Reviews (page 10 of 13)
Calming, good background noise. Probably wouldn’t be a daily listen but good to put in a focus type of playlist and shuffle. Favorite on the album - soft shock
Cool electric sound, enjoyed the singers voice. Some slower songs as well that translate to the acoustic tracks at the end. Not my favorite but worth a listen.
Heads will roll hat Project-X Vibes gegeben, der Rest hat leider nicht mitgezogen.
Some amazing bangers, then it drifts into mediocre dream pop that kind of wrecks the vibe. I actually like dream pop but I can’t imagine an occasion that would suit both the front and back end of this album.
Decent relaxing music.
eh, this was okay. better than a fever to tell, but not stellar. the album started strong but petered out pretty quickly after that with a bunch of samey pop-rock tracks. they sounded decent but nothing really jumped out at me. favorites: zero, heads will roll, soft shock
Solid
Pretty good!
nice stuff. good background music.
***An ok album
This album is fun. I enjoy the sound and some of the tracks that are more unique, though I do find it a bit long for what it is.
3/4
Later tracks really inventive and well done
I really like this one!
I enjoyed most of this, I also like the acoustic versions at the end. 3.5/5
I feel like if you weee a movie or tv show in the 2010s, you were quite drawn to Heads Will Roll. Nice listen. 3.25
Yeah no yeah. Some sinkers some floaters. Like meatloaf said, two outta three ain't bad
Na. Disco pap
I tend to agree with Lance, after a very strong opening it drops off a bit. But following a lot of interruptions I didn’t end up listening to this several times, and I enjoyed it. A lot more than when it first came out anyway.
Two YYYs albums on this list, seems a bit much? Anyway, having already reviewed their first album which was all style and no substance, this (their third) album was a bit of a reverse. The first two songs are excellent, but then it rather falls away after that for me. I’m not so keen on the slower more electronic based songs, albeit the song writing is better. I missed the scuzzier garage sound of the first album, but with this song writing. Something like ‘Gold Lion’ which is on the second album hits the mark for me. Wonder if that album’s on here and I might finally find my YYYs sweet spot! If not, then I think I just have to conclude they’re a good band with some high quality moments, but not a great band.
Always loved her voice Sassy, powerful, sneering Electro-guitars Singles carry this album, but the rest is okay. I remember when this was popular.
These guys hold up. Every band from the mid-2000s did a transition from garage rock to electro pop, when the tides turned in that direction. To me, most of em were worse off for it. I’m not sure about Yeah Yeah Yeahs, I didn’t listen to them enough. But this is their electro pop of them, and it’s good. Consider this a 3.5 rounded down, to leave more of a ceiling if it turns out I like the garage rock version more.
This grew on me quite a bit
Couldn't capture my attention.
There were few incredible tracks and a few tracks that never really found their way with me. "Heads Will Roll" is an incredible flash in the pan piece of dance punk. Electric! Some of it feels to safe and radio ready and some of it feels like unfinished indie meandering. But here and there some of the tracks have a really powerful resonance thanks to Karen O's vocals and the bands intelligent and (sometimes)energerzied songwriting.
Вот чисто саундтрек 10-х, ни хорошо, ни плохо. Просто как есть) ебал - дремал
not for me, but i could see why other people like it. i just found it a little... boring? it never really grabbed me
I really like Karen O’s voice. This was fun to listen to. I’ve only heard their singles before.
This was decent enough, and while it lacked the intensity and kick in the crotch that "Fever To Tell" brought, it is arguably a more complete and coherent album. But that doesn't make it a more compelling listen, and consequently drops a star IMO from the other. I guess maturity and experience doesn't always translate to more exciting music. While I get why the debut was a must listen, this one is competent but unremarkable.
Correct
I really enjoyed the first 2 tracks. It set me up with lots of optimism for the rest of the album. The peak was runaway. What a great song The album is all over the place from a genre perspective. Indie, pop, dance and electronic music all in one album. I love it Favourite song: zero and runaway Least favourite song: all good songs. I also enjoyed the acoustic versions on the special edition of the album. Artwork: great album cover
Fun and rockin' album! I like Karen O's voice, her lilting into belting out the emotions is infectious.
fun album, soft shock and heads will roll were great, nice energy to each track and the ending is very nice, a nice reprise for everything that happened in the album, great way to end it
not super impactful to me. i actually didnt expect this sound, but i think its not completely what im looking for. felt quite dated in my opinion
Skeletons is brilliant, the rest is pretty good as well. 3.5 stars.
Heads will roll is a banger, overall really good indie stuff but kinda standard for the time, doesn't stand out in my mind like arcade fire or something. Nice synths.
Fresh, but lacks some flavor. Like a bland watermelon.
Alright
Pop-y synth tracks, I think I liked the other album better because it had more guitars and better drumming Standout: Hysteric
I really disliked their first album. This one was a little better. 3/5
The first 2 songs are bangers. The rest is pretty good but I don't think I've ever listened to the whole album before. I think the potential of the YYYs is greater than their actual output. If they could just have more songs like Heads Will Roll and Maps. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh but they have always seemed like a bit of underachievers to me.
This is decent, not lifechanging, but good fun, decent energy, and very listenable. Heads Will Roll an obvious standout, not much else that will stay with me though. Could probably do with being a bit faster, or something to inject just a bit more oomph. 3/5.
#297. I didn't expect that I would like this at all, but it turns out I thought it was pretty good. Better than their other album I listened to anyway. 3/5: egg
7/10 gud
Not bad. Couple notable hits.
Never a bad day in my book when I spend part of it listening to some dance-punk. I’ve had a wonderful day, actually. And this was definitely a unique way to start it. I was not at all familiar with this group, and the cover of an egg being crushed doesn’t exactly give me a lot to work with. It doesn’t leave much to the imagination either though. I had a feeling this would be wild out the gate. And I think that’s a pretty good synopsis. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard dance-punk infused so heavily with electronic elements. It’s even got some rave and house vibes in there. I mean, it is really just a synthpop punk album, but I like it. It’s a beautiful thing when artists are willing to be so unabashedly uncompromising and unique. This maybe hasn’t aged the best. It feels very 2000s, and is definitely a little dated. I also lied. I have heard this band before. I just didn’t know it at the time. I think millions of people have heard this band before without even knowing it. If you have ever heard the “Dance till' you’re dead” meme, you have heard Heads Will Roll. It instantly hit me when I heard it. I love moments like that. Where a song I’ve heard countless times in other contexts finally comes full circle. It’s a pretty great song on its own too. This album all together isn’t half bad. This is a solid collection of well paced and creatively constructed pieces of music. And it’s very consistent in its own sound. It doesn’t stray too far, and doesn’t try anything too crazy. The lead singer’s voice is still a bit iffy for me. It’s not bad, but nothing mind blowing. I think it exemplifies the beauty of this genre though. It’s sort of rough around the edges, and so are the people who make the music. Rating: 6/10
wasn't totally in the mood for this one but it's good
Gut hörbar, alternative Pop/Rock. 3/5
Independent rock produced by TV on the Radio.
J'adore la cover, c'était pas mal

Day196 - wasn’t familiar with this group but i thought it was a pretty easy album to listen to
Some standouts, overall not bad. It was easy to listen to and not very long.
Great alt rock tunes from Karen O and her band, more synth that previous albums but just as good and Heads Will Roll is catchy as fuck.
Love the production - head will roll is a classic
definitely better than fever to tell or whatever that other album is. More dynamic, more interesting, more electronic. Good indie rock record.
I enjoy this album… I listened to an audiobook couple years ago and heads will roll was their lead in and out music And I really liked it so I went into the album thinking huh? This might be interesting and it was !!! Good vibes throughout considered giving it a four but not quite there, But I did go deeper into their catalog this weekend.
Ok, didn't enjoy it as much as Fever To Tell.
I listened to this twice. It grew on me.
A fun album, but I had hoped it would keep the same energy throughout that out started with.
Damn. I slept on this one aside from lots of dancing to Heads Will Roll at parties. I'm old so Fever to Tell (2003) was really my Yeah Yeah Yeahs album growing up.
Surprisingly enjoyed a lot of this album, love a bit of noise. Found that the quality peaked and dipped. However, some songs caught my attention. Zero Soft Shock Shame and Fortune Little Shadow
2000s indie, standard enough. Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock and Skeltons were my song highlights (latter especially). Decent 3.28 star I'd say. Like the electronic influences.
Another solid pop album, a little slower than I wanted it to be. It's nice to get some representation for the glitter and vodka late 2000s early 10s pop.
Cool, eclectic, artsy New York rock ‘n’ roll. It’s taken me a long time to warm to these guys, and I’m not quite there yet, because they seem a little too cool for school, and lacking in passion and intensity. It’s like the anger is a bit of a put-on. However, this is my favorite I’ve heard of theirs yet, and even if the tunes don’t really stand out to me, it’s quite enjoyable.
I enjoyed it! I knew Heads Will Roll and I like that track quite a bit. Listened straight through with no desire to skip but also didn't pick up on any stand-out tracks that I had to put on repeat immediately.
Enjoyable, 3*
Good.
There's certainly nothing wrong with this, but I don't really feel like I'll want to listen to much of it again. Fave Tracks: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Faces 3.5/5
Great album for jumping around in a frenzy, partying and raising hell with your friends, working out, or even cleaning the house. Not a great album for dinner music, working at your desk, or being stuck in traffic.
I didn’t make it through the whole album yet so maybe my vote would change, for better or worse.
Random plaat
leuk album, wist niet dat off with their heads gewoon een leuke normale versie had
I’m so sorry please forgive me but I saw “Heads Will Roll” and immediately thought of Glee… This is a good listen, though. “Skeletons” feels like something you’d listen to while standing on top of a truck on the freeway… gives me “All My Friends” vibes.
I'm very disappointed with this album. Heads Will Roll is one of the greatest songs of late 2000s, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have many more great hits, but this was my first attempt at the full album. And unfortunately, it was a swing and miss. Boring and uninteresting songs, it didn't catch my attention even for a little bit. Usually it would be 2/5,but I just can't give such a note to an album with Heads Will Roll. It's unethical. So a still subpar 3 it is.
Little Shadow by far the best track on it.
Liked this one more than I thought I would.
Early on I thought I was going to enjoy this album a lot more, but I couldn't fully get into it.
Liked zero a lot. Liked the next songs a little. I enjoyed the acoustic versions of the songs much more than the electronic versions.
This was fine. I heard of them and expected to like them more. I guess I didn't not like them but did not live up to my expectations. Giving the 3, but only barely.
I'm more of a Show Your Bones / Fever To Tell boy, not sure I ever listened to this full album in one sitting. The electronics make them feel like less of a band and more of a production. It feels like 50% YYY and 50% TV on the Radio, but hey, that's a pretty cool baby. Overall I dig. 3.5
Some fun stuff and good vibes, but kind of feels like getting a half assed massage. I just want it to go a little deeper, you know?
Energetic, soppy, mopey, and all of it being centered around synths is all I have to say about this album. I tried so hard to like this album. Listening to this repeatedly, I noticed that the singer would either elevate the songs or make them sound worse. I loved the energy coming from Heads Will Roll, but after that, the album began feeling subpar. The intro track immediately reminded me of Fox On The Run. It resulted in me catching a phony vibe while listening to the rest of it. Respectfully, anyone who gives this a five is smoking crack. Anyway, all in all, the album ended nicely. If the vocals didn't sound whiny and cheesy at times and had a bit more polish, and if the lyrics were better. I would have given this a four. That said, overall, the album left a lot to be desired. Best - Heads Will Roll, Hysteric, Dragon Queen, and Little Shadow Worse - Zero, Shame and Fortune, and Runaway BARELY 3.00/5
Highlights: -Soft Shock -Runaway -Dragon Queen
dont know what the rest of their music sounds like but It's Blitz! is the sound of a band that would've existed in the scott pilgrim universe. a 2000's garage rock/ppr band that is heavily nostalgic for 80s dance/synthpop. sounds cool to me.
Classic oughts indie rock dance sound.
It's ok.
I was excited to see this album pop up, as I knew Heads Will Roll and Zero well and really liked those songs. Unfortunately many of the other songs on this album pale in comparison. Good album overall, but I was expecting much better. 3/5
Schöner Indie-Rock mit elektronischen Punk-Rock-Elementen.
Solid album, enjoyed some of the fun energy and development of the late 00's
3.5⭐️
Not a bad album, it had moments I enjoyed! Just a combination of 1. Not quite being my preferred sound 2. Being recent enough that I was very familiar with that sound 3. No standout songs for me.
Was ok. 3.5
I find it so interesting that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs make this list more than once. Like, I think they have a nice sound, but multiple albums seems like a stretch to me. Overall, I liked Heads Will Roll, and the rest of the album was pleasant.
Dance till your ded Dancey Kinda catchy Skeletons had cool atmosphere Singing on dull life bad sorry weird country pop rock sound Runaway goes hard Mid the rest of the way
Started out strong but faded a bit after that.
Yeah!
Very interesting. A faixa de abertura é muito boa! É daquelas q vc sente q um álbum está sendo anunciado... A viagem pelas faixas vai mostrando tonalidades diferentes. Me parece conciso!! Gostei
Listened Before? N A really good album. As far as late 2000s stuff goes, this is a real gem. It's still got that "hipster" vibe to it, but it's pretty heavily influenced by new wave and punk. I like that about it. Some of the songs are way too long for the simplicity of the lyrics, but overall a good one. Added to Library? N Songs added to playlist: Zero
Heads will roll is a classic but I listened to this album a few times through and can't remember a single other song.
OK. Repetitive.
"It's Blitz!" comes across as formulaic. Lacks the aggression, emotion, and sincerity of their earlier stuff. The disco/dance grooves are just weak. Karen O's voice is not Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, or even Debbie Harry - and it is Blondie (or possibly No Doubt) who they seem to be reaching for, rather than capitalize on their OWN unique flavor. It just feels forced, like a great basketball player who suddenly gets to the Finals and chokes away the win because they get overwhelmed by the moment. Which isn't to say it's all bad. Dissapointing.
Great production on this record, and a more 'mainstream' sound that Fever To Tell. Favourite tracks: Zero, Heads Will Roll, Soft Shock,
Energetic and dance pop driven. Awesome lyrics and song writing motiffs are all in high caliber on this album. "It's Blitz!" definitely broke from earlier Yeah Yeah Yeahs more punk influence to delve into some of its more unique quasi indie dance pop style that would span the 2010s. Honestly this album is wonderful, its easy listening all whilst being able to hype me up!
Never heard of them before! A few good songs
This was fun! Will listen again.
I only knew heads will roll from them but was impressed! Luv late 2000s indie me Favs: zero, heads will roll ofc 10/10
Very good album. Doesn't stand out from the pack amongst other very good 2000's indie rock though.
it's friday morning but longing for a synthy sunday - dance till you're dead! But like a mindless maybe cleaning sunday, less gripping than i was hoping
I like them. First time exploring this album and enjoyed. They don’t send me over the top
I felt a surprising depth beneath the surface of this project, something grim and lonely. That said, if it had leaned full bore into that aesthetic I feel like it would have been stronger overall. Mixed very loud, it is certainly bombastic, and KO's vocals don't falter really at all. I have no complaints, but nothing really sticks with me. Solid indie that I missed during my childhood.
Heads will roll is an undeniable 2000s electro-indie banger. Interesting how the album slows down quite a bit after the first two songs, they're not bad though. I think skeletons is pretty good. wish i could give it a 3.5
Liked songs: Soft Shock, Hysteric, Little Shadow, Faces
Couldn't decide whether it wanted to be poppy or ballads. Not the worst but not my thing.
Some songs had me vibing but some songs were less good, however I wouldn't say any of them were bad.
Not really convincing.
Starts off fabulously, but loses a bit of steam near the end. Emblematic of its time.
Not bad. 3/5
Like the lead singer's voice. Also like the chord progressions across the album
Great start, less fussed by the rest
What a song to start with!!! Lived up to expectations 100 percent such a fun one. Was a joy to rediscover Zero and I had never heard the song Skeletons before but i thought it was lovely. Made me think someone was knocking on my door though. Dull Life was fab too. A lot of punchy ones which was a nice surprise
I wanted to like this more than I did. I think they’re more suited for pop but they wanna keep their rock energy.
This may be an issue I have with much of contemporary and often synth infused Indie Rock, examplified by this album: I don't understand what it wants from me, what it wants to do with me. It doesn't touch me, it doesn't move me, neither emotionally nor my body despite its frequent dance tunes. Why 𝘪𝘴 it? It doesn't tell me anything, explicitly or otherwise. There are no sonic discoveries to be made. The music may sound like a ruckus, but what's underneath is rather tame and boring. Coincidentally, there's a version of this album with a few accoustic takes of the songs, which are allowed to be ~tame and those are much more engaging to me. But that's not part of the assignment, is it?, so: I don't particularly hate this but - despite or because of my aversion to purpose-made music: - what is it 𝘧𝘰𝘳? The only thing that comes to mind is someone's house party where let's call her Christine balances of bag of crisps on her head, she's just crazy like that, haha.
Not bad. Not the best thing I have ever heard but by no means the worst. Eminently listenable to
Some generally solid indy rock.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs is a solid little band. They do a lot with their small group of 3, but due to a lack of hands it always makes one wanting something more. One more instrument, one more texture, one more layer, one more sound. It's just *missing* a little something interesting.
This was okay but it didn't really connect with me.
Zero is excellent.
I liked some songs but others were just meh.
Not my favorite YYYs album, but serviceable and doesn't make me want to shut it off. Good enough for 3.
This album definitely overpowered all other YYY's efforts so definitively, I don't think the world at large thinks of them as anything other than dancerock band. Album itself is a little inconsistent for me, with its highest peaks being indeed superb, while its lowest dragging and dripping.
Pretty good
Released at the tail end of the last decade when Rock music seemed exciting, this is a capable blend of Synth-Rock meets Punk ethos. Some great vocals and guitar work, all with an energetic drive.
Before this album, I only knew a little bit of Yeah Yeah Yeahs but I’m going to have to listen to more now because it’s definitely growing on me
3-4
Meh meh meh
syntes de første numre var rigtig fede og så blev det lidt ensformigt efterhånden. Fed vokal
Kan godt huske da den her udkom, det føles som en big deal dengang at Yeah Yeah Yeahs pludselig spillede synthpop! De to første numre er kæmpe bangers, god plade. [okay gramps, let's get you to bed]
Great hits, an album that sounds different enough from the others in the genre that it catches my attention, the acoustic tracks sound great, the vocalist has a great voice. The only stuff I wasn't so happy with is the second half of the album kind of just blended into one sound and didn't have any stand outs. Definitely an album I enjoyed, but truth be told I'll probably listen to the first half then turn it off for something else on re listens
I had written them off as just another hipster band back in the day, but there’s actually something too them, a lightness and joi de vivre that’s infectious.
Some big songs and tight sounds. Enjoyable but not epic.
Pretty good
I liked this a lot. It is a shame it came out late 2000’s rather than in the 90’s. Had it come out 10 years earlier, I think it would have been a lot more influential. ‘Heads Will Roll’ being the most popular song is a snub, even though that song is great as well.
Good, they have heads will roll as one hit wonder though 2/3***
It’s ok
Off with your head is a straight banger. The rest of the album is ok but doesn't shine as much as the single
Some really great songs and a bunch of so-so.
Yeah!
Well, to start, I'm already quite familiar with their first two records, and if Fever To Tell isn't on the list but this is, I'll be very upset and confused. I remember not taking to this album when it came out, but I'm going to give it a fair shot. First couple of minutes are reminiscent of Blondie. Nothing wrong with that, but not the Yeah Yeah Yeahs I fell in love with in the early 00s. After listening to the whole thing, it was enjoyable, but not a standout album to me.
Stor 3
Love a good indietronic throwback. As with most records in the genre, this is very good at being whistful. Slows down a little too much for me towards the end of the album. Heads Will Roll is a classic, Atrack is a genius for what he did in the remix too. Probably won’t go back to this album as much as Fever To Tell from a few months ago
This is still pretty good and has some catchy stuff, but I miss their more ragged stuff, like off that first EP. Still, there's nothing anonymous about this.
I must say, while some of this album wasn’t for me, I actually enjoyed a few songs off of it! The sound was unique, and I found several of the songs to be very catchy. The guitar riffs were captivating and I loved the electronic sound. While it may not be my ultimate go-to choice when selecting an album, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked it upon first listen.
Ok
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Its a Blitz
TRADH!!!!
wtf is this cover art lmao favourites: 02, 03, 05, 09 least favourites: 08 pretty good 6-7ish/10
Fun little indie rock record that starts off sounding like a bit like LCD Soundsystem and ending off sounding like Beach House. The middle track-run is somewhat weak. Also I never realized that this was the record that gave us a song that got turned into a meme track through a remix.
It's good
Better than I anticipated. The vocals are good. 3.5
Fun album. It’s just a tad too pop driven and repetitive for my taste. I feel like it’s knocking on the door of a 4-5 album just missing some elements.
Solid dance rock record. I would have thought their debut would make the list over this, but actually I think It’s Blitz! is more well rounded with its dance hits and softer ballads. Nothing too special about this one though.
Sorpresivamente me gusto. CD corto pero con el numero perfecto para no cansarte de lo mismo. Demasiado repetitivo muchas canciones con los mismos ritmos e inflecciones de voz. Still bueno y con par de canciones sobresalientes para mi es un yeah yeah meh
Can hear them in The Beaches. Unique sound with the voice and musical composition.
This is the first full album I've ever listened to by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Prior to this, I wouldn't have been able to name of their songs, though now after listening I absolutely recognize "Heads Will Roll" (favorite track on here by a wide margin). It's an interesting listen - starts off in this dance-punk-disco space but transitions into something more somber and reserved. Kinda wish we got more of the former than the latter but it's a cool listen regardless.
Eh, it's ok. I was excited for this based a couple of previous songs I'd heard but it didn't really do it for me.
Very frog coded album, no I will not elaborate
Played twice, each while working on a project. It filled a useful role of keeping me well focused on my task for the duration of the album... maybe there are some binaurals happening? But it didn't ever distract me from my task with awesomeness.
Such a unique blend of disco like guitar work, 80’s heavy synthesizers and modern indie rock vocals. The first half of the album feels lacking I some ways but Dull Life seems to mark a change in the album as the second half of the album comes back tremendously! Favorite songs: Shane and Fortune, Runaway and Dull Life
Liked this pretty much. Thought I’d tire of the vocals but didn’t. Nice variety of styles and tempos. Won’t need to listen to again.
This isn't meant to be a dig or a dis but this sounded like something I could have heard in the 80's. I enjoyed it and would listen again.
Good
Aunque sólo tuviera Heads Will Roll merecería la pena. Muchísima energía. 3/5.
Dug it. Nothing stuck out. Nothing made me wanna fast forward. 3
Fun, reminiscent of rilo kiley
They have two albums on the list. They are quite different. This one is not bad, but the other one speaks to me more. I prefer their rock side to their synth pop side. Favorite song: Heads Will Roll, which reminds me of Blue Monday.
I love heads will roll, some other songs were good but not that solid an album. This is an album I’d listen to maybe 3 songs of, skip through the rest.
I hadn’t heard this one before, it was decent. Of the YYYs I’ve heard I like their second one best, but this had some catchy tunes on it. I liked the synthy overtones as well. Good stuff.
A veces pones un disco y piensas "no sé que tiene, pero es mi rollo". Pues eso es lo que me ha pasado con ese disco. No sé si es bueno o malo, pero es mi rollo.
I’d like to give this 3.5 stars. I enjoyed the album! The vocals were great. I feel like all of these songs would go great in movies. The acoustic songs at the end peaked my interest, but were not my favorites. I could see this being a good album to jam to.
Definitely an improvement compared to the first album we listened to from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. It was solid but didn’t blow me away.
So the YYY decides to give a shot to the dance-punk sound that was all the rage a few years prior. Bands like Death From Above and LCD Soundsystem were already well-established and admittedly much more interesting than what the YYY are doing here. I'm not saying that it's bad, but the songs do tend to blend together at some point. It's like a more commercial, less exciting take on a sound that was already starting to wear off by the end of the 00's.
I wouldn't have added it to this list, but it wasn't a bad listen either.
Enjoyable indie rock vibes with a few catchy hooks, but I can't see why this is so remarkable and why I would want to listen to it again. This was like easy listening and heavily produced garage/post punk? I don't know. Next!
Pretty good, some songs I really like, other songs that are okay but not amazing.
Interesting
This album starts out really, really strongly and tapers off for me. The instrumentals are all interesting, and way, way heavier than you'd expect going in at times. But the overall sound of the album fades to background for me beyond the first 4 or 5 tracks. Favorite track: Soft Shock
Ganz sympathisch, aber leider auch nur 3 Punkte.
After listening to these guys the first time around and being blown away, this album was much different than I anticipated. Slower, a little popish and a little dance type music, but still kept a little edge that I appreciate. Maybe her voice or maybe it was the presentation, but I enjoyed this album more and more with each listen. Even the first song after the album completed was Black Tongue, so bonus. Cool to see the song called Zero. Much different than the Pumpkins, but good tune. Heads Will Roll is definitely a dance song, but they make it work. Other favorites include Skeleton, Dragon Queen and Hysterical. Again, much different than I expected but really enjoy this bands sound. Each listen was better than the previous and while I thought there times of popish, dance music, sometimes I do enjoy a little of the cheesy stuff when presented in the right way. These guys did it the right way and are pretty damn good. Side note, my rating increased with each listen. First time through I thought, meh. By the my last listen, 3.5 from me. 3.5
3 It’s Alright! I knew that Yeah Yeah Yeahs eventually developed more of a pop sound later in their career, and I guess this album denotes that shift. Unfortunately, instead of having a distinct sound to it like their debut had, this makes them sound like just about every other 2000s alt band that tried to cross over from rock to pop. Admittedly, YYYs probably did it better than most because, as far as those attempts go, I found this to be pretty decent and listenable, but at the same time, to say it’s anything special would be a lie. The album admittedly starts a bit promising with Zero and Heads Will Roll, two tracks that nearly had me on board for the group’s new sound, but it slowly devolves into a bunch of generic pop rock fodder from there. It’s the kind of thing where you can tell they still wanted to be considered alternative while also hoping to garner a bit of mainstream attention, which to me feels a lot like having your cake and eating it too. That to say, I’m pretty sure they actually succeeded in that regard with this album, so power to them - I’m willing to eat crow, but it’s still not my thing. Fever to Tell over this any day - I mean, this didn’t have a single lyric anywhere on it that came close to “Boy you just a stupid bitch and girl you just a no good dick”.
Started out as a great uptempo pop punk album. Great female lead, fun backing band. After a few songs, the tone changed a bit and became drab without the pep from the beginning. Mid 3 for quality and a strong start.
Karen O’s vocals are reminiscent of Dale Bozzio from Missing Persons in the 80s, a band I really enjoyed.
What a pleasant surprise. I smiled. A bit of a delightful album, cheeky, fun, joyous, accessible and approachable. Very happy with this. Easy three stars, not quite 4, as it's not yet got under my skin, but it very well may do so. Good recommendation. Pleased with this.
Pretty decent album, I was expecting all house type music but I was wrong Top tracks: Heads Will Roll, Dull Life
Lots of energy and tempo
Again, I wanted to give this a 2, since I have been giving so many amazing albums 3s. But I can't rate this a 2. It starts so fucking good.
4/10
It was just fine
Kinda cool, groovy
Good album
Good, falls off a cliff though
Meh
not as good as I remembered it being, feels verrrry 2009
Mukavaa melodista indietä, mutta ei kovin mieleenpainuvaa. Turhan koneellinen fiilis. Ei tunnu orgaaniselta.
Zero: Decent, like the beat. Lyrics didin't connect to me on this listen. Heads will roll: An absolute banger. I was already aware of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and this is the song that put them on my radar. Soft Shock: eh. it's fine but I wouldn't seek it out. Skeletons: didin't even register Dull Life: It's fine The album did not really resonate with me. I wasn't listening very actively but the lyrics never really captured me.
The layout of the album is kinda strange but it’s pretty good
I liked this cool dancey, synthey stuff at the start and nice acoustic numbers at the back of the extended album. She has a great voice.
Good indie pop. Not likely to revisit entire album but some great individual tracks.
A very constant Karen O YYY sound. Not bad, but not all too unique.
WOW. Good pop. And riffs. Rock. Maybe some dynamic differences, like each song is its own thing in a cohesive whole. Great singing and grooves. Massive riffs. Arena ready.
Heads Will Roll was best track on the album.
Overall: This is the 1st I've actually sat with anything from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and I am glad I finally did. I never thought I had heard any tracks from them other than Maps, when a friend did a drum cover. Then to my surprise when track 2 played and I had the biggest aHa moment. I have heard it somewhere, Guitar Hero. To sum up, I did find myself wanting to skip at least half the tracks, and interestingly it seemed to almost be every other. I could find myself listening to a slimmed down playlist of this album to include only those mentioned below, for the reasons noted. The rest of the album I could do without. Track breakdown: Zero - What a strong intro track, the synths and Karen's voice is amazing to get things going Heads Will Roll - I've always enjoyed the dance vibes on this track, when hearing it in stores and bars, but I never knew it was them. Skeletons - Loving the percussion sound, what sounds like drumsticks clicking together? Shame and Fortune - Getting a bit of industrial vibe and loving this bass Dragon Queen - I dig the funk on this track Acoustic tracks: Soft Shock - I really like this, but I almost skipped the track in its original form. It's quite more enjoyable in the acoustic format. Hysteric - Another that I didn't prefer the original version, but enjoying this stripped down track Little Shadow - Love this outro track with the layers of strings and piano
jo.. - 3/5
Really like the synths and harmony, reminds me of NiN a bit. Rocking vocals. Good tracks but not my favourite as an album. Listened in the car while picking up furniture. Album: 3/5 Listening environment: 2/5
I’m surprised I had never listened to this full album before, but I rather enjoyed it! Would definitely return to a couple tracks on it.
This was my first time really listening to the Yeah Yeah Yeah's outside of hearing Heads Will Roll all over the place in 2009. I enjoyed this album a lot! Very boppy. I think I enjoyed Dragon Queen the most!
What a fun late 00's indie album. Heads Will Roll is the obvious hit but man, this was just a nostalgic listen for the time. Yeah Yeah Yeahs should have definitely had a couple of hits from this album. Some songs didn't quite hit the spot for me though.
solo conocía heads will roll pero les aseguro que hay más joyitas acá. dull life - shame and fortune - runaway = insane run.
not bad, i could see myself listening to this
Three stars for the Bleh Bleh Blehs. Not a note, not a single word or wail from the frontwoman really arrested my attention, but I suspect this is a treasurable record in its own right that requires repeated listens to really get into.
3/5. An enjoyable indie pop album with a wonderful front lead. Chaotic and sweet, with some great songs throughout. There are some ones I could skip so not as exciting all the way through but some catchy and fun ones as well.
3.5 with a bump for me being nostalgic
I forgot I had Zero on my running playlist for forever. I could really take or leave the rest aside from Heads Will Roll as a Halloween song. ETA: my first edited rating! I hope to keep these very rare. A little while after posting this, I felt bad about how harsh I was. I don't really dislike this enough to rate it a 2 - it's a 2.5/3.
A classic album to many, I'm sure. Especially "Heads Will Roll." "Dull Life," will probably get another listen out of me too, but that's about it. They are a good band though, just not my personal taste to revisit often.
So so
I think this is a really good modern alt rock album. It's a product of its time, but also clearly influenced by 80s new wave too. It's a lot of fun, and enjoyable throughout. While some songs do get a bit samey.
It was ok, not too soggy.
Synth-punk, alternative pop, synth-pop, pop rock
Nice melodic horses rides in a sonic pop maelstrom
I always enjoy the unique sound of this band 🥰 some songs are good, some are not
2009. Digital Mondays. Bumming fags outside while Mr Brightside or some other tosh gets everyone indoors foaming at the lips. Heads Will Roll comes on but I'm too drunk and spastic to realise I'm already dancing. Another good night. Top track. Rest of the album just sort of is there as well.
Last good album they had
Nice upbeat pop record
I wasn’t crazy into this album! But I also didn’t hate it. I thought the lead singer’s energy is awesome, really infectious, fantastic, and I just like this kind of sound, reminds me of the indie-goes-mainstream period of late high school for me. I just thought they could do better with some of the songs… some are a little too predictable, maybe boring even? Others you can’t take your mind off of. Listening to the demos at the end of the album was enlightening… I think the songs themselves seemed great, but suffer from being overproduced. Maybe I just have the benefit of hindsight here. Loved the drum sound. 3/5
Nice. Very like Florence + The Machine. A three.
The vocals were interesting.
Decent album, like heads will roll ofc. Not sure I’d come back to many other songs
Heads will roll gave me so huge throwbacks. Good listenable interesting Album. Unless of few Songs id didnt had much more t offer for me personally.
Definitely an improvement from the previous album on this list. Tighter and more memorable with the inclusion of synth being a good move. Some interesting ideas throughout but some songs stretch out a little too long and I'm just not a big fan of the vocal style.
not their best album
I skipped over this whole late-aughts indie thing at the time. It all sounded kinda generic, and ya this kinda was.
Not bad!
Not bad
It's fine, not really for me. None of the songs really stand out but it's decent enough for what it is.
Miellyttävää electronista rockia. Akustiset versiot oli hyvä lisä, vaikka yleensä ne on hiukan turhia. Nyt ne oli hyviä. Pitää varmaan kuunnella uudestaan.
Was fun, knew a few of the songs already.
funny that a band who started as a member of the early 2000’s wave of garage rock revival would have their biggest hit years later with a dance pop song. still a pretty good dance pop song though.
The danceable songs are just that, danceable Some of the quieter tracks like Skeleton are very pretty Overall an enjoyable listen, no complaints. 3.5 stars
Just fine. Not bad, but not really my cup of tea. Lots of repetitive synth which isn’t always my thing. Heads Will Roll was a familiar song for me - one of those songs you know but wouldn’t have been able to name. I did enjoy Dragon Queen at the end of the album, just had a great beat. Otherwise, nothing stuck out to me and I’d say it was just alright.
Another perfectly (just) fine and unremarkable record, but liked a couple of songs.
Lots to like about the yeah yeah yeahs. Wanna dance? go ahead dance. Breaking up with your boyfriend? There’s a song for that. Simple don’t overthink it.
- karen o’s voice is great - musics a little predictable - v well produced but clearly inspired a lot of flaccid indie rock of the 2010s - front loaded, getting a bit of ear fatigue in the second half FAVS: zero, hysteric
Decent, known for a while for Heads Will roll, some surprising softer sung songs, pleasant to listen to in the background. However feel that not many songs caught my attention. 3/5.
nice
Felt like an album that was special to its time. It had some highlights, mostly in the well known track but otherwise a mediocre listen.
Gute Songs, "Heads will Roll" ist sehr bekannt denke ich. Vielleicht würde ich vereinzelt Lieder herauspicken, aber hätte nicht nochmal Lust, das ganze Album durchzuhören. 5.5/10
cool album cover moderately interesting pop. closer to 3 than a 2.
I’d like to give half stars, this would get 3.5 from me. This was energetic, tight, fun.
meh
Not bad I guess, alt 2000s vibes, doesn’t beat other albums I’ve listened to on here
Surprised to see a 2009 album on here, I thought it only went up to 05. Heads will roll is an all time classic
Blind album and artist. I guess this is one of the albums from the modified list up to I wanna say... 2018? I recognize the 2nd track actually, don't know from where though. This album is alright and catchy for the most part. Bit repetitive getting near in the middle. The 2nd track stuck out for sure.
I really want to love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but have never been able to really find any of their albums truly interesting. There's some fun, poppy riffs in there, and Karen O is a badass, but on listening again, it still just doesn't excite me.
Hit a nice vibe. The intro track was alright but pretty much everything after was great. If I could do half stars it would be a 3.5
In 2023 it feels kind of generic because many songs these days sound like this, but it has a few interesting moments.
fine, just fine
Would have enjoyed it more back in the days in my early twenties.
Iconic indie album that doesn’t overstay its welcome and I appreciate that
Ok pop album. Dragon Queen stood out.
Nothing stood out but it was enjoyable
This is pretty good. I was pretty turned off by a lot of the dance oriented indie rock of this era, but this album transcends that for me. It still has plenty of the band’s original quirkiness and interesting hooks.
Vocals of Karen O have grown on me. Solid 3 after two listens, may listen again at a later date to move it to a 4.
Recognized "Heads Will Roll" right away. Thought second half of album was better than first. Favorite tracks for me include "Shame and Fortune," "Hysteric," and "Little Shadow." Rating: 3 out of 5 skeletons.
Got better as it went along, especially the acoustic stuff towards the end
Would listen to in a group setting with others, and also wind down to it by myself. Nice mix of bedroom pop and a grungy alternative, with electronic roots. I, for one, prefer the acoustic versions of the album on the deluxe version. Some songs are honestly ahead of its time
Solid songwriting and catchy tunes, but it didn’t quite grip me. Solid, but not my favorite
I’ve only heard the first and second song before, so I wasn’t expecting great things. But the songs toward the end (slower songs when she wasn’t screaming) we’re decent and I could probably listen to in the future.
My mom used to listen to this band and I hated it. The singers voice sounds like if a leather jacket could speak. Leather Jacket Vocal Fry. The first song is bad. The off with yer head song that is popular is on here. The rest of the album is alright.
A couple good songs
A pleasant vibe throughout. Could be a movie soundtrack.
De tout, du calme, ça bouge, belle !
It was ok. It led to a great spotify autoplay when it was done.
There's nothing really good or bad about this album. It's perfectly pleasant to listen to, but not especially memorable. Fave Songs: Skeletons, Heads Will Roll, Hysteric, Zero
Liked it but it seems like a single song spread across an album.
I hadn't listened to this before, but know the band a little. Enjoyed it, and it's different to their earlier stuff. Quite varied styles and a nice indie/garage core to it
Given the choice of any YYY’s album, why would they pick this one?
a good aughts indie/electro pop album.
I love the Yeahs, but this album is a little boring.
heads will roll is literally my favorite club song. but hearing the original is so underwhelming. I like the change of pace in genre though (this is one of the few electronic records on here i feel like)
Nice easy listen, but nothing special (and missing my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs song).
Didn’t think I was going to like this one after the first track. It really got better as it went along.
Solid first album from them.
Great atmospheric album, electronic components gave it space-y vibe. Cool panning work in stereo
okay
Yea it's pretty good
the meh meh mehs
First two absolute bangers, most of the rest is pretty average. Suffers from the same fate as many indie rock albums from this era, full of filler either side of some serious tunes. 2.5/5 Fav track: Heads will Roll
Some standout tracks for sure, others that felt over-dramatic, most felt inconsequential if well performed. I like Karen Oh over instrumentals like Heads Will Roll, but on others here she felt way too sharp. Two and a half. Fave track: Heads Will Roll
