Reviews (page 11 of 13)

Started off with a bang and had a few decent tracks throughout. Nothing after the first two tracks that really reached the heights they set but still mostly good. Three and a half. Fave track: Zero

This was all new to me and I quite enjoyed it, without anything particularly sticking in my head. I probably need to listen to it again a couple of times - there's a few long drives coming up and this will probably fit well on one of those. For now, a solid 3, but one with hope.

Still not my favourite record but listening to it again showed me that it has more to offer than I first thought.

Mixed bag of nice songs, cannot decide whether the lyrics are interesting or not. Might need another listen!

Huh didn’t know off with your head was these guys. Pretty good all around yet nothing amazing

I only knew of one song of theirs, Maps, which I like. This album was a tad pop and overproduced for my taste. The vocals have kind of a generic Gwen Stefani type voice. I liked the song "Dull Life."

Started off alright, a bit new-new-waveish, bit of LCD in there. Not bad but didn't really blow me away. I was a bit fatigued by the end though, got excited when I thought what was the obvious last track was coming to a close but then another one appeared. Probably scrapes 3*

Good beat. Feels like a fun album.

I came into this listen pretty familiar with some earlier stuff by Yeah Yeah Yeahs which maybe coloured my experience a bit. I found this record to be fine and enjoyable but not super inspiring. Their earlier work has more urgency to it - like they couldn't help but make that crazy music and it was just busting out of them all the time. This record on the other hand made me feel a bit like they made a record because they were supposed to make one haha. The result is still pretty great though.

Y2K core

The strong songs are strong, the rest are meh. Don’t need to rush back anytime soon.

B- Zero - 3 Heads Will Roll - 3 Soft Shock - 3 Skeletons - 3 Dull Life - 4 Shame and Fortune - 3 Runaway - 5 Dragon Queen - 2 Hysteric - 3 Little Shadow - 4 Faces - 3 Clap Song - 3 This was actually pretty good. Kind of felt like a mix between Cat Power and Santigold.

Known the name for ages, but never listened. They were OK, Dragon Queen was pretty good.

i felt very comfortable listening to it! maybe id listen again! faces and soft shock are my highlights!

Easy listening, nothing special.

nice chill album. I love her voice.

Good, not great.

I liked her first one but this one not so much.

Too fast pop for me.

I like yeah yeah yeahs this album went on a bit though. Couple of good songs and the rest was a underwhelming.

It wasn’t too bad, I did enjoy a few songs. Probably won’t listen again.

really nostalgic, but I prefer fever to tell 3,5/5

Really good album. Probably is a low 4 but I don’t remember much from Friday.

I was prepared to write “Meh Meh Mehs,” then Karen O. & Co. smacked some (but not all) of the smug out of me.

Enjoyable reminder of days gone by. Really big fan of some of the tracks on here but I know I won’t go back to it

The album starts out really strong with the synth-rock “Zero” and “Heads Will Roll,” but loses steam after that. I think I expected more of that same energy for an album titled “It’s Blitz!” (On that note, I really enjoyed the iTunes-exclusive tracks “Faces” and “Clap Song” because they had that upbeat synth-funk-rock sound.) “Skeletons” and “Dragon Queen” are standouts among the remaining tracks. Overall, the use of synths in a more rock-oriented way (as opposed to dance) kept the album interesting even on the lower-energy tracks. Also, the album art is great. 3/5.

I enjoyed the start of this, surprised how much I enjoyed a visit of Heads Will Roll, but I think it kinda veers off at the end for too long to score higher for me.

a bit repetitive and loud, but that was most 80s-90s rock, right?

Pleasantly surprised

Loud and full of energy, It's Blitz! is a stellar indie rock record that you can still hear this album's influences that pour over today's indie rock. At times, it can be overwhelming but all in all, it's a good ride.

It's pretty good. The Heads Will Roll really made it but the rest if the album is decent

How many eggs do you think they had to crush before they got that album cover photo right?

This ambitious album from Yeah Yeah Yeahs mark a significant departure from the band's earlier sound, with an increased emphasis on electronic instrumentation and dance beats. One of the album's strengths is its ability to shift seamlessly between danceable, upbeat tracks like "Dull Life" and more introspective, emotional ballads like "Hysteric." The latter track, in particular, showcases Karen O's range as a vocalist and her ability to convey raw emotion through her singing. The Vocals from Karen are not flawless on this record but the intention is impressive. The electronic elements on the album, provided by Nick Zinner's synthesizers and keyboards, are the biggest highlight to Yeah Yeah Yeahs' sound. It's an interesting contrast to the band's earlier, more garage rock-oriented albums and shows that they are not afraid to evolve and experiment with different styles. "It's Blitz!" is a highly enjoyable and well-crafted album with ambitious production and vocal-work. It’s a fun listen for sure and gets pretty close to that impressive 4.

Muy 2009, me gusto

I wanted to like this more but 3.5

It's okay, reminds me a bit of Florence and the machines, didn't grip me though. 3 it's not bad, just not very interesting IMO

Vuelvo a escucharlo después de mucho tiempo. En su momento me supo a poco en comparación con "Fever to tell" y "Show your bones". Empieza bien con "Zero". También tenía fichada "Hysteric" y añado "Soft Shock" y "Dull Life".

This was good, but the energy fell off quickly after the first couple tracks.

A fun attempt at mixing both the early aughts dance and indie crazes into a singular LP. Gets a bit homogenous towards the back end, a few standout tracks but loses the energy as the album goes on.

Nice little indie record. Felt a bit formulaic at times, but overall a positive experience. Nothing too offensive. Some tracks I might play now and then but I don't see myself returning to often (or ever). While I could see how this record is placed on this list, I think there are much more deserving albums.

The instrumentals in this album are stunning at times. Most of the vocals don't do much for me however. Favorite track: Skeletons

It is indeed blitz.

Decent synthpop album with some catchy hooks and some more interesting moments (“Runaway”), especially for a pop and dance album. It’s not perfect or really my style but I enjoyed it for what it is.

Gahh the hardest thing for me to be succinct about is reviewing a true middle-of-the-road pick. As much as I appreciate finally getting an album featuring a woman at the forefront the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have never really connected with me. It fits into that category with Audioslave and alt contemporaries of this era where I don't see any faults, per se, but it just doesn't really elicit much of an emotional response for me. The album has a lot of 4-chord, driving straight eighths under meandering/syncopated vocals and it doesn't feel as deliberately thoughtful of a choice for example as in the adverts punk context. The simplicity is definitely accessible but I don't know that I buy the "greater than the sum of its parts" argument for this one. Maybe this is just a product of the genres I grew up on and gravitate towards than criticism, but yeah this is DIRECTLY in the middle for me. If I hadn't been exposed to Heads Will Roll 5000 times since 2009 would I like it as much? I'm not sure. It still doesn't elevate it above 3 for me. I will add however that I didn't notice til halfway through I accidentally had the album on shuffle and I acknowledge that sequencing can be pretty important to the listening experience and so I may be missing the "je ne sais quoi" of It's Blitz. HOT TAKE If this were an EP of just Dull Life, Heads Will Roll and Hysteric I think it would be just as, if not more effective. Odd that it didn't end with Skeletons?!

Heads will roll is a banger

Ya gotta move to this one

It's from about this point onwards that you start to get a feeling rock has been dying a death. 2.5/5

Better than expected but a lot of background noise... WHERE ARE THE BANGERS AT!?!

Obviously Heads Will Roll is an instant iconic track. Apart from that song, I didnt think I was going to enjoy the album with the early songs I heard, however I did enjoy the album a bit more as it went on. I'm a huge sucker for heav(ish) songs with a really light acoustic versions and the ones at the end of the album were a great breath of fresh air for me

Listen

Post Rock, ok

Y'know, looking back at all the 5/5s I've given over this past year and something, there's only a few I would consider downgrading on subsequent relistens. One of them would be Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Fever to Tell", which I gave a 5/5 back in February 2022 (If you're wondering the other two would be Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" and Black Sabbath's debut). It's still a really fun album, but not something I would consider an essential listen. I was really hoping this album could fill that spot since it's apparently their best one, but it didn't really do anything for me. The best song, and the only song I've heard beforehand, is "Heads With Roll". The other songs range from completely forgettable to fine dance music you would faintly hear while sitting on the toilet at a party. 3/5. Don't do that egg thing with my balls, that would suck.

I mean it's quite good, couldn't help thinking i'd prefer to be listening to something else while it was playing. It's good good synths, vocals and tunes, just overall it's meh - strong 3

Some nice melodies and songwriting, but it just feels a bit lifeless and artificial in delivery.

Decent but uneventful pop/rock with a female voice. Not sure why this needed to be included over e.g. The Cranberries

i only listed to the first four songs. one of those but he’s is from sing! i think

Mostly entertaining songs.

I thought I'd know more tracks on this one. It was alright but nothing to keep me coming back.

A band that passed me by in the 2000s. Worth another listen I reckon.

I expected to like this more than I did, but at least did inspire me to go track down some yeah yeah yeahs songs I really liked back in the day

It was fine but I didn't connect with it. It was also a little too high energy for my mood for the days

This album definitely had some good and unique songs on it but on the whole I don't see myself listening to it again

Favourite song: Heads Will Roll

Synthy dance-punk vibes

Hyvät melodiat pelastavat tämän omalta estetiikaltaan. Kohokohta: levyn lopettava Little Shadow-tunnelmointi.

I have been wanting to get some new indie music album. Just what i had been asking for. Wow! Listening to the first song! I am so glad I found this project! What I did not like about the blitz, is it did not evolve. It began in a place I liked. Felt like very belonging to its time, of just before 2010's, but then the album just did not evolve. The melodies stayed the same, the music was progressively getting more boring and all the songs super similar.

Dull life is pog

So... Yeah. Yeah yeah. This is fine, but I'm not sure it's a "must hear before death" album by any means.

Somewhat eclectic-feeling pop-rock-ey stuff

I remember when this album came out, and I was not into it because I liked Fever to Tell a lot. Coming back to it, it was better than I remembered, but it's still a pale comparison, imo. 3.49/5

I’ll never get over my teenage bias. It’s fine, but I just don’t care. C

I like this for its bouncy energy. There are a few songs that I recognized in a 'oh yeah I've heard it on the radio' kind of way.

First two songs are bangers. There’s a few other good tracks as well but it falls a bit flat at times for me, especially the 2nd half. If the rest of the album followed the first half or was half the length it would be 4+

Zero: Cool synths and percussion, but they overpower the vocals, vv catchy though Goes on for a bit 6/10 Heads will roll: Oh so this albums gonna be boring fr The beats good though 7/10 Soft shock: Decent synths, quite vibey Oh fuck off its 4 minutes These songs are way too long than they need to be Vocals are cool Ok yeah i like this song (or i would if it wasnt far too long) Thats a cool melody 8/10 Skeletons: 5 minutes. 5. Bloody. Minutes. Songs dont need to be long, especially not synthpop songs. This album suffers with a mild case of 'CD syndrome', but not as bad as britpop albums did. The synths here are great though, lovely atmosphere. Holy shit that percussion is good Maybe this gets to be 5 minutes. 8/10 Dull life: This is quite good The changes of pace are enjoyable, within the album and song, but its a bit jarring and rocky. Good though. 7/10 Shame and fortune: Good start, for sure Strong bassline Nice guitar parts 9/10 Runaway: Oh fuck its 5 minutes Not into the piano ngl. Nah this is shite. The atmospheric orchestral bit was cool but then it goes back to boring 6/10 Fr im not into this album but some songs are good Dragon queen: This is vibey Good beat, cool guitars Just vibey innit 10/10 Hysteric: It has a cool guitar tone but i'm not as interested as i could be Actually it gets good towards the end 6.5/10 Little shadow: Not vibin to this Idk what it is about this album but some bits just sound like really generic 2012 movie music and this song definitely fits that. 5/10 Overall: Some songs are good but i never found myself really interested by the album, even if its quite a good album. The more generic and boring tracks just stopped the momentum from the absolute bangers 6/10, probably not gonna give it another listen

The album started off with two good songs then what followed was not as good. This album did not feel like a full-fledged indie album but some of the songs definitely have that feel. I would listen to a select few of the songs again.

Tämähän on varsin energistä poppia!

Ihan hauskaa indie-naputtelua, seassa pari hyvää kappaletta. 3/5 kuitenkin.

A very nice album, but no individual songs made a huge impression after 2 listens. But every song was good and in time some real favourites might emerge. 3.5 stars

Two huge bangers followed by a slow album. In the end I wanted much more intensity than I got, and therefore I can only give this 3 stars.

I really dig the first two tracks here (Zero and Heads Will Roll), but the unfortunately after that the album deteriorates a bit in quality, and never reaches the heights of those two again.

Spiky and very danceable with lots of synth and programming. Not quite as rock as previously. Good 3.5

The first time I heard the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs, I thought it was a new PJ Harvey album. The amalgamation of synth/electronic, punk, with a touch of eccentricity, is perfectly topped with Karen O's haunting vocal character.

Album/artist reminded me a bit of Chvrches and there were a few enjoyable songs in here but nothing to write home about. I feel like a broken record saying this shouldn't be on this list.

Good album with a whopping four closing tracks.

When the Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their first couple albums, they had me curious and interested. A female-fronted edgy, punk, garagy sound band led by the always interesting Karen O, I played their music often and thought they were pretty good. Fast-forward to It's Blitz and I don't know if it's because their sound "evolved" or if my tastes wanted something different, but I lost interest and haven't really listened to them since. Listening to It's Blitz!, now with fresh (and older) ears, I like their sound better than before and it was more enjoyable. Don't know if I'll reconnect with their more recent stuff, but it's more possible than yesterday.

Yeah man it was alright. 6/10

-S Tier- Heads Will Roll -A Tier- Soft Shock Dull Life Dragon Queen -B Tier- Shame and Fortune Runaway Hysteric -C Tier- Skeletons -D Tier- Zero Little Shadow AVG SCORE: 3 / 5 - - - “Heads Will Roll” is a transcendent work of art. How many remixes has it inspired? As a single, it earns 5 stars easily. Was also pleasantly surprised by a handful of other songs.

Track 1: Strong repeating synths in the beginning. Great backing string synths. Oh man great vocal attacks on the high notes, really reaching for them. Really starts to get dancey. Track 2: hey! I know this song and love the remixes to it. Dark and moving synths off the bat. Great dancey and moving beat. Again awesome vocal attacks and moving chorus and back Track. Off with your head. Pretty and heightened bridge section. Nice repeated vocals at the end. Track 3: More chill and laid back. The sporadic vocal hits are awesome. Fantastic drumming and steady neat on this. Love the background relaxing low bell sounds. Awesome heavy-sounding finish to the track. Track 4: Beautiful slow growth of synths in the intro. Can feel this building into something big. Awesome lofty synths floating on everything else. Feels like I'm epically standing in the middle of the road in the rain contemplating life. Nice melodic synth lines. Wish there was a bigger climax but fading great. Track 5: Nice repeating guitar melody in the intro feels cool and badass. Dang amazing pick up to the song, this is hard and aggressive. Great vocal attacks. Nice descending and ascending chorus line. This is a bit punky and bluesy. Track 6: Awesome bluesy bassline with cool effects. Nice percussive drumming. Great heavy distorted guitarwork on this, almost sounds like horns. Track 7: Pretty solo piano intro. Nice introspective lyrics and vocals. Driving drum beats. Wow intense ending with sharp edgey discordant strings. Track 8: Groovy little drum and guitar work. Love the high vocals on this song in the chorus. Track 9: More relaxed vocal delivery. Very empowering and nice reverb guitar backing. Nice and poppy bright song. Very sweeping and smooth chorus. Cool whistling and fading outro. Track 10: calm, relaxing acoustic guitar and soft melodic vocals. Love the dream-like drifting background synths. Pretty apex of the song. Nice humming part at the end to fade. Overall, I liked this album. The vocal deliveries were really cool and crisp. I love the changes in the album from striking and aggressive to soft and smooth sonically. The synths abs backing tracks were incredible. Gave strong vibes like something from Beach House or the Tune-yards.

J'ai vraiment aimé beaucoup leur premier album Fever To Tell.

First two songs slap hard, the rest is okay and gets a little annoying

Good a side but the back half lags.

I've heard Heads Will Roll before which is a lot of fun. Karen Os vocals are great, an easy to listen to. This album is far from perfect. It starts off really strong then tapers off considerably.

Beyond Zero and Heads Will Roll, there's not many memorable tracks. I liked Faces and the acoustic version of Little Shadow, but it's nothing special really.

heads will roll

It's the kinda music I should like. She definitely has an interesting voice. Just feels a bit boring. Stand out tracks: Heads Will Roll.

I don't really know much about the YYYs, but I feel like I should. Mostly up my street! Not that the album blew me away or anything but it was just a fun listen. Cool pop indie

Pretty alright. Fever to tell is better

As with most yeah yeah yeahs material, it's good but it doesn't blow you away.

I'm not going to rush right out an buy an album, but I do enjoy these guys' music.

I don't mind the yeah yeah yeahs actually

This one was pretty good but nothing can compare to Fever to tell.

More of a 'nice to hear' than a 'must hear', but it was nice to hear it all the same. Also nice to be reminded of what absolute bangers Zero and Heads Will Roll are, and they *almost* earned the album a fourth star. 3.5

Eh. Felt a bit too generic

Yeah Yeah Yeahs album, Fever to Tell, is one of my all time favourites. It’s Blitz is okay, but doesn’t capture the raw electricity of earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs performances. I’d still give it a solid 3.5.

Not for me

It's decent!

I think there's a severe case of under-delivering with this album. On one hand, we have: 1. One of the greatest voices in Karen O (she's utterly sensational), 2. One of the songs of its decade in Heads Will Roll, and 3. A band that, generally speaking, does rock and does it well. But the result just doesn't do it to me. Other than the aforementioned hit, the songs fail to rise above the level of "OK", and the album fails to inspire overall.

heads will roll is a classic and very energetic - brings back memories. the rest of the album is good but not specifically my kind of rock music.

very electric; not too crazy about her voice at times; heads will roll (most popular artist song) is a tiktok sound now; runaway was decent but not sure if I would save it; there’s a lot of repetition in all the songs; hysteric is my fav of the album; little shadow is decent but kinda sad; the last few songs of the album are all pretty slow

Forst song great. Many potentials and 3 or 4 ok

Opening with "Zero" and "Heads Will Roll" is really setting the bar high. A brave move that doesn’t always pays off. Especially when you drastically change direction right after. The subsequent nosedive into despair manages to calm my excitement a bit. While containing great songs that aren't as danceable as the lead singles, the massive "Runaway" being the prime example, it just doesn't manage to keep me truly engaged all the way through. I actually think that just spreading out the lead singles would have earned this another star. Tracklists are an artform.

Nice, but not hugely memorable.

One of the better rock/alternative albums I heard. First few songs had my attention but I eventually lost track by the second half. This might be the first album of the genre that I might return to. Sometimes things don’t hit until later. But for now, it’s just not something I prefer. Highlights: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock

3 - pretty samey but half decent

A strong start but a slow finish. I miss the energy and some of the rawness of their first two albums.

It's alright. Prefer st. Vincent for the arty dance-rock stuff

Pretty mid album. Her voice makes me want to fall asleep. Best song in my opinion is dull life.

All around good album, mixes it up a bit

Yes Yes Yes

The more energetic songs have a good beat, but the slow songs are boring.

Maltillinen 3*

Mulle positiivinen ylläriuutuus. Teki vaikutuksen

First Time of Listening to this one, A top album, I know little about this band but can hear their influences on this one. (I Get a cross between the Velvets White Stripes and Siouxsie & The Banshees myself) I liked "Zero" "Heads Will Roll" and "Runaway" amongst others. Rightfully on this list in my opinion I 👍 it.

Way better than Fever to Tell, this album does, unfortunately, contain "Skeletons" which I simply had to skip.

Lekker fris!

More heads should have rolled.

Awfully ‘80s sounding for a hot, 21st century act from NYC. Way more disco-y and synth-y than I recall. The producer’s love for all things Duran isn’t too terribly concealed here. Is the fadeout synth revelry on “Dragon Queen” a sample of Tangerine Dream or just an outright ripoff? The latter, quieter half of the record is much preferred. Feels richer and less frantic/forced. Not terrible, certainly, but not deeply moving or elevating either.

Pretty solid, borderline 4.

dance till your dead

Favorite Tracks: Heads Will Roll Skeletons Hysteric

I got this record after Joy Division's "Closer", and I feel like this record might have been pretty influenced by Joy Division's catalogue. It's post-punky, sparse. Still knows how to cut loose and turn up the volume, and having Karen O as a front woman never hurts. That being said, even as a passing fan of Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I'm a little surprised to see this record here. It's not bad, a little front loaded maybe, but I'm not particularly sure it's something I needed to hear. I appreciate the songwriting here, just didn't click with me as much as their debut did. Favorite tracks: "Heads Will Roll", "Soft Shock", "Skeletons"

Enjoyable, but a bit generic. Not sure why it's on the list.

One of the cool things about the mid 2000's was this new genre called "new rave" that blended elements of dance punk with popular electronic genres at the time such as electro-house and electroclash. I personally pin the kickstart on LCD Soundsystem, though they are not actually new rave. Anyway, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs pivoted to this sound for their third album and it's solid as hell. Really big, exciting sound that encourages a punkish live instrumentation with dance beats and synthesizer. I feel it kinda loses momentum after the second track and never picks it up after that. A bit disappointing because i enjoyed those first two songs, and a full album of them would've been excellent. Not saying the rest is bad, just fine.

Much like the last album, which had some stone cold classics mixed in with a bunch of okay, derivative stuff. Except this time, the three classics are the first three tracks, and then it just fades off. But those first three tracks are all 5 star tracks! Zero and Heads Will Roll are Soulwax style floor fillers, and Soft Shock is one of those Maps style heartbreak anthems.

It started very strong and ended good, the second half was good but I failed to like it nearly as much as the first half. 3.5/5

Blondie meets the Killers. Has the mid/late 2000s dance/rock sound, but a good example of this often nothingy style. The vocals further help elevate this above other records of the time, particularly on the more mellow tracks. Rating: 3.5/5 Playlist track: Skeletons Date listened: 14/04/22

All right I suppose

6/10. I guess this was pretty good.

Fantastic cover art. Crisp clean image of a non-crisp and clean event. Harmless destruction for the joy of it. The title is also solid. I know that a previous album by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs was one of only a couple one star ratings out of over 100 albums rated. So I'm bracing myself. Hmm. First song is not like jagged glass on the ears. Honestly, if I had an open mind, I think I would like Heads Will Roll and Soft Shock is practically pretty. Dull Life is fun. The distortion is there but toned down and used to much better effect, smearing out the backing music, throwing the clarion vocals into nice relief. Yup. This is pretty good. These songs don't pain me because the actual music is literally less painful. Still, it is hard for me to get past my mental block; I can't help the memories and unhappy headspace it puts me in so I don't expect to listen to the album in total again. Maybe in time my head will clear. I definitely won't be so quick with the skip track button on these songs as I am with songs from Fever to Tell. Have I mentioned how this project has made my Spotify channel basically a random music generator? Are you struggling with that too?

A very moment-in-time album.

Not bad, not electrifying

Great one. Not the best indie rock album (not even from YYY, I do prefer Fever to Tell), but a good gem from 2009's.

I just hear the remix when heads will roll is on

This album was a descent album but there are no real standout tracks on it. There is good musicianship and the music is unoffensive. Will it be a classic in 20 years. I really dont think so.

Its decent but I prefered the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs one.

Great hear another woman in rock. Added to my playlists

3.5/5 Surprised that i knew some of the songs on it. “Heads will roll” rules, especially the A-Trak remix, but i ended up really enjoying the sound of the whole album. “Skeletons” and “Runaway” were by other favorites.

Im gonna listen to them from now on

Not bad, but not really memorable either.

The first two songs of the albums are absolute bangers, but after that the quality of the first two doesn't fully hold up.

Hm. The darlings and everybody loves the lead singer. Gentle, good, probs a fun show, easy to sing along with. I think I am jaded because everyone loves them. Probably better than three stars but so be it.

"Heads will roll"

There were a few sounds I really enjoyed on this album. Heads will roll and Dull life were my favorites. The acoustics really showed the vocal quality. Better than the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs album.

Kind of interesting but occasionally bland 2000's era "Indie Rock". For some reason I never connected with a lot of bands from this era. Wikipedia classifies it as "Alternative Pop" - I can see that. Maybe a bit too pop-oriented for me to really connect to it. Not bad but not really into it either.

Tek sam sad jebeno skužio šta pršći na slici. Jebeno jaje. Prvo sam mislio buket jaglaca...

A more streamlined album than their debut, this grips me more.

It's just over the edge of being too pop

Not a huge fan

Didn’t do a ton for me despite the glossy sheen of the presentation. I could see someone finding this amazing and I wouldn’t fight them over it, it just didn’t land with me.

good Indie Rock album

Dull Life slaps Runaway is good too, very atmospheric I like it I like Hysteric

They downplayed the guitars and emphasized the electronics, moving the band into pop and dance territories. (6/10) FT: Heads Will Roll, Little Shadows

i thought it was okay. the singing kinda was annoying but it just was not that interesting

That's a cool album cover. Oh the music? Another one going in fully blind on as I know nothing about the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I like the way it starts with "Zero" - but (and I'm typing as the song ends) I'm wondering if the entire album is going to be this similar up-tempo electronic dance vibe. Which would be fine but is it going to bore me over the better part of an hour....? One thing that immediately grabbed me halfway through is the actual *tone* and *sounds* of the (plentiful) synths - they're great. "Soft Shock" has that deep and full/growly bass that really sounds fantastic. I like a lot of electronic music but making electronic music *be* a rock band often loses something for me. And I feel a little of that early on here, even if each song on its own is pretty good....but - as it turns out I found myself already pre-judging the record because after 4 pretty decent studio songs the next batch starting with "Dull Life" completely changes it up and this record feels more...alive. I found there was a definite ebb and flow in my interest over the album - e.g. I wasn't not that into "Dragon Queen" which was where I'd feared the album might go and it does peter out a bit for me near the end, i.e over the last 4 songs. Will this album stand up for me over repeated listens? I'm hoping it does - there were no songs that immediately jumped at me to give me chills but it also seems a little wrong to only give this a 3 as there's more variety than I ever expected and although the song construction isn't anything revolutionary, the production does push it into more-interesting territory. Call it a 3.5. 7/10 3 stars

Love the first two tracks, but the rest was a bit boring.

Nearly stretched to a 4.

I preferred the acoustic tbh

Both the band and their music are new to me. I don't recall even hearing their name before this album came up on the Generator. When the first track started, I was a little worried it would be too dance-floor-y for my liking, but not so. Some of the tracks kept me engaged nicely, like 'Skeletons.' Others didn't really click for me, sometimes gets a little screechy for me, but I like the band's overall sound and style so I can appreciate the work here. (Side Note: the playlist of the album that came up for me included some acoustic versions of the songs on this album -- I don't think they were included in the original album when it was released -- and some of those versions are interesting.)

It's alright. I got 2 new songs that sound decent as background music.

Liked this, Good Album

Some great moments but want something more consistent in tone. Don’t like the acoustic ones so much.

This was cool - I liked the production, but I'm not super into the songwriting

Pretty melodic stuff. Singer has a cool voice and swagger

Missa typ några sånger lol

Fun and creative. Not something you must listen to before you die, but enjoyable if you do.

A more disco direction, it’s a big job for this album to deliver after the opening salvo of Zero / Heads Will Roll. There are moments where the enthusiasm dips but overall it is quality.

Forgot how good an album this is

Another band that I had never listened to previously and was surprised it had been nominated a grammy in 2009 for best alternative album. In listening to it several times, I find while I don't dislike it, it also doesn't particularly move me in any way. Just kind of mediocre. Heads will Roll and Dull Life are the best in my opinion. 3.4/4.0

It's a nice album, but is it really worthy of being on the 1001 albums list? Seems like prototypical indie rock - not bad but nothing special either. 2.5 stars.

I quite liked it. It was very chill and very nice to read while listening to it.

I'm already familiar with this album and man what a disappointment this album was. I remember being very much into this group from late middle school into high school, and I had already devoured every release they had made up to this point. From what I recall it felt overall a bit uninspired, much like all of their later work from here on out (with each release having a decreasing amount of good material). It's one of those trajectories that constantly makes me wonder how a successful group of artists could actually continue to stay at the level of inspiration required to keep making good shit. Not to say this is a horrible album but it definitely pails in comparison to the last couple albums, which contain front to back bangers, while this one only has maybe half of a good album at best.

Skeletons and Hysteric stood out.

alright not stand out

Good. Reminds me of EB.

Heads will roll! Sonst gutes Album, nicht ganz mein Geschmack.

I loved the melodies, the energy and and the music. Not so sure about the vocals but I may listen again.

Decent. Not a huge fan of the vocals.

Pretty solid album but the second half lacks punch

Ok.not great. Very 2k wanting to be 80's. Listened 2x. A couple weren't too bad. My daughter liked a couple.

Kind of cool. Heads will roll I already knew just didn’t know it was by them.

Pretty decent

I like this band and I like this album.

jan says it's got bangers, i couldn't get past the signing. will give it benefit of doubt.

I thought "Heads Will Roll" was familiar until I realized it was sung on Glee. 😂

Couldn't play a single song off of it

Nice tunes

piola bueno

Liked it. A little noisy and overstimulating at times, hence the 3 instead of 4, but I liked it!

Not bad.

*dance dance dance til ur dead* The rest of the album is pretty enjoyable, I was expecting it to be worse

Not bad. Some songs stand out.

An album that's only 12 years old! Wow! A yoot!  The weekend was too busy to get through even the first half but I was kinda digging what I heard.

Not bad. Liked it more the second time I listened to it.

Some fun songs, overall it sounded a bit too similar

Know, some gooduns some baduns is what it is

Some belters

No where near as fun as I remembered it. I coincidentally listened to Fever to Tell last week and that stood up much much better than this.

A bit frustrating, but only because its so close to being really good. I think its the dance influence that throws me off. Album brings me back to my first job which was basically a Hot Topic in an amusement park and it was around the time this album came out so I probably listened to a few of these songs

FT Heads will roll

Listenable but nothing really stood out for me. Would probably give it another go.

A very high school album for me. The sound can be grating in spaces, but when it works, it works well.

For me Karen O’s wonderful voice has always been the most notable thing about this band. She can rock out with the best of them and then completely soften her tough edge with mellower songs like Little Shadow and Skeleton.

It's okay, pretty chill pop punkish vibes

Indie. Peculiar. Cosas interesantes.

I thought this was pretty good. I think that pretty much everyone knows "Heads Will Roll", but I hadn't heard any other song. I would rather listen to this again than "Toys in the Attic" again.

Pretty cool album! laughably I did not realize 'heads will roll' was by this band and was caught way off guard. The album is an interesting mix of Rock/Dance , would love a party where stuff like this was the dancing vibe. A few tracks like 'dull life' and 'runaway' were the standouts for me. All in all, a cool album I would never be mad to hear come on, but would rarely select - classic 3.5 || An Aside: The first few notes of 'Dragon Queen' made me think they were about to play KoRn's "Falling Away From Me" and caught me by surprise every time it came on. Listen to it - eerily similar, for real!

I liked it

I'm much less familiar with this album than "Fever To Tell", and there's no nostalgia bump. The first few tracks feel poppier, and then it gets more whistful? Those are both pleasant modes for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs to adopt. Fave track - "Dull Life" - though I think I need to give the album a couple more listens, as there are some other contenders there, for sure...

Solid album I enjoyed more than I expected

Album wasn't available on spotify

Pretty good indie music. Good job of mixing EDM, Rock, and Pop. Some songs I really liked: Dragon Queen and Dull Life

not bad

Good album, especially after listening to the Pretenders the other day. I like Its Blitz more than their first album.

meeh decent, inte för mig

Not as good as Fever to Tell

Not bad alternative rock album. Not really my taste but enjoyable.

Helt ok men framförallt pisstråkigt.

Objectively looking it’s great, nothing really wrong with it. But you can’t make me listen to the whole thing again. Nothing really stood out enough for me.

Not exactly the Ting Tings but in that bracket.

Verrrrryyyy interesting (I got bored)

I was listening to a song in a fire engine drove by and it made the song 10 times more interesting. I feel like the production smeared everything together a little too much without intention especially on heads will roll. Some may call this a “compressed” sound. If you say this, you are eric. Go listen to their first album “fever to tell”. I think the reason they use a compressed mix approach is cuz their garage rock background. Karen’s voice stands out for the band (and the mix) in everysong. Soft shock carries the album.

Occasionally good, but not much originality. Would make good party background. Liked the voice.

I'll admit to being tired (just got home from Canada), but pretty sure I'd have given this a 2 (rather than a 3) even if I wasn't tired. Loud and dramatic, but not very interesting, or catchy, or . . . musical?

light two. unremarkable pop rock. I can't stand the songs where they hit every single eighth note. No rhythmic diversity. Compositionally unimpressive too I think it's telling that their most famous song is actually more famous as the remix version

Faces and Heads will roll are my favourite!

Other than Heads Will Roll I found this album a bit something and nothing. I don’t want to just be waiting for the big hits but I really struggled to see whpy this album was included in the list…

This was ok but ultimately not really for me. I liked Soft Shock and Faces and I thought Heads Will Roll and Dragon Queen were ok - nothing really gripped me though! also not a fan of acoustic versions on the main album - I’ve just heard this and now you want me to hear it again but worse ???? anyways …

Just an ok album for me. Nothing really grabbed me by the scruff of the neck. Some ok pop tunes but pretty forgettable overall

Pretty meh. Not sure why it’s on this list.

Meh meh mehs

It was fun. I don't know if I'll go back to this one, but I like "Heads will Roll." I knew that one well already, so it was cool to learn where that one came from.

The music is ok but i don't like Pattys voice

Not my kind of music, i fount it very uninteresting.

Individually there are some good songs I like, but as an album it keeps getting quieter & slower to the point I keep wondering when it will end. Songs I liked: Heads Will Roll, Hysteric & Soft Shock 2/5

Boring generic late 00s alt rock. Just did nothing for me.

Ok not my favorite

I’d never heard any Yeah Yeah Yeahs before. Listened attentively while driving - no chance to read anything about it. Couldn’t work out what it was trying to be: so much synth but still guitars chugging away? Singer aiming for what? Some sounded like they wanted to be U2 with bombastic stadium anthems, but they couldn’t write anything catchy. Some made me wonder if they wanted to be Siouxsie and the Banshees, but no energy in the drumming, nothing attention-grabbing in the vocals. Then I got a chance to look at Wikipedia. Someone seriously described this as synth-punk?? This album is practically the opposite of punk. Someone said the singer and guitarist are both amongst the greatest ever? Yeah, na. For me, this album is Pretty Poor, 3/10.

Come across as a load of nothingness. Heard similar more times than I can remember. Little to commend it and little to dislike. Stuck in a sea of meh. 2/5 14/5/26

I never liked them before, but this wasn't as bad as expected. Some not bad stuff on here beyond their radio hits.

I like heads will roll

I listened to about 9 songs in this album, it was really bland and I the chorus slowly became repetitive.

flat and boring.

Kinda ok

This seems like the kind of music I would expect to hear while dancing at a nightclub. Except I don’t go to nightclubs, and I don’t dance. It’s fine, up-tempo, nothing offensive. Good danceable beat. Nothing I will be adding to my collection.

not really

It’s synth pop.

Unknown band. OK music. OK album.

Cool album overall, it has a couple of bangers. Not a lot of albums can represent this sort of sound better than this one. Would be on the fence on whether it deserves inclusion. 7/10 [KEEP]

This is a pretty standard early thousands indie disco floor filler album. Not bad, but not something you'll go back to time and again. Sits perfectly nicely in the background, without ever challenging or inspiring. Could equally be any number of local bands from around the world that were decent, if unspectacular.

Started on a relative high with Zero. Unfortunately, many songs did not follow through on the promise of awesome indie sleaze rock that the first song made. Heads Will Roll genuinely sucks, it's so annoying. I felt the same about Dull Life. Skeletons is alright. The rest of the album varies from vaguely okay to pretty grating. Sad, as I do enjoy other Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs from other albums.

No. Too much

An album of two halves, with the electronic based tracks far stronger. Opens with a series of engaging tunes, from the euro-pop affectations of Zero to the standout OMDish celtic overtures of Skeletons. But then disappears into a steam of forgettable filler.

I don't think YYY ever released a great album - it was diminishing returns after their first EP (which is superb). A few good tracks on this, but a lot of filler.

This started well and was quite enjoyable, but then I felt lost its way a bit and got a bit boring

Not terrible, weirdly the 4th two star album in a row all by bands who have much better work in their back catalogue. Tom.

Am I missing something? I have no idea what is noteworthy about this album. It wasn't outright terrible, but... why? Forgettable pop rock.

This wasn’t quite as terrible as the first record by them we reviewed, but it was still terrible.

This was a slight improvement from the last album we listened to by the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs but that bar was pretty low to begin with. The songs on this album are far less grating and actually have some artistic creativity to them. Not much to hang my hat on other than it didn’t completely suck.

Someone wrote that the genre for this album should be called “Indieslop” and I think that’s a great description. I never bought into the hype on this band - Look it’s the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! They must be super rad, they released on DGC! They moved BACKWARDS stylistically from post-punk to synth-pop, aw man they’re so cool! Karen O is the best, just ignore that you can’t understand a single word of what she’s singing, alright? This is kitschy, east village vibe core and, while the critics can have their darlings, I’m not fucking with it.

Damn shame. I really liked Fever To Tell, but this is an entirely different feel. They went and prettied everything up. Tore the heart and grit out of music. Makes me sad.

The first two tracks aren’t bad, but it didn’t hold me for the rest of the album.

it was okay
