lot of slow songs. Too many, even. 6.
Stevie Nick's rocks
Didn't love it as much as their other album Rumours but still fun to listen to.
‘Twas pleasant.
It was good, just not for me.
Enjoyable
I really like some of the songs on Tusk, but as an album it's not my favorite FM album. It feels like there is a lot of filler here in between the hits. I do appreciate it for it's place in the Fleetwood Mac story.
It's not my favorite Fleetwood Mac, but I like it. It's a little experimental and varies a bit from Rumours, but it's relaxing.
On the edge of there to four, solid soft rock album, but I’m guessing and hoping rumors will be the incredible album it’s hyped up to be
very long
3 / 10. Es bleibt nichts hängen. Bester Track "Tusk"
I love Fleetwood Mac and there are some good songs here but man, this album is too damn long. 6/10
No Rumours.
I mean, it's not Rumours but it's still good.
I was expecting more from this album. It was a lot slower and more subtle than what I’ve heard from them, maybe I’m more of a Fleetwood Mac greatest hits kinda guy.
Better than I remember, and definitely a few gems in there, but compared to previous albums it's just hard to feel completely satisfied
A whole lot of very low key countryish rock that didn't really do a lot for me.
I find Fleetwood Mac boring/uninspiring without Stevie Nick's vocals. So, some big duds on this album for me. Also, way too long. Rumors this ain't. A few ones I liked like Sara but beyond that, I'd never listen to anything on this album.
Usual complaint of albums over an hour, was too long. Good album, not hugely coherent, missed a lot of what makes the Fleetwood Mac sound. Some really good individual songs though.
I have rumours belted into my head so this album just doesn't seem to hit the same heights. Some really nice sounds and harmonies but the songs never really hooked me in.
A nice album.
I know this is a hot take but I've always thought Fleetwood Mac are overrated. I particularly disliked every single one of the Buckingham tracks - What Makes You Think You're the One is especially off putting. Did he have a four year old drumming for him? The fact that the $1million production cost makes it the most expensive album ever made makes it even worse and his attempt to channel David Byrne have fallen very very short. I get the valiant attempt of trying not to make a Rumores 2.0 but fkn hell go easy. McVie's weren't that much better. On the flip side, all the Stevie Nicks tracks are excellent. Sara and Storm were really really good and saved this album from the dreaded Vokes 2/5 rating.
It feels like these bands that were a huge cultural impact are harder to get into but overall good album
Some brilliant songs, Sara in particular but a lot of over worked stuff by Buckingham and a double album was a bit self indulgent. Could have had a super album with half the tracks
It's good but not really my genre, too slow and chill form my tastes
Some good songs, but a lot of it sounded the same to me
some really good songs but overall a lot were too chill to be memorable
okish . old pop . a few songs were good
Fleetwood Mac just isn't for me. This is a good album, but I don't see myself coming back to listen to it in the future. I've been waiting for one of those iconic FM tracks to come on and make me take interest in this album, but I don't think it's coming. On the plus side, Rumors autoplayed right after this album, and I really like Rumors 3/5
They really came down hard from all the coke they did in Rumours. Very Relaxing album overall. Just a nice listen. Would like some more energy though.
I like their album Rumors much better. Their music is so precise, it was still a great listen.
Good album but none of the true FMac classics
Not there best but still solid
Long, needs a bit of a fat trim. Seems kind of unfocused. When it hits, I like it, but when it doesn't, grows stale very quickly. Favorite tracks: "Think About Me", "That's All for Everyone", "Tusk", "Angel"
Alright, but they have better
Listened
2.2/5 Nothing amazing, nothing horrible.
i dont get it. feels like rehashing some of the bigger hits from rumours. its also far too long. it didnt not justify its staying time. i wondered who this was for outside of the super fan. that doesnt usually bode well. it felt like a tepid release and there were only a few standouts. i like the horns in “tusk”, but i barely remember listening to the album. meh.
Some songs are fantastic, but other songs are unbearable to me. What a weird album.
This is basically a collection of mediocre soft rock songs. Starting by the worst part, what was the need to make this so damn long? It is an hour and a quarter long, and there is a good amount of songs that don't add anything, making this even more difficult to sit through. The cherry on top is that I don't even love the highlights. I do appreciate how smooth some of the material can sound, and how great the female singers sing. Nonetheless, the number of times I found anything to be interesting is incredibly low. "Tusk" has a great energy, "Brown Eyes" is incredibly soothing and "Sister of the Moon" has a nice mystical feeling. But these are just three of the twenty songs that stand out to me. The rest I just find to be very dull, either lacking energy on the more upbeat songs or not emotional enough for me. With that being said, it isn't as terrible as I might make it seem. I described the songs as uninteresting, but I don't think they are terrible. At worst, they are just a bit boring. Either way, I still believe that this experience is quite tame and unnecessary long.
Great album. Can you go wrong with Fleetwood Mac.
I'm aware of this album as it has a bit of notoriety to it, but I've never listened to it start-to-finish. In general, I find Fleetwood Mac a little dull. I prefer the songs where Lindsay Buckingham is belting out his vocals, but that generally doesn't happen too often. And this album is more of that overall dull thing. The songs frequently feel like they're overstaying their welcome and like they're much longer in duration than they are.
Wow, talk about a downgrade from the previous album. Half the songs are the same uninspired, mid-paced BS. There are about 5 notable songs, which isn’t enough to fill a single album, let alone a double. The production is amazing though, so it’s worth a listen just to hear those few gems.
old music STO
There were some interesting sounds and production choices, none of them were the words or vocals though.
Meandering and boring. 🥱
Not particularly offensive, just bloated and boring. Some nice tracks though.
Music to be an alcoholic from the deep south to.
Maybe I will return to it and change my vote. For now, it seemed not exceptional coming after a few good and inventive albums.
The ubiquitous FMac, or at least they were in the late 70s. You would hear this everywhere. Every older person owned this - it was prime dinner party music. I preferred this to Rumours at the time, which was the other FMac album that my dad would constantly play. Haven't heard this since I left home as I associated it with, well... boring adults and their boring dinner parties (sorry, mum and dad and your boring friends). What about now? Now I'm a boring adult? Dear lord, NO! Sounds like a compilation album of different artists as it flits from one style to another, none of which are "my" style. The bit where they try to sound like Devo is particularly embarrassing. Mate, you're a boring old hippy, stop pretending to be punk 😐 Just stick to the FM radio rock. You were good at that!
Start it off pretty strong. I’ve never heard any of the songs off the album throughout this hour long journey. The song is pretty much blended together, and I was starting to get bored of the sound.
It's alright. It's a very long album and cut have been cut in half. My favorite part about it is that a sample of Tusk is used at basketball games. Standout songs: Storms, Sisters of the Moon, Tusk.
I like the title song. Not too much else I want to hear again.
Just… boring.
woof. rumours this is not. this album is the same length as oliver and company, but at least that movie has some fuckin bops. this is just bleh. favorites: over & over, sara
A classic case of the double album just extending the pain. So shall we just politely say that this was pretty dull and move on.
Great
It’s fine. It’s no Rumours. But it’s fine.
It’s so mild and soft that it barely evokes any emotion. Except boredom. Ok, there’s a couple of interesting moments - but that is not enough for a double album. A regular album could probably get away with it and be called “ok, whatever”, but just a couple of moments in a freaking double album is bad.
When I was a younger punk (and therefore obliged to hate Fleetwood Mac), I had a friend who insisted "Fleetwood Mac are corny but Tusk is good." I took her word for it because I didn't care to listen. 15 years later, I'm listening and pretty underwhelmed. Fleetwood Mac are a "good band" insofar as they are all strong players and singers who have figured out how to mesh well. But the songwriting is bland, uninteresting, and uninspired (at least on this album). The musical compositions do nothing to me, they pass over me like a stray breeze.
Rumours is a good example of rampant cocaine abuse and relationship breakdowns making for a compelling listen. Tusk is a good example of how it usually comes completely apart soon after. It isn't bad, per se, and there are some great FM tracks on it, but it just sounds completely passionless to my ears.
I see the appeal for certain demographics, I am not it
Idk, 20 songs might’ve been overkill and it just felt so sporadic, but sometimes boring. A massive step down from Rumours. 2.5/5
Ei tääkään oikein.. Liian pitkä levy
Vähän humpaks jäi tääki.
Highlights: Sara, Storms, That's Enough for Me, Brown Eyes, Tusk
Groovy but i did not like it.
It was ok, very long and boring though. fav song is Brown Eyes
This is really boring and soft. Give me Rumours.
WAY too long.
I respect Fleetwood Mac and quite like much of their music. But this album's addition is unnecessary. The band does know that you don't have to have every song you wrote included on the final release, right? It just feels half baked and gratuitous.
Not my favorite. Felt a bit chaotic. A few nice moments, but I kept waiting for it to be over
Remember when Fleetwood Mac was an entirely different band? Then Peter Green left and they went downhill. I mean I don't remember that because I wasn't born yet but still. The funny thing to me is that this album was supposed to be a departure from Rumors and go in a completely different direction but it really just sounds like B-sides from Rumors and recordings that didn't make the final cut on that album. I would expect that a band snorting a literal mountain of cocaine while dropping acid like tic tacs during recording would come out with something a little more exciting and energetic than this. It's super bland. And it goes on forever. An hour and fifteen minutes and not one song that I saved or can really even remember. I might enjoy the odd Fleetwood Mac song here and there but none of them come from this album. 2/5
File under: Interesting as a historical document I know people love this album, but I couldn't find any of the things I like about Fleetwood Mac, here, and I didn't like the inklings of corny 80s stuff I was hearing.
A bit boring
I felt like this is as kinda boring? It had the frenetic early talking heads energy but couldn't match the wit
In my opinion this is one of the worst Fleetwood Mac albums, produced by the most popular iteration of Fleetwood Mac. This 20 song LP is a complete abandonment of their blues origins.
In which Lindsey Buckingham tries desperately to be one of the cool kids and the rest of the band does their regular dull-as-dishwater shtick. Gets a point for "Sara", the beautiful chord progression and exceptional melody of which elevate it above the bland numbers and/or strained weirdness here.
Not my favourite work by Fleetwood Mac, I wouldn’t listen to this again
Not their best. I love rumors but this left me kinda disappointed.
Disjointed album that doesn’t flow at all and is mixed terribly. I don’t think I actually like Fleetwood Mac a whole lot unless they are at the absolute top of their game. The increased emphasis on solo songs isn’t great for the band either. Christine McVie’s vocals on their own don’t do a whole lot for me, Buckingham only works for specific kinds of songs, and Stevie Nicks (who I otherwise love) sounds understandably checked out of the entire experience Albums after the band’s explosive success are always tricky too. This one desperately needed an editor or a critical eye to cut it down and instead it’s a dual album. You already want it to be over and then you find out the first album isn’t even done yet Lindsey Buckingham‘s really getting on my nerves. This is a 2 but the same way sometimes vibes make a 3 a 4, this has me looking real closely at the 1
This record seems to suffer unfavourable comparison to the band’s more celebrated work. Having said that, and having thought about it carefully, I’m giving it a low score largely because I’ve never really liked Fleetwood Mac.
I broke from protocol and took a look at some of the reviews of this record. I felt like I needed to understand how this record got here on this list. Initially considered a dud, this album went on to be considered a cult classic. I found out a little bit about the history of this record. This record came out two years after Rumours. It was an exceedingly expensive record to make costing $6 million in today’s dollars. And it debuted as a double LP with an initial cost of the equivalent of $64 today. I want you to pretend streaming doesn’t exist and you just drop $64 on an album expecting something as good as Rumours. Instead, you get 75 minutes of unbelievably boring tracks. I can imagine sitting there in the late 70s flipping over LPs waiting for this thing to get good. Yes, the last two tracks are great, but not only does it not live up to Rumours, it doesn’t live up to some of the 80s heaters that Fleetwood Mac dropped. Even by today’s standards. If I had not read the pitchfork review where they gave this album a 9.3, I probably would’ve decided from the people from the 70s. This thing sucks. It’s too long. Nothing for me has driven me more nuts than a mediocre album that just will not end. Even in the streaming era, I have no reason to return to any of the tracks on this record besides Tusk or Never Forget. I’ve gotta pay respects to the creators of this record and not give it a 1, but it’s close. To drop that much money on this album, and then ask people to pay that much for it, and have it be this bad is insulting to the people of 1979.
Did not finish. This album is approximately 1 hour too long for my liking. I would not consider doing a deep dive into this catalog as a result of this album. It’s not Kid Rock level terrible, but it is definitely not for me.
Too mellow
This sure was an album. It began and ended. There was music split across several tracks. There were vocals, drums, maybe even guitars. One of the albums ever made.
Not sure why this was on the list
Over and Over I like Thats All For Everyone is ok, some of the rest just feel like album filler. Maybe this is the benefit of hindsight!
Classic Fleetwood Mac sound familiar to Dreams era. Pleasant songs, light pop rock. Slightly boring and no stand out tracks. 5.5/10
The biggest thing going against this album is it’s not Rumors.
After hearing Rumors I expected to like this a lot more than I did. Not one song stood out to me as memorable. It isn't bad, it just isn't Rumors.
Not bad but borin. 2.4
Woof. Did not like it…..
I wonder if I'd even know Fleetwood Mac if not for Stevie Nicks
Really soft opener. Prety good but ould get boring if all the songs are like this. Wtf is this 2nd song. Dont tell me this is a bad white album kind of double disk. I was half asleep and this album did not helped. Painfully boring. One of the hardest listen I had in a while.
This album is too long. I like some songs and others are meh, but even some of the ones that I like reach a point where I am like okay wrap it up. Sonically the vocals and instrumentals sound good. Some songs just stand out more than others.
2.25 - I haven't listen to a lot of Fleetwood Mac, but I love Rumours. I'm disappointed that I didn't like this more.
This isn't a double album, this is three albums wearing a trench coat trying to get into masquerade as a coherent album. Every songwriter on this album creates completely different songs with different levels of skill. All the Stevie Nicks songs are pretty or really good, Christie McVie are in general good, and Lindsey Buckingham's are either fantastic (see the title-track) or not very good. Overall, this album lacks coherence in anyway, saved largely by the band's skills as instrumentalists and songwriters, though the latter is a lot lore dependent. In terms of an album, it's a mess. As a collection of songs it's alright, but I probably won't come back to it again. Highlights are Storms, Sisters of the Moon, and Tusk.
Did not need to be a double album.
After Rumours this was an album on release that I thought I should get. I even went to my local WH Smith’s or maybe Boots to get it. It was being played when I got there as it was one of the major releases that year. This was fortunate because had I not heard these few tracks I would have bought it on the strength of Rumours (remember no streaming try before you buy in those days) This would have been a big mistake as it sounded and still does like an half baked attempt in reproducing Rumours in haste. As a double album at twice the price I would have been even more disappointed if I had got it home. As I would have had the money burning a hole in my pocket I would have bought another album in its place but cannot remember which. Just checked other releases at the time and the only likely candidate would have been Regatta De Blanc which is a fine album head and shoulders above this one. Tusk does have its limited moments. Sara in particular but can’t help feeling I dodged a bullet and still don’t feel compelled to add it to my collection even when others in the know say it is a significant album. 2/5 7/3/26
The first few tracks of this are most middlest of the middle of the road soft rock, before it eventually evolves into something passably interesting. But aside from a few solid tracks in the middle, it never really gets anywhere and feels sprawling, incoherent and bland. There's a passable one-record album that could be culled from this double.
2.5
Not bad, definitely lots of talent on display, but quite a bit slower and more whining than some of their others. Probably won't be enjoying this album again
Ok
chaotic but also not that interesting
Overly long and quite incoherent
With the exception of the song “Tusk” (which is much better live!) this album is a real snoozefest. This is elevator music with the exception of Stevie Nick’s voice on the tracks when she sings. Fleetwood Mac has made some really good stuff, but this album isn’t that. Absolutely boring.
Imagine intentionally following up Rumors w this nonsense.
"Did I ever tell you about my father?" "No..." "Well, he thought he was Mick Fleetwood. We would have taken him to the hospital, but we needed a driving rhythm section!" That was a joke my father would repeat constantly growing up. It's terribly unfunny, and culturally lost on an 8 year old. That being said, this album is one continuous unremarkable sound for a little over an hour. The songs bleed one into another, and I just kept waiting for it to end. Look, it's not a bad sound, it's just... bland, and uninteresting. Left with no tracks, as nothing was worth saving.
its ok just not my vibe
Im pretty indifferent towards Fleetwood Mac. Just sounds pleasant and inoffensive. 5/10 Favourite track: Tusk
Bland, utterly bland. 5/10
Weakest album by Fleetwood Mac on this list. Outright boring and way too long.
This album is huge, and by that I mean long. Not sure I like the sound of it all together, and it all feels disconnected and all over the place. Like any 20 song album I always feel like you could cut it close to 10 and be better off, it's like multiple albums layered together. I don't know if I love it, and there's a huge diversity in the songs. I do think from time to time it clicks but it may be few and far between, and there's a lot of rough stuff in the between. That all being said, the times it clicks sounds like some of the best we've come to expect from Fleetwood Mac.
An album that does not sound like Rumours. By that date it was the most expensive album.
I usually like Fleetwood Mac. I just couldn’t get into this album. Kinda bland.
Not offensive but boring x
i don’t think it’s their best!!! but still a lot of fun songs on there, very quintessential fleetwood mac. and i wanna give them their flowers for sarah as it is one of my all time favourites
It was fine, I'm sure there's another album that was left off the list that was more deserving, Rumors is a no brainer best album for Fleetwood Mac
Not bad, but nothing great
Meh. Feels like demos that got them to their hits rather than hits themselves.
Tusk feels sort of monotone, and compared to other Fleetwood Mac albums doesn't quite do it for me.
Boring, some catchy hooks, too long, liked the opener, "that's all for everyone" sucks, a lot of 80's sounds, novelty of Nicks' lyrics has worn off. Sisters of the Moon is still pretty cool, though (I like the ending), I'm surprised I haven't heard any of these songs before, Angel is pretty good too (sounds like Rumours), Tusk sounds like a Talking Heads song (so inaccessible - I can't see why it has so many plays but I like it), "Come on baby now don't you be cold just remember that love is gold" is one of the worst things I've ever heard
Not for me personally
I like Fleetwood Mac but I don't like this album
I don't know why I had it in my head that this was a good album. It's not the worst but so many uninteresting songs, feels like there was no one there to tell them to trim it down. Very bloated album, and yet I can't remember any one song.
Just OK
Vorrei dare 2.5/5.
this did not resonate with me
Double album. Double boredom. I assume a lot of the money spent on this album went to booze and coke.
Quite forgettable.
There are a few songs here that I’ll keep with me - including Sara and the Ledge.
I happen to like several Fleetwood Mac songs, but none of them are from this album, and unfortunately, nothing from this album really grabbed me like those songs did. I expected more honestly.
I keep not liking it. Way too long. Some great songs washed down in the general mediocrity of the album. Boring and repetitive. Not my cup of tea.
Every song on here that I like was because it sounds like Rumors, and everything else is pointless. 2*
Good band but not my cup of tea. I got pretty bored listening to it.
Album was a bit all over the place, and a bit long. Loved the one-two punch of Sara/ What Makes You Think You're The One
Can’t say I was super into it, a few nice moments but not really my vibe overall. Also was a bit of a slog at well over an hour long. Stevie Nicks is cool, didn’t realize how little she actually features on the album though.
So boring...
Not as gripping as the two albums that preceded this one.
It's got that typical fleetwood mac feeling, but I feel like they have made better albums. While it's not bad, I don't feel like there are many exceptional songs on this one.
Guys, Rumours has done well, we’d better knock out another album. Yeah, we’ve got some songs left over, they’ll do. There’s a couple that are half decent. Mick: I can’t be arsed to drum though. Don’t worry Mick, a basic effort is all that’s needed, punters will buy anything…
forgettable
Not aboard the Fleetwood Mac train. Not bad. But not something I’d spend more time on.
Primal.
2.2
Nothing special... følte ikkje eg fant någe som fenga Beste sang: Beautifull Child
I get why people felt this was a disappointment on the whole (comparatively to Rumours).
Great music to talk over at a campfire setting. Can't really see another situation for this album.
Worse than Rumours and I guess I'll never listen to it again.
There's more to listen to than this
Bit dated, didn’t enjoy 2/10
Compared to the excellent Rumour, Tusk is just a mess. Overlong, self indulgent and with mostly very average songs. Like every double album I've heard so far, it would have benefitted massively from some judicious editing. If it was 40 minutes long, I think I'd give it a 3, but I'm dropping it down to a 2 because there's far too much of it.
I don't really like Fleetwood Mac
Some great songs but someone needed to step in and add some direction, and an editor. Sprawling, meandering, over indulgent.
Not my favorite of theirs.
Boring, lazy, tame, unmemorable. I gave up a bit over halfway. Too long
Boring
An exercise in blandness. Nothing happens until very nearly the end. Then nothing happens again.
Insipid soft rock/country hybrid if this led to punk then I get why they were angry, Peter Green era great
Not a FM fan, but may put it on while crushing some garage crispy bois. Really bland background music.
title track is great, the rest is fine but not classic. 2.5
Asked my family what they thought of it. Carly says "it's fine". My Mom said it has some good songs and Dad never heard of it. It's mid.
Honestly found it pretty boring, and was glad when it ended
Definitely not my favourite Fleetwood record. It’s hard to listen to their best work (Rumours) and then listen to something like this and be like “wow this is great!” It’s like eating the freshest grape straight from the vine where it’s crispy, juicy, and then eating a raisin being like “yeah they’re the same thing”. This album is the raisin.
mmm
A pale reflection of Rumours
Not having em
Too much Tusk
God this album sounded awful. Horrible mixing, horrible production, horrible quality, everything. Then i read on the wiki on how much tike they spent setting everything up and placing instruments in certain spots and recording equipment in certain angles and in different rooms and blah blah blah. The entire team was high on drugs and recorded everything in a soup can is the only logical explanation
Weirder than I expected from a Fleetwood Mac album. Felt like a lot of filler. Not as interesting as I had hoped.
As much as I love Fleetwood Mac, this album is tremendously bloated. It could be cut down to an EP and that would still feel a bit long. Title track is their best song though.
Ágætis lög inn á milli en flest fannst mér leiðinlegt
Heyrðu, þetta er bara ekkert spes. Kemur á óvart frá þessari útgáfu af Fleetwood Mac. Ekkert sem að grípur mann.
Not their best work. Good band though.
What the fuck is wrong with this album? Now don't get me wrong; I expected Fleetwood Mac to be over-glazed and mid, but I also expected consistently good musicianship. Every song on this album sounds like a different group of people were bought into a studio with expectedly mixed results. Tusk (the song) had some heavy Ewok energy, which is fun in an ironic way I guess. I have a feeling that wasn't what they were going for though. This album was experimental? What was the experiment, making bad music? But really, this is your goat? Inconsistent vibes and drama? That's crazy
I never listened to Fleetwood Mac so it's my first listen and I have a question why did classic rock musicians like double albums? I find first part is mid and uninteresting with exception with Sara and Storm and 10th song Sisters of the Moon I finally find tunes I like. I had hopes that second part of the album would be interesting but sadly it starts more or less the same. I liked some songs there but overall I think it is mid. Track that I found likeable. Sara Storms Sisters of the Moon Brown Eyes 2/5
This has some really boring tracks on it.
Many of its songs managed to resonate with me. It is a fairly long album, with tracks that, when listened to without sufficient attention, don’t immediately connect with the listener. However its lyrics and melodies work together and generate emotions that can gradually mature and connect pleasantly, once the album’s intent is understood. When listened to straight through, the album is not easily felt, it doesn’t maintain the same level of connectivity and concentration throughout. Its distance from Rumours (1977) clearly signaled a broad risk in its experimental approach, and some songs failed to captivate me because of that, such as the album’s title track. Still I highlight the sensitivity of its lyrics, which is what I will remember most about the album. Favorite song: Sisters of the Moon.
Interesting start to a double album. The subdued “over and over” transitions to a frenetic “the ledge” which is a hyper kinetic muffled buzz into “think about me” that feels like some safe listening, more true to previous Mac form. This album threw me. A goulash of the many songwriters present in Fleetwood, it’s disjointed. Lindsey Buckingham was on something. The sheer volume would ensure there’s something for everyone, I guess. “Tusk” was interesting. It was tough to get through it. A testament to a band in flux and they missed whatever hell mark they were aiming for.
I am hoping that there is another album that has better songs because otherwise I do not understand the hype about Fleetwood Mac
Good
Not as good as Rumours
Fleetwood Mac: Tusk: Honestly? Not my thing at all. Every song is really by the books and boring, or, kinda annoying. There are some alright songs on here, like sisters of the moon, but nothing really wowed me, and a lot of these album just kinda happened. Really not impressed. 5/10
Enjoyed Rumours but this thing fucking dragged.
Two or three good song but much longer than it needed to be
The Ledge is very catchy and I like it. Sara is good and it reminds me of the classic Fleetwood mac I know. The mix of songs feels a bit strange to me. Not as much Stevie Nick's as I would like and some songs and vocals were a touch boring. Looking at the album, it is written and sung by different people throughout and that is apparent.
This is such a departure from Rumors in a bad way. As a listener, you get the sense they were desperate to capture the magic but the in-fighting meant that the magic slipped away.
It's... fine. Nothing special to really recommend it. There is no reason for this to be on a list of "must listen" albums. It's fine. It's a solid folk-rock album. But there's nothing special about it. It came out in 1979. It has some good songs, but doesn't pioneer, experiment, fuse, or perfect anything. Everything it does well has already been done better by earlier albums.
Was never going to be rumours, I just wish it was more like that
Very mid.
It's white bread rock. No entertainment, just manufactured for Walmart. 3/10
Very hit and miss.
A double album and it feels like one. Seems to go on forever. After the heights of Rumours a real disappointment.
Not their best
Boring
Don’t say that you love me.
toothless
Edgeless, boring, cold Rock.
This album is long, far too long with little payoff. The pace of the majority of songs can only be described as glacial and they are so similar that when my Spotify cut out part way through I couldn't pick out the song I had just been listening to to restart. The title track is a gem and languishes at the end. Pity really as many may fall asleep before that. The other memorable songs aren't actually that good, they just have a bpm of over 40 so stick out. Also some of the quicker songs had flavours of country music, not for me. I know Fleetwood Mac are revered but as someone new to them, based on this I really don't see why. Maybe I need to hear Rumours. +1 for title track. 2/5
Cocaine makes you think every idea you have is a great idea. It's not.
Underwhelming from the band that created rumours
Know FM a bit, but had never actually listened to this particular album. Honestly, it sounds a bit uninspired and incomplete, even though it's a massive double album. There is something missing in these compositions...maybe a "soul"?
Not for me, have liked all the other fleetwood mac I have listened to but this was mostly just too slow
I don’t really get this band. I like Nicks’ voice but otherwise this seems like boomer nostalgia.
A few moments that are nice but overall it collapsed under its own (light)weight
honestly couldn’t get through the whole thing just not the biggest fan of fleetwood mac. lowkey insists upon itself favorite track: sara least favorite: the ledge
Doesn't compare to Rumours
Not great.
Disappointingly monotonous
Rumours is infinitely better. Forgettable
4/10
no good songs
Their twelfth album. What do you do after making Rumours, one of the best albums in history, you make a twenty song double album whilst on cocaine and rambling, musically, all over the place. FM had a free pass after Rumours and they experimented whilst being fucked up. The production is also very tinny. It's tough to follow up an all time great album but the drop off from Rumours to Tusk is a huge one.
I've tried getting into Fleetwood Mac in the past and I just can't. Back in my teens I explored a lot of highly rated music and even purchased a couple Fleetwood Mac albums (not this one). I listened to them multiple times and just couldn't get into it and later gave them away. And I felt the same way about this album. The only song I enjoyed was I Know I'm Not Wrong.
IDK man, something about Fleetwood Mac just doesn't connect for me the same way it seems to for others. Not to say this was a bad album, but I don't see what is so appealing about it. Sara is solid, but otherwise, I didn't find a lot worth reporting on here. Not a big fan of Stevie Nicks to begin with and 74 minutes felt like a chore. I'm a high 2 on this endeavor.
Pretty medicore, long album that could have just been a single album. Also not a fan of the song "Tusk" However the 70s Beach Boys inspired tune "That's all for Everyone" is really good 2.5/5
Love rumors but I couldn't make it through this one. Just kinda boring.
Guitars played like balalaikas make me sad
This isn't the Fleetwood Mac that I know and love. On most songs they don't sound into it at all. Some decent tunes but I'm rating it low because of what their previous albums were and what this is not.
Thoroughly unenjoyable. The album has no identity. Stevie isn't even featured until the fifth song. I wouldn't recommend this album to even fans of Fleetwood Mac.
It's ok, NOTHING LIKE RUMOURS!
Best Song: Tusk. Finally, a song that feels lively and energetic and unique. Worst Song: That's Enough For Me. A weirdly spastic little song that stands out egregiously in an otherwise fairly smooth album. Overall: It is a very long album, and one which lacks many of their biggest hits. I also got the feeling that the instrumentals often felt like they were fighting for attention with Stevie Nicks' vocals, whereas I feel like her vocals ought to be the focus of any Fleetwood Mac album.
Tusk is such a weird album because half of it sounds like a normal follow-up to their previous record Rumors, but then the other half is their attempt at sounding like The Clash. The parts individually I enjoy, but its like listening to a playlist on shuffle with the genre whiplash and I don't know if I like that in an album as its 2 different vibes. -mitona This is my first time listening through and yeah whiplash is exactly how it feels. There are some solid tracks on it though like Angel and The Ledge … but yeah it just doesn’t feel cohesive to me. -spacecrabs
It's a five hour album. Yeah right.
You know you're not wrong... that was you failed to make a great album ;-) It's not bad... and it's not good either. Sometimes some good vibes... but too rarely on this album to deserve 3 stars
I’ve only listened to Rumours, so I don’t know any of the 20 tracks on this album. Nothing really stands out or explains why it’s considered special. From Rumours, I only find a few rock elements in Sisters of the Moon. The rest bores me deeply. It feels like plain American pop music.
In the words of a song from this album, that's enough for me.
Langt, rodet og for det meste kedeligt
Hate the drums, everything else is good enough
Não gostei
Every song sounded so unenthusiastic and low effort until "Tusk", which kinda sucks because theres like 18 other tracks to go through before hitting gold. Its such a standout track that feels like it shouldn't be on the album at all. Album overall gets a 2, loved the song Tusk though.
Fleetwood Mac! I know these guys are popular, though I have next to no familiarity with their music. It's surprising to me that the band only has two top-thousand albums on the list - they appear to have been on a bit of a hot streak throughout the mid-70s and late 80s if Wikipedia is to be trusted. Anyways, the album. I'm not sure what the exact image of Fleetwood Mac is in my mind, though they've always struck me as more of a mellow, easy-listening band. I'm surprised by just how firmly rooted this album is in a "sharp" sound with the lively guitars and the importance of percussion throughout the album. These songs are more than competent on their own, but smash 'em together into a 20 song slogfest and we have a problem. There's a very high signal-to-noise ratio. A lot of the songs sound very similar to one another with minimal variety to break the pace. All that being said, there are some pleasing songs on this album. "The Ledge" is a good tune. The buzzing guitar works quite well with the melody of the song. "Sisters of the Moon" is another good cut. The singer's vocals are quite pleasing, the guitar performances are among the more ambitious on the album and the percussion does a good job of moving the song along. "Honey Hi" is up there as another favourite. I like the percussion on the song - whatever instrument it may be. The vocal performances at the end of the song are also very nice. The follow-up track, "Beautiful Child" is also a good song with the delicate guitar and nice piano. I've heard fans of Fleetwood Mac describe the band as a reminder of family, which is a connection that I can definitely see being made. Gonna look at the book as my uninformed ass needs some educating. The most expensive album to produce at the time of release. That's surprising, especially with how often the album delves into a lo-fi sound. An older, wiser record following "Rumours". Didn't match the commercial success or critical acclaim of Rumours, but succeeded by going in it's own direction. I'm inclined to believe that Fleetwood Mac deserve more albums on the list with how enduring their popularity has been, so I definitely can't knock this inclusion.
Not my thing really, plus I’ve heard better Fleetwood Mac. Kinda forgettable, plus only the songs with Stevie Nicks singing are decent.
This was dull. I can see why Saboo the Shaman vetoed it.
Was a weird album from a band I know. Didn’t enjoy the tone of feel
I don't really understand the hype around Fleetwood Mac. As a "Greatest Hits" band they rock, but listening to a whole album... meh. The fact that they have the second-highest rated album in this challenge is probably just a testimony to them appealing to a broad audience AKA Easy listening. Obviously, this doesn't apply to Pink Floyd, David Bowie or the Beatles, who also dominate the top 10 !!!!!!
Strange. More like a collection of the individuals solo efforts than one Fleetwood Mac album. If you want to work out if you prefer Buckingham, McVie or Nicks, this will help you decide.
