It's Blitz!

It's....fine. It's better than the other Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I had on here the other week (Fever To Tell). There's not much here that particularly grips me, but the music sounds good. Heads Will Roll is great (but the remix is better). 5.5/10 (2.75/5)

I love that there are albums you listen to that just sound like the time they were released. This album is good, but lags a little here and there. There are definitely some great bops that I love though.

This album disappointed me. I've liked the song Hysteric for a long time and was happy to see the album show up on the list, but I was bored by most of it. A couple of memorable songs. The rest is pleasant enough background noise.

A group I know very little about having only really heard two or three of their songs before. Not sure what to expect from this. If the album cover is evocative of their sound then I'm most likely in for a ride. Love the energy and motion of the egg shattering. Zero Immediately throwing me off the deep end with the loud electronics. The slight echo effect on the vocals adds some spaciousness to the mix. The singer has some interesting tricks up her sleeve. The chorus grew one me, especially when following the heavy electronic bridge. The ending meanders a bit, overstays its welcome a bit. Decent enough. 3.5/5 Heads Will Roll This song has been remixed so many times, I forgot how the original sounded. The rock-adjacent production on the chorus is unexpected. Has a good energy to it. The synth line in the background is great. I think the vocals work well as a contrast to the heavy electronic instrumental. Sounds like a precursor to a lot of the dance music that would come out the following decade. Decent. 3.5/5 Soft Shock I love the high pitched electronic line in the background. The production does a lot with what on the surface is a fairly simple song. At some points it does take up slightly too much space, where the vocals sort of get overshadowed by it. I think the chrous is cute and simple. The instrumental at the end really ties the song nicely together. Enjoyable. 4/5 Skeletons Spacious and cloudy instrumentation. Love the repetitiveness. The first verse does well to set up the following synth passage. The singer's vocals are really solid and work excellently for this type of instrumentation. Love the departure from the heavy electronics snd distorted guitars of the previous tracks. The ending of the track is beautiful and loud and it sparks some powerful images in the listener's imagination. Works really well, great vibes. 5/5 Dull Life I feel like I've heard this guitar many times before. Don't really like the tone for this track in particular. Really loud and messy switchup. The chorus is made to sound a lot bigger than it is. I think the vocals veer close to annoying at certain points. I'm not really a fan of the chorus, it sounds very of the time. The singer brings great energy to the track, and while her performance especially on the chorus does things I don't necessarily find appealing, it really is the only real highlight for me on the song. She salvages a few points by being unique and by taking things in other directions than maybe expected. Her attitude on this track is also really fun to listen to. Average. 2.5/5 Shame and Fortune The electronic bass is not something I enjoy here, mixed too loudly. I enjoy the punky writing on the verse. Not a fan of the guitar sound again. A bit of a weak track, doesn't really do much for me. I don't think the energy really goes anywhere, and it ends up sounding a bit muddled. Weak. 2/5 Runaway Sharp piano notes. Oddly mixed vocals. I like when the instrumental dips its toes into a noisier darker sound. Feels dramatic. Does veer slightly into movie trailer music territory by the end. There's definitely a largeness to the track, and I think the end result works fine for what it's trying to be, though I think there might've been a more interesting direction to take the track. Fine. 3/5 Dragon Queen Bouncy and full of life. I really don't like the bass sound. Oddly phrased lyrics on the chorus, I do like the vocal melody though. Doesn't seem to go anywhere. The synth line in the background that stays throughout the track sort of overstays its welcome by the end. Can't say I cared much for it. Weak. 2/5 Hysteric Sweet and romantic. I think the lyrics are kinda pretty. Great chorus. I think the instrumental compliments the vocals well. Not sure about how the title is implemented. The ending instrumental builds well upon the track. Good. 4/5 Little Shadow Slight lullaby vibe. It would've worked better for me with less overbearing production. Hate the stadium drums. Overproduced. Feels like a clash of ideas that doesn't really add up to anything special. Going in the dramatic direction really ruined the song for me. Did not like. 2/5 Faces A late 2000s indie rock song sounding late 2000s indie rock song. For once I like the guitar on this album. I think the structure of the song is pretty fun. Feels youthful and energetic. Doesn't really have one particular part that sticks out, rather lots of small pieces that add up to a pretty decent and fun track. Don't understand it as an album closer though. Decent. 3.5/5 A really mixed experience. The great stuff on this album has a lot going for it. Great energy, good songwriting with a few hints of magic here and there. They perform their ideas to their fullest, and seem to commit to exploring different styles. The vocals being a real highlight, bringing a unique and punchy energy, while remaining soft and familiar. Clearly the band not interested in being pidgeonholed into a particular genre or style, and seem to stand well on their own. However I think a lot of the latter part of the album has some stylistic choices I don't personally agree with. It results in a sort of messy, inconsistent listen often with tracks being both great and terrible at the same time, with some tracks that feel like wasted potential. I also think the track listing is a bit incoherent at times, where I wonder why certain tracks are where they are. I do concede that many of my gripes with the album is a matter of personal preference and that someone else could find the creative choices I dislike fantastic. I personally will be returning to a few tracks from this, but the full album probably won't be in my regular rotation. A bumpy road, but a decent listen. Fave track. Skeletons Least fave track. Starts off strong but very quickly loses most of the energy with a few exceptions like "Dull Life", "Shame And Fortune" and "Faces" at the very end. Nothing too mind-blowing, there are tracks I'd add to a playlist or two (like the ones I mentioned above and of course "Heads Will Roll") but this isn't an album I'd ever fully listen front to back again.

Sort of ghosty pop music. I have heard some of the hits before but never the whole album. Not bad, probably good to put on at a get together because it's not too overbearing.

Nearly great, but not quite

Good album, not amazing. Good sound and production, some of the songs are amazing, "Heads Will Roll" is an all time classic, but it's not a must-listen album.

1st half of the album pulls you in but eventually falls flat on the second half, heads will roll will forever remain a hit. 6/10.

I was stoked for this album originally cause I got “the yeah yeah yeahs” confused with “the gimmie gimmie gimmies” (which you should look into if you like female singer rock bands). But despite the mild confusion, I loved the first 3 songs. It kinda fell off after that. But it’s still a solid modern rock album. The singers voice is great, really liked what she brought to the songs and I also liked the instrumentals. Really my only complaint is the album as a whole is kinda forgettable. Love the album artwork as well but ultimately this is a solid 3.

When it comes to the first half of the record - Yeah Yeah Yeahs give us an impression of an indie band which is not the first, and certainly not the last ona which tried to hop onto the 2000s trend of mixing rock music with electronic. Bland melodies, edgy lyrics and irritating vocals. Pure shit. However - the second half is surprisingly very good and a complete opposite. If it weren't for the first half, this one would have been a straight five.

Ive always enjoyed the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and have felt they were an underrated band from the 2000's. This album in particular was solidly good- I like that they were experimenting with sound outside of their normal rock sound. I thought it was effective in some places but not in others. The hits are definitely hits but some of the deep tracks started to sound a little same-y. Overall- 3.5/5

Easily her best work

1. Zero - A fun and upbeat way to open the album. 2. Heads Will Roll - I've heard the A-Trak remix of this songs many times and I think I like the remixed version better. 3. Soft Shock - As the name suggests, it does go for a slower, a bit softer vibe despite the distortion still being present. I really like how the it progresses. Enjoyable. 4. Skeletons - Starts off with only synths and vocals. Lyrically minimalistic, obviously focusing more on atmosphere. The progression is even more noticeable with this one with a slower pace and buildup. I feel like I'm on a journey. Really cool track. 5. Dull Life - Starts calmly but quickly picks up into a fun groove. I was afraid is was going to be another slow burner but it actually made move. Definitely leaning more on the rock side with the dominant guitars. Fun. 6. Shame And Fortune - They sure love to build things up with that opening riff. Fuzzy guitars and groovy drumming. The instruments really shine on this one, especially the drums. 7. Runaway - Nice colorful synths opening the track, then the more moody guitars takes their place. The drums kick in as the colorful synths make their comeback and then everything comes clashing in a beautiful chaos. Once. The emphasis on musical structure rather than lyrics is preset here aw well and I love it. Very cool. 8. Dragon Queen - This one starts groovy for a change. Everything is son funky here. Another song you can dance to. 9. Hysteric - Starts off warm and chill. I love how each instrument does it's own thing and shines through. Then those happy synths appear out of nowhere and what is it? horns? They always know how to progress the song further and keep it interesting. 10. Little Shadow - Is it the final track already? This album flew by me so fast. A quiet and moody start lead by thunderous drums. More layers are added while the calm and moody vibe remains. Maybe not the most memorable but nice little track. Conclusion: I listened to the album only once so far and I quite enjoyed it. It didn't overstay it's welcome and was consistent all throughout while remaining engaging. I can see myself listening to it at least one more time and maybe playing it again if I'm in the mood. Maybe after the next listen I would explore their discography further.

The production is absolutely top tier, and the vocals of Karen O are soooo impressive to listen to. I was VERY interested by this album's first 3 tracks that I got left with musical blue balls. The first 3 tracks are sooo sooo good. And while the rest of the album is fine, this album peaks VERY early. This album feels like 80s mixed with 00s. The beats were so much fun but it really left me wanting something more. The acoustic tracks were fun, but felt out of place. Liked Songs: "Zero" , "Heads Will Roll" , "Soft Shock" , "Dull Life" , "Hysteric"

This is a good album. Some of the songs are actually really nice, like "Skeletons." But it has too much of that 2010 indie sound. Big super compressed and distorted drums; lots of toms and a fat fuzzy kick. Has too much of that ballsy 'rawk' guitar ala Cage The Elephant, etc. Too much of that canned grandiosity. Like... a Target ad or something. Again, I don't hate this. I don't even dislike it. I was 19 when this came out so I went to college with this sound. I can totally listen to it and have it on and understand who this was for. It's definitely better than some of the other sound-alike indie of the time, but I still don't think I would listen to it again. Also, I think I have to change my rating criteria. 1 is I hated it, 2 is boring/meh/fine/whatever, 3 is I liked it but still wouldn't go out of my way to listen to it, 4 is great I really liked it, and then 5 is mind-blowing changed-my-life material.

The first few songs have a very different energy than the rest of the album. Makes me think of the "life cycle" of a party girl......upbeat and frenetic at the outset, but melancholy starting to creep in over time. Not bad at all, although not something I would have listened to normally.

Definitely a different album, fun to hear. Feels a bit like a modern Blondie album for some reason. I also noticed that I have saved song from Yeah Yeah Yeahs on Spotify, but sadly it's not from this album. Personally, the experience of this album was a bit up and down, and I'm a hard time deciding how I feel about it. On one hand, it had some songs that were decent, like 'Soft Shock', 'Dragon Queen', and 'Hysteric', but nothing that really wow:ed me. I also appreciate the fact that it stands out among much else on this list. On the other hand, I just don't think this is for me. The album's by far most popular song, 'Heads Will Roll', didn't do anything for me whatsoever. I generally find that the music gets a bit too messy, and I think it's mostly due to the singer. She really is a blessing and a curse; it's what makes the band unique, but it also gets a bit too much at times. Think I'm going to settle on a 3 after all. It's not anything I want to put on again, really.

The iTunes summary says that the drummer has never had this much fun playing on an album, but drum machine programming doesn't strike me as fun, per se. I think the second half is more interesting than the first since it's more human performance and less dance loops. This is a confusing album. The singer has clear star power, and the rest of the bans is tremendously talented, but this feels like an insulated performance. Rock, once removed.

It's a proper album. It's curated with a track list that builds tension, some surprising moments like soft shock. Overall it's better than the singles but I probably won't come back to it much. It feels like an album that wants to be played right through and I'm not sure I like it enough to listen to it that way.

I can listen to this. 1001 is a lot of records. I can believe that this makes the cut.

Il faut que je vous avoue un truc : j'avais une tendresse particulière pour les Yeah Yeah Yeahs du début. Au commencement des années 2000, alors que New York redevenait le centre du monde du rock, ils étaient le chaos incarné. Une chanteuse, Karen O, qui était une véritable boule d'énergie punk, un sex-symbol déglingué et une artiste à fleur de peau. Et surtout, un guitariste, Nick Zinner, qui torturait sa six-cordes pour en sortir des sons uniques, des riffs anguleux et crades qui vous prenaient à la gorge. Leurs deux premiers albums, c'était de l'art-punk brut, de la sueur, du garage et des sentiments à vif. C'était viscéral. Et puis, en 2009, arrive "It's Blitz !". Et là... le grand écart. La douche froide pour certains, la révélation pour d'autres. Pour moi, pour être honnête, ce fut la confusion la plus totale. Le titre de l'album est une promesse de guerre éclair, d'attaque frontale. Mais la véritable blitzkrieg, c'est celle qu'ils ont menée contre leur propre son. Fini les guitares-rasoirs, adieu le rock brut de décoffrage. Pour ce troisième album, le trio a engagé le sorcier David Sitek de TV On The Radio, et le message est clair : place aux synthétiseurs, aux boîtes à rythmes, aux sonorités eighties. On range les perfectos en cuir et on sort les épaulettes et les boules à facettes. Le résultat ? Eh bien, c'est un album qui te laisse sur le cul, sans que tu saches vraiment si c'est de plaisir ou de déception. Je ne sais pas sur quel pied danser. Et c'est terriblement frustrant. Il y a des moments de pure grâce. Il faut être sourd ou de mauvaise foi pour ne pas reconnaître l'efficacité redoutable de "Zero" ou de "Heads Will Roll". Ce sont des tubes. Des machines à faire danser, avec des refrains qui s'incrustent dans le cerveau et des nappes de synthés qui vous emportent. C'est de l'électro-pop entraînante, intelligente, parfaitement produite. Quand on écoute ces morceaux, on se dit que le virage est réussi, que le groupe a su se réinventer avec brio. La voix de Karen O, plus posée, se marie étonnamment bien à ces ambiances plus froides et synthétiques. Mais le problème, c'est que l'album ne tient pas cette promesse sur la durée. Passés ces deux ou trois sommets, on a l'impression que le disque patine, qu'il ne décolle jamais vraiment. On a des morceaux bien faits, élégants, mais qui manquent cruellement de l'étincelle de folie qui faisait tout le sel du groupe. La production de Sitek aussi brillante soit-elle, a tendance à tout lisser, à tout rendre un peu trop propre. On a perdu la crasse, le danger. On a l'impression d'écouter un excellent groupe de synth-pop, mais on a perdu les Yeah Yeah Yeahs en cours de route. C'est un album commercial, oui, sans aucun doute. C'était le son de l'époque, une tentative de coller à l'air du temps, ce qui n'est pas un crime en soi. Mais on sent le calcul, on sent la volonté de produire un son plus "adulte", plus "accessible". Et dans cette quête, ils ont sacrifié une partie de leur âme. Le jeu de guitare si unique de Nick Zinner est quasi-inexistant, noyé sous les couches de claviers. Ce n'est pas un mauvais album, loin de là. C'est un disque agréable, qui s'écoute sans déplaisir. Mais il est terriblement sage et la sagesse, ce n'est pas ce que je demande aux Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Je leur demande de me secouer, de me surprendre, de me mettre mal à l'aise. "It's Blitz !" me laisse sur ma faim. Un 3 sur 5, c'est au final une note "mi-figue mi-raisin". La note d'un album qui a le cul entre deux chaises. Pas assez fou pour être un grand disque des YYYs, pas assez pop pour être un classique intemporel. C'est le son d'une transition, d'une mue. Intéressant, mais pas totalement convaincant. Un disque à écouter, pour sûr, mais qui laisse un étrange goût d'inachevé.

3.6/5 it was a bit of a mental struggle to start listening to this album as i wasn’t getting j to it. but eventually got through that wall and honestly, it’s a good album. it has a few really amazing songs but then kind of drops off in places for me. i do love the singer’s voice. fave songs being; -skeletons -dull life -shame and fortune least fave song; -heads will roll

I have always really enjoy the popular songs from YYY. But the rest of there songs leave me wanting more. Beautiful voice from the singer.

I fell off a bit over the holidays but there didn’t seem to be anything too pressing that I missed. This however is a great album and highly underrated band. It’s a shame that their music has become part of various TikTok dances, but it’s also cool to see them being exposed to a new generation. It’s like a Gen Xer fucking to Englebert Humperdink.

This is #day134 of my #1001albumsyoumusthearbeforeyoudie challenge, and... another Yeah Yeah Yeahs album. Weird. As I mentioned before (when I got Fever To Tell earlier on this list), this band has never really clicked for me. While their debut was mostly unlistenable (or maybe I just wasn't in the right mood), this one has some good moments. It's well-produced, with interesting arrangements, melodic, and all that. But it still doesn't grab me. It feels like a blend of Blondie and Franz Ferdinand + synths. I love Blondie, and I'm not a fan of the latter, but I don't see the point of needing another Blondie, you know? One song did stand out, though, and that's "Runaway." I'm giving it a 3 out of 5. Looking forward to #day135.

I would definitely rock my side swept bangs to some of the tunes on this album in 2000s. But it gets kind of repetitive. Also, I found the acoustic versions simply unbearable.

Hey, I recognize Heads Will Roll. This seems like a groovy album. I dig it, but it wasn't amazing. It's middle of the road. 3

I dug this. I do like a good woman fronted electronica group. Brazilian Girls, HAIM, Ladyhawke, Goldfrapp, The Start, JJamz, Ladytron, The Sounds, New Young Pony Club all come to mind as I am a fan. This had a bit stronger of a rock feel combined with the electronica. I felt that the album started strong and then towards the end got a bit repetitive with melodies and note selection. Overall I liked it and am interested in listening to other albums.

Heads will Roll is my favorite track. Some of this is fun but overall it’s inconsistent.

Compared to the early dirty punkrock years this comes in more like a third wave of synth pop album. Very slick, a bit too clean but yet reduced to its essence. I am nit overwhelmed but it‘s a decent pop record.

I really liked their first (?) album, Fever to Tell; I didn't really listen to the rest of their stuff after that, so it was nice to revisit this band. This album was all right; it definitely sounds like the group has "matured," if that makes sense; it sounds like an album made by older people. To that end, it lacks the rock-grittiness that I found appealing in the first place, which is a pity. However, this album is pretty solid, and worth a revisit.

This was always about where YYYs fell off the Maps for me (see what I did there?) but this relisten was worth it for Hysteric. terrific song

Yeah it was okay

Not a bad album, "Heads Will Roll" is a certified banger, but it just isn't their best album. Good enough of a listen though.

I truthfully only listened to one song.

It's Halloween and I got an album featuring the singles "Heads Will Roll" and "Skeletons". That's fun This is a decent album with cool synths and great vocals. After the heights of the first two tracks the rest of the songs are not as good, IMO

Ik ken genoeg bandjes uit de 00s en ik heb ook wel van de jajajas gehoord. Ik zou alleen niet zo een hitje op kunnen noemen. Als ik het zo luister, past het wel prima bij de 00s. Het heeft iets punk-achtigs met wat indierock. De gitaren staan lekker op distortion, de drums zetten een industrial-light sfeertje neer. Maar door de zang blijft het geheel wel keurig binnen de lijntjes in de zin dat het op het algemene kanaal van K!NK gedraaid kan worden en niet op de metal of een andere alternatieve stream. Ik veer even op bij Runaway. Enerzijds begint het enorm suf met dat pianootje, maar als het nummer losbreekt door er een soort strijkorkest bij te gebruiken, doet me dat denken aan goede postrock uit de 00s (ik mis persoonlijk Oceansize in deze snoblijst). Vervolgens komt er weer een semi-electro-nummertje, ook typerend voor de 00s. Het begint nu al wat gedateerd te klinken, die kale drumcomputer. Op een gegeven moment kwam dat helemaal in, dat er geen drumstel meer stond, maar een stel van die elektronische panelen, waar de drummer op aan het slaan was. Er is op zich niks mis mee, maar het is niet helemaal mijn smaak. En zoals gezegd, klinkt het me nu al wat gedateerd in de oren. Ben benieuwd wat voor effecten we over 10 jaar uit deze periode nog herinneren of gebruiken, wat er overblijft en niet gedateerd aanvoelt. Of dat we het allemaal vergeten, en dat ik over een jaar al niet meer weet dat ik dit album een 3 heb gegeven.

23/10/24 Bang average, one decent song on the album.

While tracks like Heads Will Roll still stay relevant, though mostly because of social media and party movies, there isn't a whole lot else here that persisted very far. That being said, it still holds up today and has a ton of fun tracks, and it is by no means boring or unoriginal. My favorites here were Soft Shock, Heads will Roll, Dull Life, and Runaway.

I would have a hard time saying if this is better than Fever To Tell. It’s definitely more polished and the expanded instrumentation leads to more variety. It’s just a different flavor of good. Favorite songs were Zero, Heads Will Roll, Dull Life, and Hysteric.

Well composed pop punk, with synth beats, and mellow lulls. I have personally not ever had the click with the Yeahs, but the album is solid nonetheless. I prefer the punk forward sound of their early career.

I certainly didn't think we would get two by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yeah, yeah, yet here we are. I feel similar about this album as I did the previous Yeah Yeah Yeahs album I listened to. Very pleasant and this album seems to have received rave reviews when it came out. I liked the upbeat songs a bit more than the quieter songs. Heads Will Roll is a great song and the entire first half is really good as well. Not sure we needed two albums by this band, mostly because I don't know if I think what they are doing here is much better than what other groups were doing at the time.

Significantly better than the other YYY album. Skeletons sounds like an Odesza song. Felt like a stronger first half than the second. I want to give this a 4 because I hated the other YYY album so much, but that would be a bit biased. High 3, though.

1000x better than that last Yeah Yeah Yeahs album that had Maps on it. Still pretty generic rock but did throw in some cool guitar parts. The singer wasn't absolutely rubbish in this one so that is make this weigh much higher.

Very different from their first album which I am far more familiar with. Their change of direction to more electronic sound might have reflected their increasing popularity as I can imagine this having a wider appeal and sounding amazing live.

I thought this album was fine, but only the last two songs made me feel much of anything, and I still think neither get close to the height of "Maps" as a song. Overall, it's a fine album, and I can't find faults to put it at a 2, but I can't say I have any interest in ever listening to it again.

Calming, good background noise. Probably wouldn’t be a daily listen but good to put in a focus type of playlist and shuffle. Favorite on the album - soft shock

Cool electric sound, enjoyed the singers voice. Some slower songs as well that translate to the acoustic tracks at the end. Not my favorite but worth a listen.

Some amazing bangers, then it drifts into mediocre dream pop that kind of wrecks the vibe. I actually like dream pop but I can’t imagine an occasion that would suit both the front and back end of this album.

eh, this was okay. better than a fever to tell, but not stellar. the album started strong but petered out pretty quickly after that with a bunch of samey pop-rock tracks. they sounded decent but nothing really jumped out at me. favorites: zero, heads will roll, soft shock

I tend to agree with Lance, after a very strong opening it drops off a bit. But following a lot of interruptions I didn’t end up listening to this several times, and I enjoyed it. A lot more than when it first came out anyway.

Two YYYs albums on this list, seems a bit much? Anyway, having already reviewed their first album which was all style and no substance, this (their third) album was a bit of a reverse. The first two songs are excellent, but then it rather falls away after that for me. I’m not so keen on the slower more electronic based songs, albeit the song writing is better. I missed the scuzzier garage sound of the first album, but with this song writing. Something like ‘Gold Lion’ which is on the second album hits the mark for me. Wonder if that album’s on here and I might finally find my YYYs sweet spot! If not, then I think I just have to conclude they’re a good band with some high quality moments, but not a great band.

Always loved her voice Sassy, powerful, sneering Electro-guitars Singles carry this album, but the rest is okay. I remember when this was popular.

These guys hold up. Every band from the mid-2000s did a transition from garage rock to electro pop, when the tides turned in that direction. To me, most of em were worse off for it. I’m not sure about Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I didn’t listen to them enough. But this is their electro pop of them, and it’s good. Consider this a 3.5 rounded down, to leave more of a ceiling if it turns out I like the garage rock version more.

Couldn't capture my attention.

There were few incredible tracks and a few tracks that never really found their way with me. "Heads Will Roll" is an incredible flash in the pan piece of dance punk. Electric! Some of it feels to safe and radio ready and some of it feels like unfinished indie meandering. But here and there some of the tracks have a really powerful resonance thanks to Karen O's vocals and the bands intelligent and (sometimes)energerzied songwriting.

I really like Karen O’s voice. This was fun to listen to. I’ve only heard their singles before.

This was decent enough, and while it lacked the intensity and kick in the crotch that "Fever To Tell" brought, it is arguably a more complete and coherent album. But that doesn't make it a more compelling listen, and consequently drops a star IMO from the other. I guess maturity and experience doesn't always translate to more exciting music. While I get why the debut was a must listen, this one is competent but unremarkable.

I really enjoyed the first 2 tracks. It set me up with lots of optimism for the rest of the album. The peak was runaway. What a great song The album is all over the place from a genre perspective. The first 2 songs are bangers. The rest is pretty good but I don't think I've ever listened to the whole album before. I think the potential of the YYYs is greater than their actual output. If they could just have more songs like Heads Will Roll and Maps. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh but they have always seemed like a bit of underachievers to me.

This is decent, not lifechanging, but good fun, decent energy, and very listenable. Heads Will Roll an obvious standout, not much else that will stay with me though. Could probably do with being a bit faster, or something to inject just a bit more oomph. 3/5.

Not bad. Couple notable hits.

Never a bad day in my book when I spend part of it listening to some dance-punk. I’ve had a wonderful day, actually. And this was definitely a unique way to start it. I was not at all familiar with this group, and the cover of an egg being crushed doesn’t exactly give me a lot to work with. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination either though. I had a feeling this would be wild out the gate. And I think that’s a pretty good synopsis. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard dance-punk infused so heavily with electronic elements. It’s even got some rave and house vibes in there. I mean, it is really just a synthpop punk album, but I like it. It’s a beautiful thing when artists are willing to be so unabashedly uncompromising and unique. This maybe hasn’t aged the best. It feels very 2000s, and is definitely a little dated. I also lied. I have heard this band before. I just didn’t know it at the time. I think millions of people have heard this band before without even knowing it. If you have ever heard the “Dance till' you’re dead” meme, you have heard Heads Will Roll. It instantly hit me when I heard it. I love moments like that. Where a song I’ve heard countless times in other contexts finally comes full circle. It’s a pretty great song on its own too. This album all together isn’t half bad. This is a solid collection of well paced and creatively constructed pieces of music. And it’s very consistent in its own sound. It doesn’t stray too far, and doesn’t try anything too crazy. The lead singer’s voice is still a bit iffy for me. It’s not bad, but nothing mind blowing. I think it exemplifies the beauty of this genre though. It’s sort of rough around the edges, and so are the people who make the music. Rating: 6/10

I enjoy this album… I listened to an audiobook couple years ago and heads will roll was their lead in and out music And I really liked it so I went into the album thinking huh? This might be interesting and it was !!! Good vibes throughout considered giving it a four but not quite there, But I did go deeper into their catalog this weekend.

Damn. I slept on this one aside from lots of dancing to Heads Will Roll at parties. I'm old so Fever to Tell (2003) was really my Yeah Yeah Yeahs album growing up.

Surprisingly enjoyed a lot of this album, love a bit of noise. Found that the quality peaked and dipped. However, some songs caught my attention. Zero Soft Shock Shame and Fortune Little Shadow

2000s indie, standard enough. Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock and Skeltons were my song highlights (latter especially). Decent 3.28 star I'd say. Like the electronic influences.

Another solid pop album, a little slower than I wanted it to be. It's nice to get some representation for the glitter and vodka late 2000s early 10s pop.

Cool, eclectic, artsy New York rock ‘n’ roll. It’s taken me a long time to warm to these guys, and I’m not quite there yet, because they seem a little too cool for school, and lacking in passion and intensity. It’s like the anger is a bit of a put-on. However, this is my favorite I’ve heard of theirs yet, and even if the tunes don’t really stand out to me, it’s quite enjoyable.

I enjoyed it! I knew Heads Will Roll and I like that track quite a bit. Listened straight through with no desire to skip but also didn't pick up on any stand-out tracks that I had to put on repeat immediately.

Great album for jumping around in a frenzy, partying and raising hell with your friends, working out, or even cleaning the house. Not a great album for dinner music, working at your desk, or being stuck in traffic.

I’m so sorry please forgive me but I saw “Heads Will Roll” and immediately thought of Glee… This is a good listen, though. “Skeletons” feels like something you’d listen to while standing on top of a truck on the freeway… gives me “All My Friends” vibes.

I'm very disappointed with this album. Heads Will Roll is one of the greatest songs of late 2000s, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have many more great hits, but this was my first attempt at the full album. And unfortunately, it was a swing and miss. Boring and uninteresting songs, it didn't catch my attention even for a little bit. Usually it would be 2/5,but I just can't give such a note to an album with Heads Will Roll. It's unethical. So a still subpar 3 it is.

Little Shadow by far the best track on it.

I'm more of a Show Your Bones / Fever To Tell boy, not sure I ever listened to this full album in one sitting. The electronics make them feel like less of a band and more of a production. It feels like 50% YYY and 50% TV on the Radio, but hey, that's a pretty cool baby. Overall I dig. 3.5

Energetic, soppy, mopey, and all of it being centered around synths is all I have to say about this album. I tried so hard to like this album. Listening to this repeatedly, I noticed that the singer would either elevate the songs or make them sound worse. I loved the energy coming from Heads Will Roll, but after that, the album began feeling subpar. The intro track immediately reminded me of Fox On The Run. It resulted in me catching a phony vibe while listening to the rest of it. Respectfully, anyone who gives this a five is smoking crack. Anyway, all in all, the album ended nicely. If the vocals didn't sound whiny and cheesy at times and had a bit more polish, and if the lyrics were better. I would have given this a four. That said, overall, the album left a lot to be desired. Best - Heads Will Roll, Hysteric, Dragon Queen, and Little Shadow Worse - Zero, Shame and Fortune, and Runaway BARELY 3.00/5

dont know what the rest of their music sounds like but It's Blitz! is the sound of a band that would've existed in the scott pilgrim universe. a 2000's garage rock/ppr band that is heavily nostalgic for 80s dance/synthpop. sounds cool to me.

Listened Before? N A really good album. As far as late 2000s stuff goes, this is a real gem. It's still got that "hipster" vibe to it, but it's pretty heavily influenced by new wave and punk. I like that about it. Some of the songs are way too long for the simplicity of the lyrics, but overall a good one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Zero

OK. Repetitive.

"It's Blitz!" comes across as formulaic. Lacks the aggression, emotion, and sincerity of their earlier stuff. The disco/dance grooves are just weak. Karen O's voice is not Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, or even Debbie Harry - and it is Blondie (or possibly No Doubt) who they seem to be reaching for, rather than capitalize on their OWN unique flavor. It just feels forced, like a great basketball player who suddenly gets to the Finals and chokes away the win because they get overwhelmed by the moment. Which isn't to say it's all bad. Dissapointing.

Great production on this record, and a more 'mainstream' sound that Fever To Tell. Favourite tracks: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock,

Energetic and dance pop driven. Awesome lyrics and song writing motiffs are all in high caliber on this album. "It's Blitz!" definitely broke from earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs more punk influence to delve into some of its more unique quasi indie dance pop style that would span the 2010s. Honestly this album is wonderful, its easy listening all whilst being able to hype me up!

I like them. First time exploring this album and enjoyed. They don’t send me over the top

I felt a surprising depth beneath the surface of this project, something grim and lonely. That said, if it had leaned full bore into that aesthetic I feel like it would have been stronger overall. Mixed very loud, it is certainly bombastic, and KO's vocals don't falter really at all. I have no complaints, but nothing really sticks with me. Solid indie that I missed during my childhood.

Heads will roll is an undeniable 2000s electro-indie banger. Interesting how the album slows down quite a bit after the first two songs, they're not bad though. I think skeletons is pretty good. wish i could give it a 3.5

What a song to start with!!! Lived up to expectations 100 percent such a fun one. Was a joy to rediscover Zero and I had never heard the song Skeletons before but i thought it was lovely. Made me think someone was knocking on my door though. Dull Life was fab too. A lot of punchy ones which was a nice surprise

I wanted to like this more than I did. I think they’re more suited for pop but they wanna keep their rock energy.

This may be an issue I have with much of contemporary and often synth infused Indie Rock, examplified by this album: I don't understand what it wants from me, what it wants to do with me. It doesn't touch me, it doesn't move me, neither emotionally nor my body despite its frequent dance tunes. Why 𝘪𝘴 it? It doesn't tell me anything, explicitly or otherwise. There are no sonic discoveries to be made. The music may sound like a ruckus, but what's underneath is rather tame and boring. Coincidentally, there's a version of this album with a few accoustic takes of the songs, which are allowed to be ~tame and those are much more engaging to me. But that's not part of the assignment, is it?, so: I don't particularly hate this but - despite or because of my aversion to purpose-made music: - what is it 𝘧𝘰𝘳? The only thing that comes to mind is someone's house party where let's call her Christine balances of bag of crisps on her head, she's just crazy like that, haha.

Some generally solid indy rock.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a solid little band. They do a lot with their small group of 3, but due to a lack of hands it always makes one wanting something more. One more instrument, one more texture, one more layer, one more sound. It's just *missing* a little something interesting.

This album definitely overpowered all other YYY's efforts so definitively, I don't think the world at large thinks of them as anything other than dancerock band. Album itself is a little inconsistent for me, with its highest peaks being indeed superb, while its lowest dragging and dripping.

Pretty good

Released at the tail end of the last decade when Rock music seemed exciting, this is a capable blend of Synth-Rock meets Punk ethos. Some great vocals and guitar work, all with an energetic drive.

Before this album, I only knew a little bit of Yeah Yeah Yeahs but I’m going to have to listen to more now because it’s definitely growing on me

Great hits, an album that sounds different enough from the others in the genre that it catches my attention, the acoustic tracks sound great, the vocalist has a great voice. The only stuff I wasn't so happy with is the second half of the album kind of just blended into one sound and didn't have any stand outs. Definitely an album I enjoyed, but truth be told I'll probably listen to the first half then turn it off for something else on re listens

I had written them off as just another hipster band back in the day, but there’s actually something too them, a lightness and joi de vivre that’s infectious.

Some big songs and tight sounds. Enjoyable but not epic.

Pretty good

I liked this a lot. It is a shame it came out late 2000’s rather than in the 90’s. Had it come out 10 years earlier, I think it would have been a lot more influential. ‘Heads Will Roll’ being the most popular song is a snub, even though that song is great as well.

Well, to start, I'm already quite familiar with their first two records, and if Fever To Tell isn't on the list but this is, I'll be very upset and confused. I remember not taking to this album when it came out, but I'm going to give it a fair shot. First couple of minutes are reminiscent of Blondie. Nothing wrong with that, but not the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I fell in love with in the early 00s. After listening to the whole thing, it was enjoyable, but not a standout album to me.

Love a good indietronic throwback. As with most records in the genre, this is very good at being whistful. Slows down a little too much for me towards the end of the album. Heads Will Roll is a classic, Atrack is a genius for what he did in the remix too. Probably won’t go back to this album as much as Fever To Tell from a few months ago

This is still pretty good and has some catchy stuff, but I miss their more ragged stuff, like off that first EP. Still, there's nothing anonymous about this.

I must say, while some of this album wasn’t for me, I actually enjoyed a few songs off of it! The sound was unique, and I found several of the songs to be very catchy. The guitar riffs were captivating and I loved the electronic sound. While it may not be my ultimate go-to choice when selecting an album, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it upon first listen.

Fun little indie rock record that starts off sounding like a bit like LCD Soundsystem and ending off sounding like Beach House. The middle track-run is somewhat weak. Also I never realized that this was the record that gave us a song that got turned into a meme track through a remix.

Better than I anticipated. The vocals are good. 3.5

Fun album. It’s just a tad too pop driven and repetitive for my taste. I feel like it’s knocking on the door of a 4-5 album just missing some elements.

Solid dance rock record. I would have thought their debut would make the list over this, but actually I think It’s Blitz! is more well rounded with its dance hits and softer ballads. Nothing too special about this one though.

Sorpresivamente me gusto. CD corto pero con el numero perfecto para no cansarte de lo mismo. Demasiado repetitivo muchas canciones con los mismos ritmos e inflecciones de voz. Still bueno y con par de canciones sobresalientes para mi es un yeah yeah meh

This is the first full album I've ever listened to by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Prior to this, I wouldn't have been able to name of their songs, though now after listening I absolutely recognize "Heads Will Roll" (favorite track on here by a wide margin). It's an interesting listen - starts off in this dance-punk-disco space but transitions into something more somber and reserved. Kinda wish we got more of the former than the latter but it's a cool listen regardless.

Eh, it's ok. I was excited for this based a couple of previous songs I'd heard but it didn't really do it for me.

Played twice, each while working on a project. It filled a useful role of keeping me well focused on my task for the duration of the album... maybe there are some binaurals happening? But it didn't ever distract me from my task with awesomeness.

Such a unique blend of disco like guitar work, 80’s heavy synthesizers and modern indie rock vocals. The first half of the album feels lacking I some ways but Dull Life seems to mark a change in the album as the second half of the album comes back tremendously! Favorite songs: Shane and Fortune, Runaway and Dull Life
