Light 6/10

Beautiful voice, just not into it

Probably won’t listen again

i'm a sucker for dusty springfield's voice! her biggest hit, "son of a preacher man," is on this album, and ugh is it a scene stealer. it's so easy to sing along, and dusty even veers a little into country. it's a damn good catchy song; no wonder it's her biggest song. but as for her other songs, they are soulful and delightful. her tender voice is perfect for "the windmills of your mind" in particular, especially with the song's slow beginning. like other dusty albums, these songs are all written by others. dusty was choosy about the songs she recorded, which was wise considering (my personal philosophy of) covering songs in a unique way. i like the variety of song writers chosen here--though i am pleased to see carole king on there four times!

This was a decent listen. There are some obvious classics here, and the in-between songs are all solid. The instrumentals are gorgeous. I loved the song "The Windmills of Your Mind," it kind of sounds like a James Bond theme.

Hard to go past hits from the bong err Song Of A Preacher Man as a standout track but my faves from this release would be Just A Little Lovin' and I Can't Make It Alone.

Not really my genre, but a nice calm woman-vocal rock

There’s one song I like. You know the one.

Nice late 60s sound and good songs, but a little predictable for a modern ear

Not awful, but I'm not into it. She's pretty good at singing. I wonder what it would be like to be good at singing. I think I would sing about stuff if I was good -- can you imagine the pleasure of being able to produce consistent harmony with your voice?

Quick one, what a great voice

A lot of albums on this list are 1969 - random observation. Must have been a good year for music. Thought it was fine. Enjoyed it over all. Mind wandered at points.

Great voice, don't like the material - it's just standard 1960s pop music.

Good but not going into my rotation

First half nice but Son Of A Preacher-man is the hit for a reason

Dig the Dusty. Honourable mention to the first two songs. She goes from “Just a Little Lovin” to “So Much Love”. Drastic change in love.

She’s so cool. I guess there was a lot of soul music coming out of Memphis at that time. Son of a Preacher man has been in a lot of stuff like a Dr. Pepper commercial and also on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. This isn’t going on my gym playlist but I would eat a grilled cheese and bowl of Campbell’s tomato while listening in the future.

Wasn't familiar with Dusty but I enjoyed this! Son of a Preacher Man is a classic and Don't Forget About Me was a banger

Some great highlights but overall average.

A couple of songs were recognizable. It was easy to listen to and relatively short. I do not see myself listening to the entire album again. I'll round up

Nice set of songs. An enjoyable listen.

Past romantic into maudlin. She’s got a great voice but this style is meant for singles, not a whole album at a time.

So Much Love: 3/5. Good lyrics, but not much else to say. Just A Little Lovin': 4/5. Best advocacy for orgies I've heard in a while. Son of A Preacher Man: 2/5. As an atheist, I have to say, this is sinful. I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore: 2/5. Slooooow. Don't Forget About Me: 2/5. Might forget about this song though. Breakfast in Bed: 3/5. Alright, now we're talking. Just One Smile: 4/5. Not bad! The Windmills Of Your Mind: 5/5. Splendid pace, motivating! In the Land of Make Believe: 1/5. Meh. No Easy Way Down: 1/5. Eh? Skipped. I Can't Make It Alone: 2/5. What a drop in quality.

For me this is a perfect example of a "for the time album." It's easy to look at this now compared to what was happening around 1969 and call it a classic album. And to its credit, there are some great things going on here. But we've had over 50 years for artists to innovate on this sound, and as a result it feels dated and even a bit a boring. But does being a product of the 60s make this album less of a classic? Who knows. Can we divorce pop culture from its era and give it an honest judgement half a century later? Again, who knows. Either way, it's hard for me to feel particularly excited about this.

WAS THE SON OF A PREACHER MAN

I was surprised to learn that Ms Springfield is an English woman. Who wouldn't like Son of Preacher man, regardless? The rest of the album is fine, a lot of pining over men and general horniness. I do hope there will be more albums by the POC who originated these musical styles.

Het album van Son of a Preacher Man.

Beautiful vocals and instrumentation. Wonderfully made.

Dusty is on as good form as ever on this album, one of those rare singers where there never seems to be any weak points in her performance. 5/5 for vocals. I don't know if its purely down to the lack of hits (with the exception of son of a preacher man of course) or something about the musical direction but something about it doesn't grab me as much as the spectacular "A girl called Dusty" I think it might be because this seems to have a bit more ambitious use of instrumentation which often stands out as a bit odd because its not always mixed subtlety. Still a great album and as with so many works its not its fault that it falls a bit short of a different work by the same artist but that's how it goes sometimes.

It was okay.

Not my cup of tea but still a good listen

It was fine. Don’t have anything to say about it.

Some really great singles and standout tracks mixed amidst a bunch of stuff I couldn't remember with a gun to my head.

favs: son of a preacher man, in the land of make believe, no easy way down “the windmills of your mind” reminds me of fiona apple—slow like honey or lda—honeymoon (album)

Heard it before?: Yes Enjoy it?: I don’t love it but it’s great! Exactly as charming as I remember Favourite song: Track 3 - Son Of A Preacher Man

My hunch is I am not alone in saying that were it not for her recording of "Son Of A Preacher Man" being featured in the film 'Pulp Fiction,' I would not know who this is. I don't recall hearing any of her other music, so I'm glad this album showed up in the rotation. Her voice is fantastic. The songs on this album sound familiar because they are very much in the style of what was popular at the time. In fact, I remember remarking in my head as I listened to this that the song styles bring Carole King to mind, and sure enough, a few tracks are written by Carole King.

never listened to dusty beyond the classics but this was a very pleasant surprise! I understand why she is so beloved. Best tracks: breakfast in bed, son of a preacher man, no easy way down

i was surprised i didn’t dislike it. a little boring but overall i liked it

I enjoyed it. Knew one song.

Beautiful voice - but music sounds rather dated

I never thought I knew of Dusty Springfield today, until I heard that she sang Son of a Preacher Man. That song is fantastic!! Dusty Springfield is a pop/soft rock/soul artist from the 60's-70's. By times she sounds similar to Nina Simone, The Supremes, or Janis Joplin. A lot of her songs dealt with themes of love, morning sex, lust, and gossip. It seems Dusty was awful thirsty!! Overall, a good listen today. Not something I'd gravitate to often, but a good listen nonetheless. Favourite songs: Son of a Preacher Man, So Much Love, Don't Forget About Me, I Don't Want To Hear It Anymore, Just A Little Lovin', Breakfast In Bed Least favourite songs: In The Land of Make Believe, The Windmills of Your Mind 3/5

Nice voice but i've heard better soul albums

A classic, but needs some diversity in tempo.

6/10. Pretty pleasant, got a bit samey, but Windmills of Your Mind was kinda cool

It was alright. 6/10

folk with some big building and swelling symphonics. breezy pop. r n b rip offs. its a nice mix of feelings and flavors. she has a beautiful voice with some light smoke, rasp. id tell someone to check it out if they liked taylor swift.

Incredible voice with a couple of hits guaranteed to get stuck in your head. I grew up with soul in the house and this is definitely more up my street than some of her contemporaries. Dont Forget About Me was my highlight. Probably wouldnt return to it but glad I listened to it and would definitely recommend to others into this genre

She has a really good voice, quite enjoyed though it's not really my thing. This version of windmills of your mind would have made a good bond theme.

Hadn't heard anything from Dusty except the popular song or two. The album has a chilled out relaxed sound to it which I liked. Highlights were "Son of a Preacher Man" and "Don't Forget About Me".

Actually listened to this album already this year.... She's got a very Irish real name! Windmills of your mind is the most interesting song. Quite like breakfast in bed too. Nothing else really is that rememberable. Not a son of a peacher fan. I don't dislike this so it's getting a 3

Classic goldies - entire album is a bit too much though

Rätt tråkigt men räddas av Son Of A Preacher Man.

Pretty classic 1969, but not my favorite.

It's ok, not really for me though. Nice voice but only Son of a preacher man was thoroughly enjoyable.

Fun album, folksy but also felt like pop. I love Son of a Preacherman so that was great to hear as well. Hopefully we get some more like this to finish out the week.

Not really my taste, but still enjoyable. “Son of a Preacher Man” was the only song I recognized. I was surprised to learn it’s not a Motown song.

Dobar album, neću se vraćat na njega.

Not quite as into this as A Girl Called Dusty but still pretty solid. Edges a bit closer to rock and loses some of that upbeat pop fun.

A little too soft? For me. Really nice music though

Really lovely. Dusty's sweet, soulful voice is a pleasure to hear. The languid, rich arrangements are a whole mood, but they also tend to drag down the energy of the whole album. Fave Songs: Son of a Preacher Man, No Easy Way Down, The Windmills of Your Mind, I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore, So Much Love

Just a little lovin'- fairly basic song So much love - as above Son of a preacher man- v catchy👍 I don't wanna hear it anymore - nice little narrative song Don't forget about me- quite simple, but effective and snappy. Ends a bit abruptly👍 Breakfast in bed- like the vocal on this track particularly Just one smile- babes you gotta more on The windmills of your mind- I love the vibe and build of this song. Amazing👍 In the land of make believe- feel like this is in the same vein as many other tracks here No easy way down - I like lyrics and sentiment on this song👍 I can't make it alone- meh I don't vibe with this Vocals consistently great and v expressive. Think some songs can get a bit samey but also some great songs on here 3/5

Some really iconic songs, I enjoyed this.

solid album, one really good song!

An enjoyable 3

Very easy to listen to. Beautifully composed songs - Good lyrics. Good feel (Has an air of soul, 60s and 70s love, etc)

Dusty Springfield has a great voice and 'Son of a Preacher Man' is a classic. The 1960s production is sometimes over the top and I found the latter part of the album to be less interesting.

Sounds like the kinda album Kanye would sample the shit out of. Pretty good stuff. Dusty can sing. Bonus points for being included on a Tarantino soundtrack. Stand out tracks: Son of a Preacher Man.

Just meh.

Son of a Preacher Man slaps. The rest is good, but not really my taste.

I give it 4 Its a very good album

Sappy, cinematic, soulful. Notable: The Windmills of Your Mind, Son of a Preacher Man, Breakfast in Bed Windmills could be great in a TVC.

I've seen this album on people's lists getting a 1 so I was expecting this to be not that good. But it is good, so I'm really confused about that. She's good and soulful and interesting to listen to. Son of a preacher man.

The original of Breakfast in Bed was worth the listening by itself. Most other songs are clearly well sung and arranged, but couldn’t hold my attention for long.

Love her voice but music too melodramatic for me.

hit and miss, but the hits were fun!

Dusty in Memphis is the fifth album by English singer Dusty Springfield. The album sold poorly initially, but eventually grew to be recognized as one of her best works and an important album by a woman during the rock era. It's a pop album tinged with R&B and soul music, that began to be known as the "Memphis sound". The album was lively and fun, but the music didn't wow me like other albums have. A good album, just not for me.

Not to bad, bit soft for my taste. But did remind me of road trips in the past.

p169. 1969. 3 stars. One of the great white female voices on top form, but let down by suspect material and production. When it works (Just a Little Lovin', Son Of A Preacher Man, I Don't Want To Hear It, Breakfast In Bed, Just One Smile, I Can't Make It Alone), it's fabulous. Unfortunately the rest of the songs are filler, some of the production hasn't aged well - the strings quickly veer into middle of the road syrup - and the cover of The Windmills Of Your Mind is pure cheese.

Some good songs here, she has a great voice.

This was actually quite good.

Yeah, nah. Maybe? Preacher Man is a stone cold classic. The rest? Meh.

I had no idea this would be classified as a rock album, but it deffinitely is. Just the one massive hit off this record but a lot of good songs are there to hear.

An enjoyable album. Just one Smile and I Don't Want to Hear it Anymore prove to me that I like Randy Newman just fine when he's writing for other people.

My introduction was the Pulp Fiction soundtrack back in the day, maybe I heard Dusty before...but no recollection of it and Son of a Preacher Man is just ingrained in me now, but I will always prefer the muppets cover of The Windmills of Your Mind

It's good, but I've never been one for the Dusty was utterly brilliant argument. Still, I'd rather listen to this than any of the wannabes. (Yes Adele, I'm including you.)

I've j

Might have rated this higher had we not had another Dusty album recently.

Very soulful. Evokes the 60s free love spirit effortlessly

A bit boomery but enjoyable

Son of the Preacher man song

Son of a Preacher Man is great and it's a real standout on this album. The rest is fine but not worth a re-listen.

"Son of a Preacher Man" might be the extent of my exposure to Dusty Springfield. That's a good track in general, but the rest of Dusty in Memphis didn't connect with me. This type of music isn't my style. The arrangement and vocals sound OLD, and old in a way that disconnects - in a way that says "This is not of your time or your interest". I made it through the album, and I guess it was okay. Once was enough. I'm not curious to hear more from the artist either.

Bien. American PopR&Bblue-eyed soul.

Classic 60’s album, great voice deserves to be on the list.

You gotta sift through some of the crap boring bits here, but hidden inside are some really, really good songs (particularly Windmills of Your Mind, that song is incredible).

Nice, easy listening

Good album. Thenks to this list I listened

Toujours une aussi belle voix. Son Of A Preacher Man est vraiment sublime.

Not bad, but not my style

Easy, enjoyable. Interesting that she's British singing very southern r n b. Kind of like CCR playing swamp rock from San Fran.

I liked this and there's a few great songs but by the end of the 2nd listen I knew it wouldn't stick with me.

Son Of A Preacher Man and The Windmills Of Your Mind were great. Rest was fine.

Day 9: Amazing voice, but most of the album felt very plain and moody, while I wasn't able to pay close attention to all the lyrics, (I listen to these daily albums while at work) I'm sure that the vocals are the main selling point. Regardless this wasn't a bad album, it was very easy to listen to and had a few really good songs, but I felt like much more could be done. Best Track: The Windmills Of Your Mind

Nice voice. Songs are not much except of course Sonof a Preacher Man. Bumps it to a 3.

Son of a Preacher Man is an excellent song. Who doesn't love it. The rest of the album... meh. None of that same energy. She's a great vocalist but this album didn't really hook me. 3 stars just because of SOAPM.

Perfectly fine, great single in Son Of A Preacher Man, not really amazing for me beyond that.

Apparently more accurately but less snappily called Dusty in New York Redoing Vocals She Did in Memphis. It's good enough, obviously well made (I possibly prefer the mono singles mixes on the Mercury reissue), she's great irrespective of where she actually recorded it, and I just don't love it as much as most other people seem to do. Son of a Preacher Man is the obvious standout by virtue of not being or sounding like the professionally written pop songs most of the album was otherwise made of. I can actually kind of understand why it didn't do great business in 1969, though it did have one major repercussion when, during production, Dusty found out her old bass player was in a new band, and suggested to the suits at Atlantic Records that they might want to sign them up. And so Dusty Springfield helped launch the career of a little mob called Led Zeppelin, of whom you may have heard...

It's beautiful and kind of cute, but generally not my vibe. I get why she is popular.

Moody soul-influenced 60s pop. A bit of a mixed bag. Son of a Precherman and The Windmills of Your Mind are quite good. The other songs to varying degrees less so. 2.5/5

What a great voice. Well produced album containing the classic "Son of a Preacher Man" along with a couple of other well known tracks. The rest is pleasant-enough but not particularly memorable.

amazing talent, splendid songs, left me cold

Quite gentle and relaxing, Son of a Preacher Man is a classic!

Sounds okay. 3 stars from me. Happened to know only one song

Classic country. Not particularly spine-tingling, more gentle.

Son Of A Preacher Man is the highlight here. I remember listening to this album once and  I was probably expecting the rest of the album to be as good, but unfortunately the rest of the songs didn't do anything for me.  Listening to it again tonight and it starts revealing some of the beauty that makes people love it so much. The lush orchestration, the spot on arrangements, and obviously her voice. The issue I have with this record is that it sounds to me as lacking personality and character: I hear a really nice end of the 60s set of songs but nothing more. And I wish I could hear much more than that, as she seems to be a singer with a strong personality. Maybe next time!

This was good, but not great. Dusty's voice is beautiful, that's definitely true, but I felt like it was hard to fully get into this album. Maybe I need to give it a couple more listens.

Didn't know what to expect. Coherent album well produced with excellent vocals. Cover art 1/5. Took them about 30 mins to do

Not exactly what I was expecting but it was good and relaxing. One recognize song

I didn't like much...

Good tunes and a nice vibe. Repetitive near the end and not my overall favorite genre, but son of a Preacher Man is a Jammm!

Nice background music. Not for me.

Not bad at all

Starts strong, falls off toward the end.

Dusty has a great voice but nothing else really stood out to me

An enjoyable stroll through 60s pop and soul. Favorites: "Just a Little Lovin'", Son of a Preacher Man", "The Windmills of Your Mind"

Sounds like the 60's at its best.

Not my cup of tea

2nd Listen. Dated, but still a very nice album. 3/5

This is enjoyable despite not being the kind of thing I’d listen to. It’s a three star from me but it’s clearly a lot better album than that!

Not bad, look into 1960s music but not really my type of music

Overall, this album sounded decent, but the music felt a little too bland for my taste.

Some of these were pretty good. A little light for a morning commute

Songs: Don't Forget About Me, Breakfast in Bed, Son of a Preacher Man

Ok some good ones

Pretty average

I have read about this album for years, like it’s some big thing, a white girl from England comes to Memphis and sings gritty R&B. Big whoop. It’s overrated and undercooked. 3.5, because the musicians are always great, Dusty is a fine enough singer, but it isn’t the classic they make it out to be.

Nice voice but would have liked the songs to be a bit more uptempo, like this they were somewhat a bit dull and monotonous

A little too mellow for me but I recognize that she has an amazing voice and carries these songs very well. A bit too much sameness and other than Son of a Preacher Man, not sure anything i'd listen to much.

I would have given this a lower score after only 2 listens, once in the car where my co-judge said it was “stinky” and once while making dinner where it got drowned out. The third time however, things seemed to come together. We can rely on Dusty for her breathy delivery. Her voice isn't fantastic but combined with her look, she just needed a few great songs to become a star. So in the end, it comes down to songwriting. Preacher Man is a classic and some of the others grow on you over time.

Nice sixties crooning with some good arrangements and vocals. This harkens back to an era when the lyrics were nice, the singing was nice and everyone looked nice. Overall a nice album.

It's blue-eyed soul, which is not going to get a rise out of me. Inoffensive - except that the album says Memphis, and she recorded her vocals in New York. smh. Best track: Son of a Preacher Man

Avauskappale Just A Little Lovin' onkin levyn ehdoton helmi. Tykkäsin kovasti Dustyn äänestä, jota kuitenkin käytetään tyylikkäästi ilman suurempia kikkailuja tai koreiluja. Sinänsä huonoja kappaleita levyltä ei löydy, mutta suuri osa biiseistä on vaan samaa harmaata massaa. Peruskolmonen.

Not really my thing, but an easy listen.

Never quite does it for me. She has a great voice and it is very lush, but maybe all a little too samey as it goes on.

A great career as a librarian was lost here! More seriously, she has a nice and characteristic voice, but the songs are outdated and overly sentimental. Not my taste.

A bit long-winded and boring for my taste, but a good album none the less.

Windmills en no easy way down zijn voor mij hoogtepunten

Soulful

Has a few good songs on it and I love oldies.

Good walking songs

Classic album, classic voice. Not my go to but I see the appeal. I wouldn't mind listening if someone else chose this album.

Son of a preacher man

One to revisit.

Okay, not many ouststanding songs.

songs would be made perfect if sung by an actual soul singer but dusty brings a little different vibe i guess but part of me wonders why i should listen this and not a black singer she was signed to the same label as Aretha so it makes sense

Old dusty tits, you son of a bitch.

This was very/not very good/ok/bad

Yeah, it was fine, wasn't it? I had a lovely relaxing first hour at work feeling soothed by her tones. Would you SHACK?

I dig Dusty!

Dusty is a classic

Ni fu ni fa

I listened to son of a preacher man 3 times. At first the others didn't really hit me, but it played through a second time and I felt it much more, thought there were some interesting themes, like the one about the thin walls.

"'Cause the talk just never ends And the heartache soon begins The talk is so loud And the walls are much too thin" (I don't want to hear it anymore) "You've been cryin' Your face is a mess Come in baby You can dry the tears on my dress" (Breakfast in bed) ¡Primer disco íntegro de una señora desde que empecé esta cosa! !Milagro divino!

Pure velvet vocals make me go mmmmmmmmmmm. Instrumentation not all that interesting - seems like every track just fades out, often much too early and quite suddenly, which can lead to a feeling unfulfillment. Overall a very pleasant listen, and could have been great, but with the songs cut off in their prime it almost feels like a sampler for the real album. A shame. +Faves:-Son of a Preacher Man-Don't Forgret About Me

Muy de su época. Buena voz.

Dont mind a bit of dusty, 3.5

Pretty good. Love son of a preacher man. Was a little bored over all

long and overstated but good overall

Son of a Preacherman is cool I guess... I like her voice and the soulful white British girl angle but it kind of dragged. Completely inoffensive and good BG music. Strong ending.

Beautiful voice, not always my favorite music

one good single

Not bad

Nice and mellow

Not bad. Not my taste. Hits from the bong intro is cool tho. Dont forget about me was also kinda cool 3 stars

Not really my style. Not bad for playing on the stereo while other stuff is going on but not something I'll go back to regularly.

I didn’t know she sang “son of a preacher man’. Mellow album. Soulful and smooth. I bet Joss Stone got her inspiration from Dusty.

Nothing exciting

Not bad

Good album

Some of the songs seem to blend together, but the overall listening experience is nice. Played it a few times over the last couple days.

Very nice

Sounds good but it's not for me

Solid engelsk soul. Afslappet, old-school, føler, gode vibes.

"Blue-eyed soul" classic. She doesn't quite have the pipes for some of the songs, but laid the groundwork for later artists (Amy Winehouse, etc)

It's fine. Dusty has a nice voice but at certain points this record just turns into so much wallpaper for me. Favorite tracks: "I Don't Want to Hear It Anymore", "No Easy Way Down"

no disrespect to ms springfield but this sounds like music and not much more

“son of a preacher man” & “the windmills of your mind” are soooo good.

Some good songs, didn't get a chance to listen to all of it.

boring soft country, not even as background

it is smooth, bit whiney, nothing really caught my attention besides the famous Son of a Preacher Man

TIL Rusty Springfield is a woman

Great production, this album kinda heats up more as you listen. Son of a preacher man is a banger so exciting and it has great layers and call backs. I don’t want to hear it anymore also has fantastic lush vocal layering. Probably Phil Spector. I find myself wanting to go higher though, it kinda feels like it edges me overall just wanted more.

Wanted to skip the songs multiple times. No hate to Dusty Springfield though. The big band had some awesome moments that I enjoyed and got me through the album.

Has some appeal, but too dated. Probably not one of my top 1001...

so much love

the windmills of your mind

I feel like she would be an aunt who encourages you to try things your mom doesn't let you try, in a bad way. Also, I do not trust white singers who sound black without any acknowledgement or collaboration from actual black artists!

Haar stem in combinatie met band zorgt bij mij voor instant chill-modus. Hoewel het soms net iets te episch als chille achtergrond muziek. Geen idee hoe deze plaat tekstueel in elkaar zit, ik vraag het mij ook niet af. Lekker in de ochtend met een kopje koffie en de krant of ‘s avonds met whisky en een boek. Daarnaast ga ik er niet heel lekker op als dezelfde nummers op 1 plaat staan Oeh Son of a Preacherman! Kennen jullie de cover van Thijs Boontjes;

Was gonna hate on it a bit, but really couldn't. Son of a Preachers man is an all timer thanks to Tarantino. She's good. Songs are fine.

Sometimes the strings on this really irk me and sometimes they are nice! Why must there be nuance in the world? Highlights: "Son of a Preacher Man", "The Windmills of Your Mind", "I Can't Make it Alone"

Listened cleaning the apartment, doors open on a sunny day. Suited that vibe. Otherwise, too lovey-dovey for me and not enough oomph.

some classics. not my jam.

Rating:★★ ZZZ. Couple good songs. album must’ve caught me on a bad day, but I tried to listen to it two different days so maybe it’s just kinda boring.

Sultry and bubble-gummy. Some enjoyable stuff, but didn't scratch the itch for me. Son of a Preacher man is obviously a banger. The Windmills of Your Mind cover is real nice. Didn't latch onto much else really, but is certainly good-listenin' music.

no me gusto mucho

she's singing goodly

Nice voice, music felt a little uninspired

Easy listening, obviously classic, but just kind of blended all together in the background.

Sounds like I’ve heard a couple of these songs in the background of movies.

eh alright 5.7/10

3/10 A fun listen will probably not revisit.

"Son of a preacher.." is great. The rest is buried under a kitsch orchestra.

Outside my usual wheelhouse, but def a fun listen

↑: Son Of A Preacher Man, Don’t Forget About Me, The Windmills Of Your Mind ↓: I Don’t Want To Hear It Anymore

I do enjoy Son of a Preacher Man, but the rest of the album was meh.

Not my style, but good to associate to an iconic song. I feel like this band composition/style fell to the wayside.

164/1001 First listen. Son of a preacher man and some other stuff. Not into it. 3/10

Again, it's alright I guess? Not my kind of music

Ouwe vrouwen muziek, niet helemaal mijn stijl. Soms beetje oudbollig romantisch

Not for me

She’s a good singer, but this is music to wash dishes by. Dull and dated.

13/03/2026 Sorry Dusty, you were just a bit too boring for me. Spotify listeners: 5.8 million

A única que se “destacou” foi ai I Don’t Want to Hear It Anymore…

An okay album; something best to listen in the morning with its 60s soul vocals. Nothing special stood out to make me very interested about the album, but a soothing album to listen once in a while.

Easy listening? Feels very dated although she does have a distinctive voice. She's best when she puts some soul into it, like in "No Easy Way Down" and "Son of a Preacher Man". The rest of the album is pretty forgettable. I'm giving it two stars because everything is better than Brian Wilson. :)

Favorite songs: So Much Love, Son of a Preacher Man, No Easy Way Down Shmaltzy. Very Shmaltzy.

I am begging for anything to pop up from the past 20 years. Her voice is good. Overall, it's just boring.

I do love "son of a preacher man"

TIL that Dusty Springfield sang Son of a Preacher Man not Janis Joplin. The vocals are far too buried in the mix, and outside of the above mentioned song, the rest of the album fell kind of flat for me.

Yeah I’m not the target audience for this.

As a vocalist she is amazing, and an album, ehh

Was okay, some good songs but I’m not found of her voice

Cold, unbuttered soul.

Amazing voice, and SoaPreacher Man is one of my favorite songs of all time. I really liked "Don't Forget About Me." Other than that, aside from liking the vibe, I never need to hear this again. Sorry Dusty

favs: i don’t want to hear it anymore the windmills of your mind i can’t make it alone rating 2/5

Nice sounding album, but it falls a little flat for me. Seems to be one dimensional. Not my thing, I can appreciate the talent tho.

Beautiful voice, but only really one song I like. Feels way too much like a product of its era--way too many strings.

Great vocal range

Charming and Quaint, but in quite a boring and unexciting way. Son of a Preacher Man is always great though.

Not bad. Extra Points for Sweet Inspirations singing back up vocals. Beautiful Voice ,.

Pleasant enough but while it may have been significant in its time, looking back 56 years, for me it hasn’t aged that well. There are a couple of well known tracks - Son of a Preacher Man and The Windmills of Your Mind but the rest seem like fillers.

Some fun tracks but a lot that just felt a tad corny

Not bad, just not really for me

"Dusty in Memphis" by Dusty Springfield is an album where the first thing that really stands out is her voice. She is a fantastic singer, no doubt about it, and vocally this record is very strong. "Son of a Preacher Man" is an absolute banger and easily the highlight of the album for me. Unfortunately, outside of that song, the rest of the record felt pretty bland. It is pleasant enough, but not much else really grabbed me or made me want to pay closer attention.

Not my favorite. Very hetero romance. Cool 60s vibe that would be nice to play in the background occasionally, but not something I would listen to. “The Windmills of Your Mind” was my favorite in the album.

A cutesy lil album with beautiful vocals. Son of a preacher man is a classic tune. I can appreciate the music of the 60s and it’s whole classic feel.

The album challenge first introduced me to Dusty on one of my early albums, I recognized a couple songs as well as on this one…I’m starting to think that they both had some of the same tracks . The album was ok

didnt catch my attention, but wasnt bad as background music

Good ballads but not much else.

Didn’t hate, but didn’t love. Honestly not that memorable for me. 2/5.

it’s ok

A repeating theme throughout the entire project - picking full albums from legacy artists who are well known for specific songs only for most of the album to fall flat. As I've posted on other reviews, there's a reason why good songs hang around and the filler disappears. Yay: Son of a Preacher Man, Windmills of your Mind Nay: Pretty much everything else...

Just okay for me. Hard to live up to someone like Aretha, whose album we listened to recently.

This feels like a toned down Dolly Parton. All the music is good, but nothing is blowing me away, and overall it feels much weaker than other albums we've had. Maybe it's just becasue I'm riding the wave from yesterday though. Don't Forget About Me is good, a solid 8, this album does improve over time...this review could change with a second or third listen. The issue is not that this is a bad album, but I can see a valid arguement it's not up to par with other albums on this list, or tht we've previously reviewed.

Album was pretty good, liked the vocals and instrumentation. Very soulful and lively but here’s the thing, this felt like Aretha Franklin but not as good in my opinion. I didn’t think this album was anything really special but it was nice.

Not for me

Has Son of a Preacher Man. Already a good start. Dusty has a great voice, but the songs are pretty generic. Not too super interesting.

We all know Son of a Preacher Man is a tune and fully expected that to be the peak song on this album. Didn't expect the rest of the album to drop off so much though.....

The album was not really my favorite. The lyrics were kind of repetitive, it wasn’t a horrible listen, I just didn’t enjoy it.

Didn’t massively connect with it though I can appreciate it is nice. Absolutely adored the windmills of your mind.

Disco mediano.

Some good songs, lots of background advert music

Funny, 1001 has the GUTS to give us an album by a woman!! 2 stars

Almost a 3

Couple of OK songs. Old and cheesy.

Not to be rude or mean but American music in this era is a like a stagnant time like how music is in this era 2019-2025. Not like it's bad, it's just that it's shallow.

point9.

Other than Dusty's singing voice, this album is extraordinarily boring. More boring than Googling Buffalo Springfield connections with Dusty Springfield. Favorite Track: "Just A Little Lovin'".

Not for me. I would listen it again

The album started of with a song that I think didn't really fit the vibe of the other songs. I love love love Son of a Preacher Man, but the rest of the songs felt okay at best.

4/10, no notes.
